This was really worth the stop. Beautiful architecture and amazing rich history. They even have events here on most nights and during the time we were there, they were having a watch party for the movie Spy Kids with food and drinks which looked really cool! We didn't stay for that but we did go inside and take a walk around and look at a lot of the different exhibits. You do have to reserve passes in advance (self guided tour), which are complimentary, but staff was kind to us and accepted our late entry (by 30 minutes) so they don't seem too strict in that sense, more or less you just need to have a verified pass. If you are able to visit inside the actual library (we weren't able to) it is really beautiful. You can see a view from up top however.

We were blown away by the Library of Congress during our trip to Washington, D.C.. We visited on a Saturday morning and despite being the weekend, the staff was trying their best to keep the line moving. We were awestruck by the architecture inside with huge columns acting as supports. The facts/ideas that this place is the largest library in the world and that, at the same time, it does justice to the principles involving the pursuit of knowledge—are enough to make one’s head spin. I was constantly trying to read the ceilings and imagine the time when it would’ve been designed. When inside, we were warmly guided by the staff about the logistics of the space, and where the exhibitions, things to see and the main reading room were. The highlights were the exhibitions—The Two Georges showcasing the parallels and conflicts between George Washington and King George III, and Collecting Memories which showed how memory plays a pivotal role in shaping our lives. To access the main reading room, you need to register online(using a QR code which is available inside), and then go to a specific area(the staff can help you guide to it) to be able to get your library card made and then access the main reading room. We were lucky enough to visit the main reading room(no photography is allowed inside the main reading room). We are history and art geeks, so it took us the entire day to peruse the library. The nearest train station is Capitol South Metro Station, and it’s a 5-10 minutes walk to the library from the station. The gift store was pretty well-curated too. You should book the timed entry ticket prior to be able to enter. There might be a line outside on arrival, so there might be a short wait. Overall it was easily the highlight of our trip to Washington, D.C., and we are already looking forward to coming back.

It's very fantastic and beautiful art gallery. Never think there is a nice museum with contempt arts in America. The monument in the middle of the gallery is so beautiful. There are plenty of spots taking pictures. They have a lot of classic arts and American masterpieces artworks. Free to entry no reservation needed

This is an incredible art museum in DC and since it's free, if there's only one exhibit you're interest in you can go check it out just for that! I went right before it temporarily closed to check out the Photography and Black Arts Movement exhibit and it was stunning! I also went to this right after visiting the African American History Museum and there were certainly a lot of connections between the two which was cool to see. Would highly checking out that exhibit while it is still here!

The National Gallery of Art consists of the West Building, East Building and the Sculpture garden. I reviewed the sculpture garden separately. Both the East and West buildings are full of paintings and sculptures. While I am not a huge art fan, there were plenty of beautiful and amazing art for even me. This is a great museum to visit. Just remember, stay away from the paintings. Don’t lean in to get a closer look and do not touch. There were 2 artists painting while we were visiting. Both were painting amazing paintings.

Wow! What an amazing museum!!! We’ve visited it a few times over the years. Our whole family has always enjoyed it at all ages, little kids, teenagers, and adults alike. There’s hands-on activities for younger kids, and informative displays for adults. We watched a film display and the toddlers next to us found it just as engaging as we did. This museum really is truly great for all ages, and we have found it fascinating after each new visit. We spent 3 hours here, and didn’t even see every display. There’s so much to do and to look at. The staff were so friendly and well-informed. We really enjoyed chatting with them. I’m so happy that we were able to visit. My one piece of advice is to book the free timed-entry tickets as far in advance as possible so that you get the chance to enjoy this amazing experience!

Great museum! If you love aviation you will love this place! They have many airplanes from 747s to DC-3s to a wright flyer. They even have an x wing hanging from the roof! Tons of cool information, including about space flight and space craft. Only complaint is that part of the museum was closed for construction, but it's understandable because they have to renovate it at some point. Get tickets online in advance! Would highly recommend this place!

Great museum. I didn't know that I can get the timed pass online, so I had to wait there for 15 minutes but that was not a problem for us. Incredible to see the real engines and rockets used for space exploration. My kids were 3,5 and 1,5.. they enjoyed the kids zone, but in general it is a must-go for older kids for inspiration.. we will definitely go again in future..

I went in late June and quite enjoyed my experience. If you are in the area, definitely visit. Unfortunately part of the museum was closed off and the lines were very long (but go incredibly fast). Gift shop is incredible. Exhibits are great, I liked the Northwest 747 the best. Definitely recommend checking out the Apollo Exhibit. I quite enjoyed my experience.

We love going to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History again and again. There is always so much to see, explore, and learn. One of the highlights for us was the African safari animals exhibit. The animals look so real that it feels like you're actually on a safari! It's exciting and fun for both kids and adults. I had just picked up my friend from Germany from the airport, and we decided to spend the day visiting all the monuments. Standing at the Washington Monument was such an amazing experience the history, the views, and the feeling of being right in the heart of D.C. made it so special. As someone who lives only about three and a half hours away, I can’t believe I waited this long to do it. It really made me appreciate how incredible our nation’s capital is. Awesome experience. Who knew you could go inside and up to the top in an elevator? This iconic DC monunent to George Washington is beautiful. Rich in history and all around awesome. Plus the park rangers here rock!!! Couldn't be nicer AND....Irs FREE! We got same day tickets for 1.5 hours after we booked. But I recommend reserving in advance.

The Washington Monument is definitely one of the most awesome landmarks in Washington, D.C. It’s super tall and stands right in the center of everything, so you can see it from almost anywhere on the National Mall. When you walk up close, you really notice how massive it is and how detailed the stonework looks. It’s even cooler when you think about how it was built such a long time ago to honor George Washington. If you get the chance to go up to the top, the view is incredible, you can see the Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, and even the White House from up there. At night, when it’s all lit up, it looks amazing reflecting in the water. The whole area around it feels peaceful, and it’s a great place to just hang out or take pictures. seeing it in person is definitely an experience you won’t forget.

This monument is located in the middle of the Washington mall park. There are beautiful views from here on both sides. On a clear day it’s a beautiful view of the Lincoln Memorial while on the Northern side you get a view of White House, on the southern side it’s Jefferson Memorial and on the western end it’s a view of the Capitol Building. There is paid street parking available on all sides of the monument, and is almost a 7 minute walk in each direction. A really nice and must visit monument in Washington DC.

Part of the national mall. Such a beautiful area on a nice day and a wonderful free party of the town to visit. Parking is street parking and not easily found, so please be prepared if on a weekend or around rush hour. No cost to visit and you are able to walk to other monuments easily from this one.

It is always nice to see this amazing piece of architecture. The best view is definitely from the lincoln memorial at sunset when you see the full reflection amidst the cotton candy colors in the sky. It is possible to also purchase tickets in advance and go all the way to the top - i did not do it this time around.

Beautiful experience. I added 4 ☆ because they allow too many people into the museum at once. If you want to read you'll have to plan at least 3 hours ans be extremely patient with the crowds. There were many group tours with young adults yelling and running but some of those things are hard to control. Thank you for a beautiful experience and museum.

It's a place you might want to visit to understand how still WAR is invading out kindness, being deserted from your own house and being separated from your own family. How much hardship those traumatized souls had to go through and how sad they are! those who survived but feeling so helpless that we're not being able to control our problems and still ended up getting into the same WAR.

An incredible experience, the exhibits were thoughtfully planned giving a face to all who was effected. There were several school groups there but you could hear a pin drop as everyone was respectfully going through.

I fell on my knees before coming inside, thought there would be a place to rest, but only a few places. There were some places to watch video where there were seats and at the end. Good place for history lovers that can stand for an hour. I'm glad I came, but it isn't a place for people with mobility issues.

It’s definitely one of the best park in USA. All these Smithsonian museums are free. This is the effort that USA government shares knowledge to its people. African American museum is the latest one at the mall. Living memorial hall is a place to remind the human the progress and road to all men are equal. National mall is definitely worth of spending days.

We were in Washington DC during the shutdown, the mall was busy, but not overcrowded. The Memorials are a living tribute to our history and military. As a retired nurse I was touched by the bronze nurse statue. Be prepared with GOOD walking shoes!

If you are well organized and got advance tickets to go up in the obelisk, you have a great view of the surroundings (500 feet up) and can get your bearings easily. Be careful in the summer, it will get very hot along the reflecting pool. Stay in the shade

This memorial is absolutely beautiful and I would've spent hours there had I had the time. Each US state and territory is included and the fountains make the setting very serene. It's definitely worth walking through as you explore the National Mall. You can sit and put your feet in the water but running and playing is not allowed! Please respect national monuments!

Visiting the World War II Memorial was an emotional and inspiring experience. Standing by the fountains surrounded by the pillars and gold stars really makes you pause and think about the sacrifices made for freedom. I went around sunset, and the light made the whole place feel peaceful and powerful at the same time. It’s beautifully maintained and truly honors those who served. A must-see if you’re in D.C.

What a great site for remembrance of those who fought and sacrificed in WW2, and it was very touching to be there. The architecture of the site done so well and I really recommend to take your time to walk through the area. It’s a beautiful memorial.

The World War II Memorial is probably my favorite memorial in DC. The stonework is amazing and the water is beautiful. I enjoyed reading the quotes etched in stone all around the exhibit. This is a great place for reflection and to think about all those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I highly recommend visiting this memorial if you get a chance.

It's interesting to read that this memorial was designed after a "healing wound." I think the architect did a good job at bringing that vision to reality. After taking in the Lincoln Memorial, we headed back east and came upon the site which is just off the north side of the Pool. The arrow-shaped memorial wall of smooth, dark, reflective gabbro rock starts at ground level then slopes ever so gently into the earth until its midpoint, where it then gradually rises back up to ground level, with a ton of names engraved along the way. A memorial directory is posted nearby to aide in finding names. Look for a small podium near the entrances/exits. Simple, striking, and beautiful.

I found this memorial to be really cool on the evening that I went because they were doing an orange light awareness activity with lots of candles. I also really enjoy how you can see your image reflected in this memorial. If you are by the Lincoln memorial feel free to stop by this one as well!

There was a quiet reverence while walking through this area, it was deeply appreciated. I was there to find a name for my friend; her husband passed in Viet Nam. The volunteers were helpful and offered historical documentation about the Wall.

Years ago I watched a movie called In Country about a young girl searching for information about her father, who was killed in the Vietnam War. I recall the movie as being average at best, but in the final scene, they film real people at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC. It was so moving and difficult to watch I had tears flowing and could not stop. I could also hear several other people in the audience with the same reaction and when the show ended, I just stayed seated for the longest time and thankfully, my wife quietly sat there with me. Just to be clear, I’m too young to have fought in Vietnam but for some reason, it’s something that has been a part of my life since I was a kid. And so when I finally got to visit this amazing place after all these years, I took plenty of time to take it all in. This is a beautiful monument and it’s definitely worth seeing but at the same time, it was so jarring to see how amazing the monument to the Korean War and WWII were. We walked to see if the family member of a friend was listed on the wall and it was. What a moving experience. The place is a solemn recognition that freedom is not free. The memorial has a wall with the names of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. There is a water feature and statues of soldiers.

This is a somber memorial to walk around. Dedicated in 1995, it honors the sacrifices of American, Korean, and United Nations forces during the Korean War (1950-1953). A great reminder of the forgotten war. My boys and I enjoyed it.

Very beautiful, eye-opening memorial. The sculptures are so detailed and I enjoyed my visit. It’s really sad seeing all the names of the heroic soldiers that died in battle for our country, but it makes me proud to see how honored our veterans are!

The Korean War Veteran's Memorial is solemn and poignant. The ghostly figures of soldiers almost seem hauntingly alive. All of the countries that participated from the United Nations are represented here, including Canada. A very fitting tribute and highly appreciated. I highly recommend visiting the next time you're in Washington.

I am a little disappointed about the care of this haunting Memorial. The artistry and care that went into designing and building the Memorial that honors thousands of US and South Korea Soldiers who fought and died in this war is being neglected. I would expect more care would go into maintaining this Memorial.

Obviously a must see if you're visiting DC! I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty crowded but people were being very respectful and waiting for others to finish to take their pictures. When you get to the top you can see all the way down the National Mall which is great. Unfortunately the bookstore was closed due to the government shutdown, but still fun to check out!

A great place to honor our former president. You will never understand how big it is until to get to the bottom. The best time to visit is close to sunset when the sky is pretty and you can see the full reflection of the Washington monument with amazing colors in the sky. The addition of the ramp although blocks the view from the front, is a good addition for those with strollers.

The Lincoln Memorial is stunning especially at sunset. I didn’t realize how close all the monuments were to each other until I visited; everything is just a short, scenic walk away. As I made my way from the Thomas Jefferson or Washington Memorial to the Lincoln, I saw one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever experienced. The way the light hit the reflecting pool and the memorial itself was just perfect peaceful, powerful, and unforgettable.

What a wonderful experience it was to have visited this truly historical place and to learn about one of the greatest presidents of our time. Reading and Gettysburg address was like stepping back in time and in my opinion is the best speech every written. Please note that there is a lot of walking if you visit Washington DC so really good walking shoes are a must.

Hiking Trail Review Malvern Hill Battlefield - 3 Miles Trailhead is easy to find and there is a small parking lot at the start. There is also a bathroom located at the beginning. The first part of the trail is mostly through the woods but as you come up on the last quarter of the hike you start the historical parts. This area is laden with signs and artillery. Breathtaking views and rich history to be found all around.

Preserved well I might say. No litter, trash was well kept. Informational wooden kiosk was clean and has a lot of information. Parking is appropriate. Beautiful lawncare and trees.

Part of the Richmond National Battlefield Park, Malvern Hill is one of the best preserved battlefields in the Richmond area. It has a two mile walking trail with two parking lots. There was not a lot of people on the trail and we enjoyed visiting the area. While not listed as part of the other parts of the park there is also a National cemeteries nearby Fort Harrison.

Beautiful landmark. Beautifully kept. The trail(s) are figure 8 shaped. The longer one is quite a good hike.

A lovely visit on the weekend of the winter solstice. A brisk walk with good friends to keep me company. We did both the white & blue trails, about 4 miles overall. Some through fields & some through some pretty dense woods. Saw evidence of owls hunting, as well as deer tracks. Definitely recommend as the trails weren’t too busy. For relic hunters, metal detectors aren’t allowed.

Great place to take in history and a nice hike. This battlefield is the perfect example of how good ground can win battles.

The gardens are beautiful. I was very impressed by the size of the gardens as well as how well everything was labeled. There were also interesting art pieces displayed throughout. While I do not have children, there were lots of play areas and even a little water sections that would be perfect for children. Be prepared to walk a lot as there is a lot gardens to see. My only complaint would be that the butterfly conservatory was completely closed but it was the same price. I feel like that is a bug part of the experience so if it is not opened, they should adjust the admission price.

What a gem! Had the lovely opportunity to visit the gardens and discover they were hosting a concert the next day — so fun! Incredible section for children and families. Pond is a great spot for taking some Time to see what’s swimming around. Quite a bit of construction at the moment, which didn’t interfere with the enjoyment of the gardens.

We had our Elopement Ceremony at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden on 5/5/25, and it was truly amazing! The entire setting was like a dream. The gardens were bursting with vibrant flowers in full bloom, creating the most beautiful and romantic backdrop for our vows. Everywhere we turned, there were gorgeous spots perfect for photos, which made capturing our special day so easy and memorable. The staff at Lewis Ginter were incredibly helpful, kind, and professional from start to finish. They answered all our questions promptly, helped us plan the details of our ceremony, and made sure everything went smoothly on the big day. We felt so well taken care of, and it allowed us to fully relax and enjoy the moment. I absolutely loved having our wedding here and can’t recommend this venue enough to anyone looking for a stunning, peaceful, and unforgettable place to say “I do.” Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden made our elopement everything we dreamed it would be!

August 2025 Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is beautifully maintained, with a nice variety of flowers, plants, and walking paths. It’s a relaxing place to spend an hour or two, and there are plenty of benches and shaded spots to just sit and take in the scenery. The themed gardens and water features add a nice touch, and everything feels thoughtfully designed. KID FRIENDLY! The Children’s Garden is a hit — with a splash area, play spaces, and sand box. It’s a great stop if you’re in the Richmond area and want to enjoy some fresh air and nature.

The botanical garden in Richmond is a must-visit! It’s incredibly spacious—you can easily spend several hours exploring. There’s a beautiful variety of plants, including lots of dragonflies fluttering around and a stunning collection of roses. The grounds are peaceful and well-maintained, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. They also have a large café and a great gift shop with plenty of unique items. If you're visiting Richmond, this is definitely one of the top attractions to check out!

It was a lovely garden, with benches along the way to pause throughout the journey, and there was a treehouse for kids. The paths were quiet and the wind chimes added to a peaceful vibe. For people allergic to bees, the rose section was a bit overwhelming. We were a bit bothered by the noise of the construction taking place in one area of the garden when we visited (April) and I also didn’t like that the maps were only provided for members. However, the gift shop was larger than expected and full of a variety of beautiful items, and the beauty of the space brought joy to my day.

Took my mom here for her birthday as part of a Richmond trip. It rained for the first few minutes of our trip but once the rain stopped, the grounds were so pretty. I particularly enjoyed some of the shaded walking paths with streams and huge bonsai!

This was literally the worst stop on our entire trip in 2025, and we went to 50 different locations during our vacation. First off, parking was horrid! It did state on the website that you can park in the parking deck of the hospital. Once we found the entrance to the parking garage, we then had to walk down two blocks to the museum. Fortunately, we walked around the back to find where you go in to buy a ticket. We were told the first tour was canceled and we had to wait an hour for the next one. At that time, there were two people at the counter (please remember this detail). The staff at the counter informed us that we could walk a few blocks to visit the capital if we wanted, and then return for the tour. We chose to just wait around since my wife is still recovering from her chemo treatments, I am not in the greatest of health, and it was almost 95 degrees outside, and we just drove in from Williamsburg and didn't even check into our hotel yet. We were not sure if we could keep up the pace walking and be back in time for the next tour. We paid for the tour and walked around the grounds a little bit, taking some B-roll video and pictures, and just sat in the courtyard waiting for the tour. At first we were the only ones there. As it got closer to tour time, more and more people showed up. When the tour started, there were literally 21 people on our tour, and the tour guide (one of the people that was hanging at the counter, by the way) said they normally limit the tours to 15-18 people. Needless to say, we were cramped. As the tour went on, the guide was mostly focused on people not touching anything, staying on the carpets, and not leaning on the wally. It was so cramped we could hardly see anything or even hear the guide. It was a truly dreadful experience. We were there once; that was enough. Oh... we did obtain a stamped paper from the museum to use as parking validation. I presented it to the attendant at the parking garage, and he basically yelled at us and said we were supposed to go into the hospital to take care of the parking cost. Nice of the museum to mention that little bit of information, as I am sure that happens to everyone. We had a much better time walking around the old Hollywood Cemetery.

I was concerned they would be sympathetic to the Confederates, but I found the tour pretty straightforward. No Confederate flags or anything. I particularly enjoyed hearing about the slaves who escaped and sold out the Davises. I understand some won't feel comfortable here, but ultimately, they lost. So why not learn some more about why the U.S. is the way it is? (Or gloat, which is also fair.)

The place where Jefferson Davis, the only president of the confederation dwelt during the war of secession. The guide was excellent. And we could have a more intimate understanding of the life of the leader of the confederation.

Great tour. Costs $15, $12 for students. The tour itself is about half an hour to 45 minutes, and the tours leave every 45 minutes. The building itself is pretty small.

Had a really fun time at this small museum. My husband and I wanted to kill some time in Richmond and came upon this & we were blown away. The museum is smack dab in downtown in between the hospitals. We parked at the hospital parking lot and it was a quick 3 minute walk. Andy was a delightful tour guide and she was very well versed on all things President Jefferson Davis. This tour took around an hour and I definitely recommend it.

Superb museum experience. As we entered the shop/entrance, we were immediately greeted by helpful and friendly staff. The museum tour is very interesting and had a lot of Poe artifacts. To save time, we decided to listen to the audio tour later. To get through the three main houses, see the courtyard and shop, was about an hour. Even without listening to the tour, we learned a ton from reading to info plaques. The property is stunning. And the cats were a bonus (they were so cute and friendly). The shop is very well curated with cool Poe gifts. Visiting this museum reignited my love of Edgar’s writings. Looking forward to rereading his stories. If you are a Poe fan, this is a must visit. If you aren’t a fan, you will be. "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.”

If you have any interest in Edgar Allen Poe, this is a must-visit! The museum is comprised of several buildings surrounding a serene interior courtyard which display a fairly astounding number of personal artifacts belonging to Poe, his sister, his wife and other family members. There are also some pop culture artifacts and modern artworks on display. In particular, there is a rather fine daguerreotype of Poe and a letter from Poe to his famous contemporary Washington Irving. Tours are self-guided, so you can take as long as you like in the exhibits or just take a seat in the garden and make friends with the black cats who reside at the museum. There is a well-stocked gift store with everything from plushies and children’s books to whiskey glasses and scholarly tomes on Poe. Admission fee with discounts for students and seniors. There is a very small parking lot at the side and additional parking on the street and in a nearby public lot. During special events it is recommended to purchase tickets in advance. Otherwise there is no need.

Don’t miss this museum if you are a Poe or literature fan! It is filled with artifacts from Poe’s world and more information about him than I knew. It’s easy to see where his macabre styles came from once you hear his story. This old house is not Poe’s in any way but is the oldest house in Richmond and interesting in itself. The gift store is so well curated! I spent forever just looking at the options. There are also some cute rescue cats around that like a scratch. Finally, the staff is great! Nevermore will you wonder if you love Edgar Allen Poe.

I stopped by the Poe Museum in downtown Richmond over the July 4th weekend on a spur-of-the-moment trip, and I’m so glad I did! This little gem exceeded all expectations. The museum is organized beautifully, with a go-at-your-own-pace layout that makes it easy to explore at your leisure. Each room offers fascinating insight into Edgar Allan Poe’s life and work, with plenty of captivating artifacts and storytelling. The gardens were absolutely lovely—a peaceful and picturesque space that felt like stepping back in time. I took some amazing photos that I’ll treasure, and it was the perfect spot to soak in the atmosphere. And the gift shop? Adorable. Packed with unique and quirky novelty items, it had everything from books to themed home decor and plush raven toys (which made perfect souvenirs for my kids—they loved them!). If you're in Richmond and have even a passing interest in literature or history, this place is a must-visit. Thoughtfully curated, welcoming, and just the right amount of spooky—thank you to the Poe Museum staff for such a memorable experience! 🖤

So freaking amazing! Loved learning about Poe. Not necessarily a fan but gained a whole new appreciation! It was so well structured and intimate. The local cats are an added bonus!

We thoroughly enjoyed the museum. Parking was a bit congested, but we found a spot down the street. We anticipated the museum's display of artifacts once owned by Poe. They even had ravens on the light switches, which was a very pleasant touch. We are taking away a star since it seemed like the entire staff was just focused on either restocking the shelves or preparing the gardens for what seemed to be an event. We didn't expect a tour guide or any attention, but we paid to see the museum and felt like we were in their way. We truly understand that work has to be done and merchandise has to be restocked; however, we traveled a long way to see the museum, and a small amount of effort or a personable touch would have left a long-lasting pleasant experience. We even spent a considerable amount of money in the gift shop before we left. Would we go back again... questionable. I LOVE Poe and had a fantastic time at the Poe Museum learning more about Poe’s life and seeing firsthand relics that belonged to Poe and his family, letters hand-signed by Poe, and images of Poe and his contemporaries. It was all so fascinating! The gift shop was fabulous as well with Poe mugs, candles, magnetic poetry, jewelry, t-shirts, and every book you can imagine! At $10 per adult ticket, it was well worth the visit!

We were recently in Richmond and had to add the state capital to our list of places that we wanted to stop and visit. We weren't sure if we could enter or tour, but we tried. We found the security guards to be extremely friendly and helpful. It was a wonderful experience, and we were able to go on a self-tour since we were limited with time. We were told we could join other timed tours, which was great. At many places we visit, we have to wait for the tour, but at the capital, we were free to go ahead at our pace. Loved it!

The knowledgeable guide demonstrated exceptional expertise and answered all inquiries with enthusiasm. The hour-long tour was highly informative and provided valuable insights into the Capitol’s rich history. The visitor center entrance to the Capitol houses a gift shop that offers a selection of snacks for those seeking a quick repast. Throughout the tour, there are designated stops where visitors can pause to immerse themselves in the captivating history of the Capitol. All in all, it's a must visit for any history buffs in the area.

Reception and security were all very welcoming, pleasant, and engaging. I walked in to the tour & information office at a very quiet time but they were willing to provide a 1-on-1 guided experience which was awesome. I had the pleasure of touring with Mr. JC Bussard. He is a wonderful custodian of history and was great to interact with and ask questions throughout. As a plus there is no charge to the public. Score!

Beautiful park! The locals seem to use it as a place to “touch grass” during their work days as there were mostly business dressed people walking around staring at trees (we went on a Monday). It’s very well kept and there’s a ton of shade if you go when it’s hot out(it usually hot out). Not much to do but it’s a nice place to see.

Sasha took us on a 2pm tour on a Saturday and was so informative and kind! I learned about the capitol’s history, the revolutionary war, and Virginia state legislature. It was a really interesting fun free thing to do on an afternoon in Richmond. Perfect rainy day activity.

It was amazing to walk these hollow grounds FREE to the public. The capitals architect was amazing. The statues and the other buildings on the ground were beautiful and the historic artifacts inside statues paintings monuments were amazing. I can’t see the light This is definitely a place to visit when you’re in Richmond, Virginia.

This beautiful cemetery offers ample parking, with additional street parking available nearby. Enter through the cemetery gates, go down the hill, and the parking lot is to the right. The best view of the park can be found near Monroe’s mausoleum. The cherry blossoms here are stunning. The park is quiet, peaceful, and perfect for walking.

Peaceful walk… Hollywood Cemetery is a nice spot to walk. The cemetery is big and hilly, offering great views of the James River, downtown Richmond, and a calm environment for exploring its historic grounds. There are different sections to admire the monuments and gravestones, and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Beautiful cemetery that has many historical figures and interesting items to see. It was peaceful and quiet. You can easily drive through and follow the blue line on the road as a self guided tour. There are parking areas on the drive or just pull off to road side if you see something interesting. The overview of the river Beautiful.

Absolutely breathtaking. Very peaceful to walk through and spend time admiring centuries of craftsmanship, masonry, and ancestry. Sits overlooking the James River rapids with beautiful trees across the property and the city skyline in the periphery. Lucked out and had 3 whitetail deer stroll alongside me plus a tattered Monarch land on the mausoleum of President Monroe. A beautifully preserved venue that is both humbling and unexpectedly inspiring. I’d consider this a must-see in the Richmond area! There is a lot to explore if you want to walk. Quite a few graded hills so wear comfortable clothes and bring water, a light snack.

Beautiful historic cemetery! The rolling terrain and narrow roadways presented a bit of a challenge, but it's worth it. The views of downtown Richmond and the James River are amazing. And we were able to pay respects to three presidents: Tyler, Monroe, and Davis. In a bit of historical irony, Jefferson Davis's statue faces the Grant family plot!

My husband does Way mlMarking which is an activity which is kind of tied into geocaching. It's locating interesting places. Cemeteries have lots of interesting historical places to waymark. So I've seen a lot of cemeteries. This is one of the top three cemeteries I've ever been to. It is absolutely beautiful. There are so many old trees and interesting structures and memorials. I love the fact there's no plastic flowers or decorations. We met the gentleman who gives the chores and spent time sharing the history of the cemetery with my husband and it really made the visit all that more interesting. We'll be going back soon and next time we plan on taking the tour. It's well worth the visit, even if you're not sure you're into cemeteries. It's just a beautiful place.

If you live near Washington, D.C. and have already explored all the Smithsonian museums, and you're looking to venture a bit farther, this place is worth the trip. It’s not huge, but it offers a thoughtfully curated collection — and best of all, it’s open year-round and completely free. The surrounding scenery is also beautiful, making it a perfect getaway for those who want a peaceful break from the everyday hustle. The current Frida Kahlo exhibition didn’t quite meet my expectations, as it features more writing than artwork, but it’s still worth a visit. This is a museum where you can enjoy the playfulness of surrealism and discover the hidden modernity within ancient art.

There are a lot of great works of art! More Egyptian items than I have seen other places. That was very neat to see. The Faberge eggs were very interesting. I really enjoyed the section with the black walls and the lighting on the paintings. That really made them pop! We also enjoyed the giant paintings!

Wedding Venue: We had an amazing experience planning and hosting our wedding at the VMFA!!! Beth was awesome to work with through the planning process, and wedding weekend. She was kind, helpful, professional, responsive, and we had full confidence in her executing our event! She helped provide all the critical info up front, answered all our questions through the process, provided guidance, vendor suggestions (DJ was amazing), helped coordinate details for some of the other vendors, and overall was a calming presence that put us at ease. The wedding logistics were executed flawlessly, and it was such a nice feeling to be able to have full confidence in Beth and the staff, and truly be able to enjoy the day/evening. The venue itself (Amuse & Claiborne) was perfect, and our guests were raving about it - they enjoyed the different rooms to talk and dance, and enjoyed the patios. The food was incredible (especially the mac and cheese!), we loved having so many options as a part of the station dinner, and guests really liked having the food out all evening. The bar never had a line, everything was efficient, and guest enjoyed the selection. Most importantly, we and our guests noticed and appreciated how every staff member we interacted with was so nice, helpful, and were just a positive addition to our evening. Lastly, we loved all the different outdoor options for pictures, including a private first look in the front of the building. The grounds are so beautiful! Thank you to Beth and the entire VMFA staff for everything they did to make our wedding weekend perfect, smooth, and SO much fun - we are so grateful! I visited the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and absolutely loved it! The Frida Kahlo exhibition was incredible, so inspiring and beautifully curated. The museum itself is spacious and elegant, with a great atmosphere for art lovers. I really enjoyed spending time there, and I’d love to go back to explore more of their collections!

This museum is both active and peaceful between the inside and the outside. It's a go-to for me. This is fantastic place with an incredible collection, whether you're into art or you're just checking it out for the first time.

My son and I went today. It was an incredible experience in no small part because of the wonderful people who work there. I am bad at jotting names down to remember them for reviews but.. the lady on the first floor from Texas was kind and directed us to some amazing art. The gentileman on the second floor with the nice mustache was helpful. And Mary in the cafe showed us compassion and gentilness in a very embarassing moment. Thank you VMFA y'all rock and your space is amazing. All the love from your new Texas friends we're already plotting our next visit!

It was really nice, quiet garden to walk, hang out place. You can picnic or just lay down and take nap! I went here with my husband. We walk to the down to see Japanese garden and Italian garden. We saw a lot of squirrels and deers. It was amazing. I love nature and i like the way they take care of this place except bamboos. Please, take good care of those bamboos! Bamboos symbolize very good fortune. The park/garden was not dog friendly unfortunately. That is why I gave only 3 stars just because bamboos (one of my favorite plant) and I couldn’t bring my well behave dog. I would still recommend this place, family friendly, stuff were friendly. It is also nice date idea. It is a romantic place. Oh, there is a parking lot.

Free, lots of free parking. The mansion is closed under renovation/construction but still had a great time walking around the Japanese and Italian garden. Didn't manage to walk the entire park butvwhat we did was beautiful. Went end of October and still had lots of beautiful colorful flowers. I recommend taking water and snacks.

I’ve been to this place during the day with my kids, and it is absolutely fantastic. It has a huge green meadow, beautiful Japanese gardens, and plenty of deer to watch. Everything is incredibly scenic and peaceful — a perfect way to spend time with kids and family. They also have a great play area, some cool animals, and lots of photogenic spots. I definitely recommend visiting! During the fall, they host a “Glow Night,” which was really awesome and such a fun experience.

Me and a friend stopped here to stretch our legs. Beautiful property. The Italian and Japanese gardens were very pretty. It is hilly so it may be challenging for some. Especially since some of the paths are under construction.

Maymont is a beautiful Park located in Richmond. They have beautiful gardens to walk in. They have lots of animals to pet and feed. The fee is free to get in. They have the garden Glow going on right now. It takes about 90 minutes to walk through the whole thing. We love maymont and we come here about once a month. You can never appreciate the beauty of it enough.

We only went for the Garden Glow experience and arrived pretty late in the night. It was a bit chilly around halloween, but we bundled up and had a great time. The Japanese Garden is a must see experience, I wish we had more time here. We did the hike and unless you have limitations with walking I would suggest it over taking the tram. Overall, it was a great experience and worth the money we spent on it.

Maymont is a must see Richmond landmark and shouldn't be missed. It has beautiful and unique formal gardens, an animal farm, a historic home, a nature center and so much more. Years ago I attended a wedding at the Italian Gardens and it was a beautiful ceremony. The Italian Gardens are right behind the historic mansion. In front of the mansion is a grouping of the most amazing trees that my children loved having a picnic under. Maymont has benches set up under these trees. The fact that admission is free to all of the grounds and the farm area is amazing and quite the gift to Richmond. I hope people appreciate how unique and special this is. Highly recommend this special gem of a place.

Beautiful outdoor mall! As a Richmond native, I remember when short pump was all farmland! Now that we have the Short Pump Town Center, with its high end stores combined with commonly expected mall stores, it has become a HUB and f activity, even when not shopping! Lots of restaurants, places to gather by an outdoor fire pit, places to sit and relax by water fountains- it’s a lovely experience, whether shopping or not! Highly recommend.

One of my favorite malls I’ve ever been too to be honest (we’re not from here - just passing through). Very large, tons of shade, very well kept and as a bonus a few liminal spaces. Food was great and shopping experience was over all 9.5/10 (I prefer a higher end indoor mall).

Short Pump Town Centet is a lovely and easily accessible place to visit if you’re ever in the Richmond area. Check out these cute lights on a recent Fall evening. They also have family play areas (and seats for adults to supervise) and a cute little train that runs most days of the week. Restrooms are always clean. Lots of restaurant options and plenty of stores to visit for all ages.

My first time at this mall and it was huge!! More of an outlet kind of mall, but it had all the stores I could’ve dreamed of. Movie theater is near by too.

Very beautiful town center. Nice architecture and well-known shops. There is also a restaurant area that has nice restaurants. It is good to plan when to go since most of the town center is uncovered.

This mall is a great place for walking and window shopping. If you are okay with being outdoors, then this is mall for you. Several departments stores for those who want to walk inside. Unique food court and great restaurants attached. ( Maggianos, Firebirds just to name a few) Train rides for kids is popular attraction.

Had the most amazing time at the zoo and our added on Hippo experience. McKenna, the woman who lead our experience, was super knowledgeable, fun and kind. She has so many fun facts and was great addition to the experience of seeing and feeding Iris and Poppy. I highly recommend the zoo and the extra experiences. The other animals all were in exhibits that were closer than I was used to which was cool. They’re in the process of building expansions and larger/newer enclosures too so I’ll definitely be back to see that in the future. Thank you again McKenna for such an amazing experience and so much fun in the rain. And for the amazing photos you took of us so we could always remember this adventure!

I had the absolute BEST time at the Richmond Metro Zoo! I went on a Friday in the fall and it was perfect—not crowded at all, which made the whole experience so pleasant. I’ve been to a lot of zoos over the years, but this one truly stands out as my favorite. The variety of animals is incredible, with species from Asia, South America, and Africa. My favorite part was feeding the giraffes—what a special, unforgettable opportunity! The sky lift ride was another highlight, gliding right over zebras and rhinos. And feeding the birds? An absolute riot—I couldn’t stop laughing! Seeing a skunk, komodo dragon, tarantulas, Cappies and cheetahs was amazing! The animals were so unique (so many amazing monkeys!) and clearly well cared for, and the staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Honestly, I had so much fun I didn’t want to leave. If you’re looking for a zoo experience that’s both exciting and memorable, Richmond Metro Zoo is the place to go. Highly recommend!

I went in with low expectations because of Tripadvisor/ reddit reviews but this zoo actually ended up being pretty good. We went on a weekday and it wasnt crowded. Some of the exhibits could be a bit bigger/better, especially for the small primates but many other exhibits were the same size/enrichment Ive seen at multiple AZA zoos. They had multiple babies, which was fun. Over half of the small primate enclosures had a baby. The 6 cheetah cubs were adorable, though a bit hard to see due to distance. The dog/cheetah combined enclosure was something new and i learned that dogs are routinely used as emotional support for cheetahs in zoos. The budgie area was super fun and we went in around 2pm after multiple people already had been. Feeding the giraffes was super fun too. The actual concession stand wasnt crazy overpriced, compared to other zoos Ive been too. My son also really liked the playground next to the food concessions by the petting zoo. It was a bit out of the way for me as we live in Newport News, but we'll likely come back once a year.

My friends and I did the Poppy experience and it was SO WORTH IT. McKenna was super knowledgeable, answered all our questions, and gave us a wonderful experience. Poppy and Iris were out and hungry. It was so much fun to get up close and personal with them. We walked around the rest of the zoo after leaving Hippo Haven and it was such a good time. The zoo has plenty of exhibits and activities for little kiddos to do. I recommend buying tickets in advance since the ticket line looked long when we got there and we were able to breeze through with on-line tickets. This zoo is super fun to go to and the keepers and staff are super friendly. I highly recommend the Metro Richmond Zoo.

We had an amazing time at the Galapagos tortoise experience. McKenzie provided lots of interesting facts and the tortoises were surprisingly friendly and expressive. Always love feeding the giraffes and visiting with the budgies! The new exhibit areas looked wonderful. My son and I had a great afternoon!

I took my Best Friend to feed and visit with Poppy and Iris! It was nice perfect. The guide was so knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We got to be up close to the adorable Pygmy Hippos in a safe way for both us ans them. They were so sweet! It was super easy to sign up for. 10/10 would recommend!

I really liked going there and I came away with more knowledge than I had. The animals on exhibit all appeared healthy and well kept. Workers were cleaning and tending habitats behind the scenes all over the place. I really liked how close you could be to some of the animals and even feed them. Hopefully the cheetahs can go to other facilities when they're old enough and help repopulate the species. That is the goal of conservation and zoological parks after all. Parking was ample, entry was really easy, it was a beautiful day so I expected it to be more crowded but it was not. I would give this facility 5 star, but I really think they need to update their signage because much was sun faded and some banners tattered. It's the details that people notice when you're taking care of animals. It would be a better impression.

I just moved to this area from NoVa and always took my kids to Cox’s Farm every fall. I was pleased to find a pumpkin farm just a nice. It was a beautiful day and there were alot of fun activities, great vendors and food. It was a little pricey to get in and I’m sure it goes to a good cause to keep the farm going. We’ll be back next year.

It was ok. I think they could use a few more activities for older kids. It's really geared for little kids. I think they could also use an Apple cider cart with Apple cider doughnuts. Oh, and the road going to it is very narrow. Proceed with caution and drive slowly!

I went with a friend to the sunflower and sweet corn festival. We enjoyed a beautiful day picking sunflowers and zinnias, riding on a trolley pulled by a tractor, and eating hot dogs, sweet corn, and watermelon!

Chesterfield Berry Farm offers a fantastic "u-pick" strawberry picking experience. Although the prices are a bit high, the quality of the strawberries more than makes up for it. The berries are incredibly sweet and fresh, making it well worth the visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking to pick their own delicious strawberries and enjoy a day at the farm!

I went with my granddaughter and her kids yesterday, not even worth the drive. I could have taken them to our park, and they would have had more fun. Not worth the trip during the week, they don't seem to care about people that can't attend during the weekend. It should have been free.

We were given a Groupon for 4 people for the ultimate package ($103.96!). We decided to go on Friday having NO idea that it was basically a play park you could buy pumpkins from, no bouncy houses, not even the chalk room to write on walls was ready on Friday. NOTHING was setup what so ever! They didn't tell us it would have been better to come back Saturday 😡. What a waste of money and SUCH a disappointment! Will not EVER be going back! I took LOTS of pictures to add, but it won't let me. It's just pictures of flat nothingness.

Nice place.. Went for strawberry picking with kids and we all enjoyed a lot.. Reasonable price.. Parking is also good. No restrictions for kids and they can have a lot of fun here.. Kids fun zone is available within the farm. You can have the live experience with the honeybee 🍯. Kids can have the real time experience with the farm environment.

Small carriage museum donated to the town by local family. It was interesting, well organized and informative. I would recommend it if in town.

More Carriages from more eras in one place at one time than I have ever seen in my life. Very nice collection. Very well maintained. I hope the town continues to take good care of them. Definitely worth the visit if you like horse carriages. Nothing for kids to climb on unfortunately.

We had a very enjoyable time here with a group from out of town visiting Blackstone. Had known it was here but had no idea how large the collection was. A great activity for both locals and visitors!

This antique mall is definitely worth a visit! Friendly staff, and a HUGE variety of items new, old, and in between. It does take a few hours to see absolutely everything this place has to offer, but well worth it!

I love this place! They have a huge variety of vintage and antique items. There are things to buy for all budgets. You can go broke lol or have fun spending just a few bucks. Everything from toys to jewelry to furniture, plus lots more! The staff are always friendly too. This is definitely one of our fav antique malls. Easy 5 stars!

Absolutely loved this place. It's much larger inside than it appears at first glance. Highly recommend it. You might want to split your visit into two. There's so much to see. Everything from Depression glass to gasoline signs, furniture to ornamental yard flamingos, jewelry to old spice containers, there's something for everyone. The women in the front are so kind and are a pleasure to deal with. Great experience.

Found this gem on our way home and what a find it was! Lots of vendors with some old and some new. Definitely something for anyone! The entire store was clean and organized and the mother and daughter team at the front were super sweet! Not only that but the music playing was awesome! You can never get sick of listening to Queen! I have recently moved into the area and purchased a house on Lake Gaston. With this new transition, my wife wanted a new couch for the new lake house. We were both surprised that Blackstone had a large family-owned furniture store with a large selection. I went into the store to look for a couch and could afford a complete family without breaking the bank. The staff was friendly and patient with us and provided expert ideas to bring our room/home together, especially Ben. It was like I was part of the family on how continuously accommodated us. They even delivered to Bracey and put the room together for my wife. It was worth the trip to Blackstone, VA, and I will be buying more from the Blackstone Emporium soon.
