Camden Park

Mentioned on
6 lists
Amusement park
Water & Amusement Parks
Camden Park is a classic amusement park located just outside of Huntington, West Virginia. Established in 1903 as a picnic spot for railroad employees, it has evolved into the oldest amusement park in the state. The park offers about 30 rides, including a famous wooden roller coaster, as well as attractions like a charming old carousel and haunted house. Families love visiting Camden Park for its affordable prices and the option to bring their own food or enjoy meals from on-site vendors.
I've never been here before, even though it's only 7 miles away and I've driven past it for years! It was definitely an experience, had a fun time riding rides I know my father rode when he was a kid. The creeking from the rides is a little off putting but you kind of just have to push past that if you wanna have any fun lol the prices were not terrible and it wasn't super crowded for a Saturday. The swan paddleboats were fun but man was is a lot of work lol the ski lift was nice and relaxing in the cooler air. All the staff was super friendly was seemed to enjoy working here. It was pretty clean and had food and water places available.
Kyojuro R — Google review
Went on opening day and its a small park with a couple rides and coasters but its got charm and a vintage feel with most of the rides being classic rides. it was a sham Big Dipper was closed on the day i went but could of been due to the weather and the park could use some TLC but overall i had a fun time. if you are in the area looking for something to do its a good 1 to 2 hour pitstop
Evan S — Google review
My daughter's 1st grade class got to go. It was in surprisingly good shape their was3 or 4 rides down including the big dipper. But the other rides were great. It was a great walk down memory lane.
Rachel F — Google review
I wouldn’t suggest making a special trip there. It needs a lot of updating. The rides made me think they were handed down from other companies. It’s a small location and I guess if it’s all you can get if you live around there then you make the best of it. The staff were very friendly. That’s a positive. Maybe I am just used to big commercialized amusement parks.
Laughing4u2day — Google review
Fun for what it is. Especially for the 13 and under age group. Some areas look nice, others not so much. All staff were friendly and if you look past the cigarette butts all over, its not a bad place to spend a day. I wish WV govt would help with a refresh of the park to keep it alive and thriving for another 100 years!
Greg R — Google review
Camden Park is such a fun and nostalgic place to visit. It truly has that classic amusement park charm that you don’t find much anymore. The rides are exciting and bring out the kid in everyone! The Big Dipper is an absolute must, it’s one of those timeless coasters that gives you the perfect mix of thrill and history. The Whip is always a blast, and the tram ride offers an awesome view of the park from above. Mini golf is another highlight, surrounded by fountains and beautiful water features that make the experience even better. The atmosphere here feels lively and welcoming, with plenty to see and do. It’s the kind of place that captures the feeling of summer fun perfectly. The park’s scenery, especially around the water and old-fashioned buildings, gives it that classic amusement park feel that’s hard to beat. The only downside is that some rides are occasionally closed when I visit, which can be a little disappointing if you’re looking forward to certain attractions. But overall, Camden Park is a gem, full of character, charm, and fun for all ages. Definitely worth the trip!
The M — Google review
Our first time and it was great! A very friendly staff and the rides were fun. My only complaint is the whole place is in dire need of updating and cleaning, which, being an amusement park, is what they all need at times😉!

Very good fun for younger kids , quite a few rides not running though

Time-tested community space flanked by mature trees, with a dog park, ball fields & exercise paths.
My dogs and I go over there all the time when we're in town and walk around it!! We enjoy it and lot and I love how they have the 2 foundations for the doggies!! I wished they had more around the outside of the park for the doggies to drink besides just those 2 foundations, but hey it's better then nothing!!

Today, we took our grandchildren to play at the park. Ages 8, 3, and 2, and I can honestly say everyone (adults and kids) had a phenomenal day! They truly enjoyed the splash pad, and it kept them cooled off after a few hours of playing at Central Park! We look forward to the next time they get to visit.

Paramount Arts Center

Performing arts theater
Concerts & Shows
Theater performances, concerts & private events in a circa-1931 art deco building.
I've always enjoyed concerts at the paramount. It's a wonderful historical venue. Great acoustics. My most recent visit was for the festival of trees. You just can't see it without leaving happy. Go visit this place & support them. It's a great wholesome activity to bring kids to.
Jeff F — Google review
Great little venue! Excellent pricing. The venue is small and seating is close- the first few rows are literally movable chairs- however the cost of the ticket is competitive and the seats have excellent views no matter what seat you choose. This show wasn't sold out, which is sad given the proximity to Huntington and surrounding cities. We travelled a couple of hours, but I check the site for artists often. When we booked a hotel room, the lady wasn't aware of the concert. With the rich history of the beautiful theater and the emerging space downtown, this is a fun experience! Thanks for the fun evening! Buckcherry and Guns for Hire put on great shows!
Kelli K — Google review
Great place! The venue is beautiful. Tad small but they still bring in great acts! It was a little tight where we sat but we're bigger people. Seats were comfortable. Not a bad seat in the house. Will definitely be going back.
Sondra D — Google review
Great small venue no bad seats in the house
Steve J — Google review
I've been enchanted from the first childhood visit to the Paramount. The atmosphere in this timeless grandeur has been preserved by some very dedicated and talented people and that makes me happy so many more generations can enjoy it. Always class act performances from past, present, future entertainers. Elegant and intimate venue. Prices are affordable for a fun night. I’d Recommend to anyone!!
TA B — Google review
Because of my love for The Judds and Ashland KY- this theater was a treat to work with on the Randy Travis More Life Tour. Naomi Judds little dancing shoes from 3rd grade were displayed in the lobby!
Tennesseeterry28 — Google review
Really cool old theater. Sound was good view was great. Balcony left row a seats 4,5,6 have a hallway underneath so legroom is great. (Guessing the same on the other side.)
Kurt A — Google review
We were lucky enough to attend a private performance at the Paramount Arts Center. Not only was this a special, once-in-a-lifetime performance, featuring one of my favorite artists. It also allowed me to see what the good people and leaders of Kentucky are doing for their fellow neighbors and how they are benefiting the area. Tyler Childers sounded phenomenal. His band, sounded amazing. I've frequented some of the very best venues in the Midwest. Paramount is special. Paramount is rich with historical beauty and the sounds of passion, may very well be carried over from performances past. I will be following Paramount Arts Center, closely. Looking for the next opportunity to be part of whatever they are featuring! We look forward to returning soon.

Carter Caves State Resort Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Hiking area
Lodge
This is a hidden gem of a park and resort lodge. Stayed here 2 days in August, 2025. Rooms are clean and AC works. Shower good and bathroom exhaust fan worked. Price very affordable (under $100. a night). Lots of cave tours, and hiking was incredible -- amazing rock formations to see. Would not recommend the lodge restaurant. Did not try pool or lake, but they're included in a lodge stay. Lodge staff and park guides very responsive and informative. I do wish the web instructions on cave tour schedules were more clear, and how to book tours was clearer. The carpeting in the main lodge needs replacing, but it's a small detraction. This place is great.
Robert O — Google review
We had a wonderful time at Carter Caves State Resort Park. The weather was beautiful, so we focused on hiking to the 5 different natural bridges. There are cave tours, horse back riding, and even an area for repelling. If you are local, it is a great place for a day trip, picnic, or family get together. If you travel to the park, I would suggest staying 2 or 3 days at the campground, lodge, or one of the cottages. Carter Caves is very scenic with a number of beautiful views, streams, and a lake. The picnic areas have tables, grills, and access to play areas. Carter Caves has pavilions, but I would suggest contacting the park to see if you can reserve them. I would highly recommend visiting Carter Caves State Resort Park and beginning your visit at the welcome center to see everything they have to offer. Please see the pictures I posted which include the brochure, cave tour pricing, and maps. Important! Contact the park in advance regarding camping. Camping is either very limited or closed at this time. Carter Caves is renovating the campground and installing full hookups at many of the campsites.
Mark B — Google review
Park is in great shape. Very cool drive into the park that winds along the river. We did the X cave tour with our 2 toddlers, they had a fantastic time. We also played mini golf and camped in the primitive campsite. Overall very impressed with this park and encourage anyone to visit!
Pete W — Google review
Booked my elderly parents at the hotel for a treat in their travels. The room ( whilst older in structure) was very, very comfortable. They were well treated, with extra care and their needs were meet. The resturant nearby the hotel is service by the park and they enjoyed the friendly waitstaff and the food was very good and within a reasonable price zone for them. They said they look foward to visiting the park again.
James D — Google review
Have been coming here every year for the last 4 years with family that comes in town. We have only been able to do the x-caves tour with our timing but have had the best time each tour. Each guide has been different and they all know different things. Expect to duck down in certain areas of the cave if you are tall. I am 62 inches and didn't have to at all. Pack a sweater if you get cold. The shop at the welcome center has cute memorabilia and the best pull candy! Grabbing a bag of the gem mining bags was a hit with the little ones(3&7yr old). You get to sift through it on site while you wait for your tour to start. You can also take the trail down to the living bridge.
Amber C — Google review
Just spent a couple days here with my 3yo daughter and we had the best time! Staff was wonderful and treated us both like royalty. Restaurant was wonderful, as well. Excellent service and super friendly and helpful staff. We will definitely return in the future!
Josh W — Google review
We stay here every year when visiting family in Grayson. The park is beautiful, family friendly and pet friendly. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable! Nothing but good things to say. The only negative “for me” is driving back from Grayson into the park at night … the roads are very curvy and it’s dark!!
D M — Google review
We visited in November. What a gorgeous time of year to see the park! If you are in this area, this park is definitely a must-see! So many interesting caves and nice trails.

Portsmouth Floodwall Mural

Art gallery
Sights & Landmarks
Vast outdoor mural depicting a series of vignettes showcasing local history, painted by one artist.
If you are anywhere near Portsmouth, I highly recommend you to stop and walk around the Ohio River and see the murals on the Portsmouth flood wall. This is an amazing labor of love for art and history as well as local and state culture. Don’t forget to check out both sides of the wall, on the town side and on the river side. There is a park on the river side as well. Enjoy!
Sam S — Google review
All the art was very well done! We got to see a few painters doing some touch up work on one of the panels, so that was cool! It's much bigger than I thought it would be actually. We drove the length of it due to the heat wave, but I'm planning on walking it this fall.
Kevin M — Google review
All I can say is WOW! This paintings are absolutely beautiful and the artists are absolutely amazing! They look so real! If you’re in or traveling thru Portsmouth Ohio take a little time out to see these masterpieces in person! Side note. The opposite side of the street tells you about them if you walk it and want to read all about them.
Adam Z — Google review
Second visit to these murals and second time we got chased away by a thunderstorm. The murals are great and well worth the trip off the main highway to visit. The pictures and information plaques have a wealth of history about the surrounding community. We will be back to finish the tour.
Kenneth V — Google review
I've been here on numerous occasions, but every time I'm near here with someone who hasn't seen them, I always play tour guide. The amount of hand painted detail on each panel is awe-inspiring, and each time I visit, I pick out something I've missed prior. If you're ever in the Portsmouth, Ohio area, you owe yourself to follow the "Floodwall Mural" signs. You'll be glad you did.
Jeremy S — Google review
A world class experience right here on the Ohio River
David H — Google review
Holy flood wall!! This thing is massive and a great way to post the history of Portsmouth. Start at the beginning and walk the entire length of the wall for the full experience. At one end there is a visitor center with restrooms and a plethora of information for other activities for the city. We parked on the street at the beginning. I didn’t see any parking lots dedicated to the wall but I’m sure there are some open lots around. We just decided to grab what we found. I completely recommend a stop to learn about the rich history of the town.
Cheryl E — Google review
This was really neat to see. I had heard about it from friends who have visited the area. I wish I would of had more time to read all the information they have at every murals and check out all the details. You could probably easily spend 1-2 hours here if you read everything. Great job to the artist who painted these.

Shawnee State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park
Nature reserve popular with walkers & campers for its lake beaches, boat rentals & picnic spots.
The new Ohio River Campground is a lovely and well thought out development. The sites are decent sized, paved and have water, electric and sewer on site. It has a good sized bathroom, shower house and laundry building. The amenities are even available during winter! There is also disc golf, archery, kayak loop, splash pad, dog park, camp store and trails on site. The one trail is paved and relatively flat. There is noise from the road and from the train, but those weren't that bad. Also, the picnic tables are on cement pads and are secured.
April B — Google review
Shawnee Ohio River is a great little park. It has 80 full hookups, a shower house, a playground and splash pad for kids. It has a bike path, park store, and dump station. This park is only seven miles from Shawnee State Park, and the lodge where you can go swimming. Portsmouth is a cute little town close by. They have several restaurants a grocery store. Lots of antique shops, and the flood wall mural. Take a drive over the bridge to Kentucky. Or drive the Ohio River scenic by-way. If you want a day trip check out Rocky Fork state park and catch some lunch or dinner at the porch carryout and grill in Hillsboro Ohio. The food was fantastic! Have a great time!
Carol S — Google review
Enjoyed the hiking in this park with our dog! The cabin size is nice. Playground is for younger kids. Lodge is okay, pool is nice, restaurant food in the lodge is okay. Staff is friendly & polite. Cabin was clean but the kitchen had roaches. Told the lodge management.
J C — Google review
Great a getaway place. We spent 2 nights here in March 2025. In our cabin, internet and cable didn’t work, exactly what we wanted.
SUO F — Google review
This is a beautiful and peaceful state park! Not too crowded and has great outdoor activities !
Kathryn R — Google review
Everywhere we went in the park was clean and well kept. The hiking trails were some of the best kept trails we've been on in Ohio, but the informational plaques need to be cleaned. The campground was busy and the staff was super friendly. Verizon service is almost not existent in the park area.
Kim H — Google review
Great place for a day trip or vacation. The lodge is beautiful with a balcony to view the scenery. There are cabins and camping sites. The campgrounds offer a small store with a gift shop, boats to rent. There is also miniature golf, disc golf, hiking trails, a nature center and a historic cabin set up as a museum. Picnic area is by the campgrounds and plenty of swimming spots.
Jackie W — Google review
Hiked the north and south loops recently. Trails are maintained fairly well and easy to follow. They do go pointlessly up and down. It's almost like they tried to every hill they could, which is fine, but no views make the climbs rewarding. The water cisterns were super convenient and am thankful for the work they put in. Wouldn't really recommend these hikes unless you just want to be in the woods. It's nice to have a place to backpack around Ohio, we all know Ohio's landscape is lackluster. Happy trails friends ✌🏻

Lake Alma State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Parks
Featuring a serene lake & creek, this forested park offers campsites, 3 hiking trails & fishing.
It was amazing! The water sparkled like diamonds in the sun. People were there fishing, swimming, exercising, and walking their dogs. The air was so fresh. It's a nice place to take family. You can rent boats there to take out on the water, too. I love it!
Angela O — Google review
Fantastic! 🤩 Rented a 5-person pontoon boat—we were all in love with how clean Lake Alma State Park is. The sand at the beach is well-maintained. The water looks less dirty than some other lakes in the region too. The boat rentals don’t have a 2-hr minimum like some other parks nearby. I think they are also cheaper than places like Lake Logan overall. It’s a beautiful park, clean, along with perfect amenities like charcoal grills, picnic tables, and playgrounds. The bigger boats are electric—they don’t go super fast but trolling around was perfect on a day like today (75 degrees & sunny 😎 ) Also, the beach hasn’t been very busy the few times we have visited. Great spots (or boat) for fishing!!
Natalie D — Google review
We had a 2 nights stay at Alma Lake State Park. This is the first time camping at this location. It was toward the middle to latter part of Sept. 2025. Arriving there was not too difficult, we came in from US 50 and down Oh-93. It is a one way road in and around the lake to the check-in station. Checking in was easy since we had reservations. I booked an electric site only, so we had to take on water for showers and washing dishes and toilet purposes. At the entrance is the dump station, there is potable water on the left just after the dump. At first we were kinda of skeptical about this place cause when we were looking for our spot there were two guys sitting by a campfire with cases of beer and playing music rather loudly. At night fall the music went off and it was super quiet. The spots are very close together, and the vault toilets leave alot to be desired. But this is why we have a restroom in our RV.(Sorry tent campers) the whole campground is in a valley surrounded by hills. It is one way in, one way out. In the center is a more modern wash and restroom facility with showers. I cannot comment on that one since we did not go into it. Would we visit this location again, probably would. Sorry no pics, this was a device free camping trip for me, wanted to be unplugged for the weekend!
C S — Google review
Stayed 2 nights. It was very quiet and loved that there are a lot of trees, not just some mowed down grassy area, that we call a campground. With that said, the sites are way to close together and luckily we have a camper with a bathroom because the bathrooms were terrible! The road thru the campground is one lane for bothe directions, and the dump station (1) is at the entrance. So imagine how long that line will get. Even if you aren't dumping, your not getting around, you will be waiting!
Lisa S — Google review
Beautiful lake and a nice place to camp. The park staff and host were very friendly and helpful.
Doug C — Google review
Nice little campground with nearby fishing and nearby lake beach. Very kid friendly. Shorter hiking trails, but the hills are a workout. Store seems closed during supposed open hours, but staff are usually very close to open. Some beautiful sites, some super close to their neighbor. Most are electric.

We had an absolute blast there! Showed up at 2pm and took it slow talking to most vendors. We enjoyed the small gunfight, and then really loved the effort in all the Christmas lights. My mom, being a horse fanatic, loved it as her Christmas present. Fun for the whole family.

Such an Amazing experience that I had, The history and reenactors are so fun. If you love anything about history or just want to see a reenactment or bust or even Wild West Shows this is definitely the place to go and check out.
Amanda H — Google review
My girlfriend and I are on vacation in southern Ohio and randomly somehow found this when googling what was around. And it was some of one of the coolest things I’ve been too. The actors are all very funny and kind, the town itself is so cool to walk through, and it’s only $15. Crazy worth it. I even had an actor sit on my lap during one of the shows, can’t beat that
BMJ — Google review
Our visit was during their Christmas event and the lights were beautiful. Real old town feel and nicely orchestrated. The grinch show is a must see!
Nicole H — Google review
We had a chance to see Dogwood Pass Slaughter Holler & it was a 10/10. One of the best haunted trails we have been on this year and would recommend to anyone wanting a fun but scary experience! The actors and actresses put on a really good show! We have now went twice & like I said if you haven’t been, and they are still open I would recommend going!! It was great & we will be returning again & again! 100% recommend.
Kaitalyn W — Google review
Super unique place. Didn’t get to see any shows but I’m sure they’re fun. Everyone who works there was kind and fun to talk to. Can spend as little or as much time as you want there. No tickets in advance. $15 per person, cash only.
Elijah S — Google review
Attended their Haunted trail. I am a bit jaded as I have been to a lot of Haunted attractions. Theirs isn't too bad, the actors get in their roles and some are actually funny. Well to me anyway. I recommend you give it a try.
Shane S — Google review
We had a great time, the show was family friendly and had our 10year old, teens and us adults all laughing. They do different shows through out the day all of which are entertaining. There is a section of seating that is shaded, the rest are in the sun (so keep that in mind or bring sunscreen). There is lots of themed stores, houses and other town businesses to look in, all with lots of old time artifacts and is set up to be realistic. There is also a few gift shops to purchase foods, jewelry, clothing, guns and other souvenirs. There is gem mining and old time photos you can do as well. The saloon sells root beer in a bottle for $3 and water for $1 with a saloon bar keep to serve you and plenty of seating. The people who run the old time photos are quick and very friendly and do a great job would recommend getting them done(they accept credit and debit cards and the building does have AC, though keep in mind all the other stores are cash only). There is also a Roy Rogers museum filled with lots of interesting memorabilia. Tickets are $15 a person and 6 and under are free, cash only. There is an ATM on site if needed. We had a great time and can’t wait to go back for Halloween and Christmas. All the staff was extremely friendly and polite. We had a really great time!

Miller's Furniture

Long-running Amish bakery offering breads & pretzels, along with cookies & other sweet treats.
We love coming out to the Amish places. We mainly come out to get baked goods and meat and cheese. I would definitely consider furniture from them if I ever needed some. We still have chairs that we bought from them over 25 years ago that are still doing well other than maybe needing to be refinished after the 25 plus years.

There is every kind of indoor and outdoor furniture that you could ever hope to see here all in a vast array of stains and colors. Sizes to fit everyone...but wish there were more options for the shorter/smaller person. Very kind people that lets you look...no pushy sales. Quality is excellent and prices are accordingly. There is also playground equipment and put buildings to small homes. On the same property is a bulk buy store and a baked goods and gift store. All are very nicely stocked. Prices to fit any budget.

Miller’s Bakery is amazing and all the food was mouthwatering delicious. We tried it all from the extra large glazed donut, that was so fluffy and sweet, to the awesome long johns (they have VANILLA and chocolate), pretzel wrapped hot dog, chocolate chip cookie vanilla frosting sandwich, and their homemade deli sandwiches. The food was so amazing you could taste that homemade goodness and care taken with it all. After getting eating, the kids could play around the wonderful grounds and the parents could enjoy all the shops. The people were all friendly and definitely a place to stop by again for more treats.

UPDATE!!!!!!! I explored the stores more, and I'm blown away. Dont buy furniture in Cincinnati!!! The quality here is by far superior and prices better!!! You cant lose. If you are in the market for kitchen cabinets, go nowhere else. These are the best quality and most beautiful kitchen cabinets ive ever seen, and I install kitchens for a living. Love this place!!!!!great selection of outdoor furniture, the indoor furniture is built better than chain stores and better price!

Still as excited as the first time to shop here. This was our first visit. I was so happy to see all the pickled vegetables, jams, sauces & so much more in the market. Then we went down to the bakery. When you walk in you just can't help but take a deep breath. Bread, doughnuts, pies & so much more. Outside was a lemonade & kettle corn stand. If you need barns, shed, indoor & outdoor furniture they have it. Can't wait to go back.

Love this area! The bakery is closed until March, but there's plenty to look at and they have beautiful and unique furniture.

Just drove over an hour to get here only for it to be closed. It claims to be open on the website. Beyond irritated with this, please make sure to let people know AHEAD of time.

Didn't realize this was here until I drove by. The furniture was absolutely gorgeous at the furniture store and had a smoked turkey sandwich and potato salad at the bulk foods store, and it was very good. Definitely worth a visit!

Serpent Mound State Memorial

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
National historic landmark comprising a 1,400-ft. serpent effigy built by prehistoric cultures.
The Great Serpent Mound should be an UNESCO World Heritage Site as it is the largest and best representation of an effigy mound in the world. This was my second time visiting Serpent Mound. I love visiting this mound for the cultural experience and aesthetics. It was a nice stroll around the mound on a paved path with an overlook. Unfortunately, the observation tower was closed which was a huge disappointment. The mound is best seen from high up. Due to the observation tower being a historical feature, it has to be restored which is costly. (Someone with means please donate the funds to restore!) My photos do not do the mound justice. The gift shop/museum is lovely offering a cool respite, information and nice souvenirs. Staff were friendly. The only other downside was the restrooms were closed and port o lets were available.

I have wanted to visit Serpent Mound for decades. It is smaller than I thought it would be, but it was no small feat for the Native Americans to have formed such a complex design for the mound. There is a paved path along the perimeter of the mound. There are a few bumps in the path due to tree roots, keep this in mind for both older walkers and wheelchairs. Mid-way there is an overlook that had several stepsdown to a stone wall. Overlooking the huge crater the mounds are built beside. If you are more adventuresome, there is also a nature trail. The observation tower is closed for repairs, we were told the projected completion date is January 31, 2026. We will go back when it is open. Seeing the entire mound from above will be awesome We took advantage of one of the picnic tables located under shade trees by a burial mound. There are flush bathroom at the parking area. The Visitor Center/ Gift Shop/ Museum are open. The $8.00 per car parking fee is paid there. (Ohio History Connection Members do not pay to park.)

I’m not usually interested in visiting historical sites, but this place truly captivated me. I’m not exactly sure why—maybe it was the atmosphere or the energy of the site—but I’ve visited other mounds and historical locations and haven’t had this experience before. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and appreciated the opportunity to learn as much as I could. I’m looking forward to coming back when the tower is open to take in the view from above.

Visited during Summer Solstice! Beautiful views and sunset. Went back next day to visit the museum and take the trails. I'm very glad to have gone. I'm always saddened at the thought of the long history lost and what has been lost to us in the name of progress or trying to conserve even... accidently, and out of ignorance at the times... disturbed ground and lost information... thank goodness for what has been saved and found out these days of course. Oh ! To have been witness to such greatness... and the indigenous Native Americans during that time.

If you ever get a chance, you should absolutely visit! It's something you can't fully appreciate until you have been there! I stayed in West Union at an Airbnb and they were absolutely amazing! Little cottages in the wooded area. I ever started my first fire 🔥! It is absolutely gorgeous in the Autumn 🍂 when the leaves are changing!

Let me say first that this is definitely a really cool sacred sight to see! I was more disappointed with the fact that we had to pay to park our car and walk around somewhere we only hung out for about 45 minutes. Any way they can get you to pay I guess. Cool historic site? Gotta pay to use parking lot and bathrooms. The background and history behind the Serpent mound was extremely fascinating though and I found it to be a very cool experience nonetheless.
Erin G — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyable. Very chill ride through the countryside to get to the site. Plenty of parking and shaded areas. There is a nice paved path that goes around the mound, and there are picnic areas in the shade to enjoy. The visitor center has a small exhibit to walk through with a brief orientation video. The visitor center has snacks and cold drinks for purchase. The metal observation tower from 1906 is still there but not available for use. At the very end of the mouth of the serpent, there is an observation deck with a nice view. Currently, the main bathrooms are out, but they have Porta potties as a backup.
Nathan P — Google review
A nice walk through the trails was perfect for cooling off after walking around the mound. I ended up here on the hottest day of the year lol. The nature was beautiful, lots of lovely insects. I found Jesus peeking out of a tree too! It was a great spot for a little hike.

Scioto Trail State Park Campground

Campground
Nature & Parks
State Parks
The Scioto Trail State Park Campground offers excellent accommodations and a variety of amenities. With a camp store, numerous campsites, and beautiful hiking trails, it provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities. The campground is relatively empty during mid-December with only a few campers present. Although the campsites are mostly level, there are no flush toilets or shower facilities available. Nevertheless, the peaceful atmosphere and abundant shade make for a pleasant camping experience.
Nice little park with picnic area playground, boat launch, restrooms, and outdoor theater area.

Ash Cave

Caverns & Caves
Enormous natural cavern with a waterfall surrounded by woodlands with hiking trails.
Ash Cave is one of the most beautiful and easily accessible spots in Hocking Hills. A quick walk through a serene, fern-filled gorge opens up to a massive, breathtaking horseshoe-shaped cave. The seasonal waterfall is the perfect centerpiece, and the sheer scale of the cave is unforgettable. Definitely an amazing time!

This place is absolutely gorgeous It's so big and vast. The floor is like a sanded dirt and it's a great place to take children Its incredibly beautiful. You can go out the way you came back in or you can decide to go up a more steep path and do a loop around. The bathrooms are out houses no plumbing It's a very clean place and there's access to a dumpster in the parking lot if you need to throw things away.
Erin S — Google review
This is a very cool place to stop and spend a little bit of time! The shear size if this is impressive and will definitely make you want to take a bunch of pictures. There is also a good bit of hiking after you visit the cave. The parking was fantastic and even though it was pretty busy it still seemed like we were not cramped with people. I very much suggest making a visit!
Josh R — Google review
This was a fairly easy hike and the trail to the recessed is considered wheelchair accessible. The last half of the hike has a few sets of stairs. The cave was stunning and when we got to the top some singers blessed our ears with their voices. The acoustics were outstanding. Never saw who broke into song but it was the highlight of our hike.

I've wanted to come here for years. My husband has started joining me on hiking adventures. So today we stopped by here and a couple other spots in the hocking hills area. We hiked from here to Cedar Falls and back. Beautiful hike! But you just can't capture how big and beautiful Ash cave is. It's just so cool to walk up to it and be like WOW! Then your under the overhang. Looking around you feel so small. It's truly stunning and would recommend checking it out!

This was a pretty easy walk to get to, but then it was steps out along a rim trail, unless you go against the one way, and go back the way you came! This was a huge cavern, very cool. Alot of photo opportunities! Worth seeing. Again, every walk through the these woods are beautiful!

Cedar Falls

Nature & Parks
Scenic spot
Hiking Trails
Nestled in a serene setting, The Inn and Spa at Cedar Falls offers a variety of accommodations including cabins, cottages, yurts, and geodomes. The yurts are particularly appealing to glamping enthusiasts with their spacious design featuring a king-sized bed and tiled shower. A visit to Cedar Falls on a Friday morning revealed a moderately busy parking lot with easy access to the falls via stairs and narrow rocky paths.
Beautiful trail and very easy to trek. When it's dry it is super family friendly. There's one slightly awkward 10 feet of trail past the falls back to the parking lot on the one way path but it's easy besides that. My kids did it in cross and we're totally fine. Just be cautious as it's a trail with rocks so watch your step. Absolutely beautiful and worth the short 1/2 mile walk from the lot.

Pretty great! Lots of stairs but a beautiful area and falls. Knocked a star off because the problem are the people who wade and swim in the water ruining a nice photo despite many signs saying you should not. Still very nice area! Watch walking across the stream as I witnessed many fall.
Dale P — Google review
Cedar Falls is one of the more peaceful spots in Hocking Hills. The walk to the falls is a treat in itself, with all the big hemlock trees and lush ferns. You can hear the water before you even see it, which just builds the anticipation. When you get there, it’s just a beautiful cascade of water pouring down over the rock cliff into a clear pool. It's not the tallest waterfall, but it's one of the prettiest. I loved just sitting on a rock and taking in the sound of the water and the cool mist. It’s the perfect place to just stop and relax for a bit, a definite highlight of the park.

Super cool! We were here in early October; the day befjre the falls were bone dry but after the 24 hours of rain it was spectacular!!pretty easy hike. Some stairs. Some narrow spots.
David K — Google review
Fun trail to get to the waterfall. It's a treat once you get to it, it's a great place to relax. Easy to make your way to the waterfall and snap some memorable pictures. Not too busy. If you're going with little kids in strollers then it's not accessible. You will have to carry them in your arms. Not wheelchair accessible either. There are different trails you can take. The shortest one is to the falls and back to the lot. Probably around 0.6 miles. Very doable and fun.
Hamza V — Google review
The trail is quite easy & enjoyable. Like walking into Narnia . The falls are magical. But there were to many people that don't know how to read . do t get in the water. Your dirty self will get in the water & everyone else up stream , is doing their deed, so it's coming down on you .
Pablo V — Google review
Cedar Falls is exceptional. The trails are picturesque and very well maintained. Other than some stairs to the exit, it is a very easy hike.

relatively small trail for cedar falls so the area by the waterfall tends to get crowded. i also would avoid doing after rain as stuff gets slippery and muddy. saw lots of people slip and fall but the scenery is beautiful.

If you haven't been, you need to go! Used to be 7 caves! It's great for kids and anyone wanting to get out and see the history of Southern Ohio. Paths are perfect, and the scenery is 1 of a kind. The caves are really cool to go through. The people inside are awesome and answer any questions you may have! You can make a day trip or weekend trip out of this. Paint Creek campgrounds aren't far away.

So many great trails in this place! Loved McKimmie's Cave, Valley of the Ancients, Three Sisters and many more. Nice little museum, very friendly and helpful people. The cave is a tight fit and you have to check out a key from the museum to access the trail to it. I had to take my pack off to squeeze in and it goes pretty far back. Totally worth it.

This is a review of the Barrier Ridge Trail that is located across the street from the Appalachian Forest Museum. The trailhead is located in the lower parking area. There is a sign indicating this and is easy to see. The trail is a 3 mile loop and is moderate to hard in difficulty. It is steep at times, and there is a lot of uphill hiking. The trails are well maintained, and parts of it are narrow and on the side of hills. There are switchbacks and steps along the trail that help with the steeper inclines. The gates to the parking area are closed at 4:30 pm. Allow yourself enough time for the hike so you're not locked in.

First, and most importantly—NO CELL PHONE SERVICE ON THESE TRAILS. This is the first time I was actually able to hike the trails of Appalachia. I figured I would put my comments of all the trails I hiked in one area. BARRETT’S RIM TRAIL- was a pretty simple trail loop. Approximately 2.75 mile loop. At the beginning you walk through a field, which could be hot in the summer. Once in the woods (majority of the trail) it is much better. The trail is well marked and easy to follow. There is a decline, taking you into The Valley of the trail and then an incline bringing you back out. The area (mainly in The Valley) is chok full of wildflowers. This includes the uncommon “shooting star” The VALLEY of the ANCIENTS trail is the same. A short trail. but much more rock formations. There is a steep decline (via stairs) into The Valley which takes you to a waterfall. Very beautiful. I also hiked the ETAWAH WOODS TRAIL.—This was also a gorgeous trail. Longer than The Valley trail but gorgeous as well. Nature preserves Parks Hiking Trails

Adena Mansion & Gardens Historic Site

Mentioned on

Historical place museum
Sights & Landmarks
Adena Mansion & Gardens Historic Site is a significant estate in Chillicothe, Ohio, originally belonging to Thomas Worthington, the state's sixth governor. The mansion was completed in 1807 and has been meticulously restored to reflect its original appearance when the Worthington family lived there. The tour of this historic site provides an immersive experience, guided by knowledgeable historians who share insights into the family's life and the region's history during the 1800s.
This place is great for those who appreciate early Ohio history. It gives us a slice of how Ohio became a state and how Thomas Worthington was instrumental during the process. The house was constructed by Thomas Worthington around 1803 and still stands in much the same way it did then. They have a museum that gives great background on the Worthington family and a house tour that last about 45 minutes. The grounds are beautiful and you can view the overlook that the Ohio State Seal was derived from. Tickets are $12 per person and well worth every penny! We have a rich history in Ohio and this place is a hidden gem right in our backyard!
Steve W — Google review
My 9 year old daughter and I toured the house and museum today. Quoting my daughter, "I LOVED it!" The grounds are beautiful, the house is so well preserved and the museum is interactive. Our tour guide was fantastic and really knowledgeable yet even kept a 9 year olds attention for an hour and half. Great place to check out to learn more about Ohio's early history.
Arden S — Google review
Nice visitor center with artifacts and great information on the history of the house and land. Tour guide was nice and very knowledgeable. Wish the garden area and grounds had been more kept up but they were working on it.
Carol S — Google review
Disappointing experience. I was so pumped to see a key piece of Ohio history, but I knew something was up when I saw a handful of people standing outside the visitor center. I looked through the doors to see that it was locked due to giving a guided tour, and a note said they'd be back soon (not a set time). I wonder if it was ultimately due to staffing issues After giving it some time, it was clear that I could not tour the mansion in my allotted timeframe, so I drove to the overlook, took in the Great Seal, and left. For such an important part of our state's history, this is unacceptable and the people of Ohio deserve better.
Maicon P — Google review
I toured this with a group. It was lovely. Beautiful! The tour was a lot of walking and stairs. It was worth it, but gosh.
Rhonda E — Google review
Wonderful visitor center with child friendly museum exhibits and clean restrooms greet you at Adena. The mansion tour is extremely interesting with the history of the Worthington family, several Ohio governors, two American presidents, and the Shawnee war chief Tecumseh interwoven with the history of the collections and the mansions architects and builders.

Our tour guide Brittany was so helpful and informative! Made our trip so enjoyable.

Took a mini vaca this week while kids were on fall break and went to hocking hills. Stayed in the Marriott in Chillicothe. During our stay the hotel worker suggested we check out this place. Didn’t really know anything about this place or that it even existed so we took the suggestion and went not really knowing what to expect. We went on Thursday. So glad we did! The tour was excellent and we learned so much that we didn’t really know before. Just being on the grounds that significant historical figures like Tecumseh once graced with their presence is something else! I came not really knowing who Thomas Worthington was and left knowing a whole lot more! Of course I had heard of Tecumseh and just knowing he stayed here is reason enough to come! Much of the house is original including much of the floors and the pave stones outside. They have a museum with the actual peace pipe tomahawk Tecumseh gave to Worthington as a symbol of peace, which is really cool! So you do timed guided tours and fyi the last tour before lunch is 11:30 and then tours resume at 1:30. I got there right at 11:30 and had to wait until 1:30. That’s ok because there are things you do on your own like explore the museum, barn, garden, so we were able to fill the time. They don’t have food except a couple snack items in gift shop so don’t come hungry. The tour guide was great and very informative and gave plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Beware that the house is very cold. Wear long sleeves or layers. They are unable to change the temperature. Didn’t really get a clear cut answer why the house is so cold other than that it’s cold and they can’t change the temperature. I asked if it’s haunted but the tour guide swears it’s not. Hmmmmm….. Either way this is a great little day thing to do with your kids and family, friends, or even alone and gives you the opportunity to step back in time!

This was a unique experience! Our family had a lot of fun visiting Rock Bridge. I have older children, they seemed to get around on this trail very well. However, there are a few spots you should take caution ⚠️ too, especially with younger children under the age of ten. Overall, this was a great sight to see. We will be going back again.
Brittany P — Google review
For the most part this trail was easy but getting in/out the Rock House itself could be a challenge for some and there is an uphill portion at the end. We started from the second parking lot as we didn’t know it was different from the first lot. Great hike! Watch for pigeons/poop in the rock house.
Nicole R — Google review
Beautiful cave/natural tunnel. Very large so even if its busy there is plenty of room for everyone to be inside of the rockhouse. This is a one way trail and the uphill climb after you view the rockhouse to the exit may be strenuous for those not used to hiking. The natural bridge/arch was closed but still viewable and such a unique natural structure in the area.
Jennifer W — Google review
Wonderful trail to a covered cave. Really neat experience to be in the cave and imagine what has happened in the cave over the last couple of hundred years. Pigeons and pigeon poop inside of the cave so be extra careful where you place your hands. Parts of the trail were challenging to walk, so be extra careful. I would recommend a sturdy walking stick to help with your balance. The last quarter mile or so back to the parking lot is a steady uphill walk on a dirt path . You made need to take a couple of short breaks to catch your breath. Also take a small flashlight with you to help see inside and walk around while inside the cave. The camera flashlight was ok but it was not bright enough. The walk and time spent in the cave took about 1.5 to 2 hours which was well worth it to be able to see some of the amazing works of our Creator.
Timothy D — Google review
Totally awesome! The first park of the yellow hike is mostly downhill. Then after reaching the rock house cave, you head back uphill. The walk is not terribly long and the footing is mostly steady, but some parts are a little sandy. Coming uphill is a little strenuous but there's room to stop. The sights through out are beautiful!!
Kathryn F — Google review
A visit to Hocking Hills is incomplete without experiencing the breathtaking beauty of Rock House. This natural tunnel, carved into a Blackhand sandstone cliff, is an awe-inspiring spectacle. The cavernous opening, with its seven gothic-like archways, feels like entering a hidden world. Sunlight filters through the trees above, casting an ethereal glow on the moss-covered rocks and creating a magical, almost otherworldly atmosphere. The sheer scale and intricate details of the rock formations are a testament to the power of nature. Standing inside, you feel small and humbled by the ancient geology surrounding you. It's a truly amazing and beautiful stop, a must-see for anyone exploring the wonders of Hocking Hills.
Brandon — Google review
Love this hike! The rock house itself is really cool to walk through and explore. I took my 8, 6, and 4 year old and they loved it too. The last part of the trail is a steep incline up but my kids were able to do it, just had to go slow. Went on a Monday and pretty much had the trail to ourselves.
Courtney H — Google review
It was really cool, you could see for quite a ways, and get some great pics. Careful of all the pigeons, for some reason a whole lot of them came flying in at the same time at one point while we were looking around. Luckily no accidents! Lol!

Hopewell Culture National Historical Park Visitor Center - Mound City Group

Mentioned on

Park
Sights & Landmarks
When visiting Chillicothe, Ohio, the Hopewell Culture National Historical Park Visitor Center is an essential stop for anyone interested in the rich history of the region. This park showcases the Mound City Group, which consists of 23 impressive earthen mounds constructed by the Hopewell culture between 200 BC and 500 AD. These mounds served important ceremonial purposes and offer a fascinating insight into the complex social and spiritual lives of the Hopewell people.
Despite the heat, this is still one of our favourite places to visit in OH! Sun umbrellas were offered for our use as we walked the site. Clearly marked trails, mowed grass make for an easy walk. Plan on spending at least a couple of hours if you can!
Jess B — Google review
The Hopewell Culture and Visitor Center is a smaller center. It does have some souvenirs and you can get your passport stamps here. There is a slight walkthrough in the center to see all the different Earth mounds and a video to watch. They also have all of the different flags for the Indian Nations and a small description for each. You can then walk out of the back of the Visitor Center when done looking at the displays. You will immediately see the mounds as soon as you walk out. You're also able to walk around the entire area.
Daniel G — Google review
What an incredible historical site! A great little museum/history center of the Hopewell culture as well as local life through the years. The building is completely handicapped accessible, and it's mostly a flat grassy area for the rest of the place. Give yourself about an hour. Worth a visit!
Stephen F — Google review
Everyone should come enjoy this small national park! You won't spend an awful lot of time here, so it's even good for kids. The workers at the information desk are friendly and have lots of information and pamphlets to give you. There are many mounds here, and some of them have information signs explaining their significance. There's plenty of parking and clean restrooms here.
Thirteendays — Google review
This park is really impressive. The mounds are amazing. There is a small visitors center with video and a gift shop. There are trails outside with different information boards to read. I have very limited mobility and get around on an electric scooter. I could go as far as the sidewalk. They did have an off road wheel chair that you can borrow to go on the trails. That was really nice to see.
Cat L — Google review
This was my first visit to this National Historic Park area. Excellent presentation of indigenous (native) peoples ingenuity and sophisticated culture before the Europeans arrived. The Mound City group is just one of several sites in the newly designated World Cultural Heritage area. Make sure you see this and the other sites to truly experience the mounds and other earthworks of the Hopewell culture that flourished in the central and southern Ohio landscape.

Visited 7/11/23 The National Park Service manages several Hopewell mound sites in the Chillicothe area. The Hopewell Culture National Historical Park's visitor center is located at Mound City Group and is the only site that has a full facility with a museum, gift store, restrooms and helpful rangers. Despite this site's name "Mound City Group", this site was not a residential area but rather a burial and ceremonial ground. Anyone fascinated with ancient mounds and earthworks needs to visit this site. And if your travel plans include seeing all the earthworks in the Chillicothe area, see this one first to give you a better understanding of what you will be seeing at some of the other sites where the earthworks no longer exist but are only outlined by mowing the grass on the ground where they once stood. The museum and park rangers will also provide valuable information about the people who created and utilized these structures. We arrived around 3pm and were told that we could join a ranger led tour that started shortly after. Ranger Sue was so informative! I learned so much!

The Hocking Hills Golf Club also offers a challenging Par-71 course set amidst the beautiful Hocking Hills scenery, providing an affordable yet rewarding golfing experience.
We did the Original Canopy Tour and it was incredible! Skyler and Ella were amazing instructors and guides. The tour starts out with getting geared up and a practice run that is not far off the ground. They teach you everything you need to know for the course. The course was about 10 zip lines and 3 sky bridges so it was worth it for the time spent on this adventure. Ella and Skyler were also great entertainment while we were up there. They remembered everyones names, gave us fun facts and even had some funny jokes to entertain us. My son is 10 years old and he had an absolute blast! I personally am terrified of heights but felt so comfortable with Ella & Skyler that I almost forgot how high up we were. Maria was also great - she took us to and from the course and was an excellent driver. We would definitely do this adventure again. Well worth it!

Beautiful experience The tour was very well organized. Carl and Ella both were exceptional in explaining, supporting and encouraging all of us through the zipline tour. We enjoyed it thoroughly. The price may seem high but once you reach and go through the 2.5 hours awesome experience then you will totally forget about the money and take a boatload of great experience with you. Thanks Carl and Ella once again for making the tour awesome.

Unbeatable experience.. It’s one of the best Zipline tours I’ve been on. Canopy tours operations department really had styled in. I had a low bar set, but I was thoroughly impressed. It is truly World class. Speaking from an operational perspective, They nailed all the details, from harness us up to safety checks, to smooth, professional tour guides, they even watered the dusty roads down, so you don’t get caught and clogs of dust when being shuttled back-and-forth from line to line.. Thoroughly impressed special shout out to my guidance Riley and Ian.. they were fantastic. I will definitely take my family back sooner than later.

My wife and I came here to celebrate our second wedding anniversary and let me tell you… this place was the BEST. The views and experience were incredible, and the group we were paired up with were a delight. If I could give both of our guides 6 stars I would. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Justin and Xandra were incredible, hilarious, and made the experience an absolute blast, while communicating enough to make us feel safe the entire experience. Thank you to those two especially and I know we’ll be back in the future!

Me and the family had an absolute blast today. Our first time zip-lining, and we couldn’t have possibly had a better experience. Our guides - Justin and Alexa - were extraordinarily fun, helpful, patient and above all else, kept us safe (from ourselves). They made an excellent team, you could tell they enjoyed working with each other. We will definitely be back at some point. 🙌

Skylar and Riley were amazing tour guides! They made our zip-lining experience absolutely unforgettable. They’re super fun, have great personalities, and kept us laughing the entire time with their jokes. The only thing I wish is that they took a few more pictures while we were out on the tour, but overall, it was an incredible experience. You won’t be disappointed! Definitely purchase the X Tour! Loved all the people we met. Would definitely do it again:)

I had a great time. The staff was so wonderful and friendly except for one of the guys who helps bring you in once you land. He offered the woman who went down with me to help take a photo of her. Since he didn't offer me the same treatment. I took it apon myself to take my own photo. Then he looked over at me a raised his voice a bit at me and told me to move behind the red gate! I replied and said "I will after I take my photo in which you did NOT offer to assist me with. He didn't offer the other ladies a photo either. On a side note, I wish they offer videos or photos for the superman zipline tour customers. Overall I had a blast!

This is one of the best places that I have been. Is so peaceful and beautiful there. Me and my wife go regularly. And we took our kids there and they love it as well . We'll be going back there for a very long time. We even seen some deer there and wow amazing.

A.W. Marion State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Open parkland offering 5 miles of hiking trails, wildlife & a lake for boating & fishing.
We have visited this park a couple of times and have enjoyed our hikes on the Hargus Lake Perimeter Loop. The hiking trail and the mountain bike trails intersect at times, but are color marked if you pay attention to the marked trees and signs. If you miss a sign; however, you may extend your hike a bit longer than expected. The signs note that the hiking loop around the lake is 5 miles. Our fitness tracker and Apple watch clocked it a little over 4 miles instead. It had been rainy during the week before our hike (and it rained pretty hard for a while during our hike too), so there were some muddy spots. There are a couple of tiny water crossings over logs or rocks and there are a couple of steep hill/stair spots, but they weren't too slippery or more difficult with the weather. The park and trails are clean and well maintained with nice spaces for fishing, picnics and camping. The lake is peaceful and we are planning to return for fishing at another time.
Angela T — Google review
Beautiful park, maintained trails, so many picnic options and very nice playgrounds. I've been here trail walking and kayaking so far.
Becca F — Google review
The most amazing campground ever there are 2 fishing lakes, swimming beach or pool, a camp store shop, safety security gates, cabins, tents , RVs, MHS, come one come all, the sites are huge they don't pile you on top of each other, it's newly renovated, ping pong, pool, beautiful, spacious, clean I have severe PTSD & I have never felt so relaxed it's so quiet, homey, welcoming, laundry facilities, game rooms the staff is 2nd to none especially Oliver he knows something about everything and he has such a gentle soul he will welcome you with open arms and he's all about the natural life you can find campgrounds at a dime a dozen but to find one that crosses over to home where you know you and your kids are safe is priceless they even do background checks as an extra layer of protection and there is more to come because they are still upgrading all I know is I found my paradise here and you can stay year round so I found the home that I've been looking for no more night terrors, peace of mind help if I need it an wonderfully neighbors grab a spot while you can there aren't many and this is a hidden gem that I would stop looking elsewhere because they set the bar real high and trust me we shopped bands down best of the best I can't wait till it gets warm so I can fish then swim or fish an swim together the rental cabins are incredible too there are tons of trails to explore and it's definitely pet friendly we're at lot 102 and we hope to see you here we're always up for dinner, new friends, new memories and lots of fun I swear this is a piece of God's country
Gilberto M — Google review
Walked over dam to other side let my dog swim in lake on 25ft lead. He loves it. My other guy likes to wade in the water. Nice area for picnics tables provided, fishing dock, walking trail, shaded areas. Benches to sit on bathroom next to parking lot. Nice place!
Darlene B — Google review
Was a nice park with a nice trail. I took a walk down to see the bottom side of the dam and there were a bunch of blue gills and big a$$ frogs. The only thing that disappointed me was all the trash I picked up people left all over. And also the fact that a rail that's preventing someone from falling is just siliconed together. I guess they wanted to go the cheap route and not pay to have it welded together so it's even more secure.

Teresa Nathan & James do a Great with the Campground. Great Maps, Service, Movie's at night and ... Camping Consultation...!
Joseph C — Google review
Nice hiking trail around the lake. Can get washed out in spots along with mud and slippery footing if it has rained within a few days. Lots of picnic sites around the shoreline. Has bathrooms, but no running water.
Bill C — Google review
Great place. Lots of different wildlife. Trails are nice. Campground is under construction so a bit inconvenient since it wasn't disclosed prior to booking. Dog friendly.

Amazing experience at Rockside today! We had the cauliflower pizza and the large pretzel. They both were so amazing !! We also had the pineapple upside down slushy & the “Oh sure “ IPA and they were absolutely delicious!

Had a very nice time, perfect day to sit outside as they have tons of seating outside and in, if you prefer. Wine was good, had a flight so was able to sample a few , before making a choice to buy a bottle which is definitely nice. Service was good very knowledgeable and nice. Definitely recommend a stop and sip if you’re in the area.

This place is THE BEST!!! We got to celebrate my best friends bachelorette party here and we were so well taken care of. The wine was amazing, the food was amazing, the staff was amazing. Ryan and Taylor took such good care of us and gave us great recommendations!! 11/10 would recommend!

This was my first time at a Winery for a work outing and it was fun. I’m sure the prices are always high but to me that was a negative. High prices and small , however the pizza was very good . I loved the crispy crust. The slushy wine was good and I normally don’t drink. So that was a fun surprise. It was a good time.

We were looking for a good place for wine tasting and luckily they were open on Tuesday. Most others were not open till later in the week. We were welcomed when we entered. The building is clean and comfortable and new looking. The staff is helpful to pick wines. We each got a 4 flight of wine to taste. We shared a nice meat and cheese board. The food was fresh and delicious. The wines we chose we more on the sweet side and were also very good. I highly recommend trying this vineyard. Prices are fair. The environment is comfortable. The restrooms are clean. I will come back.

I truly cannot say enough good things about this place. First things first- the entire staff is welcoming, kind and knowledgeable which makes the experience all the better. Everything is very clean, organized and simple. Their wine slushies are SO good. They occasionally have food trucks out on the weekends so it’s a great time to grab something different to eat and have a glass of wine (or wine slushy) and relax on the patio! It’s not overly crowded- there’s plenty of space and the views are amazing!

Slate Run Living Historical Farm

Farm
Sights & Landmarks
Met Officer Mark today; thank you for counting to enjoy what you do! My love for the State of Ohio goes pretty deep, rooted here if you will. Slate Run is worth every trip.
C M — Google review
I've been to Slate run many times, with and without my family. It has been an enjoyable experience until this visit. Our family decided to go to get our holiday photos for a card. The kids sat on fences and in front of barns. The big work horses were brought out and the site volunteer mocked is for being on the hog fence, as we were going to get manure on us. There wasn't any manure near and no signs to let us know to avoid this particular fence. It was done for a laugh from the small audience watching the horses. The volunteer ruined the morning for my kids who were very embarrassed and wanted to immediately leave. Shame on you and your assinine behavior to children.
Regina P — Google review
Such a cute family experience! The male farmer was very kind and asked us if we had any questions and told us a little about his job. We couldn’t access the pig area due to it being overrun with a hornets nest but we peaked inside. They display a lot of neat old farm equipment. Everything has signage if necessary and it’s very well maintained.
Taylor H — Google review
I think the first time I visited the working historical farm was in 1989. It is a true gem and Ohio treasure! It's a self guided tour while volunteers work the many aspects of the farm! All buildings (there are a LOT) are marked and you can follow the map. There is an alphabetized map for kids (as and adults) and so much to see and learn. No two days are the same! Plenty of parking and new restrooms! The work horses were being used today! So very much to see and it's very much like stepping back in time! In addition, I cannot say enough good things about the farm manager Ann, and her entire staff!! They work very hard physically and they are a wealth of information of how farms operated over a century ago. Kudos to all and thank you for allowing future generations to get a priceless look back in time!!
Barb F — Google review
What a wonderful place this is! My daughter and I truly enjoyed the opportunity to step back into history and learn about the 1880s farm life. It brought me a lot of nostalgia when I remembered my Grandmother and Grandfather's farm from when I was a little girl. It was a lot like this farm. They have many hands on interactive learning areas that my daughter loved especially. Definitely worth the trip! We will be going back in the spring to see the planting season.
Kara B — Google review
Truly a peaceful and wonderful experience that really reminds you to slow down and experience everything. Such a beautiful place.
Daniel V — Google review
This is a very “real” working farm, filled with tons of opportunities to learn and explore, from the orchard to the smoke house and root cellar, to the barn and main house filled with period pieces. This is a great place for kids to get hands on experience with some farm animals. One note: the park employees in this area are in historical dress, but are not historical actors/interpreters. That said - they were very friendly and filled with great info!

Recreation area with on-site accommodations, meadows, woodlands & a lake fringed by a beach.
Stayed here for the first time in our new RV in years. Clean facilities!Friendly and helpful camper hosts. Great spots! Peaceful and just what we needed. We already have 2 more 2 week long reservations and will be making 1 more before we head to our winter destination.

What's not to love about the peaceful, wonderful, outdoors? Been coming to Deer Creek State Park since I was a little one. Always try to go through the week, not so busy. Lots of full hookup sites if you have RV or camper. Still so quiet. Wish I could be a full-time camper.
Rich B — Google review
Nice campground with mostly wooded sites that give you more privacy. Road through the campsites is a little tight for backing in a bigger rig, but can be done. The woods around the campground have numerous mature oaks that give great shade on hotter days!
Steve W — Google review
Been going to deer creek for over 20 years now. I love that place, its my 2nd home. Plenty of good fishing, wildlife, and things to see and do! The campground is always clean! If your into disc golf, there's a nice course there! Recently the lodge entrance got a makeover and the pool has been updated, along with some other updates there also! Deer creek is a wonderful place to bring family, friends, or meet new people also! One of the best state parks in Ohio in my opinion!!!!!
Slade M — Google review
Deer Creek is lovely. The space is all so beautiful. We stayed in a dog-friendly cabin and had a nice time, even though it rained a lot. I think the lodge staff should share with guests that the cabin door can be difficult to open. Don't give up, it will open!
H B — Google review
The fire rings are nice , but being up so high, 1. We had to build the wood up to get the full effects of fire. 2. When there was a small or big amount of wind ,the ash from wood burning would blow from underneath, so we had to watch it closely due to the trees around the camp site. I'm just saying we didn't understand why up so high as the pictures show.
Cheryl L — Google review
Good trails, great lake. There are a lot of other amenities. Marina is nice and there is a golf course.

It was amazing. My first time at a real American drag race. I was able to feel these incredible emotions from the roar of the engines.

First off this is a really nice raceway. They could use some additional seating under the bleachers, it is so hot on the asphalt and unbearable on the aluminum benches during the day. I didn't see any handicapped parking. They did have a VIP lot that was closer to the entrance, but this would limit some that we might bring. Overall I'm glad we came.
Kelli K — Google review
Went here again for Mopar Nationals. Always a great time at a great venue. Plenty of drag racing to watch as well as walking many acres looking at so many classic cars. The last several years I've gone with my son and perhaps this will become a tradition with us.

Loves the Street outlaws event. Hated the handicap accessibility. No handicap bathrooms, the parking for handicap was 3 parking areas away from where the event ticket area was. No handicap ramps visible for any of the bleachers. The wheelchair bound are important too

I came here with my dad and a few others for the Street Outlaws event. We purchased VIP Super Fan tickets, but I honestly didn't see the advantage in doing so. We didn't get to park any closer and there were still ridiculously lines and no discounts on food or anything. The only perk to the ticket was that we were able to stand at the starting line; however, it's difficult to see much unless you get a good spot. Other than that, scarce bathrooms and overpriced food and drinks. The porta potties weren't ideal since it was around 90° so they were even hotter inside. Ideally, this place would have better sectioned off areas closer to the entrance for VIP ticket holders and express check-in. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We enjoyed a Friday and Saturday at the track watching no prep kings. Everything was clean, bathrooms were never out of supplies and the food trucks there were great too!

Hard to rate casinos - people are happy when they win and disappointed when they don't. I personally liked the selection of slots. Mix of old school slots (which I prefer) and new ones. Beware if Ohio State is playing that day because it's loud and rowdy (I'm a Hoosier fan). I definitely will be back.

I came in last night. The bar was crazy busy and the lines were crazy Long but there was this Cocktail Server who was on her stuff I believe her name was SelenaI’m talking she was fast communicative, funny, sweet and she smelled fabulous I actually asked her what perfume she wore to get it for myself. you guys need more people like her. She took my order in a timely manner got it back to me within five minutes compared to when I would’ve waited in that line for almost 10. There was not enough bartenders at the bar, but thanks to sElena. I had a great night at your guises casino and I will come again just to see have A lovely conversation with her, even if you guys take all my money again had a blast!

Really enjoyed my visit. I was a winner on the penny slots. I played in the open air area for smokers. There is a separate bar in there, however there was no bartender or sign informing anyone that they would have to go to another bar for a drink...🙄

I personally don’t think it’s a great casino. I’ve honestly never even broke even there. Granted my limit is $100. Never get comps and they have very little gluten free options. Since I have Celiac, I’ve never had their brewed beer. It seems clean and I enjoy that it’s smoke free. If you don’t figure out a way to reduce the price of the connected hotel, it’s barely affordable. I prefer the Indiana casinos because they give better comps, such as free lodging.

Between these places in Ohio, governor dewine, Ohio gaming commission, and the Cleveland browns it’s no wonder people don’t win as often. Prime example last weekend won and after I won had to get a new card 3 different times. I have several witnesses to this occasion including the woman working the cashier location!!! Also if you have a host here don’t expect much from them at all. Was told 3 different times that I would receive an email and have yet to get one. Even checked my spam acct as well. If you wish to lose more than you make in one day play in Ohio. If you wish to win more go to Nevada or Canada or another country. To update this post further seems like the only time you can actually win anything is late at night after all the events and bs are over with. Also never received an email letting me know about the tournament that took place. The marketing rep for this place is definitely not doing their job properly at all. If I was the manager I would be making sure all the players that come here are happy and winning something!!! Does common sense lack at this place??? Yes sure does!!!

AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum

Specialty Museums
Motorcycle Museum is a fantastic place to learn about the history of motorcycling, and the heroes that have helped make it one of the most popular sports in the world. The exhibits are well-made and informative, and even if you know nothing about motorcycles you can appreciate the significance of this sport's evolution. This is an excellent museum for anyone visiting the area.
This is a hidden gem. This is the national organization AMA's motorcycle museum hidden in the quiet suburbs of Pickerington, OH. The museum is much larger than you would guess when first entering. Hundreds of bikes and some incredible classics. Great educational snippets along all the walls throughout. The hall features recognition for a number of very well known names. Staff member was very friendly upon entry. It's self guided, so visit at your own pace. Also includes a neat little gift store. My kids are 10 and 6 and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Located off the road in a nice secluded bit of nature, tickets aren't too expensive for what you get. This museum is clearly meant for people who are already motorcycle & racing enthusiasts or AMA members. For them, this is a 5-star museum. For the general history goer like myself, it's less engaging. A lot of the exhibits go into the specs of the bikes & who rode them. You do get a few anecdotal stories about moments in a rider's life that are interesting to read about, but most of the exhibits are written with the expectations of the visitor already having some motorcycle knowledge. The collection of bikes they've amassed is still impressive to look at.

A great museum for motorcycle enthusiasts, especially if you have children. The staff is amazing. One of the area's best kept secrets.

This was my second trip to the museum and loved it as much as i did the first time. This time i took one of my sons and my best friend. we had a blast what a cool place to visit. Got to see my mentors plaque on the wall for all he had done for the motorcycling world may he rest in piece. if you have never been you should go at least once in your life. there is a lot of information about so many bikes and riders.

Nature & Parks
Schiller Park, located in the charming German Village neighborhood just south of downtown Columbus, is a historic green space with a rich cultural heritage. Originally established in the mid-1800s and later renamed after the renowned German poet Friedrich Schiller, the park offers various attractions such as a fishing pond, playground, tennis courts, and a stage for outdoor shows. The area also features traces of German-American culture, including spots like Schmidts sausage haus and a bronze statue of Friedrich Schiller.
One of my favorite parks in the city. It’s great for people watching and enjoying the many dogs our residents have. I always make a new friend when I’m here. The squirrels let people get awfully close too! Mind the north center of the park when it’s heavily rained as it will flood!

I liked Schiller park a lot! There’s so much greenery and the pond with artwork installed around is so beautiful! There are so many geese near the pond. The park wasn’t very crowded when I visited. They have lots of seating area in the park. There were a few monuments in the park too. The theater in the park really stood out to me! I wish I could have seen the Shakespeare play at the theatre. In terms of artwork, the umbrella girl statue was so beautiful!

Perfect Urban Park for Daily Walking & Community Activities This park has become an essential part of our daily routine - I take Kygo here every morning for our 2+ mile walk (to the park, around, and back), and it never disappoints. What Makes Schiller Park Special: Excellent Maintenance: - Always clean and well-kept - Beautiful mature trees providing great shade and scenery - Well-maintained walking paths perfect for daily exercise Friendly Community Atmosphere: - Dog walkers, joggers, and families are consistently friendly and respectful - Great sense of community among regular park users - Safe, welcoming environment for daily activities Outstanding Recreational Facilities: - Sports courts: Pickleball, tennis, and basketball courts in good condition - Historic Recreation Center: Well maintained community facility - Beautiful landscaping: Tall, mature trees create a park-like oasis in the city Active Community Programming: - Friends of Schiller Park (nonprofit) does excellent work maintaining community engagement - Farmers markets throughout the year - Community garage sales and other seasonal events - Historic German Village Association involvement adds cultural richness Safety & Accessibility: - Generally very safe for morning walks and exercise - Occasional unhoused individuals seeking shelter, but they're respectful and typically move on during daylight hours - Well-lit and visible from surrounding streets Bottom Line: Schiller Park is exactly what an urban neighborhood park should be clean, safe, active, and community focused. The combination of excellent facilities, beautiful natural features, and strong community programming makes it a true asset to German Village. Perfect for: Daily dog walking, morning exercise, family recreation, community events, pickleball/tennis enthusiasts Would I recommend? Absolutely! This is a model for how urban parks should be maintained and programmed.

Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park, located in Galloway, Ohio, covers over 7,000 acres of diverse landscapes including wetlands, forests, and prairies. The park offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, canoeing and kayaking. Visitors can also witness the reintroduced American Bison roaming freely in enclosed pastures.
Me and a friend hiked here and it is just beautiful. We spent a decent amount of time by the creek looking and catching the crawfish, and found a really pretty green one, bigger than the rest. Lovely place to spend some time, with lots of scenery. Would love to come back ❤

This park is absolutely beautiful! It’s a great park to explore with your family. My kids loved the playground and nature center. I enjoyed viewing the Bison at the pasture. This park is the best park to see wildlife animals. I’ll definitely have to come back to view more of this huge park.

The spring weather is worth the trip to behold the plethora of wild flowers! Spring trillium is now opening (April 23) ! I photographed at least a dozen others. Go in the first entrance to the very end. Park near the playground and start walking the trails.... slowly. A quick walk will miss the subtle shades of flowers just off the trail. Take shoes that can handle mud.

Nice place to explore. There are trails to walk to see bison. The nature center has a large dish tank, which is really neat. We went there on a homeschool field trip, and all the kids enjoyed it, ages 8-18.
