State park
Nature & Parks
MacKerricher State Park is a popular destination known for its rocky coastline, sandy beaches, and diverse wildlife. Visitors can explore the woods and enjoy camping facilities while observing the bird-filled wetlands. The park's Laguna Point features observation decks for seal-watching and tide pools for exploration. Nearby attractions like Glass Beach and Pudding Creek Beach offer additional recreational opportunities. The park also boasts hiking trails, walking paths, and the picturesque Black Sand Beach.
Beautiful, clean park and beach. It has the black, coarse sand but pleasant to be on. Walked the wood plank trails. You can take them down to different areas of beach, rocks or tide pool. It has public restrooms which were clean also. Near the restroom were grassy areas with picnic tables.

This is a great park to visit. Day use is free of charge. There are also plenty of campsites. They have built a wonderful boardwalk that you can walk that takes you out to the tide pools and the headlands. There is also a beautiful beach and picnic tables available and clean bathrooms. A wonderful place to spend a few hours or all day.
Kat M — Google review
Camp sites amazing. Bathrooms nice, sites large and shielded from the wind. Water is minerally so plan accordingly if you don’t like that. Beach and lake super nice! Small pebble beach, seals, birds. Close to town too so if you forget anything you are only a few minutes away.
Alex B — Google review
MacKerricher State Park is absolutely amazing. The views are straight out of a California postcard — waves crashing, cliffs, and that clean ocean air. Super easy to walk, and the paths are nice and smooth, even wheelchair friendly. It’s free for day use, which is wild considering how nice it is. If you’re in Fort Bragg or cruising up Highway 1, definitely stop here and stretch your legs. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and honestly one of the best state parks I’ve ever been to.
Joshua G — Google review
October 2025. I stayed for one night at a campground in this state park. The staff at the checkin booth were awesome! What I didnt know is that many of the sites were in cold wet and dank spots. Not really for me. But the folks in the booth helped me get into a sunny site. Its pretty noisy here during the day but it quieted down at night. The bathrooms were nasty. Including the showers. Not sure if the host was supposed to, but noone has cleaned them. The water taste awful. Like toxic salt taste. Eeewwww! The beach is VERY close by. Could be walked to. And thats probably your best bet. I drove there and scumbags get into my car. No cameras there. Or security watching out for we honest folks. I walked the boardwalk and stairs to the ocean and slimy people took advantage. Too bad really. The ocean area itself is gorgeous. And theres seals all around. But its definately NOT a safe place!
Me M — Google review
This place is wonderful! Dog and kid friendly, super clean bathrooms, 10 minute walk to the beach from campsites and everything is perfect! We will definitely be coming back, as this was our first time bringing our fur kids with us camping and this was the perfect place for all of us
Elizabeth Z — Google review
Beautiful, peaceful, perfect for camping or a day trip. Best park for tide pools. Junior Ranger program for kids. Water hook-up only for camping. Pay dump station. Close to lots of parks and trails.
Fork R — Google review
I really enjoy this state park and was excited to return again after 5 years. Normally, day-use visitors can go through the right lane quickly while campers check in on the left. On my most recent visit, the right lane was blocked (by a less -than -thoughtful ranger) which meant everyone had to wait in the camper line. It was taking so long I eventually left feeling disappointed. I still love this park, but I hope when I return in the future 5 years from now there will be a clearer process for day-use visitors to enter more smoothly.

Glass Beach

Mentioned on
+81 other lists
Beach
Outdoor Activities
Glass Beach in Fort Bragg is a must-visit destination along the Coastal Trail. The beach is famous for its colorful, broken glass pieces that have washed up on the shore over the years. This unique feature is a result of tons of discarded glass from households in Fort Bragg being dumped on the beaches between 1906 and the 1960s.
This is a fun and unique beach to stop at and explore when driving highway 1. The sea glass bits are tiny and mixed with rocks. Get low and look closely- there’s plenty to be enjoyed. People may be disappointed if they show up expecting the beach to be filled with an abundance of larger pieces. We enjoyed our visit and highly recommend checking it out for yourself! Pro tip- take photos and not sea glass (leave so others can enjoy as well) and visit at sunset!
Kakaʻako L — Google review
Nice beach. Parking just near the beach. You can walk down one of several sand and dirt trails to get to any of the beaches. There and many rocks out in the surf making for a moody and crashing beach at any season. Beautiful views and some local wildlife when we visited complete this beach.
James M — Google review
Unfortunately we didn't think about the tides so when we arrived here it was high tide we didn't see much glass but the view was still beautiful. It was cold and raining but im sure on a good day this place is wonderful
Jolene V — Google review
Beautiful views of the water and the cliffs and a lovely trail to get some steps in. If you want to go down to the glass beach, plan to get dirty. There is a steep, tiny dirt trail to get down there. Everyone there when we were opted not to try to go down it.
Sherri M — Google review
Absolutely beautiful here, even if it was storming and raining First time here and it was such a cool experience, so much glass in one place I will definitely come back
Stephanie B — Google review
I loved the beach itself but there are HUGE problems here. There are hirdes if shameless people bagging up the glass that makes this glass beach. And dog shit all over the place. And the parking lot is very shady. You could see a couple of people walking around casing stuff. No patrols or anyone watching out for legitimate guests. Too bad really. Its a gorgeous ocean beach area!
Me M — Google review
It’s interesting and beautiful beach. Very clean, water’s so clear!!!! There are many big high rocks around so you can climb to search for any rare glass piece left or alive crabs, snails, claims… If you are coming here because of all good pictures with nice glass pebbles have been shown online for century then i’m so sorry. You not gonna find it. There still some colored stone left. It’s good for walking around couple hours. Great for walking on rocks, around the sand to look for glass. I think’s it depends on the tide. At some point of time in the day when tide goes low you can find more interesting things underneath the sand. Long short story for glass beach. It transformed perfectly from the dumpster into a stunning beautiful tourist- attraction.! Recommend a stop by if you are around this area
Scarlett N — Google review
If you have nothing else to do come here and watch the people collect glass from the beach. The tidal pool are nice but nothing special than snails to see. If you have other options go there instead

Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, situated 2 miles from Fort Bragg and 7 miles from Mendocino, is a stunning clifftop garden known for its breathtaking ocean views, picnic spots, and trails. The garden boasts an impressive collection of over 100 rhododendron species and other rare plant life. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk to a coastal bluff surrounded by native flora and wild mushrooms.
Very large and beautiful botanical garden. Lots of heather and amazing dahlias. I wish I had been able to spend longer here. Enjoyed how the flowers were categorized and the strawberry lemonade from the cafe. The gift shop is also nice too. Lots of flowers almost as big as your head
Kate — Google review
It is just amazing! So many sections of different flora & fauna. RIGHT on the cliff you can walk to. Beautiful walks & gates, trees, places to sit & just take it all in. PET friendly, truly and good food, we really enjoyed ourselves. Bought some nice plants too! Thank you so much.
Claudia M — Google review
If you are in Fort Bragg, please come visit this lovely garden. Cloudy or sunny, you’ll enjoy being here. During September, the dahlias were blooming, my favorite flower. There were hundreds of plants and flowers to admire. You can even go as far as the coast and see the ocean. Wonderful place to bring your dog for a walk. The gift shop had much to offer. There was also a plant sale in September. There is a small restaurant if you get hungry after working up an appetite. There is a LOT of walking and it is not paved, so be mindful if you have health issues. Overall I had a wonderful time and I pray you do too. Enjoy 💕
Tayna L — Google review
Absolutely stunning coastal views and a huge range of flora to visit! Probably even better in the summer with more things in bloom.
Amanda Z — Google review
If you are a nature lover, this is a perfect place to relax & recharge. We enjoyed this coastal setting botanical garden. They have a huge variety of the most beautiful flowers! Trails that lead you to spectacular ocean views. Don't forget to stop at the Cafe for a snack & picnic along the way.
Lj — Google review
While visiting the area, we were instantly drawn to the Botanical Gardens. We love bird watching, and gardens and birds have a natural synergy. Right on the road as you enter Fort Bragg, the parking lot will be deceiving. Despite the small parking lot, this is a rather large garden. Don’t worry; there is ample parking, even for our oversized Suburban. You will enter through the gift shop and pay admission. There are discounts both for young children and seniors. The garden is well-mapped, and there is plenty of signage at every turn. The paths combine packed earth and gravel, so you won’t need special shoes to navigate. The first thing to notice is the scale of the trees. Many of the trees tower over the garden and create perfect shady areas for different types of plants. They are also a lovely relief for anyone who arrives on a sunny September morning. Yes, Northern California is often quite sunny in September. The plants, flowers, shrubs, and bushes on the grounds are absolutely beautiful. We found the Dalia garden particularly stunning. This may be where events are held as it has an ideal shape for a small—to medium-sized garden wedding venue. There is also a full vegetable garden that, when harvested, feeds a local school. As you wander the garden, you will encounter various plants, including agave and other succulents, some larger than full-grown adults. Whether you typically visit botanical gardens or not, this is a worthwhile place to visit. And yes, we did see several local birds while visiting, including a Scrub Jay, red-tailed hawk, a few American Goldfinch, hummingbirds, and even a Fox Sparrow.
Scott L — Google review
Beautifully landscaped gardens. The size is deceiving when you get to the parking lot..it is much bigger than we originally thought. Most of the plants in the flower beds are identified. Great mix of plants/ shrubs along with a separate California native plant garden. There is a big greenhouse which you can access. The forested area at the back of the gardens has trails throughout, which are well marked along the way. At the top of the woods, there is an 'earth sculpture', which is a labyrinth of a continuous line of grass. It is stunning seen from the small hill next to it. It was mostly brown when we saw it but would be beautifully green in the spring.
Linda V — Google review
I've visited here many times and I've never been disappointed. But today was the best ever! How bright the autumn color pallete was expressed in every area. Even the Dahlias were still preforming.

Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Museum

Museum
Nature & Parks
This state park features a lighthouse & restored lightkeeper homes, plus a marine science exhibit.
Point Carrillo was a beautiful site. There was a group of children in the classroom /gift shop. I enjoyed how the instructor interacted with them. Everyone was welcoming & helpful. Lodging onsite looked lovely!
Kimberlee M — Google review
Such a cool working lighthouse! It’s a little walk to get to the lighthouse and museum (unless you are staying there overnight or have a placard), but it’s well worth the walk. It’s scenic and the little museums both inside the lighthouse and the keepers quarters were fun to explore. The docents knew their stuff too! I would suggest going on a weekend when you can go up to the lens because it’s spectacular and really fun to learn how they used to have to keep the light going!
Alison E — Google review
A breezy, briny postcard that actually exists. This little lighthouse on the Mendocino coast feels like stepping into a coastal postcard—history, sea spray, and a view that makes you forget the daily grind. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot seals or even migrating whales. The site packs a tiny museum and preserved keeper cottages. It’s neat to imagine the old lamp room and lighthouse life Rating: 4.5/5 — Excellent for a short, scenic detour with a hint of history and a lot of wow-factor. Would return for the fog, the view, and that lingering sea spray scent.
Brice D — Google review
The mile walk is fun, the lighthouse & its view is 5-star. The trail around this is gorgeous and plenty of parking space available, and clean restrooms available.
Hester P — Google review
Nice walk to the lighthouse. The keeper's house musuem/exhibit offered an intimate glimpse into the daily life of a past lighthouse keeper.
Kevin K — Google review
It was neat seeing it. They rent some overnight accommodations. You cannot drive & park at lighthouse.
Sean H — Google review
Beautiful spot with rich history! The houses on site that you can stay look great!
StarCare I — Google review
It's about less than a mile walk from parking lot to light house. Situated at the edge of cliffs offering spectacular views of the ocean. Most scenic light house, good architecture and we'll maintained. There are 2 pathways one is on road one is muddy stretch and almost same distance.

Mendocino Headlands State Park offers miles of trails along the cliff, secluded beaches, and stunning views in a 7,400-acre wildlife corridor. The park is surrounded by bluff trails and windswept views on three sides, providing a buffer between the quaint town and the dramatic ocean waves.
One of my favorite stops on our trip. Stunning view with a land bridge you can walk across. Beautiful flowers blooming, Cute town too!
Andrea G — Google review
Absolutely stunning vistas right outside of town. There's no gate, park closes at sundown, not at 5. No benches so bring your own chairs. I think these are puffins of some sort, penguins don't travel this far north
Muhammad G — Google review
Mendocino Headlands State Park is absolutely stunning! The park offers dramatic coastal bluffs, sweeping ocean views, and plenty of scenic walking trails right along the edge of the cliffs. It’s an easy spot to access from the town of Mendocino, making it perfect for a quick stroll, a picnic, or just sitting and soaking in the views. We loved exploring the trails at sunset—watching the waves crash against the rocks was unforgettable. Parking is convenient, and the park feels peaceful and uncrowded compared to other coastal spots. If you’re visiting Mendocino, this park is a must-see for its breathtaking scenery and relaxing atmosphere.
Thuy T — Google review
A wonderful place to visit for a breathtaking view. A great place to gather your thoughts and be happy to be alive. A great place to view the West coast
Daryl F — Google review
An absolutely beautiful place. As you walk along the paths you see magnificent rock formations, waves and birds. For the adventurous, trails take you a bit closer to the beauty. Lots of places to sit and relax. Very pet friendly. This is a must stop and see spot.
Jeanette S — Google review
Has several trails to choose. Pick 1, or 2 or an afternoon exploring. Easy to moderate trails.
Andres B — Google review
Amazing spot to visit with great views and ample picture opportunities.
Adam S — Google review
One my favorite cities in the world, Mendocino and one of my favorite state parks! Filled with tons of hiking trails that can take you into the forest or down to the shores. No matter which way you decide to go, you will find beauty and breathtaking views all around. View Big river to the south and look for the light and the horn of the lighthouse as you hike the headlands trail all the way north. The best guide for the trails is The Hiker's Hip Pocket Guide to the Mendocino coast! And if you do go to the park make sure to go down to Portuguese beach. I call it the stairway to heaven, and once you go, you'll see why.

Great place to stop by while we headed north to Humboldt County. The museum is huge and has various artifacts. Free admission and donations are accepted.

We love the museum! It is lovely to see their new showings a we always appreciate when the Roots of Motive Power has train rides available, like today.
Kate B — Google review
Free with donations suggested. Tons of local artifacts from the very large to the very small and hundreds of photos covering early life, industry, native and settler heritage. Many hand made artifacts from local donors. Across the street from the skunk train and the both very proud and friendly chamber of commerce whose volunteers work hard to promote their city. Great home made pies next door.

Great wine (especially their 2018 Zinfandel), friendly staff, gorgeous views of the valley, and level 2 charging for your EV while you sip! Bonus: This was the first place I got to try Pinot Grapes! (prior to pressing, squeezing, etc.)
James I — Google review
What a fantastic spot! The wine was pretty good, but honestly, it was the views and overall experience that blew me away! The staff are quite friendly and knowledgeable about the wines that they sell. Highly recommend! FYI: they do not sell food/snacks, so come prepared!
Jenny — Google review
The vineyard and tasting room were beautiful!! We had a great selection and our host was so helpful with shipping our bottles back home to North Carolina. Delicious wines, we can't wait to continue enjoying them back home!
Oriana S — Google review
We really enjoyed our stop at the Handley Cellars. The tasting was free and with a very knowledgeable and courteous staff. They made us feel right at home while we sampled their variety of selections. We purchased several bottles and came back when our vacation was ending to get some more! Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy wine!
Joseph G — Google review
I’m giving this 4 stars because I know they can be a 5 if the service was better. The first time my husband and I went, the tasting room manager was attentive and full of stories about the vineyard and wine. He offered ones off the tasting menu and really made us feel like a part of the story. Since then (2019), the service has been mediocre at best which is really unfortunate because the wine is spectacular. To us, the relational component makes a difference in what we buy.
Emily T — Google review
My husband and I had a wonderful time at Handley Cellars. Gail in the tasting room was a lot of fun and poured some terrific wines. The Syrah is definitely my favorite, my husband liked the Primitivo. We will definitely be back.

Manchester State Park

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Manchester State Park, located in California, offers a lengthy beach with nearby hiking trails and campgrounds. The beach stretches for five miles from the mouth of the Garcia River to the mouth of Alder Creek, making it perfect for long walks. It is known for its abundant driftwood scattered at the foot of sand dunes. The park used to be a favorite camping spot due to its serene atmosphere under cypress groves by the lagoon, but camping has been discontinued due to visitor abuse.
Choosing the correct trail was needed because long stretches of the beach had a steep drop. So we veered to the north trail from the parking lot past the KOA. This in early May 2023. But the wildflowers in this area were amazing, plentiful. Never saw this on my many previous visits.
Dave W — Google review
We couldn’t stay to enjoy it because all signs toward the beach said no dogs due to snowy plovel (birds) so we had to find another beach . No hard feelings as wildlife takes priority! Just an FYI to dog owners
Danielle D — Google review
Very nice beach! Many miles long, starting just north of the Point Arena Lighthouse. Great dunes between beach and highway, two good parking options, look for beach access signs before and after the town of Manchester. Southern parking lot has a lenghty path through the dunes to the beach, probably 3/4 of a mile. If you plan to carry more than a backpack be prepared to haul it through a nice scenery but on fine sand! The beach itself has great sand too but it is regularly rather cold and windy, for sunbathing not the best place. But nice walks, plenty of birds to see, tons of drift wood, sometimes you can spot deers in the southern part of the dunes. Usually very few people
Stefan W — Google review
Very pleasant beach if you want to get some ocean on you and do as we did, take a nap with the background of soothing surf! We visited on a weekday afternoon in August and saw maybe 2 or 3 other people. Nice gentle walk getting there.
HorseDesigns . — Google review
Mysterious mood (when we visited) and miles and miles of beach to walk and enjoy the force of the Pacific Ocean. Lots of parking available, beautiful vegetation - possibly one of my favourite places in the world
Maximilian R — Google review
Just a beautiful part of California. Very few people out here and the beach is huge. You can walk down the meach a couple of miles to the lighthouse, which is interesting. We saw whales while we were there from the beach.
Michael D — Google review
A great beach for the family very big and the plants are nice. Also the flowers are beautiful when in blossom. There are several campsites around the area including a KOA.
Matt F — Google review
Tranquil but somewhat nondescript. You’ll like it if you want “untouched” beaches. A bit of a bland beach that goes on for a long stretch but it’s clean. some parts were not properly maintained such that it was difficult to cross to.

Beautiful setting, majestic views. Worth the effort. We drove up from Bodage Bay. The trip up and back was a little scary in some places because of the switchbacks and hairpin turns. Please be careful and let your passengers enjoy the view. I don't think we will ever forget that trip. Just exhilarating and amazing, still buzzing about the views and I bet I make a poster out of one of the pics we took at Point Arena lighthouse. Just a beautiful place.

This is the point Arena lighthouse. There were about 5 cottages, but we did stay there. Ours was a day trip. Love watching the birds, especially the pelicans who were nesting in the large formations around the lighthouse. Love their little museum and gift shop.

Such a cozy and thoughtful place! The hosts prepared firewood and kindling for the fireplace, and the house had everything we could possibly need. The views are absolutely breathtaking — endless space, the sound of the ocean waves, and that fresh sea breeze. You can just sit for hours watching the sunset and listening to the surf. Dropped in Sunday morning to get another stamp in the lighthouse passport. Point Arena has a fun history, and the tower climb was well worth the extra 5$! The fresnel lens no longer sits in the lantern room, and since the new beacon is mounted outside, they've turned their lantern room into this intimate space from where you can look out and see for miles and miles. The stairs to the top of the tower were relatively easy going, but the steep stairs to the lantern room were definitely a little tight. The view from the balcony that sits below the lantern room is well worth walking out on after the climb. 10/10!
Christopher D — Google review
We visited but didn't spend the night. I noticed some semi-aged bungalows on site, so maybe that's an option; not sure. There is a full Fresnel lens on display in the museum, like 6 feet tall. Very cool. Bring a sweatshirt - the wind never pauses!

Charming historical lighthouse with great views and a cute gift shop. We got the tour and Benjamin was a great source of information! Would love to come back during him back whale season.
Thalia K — Google review
Great visit. Waited TOO long to climb the lighthouse, hardly anyone was there. After 20 minutes, I read info inside, I asked. . . again. The young girl answered while chewing and walking away. She spoke rapidly that I was glad I'd read everything or knew about Fresnel lens. She needs better training. Benjamin, at the top, is a gem! Not an issue for this 63 year old, but know it is a climb to the top, but no rush. You do have to do the too ladder backwards, standard for lighthouses of that construction. Benjamin should conduct the entire tour.
Rochelle D — Google review
A bit pricey to visit, having to pay per person to enter then pay to climb up the lighthouse. We chose not to enter and enjoy from the overlook outside the entrance. It was convenient to have a portable potty to use outside the entrance but it needed to be badly serviced and cleaned.

Established in 1974, Navarro Vineyards & Winery has been a family-owned business for almost half a century. Located in Anderson Valley, California, this quaint winery offers a limited production of wines that are exclusively available for tasting and purchase at their on-site tasting room. Their range includes Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Pinot Blancs, as well as non-alcoholic grape juices made from their own grapes.
Wonderful atmospheres and friendly, helpful staff that seemed genuinely happy to have us. The wine is incredible, the tasting very reasonable (only $10!) and bottle prices surprisingly inexpensive (with bulk discounts) given the unique blends, flavor profiles and complexity. We came in without a reservation and were served immediately. We will be returning to enjoy the grounds and more wine soon!

Navarro Vineyards and Winery offers an exceptional experience, with Bill, a knowledgeable sommelier deeply rooted in its history, leading the way. His passion for the vineyard's rich legacy shines through as he shares insightful stories and expertly guides you through their impressive wine selection. The beautiful setting and exceptional wines make it a must-visit destination. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a personal, memorable winery experience!

Amazing venue! Staff were great! Wine is tasty. Do the wine making tour. You won't regret it. Dan was hilarious while explaining everything.

Traveling to the coast with my aunt and daughters we stopped at Navarro. What an incredible experience. We tried every wine on the menu! My youngest daughter who was 14, was even given special apple juices to try. I was impressed with our servers knowledge and love for wine! I bought a few bottles to bring back to SC and will be ordering more. Thank you for the lesson on the Riesling wine, which was delicious!

I've been a Navarro fan for years. A wine club member. Wines are lovely. But..today my sister and I had the worst tasting experience. I'm sad to say I won't be visiting anytime soon of ever.

What a beautiful winery. The views are spectacular, and the wines are great. Dog friendly, lots of shade on upper and lower patios, and many Adirondack chairs with umbrellas on the edge of the vineyards with a view of the hills. Very friendly and courteous staff. Knowledgeable and helpful. They carry cheeses from Penny Royal ( daughter owns it, ) which are delicious. No tasting fees! Was highly recommended, and we'll worth the visit.

Wonderful winery with natural wines since before it was popular. They have an extensive lineup of incredibly well produced wines without the markup. We recently enjoyed two bottles which were aged to perfection by accident, and well worth it! We also visited this summer and enjoyed the complementary tasting at their estate. Highly recommend a visit if you're in the area!

Park
Hendy Woods State Park is a charming destination in California's state park system, offering access to ancient redwood trees and the scenic Navarro River. The park features interpretive exhibits and family-friendly hiking trails, making it an ideal spot for a weekend visit to Mendocino. With over 80 redwood trees, some of which are over 500 years old, the park provides a serene setting for nature enthusiasts.
Nice campground, with spacious sites. Clean bathrooms and showers. Park brochure makes it seem that hiking is limited, but we had a beautiful 4mile hike through Redwoods, meadows, and past the famous "Hendy Hermit's" hut. Lots of nearby wineries and cider orchards. We did tastings of both. 45 minute drive to Mendocino on a beautiful road through the forest. Will be back again to explore more.

Took the family for two nights to experience camping in a small cabin. Each cabin has only two wooden beds but can sleep up to six people. We tried using air mattresses, but they made a lot of noise, so I recommend cushion pads instead. The family loved the small heater. As for the trails, they’re easy and about 1.5 hours round trip, with a beautiful forest to enjoy along the way.
Israel B — Google review
Stayed in one of the cabins -basic but comfortable, and such a great shelter during rainy days. The campground has plenty of tent and RV sites, all surrounded by beautiful redwoods. There are multiple trails leading right from the campground into the ancient redwood groves -absolutely magical! The park is peaceful, well maintained, and has a nice visitor center with helpful info. Loved that there’s also an electric vehicle charger on-site. A perfect spot for a relaxing nature getaway!

Campground was 10/10 Extremely clean bathrooms! The camp host was amazing! We visited mid April and the river was thriving! It was about a 1 mile hike to the river.
562_caligurl_89 R — Google review
I want to give this campground all the stars, but I can’t and this is why: Went with my adult daughter in late August 2025, the host and rangers were super nice and the assigned spot for tent camping in the Azalea loop was very spacious and lovely. We saw many deer in our camp site, a big spider, a scorpion living in the crack of a tree and a salamander. The loop trail was close to our space and it was a nice walk among the redwoods backing up to the Apple orchards next door. Definitely check out Gowans cider!!! The problem was mainly with the facilities. There is no soap in the bathrooms and no hand towel paper or blowers and you have to pay for showers! The wood bundles are pretty big and cost $10 so the extra pieces adds up and that’s ok, but paying $45 per night for a tent site with no soap or way to dry your hands then pay extra for showers is not a deal and makes the $45 seem overpriced. We had just stayed in Oregon at Harris Beach and I have to say, they’ve got the California redwoods beat when it comes to comfort. Be sure to bring everything to the bathrooms at this place. I would love to go back again if they update the amenities… I mean come on HendyWoods!
Stephanie M — Google review
I love this place! It’s a small state park but it has so much going for it. -Large, spacious campgrounds. -Beautiful redwood trees, about 4 miles of easy family friendly hiking trails. -Wild Blackberries! I came mid August and had so much fun foraging for blackberries during my hike. -Quiet during the day -Nearby Gowen’s and Apple Farm (Cider tasting) -Campsites can be a little loud in the evening when all the families gather for dinner at their sites. Everyone is respectful of quiet hours though. -Bathrooms are a little old and no bathroom soap provided so bring your own. -Showers are coin operated (4 quarters for 5 min). Set a timer on your phone and make a game out of it 🙃 -You can get shower tokens and bundles of wood from the campsite host before 8pm. -BEWARE of poison oak. If you know how to identify it, you’ll be OK. Would definitely come back again.

B Bryan Preserve is a unique sanctuary located on the southern Mendocino coast, where Frank and Judy Mello have established an African savannah experience. The preserve is dedicated to the conservation and breeding of endangered African hoof stock, including Roan, Sable, Greater Kudu Antelope, Grevys and Hartmanns Mountain Zebra, and Rothschilds Giraffe. Visitors can take guided tours to feed and observe these majestic animals in their natural habitat.
I didn’t stay so I can’t speak to the BnB experience but I went for a tour! It was really cool to be right by the ocean and see a bunch of African wildlife - very surreal! It’s quite small compared to other wildlife rescues I’ve been to but I liked it because the group was small enough to accommodate lots of questions and we all still got our giraffe feeding time. It was really educational and fun overall and I’d go again!
Alison E — Google review
Incredibly accommodating and helpful for my proposal to my now fiance. The cabins are amazing with the vintage items, hot tub, and animal decorations. The reserve and tour was perfect. This place is a hidden gem and they truly care about every single animal on site. Can’t wait to come back!
Zach G — Google review
We rented a couple of cabins as a family. They are interestingly crafted, from old school architectural salvage. Comfortable enough, though a little funky. We didn't go on the tour. Could see the giraffes from the driveway. But felt like staying (somewhat) in a prison camp. Can't walk around. There's only so much to do in Point Arena, two nights was one night too many for us. So pleasant but not worth the price imo.
Paula S — Google review
We stumbled upon a weekend giraffe feeding fundraiser at B Bryan Preserve while visiting a friend @arenabend in Point Arena. It was an informative and rewarding experience. From crashing coastal waves to African Safari in a matter of minutes. Many thanks to B Bryan Preserve, their professional staff and the business owner's passion for preservation. We will be back soon for a full tour.
Michael C — Google review
Judy was the rudest person I have ever met. From beginning of having two vehicles for group(parking sucks very limited spaces) to getting scolded for not feeding the giraffe fast enough or not close enough. The entire thing was rushed. The poor girls that have to endure the wrath of her on a daily. Kudos to them they were very kind. Stay far far away from Judy. The animals were as expected and as described. But her comments and approach of her customer service lacks. Would be a much better guided tour if the young lady’s ONLY spoke with guests and she stayed far away from public.
Lance C — Google review
We visited here during our annual Manchester camping trip. We chose to drive through in our own car. My daughter really only cared about feeding the giraffe at the end. Animals look very well cared for with plenty of room to roam. Baby zebras were extra cute!
Cass D — Google review
It is a very small drive through zoo with limited Africa animal types. The ticket is expensive than its tour value. The giraffe feeding is fun but the lady staff is impatient. She will keep asking you “are you done with feeding” and rush you out. Well, maybe it is because it is a private family business so I would not expect them to be professional. Overall a private zoo/lodge business with limited conditions. It is more expensive than what it is worthy for. I would not come again.

Wineries & Vineyards
Nestled in the picturesque Anderson Valley, Goldeneye Winery is a gem that beckons wine enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. Established in 1996 by celebrated vintners Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, this winery was born from a quest to craft exceptional Pinot Noir that rivals the best of Napa Valley. The estate benefits from fertile clay soils and a unique marine-influenced climate, creating ideal conditions for winemaking.
I’ve been waiting for years to check this box on my wine visit list and it didn’t disappoint! The tasting room is impeccable and our host, Dia, was awesome. All of the Duckhorn properties get an A+ and really know how to take care of their members when it comes to the tasting experience. It’s disappointing that the only discount on purchases requires a case. Although the Goldeneye portfolio is exquisite, you pay for it. Their single vineyard wines are a minimum of 20% higher than other Anderson Valley wines of comparable quality. Still giving 5 stars. Go visit and enjoy.
Rob S — Google review
Beautiful grounds, excellent customer service. Everything was poured with care. Dia was very knowledgeable about the varietals and the history of this sister vineyard of Duckhorn. She generously re-poured the one tasting that I strongly preferred. Would definitely recommend visiting this tasting room.

This winery is truly a must-do in the Anderson Valley! The property is stunning, and is a feast in and of itself. It’s lush with aromatic flowers, apple trees, and of course views of the vines across rolling hills. Taylor was so knowledgeable, personable and and generous with her presence. She was there when I needed her, and gave space to enjoy in between. Make this stop a priority on your next Mendo/Anderson Valley/Norcal trip!

Lake Mendocino, located in Mendocino County, is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The Shakota trail offers a pleasant three-mile shaded walk along the western shore of the lake, accessible from the Pomo Cultural Center. Visitors can enjoy various water activities such as sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding when the wind is blowing. Additionally, there are camping facilities, picnic areas, and family-friendly spaces with playgrounds available.
Best lake in mendocino county. Named after the county because of this. Sailing on this lake is fun when the wind is blowing. When it isnt a kayak or paddleboard are also fun. Camping, picnic areas, day use areas and family areas with playgrounds. This lake is underappreciated for its time. See it while you can. Run by corp of engineers who can at any time close areas off for any reason. Being under budget areas remain closed because of staffing. This affects all services but its still, the best lake in mendocino county. 5 stars.

What a special place! Had the fortune of walking around the grounds as a visitor on a lovely spring afternoon. Enjoyed the visitors center with the back story of the facility. So fun to peep out the windows at all the peacocks wandering about. Beautiful, serene, and vibrant. Lovely landscaping and beautiful spirit. Thanks!

We went in an early afternoon mid September. Not many visitors around. A volunteer approached us and told us about stories from the early days - how the peacocks came to be, how the well was successfully found after many attempts etc. We also went to visit the Buddha hall. Some ceremony was going on and we enjoyed listening for a few minutes. It was a fun stop while exploring what Ukiah has to offer.

Such a calm and beautiful place. Very peaceful inside the main temple. Plenty of peacocks all around and all of them are displaying their beauty to the peahens. Peacocks are friendly and not afraid of humans. There is a vegan restaurant inside and the food is amazing. This restaurant is only open in the afternoon.

Very informative exhibit room, well worth checking out for the historical perspective. Then go see the 10,000 buddas! There were services going on when we were there, so we tried to stay quiet and respectful, but the chanting made it even more breathtaking. I'm so grateful that they welcome visitors.

Amqzing Monastery . The person at the administrative office is very helpful and guides what to visit and shares the details of how it became what is it today. Lots of peacock including a white peacock.Buddha Hall is especially mesmerizing . It has 10000 gold buddhas and large meditation hall. They were offering 15 books for free . Wish I could see their vegan/ vegetarian cafe.

Tranquil trip to this pleasant spot. You can feel the energy resonating from historical artifacts. Situated near Ukiah, this winery not only delights the palate but also captivates all senses with its scenic beauty.
Nelson Family Vineyards was fantastic. Some of the best wine we have had - served by the friendliest tasting room hosts(Robin and Theresa) we have ever encountered. Sitting in the shade of some 30 redwood trees was lovely, too. Cheese, crackers, good wine, and a gentle breeze with the sun coming down on you - what's not to like? We stayed on the property through our Harvest Host membership. We would have never experienced this delightful day. The stars and the quiet were great. We're looking forward to returning someday. This scenic trail, accessible from behind local establishments like Surf Motel and Surf Market, allows visitors to soak in stunning vistas of the river estuary and surrounding bluffs. If you're lucky, you might even spot harbor seals frolicking in the water or a majestic bald eagle soaring above.

Very nice short simple walking trail with spectacular views of the Gualala River where it meets the Pacific Ocean. Timed correctly you can watch harbor seals swim and hunt and a beautiful bald eagle soaring overhead. Now here is the down side, finding parking along highway 1 can be challenging, especially on weekends. Best bet is grab a meal and do some shopping at the local spots and then walk behind the buildings to walk along the bluffs.

Beautiful park. There is a parking cost but well worth it. The walk to the beach is filled with lots of green trees and a nicely paved path for a majority of the walk. Yorkville Cellars

Winery
Food & Drink
Wineries & Vineyards
Yorkville Cellars is an exceptional winery situated in the Bordeaux region. It is home to the only known vineyards outside France that cultivate organic grapes. The winery boasts of a recently renovated tasting room, featuring a charming outdoor deck where visitors can enjoy serene surroundings and might even spot a woodpecker or two on the ancient Oak tree. Yorkville Cellars offers high-quality white wines along with impressive big bold Reds such as Carmenere which are less commonly found.
Stopped by on a whim, and I'm glad we did. Comfortable and welcoming tasting room. We had a great wine experience with our host, Owen, who led us through all their lovely bordeaux varietals. The wines surprisingly lovely we wonderful expressions of each varietal. Walked away with a white blend (sauv blan + semillon) and a merlot, but honestly, I would have been happy with any of the bottles. I suppose that means we'll have to go back for more soon.

Good quality big bold Reds including the little seen Carmenere. Folksy friendly style Tasting Room and Winery. Affordable and not at all Napa style snobbiness.

Absolutely beautiful winnery. The wines are special, single grape varieties or blends. Their tasting room has wonderful customer service!

Yorkville Cellars has our favorite wines of Anderson valley. If you are are planning to be in Anderson Valley you should not miss this winery. We were fortunate to be guided by Eoin who was very well informed. We loved all the wines especially the Semillion and the Richard The Lion Heart blend.

Buyer beware of ordering online from Yorkville Cellars. I ordered a case a wine the first week in December. The email said it would be delivered the week of December 11th. Although the $$s were deducted from my account, my daughter has not received the wine. I’ve tried calling and emailing (the confirmation email asks to kindly contact them via email, and that they value each email). Frustrating as this is their Christmas gift and I don’t know at all if it will be delivered. And they will be gone at the end of this week so will not be there for a signature. I will update if I ever hear back from them.

Terrific winery. Very beautiful and such tasty varietals. Eoin led our tasting and was incredibly knowledge and went above and beyond to show around the vineyard. Can’t wait to come back.

We arrived at Yorkville just around closing time and Gary was gracious enough to let us in for a last minute tasting. We really loved the wine and got to meet the Cellar cat, Slate. Overall our favorite spot on our wine country tour!

I'd give Bobdog Wines 11 stars if I could. First, it's a gorgeous place... about 2000 feet above the floor of the Alexander Valley, the highest winery by elevation in Sonoma County. Second, Tim, the owner, carved out two hours for my wife and me during harvest/crush week, a generous accommodation beyond measure. He gave us the ultimate, consummate and fun lesson in tasting red wines. We will never, ever forget Tim or our experience at Bobdog Wines.
Edward F — Google review
We didn't end up going to Bobdog winery as they were in their crushing phase of the season but he gave us a great recommendation to J Rickards which was an awesome experience for the afternoon! 10/10 on the recommendation!
Charles C — Google review
Had such a great time visiting BobDog Winery! Tim, the owner, makes sure each tour is personalized and sits with you to teach you about the wine making process. He also curates a very informative tasting that helps you analyze the wines and get in touch with all of your senses when tasting. This was a much more intimate and educational tasting than other wineries in the area will provide. Not to mention Tim was very kind and funny so we had a blast the whole time. The ride up to his place is a bit of a trek but the views are 100% worth it. 10/10 recommend booking a tour here if you’re looking for a unique Sonoma experience.
Claire H — Google review
Our visit to BobDog Winery with good friends was by far the best wine tasting experience we have ever had. The estate winemakers personally sit with you around a table and explain the nuances of their blends as well as the behind-the-scenes operations required to grow and produce the vintages. We literally felt like we were visiting family while there. You'll never experience a more pleasurable and intimate wine tasting.
Terrel M — Google review
All I can say is WOW!!!!! The drive up is a trip. Be prepared to rough it as parts of the road is not paved, steep and has some tight turns. The winery is worth it. Great view from the road. Saw some deer. We sat and talked wine and tasted for almost 2 hrs. Not fancy, very relaxed and low key. Tim showed us how to really taste the wine. We have lived in No. Calif. for 45 years, (yes we tasted all those years), and now there are about 400+ wineries within a 2 1/2 hr drive and this one is the top!!!! Both in quality and location at 2000 ft. We got tired of the Napa Valley and the attitude of many of the wineries there. We will be repeat visitors to Bob Dog and will be drinking some of the wine at home this weekend!!!!.

Been vacationing in Sonoma for a week. Visited several wineries. Bobdog was by far our favorite. Owns Tim and Candy are amazing. They take a lot of time teaching their guest about wine tasting and food pairing. Make an appointment to go! Out of the way but worth every minute. Really nice quality wine and a great experience!
Linda V — Google review
What a wonderful place. The wine is exceptional and the owners are funny and informative. And the views! It's the highest winery in the county and you can see over the Vineyard into the valley below with the Ridges on the other side. It reminds me of Italy. Outstanding. You cannot see this any where else. And they are dog friendly! I will definately return for more. Can't wait to see it in the spring. I bet it's beautiful.

Had a lovely afternoon at Bob Dog Winery.. Tim was fun and interesting and taught us a lot about wine tasting.. he even included our 14year old daughter (not in tasting) but she was allowed to listen to the lesson and learn for the future.. we all had a great time and took home some bottles... Thank you Tim. Glad we skipped Napa and headed to Coverdale it was a great drive through the fields..

Salt Point State Park is a stunning coastal destination in Northern California, offering panoramic views, rocky coastlines, and secluded coves. The park features wild tafoni rock formations to the south of Stump Beach and a breathtaking coastal waterfall at Phillips Gulch to the north. Visitors can explore whimsical rock formations along the bluff in the coastal prairie north of Fisk Mill Cove.
We arrived to do the hike from Salt Point trail to Stump Beach. The path was easily navigated with some spots of mud (recently rained) The coastline was amazingly beautiful- not sure if we arrived at a special time, but the waves were crashing spectacularly. The last walk down to stump beach was the only real “climbing” you need to do with a small navigation across some water to get to the main beach.
Michael C — Google review
Stunning views of the coast. Very easy to walk around, and due to the remote location, usually not too crowded. A bit of a precarious drive if coming from the south, and coast is similar to Monterey Bay or other locations closer to SF. But nice trails to enjoy both the sea and forest.
Jeff D — Google review
Beautiful grounds up the coast. I graded a 4 due to driveway conditions for trailers and their listing of "no potable water on site" but there is all throughout. Just don't hog it is all. Sites are well maintained and bathrooms clean with flush toilets. Amazing scenery not far away moderate trail to rocky ocean. We will be back, maybe after they fix the driveway.
Happy M — Google review
Amazing state park. 10 out of 10 would recommend. Do all the trails, anytime of year, preferably in winter/spring when everything is green.
Josiah R — Google review
Awesome park on the Pacific ocean west coast. The rock formations are so amazingly beautiful. Every step reveals a new form.
Anastasia M — Google review
Low-key state park south of Sea Ranch is hands down beautiful. Amazing and easy hike on the bluff above the ocean. It was a gorgeous 70 something degree and sunny day and the park was nearly empty. Saw sea lions and seals in the surf, and numerous vultures and hawks floating on the updrafts. Was high tide so we couldn’t experience the tide pool areas but I’ll bet they are equally stunning. The sandstone rock formations were beautiful. We scoped out the campgrounds, they didn’t seem like anything terribly special but the location is top notch.

Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery, nestled in Sonoma's Dry Creek Valley, is a charming family-owned winery offering a variety of delicious wines sourced from sustainable vineyards. From the renowned Fume Blanc to classic Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as red and Rosé wines crafted from Sangiovese grapes that pay homage to the family's Italian roots.
Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery Tucked away in the heart of Sonoma County, Ferrari-Carano might be one of the most underrated wine tasting destinations we’ve ever visited. From the moment we stepped onto the property, we were in awe. The grounds are stunning—meticulously designed and beautifully maintained, with views that rival any estate in Napa or Sonoma. Every corner felt like a perfect photo moment, but more importantly, it felt like a peaceful retreat. The staff was incredibly warm, knowledgeable, and passionate about their wines. We were welcomed with genuine hospitality and guided through our tasting with insight that made every pour more meaningful. It didn’t feel rushed or scripted—it felt like they truly loved what they do and where they do it. And the wines? Fantastic. Balanced, elegant, and memorable. From bold reds to crisp whites, everything we tried was impressive—and we’ve done our fair share of tastings across California. If you’re looking for a refined yet relaxed experience, make the time to visit Ferrari-Carano. It’s a hidden gem that deserves far more attention than it gets. We’ll definitely be returning—and bringing friends with us next time.

O my gosh I have to brag on our server/ wine tour guide Danny. My sisters, mom and I came in for a girls trip and decided to make the drive out to Sonoma for a wine tour. Amazing service and experience. Danny was attentive, very informative and super sweet. He has great customer service, great recommendations and just went above and beyond for our day. The wines, cheese board and chocolates were so delicious. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

I have visited Ferrari-Carano multiple times but today we had Victor serve us and had such a lovely experience. Good wine and lots of shared knowledge about the local wine. We asked about memberships and decided the value was beyond compare. A beautiful setting awaits guests at this winery with excellent customer service. Don’t miss out on the shady garden as well.

Visited Ferrari-Carano for the first time with friends - I've been wanting to make it out to Healdsburg for ages and this was the perfect excuse. We booked the Pranzo Della Casa and it was such a refreshing change from a typical tasting with little (or no) food. Each course was thoughtfully prepared and the wine pairings were excellent - I would definitely want to return for this experience alone! The property itself is gorgeous and well-maintained. We weren't able to explore the grounds fully due to a private event taking place that day, but even just the building and front gardens were picture-perfect. The staff were also very accommodating with a few last-minute, unplanned requests, which we really appreciated and will definitely remember when planning a return trip. Highly recommend if you're looking for something a step above the standard tasting - a beautiful setting, gracious staff, and a memorable food-and-wine experience.

This was a great way to end our trip, our favorite wines and best spot we visited. Maureen was excellent to us, knowledgeable, friendly, with a great attitude. So many new things coming to this spot, and we are eager to see what’s in store!

Nature & Parks
Fort Ross State Historic Park is an 1812 Russian-American settlement located on the scenic California Highway One, offering sandy beaches, panoramic coves, and redwood forests with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. The park features several preserved and replica buildings from the early 1800s, a small museum, trails, campsites, and access to Sandy Cove beach. Visitors can explore the history of Russian presence in North California while enjoying breathtaking ocean vistas.
Fort Ross was a highlight of our recent day trip from Bodega Bay. The drive along Highway 1 was breathtaking, with stunning coastal views and winding roads that made for an adventure in itself. The fort itself is rich in history, offering a glimpse into the Russian settlement that once thrived along this stretch of California’s coast. Walking through the reconstructed buildings, including the chapel and wooden stockade, gave us a real sense of life in the early 1800s. The visitor center had excellent exhibits on Russian exploration, trade, and interactions with the local Kashia Pomo people. One of our favorite parts was the beautiful walk down to the ocean. The trail winds through lush coastal terrain and opens up to a stunning view of the Pacific. We spotted seals lounging on the rocks and enjoyed the peaceful, rugged beauty of the shoreline. The weather was cool and breezy—perfect for exploring. If you’re in the Bodega Bay area, Fort Ross is well worth the visit. It’s a great mix of history, nature, and incredible scenery, making for a memorable day trip.

I had an amazing time exploring Fort Ross State Historic Park. The fort stands atop the bluffs and filled with stunning ocean views. The park shows us an amazing history of a Russian outpost settled in 1812. I went on Saturday and there were role players in the fort. There are several trails through the area.
Stewart C — Google review
Fort Ross is an incredibly unique and well-preserved historical site that offers a surprising look at a less-known chapter of California's history – its time as a Russian outpost! Very cool place to visit
Robb J — Google review
Cool piece of history. Neat to go into many of the buildings. Its also great there is a bathroom within the fort walls that is a very nice touch. Be sure to bring your walking shoes and beach towel. Its about a half mile walk down to the beach, which is very nice. The beach had jellyfish washed ashore and pelicans diving for fish. The water there is beautiful in color, albeit cold.

Go back in time with Fort Ross Visit. Beautiful woodwork on a large scale and stunning lagoon to hike to! We loved fortifications of a real fort. Very cool place to visit, especially if you enjoy a beautiful walk or more challenging hike further down to the ocean
DressageArt — Google review
Absolutely stunning and full of history! Fort Ross is one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The restored buildings and museum displays bring the early Russian settlement and Native Kashia Pomo heritage to life in such a beautiful way. The ocean views from the bluff are breathtaking, and the coastal trails are peaceful and easy to walk. The park is well maintained, the staff and volunteers are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and there’s a calm, almost spiritual atmosphere here. Great stop for families, history lovers, or anyone driving along Highway 1. Don’t miss the small chapel and the view of the cove -it’s magical at sunset!
Olga L — Google review
It was unexpected for the park to be so immersive and educational. The history was very cool and interesting. The views of the Pacific and areas by the water were gorgeous!
Jennifer B — Google review
We were really impressed with Fort Ross Historical Park. The 15 minute video at the Visitors Center was really informative, and it was one of the best Visitors Center we’ve been to. We then wanted through the woods to the reconstructed Fort (which has one original building in it) It was really well maintained, we actually saw 2 men sweeping floors there. In all, Fort Ross was a great experience and exceeded our expectations.

Nestled in the picturesque Alexander Valley, Francis Ford Coppola Winery is a stunning Second French Empire-style chateau that exudes elegance and charm. The winery, owned by the renowned director Francis Ford Coppola, boasts a unique blend of movie relics and fine wines. Visitors can explore an impressive collection of memorabilia from iconic films like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, including Vito Corleone's desk and props from other significant works.
The team took really great care of me and my mom. The private tour was a lot of fun and educational, we also did the wine tasting with incredible cheese pairing and we wrapped up with a delicious dinner in their patio while watching the sunset. Just pure bliss and a vibe that makes you want to stay forever!!🍷🍷

What a winery! First, we were late to our wine tasting but called in advance to let them know and they were able to accommodate us moving our slot. The wine tasting with the food pairing was amazing. One of our clients join the wine club! Great wine, great staff, and great environment! Would come again.

The only complaint was we should have booked an entire day here! Mr. Coppola's vision of a destination for the entire family has been accomplished. We took the tour of the winery and memorabilia from his movies. Beautiful vistas, buildings, and grounds. Interesting facts and pieces of several outstanding movies. We finished with a wine tasting and bocce. Next time we will rent a cabana, which comes with a lockable changing room, with shower, to enjoy the great looking outdoor pool.

Have been here twice now, once for a birthday and today for my anniversary that also turned into my engagement date! We had the same server both times, and he was amazing both times! The views are gorgeous, the service is amazing, and the atmosphere is perfect! Portions are big in my opinion. Payed $100 for both including 3 dishes, 1 special drink, and a soda. I don’t think thats bad at all considering the flavor is consistent each time! The pizza and cesar salads are top tier!

The indoor and outdoor setup at Dry Creek is highly recommended for those in the area. Guests can enjoy a beautiful setting with excellent wine selection poured by knowledgeable staff.
First visit to California ever, and I think I did it just right by starting it out at wine country! The grounds are absolutely breathtaking and makes you feel like you are in a secret garden from a storybook. Paige was our hostess, and our group has a great time with her. She was very knowledgeable, personable, and just really gave us the time to relax and enjoy our wine tasting without feeling rushed. I liked that it was a little bit more secluded, had a relaxed vibe and it wasn’t too fussy. A huge perk was that you were also able to bring your own picnic lunch. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

I took my boyfriend here for a Californian wine tasting experience and it was so perfect. The vineyards are beautiful and expansive and free to roam through but the service is also just as special. We were hosted by Darren who was extremely knowledgeable about the tasting notes of every wine and the individual process it takes to make each bottle. Darren offered us samples of lots of wines too and we even got a special wine cellar tour that we weren’t expecting. He then introduced us to the family owner of the Dry Creek Vineyard itself (like meeting royalty!). He really made our visit so memorable. If you’re planning a wine tour whilst in the area, this historic site is an essential first stop!

First time visit via scheduled tasting that will be the first of many visits. Josh provided the tasting of many varietals and allowed those in our group to let the wines speak for themselves. In a no-pressure environment, we learned some history about the vineyard and the various factors affecting each the wines they offer. The facility is modern and comfortable and has many gifts for sale. The grounds are perfect for a simple day out (you can bring in your own food, in addition to the standard fare available on site) where you can enjoy a bottle or tastings. If you're looking for a vineyard that's easy to enjoy, with a fine selection of wines, all set in a clean, simple, yet enjoyable environment, Dry Creek should be on the list....

These exclusive rooms are available to members of the winery loyalty program and feature queen beds, designer linens, fireplaces, and elegant decor. The winery also offers guided vineyard hikes through its expansive 1,200-acre property.
What a beautiful property!! We did the Terrace Tasting and we're not disappointed. The tour is informative and interesting, and the property is a showstopper. They specialize in Cabernet and Chardonnay, both were fantastic, especially the newer Chardonnay from their concrete "eggs." That was new for us but we loved the added minerality, super interesting and very drinkable. The food pairings were also delicious, our favorite was the oven baked bread and pumpkin seed cheese dish, wowza! Great experience.
Shelby P — Google review
Jordan is one of our favorite wineries, and during this visit to Napa we wanted our friends to experience more than just a tasting; we wanted them to see everything that makes a winery special. Fabulous doesn’t even begin to describe this tour. It begins with a charming continental breakfast in the Bacchus Courtyard, featuring fruit from their own farm. Our fabulous host gave us a bit of history about Jordan and its iconic chateau. From there, you’re whisked away in a Mercedes Sprinter through the rolling hills, vineyards, and views that stretch endlessly. The journey is filled with memorable stops: a peaceful pond where we enjoyed Chardonnay tastings, a garden where we picked fresh fruits and veggies and fed the goats, and pastures where we saw longhorn cattle and chickens. We paused at a beautiful vineyard to learn about the grapes and vines before finishing at the estate's Vista Point where we enjoyed Cabernet (including library vintages!), chef-prepared light wine-pairing lunch at Vista Point, and some of their house made olive oil. It’s part tour, part picnic, part luxury experience...and 100% the best way to enjoy Jordan’s hospitality and Sonoma’s beauty. Truly unforgettable. As if the day couldn’t get better, we ran into John Jordan as we were leaving. He stopped to chat and make sure we had a great time; genuinely friendly and welcoming, the perfect ending to a perfect day.

If you ever find yourself in the Healdsburg area, Jordan Vineyard & Winery is a must-visit for wine tasting—it’s just as lovely in person as it looks on camera. We stopped by Jordan Winery today because we wanted to purchase their champagne and amazing wine. Mr. Jordan supports non profits and groups who help those pursuing educational advancement. We just wanted to stop and thank him for what he does. He supported a group we know in Indiana. The staff was so kind to us, and John was there to say hello when we left. Not only is their wine fantastic, but they use proceeds to help others. It was a great visit. We look forward to returning soon. We have been to many wineries in the area and his is by far is the most stunning property.

Our Friday afternoon visit to Jordan was great. From the drive in, to the landscaping and buildings, to the scenic views, interior decor and of course the olive oil and wine itself. Really enjoyed our experience visiting Jordan while in town. We enjoyed our company so much we didn’t even take any photos of the tasting itself! Stop by this classy, family owned and operated establishment.

Our family visited this winery for the Chef's Terrace Tasting on Saturday 8/9/25. The chateau is one of the most beautiful in Sonoma wine region. Our tour guide, Jaden, offered us a glass of champagne at the beginning of the tour before we learned about the facilities. The wine tasting and the food sampler are excellent, especially the bread. The 2021 Chardonnay and the 2018 Cab Sauv are amazing. Chef Jesse is kind enough to introduce each dish. It's a remarkable winery to visit.

Must try wine pairing experience in Sonoma County! My partner and I have tried tons of wineries throughout Northern California. Of all the wine pairings we’ve done Jordan offers a great experience for the price! The estate is stunning and expansive - styled after a French chateau. On our tour we got to see the interior of the estate as well as a short canvas of some exterior property features like the small farm that’s onsite. As for the tour itself, our party was greeted and given an overview of the event as well as info about the property and owners. Our host did an amazing job setting the stage and making you feel connected to the Jordan family. Outside, we were given a Chardonnay to enjoy while exploring some of the exterior parts of the property. Once inside we toured the wine making facilities and some beautiful rooms in the chateau where events are hosted onsite. As we made our way through the inside of the property we learned Jordan makes two Chardonnays and two Cabernets. We enjoyed the wines with a beautifully crafted and carefully thought out food pairing. If you notify the staff ahead of time they’ll accommodate dietary needs. I was able to have a vegan menu that was AMAZING. It’s also worth noting Jordan makes their own olive oil and features this as part of their tasting. You can buy the olive oil onsite which is a real treat. As for the wines, I was not the biggest fan of the whites, but then again I’m not a Chardonnay person. The reds were some of the best cabs I’ve had in Sonoma County. I’d describe them as silky, velvety, and full bodied. Perfect to enjoy with food and good company. If you’re wanting a true experience for a wine pairing, I’d highly recommend giving Jordan a try! Also, one member of our party was celebrating a birthday and the host went out of his way to have the kitchen make him special truffles to be sent home with! I mean, come on!

Wonderful time shooting virtual tours at Jordan Vineyard & Winery in Healdsburg — this place is absolutely stunning! The vineyard views, the people who work there, the architecture, the energy of the land… just breathtaking. ✨

Nature & Parks
Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, located in Sonoma County, is a haven for nature enthusiasts and hikers. The reserve boasts majestic redwood trees that tower like skyscrapers, providing cooling shade and tranquility. Visitors can explore scenic trails, enjoy breathtaking views, spot wildlife, and participate in educational programs. The park's historic features add to its old-world charm, including the 1940s-era Pond Farm and the Redwood Forest Theater built in 1934.
A Wonderful Stroll Among Giants. We had such a fantastic time visiting this park! It's a lovely, small redwood park that offers a truly enjoyable experience for families, even with little ones. We really appreciated how nicely leveled and mostly flat the trail path was. This made for an incredibly easy and pleasant walk, and we were even able to navigate it with our lightweight stroller without any issues – a huge plus for parents! While mostly flat, there were some nicely varied, gentle elevation changes that added to the experience without being strenuous. Walking among the towering redwoods was absolutely breathtaking and incredibly peaceful. It truly is a serene escape. A big bonus for us was the small play area near the trees, which was perfect for entertaining our toddler and letting them burn off some energy. We highly recommend this park for anyone looking for an accessible, beautiful walk amongst majestic trees. It's perfect for a relaxing outing with family!

Beautiful state park! $10 parking unless you park on the street out front and walk in. The waterfall left a lot to be desired in late October. But the general atmosphere was lovely. Especially if you like the wet, rainy weather. East Ridge Trail connector was closed when we were there so we ended up making the steep trek up Pool Ridge Trail. No dogs permitted on the trails and honestly, the drive in was the prettiest part. Still worth a visit!

We came all the way from San Diego - and this is what I would do before coming - First I would check the weather forecast and then come. We did not realize it was going to be raining 🌧️ but we came anyway. We did not have any rain atire but some cheap umbrellas ☔️ ( 👀😳) don’t make the mistake we made but come prepared. With the right shoes , clothes and good sturdy boots 🥾, and you will enjoy it ! We had the yearly pass so we got in quickly . We parked at the end and then walked. We got a little wet but we genuinely loved the entire experience. I went to the gift store and got a backpack pin and a coffee cup and a post card. The entire trip was nice! I would of loved it if the sun was out.

Loved it! The redwoods are out of this world! We visited Miur Woods over 20 years ago so decided to go here this time. It did not disappoint. We probably walked between 2-3 miles total with a little backtracking. It's all very flat except the little waterfall hike. It seems like it's always pretty damp in there so light breathable clothes are a good choice. We seen one woman in high heels but I would recommend good walking shoes. If you've never seen redwoods you have to put it on your list.

Very beautiful! Definitely go in a weekday. There is plenty of parking in the morning. $10 parking fee. Free parking on the outside of the parking lot. Bathrooms as well are pretty decent. Enjoy your hike to the smallest waterfall ever, hahaha. But the hike on the trails is WORTH IT! Definitely family friendly.

Amazing park! Friendly employees/rangers. Easy paths to walk (and harder ones if you're up for it!). We walked the main loop and saw the three highlighted trees, and then we hiked uphill about 15 minutes before we turned around. We went on a Thursday which seemed to be a good time. Not too crowded. We were there from about 10:30 to 1:30. They have many bathrooms and picnic tables which I really appreciated! Highly recommend!

Breathtaking scenery and serene silence is the best way I can characterize this place. $10 gets you a pass to drive through the park. No time limit on parking from my understanding, so you will not feel rushed to get in and get out. There are multiple trail heads to explore. While most of them are relatively short, there really is no need to power through them as you'll have no shortage of natural beauty to stop and admire. Be careful of hornets while picnicking at one of the areas. They will swarm your food and your entire picnic spread.

Amazing experience. So much better than Muir Woods. The Armstrong tree is huuuuuuge and the quiet, secluded environment is so pleasant and relaxing. If you arrive at park early, no one is there. You can use the automated kiosk to get in and park almost next to the Armstrong and Parsons….the 1400 and 1300 year old 300+ feet Redwoods. There are decks for touching specific redwoods to feel the energy.

Outdoor Activities
Goat Rock Beach is a picturesque stretch of sandy shoreline featuring weathered boulders, active waves, and seal sightings. Located within Sonoma Coast State Park near the mouth of the Russian River, this Jenner beach offers stunning views of immense sea stacks and white-capped waves. It's a popular spot for various activities such as birdwatching, hiking along trails like Kortum Trail and Pomo Canyon Trail, which leads hikers into a redwood forest with a seasonal waterfall.
My daily landscapes are flat… NOTHING like GOAT ROCK which has almost become a sort of pilgrimage for us. The awesomeness of how this humongous rock was formed… There really are no words! It’s like after North America was formed, just to add a final statement to prove grandeur Goat Rock stands proud! A beautiful part of Creation for sure! If you love being outdoors make this a “GOTTA GO HERE”on your bucket list! Enjoy!!

Goat Rock Beach looks absolutely stunning—definitely one of those classic Northern California coastal views. I had planned to visit recently but ended up turning around because the wind was just too intense. Definitely recommend checking the wind forecast before you go, especially if you’re hoping to hang out or take photos. Still on my list to revisit on a calmer day because the views alone are worth it!

Beautiful spot. Bring binoculars to view the seals because you have to stay a good distance away. We also spotted a bald eagle on our visit!

Blew my mind as soon as I drove into Blind Beach parking lot. You get the whole view of Goat Rock Beach. Absolutely incredible. It is very windy! Definitely going to visit again.

Huge beach that makes for a good walk. Dogs are allowed but keep them on leash when there are other people around. Would bring a jacket cause the fog rolls in quick. The current looks strong and the water is cold, would recommend a dip but not a swim.

Man… Goat Rock Beach hit me right in the soul. The moment I stepped out of the car, I felt that rush—that excited, adventurous spark I always get when I’m about to explore somewhere new. The wind was wild, the waves were crashing like they were putting on a show just for me, and the whole place had this raw, powerful beauty that kinda grabs you by the chest. Standing there looking out at the ocean, I honestly felt small in the best way possible. Like the world is huge, mysterious, and full of places just waiting to be discovered. I love that feeling. It’s like being in a real-life open-world game where the scenery hits you with actual emotion. The rocks, the cliffs, the way the fog comes in and wraps around everything—it’s dramatic, almost cinematic. I kept stopping just to breathe it all in. And that’s not even me trying to be poetic; it genuinely felt like the beach was talking to me. You know that quiet, deep kind of happiness you get when a place just feels right? Yeah. That. Now, I gotta say—this isn’t your chill “lay in the sand and nap” beach. Nah. Goat Rock Beach is an experience. It’s the kind of place that makes your heart thump a little faster, makes you feel alive, makes you want to explore every corner. I left feeling refreshed, energized, and honestly a little emotional in the best way. It’s one of those rare spots that hits your adventurous side and your soul at the same time. If you love nature that feels wild, dramatic, and unforgettable—Goat Rock Beach is absolutely a must-see. Go for the views, stay for the feeling it leaves you with.

Great beautiful location to see and feel the California coast line. Nice place the hang out, nice sandy beach below the outlet of the Russian River. Don’t recommend going in the water here. Undertows and rough currents. The beauty of the area is peaceful and quaint. The river area there is kayaking and paddle boarding.
