Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area

Park
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Nature preserve over 1,900 acres featuring many rare plants, plus 7 miles of hiking trails.
6+ miles of trails Good hiking for an intermediate. Very rocky, lots of clay, a few nice placards about the ecosystem and history of the 1800’s chromium mine. Gets very wet after rain and melted snow due to the serpentine rocks and clay. The old mine entrance is fenced off. Not much to see but neat!
Ben N — Google review
Soldiers Delight is an absolute gem hidden amongst the suburbs. The trails are well-marked and clean, and Soldiers Delight is perfect for both short strolls and longer hikes. Each trail has its own charm, and along the way you'll find plenty of native plants. One heads-up: In the warmer months, ticks are plentiful, so definitely check yourself before heading home.
Maxim R — Google review
This is a great place for a nature hike. We hit the trail late morning and enjoyed the ever changing light of a party cloudy spring day. Lots of native wildflowers in bloom. A fair amount of birds were active in the brush and understory. Sweeping views of the native grasslands and oaks forests top of the highlights of the Serpentine Loop trail. Highly recommended for nature lovers.
Angela A — Google review
We cannot wait to go back to Soldiers Delight! Plenty of parking at the visitors center and the restrooms were very clean. The center had nice educational signage on the walls as well. This morning we hit the 3-ish moderately difficult mile Serpentine Trail and a couple notes: wear water resistant shoes and be prepared for rocks and tree roots. This is not a stroller or accessible trail so keep that in mind, but goodness it is a beautiful trail! The views were gorgeous and if you stopped to listen you'd hear absolutely nothing - it was SO quiet while surrounded by incredible rolling hills. There are several trails marked and we hope to try the Choate mining trail next. The Serpentine trail was very enjoyable and although muddy/watery most of the way, we'd definitely hit this relatively short but moderate trail again.
Tiffany D — Google review
Went to walk the serpentine trail and loved it. The trail is somewhat muddy at places and difficult to keep balance, so wear good shoes if you are planning to go there. Vast expanse of land reminds the landscape of northern CA. The landscape is a geological marvel dotted with Virginia pines. Must see for a outdoor lover. The visitor center stuff are really helpful. Enjoyed the turtles there, never had seen/heardcsome of them before.
Rima B — Google review
Amazing hiking area. Some hills are a tad steep and there are some loose stones on the trail. Went on a day after a good rain but not that muddy. If you want hiking with a variety of terrain, good looking stones, deer, chipmunks, and frogs, this is the place. Visitor center was closed so no instant info on what some of the plants, stones, and flowers that are here. No ticks and just a few spider webs.
Kristie W — Google review
Nice areas to walk! Peaceful area. Trails are well maintained and marked. Cool rock formations too!
Emily J — Google review
Soldiers Delight Natural Environmental Area is a nature reserve (~1700 acres) with about 7 miles of trails to explore. it’s also one of the few places you can actually walk that was part of the oven floor (make sure to read about the serpentine bedrock along the trail!) so in addition to the beautiful grounds, walking on the floor was quite cool for a nerd like me! 😂

Black Ankle Vineyards

Winery
Food & Drink
Wineries & Vineyards
I absolutely LOVE this vineyard. Firstly, it's beautiful but also the selection of wines are top tier. I actually had my wedding here and I 100% recommend doing so for those that are looking to do something intimate. Jen is the GOAT! I can't say enough about her and how amazing she was to work with. My entire family loved her. So please check them out as you're vineyard hopping this summer or if you're looking to plan an event 💕
Nori — Google review
Very expansive compared to the other wineries in the area. Also the most expensive. Tried the wine flight and the red house wine was our favorite. They have a tasting bar inside and out as well as several seating options inside and out. So many gatherings going on for birthday, Graduation, etc & allowed outside decor and food. They had a food truck on site Saturday afternoon and have some snacks on hand. Greatly appreciate the woman working inside that checked the allergies and confirmed the fresh baguette is dairy free
K K — Google review
TL:DR - Beautiful property and good wine, but an awful first impression and terrible service from one staff member. We recently flew across the country to visit family in the area. This was the final stop on a Saturday evening after touring other local wineries, breweries, and restaurants. The grounds were immaculate and the vibe was energetic when we arrived. The place was busy but there was plenty of space for our small group and we were seated in a timely manner. Unfortunately, our first impression of service was terrible. It was especially jarring after having visited many other establishments prior where were made to feel welcome and appreciated. The hostess informed us we could order wine at an outside bar or inside. We opted to go inside to order. In hindsight, the whole negative experience could have been avoided had we simply chosen to order outside. At the indoor bar, there was one gentleman helping another couple, so we positioned ourselves at an open portion of the bar to wait patiently. We were never acknowledged by the man behind the bar, not even to say he'd be right with us. Nothing. After waiting for quite some time and beginning to feel impatient, the staff member behind the bar finally addressed us and was visibly annoyed when we explained we just wanted to order wine and not do a full tasting. He made a few passive and frankly, rude, comments about signage and hastily began trying to flag down other employees to help us. He then immediately went back to being friendly to other guests, creating an unwelcoming experience for us as first-time visitors who happened to look nothing like the other customers at the bar. I won't name him here but he is featured on the winery's website. Thankfully, Niki stepped in and did her best to turn the experience around. She was kind, apologetic, and ultimately went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We truly appreciated her efforts, as well as the hospitality from the other staff we encountered later on. All in all, we enjoyed the wine and the rest of our visit, but that rocky start left a bad impression. I hope this feedback is helpful. Especially for welcoming new guests who are excited to patronize a local business.

I’d been coming here for over 10 years and this winery keeps on delivering pretty good wines consistently, the service is outstanding by their wine servers at the different bar locations with ample space outdoors while keeping you protected by the sails that are being arranged throughout, the facility is kid friendly and snacks, charcuterie, cheese trays, olives and crackers are offered from a good selection in addition to food trucks services (I’ll elaborate on that separately), and a great live jazz music provided by “ Henry and Friends” a trio from Westminster, MD., to really enhance your visit as well . There’s ample free parking and Tesla charging stations are available making this a great pick on a Friday or a weekend rain or shine as they’re open up to 8:30 PM!
Alberto Z — Google review
I had the best time with my husband! Allie, who helped us, was incredibly kind and thoughtful—especially when she noticed we had a baby and offered us indoor seating since it was too sunny outside. The staff overall was so sweet. Loved the location and the whole vibe. And the Albariño wine? Absolutely divine—it totally won me over! Can’t wait to come back again and again!
Shreya G — Google review
The vineyard was absolutely beautiful! The staff was welcoming and friendly, and the music created such a great vibe. We really enjoyed the scenic views and the cozy, relaxed atmosphere. A perfect spot for a laid-back afternoon — we’ll definitely be back!
Jasmine M — Google review
I endorsed what has been already said by the other reviewers about this vineyard— beautiful and spacious and well decorated venue, very pleasant. The open view of the vineyard is great! It was a rainy day but it did not spoil the great time at the vineyard! The wine taste, the flight… 5 stars I also tried the 2020 Passeggiata (red): A super soft summer red, meant to be chilled.🍷cheers!
Maria M — Google review
MD wineries generally do not have a great reputation for their wine making, but this place compares with some of the great ones in its sister state of Virginia. Great customer service with friendly service too boot. Highly recommended.

Butler's Orchard

Mentioned on
2 lists
Orchard
Sights & Landmarks
Butler's Orchard is a family-friendly farm offering pick-your-own patches, a kids' play area, hayrides, and a market with a cafe. Visitors can make reservations to pick blueberries, tart cherries, and black raspberries before enjoying refreshing drinks or freshly baked pies at the market. The orchard also hosts kid-friendly outdoor fairs and offers local produce, crafts, and baked goods at their country store. In the fall, it becomes an ideal spot for pumpkin picking.
We had a wonderful time at Butler’s Orchard during the Fall Festival 2025! My child had so much fun that it was hard to leave, even when nap time was calling. There are lots of different activities to enjoy, so plan to stay a while. One thing to know: the pumpkin patch is located across the road from the Market at the entrance (not inside the main festival area). Another tip is that the corn maze and tractor ride are up at the very top of the hill. We almost missed them because we were getting ready to leave. And a special shoutout to whoever designed that corn maze. We were wandering in it for at least 40 minutes, and I’m still not sure we found the fastest way out! We’ve visited Butler’s Orchard at other times of the year and always had a great time. What sets this farm apart is their food — there’s a nice selection at reasonable prices, and during the Fall Festival, even more options are available. Service is quick, which makes it easy to enjoy a meal without losing time for activities. Overall, Butler’s Orchard is a family favorite for us - whether it’s Fall Festival or another season, it’s always worth the trip.
Galina G — Google review
We drove up here on a relatively hot day. We anticipated taking our daughter up here to pick fruit, see animals, and eat apply pie perhaps. But unfortunately none of it happened. You must drive your car to pick all the fruit, you have to come early to get your favorite pie, and the area lacked arrows and assistance to help people get around. Overall, the staff was very friendly, the area was spacious and clean. The market was easy to get around. Prices were OK. The eating area was cozy. I'm not sure if I will be back. Next time we'll probably come a better time.
ML S — Google review
I went to the pumpkin festival today, it's a fun thing to do in family it works for all ages because they have one thing for everyone. They have reasonable prices. I got a whole meal for two people just for $20. Try their lemonade it taste like heaven. Their soft serve Ice-cream is really good too. Everyone is really kind and they love kids. They have more than 15 activities that kids, teenagers, and adults can enjoy. I'm 17 years old and today I had so much fun that I even forgot that I had a phone that's why you can't see all the activities in the photos.
Stephany A — Google review
I’m so happy we booked tickets for the last day of the fall festival. Online booking was easy and they just scan your phone at the gate. Only thing is I wished they had separate lines for prepaid tickets to make it move faster. Plenty of parking. Perfect family outing! Loved the goat feeding options but by the time we got there the goats were nice and full but still adorable. Lots of cool photo opportunities. The hay ride was cool. Very efficient with the multiple tractors. The food was decent but the donuts babyyy! Apple cider donuts were soft and fluffy (fresh). The candy apples were sold out. Definitely a place you want to take your family next season.
Ana R — Google review
Very fun place ! Went with a friend and it was very eventful. There was a corn maze, hay ride, food, and games. There was even a live band where you can sit and eat. They had 2 donkeys there too! Super cute! Definitely recommend going with friends, family, and/or significant other!!
Mars J — Google review
What a disappointment! We wanted to pick apples, but that didn't happen. We bought tickets to the festival online as we thought you had to go pick apples. They only do that on the weekend. Then we went into the "festival". Not everything was open and running. The BBQ place wasn't open, the cider garden wasn't open, and some other kid things like face painting wasn't open either. If you're to charge money for admission, then you need to have EVERYTHING available at the time of opening. It was such a waste of time and money for us. I felt like I would have been bored even if I was a kid. We were maybe going to pick raspberries after everything, but with the poor signage, we had no idea where to go and just left. We'll definitely be skipping this place and finding somewhere better to go in the future.
Lori A — Google review
Our favorite farm and the farm market. Baked pies- like strawberry rhubarb which is hard to find, apple cider donuts, kettle corn, meat, yummy milk, apple sauce, fresh vegetables and fruit.. also very cute kitchen items like tea towels, plates, cups, gadgets.. so much to do so much to get. A must visit place. Best strawberries and apples.
Lara B — Google review
Love coming here with friends and family! The employees are so nice, the fruit and veggies are fresh and delicious. You get to see the farm animals, the fun activities and pumpkin picking! Also yummy apple cider drinks and donut, a lot to experience

Algonkian Regional Park, located in Sterling along the Potomac River, offers 838 acres of outdoor adventure. The park features paved and natural surface hiking trails that wind through wooded areas, open fields, and cliffs with stunning river views. Visitors can stay in rustic winterized rental cabins to enjoy sunsets and sunrises.
10/10 absolutely beautiful. For my college program we meet here for class sometimes. Lovely place to walk trails, hang by the waterfront, and learn about many kinds of trees and plants and wildlife. There are shelters (per reservation only) around the park that are nice for snacking during your walk. I highly recommend this place! It looks huge, I'm sure there is a lot I didn't even see on my visit there.
Maggie J — Google review
First time here. Today there was lots of open parking, but I could see that being an issue on warmer weekends. Great playpark for kids, picnic tables and big green grassy spots to have get togethers. Pavilions, views of the Potomac, boat launch, trails, plenty of trees for hammocking enthusiasts, bathrooms and porta potty options. (Apparently there are also water park options there, we did not confirm this). There's a golf course there too. A little bit of everything for everyone!
Julie M — Google review
Great regional park! Boat ramp, kayak friendly with a good amount of ramp parking. Great trails for walking, running, etc. Lots of wild flora & fauna all around. There are cabins that can be rented, pavilions for picnicking, a golf course (not sure if public or members), and a themed water park (seasonal, extra fee) that offshoots the main park as well. Something for everyone.
Ed V — Google review
Family Reunion My husband and I absolutely loved the cabin that we stayed in on Sept 22-30. The park is so beautiful and we loved being right becide the Potomac river. It was amazing seeing deer wandering around and saw some foxes too! Loved that the place is close to everything and easy access to the metro line to visit Washington D.C. We have plans to return next year! Joe and Gloria Callahan

Algonkian Park in Virginia is a peaceful escape with scenic trails, Potomac River views, picnic areas, and a golf course. Great for family outings, boating, and nature walks. Facilities are clean, though some areas could use better maintenance.

The friendly raccoon, with the injured paw (now healed) is still alive. Not only alive and looking for food but it has a baby. For a moment I thought I was being ambushed when I saw 2 shadows, and 1 hiding in the back. It's willing to "take" bluegills and catfish if you have them around. It's like a pet, just like the squirrel without the tail (burned by the cold winter ice), If it's still alive,

Gorgeous park, great for family and friend gatherings. There is a nice playground for children and tons of hiking trails.

Visitor center
Sights & Landmarks
Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts. The visitor center is the perfect starting point, offering helpful staff and an insightful overview of the battlefield and war history. The museum houses authentic artifacts that evoke the emotions of the battlefields, providing a profound understanding of the past. Visitors can also explore well-marked trails leading to outdoor battle sites even after the center closes.
Really interesting and intriguing. Hard to believe the events that took place there! Beautiful scenery too! Well kept! SO MANY BUTTERFLIES WHEN I WENT, in July! That was awesome! The monuments you can go into are breathtaking! Really neat that you can actually walk up to them and some you can even venture I to! Clean areas. The knowledge was unfathomable if the events that took place there! Everything from that era was well preserved and taken care of respectfully! Very nice. I enjoyed the room with the dome and compass above, with the full room painting! That was amazing and how they blended the painting with actual items lying around was so realistic looking. It was baffling! How they were able to do such a good job making it look almost 3D! Even though the events that took place there happened, there was a sense of Peace, the butterflies prove that.
MJ M — Google review
We stopped in 30 Sept 2025 after engaging a tour guide for a “3 hour tour”, He had so much to tell us, he took 4 hours! Very informative and yet, so much could be said about the battles fought here. The Museum film and Cyclorama painting exhibit cost $40 for two seniors to see. The Cyclorama visit is timed but you can take your time walking the Museum. We visited the gift shop also. Tons of historical books there, along with glassware, magnets, and tasteful knickknacks. Lots of seniors and few school trips at this time of year.
Matt B — Google review
Visiting this place was a very meaningful experience for me. There is so much to explore & learn. The video that is shown at the beginning of the museum tour was very well done, & the diorama experience was indescribable. Highly recommend for anyone interested in U.S. history.
Kelly L — Google review
We bought tickets for the diorama, movie and museum. Great experience overall! The movie was education and well presented, lasted about 15 minutes. The diorama visit is about 15 minutes as well and is worthwhile. The museum is huge, you could spend all day there. The gift shop is great. We left with toy rifles for the boys to do their own reenactment of the battles. The cafe offers delicious options, my only recommendation is they should offer more table for seating. They only had about 4-5 tables and that was not enough.
Aneliya G — Google review
Gettysburg is a phenomenal historical site with more to see than the majority of visitors can get to in a short time. Just my personal practical advice, if you only have one day to visit the battlefield and don't want to hire a licensed guide, then the NPS auto tour is more than adequate. It is well marked, makes 16 stops at all the major highlights, and the audio & video segments do a great job. If you are more of an enthusiast and have 2 (or more) days, I recommend Carol Reardon & Tom Vossler's A Field Guide to Gettysburg. It lays out and thoroughly explains 37 stops. Taking a kind of combo approach, drive the auto tour with the Field Guide in hand. You get the shorter 16 stops, but the Field Guide gives you more depth and information at each spot. Plan on 2 to 4 hours on the battlefield itself and bring along a picnic and plenty of water. There's a lot to think about on this sacred ground. It's hard to stand anywhere in this peaceful, beautiful landscape and imagine the tragic carnage that happened here. But it's almost a spiritual kind of experience to try.
Chris S — Google review
Parking at the visitor center was easy and that's were we recommend you start when visiting. The visitor center is very nice with some great displays, movies, bus your, driving tours, rest rooms and even have a cafe to grab a bite. We did a driving tour using the NPS app which was really very nice to explain and bring the battle and people to life as you look at the fields or hills Give this review a like👍❤️. FYI the budget cuts are not affecting this park. There were plenty of rangers and volunteers to make your visit enjoyable. In talking to the rangers they were all very happy since most of the cuts got rid a dead weight or managers that never talked to the public or helped your experience be better. Let the parks know you like having less overhead and more people making your visit better.
Adventure K — Google review
This was my second time visiting Gettysburg National Park. I was actually camping at Artillary Ridge which was about 5 minute drive. I could have hiked it. There has been a lot of changes. The museum has expanded and there was a special exhibit area. The Cyclorama is now an experience that starts with a film. Information is provided, directional markers have been installed so tou know where you are on the battlefield. The gift shop is nice and the grounds are lovely. You can take a bus tour to visit monunents or take the self guided audio tour. I highly recommend it, so much history.

Coming here was on our bucket list. There are many museums you can visit but this one was the main one we wanted to see. We really enjoyed seeing everything inside. The pictures don’t do it justice but I hope you enjoy. Maybe someday you can come here yourselves.

Visiting this place was a very meaningful experience for me. There is so much to explore & learn. The video that is shown at the beginning of the museum tour was very well done, & the diorama experience was indescribable. Highly recommend for anyone interested in U.S. history.

The Jennie Wade House in Gettysburg is a museum dedicated to the memory of Jennie Wade, a civilian casualty during the Civil War. The house offers exhibits on domestic wartime life and tells the poignant story of Jennie's untimely death. Preserved just as it looked in 1863, each room reflects the sudden shift from normal life during those three days.
Visited this past weekend with my gf and did the Ghost tour. Rachel was our guide and was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot from her. It was pretty cool to actually be there knowing what happened here. We will be back with our kids for sure.

Gift shop was okay. Expensive as to be expected. I've taken the house tour twice. It's no big deal... don't expect ghosts! Just a small historic house. That's it.
Mike H — Google review
To hear and/or read about what happened to this young woman and her family and what they did during the battle is one thing, but to go and see the house, to learn about it fully, to see the bullet holes and everything else, you get a sense of wonder of it all. The tour was very well done and I do recommend it and while it is said of 'no ghost hunting', don't be surprised if something 'strange' happens.

Gettysburg National Cemetery is a solemn resting place for 3,512 Union soldiers and was dedicated in 1863 with Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The area offers a glimpse into the challenging conditions faced by soldiers during the Civil War, carrying heavy loads and enduring harsh elements. Visitors can explore the roughly 3-mile Gettysburg Trail, a paved walking trail that connects the Visitor Center to important battlefield locations, offering serene woodland surroundings and welcome shade on hot days.
Another National Park Service outstanding property. Rich in history and scenic beauty, this is a must visit when in the area. Nice paved parking lots on both sides of the property. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. I had full bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming.

The cemetery is free to visit, and so are the 3 daily guided tours. The history is so moving and it’s easy to get choked up when hearing about everything. I highly recommend the 5:30pm tour followed by Taps at 7pm. (But only if you want to cry.)

I loved seeing the battle field's to sit and think of what happened here. To see our own fighting against our own for a better life for all. Both sides had their reasons. Both sides understood the cost. Now, we live in a world where no one understands the cost of freedom. Now, everyone looks the other way and forgets. I served in 2-2 Infantry for 10 years. A lot of the pictures are of 2-2 Infantry. Dedicated to my fallen brothers.

Water & Amusement Parks
SplashDown Waterpark is a seasonal destination that offers a wide range of water slides, a lagoon, and leisure pool. The park caters to visitors of all ages with its variety of activities. Visitors have praised the professionalism and attentiveness of the lifeguards, who are quick to respond in case of emergencies. While the facility is reasonably priced and well-maintained, some guests have suggested improvements such as adding more seating options and expanding restroom facilities.
Very nice water park. Affordable, clean, safe, and plenty to do. Plenty of lifeguards all over. Forgot your bathing suit, they got you covered. From pampers, kid swimmer pampers, sunscreen, Tylenol, towels, water shoes, they literally have just about everything at their shop. Plenty of food options, and very affordable. We enjoyed a great warm day with our family, absolutely loved the lazy river. Will definitely buy our tickets online next time for no waiting. Although there was a line, the staff is efficient, and the line moved quickly.
Gerardo P — Google review
My family and I had a great time this weekend. It was their first time visiting and they would like to go again. The prices are reasonable the facility is nice and parking is available but you may have to walk a little distance to get to the entrance. Seating was limited. I would suggest more lawn chairs in the back near The Big Kahuna tent. It was difficult finding seating when we first arrived but we eventually found a spot. The bathrooms are small and they needed to be cleaned. If you don’t have to use it don’t. Also there is an area for the kids to play in sand, and it is also has a volleyball net. Lastly, the lines can be kind of long for the slide and food but it moves relatively fast. Overall it was a great experience.
Jas T — Google review
The water park was a great value and lots of fun. The burgers were not great because they used low-quality beef. They also ran out of standard menu items halfway through lunch like fries and chicken tenders. They should plan to stock their kitchen according to their estimated attendance numbers. The lockers were small but convenient. Wish they would open a location closer to Baltimore.

I went today with my 2 grandsons and a friend. They had a wonderful time. Employees were pleasant, water slides were fun and the lazy river was awesome with or without a float. If you’re looking for a great place to spend the afternoon with your kids, I would highly recommend this place This was the first time I had been and almost 40 years
Janette W — Google review
As long as you buy tickets online, get there early, and be the first one in line, the only wait is from when you arrive to opening time. Once open, if you’re first in line, there’s no wait at all if you have online tickets. It gets crowded very quickly. I would like there to be a smaller max capacity. The two largest slides could also use a capacity limit because they’re always crowded and you can spend up to 30 mins on the steps to get up there. The food is good, but is way too overpriced and I don’t think their food is good enough to be that expensive. Another issue is that the bottom of the pool is very rough so pool shoes are highly recommended. Lastly, the water is warm, foul, and the water in the lazy river is very cloudy. Despite all of this, I still think it deserves 5 stars! Most of the park is clean, the place is big, the lifeguards and other people around you are super nice, and they allow toys in the water! As long as you are prepared, it’s guaranteed you’ll have a great time!
Gabriel D — Google review
We purchased tickets online and were able to avoid the line to get in. The park was a great place to spend the day with minimal wait for the water slides. We were able to bring bottles of water in, and we purchased food there. There are different food spots, but we ended up waiting 30 minutes in line at the place we chose. Overall, it's a great place for a very reasonable price. We will visit again.
Dianne — Google review
Had a great time at Splash down , this is a clean and inexpensive place to spend the day . The food was good and the staff was very friendly. Only a 45 minute ride from downtown DC it's a good getaway. Parking was adequate and the wait to get in wasn't as bad as the line appeared. Rule of thumb get there early because they close at 6pm.
Craig C — Google review
I took myself and 4 children to Splashdown on Sunday 6/22/25. The Waterpark itself was really nice when it came to size, and amenities. The price was also reasonable at ranging from $15-20 per person. The reason I gave three stars is, the first issue was they were way over capacity. The lazy river was so packed people were literally bumper to bumper in their rafts. Someone could have easily drowned without a lifeguard noticing under all the rafts. Second reason is around 4 pm on the pool side where you can walk in by the lily pad rope area. Someone had defecated on the side of the pool. I Immediately got myself and my children out of that particular pool, then I told a lifeguard. She went over and saw the stool, looked gross out and said I will tell someone. A half hour later it was still there and no one seemed to care. That is when we decided to leave. While I understand it was a highly busy, overcrowded and an extreme heat day. That is incredibly neglectful and could cause a severe illness.

Visitors can explore five different stops along the driving tour as well as three monuments erected by the Daughters of Confederates.
A wonderful experience. The visitor center 2nd floor museum is worth the trip itself. The park staff was very helpful and informative. The day I visited there were reenactors at the Best Farm. They were also very informative to speak with. A great day altogether.

Interesting place. Not sure why the Visitor Center was closed on a Tuesday afternoon. Drove around to see other areas from the battle. The paper brochure and map found on an outdoor sign gave us an opportunity to see some of the key places.

It is a free battlefield. There are 5 total stops after the visitor's center. The visitor center has a good amount of parking. The museum there is closed right now and should open sometime in October they said. The roads for the stops are gravel/rocks and narrow, so it is important to drive carefully. Each stop of the auto tour has a walk you can do that is a loop. They around 1-2 miles each. Informative signs with what happened at each place. An underrated battle and battlefield I think everyone should check out with how important it actually is.

Nestled in the heart of Historic Downtown Frederick, the National Museum of Civil War Medicine offers a fascinating glimpse into the medical practices that shaped wartime care during one of America's most tumultuous periods. Spanning over 7,000 square feet across two floors, this museum features five immersive exhibits that vividly recreate scenes from Civil War medicine. Visitors can explore life-size dioramas depicting field hospitals and dressing stations, as well as military hospital wards and camp life.
An unexpected gem! Gore. Appendage amputation reenactments. Mummified body parts. Walls oozing with the blood of soldiers. I don’t know what I was expecting! But all of that was basically what I envisioned; so maybe a chamber of horrors! And yet, there was only one limb, a few human bones, and one room about amputations. For the most part, it was a Smithsonian museum style presentation. Filled with large amounts of information, educational placards, sound effects, and ambience. Not what I was expecting! We spent a good three hours. So make sure if you enjoy reading everything, to leave enough time for about four large museum rooms.

The book selection in the gift shop rivals any other museum bookshop I’ve been to. Absolutely stop here if you’re in the area. Side note: there is a parking garage out back which is better than street parking.

This museum is well laid out and informative. The exhibits were fun and educational and did a great job at eroding the belief that surgeons during this period were butchers and primitive. The only change i would like to see is a larger display on the adaptations and advances in medical care during g the time such as more on prosthetics than what is there

What a great place to get exercise, immerse yourself in history, and enjoy nature. There are 2 major trails ranging from 5-6 miles. You can combine them for an entire day walk/hike. They are easy to moderate. There are a few side loops to be able to see more historical structures. There are markers along the way to learn about the significance of each area. It's a history lesson combined with physical activity! I have hiked nearly every inch of this park over the years. This weekend I hiked the First Manassas Trail and the Old Stone Bridge Loop.

A truly moving and educational 5-star experience! The Manassas National Battlefield Park is a phenomenal place to spend the day, and it felt like we were walking right through history. The staff is welcoming and informative, and the visitor center provides an excellent foundation. The highlight of the trip, however, was definitely the guided tour. The park rangers are extremely knowledgeable and bring the area's rich history to life, pointing out iconic spots like the Stone House, the striking statue of "Stonewall" Jackson, and the poignant plaques marking where officers like Brigadier General Bartow fell. Walking past the rows of cannons and along the classic split-rail fences with the wild views was breathtaking. The park has a peaceful atmosphere, but you can feel the incredible history that happened right under your feet. The interpretive signs, like the one about "The Marines Of '61," are also incredibly well-done. Download the NPS app if you want to explore with a self-guided tour—it's a great resource!

Catoctin Mountain Park

Catoctin Mountain Park is a beautiful place to visit, even when the weather is challenging. I recently hiked there, and while the snow-covered trails were stunning, they were also very slippery, which made descending particularly difficult. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear and take your time. Despite the challenges, the winter scenery was worth it—blanketed in snow, the park looked like a winter wonderland. If you're up for an adventure and don't mind a bit of a challenge, it's definitely worth a visit. Just be prepared for the conditions!

There’s a clear map at the entrance showing all the trails, which makes it easy to plan your hike. The park is peaceful, well-maintained, and full of scenic views. Definitely one of the best trail systems I’ve seen recently.

Awesome park to take your pup out for “A Walk in the Woods.” Paisley (dog) and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves doing the Yellow Blaze Trail which was I think roughly 5 miles after crossing the roadway off trail to see the Cunningham Falls. You should definitely visit it if you’re doing this trail! Also, Hog Rock and Blue Ridge Summit Vista have pretty views along the way. :-) Not a difficult trail and is great for couples, families, and pup walks! :-) Happy Trails.

What a way to spend a Sunday morning! We are National Park buffs and love visiting as many as we can. Did not realize the importance of this area to the early way of life. Rangers very friendly and helpful. Store well stocked and the most important thing is it was so clean!

Great areas to hike, beautiful wildlife, birds, etc. We went to Cunningham Falls, and despite the signs all over to stay off the rocks, and don't swim in the water, there were dozens of people - families with LITTLE KIDS - INFANTS - climbing up the falls and swimming in the water. They'll be the first to complain if someone get sick or injured. Other than the lawbreakers, we had a great time. We even saw a Garter snake! (NOT a "gardener snake" as someone pointed out...) We also saw a tree that had apparently been clawed at by probably a black bear. I would love for someone to verify that in my picture!

Catoctin Mountain Park, located in northern Maryland near the town of Thurmont, is a gem for nature lovers, hikers, and history enthusiasts. Managed by the National Park Service, it offers a peaceful escape with a mix of scenic vistas, rich history, and well-maintained trails. The park has a few primitive campsites and rustic cabins, especially at the Camp Misty Mount historic district, which dates back to the New Deal era. There are restrooms, picnic areas, and some parking lots, though they can fill up on weekends. No RV hookups or large campgrounds—this is more a day-use and primitive camping destination. Must visit park for camping and hiking.

Parking can be limiting but overall a great place to hike. Terrain is loose rocks so dress accordingly. Good for dogs but bring plenty of water and be prepared for steep inclines and possible snakes.

Beautiful hike. We went to Cunningham Falls. Spent some time here with our feet in the water while Dani painted with a young girl we met playing in a nearby creek with her grandmom. We need to come back and explore further

Cunningham Falls State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Sizable mountainous open space with a man-made lake & the largest cascading waterfall in the state.
I stayed in a cabin for 3 days for my 16th birthday, absolutely amazing and I had such a great time!! We rented 2 cabins and both were clean, cozy and overall spacious. The mattresses were comfortable and we had no trouble using the firepit outside. Both the moderate and difficult hiking trails were really enjoyable, especially the "difficult" one which was actually quite approachable for me as a first time hiker and there were many beautiful rocks/scenic areas where you could just sit down and enjoy the nature. The falls were absolutely beautiful and easy to climb as well. Everyone I met there was absolutely lovely and so was all the park staff. We also went kayaking and the lake is beautiful, the kayak rental was relatively expensive (around $35 or so for the hour) but the lake was quite big. I recommend going in the morning if you plan to go kayaking, boating or fishing since when we went (around 8am!) there were very few people in the lake and it was much quieter and more peaceful to just sit in the middle of the lake and admire the nature. overall it was an amazing experience and I would definitely visit again!

We visited Cunningham Falls State Park last weekend and had an amazing experience! It’s the perfect spot for weekend activities and quality family time. We stayed in one of the park’s cabins, which were cozy, clean, and well-maintained — a great balance between rustic and comfortable. It made camping with the family super convenient, especially for those who want the feel of the outdoors without pitching a tent. One of the highlights of the trip was hiking the trail to the waterfalls. The hike was scenic, well-marked, and family-friendly. The waterfalls themselves were beautiful and definitely worth the trek. We spent time relaxing by the falls, taking photos, and enjoying the peaceful natural surroundings. Whether you’re into hiking, relaxing by the lake, or just enjoying a cabin retreat, this park has something for everyone. Highly recommended for families looking to disconnect, explore nature, and create some great memories together. We’ll definitely be back!

The park was very clean with plenty of space to camp/picnic around. Parking was a first come first serve so it’s best to come at an early hour. There was an area where you could rent a kayak for an hour which was very enjoyable to really spend some time in the lake!

Quite place on an weekend, trails not too difficult . Serene lakeside. There was no security or any kind of watch person when we went. They have place for Barbecue. Clean washrooms too. Playarea for children is also there. Looks like there's boating ,kayaking facilities there, but it was all closed when we went.

Great place for a hike! We visited in September and did the upper trail to lower trail loop. Did it with my 70 year old fit parents. Took about 1.5 hours. Totally worth it! Saw a frog, a fuzzy caterpillar and a snake Unfortunately for us swimming in the lake was closed in mid September. Weekday and weekend Very well kept

This beautiful State Park boasts waterfalls, a lake and trails. A dip in the lake after hiking the trails to the falls is so refreshing! Bathrooms and changing rooms, picnic tables and shade. Carry out your trash.

This is a magnificent place to be! It was extremely quiet and enjoyed. With endless acres of beautiful mother nature. The creeks and waterways are so lovely and calming. There are several walking and hiking paths. The bathhouses were clean, well stocked, and nicely maintained. As for the staff that I met and talked with. Every one of them was pleasant, kind, talkative, and professional. The downsides are that. The campsites are way too close together! The space between them and around the campsites is all way too open. Aside from fallen branches and leaves, that's pretty much it.
Luke — Google review
Perfect for a walk or a bit of hiking — you can choose between a flat trail or a more challenging hill path, depending on your energy. After about a mile, you’ll be rewarded with a cute little waterfall! Don’t forget to check out the two cozy beaches, South and North beach , on opposite sides. You can rent a canoe for $27 per hour per person, freshen up with available showers, and grab a hot snack from the local stand. Entry is just $3 — totally worth it for some quiet time in nature!

Factory Outlets
Hagerstown Premium Outlets is a charming open-air shopping destination situated just off Interstate 70, only three miles east of Hagerstown. The village-style outlet mall offers a wide array of name-brand stores where shoppers can find apparel and merchandise at discounts of up to 65%. Popular brands like Banana Republic, Coach, Tommy Hilfiger, Kate Spade New York, Guess, and Under Armour are among the many options available.
The hige rating is all due to a kind-hearted man, an uncle who sells bedding between LOFT and COACH stores. We drove away after shopping here. Unexpectedly, the trunk of the car opened when we drove out, and the clothes and luggage in the trunk were thrown out. It was too late when we found it. Fortunately, we met this kind uncle. He packed up our lost items and sent them to North Face according to the shopping invoice, waiting for us to come back to pick them up. We were surprised and touched to get them back. Thank you to this kind man. It’s a pity that I didn’t ask his name at that time. Thank you!!

Few stores and almost few visitors are there. Literally very few stalls in the food court. Not worthy to visit!
Talal Q — Google review
We stopped by back in March on a Friday afternoon and it was completely empty. A lot of stores are closed or empty. Kinda sad to see such a large property look like a ghost town. The food court is also kinda sad. Not a lot of options. The bathrooms are huge but dated and completely empty.
Bbt J — Google review
For premium outlet, I would have to say at least 50% of the stores are closed while the main staples exist, such as Under Armour, Eddie Bauer, Columbia, Nautica, Gap, and Brook Brothers, there are barely any other stores to visit. The food court is even more disappointing with only three options. If I ever come back, it will only be to visit those big namebrand stores for a quick trip and that’s it.
Adam C — Google review
Man I remember when this place was super busy and a well taken care of place. Now it’s sad and getting to be run down. Still has a few decent stores, but it really could use some rejuvenation. Times have changed since I was a kid, and locations that learn to change with them succeed while others that stick to the same old thing don’t.
Caleb G — Google review
Once a shopping destination—now just a sprinkle of stores I revisited Hagerstown Premium Outlets hoping for variety and value, but it’s clear the center has lost its spark. Most of the major brands are gone, and what’s left feels like a scattered mix of smaller stores with little cohesion. The energy is low, and the layout feels dated—like it’s been frozen in time for the past few years. If you’re looking for a full outlet experience, this isn’t it. It’s more of a quick stop than a shopping day. Disappointing to see so much potential go untapped.
Denise W — Google review
Don't make a special trip, most of the stores are empty. Possibly worth your time if you are in the area. An update based on the response from the outlet. I was not saying the stores didn't have merchandise, I was saying most the available spaces do not have tenants and therefore there aren't a lot of stores to shop in.
William C — Google review
Its a nice shopping center, there's different kind of branded store and even thrift store and many more. Plenty of parking space. I just noticed that some stores are closed, maybe because of the pandemic. So sad but I'm sure some stores struggle to keep up the sales.

Nature & Parks
Hagerstown City Park is a longstanding recreational area that boasts various features such as an art museum, shaded picnic zones, and a kids' splash pad. The park also houses a beautiful fountain and a vast pond where visitors can observe geese and fish swimming. Additionally, the park provides benches and tables for people to sit on or enjoy meals with their families. Children will find the playground entertaining as they run around playing.
Visited Hagerstown City Park on Easter evening, and it was the perfect place to pause and take in the beauty. The sunset painted the sky with soft pastel colors over the lake, creating a peaceful, almost magical atmosphere. The view of the Museum of Fine Arts and the surrounding nature brought a sense of calm and connection to history. It felt like the world slowed down for a moment, and I was reminded how important it is to take time for quiet reflection. If you’re looking for a spot to clear your mind and appreciate simple beauty, this park is something special.

Got carried off by 10,000 geese from the local shark pond that I was trying to water-ski across. They dropped me at the art museum which was quite nice of them. Art museum was pleasant too. Afterwards the geese carried me off to an ice cream stand but it was in the middle of Canada, where they made me king of the geese. Perfect 5/7 would recommend again.

We were in the city for a short overnight visit, but were intrigued enough to stop for a stroll through this park. It is an expansive, lovely, well-maintened park, with lots of different areas including playgrounds, a pond, and an outdoor performance venue. It seems like a really great public space with lots to offer!

This park is huge and has play equipment for seemingly all ages. It shows its beauty through every season. When it starts warming up it is always fun to take the kids to feed and visit the ducklings and gosling. I highly suggest a stroll through their paths and parks and around the pond to visit the Art museum there as well. Or maybe stop in when the music filled events can bring your souls joy.

Enjoyed (along with the hundreds of geese!) the beauty of this lovely, well maintained park for the 1st time while visiting Hagerstown. Had no problem getting safe, free parking on a Saturday morning. I was pleasantly surprised that there was more to explore than I expected. The educational info about the historic buildings and surroundings was well done and interesting. Next time I will visit the museums.

We literally stumbled into the park without intention and were wonderfully surprised! There is a great kids sub-park, a huge duck and goose pond, an art museum, a concert gallery, other water features, and an art center, all next door to a train museum. Very handicapped accessible and completely wonderful, and a complete surprise.

Lovely park, you get to interact with the birds and ducks... Might get lucky to feed the fish!! Plenty of space and places to play for the kids. There's an art museum on site, as well as places to grill and gazebos to hold parties

We went rafting with a group of friends and had an amazing experience with River & Trail Outfitters! The entire staff was friendly, professional, and well-organized, making the whole adventure smooth and enjoyable. A special shoutout to our tour guide, Tom (Tommy) — he was incredibly informative, funny, and kept the group both safe and entertained throughout the trip. His energy and knowledge made the day even better. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a fun and memorable outdoor experience. Definitely a trip to remember!

We had an amazing time on our first white-water rafting trip. Being on the water was so peaceful, and the rapids were fun and manageable. (On our next trip, we'll probably go for slightly more challenging rapids.) Our raft guide, Drew, was fantastic. He wanted us to have the best experience possible! We hope to go out on the water with River & Trail Outfitters again soon!

The staff was excellent! Not only did our guide go out of their way to ensure we had a great time, but he also shared some of his historical knowledge of Harpers Ferry. Also, the entire trip was safe and professional. I highly recommend rafting with River and Trail Outfitters, I am certain you will have an excellent time.

It's amazing how many times a stumble upon the Appalachian Trail. From school trips up into Pennsylvania, my friends property near Camp David, MD, crossing the Potomac River from Sandy Hook, MD to Loudoun Co., VA and up the mountain in Harpers Ferry, WV. I've hit spots in 4 states and close to 100 miles from most northern to most southern and, never straight through. It's amazing how many people use the trail and I've never seen any trash during my adventures. I highly recommend checking out your closest part of the trail if you love the outdoors like myself.

Purple Fiddle

Live music venue
Nightlife
Family-friendly music venue, cafe & bar offering live entertainment weekly.
After a 3-day hike at Dolly sods wilderness this was a beautiful welcoming respite! Delicious local craft beer, great live Bluegrass and folk music. The staff welcomed my dog and I who felt right at home on their patio with other friendly folks who had also brought their dogs and offered to watch mine while I ordered. The menu Isn't huge but it is varied and thoughtfully prepared. Vegetarian and vegan options are plentiful as well, in addition to a nicely done and healthy kids menu.

If you're ever in Thomas, WV and looking for the perfect way to spend a summer night, The Purple Fiddle delivers in every way. Tucked in the heart of this charming mountain town, it offered exactly what we needed—cold beer, live music, and that laid-back vibe you can't fake. The atmosphere is rustic, cozy, and full of soul—like stepping into a friend’s front porch jam session. The band was phenomenal, and you could tell this place is passionate about showcasing real, authentic talent. The music spilled out onto the street, and you couldn’t help but tap your foot or jump in and dance. Pair that with a local craft beer (ice-cold, thank goodness—because it was hot out), and you’ve got the recipe for a perfect Appalachian evening. Whether you're a local or just passing through, The Purple Fiddle is a must-stop for music lovers, beer sippers, and anyone chasing a good time. 🌄🍻🎻

Famous venue/bar/ restaurant in these parts! The old wooden floors and tin ceilings add to the cool vibe. Weekdays no music, so enjoyed lunch. Modern menu. I got the World Peace Wrap. Very good. Feels like a local spot that we tourists have invaded. Tee-shirts for sale. Alcohol served. Outside is a large yard with seating. Accessible entrance. Parking out front. Clean bathrooms, but not wheelchair accessible. Everyone welcome!

My husband, two pups, and myself had always heard such amazing things about the Purple Fiddle, and we were excited to visit. Our VERY friendly pup was turning 3-years-old, so we thought it would be a good excuse to get out of town for a few days. We purposely chose a rental house that was within walking distance to the Purple Fiddle as we planned to spend every evening there for dinner and listening to music. When we walked down to their facility, the band was already playing, and actually stopped to admire our gentle giant, who was proudly wearing his birthday hat. When we walked to the side entrance, we noticed it had a combo lock on it preventing us from entering. My husband went inside to inquire about how they wanted the pups to get inside, and much to our surprise, they said the dogs had to enter through the (very small) "doggy door." It was basically a cut out in the fencing on the locked door, and was entirely too small for anything more than a medium sized dog to gain access through. We asked if they could unlock the combo lock and allow us to open the door, but were told that they could not due to the fact that they serve alcohol. This all seemed rather strange to us, but the ladies were nice enough, so we hopped in the car and went into town to Milo's each of our three nights in town instead. This was a HUGE bummer because the entire reason we visited this town was to experience the iconic Purple Fiddle. If you plan to visit the Purple Fiddle and have a dog small enough to utilize their strange doggy door, make sure you have a second person to help navigate their weird system. Someone will need to stand guard of the doggy door to ensure your pup does not run right back out before you walk through the restaurant and make it out to the patio. I suppose that you could always have your dog go through the doggy door, stick your arm through the door to retrieve the leash, and tie it to the fence, and then hurry through the restaurant to get to the patio... However, the restaurant is right along the road, so what would happen if your pup were to free the leash from the fence and run into the road while you were making your way through the restaurant? What if you were already seated at a table and someone's dog freed themselves from the fence and instead of going back out the doggy door, came to you and your dog already seated at a table? I have so many questions/concerns regarding this procedure.

Hovatter’s Wildlife Zoo

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Native & exotic animals can be seen at this family-friendly destination with all-ages activities.
This zoo is very clean and well taken care off. My great nephews had such fun feeding the animals. Buy the bags of food and have fun! The goats are hilarious. My favorite is feeding the giraffes and going in the bird cage. Watching the giraffes tongue come out and circle the carrots is a thrill! Going in the bird cage and having the birds land on you can make you feel like a Disney princess. Heads up! Some kids don’t appreciate this experience. 😊 I thought it was great fun! Putting the food down the tubes and watching monkeys, camels and deer come over to the fence is just delightful. Seeing bears, cougars and tigers is always cool! These you can’t feed. Just observe. I highly recommend this zoo as a day out with your littles. It’s a bit of a walk so a stroller is helpful for little ones who may get tired. The newest addition is flamingos! As you turn into the road to the zoo look around in the fences. There are kangaroos, emus and other large animals. The zebras are down over the hill from the parking lot. It is a fun experience. Definitely buy bags of food! Feeding the animals is fun!
Crystal F — Google review
We had Hovatter's Wildlife Zoo nearly to ourselves yesterday and it was lovely! For $48, we bought two adult tickets, all the feeding options and extra carrot sticks. In total, we spent about 2.5-3 hours walking around at our own pace, and it was a really enjoyable time. The animals appear well fed and cared for, and they certainly know humans are permitted to feed them. The signage is clearly marked as well so you'll know which animals are allowed which feed. We loved all the animals! The parakeet experience was a riot, covered with birds instantly. I don't recommend it for small children as the birds get under-foot and children may get scared, leading to potential injury of the birds. It's better suited for older kids and adults. Giraffes, camels, goats, deer and watching the porcupines was really fun. The hyenas were also interesting to see in person. I hope the predators like the big cats are getting adequate exercise and stimulation in the enclosures, that's something I always think of in zoo settings. I do wish the staff that were around said a friendly hello or waved. Totally understandable they're working, but we were pretty much the only people there and a nice greeting would have been appreciated. The gentleman at the front admission desk was really friendly and polite. The grounds are clean, restrooms out front are open and have soap so you can wash up before and after interacting with the animals so everyone is safe. Plenty of parking is available.

Took my 4 year old son and he loved this place, I was very pleased with the variety of animals and plan on visiting again as my son has said he would like to go again. We had a great time for a 4 1/2 hour round trip. They have a decent little gift shop as well. Take your littles and let them enjoy animals.

We went as part of the school's 1st grade field trip. It's not overwhelmingly big about two to three hours is all we needed. We were able to purchase a variety of different foods for the different species you were able to feed. The displays had signs telling what you could feed to who. All of the children and adults had a great time. In my opinion, the gift shop was quite affordable. We got two stuffed animals (a 6 ft snake and a monkey in a tiger costume), a puzzle, and two other items and spent about $60. It was really an awesome day!

We love coming here! Staff is friendly, site is clean and well maintained. They continue to make great updates! Love the addition of the flamingos! No animal pics because you can’t do them justice. Great view from the overlook though!

I had just visited the Pittsburgh, Pa zoo a couple weeks prior and wowowowow what a difference! Hovatters Zoo was Phenomenal!! From the entry, visiting all the AVAILABLE AND PRESENT ZOO ANIMALS, to the restrooms, parking and exiting, I was impressed!! The animals were out and very active!! We saw every attraction and interacted with each one, except the sleeping Grizzly, but he WAS VISIBLE!! We have taken my Grandson there every year for his birthday and it just keeps getting better! I was even able to walk out the door with a blown Ostrich egg (rainbow color)!! I now display that beautiful egg on my fire mantel!! What a topic for discussion up against my caribou rack and deer skin!! I WILL DEFINITELY RETURN!!
Susan H — Google review
Nice zoo for its size! You can feed almost all the animals (you must purchase the food from the zoo, so I think it's good for the animals) and you can get very close to the enclosures. Clean and reasonably well maintained.

Fun little place to see, touch, & feed wild animals. Can buy stuff to feed the alpacas, goats, deer, camel, giraffe, monkeys, pigs. These animals are friendly & come up to see you. The big cats (lion & tiger) stayed hidden today which was a bummer, but the bears & hyenas were out & playful. The parakeet house is definitely a unique experience (beware they do poop on you sometimes)!

Botanical garden
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, located in Schenley Park, is a horticultural paradise featuring a Victorian greenhouse and various botanical gardens. The complex has been recognized for its sustainable efforts, with three of the greenest buildings in the world on its campus. These include the Center for Sustainable Landscapes (CSL), Nature Lab at Phipps, and Exhibit Staging Center (ESC).
We were there on a beautiful September day, when they had their Jungle Quest summer flower show! What a joyful day and a great time for families with kids. My daughter loved the tropical plants and blooms and was excited to search for the toucan perched on top of the foliages. She loved playing in the areas designated for children and loves learning about the different species of plants and animals that live in these environments. We spent at least 3 hours there touring and visiting the gift shop. The best part is having lunch at the nearby park.

On a beautiful sunny afternoon, my dad, my husband, and I decided to explore Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. First and foremost, the parking situation is absolutely atrocious! We drove around for probably about 15 minutes, just looking for a spot before we finally managed to find one about half a mile away. I think with it being located so close to two university campuses, parking is never good here. The terrible parking situation aside, this place is absolutely beautiful! The variety of plants and various vegetation in beautiful arrangements was definitely something to behold. We had such a wonderful time, exploring the exhibits and even had fun looking for the hidden toucans in the various rooms. Such a pleasant afternoon and definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in Pittsburgh.

Phipps Conservatory is an absolute masterpiece. As an educated plant collector and a partner with a degree in horticulture, we came in with high expectations—and Phipps exceeded every one of them, earning a 10/5 rating from us. The level of thought and care that has gone into every single space is breathtaking. Each room is a uniquely curated world, from the stunning orchid displays to the thoughtful tropical collections. The plants are not only healthy and vibrant but are presented with an artistry that makes it clear this is a place run by people who are truly passionate about their craft. We spent hours wandering through the exhibits, constantly discovering new, fascinating details and unique specimens that held our attention. The Phipps experience is a testament to what a botanical garden can be when it's treated as a living work of art. It’s not just a collection of plants; it’s an immersive, educational, and inspiring journey. We can't recommend it highly enough to anyone who appreciates the beauty and science of the plant world."

Adding my 5 star review into the mix because this place was amazing. Beautiful botanical displays of all shapes and sizes all under these magnificent victorian glass greenhouses. You will feel like you were magically whisked off to London or Paris for the afternoon. Worth the visit to escape the madness and chaos of the world around you. Today I needed a nice, calm, relaxing, warm, inviting stroll through a garden and I was glad I stopped by. Thank you to everyone, especially Barbara keeping us going left and on the tour. 😎😎

Really cool experience for those interested in botanical gardens. Well worth the price of admission. Parking can be a tad tough to find on the street so be sure to plan ahead. Plenty of exhibits inside with rooms dedicated to rainforests, chrysanthemums, and ferns. My favorite was the cactus room!

I’ve been to several large botanical gardens, but the Phipps absolutely blew me away! My dad and I spent several hours walking around and I left feeling inspired and having learned a lot. This is an absolute must-visit, even if you’re only in Pittsburgh for a day or two.

What a wonderful experience! We've been here many times through the years and its always enjoyable. The Fall flower show was especially beautiful, and a treat to stroll from one area to another. I look forward to the next time here. We did learn if you go first thing in the morning (9:30), parking is readily available.

The theme for the Phipps Conservatory's 2023 Winter Flower Show and Light Garden was: Garden Railroad: The miniature train ride was titled "Pennsylvania Through the Four Seasons." It was one of my most enjoyable rides, a reminder of winter 2023, and I'm looking forward to what the theme will be for winter 2025. It's a perfect place to share with family and friends, and if you want to enjoy a solo ride to reconnect with yourself, it's also a great place.

One of the most beautiful ball parks. If you’re in are coming here do not forget the stadium is outside and many of the seats are in the sun! Catch a day and night game so you can see the skyline during both times of day. You’ll be walking along the Roberto Clemente bridge and the view of the bridges from here are excellent. So many good photo ops. Highly recommend catching a game here!

PNC Park is hands down one of the best ballparks in the country! Getting there is incredibly easy – it’s just a short walk from downtown Pittsburgh, and the area around the stadium is very walkable. Entry into the park was smooth and hassle-free, which made the whole experience even better. The ballpark itself is beautiful with plenty of concessions available throughout. As expected at a major league park, food and drinks are on the pricey side, but the variety of options makes it worth it. The views are absolutely spectacular – you get an amazing backdrop of downtown Pittsburgh and the river, which adds so much to the game-day atmosphere. Even if your seats aren’t the best, PNC Park has plenty of areas to move around and take in different perspectives of the game. From the outfield concourses to open standing areas, every angle seems to offer a great view. Overall, the combination of easy access, great amenities, and one-of-a-kind views make PNC Park a must-visit for any baseball fan or visitor to Pittsburgh.

The stadium has good history, atmosphere. Easy to walk to from nearby hotels. Very clean, staff friendly and accommodating. This was the only stadium that the usher wiped down my seat so far. We've been to several. Nice area, worth the trip. It was kind of confusing to walk around inside the stadium to check it out. Before we sat in our seats.

This is my favorite ball park. We travel the country just to see baseball stadiums. This is a great place. The view... the people. MLB has to do a better job with the food but the prices are below average and if you go when the gates open drinks were on happy hour prices. The ushers were great. This is the one ballpark that you want to sit higher up on the first base line so you have a great view. Normally I like to sit as close as I can to the field but the view is worth the sacrifice and the tickets are way cheaper. Take in as many games as you can while you're there.

Calling yourself the Best Ballpark in America takes some big ones. Being an SF Giants fan, I might have to disagree. I attended a Sunday afternoon game here, was a rather warm day, but my seats were soon in the shade and I was able to enjoy the rest of the game. The views are quite stunning, it’s a perfectly situated ballpark. My only complaint was that the concessions weren’t as special as the park.
Dennis P — Google review
The best baseball views in the country. The concourses are open and have lots of food and drinks available. Large bathrooms, easy to find seating. The exterior has lots of foor and bar options and the walk over the Clemente bridge makes for a great outing.

Best ballpark in the world with the best view of Pittsburgh! The employees are all very friendly- everyone at security, to the elevator operators or the vendors all make you feel immediately welcomed and seem very proud to work there. Be prepared to pay a lot for parking which is anywhere from $25-$40 on game day. The lots fill up quickly, so be prepared for a walk from the parking lots or garages surrounding the stadium. Food prices are also outrageous but there’s a lot of choices. I ordered the a slice of “world-famous” Caliente pizza which was huge and equivalent to two slices and cost $12 a slice. It was very good and also very greasy! All in all, if you’re a baseball fan, add this ballpark on your list to visit…you won’t be disappointed!
Tricia P — Google review
This is a beautiful park. It's clean and the staff were all friendly. Even the fans were kind and helpful. The surrounding area is nice and felt safe both before and after the game. There are a lot of great eateries and attractions around the stadium. The whole package makes for a great experience.

It serves as the home ground for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football teams. Whether you're a dedicated fan or just there for the vibrant atmosphere and classic concession snacks, attending a game at this iconic venue is an experience not to be missed.
Stadium Tour: Incredibly well organized and worth the nominal fee charged for this privileged experience. Ran on time, used all 90 minutes promised, received so much history and learned about the NFL’s growth in technology too. Amazing to be in the locker rooms and being able to walk on the field; Steelers Nation’s hallowed ground. Jim was a phenomenal, passionate, patient tour host who had the perfect balance of knowledge, humor and the ability to keep all age groups/physical capabilities engaged. Without exaggeration, it was perfect!

Sunday 10/12/2025 Steelers Acrisure stadium I took my daughter to her first NFL game! We are loyal Steelers fans! I’ve noticed a lot of settle changes in the remodels that they have done from the changeover from Heinz Field prior to 2022! It is still very family atmospheric and electrifying! I’m absolutely astonished how clean it was for the volume of people that were in attendance for this big rivalry home game against the Cleveland Browns! I want to think of everyone that was able to make this experience very special impossible for my daughter I recommend anybody even if you’re not an NFL fan or Pittsburgh Steelers fan to visit the new Acrisure stadium it is home to the Pittsburgh Panthers as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers and they also host tours in addition to other events as well, which you can check on their website! I rate the overall experience five stars, but I would give it the whole galaxy if I could! Absolute perfection!

Wasn't too impressed by the numerous daylight games I've been to here, but Sunday night games have a great atmosphere and energy that make them pretty fun. The food is definitely pricey, though that’s expected for an NFL stadium. The biggest downside has consistently been the lines, both for the restrooms and for food. It’s not unusual to wait 15 minutes just to use the restroom during the game, and I can’t imagine how bad it gets at halftime. I will say, the line to enter the stadium through security was significantly quicker than my last visit, which was a plus. Overall, it’s not a top 10 NFL stadium, but it’s serviceable.

Omfg what a huge experience we've had today and not to mention the Steelers pulled a win today against the Cleveland Browns!! Our seats was section 135 row B, behind the Steelers!! I will add one more photo we got a signature from #41 Wilson (was hoping for Watt and Rogers🥰 but no!). Very sweet man to sign it!! We are definitely coming back but next time sitting in front row!! The drinks for a can of beer was $16. I literally took sips that i should added a nipple cause it took me through the game!!😂 The prices for the tickets was steep but seeing my family's faces enjoying the game was so worth it!!🥰 as always LETS GO STEELERS!!!❤️💯🏈🎊

The absolute best time of our life. We spent our anniversary for a Ravens Game Vs our Steelers 10 years ago. Having grown up my whole life in Dallas, as a Steelers fan it was amazing. So here we found ourselves wanting to experience it again for our anniversary. The stadium and fans did not disappoint. Looking forward to our next trip to Pitt. Hope it doesn't take 10 years!

The staff there was very friendly and letting us know where our seating was. I had a great experience in my first Steelers game. My girlfriend brought me tickets for my birthday. It was great even though I'm a New Orleans saints fan by heart, but I have become a Steelers fan.

First this last Saturday for the Pitt/ND football game. Prepaid parking across from the stadium. Great location and views, concession stands and selection was great. No ushers and very limited help to find gate and seats. This created a lot of movement etc. lots of standing in No Standing areas by stairs. Showing its age. Inside beer sales for a college game not a good idea!

The Duquesne Incline in Pittsburgh offers a delightful ride on a beautifully restored wooden cable car, providing fantastic photo opportunities of the city's skyline and surrounding vistas. This historic mode of transportation has been running for almost 150 years and is a must-see attraction in Pittsburgh. Visitors can enjoy spectacular views from both the cable car and the observation deck at the top station, where there are also exhibits detailing the incline's history and its significance to Pittsburgh.
Very beautiful and historic place. The incline has been running since the 1800's. Its been a must see location in Pittsburgh for many years. My son and I went for our 1st but not last visit. The views of the city are spectacular. Many different ways to get great photos. On the cable car and at the top on the observation deck. At the top there are lots of exhibits that outline some of the history of the incline and cars. It also depicts interesting history of Pittsburgh. It is so cheap that a family could afford this fun and educational excursion. Ill definately be back with more of my family. Take cash and exact change. A round trip for 2 adults is $10. They are friendly and nice enough to let you go ahead and ride. You can get change at the top. Either from the gift shop or an ATM.

I enjoyed this funicular side trip. The view at the top was nicest part of the trek. Crossing the street from the parking lot felt like a game of Frogger. Up top there’s a few touristy things to see, but not much. I’m biased because I’m comparing this with the many I’ve done in the EU. Overall it was a nice side adventure, but not much to write home about.

Ticket prices r great and it’s a really cool experience. It’s old time feel to it which is cool it’s like u stepped back in time which I always love that feeling. The only reason it’s 4 stars is because when we went their was a group of rowdy teens playing around in the car and shaking it the whole way up the hill making it a little scary to say the least and the staff did nothing about it. But we will definitely be returning again

I didn't enjoy my visit for several reasons: 1. You have to pay for parking, which costs $5 for 2 hours. 2. I came with my wife and kids (13, 10, and a baby in a stroller). It was very hot, and we all felt tired. We had to wait in a long line to buy tickets, and they only accept exact cash. 3. The staff were rude and unhelpful, with one lady shouting instructions through a microphone. 4. The gift shop at the top was small and sold trivial items. This place needs updating. They should accept credit card payments, have a website for advance ticket purchases, and add air conditioning—it was unbearably hot.
Ali A — Google review
Make sure you have exact change in cash! $2.50 each way so $5 per person. No change or credit cards here. Great view of Pittsburgh and some cool spots to check out at the top of Mt Washington

Ride the cable car At Duquesne Incline and see the best views of downtown Pittsburgh So whenever you see pictures of Pittsburgh, I am sure you are looking it downtown with and cable car in the foreground. it is easily one of the best things to do in Pittsburgh. From the cars, there are great views out over the city. Once used to transport workers all the way back since the 1800s. they are still using two original 1877 cable cars, the Duquesne Incline is a working museum, with the upper station providing photos and displays on the history of the incline. at the top, you can also see the working mechanism, wheel, and all. I don't know if it is the norm, but there was a guide in our cabin and he gave a brief idea about incline history, and how it come into the picture. Duquesne Incline was rescued and restored by a group of local residents in 1963 and still delights residents and visitors with its original, elegant, wooden cable cars Parking: $10 and that's valid for 24 hours. Parking is more expensive than tickets which are just $5. You don't pay at the counter, you put the exact amount in a cylindrical box (nobody checks what you are putting in the container). a counter lady comes in a while and shoves it with a stick. i have never seen a system like this. if you want to experience a slice of the city’s long history, go for it.
Sanjay G — Google review
Rode the incline up and down as part of an excellent sightseeing tour offered by Molly's Trolleys. There is a panoramic view at the top of Pittsburgh from the north side. The ride is in a no-frills vintage car and there are antique photos in the waiting area.
Barb ( — Google review
The ride is worth the wait. The view up top is good, but the ride from the from the back of the car is really unique. It is shaky and is not smooth, which made it a fun ride.

Great selection of full-auto weapons. Friendly staff that ran a safe range. Would defiantly visit again, well worth the 2.5-hour drive.

It's a great place to go and test out different guns you don’t typically use or see. The only thing I would add since I am not familiar with guns by looking at it, is have labels in front of the guns so I know what I am choosing. The staff were professional and friendly. The owner was very nice and taught us a few things about the guns. Highly recommend this place.

Went with a friend and had a blast. We did the $250 package. It was very fun. We also added on the belt fed machine gun and the 50 cal. Shooting full auto guns is very fun.

My brother and I had a great time at WCMG, very professionally operated range. Expect to get at least the belt fed add on, and if you have never fired a .50 rifle, spend the money. They are 100% worth it.
