Valley of the Rogue State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Recreation area with campground, yurts, a boat ramp & 3 miles of riverfront for fishing.
Super cool, clean campground. There are plenty of places to visit nearby. I loved staying here, and it was fairly priced. Went down to the river plenty of times; there are plenty of areas for walking and also taking your dog on walks. Everyone was friendly and professional.
Supreme S — Google review
Very nice campground, big spaces, clean bathrooms and showers (showers are free for campers). Great walking and bicycling trails that go into the small towns of Rogue River and Gold Hill. Couple negatives, our site was very dry and buggy and all the picnic tables in the park need to be replaced, they are super old and brittle and give splinters like crazy. Use at your own risk.
Carl O — Google review
We loved our week at Valley of the Rogue State Park! Site E8 was perfect—level, spacious, and right along the river. The paved trail that runs directly from the campground into the town of Rogue River was such a highlight—we explored it on e-bikes and loved how charming the town was with its restaurants and shops. Showers were spotless, staff were friendly, and the campground felt well cared for. Between hammock time, smoking meat, salads, and playing with the dogs, this stay was exactly what we needed. We’d happily come back again!
William B — Google review
Loved our stay here. Beautiful park. Can't beat the price. Our dogs really enjoyed their walks along the river. The I-5 can be a bit noisy, but we were close to the river so not a problem. The staff here is super layed back and friendly. Definitely will be back!
Tom S — Google review
The most popular Oregon state park by the number of visitors. A lot of visitors seem to be short term stays during the week since it is right off the freeway with easy on and off and close to the Oregon/California border. This park is located right on the Rogue River between Grants Pass and Medford. The sites are spaced apart and offer sun and shade. They're multiple hiking and biking trails as well. This location could also be used as a home base for a trip to Crater Lake and multiple wineries and tasting rooms as well as canoeing or kayaking the Rogue. I would also make a trip for a jet boat ride on Rogue. Numerous small towns around to discover like Jacksonville.
Don L — Google review
5 Stars unless it's late August. Grounds are nice, well thought out, well maintained. Front gate Rangers were friendly, cordial and, professional. Camp hosts were friendly and helpful. We were there for 10 days, the first three were 100 degrees. Yellowjackets were insane. We had a screened gazebo so that helped a great deal.
Martin C — Google review
We reserved a Yurt for one night and it was perfect. There is enough beds to comfortably sleep 5 people (two fulls and a twin) and there would be enough room on the floor to bring your own sleeping equipment. There was a light and a space heater that made it very comfortable. The only reason I made this review 4 stars is because of the camp’s proximity to the highway, that resulted in pretty loud highway noises.
Elaina F — Google review
Love this park. We camped four 2 weeks in our RV. Right on the Rogue River, camp hosts and park service employees were friendly and always kept the park clean. Highly recommend for day use or overnight stay.

Orange Torpedo Trips Rogue River

Raft trip outfitter
Tours
River Rafting & Tubing
Orange Torpedo Trips Rogue River has been a staple for adventure seekers, offering exhilarating whitewater rafting experiences on the Rogue River and other stunning Southern Oregon rivers for over 50 years. Their trips are well-organized from start to finish, ensuring that guests have an unforgettable experience. While there may be occasional communication hiccups regarding group sizes, the dedicated guides rise to the occasion, providing exceptional support and camaraderie among rafters.
Absolutely amazing family vacation. Some of the best views and company ever. JP, Matt, Artesia and Camilla were the best. The food was amazing and Artesia got us the best camp sites. Can’t recommend them enough for the 4 day Rogue trip!!
Lila Y — Google review
Super experienced outfitter that knows the Rogue forward and back, in and out. Why? We were w 2 veteran-status guides who could do this blindfolded, hands tied, and spun around 20 times, Hunter & Ben. Everything felt in control, they made all the logistics work w/o any need for us to even think, and ensured everyone in the party had shared experiences in the paddle raft, inflatable kayak, and in the water. Both are middle school teachers and you can tell based on their listening and desire to contribute and have their “students” (us) get as much as we wanted out of it. Guides were great. Itinerary. 3 days lodge based Rogue, about 40 miles (Strava’d mileage), w mix of class 2-4 rapids. Lots of mixed speed stuff throughout: rapid, then calm water, then rapid, then calm. We had 2 kids (10, 14) + 1 adult in the raft and had enough horsepower to get us thru. Nights were at lodges. The one at BlackBar was def welcome over a tent, but was hot and pretty basic (I liked it as having a touch of simplicity was welcome). 2nd night was at Paradise and it basically is that, esp after the first place. New fresh wood, clean, bugless, electricity whenever u need, cabin had full private bathroom and 3 beds (2 singles + 1 Queen). Great experience for families. Would def use Orange Torpedo again. Only change we might make for the next adventure is the river, where we may search for higher class, more technically demanding and fewer still-water bits. Or maybe do an inflatable kayak trip - it was so fun and liberating! But the guides were tops, wouldn’t change at all, and their students are lucky to have them.
Stephen C — Google review
Just did a 3-day lodge trip! It was so amazing! Stayed at Black Bar Lodge & Paradise Lodge. Both were great and the food was awesome! The guides with OTT are very experienced and a lot of fun! I highly recommend this trip and can’t wait to do it again next year!
Carie W — Google review
Had a great half day trip doing Nugget Falls. Now we can’t wait to do more rafting! Plus it sparked our interest in returning to kayak the Rogue. Highly recommend the tour company. Friendly folks at every stage. Great guide. He made the trip feel easy and there was some crazy water to navigate. Tons of fun.

9 years ago we drove down from Seattle and met up with our Oregon friends at Orange Torpedo and did our 1st rafting trip on the Rogue River. This trip as expected last weekend, did not disappoint. We had an amazing time, great trip with Orange Torpedo. Absolutely loved our guide, Will, very personable and knowledgeable... Couldn't have had a better experience, it just got better !
Jane J — Google review
I have rafted with many different companies around the country, and this is without doubt the best. We did a 6 day row your own with them on the Main Salmon in mid June as we didn’t get a permit. Erik was incredibly accommodating with all the logistics (we rented rafts from them as well), always easy to reach and very helpful with all the questions. Plus the pricing was very affordable. The trip was amazing. Ryan, Tristan and Henry were fantastic. They got us all the best camp sites, showed us all the lines, the best hikes, the secret spots. We couldn’t believe how good the food was: they are masters of the dutch oven, with cinnamon rolls, cherry pie, and chocolate cake, and grilling steaks, fish, and barbecued chicken. The breakfast game is strong: eggs, burritos, french toast, sausages, and hash browns. It was a huge relief not having to do all the cooking and set up and to have their local knowledge to help keep us safe. They were so much fun to be around; we laughed a lot. Whether you are doing a regular or row your own, I highly recommend OTT. I’m sure all their river trips are great although I will always have a soft spot for the Main Salmon. Thanks guys.🙏
Dan H — Google review
What an adventure! We rafted/kayaked the lower Salmon, 3 night/4 days and it was one of my favorite trips I have ever done. I highly recommend OTT. From booking to the very end it was all very well organized. Our guides (Ethan, Tristan, & Noah) were so amazing and so fun! The meals were outstanding and they were so good about telling us all sorts of facts and info about the area as we rode the river. The beauty of this section of the Salmon river can't even be captured in photos. Plus we also saw a lot of wildlife - river otters, golden/bald eagles, and mountain goats. This was our very first time doing something like this and we would definitely do it again through OTT.

Amazing trip. Everything about it...hike, food, lodging, scenery. Our guides Adam and Dustin took great care of us!!! Lots of great memories to take with me.

We LOVED our half day rafting adventure down the Rogue River with Todd. We felt safe, informed and just had a delightful time in general. One of our kids went in the kayak much of the journey and even though he didn’t have a ton of experience, I felt like Todd gave clear, excellent direction that made me feel safe as a parent and that his safety was the priority and clearly cared that he had a great time too. Todd shared his knowledge and information about the river and the area, as well as just enjoying the company of the group and some quiet time to enjoy the ride. Also, the lunch was delightful - a right-sized buffet with meatloaf, bbq chicken, Mac and cheese, cookies, farm to table salad, fruit, chips and more.
Sarah — Google review
Wow! Our team was Adam, Abby, Mike & Tim. Great crew! Very accommodating, sharing tips & history, and great cooks. I would definitely do this trip again. They made our visit to The Rogue River unforgettable.

We had the BEST day rafting the Rogue-and our guide Dan made it unforgettable! He was fun, energetic, and made sure we always felt safe while finding adventure and beauty around every bend. Dan shared so many interesting facts and stories—things we never would’ve thought to ask about! His knowledge and passion really made the trip special. Highly recommend this experience—and if you can, request Dan!

What an amazing trip down the Rogue River (Wild and Scenic) The guides, Soren, Rip & Maynard were exceptional. I cannot put into words how much they made this trip memorable. The food was outstanding. The help they provided for my blind wife was above and beyond great service.
Hank H — Google review
My wife, teenage son, and I recently did a full day guided trip on the Rogue River. We can't say enough about our experience, which was overwhelmingly positive. Our guide, Todd, was outstanding. Solid training on safety in and out of the boat, while also having lots of fun. Todd's stories about the history, ecology, and other knowledge of the river, is locked in our memories. He was kind and attentive to all of our needs, while also challenging us and teaching essential skills. Our multi course lunch, cooked by Rob, was delicious, beautifully arranged, and plentiful. The time at the lodge was relaxing and scenic. We are now hooked and are hoping to do an overnight trip next summer. Thanks again!
Adam N — Google review
Highly recommend Morrison’s! Staff members were super fun, knowledgeable, and professional. Our guide Dan took great care of us and made sure we had a great time. We felt safe the whole trip. Our experience rafting the Rogue is now a core memory; not to mention the incredible food and hospitality!
Caitlin M — Google review
I have a group of friends who do hiking trips together every few years, and this year we picked Morrisons Rogue River hike with support from guides on rafts. Booking the trip was relatively straightforward, but Morrisons highly encouraged us to do trip insurance because they don't offer refunds, which should've been the first red flag. Before I go too far, I do want to give a huge shout out to our guides Drew, Adam, and Johnny. They were amazing, and if I were rating just them, this review would be 5++ stars. They were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely cared about us and our hike. The rest of the Morrison's staff...not so much. There was an active wildfire in the area before we started the hike. We talked to Morrison's several times in the days leading up to the trip (before we flew out) and even asked about rebooking the trip for a different time, when the forest in the area wasn't on fire. We were assured that even though they were planning a few modifications to our itinerary (i.e. at least one day of rafting instead of hiking), they were confident that it would be a wonderful trip. Fast forward to the end of day 2 of our trip...and they had to cancel the rest of the 4-day hike due to safety concerns and, ultimately, a mandatory evacuation. To be clear, I'm not upset that we were pulled out of the woods, as that was an obvious safety decision. I'm mad because we specifically asked about rebooking for different dates and were told no. Morrison's got us back to their main lodge the following morning, at which point they considered themselves done with us. There was no refund, no help finding rooms for the night, and the last lodge we were in literally wouldn't even let us use the bathroom in the hour we were waiting for vans to get us back to safety. Morrison's did at least send us all an official email about the trip cancellation so that we could share that with our travel insurance (if we'd purchased it) to try to get a refund, but that was about it. Morrisons also made the guides tell us, rather than having anyone higher up in the company talk to us. From what we can tell, they also didn't do anything to help their guides (e.g. helping them find lodging) once the trip was canceled. I will also add that I'm vegetarian, and although there was a lot of very tasty vegetarian food available, vegetarian protein was extremely scarce. For dinner the two nights we hiked (~9 mi on day 1 and 15 mi on day 2), there was no source of vegetarian protein for me to eat. (The gluten free and dairy free people fared much better.) It would've been so easy to roast a portobello mushroom the way they roasted salmon, or to do some kind of meat substitute when they did ribs (they did have meat substitute at the lunches, and eggs or veggie patties at breakfast). I had brought some protein powder with me, but not enough to make up for dinners without protein. My friends ended up giving me the protein bars they'd brought for themselves to try to make up for the dinners. To Morrison's: please consider all macronutrients (carbs, fat, AND protein) when planning meals for your guests! Overall, I would absolutely go back to the river with any of the guides, but I'll never use Morrisons again, and I recommend that you don't either.

Wildlife Images Rehabilitation and Education Center

We loved that it was so informative. You're seeing the ones who are hurt physically and /or by having human interaction where they come to rely on humans. The saff are out and about, so you can easily ask questions. I was very happy to see a school field trip arrive . I would recommend this for everyone.
Paula M — Google review
Wildlife Images does an amazing job of keeping the animals taken care of. The enclosures are clean and you can tell are maintained by staff that care about the animals and the work they do. Our absolute favorite tenant there was Gilbert the 1 year old Grizzly Bear. He was the absolute sweetest bear, and loved to be watched by the humans. We walk away to see the other animals, and then we would come back and say his name and he would come running to say hi. He showed us his toys and how he can climb trees. He played and splashed in his water pool and loved his giant green kong toy. The birds were just as cool to look at and there was the silkiest badger making all kinds of noises at us. Probably telling us to get lost and stop staring at her. Lol. Overall it was a great day, and Wildlife images we will definitely be back!
Amber — Google review
Wonderful rehabilitation center that makes a positive impact on the area's wildlife 💚 There's tons of information posted around the park, showing their incredible work. If you hang around long enough, you will see the handlers feeding and interacting with the animals. I was lucky to see some of the wolves & caretakers playing chase during feeding time. Go visit the variety of animals & support this place! 💚
Jessica T — Google review
We came early, it was quiet the animals were out and curious and really enjoyed watching the bear play in his pond. This place does a great job. Highly recommend!
Alyssa M — Google review
Amazing place staffed by wonderful workers and volunteers. We were there for the Mother's Day brunch and the food was wonderful and the animal encounters were amazing!

I've lived in the area for nearly 25 years and I can't believe this was my first visit! I've been missing out! This place is SO cool! The staff is very knowledgeable and kind. There's a super cool playground and we got to feed the big tortoises!

Red Lily Vineyards

Wineries & Vineyards
I went to Red Lily Vineyards during the summer, and it was an amazing experience! The whole venue was absolutely breathtaking. You can enjoy your wine by the river, or walk through the beautifully kept gardens. It was pet and family friendly, and absolutely stunning. The staff is amazing, and it’s definitely worth visiting.
Haley W — Google review
Visited from Colorado for a large event taking place all week. Our group booked out the back part of the venue. We went to a different winery every night for the week and this was my favorite. Beautiful location, on the water. They have live music on certain days of the week. The only issue was the service time. Don't think they had enough staff for the large group that was there, so people were standing in line to order for a while. Other than that, loved it.
Annette O — Google review
This place came highly recommended from a friend of ours who lives in the area. A lovey place to sip on wine. They have ample seating outside and near the creek. We enjoyed several wine flights. The sandwich of the day was delicious. This was a fun stop
Steve M — Google review
It is a beautiful location, just gorgeous, with a wonderful seating area right by the river. The wines are delicious, the food is very good. Basically, it is the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon sipping rosé, and the kids can just play with rocks by the river. There is a lot of room to accommodate bigger groups, and the scenery is really top notch. So peaceful. Now also with live music on Thursdays.
Krister A — Google review
The atmosphere was great! The barn, crystal clear creek in the grounds, and options were enjoyable. The wine wasn't excellent in our group's opinion, but it was priced a little lower and if you enjoyed one, it was a good value. Felt built more for events and hanging out than high end wine. We still had a great time!
Steven M — Google review
Such a great spot. Beautiful grounds right on the creek and an excellent assortment of very tasty on the spot made wines. The food was charcuterie style, but the spinach artichoke dip we had with our drinks was phenomenal. They encourage picnicking on the grounds as well. I was told they even have live music and food trucks on certain days. I would definitely go again, it was worth the drive....10/10
Chadd F — Google review
This winery is fantastic! The wines are scrumptious, from the port to the white wines. The fig jam is insanely good, the charcuterie is to die for, and the coconut soup is a rare treat. It's just a wonderful winery. The staff are gracious and charming. They also sell cute kitschy items and we wanted one of everything! They have both inside and outside seating plus seating down by the river. Masks no longer required!!

Red Lily Vineyards are nestled in the Applegate in Southern Oregon. The atmosphere is casual and very comfortable. If you visit, make sure to try the Tempranillo. Delicious.

The English Lavender Farm

Sights & Landmarks
Farms
So grateful to have this in our community, this family will make you feel right at home and have some of the best smelling lavender goodies you can imagine. My favorite is the essential oil, lavender lotion and lavender hand wash. Open June and July but you can find them at local farmers markets too.
Cassie D — Google review
Beautiful Farm! Great atmosphere, very relaxing to listen to the bees buzz through the lavender. Very kind staff.
Kimberly H — Google review
This place is the cutest Lavender Farm I have seen. The scenery is perfect and the small pond is breath taking with the water lilies. Myself and family member enjoyed the sites and the Lavender shop was wonderful! Lovely little getaway.
Kristina S — Google review
Went on a scavenger hunt for lavender farms and began with this one. The owner was super friendly and there was a lot of nice products available for purchase. This was the best farm I went to during the first day of the lavender festival, and they set the bar high. Strolling through endless rows of lavender with bees buzzing around on an 80° day with a gentle sprinkle of rain really set a relaxing tone. There is very limited to no phone service within half an hour of this area, so make sure to have your GPS loaded in advance.
Nathan G — Google review
I saw her booth at the Brookings azalea festival weekend. Purchased the lavender shortbread. This was the best tasting shortbread I have ever experienced . The top of the shortbread melts in your mouth then you experience this Wonderful crunch as you bite a piece off. All the while this incredible flavor flows over your taste buds. Smooth and crunchy and oh so good! My only regret was there was only one left to purchase.
Sally C — Google review
The English Lavender Farm is just getting blooming and by the sounds of it will be at full bloom at the beginning of July. We loved getting photos in the fields and shopped in their charming little shop where we enjoyed lavender lemonade and the most delicious toasted sugar shortbread. Such an enchanting place. Every third weekend in June and mid-July they have the Southern Oregon Lavender Festival where they have a food truck out and they do wreath making workshops among other fun events. A favorite summer thing to do!
What O — Google review
Excellent way to unwind on a Sunday afternoon. I happened up here during the lavender festival and got the most wonderful blueberry lavender sangria and a bruschetta salad while listening to live music. Then proceeded to commune with the bees about how lovely the lavender flowers were. Fantastic way to start any week!

Super friendly staff... Owners are active in supporting the community. It's a lovely place worth the drive out to spend some time chilling out in such lovely surrounds. I do recommend bring out water and such if it's hot.

Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve

Mentioned on
1 list
National reserve
Nature & Parks
Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve is a fascinating destination for those interested in geology and outdoor exploration. The caves are composed of intricate marble formations, which create huge underground caverns that can be explored through guided tours. The tour lasts about an hour and a half, during which visitors can witness unique calcite formations and learn from knowledgeable guides. It's important to bring warm clothing during the tour as the temperature inside the cave is around 44 degrees Fahrenheit.
Such an amazing experience. Specially in the heat of the summer. I went in with just a t-shirt. It felt amazing. I do recommend a long sleeve shirt. But a sweeter or jacket is not necessary. You will get warm just moving through the cave. Me and my queen went with no kids. Nice get away. We will definitely be back with all 4 of the regrets. Also made our way up above the tour and found the cave with a sign in sheet. I suggest having a flash light for that ine. Or phone light. Its about 12' in and takes a right down to the container that has the sign sheet. See the photos.
Mike T — Google review
This is an awesome find and I highly recommend going. You'll probably won't see anything like it in your life and it's a very humbling experience to go through, I'm very grateful it's even a tour, and the kids liked it also! It was a mile hike underground but they did awesome and it wasn't really too cold like we expected
Levi W — Google review
We have a great time here. The cave tour is really cool and worth the money. The guide for our tour was friendly, knowledgeable and did a great job. The tour group was small enough that everyone could easily see and hear the guide. The tour is 90 minutes and has a lot of walking on uneven surfaces and up quite a few stairs. This is not for small children or anyone with walking difficulties. The different formations and features are awesome to see up close. I would recommend an appointment but they also save quite a few spots for same day walk in. We will definitely go back some time.
Jeremy — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience! The caves are surreal with twisting marble formations, hidden chambers, and fascinating geology. The park rangers were incredibly knowledgeable and brought the whole underground journey to life with their passion and storytelling. The drive to the monument is stunning, winding through lush forested hills. It’s a bit of a trek to get there, but 100% worth it even if you're coming from hours away. Pro tip: Arrive early! The visitor center opens at 8:30 AM, but you’ll want to be there by 7:45 AM to get in line for tour tickets. Tours are limited and often sell out fast, especially in summer. If you’re in southern Oregon, don’t skip this. It’s a true hidden gem and a perfect mix of nature, science, and awe.
Justin W — Google review
Aug 2025 My 3rd time here 1st time for my wife. I told her it was a nice level walk! I guess my memory sucks (it had been 25 years since the last tour). There are plenty of stairs and steps! She still loved the tour, and still loves me though. Awesome cave. Our guide showed us a device for recording bats flying through. Therefore the Bat Phone really does exist! The cool colors in some of the photos are a trick the phone did. There is a combinations of LED and incandescent lights that plays hell with the white balance. Actual colors are cave gray as in the other images.
Dan C — Google review
We had the best time on our guided tour through the caves. Our tour guide was very pleasant and gave usany fun facts about the caves. The drive up to the caves is windy but not too long. Make sure to pack a sweater as the caves are very cold even though it was 90° outside of them.

One of the best cave tours I’ve done in a long time. The park Rangers were very knowledgeable and the hike was really fun. You do walk up a lot of steps and you have to duck under some rock formations, but it’s a really great experience.

Highly recommend the Oregon Caves and taking a tour. We took our three kids and spent Almsot two hours underground during our tour. A beautiful spot, worth the drive.

Great Cats World Park

Wildlife park
Nature & Parks
10-acre park housing exotic wild cats (including lions, tigers & leopards) & offering guided tours.
me and my partner decided to stop here on a whim after our trip to another nearby animal sanctuary. and wow we were blown away, the staff here was knowledgeable- and answered any questions we had on the cats. and the animals all looked super healthy and well cared for. this was honestly the highlight of our trip.
Rebecca D — Google review
This was a fantastic experience! Super informative, the cats were all very active and the tour guides were very fun, knowledgeable and you knew they loved their work. Also great because you can jump in and out of the tours at any time. We stop at most attractions we see on the road and this was a 10/10 for us. Our boys are 6 and 4. They both enjoyed it ,too!
Michelle S — Google review
Remarkable and one of a kind place. Staff are friendly and respectful. Staff are knowledgeable and admission comes with a free guided tour! As you are guided, they throw treats and the animals usually become more active and you can see them feet away from you and its crazy. Some of these animals only exist in captivity now or are severely endangered. Come see them and support! Gift shop is also awesome and this place is super kid friendly for the family!
Louis V — Google review
Didn’t realize there are tours- there was a note on website about getting to park a few hours before close and the tour is the reason why. The tour was great taking you through the park providing information and taking any questions on each cat that is on exhibit. By taking the tour you should be able to view each animal up and walking because they are provided food. Without the tour most cats would be sleeping in their favorite shade spot. No added cost for tour. My only concern is the larger cats may not have the amount of room a zoo would provide. All the animals appear to be healthy. Plenty of shade and water misters provided for both animal and tourist. Plenty of parking and a large gift shop.

Decided to visit Cat world. Staff was very friendly. Very clean. Cats looked healthy and had plenty of room. Well maintained grounds. Small gift shop. We did self guided tours. Also available is tours with no extra cost. Tour length is 1.5 hours. Definitely would recommend if you are in the area. Not a bad price. Great for kids.

We so enjoyed seeing all the beautiful cats. The chance to be so much closer to them is an amazing experience. You can tell they are loved & cared for. What a treat!!! Also the shade system & benches provided for the people, is just a blessing!!! Thank you!!!

Siskiyou Smokejumper Museum

Museum
Specialty Museums
Our Venturing Crew visited this museum before we headed to a tour of the Oregon Caves and we lucked out! We had a wonderful tour guided by an alumni of the school. He had amazing stories and answered all of our questions with patience and good humor. After talking with him further, it turned out that there aren't guides there at the museum every day and it was pure luck that we got him all to ourselves. Thank you to all volunteers, because without them the information presented would be less engaging. Thank you for maintaining this location. It's important to understand where our communities came from.
Brett A — Google review
Great experience. This place is full of real equipment used by the actual smokejumpers and tours are by real smokejumpers. Lots of history and good information. Highly recommend you stop here.
Mitchell B — Google review
We had a very knowledgeable nice guide who had been a smokejumper out of 'The Gobi' and in Alaska. He answered our questions and presented various pieces of information. We learned so much! This is a great museum that used to be an actual smokejumper base that is operated solely by volunteers. Stop by and visit this wonderful place! Although entrance is free, donations help them maintain and pay expenses. Thank you for the guided tour!
Becky E — Google review
Excellent “gem” of a museum! 100% authentic – the grounds, the buildings, the displays, and our tour guide – who is an actual smokejumper and Vietnam Vet who served 17 years at the Siskiyou base! I concur with previous reviewers that "Mr. Gary is a living legend!” This type of opportunity to view history so up close and personal is rare. The tour is free. However, donations are greatly appreciated. They also sell some t-shirts and souvenirs to cover costs. (bring some cash in case their internet is down) Give yourself about 1-1.5 hrs depending on how many questions you have. If no one’s at the museum during posted hours, just call the phone number on the door, and volunteer will be there shortly to show you around. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity if you are traveling on US Route 199 near Cave Junction OR. P.S Don't miss seeing the "Moon Tree" on the grounds while your there. Story involves an astronaut and seeds "from the moon."
Jim T — Google review
Smoke jumper museum, technically "open" but all the doors were locked with a phone number to call if I wanted to see the actual inside of the museum. Walked around and did the walking tour and there are several placards with interesting information. Nice place to recognize those that have fought fires and kept people and lands safe for many years.
Hazel C — Google review
We took our homeschool group on a field trip here. Gary was a great host, explained so much and answered all our questions. It was very interesting, a piece of history I never knew existed. Great for kids 8+ years, but even the younger ones seemed to enjoy it.
Bethany K — Google review
So glad we made this stop. Within a few minutes of arriving, Gary arrived and gave us a very thorough history, along with many personal stories. Much of the museum is maintained by volunteers (former jumpers, or their family), so its small but passionate. We stayed for ~1.5 hours, with a small gift store selection at the end of the tour with a donation box.
Claire B — Google review
This museum was very interesting and informative. The personal guide was a retired smokejumper from that location. It doesn't have an admission fee and is dependent on donations. I would go back given the opportunity.

Alfred A. Loeb State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Alfred A. Loeb State Park is a beautiful park known for its stunning myrtlewood trees and offers various outdoor activities such as fishing, swimming, and rafting on the Chetco River. The park is home to the northernmost grove and is located within the Siskiyou National Forest.
Amazing views!! The drive there, alone, was breathtaking. The showers are the best part after a really long hike. There is water there! There is power here. You can apparently get spaces up to 2 weeks. After that, you have to wait 3 days to camp there again. They are dog friendly, too! The toilets DO get backed up, so DON'T flush extra things in there. For the sake of everyone else 🙄 there are firepits and picnic tables with plenty of room for your dog or kids. It's quiet, and everyone is friendly and keeps to themselves. I absolutely loved it here. Especially because it's next to the river and close to the botanical garden.

Gorgeous surrounding area with clean, more private feeling tent sites. Check in/out was a breeze. Felt very safe and comfortable throughout our stay and will be returning as soon as possible. Internet/service is a little spotty, as the campsite is in the sticks. River was warm, calm, and fairly shallow.

Fantastic camp spot for smaller rvs. I am in love with it & will definitely be back for more. My husband & I hiked along the Chetco, walked through the redwoods & enjoyed the scenic beaches. So quiet, especially on week days.
Elyse D — Google review
Perfection. Quiet campground, I swear everyone was asleep by 9pm. 😆 Chetco river is beautiful, shallow and WARM! Great for swimming or kayaking around a bit.The restrooms are as clean I've seen at campgrounds with flushable toilets. Showers are clean and water temp was fine. Not cold. Firewood is sold by camp host. Kid friendly and dogs are welcome. At night the only sounds I could hear was a hoot owl. We will make this our annual trip. Trails along the river lead to the Redwood trail. You won't be disappointed. Just a short drive to the coast and Samuel H Boardman state scenic corridor. Close enough to Hike to Secret beach and kayaking back at camp.

My dogs birthday was 4/20 and we drove down to Brookings from Washington to camp with his sister another pup and it was the most relaxing experience.

An absolutely beautiful little park right on the river with access to the Rocky Beach and a short hiking trail. Most dog owners are entitled here and do not follow the leash requirement in this place (even more than usual), unfortunately. The campground is lovely too.
Michelle N — Google review
Great day camping area with picnic tables separated by bushes. The toilets are very clean. You can drive out to the river. It’s all ricks—be careful. The blackberries are in season so there’s lots to pick. The trip from Brookings is beautiful. We saw Black Tailed Deer crossing the road. Take a picnic with you since you can eat by the river—bring chairs. Dogs love to go in the river.

Named after the ancient native azaleas that have been meticulously restored, the park offers picnic areas, sports facilities, and paved walkways for leisurely strolls. Its significance dates back to the time of Lewis and Clark's expedition, adding to its allure.
Lovely park. Absolutely outstanding holiday light show. We returned the next day so my grandsons could enjoy the playground. It is very clean, no bark chip and huge. The nearby restrooms were also clean. We frequently stop at this park on trips up the coast.

I went to this park to visit the Capella by the Sea. The chapel is a small A frame building with a view of the ocean and harbor. The chapel was reserved for a special event so I only had a few minutes to walk in and look around before I needed to be out. The park itself has a small trail that winds through the trees and was a nice enjoyable walk. This park also has a playground and a disc golf course that looks like it would be fun as it is in and out around the trees. All in all it was a nice visit.

Nice little park with room for kids to play and parents to walk out sit and relax. Could have used more seating in the shade, but we were there on a warm day. The park has lots of amenities like basketball courts, ball fields, the Kid Town play structures a gazebo and off course, the Capella structure that is pretty amazing. Just wish we could have gone inside but from the vandalism in other parts of the park, I can see what they have to keep it locked up! They also have restrooms and lots of grassy areas.

*fenced kids play area *disc golf *restrooms *garden path/flowers *fun water fountain I really enjoy this park on any regular day but also really love all the events held here like the music festival and the Christmas light display. The playground is better suited for slightly older kids but there is a smaller section of it that is better for littler ones. The whole playground is fenced.

Harris Beach State Park, located just north of Brookings, Oregon, is a picturesque state park named after Scottish pioneer George Scott Harris. The park boasts a stunning coastline with rocky outcroppings and sea stacks, as well as Bird Island, the largest island off the Oregon coast and a National Wildlife Refuge that serves as a breeding ground for rare bird species like the tufted puffin.
This place was beautiful! You walk down a green and lush paved walkway surrounded by berry bushes. Then, the walkway turns to a dirt walkway full of roots and stones. Then, the foliage opens up to a driftwood littered beach and the imposing ocean! So gorgeous! Perfect for a stroll, a picnic or just family time to hang out and play in the sand.

We have been here twice and camped in a tent in C6 and C8- 6 is best! This campsite has always been full of good natured people and families and the amenities are wonderful as well as the rangers and hosts. I think you will love it as much as we do. It does get very damp on the coast so be sure to bring a water proof tarp for over your tent!! The beach is amazing with lots of sea-life to discover and rocky trails to climb. Highly recommend this campground.

Beautiful little spot to spend some time at the beach. Seems to get a little crowded at sundown as people enjoy the view. We used the day use area several times over a few days and accessed a different part of the beach each day. Found star fish and other marine life at low tide. Family friendly. Flushable toilets and picnic benches. We visited over Memorial Day weekend and it wasn’t too crowded.

Such beautiful weather this year. This is our favorite spot to camp in Oregon. The seascape is unique. Oh and especially the backdrop during the sunset hour is really spectacular. We will come back here every year if we can.

Beautiful state park and campground at Harris Beach! A mixture of full hookups, water + electric, and rustic sites. Most are very generous spaces with vegetation surrounding for privacy. The bath houses are well equipped and maintained. Loved having a fire ring for the evenings. Great little beach at the park with interesting rock formations and tidal pools. There are some walking trails and the campground is close to Brookings (only 15 min walk to town). Will definitely come back here when we are next on the Oregon coast!
Emily P — Google review
It's a nice beach from which to watch the sunset. The plentiful rocks in the water add to the dramatic mood at sunset. The beach itself is ok, seemed a little messy. There's a lot of driftwood and sea detritus on the beach (stinky kelp and seaweed) and it can get flooded with large ponds due to the profile of the beach. There's also a creek that drains across the sand which you have to cross, and while I'm hoping most of the runoff in this part of the world is clean, I don't know what kind of stuff drains here, from street runoff and so forth. Can get busy, there is a campground here so people will often set up tents and canopies to occupy an area all day.

Beautiful campground right by the water! We love staying in the yurts. Bathrooms are well maintained and so is the whole park.
Jagdev — Google review
As our first visit to Oregon, Harris Beach State Park immediately became one of the best state parks our family has experienced! It truly deserves 5 stars. The location is fantastic, with the beautiful beach just a quick 5-minute walk from the campground – perfect for our morning strolls and watching the sunset together. For hikers like us (and our dogs!), this place is paradise. There are plenty of fantastic, dog-friendly trails right within the park, and even more amazing hiking options just a short 20-minute drive away. We wwere absolutely blown away by the nearby redwood forests – truly unbelievable and a must-see! We stayed in Loop B, space 11, and found it to be wonderfully large and comfortable. While backing our 39ft rig in took a little maneuvering, the space itself was great once we were settled. For whoever looking for those truly premium spots with jaw-dropping ocean views, definitely try to book sites 20, 24, or 25 – on Loop A, they looked incredible! A huge plus for us, especially since I was working remotely, was the T-Mobile 5G coverage – it was surprisingly strong and reliable throughout our stay. It made handling work tasks seamless while being surrounded by such beauty. While we love using our Starlink, the excellent 5G meant we didn't need to set it up this time. For fellow Starlink users, it's worth noting that Loop B might be challenging due to potential obstructions from the gorgeous, super-tall redwood trees. Loop A, particularly spots along the main road with clearer sky views, might be a better bet if Starlink is your primary internet source. SIDE NOTE: We noticed a family nearby, clearly new to RVing, really struggling to back their trailer into their spot. After watching them try for about an hour with dozens of attempts, we decided to offer a hand, even though you sometimes hear it's best not to interfere. They were incredibly grateful, and it felt good to help them get parked up so they could finally start relaxing. We really believe there's nothing offensive about offering help, especially when someone is visibly having a tough time. So, to our fellow RVers reading this: if you see someone struggling, particularly newbies, please consider offering assistance – it can make a world of difference and fosters a wonderful sense of community!

Photos just can’t do it justice. This was one of our favorite hikes on our family trip to the Redwoods State and National Parks - the trees were incredible, and the path was easy and level — perfect for families with littles, seniors, or those needing to take it easy. Absolutely beautiful and a must-see. True wonder of nature! We went and walked on the Grove of Titans trail, which is about two miles total. They ask that you stay on the trail (because your footsteps can damage the forest floor) and there are some raised metal walkways because of this. Though there’s a lot of roads and trails, it’s still a good idea to be prepared. There are countless areas where there’s no service, roads are dirt and are extremely narrow (but there are turnouts/shoulder areas where you can pass). BRING WATER AND SNACKS! It costs $8 per car if you park within fee areas. The parking lot by the Grove of Titans trailhead was free, and there’s a restroom there as well. Absolutely amazing. Even within five minutes of our hike, a deer walked across the pathway. Didn’t seem to mind humans. It’s worth a visit! Also, if you get the chance, visit the Smith River — the water looks like glass.

Absolutely surreal and euphoric! Walking among these ancient redwoods feels like stepping into another world. The towering trees, peaceful trails, and crystal clear Smith River make it a truly magical experience. Far less crowded than other parks; pure bliss.

Easy parking. A day pass can be purchased with a credit card at the ranger station, that one day pass is good for parking at any of the many parks in the area. I’d take cash with you for that Self parking situation, you can fill out your own ticket and put money in the hopper at the signage by the restroom, which also has a map. If no cash you will have to find that station I’m talking about. Easy parking, kid and pet friendly. (Pets on leashes) Absolutely gorgeous at every turn. The location used for filming the Ewok Village for one of the Star Wars movies is close by. A ranger can give you an idea of where. We hiked and got in the river. Bring comfortable walking shoes and you will need shoes if you plan on entering the water, it’s all rocks and difficult for to walk barefoot.
Travis S — Google review
Amazing in every way. I recommend doing the Boy Scout Tree trail first. It’s the longest, but well worth it. The trail has tons of roots and hiking boots would be preferable. The Boy Scout tree is easy to miss since it is off the trail. It’s on the right side of the trail before you get to the waterfall.

Lovely park. Great walking trails. Clean park and friendly checkin at the kiosk. It loses a star because the bathrooms and showers are gross. Shower takes 4 quarters for 2 min. of water. There is no change machine like there is at other State parks. The drain was clogged/slow and water filled up the entire changing area. Very muddy and dirty showers and bathroom stalls.
Julie G — Google review
The drive into the park on Howland Hill Road, right up close and through the redwoods, is one of the best forest drives that exists. It becomes one lane at times, meaning you will need to coordinate if other cars are coming, but it is worth it as it is as it is close to the trees as you will ever get in car and helps preserves the immensity of the forest around you. Visit the park as early as possible to avoid seeing other cars and hikers. We went right at sunup and were one of the only ones there. We hiked the Grove of the Titans and Stout Grove and it is impossible to explain how amazing these old growth redwoods are to someone who hasn't seen them. Pictures can't really do them justice as they can't capture the feeling they invoke when you are really confronted with how massive they are. The park is well kept and the hikes we did were well marked and very peaceful in the early morning. The trails and drive out did get much busier with people and cars as the morning wore on. I thought the additions of the metal platforms and bridges on some of the trails was useful and did not take away from the surrounding nature. If they help preserve the undergrowth, I'm all for them. All in all, a great park to see the redwoods which should be on everyone's list of things to do.

Ocean World is a privately-owned aquarium in Crescent City that offers an exciting and educational experience for visitors. Originally opened in 1964, it now houses undersea habitats within more than half a million gallons of aquarium space. The attraction features guided tours, touch-and-feel tide pools, and fascinating information about the aquatic inhabitants. Visitors can enjoy unique experiences such as shark petting and performances by resident seals and sea lions.
What a great little adventure! I stopped in with zero expectations, assuming a tiny overpriced aquarium. I was then told they only do tours, so I was a little skeptical, but wow we loved it! Every single staff member I interacted with (4 people) had a great attitude and was helpful and friendly. The price for the tour was well worth it. There weren’t a ton of aquariums, but the ones they had were well stocked with interesting creatures and fun to look at. The best parts were being able to actually touch and pick up various invertebrates, shark petting, and a little show with some well-trained harbor seals and sea lions. The tour wasn’t too long to where it dragged, but we also never felt rushed. Plenty of cute little photo ops along the way. The gift shop had a ton of souvenirs and decently priced toys for kids. Highly recommended if you’re driving through and looking for an hour or two stop to stretch the legs.

One of the reasons we stopped was because of the tide pools touch tank. We love exploring tide pools. The aquarium was neat, on the small side and there was a cute show with the sea lions at the end. Nice gift shop.
Jemily H — Google review
Timed, guided tours mean there aren't a lot of people pushing in to get a view. While there weren't a lot of specimens, it was still a nice little aquarium. The touch tank was one of the better ones I've been to, even allowing you to pick up anything on a shell. The seal/sea lions shows had humor and gravity defying tricks. Our shark loving daughter was so excited to get to pet the shark!! Tip: Check the website for a printable coupon!

Honestly, just a small aquarium. But you do get to pet a shark, a small shark, but still a shark. The coolest part is at the end when a seal and sea lion come out and do tricks. The gift shop is nice and you can get redwoods stuff in there. Little steep in price however. Tours run every 30 minutes or so, but the groups are kinda big.

This was a very nice aquarium to visit while here in town. They walk you through their place and showed you all the different creatures they have. They had a place where you could pet the starfish, you could also pet a leopard shark, and they have a sea lion show.

This place is small but fun. There is a tide pool where you can touch different sea creatures. There is a tank where you can bet a leopard shark. There is an aquarium area but it is not wheelchair accessible. You can see many different local species swimming around. At the end of the tour there is a sea lion and seal show that is fun.

It was cool to see the sea life and pet a leopard shark. It would be cool to see more ocean life there. We got to see sea lions and seals. They could step up their game a little more but our tour guide was super sweet, informative and took a picture of my family.

The Trees of Mystery is a captivating tourist attraction located along -101 in Northern California. It boasts massive statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, making it hard to miss from the highway. Visitors can explore the Trail of Tall Tales, featuring chainsaw-cut figures accompanied by recorded stories, set against towering redwoods. The attraction also offers a SkyTrail gondola ride through the treetop canopy, various trails including one that allows walking along a canopy, and unique tree formations.
Looks like a tourist trap, but it is a whole lot of fun. I would say its a must visit in the area. The gondola and canopy bridges are a very thrilling experience. The place is super clean and very well maintained. Trails are immaculate, and the place is great for any age. There is a giant gift shop as well. Expect to spend 2+ hours here.

I really love this place. First it’s really clean, bathrooms , trails, every place is tidy. The views of the redwoods in my opinion is better here than any of the other national and state parks. The price is great for everything you get. This is a gold mine of experience. They have a fun skywalk and gondolas. Also they have fun facts about the park throughout. Don’t hesitate, just come visit.

The Trees of Mystery in Klamath is the perfect place to experience the Redwoods if you or your loved ones are not able to hike the area. Whether due a physical challenge, logistical confusion, or financial impediment. The trail is easy, the stairs and steeper areas are only a few steps in length so it's an easy breezy "walk in a park". The rope bridges are a cool engineering feat. Crossing them requires some faith in math, science, and good workmanship. The height of the bridges can feel dizzying, but what a rush - taking that first step on to a suspended rope bridge, then putting one foot in front of the other and making your way from one side to the other. I drove a long way for that and couldn't be happier that I did. I was a little skeptical about spending money for a "Tree Park" when there are miles and miles of Redwood forest surrounding you in that area of the area/state/continent/world. But I had visited when I was a kid in the late 70s. I was thrilled to get a GIANT yellow "TREES OF MYSTERY" sticker. I thought it was so cool but I couldn't tell you why! I took it with me as our family moved all over the world. For years it decorated my bedroom pushpin wallboard, and I remembered the giant Babe and Paul carvings. But the park didn't have the rope trail or the gondolas when I last visited and the tickets were SUPER reasonable. Almost like they WANT to teach people about the redwoods not just profit from it. So I had to go back and see how the old park was doing. It was worth every dollar. The price included the short gondola ride up the hillside AND the rope tree trail section. The gondola windows are pretty old and weathered so they're pretty difficult to see out, but you do get to go to a tree top deck. There are amazing views of the tree tops the hillside, and the ocean - and a great perspective on just how super-tall these trees grow. Don't leave without going into the gift shop and checking out the Native American history/anthropology museum. It's an enormous collection. Many items that I've never seen before. Building tools, household items, clothing, hunting equipment...a great way to immerse yourself in what life might have been like for long ago inhabitants of the coastal forest area. I took waaasy too long picking out another ridiculous looking sticker from the gift shop but my campervan has a little sticker wall and it seemed like something I had to do. If you've got an hour or two, take the time to stop here!! I planned my road trip around it.... WHAT CAN I SAY? I'M A FAN!

Fun Place. The sky tram was closed, but the tree canopy trail was super fun. Lots of cool trees and carved wood figures throughout the park. The giant Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue Ox were awesome. Cool place overall. Fun experience.

We loved our time at Trees of Mystery! The $30 pp seemed steep, but it really includes everything in the park and you can stay as long as you’d like. We saw pretty much everything in a couple hours, including the gondola and bridges. We loved the stories and history on the trees, and the Paul Bunyan carvings were fun. Lots of photo ops and I’d say very kid friendly. I appreciate that we didn’t have to sit in the gondola with strangers and just enjoyed it by ourselves. Huge beautiful old trees to appreciate. It wasn’t too busy on a Monday morning.

I thought the $28 entry fee seemed high when i got there, but it ended up being a great value. not only a way cool hike, but a awesome rope bridges way up in the trees and then a Gondola ride included. it was awesome! we had a great time 👍

There is so many wonderful things to do as a a family here. There is the sky walk , interpretive trails, and the sky trail ride that takes you to the top of the mountain for a spectacular view of the area. The walk through the attraction is mostly uphill but offered seating areas to rest. If you are wheelchair-bound or have severe mobility issues I do not recommend the trail through, however they do have a shuttle that will take you to the sky Trail so you can still enjoy some of the attractions. It took us about an hour and a half to get through . It was really fun and we would go again.
Tracy W — Google review
It can get a little crowded, would recommend going earlier in the morning to beat the crowd. Also wouldn't take the wildness trail from the top of the gondola it was very steep and not much different from what you can on the other trails. Great time and happy we got to bring our dogs! $30 / person

Great experience loved the boat ride lots of good information from Chris. Was lucky enough to see a Bear and lots of eagles. Would recommend this for any family looking for something different the kids will love it

I’m the adrenaline junky in the family, and my wife is here for the scenery. Luckily our tour had a nice balance of both. Started off foggy near the mouth of the river, but the sun poked through later in the tour(as they advise, dress in layers). Lots of Bald Eagles and other awesome birds. Bring some binoculars, a jacket, and a sense of adventure. You’re in it for the ride of a lifetime. Can’t wait to go again with our family next time we are in town.

I purchased the 2 hour tour for family that was coming for a visit. We had a great time! Saw some bears, bald eagles, and many blue heron. The captain was very knowledgeable and funny. I had an issue with my bill, but was reimbursed after a slight delay. I would highly recommend checking out the Klamath on one of these fun tours.
Trumer C — Google review
Had a fantastic tour! The guide was great, informative, and funny! We went in June in the morning, so it was a little chilly starting out. Lots of wind and some spray from the river, it was all a great experience!
Aaron G — Google review
This was an incredible experience. We saw 3 bears on the trip! One bear was by the waters edge and was curious about us. He wandered around and sat in the water looking at us while we got pretty close. It was amazing. Unforgettable. He stayed close to use for 10-15 minutes. The other two bears didn't hang around, but it was still great to see them of course! The captain was fantastic:he has eagle eyes... Spotting different wildlife all the time... Ospreys, their nests... Seals out by the estuary... Well worth the money.
Niall D — Google review
Had a great ride. Saw Bald-headed eagles and even a few bears! The ride itself was also a lot of fun!

It was a fun experience to do jet boat tours. Couldn’t see any bears. Saw many eagles, turtles, osprey, vultures and nests of all kinds of birds.

The Klamath Tour Thru Tree is a popular tourist attraction located at the northern end of Redwood County. It features a massive redwood tree with a drive-thru tunnel carved out of its trunk, allowing visitors to experience driving through the tree. Despite being scarred by a forest fire and losing its top to a storm, the tree stands as a living monument to its storied past.
The excitement of being to drive your truck through a tree is amazing. I do wish there was information about height, and width and age of tree. I love that it still survives. Another tree history picture I'll attach.
Lorna M — Google review
We were so happy to have found a thru tree! Signs were clearly marked from the highway all the way to the tree. The gift shop was closed when we arrived. We were pulling a trailer so we parked at the bottom. There was not anyone around, we donated our dollar and continued up the hill. Some people would think it is a bit steep but- just do it!! Thanks to the owners of this private property to allow the public to continue doing this! It’s unfortunate some people do not have any respect and decided to carve their names into the tree.
Samantha L — Google review
Super laid-back experience. Maybe we had good timing because when we arrived, there was no line to pay to drive in. Sign said "$5.00 admission fee. We've stepped away for a moment. Just drop $5 in the box. We trust you." One curve, then a Y-turn to position our vehicle to drive through the tree... Snap some photos and we were on our way a few minutes later.
Golden P — Google review
We were driving down the 101 and decided to visit really quick. There was no wait. Paid $5. It is a smaller tree. So Bigger trucks and SUV’s might not fit. All in all it took us like 10 minutes total, we took some photos and were on the road fairly quick again. Nice and maintained.
Eric L — Google review
Way cool. A small car can drive through the tree. On the up hill side, look up your under a Myrtle Wood tree. Definitely worth while.
Randall H — Google review
I have always wanted to drive through a tree! When you arrive you pay the $5 entrence fee (cash only) and drive right in. The road is a bit narrow so go slow in case there is another car coming down. If you have a car bigger than a Honda Civic I would not recommend it since our mirrors were almost touching the sides.
Ruth I — Google review
I thought this was a bit corny until I actually did it. Actually driving through this thing is testament on how enormous they actually are. It does make you nervous - your mirrors are going to give before that tree - but I watched a Denali try to come through. He would have made it, just, but he pulled back at the last. I don't blame him. We have a Jeep Compass - I was sweating bullets but my wife, who was taking the photo, said I had plenty of room on either side. Didn't feel like it. Must have been though because she demanded I take another turn through with her in the car. I did.
Anthony P — Google review
Great find! We enjoyed this stop to drive thru a redwood tree. Be sure your vehicle fits first, we saw a full size SUV fail. Great photo op. Please pay attention to the entrance information and pay the $5 admission fee. This is private property. I'm sure it costs to keep it looking beautiful. We saw two vehicles drive up and fail to pay. Loved this stop! ❤️

Redwood National and State Parks is a vast woodland system that houses some of the largest and tallest trees on earth. The parks offer numerous opportunities to explore ancient forests, as well as the wild coastlines of northern California. With 73 discovery points, visitors can embark on short hikes through the redwood forest to witness remarkable sights such as the Grove of Titans and Bull Creek Flats. Adventure seekers can enjoy dirt roads and scenic routes through Humboldt and Mendocino backcountry.
Such a unique park with so many things to see and do aside from the big trees! The area/park is huge! Runs for over an hour north and south. Plan for a couple days! Get your reservations for the two timed reservation area of the fern canyon and tall trees! Drive around the area! Go to the scenic view points! Go to the beaches! Walk among the trees! Eat and stay at the nearby towns! Visit all the visitor centers! Take it all in! It’s one of the best parks out there!

This is a must see for all families and anyone who appreciates the outdoors. It's amazing to see these giants reaching into the sky. Some of the bases are well over 10 ft wide. Let's hope the next several generations will be able to visit and enjoy this, instead of it being harvested or die from pollution.
Kevin P — Google review
Some huge Redwood trees located in this forest. Only seen in California to Washington. Worth taking a drive there if you are going through the area. Thousands of them in this area. Enjoy the big ones that take 40+ years to get that size.
Orrin H — Google review
One of the best hiking and camping trips I’ve done. Photos don’t do justice to how monstrous these trees truly are in person. You feel like you’re walking through a real Jurassic Park. Truly amazing. Mother Nature is astonishing.
Theo E — Google review
If you only think of this as a National Park with big trees, you are missing out. It is also a great ocean park with great beaches and Roosevelt Elk walking amongst the waves. Fern canyon is epic as well, one of those hikes you will never forget. Plus, there are many great drives, overlooks, wildlife, river activities, campgrounds, and trails. Top all that off with the tallest trees on earth. Underrated, you will be hard pressed to find a park more enjoyable.
Wyatt P — Google review
Definitely worth visiting, 2 days will allow you to see the highlights of the park. All the visitors centers have friendly staff. Fern canyon was well worth seeing. Depending on when you go you do need a reservation for this. The views are breathtaking and it’s amazing to see all the redwoods. Scenic routes are a must for this national park and well worth your time.

It's been quite a few years since I've been to the Redwood National Park. We did the hike from the visitors center to the BIG TREE. I love these huge beautiful trees. I do think that there's a lot more downed trees then last time and wish (hope) that the state would do a better job of forest management then it looks like they are doing. We should do everything we can to save these forests for future generations.

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, located north of Ferndale, is a vast park known for its 75 miles of trails, campgrounds, and a visitor center nestled among ancient redwoods. The park is home to the famous Roosevelt Elk and Fern Canyon, which was featured in 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park.'
Amazing camping spot and hiking spot. Booked it just for Fern Canyon and it didn't disappoint. Went twice just to see what we missed. Was worth it both times. The first time we went hiking not too many people the second time, more than before. Be prepared for the cold water. Bring boots if you go in the winter and spring months. Summer months probably less water, but I'd still bring them.
Kali K — Google review
It really ranks as one of the best state parks you will ever visit. Where else can you possibly see giant elk on the beach next to ocean waves. Fern canyon is a once in a lifetime experience. Plus, giant redwoods on a scenic drive. It has a wonderful combination of views, drives, trails, and wildlife. Overall, the best stops in the greater Redwood park system.
Wyatt P — Google review
This park has so much to offer. From camping to hiking to wildlife viewing it's all right here. I've been visiting here for over 40 years. The staff at the information center can help you find the best activity to match your interests. But I'd recommend Trillium Falls or a hike along the trails adjacent to the Drury Parkway to get a taste. If you want more, and have the time, hike or drive to Fern Canyon. Personally, I like to hike the James Irvine Trail to get there. The trail will take you through some majestic and ancient groves of redwoods. The Elk Prairie campground is a good place to camp. Some of the facilities are a bit old. But the location is hard to beat. You'll likely see Roosevelt Elk in the prairie meadow. Give them plenty of space. Particularly during calving season (May-June) they can be aggressive.
Tino P — Google review
Great park! The information center when you first arrive is extremely helpful. Parking can be tight at some of the trails but parking along the main road has plenty of space. Big Tree wayside was my favorite. There's a good number of people at the beginning of the trail but once you start walking more than 10 minutes you're by yourself. Its absolutely gorgeous.
Austin — Google review
Gorgeous. Went today. Big Tree trail was fabulous, following the creek, falling leaves everywhere, ferns everywhere, so much moss and greenery. Thick forest that provided shelter from the rain. The air was damp and cool and smelled lovely. Exactly as I imagined the redwoods would be. Saw Bear scat but no bears.
Melissa — Google review
Beautiful area up north with plenty of campgrounds and things to do. The air is so clean you can taste it. Everyone is so friendly and the campground was fantastic! Its a long drive but on US 101 it was a beautiful drive with VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC. I have made this an annual trip.
Ben W — Google review
Wow so beautiful the trail was easy with a few obstacles one of the best hikes we have been on in the redwoods kid friendly five finger ferns waterfalls on moss. We saw elk just walking out of the parking lot at the beach. You do need a permit easy on line to get.
Tracie B — Google review
Amazing park. The small visitor center staffed with experts and park lovers really made this place shine. The ranger working the desk was very helpful in suggesting trails that would maximize our enjoyment based on our own perceived fitness and hiking level. The trails themselves were filled with the awesome inspiring redwoods - the air was so fresh I felt younger by the minute and absolutely giddy while taking in the enormity of these trees. The trail maintenance is amazing - I think you could almost take a wheelchair on many of these trails - so smooth. Watching a YouTube is one thing but being here is a full experience. You hear the wind rushing through the leaves, smell the fresh air, see the trees and the wildlife, feel the breeze - its a sensory experience, almost overload but in a good way. Highly recommend

Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail is a 1.4-mile scenic trail located in an upland redwood grove, dedicated to the environmentally-minded former First Lady. Situated north of Ferndale, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is renowned for its resident Roosevelt Elk and Fern Canyon, which was featured in 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park.' The grove offers a rare view of a ridge-top redwood forest with diverse understory plants such as rhododendrons and ferns.
Excellent 1.5-mile trail round-trip from the parking lot. Feels like a leisurely stroll. One of the must do hikes in the Redwoods. It is an easy, peaceful, and tranquil trail threw the trees. The forest at this elevation is super lush, supporting an understory of smaller trees and plants. Plus, the ground is covered in ferns in most places.
Wyatt P — Google review
Scenic trail surrounded by towering redwoods and elevated views that give a different perspective compared to lower groves. The walk is easy and accessible, making it suitable for most visitors. Interpretive signs along the trail add context about the forest and its history. Parking is limited, so arriving early helps. A peaceful and memorable stop.
Matt D — Google review
Great hike!! There were about 10 of us ages 55 to almost 80. We all really enjoyed our hike. Limited parking but we all found a space. The rest rooms were a plus. Everything was clean and neat from the parking lot to the trails.
Joy A — Google review
Magical! There is a reason this is one of the most visited trails in the park. There are so many ancient redwoods, spectacular rhododendrons when in season. The trail is flat and wide, easy to hike for all ages and abilities. GO IN THE MORNING FOR THE BEST EXPERIENCE. Beware: this parking lot will fill up at peak hours during the summer. Also- the road (Bald Hills Road) is not in good condition. You will have to share this narrow road with logging trucks. RVs are not recommended.
Michelle B — Google review
An easy, beautiful hike through redwoods and rhododendrons. It's a good hike for most ability levels, with only a few hills, and a wide, level path. It leads past some particularly big redwoods, some of which are hollow, and depending on the season there are all kinds of wildflowers.
Claire C — Google review
Absolutely amazing. Loved that the kids are allowed to play and climb on the trees in this area. It is a short easy hiking loop. Lots of great photo opportunities.
The F — Google review
This hike gives you a different visual experience than the other redwood forests in this region. There are less fallen trees and a greater change in its topography than other locations. What makes this hike even more unique than others, is that it gives you very close access to the trees themselves. On top of that, depending on weather conditions, the trees can be covered in clouds, making this experience very special.
Greg R — Google review
You have to see the Redwoods to really appreciate just how huge these trees really are and this grove is absolutely spectacular! The road to get there is quite steep but it is paved. There is parking but it can be limited depending on how many people are doing the hike. There are restrooms on site as well. The trail takes you through some beautiful stands of trees and loops around back to the parking area. It's very much worth the time to wander through it!

Interesting stop if you’re passing through. We came here on a Wed while in the area. Note that they’re closed on Mon and Tue. There is an interesting collection of local history and a separate room dedicated for Bigfoot information, print casts and photos. For a small town whose logging industry has been declining, Bigfoot is probably the only thing keeping the town alive. Staff was friendly and shared brief history of the town. Supposedly a small place that attracts retirees. Regardless if you’re a believer of Bigfoot or not, it is worth a stop to indulge in the lore.

Nature & Parks
Sue-Meg State Park, formerly known as Patricks Point State Park, is a picturesque oceanside park located in the heart of the California redwood coast. The park offers tidepools, campgrounds, a visitor center, and a Yurok plank house for visitors to explore. It provides well-maintained trails that lead through lush forests with changing seasonal colors and scents. Visitors can enjoy whale watching, observe sea lions, and witness beautiful sunsets along the rugged Northern Coast.
Formerly Patrick’s Point State Park, they recently changed the name but everything else is the same. Been coming here since the 90’s: this small state park is very special and unique. Being on the coast it doesn’t have the redwoods like Prarie Creek to the north or Humboldt to the south but it is gorgeous nonetheless. Hunting for agates and rocks on Agate beach is amazing, the coast trail is relatively easy and not super long but there’s a lot of side trails to explore. Wedding rock is picturesque and the cliffs are very rugged and awe inspiring. Honestly I’ve never seen tide pools here but they say they have em. We spend most of our time hiking or at Agate beach. This year we saw a bald eagle. The campgrounds are hard to score and have mixed reviews. We stayed in abalone campground this time and found it nicer and more private than the others, you could hear the ocean waves crashing all night which was cool. It can be cold and foggy here so dress appropriately, but that’s part of the charm.
Davoud K — Google review
The park is quite lovely and we have made it a new annual tradition to camp here. The individual campsites vary widely, from open and airy to closed off and secluded. The Sue-meg village tour is very worth checking out. Staff is always friendly as well.

Beautiful Park. We did not have enough time to spend there. We were only there a few hours but it was so beautiful. A short walk down a nature trail to the beach.
Jeremy S — Google review
This is one of the parks you have to pay to get into...$8.00...and it is worth every penny. We trekked down the hill to Agate Beach, where, if you choose, you can take up to 15 pounds of Agates with you...we did not. Even though we were there when the tide was fairly high we still got to enjoy some tidepools with starfish and anemones. There are many trails available and beautiful viewpoints throughout the park. We really enjoyed our visit.

My favorite state park on the coast! The ceremony rock was so unexpectedly magical. I’ve stayed at both abalone and agate campground. I preferred abalone. Agate beach was phenomenal. I love all the outcroppings & over looks. Super walkable. The raccoons are WAYYY to friendly and not at all scared of ppl. We had several in the trees around us each night & we’re very tenacious trying to sneak into camp.

the staff at the front entrance were super nice. the whole park seems well maintained and has so many pretty spots to check out, like Agate Beach and Wedding Rock. we hope we can come camping here again in the future as it felt so peaceful. it was $8 to enter, cash or card accepted

Visitors can enjoy the campground with 13 sites, including ADA accessible options, picnic tables, fire pits, and restrooms. Accessible beach wheelchairs are available by reservation.
The beach here is a short walk from the parking lot and path through goes over what appears to be a shallow boggy creek. It was easy enough to navigate with my small children. The waves were not too crazy the day we were there. The sun was shining and the surf perch were biting. I thoroughly enjoyed this beach and would make a stop here again when in this area.

Great dog friendly beach. Usually not crowded. Decent amount of parking and public bathrooms.

We stopped here to walk the dogs on the beach. It was a nice wide beach. Just wish that people with cars would be considerate and not park in the longer parking spots and let RVs or trucks with horse trailers use those spots as intended since they would struggle to fit in the regular parking spots.

Gorgeous flat Norcal beach. Horse friendly, dog friendly, family friendly. We found a beautiful spot with leftover firewood from the night before, and enjoyed the roar of the Pacific ocean for a few hours. This beach has a wheelchair pad/path all the way to an amazing view of the beach..

This is one of my favorite beaches . It's 15 minutes from my house. It's got what seems like miles of open beach to walk, run, or horseback ride. From there all the way to Moonstone Beach. It's perfect for my Dogs to go there. People are courtese still and pick up after their dogs. If you're a Tourist and want Sandollars, this is the Place to go. Also for Shells.

One of my favorite beaches. It is huge! I've been coming here since I was a kid. The beach is very flat which makes it good for walking and kids playing in the waves. You'll see dogs and horses here. Camping and day use allowed.

Long stretch of sand before the ocean, but besides that and the wind, nice beach. I once ate an egg sandwich here and it got all over my clothes. My first time there, a boat was parked many feet away from the tideline...very odd.

Sights & Landmarks
The Ingomar Club is a grand Victorian house in Eureka, California, known as the Carson Mansion. This architectural marvel boasts intricate detailing, vibrant colors, and ornate turret towers that capture the imagination of all who see it. While now a private club, the mansion's grounds are beautifully preserved and adorned with artwork by local artists. Although access to the interior is limited to members only, visiting this historical landmark offers a unique experience filled with opulence and architectural grandeur.
So very beautiful and cool that they have a virtual online tour. A shame that you can’t go inside, but it’s understandable as its a private club.

We only viewed it from the outside but even then could appreciate the splendor of it all.

Cool place to take a picture given the very interesting architecture of the building. Private club tho, so can’t go inside. Probably plan for 10 minutes of your time and move on. Still, must-go in Eureka.

Beautiful old Victorian definitely worth seeing while in Eureka. As others have mentioned it’s a private club not accessible to the general public. UPDATE: As suggested I went by and took a photo of the Carson Mansion decorated in all its Christmas glory. Spectacular‼️🎅

Beautiful, but whoever approved that green fabric Porte-cochère did the place no favors.

We ate the restaurant and stayed in the carriage house. The food was ok. The carriage house was nice and large and fully stocked like an Airbnb. However, I expected a lot more given the mystique and history of the place. Update: after receiving a reply below from the Ingomar, I went to the site to provide more information. Alas, there is no place to provide feedback. 🤔 The biggest surprise to me was how empty the restaurant was. In a fairly large dining room, there was just one other couple eating and we were seated right next to them. That and a large projector/screen system playing the football game. It just seemed like we were in the wrong place. There were other little things that didn't measure up to what I always heard about. Not necessarily bad, just didn't meet my expectations.

It's the Carson mansion but you can't access it as it's members only so you can only view the exterior

It's a beautiful building. When are the crown jewels of eureka. Private club and they will chase you off.If you even try to look into the windows. It looms as a very unfriendly, one percenter location
