Very cool place, had an awesome live band, and even better food. Had flats and gizzards for the first time and they were both great. Highly recommend

Go check it out for yourself!!! A local in Baldwin had told me about this place and I decided to check it out...this will now be our go to spot anytime we are staying nearby. The atmosphere, the food and most importantly the people...workers and patrons make this place feel like home. Tossing my signed dollar to the ceiling to pin it in a spot of my choice will be a constant reminder in the future to my first visit here at Oak Grove and I had an absolute blast!!!
Joe C — Google review
We thought we’d check out a different place to eat, so we went to Oak Grove. Our waitress, bless her heart and shame on me for not remembering her name. She was so sweet, so helpful and just a great waitress. She made us feel at home. The food was your average bar food, which we expected. After we were done eating, my husband purchased a few pull-tabs. Just something to do. We had our 5yo with us and she had pulled open a couple of them. It was our understanding that they were not sold to a minor and she was not cashing them in, so no harm. I’m probably wrong and will accept that. However, our waitress was in the middle of politely telling us that we could not let the little one touch them when she was rudely interrupted by who I can only assume is the owner /manager who began to chastise us like teenagers in high school. There were none left to be opened anyway. I get it, their house, their rules and we were “wrong”, but he wasn’t very welcoming and has no business treating customers with such anger and rudeness. Explaining that even touching the pull tabs was not allowed would have been better. The server was polite, it didn’t need to escalate anything past that.
Melissa V — Google review
We had a lovely experience! The gentleman that helped us, I believe the owner? - Was fantastic. The tavern was clean and food was phenomenal! We made the right choice to stop in! I got a pulled pork taco and my husband got the chicken wrap.& CANT FORGET the wonderful gizzards. Has the be the best in Michigan!!
Braven T — Google review
My BLT was delicious. Our server was very attentive. Kept up with our food and drinks. We happened to stop on Wednesday and they had music bingo that was fun.
Linda A — Google review
Food is great. Wait staff is nice but short handed so takes a little bit for them to get to you. It's a dark bar, could use some updates but it's always busy. Good rock music playing.
Linda A — Google review
Great staff, especially Jasmine, Olivia, and KC. They make the place a lot of fun. Visiting the OG is a highlight everytime.

Great laid back easy going country atmosphere. Pull in on your snowmobile, golf cart, etc, car, truck or helicoper its all good! Have fun with fun people and be yourself as you relax in Northern Michigan.

Big Sable Point Lighthouse

Historical landmark

Historic, circa-1867, 100-plus-ft. lighthouse featuring scenic views from the top & a gift shop.
Beautiful lighthouse! Went here this morning and absolutely no crowd because we went early before the heat of the day. 2 mile hike to the lighthouse and 2 miles back. Trail is easy and well maintained, I’m almost 8 months pregnant! Trail is along dunes so it’s a beautiful hike!
Brianna K — Google review
We took the first shuttle of the day and it was already very crowded at the lighthouse which is what we expected for a Saturday. The wait was long to climb so we passed but we got some great photos and our passport book stamped. The weather was amazing too so we had an awesome time. Would definitely recommend! P.S. Look for Mari at the lighthouse. She is a volunteer and is a gem!! Loaded with info and so friendly and helpful!
Susan F — Google review
Beautiful lighthouse and hike over to it! The trail was nice and smooth to walk on but I had heard it sometimes gets covered with sand which is harder to walk on. Be prepared for a 1.9 mile walk one way. Bikes are allowed on the trail ao that is helpful. The lighthouse itself is charming. The inside is neat with history and wonderful volunteers who know everything about the history. There is a gift shop and you can climb to the top for a small fee. Overall a must see if you can walk it!
Jordan W — Google review
Super friendly staff! Was really enjoyable to talk with them about the history of the lighthouse and experience it for the first time in 40 years (went there as a kid in the mid/early '80s). Absolutely amazing views from the top and worth the 1.5 mile walk. The walk is flat and mostly hard packed sand/dirt. Could bike it most of it with a mountain bike or larger/fat wheels.
Will H — Google review
Beautiful site and not easy to get to like most other picturesque lighthouses in Michigan. This one takes an effort but well worth it. Vital location and history (A. Lincoln was an approved of the project to build it). I noticed what I thought was a shipwreck remains just north of the site. Is that accurate? Any more info on this? See the image I shared.
Kevin K — Google review
Absolutely one of the most beautiful lighthouses I've ever visited! Volunteer lightkeepers were very friendly and informative. Sandy gravel 1.8 mile trail hike to get there and back from the campground. May be a harder trail for those with mobility challenges but highly recommend if you're able. Highly recommend this beauty!
Allison M — Google review
It's a long walk, either through the water by boat, or over 3 miles by foot. We were disappointed because once we got there we were told you had to pay $8 each to climb to the top. Swimming in from the boat, we carried no money, wallet, ID, nothing. I asked if I could look at the control room and up the stairs, (3 steps in). The unfriendly reply I received by one of the men working there was, "No, that's included with your $8 admission." I snapped a quick pic and we left. It is beautiful and the history was interesting. There is a huge giftshop inside the addition that was added to the lighthouse years ago.
Christina B — Google review
It’s a good hike to the lighthouse and back. Serene, mild incline (there), beautiful sand and pine trees. Lighthouse climb is 120 steps. Beautiful but windy beach.

Ludington State Park Beach

State park
Nature & Parks
Parks
Park bookended by 2 lakes offers modern & remote campsites, sandy beaches & year-round activities.
This park was surprising beautiful and diverse. With Lake Michigan’s edge and the entirety of Lake Hamlin within the park, there is a large variety of adventures for all. Hiking miles of trails was on our agenda, and it was filled with diverse scenery, and we added new birds to our life list !
Michelle B — Google review
This is by far my favorite State Park to stay at! Is it hard to get reservations? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely! There is so much to do, you'll never be bored. Spend your days walking the miles of beautiful trails; kayak Lost Lake or Lake Michigan; float down or fish the Big Sable river; take a walk to the lighthouse; spend the day at the beach; take in the wildlife while on a bike ride; end you're days with some ice cream from the camp store.
Mandi S — Google review
Love the beach at this State Park. It's always clean and well manicured. The bathrooms are also clean. (Wish they had hot water in the bathroom, though.) Our family has hiked to the lighthouse on the marked trail and have returned to the parking area via the beach. It's always a lovely walk (except for the time our three year old got soaking wet, when the temp was below 60° and it was windy. He said he was tired and needed to be carried the two miles back to the van 😳.) Highly recommend Ludington State Park!
Keith W — Google review
July 25-28, 2025, hooked with our dogs, watched the sunset. The park is amazing and we hope to go back and try to camp. Lots of trails with shade.
Gerard E — Google review
Great beach, with clear water tons of space. Three volleyball courts. Accessable walkway from shelter to beach, and beach chairs available. Bathrooms (no showers) located in the shelter. The shelter offers a store/cafe in the basement and a small museum upstairs. Large free parking lot. You do have to pay to get into the park, although we saw people parking just outside the entrance to the park and walking in (unsure if you have to pay when you walk in vs drive).
Catelin R — Google review
Great place to go for a hike and lots of beautiful spots to take it all in. Campgeound had electric hook up, however they pack you in like sardines. We needed a neighbor to move his truck just so we could get the camper into our spot. All main roads have been paved and there is a nice bike trail through the park!
Adam W — Google review
It's got the beach, dunes, old sawmill equipment, a dam, great hiking, a walkable light house and it's been recently updated. It's the most popular state park. The town of Ludington is cool also
Eric B — Google review
Typical Michigan star park. Very clean. Beach was pristine. I took Zeke to the pet friendly part beach and it was a small stretch with the river feeding the lake at the end. Was not busy at all at the end of July. Always enjoy Michigan beaches.

Beautiful memorial here. The beach across road they had a bonfire and band playing. Love the walkway to beach each panel is donation with names and saying on. Toy box there with sand toys. Well kept up.

Best beach in Michigan ☺️ Gorgeous sand beach (very accessible with paths down the sand!), clear water, beautiful sunsets, and plenty of parking. I will always come back here to enjoy Lake Michigan!
Morgan M — Google review
A beautiful park on the beach where you swim, sunbathe and can go on a healthy walk on the path to the lighthouse. We eloped here for 2 days during the heat wave last weekend.
Cris D — Google review
Sunset is absolutely beautiful here. The beach is mostly accessible for wheelchairs. It was not too crowded and plenty of space dedicated to swimming.
Rachel M — Google review
Nice big beach with two cantina to purchase food and snacks. One of which sells beer and bottled cocktails. Clean restrooms. Park is patrolled throughout the day. It also has a nice grassy shaded area for picnics, putt putt golf, skateboard park, volleyball nets, as well as the break wall to walk out to the channel marker lighthouse.
KJP — Google review
Great beach. Limited parking on busy days. Dog beach near the docks close by. Beach has concession stands, full bathrooms, shower facilities and metal walkway to the beach for elderly visitors

Sandcastles Children's Museum in Ludington, with its deep maritime roots, offers an engaging experience for kids. The museum features over 30 interactive displays including a mini pizzeria, grocery store, and music studio. Originally established as a summer sampler museum in 2006, it has grown into a popular learning and play center with over 20,000 annual visitors. Supported by donations and volunteer efforts, the museum organizes workshops and projects for children.
This is one of our favorite places to go! They have three floors of amazing things for kids to do as well as a myriad of enriching programs and activities almost every single day they are open. Prices are reasonable, within walking distance of restaurants, and they also have a great room for birthday parties.
Marissa R — Google review
A great adventure/sensory option for ages 2-8. Hands on everything with 3 floors to explore each successive floor for an older age but still including something for a young age. An area for breastfeeding mothers available which was a plus! The sand pit construction zone while loved by the children was an unwelcome surprise to the parents, a warning at check-in would be nice. Not stroller accessible.
Brittni H — Google review
A child’s dream come true! We drove up from Muskegon because it’s a chilly cloudy day and we wanted an indoor activity and it was SO worth the drive. The play areas are well thought out and maintained. So much open-ended play! I was thankful there was plenty of hand sanitizer stations and a private nursing / baby changing room. An awesome place to play & learn and be a kid!
Sydney T — Google review
Hands down best children's museum we have ever been to.
Curious S — Google review
A great local find that our children love to visit each time we are in Ludington.
Heath G — Google review
Sandcastles is a very cool place! They have all sorts of exhibits and everything is so hands-on. Our kids loved the bubbles and sand areas best. It is a bit pricey, I honestly don't feel like parents should be charged admission but it's ok. Still worth it for the fun the kids had. We spent about an hour and a half there and our kids are 13, 8, 5, and 5 months for context.
Brooke L — Google review
Visited this museum today for the first time with my 3 year old and 2 year old. It was an amazing experience! So clean and so organized. The best children’s museum I have ever been to!! Highly recommend!!
Alexandria B — Google review
Such a great place! One of the best childrens museums I've been to! So much to do you need a couple hours at least! Everything is completely hands on, realistic and fully stocked with everything to act out real life jobs, from a stage with costumes and curtains, to actual sand with loaders and dump trucks, to an ice cream/pizza place, to a post office with 'real' mail you can deliver to all the fun areas! Kids imaginations can go wild here. A definite stop if your in the area! We will be returning 👍🏻👍🏻 $9 per person to enter.

Cool lighthouse lots of other things to see like the huge prop you can walk out to the lighthouse and go inside there is a gift shop in the ground floor of the light house.
Sally H — Google review
This lighthouse is close to town and provides an excellent walk. In recent weeks the lighthouse has been opened for tours and a climb to the top.
Stone F — Google review
Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse is a great piece of Michigan's historic shoreline. The staff is pleasant and informative. It is a short walk out on the pier, close to the beautiful town of Ludington. It is a great place to get a cose view the S.S.Badger go out and/or return from Manitowoc, WI. This is one of our favorite places to go for breathtaking sunsets and to see all of the beautiful boats in the area, Love watching the sailboats going by as the sun is setting in the background over Lake Michigan. Definitely worth a visit for the lighthouse junkie's like myself. Highly Recommend.
Rob V — Google review
The light station was not open the day we visited, so did not get to go inside it, but it was still nice to be able to walk all the way out to it and get nice views to Ludington and of the coast in both directions.
Jeff P — Google review
We just fished on the pier. Easy entry and plenty of room with a lot of people fishing.
Gary T — Google review
Gorgeous pier, calm waters and you can pay $8 to climb the light
Tarso V — Google review
Great little experience and worth the cost to climb to the top. Lots of neat history and photos along the way up. Four separate fights to climb with landings at each level. I didn't mind the $8 per adult and $5 per child when you think about helping with conservation and preservation. Military friendly as they gift free entry for the serviceman/veteran. The hike out itself is free and worth it even if you chose to not pay to climb to the top.

The park features nine large bronze sculptures depicting scenes from Ludington's history and offers stunning views of the SS Badger as it sails in and out of port.
Great waterside park. Bathrooms were clean and accessible. There was regular swings, plus baby swings and a tire swing. A section for toddler play equipment and a section for older kids play equipment. Plus a looped walking trail along the water.
Danielle D — Google review
Love this park! Great playground for the kids, nice views, incredibly soft grass. Neat to get food and watch the SS Badger roll in.
Matthew W — Google review
This is a cute place to bring the family for some play time or a picnic. Parking was supper simple. Would recommend.
Murdock M — Google review
This is a great place. The park is medium size but with something for everyone. It's nestled in between two marinas, the municipal marina and the Harbor View marina, with Pere Marquette Lake waterfront and lovely views in all directions. Many sculptures are scattered around in the park. There's a large playground for kiddos. Lots of benches and tables can be found all around. There's even a gazebo with five tables underneath. Restrooms and an amphitheater is available as well. Edit: Added pictures, Oct 2022.
Feryal A — Google review
Nice playground for big and little kids. swings, nice scenery, bathrooms, drinking fountain, benches. Kids loved it

This park is some what breath taking! There's tons of sculptures. A lot of sidewalks taking you any where you want to go. A very nice viewing area to watch the badger arrive and depart. It's very peaceful. There's also a children's play area with places to sit for the adults. Public restrooms. Lots to do and see here!

S.S. Badger Lake Michigan Carferry Service

Ferry service
Sights & Landmarks
The S.S. Badger Lake Michigan Carferry Service is a historic coal-fired steamer that crosses Lake Michigan from Manitowoc to Ludington. Named after the University of Wisconsin's athletic teams, it is the largest car and passenger ferry on the Great Lakes. Operating daily from mid-May to mid-October, it can accommodate 600 passengers and 180 vehicles.
My daughter and I took the S.S. Badger from Michigan to Wisconsin on the night run and then came back from Wisconsin to Michigan on a day time run. My daughter is 12 and had the the most amazing time ever!!!! She really enjoyed playing BINGO and exploring the ship. Food was good and prices of food were very reasonable. The crew was fantastic and just above and beyond pleasant to be around!!! I’ll definitely be going again!!! Thank you for such a great time!!!
Chris — Google review
We have wanted to take the SS Badger forever, so we were thrilled to finally take our maiden cruise. 🚢 This is a one-of-a-kind experience. We would encourage everyone to take advantage of the movie, the sun deck, Bingo, the gift shop, and everything else. If you want a post card of the ship, be sure to get one in the gift shop. I’m sad we didn’t . But the whole experience, from blow horn leaving to the mooring at the end, was fantastic.
Kristine B — Google review
We had a blast (instead of driving around the lake) heading to our niece’s wedding. The ride was fun and weather perfect. Highly recommend to those looking for an experience instead of just a long drive. We played bingo, lounged on the deck in the sun, and enjoyed the breeze.
Elizabeth C — Google review
The S.S. Badger Ferry is a great way to "drive" between northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan. Although dated, the ship is clean and comfortable and has many modern amenities. The Crew (hands) makes the voyage fun and interesting. It has a museum exhibit covering ferry transportation. The four hours are stress free when compared to driving through Chicago and the time onboard is enhanced with Bingo and Trivia games. A truly enjoyable way to travel on U.S. Highway 10!
Rich H — Google review
We loved the ride, it truly was a once in a lifetime experience for us. The staff was super friendly for the most part. I really enjoyed the thoughtful touches they had to keep you entertained while on board. We also happened to have amazing weather when we went so that definitely helped! They had free soda refills which is nice because you don’t see that much anymore and that worked for coffee as well. I think opportunities for improvement would be better wayfinding signage, maybe an informative posted agenda and overall a bit of a renovation, although it was unique in character. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves. Oh I should also mention, I had to change my reservation 3 times and they accommodated me each time with zero issues. I did have to pay a fee when I canceled my SUV and added a passenger ticket for my mom who has health issues so we decided to forego the jeep trip around the state and come back the same day. I was hoping we wouldn’t have to pay that fee with adding another round trip passenger but I also didn’t ask for it so it’s on me. We loved the badger bingo and the food was actually a little better than expected. And best of all… we made it! :)
Amanda L — Google review
What a great experience. The ship was much taller than I thought it would be. It swallowed up a whole parking lot full of cars, trucks and busses. We entered the vessel at the stern and up the stairs we went into the waiting/game room. There we had bingo to play while alcohol drinks and cafeteria style food were available for purchase. It was a foggy day so we heard plenty of the fog horn. My favorite part was the great gift shop and shouts of "Big ship, great fun!" The only drawbacks for me were the cost and the length of time (about 4 hours) it takes to get across Lake Michigan. Glad the water was calm.
Rick S — Google review
Had a great trip and time on this classic and beautiful S.S. Badger. They offer food, drink. bingo, movies and so much more. The crew on land and sea was awesome. Thank you to all who work on on The S.S. Badger cruise ship.

Wow.. great trip everyone should take it once. Food not so good. They won't let you bring any open food on. We could have our lunchables but not our subway. Sealed drinks are ok. Bingo was fun and ya gotta buy something to take home.

Marquette Trails Golf Club

Golf course
Outdoor Activities
Played here quite a few times now. The course conditions are good, not exceptional. The greens are in very good shape but they’re pretty fuzzy and slow. This did not take away from the experience. The owner lives on the course has a super cool dog that we’ve always stopped to play with during our round. This time Chris (the owner) drove out to us on the 18th fairway so we could hang with Bobbie (the dog) for a second! How cool! The course is very scenic and it’s pretty challenging. The staff is very nice and accommodating. We intend on making it a trip a couple of times a year moving forward (about 1.5 hours away).

This course is quickly becoming one of my most favorite courses in the tri-county area. Very nice course layout , always in great shape, good restaurant as well. Competitive rates also. Keep up the good work!
Mike R — Google review
Had a great time this morning at Marquette Trails. Had conversations with the grounds crew and the owner and everyone seemed to just want me to have a good time. They offer a veteran's/1st responder deal that is second to none. Worth every penny and challenging greens to boot. Loved it!
Sean F — Google review
The food, service and golfing were an amazing price to value! I highly recommend anyone to try it for eating or golfing. Course is very nice and not super difficult. Very cool place and hidden gem.
Ray K — Google review
Well taken care of mom and pop course! Greens rolled true. Rough is rough, fairways are quality 👌 played 9 in an hour first tee time of the day. Can't beat this course for the price paid! Will be back
Tyler B — Google review
Unfortunately my boys were blamed for someone else doing donuts on the course. The boys had raved about the quality of the course and were looking forward to golfing for the third time in two days just to be turned away and accused. This was discrimination based on the boys age. Boys that get up to golf at 7:30 am are not the kind of boys that would destroy the course. We will no longer support this course.
Ashley D — Google review
Very nice course with an open front 9 holes and a wooded back. The greens will challenge any golfer. Fuel up with a Marquette Muffin at the clubhouse restaurant before your round.

The course itself was very nice. Pace of play was well. However they had no signs, no papers, nothing about the times of the kitchen closing at 2pm. We had planned bro eat after our round. My wife and I sat there for 20 minutes before they told us the kitchen Was closed.

Nice place with friendly staff. Food was good - pizza, fries, jalapeño balls and burger was all tasty. Keno, touch tunes and sports on the several tv's.

Ordered a pizza and deep fried asparagus to go. When I picked it up they automatically charged me a 15% gratuity on my take out order. When I put our order in the car I opened the box of deep fried asparagus and that's all it was. NO BATTER OR BREADING. I tried to take it back the cook or what ever she was was very rude. And told me I could not. Just plain nasty about it. Pic of what they think deep fried asparagus is. What a joke. I see you didn't say anything about the 15% gratuity I was charged for a take out order.

Just had one of the worst Swiss burgers ever, called up and told them and said they didn’t even make a Swiss to go besides for some married couple. made me sick, don’t have Damian cook your food.

This is a very small and friendly bar. We love the Friday night all you can eat fish. It's just a nice little getaway to have a quick bite to eat. The people are very friendly the service is great. They put on several events for the veterans which I think is wonderful. The gentleman and the pictures is 92 years old and served in our military and was a pilot. One of the men that was with him in their Journey while fighting for our country have wrote a book and the name of that is called Red Tail Captured, Red Tail Free. Memoirs of a Tuskegee Airman and POW. By ALEXANDER JEFFERSON ( LT. COL., USFA,RET.) WITH LEWIS H. CARLSON. This is a book I would highly recommend reading.

Silver Lake Sand Dunes

Park

Silver Lake Sand Dunes is hands down one of the coolest places I’ve ever been! The views are absolutely insane — endless rolling dunes right next to Lake Michigan make for a landscape that looks straight out of a postcard. Whether you’re driving a side-by-side, Jeep, or just hanging out by the water, there’s something for everyone here. We had a blast ripping through the sand, watching the sunset over the lake, and just soaking in the whole vibe. It’s super well-managed, the rules are clear, and the community of off-roaders is awesome and respectful. If you’re into off-roading, adventure, or just want to experience something totally different in Michigan, Silver Lake is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Silver Lake Sand Dunes are so much fun! We always have a great time. Be sure to use a reputable company if you need to rent a buggy, we used Sunbuggy rentals and it was not good, one of our buggies broke down and everyone was telling us they were not even legal and shouldn't be allowed on the Dunes. *Keep in mind, this was no fault of Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Silver Lake staff and security was fantastic. The Dunes are amazing and the views of the Dunes and the water are Breathtaking! We had a great time riding and watching the pros climbing and racing. Can't wait to come back again! Highly recommend!

One of the greatest and most unique ORV parks on the entire Eastern side of the US, had alot of fun but man the heat and sand makes you hot and tired real quick, also love the little town and stores here on the lake
Ozzy — Google review
This park is an absolute gem. The riding areas are well laid out, there’s plenty of space to explore, and the scenery around the lake is beautiful. It does get hot and sandy fast, so bring extra water and plan breaks. The nearby town is a nice bonus with good spots to grab food and cool off. Overall, a great mix of adventure and atmosphere.

One of the coolest little stops we’ve made on trips north, definitely could spend a week or two in this area. Not crowded and very beautiful, the winds can get crazy but it’s a wonderful place to spend the day or evening.

Awesome!! We had a guided tour of the dunes with Silverback Rentals. Roy was a terrific guide. We will definitely return!
Kimberly N — Google review
The silver lake sand dunes are awesome. It's got both a HUGE ORV area and a side for walking only, situated between both lake Michigan and Silver lake. Beautiful views and a blast to drive on. The test hill is intimidating, but if you fail to get over the first time, keep trying!

Great clean State Park to have Off Road fun. The Sand Dunes are always changing with the wind off the lake and some are challenging depending on your vehicle. Can’t wait to go back.

Silver Lake State Park

State park

Hiking Trails
Park offers desertlike dune ridges & mature growth forest to explore, plus off-road vehicle area.
Silver Lake State Park is an absolute gem and a must-visit destination in Michigan! The combination of massive sand dunes 🏜️ and the stunning shoreline of Lake Michigan 🌊 makes this park truly unique. The off-roading area is a total free-for-all playground—if you’re into adventure, this is the spot for you 🏁. Just be sure to have your dune flag mounted 🚩 and keep your eyes open out there—it gets wild in the best way. I had my blue Jeep Sport 💙 with me and it conquered the big hill like a champ! The views from the top are nothing short of breathtaking 🏞️. Even if you don’t have an off-road vehicle, you can rent Jeeps 🚙 or hop on a Mac Wood’s Dune Ride for an epic experience 🎢. Pack a lunch 🥪 and relax on the far side of the dunes overlooking Lake Michigan—it’s peaceful, beautiful, and feels like your own little slice of paradise 🌅. Whether you're riding motorcycles 🏍️, Jeeps, or tricked-out trucks, you'll have an unforgettable time. 10/10 recommend!

Great ORV park. Must have current ORV and Trail stickers plus either State park tab on Michigan License Plate or current Out of State resident pass. Lots of sand hills to climb and some water holes. Nice beach area also. Picnic tables, Barbecue grill, and Dogs allowed on six foot leash. Sunset on the lake is stunning.

Silver lake and the dunes is a great place to vacation. Great places to eat, shop, and rent equipment. The state park is a bit less desirable. Bathrooms and showers were consistently dirty. Perhaps the staff cannot keep up with the campers. The people camping this week had no respect for the campground. Constantly leaving the showers and bathrooms a mess. The campgrounds consist mainly of sandy lots. The beach was excellent. My kiddos swam everyday. If I had to do the trip over, I would have chosen a private owned campground. Walked through the campground next door and surprised by the cleanliness of it.

I have not been here since I was a kid, and my parents took the Mac Dune Rides. My husband had never been, so we took our Jeep and went with a group of great friends. We had so much fun, and my husband is hooked. The park is so amazing! The first day it had rained so we started with wet and a little compacted sand and the winds were very strong. As the sand dried and softened, the srive/ride changed. And the sand, it is constantly shifting and changing throughout the day. It was so much different from when we arrived, to when we left. We went back the next day, and it was completely dry and like powder, very little wind, and so totally changed. So not only did we have fun, but we were amazed at nature's work and beauty.

Very much beach. It does get a bit crowded where all the "stuff" is but it extends pretty far so just walk further and find some room. There is a playground, splash pad, bathrooms, and a café. They have all different rentals as well. There are 3 lifeguards on their chair towers, but they are only located near the little restaurant. So if you feel you need someone to watch you, stay near there. The beach is man-made with a really big shelf. So you can walk pretty far in before the water even gets to your waist. The water is pretty warm, not terribly warm, but you can get accustomed to it pretty quickly. The sand is really soft white sand. Very few sticks or anything pokey. The seaguls are quite annoying, but they are doing their job. There is a really nice pier you can walk along and a lighthouse. The beach area is really nice. You can pay for parking or find street parking in the neighborhood. Either way is fine. Not a far walk. There is a nice amphitheater where they soemtimes have live must and events. The carousel is really nice plus there are 2 kids museums one down by thr carousel and another one up on the main street.

What an amazing place. WE have been to sleeping bears dunes days before. But this one is also very nice. So many dunes. U can See this far. Awesome. And u r totally free in the dunes. WE Loved that. No entrance fee. Toilettes at the parking Lot. Many parking spots. I went there with my Family and WE all Loved it. WE will come back.

Stayed 3 nights (Sun-Weds) the weekend after Labor Day, when we knew things would be quiet in the late season. Check-in was easy, staff is friendly. The campground is very empty this time of year, especially during the week. Most tourist attractions and shops are either closed or have limited hours. Lighthouse & Lake Michigan Beach is about a 5 minute drive. The campground is divided by the main road. One side is more woods, and the other side is Silver Lake lakefront. Both have their own entrance and bathroom/shower facilities. The dump station and potable water was easy to find. Sites do not have water hookup, so we filled up our fresh tank before heading to the site. I would imagine larger units might have a more difficult time navigating through the trees and making tight turns. SITE 12 ON THE LAKE SIDE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST SITE! Double-sized end/corner lot with a perfect view of Silver Lake and the dunes. Nice beachy area right across from the site where you can put your kayak in, or watch the sunset from the bench there. Showers are unisex single stall with a bench, and each have their own locking door. Bathrooms and showers were always clean. We will always love this park and plan to return many times!
Tracey R — Google review
Don’t attempt going to this beach unless you are in great shape. From the parking lot to the beach is about a three-quarter of a mile hike up and down the sand dunes. The dunes are amazing, but be ready for a workout.

We had an amazing time at Silver Lake Buggy Rental! The check-in process at the store was smooth, and we started by watching an instructional video that explained everything clearly. After that, we headed to the park where Jake, our guide, took us on a 20-minute tour. He was an excellent instructor — friendly, patient, and made sure we felt comfortable and confident driving the buggy. Once the tour ended, our rental time officially started, and we had an absolute blast exploring the dunes on our own. The scenery was breathtaking, the buggies were in great condition, and the whole experience felt safe yet thrilling. Highly recommend this place for an unforgettable adventure in Silver Lake!

This was our first time on the dunes. Silver Lake Sand Dune Rentals was amazing! They were patient and helpful in explaining how to use the vehicles and track safely. Other drivers there were courteous and safe. We did the 2 hour rental giving us time to enjoy the beautiful views and put our feet in the water. Be prepared to be full of sand when you’re done! Highly recommend using them. We had a blast!

This is such a fun experience and I would highly recommend! The staff were exceptionally kind, informative, and efficient at getting everywhere they need to go. The fact you get a 30 minute dune tour that doesn’t count against your time is one of the coolest features of the experience. My girlfriend and I felt so much more oriented and confident in going around the dunes after the tour. I would highly recommend wearing loose long pants and a loose long sleeve shirt, because you will get sand EVERYWHERE. Great experience for couples, or the whole family!

We absolutely loved our experience with Silver Lake Buggy Rentals! Highly recommend using their rentals if you are heading to Silver Lake. The dunes can be scary and crazy but the staff here really prepared us for what to expect. You are assigned a tour guide that takes you on a 30 minute tour of the dunes explaining and showing you how to drive the ORV and conquer the giant hills so you don't get stuck. Our tour guide was Jack and he was seriously the best! Honestly, I was super impressed with our experience. I never thought I'd be able to conquer the dunes in my own ORV but Silver Lake Buggy Rentals made it possible. 10/10 experience!!

We took our kids on this dune buggy tour for my oldest son’s 10th birthday. They even made our adventure, extra special with a surprise! It was a 10/10 and the customer service was AMAZING! Our family enjoyed the guides, the service, the ride itself was so fun, and very safe. The views of the Lake MI sunset were beautiful. We definitely recommend, and would do this again.

My husband and I had an absolute blast exploring Silver Lake Sand Dunes thanks to Silver Lake Buggy Rentals! The entire staff were exceptional and very helpful for us first timers. I’d like to send a special shout out to our dune guide Jack who encouraged us to explore the more challenging peaks, rescued us after getting stuck (Thanks again, Jack!), and then encouraged us to try it again; all while cheering us on from the bottom knowing we had a 50/50 chance of getting stuck again🤣 - we did not! Thanks Silver Lake Buggy Rentals for an awesome day on the Dunes!

We had an awesome experience on the sand dunes! It truly was the highlight of our trip! Everyone at Silver Lake Buggy Rentals is so knowledgeable and so helpful, which was important to me, as we had never done this before!! Being a nervous mama, they made me feel completely comfortable letting our 17 year old take a buggy out himself. I loved that we got a tour of the sand dunes before our time started. This was so helpful! Knowing they were just a radio call away in case we needed them was also reassuring! I’m so thankful my friend recommended this place! We will definitely be returning!!

Really a great experience with the Sand dune rides. The Dunes are well maintained with various levels you could give a try to. The Jeeps are Red and attractive which makes overall experience funky and fun! The beach view and the visit adds to the Dunes ride for a quick slow down after the adrenaline rush. The staff was very friendly and instructions were well laid out. Good gears for communication in case something untoward happens.good place for an activity with a good group!

My girl and I had the greatest time ever thrashing around on the dunes for an hour in our Jeep. Tons and tons of fun was had! Cute little tourist shop inside, super friendly and accomidating staff, best prices around. We paid $165 plus taxes and fees to toy around with our Jeep Wrangler and had lots of fun with it throttling it around up and down the sand. If you come to this corner of Michigan, do this! You won't regret it and you won't find a better price. **Highly recommend**

The Front office folks were excellent. The initial process was also smooth. All the staffs were friendly. I thought the price was a bit expensive(but I really do not know the cost of running a business like this). We took the 1 hour guided tour and 1 hour self drive plan. The 1 hour guided tour was worth and enjoyable. But for me being a first timer the self driving plan was confusing. They did tell us where to go and not to go but it was not clear to me. The exit's are not clearly marked and we can get lost. The whole place is like a market with vehicles coming from all directions. Not an issue with Parrot's landing but the field itself is a mess. But may be Parrot's landing should try to organize their fleet in a specific region. Overall, double thumps up for Parrot's landing. Will do the guided tour again.

What a great experience! For our family of 5n this was a GREAT outing! The guide was great and instruction for attacking the sand was easy. If you are visiting Silver Lake, you need to see the dunes. And, if you don't have your own means to do so (an ORV, ORV Sticker) Parrot's Landing is the place to gain access to an off-road experience that will have everyone smiling and laughing.

Hayden was straight to the point, but very friendly and accommodating. Cars were in good condition and instructions clear. We didn't know whether to do an hour or two. Decided on an hour, and with two young children that was ample. We had a great time bouncing around in the sand!

Mac Wood's Dune Rides offers a true outdoor adventure that’s perfect for families, friends, or anyone looking to experience the beauty of the Silver Lake sand dunes. The ride lasts just under an hour, making it a quick yet memorable excursion. The real highlight is the knowledgeable and friendly drivers—especially Scott—who not only navigate the dunes with skill but also share the fascinating history and stories behind them. The ride includes a few scenic stops for photos, adding to the overall experience. If you're in the area, this is a must-do activity that combines fun, education, and natural beauty all in one thrilling ride.

Always a fun adventure with Mac Woods Dune Rides! I've been here many times over the years with my wife, friends & family and always have a memorable experience! Our drivers/tour guides have always done a great job with narrating along the ride, sharing a lot of history of the area and a handful of good jokes. the entire Mac Woods staff is friendly and attentive. The rates are reasonable and the ride itself is comfortable. there are many great views to enjoy along the ride as well. the dunes are fantastic and the ride is quite smooth. love the different water views too! Bonus:they have a cool little store there with snacks & beverages and a few cool atifacts to check out. PLUS, there is a great ice cream shop right next door! If you visit the dunes without your own buggy, This is the way to go!
Rob V — Google review
Great family fun! You just show up and reserve your place in line (no way to pre-book as far as I could find). Macs has a decent gift shop and a shaded area to wait on benches. We waited about an hour, but it wasn't so bad. We walked across the parking lot and got some food and ice cream and cam back to hang out for about 20 minutes before our dunes scooter (the truck) was ready to load-on. Now for the ride, we had a GREAT driver, Scott. We got a quick rundown of what to expect, a little bit of history, and lots of jokes. We felt safe and comfortable the entire time. The scooters drive much fast that I thought!! I held on a couple times, but again, totally safe. I had my 7 and 11yr old kids with me. The stop at Lake Michigan wasn't something I expected, it was cool having the beach all to ourselves. Scott was great moving around giving each group some time if they wanted pics taken or more dad jokes. When you go, ask your guide if they know if the seagulls on the beach are male of female. (Scott can, 🤣) A fun trip. Took about 50 minutes. Would do it again if I was in town with some folks that haven't been before.

My family and I had a BLAST at Mac Wood's Dune Rides! We even decided to do it a second time before our trip was over. Both times we had awesome guides! I can only remember the name of our second driver, Scott, and he was great! You can't get tickets prior, but honestly, it is worth the wait. They have public restrooms, sell snack and souvenirs, and yard game while you wait! Also, after they had an area available to rinse the sand off your feet if needed. It's a must stop, one in a life time activity!

Mac Wood’s Dune Rides (Visited 8/10/2025) Our visit to Mac Wood’s Dune Rides was absolutely unforgettable! We had the pleasure of riding with Walton, who has an incredible 32 years of experience driving the dunes — and it showed from start to finish. His skill behind the wheel was matched only by his extensive knowledge of the dunes and surrounding area. He shared fascinating facts, pointed out hidden features, and sprinkled in plenty of well-timed jokes that kept everyone laughing and in great spirits throughout the 40-minute adventure. The ride itself was a perfect balance of breathtaking scenery and pure fun. There were moments that felt just like a rollercoaster — thrilling drops, sharp turns, and bursts of speed — but always safe in Walton’s capable hands. The trip is also full of photo opportunities: sweeping dune landscapes, Lake Michigan views, and unique natural features you won’t see anywhere else. One of the highlights was learning about fulgurite, a rare and beautiful glassy formation created when lightning strikes the sand — something truly special to these dunes. Before or after your ride, be sure to check out the gift shop. It’s packed with great finds including toys for the kids, cozy clothing, and fun accessories to remember your trip by. If you’re in Michigan, this is a must-do experience. As the saying goes: "The dunes are Michigan’s shifting mountains — climb them with your heart, and they’ll stay with you forever." We’ll definitely be back for another ride. **Five shining stars!** 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Little Sable Point Lighthouse

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks

1874 lighthouse on Lake Michigan offering views of the surrounding forests & dunes.
This has never been open to climb during any of my visits, but caught it open this day. Worth the 8 dollar fee to climb. Standard spiral stair climb, 3 landings to rest if you get winded. Plenty of room at the top and on the catwalk outside. Not much room under the lens to get a photo of that though. Info on walls inside about history. Very nice.

Beautiful lighthouse with a small town feel. We loved our experience even though it was very foggy. The little trailer to buy tickets and souvenirs is adorable. We loved the information the guide at the top told us. A must see!

Wow! This is a cool piece of history and an amazing place to visit. My wife and I were fortunate to visit the lighthouse the day when we could tour it. I climbed the 130 steps and enjoyed a beautiful view of the lake and shoreline. The view was worth the $8 admission fee.

Absolutely love visiting this lighthouse and the beach here. I hope to come back many, many times. The lighthouse tour was really cool. The volunteers were knowledgeable and kind. The water and beach here is pristine. I’ve never seen water this clean at a lake. My family and I visited in mid September, there was no fee to park. We paid to do inside the lighthouse.

This is a really cool lighthouse and well maintained. The beach and dunes are really clean and taken care of plus it's just a beautiful view. Plenty of parking, restrooms, and benches to just relax and enjoy the view.

Great location with lighthouse set on a wonderful beach, I didn’t go into the lighthouse on this visit but I do intend to at some point in the near future. It wasn’t too busy when I was there middle of July although there was still a little queue to get into the actual lighthouse, I guess they only allow so many in at the one time.
Brian M — Google review
Beautiful old lighthouse, yet very different from most around the area in it's brick construction. Easy to walk to from a nearby parking lot. There is a tiny camper set up in the lot where you can buy a few souvenirs and also tickets to enter the lighthouse and walk to the top. It's 130 steps up to the viewing deck, but it's free to just walk out onto the beach and check it out from the outside. The beach here is clean and gorgeous. One of Lake Michigan's numerous pristine beaches.

Great place for certain families! We stayed from Monday thru Thursday. Not too busy probably because of spring break! The staff was amazing very polite and took care of us. Water park was fun kids loved it only complaint is it’s very slippery in some areas. Our room was amazing in the Thoroughbred suites! Only complaint is we booked a jacuzzi suite and first night it leaked all over the floor when we filled it up.mazing main level heated parking! Steak house was amazing food! A little pricey but well worth it!! Rustlers roost the pizza is probably the worst greasy pizza I’ve ever had highly do not recommend! Service was great though! Arcade was pretty pathetic lots of machines just ate our money and the prizes are just ridiculous! Overall though double jj resort is well worth the stay.

This was our second time coming here and first time staying at the campground. The campground itself was great and maintained well and a perfect spot next to The Back Forty. One of my daughter's favorite parts of the weekend was going to the Craft Corner at The Back Forty. Paula, the activities coordinator there, was amazing! She was very friendly and welcoming and it made the experience more enjoyable. They had different activities to do throughout the day which gave a nice break from the water park.
Margaret N — Google review
I’m really on the fence about this review because I try to stay positive, but overall, the experience just didn’t match the price point. We paid over $1200 for a 3-night cabin stay, and unfortunately, it didn’t feel worth it. Check-in is already quite late at 4pm, but when we arrived, we were told our cabin wasn’t ready. That was frustrating.... especially after driving by what looked like 50+ empty cabins. When we finally got to ours, the smell of garbage nearby was awful. For such an empty property, it’s surprising the trash hadn’t been taken care of. There is a circle of 10 cabins, all of which share one single fire pit, which I thought was strange. The cabin itself wasn’t great. The AC unit was extremely loud and seemed to be broken. Out of all the available cabins, it’s hard to believe we ended up with the noisiest one. We also paid nearly $200 for our family of five to use the waterpark, which felt disappointing. Honestly, for what we spent, access should be included, especially since several things were broken or clearly in need of repair. There was even poison oak growing on the wall near the hot tub, and leaves from it had made their way into the water, which felt unsafe and totally neglected. There were plenty of staff members around, but many didn’t seem engaged or proactive. We did enjoy the horseback riding (which we also paid extra for), and while the ride itself was nice, the guide seemed checked out. After the ride, he immediately walked off and began complaining about our group immediately...all of whom were first-time riders just trying to enjoy the experience. The place has potential, and there were a few enjoyable moments, but for the price, I expected much more. Better communication, cleaner facilities, and a bit more care from staff would’ve gone a long way. Right now, it just doesn’t feel like a good value.

If you overlook the deferred maintenance, age etc., the resort offers very nice amenities and plenty to do. Do not expect modern anything or squeaky clean accommodations, but rather expect more of an old motel motif. People were super helpful and accommodating.

Well, the course was in very poor shape. The fairways were very long and and if you hit in them you couldn't find them because they were all clover and you couldn't find a ball if you wanted to. The pin placements looked as if they haven't been changed in a month and very very shaggy. The greens were very shaggy and slow. We seen one worker and he was mowing around the clubhouse. Take that back seen other workers but they were all on their phones. I would not recommend this course to anyone. We had heard it was a premium course but I don't believe that.

Honestly I’m at my wits end. I had a reservations for 2 nights with a 2 night minimum. We had an emergency back home on night one and tried to call and discuss options. The staff was pleasant on the phone but said I need to speak to a manager who would be in at 9am. I called at 9, and told not in yet. I called at 10am to say we are checking out regardless and told to leave a message for manager who would call me as soon as he is in. I did that. Then nothing. Called again today to discuss what happened and told they think he is in his office and I was transferred where it went to voicemail, which I left again. I understand that I may or might not get a refund on the second night which we didn’t stay for but the lack of desire for management to speak about and the number of times I have tried to speak with them is frustrating. I didn’t even get into all the issues with property, that I wasn’t going to stress over but the dishwasher was loaded with dirty dishes, hair in the shower, the shed next to unit had trash all over, and something would make an ungodly noise outside every few hours. Very disappointing. I waited patiently to speak with some while we rushed back to deal with the emergency.

Check in was very easy. That’s the end of the good for a little bit because I’m going to chronicle this in order. We booked a Homestead Condo. Ours was a lower level unit #340. We walked down some wood stairs that had no slip protection on them and they get slippery when wet (heavy downpour at time of check in). We use the key to open the door which we had to really push to get to open. The deck would have been nice except there were no chairs and the built in seating faces the unit not the scenery and had exposed nails which we found when my husband snagged himself on one. The furniture in the living room looked to be 50 ish years old and there was a very musty smell in the room. No light bulbs in the lamps in this area and no phone cord so that is basically just decoration. The kitchen area was sparse, 3 forks a couple spoons and similar for dishes. So we would have had to wash dishes after every meal. The fridge is leaking because the seals on the freezer are shot, the mold on the existing seals indicate this has been ongoing for awhile. Bathroom is nice, but the door is not level so closing it completely for privacy required work. The master suite would have been nice. Would have been. The light in the wall in closet didn’t work and there were no hangers. The jetted tub has seen better days but we did not get a chance to try it. Which brings us to the bed, a nice king size bed that was broken. So we called the front desk, maintenance came said they needed to get a bracket. We left to go have dinner came back to what is shown in the pics. They replaced our king with a queen, removed the footboard and just left the headboard unattached to anything and leaning on the wall with the replacement shoved under it. This likely would have fallen over on us had we not moved the headboard into the useless wall in closet. So at least now the closet served a purpose. I call the desk back and tell them this is unacceptable but there are no rooms available to swap into it. So we stick it out for the night and plan to talk to a manager in the morning to get this resolved, being told the manager gets in around 10 am. We wake up Sunday morning and go to breakfast, which we paid for in advance. They basically served us microwave pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, and some type of potato. Thankfully there was also some cereal and bagels cause it was not quality food. This would repeat daily with minor variations each day. We head to the front desk to catch the manager only to be told there is no manager working on Sunday. I explain what’s been going on and get given an email address to contact someone. SERIOUSLY? We get back to our room and there is the absolute worst smell, like there was a busted sewage line. That’s the end of my patience right there. I call back to the desk and ask for maintenance. After 30 minutes I call back to be told they only have 1 maintenance person working and they will be there when they can, at this point we are packing to leave. The front desk girl who was very nice tells me she was able to find that a manager is working and I said good, she needs to be here in this unit in 15 minutes. The front desk calls back and says they were able to locate a suite and would upgrade us for free and that maintenance and housekeeping were on the way. We left that room having never seen either. The new room is very nice, and no smell. So finally we are settled and can take our daughter to the water park. What a joke. Broken down equipment in the toddler area, just a general look of disrepair. Like they build it and think rather than maintain it they will just build new when people stop paying to come. Every piece of this property is rundown and not adequately maintained. The staff while pleasant is mostly kids and you can tell they don’t want to be here, there is not enough staff overall. Management is a joke. We were so excited to come to here with our daughter and it’s really the worst family vacation we’ve ever experienced. We have opted to stay vs trying to find a new hotel and just go off resort for food and fun.

I fell in love with this place the first time I saw it! It’s actually a Resort campus with not only an awesome golf course and clubhouse with a restaurant, but it has the best driving range I’ve ever seen with eight indoor/outdoor Toptracer hitting bays and a Sports bar attached called The Bunker. On top of that there’s The Pavilion event center for weddings and receptions🎯⛳️🙌🏻👍

Over all a nice course,,,drove an hour and a half to play it,,,fast greens, nice fairways, great ppl working there, nicely laid out course,, water does come into play on a few holes,,,very scenic on a cpl holes

Course was in fantastic condition when we played here. Fairways were well maintained & greens were fairly fast. Very picturesque course with some beautiful views on a number of holes. I didn’t use the practice area before our round but it looked top notch. Overall very happy with the golf & we will definitely be back.

The course is great. The staff and crew though, are even better! Treated like family every time I come home to play. Special shout out to Ryan who works out there! Forgot my clubs one round (LOL), and without hesitation, Ryan let me use his for the round. Next level service and care for their golfers/customers.

Beautiful course, greens fast and true! Fairways gorgeous, rough is trouble but playable ,fair. Only reason for 4 is couple holes under construction but we are in fall season and fall rates. Only negative to us was trying to figure out where to go on a few holes, minor. Will absolutely play again!

First time playing here - what a great track! Ate dinner after 9 and with the heat index, they took care of us and gave us a rain check for the other 9. Top notch service from Bill at the Pro shop, and our server Ashley in the restaurant. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

This course has the best terf around with some what short holes that are challenging and beautifully kept all though the 10th hole wasunder construction and that was not made very clear. Had a good time and a great round of golf would recommend

I would come back simply for the Cajun fries! The service was fantastic. The food was amazing- we tried the pb&j burger and the jalapeño burger. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu! Highly recommend!

I've had better. This was my first time at the Blind Squirrel. It seems like a fun place to go and watch sports or hang out with friends. There is little to no privacy when it comes to seating, so if there are a lot of people in there, it's very loud. The service left something to be desired. I ordered the Jalapeño Burger well done. It was far from well done, but by the time we got our food, I decided to bite the bullet. The Cajun fries are delicious, but for the price, you don't get a lot of bang for your buck. They have a large menu, and it may be worth exploring. Just be prepared to spend $20 per person.
Markus R — Google review
The food (steak) was quite good. The service was good. The atmosphere was a bit loud, but that may be because there was a competitive slapping celebration going on. The "special" as listed online was not honored and there was a 3% admin fee on the bill. The 3% fee is what gets me. If you need to change your prices, go for it. If you just want to sneak some extra money out of your customers, that's not cool. Won't go back and won't recommend the place as long as this policy is in place.
Matthew — Google review
The food here is great, just be careful when ordering their mushroom burger, it is in fact not a burger but just a mushroom. Other than that this place is great, I would recommend out door seating, it gets crowded inside.

We have been to this place a number of times for just bar food. Tonite we ordered a pretty disappointing dinner. My Asian salmon was good but the vegetables and mashed potatoes …bleh. No seasonings no sour cream no pizazz no jazz nothing but bleh…salmon itself was good because of the Asian sauce.. Hubs ordered the Cuban…bleh…no sauce, no sparkle no seasonings just plain … bleh… used my Asian sauce to dip it in just butter on a Cuban that wasn’t even dressed like a Cuban…plain pork buttered bread and a dill pickle slice…we will stick to the wings. Atmosphere, bartender, drinks? On par. Dinner we should have got wings, fries and called it good. Live and learn hopefully just a one off night.
Jean T — Google review
Went to The Blind Squirrel and honestly left disappointed. The food itself was fine, but I felt nickel and dimed for every little thing. Want sauce with your meal? That’s an extra charge. It’s frustrating when what should be standard is treated like a luxury. It made the whole experience feel more about squeezing dollars than providing value. On the plus side, our server was attentive and did a good job. Unfortunately, great service couldn’t make up for the pricing model and the overall feeling of being upcharged at every turn. Not sure I’ll be back

Took almost 2 hours to get our food. Well done burger was still mooing. Send it back, it came back microwaved with a soggy bun and hard as a rock fries. Ended up leaving and ordering a pizza. Thought maybe it was a bad night and we did end up trying it again and it was just as bad.

Went there for a 3rd grade field trip. My kiddos loved it and the employees are dedicated to providing a unique experience for these kids. Wish I could post more photos, but since there were classmates in them, I don't want to put other people's kids online, but I will say the staff were so patient and understanding with the kids. Also informed about the era they were working within.

This is a wonderful place to visit! We were initially told it would take1.5 - 2 hours to complete the trail. A little over 4 hours later, we were finally done. It was a slower day, which allowed us to spend plenty of time at each station, talking to the guides, asking questions and learning about Michigan's rich history. The staff were very knowledgeable and happy to allow us to interact with the displays. For example, I learned how to spin sheep's wool on a spinning wheel, which is trickier than one expect. As noted, the staff were knowledgeable. They are well educated and trained. It is clear that each of them is passionate about history, authenticity and preservation. They are wonderful resources. The displays are beautifully created and maintained. I highly recommend a visit to Michigan's Heritage Park.

What an awesome place! I really like the layout and displays on the path showing Michigan history in a very practical way. I highly recommend this to others. My only complaint is that the signage off of Holton-Whitehall Road is not the easiest to see while driving in traffic.

Took the grandchildren to Heritage Park. They enjoyed all the hands-on activities. Lots of interesting Michigan history exhibits to see. The outdoor trail is paved, so it is handicapped accessible. Has various stops/ exhibits along the pathway, with interpreters for most exhibits. Includes a Native American home and how it was built, various furs, spear throwing practice, grinding corn. Next is a Trading Post /Fort; an 1830s Settlers Cabin; an Underground Railroad exhibit; a Civil War Camp; a Logging Camp Shanty; a 1900s Farmhouse; a Civilian Conservation Corp Tent; .... all pertaining to Michigan history. Well worth the visit.

White River Light Station

Historical landmark
Museums
The White River Light Station, established in 1875, is a captivating historic lighthouse that now serves as a public museum. Visitors can explore the museum and even climb its spiral staircase for stunning views of Lake Michigan. The site offers an opportunity to delve into Michigan's history through fascinating artifacts and photographs. Additionally, the location provides various activities such as fishing, swimming at the sandy beach, and observing boaters from the dock/boardwalk.
Whitehall & Montague, Michigan are no doubt two of the most beautiful towns to visit along the Lake Michigan coastline, And White River Light Station & Museum is a must see when visiting! We have been there many times and it never disappoints. The lighthouse keepers are always very friendly, welcoming and quite knowledgeable. It is a beautiful and well kept piece of Michigan's maritime history. the views both of the lighthouse and from the top of it are spectacular! We love going up with our binoculars and viewing the surrounding beaches and the boats coming in and out of the channel or those far out on the big lake. Walking out the pier is nice to. great place to capture some awesome photos. Bonus: Be sure to check out there website if you're planning a visit, they have outdoor live music and other great events throughout the summer.

The light house is cute and secluded so it was packed with a bunch of people which was nice. I walked down the pier and down onto the beach which was also not packed with people which I LOVED. I took my 10 month old and 2 dogs and we didn't have any problems. Only thing is if you have to use the bathroom you'll be using a port-o-potty so just be forewarned.
Elizabeth M — Google review
Hidden gem of a lighthouse and beach. Small museum inside a renovated light house. Make sure to make time to walk the south pier (less than half mile round trip) or use one of the nice benches to watch the boat traffic in the channel. Nice wide sandy beach as well if you have more time.

Michigan's Adventure

Water & Amusement Parks
Michigan's Adventure is a local amusement park that offers a wooden roller coaster, seasonal water park, and various other rides. However, the size of the park and the number of rides available may be disappointing for some visitors. The food stands were not set up during a weekend visit, and many of the rides are old. As an amusement park related to Cedar Point, it was expected to have more and newer rides.
A charming smaller amusement park, with friendly staff . I actually really enjoyed this park . Yes it's much smaller than many , but it is very nice and has a decent amount of rides. I'd say the best one is Shivering Timbers, which was surprisingly smooth overall with a few rough spots ( I expected it to be much much rougher) . The water park also looked to be really good, though I only walked in there and looked around. Overall though if you're in the area I'd definitely say check this park out ! Only real negative I can say about my visit was that thunder hawk was down the entire day unfortunately. I had really hoped to get a ride on it , maybe sometime in the future!
J — Google review
A smaller family friendly theme park with a nice water park inside. If you're looking for dozens of crazy coasters this isn't the place, but if you can get by with a couple, want a water park, or have younger children this is a great spot. We went in a nice day in the middle of the week shortly after opening. The line to get in took less than five minutes and we walked right on to the first few rides. By mid day it was a little busier, but certainly not crowded. Only waited in one line over fifteen minutes including water slides.
Chris F — Google review
My kids had a blast here, the ticket prices are fair and there is tons to do here. They have a large variety of rides for all ages. They are even chubby-friendly as my hubby was able to ride everything with ease! The park is clean and well-maintained, and the staff was mostly friendly. Some staff had attitudes, but most were nice. The food prices are OUTRAGEOUS! The burger and fries were 16 bucks and it was a frozen over-salted patty. Was gross. That was the only downside. The drink cups are so worth it! Pays for itself. I will be back a million more times its well worth the money. Just pack a lunch!
Mary R — Google review
Feelings of nostalgia as you see some classic rides mixed in with the new. We had a great time at both the water and amusement park. Affordable and perfectly sized for a day full of fun all ages can appreciate. Over 8 water slides to match all thrill levels! I would not purchase the food plan, it was a waste and did not include beverages. Honestly, if you eat breakfast before hand, you will only eat once around mid-day because you are captivated and having such a wonderful time. You truly only want a cold beverage or ice cream.
Shameka B — Google review
Had a lot of fun at the park! Shivering Timbers is such a fun ride! We spent two days at the park and overall had a great time! The good: -Park is clean, does need a little maintenance such as fence painting. -Shivering Timbers, Wolverine Wildcat, Sea Dragon, Logrun were all very fun! -Beer Garden was a nice spot to relax at both the water park and amusement park! -Lines are not super long! Except for Wild Mouse. (That one they need to figure out) -The train that takes you from one side of the park to the other! Super fun! -Season passes work here! Along with season drink pass! Huge win! The bad: -The water park smelled like poop. Legitimately spent most the day gagging because I kept getting smells of it. This was my biggest complaint of the entire park. -Could use a few new coasters. I know a lot of funding gets allocated toward Cedar Point, but this park is in desperate need of a few smoother coasters. -Food options! Not many great food options. We ended up spending $60 on a pizza there for all of us! Insane! Overall, I would rate the park 4/5! It's a great family park and love not having to wait 3 hours to go on a ride. Super fun two days were spent there!
Tiffany S — Google review
We had a great day at the park! The mobile app for the park was a life saver! It told you how to get to the rides you wanted to ride. If you were looking for food, it guided to there. It was very convenient and great to use. Having upgraded to the drink plan was handy! Anytime you were thirsty, just stopped at any one or the drink stations and get your beverage of choice! Looking forward to going back real soon!
Sheryl B — Google review
Went last week for the first time since I was a teen. The park was much bigger than I remembered, and the water park was AMAZING! My daughter absolutely loved it. Also, everything was super clean, and when my daughter and I got separated at one point, staff were quick to help out and had already located her. The only thing I HATED was having the tote my own raft up the stairs. The rafts were REALLY heavy and I didn't have any help. After the first time, I told my daughter we couldn't do any more rides that required lifting. Also, more shade while waiting in lines would be nice. Just the same, 5 stars. We had a blast!
Julia M — Google review
it's a fun and great place for family fun!! be prepared, no cash. i found this out the hard way. and holy cow, i remember when tickets used to be $25 to get in, for both parks. now, it's $25 for parking, $60 entry fee (just to get in, riding rides or not) and an extra $69 for the Fast Lane passes. just giving people a heads up on things that i didn't know. ♡ also a recommendation: ADD "fast pass" rides to the water park too! side note: Thunderhawk was down, super disappointing!

The USS Silversides Submarine Museum in Muskegon, Michigan is a spacious museum dedicated to honoring and preserving the military history. Visitors can explore the 2-story museum building, tour the preserved WWII submarine USS Silversides, and visit the prohibition-era U.S. Coast Guard cutter USCGC Mclane. The museum also offers activities such as overnight camping experiences in a submarine, shopping at their store, and attending various events. In addition to its expansion with the Robert G.
It’s been many years since I’ve been here! This museum has changed in a major way. They have an indoor up & down stairs area. The indoor explains submarine function & history also including other service branches & units. The upstairs mentions the US Merchant Marine, a Marine aviator, USGI field equipment, war posters and various ship models. The Silversides could be a better museum. It would be nice to see an indoor exhibit of submarine escape w/ lockout chamber explaining, how SEALs enter & exit a sub. It was also awsome to meet the curator! I do recommend checking this place out. 👍👍🇺🇸😁

We loved it! Museum is full of WWII info and related stuff from the Silverside. The sub is still amazing after all these years. Everyone was friendly. Attractions inside are interesting with lots of real objects to see and explore.

For those into history, this is a must see. I toured the submarine , and it was amazing that we had that kind of technology back then in those tight cramped spaces. It's nothing like what you see in the movies. Nothing. If I lived in the area I would go back a few more times by myself. So I could read every little detail and tour the sub again.

We visited the Submarine Museum and ship in October 2025 for a Scouting America campout—and YES, we actually spent the night on the sub! Total bucket list experience. The Museum The museum is really well done and gives a great history of submarine warfare and this specific boat. There’s a short film in a small theater, several walk-through exhibits with artifacts, and a nice gift shop. It’s the perfect warm-up before going on the ship. The Submarine Most of the sub is still intact and you can explore the main areas. Just remember—it’s a real submarine, so the spaces are TIGHT. Very cool to picture 72 sailors living and working in those close quarters. Overnight Experience This was the highlight! We had pizza on the 2nd floor of the museum, then got a few hours to explore before loading onto the sub for the night. Scouts slept in the torpedo room and leaders stayed in the crew quarters. It felt surreal to sleep where the actual sailors once did. If you’re anywhere nearby, take the time to visit—and if you ever get the chance to do the overnight program, DO IT. It was an amazing experience and I’d go back in a heartbeat!
Jody G — Google review
The museum has both indoor and outdoor sections. The outdoor part features a submarine that you can board and tour. The indoor museum displays exhibits on World War II history and the USS Silversides submarine. It has two floors, with most of the exhibits located on the first floor. There is also a theater. While the video may not be professionally made, it is helpful to see a recording of a typical tour guide inside the submarine. Both sections require paid admission. Overall, it is an informative museum and worth a visit.
QL Q — Google review
An impressive museum! It’s self guided and fairly priced. There are a lot of things to read, some interactive exhibits including a periscope to look through and the submarine to tour, a well-stocked gift shop, and theater to watch a short film. They include world history spanning hundreds of years and Michigan and the Great Lakes ship building during wars. I would visit again.

Who can be the first to get this right: how many gauges are on the USS Silversides? Clocks count (a gauge of time); indicator lights do not. Just ballparking, maybe 300? Subs are highly complex - no wonder they required a large crew. I've toured many historic warships; I don't recall seeing one in better condition inside. Kudos to the preservers of this historic sub! There are a lot of interesting things to notice, like diesel engines that compress the fuel & air mixture from both sides! We enjoyed the museum too; it was like a WWII refresher course.

Visitors can explore all levels of the ship from the engine room to the top level.

This museum has so much more research and history than I could have ever imagined! They have created a retired ship into such a great learning opportunity for people of all ages. They have a lot of different aspects of the military on display and different wars! They have done a great job of restoring and preserving the history of this ship.

As a navy veteran I felt right at home exploring the ship. I highly recommend watching the video to the right of the gift shop because it shows how the LST approached a shore, unloaded its cargo, and then was able to exit the shore. I was amazed how much cargo a LST could carry. Do be advised the ladders (stairs) are very narrow and steep.

Well restored ship with some of the best military museum pieces I've seen. Definitely worth a visit!

A genuine treasure for the city of Muskegon. This WWII LST (Landing Ship Tank) during the war there were almost 1,200. Only 2 survive today.

Museums
The Muskegon Museum of Art, established in 1912, is a charming museum showcasing an impressive permanent collection of American and European artworks. Visitors can admire works by renowned artists such as Edward Hopper, Winslow Homer, August Rodin, and more. The museum also boasts a contemporary studio glass collection featuring pieces by Dale Chihuly and Dante Marioni. Originally known as the Hackley Art Gallery, the museum houses original works purchased through the generous Hackley Picture Fund.
Great place to see some art! Visited the Festival of Trees exhibit in 2023! Cost was $5 plus general admission of $10. They also had other cool displays too like Oddities & Delights cheeseburger and cow displays! In addition to the general art/displays they have.

Loved the gift shop! The art work was beautiful! Ended up going there on Thursday by chance and it was free to get in!

The museum is beautiful with a diverse collection of artwork! The pieces were stunning and interesting! There were a vast number of techniques and textures, from leather carved pieces, glass, wood etc. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable! One staff member in particular was attentive and enhanced the experience!

There is a beautiful glass collection to view which is one of the best presented I've seen, the lighting is perfect on each object and the totally blacked out room makes every single piece glow. I was there to see this year's Michigan Contemporary Art Exhibition. I have a piece included and am very honored to be in it. Beautiful exhibition spaces and very thoughtfully hung. This exhibition is totally free to view, as is the parking lot behind the building. Highly recommend

“Do you love the world?” I do! So there! - Jeanne Monteagle Julia Child is a cool chick. It’s worth it to pay the extra coinage $8 to see her exhibit. Thursday’s are free - fyi. I would have easily been there 3-4 hours. Nice, well curated exhibits and a refreshing/ enlightening way to spend the day. Love your life. Exactly as it is.

First time visiting this museum. We went to see the Art Nouveau: Age of Elegance exhibit. Didn't disappoint. This museum is expansive and offers many styles and mediums from glass to oil and canvis to sculptures. 12$ entry fee is well worth it.

It's been quite awhile since I've been. The new addition is very nice. Check the website. There are days that offer discounts made available by some local foundations. Wear good shoes the concrete floors can be hard on older bodies. Check out the portable chairs. They are light enough to carry and make it good to rest and look at individual paintings.

The Hackley & Hume Historic Site in Muskegon, Michigan features two Queen Anne Victorian homes that belonged to lumber mill owners Charles Hackley and Thomas Hume in the late 19th century. These homes have been meticulously restored to showcase their original grandeur, with period decor and ornate carvings, stained glass, stenciled walls, and ceilings.
Enjoyed a interesting historical tour at two beautiful Queen Anne style homes and carriage house. We had the best, engaging tour guide that shared many interesting facts. I'm so glad we made this stop when visiting Muskegon.

Loved this place! So much history and intricate art work, the restoration work shows a lot of care and tour guides are always reaching and learning!
Lindsay N — Google review
All the homes and experiences at this stop were top notch. I've toured a lot of historic homes, all over the country, and these homes were in my top 5. The staff was amazing and they have done a fantastic job preserving these homes. We truly got to tour the entire home and the attention to detail is outstanding.

I LOVED visiting these historic mansions and Terry was an amazing tour guide. Both mansions have been lovingly restored and it was fascinating learning about the families and local history. We also visited the Fire Barn. A must see in Muskegon!

We didn't take the tour but walked around the grounds. Houses are beautiful with very distictve architecture. Easy access via street parking out front.
Rorie M — Google review
We love going through these old mansions. We've been here for Christmas and other times, but this time we took the "backstage" tour that is a guided tour into places the regular visits don't allow. Our guide did a great job on this "white glove" tour showing us things you don't normally see and answering our questions. All the ropes were down, so to speak, and we saw EVERYTHING!

This place is spectacular. The tour was so interesting. We had Beth for a guide and she was top notch. We enjoyed every moment. Even the little store and the lady who cashes ylu out is enjoyable. Everyone was so kind and you get to view a total of 5 buildings with your 15$!!. It's great!

Impromptu stopped in Muskegon, and we found the historic district. Beautiful homes on this street. Worthwhile, if passing through and looking to do something on a road trip. We did the tour. No A/C.

Pere Marquette Park is a picturesque public beach located on the shores of Lake Michigan, boasting white sands and stunning views of a lighthouse. The park is home to The Deck, a beachfront restaurant that has undergone significant renovations over the years to offer live music, ample seating, and family-friendly activities. Nearby, Dockers Fish House at Harbor Town Marina provides visitors with delicious dining options and breathtaking views of Muskegon Lake.
We watched the sunset on the beach here and it was absolutely stunning. The sand is so soft and bright. It’s a decent walk from the parking area to the shoreline, but worth it. They have a huge park, a pier you can walk to a lighthouse and great public restrooms. There’s also a cool restaurant chill space that hosts concerts called The Deck. We will be back!

This was my first time at Pere Marquette beach. It was absolutely lovely. I enjoyed the walks along the pier. The scenery was just beautiful! I came at a good time, as there was no paid parking after September 15th. The beach was clean the water was clear. I've been passed here on busy days and I don't think I would want to be here when it's busy but today there was very few people

I love this park. I drove all the way from Ohio just to see this beautiful beach and to see lake michigan. Such a beautiful site to see that words just can't be put into. I visited it most recently and it was really crowded but that's to be expected in summer. My last visit before this summer was when I lived in muskegon and I visited in late fall/winter and that was also wonderful. But just very cold. 🤣

Great beach. The water and sand was clean. They have bathrooms and changing areas. A small café with a small menu and ice cream. Outdoor shower to rinse the sand off. A large playground. A walking mat for easier walking to the beach, this is great if you have a wagon or in a wheelchair. At the end of the walking mat they have tables for family's that have someone in a wheelchair in their group. They even have an area with tools for bike repairs. The restaurant The Deck is also located on the beach. The Deck has great food, drinks and entertainment on certain nights. The only con is that they raised the parking fee to 10.00.

The beach was great beautiful. Parking enforcement is terrible. You can see by the pictures I posted that there was one meter out (there was also a second one out, not pictured) that had two parking enforcement patrols park adjacent to the meter that was out of order, both actively writing tickets for cars parked near the meters that were not working. What a terrible way to represent the city.

clean sand with rocks, pebbles, or shells unless you in the water even then it's clear. plenty of parking on both sides of the beach and way more usable beach then in prior years

Nice place, you can go up into the light house for $5. When its open for tours. All volunteers and the money goes to restoration of the 2 harbor lights. Very knowledgeable guides on site
Steven T — Google review
Beautiful clean beach with a playground. Bathrooms were clean and the sunset was absolutely stunning. Highly recommend the lighthouse tour and a walk out to the brake light. Parking is $10 for the day, you can come and go.

Nature & Parks
P.J. Hoffmaster State Park boasts a range of attractions, including the Dune Climb stairway, an observation deck with views of the lake, and extensive hiking and skiing trails. The park is well-kept and features an educational center that provides information about local wildlife. Families with children will find plenty to do here, as there are numerous maintained trails to explore along with access to a beautiful beach area.
Probably the prettiest beach we've seen. The sand is beautiful the water is clean and the beach is real long so it's possible to escape the people when it's 95 degrees weather and everyone is at the beaches. There's lots of parking too.

Nice trails. They are remodeling the visitors center now so it’s closed by you can walk around the construction to get to the trail heads. The new visitor center is going to be great. Minnesota does a great job of improving the parks For us all to enjoy.

Nice state park. Clean restrooms. The beach is a hike from the camping grounds. Beautiful trails for biking and hiking. Beautiful beach. Not a 5 star only because its not super close to the beach, quite a hike to it and no full hook ups, only electric.
My D — Google review
Tall trees make for shaded sites, most sites seem to be a close enough walk to the trail to the beach. Pretty large state park overall but didn't feel overcrowded with most sites filled. Will be back someday from MN!
Josh P — Google review
State parks are supposed to make you feel relaxed and inviting but it doesn't feel like that here, the park attendant came up to our rig (truck & travel trailer) first thing telling us that they don't have trailers like this in here, so... please if your going to be up there park so you can pull out cause it gets packed up there... so, we pull in and find a big motorhome up in the top parking lot and their not packed facing out... why are you discriminating our rig? Not friendly at all here, came to grill out and enjoy our afternoon as a family! Everyone is speeding and it looks like all they hire is children

We sure enjoyed our camping here! We had perfect weather and there was no mosquitoes. The water was refreshing and the camp host was so friendly! The newly rebuilt, bathrooms and showers were wonderful to use. This is our favorite place to go camping and we look forward to our yearly weeklong camping at Hoffmaster State Park!!
Karen M — Google review
Amazing beach and nice campground. Plenty of showers and fairly clean. We were fortunate to not have anyone on either side of us because there isn’t much separating each of the sites.
D B — Google review
This park is clean, well-kept, with a modern and well maintained restroom. The beach area is spacious and clean as well. One of the best beaches to visit along Lake Michigan. Definitely the best in the Muskegon area.
