War museum with over 5,000 artifacts from U.S. conflicts from the Revolutionary War to the present.
If you are looking for a place to escape the rain or summer heat or winter cold, this is one of Quincy, IL best kept secret. The museum is full of displays contributed by local veterans. The pond next door is a great place to relax and think about our historical pass and our future.
William L — Google review
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is there so much stuffed into one wing of the building that you can't properly appreciate it all. Fortunately, they will be renovating in the near future.I asked that they announce it on social media when they're finished. I'm looking forward to seeing it better!
Billy T — Google review
Whoever came up with the name "All Wars Museum" was spot-on, because this fairly small museum contains exhibits from virtually every war America has fought. The very friendly fellow who works (or volunteers) there told me they have 3 times the amount of stuff on display, and will be expanding their space in the near future. I will definitely come back for another visit because my timing was bad on this trip, and I hope to see it when the other two-thirds of the exhibits are available for viewing.
Rob T — Google review
I have had bad experiences here yet . it was really nice, almost all of it was taken down the pipes. Haven't seen that many times before. attention paid to detail and the start was slow and you could tell it was really being enjoyed . but the finish was a complete miss. Kind of made it all feel like a waste. But that's ok . I was promised a free tour . So all good
Dave B — Google review
Great collection with area specific memorabilia. Great museum staff who gave extra information not contained in the plaques. Contains everything from models to weapons to uniforms to flags to honor for local heroes. Highly recommend.
Matt R — Google review
Brought my three kids ranging from 8-12 years old. We spent about an hour browsing and learning. The staff is great and we were pleasantly surprised with our experience. Our GPS initially took us to the wrong entrance and we had to figure out how to get in on our own, but it wasn't too hard.
Liz S — Google review
Very interesting, the volunteer didn't show up ... And I called , to ask if they would be open the next day, and the lady who I talked to told me to come in and she let me and ,my future, son in law take a self guided tour .. couldn't ask for a better experience

You won't regret this stop. The house the museum is in is absolutely gorgeous, filled with oak and birch woodwork. Many of the windows are original curved glass. The exhibits are interesting and the third floor is great for curious kids.
Amy T — Google review
Basically it’s a house of a millionaire of 1880 or so. His living style is the main attraction. They added a few section in the third floor for the kids and collected some other stuff for the visitors.
Dr. S — Google review
The museum had a nice blend of exhibits from the first floor which showcased the house with 1900s decor to the second floor showcasing local history to the third floor which had multiple kid friendly exhibits that are still interesting for adults.
Christine M — Google review
Cool experience! A beautiful historic home with very knowledgeable people sharing the history of the house and of the world. They were efficient in their timing and knew how to usher the kids in an organized from one exhibit to another. There’s a cool dinosaur exhibit.
Rebecca B — Google review
Great guided tour with many stories included, some about neighboring home owners and issues of the day. See original household items from the original owner. Some items from neighboring homes. Many household items from the same time period. Beautiful woodworking within the home!
Cathie C — Google review
It was a very beautiful place to visit. Lots of History within this Museum! Was a little hot and the air wasn't working when we visited but it was well worth it the tour was amazing!
Jessica P — Google review
This place isn't like a lot of other museums...not as much to show..maybe not as much to do...but for a small town museum there is great variety. I rated 5 stars because they have kept a lot of the home original, which i think is awesome. Also, it appeals to both children and adults as it has an entire activity room, and animal area, and gives lots of info on older times, wars, etc. The atmosphere here is wonderful. Homey yet professional. I think they have good prices, great balance, and are doing a wonderdul job.

The town's visitor information center, in a historic North African–style villa built in 1900.
Beautiful old mansion overlooking the Mississippi River on a high bluff. The owner traveled throughout the Middle East and built a Moorish mansion in Quincy, Illinois. Very cool place to visit.

Stumbled upon this place while I was geocaching and I’m so glad I did. It is incredible and gorgeous! I am so thankful to the Friends of the Castle for working very hard to preserve the magic that exists inside and outside of the castle. Pictures truly do not do it justice!
Bailey C — Google review
I enjoyed the location and the story. Disappointed that there was so little history left due to renovations and changing hands over the years. Stunning view over the Mississippi though and everybody there was super nice.

Closed at 10:06 am, 6/28/25. We drove to see it because.according to website and sign at the building it opens at 9:00 am. Beautiful view of the river.
Glenda R — Google review
Unfortunately the power was out when we visited so we did not get to do the tour. The lady allowed us to walk around the first floor anyway. It was interesting to see, I'll have to come back when the power is back to do the full tour! The visitor center section had some driving maps, I'd recommend the Mid Mod driving map tour. It was a bit confusing to follow occasionally but worth to see.

Beautiful piece of history. $3 to take a small tour. Very helpful staff, Ray was very pleasant. Little gift shop and free pamphlets for the immediate and surrounding areas.

We had a very cute room! This is a very cozy little bed and breakfast with a “French” theme. It’s located in town of some odd 3200 people and has a very warm atmosphere! We loved the layout of the hotel and look forward to revisiting in the spring/summertime!!! There is also an amazing French restaurant affiliated that you must look into as well! We will be back and would definitely recommend you give eagles nest a try!
Dream I — Google review
Very quaint bed and breakfast, although not really any breakfast, the owner, Guy Crouch, had the coffee ☕ pot ready and had snacks for the guests. Love the room decor! Owner was very nice, met up with us to allow us to check in early since had a wedding to attend. Definitely recommend staying here if ever need to visit the area. This was about 15 minutes from our venue however, had the highest ratings by far from closer places (that were very poor rating's at same price or more)!
Shelly E — Google review
There was no management on site when I stayed a Fri/Sat night. Therefore, there was no coffee or snacks as advertised, which was disappointing. The room I stayed in had a broken window (which they knew about, as there was signage posted not to open it) and could not be closed. As a woman traveling alone with a child, it was disconcerting. It also meant that I was constantly woken up by the train about 100 feet away. The trained blared all night long, jarring me awake repeatedly. The restaurants advertised as being within walking distance were all closed up and there was no microwave or fridge in the room, so we lived on gas station food for 2 days. Overall it was just an unpleasant experience and I didn’t feel safe with the absence of management my entire stay and a broken window in my room.
Alyssa V — Google review
The wife and I, her brother and his wife, stayed 4 days and nights at this B&B and we would not recommend this. The initial impression of the rooms were good, but once the shower was turned on the panic set in. We had noticed the staff had rolled up towels and placed them around the bathtub but were not sure why as it had a very nice plastic curtain. We quickly found out the bathtub had been installed and tiled in such a way that unless you jam towels around the circumference of the tub, water would pour out onto the floor when the shower was used, as there was no drain back into the tub and the tub was installed higher than the surrounding tile. (See photo). The wife and I were in room 1 and her brother and his wife were in room 2. We of course told them about our initial mishap and they laughed and said theirs was exactly the same. They had the same panicky experience of trying to prevent Niagara falls when using the shower also. When my wife was younger, she worked as maid in hotels and because of this, she always strips the bed every day to make it easier for cleaning staff. She also notices what is cleaned and what is not. Although the beds were made, the bathrooms were not cleaned properly during our stay. We asked the staff about the bathtub issue and they said oh, yes that has been a problem for 15 years. I said, you know a $25 wrap around shower curtain and bar would prevent that, they said, yes but the owner won't do that. Wow. Breakfast was included with the stay and my wife and her brother laughingly kept an eye on the pastries in the bakery as they did not sell, and were not discarded and replaced. Most were unmoved/unsold during the duration of our 4 days, gnats included. The fresh breakfasts were good especially the omelettes, but we steered clear of any pastries or baked goods. Our stay started on a Tuesday and we finally met the owner on Saturday morning. Her first statement to me was..."is that your vehicle?" I said yes, she said "well you need to park it across the street we only have 5 spaces available for our restaurant customers." I said, well I am one of your B&B customers (at over $100 a night) and should you not have your staff let a guest know not to park in front of the B&B? She said "well they should have told you". So I said, well I always leave Google reviews I'll let your potential customers know this fact in my review. So, now you know. (There is no rear parking or alternate parking except across the street in front of the bank.) That was my only interaction with this person. It should be noted that there were only 2 customers seen in the bistro/bakery during the time we were there. The town of Louisiana was quaint, but is a decaying ghost town that had many empty and dangerously crumbling buildings down town. Any attractions or entertainment was elsewhere. We left that Saturday morning, and the four of us left with the understanding that while we regularly enjoy our B&B experiences (in fact this is my first poor experience) we will not visit this particular one again.

We stayed one night December 2021. We were promised connecting rooms. Ours was on 3rd floor our friends on 2nd floor. Never once were we greeted by any kind of management. Our room had trash on the floor and someone’s leftover food in the refrigerator. The commons area was about 8x8 square foot area on second floor and the coffee pot in the hallway. Single serve boxes of cereal was their idea of breakfast…no milk. The town was dead and we had to drive out of town to eat. We enjoy going to different bed and breakfast but this is definitely a thumbs down 👎
Betty A — Google review
Unfortunately I didn’t get to stay here. I arrived around 3pm after traveling 12+ hours & no one was there to check us in. I called the number on the door & no one answered. I left several voicemails & received no call back. We were finally able to track down the owner who didn’t know he had anyone checking in & was out of town. We scrambled to find somewhere else to stay that night. He told us he would see if he had availability when he returned the next morning. Luckily the place we stayed at had a cancellation so we were able to extend our stay there and when we called the owner at the Eagle’s Nest he was bothered that we called his cell phone (which was the only number we could reach someone) to let him know we were no longer needing a room. My aunt who traveled from Colorado was supposed to stay there as well & was never able to get checked in either. Very unprofessional. I highly suggest booking elsewhere. 10/10 do NOT recommend.
Kassiana R — Google review
For the price it was a nice place, had a small problem with the bathroom and Emily the manager immediately accomadated us with a larger room. No meals are included in the price but there is a self-serve station to get coffee, snacks, juice, milk and ice. Downstairs is a small bakery that serves breakfast and lunch. The rooms are clean and comfortable. All in all I would stay there again.
Edita J — Google review
This was a nice place. I have it for stars because it's an upscale place which is really not my thing. That being said, it was nice and food items we had were appropriate for the decor of the place. Light and earthy feeling. If you are into the healthy, upscale locations, this might be the place for you. The menu is fairly limited but they did seem to have several options for wine if you are interested.

Mark Twain Cave, located in a park-like setting, is a must-see attraction for fans of the famous author. The cave has been inspiring scenes in Twain's books for almost 150 years and is known as the original American show cave. Visitors can take guided tours to explore stunning rock formations and underground streams while learning about its role in Twain's stories.
We had a very enjoyable stay. Check in was very easy. Our campsite was easy to find and get into. Campground was quiet and very clean. And so close to everything in town yet had a quiet country feel. So easy to get into the cave tours and the tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. We will definitely come back to this campground if we get back to Hannibal.
Jim S — Google review
We stayed here overnight in an RV with 2 toddlers. Tessa was wonderful and SO helpful with suggestions around town and things to do. Daniel did an amazing job with our tour and was super patient with our 2 year old that was just not having it. Lastly, Bobby... she was incredible. She gave such an awesome trolley tour and was also really patient with our kids. When we got back, she helped my daughter do the sluicing and pointed out the different stones. She is so knowledgeable, and she added so much value to our stop here in Hannibal. The campgrounds were beautiful, had laundry facilities, showers, clean bathrooms, and a few play areas for our kids. I wish we had time to do Cameron Cave, go down by the river, and the winery...but it only gives us a reason to come back. The only negative thing is the play equipment was a little run down and the shower curtains were kind of gross. All in all, I can't wait to come back to visit. Truly a beautiful piece of history in this little town.
Jessica S — Google review
We can’t say enough good things about this RV park. We travel for work and sometimes have a hard time finding a place that is nice for both pets and our kids. The park itself is lovely and spacious. Plenty of walking space (trails for pets) and a playground for the kids. The staff are extremely nice and helpful. The manager Jeremiah was very patient and helped us get settled when we first arrived. If we ever come back to the area we would definitely stay here again. Thank you to all the staff who work here! God bless.
Amy C — Google review
We were there at the end of the season so it was very quiet. The restrooms were OK - we've seen better showers. I liked being able to access the trolley city tour right there on premises. We also attended the live Mark Twain show, again on premises, & walked over to the winery for a tasting. It was nice to have activities right there - now if there'd been a place to eat a meal...
Chuck K — Google review
Came here for the cave tour and our guide Peter was great! Lots of jokes and knowledge of the caves & history. Really enjoyed the gift shop, it was well put together and clean. Thanks!
Josh N — Google review
We went the weekend before Halloween when all the festivities were going on and it was a blast! We stayed at the campground. It was clean and very well maintained. All the campers were very nice. The staff was amazing! There is plenty to do right there! We went to the winery and had some delicious wine. It was a very comfortable atmosphere. Jessica took very good care of us. We did the candlelight cave tour and Jessica and Ella were fabulous guides! Very fun and entertaining. Full of knowledge and history. They really know their stuff! This will be our new go-to for Halloween camping! Also, they did trick or treating at the campground for the kids staying there and the community. Seeing all those children having such fun does a heart good! Looking forward to our new tradition!
Southern M — Google review
Just for the cave tour; we didn’t stay on the campgrounds. The cave is incredible, and the tour was fun and informative. My favorite part was when our guide turned off the lights and you could imagine trying to get around without candlelight. Highly recommend.
Veda C — Google review
This is by far one of my favorite camp grounds. We just happened to be there during the Halloween festival. The campers went all out on decorations and trick or treats for the kids. Facilities are immaculate. They even have a dog wash and laundry. I would give it more than 5 stars.

The Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse is a tribute to the renowned American writer, Mark Twain, located in Hannibal, Missouri. Situated on Cardiff Hill in a 10-acre park, this lighthouse offers an overlook reached by climbing 244 steps and features storyboards about the author's life and legacy. The area holds significance as it was a favorite play area of characters from Twain's novels.
Great view of the Mississippi River and town of Hannibal from the base of the lighthouse. You walk up the stairs in the pic to get as high as the base for the great view. It look just a few minutes to walk up the steps.

This was absolutely incredible! Climbing up those stairs got my heart pumping, and the views were breathtaking. As my husband and I took it all in, we spotted a massive barge gliding through the majestic Mississippi River. It was truly a sight to behold!

Great views! There are a lot of stairs, especially if you walk from the bottom. We did make it up the hill in a bus.

Beautiful, amazing, splendid! Totally worth the stairs! The view from up by and behind the lighthouse is breathtaking. As someone with breathing issues, I suggest taking your time on the stairs or they'll be breathtaking too.🤪

This museum showcases not only Twain's childhood home but also artifacts and exhibits that highlight his family life, school experiences, and early career as a printer's apprentice.
Very well done and adventurous. Very informative and fun interactive displays along with an adventurous path of discovery from museum and the various houses and locations relevant to Mark Twains life and legacy. All the volunteers were very friendly and informative, as well.

Like going back in time to a grade school field trip, learned a lot actually, well worth it if you have the time to read everything, $14 adults, $12 Seniors, $10 kids. I had no idea really how brutal life was just a short time ago , well kept and clean, polite informative staff. there was a lot of other people and I didn’t really get to take pictures of the inside of the tour, but I did get some nice shots of the river Park, which is a short walk and enjoy the scenery.

Cute little town on the Mississippi. We stopped here on our way home from trip out West. The historic town has a lot of beautiful building, it's an easy walk around the town to see everything. We went to Becky's Old Fashioned Ice Cream to treat ourselves, the Huckleberry flavor wonderful. A lot of Mark Twain references and memorabilia.

Rockcliffe Mansion is a grand Georgian Revival house constructed by Hannibal businessman John J. Cruikshank, Jr. in the early 20th century. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it serves as both a museum with guided tours and a bed and breakfast. The mansion boasts opulent Victorian and Art Nouveau furnishings, along with unique architectural elements. Situated on a limestone bluff, it offers stunning views of the Mississippi River and surrounding areas.
This mansion tour is amazing!! Juan was a phenomenal tour guide, talking about history and providing fascinating information! I can't believe this house has gas and electricity before it was even a thing! Seeing the rooms and different themes was amazing and well worth it. I highly recommend taking the tour!
Elizabeth S — Google review
Pictures fail to capture the full beauty of this historic mansion. It is essential to visit, stay overnight, explore its attractions, and revel in its splendor. We had the pleasure of meeting the hosts, who were delightful. For breakfast, they prepared a two-course meal that was exceptionally flavorful. Freshly brewed coffee was hot and ready to initiate the day. For dinner he recommended a local restaurant, which served exquisite cuisine and provided exceptional service.
Sidney M — Google review
Don’t be turned off by the exterior, it’s a little rough, but they are in the midst of restoration. The work has concentrated on the interior and has been done with care and an eye toward returning it to original. Juan is a great tour guide with mounds of information and patiently let us take our time in each room. It’s easy to see that they care about this building and its history.
BearBait R — Google review
What an absolute treat. Warren and Juan were fantastic. They are involved in a labor of love restoring the Rockcliffe mansion. The money they get from the guests who stay is poured right back into the project. I recommend showing up at 4 the first night for the tour of the mansion to get to know the place before you stay. It is well worth it. It has one of the best views of Hannibal. Jaun did a fantastic job showing us around and relating the stories of the mansion. The script writing was aided by one of the Cruikshank children, and it was marvelously done. Warren and Juan were very knowledgeable about the house and the local area and very personal. We had a blast talking with them and the other guests during our stay. Breakfast was very good. This is our go-to place in Hannibal to stay now. If you want more than a room but a historical experience, this is your place to stay. Check out their website or their YouTube channel. You will not regret it.

Had an awesome stay. The host were great. If you plan on a stay you should check out the cemetery on the hill were Mr. John Cruikshank is laid to rest. Awesome place to visit also, right next to Lovers Leap. Steve L.

The Ratcliff Mansion tour was an unexpected highlight of our visit to Hannibal. From the moment you step inside, you’re transported back in time. The restoration work is impressive, preserving the mansion’s original charm while adding just enough modern context through thoughtful storytelling. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable—not just rattling off dates, but bringing the home’s history to life through the lens of the Ratcliff family and Hannibal’s local legacy. You can feel the care that went into each room, each piece of furniture, and each story told. If you love historical homes, elegant architecture, or just want to experience something beyond the usual Mark Twain circuit, this tour is a must. It’s not overly long, but every minute is rich with detail. A true hidden gem in a town full of history.

This was a very unique place to stay. It was fun and very interesting to stay there with ALL THAT HISTORY!!!! THE breakfast was also a great experience. Wonderful store with a long history and friendly staff! My kids adored the m&m covered chocolate pretzels in addition to the assortment we picked: milk chocolate toffee, caramel, chocolate covered turtles, truffles, orange cremes, etc. We will definitely be back for more sweets!

I carefully selected the candies for my box. I was so excited to try them all! I ate one piece of chocolate covered toffee (delicious) then went off and left the rest of the box on our hotel room 🤦🏻‍♀️

Some times you go to a candy store and nothing tastes as good as it looked. Not so here, everything we bought tasted even better than expected. No old stock from last season...
Gerald B — Google review
I was there this past week. Took a mixed pound of delicious chocolate morsels. The caramels for the turtles were fantastic, soft and creamy. I could go on and on, they didn't last the day as I had to taste each one. Bankhead and Aloha Pizza, two good reasons to visit again.

Wonderful selection of delcicous chocolates. Great service. Cute little place.

Looks small on the outside but opens up on the inside. Chocolate is excellent. Has been around for about 100years.

Many varieties of great candy, Exquisite chocolate! A lovely, family run shop. Paige, who helped us and our grandson, was very nice and knowledgeable. We will definitely return.

The owner is the sweetest woman I've ever met! Her chocolates are delicious! You can truly taste the love and effort she puts in to what she creates! Brought them home from Missouri to my kids in Alabama and they were begging me to back and get more!

Mark Twain Birthplace State Historic Site

Very cool little “museum” off the beaten path. Entry is free and you can read though a lot of Twain history in the displays. The little house is a bit underwhelming other than the fact it is an ancient preserved home.
Eric S — Google review
Wonderful place! The museum is very impressive and offers an insightful and detailed look into Mark Twain's life. Outstanding that the cabin he was born in is actually preserved within the museum building! Makes me want to read more of his books. The nearby "Barefoot Sam Trail" is on offer to walk around, but it's just an okay trail without much to offer. If you're into hiking, try the trails within Mark Twain State Park just down the road.
Debra A — Google review
Great place to stop and learn a little history about Mark Twain! There is an overlook and nice little trail to walk also. Everything was immaculately maintained, with clean restrooms too! Gift shop was fun and reasonably priced. Had to get a post card and stuffed animal for my daughter! Thank you for a wonderful park!

Mark Twain Lake was truly beautiful, offering a sense of quiet serenity. The scenic views across the water were breathtaking, making it a perfect place for peaceful reflection.

I was on the way to a different location and had a little time to spare, so I decided to drive quite a few miles outside of my travel plans to see the site. When I arrived, I discovered that they were closed on Sunday of the July 4th weekend, 2025. Needless to say, I was disappointed. It's a beautiful park and the building is nice; I sure would've liked to have seen the inside, though. Hopefully some day my husband and I can make the trip again on a day when it's open.😕🤷🏻‍♀️🇺🇲🙏🏻

Worthwhile stop for some interesting history on Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain. Helpful staff, gift shop and restrooms. Interesting collection and original home.
C L — Google review
A good stop, it reminds me of Abraham Lincoln's boyhood home. They moved the home of his birth to the site and built around it to preserve it. A decent museum that includes furnishings from his homes in later life and information about his wife and children. The area is beautiful.

Mark Twain State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Bluffs over a sprawling lake, 6 miles of hiking trails, vast wooded areas & lots of wildlife.
Great first visit. Came with the dogs hoping to hike and we were not disappointed with ~6mi of looped trails and several safe lakeside swimming spots that the pups enjoyed. The trails were well maintained and the park was clean and safe. We will be back for sure
Braden Z — Google review
Mark Twain State Park is an absolutely lovely place to spend some time in nature. Facilities are well maintained and the M.W. Boudreaux Memorial Visitor Center is beautiful. There's an abundance of wildlife year round.
Catherine B — Google review
Great park to wander around. I have been on all the trails and walked a good portion of the forest. Always have a good time.
Jason F — Google review
Always love a long hike or even a short walk here. The water level was very low on this visit. Also a great place to find arrow heads and other stone tools.
Jason B — Google review
We had an amazing time here. We are moving from Washington State to Pennsylvania and found this place to camp for a few nights. The bugs are pretty bad in July so bring some bug spray. They have bathrooms, pit toilets, showers and even laundry! All facilities are really clean so if you have pit toilet anxiety...fear not! The grounds are well kept and the hosts are so friendly and more than helpful. Mark Twain's childhood home is there and a cool site to see. I do have one con- THE RACCOONS ARE SO AGGRESSIVE! There needs to be signs. People feed them...DON'T DO THAT! They got on my car with my dog inside, in our trailer....got their little hands on some things but we were able to pick it up. Don't leave food out, put something heavy on your cooler as they can open it. Watch your kids and pets at night and make sure animals are UTD ON VACCINES! We will absolutely return if ever back in the area. Missouri is magical and beautiful. Thanks for everything!
Nicole O — Google review
Great hiking trails with good views. However…note that this area is absolutely laden with ticks. Before hiking here, I followed all the normal precautions…sprayed bug repellent, wore pants, tucked pant legs into my socks. After doing a three mile hike I found at least 15 ticks (!) walking around on my clothes. We had to pull at least a dozen ticks off each of our dogs. Not sure I’d do these trails again with that much tick exposure.
Alex H — Google review
Very quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. Few boats out on water. State Park, so zero commercialization.
Darrin W — Google review
This was my first visit to this location (from St. Louis) and we had a great time. I rented a tent site and the lot was even and shaded, seemed like most were. Plenty of space also. There is a side that had a neat playground for kiddos, walking trails, and the workers were wonderful. Bathrooms and showers were not too far from any site and clean. My pup loved it as well (just make sure they have their tick treatments, we all found a few so be sure to check yourself too!). Overall it’s a nice place to camp and we will definitely be back!

Amazing experience!! The zip lines were so fun with some really beautiful views. Our guides, Ryan and Mike, were very knowledgeable and passionate. We would definitely go back!! Such a great value as well.

We did this for our son’s bday. 4 teenagers actually put down their phones and enjoyed nature. The scenery is beautiful. Mike was a great tour guide and safety is their number one priority which is very reassuring. We will definitely be back!

We had a fun time Saturday at Eco Adventure Ziplines. They're between Columbia & St. Louis for my KC friends. If you have a road trip planned, they made a fun stop and their smaller zipline is for ages 3 and up! The owner designed a patented braking system that made it simple for the adults to slow down at the end of the cable. We loved the family-friendly atmosphere. Popsicles at the end for the win! The owner accompanied us on our private tour and his enthusiasm for his job was obvious.
Megan R — Google review
I was very excited to try zip lining for my first time ever! Mike and Brandi (sorry if I misspelled that) truly made the experience easy going, fun and friendly! I liked how we eased into the zipping with a shorter line, at first. It gave me an idea of what to expect going further. The landscaping is extremely beautiful and Mike has made the lines go naturally with the land. The views were breathtaking. Mike's braking system made it very easy to slow down as well. (I had no clue that other places may tell you to slow down, by using your hand and placing on the line.) I went for a girls' weekend and I couldn't have asked for a better (first) experience! I definitely recommend this for EVERYONE and all ages!! Thank you so much!
Amy K — Google review
Our first time at a zipline and it was great. It's a beautiful setting, a few easy to follow instructions, no ladders or bridges - just a couple of sets of stairs. The well designed course makes it easy to gain confidence. You can do it!

We had an awesome time. Mike was great with the kids, ages 16 and 7, and my aunt who is in her 70s. Everyone had a great time and my husband and daughter did the treetop tour

Endless Summer Winery

Wineries & Vineyards
We recently visited Endless Summery Winery as a group of 10 friends, and it was an unforgettable experience! The owner, a lovely lady, welcomed us with a warm smile and gracious hospitality. She offered us a complimentary tasting of all their wines, allowing us to truly enjoy the variety and craftsmanship they offer. The tour of the winery’s manufacturing warehouse was both informative and fun, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at how their exceptional wines are made. Throughout our visit, she was incredibly kind and made sure we felt welcomed. The genuine passion for her craft, paired with her warm and friendly demeanor, made the experience all the more special. If you're looking for a welcoming, personal winery experience with great wines and hospitality, I highly recommend visiting Endless Summery Winery.

Wonderful wines! There were so many unique wines! & Louis, the owner was so kind & so knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the wines & spending time outside enjoying a couple of glasses while my kiddos played in the yard! If you like unique & fruity wines with a low key atmosphere, you will love this winery! & the wine tastings are free. It doesn’t get any better, in my opinion
Emilee M — Google review
Do you like fruit wine, but hate that after taste? This wine is made from the fruit, if it’s lemon wine it’s all lemon. With exception to 2 wines the pecan & Jalapeño wine have raisin in with them. I take everyone that visits, and everyone I know here. The wine is exceptional. I have a hard time picking a favorite. But I could drink the lemon-lime wine all summer long. The drizzles are so tasty. Lois and Mark are wonderful people. I can’t wait to go back with my girls! THIS IS A MUST STOP, if you’re in Hermann Area. Don’t skip it!
Mary G — Google review
Highly recommend! Wonderful owner-operator. Delicious fruit wines at very reasonable prices. Free tasting. Fantastic frozen wine slushy drinks. Also have several delicious cooking sauces. Pleasant property to sit and enjoy with friends and family. Indoor and outdoor seating. Small gravel lot/driveway area for parking at side of building.
Joshua S — Google review
Highly recommended for lovers of fruit wines. Large variety to pick from and all are done well. Wine slushies available, along with wine by the glass or bottle. They also have a few snack options available for purchase. Nice covered area to sit outside and drink your wine in a quiet setting.
Jess E — Google review
We just had an exquisite wine tasting with Louis the owner. Their wines are very unique and that they are fruit based. Wonderful and unique wine tasting experience that I would highly recommend!
Clay B — Google review
There's nothing I can say to properly do justice to this small winery in rural scenic Missouri. It was a fantastic experience. Each wine was like a little flavor explosion. The owner was a chef for many years and now specializes in creating unique wonderful fruit wines. This is NOT your uncle's homemade fruit wine! I purchased jalapeno raisin wine for cooking and drinking. It's surprisingly good for drinking as just a glass of wine. I can't wait to use it in my chili and a bloody mary. Lemon lime wine, blueberry wine and two bottles of pecan wine were added to my purchase. Yes, Pecan. The owner also makes sauces and they were delicious. I bought two bottles of pineapple habanero. I"m looking forward to experiencing all of them. I believe online ordering is available and I'll be taking advantage of that.
Stacey H — Google review
They have real fruit wines and NO GRAPES WINE. Some of them taste great. First time I like other wines except grape ones. They have some jalapeños and spicy 🌶 wines. Bought one for cooking food, that taste so yummy and spicy 🤤. They let you taste their wines for free. I would recommend this place to others.

Graham Cave State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
State park with archaeological exhibits, caves, hiking & camping, plus boat access for fishing.
Didn’t camp, just hiked around. Had a great time!! I did the loop all the way around and really enjoyed it. The trails are well marked and easily navigated, bathrooms were very clean, and water from the fountains was clean and tasted good. I saw tons of wildlife, including these great tortoises. Bring tick repellent and check yourself before you go home!
Axel O — Google review
Great place for camping, hiking. The boat ramp could definitely use some cleaning up as it is very muddy, and the ramp is also covered in muddy, too, making it difficult to put a kayak in and then get back out afterwards. If the boat ramp were cleaned up properly it would be a great place for water entry and exit from a kayak or small vessels.
Craig P — Google review
A decent state park with reasonable prices (no reservation fees if you pay the camping fee at the campground self pay station, which is located at the front of the shower house right after the dump station). $14.00 for basic campsites $2.00 discount for seniors or disabled. Electric sites must be reserved according to signage at the campground, but you can reserve them by phone at the park. Almost every basic campsite was open when I visited in July. No reservation is necessary. You can check availability on recreation. Gov. Shower houses are a bit old but there was very hot water and they were normal showers. No push buttons, thankfully. Some parking areas were uneven, but most are just fine. Picnic tables and fire pits and plenty of shade, thank goodness. Creeks were all dry, cave was pretty neat, trails are OK, poison ivy is everywhere ... typical of most places in Missouri in July. Peaceful and decent.
Rebecca L — Google review
Easy access off I-70 to well maintained hiking trails. There is a lot of wildlife (pileated woodpecker, whitetail, turkey, and waterfowl) along the river. They also have restrooms, lots of parking, and playground equipment.
Elise J — Google review
My family and I have visited this park many times. It has great trails and plenty of primitive potties. There are lots of neat things to see and with different seasons new things to look for! Enjoy!
Marianne — Google review
So fun- lots of great trails and walking- cave was great! We sat at a picnic table at the play ground for an hour after trekking to the cave ❤️❤️
Emily P — Google review
It's a nice park the cave isn't much just a overhang but it has a paved trail right to it . Good picnic area and playground for the kids.
Mitchell C — Google review
Interesting state park. At the edge of two ecosystems. Ozark Highlands and Glaciar Plains. The cave itself is pretty typical of a rock overhang in the woods in the area, but a lot larger. The cave is fenced off, so you can't really go into it. The park is about 5 minutes off the interstate, so it is a great place to stop and stretch your legs.

Sights & Landmarks
Immerse yourself in the rich German heritage of early Missouri at Deutschheim State Historic Site in Hermann. This state-owned park preserves buildings dating from 1840-1890, offering a glimpse into the area's German settlement period. Explore the Pommer-Gentner house, one of the oldest surviving structures in Hermann, and visit the charming Hermann School Museum. The site celebrates German American culture through daily tours and self-guided exploration, capturing the ambiance of a traditional German village.
Great tour guide knew his stuff. It is worth the visit to learn about the roots of the area.

I stopped in just to have a look around and wound up having a very interesting conversation about Hermann with the gentleman that works there. He is an absolute wealth of information. If you ever visit Hermann, stop in and learn about this fascinating little German town.
Lori P — Google review
Very informative tour guide. It was a lovely experience. You tour a Piano maker's home/workshop and a wine maker's home/store. Not wheelchair accessible. I did ok with my cane with my husband's help.
Rebecca S — Google review
Jackson (our tour guide) was a total rock star! He shared such interesting stories and truly made Hermann feel like one of the most historically significant places we had traveled to. He was also extremely accommodating when my boyfriend had some allergy issues (old buildings=mold smell) and catered his approach to our needs that day. As avid travellers, I can say we were both very impressed!
Jesse F — Google review
After hearing about Hermann for years from my friends, I decided to stop by and visit with my mom on our way back from a weekend trip to STL. This is about 20 miles south from I-70 down a lovely one lane road through beautiful rolling hills. The settlers were very intentional in their location as this was close to the river but still close enough to other civilized towns to be able to participate in commerce. The Deutschheim State Historic Site features extremely well preserved buildings dating from several centuries ago. Craig was very knowledgeable on the area and even suggested when fun festivals/holiday celebrations were going on so we could plan a future trip back. As you can see by the photos, it has that European historic charm you'd see in places like Philadelphia or Boston but all within the midwest. Definitely worth the stop. Gift shop includes post cards, books, stamps for holiday cookies (resin, soap, etc if you wish) and you can get stamp cancellations here, too!
Aubrey A — Google review
Aiden (spelling?) was one of the best tour guides we've had in a plethora of tours at myriad museums. His love of history was evident. The knowledge at his fingertips was impressive. We registered ahead of time online to ensure our spot and are glad we did. Hermann's history is rich, and we are glad we took time to hear about it.
B. M — Google review
We really enjoyed this small but very good museum. It is in Hermann. Most people go for the wineries but if you get a chance go to this state historical site. The tour is the best part. It takes around 90 minutes but the guides are very informative and excellent. A true hidden gem in mid- Missouri. Entry to the museum is free but the tour cost $5.
James N — Google review
A lovely grouping of preserved buildings from Hermann's early days. They represent the German heritage of the area, and proudly display German architectural styles, interior decor, and more. The gardens are attractive, and the surrounding neighborhood is pleasant. Make time for the guided tour, and be prepared for lots of historic information!

Did not go inside, but walked the grounds of the museum during their Walk Back in Time exhibit. Great displays and everyone was friendly. You can tell a lot of time and attention went into the exhibits. The work was appreciated. The ground were well manicured and so many great places to take pictures.

Interesting place and nice grounds. We didn't go inside, but walked around outdoors on a day when no one else was there. Good for taking a few pictures. The City of Mexico lists this complex as being within Robert S Green Park, and there is a sign to that effect at Hisey St. and Grove St. but Google doesn't list that park at all.

Was here @ the Walk Back in Time event for the 3rd tme & we love it. Be careful with children, though. Lots of military tents and tent pegs. My 7 year old tripped and hit a peg with his hand and needed stitches. Will still come back next year, though.

Though we live in the present and look to the future, it's nice to take a walk back in time. The Walk Back in Time event is a blast. Catch it next time it comes around in Mexico, MO where history comes alive.

It’s worth the time to take a break and step off the highway for a second to check out this old covered bridge. It’s a beautiful view and a piece of history.

This was a great find! We took impromptu family photos and they are perfect. Plan on coming back for future photos. This was after the rain storms and the low water bridge was and we still fell in love with it.
Mystique W — Google review
Absolutely beautiful. A bit of a drive out of the way, but worth it.
John W — Google review
This covered bridge is the only remaining Burr-arch truss bridge, a design which uses multiple king posts and an arch to support the bridge's truss. It was built in 1871 over the Elk Fork of the Salt River. It was nearly lost due to neglect and flooding but it was added to the state park system in 1967 and has been restored and repaired after a number of floods, most recently in 2019. It was closed to vehicular traffic in 1970 and added to the National Register of Historic Places that year. The bridge is 120 feet long, 12 feet high and 17.5 feet wide. It was originally on the road between Paris and Fayette though newer and more modern roads now provide that route. There is plenty of grass parking nearby and it is pretty far from civilization. As such, the inside is well covered in graffiti. Next to the bridge is a low-water crossing that I did not try driving across in the Sprinter van. A picnic table is here and that's about it.
Bruce K — Google review
Neat little historic covered bridge off the beaten path. It was a nice stop on our Sunday drive out exploring the area. Easy to get to. No long hikes. Wheelchair accessible lots of info at the kiosk.
Roger H — Google review
Beautiful site! Enjoyed the visit, clean well maintained. Just missing a picnic bench for lunch.
Rachel C — Google review
The Union Covered Bridge was built in 1871, as part of the Paris - Fayette route, and derives its name from the nearby Union Church, it's now part of the Union Covered Bridge State Historic Site, which was established to preserve the bridge, which is one of only four remaining historic covered bridges in Missouri. A partial restoration was done on the bridge in 1968, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. Although the site has no park or picnic tables, there is a small parking lot, and we very much enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and the sound of the river below. Lacey also enjoyed the opportunity to cool off in the water!
Paul F — Google review
This was a beautiful site. Especially with the fall colors. Was excited about walking across the bridge, however, a lot of the boards were loose across the bottom which made me nervous. Beautiful to look at. I would just advise caution if walking across the bridge

Absolutely Delicious Fudge & Wonderful Service! I stopped by Ozarkland for a quick treat and ended up walking out with a bag full of fudge! Everything was incredibly fresh, creamy, and full of flavor — easily some of the best fudge I’ve ever had. What really made the experience special, though, was the amazing customer service. Amelia was so sweet and helpful, patiently answering my questions and making great recommendations. Her kindness and warm personality made my visit even more enjoyable. I’ll definitely be coming back — both for the fudge and the friendly faces!

This place was a smorgasbord of cool things. It reminds me of the cool little souvenir shops on the west coast i grew up going too. I loved the old fashioned candy and the bag your own taffy. The only sad part was that i really was hoping to get a postcard with the store on it, for my collection and they don't sell anything with the store on it. I'm thinking its a missed opportunity, i bet a lot of people would enjoy a postcard like that. Just a thought!!

Nice selection and easy to access. They are pretty overpriced. Most things you could purchase online for a fraction of the cost. Enjoyable if you just want to get out and stretch your legs. I wouldn't make a trip out of my way to stop. They do have a nice selection of fudge and candy

Lots of awesome cars and a Back to Future car you can sit in. GREAT collection and awesome art throughout the building. It’s NOT just a building with cars. They put time and effort into setting up scenes throughout the museum.
Andrea F — Google review
Plan on spending an afternoon or at least a few hours there is lots to see and read here. There are cars from 1903 to 1980's all excellently preserved. I read a review of this place from a national magazine describing it as a "gem" and it is just that. Veterans and AAA members get admission discounts. Even at full price this would still be a bargain for the experience.
Dre D — Google review
Tom Jones, no not that one, was wonderful and knew everything about the museum. Stated that they have other cars in storage, wish they would expand so everything was in one place! If only someone was selling gas for the amount on the sign in there!

Walking through the museum, you can feel the passion of the person who curated the displays, flow, and decor and the love of the collector himself. If you enjoy stepping back into time and admire the ingenuity and craftsmanship of vintage vehicles, THIS IS A MUST STOP!

America's National Churchill Museum

History museum
Historical landmark
Near the site of his famed "iron curtain" speech stands this trove of Winston Churchill exhibits.
America’s National Churchill Museum may be a bit off the beaten path, but it’s absolutely worth the trip. Located on a picturesque college campus, the museum offers a fascinating experience for anyone interested in history. The museum does an excellent job telling the story of Winston Churchill’s life and legacy, including his pivotal role in world events. One of the most unique aspects is the historic church that houses the museum—a beautiful structure that was carefully relocated from London to Missouri. The interior is stunning. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to answer questions or provide additional context. Outside, you’ll find impressive statues of Churchill and even a segment of the Berlin Wall, reinforcing the museum’s deep historical significance. Be sure to also visit the nearby gymnasium where Churchill gave his iconic "Iron Curtain" speech. For history lovers, this museum is a must-visit. It’s a unique and thoughtfully curated destination that brings global history to life in the heart of Missouri.

Wonderful museum gem located in Fulton, just south of Interstate 70. Want to return and spend more time. Interesting. More appropriate for adults as small children would probably bore quickly.
Suzanne C — Google review
Very informative on world history, not just Churchill's. We enjoyed our visit. Several short videos to watch are very well done. The history of the church was very interesting. Loved being able to see it. Outside is the Berlin wall sculpture. The staff was so helpful and nice, they even gave us directions to a great nearby restaurant!

Great seeing some Cold War museum and see where Churchill gave his famous Iron Curtain speech. I also bought a piece of the Berlin Wall!

Had an excellent time here. Wonderful comprehensive exhibits. Hidden gem in middle Missouri.
Stephen H — Google review
Such a hidden gem! Why is this not more widely known across the state?! Great, interactive exhibits about Churchill and his times. We took kids 8 & 11 who also thoroughly enjoyed it. If you show up close to closing, you can go in free, but it does take close to two hours to do it justice. I believe they said that a ticket is valid for 24 hours so you can come back the next day to explore some more. Tasty tip--hit the Fulton Wurst House while you're in the area.

This is a hidden gem in central Missouri. Plan to spend several hours to get the most out of it!

Laid out chronologically and sensibly. The exhibits are well-presented and informative. The student docents were very helpful and provided us a scavenger hunt sheet suitable for all ages. That connected us more to the museum presentations and helped us get more form our visit. Highly recommended!

What a neat place to visit! My husband and I are both big animal lovers, and it was great being able to pet and feed all the animals. The highlights were "kissing" Leroy the camel, and JJ the cockatoo loving on my husband. ❤️ The owner was really nice and I applaud her for rescuing these animals.

This has to be one of the most amazing places on god's green earth. I have been there 4 different times each time is a new experience. The owner is an angel placed on this earth for these beautiful animals. If you know anyone who is an animal lover this is the place for you to go. Make sure you bring grapes. Those are the baby's favorite treat.

Such a fun place for animal lovers! This is an active farm made up of rescued animals and retirees. From cats and dogs to farm animals, exotic birds and even a camel, we had such a fun time discovering what the farm had to offer. We spent a couple hours there exploring, feeding, and petting the critters!

My children and my mother lovvveeeddd it! We stayed at the house over night, to wake up to the animals was fun and to feed the baby animals the bottles in the morning was priceless! My daughter, now almost 17, still wants a baby pig! An amazing experience, the lady that runs this place is amazing also! Excellent customer service 10/10! I would definitely go back!

Such a cool place!! My kiddos and I LOVED it!!! We made a day trip of it and had such a great experience! They have a bunch of rescue animals and it is a very hands-on experience, which we love! They advertised on Groupon but it's affordable enough that you don't need it... It's a wonderful establishment to support, we will be back!
Amy C — Google review
Me and my wife had a terrific time at this animal rescue. There was a big assortment of animals, pigs, horses, and many varieties of birds. The wife loves animals and couldn't stop smiling the entire time we were there. This is a fun and inexpensive trip for the animal lover in your life so it's definitely highly recommended as a family day experience.

Pinnacles Youth Park

Park
Nature & Parks
One of the prettiest shorter hikes I've been on. There are a few loops into the woods, but they are very short (make a 0.5 mi or less). The cliff side is gorgeous and a definite must see at least once!
Taylor B — Google review
Super fun place to scramble around/on a bunch of awesome rock formations/walls/pillars and treat yourself to some great views of the woods/creeks below. And the best part is that you can very easily choose how technical/adventurous you want to make your hike. If you want just a bit of fairly easy scrambling, that will totally suffice to get you onto a bunch of cool rocks and to some outstanding views. Alternatively, if you want a lot of cliff edges and more challenging scrambling/rock-work, there are plenty of opportunities for that as well. Based on all that, this would be an easy 5 stars in terms of fun/adventure/prettiness; but (at least on the evening I was there) it was a bit overgrown and muddy, and quite buggy/spider-webby, which was just enough of an annoyance to dock it one star for me. (Would definitely have gone with 4.5 if I could.) Lastly, note that (at least at the moment) if you want to get to the rocks without getting wet, you have to cross the creek using the road (near the parking lot). There are some (non-road) trail paths that lead down to the creek throughout the park, but no point where it is actually dry-crossable from any of those.
Brandon M — Google review
Pinnacles Youth Park is a wonderful outdoor area that is enjoyed by people of all ages! There are climbable rock structures, several trails, and an abundance of beautiful nature to take in! I went to this park a ton of times with family and college friends back in the day. It is always a delight to stop back in and explore the area!
Through B — Google review
We went on a hike here while I was visiting from st Louis. There was lots of water access. Lots of people brought their dogs. I found mollusk shells, fossils, and geodes in the creek. There were interesting rock formations and diverse flora (mushrooms, wildflowers, mosses, ferns). Was a fairly easy trail. Picnic area near the parking lot. Not many other amenities as this seemed to not be a state/city/county park.
Madison F — Google review
The pinnacles are a jagged-pointy rock formation that stands about 75 feet high and stretches about 1000 feet long. Bordered on one side by Kelley Creek and on another by Silver Fork Creek, the two streams have been slowly pinching the mass of Burlington limestone separating them, a highly reactive stone that's dissolved by moving water. Some parts of the stone were even carved out entirely, creating little tunnel-like windows dotting the vertical rock face. From the parking area, it is a short walk past picnic shelters and some benches down to the water's edge where you can wade across or just look up at the amazing rock structures. There are hiking trails throughout the park and I saw a number of folks walking, some with dogs. I read that there's a good amount of poison ivy along the trails, so I didn't take a chance. Also, some of the walking looked uneven and following the usual rule of "Never hike alone" I decided not to risk a twisted ankle with no help. At the creek's edge, I was able to find enough stones to make a pretty rock stack. I wonder if it's still there today.
Bruce K — Google review
Hiked the trail on the cliff, which is tough for a beginner. Be conscious of the shoes you wear and long pants are best. The water was great but shallow. Wear water shoes
Melissa C — Google review
A hidden Missouri gem! Such a fun place to explore and climb. We enjoyed climbing the pinnacles. The trails were short but pretty. There was hardly anybody there. I would definitely choose this park for hiking over Finger Lakes which is just south of this one. The elevation was nice too for training.

Finger Lakes State Park

Nature & Parks
Finger Lakes State Park provides a trail system for off-road vehicles, camping, boating, hiking and fishing. The campsites are not entirely even and show tracks and ruts from tires. There seems to be more litter than the average state park which could be attributed to either the people of Columbia or the enthusiasts who frequent it. During peak season one can only imagine what this place may look like or sound like with all its amenities including vending machines.
Havent been here in 20 years. I have to say they have done a great job with the park. Lots of new improvements and added amenities to the entire park. The trails were great. Everything from fast and fun, to technical and challenging, and of course if you want mud you can find it easy enough. The motocross track hadn't been prepped in a while, but was still rideable, and the jump faces were all pretty good. We will be bringing our boys again for sure.
Danny J — Google review
We stopped in on Labor Day weekend, so you know it was busy, but they still had kayaks available. The water was a little stagnant but still a lovely paddle! The checkout system of kayaks was really easy too, they have them in lockers that you access and lock back up yourself right there at the beach. And you can’t beat the price!
Brittany — Google review
My visit to this park was solely for the purpose of hiking the Kelley Branch Mountain Bike Trail. While I thought the trail was "okay" I can see how this park would be very popular with bikers, ORV enthusiasts, anglers, and hunters. While I can't comment on the campgrounds, I imagine they're good - the park is certainly large enough to afford some camping privacy. There's also a "pump track" where I saw someone skateboarding. This place is probably a blast for families!
Debra A — Google review
The park was nice things were well kept besides the bathrooms. The toilets were okay but the showers there are pretty gross.
Olivia R — Google review
Really nice lake with a large assortment of activities including ATV trails fishing and camping. There is an abundance of wildlife and a large amount of deer.
Kameljoe21 — Google review
Really cool campground! We do not have an ATV, but we booked this park since it was the only one available by us for Memorial Day weekend. We couldn't hear the atv's except when they drove to and from their campsites. The lake was beautiful and the beach was fun! Good amount of stars in the night sky. The playground was nice as well. These were the cleanest bathrooms I've come across at a campground. The camp sites were a good size, so that was nice. And there were so many butterflies at our site! The only downside to park was the amount of cigarette butts on the camp site, and lots of people smoking cigarettes on the beach.
Meagan R — Google review
Fingers Lakes State Park has a lot to offer for multiple visits. Most notably in my mind is the kayaking. They have a kind of kayaking course so you can run the length of the lakes, while also giving you a structure (like a hiking trail on water) and it's very beginner friendly. After you get used to it, do at night! I haven't yet, but I did confirm they don't prohibit night paddling, which is awesome! Make sure to bring a headlamp, a backup light, and always wear your life jacket! Additionally they have off-roading trails for motorized and pedal powered transportation, picnic areas, camping, grills, and it appears fishing, which I'm guessing is stocked. There are no fees, and it looks like the park stays pretty busy. I also spotted a pretty massive snapping turtle crossing the road while I was there!

This is a Missouri State Park, off I 40, then off 63 N of Columbia. Just an overnight visit for us. Cold night ( down to 17 F) so we were the only campers/ visitors in the entire park ! So many trails, but dirt bikes and other ORVs allowed so maybe not a great place to hike. I m sure its gorgeous in the spring- fall with all the deciduous trees leafed out and all the pretty lakes throughout the park. We enjoyed a walk and gorgeous sunset. No showers or regular bathroom in this off season, just pit toilets w/ metal seats in a small shed. We had an electric site w/ its parking area paved and gravel area w/ picnic table and fire pit. With tax & online booking fee it was $29/ night. No park rangers or camp hosts. Firewood avail during reg season.

Stephens Lake Park is a serene oasis in the midst of the city, offering a picturesque lakefront boardwalk, picnic shelters, and well-maintained trails. The park's glistening lake and paved trails provide an ideal setting for romantic strolls or invigorating runs. Families can enjoy the playgrounds and free WiFi while taking in the beautiful scenery of flowers and trees along the trail.
Beautiful, very accessible park. There's a great loop around the lake, and there are also trails that lead further away which I'm still exploring! The place is versatile in that there is something for people of all ages: swimming, fishing, play equipment, walking/running/biking trails, BBQ areas, open grassy areas.

Quiet, beautiful spot for a short walk! It wasn’t too crowded on a Sunday morning in the spring. The park was clean and safe. Would love to come back for a show at the amphitheater sometime!

We went pretty early in the morning, around 9, and we were the first ones there! We had the run of the place until maintenance showed up to empty trash and rake the sand. There were some leftovers from the day before (some clothes in the sand, some trash, and a kid's bike that I hope they found) but overall it was in great condition! Just before we left, it got a little crowded. Overall it was a great experience. Will definitely have to go back.

Shelter Gardens is a serene 5-acre botanical garden that houses a veterans' memorial, comfortable seating and a sensory plot for visually impaired visitors. The garden boasts of exquisite flowers, shrubs and trees with well-labeled botanical names; perfect for nature enthusiasts who want to learn about various plant species. A small but charming koi pond adds to the overall beauty of the garden.
A very peaceful hidden little gem in the middle of the city. Pathways are well maintained and include several restful spots along the way. Lots of ‘nooks and crannies’ to explore with several featuring statues & memorials. Most of the plants/trees are well labeled. Garden is free and open to public. Definitely a must visit if in the area. Recommended.

Shelter Gardens is a gem in Columbia, MO. This park offers a an experience for a variety of visitors. The covered area is perfect for photos and picnics, and I saw many people relaxing and enjoying the open fields. The small waterfall and bridge add a charming touch, and the old schoolhouse is a unique feature where you can even write on the chalkboard or take photos. The gardens themselves are stunning, with a variety of paths that wind through both enclosed areas filled with diverse trees and flowers, and open spaces. It's a wonderful place for a leisurely stroll, and I noticed many people taking advantage of the beautiful scenery for portrait photography. The park is very clean and well-maintained, and offers plenty of parking and a peaceful atmosphere. With multiple paths and exhibits to explore, Shelter Gardens is a must-visit in Como

The garden is beautiful with cute little spots to have a fun day with friends or family. It looks beautiful with the fall colors and leaves falling. We visited on a rainy day and hence could not enjoy completely but being there on a good weather makes for a perfect picnic spot.

A beautiful park full of flowers and trees from Missouri. This garden is free and open to the public. A great spot for photographs. The school house on property is a replica of the Brunswick one room school house we’re the founders of MFA Oil and Shelter Insurance attended school. It’s furnished with furniture from the time period. At christmas they have been putting up a nice lighted walk through experience which is great for the whole family!

Peaceful, well-maintained Park with paved pathways winding around the 5 acre property. Enjoy multiple water features & waterfall with coy pond. I liked that all of the vegetation & tree variations were labeled. All 5 senses go to work & I can imagine how this place must look fully bloomed on a sunny day (cloudy morning today). There's also an old schoolhouse you can walk into, sit down or leave your mark on the chalkboards. Love this place!

Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, located just minutes from Columbia, Missouri, is a prime example of karst topography. The Devils Icebox and Sinkhole Trail takes hikers through prominent features such as Devils Icebox, Connors Cave, numerous sinkholes, and the namesake Rock Bridge. This trail offers a unique experience with two subterranean sections. The park's namesake is a natural limestone formation that has been shaped over time through erosion.
Rock Bridge State Park is one of my favorite Missouri trials because of the views and accessibility. This park is wonderful for people of all ages; especially for families! We love exploring the Devil's Icebox Cave and the Sinkhole short trail. There are parts on the trail that are easily accessible by following the wood-planked walkway, but there are also "off the beaten path" trails and spots to ride your bike. Rock Bridge State Park is absolutely beautiful and is a "Must Visit" outdoor spot in Columbia, MO!

Really a top notch park that clicked all the buttons for me. Nice hikes, caves, tons of historical information about the wagon trails, former occupants, whisky distillery and other businesses that were in this hollow. The last photo I posted shows the crumbling foundation of the distillery(you have to look closely) seen in one of its three iterations (it burned down fairly regularly) in the previous picture. Most of the hiking trails were good for most people.

Historic Sites
The Missouri State Penitentiary, also known as "The Walls," is a historic prison complex in Jefferson City that operated from 1836 to 2004. This Gothic Revival facility housed dangerous criminals and was the site of a notorious riot in 1954 due to overcrowding and violence. Today, it offers tours of its cell blocks, yard, and even the gas chamber.
A group of us, six in all, were joined by 30+ more tourists for an overnight lock-in. We were met by very engaging staff members, and, once the rules were set and buildings discussed, then set free for the remainder of the night. The site is incredible; the history, the atmosphere, the allure of witnessing paranormal experiences. As with typical experiences, paranormal engagement varies widely from person to person, and cannot truly be "reviewed", but should be experienced for yourself. I would love to attend a more private tour in the future, as the presence of large groups of people, in my experience, diminished the haunting mood. Be sure to bring extra battery packs, flashlights, and other gear! Leave the sleeping bags at home, you won't be sleeping here.
Elmer O — Google review
Four of us booked a three-hour tour and it was one of the highlights of our weekend. We ended up being part of a group of about thirty guests. The place is creepy and spooky, and we enjoyed hearing some firsthand and secondhand stories about paranormal events as well as some history of the prison and its inmates. During our tour, we had (what could be argued were) some activity, but nothing definitive. It made for a more exciting visit, for sure.
Jeff B — Google review
Drove 5.5 hours from Nebraska to visit! We went for the 3 hour ghost hunt on Thursday & decided we should go on the History tour on Friday morning. I enjoyed both of them so much & had so much fun. The only thing is I wished I would have done the history tour before the ghost tour! So I would have had more of an understanding of the area! The guides & staff are awesome, super helpful, and full of knowledge about this prison. With the future of this place being unknown I’m so glad we took the time to come visit!
Robyn T — Google review
The history of this place is phenomenal. They offer prison tours, ghost tours, and overnight haunted tours. Our tour guide was Lee, who I highly recommend, because Lee was an actual prison guard that worked there for many years. Lee started working there in the 1980's. He worked there until they closed in 2004, then worked at the new prison for a few more years before retiring. If you do a tour here, ask for Lee. He is very knowledgeable. You can even go inside the actual gas chamber that was in use for many years there. I am so glad I went on this tour. Thank you Lee!

The buildings are incredible. The tour and stories are through and captivating. Our guide, Daniel, knew so much and made sure we got the best photo opportunities, plenty of time to ghost hunt, and definitely shared every story he had. Absolutely coming back for another tour!
Lindsey B — Google review
Highly recommend the history-based tours of this very interesting and atmospheric place. Having taken two tours (with different guides), can also say it’s a totally different experience each time. There’s also paranormal/ghost hunt tours, if that’s your kind of thing.
Charlotte K — Google review
This place is so interesting! I only regret doing the shorter tour! Our tour guide was very informative and the fact that he used to work at the prison before it closed really added to the tour! I wish we had more time to explore as the 2 hours went by so fast. I really hope they don’t tear this place down we would love to come back. Buy your tickets in advance.

The Missouri State Capitol, completed in 1917, is a historic government building located near the river in Jefferson City. The campus features water fountains, sculptures, and floral gardens, including the Lewis and Clark Trailhead Plaza honoring the famous explorers. As the seat of government for Missouri, it offers tours to visitors who can explore its neoclassical design and intricate details. The building's historical significance and role in governance make it a must-visit for those interested in politics or architecture.
Amazing capitol and grounds. It is very easy to find parking right by the building. The building itself is beautiful. There is also a museum about Missouri inside that is free and very informative. It's one of the best Capitols I have been to in the US.

We had a great experience visiting the Missouri State Capitol. You can either book a free guided tour in advance or explore on your own. Both options are completely free! We went on a Saturday morning in June right when it opened, and surprisingly, we were the only ones there. There are some free parking spots right in front, which made things super convenient. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes because there are four floors to explore, including a full museum on the first floor with exhibits covering Missouri’s rich history, government, and culture. The architecture is stunning, and every floor has something worth seeing. Whether you’re a history buff, traveling with family, or just passing through Jefferson City, the Capitol is definitely a must-visit.

Beautiful place to hike. Even in winter when nothing is blooming it was an enjoyable and peaceful nature stroll. Good elevation gain on the trail too to get a little exercise. Recommended.

I like this outdoor treasure that's nestled just a few minutes from our Missouri Capitol. Currently (Spring 2025) sees Runge under construction with improvements happening at the visitor center/indoor section as well as outdoor, but still very much functional and fun! About 2 miles of well maintained, clean, beautiful trails weave through quiet grassland, fields of seasonal wildflowers, and foresty areas with a variety of aged trees. On the visit where these pictures were taken, March 2025, the flowers were not yet in bloom, but the birds were already sweetly singing. Visit in Summer for gorgeous wildflowers beside the trails. A very nice outdoor escape inside of a bustling city, and it's a shame part of the trail borders a neighborhood, but those residents keep their homes looking very nice, it just reduces the 'out in nature' experience. A part I relish is the old fire tower lookout. Historical signs tell the story of the tower and the husband and wife who operated it many years. People can climb the steps for a bird's-eye-view of this area, but the tower building at the top is locked. Come enjoy a very nice getaway in Jeff City at Runge. Due to work hours, I have never been inside the building, but it looks like a fun, educational opportunity and I took a picture during renovation where I saw taxidermy animals and displays along with things to read. Thankfully, while the inside closes by 5pm, trails are accessible until 8pm. There's even a shorter wheelchair accessible trail right off the parking lot that offers nice features to read and view Missouri's natural gems.

Beautiful views and scenery. Plenty of unique trails to choose from as well with varied distances. the firewatcher tower offers a great overlook of the nature center. the indoor area is a great museum type attraction that has plenty of interactivity. Trails are mostly paved so walking after rain is no trouble.

I loved exploring the trails at Runge Conservation Nature Center! The paths are well-maintained and offer a peaceful escape into nature right near Jefferson City. There’s a great variety of plants and wildlife to see, and the trail signs make it easy to learn about the local ecosystem. It’s perfect for hiking, birdwatching, or just a relaxing walk. Family-friendly and educational — a hidden gem for anyone who enjoys the outdoors!

I didn't realize it, but I had been here before with the kids in 2003, and it still impresses. Four of us adults enjoyed the outdoor trails, then spent an unexpected amount of time in the Nature Center. It is so informational, includes live animals and taxidermy versions, and there was a quilt exhibit at the time, too. This is an excellent place to bring children, but the four of us enjoyed exploring as well.

Great place! It’s free but a lot to do for kids 1-5. Turtles to look at, a couple fish, puppets, a ‘tree house.’ My kid loved it. Shout out to the conservation lady who helped reinforce the lesson of ‘don’t eat things you find outside’ when I had my child ask her if a fruit found outside was edible, she told my child what it was and what animals like to eat it and reinforced ‘Always ask an expert!’ Although it was free, it was so worth it that I bought something from the gift shop to support them.

It was very pretty. We were unable to go in because it was a Sunday and they are closed on Sundays.

Being so accessible for everyone living in Jeff City makes this a must visit (multiple times) for any resident and great side stop for anyone passing through or living in the nearby area. The walking trails are well kept and a mix of single track, gravel, wood chip, and boardwalk. There's also a creek when the water is running, a diversity of fields and canopy, leading to an abundance of blooms, and a fire tower that you can go up for amazing panoramic views. I highly recommend it for trail running, but of course walking is fine too. There are ample public facilities and of course the highly educational nature center itself!
