Amazingly beautiful little town set in an impossibly beautiful & awe inspiring location. Amazing iconic wooden hotel perched on a hill overlooking town & beautiful lake, surrounded by magnificent mountain vistas. Lovely shopping and dning options & don't miss out on the lake cruise options to Montana at the other end of the lake. Wildlife abounding - even at the edge of town ! Bears and Deer abundant in the area - lovely drives/hikes nearby - Red Rock Canyon & especially Cameron Lake are stunning. The effect of the catastrophic wildfire in 2017 is still evident everywhere, but has generated beautiful and dramatic vistas and photo opportunities. A fantastic location - not to be missed. Note: superb in-town lakeside campsite for RVs - full facilities - water, waste dump, power, toilets & showers.

I drove through this park on my way from Calgary to Montana, not knowing anything about it. It’s so incredibly beautiful. It was a holiday when I was there so it was really busy. I wasn’t able to visit the town or the visitors center due to parking, but I was able to park at other places along the way to put my feet in the lake, go to the overlooks, etc. It’s a great park for a day trip or to stay and explore more activities. I will definitely return if I’m in the area again.
Steph W — Google review
We spent three days at Waterton Lakes National Park and it was a delightful hidden gem. Our cozy cottage in Mountain View served as the perfect base for our daily park explorations. One highlight was a cruise on the lake to Goat Haunt, a part of Glacier National Park. We visited scenic spots like the Bison Paddock, Cameron Lake, and Red Rock Canyon. We also enjoyed kayaking on Cameron Lake; the rates were very reasonable. The charming town within the park offered quaint shops and cafes. Waterton Lakes National Park is truly a fantastic destination, especially on a sunny summer day. Don't miss out!

Stunning views, adorable town to stay at. Majestic mountains, beautiful valleys, and so many activities to do. The Prince of Whales hotel is a must see. Trappers is fabulous for breakfast. We had the best fried chicken at another local restaurant. Aspen Village was a nice place to stay at as well. Spacious with 2 queen beds.
Claudia R — Google review
Beautiful beyond words, great fishing. We enjoyed our trip to Waterton, beautiful lake, my husband did some fly fishing off the points & caught some fish. We walked up a short distance to the beautiful hotel with stunning views. Enjoyed a restaurant in town & plenty of shops. Went in July & there was plenty of parking, great & modern information centre as well.
Christina G — Google review
Enjoyed a delicious meal at Zums. Enjoyed Cameron waterfall. Hiked up to upper and lower Bertha Falls, not an overly difficult walk but so worth the views. Drove out to Cameron Lake, which was stunning, wandered along the pathway beside the lake. On the drive up we saw waterfalls and the first oil well in western Canada. Took in a beautiful view of the Prince of Wales Hotel from Driftwood Beach. Love love Waterton.
Calgary G — Google review
This is a brilliant place to stay either as a destination or if you are going between the US parks and Canada parks. We were going from Banff to Glacier National Park in the US. This is actually the ideal place to stay the night if you are going to GlacierNP as you come in the St Mary’s entrance to Glacier, so do not need a pass for Going to the Sun Road. It would be an ideal place to stay going in either direction. The park itself is lovely, some amazing lakes and beautiful mountains. Its basically a Canadian extension to Glacier NP on the US side and the main lake crosses the border. You can hike for miles along the lake or just enjoy the village or maybe get a boat out on the lake. If you follow the hiking trail out of Waterton park, there are some astounding mountain peaks in vibrant colours such as Bertha Peak and Mount Carthew. If you are in the area, I would certainly recommend stopping here for a visit.

Our annual camping pilgrimage to Priest Lake was a great success. Our Idahome Family had a blast at Indian Creek Campground. The facilities are well maintained and 99% of the staff were very helpful and accommodating to some of our disabled Vietnam Veterans. Looking forward to next year!
David E — Google review
Very nice campground, very hard to get a reservation and when we got there over half the sites weren't even filled!!! I hope those no shows had to pay like they were there!!! Plenty of spots with hookups and plenty without! Nice paved roads and lots of walking paths. If you plan to spend the day on the beach there good luck fighting the Russians who plant tents all down the beach and grab all the picnic tables to claim their spots for their entire stay! Not sure why this is allowed. Water is clear and the scenery is gorgeous! Nice shop with premium gas avaiyas well as hand dipped ice cream! We go every year as we love the lake!!!
Catherine C — Google review
Had a really nice time camping at Indian Creek. Some downsides: crowded, a bit rowdy, tons of yellow jackets, and the most unfriendly camp hosts I've ever encountered Pros: absolutely gorgeous lake We plan to go to Lionshead next time for a quieter experience but this place was nice
Kylie N — Google review
The Check-in staff was above and beyond friendly and helpful! It was such a relief compared to awful attitudes and treatment we received at the last state park we stayed at (Farragut). The people here are absolutely amazing and kind. They seem genuinely happy to have you there. The park itself was beautiful, clean, and well taken care of. The rangers were very friendly too. If I could give ten stars I would!
Jessica T — Google review
After hearing nothing but good things from the local folk, we decided to take a couple of days and went up to fish and explore Priest Lake. This place is an absolute gem! The water is so clean and clear, and the perfect temperature for a swim in the heat of the afternoon. We even had luck with a few trout and smallmoth bass off the dock. The photo opportunities are limitless and if you have a boat I definitely suggest you bring it! My only issue was the number of people (the campground was nearly full) but everyone was respectful and friendly. We will be going again!
Lessa G — Google review
It’s so beautiful here. By far, Top 3 for our family. The water is green and clear. The only down fall is the rocky beach. I would recommend wearing sandals in the water. Campsites are very clean, some have electric outlets and USB ports. We love the fact that they are dog-friendly. Beach area is great for both those who want to be near the kid-friendly area or on the boat dockside… where less people are and it’s a lot quieter. They have a really nice convenience store right on site that has every little thing that you forgot and more. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Tamara M — Google review
Absolutely beautiful! The Hawaii-like sand on the beach was a pleasant surprise. Plenty of breathtaking views of the lake & mountains regardless of where you are located. Vast quantities of hiking trails for all ages. Very family friendly. Phone & Internet service is intermittent.
John C — Google review
Loved this state park! Everyone was so helpful and friendly! Well stocked store and yummy ice cream. Campsite 34 is an awesome pull through...big site. Bathrooms and showers are modern and very clean. We hiked and kayaked. Went to the west side of the lake and drove to the Roosevelt Grove of giant cedars and saw the Granite Falls (same parking lot). Make sure to eat at Moose Knuckle in Coolin. WE EVEN SAW A BULL MOOSE! We had no cell service but could walk to park headquarters and use the wifi when needed. Would love to come back sometime.

This is a very pretty area to visit if you are ever in Creston British Columbia. The Kootenay River runs through this valley on its way into the United States and through the Middle of Bonners Ferry Idaho. Enjoy the many paths and all of the wildlife while you're here and don't forget your camera, the scenery is amazing. As always leave it better than you found it and enjoy 😉.

After a long day of driving and before having dinner, we spent a couple hours at the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Center. Although the Center itself had closed for the day, we enjoyed wandering the trails, watching the birds and seeing the beautiful scenery.

Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge

A beautiful refuge in a gorgeous part of the country. I took the trail up to Myrtle Falls. The falls themselves are a bit hard to see due to trees but it was a pleasant short hike. The auto loop has a very well maintained road with a few wide spots. In all honesty the best time to visit isn't middle of the summer as there was virtually no waterfowl to be seen. My next visit will be for the fall bird migration when birds should be plentiful. All in all I had a nice visit.
Tim F — Google review
Nice park but don't come here to go fishing all the river and ponds but you can't fish in them. You can only fish in a creek that the water is moving 100 mph and it's only 5 feet wide. They wouldn't want us to have a good chance of catching fish. The dem tree huggers run these parks so what do you expect.
John L — Google review
Beautiful nature preserve with well maintained hiking/walking paths. If you're lucky, you may see moose or deer. We saw hawks, a bald ealge, and a variety of geese and ducks. It's a very nice hike up to Myrtle Falls. Easy enough for the whole family, and the views are worth it.
Heather M — Google review
A lot of fun. Short uphill hike to the falls. On auto tour saw deer, various birds, turtles. And this was in early afternoon. Bring binoculars.
Robert C — Google review
Very beautiful place. It has a mix of mountains, rivers/creeks and valley plains. The main attraction seems to be the trail to Myrtle Falls, but there is more to it than that.
J T — Google review
Very beautiful area though not much to see at the reserve itself. Some interesting wildlife, such as beavers and deer, and a good variety of birds, osprey, bald eagles, peregrine falcon, pheasants, and many more Canadian geese than can be counted. Can recommend Myrtle Falls trail and the Kootenay River running nearby. The nearby river also has a great place to camp for free. Highly recommended.
Arnon C — Google review
Lovely one way drive through the refuge. Best in spring but still dramatic scenery in summer
Jean H — Google review
We enjoyed walking the auto path and the short hike to the falls. We went in late May and only saw a few whitetail deer, swans, ducks and turtles. However, it was a great flat walk and beautiful scenery.

I like Kokanee very much!! I was never closer to the Brewery as today. (Scotties RV Park) But unfortunatly the store is closed :(:(. Kind regards from a Swiss Kokanee Costumer

You should enter the second gate if you come from east area(Kingsgate). Thanks for kind staffs and fast unloading.
Justin K — Google review
I bought a six pack of kokanee cans at maverik in Mead Washington last night. I have a sensitivity to soaps and detergents and there was way too much soaps and or detergents in that beer!!! Now Im suffering the consequences. Please have your staff and crew rinse and scrub away the soaps you use much more thoroughly!! There shouldnt be any soap in beer!! Do your employees know the difference between concentrate soaps and non concentrate??? I can tell you it was the most rediculous amount of soaps/detergents ive ever consumed in beers. Get it together people!!!!

The brewery has a new-to-me beer and gear store with excellent hosts!

I'll be drinking other brands of beer until they stop flying that hideous flag beside our beautiful Maple Leaf on their roof.

I just yesterday went to jimmies liquor store to buy a 24 pack of kokanee beer. Just under $55 out the door. ABSOLUTELY NOT. Bought pilsner beer instead. Almost $8.00 cheaper. You really need to address this!!!

Amazing atmosphere and wine. Great way to buy local Canadian products. Staff were amazing. Shout out to our server Lorna who was such a friendly and amazing person explaining the wines beautiful areas of Creston in detail. Keep up the good work.
Derek D — Google review
Was a very cold feeling walking into the tasting room. Donna, the taster lady, was just going through the motions and explaining the wines like she was reading it from a sheet. 4 wines, 5 minutes tops. Felt unwanted and rushed. Bought 1 wine as it was good, but the staff are not personable. I suggest if you like the wines just buy them and skip the interaction with the winery.
Christopher R — Google review
Skimmerhorn Winery in Creston is a fantastic destination for wine enthusiasts! The wine tasting experience was exceptional, offering a superb selection of wines that were truly enjoyable. The food was delicious and paired perfectly with the wines, enhancing the overall experience. The scenery from the patio is absolutely stunning, with beautiful views overlooking the valley and vineyards that create a serene and picturesque atmosphere.
Fern S — Google review
Meat and cheese charcuterie ordered along with 3-glass wine flights. Very good. Beer available too for those who prefer the barley suds.
Joseph B — Google review
I love coming here every year when I visit my parents. The scenery is beautiful and I find this place to be very relaxing. I wish sangria was always on offer though and I miss when they used to have the full bistro for lunch. I think the wine tasting used to be free, but if I’m not mistaken I think they charge now for tastings.
Vanessa B — Google review
What a lovely place to visit in Creston! We were fortunate to have a sunny day so we could sit on the patio and enjoy a fall day. The view from the patio is lovely with rolling hills stretching south to the border and the fall colours just starting. We had a wine tasting one afternoon and came back the next day for lunch. Lunch is tapas style with several very tasty small plates. The menu was farm to table so you could experience what the surrounding farms could offer. White wines were very nice, no red wines available when we visited. Definitely a place to return to on our next visit.
Sherry J — Google review
Absolutely lovely winery!! Their patio is dog friendly so we were super happy that my dogs were allowed to join us there for some wine tasting. They even brought out a bowl of water for them. Great wine too!!!
Jennylynn ( — Google review
Amazing view from the shaded deck, overlooks vineyards, orchards, mountains. Food, wine, service was excellent. Can't wait to go again. Back again! Food and wine were out of this world as usual. Staff is the best there is! Very charming and fun, experts in their field. If you haven't been here you are missing out.

Heart Rock is a unique gem for the little town of Bonners Ferry. The hospitality is impeccable-the first time I went in, it was as if I was in “Cheers”, like everybody knew my name :-) One of the best aspects about Heart Rock is Lillian’s awesome ability to help me pick a bottle of wine for a gift or meal. Her knowledge is spot on and the best part is, she makes you feel so comfortable- nothing pretentious at all about the place. Super cozy and cute -Highly recommend. Cheers!! “Maggie” ;-)
Kristina W — Google review
We visited Heart Rock Wines a few times during our holiday as we stayed just outside of Bonners Ferry. Lillian has created a really charming and intimate space; combined with her knowledge about and passion for the wines from this region it was one of our favourite finds of our holiday. She's a fantastic hostess; we couldn't fault the ambiance, the delicious wines (other drinks available!) and the antipasti plates she could rustle up in the little kitchen there. Heart Rock Wines offers a really different experience to more typical bars and restaurants, and deserves to keep its place as one of the best wine bars to visit in the state.
Gaynor E — Google review
Heart Rock Wines is an absolute gem. No place in town can compare with the wine selection and ambiance. On Fridays and Saturdays the food is superb, and Liliian can direct you to the perfect wine paring. I highly recommend it for date night, girls night, or book it for a special event.
Teresa R — Google review
This cozy wine bar in Bonners Ferry is a gem! One of a kind. Wonderful ambiance--like a European get away. Lillian's food choices are delicious. Check her hours so you don't miss out. I've had family and friends from out of town come to visit and they found her place to be a lovely little oasis. Great wines and delicious reds!
Teresa S — Google review
I met Lillian 7 years ago in her Heart Rock Wines establishment and remember feeling that she brings a breath of fresh air to Bonners Ferry. Since then we’ve spent many hours trading stories. She’s delightful and she really knows wine. When out of town guests are visiting, we make a point of taking them to this great wine cellar. We can count on quality wine and a comfortable atmosphere.
Diane K — Google review
Heart Rock Wines is a great place - cozy atmosphere where you can talk with friends in a comfortable environment. Proprietor Lilian knows her wines and specializes in wines from the Pacific Northwest. My wife and I go there with some frequency, always enjoy ourselves and have been introduced to some great wines. I can't say enough about Heart Rock, it's a gem in our little town and a wonderful addition to our community.
Rick D — Google review
Mary was so delightful and not only educated us on wines from the Northwest and all over the world, but facilitated an unforgettable tasting. If you like wine and have friends who like beer there's a wonderful beer room connected. Bliss will be shared by all.
Leah E — Google review
Heart Rock Wines is a warm, friendly, lovely haven. Lillian, the proprietor, and her husband Kris, make you feel welcome and cared for. The atmosphere is cozy and the wine and beer selection is outstanding. Hands down the best treasure in Bonners Ferry.

Today I stopped by the front desk about 230 pm to modify a reservation I had for the weekend. My wife and I are celebrating our anniversary there this weekend. She was so polite and helpful. She's a real asset to the Casino and I'll come back because of her caring attitude. I really appreciated that. Thank you again.

Beautiful riverside of the Kootenai safety! Beautiful views, Lots of ducks. BNSF trains go by atleast once an hour. So if you like trains like I do its awesome.. Every now and again we are lucky to find a diamond in the rough on our motorcycle trips and we sure found one here with the Best Western Plus in Kootenai River Inn. We were greeted by Julie at the front desk and she put in motion the foundation of a great stay and experience. Our dining experience was great with good food and our server Heather was exceptional. Overall....fantastic.

Please for the love of god do not put regular non dog owners in a pet friendly room. Room 111 on the main floor smells of dog piss. Even worse is the combination of carpet deodorizer, cold air conditioning and dog piss - gross. Not to be nasty but the whole lower floor smells of dog piss, there are too many old seniors that leave there dogs in the room to pee. On a positive note, the House keeping staff needs to get a raise, other than the dog piss smell everywhere on the main floor your staff keep the property very clean. Everything from the bathrooms, linens, beds, walls, and pool and outdoors is great.

We've been on a camping 🏕 vacation for a few days. After numerous looks of annoyance from my wife. I called to check on a room for the night. Connor was quick to answer my questions about amenities, food, pool, breakfast availability etc. I told him I would call back. Maria answered this time & took my info with swift efficiency. Upon checking In Heidi multitasking checked us in & gave us the rundown. We ate at the in house Spring restaurant. Our server had curly hair and glasses & was phenomenal givin the friday night rush. We cleaned off the camp fire & headed to the Casino to make our donation to the county 😆. Stephanie & Anna at the Casino bar were attentive & kept us drinking & gambling. Jeremy stood out to us as being on the ball with clean ash trays & removed empty glasses. We're from Bismarck ND & this was our 1st time. We will definitely be back for the service & the views.

I arrived weary and tired from a wonderful but overall long day wheeling in BC, Canada. I am dirty head to toe and the wonderful staff upgraded my to a river view jacuzzi suite. It sure made my evening. Then the casino took my money 🤑🤣

Nestled in the Purcell Mountains, Kimberley Alpine Resort is a renowned destination for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. Boasting 1,800 acres of terrain with 80 ski runs, the resort offers activities such as dogsledding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Visitors can also enjoy skating, night skiing, and cozy bonfires at the base of the ski hill. The resort's village provides convenient access to Kelsey's Bar & Grill for dining options.
Took my kids skiing for the first time today. They all had an excellent time and so did I. My only “complaint” is that I was not able to buy a beer for the staff who gave my youngest a ride down the mountain when she was ready to be done. Big THANK YOU. Looking forward to coming back in the future.
Lucas B — Google review
Great hill for skiing. Lots of runs. Good elevation. Very helpful staff. I was impressed.
Jeff N — Google review
Love the spring skiing here! Always so nice! Loads of different trails of difficulty.
Milla W — Google review
Just returned to Kimberly after a ski trip in Fernie and the difference between the two locations is great. OK on the third day in Fernie we had a dump of snow and it was good powder, and amazing. Hard to beat. Nevertheless, Fernie was much better prepared on the runs. And the variety of lower runs in Blue and Green allows for a fun day. While Kimberly has the long North Star quad chair lift, and the blues and a few greens are long and converge on the bridge to the start of the lift. So a real bottleneck. And after the bridge to run down to the lift is not green.. Once up the North Star you can move over to the backside, but they are not always well groomed runs. In fact I was on Vimy Ridge and the run surveyor was having a real argument on the phone with the director about opening runs. It would also be nice if somebody took a brush cutter to the pines growing on the runs. The RCR staff at the locations seem to come from different planets, the Fernie staff are great friendly and helpful. And the ski patrol is on the ball. You can't say that of Kimberly at all. Except being for the cafe staff they are friendly..
Keith B — Google review
Great ski hill for beginner to intermediate skiers. If you’re looking for something a bit more interesting try going to the far north side and jumping in beyond the patrol lines. We found some fun fresh snow in there !
Samuel L — Google review
Great hill, even better when it gets dumps of snow. The hill has a good variety of different runs with varying skill levels. The hill is well maintained with the green runs groomed while most blues and blacks aren't.
Eric S — Google review
Awesome family ski resort with excellent runs for all levels, and fun stuff for little skiers to build their confidence and skills on. Stay on the resort if you can, so much easier to ski-in, ski-out for lunch and breaks, and after the kids are done you drop them back at your suite and do a couple Mom & dad power runs to round out your day!

I've skied here my whole life, I love this family friendly hill. Its a hidden gem with great snow, friendly staff and short lines. This was my 1st time taking my 6yr old daughter here. Sophie (or Sophia maybe?) was working the top of the magic carpet ride and was such a ray of sunshine! Wearing an elf hat, smiling, singing and chatting with everyone. She even encouraged my daughter when attempting the pilons. When she went on lunch break my daughter even asked when she'd be back. She really made the day special for us, and deserves recognition.

Embark on a captivating journey through history with the Kimberley Underground Mining Railway, a unique attraction that offers an authentic glimpse into the region's mining heritage. As you ride along the narrow valley of Mark Creek, prepare for an exhilarating experience filled with steep slopes and sharp curves.
A Memorable Experience for the Whole Family! We had an amazing time riding the Kimberley Underground Mining Railway! The tour was not only informative but also incredibly meaningful—especially for my dad, who spent his career as an underground coal miner. He got such a kick out of the stories, equipment, and historical details shared along the way. The entire experience was well-paced and engaging, with beautiful views and fascinating history woven throughout. It’s a fantastic way to spend the day, learn something new, and appreciate the legacy of mining in the area. Highly recommend for families, history buffs, and anyone looking for something truly unique in Kimberley!

What a wonderful tour. We learned so much about the Sullivan mine and how getting the ore out the ground changed over the years. Our amazing tour guide in the mine was Dale. He is a third generation miner. His hands-on knowledge, experiences and passion for mining were the highlights of the tour. After the tour in the mine and the powerhouse, we toured the original school house built in 1890, I believe, as well as a replica of a miner's home from the early 1900s. And to the ladies working in the station store, thank you for suggesting to wear a jacket/sweater/sweatshirt; much appreciated.

Such an enjoyable morning with our family as we did the train ride. The desk staff ladies were very friendly and helpful. It wasn’t an ‘inexpensive’ family outing, $90 for 4 adults, 2 children and a baby. But the children thoroughly enjoyed the train ride through the trees and a couple of exciting tunnels as well. Jack, the young man who was our tour guide was very knowledgable and gave some really interesting information on the history of the mine. It is a worthwhile stop for some fun and wholesome family entertainment (with some great historical knowledge thrown in for good luck!) We took the one hour tour and with children, it was the perfect length of time. Free, accessible parking, which was plentiful.

Really good display on how underground mining operations are carried out in a professional manner, the guides are all retired miners and are passionate about explaining and sharing their experiences. A fun little train ride in and around, very minimal walking to see the whole setup
Josh H — Google review
We have an amazing tour at this mine, you start the tour on a train, the same train they used to transport the miner's, once in the mine you get a close-up demonstration of how the mine workes by one of the original miners, he demonstrated some of the equipment so you saw and heard how hard the work was, after the mine you get to see the power house, this was where the air that powered all the equipment was made. Just a great tour and highly recommend it.

Such a great tour! We learned alot from Gord, a man who worked in the mine during the production years. He's so knowledgeable and charismatic. Both my wife and my 16 year old were rolling their eyes before the tour started, but once the train came to pick us up they were so excited. In fact my 16 year old asked a pile of questions after the tour because he was so interested in everything. Bring the family!

Really interesting tour - Dale the guide was so enthusiastic about the mine & relayed his experiences so well.

Great experience - it was nice and informative, and the staff are phenomenal! If you're wanting to go on the 1-hour tour (best suited for those with small children), know that it only runs once a day at 10 am and gets full quickly. I recommend being there right at 9:30 am when they open to ensure you get a spot. You cannot buy tickets ahead of time - you can purchase on the day of.

Moyie Lake Provincial Park

Moyie Lake Provincial Park in Kootenay Rockies is a perfect summer destination for families. The campsite offers both reservable and first-come, first-served sites with various amenities including an adventure playground, a 1,300 m sandy beach with shallow swimming areas, boat launch, and picnic spots. Nature trails provide opportunities for wildlife and bird viewing while the lake is ideal for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and windsurfing.
Moyie Lake is a peaceful gem with clean campgrounds, a beautiful cove, and scenic views all around. The water is clear, perfect for a swim or paddle, and the whole area feels calm and inviting. Also a great place to stop and unwind.

Great campground! We loved the playground and little bike course for kids. Also, the roads are paved so biking around was fun for the littles. Plenty of trails to explore on bikes as well. The beach is lovely and great for building sandcastles. Several picnic tables and clean washrooms. The little ice cream shop was lovely. Firewood $12 per bundle, not sure how I feel about that since the wood cracked a lot and sent embers everywhere. We will definitely come back here.

We are in #14 fcfs. Beautiful site close to showers , garbage, water, and washrooms. No one behind us or on our right side. Nice amount of sun and shade. The only complaint is the road is also public access to the boat launch so is a bit busy and some people drive a bit too fast.

Went to Sandy Beach for a quick picnic and was really surprised at how busy it was. Families love to do all sorts of water sports and stop by the beach to sunbathe, eat ice cream, or have a rest stop picnic like we did. Very well kept washroom. Beautiful location

The Cranbrook History Centre is a must-visit destination for those interested in Canadian Pacific railway history and local heritage. The museum houses exhibits and archives that showcase the region's rich history, along with a gift shop. The highlight of the museum is the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel, featuring several iconic trains from Canada's past, including the Trans-Canada Limited from 1929.
Fun tourist activity that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. And quite educative too! If you're into trains, you'll love this place. There's also a train model set with tracks that can be activated. Really cool!

As a huge fan of Anomalocaris seeing an actual fossil of it on display was incredible! They recently started carrying FromTheShalePlushies Anomalocaris canadensis Carri in their gift shop too! There is a new addition to their fossil gallery room showing an entire reconstructed environment of the lower Cambrian Eager Formation by the talented Paleozoic Paleoartist Saureal! They also have a ton of Triassic fish fossils, Devonian reef shells and coral as well as dinosaur footprints on display! This museum is so awesome for Cambrian and Anomalocaris fans! Can’t wait to visit again!

What a great place. Book the tour of one of the trains! Our tour guide was knowledgeable, fun, friendly, and had a lovely sense of humor. We also really enjoyed the model train exhibit. So detailed!

Hidden gem museum for lovers of paleontology! The Cranbrook History Centre has Carri the Anomalocaris by From The Shale Plushies for sale in their gift shop and a fossil of Anomalocaris on display in their gallery alongside other local Cambrian explosion aged creatures! Highly recommend visiting, it is well worth the stop!

If you or your kids love trains or are interested in the history of trains in Canada this is the place for you! The staff was so friendly and welcoming. We did all three train tours and I can't say enough good things about them. The restored train cars were so interesting but the best part is the tour guides! The guide was so informative and could answer all the questions my 7 yr old son who loves trains could think of. I really enjoyed the history as well as learning about the process of restoration. The gift shop could be better but it was still pretty good. They have a huge model train set that my son loved, I think we spent at least 30-40 minutes there. The museum is in a very interesting building with some nice displays. We had a fantastic time and I recommend all the tours!

Went to the casino for some dinner at Mum's and had a great time. The place is obviously full of people but all seem to know was beautiful dinner was coming to them. Our server Aleitha (sorry if spelled wrong) was lovely and made plenty of visiting recommendations. I recommend the calamari appetizer and the maple glazed chicken. Bon appétit!!! Came back the next day and the striploin and wings. I had a great meal again. Great place to indulge. Big shout-out to the chef Aaron Day

Jurassic Mike sang some great tunes at the casino Saturday night, but the fact they were extremely understaffed in the dining area where he was singing put a damper on the evening. The poor man and lady that were trying their best to serve everyone were simply ran off their feet and couldn’t come close to serving everyone properly, even though they kept a great attitude all night and were obviously working their hardest. C’mon St. Eugene Casino- you can do better!! And by the way, your cabernet on your menu is awful!!

A friend and I thought it would be a great evening to play a few slots and have dinner out. We decided to get fish and chips. When we received our order the fish was burnt a bit and had maybe 15 fries and the coleslaw was horrific. It was soggy and had no flavour what so ever . I litterly spit it out. I asked for gravy and the waitress kept on pointing to my dish and I asked again where the gravy and she again pointed to my dish.. the whole dinner was horrible .. what happens to the old menu that had pizza and we could choose fries and actual gravy. Not some broth that was cornstarched? If this is how they start presenting their food in a well established casino they should get Gordon Ramsay as this was unacceptable paying crazy amounts of money to eat horrible food . The waitress thought it was funny and asked if I wanted a new, fish. I said I’m thinking not.. I was starving so I left the gravy and the coleslaw and ate what I could if the fish and the measly 15 fries .. this was June 13 2025 ..

When we got there, we were looking forward to a nice hot tub. After a great day of golf. We found the Jets to the hot tub lacking. One of the hot tubs was warm, while the other was adequate. As we left for the hot tub, there were girls talking in the hallway. We mentioned this to the front desk, and they said they would take care of that. When we came back from the hot tub, they were still there. After listening to them for 2 hours, we phoned down to the front desk again. They dispersed after being told do so. Even though I'm sure they're nice individuals, they were loud, and we were tired. Other than that, the beds were comfy, but there was an old muffin wrapper underneath my husband's bed. The rest seemed to be clean, but I couldn't really tell. The price was okay, but I'm afraid I won't be going back here.

Complete disappointment , I took my wife for the prime rib dinner on mothers day , we were served a 6oz steak , the kind with the pregrilled marks on them . When ordering the waiter asked how we'd like it done , we said med rare and an end cut if possible. When the waiter came back , he asked how the steak was , I said we ordered prime rib , he replied that's how we serve our prime rib and walked away. Just wrong on all aspects. If I wanted steak , I would have ordered steak. It appears obvious that the management has instructed the staff not to let people know they don't serve prime rib but steak , as we ordered endcuts only available on a roast , and we're not told differently.

This casino is like being in jail, let me explain ! First things first the minute you walk in they SCAN your identification into their data bank so they know all your personal information. Secondly all table games have been removed so they can maximize profits, no fun interactions with dealer or other players any more. This visit security followed my son into the washroom and than monitored him playing slots, what did they think he was doing drugs in the washroom? Food service is not so great and expensive. If you want fun and loose slots I recommend crossing the boarder into Idaho and playing at the casino in Bonners ferry, the food , atmosphere and free hotel nights for gamblers will keep you going!
Dr W — Google review
I went there for the first time, (it was my first time gambling) and they were so nice, they talked to me about the cell phone policies (no phones allowed) instead of kicking me out, haha. But the casino was nice! The slot machines were a terrible design though.
Shevy B — Google review
Gone downhill big time. The slots are definitely tightened. Use to be way better more fun atmosphere before the renovations. The slots are so tight every time I go I get nothing. Easily can play thousands with next to no returns. Very bad returns. Miss the old days was way better before.

Sights & Landmarks
Fort Steele Heritage Town is a restored 19th-century frontier boomtown that was once a ghost town. Now, it's a provincial heritage site with historic structures and daily activities featuring living-history actors, offering visitors an authentic experience of the Old West. The town boasts an impressive Ktunaxa Indigenous beading collection in its museum and provides opportunities for gold panning and animal encounters. Visitors appreciate the accurate furnishing of buildings and consider it a great value for the entry fee.
We had a wonderful time at Fort Steele Heritage Town! It's a fantastic place for families—our kids had a blast and learned so much about local history in a hands-on way. One of the highlights was gold panning—they loved the thrill of finding real flakes! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the whole site is beautifully maintained. Highly recommend this experience if you're in the area!

This was a great day. We chose Fort Steele because it was something different from the other sightseeing we had been doing and was closer to where we were staying. It was great. A great place to go and see how things used to be and why the area was settled and how they survived. There are tours available. We did the archive one which took us to their storage area (1 of many) to see everything that is donated, cataloged and then used in the displays. They have a schoolhouse, with teacher, newspaper/print office with printer and working press, bakery with delicious cookies, a few churches, pharmacy, dentist office etc. There are cast members walking around. It was not busy. Highly recommend this.

This place is BIG! There's lots to see, so give yourself plenty of time to do it in. The staff were very friendly, especially in the seamstress and gold panning sections! We had great conversations with the gentlemen at the gold panning station, and one of them even followed us with some gold we'd missed in our pan! Excellent experience!

Absolutely loved it! We took a guided tour and the two guides were dressed in period clothing. They knew their subject matter and gave indepth descriptions of life in the Fort and surrounding area. Overall this was a great choice!

Really great displays of a heritage town, pack a lunch/snack and spend the day walking around in and out of all the buildings, lots of information on everything there. Take good walking shoes. There's a horse drawn carriage if you want to see the sights on a tour. Worth spending the day exploring
Josh H — Google review
A step back in time. The town is a great historical site with lots of information for people to read learn and enjoy. The Clydesdales were beautiful. The theatre was a step back to your childhood showing old films like the three stooges. The schoolmistress was charming and very friendly and took her role to heart.
Lee J — Google review
Had a nice time with the family here. There was a lot more to see here than we expected. Our favorite things to see were the demonstration of making haybails, the tinshop, waterworks building, and snacks at the International Hotel. It was fun that all the employees there stay in character and are excited to chat. We didn't give ourselves enough time here, we didn't give ourselves enough time to see everything, it's definitely an all day event.
Tiffany E — Google review
We got here on a Sunday afternoon a few hours before closing so some building where closed, but still a lot to see and do. Tried panning for Gold only found some pyrite but it was an experience. The staff all wear costume period clothing and play their roll, from school teacher to tanner, to gold panner. Great place to stop and visit, the train was being repaired so not able to ride that but the horse drawn cart was running and a cowboy walking the boardwalk.

Premier Lake Provincial Park

Provincial park
A bit of a rough drive to get in, but a beautiful park awaits you at the end of the dirt road! Great swimming in clear water (some years they have swimmers itch - but not in 2024). Some awesome 1 - 2 hour hikes to various smaller lakes - some with Kokanee fish in them!
Richard K — Google review
Our setup: Frequent tenting family. Two adults, one dog. We enjoy hiking, swimming, lots of trees and reasonable neighbours. The good: The lake itself is lovely. Great temperature for swimming. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. We had to turn back on the Turtle Lake hike because of a thunderstorm, but the scenery that we did see was beautiful. The trail is very quiet, but bear spray is recommended because it is an Alpine hike. The bad: As others have mentioned, the road is gravel and quite the hill down to the campground (this was not an issue as a tenter). 99% of the spots do not offer any privacy. Our spot was probably the only one in the campground that we would have wanted to stay at. Dogs are not allowed on one of the beach areas (and understandably so). The other area they are allowed is taken over by people leaving their boats / paddle boards, so there's not actually anywhere for people with dogs to enjoy the lake. The pit toilets were clean on arrival, but disgusting after 3 days. There is no screen on the windows, so lots of flies. Also the height of the windows means that you get a direct view to anyone going down the road or path or trails. The majority of people were not adhering to the rule that dogs must be kept on leash so there was excessive barking and lunging. This campground seems to be primarily used by trailers. Also people do better. I saw a whole watermelon, an apple, and tons of garbage in the creek.
Ally B — Google review
So beautiful! We went there for a day of fishing and I got to watch them stock the lake with 26,000 trout! They said they were putting in 50,000 this season. Beautiful place, clean, clear water, eagles swooping overhead, fish jumping, perfect place for a day away and out in nature!

Beautiful Lake. An okay campground. If you are camping in RV, make sure you fill your fresh water tank to you needs. Cause it's just the water well with a hand pump on-site. Gravel road which lead to the park is a disaster. Wasn't able to move more than 5 km an hour as it was so bumpy due to the bulldozer tracks, which dried out and created a very bumpy road.
Yura B — Google review
Lots of sites to camp and they have overflow as well. Few mins walk to the lake where you can launch your boat, kayak or canoe. Scenic view of the lake with mountains behind. Toilets are bigger and cleaner than most campgrounds. 2-3 hand-pumps available in the campground but they recommend to boil the water. Easy 3.5km hike to Quartz Lake/ Rockbluff Lake from the campground. You can see beautiful azure water surrounded by mountains from the top.The hosts were very nice and friendly people. The female operator was a bit iffy, made us feel like we didn’t belong there, from the minute we stepped in. Been here twice now, so we just did our thing.Good experience overall!
Saadat R — Google review
A perfectly pleasant provincial park! There's a mixture of sites, with some suited to RVs and others more suitable for tents. The campsites on the north side, closer to the lake, are rather tightly packed and the area more forested, while the ones on the south side are less tight, but with less forest cover. There's a quaint creek flowing between several of the northern sites, with a trail leading to the lake. The Park's lakefront has a boat launch and dock beside the beach; there's also a short shore trail leading to a trout hatchery. The summer water is still very cool, but thoroughly swimable. The campground is also equipped with an excellent playground for kids. Nearby, there's a closet for BYO solar water shower bags. Campsites were $25/night and firewood was $10/bundle. In August-September 2019 there was a bear in the area, and skunks are known to inhabit the area. Lots of chipmunks, squirrels, and chickadees. There's a couple nearby trails to small lakes, the main branch (Turtle, Canuck, and Yankee Lakes) can be done as a loop in 2 to 3 hours.
Jeffrey M — Google review
The park entrance is 15km about 6 miles up in the hills above Hwy 95 in South Eastern BC near Skookumchuck, BC Canada. The road to the park started off as paved, two lane good quality road but about half way up it turned into broken pavement, gravel, and dirt. The campground is located on the hillside above the lake. There is a small parking area near the beach and picnic area but no room for motorhomes or RV’s. There is parking for truck and boat trailer at the boat launch and a nice long dock enclosing the swimming area on this beautiful lake. The boat launch is paved and in good repair. Stair cases to the beach making it not fully accessible or wheel chair accessible. Nice playground in campground and nice trails with bridges crossing a small creek. All sites are unserviced and mostly level. Some sites offer privacy and shade but others are very close together with no privacy or shade. Water pump with untreated water that is not safe for drinking unless boiled. No showers, no drinking water, no sani-dump. I do not advise an extended stay as it is a long drive to get water and empty tanks.
Michelle N — Google review
Nice quiet place like to take the kids to swim. Water is cool and clear but not too cold. Small beach area that's usually not crowded. There is a dock completely surrounding the swimming area that protects from the boats. Water is 10 to 12 feet deep by the dock.

Kikomun Creek Provincial Park is situated near the Town of Fernie in British Columbia, offering a picturesque drive through the Crowsnest Pass area. The park features the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre along the way. The Ponderosa loop campground provides stunning river views and ample space for camping. Although it may feel crowded when full, amenities like water spigots and vault toilets are conveniently located and well-maintained.
This is the best campground! Been coming for 45+ years. There were a few changes with the booking which seemed very cumbersome and out of the ordinary, especially after the long weekend.
Kelly B — Google review
Love the campground. Turtles were great. It didn't get 5 stars as we were not aware that the bathrooms/showers were closed. Didn't tell us when we checked in. Also said come here for wood and ice and then closed for three days. Rules about bare campsites are not enforced. Coolers and cookware and garbage left our all day and night. Why do you even have rules?
Turk L — Google review
I camped on the Ponderosa loop of this campground and the location was STUNNING. The site I had overlooked the river and provided a great place for an easy nature walk in the morning. I had plenty of space for my vehicle and my small tent, although I think if the campground had been full, I would have felt a little too close to my neighbors. I didn't need any amenities other than the water spigot and vault toilet, which were just a short walk from the site and were clean and well-maintained. There was adequate signage in and around the park so I knew how to get there from the highway (I had no cell reception in Canada to check Google Maps!) Making a reservation was easy on the BC Parks website, and very affordable. Would stay here again!

We like this one campground. We visit this park every year at summer. The lakes are warm and clean.

We re there a few days ago. It's a beautiful and peaceful place to relax, but the manager was a bit strange and controlling. She kept telling us what we could and couldn't do, instead of just letting us enjoy the place. It seemed like it was more for older people who just want to read books and spy on each other. They have a big volleyball court, but you can't play after 6 pm because it's too loud. And they have a rule against drinking alcohol, but the guy who drives around and checks on everything was drinking in his car. I'm pretty easygoing, but this place is not for people in their 30s. It's like they want you to shut up, close your eyes, and just sit in your tent. No thanks! I'm not ready to spend my retirement years like that. Sorry, BC, but your management needs some work.
John S — Google review
Family oriented campground with access to lake and beach. Lots of mature trees for shade but few shrubs, so privacy is somewhat lacking. Well maintained roadways and pads in variety of sizes, suitable for small vehicles and tents as well as larger trailers. Despite the bustle of activity during the day (including kids racing around on bikes and parents pushing baby strollers) it quiets down nicely at night for a peaceful sleep. A certain amount of sites are reservable with a some first come first serve available. Wheelchair accessible pit toilets, but no sink. Running water available from pipes near garbage and recycling bins. Overall a good place if you're looking for more of a family/friend outdoor experience, but don't expect anything close to remote wilderness. Dogs are fine at campground (on leash) but are not allowed on beach.
Sophie V — Google review
Amazing campground with showers and an updated playground. There are lots of fish in the lake, and if you are lucky enough, you can spot a turtle.
Varya N — Google review
More than just the lakes! Perhaps most people visit this park either to lounge on the beach and in the water of Surveyors Lake or to boat in Koocanusa Lake but it's much more than that. The park has three general use campgrounds, one group site and a day use area, all connected by a series of trails suitable for walking and cycling. The trails lead through grassland and open forest (see the signs about the forest and grassland restoration program) all rich in plants, flowers, birds (including eagles) and other wildlife. The geology is fascinating with moraines, kettle holes and river bed deposits and there is cultural evidence of past railways (see if you can find the lingering marks of the railway ties in places under the current trail bed). All this in a warm, dry climate.

Established in 1959, this 259-hectare wooded park offers camping, hiking, fishing & cycling.
Amazing park! Trails nearby, creek to dip in bike wash stations and showers. Most camps are heavily shaded so great in the heat of summer. Staff is friendly and very on top of things at the park. First come first serve sites are limited and very difficult to get but we lucked out. If you plan to go for first come first serve sites make sure to have a backup plan in the area.

We had a great experience at Mount Fernie Provincial Park. We spent two nights and really enjoyed ourselves. Everyone was respectful, and super quiet. The sites were well maintained and fairly large. Great cell phone reception as you are just a few minutes drive outside of town. Showers were great, clean, and we were supplied with nice warm water and good water pressure. My only criticism is the barking dogs that live near the provincial park. I think there's a property on the way up to the site that has a large dog that they clearly can't control. This is out of the Parks' control, but it was quite irritating early in the morning and late at night. We will return and book a site deeper into the park to avoid hearing this dog.

This is such a great park. Staff were great , sites are well treed and large. Some little hikes and a creek right in the park . Pit and regular toilets, free showers but you do have to boil water, so best to bring or buy drinking water .

Such a beautiful spot to camp. We had a spot right by the creek. You could hear it the whole time in your site. At night the stars were out in full force. It was so beautiful. There are hiking trails right from the campsite and the campsite is only minutes from town. It's so peaceful and quiet. A great way to get away from it all.

This park is very close to the main road and easy to find. The road to the park include 1.2 km of gravel road but it is well maintained. Available campsites are listed on the park bulletin board and there are signs on each site clearly indicating which sites are available on FCFS basis. The sites offer no services but are large, fairly level and fairly private. There is a large, new, clean, central shower house with flush toilets plus pit toilets around the park. The showers are free and have hot water. The campground is on a hillside and the roads have old, pitted pavement. The interpretive trail along a creek was well maintained with good signs that are informative and looked like new. This park has hiking and mountain bike trails with maps at the trail heads that include difficulty level.

I recently visited a beautiful BC provincial park for a hiking trip. The lush greenery surrounding me was a sight to behold and it instantly made me feel more relaxed as I began my walk. The trail was peaceful, allowing me to take in the natural beauty of the surrounding area. The highlight of my hike was discovering a small river that was simply stunning. The refreshing water flowed gracefully through the rocks and trees, and I couldn't resist taking a moment to sit down and appreciate it all. Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with awe-inspiring views and a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Manav B — Google review
Excellent provincial park. Good showers here that were very clean when we visited. There are numerous potable water taps throughout the park and a dish sink at the showers and bathrooms. The outhouses have been recently redone, so recent when we visited that they still smelled strongly of fresh ceder wood. The campsites are spread out reasonable far and well wooded. We stayed during the pandemic when only BC residents were supposed to be allowed, though 90% of the campers were from Alberta, but the park was so spacious there wasn't any worry about being too close to any other parties.

From steep slopes to gentle runs, there's something for everyone. The resort also provides various camps and lessons for both kids and adults.
Amazing mountain! Nothing better than a Fernie pow day! If you're an intermediate to advanced rider, this place is for you. I spent two days and still haven't explored all of the rideable terrain. If you think you're a good rider, book a performance lesson. You will quickly be humbled and learn a ton to further benefit your skills.

What a beautiful resort, peaceful, the house here is well equipped with everything you need to enjoy. Hot tub, BBQ, log fire, fast internet, perfect temperature indoors. The view outside at the moment is beautiful pine trees the smell of these trees hits you when you first arrive. Fernie is a beautiful quaint little town, with plenty of options for dinning. Good shopping, great supermarkets with good range.

Went for a school trip, haven't been able to beat this. Best skiing in a long time, great powder coverage and plenty of groomed runs. It's got a little bit of everything for all levels. My only regret was that I didn't go to the polar peak.

Amazing spot to visit. The town is surrounded by beautiful mountains 🏔️. Travelled here for a bike race and was so worth the cross Canada 🇨🇦 trip! Tks Fernie!

As soon as you get to know your way around the mountains and different bowls it's absolutely amazing. There's skiing for everyone at all skill levels, and the views from atop the ski hills (especially the cedar bowl) are absolutely amazing.

Trails were in good shape, staff was very friendly and the flow trails were well designed. Great experience for our family! Note, if you're biking with beginners who have not done much downhill biking before consider starting on cross country trails in the region. Some of the green trails here are still very steep and challenging for new riders. Happy Trails!

Easy to find , friendly staff not to mention the view. It is now my go to mountain.

Waiting in line an hour and half to get a lift ticket is completely unacceptable for a resort of this caliber. The line went so far into the parking lot it was getting dangerous for small pedestrians.

Castle Mountain Resort is a renowned ski destination located 270 km southwest of Calgary, making it the most southern ski area in Alberta. It offers challenging powder runs and cross-country skiing trails such as Mt. Fernie, Mt. Proctor, Morrisey, Heikos, and Contra Trails. The resort stands out for its long continuous fall line runs and receives an annual snowfall of 900 cm.
Take these five stars carefully. The chair lifts are old and slow. The amenities are dated. But, the skiing is great! Complete runs to yourself, plenty of variety and plenty of snow. I'd stay in Pincher Creek, but maybe you can get a sweet ski in chalet...
Bradley M — Google review
Had so much fun at the resort this last weekend. It was our first ever skiing experience and so enjoyable! Lauren our instructor was BRILLIANT and had us out on the slopes in no time! Less than a 3hr drive from Calgary, this place is awesome and we will so be back again!!!
Sherri L — Google review
I love this place. Feels like coming back to the 1990s. But less ppl and big ski hills. And great fresh powder is super good. The chair lift is kind of old but the hill ticket is way cheaper than other big ski hills. From my house at the same time to Lake Louise. To castle way less traffic way less people. And lots more skies.

My husband and I got married here summer of 2023 and it truly was perfect! All of our guests and vendors have not stopped raving about how this was the most beautiful places for a wedding they have every seen. The staff we worked with (specifically Amanda) we absolutely incredible; they were responsive, helpful flexible and truly just a joy to work with. Castle is a hidden gem in Alberta and if you are thinking about a mountain wedding, do it here!
Gabriella O — Google review
We were here for hiking, not skiing, obviously, and I love how the ski hill has embraced hiking as a summer pastime. Signs clearly mark the trailheads. the only thing better would be to have the tavern open for a pint at the end! We hiked the north Haig lake trail as the south one was closed foe chair lift maintenance.
Sharalyn P — Google review
A great ski area for the seasoned skier or rider. The terrain is really steep, but for chasing the best Alberta powder day of your life on terrain that truly is the real deal. Don't be fooled, most of the diamonds would be double diamonds at other ski areas, it is a real deal, hard-core ski area. Intermediates and gapers need not bother!
Jack W — Google review
castle mountain sucks (>ᴗ•), slow chairs (means the trails up top take a while to get skiied out), chutes long and steep (if you are alright with some ~40-30° slopes), a big cliff lookers left of red chair (if you fancy some air). The huckleberry chair provides the easier runs for the riders that fancy easy going groomers and also has a small terrain park usually (the upper huckleberry lift is not yet open). The food at the pub on the hill was really good when I had it (haven't tried the cafeteria food). Overall, if you're looking for a ski hill with none of the nonsense of overdeveloped overpriced hills come here.

The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre is a must-visit landmark that commemorates the tragic 1903 landslide in the Canadian Rockies. It offers a comprehensive look at the rich heritage of the Crowsnest Pass and features interactive displays and exhibits focusing on the infamous event. The center provides an insightful experience with knowledgeable staff, dynamic interpretive programs, and presentations. Visitors can also enjoy a film dramatizing the tragic events of 1903 and explore trails leading to the slide site.
What a sad story. The center is very educational and extremely well done. When you explore the interpretive center you get an idea of what happened. When you go outside and see the slide itself, its absolutely humbling. The shear size of the slide is mind blowing. This is a fitting place to learn the story, and pay your respects.
Paul K — Google review
The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre offers an incredibly moving and educational look into one of Canada’s most dramatic natural disasters. From the moment you step in, you’re surrounded by breathtaking views of Turtle Mountain and the massive rockslide that buried the town of Frank in 1903. The exhibits are immersive and well-curated. The life-size replica of “Black Beauty,” the Tyrannosaurus skull, was a fascinating surprise that adds a deeper historical layer to the visit. The indoor simulations of the disaster, with collapsed structures and interactive displays, truly help you understand the magnitude of what happened here. Outside, the surrounding trails and viewpoints give you a panoramic look at the scale of the landslide. The blend of natural beauty and historic weight is humbling. The views of the rubble field and surrounding mountains are stunning—especially under a dramatic sky like we had. Great for families, history buffs, or anyone exploring the Crowsnest Pass. Easily one of Alberta’s most memorable historic sites.

This is a great place to visit, well worth the time. Such a fascinating history and well done interpretive center. It addresses the tragedy in a respectful manner. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The path is well taken care of and is no charge. See if you can spot the entrance to the mine! We brought binoculars.
Lia R — Google review
Very informative. The centre is well set up and easy to navigate. The price is very reasonable! The view of the aftermath is beautiful but disturbing as it really conveys the destructive force of the slide. The human side was told very well and made it easy to connect and understand the stories and the loss of life. Well done preserving history

Wow! It's a very informative display of the Frank Slide. We enjoyed it, if you the 1500m loop wear proper footwear, and if you aren't good with steeper trails, skip the forest abd just turn around. We did enjoy the whole loop tho. 4 adults. Also take advantage of discounts in Canada Parks!
Cindy C — Google review
We've been several times to the Interpretative Center, but always come out with new information or new experiences. Here are some we did this visit: Definitely hike the trail. It is 1,500m of some pretty cool sights. The first half (about 700m) is all through rock that was put there by the slide and is so cool to see the magnitude of rocks that slid down that mountain. The second half is through a forest and is much more of a hike. Several steep areas will challenge the less able bodied. It's very worth it though to go through the change in landscape. We stayed for both video presentations. We haven't watched both before, and it was worth it to see both view points. We also asked for information from the very helpful staff. There was an older gentleman, who's been there every time we've been there, who was particularly helpful and FULL of information. Last thing? They've started handing out really neat comics to the kids as they leave. These are excellent and entertaining. Overall, we always enjoy our visits. Highly recommend going. Especially on a slower, mid-week, morning visit. Very child friendly, and family oriented. Always very clean, and excellent staff.

It was cool but to think that happened 100 years ago is kinda sad. Also the prices for the museum were pretty expensive. Overall cool to see but also sad

Explore the rich history of coal mining in Western Canada by taking a tour of the Bellevue Underground Mine, the region's only authentic underground coal mine. Descend 1,000 feet into the mine and experience being 150 feet below the surface as you learn about its inner workings and historical significance. Don a miner's hat and light to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of this unique experience.
Incredible experience from an Arizonan visitor! Our tour guide Ry was awesome and very knowledgeable! Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

Such a great tour! My great grandfather and my husbands grandfather both worked in the mines in the pass. It was so interesting to learn about how hard they worked to create a life for their families. Thank you Sarah for a great tour.

Had such a blast visiting the mine this past month. We were lucky enough to tour it as it was the day before the closed for the winter. Our tour guide was AMAZING. She was the star of the tour. Me and my fiance said all the information she has really made it an experience. We love watching mining shows so touring a coal mine was so fun!

Pro Tip: DRESS VERY WARM! Very cool in the mine. Bring jacket and gloves and toque. Also check online for booking times in advance. Awesome experience. Such a great glimpse into the past and the lives these miners lived. Our tour guide Diane was amazing and very knowledgeable and passionate. If you are in the area this is a must try. Highly recommended!
Matthew C — Google review
It's FREEZING in the mine, literally! There was frost on the walls at the end of the mine. A hoodie was not enough for kids, teens nor the adults in our Canadian party. It is ZERO DEGREES CELSIUS in the mine on a hot August day. Bring a good jacket or winter attire. The tour was very informative and it was such a neat experience. You are able to take home a complimentary piece of coal from a wheelbarrow near the mines entrance. Entry is based on the time/hour you booked. The 10am tour had 3 people. The 11am tour had roughly 6 families. Hardhats with headlamps are provided. A hoodie was lended to a teen to who only had a tshirt and shorts on. I had joked (and scared a kid) that there might be bats in the cave but we didn't hear of or see anything like that. Overall, it was a truly neat experience and I’m glad we partook in this one-time experience.

My girlfriend and I came down for the 8:00 dark history tour and had an AMAZING time. Would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for evening activities throughout the month of October!

Our tour guide (forgot to get her name) lead such an amazing journey into the coal mine! We had a mix of young children and she was very cautious with what she shared which was very appreciated. We even got to take a little- or big- chunk or coal as a souvenir. They also have a little souvenir shop which everything was very well and reasonably priced! A little polished rock- or handfuls- and a sticker to add to our sticker wall. Thank you for the fun, educational journey! 💓

Nature & Parks
Blakiston Falls is a popular waterfall located in Waterton, just about 1 km from Red Rock Canyon. The trail to the falls offers a beautiful walk through a forest of Lodgepole Pines and wildflowers, with many areas showing regrowth after the 2017 Kenow Wildfire. The falls can be accessed via an easy 2.
Small easy hike to a beautiful waterfall. 1 km there and 1 km back. It took us under an hour with stopping at the falls for pictures, a snack and drink. Path was mostly flat and not much elevation gain. The forest burnt in a 2017 forest fire so it was a cool experience walking through the burnt trees and witnessing the regrowth that’s happening There are benches at the waterfall look out, I cooled off in the river when we got back!
Jessica M — Google review
This waterfall is located in a great area the pathway is easy and kids can also enjoy the walking and view. Still lots of burned trees around but seems like nature can recover very quickly.
Таня Ч — Google review
The hike to Blakiston Falls was an uphill climb, taking us approximately 20-25 minutes to reach our destination from Red Rock Canyon. While the ascent required some effort, the experience was well worth it. The sight of the mountains surrounding us as we made our way up was awe-inspiring, painting a picturesque backdrop against the clear blue sky. Reaching Blakiston Falls, we were greeted by the powerful sound of rushing water, which created a symphony of tranquility. The noise acted as a cleansing melody for the mind, transporting us to a state of serenity. The view of the waterfall itself was simply breathtaking, capturing the raw beauty of nature in all its glory. There were two lookouts available, offering different vantage points to admire the falls. However, it's important to note that these lookout points are not wheelchair accessible, which could be a limitation for some visitors. Additionally, while the trail itself is relatively easy to navigate, it may not be the most suitable path for strollers or wheelchairs due to its terrain.
Frida C — Google review
Oh boy, walking down a trail towards a waterfall, seeing mother nature retake a forest ravaged by fire... sounds like this isn't for you.
Matthew R — Google review
Walked the 2.3 km Blakiston Falls Trail from the parking lot of Red Rock Canyon on August 26, 2025. The trail leads through the burned forest from the 2017 fire and it was beautiful to see all the new growth, especially the small lodgepole pines! There is a bit of gradual incline in one section but most of the gravel trail is flat. It leads to a few viewing platforms overlooking the falls and valley. The metal viewing areas were futuristic looking and very nice, with benches for seating as well. The falls and valley views were beautiful. This is an easy trail to do if you’re at Red Rock Canyon.
Brittany T — Google review
Simple hike and not too long. The waterfall has several viewpoints and it’s very well done.
A C — Google review
Short walk from red rock canyon to the observation decks, with plenty of cool flowers and views to see. The falls are also very pretty. The observation decks are both made of metal with lots of gaps that someone could accidentally drop and lose their valuables like their phone down, so be sure to be very careful and hold onto your valuables tightly or have a wrist strap of some kind. The observation decks might not be great for people who are afraid of heights as you can see right under them which could freak out some people.

Red Rock Canyon, located in Water National Park, offers a picturesque landscape with red and green bedrock, clear mountain streams, and alpine meadows. The 16-kilometer Red Rock Parkway provides roadside valley views and access to the Canyon Loop, a 0.7 km walk offering fantastic vistas and leading to the scenic Blakiston Falls hike. This destination is ideal for beginners looking for a sunny hike or for those who prefer a leisurely drive through the canyon.
“Beautiful, Serene, and Scenic, but Crowded at Times” Red Rock Canyon in Waterton Lakes National Park is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates stunning landscapes. The vibrant red rock formations set against the lush greenery and clear blue water create a picture-perfect scene. The short walk around the canyon is easy and suitable for all ages, making it a great option for families or those looking for a relaxing stroll. You can also dip your feet into the cool water, which is refreshing after exploring the park. One of the best parts about Red Rock Canyon is how accessible it is. It’s just a short drive from Waterton townsite, and the road leading there offers some great views as well. The canyon itself is not very large, but it packs a lot of beauty into a small area. It’s a perfect spot to take a break, have a picnic, or just admire the natural scenery. However, the reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that it can get quite crowded, especially during peak season. This can make it difficult to find a peaceful moment or get a good photo without other people in the background. The parking area also fills up quickly, so it’s best to arrive early or visit later in the day. Overall, Red Rock Canyon is a gem within Waterton, offering stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. Just plan your visit wisely to avoid the crowds, and you’ll have a fantastic experience!”

Beautiful little canyon, amazing colors astounding location and views. Would recommend walking to the furthest point on the trail where it loops back for best view. The canyon is much deeper there so you can see more beautiful rocks but also there is a lot less people that want to walk up that hill! Very busy parking lot so be prepared you may have to park down the road at the further lot. Its a very busy location due to its accessibility. If you have walking assistance devices, strollers or wheel chairs you can definitely explore a lot of the views with its paved pathway.

We take the drive up to Red Rock Canyon and it offers exquisite views featuring red and green bedrock, alpine vegetation, and protruding peaks. The red rock formations provide a stunning backdrop. It is a great scenic walk for hikers and for those who would like an adventure. Was really really busy but to be expected on a weekend during the summer! Parking was a bit gnarly due to that but the attendants were really friendly, kind and patient. Bathrooms could really use a bit more attention (in comparison to other Provincial and National Parks) Great path up to Goat Lake. The regrowth is absolutely wonderful and lush. A must see if you're in Waterton!

A beautiful spot within Waterton Lakes National Park. The rocks are a beautiful red color and the water is crystal clear. There are paths that lead you through the mountains and there are also several waterfalls nearby. The paths range from a short walk to an intense hike so make sure to pay attention to the path markers.

The drive to get here was beautiful. Lots of parking and essential utilities. You can walk the paved path around the canyon, about 15 minutes. Hike down in the canyon along the stream. Then hike over to the falls, about 15 minutes from the lot. Got there about 9am and it was nice and quiet, but by 10:30 it was quite busy.

It was amazingly beautiful.. although it get crowded in summer month, if you want to take a good photos of the whole red rocks, should be there early summer before July/Aug which is the peak summer. Worth of the long driving hours..

Amazing Canyon with red rocks truly unique. There are long and short trails from the parking spot. Speaking of parking lots there are two upper is small and lower is big but a bit of walk so good luck finding one on upper lot on a busy day few washrooms. Beauvais Lake Provincial Park is a picturesque destination in southwestern Alberta, offering a range of outdoor activities. The park features ample opportunities for camping, fishing, and kayaking on the serene lake. Visitors can explore the Amerada Trail around the lake, paddle to Raspberry Island, or enjoy sandy beaches. The area is also home to diverse wildlife including loons, geese, ducks, and majestic eagles.
Beauvais Lake quickly became one of my favourite Provincial Parks. With all the lush flora and fauna there are so many things to see and explore. You'll find accessible friendly trails along the lake and around the campground. If you are up for a challenge there are 3 great peaks to explore; Baldy, Albert and Piney, Piney point is my personal and great for a sunset! The campground is fantastic! The sites are spacious with tons of trees around. There are walk-in tenting sites on the south end of the lake which is a nice quiet option to enjoy the park. The staff and campground host: Eleanor and Lenard are welcoming and friendly. I also highly recommend checking out the interpretive programs, they are always a hoot!

A wonderful camping experience. We had never camped there, but we will definitely be back! The cross-country ski trials double as hiking trails in the summer. We hiked to the top of Mount Baldy for some gorgeous vies of the area. The lake would be great for kayaking or small boats. Just a note, bring your own potable water. There are pit toilets. A jewel to discover!

It is a nice place for camping and picnics.  Walked around to enjoy a scenic view of Lake, it is fun to see a muskrat chewing stripped bark in the water.  A little bit quiet of the lake in winter, but you will enjoy nature sounds, watch for birds, waterfowl, and wildlife. There are trails for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and skiing as well.

This park is not far from the main roads and there is a good size town for supplies not too far away. We did miss the turn off to the campground when we entered the park but were able to easily turn around and go back. There is a very nice adventure playground with benches and picnic tables nearby located in the campground. Campsites are roomy and offer some privacy. There is a sign showing all the trails with distances but there are also bear and cougar warnings. There are FCFS sites as wall as reservation sites. There was no indication if the sites marked R for reservable were available or not. There was a park host with on duty when we camped here. There is an osprey nest on top of an old dead tree in the boat launch parking. We watched them fishing in the lake. The campground is not on the lake and there is not beach area. The park is on level ground and the sites are level.

We had a great trip here. Went on a number of hikes up the trails around the campground with our old dogs (Bear Bait) and actually saw a black bear literally no more than 40 feet into on of the trails right at the campground. Other than being on high alert, this was an amazing campground. Lots of bugs.
April C — Google review
Beautiful place with lovely treed campground with washrooms. They have a place to launch your kayak off the dock which is great! There are also life jackets available to borrow, should one forget theirs. The lake is also stocked for fishing. Good hiking trails too.

Nice campground with plenty of first come first served & reservable sites. Looked like great fishing, the lake is beautiful and calm. Had a couple dips to cool down (was 36c in the shade) which was nice - beware there are leaches! Best spot to go in is straight across from the boat launch as the crow flies. Outhouses are basic and no showers. People were having fires and not being super quiet - which I appreciate. Plenty of places patrol the noise a little too hard.

This is an awesome place where you can spend good time with your friends and families. There is a beautiful lake that surrounds the park area, and you can enjoy doing BBQ right by the river side. There is also public washrooms and seating area which I guess for cold weather. You will also see some warnings for the bears as there is pretty dense forest nearby. The river water looks little dark which has a different appeal. I would definitely recommend to visit this place if you’re in Pincher Creek city.

Located in Pincher Creek, the Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village offers a blend of outdoor exploration and historical immersion. The village is complemented by the self-guided Heritage Acres, featuring various historic buildings and antique farm equipment. Visitors can also enjoy natural beauty at the nearby Oldman Dam Provincial Recreation Area and Lundbreck Falls. The village showcases local history with interesting characters from the area, making it a miniature version of Calgary's Heritage Park but with its own unique charm.
A historic village that’s way bigger than expected. I loved the ability to enter every building. Every building was full of age appropriate artifacts. I highly recommend stopping and enjoying the history of this place.

Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village is impressive! My sister and I spent six hours exploring the museums and exhibits. The on-site restaurant serves tasty food at reasonable prices, making it a great place to spend the day. There were more photographs to upload, but Google cut me off at 50, so you’re only seeing 50 out of 80

This is an amazing gem. $30 for family to enter, amazing gardens and over 31 buildings to explore. Such an amazing collection of Albertan history. This is such an underrated venue. Would certainly go back when we visit the area again. At least 3 hour visit. Worth the time and price point. Great work everyone.

This is an interesting living museum showing history of the Crowsnest area. It was really nice to be able to visit inside all of the buildings and see the exhibits up close. Entertaining and informative!

Really cool place to visit. Lots of historical buildings and items to see. The cafe was closed which was a bit disappointing but understandable. The price to get in was very reasonable. A lot of things within the village were disorganized, but it gives you more to look at. It was not too busy and there are nice paths to walk on from building to building. Definitely recommend to anyone stopping by pincher creek who is interested in southern Alberta history.

Superb stop for any age! Our family of 5 with 3 kids under 5 spent about 3 hours here and barely saw it all. Kids loved how interactive it was (you can touch / lots of small artifacts) and parents liked the variety and history. Definitely a must-see visit for anyone in the region!

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site in Alberta, Canada, is a UNESCO site that preserves 6,000 years of Plains Buffalo history. The Blackfoot people used the cliffs near Fort Macleod to hunt buffalo by herding them up the hill and causing some to go over the cliff's edge. The interpretive center offers well-presented displays and films about this cultural heritage.
Such an amazing place to visit! The site is beautiful with stunning scenic views — but be prepared for extremely windy conditions at the top. Make sure to check the hours, as they close early, so plan your visit accordingly. One tip for after your visit: when exiting, avoid turning right as the road is very rough, almost off-road with lots of rocks — not suitable for a sedan. Instead, take the left turn to reach the highway for a safer and quicker drive.
YourFlyingFarishta — Google review
Great place to visit. Took about an hour to do the whole heritage site. Unique heritage site with tons of info on the buffalo jump. One of my favorite parts is the building itself. Built into the side of the cliff, it's architecturaly very fascinating. Great views from the cliff of the prairies and the Old Man River.

The World Heritage Site: Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump After a long week of work, we finally had the chance to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, just a 2-hour drive from Calgary. No booking required! Simply pay the entrance fee and enjoy the fascinating exhibits. It’s a place rich in history, offering insight into how Indigenous people survived and thrived in this cold and challenging environment. You’ll learn about traditional hunting methods, culture, and resilience. A must visit, especially for families with kids! It’s a meaningful way to teach children about the remarkable ways people adapted and lived in harmony with nature.

Woow. Magnificent place. I heard about it long time ago but had no chance to visit till last weekend and it was worth for such long drive. Knowing the history of the place and native culture goes back to 6000 years. Mind blowing for me. Also, layer by layer display of the soil which contains buffalo remains in last 6000 years, stunning. I have more respect to the native people than before after visiting and learning one of their sacred place.

🦬 Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump – A Powerful Connection to the Past—We’ve visited Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump a few times over the years, and each time it gets better. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable—they really bring the history to life. The site is well-maintained, and the washrooms were clean, which is always appreciated. This year, we noticed some new features added since our last visit, which made the experience feel fresh. They offer family packages and discounted rates for veterans and their families, which is a thoughtful touch. No need to book in advance—we walked in on a weekend and had no issues, even with tour buses coming through. 🐾 Heads-up for pet owners: Dogs aren’t allowed inside the interpretive centre, but there’s a shaded waiting area outside where you can sit with your pup. They even provide water bowls, which was a kind gesture. ✅ Tip: If you’re heading south from Pincher Creek or exploring the Waterton area, this is a must-stop. It’s not just a museum—it’s a place to reflect, learn, and connect with Indigenous history in a meaningful way.

Super friendly staff and a clean, well maintained building and trails. I did the trails to the kill site, and met a deer along the way. Educational tour. I had no idea the excavation of the site discovered the site had been used for about 6000-7000 years! Very cool.

This was an incredible experience. The indigenous people of this land had systems and processes in place for thousands of years that have been adapted and still used today. They were resourceful, environmentally aware, deeply spiritual and then white man came along. I was so moved by the story and impressed by the visitor centre and how they honoured the stories. Great building, great staff and well worth the visit.
Matthew M — Google review
Very interesting site, for those with a curiosity about the culture of Canada's Indigenous population. You can get through the whole interpretive center in about an hour. Make sure you go to the theater and watch the short 15 minute film about the buffalo herd cliff stampede. Then at the end you can grab a cap or tshirt that says 'Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump'. Not everyone has one of those. A guaranteed conversation starter. If the weather permits take a short stroll to see the cliffs just outside the center.

One can easily spend an hour or more visiting this very comprehensive museum. It is spread throughout a number of buildings and every one is very interesting. It has a little bit of everything from native artifacts, ranching, early small town living and all the pieces are in amazing condition. Well worth the stop!

Just my opinion, but I think this is the BEST museum between Calgary and Lethbridge. The friends of the museum and the staff are kind and helpful. This museum works on donations and no entry fee. This is a MUST see if going through Claresholm. It is a good slice of Alberta heritage.

The Fort Museum, established in 1957, is a significant site dedicated to preserving the history of the NWMP and First Nations People. It proudly hosts the world-famous NWMP Musical Ride since 1973. The museum offers informative displays showcasing the history of the NWMP/RCMP and their way of life in the rugged western frontier. Visitors can also enjoy interactive experiences such as climbing towers, petting animals, and experiencing live music during the musical ride.
An underrated place you must visit. You can pay to groom your horse and learn about them. Then you are taken for a ride on your horse. Our family of 8 went. Some of us have never been so close to horses before but it was well worth the experience in petting them to actually seeing them as harmless and quite friendly. The Fort is a must. As there is a lot of Blackfoot history in the museum along with many artifacts from others as well. ALL the workers from inside to the trainers were really friendly and made it all wonderful. They work very hard and it shows. Our family are really happy to have met them and have this experience.

We stopped by the Fort Museum Trading Post Gift Shop and were so impressed! There’s such a great mix of clothing, shoes, unique gifts, and souvenirs. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the renovations made it much easier for my mother-in-law to get around. So glad they’re open year-round now — we’ll definitely be back and already got our membership! And they have goats to pet!

This place is awesome. Such a great history lesson. Exhibits are very informative and lots of neat things to see. Staff are amazing here and very helpful and friendly. My lil one really liked climbing the towers, petting the goats and horses and really enjoyed the music that went with the musical ride. Would definitely take him there again.

Thus was such a buzz for me having grown up watching movies and shows with these iconic Forts. It is a very cool display and re-creation/restoration of the original Fort.

CPF Alberta & NWT hosted a day of educational programming here at the Fort Museum. The Fort Museum provided an unforgettable day for our group, immersing participants in the fascinating history of the North West Mounted Police and the region. The staff were friendly, organized, and willing to share their knowledge with the help of a translator, making the experience both educational and fun. Our group loved the authentic displays and interactive elements, and the atmosphere made it easy to imagine life in the fort’s early days. The museum team’s hospitality and attention to detail helped make our program a success, and we highly recommend this venue for group visits, school programs, and cultural events.

We had a great day getting out of the rain on our camping trip exploring the Fort. Rich history of the Mounted police and of the areas history! Service was good, would have enjoyed seeing the gots out, but the facilities were excellent! This is a great family activity.

Good museum and musical ride experience at The Fort Museum. I visited last week, and had a great time. Lots of well curated historical displays. I highly recommend paying the extra charge for the musical ride. I got there at 9AM and stayed until the end of the musical ride at about 10:30AM.
John B — Google review
A huge disappointment! Drove from Calgary on August long weekend. Visited website before leaving and NO WHERE did it say the RCMP musical ride was cancelled. Had to repurchase admission tickets because the ticket app is not accepted on site. There was zero onsite site enhancements or a single interaction to bring the place to life. Very boring. Will never come back. Heritage Park in Calgary is a much superior choice.
