Portland Head Light is a historic lighthouse that has been in operation since 1791 and now serves as a navigation museum. It is located on the rocky and picturesque coastline within Ft. Williams Park. Visitors can enjoy scenic views of the surrounding area and explore the lighthouse's rich history. Additionally, nearby attractions such as Two Lights State Park offer further opportunities for exploration and enjoyment.
We really enjoyed visiting Portland Head Light, even though it was quite busy when we went. The lighthouse is absolutely stunning — one of the most photographed in the U.S. — and it’s easy to see why. The view over the rocky coastline is just breathtaking. The walking paths around Fort Williams Park are great for exploring and give you plenty of chances to enjoy the landscape and ocean views. There are picnic areas, a small museum in the keeper’s house, and even a couple of food trucks nearby for a quick bite. It’s a place you can easily spend a few hours just walking, taking photos, and soaking in the scenery. Definitely worth the visit if you’re in the Portland area!

The view is just breathtaking. Such a picture perfect place. We got some amazing pictures. Lots of place around for the kids to play. Paid parking We visited first week of October. Make sure to go around sunset and you get amazing photos when the light hits the water.
Nayana M — Google review
I visited the Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth on a beautiful Friday evening, and it truly lived up to its reputation as one of Maine’s most breathtaking landmarks. The panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean with waves crashing against the rugged cliffs was absolutely stunning, a perfect spot for photos, quiet reflection, or simply taking in the coastal beauty. Parking was very reasonable at $6 for 2 hours, and there was plenty of space when I arrived. The park closes sharply at 5 PM, so it’s best to plan your visit earlier in the afternoon if you want enough time to explore and enjoy the scenery. Despite being a popular attraction, it wasn’t crowded during my visit, which made it even more peaceful. The historical significance of this lighthouse adds so much character. Built in 1791, it’s the oldest lighthouse in Maine, and you can feel that sense of heritage as you walk around the surrounding Fort Williams Park. The nearby museum gives a quick but insightful peek into its past, from guiding early ships to serving as a symbol of maritime resilience. Overall, Portland Head Light is a must-visit serene, scenic, and rich with history. I walked away feeling both relaxed and inspired, watching the sunset cast a golden glow across the lighthouse and the sea.
Vijay T — Google review
Such a wonderful lighthouse with BEAUTIFUL views. There is a small museum with admission only being a couple dollars per person and it is very worth it. So much history there, it’s fascinating. The trails were maintained and plenty of parking. Several food and coffee trucks scattered throughout the grounds as well.
Achlee B — Google review
Beautiful views! Parking is plenty, but the light house area is quite a walk from parking - BUT this little spot in the world is so beautiful!! There are food trucks in several areas in this park - we tried the blueberry pie ice cream and the black raspberry ice cream truck near the light house and it was AMAZING! There is a small fee for parking, but the parking meters are easily accessible. There are porta-potties near the parking area.
Tracey C — Google review
Iconic, Essential, and Breathtaking Portland Head Light is not just a lighthouse; it is the definitive, iconic experience you must have when visiting Portland. As the "first lighthouse" in the area, its historical significance is palpable, but the real magic is in the sheer, breathtaking beauty of the location. We spent a wonderful afternoon here exploring the grounds, taking photographs, and simply soaking in the atmosphere. The park offers plenty of space to walk around and find the perfect vantage point. If you want to capture the true spirit of coastal Maine and tick off an essential Portland activity, this is the place. It's truly a must-do landmark that lives up to all the hype.
Katherine — Google review
This is a lovely light House outside of Portland in Cape Elizabeth. If you have a car you can drive there and pay for parking. There is a public bus that will take you half way but you will have to walk 45 minutes the rest of the way. Your best bet would be Uber or Lyft. Its not much going ($15) but double the price ($41) returning. It takes about 15 minutes. Reception is very bad there also so it'll take a while for a signal. You may want to reserve an Uber back. It's worth it for the views. There is also a cliff walk and Fort Williams. The Lighthouse museum is $2 located in the Lighthouse keeper's house. They also have a short tour conducted by a park ranger at 11:00am. They have three food trucks located in the park. It should take about 4-5 hours.
Lisa L — Google review
We really enjoyed the Portland Head Light. We did go after it was closed but it was still really nice. Even after hours there were a lot of visitors. Honestly, The only constructive criticism I could give would be to extend the hours even another hour to accommodate more people because as I said, there were still a great many coming and going. I had to take pictures looking up, or to avoid the crowds because there were so many people enjoying it. Other than the people, it was very well kept up. Very enjoyable!

Love this museum. Absolutely gorgeous collection of art pieces spread throughout several indoor galleries. Easy to navigate. Staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. There’s a nearby parking garage about 10 minutes walking distance from this museum. We arrived when museum opened at 10:00 and went through entire museum in about 1.5 to 2 hours. Highly recommend this gem! This museum is very clean and well-maintained. There are public restrooms here as well as a store and cafe. Prices are reasonable; we paid $20 per adult.

A nice place to spend a morning or afternoon in the city. Super cool exhibits along with a historic home. The building itself is quite stunning as well! Could easily spend 1-2 hours here. They have discounts for students, youth, and seniors!

I really enjoyed the Portland Museum of Art. It’s a manageable size, which makes it perfect for a casual visit without getting museum fatigue. The first floor has some real gems, including an impressive Whistler and a few stunning works by Sargent. There are also a few Monets that kind of sneak up on you with how peaceful and luminous they are. The whole space feels welcoming, thoughtfully arranged, and not too crowded. It’s a great little cultural break if you’re spending time in Portland.
Varto B — Google review
This museum is in the heart of beautiful downtown Portland Maine. Great adventures short walk through the city to get there. The staff is just wonderful and very informative. Fabulous works of art. 1 of My favorite was the marble statue of our 18th president Ulysses S Grant. It's a must see for all art lovers. I'm looking forward to going back.
Melissa C — Google review
A classic modern build US art museum, architecturally pleasant and well thought out. Cafe and shop. Not cheap to enter. Art is mainly contemporary or modern. None of it great but little is poor. Some I would call folk art. Much of it is interesting. All labelling is achingly woke, and certainly not objective, as befits Portland's status. Beware of large quantities of street sleepers in the area throughout the day. The locals just pretend they are not there since it conflicts with their perception of the place as a liberal heaven.
Mike S — Google review
The real deal- I had a rainy afternoon before a flight, and finally decided to check this museum out, I had passed by several times before. It's surprisingly well-curated, small enough if you wanted to linger over every display in the place you could, but also something you could enjoy in an hour without feeling like you skipped too much. The surprise for me was that museums in smaller cities can be hit or miss, but this one is easily on par with big city collections (just on a small scale). There's public spaces to linger, a variety of art including some loaned masterworks, fun gallery designs that separate the people moving through so it doesn't feel crowded. Regional artists and themes are also well represented. The museum was founded in the late 1800s, so it's not a newcomer- adding to the pedigree is an affiliated art school, and for us visitors, that also means a cool cafe culture in the immediate area- be sure to get your caffeine fix in the area.
Omar S — Google review
We visited on a late Saturday afternoon in mid-June 2025. We arrived with only about 2 hrs before the museum closed. Parking was a bit tricky but we found street parking about a block away. We were prepared to use our NARM (North American Reciprocal Museum) Membership discount which included 2 free adults and kids under 21 are free. BUT It was the Pride Portland Open House. Free Admission All Day 10-6PM. There had a bunch of decorations inside and outside. They had free candies and other merch too. It was cool and very rainbow. When you walk in there was a security guard and a info table to the left. The museum gift shop was just further back on the left. The gift shop was a fairly large size and had some really cool items for sale. The layout was a little confusing but I've been to way more complicated art museums. This one was actually a little bigger than I thought. We started on the main floor we entered in and went all the way to the back of the museum. There were a number of themed rooms back here. I did get scolded by a staff member about taking photos in a section that didn't allow photos. To be fair the no photography signs were TINY and a little symbol on the info plaques for those pieces. I did complain that no one would see that. They told me it was because those pieces were on loan to the museum and with specific instructions that they are not to be photographed as it would decrease their value. Sounds dumb to me but I'm not the owner. There is a large outdoor sculpture area but you have to enter it from the outside of the museum. The front desk lady said we could walk outside afterwards to visit it but that came to bite us in the butt because with 15 mins before closing we decided to head outside to see it and the gate was locked. We went back inside and the lady said oh, the staff must've locked it up early. Sorry... big eye roll... Anyways we went upstairs and there were 3 floors up and a basement I well I think. The other floors were great with art of all type. There were a ton of very colorful pieces which I thought was very fitting for pride month. There are some awesome sculptures on the top floor included what the kids dubbed "seal torpedo". Also the diamond stag like Harry Potter's Patronus. We did take the elevator up and then the stairs back down which were hilarious as there were tons of birds and seagulls hanging from the ceiling and there was a giant window covered in bird poop. I don't know if that was on purpose or not. All the way in the basement there is a small cafe shop. There was no one there and we were not sure if they were open or not. The bathrooms and water fountains are also in the basement. There weren't very many people in the museum honestly. We only saw 5 or 6 groups the ENTIRE time. Overall it was a great visit and we'd definitely visit again. Especially if the price is FREE. It was nice to have the museum mostly to ourselves. Most the other ones we visited on our road trip was SUPER packed. We sort of saw everything in those 2 hrs we were there (minus the outside sculptures) and had time to shop the gift shop. We did run through pretty quickly. I think 3 hrs would've been perfect and we have 3 kids. One of which is ADHD and we survived.
David L — Google review
If you have 2 hrs to spare, why not stroll through the halls of this museum of art. My favorite painting is one of tattered boats overcoming the elements in the aftermath of the storm. I don't understand the contemporary arts but I guess I don't have the eyes for them.

Hooligans Steak and Ale

Mentioned on

American restaurant
Hooligans Steak and Ale is a historic establishment located on The Pier in OOB, offering a unique blend of Irish pub vibes with a New England twist. Visitors can enjoy live entertainment including comedy shows and music performances. The pier itself features various shops, sports bars, and dining options, making it an exciting destination for tourists. While the food at Hooligans Steak and Ale is described as good, some find the portions to be small and prices somewhat high.
We ordered fries calamari, steak and burger. we love the food especially the batter that the calamari was fried with, the steak was cooked well. The ocean view was really nice too.
Kyle V — Google review
Hooligans Landing definitely delivered on the eats and entertainment. The Crab Rangoons were crispy, creamy, and totally addictive, and the steak tips? Melt in your mouth amazing. Legit worth coming back for just those. Karaoke night brought the energy whether people could sing or not, it was all good vibes and lots of laughs. Loved the atmosphere. That said, the service missed the mark. Our waitress assumed my food was for my boyfriend without asking, even though I was the one who ordered, awkward moment that didn’t get addressed, let alone apologized for. We were just trying to have a good night, and that kind of assumption was not it. Overall, I’d go back for the food and fun, just hoping the service steps up next time.
Uchizi P — Google review
Food was really good. Prices were competitive to other places in town. Both burgers were tasty even though they were a bit overcooked. We ordered the medium and they came out Well done. Lobster quesadilla was very tasty. Boom boom sauce was delish! Calamari was good and not chewy. Service was friendly but a little slow. We sat on the balcony area because the inside was so loud that we couldn't hear the hostess or waitress. The view from the balcony was awesome!
TodayIsOurAdventure — Google review
Extremely disappointed - would recommend avoiding food here completely. My wife and I visited Hooligans for lunch towards the end of July during peak season. Old Orchard Beach is a touristy area and our expectations were set appropriately for crowds, prices, etc. These factors played no part in our experience. We ordered the Philly egg rolls and clam chowder to start, accompanied by the tuna melt and fish and chips. The picture included was of the $28 fish and chips. Underwhelmed does not serve the experience justice. The fish and fries were extremely dry and for the price I would have expected a larger portion. The waitress did not come over once after the meals were served. It was almost as if she were embarrassed by what she brought out. I could not even finish the meal due to how dry it was. When asked how the meal was as the table was being cleared, I commented on how dry it was and she offered to have it remade or pass the comments on to the kitchen. She also indicated that there was no manager working to speak to. This is concerning for many reasons considering it is peak season in the area and apparently there was not a person with the authority to address concerns on staff. Additionally, the comments to the kitchen were passed on in what seemed to be 30 seconds. The $100+ bill was delivered with no apology or reduction. We also noticed "the kitchen" leaning against equipment on their phone as we walked out. We will not be going back and I strongly recommend other options be considered before dining here. Very unfortunate.

Haven't been here in over 22 years a lot sure has changed. Loved the Old Pier two or three restaurants and shops there. It was the tourist season so very crowded. A great area for families lots of amusements, food stands, shops, arcades and of course 7 miles of sandy beach to enjoy the beautiful Maine coastline.
Diane M — Google review
My family and I recently went on a trip here on a recommendation made by my daughter. Seeing as the family I went with are from a different state and I had never been before, we were all pleasantly surprised to see that there were many activities for us to keep busy with. The beach was beautiful, while the water was shivering cold, once we got used to it we were able to make great memories here. The amusement park was great, all the rides and games that were available was well worth the 2 hour car trip that we had to take to get there. There are many shops along the sidewalks, all of which are in close proximity to each other and are filled with souvenirs for everyone. One thing that I think could be improved is the pricing of the general area. The restaurant and shops, while nice in quality and quantity, have some truly ridiculously expensive items. My daughter and sister ordered two burgers with fries and wings, the total was over 70 dollars. The food was pretty good, but the wait time and pricing for it definitely was not worth it. Keep in mind, not all shops are like this, but you definitely need to go often to figure out which shops are best for certain items. I also think that the fact there are no free public rest rooms is a little ridiculous. The staff was very nice, but we had to pay 50 cents every time we needed to go to the bathroom. Some other restrooms were 75 cents. It may not seem like a lot, but for the amount of people in my family, thats about 7 dollars added to the trip. Again, it may not seem like much, but parking was 35 dollars,(later on in the night it was reduced to 20) over 70 for food, 30 for beach toys, (a bucket and shovel and umbrella) and about 20 for 3 ice creams which actually was the most reasonably priced thing here (the portions were ginormous!) Over all, the trip was enjoyed by everyone I had brought with me and was very relaxing. I would 100% recommend to someone and I plan on going again next year!

I ordered some bulk live lobsters from the lobster shack, while picking up my order and I parked in the loading zone with my car and a 50 gallon cooler, the municipality gave me a parking ticket for parking in a loading zone, The police department said if it was a commercial transaction that it would be allowed, I own a commercial business but I bought lobsters we could play the word game but I was trying to be honest and they were not very receptive.

A quaint little sea side town. Sure, it’s mostly a tourist trap with all the shops, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t super fun and that I couldn’t find cute things. The smell of the ocean is amazing, and all the boats are amazing to watch folks work. Worth the visit. Plus, leads to the gorgeous Marginal Way.

Finally! I didn't have to be stuck in traffic in the summer to visit! I walked the Marginal Way trail from Stearns Rd, which isn't very far. Enjoyable short walk around the Cove and across the bridge. Nice views of the ocean 🌊 and the fishing 🎣 vessels. I'm not certain how much parking 🅿️ is, but, space is limited and there is a parking 🅿️ meter to pay. Public restrooms available. Restaurants and shoppes to check out. I only visited a cafe since my time was limited. Go off season, end 🔚 of April, to avoid the crowds and go early.

Landmarks we Know. Back to Gloucester exploring the coast and the Essex Coastal Scenic Byway. We visited this memorial in 1979. It is great to be back to remember our fellow sailors. The inscription is from the Bible, specifically Psalm 107:23, 24, which reads: "They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep". #abuelosmochileros_landmarks #abuelosmochileros_gloucester #abuelosmochileros_massachusetts

It is wonderful path in the middle of the city. The flowers are just so beautiful and it makes the walk around there worthwhile. You can see also go in the water as there is a mini beach version of it. You can walk to the rocks and enjoy the view of the water. Ample parking available on the street. The most amusing things is that you can see the bridge open for boats to cross which causes traffic but it's nice to watch. Well maintained and definitely worth stopping here for the walk!

This entire Waterfront area is very nice for walking sitting on a bench looking at the ocean and taking advantage of the lobster roll truck. One of the best lobster rolls I've had in a long time in the ladies running it were so pleasant and when I expressed how good the food was they were genuinely appreciative

Beautiful!!! Walking path right by the water. A park is close with rocks to climb for a better view.. Bonus.. They had flowers beds down the strip between the water and road. 💕

Our walk was extremely pleasant and relaxing despite the slow rain. The park and flower beds are gorgeous.

Plimoth Patuxet Museums

Museums
Plimoth Patuxet Museums, formerly known as Plimoth Plantation, encompasses several historic sites, with the 17th-century English Village being the largest. This village is a faithful recreation of the Pilgrims' original settlement, complete with costumed actors and activities. The carefully chosen ground reflects the original topography and street layout. Visitors can explore replicas of key structures like the fort and houses of prominent figures from that era.
If you’re on the east coast you definitely should make this a required stop!!! Recommended to me by a friend. Well worth the visit. The workers /actors are very knowledgeable and stay in character as they work about the original pilgrim village sharing stories of hardship and hope and friendships with the native Indian tribes. They worked together. Helped one another. Amazing how they survived and had the courage to come to this land and courage to stay. Great gift should as well. The grounds are beautiful.

The Mayflower II was a very cool experience! We did that first before going over to see Plymouth Rock. The Patuxet Museum is interesting. It is not at the original site. Instead it was built on an estate that was donated by a family. The history is there and the employees do a great job of fulfilling their roles by acting and speaking like the pilgrims and Native Americans did during that time. It is a pretty good hike to get around to the different areas of what used to be known as Plymouth plantation. What made it really work is the golf cart and the driver. He was excellent! He really went out of his way to be prompt and not only show us things but also tell us about them as we moved from site to site. I did think it was absolutely amazing that in the Native American area they are actually making canoes the way that they were made back in the day. And I loved the gardening and processing of the food that was occurring. Overall an excellent experience and you get the history of what it was like for the pilgrims to come. But really and truly the area just kind of throws it off. We had purchased a pass for all three events but at the end of the day we’re too tired to go to the grist Mill. We were hoping we would get to a point where we could just see it but it is very well hidden at the top of a hill.We did not end up making it there. Definitely hard to do this in an afternoon. You would likely need a day to get through all three or break it up into two separate 3-4 hour events.

We brought a group here to take in the displays and enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner. It did not disappoint. We found the “docents” in the Patuxet and English villages to be very knowledgable and interesting. The interior displays were also well designed and easy to explore. Our group hired Plentiful Catering to provide our traditional Thanksgiving meal and it was magnificent. Special thanks to Janet and Erin for helping to arrange a most enjoyable visit.

If you like history, even in the slightest bit, this is the stop for you. The facilities have been upgraded quite a bit over the years and are outstanding. Once you get out into the colony, it is immersive with the actors taking on the roles of each of the pilgrims. Absolutely cannot recommend this place enough!
S J — Google review
This is an absolute must-do in Plymouth — especially if you’re a history buff! 📜 Even with the cold rain, we had a wonderful time. The reenactments were incredible — spot on — and the actors never once broke character. You truly feel like you’ve stepped back in time. I learned so much about both the Pilgrims and the Indigenous people who originally inhabited the area. The experience completely changed my perspective — I had always seen the Pilgrims in a certain light, but hearing the detailed, balanced stories from the staff and reenactors gave me a much deeper understanding of the history and culture on both sides. The site itself is interactive — everything, even the wooden structures, can be touched, and they encourage you to do so. That hands-on element made the visit even more immersive and enjoyable. Highly recommend: get the Heritage Pass, which includes admission to three local museums in the Plymouth area. It’s 100% worth every penny and gives you a full picture of this historic region. Rain or shine, this is an unforgettable experience that brings history to life! 🌧️🏡✨

Love going to these museums and seeing the town of Plymouth. The main campus was beautiful. We had helpful staff at every point in our trip. These people love their jobs and are good at it!! The Native American area is neat to see the day ti day tasks and how people lived. The setting is amazing and the smell of smoke adds to the scene. The staff is very knowledgeable about everything. I loved the English area as well. It was so immersive and every detail was thought out. The staff are actually working there to keep the village running. It is quite impressive. But 10/10 to the staff for being friendly and helpful. I learned a lot. I bought the package that included Grist Mill and Mayflower II. Highly recommend. It was a great way to spend most of the day around Plymouth.

The protection Museum was well done and I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with the actors and actresses. This is my ninth great grandfather John Holland, and the reconstructed house that he lived in. In town also there is that Holland house the last house standing in Plymouth, where pilgrims lived! The mayflower ship was amazing and we brought our bikes through the town and enjoyed our visit immensely!
Janine B — Google review
staff and actors are all very helpful and friendly. I have ancestors who came over on the mayflower and actors were able to talk some about them. I got bit by a flying insect in the native American area and the staff were very helpful and willing to get first aid if I had needed it. (thankfully I didn't need it).

Sights & Landmarks
Plymouth Rock is a significant monument located in Pilgrim Memorial State Park in Plymouth Harbor. It symbolizes the arrival of the Mayflower Pilgrims to the New World in 1620 and represents their faith and courage. The rock, a glacial erratic boulder, is believed to be where the pilgrims first stepped ashore, although there is no historical evidence to support this claim.
My daughters and I visited Plymouth Rock in March. I definitely recommend reading about all what happened at Plymouth Rock before you go there. It will really help you understand the importance of this beautiful site. I also loved seeing the replica of the Mayflower. It gave me a greater appreciation for one of my ancestors who came to America on the Mayflower. Must see!!

Very nice relaxing Little village. Would be five stars if the Mayflower 2 was actually there to visit. We visited unknowing the ship would be at sail getting coast guard certified the same day. The Shop owners along the pier we're very nice. Once you park there are plenty of nice little restaurants in walking distance to grab a bite and drink. Parking is reasonable with I think a 4 hr max for like 6 dollars.

While underwhelming in size, it is a monumental symbol in American history. The monument that the Plymouth Rock is in is beautiful and gives visitors a good view of this iconic symbol of the Pilgrims arriving in North America. Enjoy the other sights around including Mayflower II and the other monuments around town.

Plymouth Rock is exactly what you’d expect — a rock engraved with “1620.” It’s an iconic piece of history, but a quick stop overall. The rock sits low on the beach behind metal bars, with a viewing platform above for easy viewing and photos. It’s conveniently located right by the water and in the center of town, making it easy to visit while exploring the area. There was a state park worker on-site to answer questions, though their knowledge was somewhat limited. Still, it’s worth a visit for the historical significance and the chance to see such a well-known American landmark in person.
Melissa J — Google review
I haven't visited the landmark in many years, but went to show someone up from Rhode Island who had never seen it. The Plaques of historical data were new to me, the statue of the Daughters of the American Revolution was as well. I am a true Daughter of the American Revolution myself, passed on through the generations of my father's Mother, so I was happy to send the picture of the statue to my 95 year old grandmother, who is in Florida still driving and playing bridge! The Mayflower II is still a beautiful site. We saw the three monuments and the Standish Monument in the distance, all in about 20 minutes. Of course there are wonderful restaurants, gift shops, and ice cream, etc. along the waterfront, by the famous rock, as well.

Ah, downtown Plymouth, MA—a picturesque coastal jewel that's as vibrant as it is historic! 🌊✨ Wandering through its streets is like stepping into a timeless painting, where the brushstrokes are the lively people, and the colors are the sunny skies and salty sea air. 🚶‍♂️🎨 Start your journey with a stroll down the charming main drag, where shops and cafes are nestled like pearls in an oyster. 🛍️☕️ The shop windows gleam with inviting displays, while the aroma of fresh seafood wafts from eateries like a siren's song! 🎣🥙 Historical whispers flutter about as you pass Pilgrim Hall Museum, where tales of daring adventurers linger in the corners. 📜🕰️ And if you listen closely, you might hear the gentle laughter of ghosts from the Mayflower II, forever anchored in everyone’s hearts. 🚢👻 Plymouth is not just a destination but an experience. It wraps you in its rich tapestry of history and charm, leaving you with memories as bright and colorful as a New England autumn🍂📸

Plymouth rock itself is not much to look at. But the general seaside spot is good for a touristy trip. However the Mayfair ship section is quite interesting and the small museum pays homage to the first arrivals.

Hampton Beach State Park, located at the mouth of the Hampton River in New Hampshire, offers a classic New England seaside experience. The 50-acre park features white-sand beaches with tidal pools for kids and a vibrant boardwalk lined with restaurants, shops, and amusements. Visitors can enjoy swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, sunbathing on the well-maintained shoreline, or taking leisurely strolls along the water's edge.
Very clean beach! Multiple restrooms spaced out on boulevard. Places to sit under shelter and enjoy the view. Bands play on different nights on outside stage. Many restaurants for all types of food and many beach shops. Arcade of course. Everyone was well behaved the three different days i went. Boulevard traffic jams all afternoon. Might need to park further away. No matter where you park it will cost you $20-30.
Diane — Google review
If you’re going to Hampton Beach for the first time, be sure to research parking ahead of time. It gets pretty crowded, at least in the summer. The beaches are clean. On certain days they have free concerts right off the beach along the walkway at the main building. Restaurants and shops line the road and there are plenty of options. Riptides are prevalent so swim with caution.
Eric H — Google review
This is a well maintained beach with clean restrooms. There is a camping area near the road for campers if you have a fully contained RV or trailer, no tents allowed. The beach area and entry to water is fairly flat making it easy to walk and enter shallow water. There is a rocky jetty for fishing. The hardest part is walking through loose sand to get to beach; I wish they had a mat or boardwalk to make it easier for hauling wagons, coolers, chairs and such. Overall great experience.

Love visiting here. Parking can be tough. Much busier on the weekends. Many evenings in the summer they have events going on regularly, fireworks, live music, sandcastle building, etc. Fairly family friendly, but some parts of town can have people i wouldn't want around my children, but you can just avoid them pretty easily. Sand and water are great.

Hard to get same site for 3 nights. We had to move our trailer and saw many other people do the same. Nice location. On the ocean. Can't wait to go back, if we lucky to get a spot. Full hookup, water/ electric.

Traveled up to Hampton Beach, NH for our 4th year attending the Seafood Festival. This 3 day event is an absolute must. Such a great venue, food, entertainment and can access it all conveniently on foot. I recommend securing a local motel on the strip so one can walk and take a desired break in between. Local and visiting Vendors provide so many options as well as the music entertainment over the 3 day event. Location and beach is beautiful with life guards present. Local bars also provide great food, entertainment & atmosphere after hours. Looking forward to returning next year! 5*****

One of the best beach parks we’ve ever visited! Hampton Beach State Park exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, everything was well-maintained, organized, and welcoming. We had reserved parking online (which I highly recommend during peak season), and the process was smooth — staff checked our name and plate, and we were parked in no time. The parking lot is close to the beach, so we didn’t have to walk far with our gear. The beach itself is beautiful — wide, clean, and covered with soft sand. It’s perfect for walking, playing, or just relaxing by the waves. The water was chilly but refreshing, and the lifeguards on duty gave us peace of mind while the kids played near the shoreline. We found plenty of space even on a busy Saturday, and the whole atmosphere felt safe and family-friendly. Facilities were excellent. Clean restrooms, changing areas, and a small playground added extra convenience for families. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was also nice to see how well the park enforces rules like no littering and no idling, which helps keep the air fresh and the area pleasant for everyone. We stayed well into the evening and watched the sunset — absolutely breathtaking. Afterward, we walked along the lively boardwalk just outside the state park, which was full of shops, arcades, restaurants, and live music. It’s the perfect way to end a beach day. Although we didn’t use the campground this time, we saw plenty of RVs set up near the water, and it looked like a great option for those staying overnight. In short, Hampton Beach State Park is clean, beautiful, well-managed, and offers a great balance of nature and fun. Whether you’re visiting for a few hours or planning a full beach day, it’s well worth it. We’ll definitely be coming back — maybe next time with the RV!

The House of the Seven Gables

Sights & Landmarks
"The House of the Seven Gables" is a restored 1668 home in Salem, Massachusetts that inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel. The house offers tours and features verdant seaside gardens. While Salem has its share of somber architecture, there is more to the city than brooding structures like this historic house. A walk down Chestnut Street reveals lighter yet historically significant homes from the Colonial era.
We visited the House of The Seven Gables for the first time this week and were absolutely blown away!! Our tour guide, Stephen, was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. His delivery of information about the history of the grounds and house was engaging and entertaining!! We absolutely loved the experience. Climbing up the hidden staircase was thrilling, as was just taking in the scenic views from the second floor rooms. The tour was lovely, the front desk, gift shop, and other staff members were accommodating and friendly. We would love to return, perhaps in the autumn or winter, but I can imagine that it is perfect at any time of year.

Never read the book, but looked interesting, my wife had and wanted to go. The tie guide was very knowledgeable in the story, the home, architecture, hawthorne and his lineage and she made the tour very enjoyable. The grounds are beautiful and also very interesting. One great thing i never knew was the effort to help people gain legal citizenship through classes which also help teach English. Really great to know money from my tour goes to this. A wonderful cause.

The House of the Seven Gables is one of Salem’s crown jewels - part museum, part literary landmark, part seaside retreat. It’s always busy, especially during peak Halloween season, so it’s best to reserve tickets in advance if you want to tour the interior. Even if tours are sold out, don’t skip it: the reduced-fare grounds ticket (around $15) is still a great value. It grants access to the scenic property, the gift shop, the restrooms, the Hawthorne birth home, and some of the outlying buildings, plus the stunning waterfront area. Between the historic architecture, the sea breeze, and the view of the harbor, it’s a peaceful escape from downtown’s chaos. The guided tour of the main Gables house is a highlight as it’s informative without being dry, blending stories of the real Turner family with Hawthorne’s inspiration for his classic novel. Walking through the low-ceilinged rooms, antique furnishings, and especially climbing the narrow hidden staircase tucked inside the walls is a thrill for any history or literature lover. The guides do an excellent job of capturing both the historical and literary importance of the site while keeping things engaging for visitors of all ages. The self-guided Hawthorne birth home, meanwhile, is smaller but equally fascinating, displaying authentic period furniture and personal items tied to Hawthorne’s family. The grounds themselves are worth lingering in. Between the gardens, cobblestone paths, and panoramic views of the waterfront, there’s no shortage of photo opportunities or places to simply sit and take in the atmosphere. On warm days, the wind coming off the water makes it a perfect spot to cool down and relax before heading back toward the bustle of Essex Street. The gift shop deserves its own mention too, stocked with locally inspired books, literary souvenirs, and even games that tie into Salem’s history. Whether you’re there for Hawthorne, colonial history, or just the coastal New England charm, the House of the Seven Gables absolutely lives up to its legend.

We went in September and the gardens were in bloom and it was not crowded. Our guide made our experience very enjoyable. The gift shop has item such as tee shirts saying I survived the secret staircase. For seniors admission five dollars less. I am not sure but the proceeds go towards the economy of the town of Salem. There is a lot of walking to be done but there are benches in places. There are great views of the water to.

This was a treat for me being that I read the book. Its a very neat tour and a very cool house and the grounds are SPECTACULAR. It has very little to do with the Salem Witches though. If you like old buildings and historical feeling things, this may be worth it for you. If you skip the house tour your won't be missing anything truly relevant to the trials or Halloween. I do recommend the grounds tour though. Especially if you love a majestic view. The pictures I took do not do it justice. Also, no ghosts were felt or spotted during the tour.
Cherri G — Google review
Purchase tickets in advance!! There are a lot of stairs with some being very narrow. Low ceilings as well just FYI. Definitely worth it though. Amazing experience! It was wonderful tour full of information an surprises! Parking is included with your tour ticket. You can park about 20 mins prior to your tour time and stay for 1 hour after your tour ends.
Marcos P — Google review
It was a great experience and our tour guild was informative and funny. My only issue is they gave you a map of the grounds but not the inside of the house so i felt a little lost in the house. But overall a good visit.
EJ 1 — Google review
Cool tour. If you are into early American history, or literature you'll love this tour. This is a house built in the early 1600's and has survived and been restored over the years. A relative of the author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, was a famous American author and visiting this house and listening to his aunt tell him stories of growing up in this house inspired him to write the House of the Seven Gables novel. Has rooms restored to the time period, and original antique furniture and home pieces. The coolest part is a secret stairway that goes behind the fireplace up to the attic. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable.

Museums
The Salem Witch Museum, established in 1972, is a must-visit for first-time travelers to Salem. It offers two main presentations: one delves into the 1692 Salem witch trials using life-size mannequins and prerecorded narration, while the other focuses on 'Witches: Evolving Perceptions,' exploring the history of witch-hunting and the evolution of the term 'witch.'
Well-managed museum with friendly staff. Our guide, Mariana, was knowledgeable and answered all our questions patiently. Tickets go online a day before at 10 PM and tend to sell out quickly, so it’s best to book early. We visited in October, so not sure how busy it gets in other months. The whole tour takes about an hour. Overall, it was a good and informative experience.
Archana N — Google review
Honestly disappointed. My family is glad we went for the experience. But truthfully we were really let down. The recorded narration on the presentation contains inaccurate info that a simple Google search would prove to be wrong. Sorry, but getting an entire person’s (Tituba) race, culture, beliefs, and personal history WRONG just to sell the narrative is inexcusable. Very disappointed in that. And the items that were on display in the “museum” were also a let down and had very little/nothing to do with the actual witch trials at all. We saw a much better exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum, that included copies of documents and letters as well as items owned by the victims. Overall, I would never go and pay the $54 to do this again, and honestly disappointed we spent THAT much for our visit, I fully advise anyone visiting in the future to keep all these things in mind. Because after our visit, we fully understand why they don’t allow filming inside. They definitely don’t want anyone to see how underwhelming it is before going and lose their business. 🥴
Genevieve P — Google review
The first part of the museum was a bit campy and felt somewhat dated. It wasn't terrible and I learned a good bit from it. The second section of the museum was nice and informative. Make sure to get there before your call time because even during the weekday it was very busy. During the month of October they open the tickets 12 hrs before so you have to be strategic to get the slot you want.
Carlos R — Google review
We visited Salem two days before Halloween, so the whole town was super fun and festive, even though the weather wasn’t great. We came across the Salem Witch Museum 1692 and decided to give it a try. It was very busy, with lines to get in, but everything was organized well. You scan a QR code on a sign to buy your tickets, and then line up about 30 minutes before your time slot. Once inside, you enter an auditorium with benches along the wall and small tufted circle seats in the middle. The show begins with the story of the Salem witch trials, told through mannequins positioned around the room, paired with lighting effects and narration. It was dramatized in an interesting way — not quite what I expected, but well done. Afterward, you move into a second exhibit area where a staff member shares more background about witches, the trials, and related cultural and historical facts. The entire experience lasted about 45 minutes. Overall, I think the experience was priced fairly. I wouldn’t have paid much more, but it was worth it to get a better understanding of the history — especially while visiting Salem during Halloween season.
Art R — Google review
I loved the experience but wish it wasn't so structured toward the end. The narrated story was very educational and unique compared to other self guided museums but once you get past that, you get ushered into a smaller room, given a ton of information really fast, and then are expected to head out without being given enough room or space to really observe or read all the displays. I would still recommend going at least once because it's one of those things you just have to do at least once. But I won't go out of my way to go back unless I have a very good reason.
Angelina J — Google review
The Salem Witch Museum is definitely one of the most talked-about attractions in Salem, but it’s important to know what to expect before you go. This is not a walk-through museum filled with exhibits — instead, it’s a guided, staged presentation led by museum employees. The experience begins with a dramatized performance recounting the events of the 1692 Salem witch trials, using lighting, narration, and life-sized figures to tell the story. It’s informative and gives a good overview of the history, but the entire presentation takes less than an hour, so it’s a relatively short visit. Afterward, there’s a small second section with some additional information and, of course, a gift shop at the end. I’d recommend buying tickets in advance, as the museum can get crowded and time slots often fill up quickly — especially during October or weekends. Overall, the Salem Witch Museum offers an interesting, theatrical look at a dark chapter in history, but it’s more of a performance than a traditional museum. While I appreciated the storytelling aspect, I found it to be a bit overhyped given how brief the experience is. Still, it’s worth a stop if you’re already exploring Salem and want a quick introduction to the witch trials.
Kaitlin K — Google review
It was fine. I heard some not so great reviews so I just went for the ghosts that allegedly show up in the photos. The ghosts did not show up in mine. It's essentially a retelling of the events of Salem with some staged exhibits or diorama as they are sometimes called, for dramatic affect. Its worth seeing if you have the time and money. But if you're short on one the other or both, you aren't missing anything. Their gift store is however terrific, that I give 5 stars. And Fattys cookies next door are a MUST.
Cherri G — Google review
We had a great time at this museum. And of all the museums to choose from I'm happy with my choice of prioritizing this one. Tickets go on sale the night before (10pm) for the very next day. I did check at that time and there were lots of tickets for each slot left so I didn't buy it then. I bought the tickets online the day of (we were able to plan the day more accurately this way). Although it was busy they seemed to still be selling seats at the door. (This time of year wasn't busy in Salem in general). The presentation was fantastic. We got seats in the middle of the room but some were seated against the wall. Their experience would be drastically different as the story is told with the exhibits on the wall going around the room. You get lots of themes that would explain the witch trials that took place in Salem. It's a great starting point into the story of Salem. There's lots of books if you want to further dive into any of the themes. The experience takes at least an hour.

The New Bedford Whaling Museum, located in the historic whaling capital of the world, offers a comprehensive look into the global whaling industry. The museum boasts a vast collection of artifacts including complete whale skeletons, preserved body parts, harpoons, and whalebone carvings. Visitors can explore a half-scale model of a whaling ship and learn about the city's significant role in driving the economy through whaling activities.
Great little museum with good amount of information about whaling history. We really like the large boat model in the museum. You will need at least 2hours to read through the information.
Ming C — Google review
This place not only has a great deal about the whaling industry in general, but also how it affected New Bedford’s growth as a town. Fascinating to see all of the ways the immigrants came from across the globe to the US/New Bedford due to whaling and also how they helped contribute to US history for hundreds of years. The museum strikes a balance between showing the usefulness of whaling and details about how things were done, and a realization that while at first the whaling was a helpful source for humans eventually it became too much due to superfluous desires of materials goods and led to the large population decline of the whales. There’s a lot to see, we spent a couple of hours and plan to go back as we couldn’t take it all in. Additionally there are some areas for smaller kids specifically which is nice for the whole family.

Took my daughter here thanks to Bank of America Museum on Us program. It's small enough to spend an afternoon (unless you really dig into the facts and history). They got friendly staff members and volunteers. The 3D movie was also a pleasant experience.

This museum is hard to find, but it is well worth it. It is incredibly interesting and full of all kinds of New England whaling memorabilia, including a replica of a whaling ship. There are skeletons of whales and just an incredible amount of interesting things in this museum. I must’ve spent at least an hour in just the scrimshaw room alone. I can’t recommend this Museum enough.

An Incredible Cultural and Educational Experience! I brought my family to the New Bedford Whaling Museum to experience the Indigenous People’s culture, and the exhibit exceeded my expectations! It was beautifully curated and deeply informative. Parking can be a little tricky to find, so I recommend arriving early. Once inside, though, it’s absolutely worth it. The 3D sea lion movie was a highlight for all of us — so fun and engaging! There are so many exhibits about the whaling industry, marine life, and ocean habitats, and they really make you reflect on the history and importance of conservation. It even inspired me to plan a whale watching trip soon! If you love history, culture, and the sea, this museum is a must-visit. 🌊🐋

On the one hand this museum was an amazing history of whaling and the local environment. But on the other hand, it bears witness to the wholesale slaughter and near extinction of whole species of whales, and so it's also very depressing. But I learned a lot and enjoyed my visit overall.

WOW - this is a fantastic museum. It captures the rich history of whaling in New Bedford and so much more. Ecosystems, multi-cultural contributions, half-scale whaling ship model, indigenous-colonist relations, etc, etc. Worth many visits. I will return.

My husband and I toured the NB Whaling museum on Tuesday afternoon. The facility itself is beautiful and the exhibits are self explanatory. However, we had the priviiedge of a free tour of the museum beginning at 2 PM. The tour was conducted by an excellent docent who really knew everything there was to know about New Bedford in general but most especially about whales. His knowledge was extensive and presented in a very nice fashion, encouraging participants to ask questions on several occasions. The tour really made our day at this museum, so if you go to the museum, be sure that you ask at the front desk about free tours. You won't regret the experience.

The Public Garden, established in 1837 and located adjacent to Boston Common, is a serene and picturesque city park featuring a lagoon, boat rides, fountains, and various attractions. This historic Victorian-era garden boasts meticulously groomed flower beds showcasing 80 plant species, ornate fencing, tree-lined pathways with benches for relaxation, and iconic public art such as the Duckling Sculpture and a statue of George Washington.
My family is here on a college visit and we like to wake up early. We decided to go to the Public garden for the first time on a Sunday morning around 8 am. It was absolutely beautiful. It was quiet and calm. Perfect way to start your day.

Such a beautiful and peaceful spot! I could have stayed all day, especially with the perfect fall weather. I captured some amazing Boston shots during my mini photoshoot. While there were plenty of people and lots of photo-taking happening, there were also plenty of quiet corners to escape the crowds. Truly loved my time here!

The Boston Public Garden is a must-see! It's a gorgeous escape right in the middle of the city, and a perfect spot to relax and get away from all the noise. The trees are stunning, especially in the fall when the colors are just magical. I love watching the squirrels play and taking a stroll along the paved pathways. The famous Swan Boats on the lagoon are a charming sight, and the park is great for all ages. It's completely free to enter, open from dawn to dusk, and super easy to get to with the Arlington and Boylston T stops nearby. Don't forget to say hi to the "Make Way for Ducklings" statue! It's a beautiful, peaceful place that's perfect for a walk, a date, or just unwinding.

Boston Public Garden is a beautiful city park that delights with its natural beauty. An oasis of greenery in the heart of the city, it is perfect for strolling, relaxing, and enjoying the peace and splendor of nature. Its elegance and romantic atmosphere make it one of the most special and beautiful places in Boston.

We love this place! It’s serene and peaceful. This time around, we rode on the Swan Boat which was so nice since the last time we were here was in the Fall and the lake was empty. So glad we were able to check it out in the Summer. Be aware if it’s hot outside, the Swan boat is open so you are exposed to the sun and the elements, but you get a nice breeze from the water.

Loved visiting the public garden. It was so beautiful when we visited. Each tree has a history behind it and a plaque attached telling you where it’s originally from. Lots of space and great for families

Boston Public Garden, located just steps from Boston Common, is truly one of my favorite places in the city! The meticulously maintained gardens, iconic swan boats gliding across the lagoon, and beautiful walking paths create a serene urban oasis—perfect for a quiet stroll or a relaxing afternoon. The floral displays are gorgeously seasonal, and everywhere you look there’s charm: historic statues, shaded benches, and picturesque bridges. The lagoon view, especially at sunset, is postcard-worthy. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this spot is a peaceful escape in the heart of downtown Boston. Highly recommended for a peaceful retreat amid beautiful greenery—can't beat this gem near Boston Common!

A very beautiful garden in a very dirty city. This place was great to visit during my time in Boston, especially since everywhere in this city is filled with trash, more trash than I’ve ever seen in a city and that includes Seattle and New York. This garden was well kept, had so many places to walk and see it was just a great experience, do yourself a favor and check it out!

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is a leading art museum with neoclassical and modern wings that showcase a vast collection ranging from ancient Egyptian artifacts to contemporary American works. The museum features the Fenway Exhibition, "Hokusai: Inspiration and Influence," which pays homage to the iconic 19th-century painter and printmaker Katsushika Hokusai.
I recently visited the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and it was an outstanding experience. The museum's collection is vast and beautifully curated, ranging from ancient Egyptian artifacts to contemporary art. One of the highlights was the impressive collection of Impressionist paintings, featuring works by Monet, Degas, and Renoir. The layout of the museum makes it easy to navigate, with clear signage and plenty of space to enjoy each exhibit without feeling crowded. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, always ready to provide insights or answer questions. I also appreciated the temporary exhibitions, which brought fresh perspectives and unique pieces to the museum. The on-site café and gift shop were excellent additions, offering a pleasant break during the visit. Overall, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is a must-see for anyone interested in art and culture. I would highly recommend setting aside a few hours to truly enjoy everything it has to offer.

The Museum of Fine Arts Boston is incredible. There’s so much to see, from classic masterpieces to contemporary exhibits, and it’s really easy to spend a full day exploring without feeling overwhelmed. The galleries are well laid out, and the museum does a great job of balancing large, famous pieces with smaller, hidden gems! I love how interactive and engaging some of the exhibits are, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The museum has a really welcoming atmosphere, and I always leave inspired and wanting to come back. Whether you’re an art lover or just looking for a fun, cultural day out, the MFA is definitely worth visiting!! :)

Overall, if you’re looking for a fabulous activity to do during the off-season, whether you’re a local or a tourist, MFABoston is an excellent choice! You’ll absolutely love it! Best, Srdan Dokovic

Absolutely amazing museum! Where shall I start?! Egyptian art, European art, Greek and Rome art, impressionist art - blew my mind, amazing collections! Musical instruments collection - mesmerizing! And the best part they open till 10pm on Thursday and Friday. I really appreciated that!

So nice, we went twice! But actually we had a morning planned to see the exhibits and loved what we saw , but had only seen a fraction after a few hours. We went the next day when they have $5 late night tickets to see some more. There's still so much to see and it's all so interesting. The cafe was good for a lunch. The staff were all super friendly. Set aside at least a day to visit if you want to see the highlights of all the exhibits.

Extremely popular attraction for tourists and locals. Not too crowded but full and friendly. I would like to return on a quieter day. I loved the museum design and height of exhibit halls. The Japanese art collection is the most impressive in the world.

An absolute marvel of ancient history covering different cultures dating back to 200 BC with so many unique and rare artifacts on display. Looking at those artifacts recovered from Giza tomb brings a different perspective to history and how the civilization used to trive back then. Truly majestic and I would highly recommend. Asian artifacts enclosure was great too. So many exquisite paintings at display which would leave you in awe. Oh yes, did I mention a lovely concept they had going outside the museum main entrance where they have some tables setup, they give you some supplies, click your picture and you can use those supplies to decorate your pictures and get it framed. My Little ones enjoyed it a lot sitting under the shade. Parking can be a challenge and expensive too provided you reach early and find one. We parked in one of the garage and museum was walkable from there. If you are in Boston then this museum is a must see. Cheers!!

Definitely worth a visit. I would highly recommend doing an hour long tour which runs throughout the day and it’s included with your admission ticket. The museum is nicely laid out in an organized fashion. There are several dining options. I was happy that there is a casual cafeteria with very reasonable priced foods. The museumwas easily accessible by train, which dropped me off right in front of the museum.

Fenway Park is a historic and intimate ballpark located in Boston, known as the home of the Red Sox and a venue for big-name concerts. It holds a significant place in Boston's built environment, alongside landmarks like Faneuil Hall and the Freedom Trail. The stadium offers behind-the-scenes tours during the off-season and hosts a popular summer concert series.
Fenway is a iconic and historic ballpark. This was such an amazing experience. Saw the Red Sox vs. Houston Argos game (2-1 home win for Red Sox) and had a wonderful time. The atmosphere and energy from the crowd was amazing and the lighteffects after the win were super cool. Food and beverages were okay priced, not too expensive in my opinion. Great experience being there!

This is the best tour I’ve been on in a long time! The street and local atmosphere is something out of a movie, and the tour is very affordable and informative. The guide was fantastic, telling fun stories of his life in Boston and his 10 years working at the field. We saw everything from the original seats to the press box, the green monster, and the special VIP museum that holds World Series balls, bats, uniforms and memorabilia from over the decades. I would recommend this tour to anyone I know, especially baseball lovers. So worth the time and money!
Ashley F — Google review
Thanks to Kevin and Zach (apologise if I spelled them wrong) The tour was amazing! They provided clear and touchable introduction about Fenway Park, the immortal and irreplaceable history of Boston Red Sox, including each detail on and off the court, and what did here happened somethings that were truly iconic, and more little adorable sides of the park, such as Fenway Farm! I was impressed by every step I took without a doubt! It was worthy to take a tour here although there's no baseball matches now. Glad to be here to calmly know everything about Fenway!
Rita L — Google review
We took a guided tour of the Fenway stadium. Booked just about 45mins before the tour from the kiosk at the Gate D entrance on the Jersey street. Great experience. The tour guide, Abby (if I remember correctly), was great - very informed as well as great style of presenting facts. With very long history and so many interesting things happened with the Red Sox, the tour was definitely worth it. We don’t watch baseball and have only elementary knowledge of rules but it was still very much easy to understand. Definitely to be done if you’re in Boston.

This was my first time visiting Fenway Park, and even though my team wasn’t playing, I knew I couldn’t come to Boston without checking it out. I’m so glad I did, the energy inside the stadium was incredible! From the moment I walked in, I felt the history and passion that make Fenway such a special place for baseball fans. The crowd was electric, and what really stood out was the sense of community. The entire stadium came together, singing songs, cheering, and living and breathing every moment of the game. I felt completely swept up in the excitement. We just so happened to be there for the game the Red Sox clinched their spot in the playoffs with a walk-off win! The stadium absolutely erupted. I’ve never felt that kind of excitement at a ball game before. You didn’t have to be a Red Sox fan to appreciate the moment. Being there for that walk-off and watching the team celebrate was something I’ll never forget. Fenway isn’t just a place to watch baseball it’s a place to feel it. The atmosphere, the history, the energy it all makes for an incredible experience.

Fenway Park is one of the Mecca's of MLB that every baseball fan needs to visit in person. It was great attending a Boston Red Sox game in the one of the oldest baseball parks in America. The food was good and at a decent price, but it was the surrounding bars and restaurants around the park that made it a great overall baseball and sporting experience!
Josh B — Google review
Being a Cub fan from Chicago, home to the most iconic stadium in all of sport, I must say that I continue to be impressed with the condition of Fenway Park. It's no Wrigley Field, and it being a few years older, doesn't make it "grander", but it's a fun place to see a game. The fans are pretty great, and supportive of their team, but the place emptied out long before the game was over because the Sox were getting their butts kicked. You don't ever see that at Wrigley... no matter what the score. I was in Yankee Stadium in this trip out East too, and I continued to be unimpressed with that ballpark.
Larry B — Google review
Came out from California, San Francisco Giants fan. Got a real good look at this beautiful ballpark. I think what makes it special is the foul lines. Makes it look like an old ballpark I used to play in when I was 12 years old. Just kidding. But it does make it look really authentic when you're young playing baseball. We had a great time with the guide. He was very knowledgeable. And he was from California. I would strongly suggest this place if you are a baseball fan. The tour is great.

Canobie Lake Park is a sprawling amusement park that offers a wide range of attractions suitable for the entire family. From thrilling roller coasters to exciting water rides and entertaining shows, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Visitors can also indulge in delicious food and partake in fun games throughout the park. While some guests experienced long lines, others found value in purchasing express passes to make the most of their visit.
What a surprise! Many in the family recalled visiting the park during middle and high school. After quite a few years, we decided to spend our day there with our two kids and other family members. We arrived early, so parking was not an issue. We were immediately impressed by how well maintained and organized the park is. We arrived at 10am and most rides opened at 10.30am. Plenty of options for all ages. Several small arcades along the way where you can enjoy some shade. The cannonball ride is a must. We also went for a peaceful boat ride on the lake... good way to get some rest while enjoying the view. Definitely a good day!! Temperature in the low 70s, we did not spend time in the water park... but looked very nice too. Sunscreen recommended.

I haven’t been thinking to be like parking in years and it feels a little bit more modern than when I used to go back in the 90s. Plenty of bathrooms and it’s wheelchair accessible. If you need one, they rent one. There is food on the property and it is so so it’s your typical carnival amusement park food. The staff was super friendly even walking in through security what look like not metal detectors but scanners we had purchased our tickets online and walked in in 10 seconds the website was easy to use and we use the online map if you have young kids anywhere from the ages of 2 to 7 they have an endless amount of rides for them I was actually amazed because most amusement parks don’t focus on little kids too much. Canobie Lake Park. Does they have a great waterpark plenty of lifeguards around. I was a little sad that the train wasn’t running and the boats but everything else seem to be working fine. It appears they do sell alcohol on the property not just during Oktoberfest because there were signs that said no alcohol on this point to get on most rides, we waited no more than 10 minutes. There is plenty of parking in the parking lot and a ton of bus parking and handicap spots probably the longest ride we did was walking from the front entrance to our car, which was about a 8 to 10 minute walk. I do believe you can pay to get better parking spots. We went on a Friday and they were plenty of schools and organizations that we’re having trips. Everyone look like they were having fun. The bathrooms were super clean.
Abner B — Google review
Enjoyable park with water park. The park isn't too large and all the attractions are very close to each other making it very efficient to visit. Most of the riders are decent. There are good offerings for smaller kids but kids taller than 48" will have more fun. Depending on the ride, the waiting lines will advance in average every 5 minutes. To calculate your waiting time, check how many people fit per ride and guestimate how many people are waiting. One big negative for me is the average food quality that is really not great. The BBQ is likely your best shot. I hope this can improve.

Canobie Lake brings back so many nostalgic memories! We recently returned to Screemfest after years had gone by. It still has the same vibes, same rides, and same food. While some of our childhood favorites have disappeared, they have been quickly replaced with some new favorites. Untamed is by far the best ride in the park! The anticipation and excitement that followed made me want to ride it more. Other favorites include the Yankee Cannonball and the Pirate Ship. The lines aren't too long compared to other theme parks - the longest we waited was about 40 minutes for one of the haunted houses. Canobie does an awesome job with their Screemfest. The decorations and set-up were well done. My only complaint is that they shuffled the line through the houses too quickly - not much scares when you see what to expect directly in front of you. In my opinion, Carnivus was by far the best house out of the five. I absolutely love this park and will continue to visit for future generations. However, I need to let everyone know that the price is steep, and in line with more famous parks. $136 for two people seems outrageous, but I had a great time nonetheless.

We had an amazing time at Canobie Lake Park! I went with my fiancé and we absolutely loved it — especially the haunted houses! 👻 Everything was so well done and full of fun details. One thing that really caught my attention was the art piece “Helena,” it’s stunning and adds such a mysterious touch to the park’s atmosphere. The staff was friendly, the lines moved fast, and the whole experience was worth every minute. Totally recommend visiting during the Halloween season — it’s magical and spooky at the same time! 🎢🎃

Canobie Lake Park, awesome time for the family!! We spent the day, short lines on a Friday. And ALL of the fun rides and experiences we had as kids, that we can now share with our family!! Plenty of places to stay hydrated, food options are plenty in the park, but expect to pay park prices $$$ for food & drinks. A Steak & Cheese and a beer 🍺 for lunch hit the spot. Parking was free and park access was easy. Buy your tickets ahead of time, and an easy QR scan for entry. Staff was friendly and great with the whole group. Thanks Canobie Lake Park team.

We had a blast taking the kids to Canobie! It was just as much fun as I remember from when I was a kid. The food is a bit pricey (it is an amusement park) but there is a good variety, gluten free options, and allergy information available on the website. There are water fountains throughout the park so refilling a water bottle is no issue to stay hydrated! There are various gift shops and food vendors spread across the park so you are able to get snacks (and things like bandaids!) when you need them. There is also a decent amount of security officers so you can feel confident leaving a stroller at the end of a ride. There are lockers at the entrance of the park and you are also allowed to leave the park and come back (you just need to get your hand stamped) so you can securely lock items in your vehicle as well. While the park isn't huge, good shoes are a must! If you plan on visiting the water park, you will need appropriate swimwear. There are rides for all ages, but the options are the most limited for those under 36", but there are still rides available.
Julie S — Google review
I’ve been going to Canobie Lake Park for over 20 years, and it’s still one of my favorite places to visit. Every time I go, I notice how well they keep the grounds, everything is clean, beautiful, and inviting. They’ve been extending the theming around the rides too, which makes it feel more special. For example, the Wizard of Oz area has a rainbow of flowers planted, and there are shaped bushes around the Davinci ride, plus gorgeous floral displays all over the park. It really gives the feeling of a small Disney park. There’s so much to do here: a boat ride around the lake, sky ride, train ride, a big water park, and plenty of games. The shows are fun, the food options are good, and there are lots of clean bathrooms and shaded seating areas. Yes, the ticket price may seem a little high, but once you’re inside the experience is worth it. It’s a full day of fun for all ages, and the park just keeps getting better.

The Lizzie Borden House, located in Fall River, Massachusetts, is a unique bed and breakfast and museum that offers traditional rooms, free tours, and Wi-Fi. This historic house was the site of the infamous 1892 Borden ax murders and has been operating as a museum and bed and breakfast since 1996. Daily ninety-minute house tours are available for visitors to explore the scene of the unsolved double murder.
We had such an amazing time at the Lizzie Bordon House. We opted for the tour and the ghost hunt. The tour was really cool. Ashley was our tour guide and she was so amazing. Super knowledgeable, funny, and a great storyteller. She had our attentions captured from the beginning and kept it. We paid for the extra time for the interior and it was 100% worth it. We then did the ghost hunt which was the highlight of the night. It was my wife, myself and our 2 kids. The interior of the house was beautiful and stays true to the time period. The atmosphere was very exciting and fun while remaining mysterious and spooky when needed. Ashley was also the hunt guide and was VERY good at helping bring conversations going with spirits that wanted and maybe did not want to communicate. They provided EMF detectors, REM Pods, and these nifty bells that loved to be used by the house spirits. We were allowed to also bring in our own devices but oujii boards are not allowed. We would 100% do this again in the future and recommended it to ANYONE who is in the area or even driving through. We came from Texas to do it!

Me and my mom had a great time staying here at the Lizzie Borden house. Truly a fun way to experience history! Our tour guide (I forget her name, a shorter woman with purple-ish/red hair) was great and very informative. The mother and daughter who work there, Luisa and Tori, were amazing as well! So kind and personable. They made a wonderful breakfast and told us even more history about the house. Definitely creepy at night! If you’re a fan of dark history and spooky things I recommend, 10/10 😁 (Also the area is fun to walk. Beautiful neighborhoods and the Oak Grove cemetery is a 20 minute walk away and worth seeing!)

In my group of 3, we all had a wonderful experience. We had scheduled both the Oak Grove Cemetery tour and the Lizzie Borden House Tour with the Basement add on. We were very lucky in regards to having Nicole as a tour guide for both of the tours! We basically got private tours which allowed a more personal tour for each location. Nicole was very knowledgeable and incredibly personable. She was able to address ALL of our questions (Nicole knows lol). Nicole made our Fall River trip fun and educational! Would highly recommend.

This was an amazing experience. As a historical true crime nerd, a tour of the Lizzie Borden house has been a longtime goal of mine and it did not disappoint! Larry was a phenomenal, engaging, and knowledgeable story-teller. For me, respect for those involved in this event and understanding the facts of what transpired are most important and not so much the celebrity/gift shop type things that come with that celebrity. The staff at the Lizzie Borden home does a wonderful job of balancing this. It was incredibly eerie listening to the details of that day while in the same space. Will recommend to anyone with an interest in history, true crime, and of course, anything a bit chilling or spooky.

If I could rate higher than a 5 I would! We loved our guide Ashley, she was absolutely fantastic. Very knowledgeable, accommodating, and overall a very sweet person! The Morse room was clean and inviting upon arrival for our stay (Abby didn’t move an inch throughout the night, so that’s a plus lol). We highly recommend the house tour with the basement add on, the ghost hunt, and staying in the infamous Morse room! Thank you so much for a great experience!

My best friend and I stopped here for a tour on our way into Newport and we honestly had the best time! it ended up being a huge highlight of our trip and might’ve actually been the best thing we did during our entire weekend! We were absolutely obsessed with our tour guide Megan who really set the scene for us, went above and beyond, answered all of our questions, and made it so interesting. The story is so unique and we were transported back in time thanks to her captivating storytelling! It’s clear she loves her job and in turn, we loved the tour. Honestly, the entire trip, we kept jokingly saying “I miss Megan.” Anyway- do yourself a favor and stop here for a tour!! If you’re at all into ghost or true crime, you are going to be obsessed! We didn’t stay here and honestly, I don’t know that we would because we were a little scared lol but MEGAN WAS THE BEST AND WE LOVE HER!!!

Our tour of the Lizzie Borden House was absolutely incredible, and that’s all thanks to Karen! From the moment we started, she captured everyone’s attention with her storytelling, humor, and deep knowledge of the history behind the house. She has such a natural way of making the past come alive mixing eerie details with fascinating facts that kept us hooked from start to finish. Karen struck the perfect balance between spooky and informative, giving us chills one minute and laughs the next. You can tell she truly loves what she does and takes pride in giving her guests an experience they’ll never forget. If you’re planning a visit, do yourself a favor and book a tour with Karen. She’s amazing and made the whole experience one of the highlights of our trip!

Fun & Games
Gillette Stadium, home to the NFL's New England Patriots and the MLS's New England Revolution, is a massive coastal-themed venue that also hosts concerts. The stadium underwent a $225 million renovation, featuring upgrades like the country's largest video board and a 218-foot tower offering panoramic views of the stadium and eastern Massachusetts. Visitors can easily access nearby attractions such as Boston and Providence from hotels like Hampton Inn & Suites Foxborough-Mansfield.
Gillette Stadium is pure football heaven. The moment you walk up, you feel the history and the heartbeat of New England fans. Inside, the energy is unmatched—every seat feels like part of the action, and when the crowd roars, you feel it in your chest. The Pats–Panthers game this week was electric, the kind of atmosphere that reminds you why this place is called the home of champions. Yes, traffic and parking are what you’d expect at a massive stadium, but once you’re in, it’s all worth it. Great views, clean facilities, and a fan experience that makes you proud to be here. Foxborough is where memories get made. Go Pats! 🏈

This June, we were thrilled to visit here since we hadn’t been in for many years. Finally, we made it. We really enjoyed it so much - all of the entire Gillette Stadium area! We spent 5 hours walking around and also went to the Lighthouse for viewing Gillette Stadium, which was amazing to see from the top. The Lighthouse attendant was meh. Later, my friend, who hadn’t been here for years, came back here with me last week, and I gave her a tour. We went back to the Lighthouse, and I asked a question to the new (top) attendant, Dylan, but he admitted that he was new. He is a very nice guy, very helpful, humble, and led us to the views with his explanation. We were very impressed with him better than the first one. I just want to say that Dylan is the best Lighthouse (top) attendant! Applaud Dylan for his excellent job!

Go Pats! We visited from out of state. Great facility for football fans. The pro shop is well stocked, the museum is great and the view from the lighthouse is spectacular! The lighthouse cost $5 per person, well worth the expense. Unfortunately, our vacation dates didn't align with a home game...

Great place! Gillette Stadium is a great place to catch a game or concert. The views from the seats are solid, the sound system is powerful, and the crowd makes every event feel bigger than life. Whether it’s a Pats game or a show the atmosphere is great. Beyond the action, the stadium itself is well-kept and easy to navigate. The food options are solid, and Patriot Place next door has plenty of spots to eat or hang out before and after. One of the coolest features is the new lighthouse making the venue stand out in a way that feels unique in Ne. If you ever get the chance to go, it’s absolutely worth it.

One of the better NFL stadiums I've been to. Very fan friendly. The ramps are gradual inclines, and there are alot of them. Food is decently priced for stadium food and is pretty good! Didn't look like there was a bad seat in the house. Overall a great experience for this Steelers fan.

Gillette Stadium is a really nice venue modern, clean, and well-organized. The atmosphere is incredible, especially on game days or during concerts. The facilities are top-notch, with great seating, good visibility from almost every spot, and plenty of food and drink options. Parking and access are well managed, and the energy of the crowd makes every visit memorable. A great place for any major event!

Had so much fun! Awesome seats! Great fans! Great staff!! Sam Adams on tap! Definitely take time to hit Patriot Place before of after the game!

What a class act Patriot Nation is! I've been in the loge seats before and they were great, I've been in the Club seats before and they were outstanding, now I've been in the Luxury suites and there's nothing other than Heaven that could top it! Mr Kraft you are a serious class act! Thank you for the on field experience! The service and the food was second to none. If you ever get a chance to go to a Luxury suite you're a fool for not going! Patriots Nation to the end!

Minute Man National Historical Park

Sights & Landmarks
Minute Man National Historical Park, located along Route 2A near Concord Center, is a significant site in American history. It encompasses the route taken by the Redcoats during the Revolutionary War and features historical landmarks such as Old North Bridge and The Wayside. Visitors can explore the area where the first battle of the war took place and learn about Paul Revere's ride through reenactments on Patriots Day.
May is the perfect time to visit this place, when you will see the best of the spring in New England; and also get educated with American history along the way. Starting from the visitor center, you will be able to watch a video about the whole story; then get a map which tells you everywhere you can go and every parking lot it has. Aiming for a good spring-time hike, I enjoyed the farmland and North Bridge the most, but there are more things to see, such as the Orchard House (which offers you a nice guided tour with $15).
Wanyu H — Google review
Was disappointed to find the visitors center closed during the posted open hours. There were no rangers or anyone around. I'm sure that's due to governmental budget cuts and not the fault of park personnel. It's a beautiful park with incredibly preserved historical structures and plenty of informative signage. The trails are well-kept and there were lots of great birding opportunities and I saw turtles and frogs/froglets in the pond near the visitors center. I do plan on getting over here more since it's my local park.
Natalie K — Google review
Beautiful National Park with loads of American History. Walking paths galore, some shaded some without shade. Locals clearly enjoy the park for cycling and recreation. Two visitor centers, the main one has very limited hours, the North Bridge has more regular hours. Many rangers out throughout the park and available to answer questions and tell the history. Tours are also available for a fee. Park is also close to many other great historical spots in MA.
Elizabeth K — Google review
I learned so much more about American History! We only had one day to spend in the area. So we visited 3 sites: the North Bridge in Concord, the Minute Man National Historical Park in Lincoln, and the Lexington Battle Green in Lexington. We could have spent an entire week here visiting all of the Revolution sites as well as the literary sites from the Transcendentalist era, which I had no idea were so related! If you have time, rent a bike and follow the path of the British regulars as they were pushed back to Boston.
Karyn C — Google review
Very nice historical place, describing the beginnings of the American Revolution. I recommend the video at the visitor center and also walking the trail that connects the different building and places of interest. Concord is close by and worth visiting.

The Beginning of Independence! My daughter (13) and I visited the Minute Man National Historical Park on July 1, 2025. The Park Rangers were extremely knowledgeable and the park was in excellent condition. The Park marks the first "battle" of the Revolutionary War at Lexington & Concord. This is where things escalated to a point of no return between the British and the Colonists. Highly recommend visiting and taking in the very place that led to American Independence.
Jason W — Google review
We loved this non traditional visitor center. you have to walk a ways but there ia a nice path, no stairs to the building. The mocie ia unique and aboit 45 minutes. We thought it was very good. Check the official website for times, they are different than the posted ones in the parking lot. They closed at noon because they dont have air conditioning.
Kirsten B — Google review
An absolute MUST visit for EVERYONE who visits Massachusetts! This is where the Revolutionary War began! You are walking through History! You can just feel everything in the atmosphere! I could have spent all day here and still it wasn’t enough. Take your time, pay your respects to the events that happened here, go visit some of the museums. You will not be disappointed.

The Breakers is a grand summer home built by Cornelius Vanderbilt and his wife during the Gilded Age in Newport, Rhode Island. Designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt, this 70-room 'cottage' served as a showpiece for the Vanderbilts. The mansion boasts ornate artwork, gardens, and guided tours that showcase its overwhelming grandeur and fine decorative details. As a National Historic monument, it offers visitors an audio guide to explore its history and daily operations.
The Breakers is a jaw-dropping blend of Gilded Age opulence and ocean-spray drama, where every room feels like a scene change in a grand opera. The craftsmanship—marble, gilding, carved wood, and soaring ceilings—is so meticulous you find new details each time you look. The self-guided audio tour is outstanding: clear, engaging, and rich with stories that bring the Vanderbilt world to life. Strolling the grounds with the Atlantic as a backdrop adds a cinematic finish that photos never quite capture. If you visit Newport, this is the one landmark that absolutely earns the time, the ticket, and the superlatives.

The Breakers – A Dream for Gilded Age Fans For anyone who loves the Gilded Age or is fascinated by that era’s elegance and grandeur, The Breakers is an absolute must-see. The moment you walk through the gates, you feel like you’ve stepped straight into another world — one filled with history, beauty, and unapologetic luxury. Everything here is so well-organized: from the thoughtful visitor flow to the detailed explanations and perfectly preserved interiors. The house itself is simply magnificent — every room tells a story. The grand staircase takes your breath away, the ocean-view terrace is pure magic, and the bedrooms are both opulent and full of charm. And oh, the kitchen! It’s enormous, full of fascinating details, and somehow feels alive, as if it’s still ready to host a grand dinner for the Vanderbilt family. You can spend hours here, admiring the craftsmanship, imagining the parties, and feeling the spirit of the age. The views of the Atlantic are spectacular, and the whole place carries this wonderful mix of nostalgia and splendor. If you’re even a little curious about the Gilded Age, make sure to plan a visit — it’s an unforgettable experience that truly brings history to life.

Gorgeous mansion for visiting! We bought the tickets online before the visit, arrived late but they allowed us to get in anyway. Remember to download the app per the instructions posted there and bring your own headphones/earbuds so that you can listen to the descriptions and interesting stories as you step into each room. I was mesmerized by the decorative details. The place is perfect for visiting in the fall when the weather is cooler. You could sit in the back yard enjoying the vast sky and sea and grass field. It was a delightful experience!

Be sure you bring your headphones and get the Newport Mansions app so you can listen to the tour while you visit. This mansion is an awesome place to visit and learn some of the history of some of the Rockefeller family during the gilded age. The craftsmanship is spectacular and a bit over the top, but it really is an amazing place to witness. Highly recommend a visit!! As an added note, we visited during a day in port off the cruise ship. It's definitely an easy self guided excursion you can do, just a couple miles of the port. We saved a lot of money, saw multiple properties, did the tour on our own timeframe. It's an easy Uber ride or a nice walk to the property from the ship!

Very nice experience after watching the TV series Gilded Age. This maison should be the stage for the spring social season. The decoration is competitive to the royal palace even the size of building is much smaller. The architect is for sure trained in Beaux-arts as a general requirement at that period. The ceilings of many rooms are worth to study: they are clean, simple. The Roman Empire style decoration is perfectly adapted and applied here. One beautiful case for architecture students to learn the 20 century house design with European style.

Went on a Sunday at 9am, walked from the port from my cruise, really enjoyed the walk. The Breakers was beautiful in October. Nice cool breeze from the ocean outside. The Breakers showed a lot of rooms on display. The gift shop had a little bit for everyone with decent prices as well. Took me about two hours by myself to walk through the self guided audio tour, visit the shop, and walk around outside. I did not try the cafe. There was one restroom by the front ticketing area.

When you search for things to do in Newport, this is one of the things that always pops up. We are very glad that we were able to visit the Breakers, along with two other properties. The self-guided tour was very nice and we were able to enjoy the amazing views from inside and outside. If you are able to visit when you are in Newport, we highly recommend this place.

Nestled in 40 acres of woodlands, Roger Williams Park Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the country and a model for modern zoo design. The kid-friendly environment offers an opportunity to see over 100 species from around the world, including snow leopards, giraffes, elephants, zebras, red pandas, and more. Visitors can enjoy a petting zoo, wetlands trail, zipline adventure, and even take a ride on a vintage carousel.
Enjoy going here for the annual Jack-o-lantern Spectacular. The tickets for Spectacular are only available online. We visited during the dinosaur event they were having over the summer as well in addition to the zoo. Love this zoo and the variety of animals. The wild cats and penguins are some of my favorites.
Melissa D — Google review
Our recent trip to the Roger Williams Park Zoo was a perfect outing for our family, earning it a solid four out of five stars. My wife and I took our five-year-old daughter, and it was a joy to watch her excitement as we explored. The zoo is incredibly well-suited for families with young children and provides a day full of fun and discovery. For a five-year-old, the highlight was undoubtedly the farmyard area. She absolutely loved brushing the friendly goats and getting to see them up close. It was a wonderful hands-on experience that made her feel connected to the animals. The train ride was another big hit, giving us a playful way to see parts of the zoo while taking a short break from walking. We were also thrilled to see the giraffes towering over us and the elephants in their indoor enclosure. Seeing the golden lion tamarins and the beautiful blue hyacinth macaws in their habitats was also very special. The clear map at the entrance was a huge help, allowing us to easily navigate with our little one and ensure we saw all the animals on her list. The zoo's focus on conservation is a huge plus, and we felt great about supporting their mission. In short, Roger Williams Park Zoo is a fantastic destination for a family outing. It’s a place that creates lasting memories, and we highly recommend it. We can’t wait to go back again soon.

Highly recommended!! Truly incredible experience at the Pumpkin Spectacular! We booked tickets for 8 pm. Arrived with a fast moving line, which had no wait. Check in was a breeze and for a Saturday night it was packed but didn’t feel like so as the trails are wide enough to accommodate a crowd. The pumpkins are amazing to look at, especially the artist carved ones. One of the coolest and most do October bucket list items in New England! We parked above the zoo which was a 10 minute walk to the entrance as it was free. The lines to park were long and do create a wait. Parking is free or you can pay $15 for premium parking which the lot was quite empty for. Bathrooms are available and food trucks of fried dough, adult beverages, snacks etc. Definitely an awesome date night or a fun night out with the family

A great zoo for all age groups. There is so much to see that you can easily spend the day admiring the incredible collection of animals in a recreated microcosm of their native environment. Easy, leisurely, paved walking paths everyday along with signs and educational info on the various sights before you.

Came here for the Jack o Lantern walk, but I’ve been to the zoo proper before, albeit many years ago. Very cool attraction. It’s about a mile walk, takes about an hour to get through. Hundreds, if not thousands of pumpkins throughout. Some are very ornate. There’s some trivia related to the art on some of the pumpkins throughout as well. Great fun for all ages. This is the fourth year we’ve been and plan on returning for many years to come!

Quick trip to the zoo when we traveled through Rhode Island. Morning was a great time to go. Animals were out and it felt we had the park to ourselves with the little traffic that was there. Only downside is that they weren't fully owned but understandable since there wasn't a lot of people. We went on a Thursday morning.
Sheyenne D — Google review
We came for the Jack o lantern Spectacular and it was a great experience! So fun and beautiful art! We went on a busy Saturday night for the 9PM slot. There is free parking on the side streets or in the zoo parking lots. You can pay $15 for “vip parking” right in front of the event entrance. We parked at the back of the zoo lot and walked a little. It took us 15 min to get to the lot to park due to traffic. There are people directing you where to park in the lot. Once you’re inside, you can stroll as fast or slow as you want. We spent an hour inside. The trivia questions are fun. The answers are at the end of the path.

My wife and I went for the jack-o-lantern spectacular. This is an annual event held at the zoo in the evening. As always, it was absolutely amazing and outstanding. We both highly recommend it to anyone who wants to bring their children and or just themselves to see pumpkins car in the most artistic and fantastic way possible. There are over 5,000 pumpkins available to see, many of which are carved to be like Museum pieces of Art.

Mystic Aquarium is a popular interactive aquarium featuring a variety of marine life, including beluga whales, African penguins, sea lions, and sharks. The aquarium offers unique exhibits such as Steller sea lions and beluga whales that are rarely seen in other parts of the country. Visitors can also explore the Olde Mistick Village in Stonington for dining, shopping, and entertainment options.
It was a fantastic experience. It's a bit pricey, but when you consider the amount of animals they take care of, you get it. It was $82 just for my child and I to get in, to give you a perspective. I loved the Beluga whales, the seal show was adorable and the indoor gallery area was a fun experience. The keepers located throughout were very informative and gladly answered any and all questions. I highly recommend this aquarium.

Mystic Aquarium is an excellent spot for children, especially between the ages of 4 and early teens. The exhibits are engaging, and the attractions they do have are very well done. The sea lion show is free, fun, and worth planning around—just make sure to check the schedule ahead of time. Since it’s outdoors, you’ll also want to be mindful of the weather. While I was a little disappointed with the overall size of the aquarium, what’s here is high quality. Be prepared though—most extras cost money, so definitely bring your wallet. With more funding and awareness, this place has the potential to grow into an even larger attraction. Overall, it’s still a great family experience and well worth a visit.
Thomas E — Google review
Fantastic experience at the Mystic Aquarium. It is a lot smaller than I expected and the majority of the exhibitions are outdoors so thankfully, we choose the perfect sunny day to visit. Our highlights were seeing the Beluga whales swimming about outside and seeing the sea turtle inside. We also loved that they had a Del's Lemonade stand by the gift shop. A lovely little treat on our way out. Definitely a fantastic experience with the family. Now for my standard comments. Parking is plentiful out front and free. Location is well kept and clean. Very comfortable walking outside assuming the weather is good. Indoor exhibits never got too crazy, at least during the time that we were there.
Christine L — Google review
Where do I begin, this Aquarium is the best I've been to. The staff are all so friendly, and care so much about each and every animal in the facility. They have staff stationed at the enclosures in case you have any questions on a particular animal or exhibit, and they are so knowlegable. The Beluga whales are so cool, and almost seem like they interact with anyone who's at the glass and seeing everything they do for them is a bonus! The Main gallery has so many different tanks with all kinds of aquatic life and detailed plaques on each one, with any information you might want to know about a specific species. They even have not one.. but two touch tanks! This Aquarium is the perfect spot for a family day trip, the staff at the touch tanks were so friendly making sure any kid that wanted to participate was allowed the opportunity to do so and the layout was so cool to walk through. The pricing is extremely fair for what you get to do and see. The photo you they take when you enter of you and your family is 100% worth the 35 dollars to have it as a memento. Parking is a breeze and highway access is easy as well. I would give this aquarium 6 stars if I could, and my family and myself cannot wait to go back!
Jason J — Google review
I had the opportunity to visit this famous aquarium last Friday, and the pictures do not do it justice….it was an incredible experience! I saw the Beluga whales, along with so many fish and other animals, including a turtle. I learned lots about the Amazon rainforest, too. I also highly recommend going to the sea lion show; it was awesome! The show is included with your admission, so make sure you check the times so you don’t miss out. I recommend heading over to the show early so you get good seats. Not to mention that all of the staff were so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. You can tell how much they love their job, and they really go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a great experience! This aquarium is the best one I have been to by far and definitely a must do if you’re in the area! If only I could give it ten stars…..

Sad to say we feel like it wasn't what we were expecting. The tour of the whole place took us under an hour. And it was fifty one dollars per person. We do understand it's a research facility. But I think they should update their exhibits. And maybe offer a few more attractions without the extra cost. I had my first virtual reality experience, it was pretty cool. But it was at a $9 extra fee per person. The beluga whales are cool, and so are the african penguins. And the sea lion seals, but I feel like those are the only three real attractions that they had.
Royden G — Google review
Relatively small but nice aquarium. Easy to navigate and many different types of aquatic life to view. Great place for kid’s with a lot of interactive areas. Being a Monday, it was super easy to get in, around and out of.

This aquarium is so nice, not too big to navigate and the staff is really super friendly. I only gave 4 stars because we went during the start of the NorEaster last weekend and it was not enjoyable for my kids, unfortunately. I must add that the food at their cafe was very good - was impressed with the quality, actually. Better weather def would have made for a better experience, but a nice place to go with the fam for sure!

Mystic Seaport Museum is a reimagined waterfront settlement that offers a glimpse into America's maritime past. With over 60 historic structures and a recreated 19th-century village, visitors can step back in time and experience life in a shipping town from over a century ago. The museum features over a dozen ships from the 19th and 20th centuries, some of which can be boarded and explored.
We (2 adults) visited on a very hot day at the beginning of the summer. I absolutely loved the feel of walking around a replica of a 19th-century fishing village. There were so many storefronts to check out and the ships were beautiful, too. This is a gem of a place and we are fortunate to have it continuing to operate after nearly a century. There was an incredible exhibit in the gallery while we were there. I truly appreciated becoming more informed about the experience of African-Americans from a 21st-century perspective. It was hot enough that day that we unfortunately didn't get to explore as much as I wanted. This is definitely a place I would love to return to, perhaps on a fall weekend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A must-stop while visiting Mystic! I was completely surprised by how good this experience was. The museum is very kid-friendly and perfect for families. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes — it’s definitely a minimum 3-hour tour with so much to see and do. I highly recommend staying with the guides, as they make the history come alive and really enhance the experience. An unforgettable stop that I’ll be telling others about!

From the moment we walked inside to purchase our tickets to the time we left, Mystic Seaport Museum didn’t disappoint. The staff were very friendly! We toured most of what was offered. I think our favorite was the shipyard. It was incredibly interesting watching active restoration projects. The amount to view and experience was so much more than we realized. This was a wonderful stop for us on our New England road trip.

With something for everyone, Mystic Seaport Museum is a must-do vacation stop. One can see skill craftspersons in the process of restoring historic sea craft or recreating life in a seaside town in the early 1800s. Great for the whole family. Kids will especially love going on board the last wooden whaling ship the children's museum. Not into ships, history, or old architecture? Then visit in the spring and summer and see some of the most beautiful floral arrangements Ive seen in a long time.

What a great experience for the whole family! Lots to learn! You can see ships being refurbished. And you can go onto Schooners! The historic buildings are amazing! Teaches you all about Ship Life! Places to eat and also a great gift shop!

We had an incredible day with family at Mystic Seaport Museum and honestly did almost everything there was to do. The whole place is such a vibe, full of history, craftsmanship, and surprises around every corner. One of the highlights was catching the fireboat with its hoses on full blast—something we learned doesn’t happen very often. We watched the blacksmith at work, explored the cooperage, wandered through the historic ships, and soaked in the magic of this living museum by the water. We spent way more time there than planned and still didn’t see it all. Mystic Seaport is truly one of those places that keeps you discovering more at every turn.

Really nice museum with outdoor and indoor exhibits. We paid $44/adult and $22/youth. We had an amazing time. The museum was nice, not too crowded and with nice live explanations when needed. Learning was also pleasant. Easy with kids. The outdoor area was pet friendly except inside the boats.

Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam, Connecticut is a fascinating attraction that preserves the former estate of actor and playwright William Hooker Gillette. The stone mansion, resembling a medieval fortress, boasts unique features like built-in sofas and a moving table on tracks. Inspired by his love for the Connecticut River, Gillette began constructing the castle in 1914, completing it in 1919. Situated 200 feet above sea level, the castle offers breathtaking views of the river valley.
Very beautiful spot to sit and enjoy. Gives you a tropical castle feel in the summer with how the trees grow in, amazing view of the river with a short walk. Looks like there is hiking trails all over which is nice as well, building has restrooms even when it is closed (use front door) Motorcycle Friendly & Motorcycle Parking Available which is a huge bonus. Riders destination. Hiker or picnic day out anyone can enjoy!

A beautifully laid out & well maintained state park, the Gillette Castle - aka: "The Seven Sisters Estate" (named after it being on the most southern set of chain hills it sits on) has so much detail in the stone & wood work! At the visitor center, there are trail maps, bathrooms, vending machines & a museum type atmosphere re; the history of the park / Castle. There are also two restored 1/4 scale narrow-guage railroad engines (one electric & one steam) that William Gillette navigated 3 miles of track on his 122 acre property. Also here at the visitor center, there is a wrap around deck with outstanding views of the Connecticut river with lots of picnic tables. Its a very enjoyable day trip!

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - fabulous park! The CASTLE TOURS are seasonal so check before you go if you want to go inside. The website has information. We were there when the tours were only on weekends. But you can still enjoy the exterior out the castle, and the views, trails, restroom, picnic tables. The area is gorgeous and beautiful walks. So glad we checked it out and we met some wonderful people while we were there. You can watch the ferry cross.

Very cool place to check out. You can take a tour of the inside now, a few years ago we were here and unable to go inside due to I believe it was renovation from what I remember. Glad to have been able to go inside, a lot of cool stuff inside, lot of interesting history, and just the architecture is amazing. There's also a trail you can hike if you like, unfortunately we didn't have time for that and the weather wasn't very dry for us to consider doing it during our short time in the area.

it's truly a hidden gem! Located within a beautiful state park, the castle offers scenic hiking trails and stunning views. The architecture and history of the castle make it a must-see destination. Tip: Be sure to purchase and print your tickets ahead of time for your preferred time slot. We didn’t have access to a printer and ended up waiting about an hour before we could enter. Thankfully, we used that time to explore the grounds and enjoy a relaxing hike through the park.
Gene L — Google review
Such a hidden gem. Wasn't busy as the castle itself is closed for the winter. But the grounds were so neat, pretty, well cared for. Great views of the river.

Tremendous tip from my chiropractor to visit this incredibly unique castle completed in 1919. The stony exterior defies description, you must see this for yourself. Loyal staffers give detailed stories to help understand the architectural and engineering wonders of William Gillette, the building’s visionary and owner, actor, and the author who brought Sherlock Holmes to life, a character he personified. He designed and had built 47 unique wooden doors with each lock differing. He had installed secret passageways, mirrors to observe his guests unseen, edifices for his large menagerie of cats, and fascinating use of flooring materials used on walls to soundproof the entire steel-reinforced structure. Innovative and way ahead of his time, features such as radiated heat (including a heated bed), and electricity using wooden switches! Check out the world class art gallery, prized artwork hand picked by Gillette to support the up and coming artists of his day. Enjoy the grounds as well, see where his private Underground Railroad was hosed, and catch a play in the outdoor theater. Warning: steps and stairs are not for the feint of heart. Also, no visible public restroom at the castle; you have to go to the visitor’s building which has a modest gift shop. Ample parking lot by visitor’s building. Bring your walking shoes and add a trail to your itinerary.

Lovely drive to the park. Tickets are in 15-minute increments. We were a party of 3 and the next available time was 45 minutes away. Perfect amount of time to watch the movie about Mr Gillette and look through the artifacts. Concession stand is closed, pack snacks or a picnic lunch. Tour is well organized and they keep people moving but not hurried. I grew up in Connecticut but had never been to the house. It was a great day trip!

Lake Compounce Amusement & Water Park

Temporarily Closed
Theme park
Water & Amusement Parks
Family-friendly theme park featuring roller coasters & other rides, plus a water park.
It had been nearly 20 years since my last visit to Lake Compounce, and this trip brought back all the memories with a modern twist. It was my husband TJ’s first time, and we had a blast walking around, hopping on rides, and grabbing cute photo ops throughout the park. The nostalgia is real—but they've done an incredible job updating the space while keeping its charm. The crowd was super manageable the day we went (pro tip: check the event calendar if you want a more chill experience). We even got to visit with our family while there, which made it extra special. We have season passes now and can’t wait to go back for more fun! Whether you’re bringing the kids, reliving childhood memories, or just looking for a classic amusement park day with lots of heart—Lake Compounce delivers.

This is a good spot to spend a day in the summer - the park is a very manageable size to walk around and they have a handful of good attractions. Boulder dash is by far the most impressive coaster! If you have a season pass you bought online that you need to redeem for a physical card, or if you want to redeem a bring a buddy ticket, be prepared to wait 30-60 minutes at guest services. The line moved incredibly slow and was by far the longest line we waited in all day. The other big negative was what a huge rip off the dole whip is at the Main Gate Creamery - the “Large cup” is $9, we received the smallest cups of dole whip plopped into a tiny saucer. The employee working there also seemed like he had better things to do than serve 2 cups of dole whip. The employees at the parking area, guest services, and the rides, were all wonderful and very welcoming/inviting. The park was very clean and the Main Street area was very bright and vibrant. They added wait time signs at the entrance of each ride which is a nice touch and gives you an idea of how long you’ll wait in line so you can plan accordingly. It is the oldest theme park in America, but it has a nice charm to it and they’ve done an incredible job maintaining the park throughout the years. Parking is easy and they have a huge lot very close to the park - less than 5 minutes from the exit to our car.

Wow, this place is amazing, Six Flags just lost a season pass holder, my family and I plan to come here going forward. Everything was just better, less chaotic and cheaper(way!) We just took the little one this trip, plenty of rides for her, the adult rides looked awesome, we'll be back to ride those, no doubt. The food offerings seemed adequate and plenty of choices. We did not eat this time, not because we didn't like anything, we just arrived after a late breakfast, skipped lunch and had dinner off park. The water park, oh my goodness, included with admission, totally worth that price alone. It was so hot, this was a HUGE relief! All in all, this place is perfect for my family and over the next few Summers we're going to get more aquatinted for sure! This IS a 5 Star Amusement Park!

Got done with lake compounce, was a fun outing with me and one of my partners. Overall we give the park a B. The employees provide great Customer service, friendly & engaging. Food was standard fare but there were options that were cost effective as well as Some interesting seasonal options. That said the parking directions ended up having us circling needlessly, and the road needs to be finished paved ASAP. If possible they really need to invest in more signage in the area. The other major detriment was the yellow jackets. They were everywhere in particular any drinking fountain or seated area. It was challenging to avoid especially when eating. We came for the haunted houses and reviewed them in the photos. Overall the rides were enjoyable though some showed notable wear and tear. In one of the game bakers stands the plushies were noticibly moldy which was concerning (though the employee said those ones are not given to guests "Display only")

I haven’t been to Lake Compounce in years! From the parking attendants to the maintenance person every staff person was very friendly and helpful. It was a beautiful day and I advise purchasing as much as you can online. It definitely helped. *The refillable cups are definitely worth every penny! Oh and the water park…Crocodile Cove is so much fun!

We chose a nice weather day, it wasn't too hot, so it was ideal for all the walking. Some lines were very long and needless to say, the water park area was very crowded. We got there a little after 11a and it took us about 15 minutes to get to the line to pay to get into the park, so pack your patience. And if you haven't been there in a while, please purchase your tickets on line, it's a lot more convenient. And they are cashless. But overall, the kiddos had a great time at the water park.

Took my 4 year old and 20 month daughters! They had a great time at the water park and also on the rides. Visited on a Monday so it didn’t feel crowded, water park was clean and lifeguards were doing a magnificent job! Food was also very good! Definitely coming back!

Oh my gosh,I had the best time in the world here!!felt like a kid again, clean surroundings, water rides, helps cool you down when you get hot, there's a huge variety of games ,rides and even beach!!Plenty of spaces to sit and take a break under the shade or under a canopy, umbrella or sun...whatever you wish for. Free unlimited iced water and varieties of fountain sodas. The bathrooms are very clean and the staff friendly and responsive. We were 3 adults and 2 kids(8 &5) + all day parking =$207 total $36/person, 27 for parking. We brought our own pizza ,refreshments and snacks so we didn't have to spend more than we already had to enter. I actually think we adults had as much fun or more fun than the kids, lol. We got there right after they opened at 11.30am,left at 8.15pm and we still hadn't gone on all the rides!we have to go back!we had the time of our lives and I highly recommend this place to all families, groups and couples, there's something for everyone and all ages. What a day!!

The Yale University Art Gallery is a museum that exhibits art from different regions and time periods, housed in the notable Louis I. Kahn building among others. The gallery offers an impressive display of artwork, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in various genres and styles. On weekends, finding parking is manageable, and the staff is welcoming and helpful. Lockers are also available for storing personal belongings while exploring the exhibits.
This is a great place to visit. They have a vast collection of beautiful pieces. It’s definitely a place you could spend hours looking around. We did the whole place with moderate pace in just under two hours. Overall if you want to see beautiful art or kill some time in the air conditioning this is a great place to visit.

A true gem in the heart of New Haven. The Yale University Art Gallery offers an impressive collection that feels both world-class and deeply accessible. The range is astounding—European masters, ancient artifacts, African art, modern American works—all beautifully curated. The architecture itself is worth the visit, blending historic charm with clean, contemporary lines that let the art breathe. What makes it even more remarkable? Admission is free. You can wander for hours without feeling rushed, discovering both iconic pieces and lesser-known works that surprise you. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between scholarly and welcoming, making it a joy whether you’re an art historian or just casually exploring.

Amazing art museum in New Haven, CT. Beautiful old building melded with a modern addition. 4+ floors of art, from ancient artifacts and sculptures to modern and contemporary pieces. And it's free to enter! Everyone working there were pleasant and informative.

This place is a must-visit. I love the rich history of the building itself it adds so much character to the experience. The collection they have is incredible! Lots to look at and read about. I ended up getting a bit lost in the building which just adds to the adventure! A wonderful place to walk around and feel inspired!

Amazing, amazing museum. I was totally in awe with the extensive collection particularly of modern art and Asian art. It speaks volumes of Yale’s education that showing students the original works of art was important. I was also impressed that many of the alumni donated their famous paintings rather than selling them at auction, a testament to the intellect of Yale alumni. Finally, the art work is so beautifully, impeccably displayed - hats off to the curators. This is the crown jewel of the University!!! A must visit for art lovers

A great gallery and museum that covers a variety of art collections from various periods of human history. The information notes are insightful and add depth to the experience. I ‘d recommend a whole day if one prefers to immense oneself in learning of the art and histories, but half day will also do for a quick walkthrough. Can’t believe that it is free and my respect goes to the beneficiaries. And I found my favorite sentence about art in this gallery. “Art is man’s distinctly human way of fighting death.”

If you visit it without kids, it's one of the best art museums. But, If you visit with your kids, it's one of the worst. Like every art museum, the experience depends on how you visit. Obviously, it's not a family-friendly museum (for families with kids). The collection is surprisingly vast, with everything from ancient artifacts to modern masterpieces. The space is beautifully designed, and best of all, admission is free. It's a must-visit spot in New Haven for art lovers or anyone looking for inspiration.

It’s a truly wonderful art museum with an incredibly rich collection. I really enjoyed it — from classical to modern, you can find works by almost every painter, sculptor, and installation artist you can think of. While I was exploring the exhibits, I noticed a large parade happening on the street outside… It was massive, and it took more than an hour just to pass by the entrance.

Nestled in the heart of Prince Edward County, Sandbanks Provincial Park is a stunning recreational oceanfront destination renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty. Home to the largest sand dune system in the world and a picturesque freshwater sandbar, this park offers an array of outdoor activities from April to October. With over 600 campsites available—ranging from fully equipped sites with electricity to more secluded walk-in options—there's something for everyone looking to immerse themselves in nature.
Sandbanks is an absolute gem and easily one of the most stunning beaches in Ontario. The sand is soft and clean, the water is clear and refreshing, and the shoreline seems to stretch forever. It’s the perfect spot whether you want to swim, sunbathe, or just take a relaxing walk along the beach. The dunes are gorgeous and make for great photo opportunities, and there’s plenty of space so it never feels overly cramped, even on busier days. The shallow, gentle waters make it ideal for families, while the wide open views are pure bliss for anyone looking to unwind.

The outlets beach is the most popular, with it's expansive, two-kilometre-long shoreline, soft, white sand and rolling waves, thousands flock here each summer. 750,000 of them, in fact. A day-use-only beach, you're required to book your visit in advance to guarantee entry, but it's worth it. There's a restaurant on site and many washrooms and changing rooms nearby. Plenty of parking but get there early for a good spot.

Sandbanks Provincial Park is an amazing spot for a picnic, a relaxing day at the beach, and swimming. The beach is entirely sandy with no rocks, making it ideal and comfortable for swimming. To enter the park, you’ll need to reserve or register in advance. The park is well-equipped with change rooms, bathrooms, and plenty of parking. There’s also lots of space to sit and relax near the water, whether you’re sunbathing, snacking, or just taking in the view. A perfect getaway for a summer day!

So beautiful. The camp sites are nice. Happy to hear the comfort station is getting an upgrade. Though I’ll doubt they will change the footprint, more stalls are needed. The bathroom is always busy with its proximity to the beach and all the camp sites. The sunsets are gorgeous. We always have a wonderful time here. Highly recommend!

A stunning provincial park. The park itself is quite big. They have two park stores, a few trails and lots of beach space. We only stayed for a day but the campsites looked nice as well. Lots of friendly staff and endless beaches to explore.

Had a beautiful day at Sandbanks today. Made some great memories with family. Playing in the sand and in the water. The water was fantastic! Loads of parking and space on the beach. Highly recommend it if you haven't been.

This was a wow experience, Desert in Ontario and I really mean it, miles of desert around, I went early morning like 9.30 AM, ensure to reserve a day pass from Canada Parks website, the beaches have basic facilities- clean washroom and changing rooms, lot of benches etc, and parking is near to the beaches.

Today was a wonderful day at the Dunes Beach!! Blue sky, clear water, not too busy for a summer Friday, and a positively awesome experience. We have been to Outleat and Lakeshore Beaches in previous years, and even then, this park does not disappoint! Waves can be fun, but wind gusts were only up to 15km/h instead of 40km/h, which made it suitable for paddleboarding on the water. It's about 500 meters from Dunes Trail parking to the shore. However, paddling on the shore is much easier for finding beach space than treading on the deep, hot sand anyway! The beach is so nice and clean despite all the negative fishy news circulating on social media. Be ready for sand, lots of it! We are planning for more trips this summer!
