Great shop to reconnect with nature in a busy city! Trails are well maintained and there is a level system from very easy walking paths to uphill treks. There are benches, and sitting around throughout the place. A huge fire pit and post at different sites& spots that tell you about the history of the place! Would recommend!

Beautiful historic wilderness setting in Lewiston, Maine. Free admission, though you can contribute to the local birding club to help maintain the 450 acre woodlands and meadows.

Thorncrag is a gorgeous trail system with some really cool monuments and memorial sites that celebrate it's founders. It's a fairly easy hike, the trails are well marked and tidy, and it contains a diverse ecosystem that was so much fun to explore. It was surprising to find such a cool / fun trail in Lewiston. Will definitely be going back!

I experience around Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary has been Great. Thorncrag is one of my favorite places to visit. I visit once a year know matter what Because I had a friend that had died here more then 20 years ago, he was hung, by him self or others, the case was closed and called suicide. Anyway know that the bad news is out the way. Nothing bad has happened since the passing of (Carol Jean Neme), the trails are very safe and they are used everyday. You are going to find so many cool things on the trail system. Take and Hour or take a day. Everything you need, food , water, road access is less then a mile away from Thorncrag. Perfect place for a bird watch, Great place to paint a picture, Go for a Walk, Bike ,Hike, Backpack. How ever you enjoy the trail. Please don't Destroy are Sanctuary, please do carry and trash out and don't hurt or feed the animals. Have a great Time. I'll send photos sometime. Oh yeah and this place is free. There is not tickets....

Fabulous walking trails for the mild-moderate walker. Always a magical, therapeutic forest adventure. There are some cool structures along the yellow trail for the kids to happen upon, or the walking children's story along the white trail. If you just want to enjoy the heart of the forest go red-orange-yellow! Watch out for ticks in the big field-- there is a sign to warn you & it's no joke.
Allison N — Google review
Nice little walking trail with hills. Seen 4 deer and 4 turkey's on my quick visit here. There are benches at different intervals throughout. This trail is also the highest point in Lewiston.
Eric B — Google review
A truly beautiful area, this centennial being the highest point in Lewiston makes it a good hiking playground of easy to moderate difficulty depending on your pace. You will see a range of trails, fields, rock formations, babbling brooks and hilltops with views.
Christopher P — Google review
A lovely place for hiking that's moderately inclined and has wide pathways that easily accommodate for multiple hikers, it's easy to pass hikers coming from the opposite direction without having to stand off to the side. There are numerous interconnected trails that are well marked, easy to navigate, and well kept. There were only a few areas that got a little squishy from the rain, but nothing that wasn't easily avoidable. It's a nice and quiet area with benches throughout for resting and plenty of beautiful sights to capture on camera. I also appreciate that dogs aren't allowed into the sanctuary as oftentimes it makes it harder to pass other people and can make it less tranquil. It also prevents the birds from getting disturbed. Overall, it's a great place to hike that's a step up from easy, flat trails and offers plenty for sightseeing and exploring.

Lovely theater and not too large so there really aren't bad seats. Also, in the Orchestra section is stadium seating so you can see very well. They also have a shuttle that takes you right to the theater.

Great performers, fun shows! My wife and I have had a subscription (4 shows each summer) for several years. Inevitably we like some more than others but we are never disappointed.

Popham Beach State Park

Outdoor Activities
Popham Beach State Park is a rare geological wonder in Maine, featuring a long stretch of sandy beach bordered by the Kennebec and Morse rivers. Visitors can enjoy sunbathing with views of Fox and Wood islands, and even walk to Fox Island during low tide. The park's 529 acres offer ample space for activities like swimming and surfing in the rolling Atlantic waves.
Lovely beach, I have been coming here with my family in the summer since before I could walk and although the beach has changed due to the river and the many storms, it's still a family favorite. I went recently with my family this summer on August 16th. The water was so warm and delightful. I would say it's a very family friendly beach and an overall friendly beach, although you need to watch out for seagulls, they are extremely ruthless at this beach. I had a great time and found lots of cool marine creatures as pictured, a crab and even part of a jellyfish.
Bea M — Google review
Great beach and great Ranger service members. Low cost to enter/park. Actually parking lot that is not all broken like much of maine. Clean beach with soft sand. Good wash/restroom facilities. Good times
Drive S — Google review
Nice beach. Soft sand and lots of space. The cost was a bit much since they charged us per person, instead of per car. So for 3 adults and 4 kids it was 29 bucks. I guess you get charged more if you have guests from out of town. However, after paying the fee we found out the bath houses weren't working. Not fun coming home with sand everywhere. 😕
D L — Google review
The beach is beautiful and huge during low tide. You can walk across the sandbar to Fox Island. If you go right at the entrance to the beach, you can cross the Morse River and access Seawall Beach and skip the 2mi hike (just make sure to get back in time before the tide changes).
Peter N — Google review
Very large expansive beach. Kind of a bit out-of-the-way for any town so you better have all beach gear and water you may need. There are bathroom, facilities, showers and clean water. Don’t be lazy go down the beach a bit to spread out and get a bit more privacy. Very interesting beach and very cold water.
Peter B — Google review
This is a beautiful spot to spend the day with your family! During low tide you can let your kids safely swim and find seashells and sand dollars. As a local if you plan to come in the summer months go early in the day as it gets packed.
Samantha M — Google review
Fantastic sandy beach. If you go at low tide, you can walk out into the ocean. Lovely views. There has been quite a bit of erosion- climate change in action.
Christine G — Google review
Had a great visit to the park. Beach and facilities were very clean. We got there around 10:30am and easily found parking. Beach was very family friendly...it had tide pools at low tode which were great for our little one to splash around it. Would definitely recommend and plan to return. They did accept credit card payment for entrance fees. Note: Since this is a state park, it is not dog friendly in summer months.

Maine Maritime Museum

Museums
The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath offers a captivating experience for visitors of all ages, with 10 acres of galleries and 25 acres of waterfront. The museum preserves the area's rich shipbuilding tradition through hands-on exhibits, paintings, and models that span 400 years of seafaring history. Visitors can explore a working wooden-boat shipyard and learn about maritime artifacts dating back over four centuries. The museum also offers educational programs, lighthouse tours, and nature tours.
Took a cruise to view the Kennebec River lights, Fort Popham, Sequin Light, and all the water in-between. Lovely trip; friendly, knowledgeable crew. Toured the museum grounds before the cruise, which are well worth visiting of themselves. Will be returning.
Sharon L — Google review
This place was very neat! We stopped here on out way up the coast of Maine. They offer many different boat tours of the river too. We did the lighthouse sites one and were able to see 6 lighthouses on a 2 hour tour. It was beautiful. While out on the water we got to see some bald eagles, a bald eagle nest, some seals and or course many other forms or wild life. It was well worth the cost, and it really wasn't even exspensive! It also got us free entrance into the museum too. When we return to ME, we plan to stop here again!
Sabrena — Google review
Very nice with knowledgeable guides. We bought the full package; museum tour, trolley ride and boat ride. Facilities are nice, staff friendly and seeing the warships was great. The tour of Bath and the town's ship building history was okay. The river tour was not special but the guide had entertaining stories. I went to see the ships which are an impressive feat of manufacturing. These are war machines. Five ships in process in Oct 2025. Cool. So why not five stars? Can't get into the facility, can't get close to the ships. Yes, I understand it's a real factory. Safety, efficiency and secrecy are the priorities. Got it. The view from the river was good, and the narration was strong. I recommend it. But it won't get five stars until you get inside.
Jim O — Google review
We are museum lovers and had a great time visiting this museum. It was very kid friendly, surprisingly so for a museum not explicitly created for kids. It was also super interesting and felt worth the entry price. If we are ever back in Maine we will have to check it out again!
Rebekah H — Google review
Such a cool museum. The campus is expansive and covers info on ship building. I really liked the buildings to the west with the blacksmith and boat builders working. The Wyoming monument is also incredible!
Jack V — Google review
Excellent. I recommend anyone who has any sense of history visit this exhibition. Also the boat tour is really worth the money. Well run organization! Highly recommend
DOC S — Google review
Great museum. Continuous and term displays are well done, interesting, easy to consume. Loved the "Up T' Camp" display. The Bath Iron Works video is OK. Just makes 5 stars.
J F — Google review
This was a cool place to see. Unfortunately tbey close the outdoor displays at 4 and we got there too late to see them. The main building still had some good exhibits but make sure you get there well before 4 to see the whole thing. Going in the off season was nice as the tickets were very affordable.

The Maine State Museum offers a captivating journey through the state's cultural and natural history. Established in 1836, it has faced several closures before reopening for good in 1971 with state funding to ensure its continued operation. The museum features exhibits on Maine's history and wildlife, with regularly changing displays on the third floor. Visitors can also explore the nearby State House for more animal dioramas.
This museum is centered all around Maine people and history there. Several rooms filled with items that highlight Maine in the past. We loved it there. Undergoing renovations now, I can't wait to see it again when the time comes to reopen. Hopefully, it will be soon!
Theresa J — Google review
It is definitely the best value for the money of any museum I've ever been to. So many great exhibits to browse through. Fun for all age groups and interests. Multiple floors but easy to maneuver and get around. Nice little gift shop attached to it and very friendly staff throughout making it a wonderful overall experience.
Robert B — Google review
Love this museum. I hope it reopens soon. Came here as a child with my grandmother and have returned many times as an adult. It's one of my favorite rainy day outings for a change of pace. I particularly enjoy the First Nations artifacts and stone tools. This is a great place for adults and kids. Large free parking lot. You can skip down the road to Hallowell for a selection of great restaurants and shops to complete the trip.
Venture C — Google review
Went here on a goof because we had several hours to kill before an event and it was only $3 - all I can say is WOW!!!!!! This museum is fabulous!!!!! 4 floors of amazing displays, exhibits, hands on fun, history! Lots of great photo ops too. You MUST go, bring the kids, and allow yourself lots of time to see everything.
Miss C — Google review
I have lots of memories of coming here as a kid and enjoy bringing my own kids a few times a year. The museum has lots of great exhibits about the history and animals of Maine. The third floor houses exhibits that change regularly. From the museum you can also walk over to the State House which is beautiful inside and has a few more dioramas that feature animals from Maine.

Gardens
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is a stunning 250-acre waterside destination featuring meticulously maintained gardens, including rose and meditation gardens, as well as natural landscapes and trails. What started as a small conservatory has blossomed into a sprawling 100+ acre garden showcasing the rich diversity of New England's flora. Founded by passionate grandparents, the gardens boast awe-inspiring landscapes crafted by top landscape architects.
This place is huge so bring a good pair of hiking or walking shoes and water. We went almost 4.5 miles and didn't walk all the trails, just heads up. The breeze on The Landing is divine after hiking. Nice clean place. Trails were well maintained and there were places to stop and rest frequently. If you needed to head back and were too tired to walk there are places to sit and wait for a trolley (upwards of 20 min wait). Employees were polite and engaged with visitors often, very patient. It is a long hike and very steep and rough terrain in places. Some areas were fairly easy to get to in a walker or wheelchair and there were scooters for rent. Some areas were not accessible to walkers, wheelchairs, or scooters. Interesting and beautiful place, would go frequently if lived closer. Would have bought more gift shop items if they had sizes larger than XXL in the prints I was interested in. Prefer baggy clothing so not really their issue.
Aurumi — Google review
We had the most amazing day exploring these gardens in July. It was a very warm day and I was definitely sticky by the end of all of the hiking. The grounds were much more expansive than I expected they would be and we easily walked a few miles that day. The flowers were gorgeous and plentiful. We loved searching for the trolls and posing for pictures with them, too. The terrain is rough, rocky for sure in places, and I highly recommend sturdy shoes. There is a trolley that comes by periodically if you need a lift back (as we did), but it's probably 15 minutes between pick ups. The quality of the food at the cafeteria was better than I had dared to hope for. Usually zoos and other similar attractions offer frozen food product. This was fresh and delicious. Their menu rotates regularly, but I greatly enjoyed my curry chicken salad and salad. And the brownie was delicious and huge! The admission fee isn't cheap, but I feel it is well worth it for the experience and great care taken of the grounds. The entrance also has a gift shop with a lot of options for souvenirs to visit on your way out. I highly, highly recommend spending a few hours here. We were here about 3/ 3.5 hours including lunch and that was perfect.
Jackie A — Google review
I spent a wonderful afternoon at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and it was easily one of the most beautiful and well-maintained places I’ve visited in Maine. The gardens are vast and thoughtfully designed, with a perfect balance of natural beauty, art installations, and peaceful walking trails surrounded by flowers, trees, and water views. It took me about 2–3 hours to explore comfortably, and I felt like I could have stayed even longer just soaking in the scenery. I booked my tickets online, which came at a discounted rate — definitely worth doing ahead of time since the tours and accessible rides fill up pretty quickly. The entire space is impressively accessible, and I appreciated that wheelchairs are available free of charge for guests who need them. Parking is also free, and the staff were friendly and attentive from the moment I arrived. This place feels magical, especially with the mix of themed gardens, sculptures, and peaceful outlooks over the water. Whether you’re a plant lover, a photographer, or just looking for a serene escape, this destination delivers it all. I left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already planning a return visit.
Vijay T — Google review
If ever there was a truly magical place, it's here! Stunning gardens with something for everyone. So many vibrant flower beds, (one of them shaped like a butterfly if you can find it), a children's garden, a fairy village, many walking trails, a plethora of relaxing areas to sit and chill, a learning center, a cafe, and the trolls! The children's garden was full of whimsy. I FELT like a kid again wandering through it, marveling at the growing things, the quaint workshop, the pond, the book themed areas, and so much more! I walked 23,000 steps in these gardens, but if you have mobility issues or tend toward lazy, there is a free shuttle that is always on the go. I had a marvelous time hunting down the trolls, they are quite a sight to see. I had a preconceived notion of what the fairy village would be, which was nothing like what it actually was, but the interactive nature (pun intended) of it was satisfying. The cafe was nice, although I wish they had more variety of hot meals to choose from. The heirloom tomato sandwich I tried was quite good. The gift shop is fantastic! Beautiful items, many from local artists, along with a great selection of shirts and books. You can see it all in a couple hours, although I would dedicate at least 4 to really immerse yourself in it and not have to rush. It was more than worth the price of admission. A wonderfully soul nurturing experience.
Lisa W — Google review
Go for a visit- you will be glad you did! Loved seeing the trolls but there was so much more to see and enjoy. Staff were all very friendly, lunch in cafe was simple but good. Loved hiking the full loop to see all the sections. You could stay all day! Loved it!
Charlotte P — Google review
This botanical garden is routinely listed as one of the ten best in the USA. I understand why, but it could be even better. I loved all of the trails I went on and the excellent variety of plants and trees from the Northeast. There are great options for children including the interactive fairy village. The giant trolls and a huge hit and I particularly enjoyed the woodland garden and the hillside walk. If you get tired, there is a shuttle that will take you to most places in the gardens. What I found lacking was consistent clear signage for the trees and plants. This was notable in the garden of the senses. I needed more guidance above t what to touch, taste, smell, etc. There were at least 20 times we needed to look up a plant or tree on an app because we saw no sign. This was particularly challenging because the cell.coverage was limited and spotty. The cafe seems much nicer online than in person. It was a serve yourself cafeteria style and felt hectic and loud like the sort of cafe I expect in a zoo. I wanted a calmer, fancier dinning experience because I'm a tired old queen and I want my creature comforts served on glass plates. It you are charging $29 for adults admission per person, why not add a swanky restaurant too. In for a penny in for a pound.
Peterson T — Google review
We were only visiting the NE for a short road trip and I heard about the Trolls recycled art and that they were the Guardians of the seeds. The story lore and the awesome venture by the artist peaked our curiosity. This is a DO NOT MISS. It may seem weird to go to a botanical garden on vacay, but this is beautiful, amazing for kids, although this trip was just my husband and I and it was outstanding. Nice walks and hikes. Just outstanding place to visit.
Candice W — Google review
Visited a few times. Busy place in good weather. Rainy day visit was quiet and great to explore without crowds. Definitely check out the trolls built into the landscape. Take advantage of the free shuttles that drive around, sometimes you get lucky and get one to yourself and get a semi-private tour. We also did the guided tour on the electric cart and the docent was great with the kids and gave us great information. The kids really enjoyed riding on the cart too!

Additionally, nearby attractions such as the Burnt Island Living Lighthouse and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens provide further opportunities to explore the maritime history and natural wonders of Maine.
We had a great time everyone was very educated and everything they were talking about. My grandson and granddaughter bonded with a girl named Emma. She answered all their questions, which were a lot. It was a wonderful morning.

A great way to see, interact with, and learn about local species! Got there right at open and it wasn't too crowded initially. The lobster talk by Ruby was really awesome and Ford the lobster was great! It may be small, but the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and very excited to share their passion for these creatures. Plus there's a bunch of fun hands-on activities, in addition to just seeing the animals. My husband even found his new favorite fish (lumpfish) during our visit. The gift shop has a modest selection that is WAY cheaper than I'd expect from an aquarium gift shop! Overall, we had an amazing visit. The Maine State Aquarium does a LOT with their limited space!
Kai W — Google review
Much smaller then expected. I’d say better for kids 0-3. Somewhat costly for what you get. Arts and crafts. Beautiful view. Good time for smaller children.
Sierra B — Google review
What a fun and informative place. The staff were all super friendly and knowledgeable. Really a nice layout and display for a small location. We spent about an hour there and really enjoyed it.
Katerina L — Google review
There was a lady outside the building requiring us to pay online on pur phone before entering the building. Cost $7.50 for seniors each . Wslked into a tiny room with a small fish tank with a dozen fisg and an even smaller tank with a few jelly fish. A very small touch tank a few star fish . Very small !!! That was it. A small turtle and a very small 12inch shark in another tank. Definitely not worth $22.00 fee to see.
Ann D — Google review
It's very small and not nearly as hands on or interactive as it used to be. The grandkids (2,4) enjoyed it! I remembered taking their mom and was disappointed. She was too. We were looking forward to the gift shop to take learning back home. It didn't exist. Thankfully there were other attractions in Boothbay that made the trip more memorable. Boothbay is beautiful.

Very small but makes up for it in the rarity of petting starfish, seasponges and a large horseshoe crab! As well as other marine life to see and learn about.

We Did It All: Rafted the Kennebec, Stayed in the Cabins, and had dinner at Patrick's Pub. It was all amazing! Our White Water Raft Guide was Ben Townson and he was The Best! Highly Recommend requesting him if you go as he is licensed for Class 3, 4, and 5 rivers. The cabin was very nice and clean - we will stay again. Patrick's pub was a fun time too! Such a great weekend!

We had an amazing adventure on the Kennebec white water rafting trip on Sep 4, 2025! Before starting, Chris gave us a clear and detailed explanation of everything, which really helped us feel prepared and confident. Our guide, Jack, was fantastic – super friendly, patient, and made sure everyone felt safe while keeping the ride exciting and fun. He explained everything clearly, gave us confidence in the rapids, and added a lot of humor to the trip. The rapids were thrilling, but the team also gave us plenty of moments to relax and enjoy the beautiful Maine scenery. Everything was well organized – from check-in to gear to safety instructions – making it a stress-free day. Perfect for both first-timers and adventure seekers. After the rafting, they served food which was really good, and it was great to relax afterward with their bar on-site. A perfect way to wrap up an adventurous day! Highly recommend this experience if you’re looking for a fun outdoor activity with family or friends!

This was hands down the best thing I did on my entire road trip! I accidentally booked the wrong location and they were flexible. It was completely my fault and it yet all worked out. Perhaps I was just lucky but regardless I had an amazing time and even made some friends! Good mix of real white water rafting, swimming, raft "surfing", and gold old fashioned relaxing. The meal at the end was pretty good too. I was skeptical the upfront price was going to be worth it. Now I am convinced I will do this twice when I come back. The only thing that was over priced were the photos but at least they were taken by professionals. (Little hint, if the water temp is above 65°F you probably won't need the wet suit. Your choice though. Nonetheless, make sure, no matter what, you don't wear cotton.)

We had a group of 16 ranging in age from 6-54. Everyone had a blast. Vega was the guide on our boat and he was fantastic with the kids. The nice thing about this place is that every group gets a guide in the raft with them. Thank you so much for an awesome experience!

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, a historic 1827 landmark in Maine, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors can explore the lighthouse tower and learn about the area's history from knowledgeable guides provided by Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. The surrounding grounds are well-maintained and feature a small museum, gift shop, and amenities such as restrooms, food, and ice cream.
What a beautiful place to drive and visit. Its a beat down the beaten path, but once there, the views are gorgeous. The line to check out the lighthouse was long, so I didnt get in to see it, but its really the same view just up higher. Bring some lunch, find a spot on the rocks and enjoy the beautiful scenery. It really is worth a trip to see!
Br B — Google review
If you like lighthouses this is a neat place to go. It is open to walk up for a small donation during the season. There is also a lot of area to walk around outside, a fisherman museum, picnic tables, and an art gallery. Requires a small fee to enter the park.
Erich F — Google review
Breathtaking! Nice easy drive from Portland going up Route 1. Good destination with a stop in between at Red's for lunch. Bring extra cash to go up the lighthouse. They charge $1/person to go up because the $4/person entrance fee does not go to the operation of the lighthouse.
Khek D — Google review
If the staff that was there would have been nicer i would have given them a 5 star. We were there 10/23/25 I know itbwas closed to go into but they allowed some others inside and up in the lighthouse but not anyone else. When I walked up to the door one of the men told my wife, he said its way past Columbus day and we are closed. Rude just plan rude . But besides his rudeness it still was beautiful.
Guy S — Google review
A Delightful Coastal Gem with History, Hospitality, and Scenic Beauty What a memorable visit! From the moment we arrived, the friendly lady at the entrance made all the difference—she was incredibly knowledgeable, warmly greeted us with fascinating tidbits about the lighthouse, and even gave my pup a treat, which made her tail wag non-stop. The admission fee is very reasonable—around $4 per person (ages 12+) to access the park, including the Fishermen’s Museum, Art Gallery, Learning Center, restrooms, and picnic spots. If you’d like to climb the tower, there’s a suggested $1 donation per person, which helps maintain this historic beacon. Speaking of history, the tower standing today dates back to 1835, replacing the original 1827 structure that deteriorated due to poor mortar quality. It still houses its original fourth-order Fresnel lens, one of just six still active in Main. The keeper’s house, now the Fishermen’s Museum, offers charming exhibits on maritime life and lighthouse lore. Facilities are well-maintained and visitor-friendly. There are restrooms available on the grounds, the lawn is clean, and the entire park feels cozy yet spacious. If you’re traveling in an RV, you’re in luck—there’s plenty of parking, including ample room for larger vehicles. Craving a bite? Next door is a charming restaurant—Sea Gull Restaurant & Gift and other nearby cafés and seafood places. One friendly warning: people use the road to walk and exercise on so be mindful—safety first. All in all, a perfect blend of awe-inspiring coastal scenery, rich history, friendly faces (and dog treats!), and thoughtful amenities. A must-stop on any Maine road trip
Marcelle A — Google review
For our 25th wedding anniversary, we spent 9 days touring Maine and then Boston, visiting nearly a dozen lighthouses along the way. This is the only one we took the time (and were able) to climb, and explored the visitor center for quite awhile, too. Well worth the time spent! It's a scenic area, and the docent was extremely knowledgeable - unsurprised she competed on and placed second on Jeopardy! In the museum, Joe was extra-friendly and enthusiastic. It's clear the community has a great love of the lighthouse and associated buildings, given how quickly they had restorations done after a damaging storm in 2024. The nearby gallery featuring local artists was also a treat. If you are a lover of lighthouses and in the area, make some time to enjoy all Pemaquid Point has to offer - and even if you aren't consider stopping by.
Kyle A — Google review
Beautiful place, great views. I was there too early to climb the lighthouse, but it is open certain times during the day. There's beautiful grounds to walk around, and a cool museum inside. I want to see all of the lighthouses of Maine, was glad to mark this one off my list. $4.00 parking fee.

This is our favorite Lighthouse. My first visit was in 1965. My whole family has visited this area on vacation many times over the years. Beautiful views of ocean. They've added some seating at the top. They are also adding plantings on the upper rock areas; I assume for erosion.

Fantastic time with heavy pours of wine. We went out on a great evening and tasted oysters from a variety of the local farms. The hosts were great and we even saw a few seals.

EDIT: In response to the owner below. The response below should show any potential customer the lack of professionalism this owner has demonstrated. She states below that saying “there’s room” is not rude. While that may be the ONE thing she was truthful about in her response, does that attitude towards paying customers demonstrate professionalism and kindness in her business? No. Instead of showing positivity and problem solving, she shut us out with no solution. Her response to us was “there’s room.” To also ridicule a year old child on a public forum for crying? My daughter was excited to go on a boat that we could not fit on without touching a stranger, so yes, she was crying when we departed. As the owner is fully aware, she was not crying when we arrived. What type of person uses a Google response to shame a toddler for crying? It was not until after the owners lack of professionalism that I told her I would be writing a review of our experience, not “bullying” as she suggested below. Another untrue statement. To all future patrons and families.. please consider another tour. Cap’n Fishes in Boothbay is wonderful. There is so much space where you are not shoulder to shoulder with a stranger, room to see the sights without someone blocking your view, and their owner is COMPASSIONATE AND ACCOMMODATING. Something this owner clearly needs to practice. ORIGINAL: I am not one to write a bad review, but our experience here was beyond unsatisfactory. Our party of 5 (including a small child) arrived at the tour time. When trying to board, there was no available space for us to sit. As you can see in the picture, both the front and back, the boat was completely overcrowded. Squeezing a party of 5 onto this boat would have been impossible and extremely uncomfortable on a two hour tour. When we approached the owner about this, she was not willing to discuss it, simply saying “there’s room.” We were very much looking forward to this and are very disappointed. Please book another tour with a boat that does not shove its patrons on like cattle, and with an owner who is not so rude to its customers.

We enjoyed the Saturday oysters & wine tasting 5pm-7pm. It was absolutely terrific! Great oysters (5 kinds, 2 ea) and a generous pour of 5 wines that paired wonderfully. The captain was funny & said a bit about this or that, we saw seals 😀 and had great conversations with fellow oyster lovers!
Sonya B — Google review
I don't know how or why but the boat driver was the funniest tour guide I've ever had. The drinks were amazing (they actually have a really great sake selection) and I'm allergic to oysters but they looked great and we got a Maine door dash delivery of more oysters by a second boat.
Meghan B — Google review
What a great way to spend two hours in the afternoon - we did the one to 3 PM river cruise. There were plenty of oysters for sale on the river boat. The captain kept us informed by his narration. The water is absolutely calm no issues with sea sickness. We did see some harbor seals.
Dr. M — Google review
We did the happy hour sunset cruise. It is a two hour cruise up & down the river. Beautiful setting with some wildlife sightings. No drinks or oysters are included in the ticket but everything for purchase is reasonably priced. For example a bottle of wine will run you $24-$35, beers and cocktails are mostly under $10, some beers even priced at $6.The bartender/ oyster shucker does an amazing job with keeping up with the demand on the boat. You do have to get up and go to the bar to get your drinks, which means shuffling through a pretty packed boat. Which brings me to the biggest downfall of the tour. The boat is just way too crowded. Really interfering with a relaxing experience. I must say a lot of people were having a great time and did not seem to be bothered. If you are like my husband and I and tend to enjoy a more personal experience I would not recommend. They do have a wine tasting & oyster pairing option for more money. I think this option would have been a better choice and provided us with more of an experience we were looking for.

Me And my girlfriend Lace have been going every year for probably the last six years It’s always a great time going out on the tour having fresh wine, and great oysters. We’ve got to know the owners very well. They also do a B&B. They have a couple boats in the harbor. We rented a boat this year. It was fantastic. Highly recommend it you can get there early and the deck bar and atmosphere is great and then after you get off, go back up to the deck bar and have a good time

A great learning experience and enjoyable boat ride. I appreciated the captain's narrative interspersed with dry humorous comments. After this adventure, I will know oysters will never be the same for me--although I still like to eat them.

Cutest bookstore!!! Ahhh I could get lost in here for hours. There are so many great book sections and they are all organized. Plus, there’s a café attached to the bookstore so it is very convenient. This strip of stores are so fun to visit, like Reny’s. The staff are also super sweet.

When I found this Sherman’s bookstore a few years ago on a tourist trip, I loved it! It’s connected to a coffee shop, it’s well organized, and it was easy to find Maine-specific books. I’ve since moved to (northern) Maine, and my husband spent a weekend in Damariscotta because of the nice memories. In second impression, not as a “tourist”, I was disappointed with the ratio of tchotchkes and non-book items to books. I did appreciate their “staff picks” section with “shelf-talkers” describing why they liked a particular book. Sherman’s has locations throughout Maine, and I’ve noticed that over time they seem to carry more and more tchotchkes and fewer books in more crowded spaces. That is particularly true in Bar Harbor. That said, they are still open while many other bookstores have closed, so more power to them.
Michelle C — Google review
I absolutely loved this bookshop. One of the most cozy, fun and well stocked for topics (that I like) that I have ever been in. With a coffee shop/bakery and sandwich place next door, you can't beat it!

Colby College Museum of Art

Art museum
Museums
Intimate museum specializing in American & contemporary art, plus some Chinese & European works.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I saw in this art museum! Especially on a college campus. I went on a weekday during the summer semester, so it was very empty. There is so much to see, and I took longer exploring, than I initially thought. Great artwork on display. Some rooms were under construction, so I couldn't enter. But overall, I recommend anyone to stop by if they're in the area.
Chidi A — Google review
What a great (not so little) little museum of art! Well curated, well collected and displayed - one of the best I’ve seen for sure. I love these college campus settings too. Can’t wait for the graduating class to go on display next month!
Zachary S — Google review
What a beautiful campus. The museum is free. Happy to see some world renounced artworks. Two students walked us to the bookstore. Where can you find people like that these days.
GF T — Google review
Outstanding collection of contemporary art. Parking was ackward, but we called the museum, and they gave us instructions. Friendly staff and free admission!
S R — Google review
Not child friendly for families with a variety of ages. I wanted to let elementary and middle school age kids enjoy the art. But I was kicked out for a toddler making a few short noises. I was looking for a place that encouraged kids and families - this is not the place. After I left, the security guard continued to follow the other children in our group. Community art museums should not be so restrictive that kids feel unwelcome - this is often their first memorable exposure.
Rachel M — Google review
Very friendly, helpful staff. Very large, modern museum for a college. A large collection of American artists. Probably one of the best museums in the country and its free.

Lovely space with some beautiful pieces. Once to see a broad spectrum of American artists: black, women and indigenous people were represented in the collection. I appreciate that.

Located in Waldoboro, Morse's Sauerkraut is a renowned MidCoast establishment that offers a unique blend of deli and luncheonette experiences. The shop has upheld the tradition of Virgil Morse, who began crafting sauerkraut from scratch in 1918. In addition to their signature kraut, Morse's boasts an impressive selection of fresh sausages, tinned fish, craft beers, and cheeses.
This place shouldn’t exist but it does and it’s a gem that is worth a side trip. Amazing selection of wines, cheeses, meats, and lacto-fermented goodness. Foodies should run, not walk to this place. You will be rewarded … it’s like the field of dreams of the deli/grocery world!

Such a cute unique place!!! Hidden in the country side, it is an absolute gem if you want international goods that make great gifts or for your own cooking. I was blown away by all that they had and will definitely be going back. Oh and the sauerkraut was good too ha! The ready made sandwich was AMAZING. Fresh product and unique too. Well worth the trip in the country side.
Paxton S — Google review
Morse’s Sauerkraut is located in the middle of farm country in Waldoboro, in an unassuming roadside building, but the moment you walk in, you have entered a gourmet import store and restaurant. Morse’s has been making their own sauerkraut and pickles for more than 100 years, and I’m not sure how long the shop has been open. They have a large and interesting variety of cheese, and they are enthusiastic about answering questions and providing samples. I always learn something when I stop in. In the sausage/deli cooler, they have German, Hungarian and Pork sausages, as well as imported hams, smoked pork, and other charcuterie. The rest of the shop is devoted to imported products and ingredients, mostly German, and a huge selection of chocolates. We always stop by for our holiday candy for stockings and gifts.
Dean E — Google review
This place exceeded my expectations!!! So much more inside this shop. We all know about their amazing Kraut and pickles, but their homemade pastrami is like heaven in my mouth. The fact that I was able to sample not only the pastrami but also some of the most amazing cheeses I ever tasted made my day! I will be traveling back for cheese and pastrami frequently!

Went here on a beautiful fall day. The drive into this remote restaurant was stunning. The German restaurant and store is kinda awesome. Lots of product that you don't normally see. Various pickle samples. We ended up choosing the half sours. So good. The restaurant was fun too. Small room only five tables so we had to wait but it was worth it. Had the bratwurst with Sauerkraut and a reuben both were great. Fun outing.

You have got to stop here. It is amazing. All the pickles and kraut are just the start. It is wonderful. Wish the restaurant was open. It sounds awesome. Can’t wait to come back. The deli has a tremendous variety of meats and cheese. Don’t forget about the great selection of candy.

All view, no wine Nice distraction if you need a break from great lobster and seafood, but absolutely not worth the money. The view is the only thing worth savoring. Every wine is a bland blend, sour, and full of visible sediment (Weinstein). Fresh glasses? Refused. Sad. Didn’t even bother to taste the sweet stuff. This isn’t a winery, it’s a tourist trap with a nice backdrop.

Came here from NYC with my partner just to experience the best winery in the east coast! I came here 8 years ago when they were at a different location , but the wine is still fire! The atmosphere? Eloquent. The wine? Crisp and smooth. I love this winery. I’m more of a white/ dessert wine girly. They never fail to impress me!!!

We stumbled upon the winery while heading to our next hotel. When the weather is great make sure you stop by to sit on their porch and have some wine. Not sure why some people had issues with their wine but most I thought were pleasant. Staff were polite and the snacks are enough to enjoy a lunch while over looking the Valley.

Literally could be a maine postcard. Stunning. Came at low tide and off-season. Had the trail all to my self 10/10
Laura A — Google review
Rugged hike. Lots of exposed roots and very hard walking. Would not suggest for children and also dogs are not allowed. Beautiful and unique wooded area all the way until you reach the sand bar wich is even more breathtaking. Sunset was amazing but a risky walk out with footing being so rooted on walk out. It gets busy in the summer and not a lot of space on the trail considering the amount of parking there is and how busy it gets in the summer months.
Dale J — Google review
Nice walk. The neck is passable from a good three hours before to the hours after low tide. Nice mossy woods on the walk to the island, then dramatic rocky coastline.
Byron D — Google review
Good hike. It was easy but took longer than expected. We were able to cross the sand bar to the island and it had gorgeous views.
Emily R — Google review
A beautiful, beautiful place. The walk out it through the moss covered woods. A little tricky, with lots and lots of roots to step over. Once to the beach it's nice sand. Check the tide chart, if you can catch low tide you can walk out to little barred Island. It is small but can be difficult traversing the boulders and rocks. A worth while visit!!
Angela S — Google review
A 2.5 mile walk through the woods to Barred Island. The views are unreal and the path is fairly easy but there are a lot of roots so wear decent shoes. Pay attention to low tide times so you are able to walk across and enjoy.
Doug G — Google review
Excellent trail with a unique landscape at the start (a lot of moss along the ground). The trail isn't hard, I saw allot of family's hiking it in sneakers though there are some muddy spots as expected. Roots and rocks to walk over. The views of the ocean at the end are nice.

Sights & Landmarks
Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Observatory is a historic site featuring a 19th-century granite fort and a modern bridge with a 420-ft. observation tower. The park includes three military forts, including the well-preserved Fort Knox open for tours in the summer. The Penobscot Narrows Bridge, an engineering marvel, offers stunning views and opened in 2006. Visitors can explore the cool stone interiors of the fort on hot days and enjoy the open water batteries outside.
We had a great time checking out the views in the observatory! I do wish you could just pay a smaller fee to just go to the observatory as there is one blanket cost for both fort Knox and the observatory. Parking is great and there are decent restrooms to use. The elevator is quick! There is plenty of room at the top and it feels rock solid. You can see far around with helpful dioramas to show where points of interest are.
Joshua Y — Google review
We first found interest in the observation tower inside the bridge, which was amazing! Arriving early/mid-morning (and mid week) parking and access was very quick and easy. The elevator to the top was fast, quiet and seemingly motionless (for those of you who are squeamish). There are some more steps at the top, but still have a great view if you choose not to move higher (for those of you who have walking and steps limitations). The view is amazing and there are displays that indicate what you’re seeing as you look out in any direction. Fort Knox (no….not THAT Fort Knox) which is included in the ticket price, has a self guided tour of the fort, complete with canons, quarters, displays with pictures and descriptions of daily life, timeline and purpose of this fort designed to protect inland invasion during the Spanish-American war.
Jeff A — Google review
Stumbled upon this gem during our drive back from Bar Harbor to New York City. Located about an hour west of Bar Harbor/Acadia along Route 1. Saw a beautiful bridge and signs for “Fort Knox” observatory and headed toward that direction. Admission to the Fort alone is about $6.50 for out-of-state visitors and combined with the bridge observatory (recommended) is about $9.50. After paying the fees at the gate, you can either head to explore the fort or down toward the bridge’s observatory deck. There is a separate parking area for the bridge observatory. Once there, you head down along the path to the bridge’s tower entrance. You then take an elevator up to the top. From there, there are two short flights of stairs to get to the top/observatory section. The views there are spectacular…more than worth the nominal price of admission. The elevator operators/greeters were both super nice and very informative. The fort itself is also great with lots of area to explore on multiple levels. The top and bottom levels offer some great view of the Penobscot River. The gift shop there is also nice…lots of souvenir and snack options. All staff we encountered were very nice and helpful.
Jemlnlx — Google review
We visited here on our way from Camden to Bar Harbor. I separately reviewed the Penobscot Observation Tower which was also a great experience. Upon arrival in the parking lot you are given the option to purchase a ticket for just the Fort or for the Fort and Ovservation Tower; there is no Observation Tower only. Our priority was the Observation Tower and ww used what time was remaining to explore the Fort. There is a gift shop and restrooms you pass on your way into and back out of the Fort itself. The first thing I noticed was how intact the structure of the Fort was. Many of the ones I have seen in other places are reconstructions or ruins with walls crumbling. My husband and I explored a good bit of the area, although not all of it due to time constraints. I loved that you were able to walk through the same places soldiers did 200 years ago. The views from outside the walls were also incredible and very much worth stopping for on a sunny day. Overall, a truly great slice of history. We were just 2 adults, but I imagine kids would also love exploring this place, too. Highly recommend, especially as a way to break up the drive to or from Bar Harbor.

A well preserved fortification. Great place to bring well behaved pups. As they are welcomed onto all the grounds. SnickleFritz loved it. The folks working here are as friendly as can be. Especially in the gift shop and at the entrance gate. Great entertainment for kids of all ages.

Nice to visit fort. Nice, but small Visitors Center, which included giftshop. Long walk to inside of fort, but I made it and I'm disabled. Getting into the fort was difficult because of a steep ramp. Lots of big stairs and steep ramps throughout. I pretty much sat while my husband looked around. It was really big with lots to explore. He like it.

This fort is awesome! Fully explorable, and friendly staff. It’s a great mostly restored and a great historical location, the guide signs are helpful in figuring out what things are. There is a great book about the fort in the gift shop too, paperback and affordable, worth it. “The Observatory” visit is the most awesome thing I’ve done on a bridge, ever! Absolutely worth every penny. I’ve been here before and I’ll be back to visit again. Great visit 👍

Really cool place to explore! It’s quite the hidden gem as there weren’t very many people when we went. It’s incredibly impressive, especially for how old it is, they have done an amazing job with the upkeep. Doesn’t take too long to explore, which is nice, and it also provides a beautiful view of the water.

The tallest public bridge observatory in the world, with panoramic views of the river & Fort Knox.
Pretty cool that there’s a structure this tall in this part of maine. Beautiful views and I enjoyed the plaques up in the observation deck explaining each directions view and what you were even looking at.

One of 4 bridge observatories in the world. Love coming here. Admission includes access to Fort Knox's rich history, too!
Rick F — Google review
My human and I almost embarked on a legendary journey to the top of the world: an observatory with views so vast they whisper ancient secrets to the wind. But alas… destiny was cruel. We stopped. I peed. She said, “Back in the car.” No exploration. No panoramic glory. No moment of reflection under the endless sky. Just asphalt and betrayal. As we drove away, I stared longingly out the window — my fur tousled by the air of unrealized adventure — and whispered to myself, “The stars deserved better.” Final Verdict: Great potential. Poor execution. I’m bringing a different human next time.

Enjoyed a couple of hours visiting the bridge, the observatory at the tip of the bridge, and the accompanying fort. Elevator ride to the observatory was quick and easy. Views were great.

Excellent views. Entry fee gets you into both the tower and the nearby fort. Glad we stopped.

Wonderful experience, if you're in the area you need to go and see its amazing I wish the Alabama Dot would do one in our state
Guy S — Google review
Was quite pricey to visit the observatory. We just stopped by, took a view for free and left. By the way this was not the original bridge - they rebuilt a modern version. Still cool tho.

Eye catching bridge that has an observatory on top of one main support tower. Was a beautiful day and a nice place to spend a few hours.

The Cole Land Transportation Museum in Bangor, Maine is a captivating destination for enthusiasts of vintage vehicles and transportation history. Founded by Earl E. Cole in 1956, the museum's mission is to preserve and showcase a diverse array of land transportation equipment from Maine's past. Visitors can explore an extensive collection that includes antique cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, military vehicles spanning from World War II to the Vietnam War era, as well as farm equipment and even bicycles.
Cole Land Transportation Museum – A Must-See Stop in Bangor! During a trip to Bangor earlier in 2025, I stopped at the Cole Land Transportation Museum—and it ended up being one of the best parts of the visit. I was welcomed right away by two fellow veterans volunteering at the front, and that connection alone made the experience more meaningful. I also received a handcrafted Maine maple walking stick—a thoughtful gift the museum gives to veterans as a way to honor their service and offer something lasting to take home. Inside, the museum holds an impressive collection of land transportation history—antique snowplows, fire trucks, tractors, military vehicles, and more. From restored Model Ts to equipment used in Maine’s logging and farming industries, everything is well displayed with clear signage and wide walkways to explore at your own pace. I also learned more about the museum’s background. It was founded by Galen Cole, a WWII veteran and trucking company owner, who wanted to preserve local transportation history while also honoring veterans and educating future generations. That mission really comes through as you walk through the exhibits—it’s more than just old equipment. The volunteers shared how committed the museum is to veteran outreach and education. They mentioned how the museum hosts school groups, military reunions, and community events that promote patriotism and civic responsibility. Outside, there’s a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter and an M60 tank surrounded by plaques and flags in a memorial area that’s both quiet and powerful. Admission was very reasonable, and the visit was absolutely worth it. Whether you’re into history, vehicles, or just looking for something different in the Bangor area, I highly recommend stopping here. I’d go back without hesitation.

This was an impromptu stop rather early in the morning, so I didn't visit the museum, but just getting to visit the outside things was worth the detour.

Amazing! I went for an event for my grandchildren and truly enjoyed every minute. It is so fascinating and I am not interested in vehicles at all. Just not my thing. The children had so much fun with the event and the scavenger hunt throughout the museum. They looked at everything there trying to find the pieces on the scavenger hunt pictures. The museum is AMAZING and I can't wait to go back.

The Paul Bunyan Statue in Bangor, Maine has been a prominent landmark since 1959. Standing at 31 feet tall, this colorful fiberglass statue was a gift from a New York group of builders to commemorate their 125th anniversary. It depicts the legendary lumberjack alongside his blue ox and has become a popular photo spot for visitors. The statue is located in Bass Park and serves as a tribute to Bangor's forestry heritage, attracting thousands of tourists annually.
Parking is iffy. If you’re quick you can get away with parking at the gas station across the way. Simple but quick activity to do with the kids. Fun to see how little they are in comparison to the monstrosity that is Paul Bunyan!
Zandra M — Google review
If you are doing a drive-by, you have the Entertainment so there's no traffic coming. It might be easier to park somewhere to take a picture. We got lucky as it wasn't real busy.
Karen B — Google review
This was a lot larger than I imagined and I really liked it. The statue was in really good condition and the info boards surrounding it are well worth reading as the whole story about the man and the statue is interesting and fun. Well worth a visit if you're nearby and it is only a short walk from the waterfront so the two combined can use up a few hours.

Very nice detail on the statue and very informative information on the posts around the statue. The landscaping was a bit unkept, but overall a nice visit.

This is one of the iconic things to do in Bangor, and so we were happy to stop by. We weren’t exactly sure where to park because it is located near a busy street, but once we did, we enjoyed taking pictures of Paul and reading the plaques about the statue.

Nestled in the vibrant Waterfront District of Bangor, the Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway Bangor offers a delightful blend of entertainment and relaxation. This contemporary hotel features cozy rooms and suites, making it an ideal spot for both leisure seekers and gaming enthusiasts. While it may not boast the same grandeur as Las Vegas, this charming casino is one of Maine's few gambling destinations, showcasing an exciting array of slot machines, table games, and a live poker room.
We had a fantastic experience from start to finish! The staff was incredibly attentive, polite, and fast. From the friendly Jack at the front desk, to the welcoming and efficient waitstaff in the restaurant, and the upbeat bartenders in the casino every interaction was top-notch. We had the quesadillas and they were absolutely delicious fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The drinks were great too, and the whole dining experience was one of the many a highlights of our stay. The music throughout the evening was upbeat and full of energy we loved it! It really added to the fun and lively atmosphere. We also spent some time in the casino and had a blast playing roulette with Tyson he was friendly, fun, and made the game even more enjoyable. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. It’s clear the whole team takes pride in making guests feel welcome and taken care of. We truly enjoyed ourselves and can’t wait to come back again. Highly recommended!

Great location (we were just passing through on a road trip), casino floor is very very small, but I had no problem finding a spot to sit. Casino hotel and floor is very nice and clean. Hotel room was clean, the bedding and pillows were so comfy! Parking in garage was easy. There is 1 restaurant and 1 cafe on the casino floor. Front desk staff were all friendly.
Jackie P — Google review
Our room wasn’t as clean as it should have been, there was dust everywhere, and we had to call for another blanket because the one in our room had a yellow, crusty stain on it. On a positive note, we really enjoyed the service at Hops House 99, the staff was great, and the food was awesome. We were also told that if we billed our meal to the room, we’d get a $5 credit, which we did. After dinner, we stopped by the small store near check-in to grab some water and snacks. After browsing for several minutes, the woman at the front desk informed us that their system was down and she couldn’t sell us anything. We asked if she could bill it to our room once the system was back up, but she said no. Not a huge deal, we figured we’d just use the two 10 oz complimentary waters in the room. However, upon checkout, I noticed a $10 “amenity charge” on our bill. When I asked about it, I was told it covered the two bottles of water, the $5 dining credit, and “other things.” That honestly felt ridiculous, if I’m paying for it, don’t call it an amenity. All in all, we still had a decent time. It was nice to gamble a little, enjoy some good food, and relax afterward. Would I stay again? Maybe, but only if the price wasn’t over $200 a night, the room was worth $100 tops.
Jolene S — Google review
Needed a last minute place to stay as we were passing through Bangor. Rooms were large and clean. Casino was nice but on the small side. We never had a server come by when we were gambling so I couldn't tell you if the drinks are complimentary or if you need to pay when gambling. Food options at the hotel/casino are limited. We ate at the 99, which I would consider bar'ish type food. Nice enough place would probably stay here again if in the area.
Kent K — Google review
Had a great time here! The slot selection is really solid, lots of new machines along with the classics, so there’s something for everyone. The craps table has a fun, lively vibe with friendly dealers who keep the game moving. Drinks came fast, and the cocktail servers were all super nice and attentive. Definitely one of the better spots in Bangor for a night out with some energy and good luck vibes.
Steve M — Google review
Worst hotel I ever stayed at. They DO NOT SERVICE THE ROOMS. If you want clean towels you need to leave the soiled ones in the hall and hope clean ones are left in their place which we did not know until I complained on our second day. The room temp felt like 65F and the thermostat had no effect on the temp. Charged $10 fee for Amenities that included a Hotel Pantry which is a joke, all items in there are for an additional cost. We stayed for 3 days at $200+ /day and had better service, rooms, free breakfast, and better stay at a $80 Comfort Inn. Never again will I stay there.

I’m a regular and to be fair I have won and lost probably about the same ! But, the payout when I been gambling high is something to be shocked. Yesterday I was bidding on a 25 cent/ 12.50 bid and had two chances of winning kind of big …. 2 /6 free games … nothing 🥹 it just took my money. I came @ 1130 and left at about 1230 with 1000 🤣 I played the gorilla and I played 10 cent on a 7.50 bet and Won 500 but it was brutal, once I got that it slowly took it back to 200😔 everything was high and the machine was like making it hard to win the jackpots. Totally amazing. I played a lower amount on a machine and it was full ready to let go and I played 2 cents … 1.50 bet won maybe 20 dollars 🤣. Couldn’t get them to pay off . The saying for here is if you don’t leave with what you have they will take it😏 I had won $750 dollars of free slot just back about 6 months ago and they took it back 🥹 not one time did I win…. Doesn’t make sense to even try and use the free win slot 😏

Had an enjoyable 1 night stay. The curtains keep the room nice and dark. Hotel and surrounding area was easy to navigate. We were able to walk to the Amphitheater, and other near by locations. Didn't hear a peep from other guests, nice to have a quiet room.

Island Cruises offers an exhilarating adventure for families, especially children, as they embark on a scenic boat ride around the stunning islands off Maine's coast. This experience allows young explorers to spot diverse wildlife, wander along rocky shores, and delve into the rich history and ecology of the region. With engaging activities like seashell collecting and marine life identification, kids not only connect with nature but also learn about conservation's significance. Travelers rave about their experiences aboard Island Cruises!
I have probably taken 10 boat rides on the Maine coast over the years and this was among the very best! Eli is an engaging storyteller, well versed on the history of the local islands, as well as the local wildlife, history and rules of Maine lobstering, and various local anecdotes. He imparts all of this knowledge in a very entertaining and educational 2 hour tour. We passed several islands, saw bald eagles, seals and many other shore birds, a salmon fishery and much more. Engaging for all ages. Truly 5 stars.

Our Harbor Island cruise with Captain Eli Straus was absolutely unforgettable! Captain Eli is a natural and engaging storyteller who freely shared his expert (and abundant!) knowledge of Maine’s rugged shores and islands with both professional skill and humor. We loved learning from him — from hauling up a lobster trap and examining its contents…getting close enough to the salmon farms to literally count the fish jumping…watching seals frolic and bald eagles taking flight from their remote island nests…the experience was a nonstop procession of wonder and delight. The timing was perfect and the atmosphere warm and inviting. We also enjoyed Robin’s presence and would have loved to hear from her. Together, they made this cruise feel truly special. Highly, highly recommend!

This tour was awesome. If you are looking for a great tour of the area take this one. Have done tour out of Bar Harbor in past and this one is way better. Ely & Robin shared so much information about the area and we got to see so much wildlife. Harbor seals, grey seals, porpoises, birds, & bald eagles. View of Bass Harbor Head lighthouse from the water is spectacular. We had a great weather day, sunny and 68 degrees on September 23.

We had an amazing time on our private sailboat ride with Captain Hutch! He was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience so enjoyable. The scenery was absolutely stunning – from the sparkling water to the peaceful views, it truly felt like the perfect escape. Captain Hutch’s knowledge and relaxed demeanor made us feel comfortable the entire time. It was such a beautiful and memorable experience, and absolutely worth it. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a special and unforgettable sailing adventure!

Absolutely the best part of our entire trip! We did a four hour private charter, brought our drinks and snacks and loved every minute of it. We saw so many seals, several light houses and a salmon fishery plus was able to view several islands up close. Would recommend this charter to anyone interested in Maine and its history!

Really enjoyed this tour! Our tour guide Eli, being born and raised on the island was super knowledgeable of the area, history and wildlife. It does not matter which side of the boat you sit on, they are so thoughtful and will turn the boat around so everyone gets an unobstructed view of points of interest. We were able to see all sorts of wildlife and walk away with a little knowledge we didn’t have before. The boat is large enough to feel safe on the water but small enough to feel you were receiving a more personalized experience- I appreciated that. Highly recommend!
Jennifer B — Google review
We had a great time with this company!! Guided by a sweet married local couple, we learned so much about Bass Harbor and experienced so much wildlife. We saw seals, eagles, lobster, porpoises, and other wild birds. Would definitely do again!! :)
Eve L — Google review
We enjoyed a fabulous 2 hr cruise with captain Matt, whose knowledge and anecdotes contributed significantly to what was a truly wonderful late-afternoon cruise. The weather was perfect, and the views from the bay/ocean provided a unique perspective of this beautiful coastline. Returning to harbor, the sunset was stunning, and Matt happily shared a look of the catch he had made earlier in the day ! Altogether a visually rewarding way in which to enjoy 2 hrs on the water.

Perched on a sea cliff, the Bass Harbor Head Light Station is a historic 1858 lighthouse in Maine that offers stunning views and rocky paths leading to photography vantage points and tide pools. It's one of the most photographed lighthouses in the state, attracting around 180,000 visitors annually. While you can't tour the inside of the lighthouse, its picturesque location makes it a popular spot for visitors.
Cool spot! A short walk will take to a few flights a stairs.. then out into the rocky cliffs. A bit of work to get a view of the lighthouse.. but well worth it. Such a great perpective to see from. Would be amazing to see at sunrise or sunset... Parking can be tough, but it's worth it if the queue is not too terribly long.

A Quintessential Maine Experience Bass Harbor Head Light Station isn't just a lighthouse; it's the postcard-perfect image of the Maine coast brought to life. Standing sentinel over the rugged, wave-battered granite, this iconic station is an absolute must-see when visiting Acadia National Park or Mount Desert Island. Unforgettable Views The views here are truly breathtaking. From the short, easy trail that leads you to the viewing area, you get an immediate sense of the wild, untamed beauty of the Atlantic. The classic brick structure of the 1858 lighthouse contrasts stunningly with the green pines and the deep blue water. The experience of descending the wooden stairs and carefully navigating the rocky shoreline to get that classic, low-angle photograph is worth the minor scramble. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes! It's one of the few places where you feel completely immersed in the dramatic coastal landscape.

Definitely a must if you’re in the area! Get there early as parking and spots at the rocks are very limited, especially during busy seasons. I went the first weekend of November which isn’t considered a busy time and there were still a good amount of people and there were only two parking spots open an hour before sunset. The views were amazing! I love sunsets and always go hunting for a nice spot, this one is top of my list. The perfect spot to enjoy and relax for a while.

My husband and I visited the Monday after the 4th of July weekend. It was pretty busy in the mid-afternoon when we arrived, but we fortunately got a spot pretty quickly. The lot is small and at rhe wrong time of day you could be waiting awhile. This is a beautiful lighthouse with gorgeous views. The cliffside has steps descending and then rocks you can scramble over for better views and pictures. Thankfully, my husband is adventurous and took some great shots for us. This is a must see. Definitely try to come when it is less busy (so not at sunset) if possible.
Jackie A — Google review
During our visit we sat in a line of cars for close to an hour to get a parking spot. Then walked down a windy rocky trail to view the light house. It was okay but to be honest after judging the wait, the crowds, and what it was I could have done without. The views are nice though and most of the people friendly and courteous.
Jeff S — Google review
This is a beautiful lighthouse on the south side of Acadia National Park. If you are daring abd climb out onto the rocks you can get a spectacular shot. But even from the less challenging trail it is one of the most beautiful places with the waves crashing on the rocks and the lighthouse and the bouy bell clanging. Not to be missed when visiting Bar Harbour and Acadia.
Suzan M — Google review
The Bass Harbor Head Light Station has two separate trails that offer two separate views of the Light Station. There is a very small parking lot near the entrance to the two trails, maybe fits about 12-15 cars. The lot was full when we arrived so we parked on the street with a long line of cars close to the "no parking on the road" sign and received a violation notice as the park ranger drove through the area. Be careful. With it being mid October of 2025 and the Gov shutdown, we thought the rules were a suggestion, our bad, follow the rules. The trail to the left of the parking lot takes you out to a few stairs that lead you down to the rocks so that you can walk on the rocks and get some great views of the light station and the coast. Great spot to sit on the rocks and enjoy the views. The trail to the right of the parking lot takes you down to the light station where you do get additional views of the coast line. Smaller area with fencing around, but great views Overall, it's a fun spot to check out.
Jamie W — Google review
Lighthouses are already magical, but a lighthouse placed where you can capture both it and the sunset is next tier. During the seasons where the weather is good, a lot of people tend to also want to catch the sunset here, so be prepared and come early to get a parking spot. Also be prepared to have people get in your way if you're wanting to take pictures, because the evening I actually got to see the sunset, there were at least 50 people also out on the rocks with the same idea, if not closer to 100. Nevertheless, the sunset is always a beautiful thing to see. Honestly, I was more enamoured with the view towards the east, with the colour of the water, and how the rocks seemed to glow in the evening light. My one disappointment was that the lens of the lighthouse was not on, or perhaps not functioning. That would have made it perfect.

We had a great time on the railroad! The trip was short but informative and all the volunteers were so nice. We booked in advance and would recommend doing so. The outdoor seating area was nice to watch the scenery and the old train cars were comfortable.

2 stars for us adults. I'm guessing more stars if we had been kids. Gorgeous, historical train. No wait; all times were honored. A handful of riders appeared to enjoy sitting at the train's picnic tables-- some of the tables were covered by umbrellas & others were not. We saw two families bring a packed lunch on board. We sat in a covered train car. It was great that the original seats could be flipped so passengers could face others who accompanied them. The older, all volunteer staff was absolutely great. The BEST! The automated narrative history was essentially INAUDIBLE; we maybe caught 5% of it over the speakers, which had been a big draw for us when we purchased the tickets a month plus in advance. Had the volume been at a decent level perhaps the many kids & adults would not have been so loud. (Or perhaps etiquette for riders should have been posted or enforced.) We saw osprey nests, trees, dead trees in marshes, dead trees on dry land, businesses, one school, we went over one tiny bridge, then returned. Not at all impressive. It was very hot whenever the train stopped, and at one point we were not moving for a very long time. The ceiling fans were much too small to provide enough air movement (see pic). On board, there were too many very loud children w/ their very loud parents; it took everything in my power not to thank them for making the ride almost unbearable. Staff walked/sold water & snacks from the aisle, and they hole punched out tickets before we exited. They also were willing to pose for photos. WONDERFUL people! Sadly, the overall experience was not. I would return ONLY if I had a child who really wanted to ride on a train.

We traveled with 2 adults and 2 kids and we loved it. We learned a lot about the history of the train and the rail system in Maine. Our kids loved being on a train and seeing how it all works. It is a short trip out and back, but it was a lot of fun.

Great for history of the trains and tracks/routes. Not much in way of scenery. The ride takes you through town and then back again, with maybe 3-4 minutes of "wildlife viewing". Happy to donate funds to make this better attraction. Kids will love it, if they dig trains and such.

Mt Desert Island is a picturesque Maine island featuring several villages and part of Acadia National Park. The island boasts the work of architect Robert Savage, who designed over 300 buildings in the area, including the Colonial Revival-style Callendar House. Once a summer retreat for the affluent, it was transformed into a tourist destination in the mid-1800s. Preservation efforts by Charles W. Eliot and George B.
The island has got to be my most favorite place in the world. It has everything from small beautiful towns to amazing hikes and long trails

Bar Harbor and Acadia are both on this stunning island, but you don't need to venture into either to view breathtaking scenery. I was there late October. Zero crowds, no problem parking anywhere.

The BEST vacation I've ever had and I've been to the Caribbean and Europe! You get everything from mountains to beaches to cute little towns to wildlife right in front of you. Acadia is just breathtaking too. It takes about 30-40 mins to get from 1 side of the island to the other as well, it's the perfect family vacation.

Spent 2 days on the island. Acadia National park was beautiful. Loved walking downtown Bar Harbor.

Island in Maine. Lots of lobsters, granite, fog and water. There's a national park here. It's pretty cool.

We come up here almost every year. Boring? Maybe. Or maybe we just found the perfect laid back, outdoorsy, dog friendly place in the USA to unwind and recharge.

Visitor center
The Hulls Cove Visitor Center is the main visitor complex in Acadia National Park, offering maps, souvenirs, and ranger-led activities. It provides direct access to carriage roads and serves as a hub for park transportation with plans for expanded parking and improved traffic flow. The center is a popular starting point for the scenic 27-mile park loop road, which showcases stunning fall foliage and breathtaking overlooks.
We were here the Monday after the 4th of July weekend. We only had a few minutes as I messed up the hours and thought they were open til 5. It is a long walk up the stairs; not a problem for us, but if you hsve mobility issues, use the upper parking lot. This is the place to go to get your bearings as well as collect Passport Stamps. Rangers can help you ascertain appropriate hikes and let you know about activities (the Star Gazing on the beach was amazing!) taking place.

A nice visitor center with lot of information available, the rangers are very helpful and guides you very well. You need to climb 52 steps to reach the center. Ample of parking space and great point to start your Acadia journey. You can buy your entry pass and it also has a souvenir store.

7-24-2025 so many cars. All-day parking was an issue. After driving around the parking lot at Jordan Pond, I just dropped off my family and I kept driving around till they finished. At one point there was a traffic Jam, no cars could move...a park employee should have been directing traffic. Our time for Mt. Cadillac was noon. We got to the top and once again had to drop off my family. I found a spot 18 minutes later. Sand beach same thing. Once parked the park was awesome!!!

Everyone is so kind! We took #4 bus and got off at otter point. We walked back up to sand beach and that worked well as the buses weren't as filled there. It's a beautiful hike!

We mainly stopped at the Hulls Cove visitor center to park our car and use the free island explorer shuttle. This was so useful to avoid searching for parking at different points of Acadia as it can get very crowded during peak season. Honestly during peak times in a day (mid morning), finding a parking spot at the visitor centre was also very difficult. You can use restrooms, refill bottles, buy any souvenirs, buy the weekly passes for entrance and get any information you want at the centre. The people working there are so kind and are happy to help especially with shuttle timings and routes.

We visited on a Monday afternoon in late June 2025. There were parking spots when we arrived. I don't think it's super crowded here because there really isn't much of a visitor center. You could go inside and they had a tiny exhibit area with mostly large maps of the park. They have 2 lines, one for park passes and one for information. The information line was always long and this is where we had to go for our junior ranger booklets. There are also the National Park Service Passport Cancellation Stamp here. Don't forget all the other ones in Acadia NP like at the Sieur de Monts Nature Center, Cadillac Mountain Retail Store, Thunder Hole Retail Store, Jordan Pond Retail Store, Little Cranberry Island. They were all different stamps. There was a small merch store here as well which took up about 1/3 of the visitor center. Also there are bathrooms here. Other than these things there is no real other reason to be in this visitor center. It's more of a way station. However I know the brand new Visitor Center just opened up on the road just outside the park with a huge exhibit space and 300 parking spots. The only other thing about this visitor center is that at the entrance there is the typical National Park sign "Acadia National Park". If you wanted to walk over and take a official photo with it. Unfortunately it's not a very pretty background. It's just trees and parking lot.

We visited Acadia national park in Maine USA to see sunrise on Cadillac Mountain at 4.52am it was really beautiful. It's the first place where sunrise rise is seen in USA. We went by car from jersey city. We then drove to Hulls Cove Visitor Center and parked our car. We then visited the centre to be guided regarding hikes in Acadia national park. We collected maps. They gave us bus route timings to different treks. We then caught bus number 5 to go to Jordan Pond. We reached in 20 minutes. We then went first for a small trek to a nearby trail called Carriage Road and finished it. So beautiful with a small stream flowing, lovely bridges and awesome trees. Then went as walk-in to the Jordan Pond Restaurant and booked a table for the 4 of us, we got it in 25 minutes. Then had an amazing yummy lunch and went for a lovely walk around the most beautiful and big lake though they call it a Pond. Then we returned in the evening to catch bus number 5 back to the visitor center. Please do visit when in Acadia national park. Memorable. Dr. Narayan Pratap bangalore

Start here when visiting Acadia National Park. The Rangers are super helpful and answer questions, handout maps, give directions, etc. There is a great bus system here also, ran by the park service. We parked our car and rode the bus to all the sites along the way.

Mountains
Cadillac Mountain, standing at 1,530 feet, offers a trail with informative plaques and stunning panoramic views from the top. The mountain is also known for hosting events like the Acadia Night Sky Festival's Shuttle to the Stars, where visitors can join astronomers and park rangers to observe constellations and other night sky features using binoculars and telescopes.
I hiked the north ridge trail to the summit to witness the beautiful sunrise. But to get a parking spot there you need to be there really early. Otherwise you will struggle to find a spot. Anyway, it was awesome to see the sun like this. No trees, no houses or whatever in the way. Just the wind, the sun and you. And a few other visitors of course. I started the hike around 3 AM and arrived at the top around 4 AM. Sunrise was at 5:39 AM. That is plenty of time to see the horizon turning red. Until the sun emerges in a bright red light. Awesome!

What an incredible experience. Make your reservations to drive the mountain drive. Explore every backroad possible. The views were amazing and the fall colors were stunning. Pictures don’t come close to showing how beautiful they were. Take the time for this drive.

Despite it being windy and cloudy thwarting our views, it was a beautiful trip up the mountain. I loved being in the cloud! There were fresh ripe wild blueberries, and beautiful trails to explore. I highly recommend! You must make reservations in advance to access Cadillac Mountain. Tickets go on sale 30 days in advance.

We managed to get a summit mountain road pass 48 hours prior and it was an AMAZING sunrise. It was very very very cold though. Would highly recommend seeing this sunrise.

So grateful to have the opportunity trekking on the north ridge trail to see the sunrise. Even though I should wake up at 4.30 AM, the experience was worth it. The view while climbing up the trail was magnificent, great opportunity to have great bonding with friends. On the summit, the view was amazing, you wouldn’t regret to be there. Besides, you could also use car to reach the summit. However, just make sure that you bought the ticket online.

Known for the first bit of sun, we ventured out for sunset. Beautiful view of mountains, ocean, and lakes. Perfect view from the summit road overlook.

Best views in Acadia! I highly recommend the hike up, especially in the fall. It’s also a great place to see the sunrise, and there are several overlooks facing east on the hike up you can stop at for sunrise so you can enjoy the view crowd-free (expect huge crowds at the summit for sunrise). If you’re driving, you MUST have a reservation!

Gorgeous views! Lots of visitors so it’s hard to find parking. Also, you must have a reservation to enter for the sunrise viewing.Good luck with that! We had to take what was available so we went at 10am. It was packed, no parking and also govt shutdown so services were limited.

Bar Island Land Bridge in Bar Harbor, Maine is a natural wonder that emerges during low tide, creating a pebbled land bridge across the Skillings River to Bar Island. This unique experience offers stunning views of Mount Desert Island and Bar Harbor. Accessible by foot or all-terrain vehicle, visitors can explore the island's trails and remnants of a historic house. However, it's crucial to be mindful of the tides to avoid getting stranded on the island.
This was a super fun activity to do in bar harbor. Parking was hectic but once we found a spot it was so cool to go over to the bridge when it was almost low tide and have it walk through a foot of water to get to the island but then on the way back the entire bridge was uncovered and already dry as if it had always been there. There was also a nice breeze to cool you down on a hot summer day. On the island there were two trails as well. One that goes all the around the island that was quiet and one that went to the top of the island. This was a fun activity to do after getting some food in bar harbor. Certainly recommend.
Colin B — Google review
Any time there is an opportunity to explore a land bridge, take it. I accidentally stumbled across this gem while walking around and exploring Bar Harbor, so I didn't prep to view it at low tide, and therefore did not make it to the island. Regardless, walking out as far as I could was still a great experience. Even with a moody, rainy day, it was magical.
Aimée — Google review
Very cool experience! The walk out to bar island as the low tide occurs is something to see! Lots of cool rocks to hunt for while watching the water recede. Best beware: pay attention to the tide schedule… if you miss your opportunity to get back to mainland, you’re stuck until the next low tide!

Bar Island Land Bridge. This natural exposed sand bar is the name’s sake of Bar Harbor Maine. Timing is everything and the warnings about the incoming tide should be taken seriously unless you want to have an extend visit on Bar Island. Check the local tide information to time your visit. We went at low tide and spent about an hour exploring the bar and surrounding tidal pools. Be ready for the crowds in the summer. This is a major tourist attraction, but there is plenty of space to spread out and explore the bar. We did not venture on to Bar Island. We just didn’t have the time and most of our party was under the age of 10. They were not up for hours of hiking. They were very content searching for shells and unusual rocks. Make sure you wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes. The bar is mostly rock and can be tricky to walk on if you are not careful. The Bar Island Land Bridge is nice entertaining hour to two-hour activity. But don’t go with expectations of experience a quiet peaceful walk by yourself. Unless low tide is early morning.

Lovely visit to the walkway. There is metered (credit card and Park Mobile App) parking along West Street…which is what I opted for. As many visitors know…this walking path is available ONLY during and around low-tide as high tide covers this path. It is recommended that the walking path be taken only 1.5 before and after low-tide. This leaves about a 3-hour window to walk back and forth to the island. (A sign even warns that if you get stuck on the island during high-tide, you have to walk again until low-tide to cross back over…or request a rescue boat to come get you…at the cost of $150.) I do think this time frame is a bit generous as you likely have a bigger window to travel back and forth. That being said…be mindful of the tide times on the day you are visiting. USHarbors.com is a good website for this information. Knowing that low tide was at 8am on the day I was visiting…I arrived to the walkway at about 8:45am that morning…knowing that I had some time to make my short trip back and forth while snapping some photos. Upon my arrival, there were lots of people throughout the path and the path itself was much wider (and dryer) than I expected it to be at that time. I made my way across taking photos along the way. I did NOT venture into the island as it was about 9:20 by the time I made it over. I did make it back to the waterfront around 9:45 and there was still lots of dry land visible. The island does offer some great views of the Bar Harbor waterfront. Additionally, the small puddles left behind from the high-tide make for some great reflections…excellent for photos! The path itself is a mix of small rocks and sand...you don't necessarily need hiking boots but flat-bottomed shoes or flip-flops/sandals may not be very comfortable. There aren't many hills or elevations...so the flat nature of the pathway makes for a fairly easy walk. I would expect some strollers/wheelchairs may struggle in the terrain. I highly recommend visiting while in the Bar Harbor area…a suggestion is to work the walkway visit into a morning (or evening) walk along the waterfront (West Street) toward Agamont Park where there are some great views of the boats in the harbor. There are also lots of shops downtown (only about a block or two inland) to grab a snack or bite.

They post schedule for low tide online, it's easy to find so you know when to come and when to leave so you don't get stranded on the island for 9 hours. It was a fun experience even though we didn't see any sea creatures that day. I'd say it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the island on the flat rocky trail. You don't need any special shoes, it's relatively dry there, just watch your step. I would not say that the view is impressive, but experience is unique.

This experience was nothing short of magical. We came to the land bridge about half an hour after low tide and walked all the way across to the Bar Island and back. We did see all the warnings posted and came back to the same point about 2 hours later and the land bridge was completely covered by water. Low tide and high tide timings are available at the Hulls Cove visitor centre or even by a quick Google search. They are not written anywhere around the land bridge, so be cautious. Parking was very difficult to find so we used the island explorer shuttle and there are no restrooms in this area.

We visited on a Tuesday afternoon in late June 2025. We found a parking spot down by Ells Pier in the public parking lot. We hiked up the street a few blocks to get to Bridge St. The road just leads onto the beach area and you just keep going. It was low tide when we went but the water was very cold. The hike itself is pretty easy and we had a kayaking tour booked for later in the afternoon/evening so we didn't want to go too far. We did get to the other side and looked around a bit but that was about it. We took pictures and the kids and little nephews were playing is the water but not going in deeper than ankles. Also with this being in the afternoon around 2-3PM the sun was right above us and picture taking wasn't great. There were a ton of people everywhere. So you're not going to get any shots without people in. Overall we would visit and try and do this again. We would probably go when it's less popular or maybe when the low tide is really early or really late in the day. Also need more time to explore the island itself. Dogs are allowed but sign asks to remove pet waste, surprised that even needs said. Also bikes are allowed but there is no parking on the Bar and also no alcohol.

The Shore Path in Bar Harbor, Maine is a historic trail that offers stunning views of the Atlantic coast. Built in the 1880s, it starts at Agamond Park near Ellis Pier and winds around much of the island, showcasing attractions like Porcupine Rock and the Bar Harbor Inn. The half-mile gravel walkway provides viewpoints of seaside inns and mansions, with a large boulder left behind by a receding glacier thousands of years ago.
A nice out and back walk. We were there at low tide. It was great to walk along the path after eating.

Beautiful path along the shore. You can walk along the shore and then turn down a few roads that lead you to the main street if you want. We just turned around and came back along the water back to the car. Many old homes to look at, the water is beautiful, benches to rest on. Easy walk and we even saw a porpoise! He was too far out to get any photos, but was fun to catch sight of one while we were walking.

A wonderful stroll on the Bar Harbor shore. There are benches closer to the park and few to none towards the end. It's a flat and at least 5' wide in most parts. There are plenty of places to climb down to the shoreline.
