Kendrick Park is a beloved creekside park in Sheridan, offering a variety of attractions for visitors. The park features summer concerts, a swimming pool, and even resident buffalo and elk at the Buffalo Reserve. Visitors can also explore the historic Kendrick Mansion and enjoy the wooded oasis with tree-lined creeks and grassy areas. The park provides picnic spots, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, tennis courts, and fishing opportunities.
We experienced an absolutely perfect family afternoon at the park! Lots to explore. One can find space for various activities. A personal favorite is enjoying the sounds of the flowing creek combined with birdsongs under one of many shade trees enjoying family, friends, and food! The ice cream stand was not open yet on this visit, but there was a baby buffalo to view on Mother's Day weekend.

We were in Sheriden and wanted a place to walk our dog Nugget. We googled and came up with this park. A very nice park with a creek that runs through it. They also have some cool wood carvings done on old dead tree trunks.
Steven P — Google review
Nice park. Has an ice cream stand that is open seasonally, lots of walking paths, benches to enjoy the scenery, next to a river and streams. Has a playground, bathrooms, and several picnic areas. Has bison grazing area, and I heard a baby bison was there. I did not go see it, though. Near the middle school and a mansion you can visit.
Tami R — Google review
This is a beautiful park with a variety of gathering areas, lots of picnic tables with coverings, a nice playground, and a big creek that runs through the property. I especially enjoyed the ice cream!
Nathan G — Google review
This is a great park. - Building a new swimming pool that should be ready in 2026 - The park has a big open grass area for games and such. - Great toys. Multiple sections of toys for different ages. Different swings and height of slides. - AND it has a stream that runs beside it that is setup for kids and adults to play in. Multiple areas to get in. One area that has sone sand. I do recommend water shoes as the bottom is all rocks. And it has bridge you can walk over. - Has public restrooms. Maybe the best part is the Scoops Icecream stand. It’s all real icecream that was delicious with lots of flavors!! The portions are very generous. And prices aren’t bad. And the servers are very nice. They take a card or cash. Great park. You won’t be disappointed.
Rob S — Google review
Great place to hang out and be with family. Beautiful.
Amanda S — Google review
Kendrick Park is a Sheridan staple! The playground is a good size, has equipment for older kids and younger kiddos. The littlest playground is separate from the older kids playground which is nice so the little dont get trampled as the bigger kids are playing. They also have a place where you can get ice-cream (Wilcoxson's brand), drinks, and small snacks. There is a swimming pool at this park, however it is down this year for a complete overhaul. There is a little creek/ditch where the water is more shallow that kids can play in if you are looking for a water activity. The park is also dog friendly, but does need to be on a leash. There are walking paths which make walking your fluffy one easy. There are restrooms located here as well. They are in a separate building across from the littlest playground. Having the restroom is great to wash the sticky hands (and faces) after the inevitable drips from the cone!

Trail End State Historic Site

Museum

Trail End State Historic Site in Sheridan offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and explore the lavish lifestyle of the Kendrick family during the early 1900s. The estate features a grand Flemish Revival mansion, meticulously preserved with period artifacts and exhibits that provide insight into daily life at that time. Visitors can wander through the 3.8-acre grounds, which were professionally landscaped, and admire the elegant gardens and pathways.
This building was amazing! The size, the woodwork, and the location and view were impressive. Walking in and around the house I couldn’t imagine the time and labor it took to create such an amazing place. And the fact that they almost tore it down in the 60’s. I highly recommend visiting.
Jay D — Google review
Trail End in Sheridan is one of those spots that surprises you even if you weren’t expecting much. The mansion is huge and full of old details that really make you feel like you’re stepping back in time. The gardens are nice for a peaceful walk, and the vibe is relaxed—perfect for strolling around and soaking up a bit of history at your own pace.
Sara M — Google review
The Kendrick Mansion was a fun little detour. The home is in excellent condition and over 95% of the furnishings are original to the home, so it's a great way to see how a wealthy person would live back then. It's also a testament to America and how a young cow hand in his thirties could build something of his life. The grounds are exceptionally well maintained, and it was a nice day for a walk around the grounds and down to Kendrick Park, even though the temperature was in the '80s.
Nathan G — Google review
I highly recommend this site for a visit! As a huge history buff, and teacher, it was the perfect mix of facts and fun. There was so much to look at and secret little nooks that say "open me". The reading was light, easy but so very informative. The check in lady was sweet and knew the history of the building and family well. So many things to take photos of and just absolutely gorgeous.
Victoria P — Google review
It is a nice house, but nothing special. The lady at the desk was very nice and helpful. It is a self guided tour. I much prefer a guided tour of historic houses.
M C — Google review
This was an amazing place. I'm so glad we stopped and took a look arround. I would go back again if I get the opportunity. The furnishings are original to the home and give it an authenticity that I've never seen before. The self guided tour was worth every penny!
Todd E — Google review
This Flemish Revival mansion is a treasure. If you love historic architecture, this is a must see! Self guided, but with informed staff onsite, you can really get a sense of life in this home because of the details on display that are of the family and the era. From basement to third floor, most of the home is accessible. (I would have loved to see the carriage house as well). Sheridan has a treasure in this nearly perfectly preserved home.
Tina T — Google review
Such an intriguing place to visit. My husband and I had our wedding photos taken here and they turned out amazing. Very reasonably priced to use as a venue. It’s also just a cool place to check out if you’re visiting. The grounds are amazing all year round. It’s super close to Kendrick Park too, along the walking path.

History Museums
King’s Saddlery in Sheridan, Wyoming offers a true taste of cowboy life with its extensive collection of Wild West artifacts and memorabilia. The museum showcases an impressive array of items including artwork, saddles, wagons, antique guns, and clothing that vividly depict the history of the region. Visitors can also explore the adjacent Don King Museum for a deeper dive into cowboy culture and western art.
Very cool iconic store with all of your leather, saddle, and roping needs. They even have some beautiful Pendleton pieces and crystal glassware with amazing Wyoming inspired etching. Don't miss checking out the museum out back if you're into saddles. 👢🤠
C C — Google review
Popular for a reason! Really enjoyed the working Western shop and the museum. You need to go to the back of the storefront store, exit the back door, cross the alley into the next building for the museum. Lots to see and learn! Also has a squished penny machine for my fellow collectors.
Natalie K — Google review
The folks here are great. They have everything you need. As promised, here's Norman the zebra striped mustang practicing picking up one of your hats! Thanks gals.
Maggie K — Google review
If you need western/cowboy supplies, you can't go wrong. But the museum... OMG. There as an overwhelming amount to see and read. You could spend hours and still not have read everything. Amazing. A very pleasant surprise since I was expecting a tourist/gotcha shop.
Eric E — Google review
A treasure trove of Western gear, equipment and history. Make sure you go to the back building to see the walls of ropes and extensive array of saddles, and the museum.
Mara V — Google review
Not your usual stop or what you expected, but worth the time. The King family has been in business for many years. This family run shop has primarily horse or co boy related items, but they did have clothing, housewares and gifts available for all family members. There is an adjacent building behind that houses a cowboy museum which is a bonus for anyone visiting. The Don King Museum is worth your time if you are interested in cowboy, western art, leather art, saddles or any horse related.
S C — Google review
Interesting store and an amazing, must see museum. Expecting a small collection in the museum, we were awed by the number of saddles, including some very old ones, photos and other historic items. Be sure to look for the "The Gathering 1883" photograph which claims to include Wyatt Earp, Butch Cassidy, Doc Holiday, Teddy Roosevelt and others. Is it real or is it a hoax?? We spent about 45 minutes in the museum but plan to return as there was just so much to see. Highly recommend if you are in the area. They do request a $2/pp donation which is a steal.
K G — Google review
Fantastic place!!! Don’t miss out on the saddle and rope shop through the alley and the Museum was incredible. If you’re a leather maker they have a lot of history there including Al and Ann Stohlmans tools and workbench and a lot of their original work. The saddle collection is incredible.

Step back in time and experience the charm of the Wild West at the Sheridan Inn, BW Signature Collection. This historic inn, designed by architect Thomas R. Kimball in 1893, boasts individually decorated rooms themed around iconic Wild West personalities. Once considered the finest hotel between Chicago and San Francisco, it was equipped with pioneering amenities such as bathtubs and electric lights.
It's a historic masterpiece! A truly amazing experience. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The building is wonderful and beautifully presented and preserved. Delightful room, with lovely furnishings and a comfy bed. The view of the old steam train was an added bonus. Highly recommend, especially if you are into historic buildings.
David T — Google review
Always superior serious. The liquor is top of the line, and the food is extraordinary. The rooms are beautiful and elegant. And however there is one room man, I believe it to be multiple rooms on the 2nd floor that is haunted by the white ghost of the widow. Y'all love it, experience it, fer yourself
Grey G — Google review
What a cool, historic spot in Sheridan, WY. Only had 1 night here on a business trip, but I can't wait to come back here again. No TVs - sit back and enjoy the quiet. Or talk to your roommates. We didn't get to try breakfast, but I heard it's good. Clean rooms, comfy beds, rustic vibe.
A. A — Google review
My wife and I stayed at the Sheridan Inn again a few nights ago. We have not been to sheridan in about 2 years. I was saddened to see that the young man who took great care of us, Michael, was no longer there. It seems to have gone slightly downhill. Several people were there and no one was offering a tour or giving history of the building. I over her one lady ask the desk clerk and they just said I don’t know, I’ll have to ask. Other than that the experience was good. We love the inn. We stayed at the original inn back in the 1950s on our honeymoon. It’s wonderful that it’s still running.
Harold E — Google review
What an incredible stay! Stepping through its doors is like taking a delightful journey back in time. The architectural details are absolutely stunning, from the grand facade to the beautifully preserved interiors. I loved imagining all the famous figures who once walked these halls, especially Buffalo Bill himself! Every corner tells a story, and the ambiance is just steeped in history and charm. If you're ever in Sheridan, I highly recommend experiencing the unique beauty of the Sheridan Inn. You won't be disappointed!
Kimberly B — Google review
We hosted our wedding reception at the Inn and it was perfect! The venue was able to host many of the wedding party and close family and friends in the hotel and also managed all food and drink. The staff was organized, professional and incredibly helpful to ensuring everything went off without a hitch. Highly recommend hosting an event here!
Trevor T — Google review
We stayed here in Aug and I was so excited. It was only for one night. While at breakfast my husband packed our things. When we got to the next stop that night I realized my pajamas was missing. I called and was told they would check with housekeeping. I gave the name of the lady cleaning our room and everything. These were not just any pajamas, they were a gift to me from my daughter who had just married in Laramie. My heart was broken. I called three times and even left a voice mail with the manager. I loved this hotel and was planning to stay next year again on our trip out west BUT…. I will not do business where they can’t return a call or have a thief cleaning the rooms !!!! I called three times and got a different answer every time !!! Shady house keeping !!! 😢
Carrie J — Google review
First time I have been to this place and was very disappointed with how we were treated. There were 14 of us in a private room, the service was very poor. Only thing decent was our server-he was trying so hard to get our order in, plus the drinks. Water was served without ice! It would have been nice if our server would have had some help. The bill for the night was over $1,500 and we were told that our room will no longer be served! I will never go back and will let everyone know that it is not worth your money and they do not have any respect for anyone. If I could have I would give them a big “zero”!

This place was awesome although again def didn’t feel welcoming vibe from other patrons. The bartender was awesome. She was patient and very kind. We talked a lot about traveling since me and my wife were all the way from Maryland. Also the popcorn with the franks hot sauce was chefs kiss! 💪🏾😊
Christopher E — Google review
Good on Black Tooth for making it big, there’s just been a change in the vibe since our visit a few years ago. Current beer options have veered from the beefy Wyoming flavors of the past, with more wheats, light ales, saisons, sours and sitch, and only one IPA. Maybe it’s just a summer seasonal phase…? Locals definitely love it and trying to draw the server from their conversation to pour us a beer was a drag. The Hot Streak IPA was definitely tasty, but the overall vibe left us with a general 🫤 feeling. Will leave it for the locals next time thru Sheridan.
SouTex T — Google review
Had the Saddle Broc on tap at the Diamond Bar at Devil's Tower. wow, just WOW! Now I have to come up with a reason to go to Sheradin from the Black Hills next week. There are so many great looking beers. And beside that, one of the coolest logos ever.
Ray W — Google review
My husband and I have been regulars at Blacktooth for years — we come just about every Sunday and have always loved the atmosphere, the beer, and especially the service. That’s why today was such a disappointment. We stopped by around 4 PM and found one of the doors locked, no lights on, no pretzels, no popcorn, and absolutely no service. We sat down and waited for a while, but the bartender completely ignored us. After being brushed off and feeling completely unwelcome, we ended up helping ourselves to some water and just leaving. This is not the experience we’ve come to expect from a place we’ve supported for so long. It honestly felt like we weren’t wanted there at all. For reference, Amber usually works Sundays and she’s amazing — warm, attentive, and the reason we keep coming back. Today was the opposite of that. Really disappointing.
Connie G — Google review
Great place for beer had there brown and Amber in can but I had to come for true test. Was surprised that they had a couple seasonal dark beers the coco coa which it smells delicious but I'm not into nitro's but delicious anyways but what really impressed me was The Empress Wich is almost a 12% and the small on the nose you don't smell the alcohol and the taste is very pleasant and easy going love it's chocolate taste
Rolando A — Google review
Good afternoon beers to choose from. BBQ truck was awesome!
Lea C — Google review
Hot Streak is my favorite. The staff is hit or miss and there wasn’t any food options when I was there. The location is great to leave and walk around and enjoy downtown.

Tongue Ranger District and Forest Supervisor's Office

Government office
Nature & Parks
Tongue Ranger District and Forest Supervisor's Office is a stunning mountain recreation area in north-central Wyoming, offering 1,500 miles of trails and various outdoor activities. It is home to the Big Horn National Forest and the Big Horn Mountains, making it a popular stop for road trips between Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore. The Park Reservoir is a serene spot for non-motorized water activities like kayaking and paddle boarding.
Park Reservoir is one of the great beautiful places left. Unspoiled by motorized boats, since they're banned, so it's a great place to do some relaxing kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. Roads are pretty rough getting there but it's definitely worth it.
Jacob G — Google review
I called the Ranger District to get information about accessing and hiking public land. None of the "trail" people were in and the ranger was also out. Many of the trails in this area, funded and maintained by tax money, are inaccessible due to agreements with local land owners. So we're funding the ranger district who are unavailable to maintain hiking trails, which are also unavailable to the public. This ranger district and its employees (when they show up) operate as a subsidy to wealthy individuals.
Andrew M — Google review
I drove through Bighorn National Forest from Dayton to Shell on US 14. The drive is amazing and there are many locations for hiking and camping. I definitely recommend stopping at the Sibley Lake picnic area, as well as the Shell Creek Rest Stop.
Michel H — Google review
This is one out the best treasures in the world it's under looked by ago many people because Wyoming has its national park to but it really is si beautiful and has so many trails for so many different sports and the views and wild life are amazing

Grew up near here and still live spending time in the Bighorns. Access is excellent even to more remote areas (this can lead to more people too though). Plenty of campgrounds and places to explore.

I wanted to stay in the cabin for the duration of my 3 week road trip. I loved it there. Beautiful drive.

Went through the Big Horn at different locations on our way to/from South Dakota. The roads are in good shape, the views are awesome! Ample look out pull offs. Places for snow mobiles, camping, hiking, cycling, rock climbing... Lots to do!

Story Fish Hatchery

Fish farm
Visitor Centers
A very beautiful little fish hatchery in Story, Wyoming. One of our favorite things to do when we travel is to find fish hatcheries and just learn about it. They have lots of different trout that they spawn from this hatchery and there are multiple areas on property you can see different types of fish in ponds and in the hatchery process themselves.
Corey M — Google review
Nice little place to take the kids. Picnic area lots of running water and wonderful scenery. It's attached to a small park well that has a picnic shelter, disc golf course, ballfields and basketball courts. Might be a little hard to get around for those with mobility issues. But you can make it.
Dan S — Google review
The tranquil town of Story is nestled in the mountain foothills between North and South Piney Creeks. The water in the creeks Is ideal for growing fish and fish eggs at Story Fish Hatchery. The facilities have improved drastically and approximate 1 hr tours are quite satisfying, even for those not intrigued by science or biology. STEM TIP: “Bumping” - in this case, being put into motion against a fixed object - is a technique used to sort out non-viable fertilized eggs. The human made conditions of the hatchery drastically improve the chances of the eggs hatching and the fish surviving compared to natural conditions. The agent at the facility who gave us the tour was great and highly knowledgeable - estimating that 30% of the eggs they see are non viable. Enjoy and respect the hatchery as we realize this is where the fish we enjoy catching in public ponds, lakes and water sheds come from!!
S F — Google review
Story Wyoming State Fish Hatchery is beautiful and worth checking out. It mostly broods Golden trout. But there's also brook trout. Big trout in the pond where you can see them up close and feed them pallets. Nice grounds with picnic spots and bathrooms. Little museum about Wyoming fish.

Very informative and well laid out location for the battlefield. Some interesting signs about battlefield archaeology and the views are breathtaking.

Very interesting and sad to think about what happened on both sides of the fighting. Area was solemn and wildflowers were abundant and beautiful. There was a lot of information on the placards that explained what went on. Be sure to see the Fetterman battlefield site and the ft Kearney fort and visitor center

Fort Phil Kearny State Historic Site

Historical place museum
Museums
This 19th-century military outpost is famed for battles between native tribes & the US Cavalry.
I was pleasantly surprised to find this Fort as it was! The folks at the center really took time to help me get a feel as to how the soldiers felt and what they did with their time. The proximity of Ft. PK to the Wagon Box Fight, the Fetterman Massacre, and Little Bighorn can’t be understood until you’re there standing in it. I very much look forward to the day I get to go back and take it all in again.
Jacob P — Google review
There is not much of the fort left. There is a nice visitor center with a very informative movie. It is a good place to get out and stretch your legs and learn a little history. The setting is beautiful.
M C — Google review
Very old fort with a lot of history. The ladies in the visitor center were knowledgeable and attentive. I enjoyed the 12 minute movie about the fort as I never heard anything about it in school. The story itself is sad but the history of how it came to be is interesting to war buffs.
Leah P — Google review
This is a place that every American should visit. The history of this area is part of the history of the creation of the USA. Of course, the Fort and the Visitor Center (under construction. August 2024) provide a lot of information. The Visitor Center has many artifacts from the battlefield that took place here. Overall, a great place to learn part of the country's history.
Rich K — Google review
There are no actual buildings to see. Just the front wall and markers below. If I were just rating that it would be a 2 star, but the museum is really nice and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable so I added a star. Also, the event itself was very interesting so I added another star.
Eric E — Google review
The fort is an amazing piece of history. The museum manager was outstanding. He was friendly and very knowledgeable of the history surrounding the fort. Highly recommend watching the short 15 minute video he provides too. Aside from the fort itself a short car ride away are two other battle sites that Ft. Kearny soldiers fought at.
Patrick S — Google review
The Visitor's Center was extremely well-done. The maps, windows, explanatory displays were all very well done. (Take your kids) But, the very-best part was the wonderful and extremely intelligent host Starr Zabel. (NPS) I've studied quite a bit of Red Cloud's war, but Starr made it come alive with very cogent analyses about how the personal features of the combatants informed the outcomes - and history. Truly a vibrant resource that we should take advantage of and cherish. Thank you Starr!

Went for a lovely walk along this section of the Clear Creek Trail System. It is an easy walk with a well maintained trail. No problems with our little chihuahua he was quite comfortable under foot. The parking area is gravel, and Pup poo bags are available by the entrance signage. There are no playgrounds in this area. Wonderful spot to walk under the lovely canopy of tree tops.

We took a nice 2mile hike, but you can go for 15 miles. The creak is lovely, the trees give you shade and the birds sing you songs.

Tranquility, peace and yet great for the dog too. The path is well worn and easy to navigate. There's really no challenges.

Beautiful trails. Take bug spray.

I really enjoy walking along this path, it's well groomed, although rocky in places. It's beautiful with the creek running along side it most of the way, and I love all the different wildflowers, butterflies and various wildlife.

I recently played at Buffalo Golf Club on Fathers Day, which marked the completion of mine and my son's bucket list to play in all 48 lower states. The staff at this course is truly outstanding, treating everyone like exclusive members. They even went above and beyond by agreeing to mail my son's forgotten range finder to us in Texas - talk about exceptional service!
If u are looking for a fun and beautiful layout this your place. Beautiful scenery. Dan the golf pro is so helpful and willing get you setup for a tee time or a lesson. Tree lined course . Keep it in the fairway and u should have a good day. If u are behind a tree play safe. Enjoy this gem. Buffalo should be proud of this course A+++++

Prices are reasonable, good food, friendly service. I had the grilled chicken bacon sandwich which came with fries which were really good. My friend had the buffalo burger which she said was good as well. She was also happy that they had gluten free buns upon request.

Played this course on Fathers Day, this completed the lower 48 states on mine and my son’s bucket list. Staff is terrific. Everyone treated us as if we were exclusive members. My son forgot his range finder and they agreed to mail it to us in Texas. What service!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

We were in the area doing some astronomy in the dark skies of the Big Horn mountains. We came in to Buffalo daily for lunch and this was one of our stops. A very nice restaurant with a helpful, attentive staff. We both had burgers and fries. Very good lunch. Thanks Buffalo!

I work at a golf course, so I notice the little things. This is an awesome course! Clean tee boxes, well groomed fairways, excellent greens, grass driving range. The fourth hole, par three tee box is spectacular and very challenging. We’ll worth the time and money.
Rosie R — Google review
Beautiful course with many challenging holes to keep you guessing. One of my favorite courses in Wyoming. Although you will find it is rather expensive to play here.
James — Google review
Wow! This is a public course? It was beautiful and well maintained. I rented clubs for 18. Great way to spend the afternoon.
Christina B — Google review
Beautiful views and a challenging course with elevation changes, narrow fairways and thick rough. The course was well maintained and the greens fast. The only real negative was...no beer cart!?

The Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum, located in Buffalo, is a must-visit attraction that offers a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of the area. Named after the town's first pharmacist, it houses an impressive collection of artifacts and artworks that bring to life the region's rich heritage. One notable exhibit is the "She Who Saved Her Brother" bronze statue, which commemorates the bravery of a young Native American woman during a historic battle.
What a great value for the tour of this museum. Very interesting information on the area and a lot of cool stuff to see.
Jenny H — Google review
We stopped stopped in Buffalo just to look around. We went into the museum and we're very pleased with the exhibition. It's not huge, but it was interesting. Took about an hour to see it all. Enjoy
Curt E — Google review
We're always interested in learning history of the town we visit. Jim was a week known pharmacist in town. Thanks to the family for donating his collection and sharing the culture & history. The family donated the collection with the condition that it would be in a museum. The museum is the old library. If you have an hour to see the museum, it's loaded with history.
Danette K — Google review
This was a great museum. The staff was enthusiastic and seemed very proud of the town and the museum. The exhibits were very well done, lots of explanations. It was very interesting and there is a whole lot of cool Western history in this town.
Michael B — Google review
The museum hosted a book signing for us. All the folks there were very friendly and helpful. Also, they have a great selection of western books!
Connie M — Google review
I was told by many people to make sure I went to this museum. It has a lot of good information and is fairly big but I found it to be pricey. I wish the exhibits felt less like an art gallery and more of an immersion into themes. Wyoming has so many wonderful museums and this was the most expensive offering the least new information to me on any particular subject.
Zach T — Google review
One of the best small town museums of the west. Lots of beautiful displays. Great history on the Johnson County War. A definite stop for any tourists in Buffalo.

The Historic Occidental Hotel

Museums
The Historic Occidental Hotel is an elegant 1880s establishment adorned with period decor and antique furnishings. It has a rich history, having accommodated famous figures such as Buffalo Bill Cody, Teddy Roosevelt, Tom Horn, Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, and Calamity Jane. Owen Wister even wrote The Virginian based on his experiences at the hotel. Guests can enjoy live music in the saloon and open mic nights at the restaurant.
First off hotel service and atmosphere is absolutely amazing! Then take a quick right from the check-in desk to the historic saloon. Stefan is the best bartender in town! We are so happy to have met and been served by him. All the staff is welcoming and quick to help you on a busy Thursday night. Look forward to coming back from WA state!
Jesse S — Google review
We stayed at the hotel for two nights. Had a wonderful time. We stayed in the Hemingway room - this had a balcony we loved (picture is from balcony). Beautiful! The atmosphere was the best. The location was excellent. The service was great! We plan on doing this again next year.
Susan C — Google review
We stayed at the Occidental Hotel in Buffalo, WY, after hearing it was a “must-experience” historic gem. In reality, it felt more like a dusty museum that charges admission disguised as a hotel bill. Our late-night arrival was met with zero warmth. The room — fine enough — came with creaky wooden floors, a musty odor, and, surprise, no air conditioning (something you’d think would be mentioned in the booking). The hallways were cluttered with mannequins in gaudy dresses, crowding the space and adding to the odd, stale atmosphere. The real low point was the attitude. There’s an air here that guests should feel honored to stay, rather than the hotel being honored to have guests. When we asked to fill a couple of water bottles for the road, the bartender agreed, then informed us it would be $1 each for tap water from the soda gun. That nickel-and-dime mentality says everything about the hospitality here. The Occidental might rest on its history, but history alone doesn’t make a great hotel. Respect for guests, basic comfort, and a welcoming attitude do — and sadly, all three were missing.
Matthew J — Google review
If you want to be truly immersed in the western experience then absolutely book a stay here. I like how each room is styled as an old west hotel room with their own unique layouts/designs. It's also basically like staying in a museum, there's all kinds of rooms and old west memorabilia to look at. There's also a saloon on the bottom floor. The hotel is in a very ideal location in downtown Buffalo with various shops and restaurants to walk to.
Floating H — Google review
Historical in design and decor. Loved this place. From check in with the "book page reservation" and room key to the theme based suites. A treasure. And if you are lucky enough to be there on a Thursday, the bluegrass jam in the Saloon is a must see.
Jennifer M — Google review
We dropped by to experience the historical hotel and have a drink. The bar server said the famous person she recalls there was Bob Seger and his entire bus load stopping by to eat. He was very polite and came in first to inquire if it was okay for them to eat there. Rare manners.
C W — Google review
We enjoyed a delicious meal at the saloon. Spent time looking at the historic western memorabilia throughout the saloon and the hotel lobby. Am planning a return to stay at the hotel and explore Buffalo further.
Kathy H — Google review
Was truly a unique place to see. However the staff is the absolute unfriendliest we’ve encountered. Walked into the saloon first. 3 employees, no one said a word. Walked into the gift shop- no one. Walked into the hotel the young lady behind the counter completely ignored us. She then got up and walked past us and still ignored us. Not how you should ever treat tourists.

Mountain Meadow Wool Mill is a local wool processing facility that offers tours for visitors to learn about the entire process from the ranchers to the final products. The mill features a gift shop and provides an educational experience with hands-on stages of the wool process, including a video presentation and examples of raw wool from different breeds. Visitors can also enjoy meeting Yarnald the sheep and petting him, making it an interesting stop for both kids and adults on a family road trip.
It was lovely to stop in and check out all yarns! My mom and sister bought beautiful sweaters, I got yarn for my next knitting project, and we all enjoyed feeding Yarnold and Lambert. It was really special for me to be able to buy locally made yarn at the facility where it was processed, made from wool from local sheep!

Very cool place and a convenient stop along i90! The woman at the front desk greeted us and was very welcoming. The self guided tour was inspiring and educational. This is a great local business to support in Wyoming. Highly recommend stopping and checking out; they have a nice gift shop too! Support them if you can :)

This is a very warm and special place. Great wool products made locally. So glad we stopped on our road trip. The kids loved meeting and feeding the sheep.
Connor C — Google review
If going on a Saturday, won't see much for production, but you will meet some pretty fantastic folks that work there. There is a weel created self-guided tour of the production facility. Maybe you can even feed the resident sheep/lambs a tasty snack!
Carrie J — Google review
Really informational and unique small factory of wool, showing you all the process from raw wool until apparel, in video, short description signs and self-explanatory observation from the decks of the working people. This is a good place to visit from kids to adults, to learn more about how this lifelong product arrives from the lands to our shops in the cities, explained in a pleasant and detailed manner. The entry is free and you can purchase some of the products fabricated in here, from garments to oils.
Victor D — Google review
This was a great stop on our family road trip! Very interesting to see the process on the short self-guided tour. The kids loved meeting Yarnald the sheep and petting him. The building is just labeled "Wool Mill" and you need to drive around to the back side to enter the store.
Adam — Google review
Excellent tour! Very cool to see the process. Updated 8/26/2021: They've updated their tour, so now you can feel the different types of wool, see how wool is colored, and a bunch of other stuff! Also, more items in the store. Very Cool!

Museums
Local-history museum displaying fossils, Native American items, weapons & other cultural artifacts.
This was out first visit here and I must say I was not expecting what we walked into. We assumed it was a Rock Museum based on the name. This museum has a bit of everything in it. A lot of history of Gillette and how things use to be. There is a small gift shop and some items throughout are "hands on". We really enjoyed walking through and getting a history lesson. Plus it's free.
Mandi J — Google review
A very good and well maintained FREE museum featuring local and state history. Ranges from information about how and where coal is formed, past native American history and artifacts. Prehistoric life in the area. Good display of period firearms and tools. Excellent movie clips and information about.past and current coal mining practices. If you like history, I highly recommend this stop. Also has many hands- on stations for kids learning experiences

This place is way cool and it exceeded my expectations. TONS of vintage displays including store fronts, a service station, minerals, mining, a model train, telegram station, some really nice cars, trucks, and motorcycles, along with various vintage items like signs, clothing, food, etc. This place is definitely worth stopping at if you are a fan of vintage vehicles or like history from like the 40s-60s. These pictures don't do the place justice - see it for yourself.

We stopped thinking we could take a break from driving for an hour. Funny it takes longer then that to really see the items in the museum. It is great that the have an old soda shop for food when you get hungry. We ordered a 4 cheese grill sandwich and we could have shared it because it was huge. It tasted great! If we come through again, it is a repeat stop. Everyone was very nice and patient with children. Familys need to know that everything has a sign of"do not touch". The one place the kids can touch is in the soda shop. A few games, fun tables and chairs. They also have a lot of the old style candies to share with young families.

Wow, a wonderful car museum in Wyoming! We enjoyed looking at the antique cars such Hudson, Chevy, Mercury, and Ford. The neon signs were very cool. Nice displays of items of the 30s, 40s, and 50s.

Ok, so I'm a connesesour of car museums. I've been to them all over the continent. This isn't the biggest... but it is hands-down, my favorite. Drove by here many times, had a little extra time today so I decided to check it out, I’m glad I did! The museum is packed with cool things to see from a bygone era, mostly the 40’s and 50’s. The cafe is also worth stopping in, I had an old fashioned chocolate malt. It was great.

Can't commend the owner and staff enough! Beautiful place, great bartenders, NO TV's so you can actually socialize. We will definitely be 'regulars' on our antelope hunt next year!

Hands down the best Brewry in the region! Bob, Sam, Rwainer and the rest of the staff are top notch. Friendly environment and they always have something going on. Excellent selection of mead and drinks. A must stop on your travel plans and a popular hang out for the locals. You will be treated as friends and family the minute you walk through the door

We went at the perfect time today, about 5:20pm, where there are a few groups in and a few outside. Right before it starts to pick up for Trivia Night and before the dinner rush. We had a Mead Flight of the four that are on tap and a pint of BL Peach Blonde and a BL Hefe since I prefer beer. Honey mead has a bite, a sweetness and is Very flavorful and not as heavy as wine or beer but high alcohol per volume. We liked the Wild Woman the best with the hibiscus so we bought a bottle. I'm glad there was a burger and salty fries next door. Plus Cornhole in the courtyard. I lost of course. Cheers and thanks Big Lost Meadery for a good time.

This was a great experience. We wanted to try mead and we're not disappointed. Reynie (sp?)was an awesome hostess and set us up with numerous tastings and refined our favorites to something we could take with us as we live about 6 hours away. She also gave us tips on sights to see and other local businesses. Thank you for this great day!!! One of our family treated her to some spoon playing as well. Great time!!!

Great place, beer is ok but great meade. Lady bartender is kind of a wild woman though. She puts cinnamon in beer and talks about how she sells meade in China for $100 a bottle. Haha, whatever lady, maybe slow down on the meade, haha!

I don't get to have mead very often, since we don't have many meaderies back in Pittsburgh. During our trip out to Montana my wife saw a billboard for Big Lost, so we decided to stop. I'm glad we did! We enjoyed everything we tried and we bought a couple of bottles to take home.

I'm on a motorcycle ride from Chicago to San Francisco. Ended up here by accident, at around 2pm. As far as places I've stopped along the way, this is tops. Got a bottle of mead for later, and had the honey soda with a chicken sandwich from next door.

I'm sorry I really tried to give these guys a chance. The first time I ordered food to go from here it was a mess. So I called let them know and said I'll come in and give you guys about chance. The beer is pretty good but the food is awful. NYC style pizza is only famous in New York and it sucks there to. The salads are disappointing at best. Tried their beer bread which was odd to say the least. The staff was very nice but that doesn't make up for the food. These guys are right around their three year mark from what I can tell, it's make or break time hopefully they haven't lost their passion.

Great time! Fun and challenging! I had never done an escape room before and was hesitant when the kids wanted to drag me along..I am so glad I went! 307 was helpful when they needed to be and we all worked well as a team to solve the puzzle and find our way out! Everyone was able to participate and find clues! Can't wait to go again!

Great escape room! Watch carefully for the turn as it kinda just looks like a parking lot. (No room on the big sign and the city won't let her put her own small sign) The kids and I did the escaped spider room and it was fun! Challenging, but we found it in time!

We were visiting from out of state and got a chance to visit Mystery 307 and do the Party to Die For. I had my 22 year old son and two teenage daughters with me. We really thought the theming was great with the 1920s music playing, the flappers dresses, and the way the body was dressed. We thought the puzzles were fun (and some were hard!) We did have to get some help because of the clever red herrings. After we were done, we bought a hoodie, t-shirt, and wooden puzzle that was for sale. The hoodie and t-shirt are designed well with graphics on the front and back. Our hostess was awesome and if we visit Wyoming again, we’d definitely return and do another escape room!
Amy S — Google review
What a great escape room! We are in town for my daughter's swim meet, and we needed to burn some time up the night before. We found 307 online, called to make a reservation, to go figure out a Murder Mystery. We did get a little lost on the way to 307 Mysteries (don't listen to Google when it tells you to turn off of Highway 14, stay on the highway and look for the sign), and I'll be quite honest, with my first born child in the car, I was a little leery about going into an area that looked like we were about to be a part of a real murder mystery. Nothing bad, but it's in a remote and industrial location, but totally safe. Mom and daughter team run the place, and they were super sweet, and we went and did our escape room, with 5 minutes to spare! We had an absolute blast! Next time we're in town for another swim meet, we will be going again! 😎👍

This was a wonderful find that we almost passed on...I'm glad we didn't. We were greeting by a wonderful volunteer who gave us special attention as we learned about the local history of cattle trails in the area. Our daughter loved it and we leanred some insider travel tips that were fantastic! Don't miss this gem!

This museum is a real gem. It has many relevant artifacts, and the staff was very informative. The owners should be proud of what they have done here. This museum does not get the publicity it deserves. Easily could have spent a couple of days there just browsing, asking questions, learning. I will forever recommend it as a place to stop!

Well worth the visit, there's a lot of neat history inside this museum. Friendly curator, good information too.

Keyhole State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Lakeside area for fishing, birdwatching & camping, plus a full-service marina with a general store.
Was very well kept and clean, aside from one of the bathrooms running out of paper, says my old lady. Tent camp sites are a little walk downhill if your at tatanka sites, but your camping so get over it! Lake is quite in the mornings and afternoons with respectable boaters to lake fishing.
Evan M — Google review
Great state park! Clean & well-maintained in a beautiful area. Staff could do a better check of camping cabins as they were a bit dirty but overall a great trip.
Anna — Google review
We spent a few hours at Keyhole State Park, looking for a good place to hike. We hiked around the lake via the Beach Trail and then drove up the road to hike the Little Keyhole Trail over and near the dam. These were both short trails, but made for a nice afternoon excursion.

Visit August 2021, Cabin 1: Beautiful campground with amazing views of the reservoir all around. Very quiet with minimal human or animal noises. It was a bit of a drive (too far to walk) to the showers but very clean and in the open. There was an outhouse nearby that we could use throughout the day. IMPORTANT NOTE: Showers were coin operated. Bring quarters or cash for exchange machine. We stayed in a cabin on the shoreline. Very peaceful and the perfect location to look out at the water or walk the shoreline. We swam at the beach for awhile and were the only people there. The sunsets from the beach were SPECTACULAR! We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this state park! Nearest gas station is a long drive away too. Come prepared with enough ice or build the drive to get ice into your itinerary.
Sarah C — Google review
Great location but super un level gravel campsite, AR08. No power or water but lake access is worth the sacrifice.
Julie J — Google review
Beautiful park with campgrounds. We camped. Arch Rock camping pads didn't seem to be level. But we knew in advance, so we brought extra plastic levelers. It was very peaceful. ✌️
Roni B — Google review
This place is amazing!!! My family has camped here twice and go fishing here. But this was my first and my goodness, nature is a beautiful thing🥰 Try to be careful on where u reserve though. Some designated tent sites are too small if u have a big tent. We were at the Tatanka section. They also have cabins. I highly recommend it here. Also, on a side note, for the bathrooms, they keep them pretty clean and actually smelling good😄
Alex M — Google review
Beach was small and there were lots of weeds in the sand. The kind of weeds that have hard branches that poke through your shoes. The views were beautiful at sunset. The beach was shallow which made swimming awesome! The park itself was weird because we had to take a gravel road for almost an hour to find the park. When we got there, they said you could only book a camp site over the phone or online. We use Roger's phone carrier as we are Canadian and there was no network at all. Eventually they let us book at the toll booth but it took a while to convince them. It was $33 USD to tent camp for one night with no hookups. They have no convenience store anywhere in the park. There is a restaurant at the marina but it was hard to find parking and you would have to walk through a bunch of private cabin trailers to get there. We skipped it. Campsite was quiet and not very occupied. Lots of stars. We stayed at the Homestead campground and there was a firepit, but nowhere to get wood that we were able to find. Cement picnic tables which were way more practical than traditional wood picnic tables.

Devils Tower Visitor Center

Mentioned on
9 lists
Visitor center
The Devils Tower Visitor Center is a charming log cabin nestled in the dense trees at the end of the park road. Built in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, it offers assistance to visitors and features interpretive displays, maps, and Junior Ranger booklets. The center also houses a small gift shop and provides a great view of Devils Tower from its parking lot. Visitors can explore educational exhibits and enjoy clean facilities while taking in the surrounding wildlife.
I have loved this site ever since I was a little kid after seeing the movie Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind. Second trip here and we will definitely return again in the future. Go to the visitor center in the early am before it gets busy. We went on a Monday at 930am and had no issues, but as we left around 1230pm there was a very long slow line to enter.
J W — Google review
Even after seeing 'Close Encounters' many times growing up, seeing Devil's Tower in person was quite amazing. It was fabulous to be there in person, read about how the Tower was formed, and learn about the connection with Native American peoples. We loved the experience of hiking around the base of the Tower on the Tower Loop Trail so we could see the Tower from every angle. The park service created a 1.3 mile paved trail around the base for guests to follow. Be sure to take your time, read the signs, and appreciate the views. Also, look up at the Tower closely as you may get to see climbers making their way up. We saw a number of climbers on the side of the Tower to the left of the "Window" during our early morning visit. Note 1 - RV and trailer parking: The visitor center parking lots are rather small and not made to accommodate longer or larger RVs or trailers. The park has a designated lot just past the prairie dog town where you can drop your RV or trailer. Ask the park staff what the best way is to get to the visitor center if you use this lot. Note 2- Visitor Center: The visitor center is located in a historic building and is relatively small. There are interpretive exhibits in the visitor center and a gift shop. Bring your patience as the spaces can get very crowded. Note 3- Trails: The Red Beds Trail is a second and longer loop trail (2.8 miles) further down the hill that also circles the Tower. We hiked the trail from the campground and made the entire circuit. It took us a little over 3 hours, including our time at the visitor center.

Worth the travel, the Devils Tower is truly majestic in person. The hike around it is not too tiring and manageable, offering numerous breathtaking views. It’s an enjoyable and fun experience. If you’re a fan of national parks, it’s a must-visit.

Our family was up this way for a reunion and HAD to make a day trip to see Devil's Tower. While there, we stopped by the visitor's center and got many souvenirs. My daughter had brought a suitcase full of Webkins, which was stolen at a rest stop just after crossing into South Dakota, and that included many of her favorite stuffed animals. So when we stopped by this visitor's center, and she fell in love with a Pookie Stuffed animal there, I had to get it for her. We took a hike around the tower, where I took some pics I'm dropping below. I was struck by the indian prayer bags on trees there. But we had gotten all the way to Hwy 24 when my daughter exclaimed that she'd LOST her Pookie! I had to turn the car around, driving back to the visitor's center, sure that I'd have to buy another one. But the kind folks at the visitor's center had found Pookie, and had him waiting for us when we arrived back. I didn't have to show a receipt or anything, they remembered us. I'll never forget it.

Very small parking area but no problem finding parking midday. Bathrooms were surprisingly clean! The grounds still looked taken care of. Shame that someone stole the passport stamp the staff left outside the visitor center for us visitors to use. Lots of pull offs and a nice area to pullover and see the prairie dogs (close to the entrance).

Tower Trail is the trail you’ll want to do to get as close as possible to Devils Tower. it is a loop around Devils Tower. this loop is the most popular thing to do in the park. This trail is pretty easy and gives you some great views of the tower. If you want to truly be quick and not hike the whole 1.3-mile paved trail, then you will want to start off the loop going LEFT when you are starting from the visitor center. (There is a spot once you start the trail where there are seemingly 2 ways to go, straight and to the left.) Then soon you will see the massive Devil's Tower in front of you. but I would recommend doing the whole tower trail (just 1.3 miles) it will give you different angles of Devils Tower. it is the only trail that is paved. However, do remember that climbing on the rocks isn’t allowed without a permit so stay off of the boulders.

Devils Tower National Monument

Sights & Landmarks
Devils Tower National Monument, the first national monument in the United States, is a significant landmark nestled in the Black Hills grasslands. Soaring nearly 900 feet, this climbable rock formation is renowned for its unique geological patterns and rich history. Sacred to Native American tribes, it has become a prime destination for rock climbers, hikers, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. The site's regulations ensure proper management and protection while allowing public access to experience this remarkable geological wonder firsthand.
Cool place to stop. There are two trails around the tower. One shorter (45min-1h) on a paved surface and the longer one. The visitor center has cool data and a small shop. It also has water to refill the bottles and flush bathrooms. You can use the National Park Annual Pass to enter for free.
Ana M — Google review
Accessible for all, no hike needed unless you want to. The easy 1.6 miles loop around the base have amazing views. Nice scenic drive with red rocks, hay bails and longhorn cows.
Lisa C — Google review
Getting up to the parking lot took an hour because there's a stop light at the bottom of the hill that filters how much traffic gets to the top. Of course this is after you've already entered into the park, so if you turn around and leave you would pay to have seen nothing. This is an easy attraction to visit once you get to the top. There is a walkable trail, and lots of parking. Or benches looking at it if thats more your speed. The visitor center has many collectable items as well as a self guided tour of history. You can sign up to climb it, just remember what you are climbing and that it is sacred ground.

Devils Tower National Monument completely blew me away. Seeing this massive rock formation rise out of the rolling hills is absolutely awe-inspiring. Pictures don’t do it justice; you have to experience it in person to appreciate how majestic and otherworldly it feels. The trails around the base are fantastic, well-marked, scenic, and full of viewpoints that show off the tower from every angle. The park is clean, well-maintained, and easy to explore. Whether you’re hiking, taking photos, or just soaking in the view, Devils Tower is a must-see. Truly one of the most unique and powerful natural landmarks!!

Everyone will have their own experience as it will differ from person to person. I had a surreal and profound one, visiting this enormous monument also called as Mato Tipila. There are two trails, Tower and Red beds trail. I would recommend doing the tower loop trail as it circles close to the tower. There are some amazing Lookout points once you’ll finish about 3/4 of the loop going clockwise. Do check out the visitor center / gift shop and learn about all the different folklore regarding how the tower was formed. Since the shutdown is in place, there was no entry fees, but otherwise I believe it $25. -Do keep an eye out for the climbers as that will give you an idea of how big the tower is and also how stupid and audacious humans are to mess with everything that is out there irrespective of the fact that some places have spiritual importance and hold deep relations to some tribes. I did not stay for the night, but I’m sure the sky would be very amazing to watch during the night time. If you are into stargazing/Milky Way then then you should go for it. Do check the weather before your visit as it can change within minutes While I was there, twice it snowed a little bit, and then the sun came out as well. A couple of nearby spots that you can also visit are the Prairie dog town and wind circle sculpture. I visited those places on my way back to Rapid City. Hope this was helpful.
Nishant P — Google review
Beautiful small park with million dollar views and fantastic trails. Takes a couple of days to hike them all unless you are really energetic, but there is a nice campground right in the park so you don’t even have to leave. Personally I would avoid the overcrowded (and slippery) paved trail from the visitors center. The Red Bed trail, although longer, gives much better views and is much less crowded.
Amanda M — Google review
This is my favorite place in north eastern wyoming! Its only about an hour and a half from Rapid City. If youre visiting mount rushmore and skipping devils tower, what even are you doing? There is a very easy hike around the base of the tower, where you can see the full 360 degrees of it, and gasp at the crazy rock climbers! Theres also tons of prarie dogs and deer here! It is NOT pet friendly. And that isn't to be mean to dogs. There are porcupines here and the closest vet is over an hour away. It is NOT pet friendly for the safety of your animals, not for the annoyance of you. Please leave your dogs at home or in your camper, or skip the hiking trail. There is RV parking here! And camping near and around here! It is very family friendly. The hike around the base is easy and short, even the newly walking will enjoy it, and when they want mommy or daddy to carry them you dont have a terribly long way to do so *exclusive to the time im writing this, the visitor center is open amid the government shut down. The book store is owned by a non government entity and is sponsoring the center being open*
The N — Google review
An absolutely stunning place — even more impressive in person than in photos. The tower rises out of the landscape in a way that doesn’t look real, and the surrounding trails give you incredible views from every angle. The main loop is easy to walk and well-maintained, with clear signage and plenty of spots to stop for photos. Rangers are knowledgeable and friendly, and the visitor center is small but informative. It’s peaceful, scenic, and carries a sense of awe that sticks with you long after you leave. A must-see stop if you’re anywhere near northeast Wyoming.

Located near the iconic Devils Tower National Monument, also known as Bear Lodge, is the Wind Circle sculpture. This 12-foot sculpture was created by Japanese artist Junkyu Muto and is situated at the base of rolling hills near the monument. Crafted from white marble, it features an open center and is surrounded by a small sitting area. The design of the Wind Circle represents peace and harmony, drawing inspiration from rising smoke.
Less crowded. Can also view prairie dogs here.

Visitors can expect a spacious parking lot with stunning views but should be prepared for potential crowding during peak times.
SO. MANY. SOUVENIRS! I mean they have just about everything you could want. This being one of the hottest trails for people riding motorcycles they have a lot of stuff related to motorcycles. I bought a few of the regular small souvenirs that I always get at places and I feel like the prices were fair or comparable to what I’ve spent other places. They have all kinds of stickers, patches, shirts, hoodies and just so much more. There is another shop across the road but they don’t have near as much to choose from as this place does.

Cool store full of every kind of souvenir you can think of related to the Devils Tower and aliens. If you can put either one of those things onto an object and sell it, this place has it.

Restrooms were closed and they had a weird song about men being neutered playing. Will not be back. In response to the owner: I am not "sabotaging" your business by writing an honest review. If that is your response that is concerning. I came in with a group of three others. We were looking to use the restroom and browse around. The hall to the restroom had a rope across it and it said restroom closed. The song playing overhead was county and the lyrics were mentioning about men getting spray tans and men being neutered. Would it be better if I had the other members of my group write reviews as well? Upon looking further it appears that for every low review your response is "all lies!" and "not true" and "sabotage". That is how businesses stay stagnant. Would not recommend this place to anyone! The place across the street had the restrooms open and no strange music playing. Also, as you can see, the owner does not take criticism well.

Great dive bar! Seven of us rode in and planned on having a few cocktails. We were greeted by a rude bartender when we asked for a seltzer. He told us "this is a real bar, we don't serve foo foo drinks. He told us to go to Amigos for all that stuff. I sure hope they're affiliated with Amigos because why would he tell us to go to another establishment.
