Holiday Valley Resort

Ski resort
Nature & Parks
Holiday Valley Resort in Ellicottville is a versatile destination for outdoor enthusiasts. While it's known for its winter sports, the resort offers activities year-round. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, visitors can enjoy golfing on a par-70 course, mountain and e-biking, and chairlift rides to Spruce Lake during the summer. The resort provides various lodging options including cozy stays at the Inn at Holiday Valley or luxury condominiums at Tamarack Club.
Holiday Valley Ski Resort exceeded all my expectations! From the moment we arrived, everything was smooth and well-organized. The staff was super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed for a great experience. The best part, though, was the snow—there was tons of it, and the conditions were perfect for skiing and snowboarding. Fresh powder made every run smooth and enjoyable, and the trails were well-groomed and clearly marked. There’s a great mix of trails for all levels, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skier. I loved how easy it was to switch between more challenging runs and the relaxing, scenic routes. The lifts were quick and efficient, so we barely had to wait in line, even during peak hours. Off the slopes, the resort offers cozy lodges with good food and drinks, perfect for warming up after a long day outside. I also appreciated the friendly vibe from both the staff and other guests—it felt like everyone was just there to have a great time. Overall, Holiday Valley is a fantastic destination for anyone who loves winter sports. I’ll definitely be coming back soon, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and memorable skiing experience!

This was my first time ever skiing, I took 1 lesson just to get the hang of it and at the end I was skiing on blue! (And I also now know what blue means 🤣) I'm an au pair and came here with my wonderful host family every year, I highly recommend this place. So sweet and homely, and really nice slopes. Also mini hot chocolates!! :D
Thea B — Google review
If you read my reviews you'll see that I rarely rate anything 5 stars, but I feel like with our families experience there... I just have to give them the credit! The staff was absolutely a pleasure to deal with. We had great experiences getting outfitted with the rentals and the high performance rental shop really dialed me in for a fantastic ski day. My wife and youngest son had an hour private lesson in the morning, and that was all they needed from never skiing to be able to enjoy the rest of the day with myself and oldest son. I was blowing fresh powder ALL DAY long and we thoroughly enjoyed the different levels of runs to choose from. It has something for anyone and everyone I feel like. The people we came across on the slopes were all friendly and enjoyable to talk to. The staff was helpful with the little guy getting onto the lifts and really just all the way around. We even stopped for lunch at the bottom of the hill. The complementary hot cocoa really just set the whole experience to perfection. It was an enjoyable meal with gr at service. Not only that but getting to thaw out and dry our gloves made the second half of the day that much more enjoyable. I really can't say enough good things about our experience to be honest. The worst that happened was getting stuck in a white out on the way home and doing 20mph on the highway because conditions were so bad and traffic wouldn't move. The mountain top experience was the best we could have asked for!

Gorgeous place outside of Buffalo. We enjoyed the mountain coaster and gem mining. Perfect spot for fall festivities

We’ve come to Holiday Valley for quick day trips and have had a wonderful day each time. Even during a busy week, we didn’t feel the crowds and felt there was plenty of space on the lifts and runs. Aside from the nice variety of runs, one thing that stood out to my family is that Holiday Valley is filled with the kindest staff! Everyone we spoke with couldn’t be more helpful. Really great place and would love to spend more time next visit,
Margaret M — Google review
My son Lucas, visiting from Florida, and I had an amazing weekend at Holiday Valley. Even with a bit of icy weather on Saturday, the resort's commitment to providing excellent conditions shone through. The overnight snowfall and the diligent grooming team made Sunday's skiing absolutely perfect. It was a memorable father-son adventure, and Holiday Valley made it truly special.
Lou C — Google review
So much fun the rooms are beautiful and comfortable the pool is awesome.Well maintain the staff is very friendly
Sue H — Google review
I have been coming to Holiday Valley for about 15 years now, and I absolutely love it. There are so many pluses to this place. There are a great number of runs and it's quite a stretch from one end to the other, so it often doesn't feel as busy as it is because everyone can spread out across the resort. Almost every lift has runs of all three levels terminating at it, so if there are varying skill levels in your group, everyone can split off, do a run they're comfortable with, and then meet back at the lift. They get great snow, there are multiple lodges and warming huts to hang out at, staff are friendly, the majority of the runs are open for night skiing, there are awesome events, the town is a blast, I could go on and on! Love this hill.

Neat place! The wife and I added this to our list of destination rides a couple years ago, and finally made it happen this past week. Roughly 230 miles one way, and a weekend adventure later, I'm glad we did it. It's always nice to get a taste of some history that's local to your state.

First time I visited the Zippo /Case Museum & Flagship store with my friends. Very nice store with a lot of various zippo lighters with unique colors and designs! Zippo and Case clothing! Museum part was incredible awesome and history of zippo and history of Case are quite interesting background history. Case knifes are great quality ones get from what I have heard. Great place to visit in afternoon ! Definitely recommend this place to anyone !

We went there about a year ago...and it was closed for a water main break. So we tried it again today. It was a pretty impressive museum. Lots of history to look at and read. Gift shop. I'd go again! It was packed. Lots of other folks had the same idea. It's free to enter.

An interesting museum that takes you through the timelines of zippo lighter and knives. A well curated free museum in Bradford to enjoy the story of Zippo. There is an attached store in case you want to grab a souvenir on your way back.

This is very cool! Plan to go every year when we are here. Lots of information to take in. It's one of the most affordable museums to go to.

8-22-2025 - So my hubby had a couple of #zippolighters from his young adulthood era. One has bugged him for decades because it stopped making the tell tale sound when the #zippo lighter is opened. So he did a bit of research and found that you can send them back to the maker for repairs because they guarantee them for life for workmanship. Now, that doesn't mean where you've dropped, dented, kicked around, or otherwise abused them. That's on you. Strictly workmanship. So he packaged them up, filled out the paperwork, and sent them off for repairs. He is anxiously waiting on their return ....... more to come 8-25-25 Received email acknowledging the receipt of the antique zippo lighters. They 4 to 5 weeks to repair or replace. Fingers crossed, they will be able to repair the lights of my youth..... More to come 8/26/25 He has heard back from #Zippo, they have made the repairs and they will be shipping back soon. He can hardly wait to get them back. 8/29/25 - So excited, package received with my zippo lighters! They replaced both inserts with new ones and they fixed the hinges and gave me back the patented zippo click! It appears they cleaned and buffed the casings too! My hubby is so happy with #Zippo! ❤️&follow for more places to visit and enjoy! #Zippo #Case #SWFLeats #EatPlaySWFL #EnjoySWFL #EnjoyFlorida #leecounty #leecountysouthwestflorida #ExploreFlorida #ExploreSWFlorida

I wish I had kept my old zippos. I do have a very vintage knife. It's a leisure self guided tour. Lots of merchandise for sale. You can actually see the employees working in the lighters. Get there before 3. That must be quitting time.

Kinzua Bridge State Park

Mentioned on
3 lists
State park
Nature & Parks
Kinzua Bridge State Park boasts a stunning skywalk and observation deck located on the remaining towers of a historic railway bridge that spans over a gorge. This attraction is listed as a bucket list item for many, thanks to its breathtaking views and rich history. The visitor center is impressive, and the staff are friendly. Located in Pennsylvania, this state park offers visitors an opportunity to experience the area's fascinating past.
Kinzua Bridge is a really nice location to walk on top of the bridge and see some good views of nature. It is a great place to get some amazing photography of the colors changing in the trees if you go at the right time of year! There are also some hiking trails that you can explore that lead to the parts of the bridge that the tornado did some damage to. There is also a cool gift shop right beside the bridge. The people who work there really seem to take good care of the place.
M-L O — Google review
Enjoyed my visit to the Kinzua Bridge State Park a great deal. We had a good fall day. We visited the visitor center (excellent helpful staff) and walked along the bridge (that remains). We then walked a nearby trail loop before heading down to the valley floor and the wreckage caused by a F1 tornado in 2003. The track down to the valley floor was steep but we managed OK and was well worth it. The valley floor has a beautiful stream and it is interesting to get up close to the wreckage. A unique experience. The climb back up was hard but on reflection easier than expected; arguably easier than the walk down. Writing this review the next day I can confirm some soreness in leg muscles.
Stephen M — Google review
My passion lies in exploring historical antiquities and gaining insights into the past before these elements fade away. I often contemplate the experiences of individuals who achieved remarkable feats throughout history. The Kinzua Bridge, for example, is a testament to human triumph and is rich in historical significance. This bridge is truly a must-see destination, offering a spectacular view of the valley and an impressive height.
Joe L — Google review
Always wanted to visit in Fall. Finally made it yesterday! Little bit late for the colors but still beautiful! Great visit center with nice friendly staff! Great information is inside building! Great view area and the overview bridge are great views! May come back next summer!
Jane Z — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous views. The Visitor Center has a lot of interactive displays and exhibits. Workers are nice and courteous. Little Sister's Big Rig has super delicious food. The Elk burger was the best burger I've had in a long time.
Ashleigh F — Google review
Love this place. Me and my wife had a great time even tho they are doing work on the bridge. Removed the tracks and the glass at the end you can’t see down do to the work going on. But still a good time
Maddog4x4 — Google review
If you haven’t been here what are you waiting for!? Stunning views and awesome for sunrise and sunsets. Plenty of walking trails and areas to just stand and admire Mother Nature. Walk out to the end of the observation deck and get a full view of the valley floor bed below both East and West. No matter what this is a wonderful place to visit. There are walking trails to check out the floor bed below. And little areas to enjoy your lunch or a snack. I do recommend wearing a hoodie or something a little warmer if you get cold easy during September months and beyond. (Always check the weather). 10/10 this needs to be on your destination stop.
Joshua K — Google review
The ride out here was very fun, I’m currently trying to ride around to all 10 of the PA wild locations as they are all very unique. The views here are incredible. I even got to watch a storm roll in. I would love to come back in the fall and hike the lower trail. The visitors center is very informative. I liked all the history behind this site. Even though the bridge is currently under some rehabilitation it’s hardly noticeable and you’re able to see everything.

The Johnstown Inclined Plane, located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, is a 19th-century funicular that offers scenic panoramas and serves as a significant tourist attraction. It is listed on the Register of Historic Places and recognized as a Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark. The site features a visitor center with detailed information about local attractions and showcases the city's history through pictures and 3D models.
Wow, ole' lady sick not able to be here! Vidio of train and all too much ! Hope she gets a chance to see it in person ! Not running but still a place to find ! The observation deck made me woozy SPECTACULAR
Eugene S — Google review
Historic, beautiful and uncommon would be a few words to describe this local gem. The staff is also notably friendly , knowledgeable and courteous. The views from the top are stunning. There are also a nice gift shop and evening restaurant at the summit.
Anthony C — Google review
Riding the plane is rather inexpensive. They run roughly every 15 minutes, although I wish hours of operation started earlier. Mountain bike trails are easily accessed from the top, ride bikes down and ride the plane back up. The bottom, however, requires you to carry your bike up through a very narrow passage and stairwell. If you are running bars over 700s, it's very tight, and difficult for children. I had to carry my bike up, then go back and carry my sons bike up. The trails are pretty technical and I wouldn't advise a novice, especially a novice child, ride them. The trails require ability to control your descent and handle tight turns. The lower section of trail is mich easier for a beginner.
D. M — Google review
Very cool experience with great views of the town below. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Finding the right place to park at the bottom is a bit of a challenge but certainly worth taking the time to do.
Cindy A — Google review
Great history behind the incline plane.
Robin T — Google review
Don't fear it, it's really not a bad ride! Although this incline is steeper than the ones in Pittsburgh, it's a much smoother ride. I generally have weak knees if I'm even three stories high somewhere, but I was stepping out of my comfort zone to ride it and it wasn't bad at all! It was a very smooth ride and it even still transports vehicles both ways. I wish we'd have started at the bottom and put the car on to get to the top. The platform outside is a great view and from inside the gift shop you can see the mechanics of it (as pictured here).
Jeanie P — Google review
This place is awesome and a must see, worth a day trip (but make sure it's during the open season). I live in Pittsburgh, a few blocks from the Duquesne Incline, which I ride often, and this one in Johnstown is a gem! It was closed when I visited and I absolutely will return when it's open. So, a little known day trip you can take, from Pittsburgh to Altoona, will allow you to see 5 inclines, 4 of which you can ride. The Duquesne and Monongahela inclines in Pittsburgh, Johnstown inclined plane, Allegheny Portage Railroad, then the mini incline at the Altoona Curve. Enjoy 😉.
Greg K — Google review
The inclined plane is under construction so you currently can't ride it or get to the viewing balcony. I think you can possibly go into the restaurant at 4pm and after for a view of Johnstown.

DelGrosso’s Amusement Park and Laguna Splash Water Park

Temporarily Closed
Amusement park
Water & Amusement Parks
Expansive attraction featuring rides, a water park, carnival games, mini-golf & go-karts.
What an awesome day! This amusement park is perfect for families with young kids — tons of rides, a fun water park area to cool off, and everything felt clean and well-run. The Italian food really surprised us — great portions and flavor at very reasonable prices. I used to come here as a kid, and now being able to bring my own kids back feels special. It’s still just as magical. A full day of fun, food, and memories — we’ll definitely be coming back!
Chris R — Google review
Im not sure where to begin with all of the positive things about this amusement park honestly! It is very very clean! And I dont mean like your basic clean, I mean that there was not a SINGLE piece of garbage laying ANYWHERE the entire park. So, for the description of it, its not very large in comparison to other amusement parks. Its more like an extravagant carnival that stops through your town once a year. But not in a negative way by ANY means! Its wonderful! There are lots of games to play and win prizes, there are many many rides that are super exciting, and there is one roller coaster. They are all super fun and the wait time is minimal! I went during the end of the year so unfortunately for me the water park was closed 😭 i can't wait to go next year and see how that is!!!! They even have dippen dots here!!!🤤 there are many different types of food to choose from. There is a gift shop full of neat things as well! I easily spent 300 dollars in there. No regrets. There is also a section full of rides for smaller kids! There are in fact hight restrictions in that section tho! You CAN be too tall to ride them. But that is perfectly fine, let the little ones have something for themselves, you know? Honestly, all in all I give it a 10 out of 10. Its clean, fun, has MANY things to experience, oh and I forgot to mention that its not extremely expensive either!! We brought 6 people and it cost 30 dollars to get in because they were having a sale/deal. It was a score 😊 I have ADHD so its difficult for me to stay on point. Oh well. I think I mentioned everything! Im absolutely going again next year 😊
Anna S — Google review
Del Grosso's was fun! We particularly enjoyed the wave pool and the lazy river. The water park has more for bigger kids than the regular park, in my opinion. It was great that there were next to no lines for the rides in the non water side. My child really enjoyed the Crazy Mouse. Recommend for a relaxing family outing.
Amy L — Google review
Very clean, good amount of lifeguards. Wheel chair access. More kid friendly! Make sure you put your walking shoes on! No googles on slides either I didnt read that any where online but thats okay you stay on the tubs for the most part.
Ashley K — Google review
It's 38.00 for a all day ride and slide pass however between both parks there is not a lot to do. They dont have enough rides we had a hard time spending 5 hours there. We drove from Ohio and was a little disappointed. Now they do have a nice kitty land for littles but for older kids you have maybe 5 good rides out of the i think 8 rides. They seemed to be on top of their ride safety kicking ppl off rides that can't follow directions and would cause a potential accident. The park isn't bad but definitely wouldn't make the trip for 38.00 a person. If they had more rides for older kids absolutely! For what they have to offer their all day ride and slide passes should be 20.00 bucks because not many people could spend a whole day there with the same 8 rides same 3 water slides. They have a kids pool play area, a lazy river, and a wave pool and we maxed out a 5 hours that was 3 adults and a small child.
Jamie B — Google review
Took the grandkids, we all had a blast! We did rides on the amusement side first, then lunch & the Waterpark in the afternoon. They especially loved the wave pool. I love the lazy river. The staff is so amazing & friendly.. We're definitely doing it again next summer! At least twice!
Avis B — Google review
Harvestfest is my favorite. The park is close to us and we often go throughout the summer... I don't love that they went cashless as I'd prefer to just give my kids $20 and call it a day.. so imagine my happiness when this sign was at the entrance last weekend.. CASH ONLY!

We decided to take a daytrip to the park which had been on our bucket list for awhile. It's a nice, small park with what I would call some "mini" rides, definitely geared more towards kids. We liked the fact that there was free admission if you were not riding since I cannot do rides that spin. The closest thing to a roller coaster is the wild mouse type ride. We were excited to try all of the food since we heard some of it was amazing. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The pizza was just ok, did not care for the potato salad, the pasta was overcooked and I'm guessing they use their jar sauce and the philly cheese steak barely had any cheese whiz on it. I will say, though, the food prices were very reasonable. It was to chilly to go to the water park which looked really fun. Tons of things to do there.

Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Scenic 2,375-foot section of railway line open since 1834 accessed by funicular & 194 steps.
We came for the Rail Town Throw Down car show and to check out the famous horseshoe curve. It’s a very cool Place to check out, especially for history buffs, train enthusiasts, etc. The incline tram up to the tracks is not currently in use, but you can walk up the steps after you pay to go in the museum. It was 194 steps to the top. The museum had very informative displays and a movie theater with various films on the history of the curve. The parking lot is also a great spot to watch the trains and to check out the awesome cars at the show. The trains rolled through all day.
Rebel C — Google review
Very interesting place to visit. The museum was put together beautifully. The area was well maintained and had plenty of parking for cars and large vehicles. Be ready to walk up some steps to the top (118 exactly), but we'll worth it. There is a tram but isn't working at this time. They did offer a discount due to the tram not operating. If in the Altoona area , worth the look, especially when a train comes through.....
Bruce T — Google review
What a great place for a railfan - or engineere - to visit. Only had an hour but still saw four trains trundle by. The view from the observation area of the reservoir is spectacular. Will be back when we can spend the day. Only drawback was the funicular was not in operation this trip, so 194 steps up it was!
D.B. F — Google review
Informative museum and great views of Horseshoe Curve. 4 stars was only because the tram was inoperable and 194 stair steps could be daunting; otherwise a 5 star experience. We saw an Amtrak passenger train, 2 freight trains (different directions), and a 4 engine helper engine group on a beautiful sunny Friday morning.
Cathy N — Google review
Really cool place to visit, especially if a train comes along. We were lucky enough to see two trains at once, each going in different directions. The horseshoe curve means you can see the beginning and the end of the train, I believe about a mile long. And the trains blow their horn as they go by. There's also a nice little museum with the history of the area and the train tracks, and a gift shop. There are stairs to climb, but it wasn't difficult. There is a little tram with boxcars that goes up the hill but it was not operating when we were there.
Elizabeth L — Google review
Its really not that great of a paid experience! They should really use the money they make to cut the tree line down so you can actually see the the entire curve and fix the grounds up. Alot of the signs about the history need to be fixed. The museum was nice but thats about it. You can only see a small part of the curve because its blocked by trees and vegetation. So not worth the money. Also- the incline plane was shut down, which we did get a 20% discount for it not working but still 🙄 Climbing stairs to see 1/4 of the curve should be a free experience. Not worth almost $50 for a family of four. I mentioned this to the worker and she said the railroad company owns the land on the opposite sides of the curve and they are responsible for cutting that down and it hasn't been done in over 5 years. Still on grounds the trees could be trimmed. Save your money!
Michelle — Google review
The machine that takes you up to see the train, was broke. And I can't walk up 200 steps to see it. They should probably put that on the website. And since I wasn't a paying customer, I couldn't use the restroom. And we were about 2 hrs from home. So I sat in the car and my husband went up. The pics were from down below. I don't think it's a big of deal then they make up on the website
Sheryl P — Google review
Pretty cool place to stop. The museum is interesting abd it gives some history about the railroad. There is a nice view from the top of the stairs. It is a good place to watch trains.

This was an absolutely amazing experience! Our tour guide, Cindy, was so kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and polite. She made the tour extra fun! The gift shop is awesome as well. This was my daughter's first time visiting caves and my second. It was so worth it!

So freaking cool! We stumbled on Lincoln Caverns during a road trip and it ended up being one of the highlights of the trip. We were the only ones on the tour, which made it even better. The caverns are clean, well-maintained, and just fascinating to explore. Our guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and even added some funny anecdotes along the way. Definitely worth a visit!

Awesome Experience !! Our guide , Matt, did Lincoln Caverns a great service in his representation for them. Very knowledgeable and informative. From the history of Lincoln Caverns down to it's many nuances of the different structures we were seeing. Answered all of our questions and yet kept the pace of the tour moving. Excellent tour guide ...Excellent experience !!!!

Had a nice time touring the caverns. Our guide was Sylvia, she did an outstanding job and was very knowledgeable about the caverns and the formations. There is a nice gift shop and they have snack bar and restrooms. All of the employees seemed very pleasant. I will definitely recommend this place to visit if you are in the area. There are actually two caves to visit. Stop in, I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

The tours move along quickly and wait times are short. We'll kept place clean and fun for the family. We traveled from Ohio to see it. Was not as big as I expected but still beautiful and amazing. The girls had fun and so did my boy.

Great little spot! We liked that there were two caverns to explore. Our guide, Jon, was very knowledgeable and interactive. He even got our kids involved. Great gift shop too! We'll be back I'm sure.

Made multiple trips back and forth from Delaware to Ohio, finally stopped and took a tour. FANTASTIC! Jen led the workshops beautifully. Soaked up the information and then took to the caves! Sadly, my wife and I can't recall our tour guides name (tall lanky kid with longer hair). He was absolutely wonderful and passionate about what he does and very informative. The trip sparked interest in seeing more. Wonderful gift shop too! Little bit of everything for everyone.
Brit E — Google review
Worth your time! Our guide was outstanding. This is a fun cavern (there are actually 2) the history of how it was found and water levels over time are interesting! If it has been raining, a light rain jacket and shoes that can get wet would make you more comfortable. But not a big deal without either :) edited review to add that the gift shop is FULL of nicely labeled gems and so much more!

I appreciate the opportunity to see the craftsmanship from previous centuries and appreciate their artistry and the hardships they faced. I hope those my age and younger who live in the area will reconnect with the history being shown here to preserve it for future students and continue to reinterpret it as we learn more about our past.

My aunt used to bring me here when I was young and I thought it would be a great place to bring my niece to show her something new we had so much fun. They had people walking around dressed in the times telling us about the past and who they were and what significance they had in that time. The staff is so nice and they love showing you there trade and teaching you about what they are doing. It's definitely a cool place to take your children for a fun learning day. We didn't habe to wait at all to get in and it is very affordable 👌

Great example of period housing. We need to stop going mid-week and visit these places on the weekends so more people are there to explain stuff. I love how the buildings were condensed in one area so it was easy to walk around and see all the buildings.

We stopped by this place while on a long back roads road trip. Even though we spent a few hours here, we could have spent much longer. There is so much to see. It was quiet, not a lot of people which is nice, however there weren't many 'period' people either around to talk to about the history.

Cemetery
Gettysburg National Cemetery is a solemn resting place for 3,512 Union soldiers and was dedicated in 1863 with Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The area offers a glimpse into the challenging conditions faced by soldiers during the Civil War, carrying heavy loads and enduring harsh elements. Visitors can explore the roughly 3-mile Gettysburg Trail, a paved walking trail that connects the Visitor Center to important battlefield locations, offering serene woodland surroundings and welcome shade on hot days.
Another National Park Service outstanding property. Rich in history and scenic beauty, this is a must visit when in the area. Nice paved parking lots on both sides of the property. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. I had full bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming.

Such an important part of our national history. Unfortunately, our recent visit coincided with the recent government shutdown, so a lot of NPS facilities were not open. But we were able to freely explore the cemetery on foot. We were glad we were able to pay our respects.

The cemetery is free to visit, and so are the 3 daily guided tours. The history is so moving and it’s easy to get choked up when hearing about everything. I highly recommend the 5:30pm tour followed by Taps at 7pm. (But only if you want to cry.)

I loved seeing the battle field's to sit and think of what happened here. To see our own fighting against our own for a better life for all. Both sides had their reasons. Both sides understood the cost. Now, we live in a world where no one understands the cost of freedom. Now, everyone looks the other way and forgets. I served in 2-2 Infantry for 10 years. A lot of the pictures are of 2-2 Infantry. Dedicated to my fallen brothers.

Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts. The visitor center is the perfect starting point, offering helpful staff and an insightful overview of the battlefield and war history. The museum houses authentic artifacts that evoke the emotions of the battlefields, providing a profound understanding of the past. Visitors can also explore well-marked trails leading to outdoor battle sites even after the center closes.
Really interesting and intriguing. Hard to believe the events that took place there! Beautiful scenery too! Well kept! SO MANY BUTTERFLIES WHEN I WENT, in July! That was awesome! The monuments you can go into are breathtaking! Really neat that you can actually walk up to them and some you can even venture I to! Clean areas. The knowledge was unfathomable if the events that took place there! Everything from that era was well preserved and taken care of respectfully! Very nice. I enjoyed the room with the dome and compass above, with the full room painting! That was amazing and how they blended the painting with actual items lying around was so realistic looking. It was baffling! How they were able to do such a good job making it look almost 3D! Even though the events that took place there happened, there was a sense of Peace, the butterflies prove that.

We stopped in 30 Sept 2025 after engaging a tour guide for a “3 hour tour”, He had so much to tell us, he took 4 hours! Very informative and yet, so much could be said about the battles fought here. The Museum film and Cyclorama painting exhibit cost $40 for two seniors to see. The Cyclorama visit is timed but you can take your time walking the Museum. We visited the gift shop also. Tons of historical books there, along with glassware, magnets, and tasteful knickknacks. Lots of seniors and few school trips at this time of year.

Visiting this place was a very meaningful experience for me. There is so much to explore & learn. The video that is shown at the beginning of the museum tour was very well done, & the diorama experience was indescribable. Highly recommend for anyone interested in U.S. history.

We bought tickets for the diorama, movie and museum. Great experience overall! The movie was education and well presented, lasted about 15 minutes. The diorama visit is about 15 minutes as well and is worthwhile. The museum is huge, you could spend all day there. The gift shop is great. We left with toy rifles for the boys to do their own reenactment of the battles. The cafe offers delicious options, my only recommendation is they should offer more table for seating. They only had about 4-5 tables and that was not enough.

Gettysburg is a phenomenal historical site with more to see than the majority of visitors can get to in a short time. Just my personal practical advice, if you only have one day to visit the battlefield and don't want to hire a licensed guide, then the NPS auto tour is more than adequate. It is well marked, makes 16 stops at all the major highlights, and the audio & video segments do a great job. If you are more of an enthusiast and have 2 (or more) days, I recommend Carol Reardon & Tom Vossler's A Field Guide to Gettysburg. It lays out and thoroughly explains 37 stops. Taking a kind of combo approach, drive the auto tour with the Field Guide in hand. You get the shorter 16 stops, but the Field Guide gives you more depth and information at each spot. Plan on 2 to 4 hours on the battlefield itself and bring along a picnic and plenty of water. There's a lot to think about on this sacred ground. It's hard to stand anywhere in this peaceful, beautiful landscape and imagine the tragic carnage that happened here. But it's almost a spiritual kind of experience to try.
Chris S — Google review
Parking at the visitor center was easy and that's were we recommend you start when visiting. The visitor center is very nice with some great displays, movies, bus your, driving tours, rest rooms and even have a cafe to grab a bite. We did a driving tour using the NPS app which was really very nice to explain and bring the battle and people to life as you look at the fields or hills Give this review a like👍❤️. FYI the budget cuts are not affecting this park. There were plenty of rangers and volunteers to make your visit enjoyable. In talking to the rangers they were all very happy since most of the cuts got rid a dead weight or managers that never talked to the public or helped your experience be better. Let the parks know you like having less overhead and more people making your visit better.

This was my second time visiting Gettysburg National Park. I was actually camping at Artillary Ridge which was about 5 minute drive. I could have hiked it. There has been a lot of changes. Information is provided, directional markers have been installed so tou know where you are on the battlefield. The gift shop is nice and the grounds are lovely. You can take a bus tour to visit monunents or take the self guided audio tour. I highly recommend it, so much history.

Historical place museum
Nestled in the heart of Historic Downtown Frederick, the National Museum of Civil War Medicine offers a fascinating glimpse into the medical practices that shaped wartime care during one of America's most tumultuous periods. Spanning over 7,000 square feet across two floors, this museum features five immersive exhibits that vividly recreate scenes from Civil War medicine. Visitors can explore life-size dioramas depicting field hospitals and dressing stations, as well as military hospital wards and camp life.
An unexpected gem! Gore. Appendage amputation reenactments. Mummified body parts. Walls oozing with the blood of soldiers. I don’t know what I was expecting! But all of that was basically what I envisioned; so maybe a chamber of horrors! And yet, there was only one limb, a few human bones, and one room about amputations. For the most part, it was a Smithsonian museum style presentation. Filled with large amounts of information, educational placards, sound effects, and ambience. Not what I was expecting! We spent a good three hours. So make sure if you enjoy reading everything, to leave enough time for about four large museum rooms.

This was one of my favorite stops on our whole trip. The volunteer guide was friendly and knowledgeable and I wish I had more time to spend with him talking about hospital architecture. The book selection in the gift shop rivals any other museum bookshop I’ve been to. Absolutely stop here if you’re in the area. Side note: there is a parking garage out back which is better than street parking.

This museum is well laid out and informative. The exhibits were fun and educational and did a great job at eroding the belief that surgeons during this period were butchers and primitive. The only change i would like to see is a larger display on the adaptations and advances in medical care during g the time such as more on prosthetics than what is there

Smaller, but really interesting spot. Our docent, James, was super knowledgeable and a good speaker. It was helpful that he explained the layout of the exhibits, and the development of the standard procedures for caring for those injured in battle. He was also great about taking questions from visitors. Really worth a visit.

The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring

Adventure sports center
Water & Amusement Parks
Forest setup of zip lines, rope rigs & wooden bridges has day & night passes for kids & adults.
I've been returning to Sandy Springs Adventure Park for years. It is one of the best high ropes courses in the country (and I have been to many and directed low and high ropes courses at the Olympic Games). The courses are very safe, and their staff are well trained, teach well, and are responsive to visitors. The owner even came over and chatted with us, with no idea who we were. Day climbs are amazing and, as I discovered recently, evening glow events are magical!

If you're looking for an activity in the DMV area area that is not centered around food or alcohol, look no further! This a great activity for kids, but also thrill seeking and active adults. You will wake up sore the next day as you venture through the rope courses and zip lines. There is a difficulty level for everyone like all way to double black. As for me, I stuck to purple and yellow and made it through three courses in the three hours I was here. They have water stations throughout the park so no need to bring your bottle. Do wear tight fitting long sleeve clothing to minimize the chance for bruising and random cuts. If you just wanna bring the kids, there are a couple places to sit near the front. Staff was helpful and friendly throughout the park!

My boyfriend and I went to their Glow in the Park event on September 12 and had an absolute blast! It was a lot of fun and there are options for all skills/age levels. We’ll definitely be back! Be prepared for your arms to be sore the next day though!

Our family loves to visit The Adventure Park at Sandy Springs! It’s always a fun way to spend an afternoon enjoying the outdoors. We were there on the 4th and my daughter was able to complete her most challenging course yet. She left feeling proud of her accomplishment. The staff are super friendly and encouraging and really go out of their way to make sure everyone leaves happy!

Best high ropes course I've ever been to! They have a world class course built in a beautiful patch of old trees. All of the courses and equipment feel sturdy and well maintained. Fun for anyone, whether you're a beginner or a serious athlete! And the staff were all helpful and attentive. I'll be going back and taking friends!

We had so much fun. The courses have so many levels of difficulty, so there's a variety if you're brand new or an advanced climber. I definitely recommend gloves wether tou bring your own or buy theirs. Bug spray and water is a definite must have. They do provide water spots but I need extra hydration. Also maybe bring clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty, as it is an outside park. It was hot but once the sun went down it did cool off a bit and it was stunning. The sounds of nature and just being in the trees such a beautiful experience. 10 out of 10. We are definitely going back and trying to do as many and more difficult as possible!!!

This place is amazing! I went here with my students on a rainy day. Even though it was muddy and very slippery, we had such a great time. It’s definitely worth visiting, no matter the weather!

Phenomenal time to kick off our family birthday week! Our daughter was born still on May 23, 2004 and we went this year on her heavenly 21st birthday. Me, husband, son, daughter & her boyfriend had the most amazing time. I have Multiple Sclerosis so I was hoping to just do one obstacle and ended up doing 4. They're challenging and is a natural encourager of those who came with you! Physically challenging but what a great team building activity. We thoroughly enjoyed the GLOW in the Park!!! Happy Birthday to Nia (5.23), to my husband Sean (5.25) & Me (5.28).

Great Falls Park, spanning 800 acres along the Potomac River, is a stunning natural attraction with rushing white water and picturesque falls. The park offers scenic walking trails with multiple overlooks to observe the impressive white water falls. Visitors can also explore the area's colonial history at the historic Visitors Center, which is part of the remains of the Patowmack Canal System from the late 1700s.
Great Falls Park is an absolutely stunning natural gem that’s perfect for a day trip with family or friends. Located just outside Washington, D.C., it offers breathtaking views of the Potomac River cascading through dramatic rock formations. The sight and sound of the roaring falls are both powerful and peaceful—nature at its best. The park is very well maintained with clearly marked trails for all skill levels. Whether you’re looking for a casual stroll or a more challenging hike, there’s something for everyone. The overlooks near the Visitor Center provide amazing photo opportunities and safe, accessible views of the falls. For more adventurous visitors, the Billy Goat Trail on the Maryland side offers a fun and rugged experience with closer views of the river and rocks. There are plenty of picnic spots, clean restrooms, and informative signs about the area’s history and geology. It’s a great place to unplug, enjoy nature, and learn a bit along the way. Parking can fill up quickly on weekends, so arriving early is a good idea. Overall, Great Falls Park is a peaceful, scenic, and energizing escape from the city. Highly recommended for hikers, photographers, and anyone who enjoys the great outdoors!

Such a beautiful park! I didn't know it was managed by the National Park Service. There is a $20.00 fee per vehicle to get in. It was well worth it! There is a visitor center, and a concession stand underneath it that sells ice cream and other treats. Lots of trails for walking. There is even areas for rock climbing, if you have the gear.

Beautiful park with stunning views of the falls! It’s a perfect spot for a short hike, photography, or just relaxing by the river. The trails are well-marked and easy to follow, and there are multiple overlooks to see the rushing water up close. Parking can get crowded on weekends, so it’s best to go early. Definitely worth the small entrance fee for such a peaceful and scenic escape so close to the city.

My 1St Time here. Upon arriving there is a parking fee per car. $20.00. Lots of parking and easy access to the visitor center the bathrooms and the various trails. However, I heard there are other areas where there is free parking. There are various trails you can take. The most scenic ones are by the Potomac River. There are 3x observation points. They are all great for views of the rapids. I would say the most challenging trail is the “River Trail” it has lots of treacherous rocky areas to overcome n climb. Follow the “blue “ painted markers on the trees to stay on track . This trail is obviously next to the river. If you want to get really close to the river there are various areas where u can climb down. They all require some effort of delegating the rocky areas. Go slow . I use a hiking poles as leverage. It helps. The easiest trail to walk or run on is the “Old Carriage Road”. The trail is quite long. I only accomplished 6.28M overall. About 3 hours. Which includes the stopping time for picture taking and resting to eat some fruit. The small restaurant offers burgers, pizza, hot dogs, ice cream and the largest warm salted pretzel I ever ate. Sorry I didn’t take the pic. It was good though. Enjoy the trail and the sites.

Had a wonderful experience there with my father it was very family friendly. The trails are are very clean also easily accessible from the parking lot. Mainly saw the first three overlooks and such and some of the trail requires some small level of rock climbing but nothing dangerous otherwise the walk around there has amazing veiws!! Paid $20 too get in i believe but was quite worth the money once you see the veiws!

Great Falls Park is a beautiful and easily accessible destination for a quick nature escape. The views of the falls are powerful and impressive, especially from the three main overlooks. Overlook 1 is the closest to the entrance, but the trail is uneven and not ideal for wheelchairs or small children. In contrast, Overlooks 2 and 3 offer excellent views and are much more accessible, with paved paths that accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Well-marked trails, and ample parking make the experience even better.
Manisha N — Google review
Beautiful park especially if you get there early enough. Plenty of parking. Annual pass was better than one day pass. It is cheaper. We hiked a good amount of miles maybe around 4 miles. It was amazing the views were great many overlook but we came for the trail which was great it varies from the incline and regular paths. So be prepared if you want to hike it.
Cyril M — Google review
A wonderful day trip from the D.C. and surrounding areas if you want a nature escape with some stunning riverside scenery. Accessible viewpoints near the visitor centre offer great views of the falls and picnic tables to barbecue or spend time as a group at. You need to buy either a standard pass ($20 per car covering all passengers) or annual pass ($35) to enter, unless you have an ‘America the Beautiful’ pass. Would recommend doing so on nps.gov after checking if your target day is a free pass day.

Manassas National Battlefield Park spans 5,000 acres and commemorates the First and Second Battles of Manassas during the Civil War. The Henry Hill Visitor Center features a museum displaying uniforms, weapons, and other artifacts from the era. Visitors can watch an orientation film about the battles or join guided tours led by Park Rangers. The park is known for its historic significance as it was the site of two crucial American Civil War battles in the 18th century.
Beautiful open area with lots of history. Be sure to bring plenty of water if you plan on walking the entire battlefield area. No operational water fountains on site. There is a horse train the runs on the southern side of the field. The trail goes for miles.

We were in the area and wanted to make a quick visit to walk through the battlefield park. The park is very well maintained and stretches out very far. There are several areas with signage and historical information to read about the battlefield. If you’re visiting during the summer months, be sure to bring mosquito spray with you.

What a great place to get exercise, immerse yourself in history, and enjoy nature. There are 2 major trails ranging from 5-6 miles. You can combine them for an entire day walk/hike. They are easy to moderate. There are a few side loops to be able to see more historical structures. There are markers along the way to learn about the significance of each area. It's a history lesson combined with physical activity! I have hiked nearly every inch of this park over the years. This weekend I hiked the First Manassas Trail and the Old Stone Bridge Loop.

We came here on a Saturday afternoon, and no ticket is required. The visitor center has a small museum with very nice display of how the battle happened and what happened. It’s meaningful and also beautiful. Would recommend to visit if you happen to be in a nearby area.

A truly moving and educational 5-star experience! The Manassas National Battlefield Park is a phenomenal place to spend the day, and it felt like we were walking right through history. The staff is welcoming and informative, and the visitor center provides an excellent foundation. The highlight of the trip, however, was definitely the guided tour. The park rangers are extremely knowledgeable and bring the area's rich history to life, pointing out iconic spots like the Stone House, the striking statue of "Stonewall" Jackson, and the poignant plaques marking where officers like Brigadier General Bartow fell. Walking past the rows of cannons and along the classic split-rail fences with the wild views was breathtaking. The park has a peaceful atmosphere, but you can feel the incredible history that happened right under your feet. The interpretive signs, like the one about "The Marines Of '61," are also incredibly well-done. Download the NPS app if you want to explore with a self-guided tour—it's a great resource!

Visited during government shutdown. Visitors center and buildings were shuttered. Driving tour of the first battle included 4.5 miles of walking. Park isn't well-maintained and visitors litter / walk past litter. We picked up all we could (but left the dog poop packages). Tragic disregard for history.

I had some time after my meeting today to stop by the Crypto Museum, and it brought back a lot of memories. My old Navy RM, ET, and CT friends would recognize some of the equipment on display—it’s the same type we once worked on and with. Unfortunately, they don’t have some of the older gear we used back on the Belknap, but do go way back. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend visiting. It’s free, fascinating, and the volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable, with plenty of history to share about the equipment and the museum itself.

Nice little museum with some knowledgeable staff and a tiny gift shop featuring secret squirrel stuff. Not crowded, but seemed to be decently attended. If you are into old computers (or computer precusors) or want to try out an actual Enigma machine, this is a good place to visit. I was surprised how small it was, though (hence the 4 stars instead of 5).

The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they have a lot of brochures and informational items you can take home for further reading. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a solemn tribute to the men and women who served in the Vietnam War. It consists of three parts: the Three Soldiers statue, the Vietnam Women's Memorial, and the iconic Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. The wall, made of black granite, bears over 58,000 names of soldiers who either died or went missing during the war. Despite initial controversy over its design, it has become a place for healing and remembrance.
This beautiful and hunting reminder of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the face of evil. This monument is just a small thank you to all of the brave men, and women never came back home. I highly recommend visiting and paying a little respect.
Jason R — Google review
It's interesting to read that this memorial was designed after a "healing wound." I think the architect did a good job at bringing that vision to reality. After taking in the Lincoln Memorial, we headed back east and came upon the site which is just off the north side of the Pool. The arrow-shaped memorial wall of smooth, dark, reflective gabbro rock starts at ground level then slopes ever so gently into the earth until its midpoint, where it then gradually rises back up to ground level, with a ton of names engraved along the way. A memorial directory is posted nearby to aide in finding names. Look for a small podium near the entrances/exits. Simple, striking, and beautiful.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. is one of the most visited and moving monuments in the United States, honoring those who served in the Vietnam War. It is located at National Mall, near the Lincoln Memorial, dedicated in November 13, 1982. It was designed by Maya Lin, a 21-year-old architecture student at Yale, it was controversy at the beginning, but became iconic. It honors members of the U.S. armed forces who fought in the Vietnam War, those who died in service, and those missing in action (MIA). The two black granite walls, each 246 feet 9 inches long, set in a V-shape, engraved with the names of over 58,000 servicemen and women who died or went missing. The Three Servicemen Statue – A bronze statue by Frederick Hart depicting three soldiers, added in 1984 to complement the Wall. The Vietnam Women’s Memorial – Dedicated in 1993, honoring women (many nurses) who served. The Wall’s shape points toward the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument, linking it to the nation’s history. It's an open air Memorial, you can visit any time.

I found this memorial to be really cool on the evening that I went because they were doing an orange light awareness activity with lots of candles. I also really enjoy how you can see your image reflected in this memorial. If you are by the Lincoln memorial feel free to stop by this one as well!

There was a quiet reverence while walking through this area, it was deeply appreciated. I was there to find a name for my friend; her husband passed in Viet Nam. The volunteers were helpful and offered historical documentation about the Wall.

Years ago I watched a movie called In Country about a young girl searching for information about her father, who was killed in the Vietnam War. I recall the movie as being average at best, but in the final scene, they film real people at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC. It was so moving and difficult to watch I had tears flowing and could not stop. I could also hear several other people in the audience with the same reaction and when the show ended, I just stayed seated for the longest time and thankfully, my wife quietly sat there with me. Just to be clear, I’m too young to have fought in Vietnam but for some reason, it’s something that has been a part of my life since I was a kid. And so when I finally got to visit this amazing place after all these years, I took plenty of time to take it all in. This is a beautiful monument and it’s definitely worth seeing but at the same time, it was so jarring to see how amazing the monument to the Korean War and WWII were. Maybe take the time and visit all three. Michael Delehanty Compass Real Estate

The Lincoln Memorial, a tribute to Abraham Lincoln, was designed by architect Henry Bacon after the Parthenon in Greece. The 36 exterior columns represent the states in the Union at the time of Lincoln's death, with their names inscribed above them. Inside, a towering statue of Lincoln is flanked by chambers honoring his famous speeches. Located on the west side of the Tidal Basin, it stands opposite the Jefferson and Roosevelt Memorials.
The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. is one of the most inspiring and memorable landmarks I have ever visited. The moment you arrive, the scale and presence of the monument immediately capture your attention. Abraham Lincoln’s massive seated statue feels larger than life, not just in size but also in meaning. It is a place that reminds you of the struggles and triumphs that shaped America and the vision of one of its greatest leaders. The memorial’s architecture is stunning, with tall white marble columns surrounding the statue. On the walls, you can find inscriptions of Lincoln’s most famous speeches, including the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address. Reading these words while standing in front of the monument is a powerful experience, filled with history, reflection, and inspiration. From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, the view is simply breathtaking. The Reflecting Pool stretches out gracefully toward the Washington Monument, creating one of the most iconic and photographed scenes in the entire city. Visiting during sunrise or sunset adds a magical glow to the experience and makes it even more unforgettable. What stood out most to me was the peaceful and respectful atmosphere. Visitors from all over the world gather here, and yet there is a shared sense of quiet admiration. It is a place to pause, reflect, and appreciate the values of freedom, unity, and equality that Lincoln dedicated his life to. A must-visit in Washington, D.C., the Lincoln Memorial truly leaves a lasting impression.

Obviously a must see if you're visiting DC! I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty crowded but people were being very respectful and waiting for others to finish to take their pictures. When you get to the top you can see all the way down the National Mall which is great. Unfortunately the bookstore was closed due to the government shutdown, but still fun to check out!

A great place to honor our former president. You will never understand how big it is until to get to the bottom. The best time to visit is close to sunset when the sky is pretty and you can see the full reflection of the Washington monument with amazing colors in the sky. The addition of the ramp although blocks the view from the front, is a good addition for those with strollers.
Ajimon T — Google review
The Lincoln Memorial is stunning especially at sunset. I didn’t realize how close all the monuments were to each other until I visited; everything is just a short, scenic walk away. As I made my way from the Thomas Jefferson or Washington Memorial to the Lincoln, I saw one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever experienced. The way the light hit the reflecting pool and the memorial itself was just perfect peaceful, powerful, and unforgettable.

Lincoln Memorial The Lincoln Memorial is one of the most awe-inspiring landmarks in Washington, D.C., and a place that never fails to leave a deep impression no matter how many times you visit. Standing at the base of the monument and looking up at the towering statue of President Abraham Lincoln, you can truly feel the weight of history and the ideals he represented — unity, equality, and freedom. The craftsmanship is remarkable; the marble gleams beautifully in the sunlight during the day and takes on a serene glow under the lights at night. The entire site is impeccably maintained, and the setting along the Reflecting Pool makes it even more breathtaking. Watching the Washington Monument’s reflection shimmer in the water, especially at sunset, is a sight that captures the very spirit of America. The memorial’s inscriptions — the Gettysburg Address and Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address — are powerful reminders of the enduring importance of words in shaping a nation’s conscience. The atmosphere is peaceful yet profoundly moving. Tourists, students, and locals all stand together in quiet respect, taking in both the grandeur and the solemnity. Visiting the Lincoln Memorial is not just sightseeing — it’s an experience of reflection, gratitude, and inspiration that every visitor to D.C. should have at least once.

The National World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. is an intensely moving and essential stop right on the National Mall. The most recent visit, on a gorgeous fall afternoon, cool, crisp, and filled with sun, made the entire experience feel particularly perfect. The memorial’s design, centered on the Rainbow Pool, is immediately striking. Fifty-six granite pillars representing the states and territories form a beautiful semi-circle, all connected by a bronze rope, powerfully symbolizing the nation's unified commitment. The grand Atlantic and Pacific Arches stand at the ends, featuring intricate bronze bas-reliefs that illustrate key moments from both the battlefield and the critical home front. The heart of the memorial is the Freedom Wall, a stunning expanse covered with 4,048 shimmering gold stars. Since each star signifies 100 Americans who gave their lives, standing here and looking out toward the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool offers an unforgettable and solemn perspective on the immense price of freedom. It is a truly beautiful and profoundly conceived tribute to "The Greatest Generation."

The Hall of Mammals is equally captivating, showing animals from every corner of the planet in lifelike settings. The gem and mineral collection is one of the most dazzling sections, especially the famous Hope Diamond which sparkles brilliantly under the lights. Every gallery is thoughtfully designed to be both educational and visually engaging. What makes this museum truly special is how it inspires visitors of all ages. Whether you are fascinated by ancient fossils, marine life, or the origins of humanity, there is something here that will capture your imagination. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and admission is free, making it accessible to everyone. The National Museum of Natural History is not just a museum but a celebration of life in all its forms, presented in one of the most beautiful buildings in Washington DC.

We visited this museum as a family, and it was an amazing experience. My 7-year-old absolutely loved it! The exhibits are fascinating, interactive, and beautifully presented, which made the visit enjoyable for both children and adults. The staff was welcoming and the whole museum is very well organized. It’s a perfect place for families to learn, explore, and spend a memorable day together. I highly recommend it!

We love going to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History again and again. There is always so much to see, explore, and learn. One of the highlights for us was the African safari animals exhibit. The animals look so real that it feels like you're actually on a safari! It's exciting and fun for both kids and adults. My personal favorite part of the museum was the human evolution section. It was truly amazing to see how humans have changed and developed over thousands of years. The displays show how we’ve evolved from early humans to who we are today. It really makes you think about how far we’ve come as a species. The kids also had a great time exploring different sections of the museum. There are interactive exhibits and interesting facts everywhere you look, so it never feels boring. We spent hours walking around and still felt like there was more to discover. The Smithsonian Natural History Museum is a great place for families, students, and anyone curious about the world. It's educational, fun, and inspiring. We can't wait to go back again and see what new things we’ll learn next time!

This museum never disappoints! There’s something fascinating in every corner — from the massive dinosaur fossils to the sparkling gems and the incredible ocean exhibits. The Hope Diamond is a must-see, and the animal displays are so realistic and detailed. It’s perfect for both kids and adults, and you can easily spend a whole afternoon here. Best of all, admission is free! Truly one of the highlights of D.C.

Smithsonian Museum of Natural History — The Story Beneath Our Feet After honoring the fallen at Arlington and reaching for the stars at the Air and Space Museum, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History brought me back to Earth — literally. It’s humbling to stand in a place that tells the story of everything that came before us. From the glint of ancient gems to the quiet stare of creatures long extinct, every exhibit whispers, You’re part of something much older, much greater, than yourself. As a Marine, I’ve spent years learning about survival, discipline, and adaptation — but this museum reminded me that nature wrote those lessons first. The fossils, the meteorites, the skeletal giants towering overhead… all proof that time itself is the ultimate drill instructor. It shapes, tests, and transforms everything it touches. Walking through the Hall of Human Origins, I found myself reflecting on how far we’ve come — and how fragile our place still is. There’s a deep respect in realizing that we’re not the masters of this planet; we’re its current students. For anyone visiting Washington, D.C., this museum isn’t just about science — it’s about perspective. It’s a sacred reminder that every breath we take is borrowed from something far older, and far wiser, than we are. But, never forget, Not all is as it seems 😉

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History is an extraordinary museum that captivates you from the moment you walk in. Every exhibit is thoughtfully curated — from dinosaurs and ocean life to minerals and rare artifacts. It’s engaging for both adults and children, with modern, interactive displays and spacious galleries. Wonderfully organized and absolutely fascinating. A must-visit in Washington, D.C.

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC is a significant institution dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust through permanent and traveling exhibits as well as educational programs. Situated near the Smithsonian museums, it documents, studies, and interprets the history of the Holocaust with a dual purpose: memorializing the victims and helping confront hatred to prevent genocide.
One of the best museum visits in DC. The exhibits are well curated and informative, guiding you through one of the darkest chapters in our human history and causing you to reflect on the past and present and how the world at times fails to remember history (and repeats it). Recommend reserving tickets in advance ($1 service fee). It is timed entry ticket. Took ~3 hours to tour the museum. Lots of reading, artifacts to view and a couple of short videos. Plenty of sitting areas throughout the building along with restrooms on every floor.

Beautiful experience. I added 4 ☆ because they allow too many people into the museum at once. If you want to read you'll have to plan at least 3 hours ans be extremely patient with the crowds. There were many group tours with young adults yelling and running but some of those things are hard to control. Thank you for a beautiful experience and museum.

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Review The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. is one of the most powerful and emotionally moving institutions in the country. Visiting it is not a casual sightseeing experience—it’s an encounter with the depths of human history, morality, and conscience. From the moment you enter, the design of the museum draws you into the gravity of its subject: dim lighting, cold steel, and a quiet that commands respect. The architecture itself becomes part of the storytelling, guiding visitors through a journey that is both historical and deeply personal. The permanent exhibition presents the Holocaust with meticulous care and authenticity. Original artifacts—train cars, victims’ belongings, photographs, and Nazi propaganda—are displayed alongside survivor testimonies and documentary footage. Each floor unfolds chronologically, from the rise of the Nazi regime to the liberation of the camps, allowing visitors to grasp how ordinary prejudice evolved into genocide. What stands out most is the museum’s balance between education and reflection. It never sensationalizes tragedy; instead, it urges visitors to think critically about moral choices, human rights, and the consequences of indifference. The Hall of Remembrance at the end provides a quiet space to mourn and reflect. Overall, the Holocaust Museum is not just a museum—it’s a moral experience, a place that reminds every visitor of the responsibility to remember, and to never let such atrocities happen again.

It's a place you might want to visit to understand how still WAR is invading out kindness, being deserted from your own house and being separated from your own family. How much hardship those traumatized souls had to go through and how sad they are! those who survived but feeling so helpless that we're not being able to control our problems and still ended up getting into the same WAR.

OMG!! This museum blew me away. Whomever curated this beautiful museum deserves an 👏🏾! From the interactive exhibits to being told that there were some persons working at the museum that survived the holocaust. Blown away!! Such an emotional experience.

I fell on my knees before coming inside, thought there would be a place to rest, but only a few places. There were some places to watch video where there were seats and at the end. Good place for history lovers that can stand for an hour. I'm glad I came, but it isn't a place for people with mobility issues.

Visited the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. today, and wow what a powerful, emotional experience. 💔 You will be moved bring tissues. The exhibits are heartbreaking yet so important. 🕯️ They use timed-entry tickets, which made it easy to get in with no big crowds, and it’s very simple to get to. If you’re in D.C., this is a must. The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is a fascinating destination that delves into the history of aviation and space exploration. The museum showcases an array of vehicles and artifacts, including the original Wright 1903 Flyer, the 'Spirit of St. Louis,' and the Apollo 11 command module.
The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum is an absolute must-visit in DC and it is free. The exhibits are incredible and there’s something for everyone, whether you’re into aviation history, space exploration, or just want to see real rockets, moon landers, and fighter jets up close. I loved how interactive and well-organized everything was. You can walk through the history of flight, see the Wright brothers’ early work, touch a piece of the moon, and check out modern NASA missions all in one place. The curation is top-notch and every display is thoughtfully done. Check out the IMAX theater inside. They play some really great 3D movies that are worth the experience, especially if you’re into space documentaries or science films. It adds a whole new layer to your visit. It can get a little crowded, especially on weekends, but totally worth it. Staff is friendly and the space is big enough to move around easily. Easily one of the highlights of my DC trip. Would go back to catch more shows and explore the rest.

Wow! What an amazing museum!!! We’ve visited it a few times over the years. Our whole family has always enjoyed it at all ages, little kids, teenagers, and adults alike. There’s hands-on activities for younger kids, and informative displays for adults. We watched a film display and the toddlers next to us found it just as engaging as we did. This museum really is truly great for all ages, and we have found it fascinating after each new visit. We spent 3 hours here, and didn’t even see every display. There’s so much to do and to look at. The staff were so friendly and well-informed. We really enjoyed chatting with them. I’m so happy that we were able to visit. My one piece of advice is to book the free timed-entry tickets as far in advance as possible so that you get the chance to enjoy this amazing experience!

The National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC is one of the most inspiring and fascinating places I have ever visited. From the moment you step inside you can feel the excitement of human achievement and discovery. The museum captures the full story of flight and space exploration in a way that is both educational and deeply moving. Every exhibit is designed with care and attention to detail making it easy to understand how far we have come in just a little over a century of aviation. One of the most impressive parts of the museum is the collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft. Seeing the Wright brothers’ first flyer up close is an unforgettable experience. The Apollo 11 command module is another highlight that truly makes you appreciate the courage and vision of the astronauts who first set foot on the Moon. The exhibits on modern space missions and the future of exploration are equally inspiring and show how innovation continues to push the boundaries of what is possible. The museum is beautifully organized and free to enter which makes it accessible to everyone. The staff are friendly and always ready to answer questions. Whether you are a space enthusiast or simply curious about science and technology this museum will leave you feeling amazed and inspired. It is a place that celebrates human imagination and determination and it is absolutely worth visiting.

Great museum! If you love aviation you will love this place! They have many airplanes from 747s to DC-3s to a wright flyer. They even have an x wing hanging from the roof! Tons of cool information, including about space flight and space craft. Only complaint is that part of the museum was closed for construction, but it's understandable because they have to renovate it at some point. Get tickets online in advance! Would highly recommend this place!

Great place for being solo, as a couple or family. You need to book your tickets online in advance as there are timed entries to enter. Amazing information, videos and models for explaining various aspects of space and flight travel. Will take about 1 to 2 hours to fully enjoy. Less crowded on weekdays versus weekends.

My visit to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. was absolutely incredible! The exhibits are beautifully organized and full of fascinating details about the history of aviation and space exploration. Seeing the original spacecraft, jets, and satellites up close was truly awe-inspiring. The museum staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do, which made the experience even more engaging. It’s the perfect place for both adults and children to learn, dream, and be inspired by human ingenuity and discovery. I left feeling amazed and deeply grateful for the opportunity to explore such a world-class museum.

Great museum. I didn't know that I can get the timed pass online, so I had to wait there for 15 minutes but that was not a problem for us. Incredible to see the real engines and rockets used for space exploration. My kids were 3,5 and 1,5.. they enjoyed the kids zone, but in general it is a must-go for older kids for inspiration.. we will definitely go again in future..

Water & Amusement Parks
Six Flags America, located in Maryland, started as a safari park in 1974 before transforming into a theme park and joining the Six Flags family. Spanning over 500 acres, it offers an array of attractions including Looney Tunes-themed rides for kids, thrilling roller coasters, and a water park. The park is divided into six themed areas such as Main Street 1776 and Gotham City. Visitors can enjoy over 50 rides and shows suitable for all ages.
I absolutely love Six Flags. Definitely one of my favorite amusement parks I’ve ever been to. I always came here multiple times during the summer as a kid so I had to come one last final time. before they close for good. Some of their rides were shut down, but we still had a great time. The workers are super nice and polite. I’m glad my kids got to come at least one time before they shut down for good. We had such a great time but also sad knowing this will be our last time here for good and this place will set vacant. I do recommend buying tickets online since they’re half off? I also recommend getting a souvenir cup for $20 so you can get free refills for the rest of the day and you can keep the cup as a little memory.

THIS REVIEW WILL SAVE YOU MONEY. The park closes permanently in November. If you plan to go before it does, buy the standard ticket. I promise there is NO need to buy a fast pass of any kind as the park is mostly empty even on weekends. If you buy a single meal deal, there’s about a $4 cost savings if you order your meal and drink from Jonny Rockets ($28 regular and $24 with the meal deal ticket). My wife and I enjoyed the rides and the theme park, and we hope they build something similar there.

Pretty sad to see this place closing down. I surprisingly had a better time here than SFNE. I just thought that here, everything wasn't crammed into one little space like over there. Although, Six Flags New England has some nice buildings. Back to Six Flags America. It wasn't very crowded. On days where it's busy, the I'll expect the lines to be 2 hours each because these operations are BAD. There were only running one train on half of the coasters and it took them about 3 minutes to dispatch each train. They were only running on gondola on Voodoo Drop and it still took like 2 minutes. I hope their operations get better because this park is closing in less than a month. I did have a great time for my 4 hours there even though it rained (the reason why I only stayed there for 4 hours.) Come check this place out before closing on 11/2/25

I love this place! 🙃🥳My daughter & i will most certainly miss our home state amusement park. I been coming here since I was 9 in the "adventure world" to "wild world" days. I'm very sad to see Six Flags not invest in the park overall that much since 2000. However, what they added since are great flat ride additions. If it got its fair share of investment $ along the years since superman was added, I think it would still have survived the cutting board. What a shame😭 That being said, I hope everyone got their fun in by now. If not, this weekend will be the final hooray! I'm sure we'll be there getting our last kicks in, weather is looking good so far! ✌🏽😎

Despite the park closing permanently very soon, I had a great time here! All the Roller Coasters had no wait on a Sunday, and we got to ride them all a few times. Park was clean, and the shows were good. Operations were quite slow (granted it is closing soon, and no crowds) but still kind of annoying. All the roller coasters were quite fun, favorites being Superman: Ride Of Steel, Jokers Jinx, and Wild One.
Brennon H — Google review
I visited this park knowing about the coming closure in November. Overall, it was a good experience and I had some fun. The only downside to my experience was that three out of the eight roller coasters were closed that day. This is a big deal considering there aren’t that many to begin with. The crowds were not too bad and most of the coasters only ran one train. The park is nice and offers some cool places such as the new steam town. On the other hand, there are some areas that do not look well kept. The staff were friendly when running the rides. I would like to come back one day, however, because of the closure I would not return.
Brody H — Google review
I know that this park is closing next month so I went one last time. I was disappointed that Superman: Ride of Steel, and Batwing was closed. I went on 6 rides and the wait time was 5 minutes or less. Ragin Cajun had a longer wait so I didn't go on that ride. I was going to ride Harley Quinn Spinsanity but they were having a problem getting the seat belts to lock so I got out of line. The rides that I went on were very rough. I didn't want to ride them again. I saw 3 shows and they were very good. It's sad that the park is closing but the roller-coasters need to be replaced.
Leya C — Google review
My first time here was the last day the park was open. Kind of hard to believe they'd want to close that park. The grounds were clean, the staff was professional, I even saw a ride operator pick up a piece of trash off of the floor that a guest had dropped. Almost forgot it was a six flags park lol. It just feels like their corporate daddy is deciding to close the park because it's not a big money maker, but it's hard to believe it's losing them money. So much history and large part of people's lives and jobs gone because someone at the top wants to make a quick buck versus putting in the time and money to make it a truly great park. It's sad l and I hope this isn't a repeat of astroworld. Six flags just completed a merger last year with cedar fair so there's a bunch of parks that are close together. Closing this park was just getting rid of some "redundancy." I honestly expect to see more closings where there's another park close by over the next decade or so.

George Washington's Mount Vernon

George Washington's Mount Vernon is a popular historic site that was the cherished residence of George and Martha Washington. Visitors can take guided tours of the furnished main house to gain insight into the couple's daily life, while self-guided tours of the estate's outbuildings and gardens offer interactive experiences with actors portraying 18th-century plantation life. The estate also features an educational film about George Washington's life, from his early military service to the American Revolution.
Mount Vernon is an absolutely beautiful and historic site. The grounds are incredibly well-maintained, with lush greenery, scenic views, and several peaceful hiking trails that make it easy to spend hours exploring. It’s a must-visit for history lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. Unfortunately, much of the main house was closed due to major renovations during our visit, which was a bit disappointing. We were really hoping to see more of the interior. That said, we understand the importance of preservation and look forward to coming back when the house is fully reopened. One serious concern was the strict enforcement of the “only bottled water allowed” rule on the property. It was an extremely hot day, and after buying a drink from their overpriced and underwhelming cafeteria, we were told we couldn’t bring it past a certain point. In those conditions, limiting access to hydration—especially when options are so expensive—felt not just inconvenient, but borderline unsafe. On a brighter note, the gift shop was much nicer than expected, with a wide range of quality souvenirs, books, and unique items. We visited on a weekday, so the crowds were minimal and the overall experience was peaceful. Despite a few drawbacks, this is still a place worth seeing, and we’ll definitely be back—hopefully on a cooler day and with better access to drinks.

Mount Vernon earned its name due to its association with United States President George Washington. He lived in various times at this estate. It is basically an agriculture estate on a raised bank of Potomac River. The estate has a nice two storied building where George Washington lived with his family members. There is vast green all around. The property also has the tomb of George Washington. It can be a nice weekend tour. The facility has a museum to exhibit George Washington's stuffs like furniture, crockery, wardrobe etc. The museum and all other facilities are well designed, well maintained, and masterly curated. There are volunteers everywhere. There are guides, narrators, audio visual shows. There are adequate facilities for people with special needs. One needs to walk 2-3 miles at least to see all the exhibits.

My visit to Mount Vernon was truly inspiring 🇺🇸 I loved every part of it — the insightful exhibitions, the beautifully preserved estate, and especially the passionate guides who brought George Washington’s story to life. Walking through the house and gardens felt like stepping back in time. The attention to detail and the way history is shared here make it one of the most memorable visits I’ve had in the U.S. A place full of meaning, learning, and respect for the past. Highly recommended!

First and foremost I would like to thank the staff at the lost and found, someone recovered my necklace and returned it to lost and found and the staff here did everything they could after my girlfriend contacted them via email to ship the item back to me in a quick and timely matter and I really appreciate the staff here for that. Now this was an extremely amazing experience to see George Washington’s home and farm and to learn about his family and life and the slaves that he had working on the farm and seeing his tomb and seeing how beautiful his garden is and Maintained really well by the staff who works here. If you are in the area I would recommend visiting this place, the staff here are very friendly, helpful and it’s obvious they love their job.

We really enjoyed visiting here with our kids (ages 3 & 6). We’ve studied Washington with our schooling and seeing his favorite place really brought history alive. There’s something really amazing about standing on the back porch at Mt Vernon and enjoying the same view he loved standing where he probably stood. Even though the house tour is limited currently it was still worth doing and we highly recommend going. Learning about the way the house was built and how he worked the land was fascinating. Seeing his tomb was special. We went at the end of day and actually saw it with minimal people present. The guides were all helpful and very kind. We quickly visited the other burial grounds for the enslaved people as it was closing time. We appreciated that we could and they weren’t rushing us out.

A wonderfully presented piece of early US history. Although there are main house renovation works going on, it did not spoil the visit to this glorious spot. This facility was an agricultural estate adjacent to the Potomac River. The main building was under renovation at this time. They provided you with virtual tour of the main residential building at the beginning. The property has the tomb of George Washington. The staff were friendly and informative. They kept the facility in a beautiful condition. You can access the audio tour through their QR code. The facility does required quite a bit of walking if you are interested in seeing all the landmarks.

We had a meeting scheduled with President Washington. His secretary promised he’d spare at least five minutes to talk with us. Instead, we ended up strolling around his estate at Mount Vernon for four hours. His staff were kind enough to show us around, but the man himself was too busy to meet us. No worries, we’ll definitely come again.

The Marine Corps Museum is beyond awesome! AND IT'S FREE...if it is not THE best museum that I've ever been to, it's at least tied. It feels like you are almost in a theme park. As a Marine, visiting the National Museum of the Marine Corps was nothing short of incredible. The moment you walk in, the design of the building and the atmosphere make it clear that this is more than just a museum—it’s a tribute to our history, our sacrifices, and our brotherhood. The exhibits bring Marine Corps history to life in a way that words alone can’t capture. From the Revolutionary War to the modern-day fight, each gallery is immersive, detailed, and respectful of the Marines who served in those eras. The attention to detail in the uniforms, weapons, and recreated environments made me feel like I was stepping back in time. What stood out most to me was how the museum honors every generation of Marines. It’s not just facts on a wall—it’s stories, images, and artifacts that remind you of the legacy you’re part of. Walking through, I felt a deep sense of pride, respect, and connection to those who came before me. If you’re a Marine, a veteran, or someone who simply wants to understand the heart of the Corps, this is a must-visit. It’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave. Semper Fidelis.

River bluff park on the Potomac's Northern Neck offering camping, a swimming pool & a boat ramp.
Went to Westmoreland State Park after a work meeting one afternoon! The park rangers in charge of the visitor's center were quite helpful. I made my way down to fossil beach where i found a fossil!! The trails are well marked, with the fossil beach trail being the most used. The drive into the park was absolutely beautiful, a split road where you wind through the woods. Oh, fun fact, when I went, it must've been mating season for tiny black weevils, because they were ALL over fossil beach. And, these tiny, tiny toads were all over the other trails I did (trail guide for scale)

Visited for a day trip. State park has entry fee of $10 for cars. Like all other state parks entry is free if you booked camping. Park has two beaches and 3 trails. From visiting center Big meadow trial is around 0.6 miles which takes to Fossil beach. Trial is little challenging for elderly people. Beach space is small. If you are interested on shark teeth or fossil collection then this is best place. Not a good place to swim. There are cliffs on both ends of fossil beach. There is another beach which is convenient for swim and kayaking. Lot a picnic tables in that beach area. For fossil beach park near visiting center. For swim and kayaking there is another parking very near to beach. Get your food. No options to buy food. However chops and ice cream vending machines available in visiting center

Overall rating and satisfaction = very good and will go again. Beautiful place, well kept, clean, safe, quiet, very polite and helpful staff all around. Pros Campground B - showers and bathrooms very well kept, clean, appealing & modern. Picnic tables were super nice and sturdy. Nice fire pit/ fire ring with adjustable grill grid. Check in and out very easy and fast. Felt safe throughout park and it was very clean overall. We can't say enough positive things about the park and campground. Near entrance of the park.... Bird Dogs bait/convenience store was awesome.... really nice people, helpful, country store, bait, ice, firewood, etc. 5 stars Cons (very minimal) Several different versions of park map with outdated/inaccurate info - we ended up with several different versions, there isn't a swimming pool anymore (but we were told when we made the camping reservation that it would be open). One map showed there was a pool but it isn't there anymore. Showed there was a laundry facility in Campground A but we couldn't find it. We went off season so park store wasn't open as frequently. Suggestion ... update park literature and provide only new versions. Fossil beach: Trail had beautiful scenery but a lot of roots growing in trail making it rough. We took a beach wagon (thinking it would be perfect to carry our stuff and fishing poles) but it didn't work well. Tipped over many times and hard to pull on trail. Definately check the tide schedule (our fault... we didn't think about that) and go before high tide. During high tide there is very little beach/sand area but we still had a great experience and will go back.

This state park and campground is awesome. The trails, beaches, campsites, and facilities were all well maintained. I've been in state parks all over the northeast; VA and NY camping is at the top favorites so far. The camp host and state park workers were all very friendly, and diligently cleaned up as guests left. The bath houses were cleaned and stocked every day. The bath house in campground A had a washer and dryer. This was very much appreciated since our towels would not dry due to humidity. It was about 1.75 and 1.50 (quarters only) to use each respectively. Campground A was also the most heavily wooded / shaded. Campground B seemed very open when driving past. The beaches are 1/2 sand and pebbles, I suggest water shoes. You can rent kayaks. There's charcoal grills and picnic tables along the beach and concessions. Our camp site, including the fire pit, was clean and tidy when we arrived. We loved the fact that many of the sites in campground A are pull through. We also loved that the entire park was dog friendly!! ***just a note for pet owners*** many many many ticks around this area. I suggest making sure your dogs have a tick collar or were very recently treated. Our dogs were treated but picked 4 dead ones off my 2 dogs, husband found 1 on each of us. No problems with electricity or water. Water was clean and steady, with good pressure. **just a note for RVs! The A loop 1 way driving direction goes counter clockwise. If your awning is on the passenger side, you want an outer loop pull through spot. If your awning is on the driver side, you want an inner loop pull through. We made this mistake but the roads weren't very busy so we could get turned around easily and make it work.**

I had some extra time today and decided to visit Westmoreland State Park. After a quick visit to the visitor center I walked down to fossil beach via Big Meadow Trail. Easy trail downhill, easy trail uphill back, with a bench halfway to use as you fancy. Quiet little family beach on the Potomac River. Smooth water. Some people had colanders. I guess looking for fossils. I squatted at the water line like they were but saw no bones. I did find a few cool palm-sized skipping stones. Sort of triangles, two sides were more beveled then the other. They skipped really well. I will plan a longer visit to see the other trails. Maybe get lucky and find some fossils.

Nice place to visits. Beautiful vistas. Options for kayaking. Two beaches. Different campgrounds for tents and RVs. Hiking trails are nice, but no long trails for all-day hikes. Saw 2 lizards and a small snake without even looking hard to see them. Lots of different types of trees, etc. Places to go out for dinner or lunch a few miles down the road in Montross, or in Colonial Beach if coming from or heading back to the DC or Baltimore area.

The park trails are really nice well maintained, one is paved most of the way to the fishing pond. The rest of the trails are dirt and great shape for running a few roots here and there but who can control that. Fossil beach is pretty neat great view cool cliffs and lots of beach area. I haven't been any where else I just do the trails, I have place on the Potomac 20 min away so I dont have a need for most of the stuf the park offers I just like walking trails in the evenings. But I have driven around in there and it all looks in good shape.

We attended the 2025 Halloween event and there was a $7 parking fee to get in. Despite the promotion there were only about 7 trunk or treat stations. The decorations and costumes were impressive but that was about it. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it was quite disappointing overall. It’s a very small scale event with no long walks, so keep that in mind if you plan to attend. This review is just for Halloween event.

Virginia's first plantation, this still-operating estate farm offers a peek into 17-century America.
An absolute gem of the Rt 5 historic sites, and was not busy at all when I went. Highly recommend for the gorgeous architecture, 400 year old trees, and sweeping river views.

This property is truly a gem in examining Colonial and United States history. Being the oldest continuously-run family business since 1614, the surroundings made one feel as if they were transported back in time. The tour guide provided a detailed history of the various peoples who occupied the property as well as a detailed history of the family that resided here for centuries. Overall, this is an essential stop for those who love to explore the sites of Early American history.

An impressive plantation on the river. Many outbuildings to view. Purchase tickets at the gift shop. $11 to walk the grounds and over $20 to tour the house ground floor. The family still lives in the house so the upstairs is closed off. The gardens were disappointing as they were overgrown. It would be nice if a community group would volunteer to help preserve the gardens as they were probably very nice at some time in the past. There are two magnificent old trees behind the house. The tour guide says they are over 450 years old. There is approximately a 2 mile drive from the main highway.

Went here to celebrate my Uncle's 70th birthday 🎂. This Winery was absolutely worth the trip. Very nice, elegant, and spacious. Had a great time. Got to meet new family members and see family I haven't seen in a while. The food and service was phenomenal. Looking forward to stopping by again. One of the most beautiful Winery's 🍷 I've visited.

We decided to come on a whim the Saturday before Father's day. We were pleasantly surprised that admission to the grounds were free that particular day. The house itself was spectacular and we enjoyed.the grounds and gardens. They had an amazing 350 year old willow oak behind the house near the river. The was a very informative time-line of the history of the site found in the ice house building.

Just amazing and rare piece of history. Be proactive and book your tickets ahead online. I glad i did, we got first 11 am spot and had great exclusive guided tour of the first floor of the house, the family actually lives on the second and third floor, so you can't go there. Melissa, our guide, was highly knowledgeable and knew history of the place and about the artifacts displayed. Allow 2 hours for entire walk through, museum and outside buildings. There is also small gift shop on the properry, and winery/restaurant half a mile away if you get hungry.

Beautiful historic home! The interior has been beautifully maintained over the generations, with tons of antiques original to the house. The portraits of the family members are beautiful. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Very impressed!!!!

Great example of a colonial plantation! This was our first stop of the day, and I appreciated the great signage they had up explaining all of the outbuildings, and I believe they have some sort of audio tour around the property, but we skipped that in favor of going on the house tour. You can only visit the downstairs, but seeing that the family still lives in the house, I really appreciate the fact that they are willing to share any part of their home with the public at all. The tour was very informative and I loved our guide! I will have to come back and visit the vineyard next time I’m in the area.

Civil War battle site & museum featuring exhibits, artifacts, camp recreations & antebellum homes.
Wonderful park! Fantastic museum with a number of interactive exhibits, historic homes, and great hiking trails along the historic breakthrough attack that ended the seige of Petersburg. The earthworks and preserved fortification are phenomenal. A real hidden gem for anyone at all interested on history.

The pictures don't do this place justice. We stopped here in the middle of a 9-hour drive. So we only had 1.5 hours to spare. We will need to come again to see it all again. 3 hours would be more realistic. My kids are 9,7, and 5. And they didn't complain once. We just read "Laura Ingalls Wilder." I'm sure this helped the kids connect to the time period.

I always noticed the highway sign for this site and finally had the opportunity to visit. The visit was well worth it. While the museum architecture is a bit dated, the exhibits are extremely well done. An audio tour is available which provides much context to the exhibits. The audio tour also offers the chance to choose a person who actually participated in the war and follow their story. You learn a lot about the life of average soldiers in a most engaging manner. The museum staff was friendly and the interpreter who spoke about the life and gear of a Union soldier was excellent. The grounds are beautiful with convenient walkways to enable access to the impressive fortifications that survive to this day. This is a wonderful site for kids and history enthusiasts.

Amazing site. It’s is a great history of the battle and the museums are great love the walk through a soldiers experience. The earthworks are a great walk and the recreated trenches are awesome for realization of the battle. It is a must stop for history people and non history people. The plantation and houses show the civilian life as well. And are just as important.

Nice to visit if you have already visited Appomattox. This battle took place one week prior to surrender. Will come back again, to walk the trails.

Very well done park with many exhibits inside and out. I really enjoyed the audio tour which is included with your admission. The Park Staff at the Battlefield Center took the time to provide a great summary of the battle of Petersburg. Definitely take time to enjoy this piece of history.

And for those who would rather listen than read, the players/ headphones are awesome. So to surmise, thr adult and child alike will enjoy this gem!

Nestled along the scenic banks of the James River, Berkeley Plantation is a treasure trove of American history dating back to 1726. This remarkable plantation was not only home to Benjamin Harrison V, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, but also to his son William Henry Harrison, who served as the ninth president. Visitors can explore its beautifully preserved Georgian-style house filled with authentic 18th-century furnishings and enjoy guided tours that are rich in fascinating stories and anecdotes.
We loved our visit to the Berkeley Plantation. Our tour guide was so informative and we learned so much. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and located on the James river. We enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing some of the monuments and having George the cat tag along. Definitely make this one of your stops when traveling through Virginia.

What a great visit! Our tour guide was pleasant, knowledgeable and funny too. We ordered our tickets online the night before but you can buy at the door too. A lot of walking after the house tour so wear good shoes. George the cat was an added extra tour guide. Recommend, we learned some history and enjoyed our visit. We’d go back.

This is a great place to stop and see some British/ American history. The staff are wonderful and did a fantastic job. Beautiful location. What amazing history can be found. If your in the area or on 295. Take a short detour and stop. You won't be disappointed.

Wasn't planned but so glad a local man in Williamsburg recommend the Berkeley Mansion. Lots of interesting historic insights into Virginia life around William Harrison and Benjamin Harrison Must see this plantation.

One of the best tours I have ever been on. I wish I caught his name. An older black gentleman. He was incredible. He was so full of knowledge and the way he talked to us was just so wonderful. He shared so much about the history of this home and he said he loves history and you can definitely see it. He works directly for the owner of the plantation. I can't say enough about this house if you are interested in plantation life and our country's history and our founding fathers. I would so do this again

Great place to explore history. Wish there was more to look at in the house and kitchen quarters. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. It was like a step back through time. George the resident cat was a treat. Glad we stopped on our way out of Virginia.

Would highly recommend visiting! We had an amazing tour guide who was so knowledgeable & friendly! The plantation is so full of history. I’ve lived in Virginia pretty much my whole life and never knew until today that this is really where the first Thanksgiving took place! Beautiful grounds and full of cardinals! I’ve never seen so many. And King George (the cat) is a very well mannered & handsome little fella! :)
