Bottomless Lakes State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park features several sinkhole-formed lakes with water sport activities, plus hiking trails.
We called to see what the chances were there was a spot open for just one night. We got lucky and were pleasantly surprised by this cute tucked away spot. A very desert appeal with a beautiful natural lake against the red rock cliffs. A great family swimming hole and we’ll walk the short mile hike this morning.
Marsha G — Google review
It's a place that looks beautiful from a distance, but when you get there, it's not. Entrance costs $10 per car, whether you're entering or leaving. The sand is muddy, and the water is still flowing. I don't recommend swimming. If you're going to barbecue, I recommend getting up early. I think it's the only place within a 100-mile radius that the locals have to enjoy.
Luis — Google review
We went during the week on a Tuesday. It was empty for the most part. Very pleasant and quiet. We picked a shaded picnic area and spent 4 hrs just enjoying the scenery and cool water of Lea lake. It was a 90° day but the breeze was perfect! Amazing geology!
Patrick N — Google review
My family and I had a wonderful time camping here! We stayed in a tent at the campground and really enjoyed how spacious it was. We booked a site with electric and water hookups, plus our spot included a picnic table and some nice shade. The restroom and shower facilities were clean and the showers had good pressure and plenty of hot water, which was soothing after a long day outdoors. During our stay, the campground was peaceful, with everyone keeping to themselves and no noisy campers around. The only odd thing was that someone (likely a park employee) decided to use a leaf blower at 5am, circling the park and waking everyone up. That was definitely unexpected! Other than that, the park itself is absolutely beautiful and full of scenic trails, rocky canyons, and great photo opportunities for anyone who loves nature and wildlife. The lakes are clear and refreshing, with designated swimming areas. We also saw park rangers making their rounds, keeping everything in check, which made us feel safe. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend visiting or camping here, especially in the Fall season.
Texas W — Google review
This was a nice, quiet park to stay in while we visited the Roswell area. There is a Camp Host, and Bathrooms were attended to daily. Each site had a standing charcoal grill just outside of a covered picnic table. There was a nice boardwalk across the street, and the lake/ beach were empty (we stayed during the week M-W) Also, there was dispersed camping outside of the Lea Lake Campground, near the Visitor Center. We did not go into the visitor center though! A good place to stay for travelers needing some rest :)
A L — Google review
It may have been due to visiting near the end of the season, but the area appeared somewhat run-down. Several buildings had broken windows, and both the restroom and play area were infested with wasps. The highlight of the visit was the beautiful view of the lake framed by striking red cliffs. We also discovered another lake within the park; however, it was mostly dried up and had a noticeable sulfur odor.
Travis D — Google review
Such a fun place to visit. They have a swimming area with paddle boats, picnic tables, nice, clean restrooms, and a really cute pavilion. If your near Roswell I highly recommend visiting
Tracey R — Google review
Beautiful place, with clear water and lovely scenery. Watch out for the racoons at night time. Those little buggers ripped open our tent, to try to get our food in the middle of the night. YIKES! 😬

International UFO Museum and Research Center and Gift Shop

Mentioned on
35 lists
Museum
Gift shop
The International UFO Museum and Research Center and Gift Shop, established in 1991, is located in the heart of Roswell. It focuses on the 1947 Roswell Crush and other UFO incidents. The museum features extensive exhibits documenting stories about UFOs and theories about the Roswell incident. Visitors can explore witness statements, newspaper cuttings, extended essays, homemade models, and mock-ups related to the event. Additionally, it boasts an extensive library with a comprehensive collection of UFO-related materials.
In February 2025, we visited the International UFO Museum in Roswell, New Mexico. We were on a road trip and visiting National Parks and historical sites in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Carlsbad Caverns National Parks does not allow for any tours after 2:30 PM, so we decided to visit Roswell, NM for the alien attractions. By the time that we arrived at the International UFO Museum, it was closed; nevertheless, the alien decorations and scenery in Roswell were super fun to see. Legend/history has it that an alien landing happened in 1947, and Roswell has been enjoying and benefiting from that legend/history for the past 78 years. Thank you, International UFO Museum of Roswell, New Mexico, for contributing to our amazing Southwestern United States road trip experience. I included pictures of the International UFO Museum and some of the surrounding stores that all have clever alien displays.
John C — Google review
This was a fantastic place to learn about aliens and the history of Roswell. I especially enjoyed the museum’s library wing, which is filled with fascinating alien-related materials as well as historical archives from the region. The main exhibit area was equally impressive, offering an engaging and extensive collection of displays that bring Roswell’s unique history to life.
Travis D — Google review
Visitor Guide: What to Expect at the Roswell UFO Museum If you're planning a trip to the International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico, especially because of the legendary 1947 Roswell Incident, it’s worth going in with the right expectations. Much like the Stanley Hotel in Colorado, this is more about myth, inspiration, and lore than hard evidence or high-tech immersion. Let’s start with the basics. The museum has relocated in recent years, and the signage makes it easy to find. Admission is inexpensive, the facility is clean, and everything is easy to navigate on foot. But rather than a traditional museum with interactive exhibits, the experience leans more toward an archive-style presentation with static displays and research materials. About a third of the exhibits focus on the Roswell crash itself, though much of that section is filled with photocopied documents, legal affidavits, newspaper clippings, and personal statements. These are interesting from a historical perspective, but they can also be a bit confusing or inconsistent. For example, one account described an egg-shaped craft on a military truck, while another mentioned four alien beings instead of the commonly reported three. These contradictions are thought-provoking, but they may leave you uncertain rather than enlightened. The museum’s standout feature is its library. For serious UFO researchers or long-time enthusiasts, it’s a goldmine, offering thousands of books, magazines, and original articles. If you’ve got time and curiosity, you could spend days here. But if you’re just a casual visitor looking for a dramatic retelling or visual recreation of the Roswell incident, this may feel underwhelming. That brings us to what’s missing. There’s a crash simulation video reenactment, but it’s not of the 1947 Roswell crash. You obviously won’t find any original debris or declassified documents, only replicas and interpretive summaries. Interactive exhibits are minimal, and while there are a few side rooms with additional content, most of it is modest in scope. Roswell itself is quite isolated, with very little else to do in the area. The museum can be fully explored in two to three hours, and for many visitors, a half-day is more than enough. If seeing it is a lifelong curiosity or bucket-list item, it’s worth the drive. But don’t expect a sprawling entertainment complex. A side note: The front desk staff mentioned to my wife and I that the actual crash site was once open to visitors, but access has been revoked due to repeated issues with disrespectful tourists. Today, it’s just a quiet ranch with no public entry. In the end, I’d rate the museum three out of five stars. One star off because I hoped for a deeper focus on the Roswell crash itself, and another due to the location’s remoteness and lack of surrounding attractions. Final thought: If you’re passionate about UFO history and love digging into primary sources, this place has real value. But if you’re chasing a cinematic experience or looking for definitive answers, you may leave with more questions than when you arrived. Either way, safe travels, and keep an open mind.

This is such a fun place to visit whether you are a believer in UFOs or a skeptic. There are so many displays & pictures to read about, so you can make up tour own mind based upon the information provided. You can spend anywhere from a couple hours to all day. Would highly recommend & would happily return.
Tina S — Google review
Fun museum to wander thru! A lot to see & read. There is also a 25 minute video. Good price for admission.
Irene E — Google review
It was great to get to this museum. It is small and easily navigable. Lots of photos and reading, some video, on display, done on a timeline- more of a historical recount of significant events and people, very informative for newbies. My favorite part of the museum was the back wall which displays a quote by Stan Friedman. The gift shop has something for everyone! Parking is easy, the museum has two lots one right next to the building, the other is directly across the street. This really is a must see for anyone interested in the topic. It will take a leisurely one hour to get through it, if you are intent on reading all parts of the exhibit, you will need more time. The museum is located right in the heart of the Main Street of Roswell close to other attractions and restaurants. It is an easy walk in any direction to see other things on your check list.
D H — Google review
This was a walk on your own museum tour. They have every alien ufo encounter documented in binders. You learn as much as you read for yourself! They do allow pets on the tour which is so helpful when traveling with fur buddy’s!!!
J A — Google review
We always look for fun, unconventional attractions in our travels and this museum certainly fit the bill. Doesn't matter if you're a believer or skeptic it's a nice place to visit. There are some cornball displays that will amuse you, and some more serious displays that just might leave you questioning some things. A real highlight of our trip and definitely recommended

Billy The Kid Museum

Museum
History Museums
Welcome to the Billy The Kid Museum! What a great stop off through NM. If you are an Old west history buff or just want to see something interesting “ Then Partner mosey on down to this museum! “ Looks small on the outside but you will be pleasantly surprised how much they have on display in side. There is a very nice small display of genuine Billy the Kid artifacts on display in the Billy the Kid room…the curtain and door with bullet holes was eerie ! Lots of great information to read about. So much newspaper articles and pictures to get you interested in find out about this period in the old west. Not just great display of Billy the Kid items but you got to see Pancho Villa and other western characters that shaped that period in time. Lots of personal artifacts to look at and so many other hidden gems, you stumble upon while you walk around. They have a reconstruction of the gravesite of Billy the Kid what was cool ( we had just seen the original up in Fort Summers visitors center for free) and it was great to be able to read it better on the reconstruction. They have so much to look at , you will need plenty of time to walk around and see everything on display. We were there for a few hours and still didn’t get to really study and read about everything, definitely will have to come back again. They have a huge gift shop and something for everyone. Pretty reasonably priced for some of the gifts. Very clean restrooms and decent amount of parking. We were there on a weekday and it was crowded. Staff were very nice and thanked us for coming. I would definitely recommend this museum it’s worth the price of admission and they have a lot to catch your interest and not just Billy the Kid stuff.
Tommy G — Google review
Really cool place with a HUGE gift shop, museum has many things of the era beyond just Billy the Kid stuff and lots of interesting facts and memorabilia. The entry is inexpensive and worth it, stop in even if you don't have time for a full tour of the museum just the shop is worth a stop.
Xavier K — Google review
$6 for seniors or $7 regular entry. I'm surprised there was so much to see inside. It's like taking a step back into the early 1800's. Tons of information about Billy the Kid and his friends. Plan on spending 60-90 minutes seeing everything and reading about all the items and how they relate to Billy. Worth the stop.
Rita F — Google review
Really awesome place, if you like Billy the kid and antiques you will love this place. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that the 2 ladies working there were either not having a good day or just don't like there job because they were not pleasant. But I still recommend seeing this it really is awesome.
Collins — Google review
We made an impromptu stop at this fascinating destination on our return trip to Texas. Although unplanned, the visit proved to be a delightful surprise. The site boasts an impressive array of memorabilia and intriguing facts, with plenty to explore, including an expansive gift shop.
Bianca M — Google review
Great local history about Billy the Kid and people from the night he was shot including his friend and owner of the home he was shot in, Pete Maxwell. Also a lot of great historical items from the early 1800s to the 1960s. Great little museum.
Kenneth B — Google review
We stopped by on a Sunday, and they were closed. But we did see some interesting things on the outside of the museum. We are hoping to go back on a different vacation in the future. Just not sure when.
Susan M — Google review
The stuff about Billy the Kid is fascinating, but this museum also has so much more to offer. It's a stroll through decades of American history, well preserved and presented.

Blue Hole

Water
Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Clear blue pool of water, with underwater caves & a 17° temperature, popular with swimmers & divers.
This has got to be one of the top 10 places to take your family on vacation / swimming $10 to park ypur car, picnic tables and plenty of shade. 61 degree water. Great place for little kids as well.
Trevor D — Google review
Breathtaking nature, clear blue water, and a peaceful vibe—don’t miss it! The Blue Hole is truly a hidden gem in the New Mexico desert! The natural beauty of the crystal-clear, deep blue water surrounded by rugged stone is absolutely breathtaking. It’s one of those places that surprises you with how stunning it is in person.
Ashley H — Google review
Visited the Blue Hole in New Mexico on a Friday. Parking was free that day (normally $10), and I even managed to park my truck bobtail with no problem. The place is amazing — very few people around, crystal-clear but freezing cold water, and you can swim or even schedule a scuba dive. There are picnic tables, a small museum, and a souvenir shop. A great spot to relax and spend quality time with family.
Valdemar — Google review
Such a GORGEOUS place. The water is literally SO COLD, but so refreshing at the same time. It is also so clear and when you look down with goggles on, it is insane to be able to see straight clear to the bottom. Really cheap to go to, as well.
Keziah M — Google review
This was the best adventure for the whole family. It's 62 degrees all year round. and a see through lake. Amazing place.
Carleigh D — Google review
My girlfriend and I stopped by here on a Grand Canyon Road trip in July. This place was a highlight of the trip. It was only $10 for a parking pass. The parking was right next to the hole itself. They have lifeguards on duty. There are picnic areas, bathrooms, and a gift store. The water looks amazing. I'm now planning on seeing blue holes anywhere I travel. It was also great that you can swim in it or even dive into it from the natural rock. We jumped in a couple times (cold water) and had a picnic there. We saw some scuba divers show up to go down it too. It's really spectacular to see and swimming in it was amazing.
JC E — Google review
The lake is not wide or large however the interesting thing about it is depth. I visited in winter but I imagine it’s great to get in a dive in the summer.
Safa H — Google review
The best spot to swim in new Mexico . So refreshing. We stop and jump in every time we pass through. It's a family tradition

Route 66 Auto Museum

Mentioned on
2 lists
Museum
Specialty Museums
Nestled along the iconic Route 66, the Route 66 Auto Museum is a delightful gem for car enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This charming mom-and-pop establishment showcases an impressive collection of around 30 classic, vintage, and hot rod cars that tell stories of automotive evolution. As you wander through its nostalgic displays filled with memorabilia from the famous highway, you'll find yourself immersed in a world where chrome shines bright and every vehicle has a tale to share.
7-17-25 I don’t know why, but I didn’t ask the ladies name that was working there today, shame on me, she was pleasant and should be acknowledged. Here’s to you, thank you. This was a bonus stop that you can only do when you are doing a road trip. I just never know where you’re gonna be. I love the history of Route 66 back in the day my family had a Hugh connection with that road. We’ve been on most of it, but not all of it and it’s always fun to hit another part. I’m not sure why I had to buy another hat, but I did. The museum was fabulous. Not just the cars, but all the paraphernalia, and the old signs were great.. I WOULD RECOMMEND
Cindy L — Google review
If you are planning a road trip down Route 66, you absolutely must add this stop. Probably in my top 10 of all stops along Route 66. We drove Route 66 from Illinois to New Mexico during Sick 66 Drag and Drive. This location is easy to stop at being right along side the highway. It has plenty of parking for cars or campers. Everyone inside is super friendly. When we stopped here there was a food truck outside. Not sure if that's a regular occurrence but definitely worth trying if they are on site when you visit.
Thomas L — Google review
Very nice museum & gift shop. Everything is neatly displayed. I enjoyed my visit & shopping in the gift shop for souvenirs. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area! They even have a few vehicles for sale!
Lynn F — Google review
The Route 66 Auto Museum in Santa Rosa, New Mexico is a hidden gem that every hardcore car enthusiast needs to experience. Packed with over 30 beautifully restored classics, hot rods, muscle cars, and vintage trucks, this place is pure passion on wheels. Founded by local legend James “Bozo” Cordova, every vehicle in the collection reflects hands-on craftsmanship and deep love for automotive history. It’s not just a museum—it’s a working shop, a visual tribute to Route 66 heritage, and even a place where some of the cars are for sale. From the authentic 50s-era vibe to the gleaming chrome and rich backstories behind each ride, it’s a must-stop for anyone who lives and breathes horsepower.

What a fantastic place! I enjoyed looking at the old, unrestored cars. Each one has its own unique personality, unlike modern cars. I highly recommend visiting this place and taking a photo as a souvenir.

Fort Union National Monument

National reserve
Sights & Landmarks
Wagon-wheel ruts on the site of 3 successive forts, designated a national monument in 1954.
A quick drive up Hwy 161 from I-25 and you can experience the sights of the Santa Fe Trail and historic significance of Fort Union built and rebuilt in the 1800's.
Wesley B — Google review
This is actually three forts, although only the last remains standing. Constructed largely of adobe, the fort, along with the hospital were some of the largest adobe structures built. Sitting on the Santa Fe trail, this outpost protected settlers, travelers, and many of the native Americans from each other and invasions from neighboring Mexico. A self guided tour provides substantial detail about the buildings and life at the fort.
Scott B — Google review
What a wonderful look at the past. You really get a feel of how westward expansion was taking place and how quickly the nation was changing in the mid 1800's Bring a hat and sunscreen as other have suggested. Unfortunately, the park store was doing inventory during visiting hours, so we were unable to purchase any souvenirs.
Richard S — Google review
Great stop! Rich history and free, can't beat that! Trailer/RV/truck parking available
Bash J — Google review
I would describe this park as Fort Sumter meets Pompeii. It’s a fort with ruins the equivalent of Pompeii. Took me about sixty minutes to walk the grounds where the fort was located and another thirty minutes inside the museum. Outside the park is the Santa Fe Trail Mountain Ruts which was really cool to see. The two NP guys inside were extremely helpful and friendly. Very beautiful scenery at and around the fort.
Susan H — Google review
Amazing site. It is very well maintained and easily accessible. There are two spaces for parking travel trailers. This was a wonderful stop to stretch our legs and marvel at what people could build in the 1800's. The staff were very knowledgeable and pleasant. The historical display inside was great. Don't pass by if you are in the area. You won't regret stopping.
James S — Google review
Nice location to stop. Beautiful countryside and the ruins are nice. Park staff were friendly, but a little dismissive of the kids in their Jr. Ranger program. Very little space for RVs, if you are traveling with them and park staff won't let you take up multiple spaces to park They let us park in the entry area and walk in.
Brandon — Google review
This place was amazing, full of history and amazing sights. It'd a bit off the beaten path but it's well worth the drive. You can walk out and stand on the actual Santa Fe trail. They have decent parking, a gift shop and restrooms available. Entry was free when we went .

Mills Canyon Campground

Campground
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
This is a remote area and I would listen to the recommendations, don’t try to take a trailer or long rv down into the canyon. There is a campground on the rim that will handle bigger rigs and the road down is nearby. The road down is rough and rocky and gets muddy in places following precipitation. In most cases, higher clearance (Subaru/small suv and up) 2wd vehicles could pass without issue. No cell signal or water here (ATT and other providers have service on the rim), pit toilets at both campgrounds, pack out your trash. Nearest fuel/food is Springer, NM. Mosquero has a nice country store and public restrooms (saved us on a field trip!). The canyon is great for tent or open camping. Keep your coolers and food locked away when appropriate, we found fresh bear tracks during our visit. Let’s keep the bears wild, please don’t allow them to associate food with humans.
Texas W — Google review
Roads: 9 miles of gravel road to get into forest service area are well maintained. If it rains, the last half mile can be muddy and slick, but the road is packed underneath. The 2 miles to get to the lower campground are rocky. Safe, but rocky. 100% doable in a truck/jeep/etc, but also very doable in a crossover if you take it slowly. Taking a trailer down to the canyon floor would be foolish, especially since there are multiple stretches were two cars cannot fit side by side, so you may have to back up. Campgrounds: Campground on the rim has great camping spots, 3 of which have 2 covered horse pens each with more than enough room to park a 4h trailer. Each camping spot had at least 1 picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Tent spots were fairly level and clear of vegetation. The vault toilets did have water leaking into them while we were there. Campground on the canyon floor was not as well maintained vegetation-wise. It appeared that they don't want you to go to the river because there are no clear paths, so you have to forge your own. You can walk back up towards the rim and take the ATV road to a safer water crossing. Vault toilets were dry here. Ruins The ruins of the Mills orchard were further down the canyon floor. The plaques along the road and at the ruins have good info. Misc. Bring all the mosquito repellent or have adequate clothing!

As of Sept 2025, the campground is in bad shape. A summer of big rains has turned the canyon floor to a jungle of 4 foot tall tumbleweeds and kochia. Not a pleasant environment to hike in. Most of the campsites are unmaintained and covered with grasses so tall you cant even see the parking areas. The lower sites are a bit better. I spent a couple hours clearing tumbleweeds out of site 11, so it is decent. I don't think forest service has done any maintenance in a long while. Just saying….

This place is amazing, but it is not for the casual camper. First it is 9 miles on a good dirt road to get to the edge of the canyon. Then you have 4 miles drive down a narrow and steep at times dirt/rock road to the valley floor. The campsites are great. They are clean and have a table, fire pit and grill. There are also very nice, clean toilets. However, there is no water available of any kind. There is also no power if you need it and shade is sparce. A pop up canopy is a great addition especially in the summer months. It can get very hot during the day in the canyon. Bring a couple of gallons of water per person per day. There isn't any good river access and in the summer the river is not flowing or inviting. The ruins are interesting and the canyon is spectacular. There are old roads you can use to hike on but there is not a formal trial system. Don't expect to see people either so you need to be ok being alone in the wilderness with no cell signal. Labor Day weekend there was only one other party in the entire park.

This canyon is a true hidden gem. Yes, the reviews are true. It's a bit of a trek getting down into the canyon. Has a sign that says RVs and Trailers are not recommended. From pavement to the campsites is over 5 miles at least. There are a few hiking trails, old settlement buildings, and information panels for the canyon. Very well maintained area with very clean vault toilets. This is primitive camping, meaning no water or electricity, so be sure to plan accordingly to enjoy this beautiful place.

First trip here. Road is definitely a little nerve racking but well worth it. No campfires 🔥 were allowed but still had a great time. Ended up being pretty full but was Easter weekend. Toilets were clean and well stocked.

Had a great time 3 days in the canyon

Upper campground is very dry and windswept. Several sites have covered corrals. The road down is an adventure, but no real problems. But it is quite a bit further down and further along, to the bottomland campground. Several miles, the first two being real doozies. The campsites at the bottom are nowhere near the river. A scramble through snake infested underbrush for about 40 yards will get you to the river bank.

Winter sports is an awesome shop! They have the best inventory in Angel Fire by far! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend.

Usually has really good equipment. Used to have very good service. Has gone downhill with their kindness and service over the years. They will only serve a few amount of people per day and pick and choose who they want to rent to. Calling the day before to make sure that they’re open the next day will not suffice. Might have to go to Eagle Nest to rent.

Eddie is the BEST & so knowledgable! I have always had trouble finding boots that are comfortable because of the metal plates in my leg, but he was able to customize a pair of ski boots by heating & forming them specifically to fit around the metal hardware. I had zero problems or pain at all while skiing this trip! Everyone in the shop is so friendly and willing to help out customers! Highly recommend these guys.

Reserved skis for 7 days for our family of 6 to ski at Angel Fire resort. They charged my card immediately upon making my reservation online (even though the website stated it will only charge a $10 deposit per person) initially. Don’t even attempt to speak with someone to confirm your reservation by phone, as they redirect you to an 800 number that puts you on hold and after holding 5 minutes will leave you no option but to leave a voicemail. Getting fitted for our equipment and paying we’re the only smooth transactions with this place. The worst part was there were 5 trails open at the resort and our kids grew quite bored with the same runs for 6 days. We turned our skis in 1 day early and they would not offer a refund for the one day. I was asked why we were not skiing the 7th day when I asked for a refund, and when I stated there was no snow on the mountain was told, “yes there is!”. They offered an Angel fire gift card! A lot of good that does someone from Mississippi! Won’t rent here if we ever actually return. The shop we usually use is the second one upon entering Angel Fire and I have never had a problem with them. I only rented from this shop because it was located right next to our condo.

Just bought ski boots and a helmet at Winter Sports. Eddie was very knowledgeable and very helpful in helping me select the right boot. His pleasant demeanor was just icing on the cake. Other staff were pleasant and helpful as well when calling to check equipment availability. Will definitely shop here again when needed.

Rented Ski Stuff for the only slopes on the mountain i was comfortable with to be closed. Jan told me “You can cry all you want but i won’t refund you.” No solutions like “Maybe you can just wait it out” or something. The customer service here was far beyond disappointing. I couldn’t really get a word in anyway. Super disappointed

Rude, ranting at us because our mask wasn't on completely before we entered the building, the only business that treated us that way while at Angel Fire Skiing for 5 days. If I hadn't already made a deposit, would have walked out. Every year we spend over a thousand dollars here. We purchase the whole family ski rentals and LOTS of accessories, such as backpacks, goggles, helmets and whatever they want for their vacation, as the family shops when they get there. Won't ever darken their doorsteps again.

Have gone here for years and it keeps going downhill. No pun intended The service is slow, computer system does not work. When they make mistakes they do nothing to make up for their mistakes. They use to be a nice run locally owned and operated ski shop. Now they work strictly off of a computer program that does not work and are under staffed. They have lost a patron of 10 years.Took over an hour to get set up today at 3:00 on a Friday.

Enchanted Circle Pottery is an absolute gem! Jo and Kevin are incredibly talented artists and wonderful hosts. They walked us through the entire pottery-making process—from shaping the clay to firing it in the kiln—and it was fascinating to see the amount of detail and passion that goes into each piece. The pottery is stunning and truly one-of-a-kind. If you’re looking for authentic, handcrafted art and an amazing learning experience, this is the place to go. Highly recommend stopping in!

This place is breathtakingly magical not just because of the beautiful art, but because of Kevin and Jo! This dynamic duo welcomed my husband and I with warmth and made us feel right at home, and not just because this gallery-pottery studio is their home! Both are SO passionate about pottery, and I was so glad that they were more than happy to share their knowledge about pottery. I felt like I was in my own personal tour! The hardest thing about coming here was saying goodbye and trying my hardest not to buy everything. They have functional & decorative pieces with prices that can fit any budget. Truly loved this magical stop on our road trip through New Mexico. Can’t wait to come back! I added some pictures of their gallery and last ones are the pieces I brought back home with me :)

A visit to Enchanted Circle Pottery should be on your Must Do list if you appreciate and love fine art pottery as well as practical-use pottery that both have a unique style so fitting for the beautiful area in New Mexico where they are created. My friends and I stopped at Enchanted Circle Pottery while driving the Enchanted Circle and were greeted with a warm welcome and quick tour by Kevin and Joanne of their workshop and operational process. We spent much time in the Gallery admiring the abundance of beautiful, artful pottery. I really appreciated how Kevin and Joanne encouraged me to view pieces next to each other and even walk away to see if I had the same feeling when I viewed again. Both Enchanted Circle Pottery and Kevin and Joanne are a treasure and I look forward to returning with more friends! Thank You Kevin and Joanne!

This pottery shop is worth the drive out of Taos and into their driveway. You will be greeted by two talented artists who are excited to show you their work, their process, their history and their huge wood fired kiln. This is an experience not just a trip into a small studio. We walked away with some unique and wonderful vases and plates but there is pottery and a price point for everyone. Plus the view from their studio is worth the stop.

A must see when in the area. Kevin and Jo have created a unique pottery venue in the side of a mountain. We were welcomed with open arms and given a personal tour of the entire operation. The display area is actually their home. The hard part is deciding which of their unique works to purchase. Terri and I highly recommend a visit here, even if it is out of your way. It’s just a short jaunt from Taos.

While on vacation, as we were driving down the beautiful Enchanted Circle Drive in New Mexico, we came upon Enchanted Circle Pottery where we finally found the perfect canisters for our new kitchen. (We've only been looking high and low for 3 months!) We thoroughly enjoyed our visit with master artists Kevin and JoAnne DeKeuster. Their beautiful home/studio/gallery/kiln, which they built approximately 25 years ago, is located on the side of a hill with stunning views. Kevin gave us a tour of their operation and of their gorgeous, unique artwork on display there. It was a wonderful, eye-opening experience as we learned about the extensive process that each piece goes through. We came away with a new-found appreciation of wood-fired pottery and a set of beautiful canisters that we will treasure for many, many years to come. We highly recommend a visit to Enchanted Circle Pottery - in person and online.

My family and I stopped by Enchanted Circle Pottery and had such a delightful experience. I initially thought we were just visiting a typical pottery shop, but it turned out to be so much more. We were warmly welcomed and given a tour of the full studio by Kevin, who shared the fascinating process behind their beautiful work. Not only did we learn how the pottery is made, but we also got to hear wonderful stories from the owners that made the visit even more memorable. I was thrilled to find some pieces I had been searching for. Highly recommended for anyone in the area!

Our troop went there in the mid 70s with some people from other troops. Did a lot of hiking and wonderfully beautiful Land. Carrying our gear and backpacks. Such a beautiful, beautiful area! Unforgettable experience. Highly recommended! And to get there was an old school bus! That in itself was an experience! Trying to stay comfortable and at least survive the trip as young boys! My father was the scoutmaster and rode in the bus with us while the other men and women going down there were riding in RVs. Thank you, dad!

Capulin Volcano National Monument

Park
Nature & Parks
National park featuring a dormant volcano with hiking trails around the base & in the crater.
It was so awesome to see this volcano/crater! We were out for a drive while visiting the area and found this monument park. The view is amazing! There us a walkway around the top of the crater and one to the center of the crater. The visitor center was informational and had a gift shop. It is a great experience and worth the time and money. How cool is it to actually climb down into a volcano!
Gina B — Google review
Capulin Volcano National Monument Review We visited Capulin Volcano National Monument in early July and really enjoyed it! The site was easy in, easy out — very convenient, especially if you're traveling with a rig or larger vehicle. It was a bit warm during our visit (typical for this time of year), so be sure to bring water and sun protection. The trails are definitely walkable, but they’re not the best maintained. It’s smart to wear pants to avoid brush and bring a walking stick for better footing. Also, be on the lookout for rattlesnakes — we were warned, though we didn’t see any ourselves. One of the most fascinating parts of the visit was seeing the lava rocks up close. Along the trails, you can spot different types of volcanic rock and old lava flow formations. It was especially interesting to see the vents and lava tubes — natural channels where the lava once flowed. You really get a sense of the power that shaped this place. Admission was $20 per vehicle (up to 15 people), and they do enforce a vehicle size limit. If your RV or rig is longer than 26 feet, you won’t be allowed to drive to the top — but if you’re towing a smaller vehicle, you can unhook and take that up instead. Best of all, the Visitor Center hands out free maps, which came in handy for navigating the area and learning more about the volcano’s history and geology.

I had visited Capulin when I was a child and went back for the first time in probably 30 years! It was so much fun driving to the top, walking the rim trail and hiking down into the crater. The hike is a bit strenuous around the rim for anyone that is not used to elevation, but so worth the view. We saw so much wildlife and enjoyed every bit of our experience. To know before you go, you purchase your pass at the visitor center before driving up. The top is over 8,000 feet in elevation and climbs quickly as you drive. If you are afraid of heights and don't like to drive without a guard rail on the outside lane, be advised, there is no guardrail 😊 If you are pulling a trailer or camper you will have to drop it at the visitor center, only vehicles are allowed up or if you are really adventurous they allow for foot traffic, but no shoulder to go up safely. Make sure to check out the exhibits and the video in the theater room at the visitor center. All in all, it's well worth the trip and climb to the top! We are definitely going back on one of their Night Sky viewing parties from the base and can't wait to take our kiddos!

This is a pretty cool place. For a small fee you get to drive up to the very tip top and walk around the crater or you could walk down inside. Beautiful scenery on the way up and down. The staff here is excellent as well.

Finally marking this off my bucket list. The Crater Rim Trail has some amazing views and well worth the less than mile hike to enjoy it. The staff were super friendly, nice, and professional. Found the Benchmark just a few feet away from the elevation sign.

Road closed due to the government shutdown. 2 miles each way plus a mile around the crater. Very interesting information boards along the way. Nice views. Very solitary on Wednesday evening in October. Can see the bottom of the crater from the upper parking lot. Clean pit bathrooms in the upper parking lot. Pinon pines with occasional nuts along the way. Crows, blue jays, deer.
Vilma B — Google review
This is definitely worth the detour! We saw the sign on the side of the road and decided to stop and it was really worth it. The rangers and staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. The drive to the summit shows you surrounding views of the entire area. The hike down into the crater was fairly easy, and we were able to spot several deer while inside the crater
Jeff S — Google review
I stopped here to break up a long drive. It turned out to be a good choice. Stayed for about two hours and used my National Park pass. There is a nice trail around the top of the old volcano and into it. Couple other trails at the base if that interests you. Good views of the area. Watch out for the afternoon thunderstorms during monsoon season.

Sugarite Canyon State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Two lakes for fishing & boating, plus camping, hiking & views on the site of a historic coal camp.
Wowww!!! We were so happy to find this place by accident! We were looking for a last minute quick getaway to a higher elevation for Labor Day weekend, and Sugarite Canyon did not disappoint! We were able to snag a tent site at the Little Horse Mesa and it was such a beautiful site! Sugarite was originally a mining community that has now been preserved as a state park. There is camping available, fishing at 2 different lakes, and hiking trails. You can also visit the old mining town ruins and walk an interpretive hiking trail and see the old home ruins and artifacts from the mine. It was incredibly interesting to learn about this part of history and walk through it! Definitely check this area out, it's well worth the trip!

Nice place to camp. We stayed there in a class B RV. Beautiful surroundings. Only negative is our Lake Alice Loop did not have modern restrooms and showers. But our park host kept the vault toilets spotless and the sites clean. We had water and 30 amp power. The have notice regarding their water system not meeting certain standards and you are advised to boil. While there is a place to dump there was no water available there. There are reported to be modern restroom and showers at the park entrance but we did not check out.
Ransom J — Google review
We enjoy history and were limited on time so we opted to hike Coal Camp. The remnants were well labelled so we were able to appreciate what we were looking at the entire time. The park is well maintained. We did see numerous deer, and were not able to make it up to Mine #3 due to a brown bear blocking the route.
Addison T — Google review
Beautiful Park with nice landscapes surrounding you. The park itself feels pretty small. It also has an area that's access by 4wd only which would've been nice to know in advance. No paper maps offered, limited bathrooms(and gross), and limited trails make me feel like this park is super overpriced. I enjoyed my visit, but wouldn't come back due to things listed above. Maybe if it was free... But doubt it. Too small.

The camp is so beautiful! Very quiet with low traffic. I cannot describe the peace you can find hiking on the trails. And the history! It was so cool to see the coal camp and to be able to actually see coal on the mountain side was awesome.

Really loved this NM State Park. We car camped & hiked, but there’s clearly a large draw for fishermen. Particularly enjoyed the Coal Camp trail outside of the visitor’s center & the Little Horse Mesa Trail near the Soda Pocket campground. The foliage was so green & we saw so much wildlife (elk, deer, rabbits, birds, snakes, etc.)

Trinidad Lake State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park
Scenic state park with 800-acre lake offering fishing, hiking, camping & summertime family programs.
I took my dog to Carpios Cove so she could get a refreshing swim before we hit the other trails in the park. The water level was high and shoreline was mostly sandstone so the doggo didn't turn into a muddy mess after the swim. Other trails were nice but very dry with no water access.

Came ere to camp for a few nights and loved the campsite. Lake was great and the hike was fun! Wish they had more full hookup RV spots but the dump site is very close.
David Y — Google review
This location will take you to the office so you can pay 10$ for day use, camping is a little more but worth it or you can probably pay online...scenery is awesome there's also a little park for kids so definitely recommended for small to medium sized groups. You will have to drive like 5 minutes to the actual swimming area of the lake, I wouldn't recommend trying to get down to the lake from up top because it's steep and could get dangerous for the average folk. Good luck and Stay Safe!
Israel S — Google review
We have stayed in this park three times in the last year: July 2024, August 2024, and September 2025. It is one of our favorite places to stay in our RV for a number of reasons. Big camping spaces, great fire pits, excellent weather, trails and bike paths, and lovely location. There are only a few spots with full hook ups, which we prefer, but we stayed one night on the South Shore with no hook ups and loved the remoteness of dry camping. We generally use our own shower when we camp, but we used the nearby showers which were clean with plenty of hot water. Be patient with the laundry as you can only use credit cards and the machines are finicky. We paid $41 a night plus parking passes for our RV and our tow vehicle. Seemed redundant to me and I couldn’t help wonder why we had to pay twice. Probably cheaper if you get a state park pass. If you come to Trinidad on a First Friday, make sure you go to the Art Walk. The Hilton has a good happy hour Monday - Friday. In the early summer, catch a Trinidad Triggers baseball game. If you are pickleball players, the city has just installed excellent courts at Los Ninos Park and people play most days at 8:00am.
Linne C — Google review
If you're looking for a lakeside escape with a touch of wild charm, Trinidad Lake State Park definitely delivers. Just don’t forget your bug spray and sense of humor. The lake itself is gorgeous. Serene waters set against rolling hills and open skies serve up some of the most breathtaking sunsets we've seen in a long time. Think pastel clouds, golden reflections, and that perfect evening hush that makes you pause and just be. Bring a camera or at least the urge to stop and stare. Fishing? Oh, yes. The lake is loaded. Whether you're an expert angler or just tossing a line in for fun, chances are good you'll catch something… or at least get a great story trying. Now, let’s talk about the real stars of the park: the bugs. If you're a fan of grasshoppers, this is your Disneyland. They're everywhere! Hopping across trails, surprising you mid-step, and generally making sure you know you’re not alone. Add in a variety of other winged, crawling, and chirping critters, and you’ve got a very active little ecosystem keeping you company. It's all part of the charm. Unless you're squeamish. In which case: bug spray. Lots. The only thing we really wished for? A few more trees or shaded spots near the water. On hot days, the sun can feel relentless, and finding a cool place to rest takes some effort. A little extra greenery would go a long way for comfort and aesthetics. But the wide open views have their own appeal. Overall, Trinidad Lake State Park is a scenic, peaceful, and slightly buggy adventure worth having. Pack a hat, bring your sense of adventure, and enjoy the quirky beauty of southern Colorado.

Beautiful place, man made lake but with charm and cool vistas. Park has lots of amenities like: Boat Ramp , camping grounds, trails, kids play sets and lots of Grill bungalows all round.

Beautiful lake just outside of Trinidad. The camp grounds are broken into a cluster up on the north ridge or along the south shore. Unfortunately, the shore is a long distance, so not close enough to walk to. The north ridge has a few amazing trails and some camp sites with good views. The south side is more remote, but views are all fantastic. The north ridges has amenities, but south shore only has a few bathrooms, but no water or electricity. The lake itself is great because they limit sports, so it was pretty easy to kayak and SUP. It’s also 10 minutes to Walmart, so no worries about forgetting anything.
Kenny H — Google review
The park has a variety of trails, suitable for a range of abilities, and some beautiful scenery. Dominated by the lake, I visited the park for one specific reason: to get up close to the thin band of rock that is evidence of the impact of a huge extraterrestrial object, 66 million years ago. Known as the K-Pg (aka K-T) boundary layer, Trinidad Lake State Park is one of a handful of places where this layer, rich in extraterrestrial iridium, can be seen up close and personal. A short drive on an unpaved road followed by a 20 minute stroll along a track, took me to the layer. A single interpretation board, and a bench, mark the spot. After a short scramble up the bank to touch the layer, and some photos, I sat on the bench and considered how different life on Earth would look if the asteroid had missed our planet, all those years ago. As I pondered, a lizard emerged from undergrowth, to bask alongside me on a nearby rock. Perhaps it also wondered...

Bishop Castle

Mentioned on
1 list
Sights & Landmarks
Castle
Bishop Castle is a unique and fascinating stone structure built by local resident Jim Bishop over the course of his lifetime. The castle, which features bridges, turrets, and even a fire-breathing dragon all handmade by Bishop himself, offers self-guided tours and includes a gift shop. Despite legal battles and complaints, the castle continues to stand as a testament to Bishop's dedication and creativity. Visitors can explore the castle for free but should be cautious as they navigate its various levels.
Really cool and fun place. Just be careful some areas are potentially dangerous, and disclaimers are clearly in place. Many climbing places do not have handrails and some parts of the floor in the staircases are missing so just be careful while exploring the place, read the sign at the entrance and enter at your own risk. Also don't miss the gift shop which is small but cool.

This castle was definitely worth the visit! We were driving back to Albuquerque from Colorado and wanted to visit the castle on our way home. The drive was there was so beautiful, truly scenic! When we arrived at the castle, I was in complete awe over the place. There was plenty of parking and clean restrooms. The animals from the squirrels to the goats were so charming. Exploring the castle was fun and exciting and a little scary in places. But you get to choose where you go and what you do, explore completely on your own which I loved! There was a violinist playing amazing music in the great main room which definitely added to the experience. There's a snack area and a gift shop as well. I highly recommend the visit and the drive! I would also recommend donated a few dollars when you do visit. I think the owners are very generous to open this space to the public and not charge. Even the snack area which offered snacks and cold drinks, charged on an honor system. Very cool!!!!

Such a beautiful hand made castle! As you would expect with a project of this magnitude being done by just one person for the bulk of it, there are still a lot of places where the floor and wall don't meet, or holes in stairs that are yet to be fixed. The design of it is super cool though, and there are lots of places to climb to breathtaking views. This place has City Museum vibes, but a little sketchier. Willard, Jim, and now Robert have made something really cool. They have magnets and keychains in the gift shop. There is also a little snack stand with hot food and sweets. Entry is completely free, but donations accepted. When we went there was a chainsaw art guy and axe throwing. We went in mid- October, the weather was perfect and the crowd was minimal.

Such a unique roadside attraction! Definitely worth seeing if you're anywhere nearby. There's a bit of a Mad Max vibe going on. Do be warned though that there are signs very clearly stating you are entering at your own risk and your safety is not guaranteed.

This is a quirky offbeat free adventure. I read the founder of Colorado Springs built this Castle and used to live in it (not sure though). It is definitely a unique place and worth the trip if you're in the area. It's about 20 miles off of the highway. Be careful and watch where you step, there are a few broken steps or loose flooring - there is a sign stating they are not responsible for accidents. Go enjoy the cool views, winding staircases and balconies.

This is a very interesting place to visit. I didn't go up into the towers. Unfortunately the gift shop was closed when we were there today. The castle is free to enter. I spoke with person who told me that Mr. Bishop had died sometime in the last year. They accept donations.
Dawne K — Google review
Great place to visit. I just hope people won't vandalize it. Additional safety for spots that people would likely go to and take pictures. It's free.
Chester F — Google review
Such a cool place! Definitely worth the visit. The drive is beautiful. I recommend visiting during the weekdays. Less people and you can enjoy more space to yourself. They also have an area behind the castle to feed goats and chickens. Bring quarters.

Historic Arkansas Riverwalk

The Historic Arkansas Riverwalk in Pueblo, Colorado offers a family-friendly experience with various activities and events such as boat rides and concerts. Once a bustling area for Native Americans and frontiersmen, the district surrounding the Arkansas River was revitalized after being devastated by a historic flood in 1921. Today, it is a vibrant mixed-use district featuring dining, shopping, lodging, parks, and green spaces. The Riverwalk hosts community events, festivals, concerts, and more.
Lots of trees, grass and plenty of space to walk. If you are into local history it is a good spot to visit. They offer short boat tours or paddle boats for rent. There is also lots of places to eat that are along the river. If you are visiting Pueblo and want something quick but also nice to do, I recommend doing the river walk.
Christen D — Google review
Wanted a small break on our way to Carlsbad from Denver. Stopped at Angelino's for a pizza and enjoy the fall weather. Not too many shops but the walk was very relaxing. Very dog friendly we were able to take our pup into the patio area for lunch.

Beautifully redesigned by Pueblo. Easy to get to, lots of free parking, a great place to take a stroll, restaurants along the walk, boat rides, public art, and movie in the park.

Water was dingy and gross green. We were there on a.l Saturday evening and expected lots of people and there was hardly anyone even around. Picked a place to go eat and have a drink. Walked in was seated. Waited for about 10 minutes without anyone coming to serve us- so we left and went back to hotel to order in with Door Dash. Would not recommend spending time or money to visit this place to others.

Royal Gorge Bridge & Park

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
Royal Gorge Bridge & Park is a 360-acre amusement park located atop a canyon with one of the highest suspension bridges globally. The 1260ft-long bridge was constructed in 1929 across the 950ft-deep Royal Gorge, which stretches for 10 miles west of Canon City.
Although I am rating this place 5 stars, I want to put a note out there. There is not a "Bridge only" option. Basically if you want to go out to the bridge, you are paying for that and all but one of the rides they offer there. I think Ziplining is excluded. I paid $39 to just access the place, which I think is a little much. If it was $25 to just see the bridge, then fine, but whatever. The view looking out and down at the Gorge is so relaxing and breathtaking. On a warm day, the wind up there is very relaxing and you just want to close your eyes and take it all in. I shot pictures of the 12:30PM Royal Gorge train outbound from Canon City which is a 15 minute drive from town. Seen from the bridge, almost looking down is the Hanging Bridge on the railroad, which of course is seen better from the train itself (See my review on that).

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Royal Gorge. The children enjoyed the playground, and we all enjoyed taking the gondola ride across the canyon. There were quite a few people there on the day we visited, but the grounds are expensive enough that it did not feel very crowded. We decided to take in the raptor show, and we’re very glad we did. Everyone really enjoyed it, and we thought it was much better than the 20 minute film about the gorge itself. My wife and I even did the zip line, and wow, it is quite expensive, we really enjoyed it and would recommend it! The bridge itself is pretty amazing and just walking back across it was one of the highlights
Kevin H — Google review
What a breathtaking place! The Royal Gorge is absolutely stunning — photos don’t even begin to capture the beauty and the scale of it all. We loved walking across the bridge, taking in the mountain views, and feeling that Colorado breeze. The flags lining the bridge make it even more special — like a walk through history and pride! The park is spotless and well maintained, and there are so many fun spots to stop for photos (especially near the water wheel and signs — those are musts!). It’s one of those places that makes you stop and really take in how incredible nature is. Highly recommend visiting if you’re anywhere near Canon City — it’s worth every minute of the drive. Gorgeous weather, gorgeous views, and a memory we’ll never forget!
Kim B — Google review
This is something everyone should put on their bucket list to see as it is truly amazing. We went early before it got windy and walked across the bridge. The scenery there is beautiful and the park itself is so nice and clean. We went on the gondola ride, saw the movie and a raptor show. Highly recommend.
Kristine S — Google review
An absolutely breathtaking experience from start to finish! The views of the Royal Gorge are stunning — truly one of the most spectacular places in Colorado. Walking across the bridge is both thrilling and peaceful at the same time, and the scenery below is something you’ll never forget. The park is very well maintained, with friendly staff who make you feel welcome and safe. The gondola ride gives you a whole new perspective of the canyon, and the zip line and sky coaster are a must if you’re up for an adrenaline rush! There are plenty of spots for photos, good food options, and areas to just relax and take in the view. Perfect for families, couples, or anyone wanting to experience one of Colorado’s most iconic attractions. Highly recommend spending a few hours here — it’s worth every minute! Walk the rim trail that's outside the park for some great photos
Mike H — Google review
The views are spectacular! The price for the tram is reasonable. For those that are not faint of heart there is a zip line to return you to the lodge side. But wait there is more. A giant swing will send you out to the edge of the gorge. The area is full of American history as well as fossils of ancient creatures. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Thomas W — Google review
The Royal Gorge was a fabulous experience. Riding the cable car across the gorge was the highlight for me. Walking the bridge isn’t too far either. Highly recommend both! My toddler loved that we could ride the carousel 10 times in a row. We enjoyed the playground and spent a little extra to let our kids mine for gems which was fun. We had a picnic lunch under one of the pavilions with our kids and after we ate at the BBQ place which had delicious cornbread. All in all, it’s a family-friendly atmosphere that allows you to slow down and enjoy the beauty of Colorado!
Alexi D — Google review
Great place, amazing views. Nice kids area. The free gondola ride across the Gorge was neat too. Only problem was we got fleeced for $10 and some change for the old West shooting range of which none of the features except two worked. Kids were disappointed with that.

Skyline Drive in Colorado is a short but stunning scenic route that offers breathtaking views of Canon City. This 2.6-mile road, completed in 1905 with labor from local inmates, features pullouts with viewing areas for visitors to stop and take in the splendor. The narrow one-way road follows the contour of a towering ridge along Route 50, offering expansive vistas and unique geological features such as dino tracks and a cool little cave.
Unreal experience. Unbelievable view. Plenty of places to pull off and take photos or even sit and enjoy the view. Also has a trail at the peak along with a bench. You won’t miss it. It’s a must visit if you’re in the area. Takes maybe 7 mins from start to end. Worth every second.
Abdul-Mateen S — Google review
Skyline drive is one way road with wonderful view of both sides. Only 15 miles/h is speed limit to drive safely. Old prisoners made this road and it's awesome driveway.
Keiko M — Google review
We did it! Im thankful we've been in Colorado for a few years now and got acclimated to the altitude and the mountain driving, or else this would have been quite terrifying!! Staying locally for a week we saw this and knew about it from others so we made the decision to just do it. Now we can say we have driven the Skyline road. There is no cost to drive yourself up. And it is only a 10-15min road, unless you stop and get out at places. I read that the local prisoners helped build it back in early 1900s, I think they did a great job 👍🏼 I will admit, as passenger, there was a sec there at one point I did feel my heart rate increase ❣️
Lea B — Google review
Super cool place to take a nice scenic drive. It's not very long, but the views are amazing. If you head up early in the am you can catch the sunrise from a few different spots. 👌🏽☀️ Definitely recommend. It's free and although there is no (none that I saw) wheelchair accessible parking spaces - you could totally enjoy this entire drive from the comfort of your vehicle. ❤️😇 There are no real parking spaces for anyone, just pull offs to take pictures. Go for it!! & Watch for bikes! Share the road.
Aimlame — Google review
Great views along this one way thrilling ride, not for the faint of heart or those afraid of heights. A couple of trails at the top that also leave you feeling "on edge". A must if you're in the area/ passing through and can handle it.

Finally made it there and I wasn’t disappointed! The road is narrow but the views ? Take the camera ! You won’t regret it !

A short and very scenic drive. A local shuttle driver we ran into on one of our hikes suggested we take this drive to see dinosaur footprints discovered in the 80s. We found the cliff wall but couldn't find the footprints. We, like bumbling tourist that we are, looked suitably dumbfounded; a nice local man and his four footed "Gracie" stopped his jeep and pointed the prints to us. He also gave us a bit of history. It turned out he is a tour guide for Colorado Jeep Tours. Info card to follow. A must short short to the end. You will end up in Canon City. It has a really lovely historic old Main St. with 95% of the stores open for business. It is literally blks from where you board the Royal Gorge train tour.

Nice view in this one-way road that ends in the town. A little bit narrow but really worth it. He videos and pictures doesn't show the real experience and the beauty of the place. Be careful I you are afraid of heights. Road is narrow and a little bit scary for some people.

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Colorado Springs, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo stands out as a premier conservation park that is home to over 700 animals. This unique mountain zoo offers visitors an array of interactive experiences, including the chance to feed giraffes and engage with various other species like goats and elephants. With its stunning exhibits such as the Asian Highlands and Rocky Mountain Wild, guests can explore diverse habitats while learning about endangered species conservation efforts.
Every year my sister and I take a trip together, we stop at one zoo per trip and we have visited some very cool zoos (KC zoo is our home zoo). This zoo was so much fun! And has some of the nicest enclosures, we were very excited about this. We LOVE seeing the animals have amazing space to live out their lives. While here the giraffe enclosure was being renovated. There was a baby gorilla. So many elephants and giraffes it was impressive. The hippos were vocal and the penguins come right up to the fence within reach.....but DO NOT touch them! The wallabys are free to roam so close the gates in their area! Loved this zoo
Melynda L — Google review
This place is AMAZING!! It's huge! Prepare for lots of walking and hills. Do not come here without pocket money. There are cafes and ice cream and popcorn and you can feed the giraffes so bring enough money for everyone in your group. But you can bring outside food and drinks so be smart. The animals are beautiful and look well cared for. The entire zoo was a clean environment. They even have 2 designated SMOKING AREAS!! like that was great to have a place to smoke. And there's staff everywhere so if you have questions about the animals or something else they're around to help. We had a fantastic day!!

This is a cool zoo. Easy to traverse and handicap accessible however some inclines as to be expected. Under construction during our visit but it didn’t stop us from seeing everything. Spent about 2 hours from start to finish. Love that they do dog days! So fun.
Jessica B — Google review
Although under renovation as of November 2025, you can still navigate this zoo without too much disruption. The upgrades will be completed sometime in 2026. The animals look very healthy and have room to move and the natural mountain setting is breathtaking. Anyone not accustomed to the elevation (and even locals) should come prepared with plenty of water for everyone in their party so as to not spoil the fun. The pizza restaurant is great with an enormous oven built in Italy and there are only two in the Western part of the US. If you want to bring your own cooler with lunch, it's allowed and there are multiple areas to set up your picnic. The sky ride up the mountain has an extra cost but it's worth it. There is a nice carousel for the kids for an extra $2. If navigating the mountain is difficult, you can purchase a $3. ticket that is good all day and get picked up and drop off by cart throughout the park. The entrance fee is reasonable so these extra costs are not outrageous. Unless you arrive by a car sharing service, you are required to purchase tickets online in advance because of the limited parking during construction. The Roger's shrine can be accessed by car, but you must get through the gate by 3pm. To see the majority of the park plan on 2-4 hours. Completely worth it! A beautiful retreat.
Rosemary L — Google review
Super unique and fun zoo, friendly staff, lots to see. They are not kidding when they call this a "mountain zoo" because it's legit all uphill (bring a stroller if you have any kids under 3, because it's a ton of uphill walking and our 2.5 year old couldn't do it all). The layout is a little confusing, likely because of the zoo being on a mountain, you have to backtrack some to get to the next section, but once you figure it out, it's easy enough (use the maps to help). Despite these learning curves, we still had a great time, and our kids did too. Giving 5 stars because we didn't have any issues, just new experiences. Enjoy!!
Emily V — Google review
Listen I know we've all been to the zoo. What could make this one so special right? I'm telling you it's magic. What makes it so enjoyable? - The zoo feels like it's made for the animals. Not for us. No overcrowding of as many different animals as possible into one place with lots of outdoor space and things to do make the animals less stressed. But honestly, it makes for a more enjoyable experience for the visitor as well. - Unique exhibit layout. Ways to experience animals I have frankly never encountered. - Lots of animal interaction opportunities. - Good food. This is a strange one to mention at a zoo but the food was shockingly tasty. - Incredible view. It's not very often that just walking around a zoo is half the beauty. I would come back here again and again. Cannot say enough good things.
Erin W — Google review
The BEST zoo we have been too to date! We LOVED all the animal up close & being able to touch & feed animals. A lot of uphill but totally worth it! They have plenty of benches all over for resting if you get tired easily! Take a rain poncho, backpack, water, snacks. So cool that it is on the mountain. Loved the views. Excited for the new giraffe habitat to get finished to go back & see that! We got to see the new baby gorilla. Baby was definitely the star of the zoo, EVERYONE loved the baby. Too cute. Definitely recommend going to this zoo!
Brittny D — Google review
Stuck an amazing environment to bring our girls to! They have had stuck a blast every time we go. Last time the baby wallaby were out and they got to pet them. The staff also let our girls assist them in feeding the reptiles because we were practically the only people in the zoo, so a membership saved us the hassle of waiting in line and scored our 5 girls a once in a lifetime moment contributing to the zoos morning breakfast routine! Such an amazing and unforgettable day!

Embark on a nostalgic journey through the gold rush history and scenic Rocky Mountains with the Cripple Creek and Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad. Departing from an 1894 depot, this 45-minute steam-engine train ride offers a glimpse into the area's old gold mining days. The heritage track passes historic mines, an old trestle, and stops at various points of interest for great photo opportunities.
Such an awesome experience! So much cool history on this ride! Plus, who doesn't want to ride a train with a steam engine? The other passengers were nice too. It was a fun and casual ride through the mountains. Absolutely would recommend it!

What a great little destination. We drove from Colorado Springs and it was easy and pleasant. The history of the gold rush was very interesting. We took the little train ride and what fun. We were able to talk with conductor and engineer. We have great pizza from a vendor in the parking lot. Then we went to 6 casinos! Stopped in Woodland Park for Mexican on the way back.
Brian S — Google review
My family loved it! Parking has a2hr limit, which is nice. There seemed to be plenty of parking because the train left every hour or so. We quickly parked, bought our tickets and waited for about 15 min before the train arrived. In the meantime, my husband bought a sweater($40) and we got popcorn($2 box) for the kids. The train wasn't fast or slow, it was perfect for seeing the sights and the story about the area and train were pretty cool.

My wife and I got here into Cripple Creek and people told us to take the train. We did just that, our guide or engineer, was remarkable at his knowledge and his humor. We learned a lot on this short train ride, took a lot of amazing pictures. When we visit again with relatives, we will be doing this train ride once more.
Enoch V — Google review
We loved it. Zoe and Tad were amazing guides and conductor/ engineer. We learned more about the area’s history in gold mining and got some local advice on food and other activities in the area. The kids loved it!

When you hear that it's only 4 miles, you might scoff. But this is the right 4 miles to be totally worthwhile. The views are legit and the engineer / tour guide is interesting, kind, but doesn't "talk your ear off". I recommend this to anyone. My 15 year old son was as intrigued as my wife and me. Coal-fired steam engine ride under $20? Heck yeah!

The Broadmoor Seven Falls is a stunning park in Colorado, known as the Grandest Mile of Scenery. It features a series of magnificent waterfalls, rising 1,250 feet between the towering Pillars of Hercules. The falls offer breathtaking views and opportunities to go behind them or climb challenging steps for stunning vistas. Accessible via shuttle bus from The Broadmoor hotel, it's an ideal spot for a morning excursion.
Beautiful scenery and well maintained. The waterfalls are worth seeing and some decent little hikes after. Be prepared for a lot of stairs. Got the quads burning but once again we'll worth it! We went on the weekend so the line for shuttle was long but they have a couple running so it wasn't to bad.
Brad S — Google review
This was my favorite thing we did on our vacation to Colorado Springs. We went to the parking area around 8:30-8:45 and got right on a shuttle. The walk up to the falls after getting dropped off by the shuttle was some of the most amazing scenery I've ever experienced. We are 56 year olds who do exercise regularly and we did fine with the steps up. Once up the steps, we thoroughly enjoyed the hiking. When we came back down there were a lot more people there so we recommend going early. We did not have to wait long for a return shuttle. Highly recommend this adventure!
Kristine S — Google review
Our first time seeing the beauty of this place. Be prepared to walk but the walk is full of breath taking views. Once you reach the falls you'll have a 224 step climb to to the top but it is well worth it when you get to the top. This is a must see in Colorado Springs. Well worth the $23 admission. We have an amazing day and some us forgettable memories.
Shawn C — Google review
I visited on an early fall morning as the sun was rising. To get to the falls, you will need to park at the Penrose Event Center and take the free shuttle ride to Seven Falls due to limited parking at the Falls. It's a 0.8 mile walk on a paved path to the falls from the entrance. There are many towering rocks and streams along the way. You can view the waterfalls by climbing up 224 very steep stairs or from the eagles nest viewing platform which can be accessed from an elevator. Well worth the visit!
Lyndee D — Google review
Worth the wait and cost to get in! It was a beautiful walk through the gorge up to the waterfall with a pretty stream and mini waterfalls off to the side of the path. You have to take a shuttle there. It takes a while to get on the shuttle and then walk up to the falls so definelty plan a decent chunk of your day if not expect it to take most of your day, this for sure isn’t a quick trip in and out!
Alyssa — Google review
This place was beautiful Its a lot of walking and once you go up the stairs and back down my legs were killing me. If you are scared of heights definitely dont do it. I was up 7 stairs and got supper scared and had to cling on the rail If I dared to look up or down I got really bad vertigo. The water wasn't running as good as other people's photos. Must be the time of the year. We were the first people In the park so everything was closed but the only bathrooms are 1/3 of the way in Beautiful walk up it's a little hard in the knees and once you get to the top it's beautiful
Anabel H — Google review
It was nice, short hikes, stairs are a lot for people that don’t like stairs. The Eagle’s Nest has an elevator, I recommend using that so then there is only one set of stairs to climb. There is no access to the falls from the Eagle’s Nest or the hiking trail. The shuttles at the end were crazy. We had to wait over an hour as they didn’t have enough shuttles to get everyone back and they took a long time for some reason to turn back around. Several people walked the miles back and some took Uber’s.

Gold Mine Tours Inc. offers group tours of its underground facility, including tram rides and exhibits. The hour-long tour takes visitors 1000 feet below the surface of a former operational gold mine, providing an educational experience for all ages. Knowledgeable guides, who are experienced miners themselves, share insights into mining techniques and demonstrate historical equipment used in the industry. Visitors can explore the property while waiting for the tour to start and enjoy informative storytelling from guides like Harley.
My husband and I went on this tour today, our guide was Patrick. We had a great time! The mine shaft elevator is pretty tight quarters but really neat. We loved all of the demonstrations of the actual old mining equipment and learned a lot. Patrick was a lot of fun and great with the kids on the tour. We got to see a lot of informational items as well as some cool mineral formations. Would absolutely recommend.
Sarah D — Google review
Great tour! So glad we did it! Our tour guide Mark”? was great! He seemed genuinely excited about the history of the mine and was easy to listen to. I was hesitant about the elevator ride down after reading other reviews, but it wasn’t too bad. Tight as sardines if you are claustrophobic you should know that. Also, the ride down & back up is about 95% dark and the elevator rattles & rocks slightly. But worth the trip down/up. Very educational and the hour went by quickly.
Steele S — Google review
What an adventure! The Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine tour was an unforgettable experience, taking us 1000 feet underground into the heart of Colorado’s gold mining history. Our guide was fantastic—informative, funny, and super kind. He made the whole tour even better, and he even snuck us some extra gold ore along with the free pieces you get to pick from at the end! 😉 The tour itself was fascinating. You vertically descend 100 stories into the mine, ride an underground tram, and get to see gold veins in their natural state. The mining equipment demonstrations were really cool, and it gave us a great appreciation for what the miners went through back in the day. Plus, it’s only a short and easy walk underground. After the mines, I highly recommend heading into Cripple Creek town—the food there is so good, and there are tons of cute stores to shop around. It’s the perfect way to round out the day! If you’re in Cripple Creek, you have to do this tour. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to dive into Colorado’s rich mining history—plus, who doesn’t love free gold ore?!
Breanna M — Google review
For quick summary details, go to bottom of review. This was an absolutely outstanding tour of the mines. Not only do you get to see mines, but you get to see equipment used, and a demonstration. Also, our tour guide, Mark, was extremely great at the tour. He was making some jokes while going through the tour and just causing some laughs while explaining each part of the mines in great detail and expertise. And on top of the mines experience back at the gift shop, no pun intended, the staff were excellent, understanding, and kind. And bathrooms are very nice and clean. To any staff that see this, I appreciate your kindness and respect. Also, I suggest bringing a jacket, as it's a nice 50° F in the mines, or be like my crazy Texan mind and not even bring a jacket to Colorado! Best experience we have had in our 3 days of being in Colorado! Went on 6/7/2024 at near 1:30 and the tour began at 2:00. *QUICK READ INFO Temp: 50° F Depth: 1,000 ft Our Guide: Mark (great guide)

First tour down in to a mine. Was a great time and very informative. Well worth the price of admission and the trip just to see it. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Cripple Creek is just below the mine and your able to over look a working mine next door. Also you can start the phantom canyon road from here which will take you about 2 hours to travel.
David W — Google review
I visited the Mollie Kathleen mine tour in May of 2023. I thought it was great, with lots of educational demonstrations and explanations as well as just really cool being in tunnels that deep underground. Heads up that the trip down is cramped, so just be prepared; though they do warn you about it ahead of time on the website. If you visit, I strongly suggest after the tour going across the street to the heritage center and seeing the scale model of the Mollie Kathleen mine; it really gives you a nice sense of scale for the tour.
Corey F — Google review
What an amazing place! It is definitely worth the drive up there. Sarah - our guide - is the sweetest person, she’s so knowledgeable, professional & friendly! Don’t worry, if you’re claustrophobic, it’s not that bad. It’s a 2 min elevator ride to the bottom, and the tour down there is just outstanding. This gold mine has been operational since 1891! It’s cold up there, so keep yourself warm.

Outdoor Activities
Pikes Peak is a 14,115-ft. pink granite peak in Colorado Springs, offering hiking trails with breathtaking views, climbing opportunities, and campgrounds. The area also features a condo with amenities like complimentary wireless internet access and a garden for relaxation. Visitors can explore the region's history through guided tours of a cave that has been part of local legends since 1000 AD. Additionally, the peak offers stunning panoramic views described in 'America the Beautiful' by Katharine Bates.
What an amazing drive! I recommend starting early in the morning and checking the weather. I bought our tickets online the day before and checking in at the ranger station at the start was easy. Be sure to get gas and prepare for huge elevation gains. The road is well maintained for August. All of the ranger throughout the park are excellent.

Amazing and crazy drive up to the peak. The drive down was even crazier. There is basically no guardrail! Every time we turned, there was another great view. The observatory at the peak was great and you can find donuts at the gift shop. They are overpriced but good. It was a little difficult for us during our visit because of the altitude but it was still great. It's windy so bring a jacket during the colder months. Be sure to use the lower gears while descending so that your brakes don't burn out. There's a check point that checks the brake temperature, so you don't end up on the evening news. So awesome!

Very very special experience, for drive my own car to such elevation 4300m above sea level. There are lots of hair-pin curves, and steep uphills on the road, some part of road near cliff, so you may require some driving skill.
Hanhua G — Google review
Best motorcycle ride ever. Amazing views everywhere. Just beware of gust of wind that hits all of sudden. Five minutes of calm then 5 seconds of what seems like a wall of air.
Bryan C — Google review
The drive up is insane and not fpr the weak! Be sure to bring a hat, jacket and gloves for the summit. Penny machine was out of order but there are many other items in the gift shop.
Ryan W — Google review
We rented a hybrid jeep and it worked great on the drive to the top and the coasting to the bottom. The visitor center is great with plenty of restrooms and food choices. We had two kids and a dog and everyone was feeling the altitude a bit at the top. Nothing too bad for us but there were some older people that were clearly struggling. We took our time on the way down and stopped everywhere we could to take in the views.
Nick B — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking! We originally planned to take the train but decided not to—and I’m so glad we still went. The drive up offers incredible views, though it might be challenging for those with a fear of heights. The visitor center is beautiful, and the scenery alone makes the trip worthwhile. We visited in July, and it was very windy, so be sure to dress in layers!

What a beautiful place to be. Line to enter was okay. It was about 15min wait. We got our ticket and started driving. Uphill drive is not too bad. Loved every bit of it. You have to experience this in person. The pictures and videos do not do justice. The drive to the peak Is about 45 minutes. Follow the rules and take it easy. You’ll be fine. There’s parking available once you are on the top. There’s also a cafe, bathrooms. The cafe line was pretty long but moving quickly. We tried their famous donuts, coffee and popcorn. The hot chocolate was delicious. The popcorn was fresh. The donuts were devoured by the kids. Sooooo good. The view is spectacular. Oxygen levels are low and you do feel nauseous and dizzy once you are up there. Drink lots of water, rest, take breaks. The weather is also colder so do dress in layers. The drive downhill is tricky. Use low gear, don’t ride your brakes and go slow. Enjoy the view. Overall it was an amazing experience. Do check them out.

Garden of the Gods is a 1,300-acre park located just northeast of Colorado Springs. The park features an array of sandstone formations in various colors, offering picturesque landscapes for visitors. At the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center, guests can access hiking trails, biking paths, and even guided nature walks. The park's diverse trails cater to different difficulty levels, with a wheelchair-accessible 1.5-mile trail available for all to enjoy.
This is an awesome place to visit, and it's free! Nicely paved trail and it's accessible. Rock climbing can be arranged from what I saw on signs but you have to make contact with the location first. This is a great place for pictures of the Red rocks. Definitely worth the stop and visiting multiple times. This was my second trip and I enjoyed the rocks just as much.
Jenn J — Google review
Title: Geological Grandeur: A Study in Color and Contrast The Garden of the Gods offers an experience that is far more dramatic and detailed than a simple scenic drive. These photos illustrate the striking, almost painterly, quality of this National Natural Landmark, emphasizing the interplay between the ancient geology and the vibrant plant life. The dominant feature is, of course, the geological drama. The formations appear massive and imposing, showcasing stark red and orange colors under the brilliant Colorado sun. The images capture the incredible texture of the sandstone—the result of millions of years of deposition and subsequent tectonic tilting. Seeing these massive slabs of rock jutting sharply towards the sky, often framed by soft, puffy clouds, is a potent reminder of the earth's immense power. Furthermore, this place is an immersive trail experience. The dense, lively green foliage—primarily scrub oak and juniper—is a recurring element that beautifully frames the towering red monoliths. This foreground of nature provides a compelling contrast to the bare, dramatic rock, making the hiking and viewing experience feel intimate and immersive, even when viewing the massive formations. It suggests a park that is not just about viewing from a distance, but one that encourages stepping onto the trails to appreciate the varied ecosystems thriving right up to the base of the rock fins. The clear, blue skies and bright daylight guarantee exceptional photography, bringing out the maximum saturation in the red iron oxide of the rocks. Whether you are focused on the broad landscape views or the close-up texture of a specific formation, the Garden of the Gods is a mandatory stop for anyone visiting the Colorado Springs area, promising accessibility and a truly unforgettable visual spectacle.
Yusuf J — Google review
Garden of the Gods is an absolutely breathtaking place that feels almost unreal from the moment you arrive. The towering red rock formations create a stunning contrast against the bright blue sky, making every view feel picture-perfect. The maps along the trails are incredibly helpful, giving you a clear sense of direction while highlighting scenic overlooks and points of interest you won’t want to miss. The shuttle system is also very convenient, making it easy to get around the park without worrying about parking or long walks between major areas. I highly recommend bringing a water bottle, because staying hydrated makes the entire experience much more enjoyable, especially if you plan to explore several trails. Wearing comfortable hiking shoes is equally important, as some paths can be uneven, slightly uphill, or longer than expected. With the right gear, the walks feel relaxing rather than tiring. Despite being a popular destination, the park still manages to feel calm, refreshing, and peaceful. Whether you’re there for photography, hiking, or simply taking in the incredible scenery, it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression. Garden of the Gods is truly a must-see spot that showcases the natural beauty Colorado is known for.

A great experience with lots of beautiful scenery. We explored several landmarks along the trail and got to do a little rock climbing. Great for hiking and just walking around. Elevation is pretty high, being lots of water. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and taking your time. Would be a great place to jog if youre into building stamina.
Amun Z — Google review
This place is amazing. You just keep saying "wow" at every turn. There's a central part that's easy to walk and has sidewalks, and if you go early and are quiet - you can spot deer and other wildlife. You may even see permitted climbers working their way up a rock face. There is a lot to see in the center loop; howeverrrrr, if you got your grippy shoes, water, and some snacks... then adventure off into any of the outer trails. They are all a "little to a lot" different from each other (terrain, elevation gain and difficulty, vegetation, etc) buttttttttttttt on any trail you take you will be meandering along when out of nowhere ROCK FORMATION!👁👄👁 The colors of the rocks are mostly red (those are sandstone that used to be dunes) and remind me of Red Rock Canyon in Nevada, but there are also beautiful quartz that look glittery in the sun, obsidian (I think) that looks like black glass, and stones/ rocks that look like someone painted them layer by layer. Sooo many different types of trees and plants. Watch out for the cacti; they're everywhere to the sides of the trails and are no joke (even though they look small). Overall, pretty easy hike on any trail - but you need good shoes or it will get slippery in some spots. Kids could do some of the trails, maybe all - just depends on your kid's endurance and balance. Just the last mile or so can be tough and that was because it was an incline with deep sand... but you can probably exit off of the trail to the main road before that and go a different way. Highly recommend.

Garden of the Gods is absolutely breathtaking! The towering red rock formations against the blue Colorado sky are stunning from every angle. The park is clean, well-maintained, and free to visit — a true gem! Whether you’re hiking, taking photos, or just driving through, every moment feels magical. The visitor center staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the views from the overlooks are unforgettable. Definitely a must-see destination in Colorado Springs!

Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is a fascinating park known for its petrified redwood stumps and thousands of insect and plant fossils. The visitor center offers a video tour that delves into the history of the area, highlighting preservation efforts. There are guided walks available, and visitors can explore an easy loop with fossilized trees in the valley. Additionally, there's a local quarry where guests can dig for their own fossils.
We really enjoyed our visit and seeing the petrified trees was amazing. They have gone to great lengths to protect these. Don't expect to find fossils just lying about, but the museum has an excellent collection. The homestead is also worth a visit just a mile down the road. Lots of prairie dogs and ground squirrels!

It’s an important area to preserve but definitely a monument. May have limited enjoyment for some. Having been to Redwoods NP seeing petrified redwood stumps in Colorado really gets the mind thinking about how the earth has changed over time. Also detailed is the exploiting of limited natural history and how fragile protecting these areas really is. We enjoyed our visit - there are plenty of hiking opportunities.

After doing a gold mine tour as part of a cross country road trip in September 2024, we noticed this national monument park and decided to go to it. Spent about 2hours walking the grounds and taking in the sites. Found the big stump to be interesting. Park staff was very friendly and answered our questions. While interesting, I wouldn’t go out of my way to see this park.
Rich T — Google review
All NPS sites are national treasures! Unfortunately, I visited during the government shutdown so I only partook of the open trails, beautiful sites, wild life and sounds. Its amazing to stroll through imagining being in a redwood forest like we have in the West. The trails are well maintained and easy. I would have liked to visit the visitors center for some more history beyond the well labeled info on the trails, maybe next time. Don't the easy trails fool.you though, bring water and remember the elevation!

We visited Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument and hiked the Petrified Forest Loop. It’s a short and easy trail, perfect for enjoying the scenery and learning about the park’s fascinating history. The giant petrified redwood stumps along the path are truly impressive, and the interpretive signs give great insight into the area’s prehistoric past. The landscape is peaceful, with open meadows and mountain views. A beautiful spot for a quick walk and a step back in time! Don’t miss the video in the visitor center.

Outstanding hiking for little kids! The Junior Ranger program here is great. My 6 y/o and 2 y/o had a great time “hiking” out to Big Stump, looking at the wildflowers and wildlife, checking out the Visitor Center, and filling out their Junior Ranger workbook at the Petrified Stumps Amphitheater. Beautiful experience. Take water and get there early, it gets hot!

Interesting place. Watched the video at the visitor center and learned a great deal about the formation of the area. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate on the day we visited so we did not get to do much hiking.

Unique open space with distinctive color variations & rock formations plus 4 miles of trails.
Beautiful hike to the paint mines! Very peaceful with beautiful views. I suggest bringing water and shoes you don't mind getting muddy, especially if it's been raining! Might want a hoodie too as it can be a bit windy and cool at first. I definitely recommend it!
Eden F — Google review
Nice adventure to the mines. A bit of a drive from Denver however it’s very pretty if coming from west of Monument. The Mines were smaller and yet bigger than expected. You can visit the main formations areas and/or walk/hike around the park. We did both and it was lovely all around. Went on a cooler day so it was very pleasant, might be too hot in warm weather and should you go then take a pack and water. Ample parking and restroom facilities in the parking area. Knocked this one off the checklist and it was a worthwhile trip. Recommend visiting when you can get there, very pretty.
C L — Google review
Yes, the drive is long (worth every mile). Yes, the walk down to the colorful formations takes a bit of effort. But when you’re standing amidst the layered clays, watching the light shift across the formations, it feels like you’ve stepped into something timeless. If you love geology, history, nature walks, or just breathtaking landscapes, this is a place you’ll remember. Highly recommend for anyone wanting something out of the ordinary.

A beautiful and reflective place tucked away where you'd least expect it near Calhan, CO. I'm constantly amazed by the geologic variety you can find within an hour or less of Pikes Peak. This place has been wonderfully cared for and has some really excellent spots for viewing and walking right inside the formations. Perfect for a day trip.
Joseph E — Google review
Overall really unique place to visit! I expected something different where you’re going through the “paint mines”. Here you’re mostly walking on a trail and then there are little view points where you can view the different areas but you can’t really walk through. We went at dusk to get low lighting in September, and beware the bugs were awful!!! We left because they got so bad. Really is a beautiful place though and I’d still recommend checking it out.
Vickie P — Google review
This place is well worth the time to visit. It does require some walking, so wear appropriate shoes. There are three parking areas, each with about a 10 to 15 minute walk to get to the scenic walks around the breathtaking colored sandstone sculptures. With lots of mini trails we spent about two and a half hours walking around and taking pictures. No dogs, or bikes allowed by park rules. I would also say the disability access is very limited. Highly recommend if you live in Colorado or are just driving through our beautiful state.
John A — Google review
The Paint Mines are great to visit during the day, but if you fill out the right paperwork, you can stay after sunset far away from the city lights. I've done astrophotography there with no Moon and dark skies and other times with a full Moon that looks like daylight. It's fantastic.
Ryan B — Google review
Beautiful hike for the sunrise! I was the only one there for about 2hours. Plenty of parking, and 1 port-a-potty. Slight incline but not bad and so worth it. Dogs are unfortunately not allowed but given the area and fragility, I understand. 10/10 a cool place, close to the Springs, and not busy.

Amazing experience! The tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate, sharing so much great information. The small group size made it personal and easy to ask questions. You can tell they truly care about the animals—highly recommend!

Tuesday, September 30th was our second visit to this amazing facility, and we were really hoping to meet more of the wolves. Our first encounter had been with Isha and Orenda, so we went back to their enclosure to start. As luck would have it, someone brought a dog that day, and since the wolves were at the top of the hill, we were moved to a different enclosure, and that’s when we got to meet Luna and Amarok! My husband and I were beyond excited. Luna was so affectionate, she let me give her belly rubs and showered both of us with kisses. My husband also shared a special moment with Amarok, who gave him kisses for nearly a full minute! 🐺💛 I’m so grateful we were able to share this experience with such incredible animals. We’ve decided to make the “Meet and Greet” a yearly tradition from now on.

My daughter and I absolutely adored our visit here! We did the VIP encounter and had a once in a lifetime experience ❤️ From scheduling to our interaction with Isha and Orenda, our guides Phoebe and Ariel, our day was incredible! The wolves, coyotes and foxes were all so well cared for and happy. The grounds and pens were immaculate! We came in from Texas and will be back, hopefully over and over again! Please tell Isha and Orenda hello, we love them and give them lots of kisses from us! And again, THANK YOU for a beautiful visit!

Amazing and educational visit to a facility that helps save the lives of wolves who cannot be released back into the wild as well as advocates for wolf conservation. I was able to meet and be inside the pen with two red foxes and three wolves under the direction and supervision of two knowledgeable and dedicated staff members and loved the experience of being around these smart and persecuted animals. The general tour provided great information about the mass extermination of wolves early on, the gradual reintroductions, and the current state of laws protecting wolves (or allowing them to be hunted). I highly recommend this excellent organization for wolf education and tours.
Tammy A — Google review
I had a wonderful experience at the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center to cap off a week long vacation prior to driving back to Omaha, NE on Oct 14. I sent in information on a Monday afternoon and got a call back to book the VIP experience for the next day within a half hour. Got it booked and verified dress code requirements before I got off the phone. The main tour started off with a 10-15 minute discussion about conservation and the struggles it's facing and current laws (or lack there of) regarding wolf treatment. It was prefaced with it being depressing content, so I wouldn't see that as a negative I see in other comments. It's the grim reality and I appreciated the detail as it got me interested in what I could do to help. That aside, the guide (I believe his name was Kirk, but I could be wrong) was very knowledgeable and did a great job at each enclosure giving details about each wolf and/or pair. The wolves were very active coming to the gate, being excited for treats, and were at least in site in each enclosure. It was mid October, so the weather was perfect for them to be out. They seemed to be happy and healthy despite what other comments might say. There were strict tour rules to follow, but they're easy. After the main tour, I got the VIP experience and got to meet Krypton (wolf dog) and Zarah (full wolf) for about 20 minutes. That was wonderful. The guides were very gracious about making sure it was worthwhile for me. The wolves played in front of me, on top of me, and didn't mind the interaction with me at all. They were friendly with Krypton enjoying the pets quite a bit. I got a chance to feed both as well as pictures were taken. Overall, it was worth it for me. I got to pet a wolf. That's just cool. It's a great educational experience. Like any animal sanctuary or zoo, the activity of the animals may vary. I came on a great day and I am thankful for that. My VIP experience could have been very different if no wolf was feeling social. The website states that could be the case. I got lucky. Just be mindful that your experiences could vary, but I recommend giving the tour a try. It was a highlight of my trip for sure.
David S — Google review
Truly one of a kind facility and experience that is perfect for all ages. The receptionist, Charity, was polite, efficient, and knowledgeable when booking a feeding-tour for my mother and I. The tour-guides were personable, engaging, and informative. The facility is well kept and accessible. It is comforting knowing fees are being put back into facility operations and expansions. A reasonably priced memorable experience that everyone should have!

Excellent place to visit! Great education and animal management and staff. The Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center is accredited by the AZA (Association of Zoos & Aquariums) — not even all zoos and aquariums have this accreditation! The AZA ensures excellent standards are met for animal health and welfare. I was so happy to visit and help support this great organization. The animals are easy to see, but I'm glad I also had binoculars for more zoomed in photos. I will absolutely be back again!

The United States Air Force Academy, established in 1954, is a renowned institution that provides training to U.S. Air Force cadets and showcases various exhibits. Additionally, the academy offers an unparalleled view of Pikes Peak and features amenities such as VIP luxury fire pit suites and top-notch restaurants.
Visited the United States Air Force Academy in early August and was simply awestruck by the history, mission, character and quality of people who first organized the institution, all the graduates over time, and the proud character of the individuals attending the academy. Beautiful campus nestled in the north part of Colorado Springs, with plenty of space and neat, air-themed buildings. The chapel was under renovation/construction when we visited so we could not view it, but there are plenty of images and models around to get an idea of how beautiful and majestic the building is. We don't have any family members in the military, but we greatly appreciated the valuable opportunity to learn about this wonderful institution and the amazing work of the people associated with it. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

We visited the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in hopes that our daughter will be attending next year. It is a highly respected institution that is known for producing some of the most dedicated and skilled military officers in the United States Air Force. With a focus on integrity, excellence, and service, the Academy prepares its students to meet the challenges of military service with honor and distinction. Beyond its academic and ethical rigor, the Air Force Academy also offers a vibrant and diverse community for its students. Cadets come from all walks of life, and the Academy prides itself on fostering a sense of camaraderie and belonging. It would be a blessing to be a part of this prestigious academy.

We arrived at the Air Force Academy a couple of weeks ago. They closed down tours to the public in January of 2025. We were not allowed to go in, this is not posted anywhere on their website. Be aware that if you're not a veteran or active military you won't be allowed to take a tour. This would have been very helpful as we planned our trip, we were disappointed.

What an impressive place! Not just the beauty and the organization of it, but the respect for the academy and the respect for the service is present. The size of the grounds is immense, and we only stayed on the roads, not having time to go on any of the walking paths. Even though the chapel is currently closed, we still learned a lot through the visitor's center, and the video they showed was informative as well. Would have loved to have had more time here.

Hey, have you heard about this hidden gem of a park in Colorado? It’s not one of the many parks in the Mountains, but it’s right near the plains, and you’d never guess it! This park has tons of trails and levels for all skill levels, so you can find something that suits your fitness level. There are two entrances, one in the north and one in the south. If you’re planning to hike, most of the trails are on the north side. The visitor center is located at 83 at the south entrance. There’s a big picnic area on the south end and some picnic tables on the north. Oh, and there’s also a trail that goes all the way from end to end!

This is a great place to hike that is close to home. Traffic is light and the park is close to the south end of town. There are clean bathrooms by the parking lot and quite of few great hiking paths ranging from easy to moderate and not too long. A good distance for old and young without being too long. My kids and grandson have hiked around quite a few times over the years. Very beautiful scenic views at every pathway. There are picnic tables all over with a big gazebo area up by the main parking lot as well. If your looking for a great scenic place to hike for the whole family that is close to home, this is the place.

This place is a hidden gem. Beautiful scenery and beautifully designed trails. It is Colorado so before starting on a hike check the overview on AllTrails because some of these are definitely more intermediate and can be on the longer side and I would not recommend attempting the longer trails in the dead of summer heat.

Absolutely breathtaking atmosphere. There's several hiking trails that go through the park, I did a few of them & none of them were too difficult. There's a really nice shaded Pavillion where you can sit & enjoy the view/have lunch. It wasn't too crowded when I came either. Keep your eyes open for wildlife, I saw several turkeys & their babies, deer & hummingbirds are active this summer. Tons of pretty wildflowers too. Make sure you bring lots of water & sunscreen, there's not too much shade on the trails.

Our first visit to this state park. Visiting from out of state. Decided that we love to hike and wanted to see what this state has. It's a beautiful park. Has many trails and places to walk. You definitely want to be prepared. Water is essential. Didn't see much wildlife but I know when we were hiking it was a bit warm. Visitor Center was nice. The team of workers are very thoughtful and friendly. Last note. If you are walking to the visitor center. Look at the path on the left. It's a small road. But easier to walk if you have mobility issues.

Gorgeous Park! The visitors center is worth the slight uphill climb. I did the shortest trail and the views were beautiful. Can't wait to visit again and do a more challenging trail!

Loved this park! We went on a Sunday afternoon in October and we had to wait about 10 mins until a few cars left (the max is 100 cars at a time). It was a beautiful park and we talked to the nicest lady at the visitor center. We hiked a 3 mile loop from there and had some beautiful views! This is a hidden gem and you should check it out if you’re in the area!

BEAUTIFUL! What a day hiking around this park in late spring. Wildflowers, lots of trails and what a view! We arrived early on a gorgeous Saturday morning and spent the day wandering around. My personal highlight of the day was the bull snake hauling tail across a path. This snake had places to go and vermin to eat. This is a no dog park. Lucky for you if you didn't check the website for alerts, regulations and need to knows. There is a for a fee dog kennel right outside an entrance for you to drop fido off while you hike around. I have no idea how quickly it fills up. The ranger station is a beautiful building with excellent interpretive displays. The display on how many years your litter takes to break down is eye opening and yes, this includes pistachio shells. Small gift shop in the station with the essential stickers, t-shirts and postcards. #COParksPassport

Roxborough State Park is absolutely amazing. The trails are super clean and well maintained, and I found them really easy to walk, perfect for a peaceful day out in nature. It wasn’t too busy when I went, which made the experience even better. The scenery is stunning, those red rock formations are just beautiful. Whether you’re hiking or just looking to relax in a quiet, natural setting, this place is a hidden gem.

An absolutely beautiful park, don't be fooled by the entrance area which is flat. A relatively easy walk, and easy to make as long or short as you like. Loved this park for its rock formations.....and beautiful sky and cloud features when we were there. Easy to get to as well.

iFLY Indoor Skydiving - Denver is an indoor flight facility that offers free-fall adventures, making it a great option for parties, meetings, and lessons. The location is easy to find with free parking available. Visitors have praised the friendly and helpful staff, particularly the instructors who made them feel safe despite their nervousness. While some mentioned scratches on the windows from bouncing sneakers, others had a blast flying and enjoying the High fly option for an additional fee.
What a complete blast for my family. We took our kids/grandkids for an early Christmas. We will not see them on the 25th unfortunately. Everyone we came in co tact with was very pleasant and helpful. Our instructor, Phil Graham was great with the kids (and my wife). My grandson was a natural, instantly understanding the task at hand. If there was any “complaints”, they could keep the plexiglass cleaner for better photos and videos, but that’s nitpicking.

Amazing indoor skydiving experience with this place. Checking in and getting prepared to do the indoor skydiving was a breeze and the staff were chill and very nice. Our instructors, Mickey and Chase, were super awesome and gave us some great instructions on how to do it. The person who was controlling the air speed was also very helpful and nice with giving helpful advice during the flight too. Also highly recommend to add the high flights to the package for an extra $20, since those were fun and awesome! You may also do some extra flights for another $20 each. Even though the price of the flight bundle was expensive, we had a great and fun time here. Overall, I highly recommend this place for an amazing indoor skydiving experience!

Absolutely love this place when I lived there I went when they first opened and I’ve since moved away but the first thing I did when I went back was take a friend who would never been the instructors are phenomenal. It’s very very exhilarating very fun very fast pace. It doesn’t seem like a long time but when you’re in there, it is and again the instructors are crazy patient and just outstanding human beings and they are very good at what they do and make it look very So if you’re in the area, looking for something to go check it out, you will not be disappointed

iFly was a dream come true! Flying with my son was an unforgettable experience, a memory that will last a lifetime and the "HIGHlight" of my existence. Khai, our fearless leader, was friendly, helpful, and a total blast of fresh fun air. "HIGHly recommend this dude." We felt like superheroes, and we’re still grinning!

Staff is beyond helpful. When I went in I stupidly wore slip-on shoes, which as you can imagine, don't stay on when air blows at over 100mph. My instructor caught that beforehand, preventing an expensive disaster. To make sure I could still have my fun, they provided me with a pair of lace-ups, and everything else was smooth sailing. They also helped my friend loosen up because he was stiff as a board going in the first time. Overall a great experience, and I would happily return!
