Brantley Lake State Park

Lake
Nature & Parks
Kayaking & fishing on Brantley Lake, plus camping, hiking & birdwatching in the surrounding park.
Brantley Lake was the most peaceful park, so quiet and serene. Staff was very nice and helpful, Ray was very informative about the park and local attractions. The bathrooms were very clean and had a heater for the cold weather. Can’t say enough good things about this park, 10/10 will be coming again.
Lily C — Google review
Very helpful person at the entrance gate Sites are nicely spaced and fairly level. It's a very pleasant campground to stay in for visiting Carlsbad Caverns, Sitting Bull Falls, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park.
Greg M — Google review
Want to say a couple of things about Brantley State Park: if you have ever camped in the desert in the summer, you know two things: lots of bugs and it's very hot. Brantley State Park staff take incredible time and care to clean the campsites and showers. The showers are free and clean. The bathrooms have a working AC running, giving you a cool place to shower and cool down. The toilets are clean and the stalls have no bugs in them. Very few crawl around. The bathrooms have plugins where we could charge our fans (which I highly recommend having in the summer months). There are tarantulas and snakes nearby but we never had any close calls near our tent. It's been wonderful camping here even if the desert makes it difficult. Thank you to the staff who take care of this park.

The best state park campground that we’ve been to. Affordable. Picnic tables are covered. Great views of the lake. Bathrooms have been recently renovated. Good running and mountain biking trails (short paths for mountain biking). Convenient distance to Carlsbad Caverns.

Hosted a baby shower. It was AMAZING! Janie and her team did a beautiful job of bringing my vision to life! Decoration was beautiful and personalized to our liking. Drinks were delicious as usual. Reasonably priced especially! Staff was friendly and helpful! Would have all my parties here in the future!
Summer G — Google review
I attended a wedding this past weekend for a friend. It looked beautiful and wonderful! Until I heard the owner LOUDLY trash talking the bride, aka my friend!! The picture attached is what the bride had to walk on when she and her planner were told there would be a walk way going from where she came out to the beginning where they got married. Because of this the bridal party and the bride almost tripped multiple times!!! The bride was holding back tears the whole night due to the disrespect the owner Toni was giving her. We even ended up leaving early as the bride was tired of hearing all the rude comments from the owner and her staff! Please DO NOT book this venue!
Alyssa S — Google review
Hands down, the sweetest people. Such a family friendly environment. All the animals are so sweet and obviously well loved and cared for. Prices are fair. MUST VISIT
Mika T — Google review
We visited the pumpkin patch and it was so great for my kids!! So many great activities for kids and for adults to enjoy. It is definitely worth the price. We were there for two hours and still didn't do everything that they offered.
Candice M — Google review
They have lots of activities and cool things for the kiddos. We had their lemonade and were hoping to try their apple cider doughnuts but they were sold out. They have a tractor ride to pick a pumpkin and pumpkin slingshots and a fairy garden where they sold (pricey) fairy wings and wands and crowns so it was cute but we didn't buy those things. They were cute. We paid $12 a person to get in. Under 2 get in free. Took star off for those prices. They have something for most ages. Barn bingo and gel blasters too. Bouncy farm and petting zoo and bamboo maze and fishing pond with pole you can use. Was warm today so the lemonade hit the spot. Will go back next year. Didn't try any wines but they are a vineyard and have wine tastings. And they sell some concessions in the barn and there's a restaurant too
Jonny D — Google review
Cool place for us to stop on the way to Roswell, New Mexico for the kids to get out of the RV and play a little bit. They got pumpkins and played some games and had a good time.
Matthew H — Google review
This place had some good wine, cool booths, crazy good food, cute little pumpkins, blow up for kids, animals to see and pet. We went for the very last part of the sunflower festival. We got drunk and ate, we had a good time, and I loved it. Totally recommend for anyone of all ages. Very cute off the beaten path type vibes 🤙🏼

Love all their incredible home cooked meals, house drinks, and hospitality 🤍 They also have such fun & creative events, such as Ladies Nights, field trips, Date Nights, Comedy Nights, holiday events, and so so much more!! Truly a great time for everyone!!🤍

Artesia Public Library

Public library
Libraries
The public library here was designed around a 46x15 foot curved fresco mural by Peter Hurd, a noted local muralist. This work was rescued from the Prudential Insurance building in downtown Houston TX when it was being demolished. The entire back wall weighing 50,000 lbs was removed and mounted to an engineered steel skeleton and then transported to Artesia where it was dropped in from above before the roof was installed. The entire library is a beautiful structure.

Love coming here, have different stages for children, they have a place for children, teens and adults. Good place to fax and print papers. Employees are very friendly. Lots and lots of books.
Tosh S — Google review
wow probably the nicest library i've ever been to. some of their study rooms come with a macbook laptop and they even have a study room thats a makeshift sound studio. super impressive!! their IT department is working on their computer systems up and running right now but aside from that it's so nice.

Architecturally and aesthetically this is a beautiful building. Nice, comfortable, and clean and has multiple study rooms. My 5 year old had a blast in the Lego room in the children’s section. Great way to pass the time with kiddos.
Tim L — Google review
Everything about this place is wonderful, but the hours are difficult for students to work with. In my opinion, closing at 6 is way too early for students to actually utilize this library. College campuses often have locations for studying like this, but sadly, not Artesia.

Bottomless Lakes State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park features several sinkhole-formed lakes with water sport activities, plus hiking trails.
We called to see what the chances were there was a spot open for just one night. We got lucky and were pleasantly surprised by this cute tucked away spot. A very desert appeal with a beautiful natural lake against the red rock cliffs. A great family swimming hole and we’ll walk the short mile hike this morning.
Marsha G — Google review
It's a place that looks beautiful from a distance, but when you get there, it's not. Entrance costs $10 per car, whether you're entering or leaving. The sand is muddy, and the water is still flowing. I don't recommend swimming. If you're going to barbecue, I recommend getting up early. I think it's the only place within a 100-mile radius that the locals have to enjoy.
Luis — Google review
We went during the week on a Tuesday. It was empty for the most part. Very pleasant and quiet. We picked a shaded picnic area and spent 4 hrs just enjoying the scenery and cool water of Lea lake. It was a 90° day but the breeze was perfect! Amazing geology!
Patrick N — Google review
My family and I had a wonderful time camping here! We stayed in a tent at the campground and really enjoyed how spacious it was. We booked a site with electric and water hookups, plus our spot included a picnic table and some nice shade. The restroom and shower facilities were clean and the showers had good pressure and plenty of hot water, which was soothing after a long day outdoors. During our stay, the campground was peaceful, with everyone keeping to themselves and no noisy campers around. The only odd thing was that someone (likely a park employee) decided to use a leaf blower at 5am, circling the park and waking everyone up. That was definitely unexpected! Other than that, the park itself is absolutely beautiful and full of scenic trails, rocky canyons, and great photo opportunities for anyone who loves nature and wildlife. The lakes are clear and refreshing, with designated swimming areas. We also saw park rangers making their rounds, keeping everything in check, which made us feel safe. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend visiting or camping here, especially in the Fall season.
Texas W — Google review
This was a nice, quiet park to stay in while we visited the Roswell area. There is a Camp Host, and Bathrooms were attended to daily. Each site had a standing charcoal grill just outside of a covered picnic table. There was a nice boardwalk across the street, and the lake/ beach were empty (we stayed during the week M-W) Also, there was dispersed camping outside of the Lea Lake Campground, near the Visitor Center. We did not go into the visitor center though! A good place to stay for travelers needing some rest :)
A L — Google review
It may have been due to visiting near the end of the season, but the area appeared somewhat run-down. Several buildings had broken windows, and both the restroom and play area were infested with wasps. The highlight of the visit was the beautiful view of the lake framed by striking red cliffs. We also discovered another lake within the park; however, it was mostly dried up and had a noticeable sulfur odor.
Travis D — Google review
Such a fun place to visit. They have a swimming area with paddle boats, picnic tables, nice, clean restrooms, and a really cute pavilion. If your near Roswell I highly recommend visiting
Tracey R — Google review
Beautiful place, with clear water and lovely scenery. Watch out for the racoons at night time. Those little buggers ripped open our tent, to try to get our food in the middle of the night. YIKES! 😬

Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge

Wildlife refuge
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Huge, mellow wildlife refuge with plenty of rare birds & other animals plus unique landscapes.
Very scenic place to come and enjoy some peace and quiet and to slow down and look around at what's around you. There's a 6 mile loop that you can drive thru and along the way there's multiple place to stop with some trails and lookouts. There's also trails near the entrance, like the butterfly trail, which I thought were great. I also saw lots of different kinds of birds throughout the reserve. It's not a busy place, so you can really take your time and enjoy yourself.
Terrin D — Google review
Beautiful grounds with many species of birds, flowers and wildlife. Visitor Center movie is very helpful to ID birds and critters. It was stormy so only stayed near VC. But did walk the Butterfly Trail. Some steps but not too strenuous.
Diane F — Google review
Happened to come across this place headed to mosque del apache and was surprised how neat it was. Gravel road takes you around the loop. Easy to follow. Easy to get the light in your favor for photos. Saw snow geese, sandhill cranes, and hawks. Very active place and the birds make alot of music. Highly recommend 👌

I love this place! Bitter Lakes Wild Life Reserve is beautiful, with great sites and fun easy trails. The whole family will enjoy it and get to see a lot of amazing animals.

A great drive with easy and dog friendly walks. Very helpful volunteers and a nice gift shop. We bought a t shirt as a gift.
Brian A — Google review
This is a hidden gem.in Roswell. Beautifully maintained with a long driving loop with various stops along the route. We saw many different types of birds while we were there. Be sure to.bring your binoculars!
Joe N — Google review
Our old and outdated GPS took us to an entrance that was closed. That’s nobody’s fault, but when we called the number on the sign, we were told we had to backtrack all the way to Roswell, which was ridiculous. We found our own way to the correct entrance, pulled up to the visitor center, but couldn’t go in as there was a large rattlesnake blocking the door. This was the theme of our visit. Every pull off and scenic view was occupied by at least one rattlesnake and a ton of mosquitoes. We couldn’t get out of the car save for one area. I’m guessing this is a time of year thing and we should have done better research but nothing I saw mentioned an abundance of rattlesnakes in early August. At least the visitor center was actually open, whether anyone could get to the doors or not.
Mark S — Google review
What a beautiful natural area! So much peace and quiet and bird life on the waters! This is a great place for a picnic, a hike, or just some meditation time! The visitor center is absolutely stunning inside and out, and the guide is very friendly and helpful. We got to see a resting owl in the eastern viewing area and baby swallows that had left the nest and were waiting for their mom. This isntruly a beautiful quiet place, and we are glad to come here once in a while for nature photography and a nice picnic.

Spring River Zoo

Spring River Zoo is a 34-acre preserve located at Spring-River Park & Zoo, covering an area of 14 hectares. Visitors can observe a variety of animals such as bison, prairie dogs, lynxes, lemurs, and longhorns. The zoo also features an antique carousel with horses, a train that circles the park, a small lake, and a children's playground.
This is an outstanding little free zoo. Parking is close, and there are quite a few animals within a short walk. I think it would be well worth your time if you're in the area. It also gives you a needed break from the tourist traps in the area.
Chris W — Google review
With a city population under 50k I'm impressed Roswell has a Zoo, especially being free. Donations are greatly appreciated! We relocated here 3 weeks ago from another state and have been three times. It's great for toddlers. The animals are not out regularly and it's taken three visits to see all of them. There are also plenty of covered picnic tables and 2 playgrounds however one playground is blocked off. Roswell had extensive flooding October 2024 and several places are still in recovery mode. If you're an out of towner this is a great place to burn some time (15-20 minutes) and if you're new to town it's a nice little outting for little ones.
Pam D — Google review
It's free. Small. But has some fun animals. Only took 2 grown adults about 15 minutes to walk through. Definitely a great way to take some kids out for free entertainment. But consider donating to help keep these animals healthy.
Christina P — Google review
When I got to the parking lot I couldn't see the zoo and they have a big trailer home next to the entrance. I thought you were supposed to go to to get tickets. Finding it empty, I walked into the zoo and found the first couple cages warn out, going a little farther in everything changed. They had it fixed up, remodeled and more changes coming. It's a free zoo looking for donations. As I got more into the zoo the more it was impressive. Lots of people were working, but no one said a word to me. I was the only person touring the zoo which was fine. I was there for about an hour and all of a sudden people started to come in. Meeting many of them I found people to be friendly and personable. I left with a smile on my face and lots of animals and people that greeted me.
Roger H — Google review
Great little small town gem. I recommend visiting. Animals seem well cared for even if the property is run down and they are close to you while viewing.
Kristen K — Google review
Absolutely the worst zoo I’ve ever been to. My son was so traumatized it was tragic. The animals are neglected, there’s no shade for them. I didn’t see any water. Every other 4 cages had actual animals to see. It was desolate and no caretakers in sight. They need to shut this place down.
D'Raye R — Google review
This free zoo is amazing just because it's free.

International UFO Museum and Research Center and Gift Shop

Mentioned on
35 lists
Museum
Gift shop
The International UFO Museum and Research Center and Gift Shop, established in 1991, is located in the heart of Roswell. It focuses on the 1947 Roswell Crush and other UFO incidents. The museum features extensive exhibits documenting stories about UFOs and theories about the Roswell incident. Visitors can explore witness statements, newspaper cuttings, extended essays, homemade models, and mock-ups related to the event. Additionally, it boasts an extensive library with a comprehensive collection of UFO-related materials.
In February 2025, we visited the International UFO Museum in Roswell, New Mexico. We were on a road trip and visiting National Parks and historical sites in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Carlsbad Caverns National Parks does not allow for any tours after 2:30 PM, so we decided to visit Roswell, NM for the alien attractions. By the time that we arrived at the International UFO Museum, it was closed; nevertheless, the alien decorations and scenery in Roswell were super fun to see. Legend/history has it that an alien landing happened in 1947, and Roswell has been enjoying and benefiting from that legend/history for the past 78 years. Thank you, International UFO Museum of Roswell, New Mexico, for contributing to our amazing Southwestern United States road trip experience. I included pictures of the International UFO Museum and some of the surrounding stores that all have clever alien displays.
John C — Google review
This was a fantastic place to learn about aliens and the history of Roswell. I especially enjoyed the museum’s library wing, which is filled with fascinating alien-related materials as well as historical archives from the region. The main exhibit area was equally impressive, offering an engaging and extensive collection of displays that bring Roswell’s unique history to life.
Travis D — Google review
Visitor Guide: What to Expect at the Roswell UFO Museum If you're planning a trip to the International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico, especially because of the legendary 1947 Roswell Incident, it’s worth going in with the right expectations. Much like the Stanley Hotel in Colorado, this is more about myth, inspiration, and lore than hard evidence or high-tech immersion. Let’s start with the basics. The museum has relocated in recent years, and the signage makes it easy to find. Admission is inexpensive, the facility is clean, and everything is easy to navigate on foot. But rather than a traditional museum with interactive exhibits, the experience leans more toward an archive-style presentation with static displays and research materials. About a third of the exhibits focus on the Roswell crash itself, though much of that section is filled with photocopied documents, legal affidavits, newspaper clippings, and personal statements. These are interesting from a historical perspective, but they can also be a bit confusing or inconsistent. For example, one account described an egg-shaped craft on a military truck, while another mentioned four alien beings instead of the commonly reported three. These contradictions are thought-provoking, but they may leave you uncertain rather than enlightened. The museum’s standout feature is its library. For serious UFO researchers or long-time enthusiasts, it’s a goldmine, offering thousands of books, magazines, and original articles. If you’ve got time and curiosity, you could spend days here. But if you’re just a casual visitor looking for a dramatic retelling or visual recreation of the Roswell incident, this may feel underwhelming. That brings us to what’s missing. There’s a crash simulation video reenactment, but it’s not of the 1947 Roswell crash. You obviously won’t find any original debris or declassified documents, only replicas and interpretive summaries. Interactive exhibits are minimal, and while there are a few side rooms with additional content, most of it is modest in scope. Roswell itself is quite isolated, with very little else to do in the area. The museum can be fully explored in two to three hours, and for many visitors, a half-day is more than enough. If seeing it is a lifelong curiosity or bucket-list item, it’s worth the drive. But don’t expect a sprawling entertainment complex. A side note: The front desk staff mentioned to my wife and I that the actual crash site was once open to visitors, but access has been revoked due to repeated issues with disrespectful tourists. Today, it’s just a quiet ranch with no public entry. In the end, I’d rate the museum three out of five stars. One star off because I hoped for a deeper focus on the Roswell crash itself, and another due to the location’s remoteness and lack of surrounding attractions. Final thought: If you’re passionate about UFO history and love digging into primary sources, this place has real value. But if you’re chasing a cinematic experience or looking for definitive answers, you may leave with more questions than when you arrived. Either way, safe travels, and keep an open mind.

This is such a fun place to visit whether you are a believer in UFOs or a skeptic. There are so many displays & pictures to read about, so you can make up tour own mind based upon the information provided. You can spend anywhere from a couple hours to all day. Would highly recommend & would happily return.
Tina S — Google review
Fun museum to wander thru! A lot to see & read. There is also a 25 minute video. Good price for admission.
Irene E — Google review
It was great to get to this museum. It is small and easily navigable. Lots of photos and reading, some video, on display, done on a timeline- more of a historical recount of significant events and people, very informative for newbies. My favorite part of the museum was the back wall which displays a quote by Stan Friedman. The gift shop has something for everyone! Parking is easy, the museum has two lots one right next to the building, the other is directly across the street. This really is a must see for anyone interested in the topic. It will take a leisurely one hour to get through it, if you are intent on reading all parts of the exhibit, you will need more time. The museum is located right in the heart of the Main Street of Roswell close to other attractions and restaurants. It is an easy walk in any direction to see other things on your check list.
D H — Google review
This was a walk on your own museum tour. They have every alien ufo encounter documented in binders. You learn as much as you read for yourself! They do allow pets on the tour which is so helpful when traveling with fur buddy’s!!!
J A — Google review
We always look for fun, unconventional attractions in our travels and this museum certainly fit the bill. Doesn't matter if you're a believer or skeptic it's a nice place to visit. There are some cornball displays that will amuse you, and some more serious displays that just might leave you questioning some things. A real highlight of our trip and definitely recommended

The Roswell Visitors Center is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the city. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, offering great suggestions for places to visit, including pet-friendly establishments. They are well-informed about closures due to Covid and can point out free attractions as well as individual prices for others. The center also offers a variety of souvenirs and even provides free souvenir photos and lip balm. Additionally, visitors can get information on upcoming festivals and events in the area.
Loved exploring Roswell! Started here at the Roswell visitor center. The workers there gave us lots of ideas to see things! Didn't take a whole lot of pictures but thanks for your info!

Come to get your photo with Aliens! It’s free from the Visitors Center. They will also give you a map of alien spots to visit around Roswell. If you are into the Alien story this is a great place to come. The actual site of the landing is actual quite far away from Roswell and not open to the public.

Pecos Flavors Winery + Bistro, established in 2004 by Paul and Cindy Ragsdale, is a popular spot in Roswell. The winery offers a variety of local wines like the Compadres and has a tasting room conveniently located downtown. In addition to their wine selection, the bistro serves up delicious meals in an indoor-outdoor setting with live music. The charming space includes a bar, wine bar, dining deli counter side, and outdoor patio area.
My husband and I are here from out of town for my birthday weekend. I am so happy about this choice for lunch. Geriann and Adele were the best and kept up, even with short staff. The wine and food were excellent. There was a lovely piano man playing- he was the cutest! I couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon.

One of the nicest restaurants/wineries in town. We came during the lunch. They provided a parking lot, but when we got there only 1 spot left. As for the town's theme, an alien statue welcomes you at the door. We seated quickly and live music was going on. Moderate crowd and noise were there. We seated one of the high tables by the wines. I got a bowl of soup of the day and a half sandwich; number 7 (turkey with chipotle puree and red onion). and also got a wine flight. The soup was good it had pork and chickpeas. Cooked perfectly fine, and had fewer pieces of pork but still good. The flavor had a good balance. I enjoyed it. About the sandwich; even though I ordered a half, I thought it was going to be a little bigger than what they served. It finished in 2-3 bites. Good for a kid. At least it had a good amount of turkey for a small bite. About the wine flight; since I had not tried any of their wines before, I just asked for something red but not sweet or super sweet. The flight came with 3 wines. Only one of them was enjoyable for my taste. And, one of them was super sweet, it tasted like a German hot wine but not hot. My husband got a burger with mushrooms and a beer flight. The burger was good. As for the beer, we weren't able to pick. It was whatever was on draft. Some of them were good, the others were bitter. It was my birthday, so we wanted to try one of their desserts as well. Went with the raspberry cheesecake. It was a good touch, not overly sweet. They put a candle. Cute. But no clean utensils for the dessert. As for service; our server was nice, but seemed like running around a lot, passing around the tables with nothing. We had to draw attention a few times. And, definitely, no one took off the empty plates from the table. The table was already small with plates, flights, and water glasses even for 2 people, once the dessert came we had to put the plates together. My husband even asked if she could remove them, she said in a second but those were there until we left. Same with the bill; we asked for the bill. It came, we put on our credit card and waited, waited and waited. I could ask for another flight while waiting. Anyway, we were so over with it, and collected all the cash on us to pay the bill & tip. It wasn't like only one server working thing. Even so, if a server brings something to any table, should take a dirty one from any table while going back to the kitchen. This is time management and saving the trip.

This place is not well known, but it has a cool atmosphere, great live music on certain days, and really good food. I believe they have the best cooks in town. I haven't had a meal that I haven't enjoyed. My server Danielle was awesome and was very attentive to my needs and always checked in on me. Great experience!

This place exceeded expectations for sure. The green chile burger was phenomenal. Huge juicy patty. Flavorful chiles. Perfectly crisp bacon. Really good. Alien IPA also better than expected.

What a great place. Traveling from FL and Geri was our amazing hostess. Recommend the Dos Equis “dressed” and the berry cider. LOVED the Caesar salad and the pumpkin butter board. Highly recommend

This is just off the beaten path in Roswell and is the nicest restaurant we found while there. The staff is outstanding, very helpful and informative about the wine they make and about the menu. We went for lunch and had a lovely time, we were never hurried as we ordered an hors d'oeuvre, entrees and finally dessert. We took our time to dine, it was a treat. Food is excellent, comes out hot and beautifully presented. Our server was delightful and patient with our questions about the wine. We sampled several ones and then ordered 3 different flights. We sampled quite an assortment of their wines. I highly recommend the white wines over the reds. The Pinot Grigio and the Cabernet Blanc were dry, light bodied whites, served chilled, nice for a hot summer day.

Museums
Nestled in the heart of Roswell, New Mexico, the Roswell Museum and Art Center is a vibrant hub for culture and education that has been captivating visitors since its establishment in 1937. Spanning an impressive 50,000 square feet, this dynamic center features a diverse array of exhibits across twelve galleries that celebrate both art and history. Art enthusiasts will delight in the works of renowned Southwestern artists like Georgia O'Keeffe, Peter Hurd, and Henriette Wyeth.
Wow. The honk if you don't exist exhibit really spoke to me . The lay out of the bldg is ..... convoluted and the map is not to scale but it's a beautiful place and I honestly prefer to be a little lost in a museum. The pricing is fair and the staff was friendly. There's many different exhibits on display right now, even though two of them are closed currently to be re installed . Writing this before I get to see the planetarium movie , but I'm excited for that as well.

If you are going to this museum for primarily extraterrestrial related exhibits than you should really save your time and money. Now that is not to say that this museum was a waste of time. The museum was very clean and had excellent exhibits. There were a number of exhibits regarding Native Americans, weapons and the first rockets ever launched by the United States. There is also a very exciting planetary laser show in the auditorium at the museums entrance. The show is held several times a day at set times that you will be informed of at the front desk. There is also a fair amount of interesting art that is on display there. Roswell sure had a lot of extraterrestrial paraphernalia in the town but things like this museum teach you little more about the town. I believe you and your family will have a fun time navigating the exhibits.

This was not the UFO museum, but it was SO much better. So happy we stayed to look around because it was such a well-built museum. Roswell has such a rich and beautiful history and it was so nice to see it preserved here. Please visit this museum if you're in town!

I honestly had no clue what to expect. I just drove to the closest place of interest that my hotel pointed me to. I had fun, it was a bit like a maze and the lady in the gift shop was wonderful to talk to and a wealth of neat facts about the different resident artist. I enjoy history and they had 2 interesting history areas, one on the American west and the other on Robert Goddard. Some of the themed installation were truly imaginative. Would love to come back for the next theme.

Stunning museum, way more stuff on show then I ever thought. Probably one of the best small town museums I've ever been to, totally worth the entry fee and an hour to walk around in the air conditioning. Huge exhibits to art, science and history. Rocketry room donated by the Goddard's was a fascinating look at the early days of rocket science in America. All sorts of interesting details of the tools and equipment used. Huge number of historical artifacts as well, from ancient New Mexico history, to early guns and weapons used in a range of conflicts, even a couple of suites of armor! Staff was helpful and kind, entire place was clean and cool.
Jesse C — Google review
We spent about an hour and a half here. I wouldn't expect spending anymore time than that. Had some interesting displays and the kids thought about half of them were interesting. Had American west historical stuff along with rocketry history with Robert Goddard and some native American cultural stuff. Worth checking out if you have an hour or so to spend.

The Roswell Museum was founded in 1936 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and opened in late 1937 . This magnificent museum exhibits the art and cultural history of the American Southwest, and also houses a very realistic reproduction of the laboratory or Robert H. Goddard of Worcester, Massachusetts, an early rocketry pioneer. In addition, the museum includes an advanced planetarium and an artist-in-residence program.

Clines Corners Travel Center

Gift & Specialty Shops
Stopping at Clines Corners has been a family tradition for me since childhood, nearly half a century ago. The gift shop offers a wide variety of merchandise—Southwest, New Mexico, alien, Sasquatch, Native American, and more. It’s also a great spot to stretch your legs on the long drive across the high plains. Prices vary; some items are noticeably higher than at other souvenir stops, while others are still quite reasonable for the 2020s. The site also features an ice cream shop, nearby gas, and RV camping. This wasn’t my first visit, and it certainly won’t be my last.

Interesting, but something seems off. I wasn't comfortable inside. I know it sounds odd but it's the best words I can use to describe being there. They had a wide variety of candies and snacks and tons of souvenirs. Space and alien focus.
Liz L — Google review
This is definitely an interesting place. When we walked in it kind of stunk and it definitely has a dirty travel center/truckstop feel. There’s still a lot of interesting things to look at and the bathrooms while they were not immaculately clean they were serviceable. The store had a variety of things for tourist to pick up. Easy to get into and out of. Would stop there again.
D B — Google review
Never again ! Don't believe the billboards that you see for 20 miles before you get to this place. Bathrooms are not clean as advertised . If you are a truck driver keep riding nobody here is concerned about you. Showers are not clean at 2:30 pm on a Sunday. Parking lot has trash everywhere.I sure wish I would have kept driving. The only thing I won't complain about is the 2 people that work in the subway very nice and hard working

What a unique travel stop along historic Route 66! This location is not only visually distinctive, but it’s also a great place to stock up on snacks, souvenirs, and travel essentials. Ladies, this was a very clean bathroom. Neither the doors nor walls go all the way to the floor, so remember to hang your purse on the hook. The store was well-stocked. Long line today, but we were able to check-out at the candy counter.

Loved this NM SP. it does have electric hookups on some sites. We had one but kept the windows open it was so nice n cool. Lovely trails all around the camp area. It has a dump for rv. You can fill up on water when you are there but not when you leave. The toilets are pit ones they were under some construction but I assume will be working soon.

Nice campgrounds. RV spots look pretty level with good shade shelters. However, only community water sources (not at each camp site) and there are only pit toilets and NO showers. Really? The only flush toilets were at the visitor center however the staff had those locked up. Again, really? Trail system is nice. Very nice big group camping area.

Back again the April in our 38 Renegade. Sites are limited for bigger rigs so make reservations. Monday, April 8th and the park is full. We were passing thru and could only find one site, #8, that was even close to fitting us. Very tight fit with a jeep beside us. But, very pretty location. Electric is 30A & no water connection. Water is available at several spigots around the park. There is a central dump. Our site is located at a Y, so the opening allows for 100mbs of Starlink. AT&T service is 4 bars, 20lbs but when streaming it continually stutters (bandwidth limit?) except on VPN which hides the streaming. Easier to deploy Starlink. There are several trails here. Come prepared. Roads in/out are muddy after rains and they have warning signs. Nearby Mountainair has very limited supplies.
Ron G — Google review
Great remote campground. Very well maintained and compliments to Rick our camp host, who resolved a minor issue we had on arrival. Water is gravity fed and does not have normal water pressure so plan accordingly. Also ensure you call the campground directly before booking a site to make sure Reserve America marked the site correctly as electric or not. It the past RA miss categorized a site as electric that was not. Road is paved until gate entrance, then gravel road for about a quarter of a mile until campground. Small hikes within park but nearby National Forest has amazing options.

Lewis Antique Auto & Toy Museum

This is a MUST see when traveling on Route 66. It is a family owned business and you can see and feel the love and appreciation in the vehicle collection, toy collections, and among the Rusted Relics on the property. I spent over two hours here admiring someone's passion for automobiles. The greatest collection of antique Ford Cars exists here, and this place is a National Treasure. My sincerest Thank you to the owner for letting me appreciate your enthusiasm for cars and trucks. Thank you to your step daughter for showing me your first car and for recommending Blake's Lotaburger, another New Mexico Treasure.

My wife and I had a great time looking around! I had never seen so many Crosley's in one place. We spent about 3 hours looking at the collection. Also spent a bit of time talking with Dale. Kind of wish we could have met his dad. WoW!! what a collection. A GREAT place. Also, call ahead.

Found this place by accident and decided to stop because I love old cars and toys. This place is a gem run by a wonderful older gentleman. I've been to a lot of car museums and this one is worth the drive! Never have I been able to get so close to an old car outside of an auction. They have about 20 or so restored cars in excellent condition inside the barn, and a field with well over a hundred rusted ones that are cool to look at as well. Highly recommend!

I really wish this were a year round venue. It could be a petting zoo in the off season, fireworks show in the summer (July), 2 months of fall/ Halloween and 2 months of holiday/Christmas themes. It is such a fun, clean, family oriented place!

This is a fun place to spend some time with the family. Enjoyed the games, the train ride, corn fields were a little too dusty for my Liking but I enjoyed the haunted maze and the food was delicious.

Well, this is absolutely great little place to visit and is perfect families. We have a 6 month old, and she was able to see all the animals, enjoy the castle, and all the fun sensory things for her. Everything here is pretty unique and cool. My wife agrees that this was definitely worth the ticket cost, and we should've came here earlier in the month. The hayride and the pumpkin patch was really cute and the pumpkins are not that expensive either. The pulled pork sandwich was good and even the glazed pecans. Again, all of this is way less expensive then what we had back home. The activities, the events, the corn maze. All this was so much fun, and absolutely a blast. I would recommend checking it out.
Dr. W — Google review
I really like this place (like I take my family every year) but they are severely understaffed. I'm not sure if it's attributed to the amount of growth they've had in recent years or just the geographic location but I hope they can adapt to the change. The good: it's authentic, it has many offerings it's exactly what I personally think is a "fall pumpkin patch" in New Mexico. We always have a good time I personally want to spend more time there however that's where the "not so good" comes into play. We definitely need better parking situation it's not the parking but the getting in that is awkward mostly long because the bottleneck situation. (They need 2 entrences or traffic control earlier) The second awkward thing is buying tickets online and having to get in line to buy punch cards and get wristbands. Why? After you get your initial onboarding situation it's purely family fun and chaos. Now we always have fun mostly trying to get the entire family to each personality preferences and abilities, my family is large with 6 kids (2 yrs 5 yrs 9 yrs 11 yrs 36yrs and 40 yrs 😂) we go everywhere we can in the time it takes for everyone to have a meltdown down. By that time we are basically arguing about is it time to leave or can we make it through the pumpkin patch and pick our favorites? can we do lunch? Etc. Typically we eat and that's the main awkward thing I always get peeved about. It's typically hot and dry in high altitude climate, by the time our mid afternoon lunch comes around we want a place to sit comfortably in the shade. Not very many options for shade or comfort. The real food options are getting better much more options than before. A few large options for big family's should be considered as I saw many large family's or multigenerational family's attending today. I also think drink options should be "healthier" I don't mind my sugar treats but sometimes I just want tea, Good ol fashioned brewed tea. Maybe something else that's supposed to be more hydrating and less sugar? (I'm borderline diabetic) My review isn't meant to be very critical but more observational. I really like this place and it's close to being a New Mexico institution like Uncle Cliffs was\is. But keep the authentic feel and take the opportunity to see where families like myself spend $500 plus as a day to use the input for next years season.
Jonathan G — Google review
Awesome experience! Amazing to see the growth since coming here as kid. They have done a great job logistically and organized the large crowd effectively, to the point where it never felt crowded even though there must've been hundreds of people halloween night!

I’m a fan of Horror nights in Universal Studios & I can say this is as close as you can get or even better!!! Outstanding 👏👏👏 was unable to go to the farm part but they had a castle for kids and I mean this place is HUGE!!!! So many activities. I’m impressed! I’m from Texas & NM did a great job!
Esperanza V — Google review
Plenty of family fun, but costly. There are lots of fall activities, and they are well staffed to manage crowds. However, for a family of 3 the cost was $80 just to walk in the door, before food or pumpkins.

My family and Ii loved this place. This was our first time here. There are tons of activities included with the admission price and the lines fo them were not too long either, so they got to do almost everything there was to do. I hate long lines, so I was a happy parent as well. The food seemed fairly priced from the things I saw. I LOVED the funnel cake (which I had never tasted before!) it was incredible! This place surpassed all my expectations. We're definitely coming back next year!

Opened in 1994, this 122-acre native plant & rescue-animal habitat also hosts performances.
What a wonderful rescue sanctuary for birds and animals who can no longer return to the wild. Very lovely facility, they have a Wild West theme and hold some community events throughout the year. So many interesting stories of how the animals came to live here. They all have names and are happy to see you. We thoroughly enjoyed the paved walkway, we didn't get a chance to do the nature trail walk but will come back another time. We had a great time, it's just off the highway and easy to get to.

This is a must see! We stayed with the harvest host program. The animals are so loved and cared for here. You get to see them up close. The hybrid wolf was my favorite. They have a cute western town set up with great picnic spots and beautiful views of the mountains lovely gardens a trail or two to walk along with the walking path to see the animals is concrete looks like some of it was poured by the local Boy Scout group. The animals are the star of the show! The animals seem to enjoy the people coming to see them. My 9 year old loved this stop so much he wants to run a place like this when he grows up. This is a must see! Being from Massachusetts this was a wonderful way to get immersed into New Mexico’s plants, animals and scenery!

This place is incredible! They have an impressive array of animals and birds, and the staff is very friendly. My favorite part of this place is that you can tell the staff actually care about the animals - and that the animals genuinely seem to enjoy seeing humans. I felt great supporting Wildlife West and their mission. Highly recommended if you want to bolster your trip with a dose of beautiful nature - while contributing to something you can feel good about. Heidi (the wolfdog) will even come give you a howl! 🐺

We visited a hidden gem of a zoo in Edgewood, not too far from Albuquerque, and had the best time! The place is surprisingly big, and the animals there are so friendly and well taken care of. It honestly deserves way more visitors — we were the only ones there that day, which made the experience peaceful but also a little sad because this amazing place should be shared and appreciated more. You can really tell the animals are happy and used to people. We had so much fun walking around, taking our time, and getting up close to the animals. It’s such a special spot, perfect for a day trip with family or friends. I truly hope more people find out about this zoo — it’s absolutely worth the visit!

My wife found this as a harvest host. An interesting place to stop this nature park takes in wildlife that has been injured and gives them new homes. A very interesting tour. You can see the animals and they’re very well taken care of. They offer room for your RV. They could accommodate a large motorhome along with travel trailers and fifth wheels. There’s no water or electric, but it was a quiet place to rest. Felt very safe in this place it is gated. They open the gate at nine and they are locked at six. They give you a list with an emergency contact number in the event of. In your stay all they ask is for a donation. They do have a nice gift shop.
Scott J — Google review
We went on a Friday an hour before they closed and it was very empty, but we did get to see a lot of animals. The animals are all native to NM but are not necessarily from NM. I wish the glass in some of the exhibits was cleaner. The staff didn't realize we were still in there and locked up before we could leave! Almost got stuck in there with the animals, haha. Maybe don't go too close to when they close.

Amazing place with wonderful owners! Animals are well cared for and friendly and the couple who own the park are super sweet and obviously care deeply for the animals. Highly recommend visiting if in the area, very much worth seeing.

This is an amazing place with many critters to enjoy. The residents are all rescued and are unable to be released into the wild do to injuries or having been imprinted on humans. You wont find a kinder staff. Each animal has its story on a sign on the exhibits along with other educational information. This is a non profit that can use all the help they can get. Please support if you are in the area, or even driving through as it like one minute off of I-40.

The Lamy station is a must see on any trip to New Mexico. Only 20 miles by car from Santa Fe, or if your on the Southwest Chief it definitely is a unique experience. Clean waiting room, clean external waiting area, clean and nice toilet. Even wifi is working, which is important given bad mobile coverage at the station area. No food (as of end of May 2021), but this doesn't really matter. Station is open only when Amtrak trains are passing by.
Mikhail V — Google review
Lamy station is closing. Very nice older train station. Must see before closing. Train museum across road with very elegant old Western bar. Some older train cars stored on tracks outside train station. Picnic park with older trees for must needed shade.

Here is where D. H. Lawrence's ashes sat forgotten, and whether they're the same ashes which are now buried in Taos is still debated. The Santa Fe Railroad bypassing Santa Fe with this station in Lamy almost killed the capital, but the spur to Santa Fe and certain amount of ingenuity make this location both picturesque and important the State of New Mexico's history. If you're riding the Amtrak through here, imagine for a second all the Soviet Spies, Scientists, and movie stars that have looked out these windows which now surround you!

Paako Ridge Golf Club

Golf club
Outdoor Activities
Golf course
Paako Ridge Golf Club is a stunning course located in the mountains near Albuquerque, New Mexico. The terrain and native vegetation provide an interesting backdrop for a challenging round of golf. With big elevated tee boxes and lots of wind, the course offers incredible scenery and a dramatic, immaculate challenge. The original #4 features an impressive 80-yard long green complex, while numerous tee shots have elevation changes of 40-50 feet.
I have had the pleasure to play out here a few times. This is a gem for New Mexico. The course is beautifully designed, with stunning views of the Sandia Mountains. The layout is challenging yet fair, offering a great mix of elevation changes and well-placed hazards. The course conditions were impeccable. The fairways are always lush and well-maintained, and the greens were fast and true. Remember it always breaks away from the mountain. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into keeping this course in top shape. The staff were friendly and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed for a great day of golf. One of the highlights was the signature 8th hole, a par 3 with breathtaking scenery that really stands out. The clubhouse is also impressive, with excellent facilities and a welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant has always impressed us with great options that complement the entire experience.

Joe the Manager, Tia the attentive waitress, and the talented culinary team created an unforgettable Mother’s Day Brunch at Paako Golf Club. From the impeccable service to the mouthwatering dishes and breathtaking mountain views, every detail exceeded expectations. Nestled on the scenic far side of the Sandia Mountains, this hidden gem offers one of the finest dining experiences near Albuquerque—at a surprisingly reasonable price. If you haven’t discovered it yet, you’re missing out on the best-kept secret in New Mexico dining.

Paako Golf is an absolutely amazing course—breathtaking views and top-notch conditions. The staff was incredible, especially Morgan. He went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and taken care of from the start. Great vibes all around. If you’re looking for a premier golf experience in New Mexico, this is it. Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!

Gorgeous day at Paako Ridge. The course is immaculate. A great track right up there with Pebble Beach and Spyglass. Make sure and play the correct tees. Don’t be a hero. Hit it straight as sometimes 10 yards offline can find you in the forest. Have fun.

This is our second time at Paako. The first time we played golf and ate lunch and this second time we just came for lunch. We had the mussels, eggs Benedict, chicken friend chicken and eggs, steak and eggs, baked oysters, hamburger, and Cesar salad with a crab cake as a side to my hamburger. The mussels are phenomenal and I definitely recommend trying them. This time they were a little bit spicier but it was amazing! I am not disappointed eating here. Paako has great food and an amazing view. Nice for a date or Sunday brunch.

Restaurant Review Only: Stopped here for lunch on my way from Los Cerrillos and decided to grab a bite to eat. The valet and restaurant staff were very friendly and inviting when I arrived. I chose to sit out on the patio in the shade with a great view of the course. Joe was very attentive and friendly, which added to the nice ambiance. Joe suggested the Lobster Roll, which I ended up getting, and was so glad that I did. The lobster was sweet and tender, and the French fries were fresh along with a nice spicy aioli that i requested. The margarita was nice and refreshing, especially since it was very warm out. I'd love to come back and experience another meal here, and the views can't be beat.

Great conditions, beautiful course with challenging green complexes. Friendly people both in the pro shop and restaurant. Food was excellent with gluten free options which we greatly appreciated! Nice bar area and patio. We’ll definitely return!!

Tinkertown Museum is a unique and charming stop located below the Sandia Mountains, featuring elaborate handmade dioramas of Old West scenes and antique toys created by Ross Ward. The museum is closed for the winter from November 1st to April 1st, so it's best to visit during the warmer seasons. Visitors can explore the fascinating exhibits and interact with Claire, the friendly owner who is available to answer questions about the displays.
This place is absolutely amazing. A man who created it passed in 2002, but the hours and hours that he spent show his creativity, his artistic talent, his desire to do more with his life than just watch TV. Millions of items that he has collected are displayed artistically, as well as many things that he created himself as an artist. It was a surprise. I wasn’t expecting it to be this awe-inspiring.
Denney L — Google review
This place unique, fun and quirky. If you like weird and interactive museums, this place is for you. The amount of time, energy and creativity that went into building this place is nothing short of amazing. My family had a wonderful time and would recommend to visit if you are in the area. Quick tips include bring quarters, parking lot is small and tight and wear good shoes as there ants in the gravel after rains.
Lucretia W — Google review
Amazing collection of miniatures and wood carvings! This is a great place for both young and old. However, there is a lot of uneven flooring, so step carefully and have fun! Also, the admission is reasonable so families, you can afford this. The gift shop is a fantastic collection of some of the most reasonably priced products. The gift shop team are friendly and knowledgeable about the artist, the area, and New Mexico, they were a joy to talk with.
Xina S — Google review
Tinkertown Museum is a very whimsical and enchanting place to visit for children of all ages. The imagination of the artist who built the exhibits by hand is just amazing. Many of the miniatures move, adding excitement to the displays. You can walk through quickly, but then you will miss the details and many of the intetesting stories and articles on the walls. We spent at least 1 1/2 hours at the museum and enjoyed every minute. There is a gift shop on site, as well as a small parking lot.

A must see if you ever go to Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is worth every penny to see these place! To start the owner she is the most friendliest person we met so far! This place is one of the coolest unique places I’ve ever been too! Everything has a story to tell and there is so much to see! I would definitely recommend bringing some quarters for some of the interaction! Don’t forget to visit the resale shop! It has some very reasonable prices and really quiet trinkets!
Kimbow S — Google review
I only had one other comparable art experience to Tinkertown: in Cuba, we visited the museum of a man who’d made his entire home into mosaic tile artwork. This had the same vibe: a sprawling vision of a single artist’s creativity, in which a whole world is created. Art like this transcends what we normally think of with consuming art: it becomes an experience, a delight, a wonderland. Textured with walls of asphalt and 50,000 bottles, the artwork boasts the creativity of an artist using whatever is at their disposal, alchemizing it all into beauty, folklore, and story. The exhibit is part Wild, Wild West, part carnival, part circus, and all parts magic. I left the museum (after finding a few delightful treasures at the gift shop) thinking about the impact a single imagination can leave behind. While the creator, Ross Ward, sadly passed of Alzheimer’s in 2002, here I am decades later still marveling at his creative work and incomparable vision. It’s a one of a kind, unforgettable experience, and the people working there were incredibly kind and welcoming. I enjoyed all the quarter machines and the wishing well too.
Anne C — Google review
Tinkertown is one of those magical places that never gets old, no matter how many times you’ve been. Every visit brings back so many good memories—walking through those quirky little rooms, peeking at all the tiny handmade details, and feeling like you’ve stepped right into Ross Ward’s wonderfully whimsical brain. It’s hard not to smile knowing how much love and imagination he poured into every corner. We've been coming here for years, and each trip feels like a little time capsule of happiness. You wander, you laugh, you point things out to your friends like you’ve just discovered them for the first time. Even though we have been there many times, we always seem to find something new. And let’s be real—the goodie bags at the end? Always a highlight. Even as adults we always have to buy one, or several for the memories. It's perfect little parting gift that keeps the magic going even after you leave. If you’ve never been, go. If you have been, go again. Some places are worth revisiting forever, and Tinkertown is one of them. You seriously cannot beat the prices at $6 per adult. Its affordable to go back many times.
Lorraine M — Google review
In all our travels, this was one that ranks as one of the most whimsical and unique - you could easily spend one to two hours here, with or without kids. The photos don't quite do the displays justice... it is well worth the detour (as is the drive to the top of Sandia Crest). Be sure to look for many of the interactive displays - some require a quarter, some do not. And for those that collect smashed pennies, well... you're in luck. I enjoyed the story behind the boat Theodora R and enjoyed reading "Ten Years Behind the Mast" - available at the gift shop.

The Mine Shaft Tavern & Cantina

$$$$affordable
Bar & grill
Rustic roadside saloon established in 1899 offering draft beer, New Mexican fare & live music.
Located in the City of Madrid - made famous by the movie Wild Hogs (because it brings so many people to Madrid now!). But this establishment well preceded Hollywood fame as a local watering hole for miners. This restaurant has the a cantina side (with outdoor seating) and the older saloon side. Food was very good. Enjoyed the fried Chili appetizer . The burgers were very large and delicious. Given you are in New Mexico, all the burgers come with green or hatch chili’s. Comfortable old time atmosphere that feels a bit from the 1800’s. You will enjoy it.

Highly recommended for a reason! Friendly and welcoming servers in one of the coolest historical taverns around. Consistently gorgeous plates cooked to perfection continually left the kitchen. The kitchen crew are truly superheroes! We arrived on a busy holiday just before the place packed up but there was always a table for newcomers. The Cantina side was quieter with covered outdoor seating. The Mad Chile Burger is truly a work of art and a sensation on your tastebuds! Paired with crisply fried green chiles & fries/ sweet potato fries. We enjoyed the wagyu-med rare & the buffalo- rare. Both were delicious but I leaned towards the Wagyu which is raised just up the road. The tasty Green Chile stew with beef brisket has heat yet not burn you to death spice. I couldn’t resist a slice of carrot cake to top off my happily packed tummy. Guaranteed returning guest! Side note- grabbed a T-shirt that must be “balloon fest” prices at $35 without tax? While a server stated they’re normally $25…

We stopped here while passing through Madrid on Labor Day weekend, and the whole town was buzzing! The tavern itself wasn't too busy that we couldn't find a seat. We weren't expecting too much once we sat down, but we were pleasantly surprised at how good everything was! The food exceeded expectations for sure! I got the BLT, which also had avocado on it and it was amazing. So were the fries! The food was amazing and we had wonderful service from Alex!

Fun place with lots of photo ops. We sat outside by the locomotive under the roof in open air. We had a large group. Everyone liked their meal. I had Christmas enchiladas. When I ask if the sauce was hot and spicy, they said not really. I'm a wimp so it was spicy!!!! Just sayin' if you are, too. Christmas means they give you both red and green sauce for those non locals from the northern states. Everyone else loved it tho! Tough parking, but great spot to shop the shops when done. The movie "Wild Hogs" was filmed down the street.

Made the short drive to Madrid while visiting SF and it was worth it. A very historic and eclectic bar/restaurant with good food and drinks. The service was excellent and the appetizers were had were delish (we had about 4 of them, can’t recall which ones but we enjoyed them all). Would definitely recommend if in the area!

The food was delicious. The atmosphere is great. The service was OK, but it was worth the trip. I had the mad chili burger 🍔 and fries 🍟 my wife had the blackjack burger and the Caprese salad 🥗 😋. We did not stay in town too long. Just because it was full of bearded woman men, note to self never again will I go in June that's for the weirdos.

Always love a good local experience. The wagyu beef mushroom burger was excellent, espresso martini delicious. Sara Dee was not only a great server, knowing I was low on gas in this rural area, she kindly helped me find the best route to the nearest station. Thank you. If you're passing through Madrid, dine here. Highly recommend.

Incredible visit to this shop in Madrid. Do not miss it if you pass through. The owner was a wealth of knowledge and felt like visiting with an old friend. The hibiscus ginger white chocolate was otherworldly.

The white chocolate with hibiscus, ginger and lemon is absolutely one-of-a-kind and truly awe inspiring. That’s my favorite and the lavender chocolate in white or milk is also something of dreams.

Visited while touring the area. I’m not a big fan of chocolate but I prefer milk chocolate if anything. We were able to sample different types of chocolate. The cookies n cream resembling sheet was what my taste buds preferred. Definitely visit if you are a chocolate connoisseur. A little magic, a lot of love and the finest ingredients make for an orgasmic experience of chocolate.🍫

Stopped in the shop while visiting Madrid. They have some incredible flavor combinations. The owners are culinary geniuses and also SO kind. They were great to chat to. I wanted to buy some turtles but knew they would melt if I packed them on my way home, so I ordered some online when I got back. I had some questions via email, and the owners were very responsive. The chocolates arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I will never be able to eat chocolate turtles anywhere else! Seriously so good.

My girlfriend and I stopped in and we were about to taste the chocolate until the guy sitting behind the counter just picked a couple pieces of the chocolate bark woth his bare hands and broke a couple pieces off. He put the pieces in our hands. My girl and I just looked at each other and said thank you and walked out. Not very hygienic. Please at least put some vinyl glove on. If perhaps he was making fresh chocolate. He was sitting behind the counter, who knows if he was handling money or credited cards or whatever. We quietly left and threw the chocolate out.
Joseph L — Google review
Nice little shop where they make chocolate with interesting flavors. My one complaint is that they don't use gloves or tongs. They give you a sample and wrap your chocolate with bare hands and then take cash, touch register, etc. then serving the next customer 🫤

They make candy everyday they're open. Amazing creamy chocolate! organic! We enjoyed the white and dark. Just look at the candy under the glass, it's as beautiful as it is delicious. They also ship! 😋😋

Everything we bought from here tasted absolutely amazing!!! They were very friendly and also gave free tiny samples of the chocolate to help us decide on our purchase. This is a place I just had to see after movie Wild Hogs. I was surprised it wasn't exactly like in the movie, I still enjoyed it any ways. I think it is the coolest town. I did buy a few things. the people where good too. My fellow riders enjoyed coming here to. I don't think any new comer will be disappointed coming here to check it out. The town was neat too. May try to come back in September.

I knew this "diner" had been made into a gift shop so I enjoyed looking around and talking with the guy who runs the place. He was very nice and recommended a great spot for lunch about 10 miles north that wound up being fantastic. Definitely stop in just to see it!

I loved visiting after previously watching Wild Hogs, a 2007 American biker road comedy film directed by Walt Becker and starring Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy. 🏍️ 🐷 🎦 Maggie’s Diner is not a diner, it’s a souvenir store. It has lots of apparel, patches, etc for purchase.

This place is cool. Built for the movie Wild Hogs, it is not a dinner, it’s a store. The town of Madrid is a awesome stop on the turquoise trail. Lots of art and jewelry shops. Great artist in the area. There is a couple of restaurants in this very small town to grab a bite and have a cold drink.

Part of our RT 66 Trip from LA to Chicago, we ventured off the path to check out Maggie’s Diner in Madrid! What an awesome little town, looks just like it did in the movie Wild Hogs! Restaurants were good and lots of cool stuff to buy from wild hogs apparel to eclectic crafts and trinkets. Maggie’s is just a gift shop but amazing none the less, the ride out to the town was worth it and the people are very friendly. We visited in May of 2017 and if your out that way I recommend stopping through.

Although it's a store not a diner, for a Wild Hogs enthusiast it is a must see that puts you right back in Madrid looking over your shoulder for the Del Fuegos!

Maggies Diner is a souvenir, t shirt and gift store. It’s a cool little stop for any Wild Hogs fan. They have a ton of t-shirts to pick from along with other merchandise. Don‘t plan on eating in here though, it is not a diner, only in name. We came through about 9:30 on a Saturday morning and it was literally the store open in Madrid.

Broken Saddle Riding Co, located in Cerrillos, NM, offers a spectacular horseback riding experience through the scenic Cerrillos Hills State Park. The trail provides stunning views of silver and turquoise mines, making it a unique and memorable ride. Visitors praise the knowledgeable and personable guides who ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for riders of all levels. The hilly and rocky terrain adds an extra element of excitement to the journey, while the sunset ride is described as breathtaking.
Spectacular experience. Best thing I've done in New Mexico! Harold is the easiest and best guide. Was extremely clear and simple about how to ride and enjoy. The trail was surprisingly hilly and Rocky which made for fantastic views but also not your run-of-the mill trail ride. Ups and downs on the trail made it really interesting. 5 in our group and Harold kept an easy eye on all while letting us do the ride andamage the horses. All beautiful horses.
Carol L — Google review
Best time ever! The ride was great the views are amazing. We had not ridden in years, you were given information about what to do and not to do, and it made the ride easy and enjoyable. Brad, our guide, gets all the credit for his knowledge of the area, his knowledge of each individual horse and his own personal experiences that were engaging and interesting. We’d love to come back again-and so will you.

No-frills, humble horseback ride. Definitely not a tourist trap. The instructors are serious about safety. You ride up the mountain to absolutely beautiful views, then back down. Wear jeans, boots, hat/sunblock. Also, it's dusty. It's the desert. If you're not familiar with riding, it may be a little scary. I loved every second!

Edit for 2021: We tried to do a trail ride again during the week of thanksgiving 2021, and made reservations for a specific day. As it turns out the old man on the phone had written down the wrong date, and when we called to double check we were met with hostility. “I don’t need you people to tell me what to do” direct quote. And then he cancelled our reservation altogether and did not refund us. Amazing experience. Lovely guides and beautiful trails. I recommend going in the morning when it is cooler during the summer. Loads of fun for all experience levels

This was so fun and such a pleasure to experience. The horses were gorgeous, friendly, and well cared for. Harold is an absolute legend/was a great tour guide and made riding even more enjoyable. I would suggest this experience for anyone who wants to ride and check out the scenery!

I took my 10 year old daughter for an 1hr and 15 minute ride and couldn't have experienced anything better. We were both inexperienced riders and our guide was very informative and made us feel comfortable. It was absolutely beautiful and we had an amazing time. Definitely an unforgettable experience.

We read some of the reviews before we came however I say no matter what always give an individual a chance and go off of your own opinion. Harold was amazing, very personable, gave us a great tour, his lessons while on that tour have surpassed many lessons that I received when horseback riding at other places. I learned so much from him. The sunset ride that we went on and the trail was absolutely breathtaking and he offered to take our picture at the top for us. Thanks for going above and beyond Harold you definitely have our business when we come back to Santa Fe and we let the in know about you as well for great recommendations.

Casa Grande Trading Post

Museums
Casa Grande Trading Post is a must-visit destination in New Mexico, offering a glimpse into the area's rich mining history. The trading post showcases mineral specimens, old mining equipment, and various artifacts from the boom times. Visitors can also explore a fascinating vintage coffee can collection on display. Additionally, the site features a diverse selection of turquoise and interesting antiques for sale. Beyond its historical significance, Casa Grande Trading Post also provides an opportunity to interact with friendly llamas, goats, and chickens.
This fun and old-school shop is full of character — the kind of place that feels like stepping into a time capsule. It’s packed with a wide variety of vintage-style souvenirs, old knickknacks, and local curiosities. The small museum in the back adds a nostalgic touch, and the whole place has a quirky, almost roadside Americana vibe. A great little stop if you enjoy places with a lot of visual charm and a bit of history in every corner.
Kevin L — Google review
Lots of rocks and crystals; however, the price appears a lot higher than other tourist places. We did have fun with the petting zoo. It costs $4 to buy food to feed animals.
Pin L — Google review
Amazing collection of very well priced gems and minerals! The museum was very interesting and well worth the small fee. I would have loved to give 4-5 stars, however, my only concern was the staff was not friendly. I came with my parents and daughter and it seemed like we were inconveniencing the owners/staff to pay for items or the museum. My intention is not to talk bad about the people running the place, I just don't understand why people who are traveling, and paying specifically to visit the shop aren't met with (at the very least) a fake smile or a welcome in?
Joe B — Google review
Wonderful place to visit and shop. The museum is very enticing. No overcharging for the items on sale. I wish everyone staying in the Santa Fe or Albuquerque area would go stop and visit here. It's worth the drive.
Thomas C — Google review
I rarely leave a bad review because I prefer to tout good businesses over criticizing not so good ones. But...we paid $30 for an 'authentic cerrillos turquoise' charm/dog tag. The owner said it was from their local mine after we told him our intention for its use. Cut to 1 week later: the blue paint peeled off and the round charm broke in half to reveal...concrete? I'm not sure. Doesn't matter. Fake. It's now shards of ridiculousness. The two stars are for the cute petting zoo. Let's just hope the animals don't get treated like the tourists. Caveat emptor!
Jana M — Google review
I very much enjoy my visits here; Coco and I have become friends, (he's a bit of a camera hog though♡). I also enjoy talking to the owners. Coco and I in August 2017 and again in March 2019. I found so many unique things there. There's also a peaceful view near the petting area. If you visit, get a bag of feed to share with Coco and his friends. I just returned from visiting Coco again so, added a new pic.

Nice trading post, tourist souvenirs & unique turquoise museum. Lots of handmade, locally sourced turquoise from the local “little Blue Bell mine”. Located in the Cerillos Mining District, 25 miles south of Santa Fe, NM. Follow the signs in the small village once you turn off the main highway. Quirky & unique items with nicely made local turquoise jewelry.

Nestled at the base of the majestic Sandia Mountains, Elena Gallegos Open Space is a stunning 640-acre natural retreat that beckons outdoor enthusiasts. This park features an extensive network of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails that cater to all skill levels, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the breathtaking scenery. Beautiful claret layered mountains holding cacti, brush, and trees. Hiking here is a perfect way to spend an afternoon--beautiful sunset views looking west towards Albuquerque. The trail is fairly level for a good while. There is plenty of space and eventual rising elevation if you'd like a more physically intense hike.

My favorite place for local mountain biking. Many trail combinations for mountain biking and hiking. It never gets old and there is terrain for all levels. Open space staff was friendly and attentive when I purchased a season parking pass for $30.00. There's plenty of parking available. Summer hours are from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. It is common to see wildlife including deer, rabbits, roadrunners, birds of prey, and snakes. You may see an occasional bobcat, if you keep your eyes open. There is also picnic areas there with tables and shade structures. You could rent areas for large parties if you desire.

One of my favorite places to hike in Albuquerque. Lots of trails and options for hiking and lots of picnic tables. The pit toilets are usually very well taken care of. It is a really beautiful area. If it's a pretty day on the weekend, better get there early though, as the parking tends to fill up rather quickly. They recently have moved from paying at the entrance to paying with card at the trailhead. I have a pass, and not quite sure what the message on the machine meant (see picture), but I put it in my window as usual. I guess. From now on, I will not be buying the annual pass and just paid at the trailhead.

Elena Gallegos open space is a park in northeast Albuquerque. We visited this park to go on the short hike and visit the pond where Domingo de Baca would water his sheep. The park was not crowded but was excellently maintained with walkways, nature signs, pavilions, and restrooms. There is a $2 fee for a day pass.

Excellent area to take a break from the city. There is plenty of parking and picnic areas. The level of adventure you choose here is up to you. Some trails are moderate and others as they reach toward Sandia Peak become very steep, very quick. The views of the mountain and then the city are great!

Trails are waiting for you to explore them. Easy trails to walk and feel like you get your heart going. You can ride your bicycle when pedestrians aren’t on the train. We stopped to say “we love you” to an old friend who left us to soon on her memorial bench. Take a hike, get lost, just go.

From SW Explorers League, an advanced outdoor group. This park competes with the Bosque area as two of the most unique public access areas in the West, within a city. Try both of you love the outdoors and visit ABQ. In EGOS, surrounded by the granite pinnacles of the Sandia Front, you can choose from multiple rambles in nearly level high desert, or tackle the Pino trail to the crest low point, and the D Baca trail which ends in a steep climb to the 1955 TWA crash Site. Both afford complete tours of all the varied montane habitats the Sandias can offer. Take a picnic to enjoy in the well kept ramadas with nice restrooms nearby too.

Sandia Crest House Gift Shop is located in the Sandia Mountains and offers access to the famous La Luz Trail, known for its challenging 7.5-mile hike through diverse landscapes. While the gift shop may be closed, visitors can still enjoy stunning views and access trails leading to the tram and restaurant. The drive up the mountain is picturesque with pullouts and trailheads along the way. The Crest itself offers more attractions than just the gift shop, including encounters with friendly staff and wildlife like deer.
The Crest is actually a lot more interesting than the gift shop, but it is a pretty little place. The people that work there are all very kind, even got to see a deer on the way down. But since you asked about the gift shop here it is.

I do believe the gift shop is closed but it’s well worth the drive up for the views. If you look close on the way up you might even spot a few Mule Deer.

As it says...it is closed. Toilets open, but they are disgusting. They is no running water to wash hands and the commodes are just the outhouse version. All the land surrounding the "temporarily closed" building is overgrown. The park service still wants $5 to park and see the views. So sad it was in a dilapidated state.

Completely closed and locked up, nothing is open in the cafe or gift shop. For years it was the cutest little spot at the top of the mountain if you didn’t want the busy aspect of the Tram. Sadly this has been closed for years and it shows. The grounds are also lacking and much is falling apart.

Beautiful drive up the mountain. Nice shop too! We enjoyed seeing all of Albuquerque. Nice and clean, with trails for some walking at the top.

Great view for lunch! Pricey of course and the food took a while, but it sure did taste good!

Little cloudy of a day but it was neat to see the clouds roll in and out at the crest. Really great views. Will definitely be back.

Cute little gift shop and snack bar. Big comfy couches to sit and enjoy the view. Local art plus typical souvenirs. A nice place to catch your breath after a long hike along the rim.

The Sandia Peak Tramway, located in the Sandia Foothills on the eastern edge of Albuquerque, is a must-visit attraction offering a 2.7-mile aerial tram ride with stunning views of the city and mountains. As North America's longest aerial tram, it provides an exhilarating experience as it ascends to the peak of the magnificent Sandia Mountains.
My adult son and I went here when I visited nearby and it was THE best!! The tram runs people up and down to the top of the mountain every 15-20min up until around 6:30pm I believe. The ride up didn't take long at all and there was an employee riding up, giving the history of the area and the tram itself. The views were absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous! Once at the top, you can hike around at your own discretion. There's a beautiful ski lift around the back for the wintertime. There are also several trails. We did some light walking due to bear alert signs. There's a restaurant at the top as well. It's a bit on the pricey side. We were fortunate enough to catch two guys who were hang gliding at the very top of the peak! It was such an amazing experience! There's also a cute little gift shop at the base of the mountain.

a bit on the pricey side, but absolutely worth it. We went on a partially cloudy afternoon, and the shifting light made the scenery even more dramatic, with layers of mountains, sky, and city unfolding beneath us. The ride itself is smooth and scenic, and once at the top, the short trail along the ridge to the cabin was breathtaking — one of the highlights of the visit. Do keep in mind that temperatures can drop quickly at dusk, even in the middle of summer, so bring an extra layer if you plan to linger for sunset.

Beautiful! Lift operators were knowledgeable and friendly. All the staff were very helpful. We only managed a hike up to the Kiwanis cabin due to time constraints but it was beautiful. I would recommend bringing something a little more sturdier than running shoes to hike in, a water bottle and be prepared for altitude. My wife experienced a little bit of sickness. Her first time experiencing it. Other than that I highly recommend this tour.

The tram ride takes about fifteen minutes and the views along the way are incredible, especially the deep canyons below. Our tram guide was entertaining and shared a lot of interesting facts during the ride. At the top the altitude is around 10250ft and it is an amazing place to watch the sunset and see the entire city light up afterward. It does get very cold once the sun goes down. We visited on a Saturday evening and the wait for the return tram was around forty minutes since many people leave right after sunset. Overall the experience was worth the price and made for a memorable evening.

Must have tickets in advance. Arrive 2 hours early. If possible have 1 member of your party wait in line and others walk around. Bring layers, it is cold at night. Packed in to the tram 🚊, hard to see out. On the way down folks were nice and let the kids be by the window. Need a reservation for the restaurant. Go during the day so you can hike. We went up when it was light, then down after sunset. If you looked hard, saw lights in the distance from the balloon fesita glow.

Hiked up La Luz trail and decided to get the tram down. Was pleasantly surprised that it was very close by the end of the trail and easily visible. I was almost out of battery on my phone without internet service and was pointed to the password to purchase the ticket on their website. I was afraid my phone was going to die to reached out to another employee (very nice lady) that told oh no worries we can do it right here in the booth! That was nice of her I was not told that there was any other option and was getting frustrated. Lost the tram bcs of it. The next one took about 13 minutes. Nice little ride down. At the gift shop I also had a great experience and was allowed to charge my phone :)

Amazing experience! Highly recommend taking this tram 🚋 for stunning views! ⛰️ 🤩 ☁️ We had the earliest reservation and checked in at 8:45am. We were the first group to go up around 9:17am. Window🪟 view was great for photos and videos. 📸 🎥
