Title: Great Stay – Exceeded Expectations! Review: I recently stayed at Zia Park Casino Hotel and I honestly had a wonderful experience. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful, and I really enjoyed the resort had to offer. I know every place has its ups and downs, but I personally had a great time—especially at the casino. They do need to fix the issues with the games. I had several machines that would read my card or take my money. Other than that had a great time. Looking forward to returning in the future!
Amy L — Google review
I arrived excited, feeling ready to gamble, drink and hell even get a room. The night was young and so am I. Parking was decent even though it was packed. Guys who checked my ID had the same Birthday as me! He was cool . Me and my bestie strolled through the casino first to peep the scene. I get halfway through the place and I decided I’m hungry and we can return to gamble. I didn’t realize there was a steakhouse until it was almost 10pm which is when they close. If I had seen the steakhouse, I probably would’ve went there first and maybe the bar after. But henceforth, 2 beautiful women sit at a bar and get passed over for service 3 times. Allow me to elaborate. The team behind the bar catered to regulars and not all customers. It’s unfortunate because as a former server, I’m an incredible tipper. I even asked the guy next to me to verify that my friend and I were so blatantly ignored. I was just damn thirsty and asked for a water upon arrival. Nearly 30 minutes later. I got that water. I put in an order for some cheesy Sticks, a round of drinks and water. The bread took a while, but was really DELICIOUS . Had pesto on. It came with ranch and I nearly finished the thing by myself. I wish to think the chef in the back with the brick oven making the magic happen. The manager stopped by and chatted with me and my friend for a bit. She didn’t care about our experience but wanted to talk. She could’ve had jumped behind the bar to help out, but whatever. It wasn’t the vibe so I hung around a little bit longer and left before midnight. I was up for anything, but maybe next time Zia Park.

I had a blast. My best friend and I made a day trip just to relax. The Casino is laid back, so I received much needed relaxation by leaving my stress at home. Oh, the best part? I came home with a nice pocket full of cash.
Terry W — Google review
This casino may be small but it has a great atmosphere The place is comfortable, and well taken care of. The machines are fun to play and the dealers are super nice and helpful. Good spot for a fun laid back night out
Yaki H — Google review
Hotel: The beds and pillows were not comfortable. AC in the room barely worked. The breakfast is worse than any hotel we have stayed at. No hot items served at all. Once we signed up for the rewards program, staff refused to add the hotel stay to our account. Stating you must book it through the rewards app for any credit. Recommend saving your money for the casino and staying at any other hotel down the road. There was a super friendly staff member cleaning the lobby on our way out, seriously the only friendly encounter in the hotel area! She was great! Casino: No alcohol allowed in the casino, have to stay in their bar with drinks. AC not working toward the back of the casino so it was really hot in some areas. Staff was very friendly and helpful through out.
Rachel F — Google review
The past couple of times within 6 months has been horrible. The a/c in the casino was not working properly at both visits 1 month apart. I asked an employee why it was so hot and was told the management was waiting on bids. The self serve soda fountain was out of order. And the other 2 soda fountains were out of ice. It was so hot and smoky in the casino that I just went to my room. The room smelled of raw sewage. The bathtub had hair in it and the floor was sticky. I will not be back until the issues at this casino are fixed. It has to be the worst casino and hotel in the area.
Denise W — Google review
This was a disappointing experience...if I could do negative stars I would. If you do not live in Hobbs and are a regular to the establishment get ready to be treated like you do NOT belong there. I will start by saying the Hotel staff were AMAZING! They were very accommodating and welcoming. However the Casino/Bar side was very UNWELCOMING...RUDE and basically made it an experience from HELL. They lost hundreds of dollars from us over $15...they were very harassing and made me feel so uncomfortable. I was in tears...discrimination doesn't even do justice to how we were treated. So BEWARE if you are an out of towner!!!! This will not be my only complaint...but it will be a way to warn others.
Kori C — Google review
My sister and myself was at the Casino today and in our 71 and 73 years we have never been treated so rudely and discriminated against than today we have been going to Zia Park Casino since it's opening. We were playing slots side by side my sister had to go to the restroom and wanted me to save her machine while she went to the restroom I decided to put 100.00 in the machine to be sure she could continue playing when she returned 10 or 15 minutes later a casino staff member tapped me and informed me I could not do that so I called her to see how much longer she would take she said she was on her way back, unbeknownst to me someone else was wanting her machine because we were hitting in both machines. I was told later I could have turned the chair down and save it like so me people have done just not played it, we were swarmed by 5 or 6 staff keep in mind this is 2 elderly ladies, We were told after much talking and a review of the video we had to cash out because I was playing 2 machines and we were to leave the Casino and were not welcomed back. Said we were banned from the property. We are pretty sure the staff knew the lady wanting our machines.

Tia Juana's Mexican Grille & Cantina

$$$$affordable
Mexican restaurant
Nightlife
Bars & Clubs
We are in town with our belgian malinois. The owner sat us at a table outside and even gave our dog some water. The food and service were excellent. My husband and I both had the Tia Juana's steak with Chipotle sauce and calbacitas. All cooked perfectly. Would definitely come back the next time we are in town.

SLOW...SLOW...SLOW.. Wasn't a very busy night when we came here. Food took a little bit to get, didn't get our drinks till AFTER we got our food. Ordered beer and margaritas, ended up canceling the margaritas because we finished our food and no longer wanted to wait to get them. I cannot understand why the food didn't take long but drinks are difficult to get.. Food was good, excellent carnitas and charro beans. Beer was not cold, wish I knew what their margarita tasted like. I won't be back....what a shame, go next door to Habenero.
Mr. L — Google review
Food is good just can’t keep good help always have to wait on tables even when half empty
Chuck C — Google review
This was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. Even though the restaurant wasn’t very busy, we waited quite a while just to be seated. We figured they might be short-staffed and tried to be understanding, but things didn’t get any better from there. When our food came out, we were told they had run out of silverware—which felt strange and a bit unsettling. Our food was cold. We let them know, and they took it back, but it was returned still cold. At that point, we just sent it back for good and didn’t want it. This place has clearly gone downhill. Poor service, poorly managed, and completely disappointing. We won’t be back—and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Kendra G — Google review
The manager-Chase, is a condescending manager. He wouldn’t help us and claims that he packed our food but didn’t feel that it was ice cold or half filled. He also didn’t check to make sure it was all cooked correctly. Never in my many years of ordering did I have this bad of an experience with this restaurant or with managers. Chase was real quick to blame the delivery driver from delivery.com. But no it was not their fault, it was his. What a horrible manager.
Mirella E — Google review
This was our first time eating here and sadly it was our last. We had came in around noon. The restaurant was empty that should have been a red flag right away. My fiancé had gotten the "Red cheese enchiladas". I had the "Juanas enchilada" plate. My fiancé's daughter had the Fish tacos. My fiance said the enchilada he got were good. Nothing fancy nothing bad. One of my enchiladas, the chicken was not good, I had one bite it had a rancid taste, I left it on the plate. I should have gone with cheese like my fiancé. The service was good very attentive waitresses. But the food needs a big upgrade, I'm sure the only thing here that's a deal are the drinks.
Nora M — Google review
Food had very little flavor, most of it tasted like it came out of a can. My husband ordered a burger and had no condiments on it the burger was well done but was extremely dry. I know it claims to be a Mexican grill but has no authentic flavor.
Yesenia E — Google review
Awesome service, and amazing food. Server was on point, and kept the drinks fresh. Food was cooked correctly. Served hot, and delicious. Update: 6 Aug, 2022. One star! Went in and waited approximately 10 minutes to be seated (party of 5). Once seated, no silverware on the table or brought by the server. Service was slow on the drinks as well. Food portions seemed small, from the last time we'd eaten there. Food was warm and acceptable, except for the order of jalapenos toreados (roasted jalapenos). They were 2 small jalapenos that were roasted into oblivion. We had asked for refills on the chips, never got them. We asked for a cup of guacamole. They were out. All in all... I was disappointed this time around with the quality of service and quantity of food.

Cool museum in the thriving city of Hobbs. Tons of local history both pre Spanish invasion to full-on Spanish takeover of the indigenous population. Vast areas are dedicated to chocolate.. Lots of chocolate.. They even have samples at the front desk! The pharmacy desk and piano area had a strange energy to it.. like someone is watching you. Other than that, it was a clean energy throughout the exhibits. We really enjoyed walking around and reading the history... Prices are reasonable. Military is FREE!! If you lost your shirt @ the Casino? Drop by and check this museum out.. Plotted..Scouts Out...

Very spacious and well kept facility, the staff is friendly and the place is so warm and welcoming. We went to the family fun event they held for kids. Christmas hand made crafts and free movie was so much fun and entertaining! They have activities loved to until Christmas which is really amazing and with looking forward to!

Interesting exhibits that change quarterly. They are great for the kids because many items are hands-on for them to help them learn. Their gifts are quality products that are reasonably priced. Landscaping and bronzed animals are great. The East wall has been tastefully done to honor the people of our area. I also like the interactive cowboy. Great way to engage everyone.

What a great place to come to bring your children, there are a lot of things to do here. We love the dinosaur 🦕 🦖 exhibit that is located on the main floor, the bottom floor has the teeth, rocks and some dinosaurs, not to mention the aquarium. We just love the aquarium exhibit, there are many fish 🐠 to look at. My son just enjoyed the train set that is located on the upper third floor, that train station has a lot of buildings. If you are looking to take your children somewhere fun to play, I recommend coming here.

I had a great time, its a awesome and fun place to take the family and if your looking to take a friend. The price to get in is great and the atmosphere is nice. Also do they have a dome theater where you can watch cave adventures really epic and fun.

We had so much fun especially at critter fest! We watched a movie, pet some cows and elephants then explored the rest of the spectrum! My little sister even got to hold a baby lemur! 10/10

We went on a Wednesday while passing through Lubbock. We took our three year olds & they really enjoyed themselves. For one adult & one 3 year old it was $18. Definitely a lot to do, can be overwhelming for some kids. Our girls loved watching all the fish.
Shevon H — Google review
If you have younger kids (10 or under) I’m sure it’s fun for them. I took my daughter that is 13 and she was so excited to go back after going many years ago…. but it was really disappointing compared to when we went around 2019. There were a lot of items that weren’t working at all or “kind of” working. If you have younger kids and you’re already in the area, it’s not prohibitively expensive so it’s probably worth going. But if you’re spending a couple of hours to drive there…. I definitely wouldn’t recommend doing that. Also, I’m not even a germaphobe in the slightest but everything you touch there is SO sticky and I would have expected more hand sanitizer spots around the building. I only saw one for the hour and a half we were there.

Llano Estacado Winery, Inc. stands out as Texas' largest and most celebrated premium winemaker, nestled in the heart of Lubbock. This working winery offers complimentary tours that provide an insightful glimpse into the fascinating world of High Plains wines. Visitors can explore the impressive facility filled with wooden aging casks and a bustling warehouse stocked with wine bottles ready for distribution.
My husband and I went by recommendation of a colleague and loved this place! The employee that poured our wine was so kind, and even took photos for us to commemorate our 4th anniversary! Beautiful place- especially at sunset! Highly recommend!
Brandi R — Google review
I highly recommend the tour and tasting. Matt was very knowledgeable and an awesome guide. Learned a lot about the wine making process. The tour group is limited to 14 people, so be sure to purchase your tickets early. The small size allowed for questions and in-depth discussion. The winery produces a variety of wines for any palate. Grace assisted us in the tasting room and helped with our order. We ended up purchasing a case.

We put on a wine run here and it was amazing!! Kaycee and her team were so great to work with! The vineyard was beautiful and finally the wine 🍷 was amazing!! Highly recommend checking this place out if you’re in the area. Plenty of outdoor seating to relax and enjoy the a drink or two! 😀

What happened to the old LLANO BLUSH??? The new Sweet Blush does not even come close. And it isn't just the labeling that's changed. I used to be able to put the old Blush out in tubs, and it would be gone by evening's end. Now nobody touches it. Find me some cases of the old Blush and I will give y'all 5 stars!!

We came on Saturday and had a pleasant experience. Our host was Dawson he was super awesome & knowledgable about the wines and wine making. We were in Lubbock for only a few days touring the city, we will definitely be back whenever we come into town.

I just HAD to visit Llano wines because back in San Antonio I see them everywhere. I enjoyed a flight of mixed Llano wines. They were 4 stars. The host was more concerned about his shift ending soon, and didn't impart as much knowledge as I was hoping. He never gave his name.

Nestled in Lubbock, the National Ranching Heritage Center is a captivating museum dedicated to American ranching and frontier life. This outdoor historical park showcases nearly fifty authentic structures that chronicle the evolution of ranching from the 1780s to the 1950s. Visitors can explore everything from charming homesteads to a vintage blacksmith shop, all while learning about the region's rich agricultural history.
This is a great place to spend an afternoon. So much to see & so much to learn- both inside and outside. My husband, 3 kids (13, 10 & 10) and I all enjoyed it! We went on a very windy day, so most of the outside buildings were closed up for protection from the elements, but still lots to see. We will definitely be back on a day it isn’t windy so we can check out the insides of the out buildings.
Alicia A — Google review
This is a phenomenal place to visit! Such great history about ranching. Excellent trail to walk around and view all the different types of housing. Very well kept up. Remember to bring water & a hat with you! No fees to visit but definitely leave a donation 😀

This is one of my family’s favorite places to go in Lubbock. So interesting to see how people used to live back in the day. And see all of the clever ways that they use technology of their day to make home on the plain. Every Christmas time they hire actors to come and celebrate Christmas in the old buildings as it would’ve been celebrated back in the day. They decorate the houses and the cabins up as well with candles and other decorations. It is a very special feeling to go and see
Jordan C — Google review
Excellent place to play for kids and to learn with adults. It has a Hank the cow dog theme for one of the sections that helps with drawing the kids in. There are even more buildings and exhibits that will have us coming back for more. It is free!

This place is a hidden gem. Wish we would have visited earlier. The guided tour through the old houses and then the area where the kids can play were phenomenal. And, it’s all free. Our grands loved it. We will go back.

Been 35+ years since last visit. Great they added significantly to the collection. Period historical buildings displayed in a town setting. The sounds emanating from areas is a nice touch. Good for children. And of course the price is right...free. They do accept donations.

Outstanding, exceptional and over the top customer service from the staff. My husband has mobility issues and their “tram” was not scheduled to run as we missed it. Staff asked a maintenance gentleman to take us around and he should lead tours! Opened up homes/buildings for us and gave us the 5 star treatment. This museum is amazing and marked the highlight of our time in Lubbock. This one is a must see!

Buddy Holly Statue

Sculpture
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled just a short distance from downtown Lubbock, the Buddy Holly Statue stands as a tribute to one of rock-n-roll's pioneers. This life-sized bronze sculpture was unveiled in 1990 on the Texas Tech University campus, where Holly once studied before his tragic passing at just twenty-two. The statue is beautifully mounted on a granite pedestal adorned with some of his iconic lyrics, making it a must-see for fans and visitors alike.
This is a very respectful and lovingly placed statue with the west Texas music Hall of Fame in the background… I think Buddy would’ve been proud.

Interesting city owned museum devoted to Buddy Holly's short but fabulous history. Lots of artifacts including a blues and juke joint room that's worth admission alone. Not very crowded

An amazing experience. Learned more than I ever knew. The guided tour through the Allison house…our Guide, sorry, her name escapes me. She grew up on the Bronx. Thank you for a great experience.

It was closed when we got there but it was really cool seeing his childhood home and reading the history plaques outside the building. Be sure to check out the wall of fame across the street. It's list famous people born inLubbock

For a university museum, it has a lovely design and a good atmosphere. The newly added fossils brought new life to the space. My favorite part was the section about Lubbock’s history, especially the wooden dolls. They were fascinating.

The Buddy Holly Center is a must-see cultural spot in Lubbock! It's important to distinguish between the original Buddy Holly Center(a museum in the Depot Entertainment District) and the new Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences(a major live event venue). A fascinating and well-curated museum that is an absolute must-visit for any music fan to learn about Buddy Holly's short, but world-changing, career and his massive influence on rock and roll history! The Buddy Holly Center is an essential stop in Lubbock. The exhibits are incredibly interesting, featuring genuine artifacts like his iconic glasses and guitars. Don't forget to check out the J.J. Golding house next door and the Buddy Holly statue across the street—it's a perfect blend of music history and local heritage." A highly enjoyable and educational stop in the Depot District! The museum is housed in a nicely refurbished building and offers a captivating look at Buddy Holly's life, complete with memorabilia and a clear timeline of his influence. It's a great experience that honors a Lubbock legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This remarkable museum boasts an impressive collection of over 170 meticulously restored windmills, making it the largest of its kind globally. Visitors can explore both indoor and outdoor exhibits, immersing themselves in the fascinating history and technology behind these iconic structures.
Great place by vibe and collections. Models of trains, towns, miniature homes, windmills of all kinds and different countries. I learned very interesting things about about windmills I never thought about. Lovely, recommended

We actually learned so much here and would come again (especially with admission being so cheap!)! My favorite was all of the trains, especially the miniature homes and details. It was a fun stop for my family!

The American Windmill Museum was wonderful and much better than we anticipated... We spent considerable time walking around looking at their different exhibits... and the staff was excellent...while they had a great about windmill exhibit...they also had a model train exhibit... It was great fun... there is a very nice gift shop too...we will definitely visit again...
Rhonda B — Google review
There are lots of neat things to see, and a very large collection, it will take a few hours to see and appreciate all the displays with information. The model train displays are massive with well over a thousand cars and trains with intricate models and displays.

This is not a normal museum! It's really surprising. Not only are there a ton of windmills outside, but there are so many inside the two giant facilities. It's really quite breathtaking. There's also a massive section of miniature dollhouses and scenes and an even bigger section with a fully functioning model train exhibit. The conductor was super friendly, too. There's also one of the biggest murals I've ever seen in my life! It's definitely worth the money and if you have kids, you have to take them. There's so much to look at.

Prairie Dog Town, located within Mackenzie Park in Lubbock, Texas, has been a popular attraction since 1935. It offers visitors the chance to observe prairie dogs in their natural habitat and learn about these fascinating creatures through interpretive signage. The town is not only a haven for animal lovers but also serves as an educational and conservation site. Visitors can enjoy spending time watching the prairie dogs go about their daily activities and even feed them with carrots.
Had a great time visiting the prairie dogs. My family and I came prepared with carrots and greens and they all loved it. They won't let you come to close but close enough to get some decent photos.
Paul G — Google review
This was a fun random stop! I highly recommend it. Bring carrots or something healthy to feed to these cute little critters. They’re not tame by any means but it’s super fun to listen to them and watch them eat. Pristine dogs are not confined to the little area that was established for them and instead have spread out and taken over the entire park and lots of the surrounding neighborhoods. Definitely worth a stop off if you’re going through Lubbock.

I love prairie dogs so much! They're such complex creatures who are such an important piece in the ecosystem puzzle. These guys used to be very popular pets in the late 1990s. Since they're wild animals and require a ton of work and knowledge, I ended up being a rescue contact in Houston. So if you come out here to the park, here are some tips! - bring a peace offering! Carrots, green leaf lettuce, fresh yellow corn on the cob (husks can stay on), and Timothy or alfalfa hay like you can get at Petsmart are all good choices. - In Texas, their mating season / torpor begins around Halloween and lasts until Valentine's day or so. During that time, they're less active above ground and will likely be a little grumpy! - If you hear them chattering their teeth and/or flaring out their tail like a bottle brush, give them space, because they're irritated. Their bites are strong enough to go through your fingernail and hit bone on both sides. Not likely, but possible. - Babies are born late March, early April, so time your visit for maximum cuteness - Prairie dogs are ecosystem engineers. They depend on other species as others depend on them. See if you can spot any other species near the mounds, like the burrowing owls who live here full time as well. - Since they're highly communicative with each other, sometimes you can "hack the system" and get a whole coterie to respond to you. Pretend to cough or sneeze. If you're lucky, you'll see them jump up, front legs thrown up in the air, and they'll let out a big "yah-HOOOO" in unison! This might not occur as often at this park just because of the sheer volume of visitors. - Don't forget your camera!

We have been talking about going to the Texas Air Museum for years and finally made it out there this past weekend. I am always impressed with how a group of volunteers come together and present such a well done exhibit. There are some very cool and rare air craft and other vehicles to see and most you can get up close and personal. The particular day that we visited there were volunteers working on the grass and yard in the front as well as others providing tours and working on projects. I appreciate places such as the Texas Air Museum to see history in person. Go check it out and support these guys!

One of its main attractions is a meticulously restored WACO CG-4A glider suspended from the ceiling, offering visitors a glimpse into the daring missions these pilots undertook.

I have read quite a bit of WW 2 history, and watched countless WW 2 documentaries, but I didn't know about the glider pilots who braved incredible odds to land troops and materials behind enemy lines using "stealth" technology. This museum pays homage to the unsung heroes of the war, the glider pilot. The museum has quality displays and is packed with lots of information about the glider aspect of the war. Definitely worth a visit if you are visiting Lubbock and are passionate about WW 2 history.

The Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge Admin Building And Visitor Contact Station is a serene and educational spot in the Panhandle, just a short drive from downtown Canyon. Visitors can enjoy a short nature walk and an 11-mile driving loop while learning about the preserve's management and human impact on the land. The refuge is home to diverse wildlife, including songbirds, deer, coyotes, and various bird species. It offers a peaceful retreat for nature enthusiasts seeking solitude amidst rapidly disappearing landscapes.
This was a wonderful place to stop and camp for a few days. There are hiking trails, an auto tour, and a camping area that has spacious campsites, picnic tables, pit toilets, and a dumpster. There aren't many animals .. coyotes can be heard at night and a lot of birds, but it is a very peaceful, well maintained refuge with a very friendly staff. The cost is only $2 per night to camp. It's absolutely worth it !

So glad we visited. Only $2 per car! It was a beautiful sunny day in early March. Auto tour was nice, liked the signs along the way talking about the area. We enjoyed the Observation Deck, the Cottonwood Canyon Birding trail, and the Observation Deck/Platform. The vault toilet by the picnic area was open. It was cold enough that the hornets in the bathroom were dopey. I could see how they could be a problem as mentioned in other reviews. *NOTE-The one-way road spikes at the exit are damaged so we backed up and drove out the entrance.

Nice easy trails in the refuge. We were hoping to see water in the old lake bed. Unfortunately, it was extremely dry and so very few birds around, except for a red tailed hawk, some ravens, and two groups of turkeys. It was nice to see a bobcat about 20 feet up in a tree on a hunt for lunch.

Wonderful bit of solitude in the Panhandle. It's well worth the trip if you have time are visiting Palo Duro Canyon. It's about 15 minute drive from downtown Canyon and they have a short nature walk, and an 11 mile driving loop. There is some explanation of what they do on the preserve to manage it and you get a very good idea how human's have greatly impacted the surrounding land. There were many songbirds when we were there even on a bad weather day. Go, pay the $2 entry fee, and enjoy a landscape that is rapibly disappearing.

A definite destination to visit or a place to stop on your trek in between going place to place. Rich in beauty, as it is rich in the history of ourselves. A friendly local told us to have a view while we are on our way home, it didn’t disappoint! Wish we had longer to stay Historical Marker Reads: “Before this area was covered by the Mackenzie Reservoir, evidence of human occupancy was found at 77 archeological sites. The earliest artifacts date back 10,000 years to a bison kill. Prehistoric occupancy is indicated by the burial sites, shallow hearths and stone tools. Gun flints, glass beads and metal objects confirm 18th century European contact. By 1874 Col. Ranald Mackenzie’s 4th Calvary had driven the Indians from the Tule Canyon area which had been lush grazing ground for buffalo and antelope.”

Tex Randall Statue

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is a neat roadside attraction to spend a few minutes at. Per Wikipedia: The statue was constructed in 1959 by local shop teacher Harry Wheeler to advertise for a western wear store directly next to it. It originally featured a bandanna, a western-style shirt and real denim jeans.[1] When Highway 60 was rerouted through an underpass, traffic to the store declined and it closed. The statue gradually fell into disrepair as high winds shredded the jeans, a truck crashed into the left boot, and the cigarette was shot from his hand.[2] In 1987, a campaign began to repair the statue, which resulted in a different appearance: the remains of the cigarette were replaced with a spur and new paint gave him different clothing and a moustache. Without further maintenance, the statue again fell into disrepair until 2013, when the Texas Department of Transportation constructed a park underneath and around the statue. A new campaign funded the restoration of the statue to more closely resemble its original appearance.[2] The restoration was completed in 2016.[3]

If you like quirky road side attractions, this place is worth a stop. The grounds are very nicely maintained and the restored cowboy looked great. We appreciated the attention to detail, like the dip-can shaped discoloration on his butt pocket. Amazing History Museum across many disciplines. Geology, art, paleontology, history, and interesting special collections of textiles, guns, cars and the history of oil exploration. This is a phenomenal find. We took a day to explore the exhibits to include dinosaurs, oil exploration and drilling, indigenous people, cattle ranchers, and cow boys. The auto and firearm exhibits were my favorite. Parking is behind the building with the entrance on 4th. If you'r disabled there is parking in this lot near the back door. Ignore the sign at the rear entrance to go around front. The door is open, and you can ask the security guard to walk through to the front ticket counter.

This was the place to go for families that enjoy learning. The interactive learning was the best part for my children. The art galleries were amazing and wonderful. The bone exhibit was quite spectacular. The best part is that it took two and a half hours to thoroughly see all that there was to see. It is definitely worth the money.

This was a very informative museum. There were several hands on type of exhibits for the little ones. Our daughter was able to sit in a side saddle and a regular saddle, open drawers to reveal artifacts on display, and an Adobe structure to crawl through. There was a nice historical video playing in the movie theatre. This was a nice way to spend an hour or two. Entrance fees were $3 for children, 10 for veterans, and 12 for adults. Also close to down town Canyon, restaurants, and bakeries.

The trail was stunning, with peaceful scenery that made the day feel even more special. We were lucky to have come on a cool day, which made the ride even more relaxing haha. The horses were clearly well cared for, as shown by their calm behavior. Thank you so much to Jesse and Kristin for such a lovely and memorable experience!! ❤️

By far the highlight of my trip! The whole experience was amazing! The owners were great! Kind, welcoming, wholesome people! Their kids, Cody Jo and Cash are incredible children! From riding around bareback, no bit, on a leopard Appaloosa wearing a hat, to pretending to be a ghost in the brush as we rode past, and handing out stickers, just silly and extremely respectful kids. Such a respectable family and business! They truly love and respect the land, and enjoy sharing it with others who see the beauty in it. The horses 10/10! Well loved and cared for. I got to ride Sissy. I was a bit nervous about riding in unfamiliar terrain, but I totally trusted her, and she probably would have gone down the whole trail on her own without me ever touching a reign. (With plenty of stops along the way, because Sissy is a little bit lazy) 😂 I will ABSOLUTELY be coming back to experience this again! The humans, the horses, and the land here have a way of reaching your soul. If you’re debating on if you should do this ride or not, do it! You won’t regret it!

We had so much fun! What a neat family and history. This family loves what they do and their kiddos, Kash and Kodi Jo, were a fun addition to the trail ride. Definitely a high light to our trip to Palo Duro canyon! We loved the stories Jesse told of each horse, and how they came to be there, and their personalities, as they were being assigned to their rider. Thank you, Kristin for being so kind thru out the whole booking process and in person! Your company is a true labor of love and it shows. I highly recommend them! Be sure to make your reservations in advance of your visit to the canyon!

This was a birthday surprise from my husband and in-laws. I have never been horse back riding and what an experience. Kristin and Jesse were such a blessing. They were so kind and they made us feel so comfortable. They talked to us as if we were old friends on the trail. They matched us perfectly with the horses. We had the pleasure of riding Forrest, Lilly, "Lazy" Sissy and Romeo. Beautiful well taken care of horses and property. The atmosphere was so calming and the horses were so gentle with each of us. Thank you Palo Duro Riding Stables for making it a memorable birthday trip. We definitely will be back!!!!!!

We rode with Palo Duro Riding Stables in early Oct. Couldn’t have asked for a more gorgeous day and fun experience! What a lovely family-run stable! Loved the heartfelt stories about the horses and their temperaments, the family stories in this canyon, the 3 dogs who ran the whole way beside the horses, their kids Kodi and Kash (6!) who rode along side and have clearly been doing this all their lives! Oh and the aoudad sheep! We will book again when we are in the area! Well worth it! Thanks Jesse and Kristen!

Ten stars! The whole family is welcoming, taking time to get to know each guest. The Horses are very well cared for and a pleasure to ride. The scenery was beautiful and it was special to learn this is a multi-generational ranch. Jesse and Kristen know their business and kiddos Kody and Kash are right there helping too. All are great riders and ensure each guest is having a great time. We will be back for the longer ride next time. Thanks for the hospitality! - Mickey & Malea-Colorado

If you’re making a trip to palo duro go here!!!! This place was amazing!!!! As soon as we got here we got a warm greeting from three cute doggos- and they rode the trail with us (as a dog lover immediately yes)! Not to mention you can get views here that you can’t get in the park, it was beautiful! The horse ride was so much fun and the highlight of my trip to palo duro. My husband and I had so much fun! The owners really take care of their horses and their land, and they shared a lot of cool history about themselves/their land/ the horses/ palo duro etc. they make you feel really safe and they’re so kind! I would definitely come back! Thank you Jesse, Kristin, Kash, and Kodi Jo!

Hands down the best experience I've ever had with traveling and horseback riding. The only thing I would've changed about my experience is being able to stay longer!! I did not want to leave!! I loved the horses, the story behind it all, the scenery and that it is family owned. It was breathtaking. It's clear that the horses are just as much part of the family there. KodiJo was living her best life helping out mom and dad with simply being part of the trail ride making sure nothing was missed. I was in awe of everything about this place. Kristin and Jessie are very good at what they do here. Thank you Kristin for getting back to me and making this possible. Thank you Jessie for placing me with Cisco that matched my personality to make it fun. Thank you KodiJo for being such a sweet young lady. Most of all, thank y'all for the hospitality. Y'all reminded me to slow down, take a breath of fresh air, take in God's beautiful creations, and that it takes a family to keep growing. I pray God continues to bless y'alls family and land. And the horses, of course! My heart needed that. I will be back when my compass is pointing to Texas!!

Palo Duro Canyon State Park spans an impressive 60 miles of ravine that boasts towering 800-ft cliffs. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including hiking the numerous trails and taking in the musical 'Texas' at the park's amphitheater. It is advisable to arrive early to beat the heat and bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and bug repellent as necessary.
Drove the Scenic Route. Amazing views, wonderful staff. We had a great time. Definitely highly recommend should you be in the area. Total time with stopping to see many views and lunch at the Trading Post, easily two to two and half hours. Highly recommend the Cheese Burgers and Fries.

We camped 3 nights at the Juniper Campground! The campsite, restrooms, camp hosts, and wildlife visitors were ALL absolutely delightful!! We did several nice hikes and enjoyed them all!! Instead of the Lighthouse Trail, we decided to make it a loop with Givens, Spicer and Lowry to the Lighthouse and Paseo del Rio! We were glad we did! The Lighthouse portion a of that loop was really the least scenic!! What a wonderful place to explore! Texas State Parks does a GREAT JOB!! Thank you!!
Susan D — Google review
We really enjoyed hiking! We did the CCC Trail and the Rock Garden both were absolutely gorgeous. The Rock Garden was very challenging but definitely had the wow factor! We had a really great time. The roadrunner was so cute such a perfect touch of nature in the park.
Alejandra D — Google review
Beautiful area. The biking loops were pedally and fun. There’s a bike rack on the lighthouse trail before the steep section. The campgrounds are nice, the one we popped into had water, flushing toilets and showers. We didn’t find out the overnight price. Lots of space on a Monday in November.

Absolutely beautiful state park in America’s second largest canyon. Well preserved and maintained, with a road that goes from the rim—and the visitors center—to the bottom, without too many hairpin turns. There’s even a Trading Post that sells food and drink in the canyon (including ice cream!). In terms of hikes, highly recommend Lighthouse Trail—2.8 miles in and 2.8 back—as well as the big cave at the end of the paved road. Super beautiful, mostly flat, and doable with kids.
Jon K — Google review
My family enjoyed visiting the canyon. The big cave was pretty cool to walk, too. Most of the trails were closed off though. The amphitheater had a show that was pretty neat. The gift shop has tons to choose from. There is plenty of wildlife to walking around

Lots of hiking trails, there were showers and bathrooms at multiple different camp sites. This place gets very hot in the summer. You need to pack at least a half gallon or more per a person. Always bring water for your dog.

Located south of Amarillo Texas, and quite a ways off the beaten path is Palo Duro Canyon State Park. This State Park can give many National Parks a run for the money. What an amazing place. Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in the United States and the park offers wonderful facilities facilities including a cliffside visitors center, gift shops, restaurant, amphitheater, campgrounds including a camp store, restroom and shower, facilities a scenic drive through the park with stunning views of the canyon and miles of hiking trails. We camped in the canyon and had an awesome stay. Palo Duro Canyon State Park was well worth the trip. A must see if you are in the Amarillo area.

Palo Duro Adventure Park offers an exciting zipline experience over the canyon, with options for both kids and adults. The staff is friendly and ensures safety at all times. Visitors can enjoy beautiful views and thrilling swaying bridges during the adventure. Additionally, the park's proximity to RV sites makes it convenient for visitors staying in the area.
We just stopped by for a quick visit on our way home to OK from CO. Had never seen Palo Duro before, but we were pleasantly surprised! Very beautiful landscape and lots of places to explore. We’d like to come back when it’s not 105° outside. Looked like a fun place to visit.

My wife and I did the canyon zipline with our four kids, ages 8, 6, 4, and 1. The older two went in tandem, and the littler ones went with one of us. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and they made sure we knew that safety was assured. They made sure we were all clipped into a safety line at all times! The views were beautiful, the zipline and swaying bridges exciting, and we enjoyed the ride in the wagon trailer too!

Staff is cool and friendly. RV sites are pretty spacious. The hookups are wide apart so bring a long water hose. Reasonable rates and great view. I didn't have time to zip line on my stay, but definitely recommend the camp to anyone visting the Palo Duro Canyon area.

This is one of those place, which are not very popular but it has a x-factor, and you will like it. I traveled from Dallas to Amarillo for this and Canyon. It was worth it. Zip lining was definitely awesome.

Ok, let me start by saying I would stay here again...however, below is a pros and cons list. Pros: Great location...couldn’t get any closer to the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon if you tried. Gas and Dollar General are an easy 10 minutes away. Clean bathrooms and shower Clean camping area Quiet and very relaxed atmosphere Water and electricity sites available You can reserve a spot online Cons: Not inside of Palo Duro Canyon so you have to pay and entrance fee each for each day you want to go. We have a big family so definitely check out getting a Texas State Parks yearly pass. Only 1 shower currently working...although a second is under construction. No fire pits...but they do allow you to make one if there is no burn ban. At the entry and near the restrooms it is very cluttered. They are under construction but even with that, there is siding and material strewn about...could definitely have a better look and feel with that. In short...if you can’t stay in the canyon, this is your next best spot and a good one at that. Hopefully they will finish construction soon and clean up and make this place a 5-Star stop!
Gregory K — Google review
We did not zip line but we camped here and it was very affordable (especially compared to camping in the canyon) and we got to have an amazing view of the sunrise over the canyon. Bathrooms are clean and convenient. Will definitely stay here again.
Stacy L — Google review
Pretty neat zipline over the canyon and really nice people. If you do the "chicken" option, the view is beautiful!
Anna D — Google review
For someone who has Ziplined in different locations, this one was by far the least safe. The staff was very friendly and did their best. I wore a helmet and got hit in the eye by a tied rope at the end of the line. As I'm soothing my eye, which thankfully did not get injured just watery, one of the staff members stated, "that's why we let you go first to adjust for the other persons." Extremely rude to tell a patron. $30 for one line of zipping. That was a huge disappointment. Arrive early for less lines and wait time. No reservations.

Palo Duro Creek Ranch offers a thrilling Jeep (Humvee) tour of the Palo Duro Canyon, providing an opportunity to explore the canyon's bottom and learn about its history. The tour guide, Case, is praised for his knowledge and care during the trip. Visitors recommend this exciting adventure for families who are ready to hold on tight and experience the roller coaster-like ride through the beautiful canyon. The sunset views from the canyon are highlighted as a must-see during this exhilarating excursion.
One of the best tours I've ever been on and hands down best one in the US!! Highly recommend the jeep tours with Palo Duro Creek Ranch!! The canyon views were stunning and the jeep ride felt like an adventure through Jurassic Park and Uncharted!! It was a real life roller coaster through the canyon and it gave us such a huge adrenaline rush! We did the 1 hour tour but will definitely do the 2 or 3 hour tour the next time we visit! KC was amazing tour guide and jeep driver! Very friendly and he was very knowledgeable about the history of the canyons and I loved learning about the history! Spectacular views! One of the most adventurous tours! You have to do this tour when you visit Palo Duro! Please book online in advance since the tours might book out quick.

Absolutely incredible experience! We went on the 3-hour Jeep tour of Palo Duro Canyon today and it was AMAZING! This is hands down the best way to truly experience the canyon. You’ll see areas and viewpoints that you simply can’t access any other way. The ride was fun and adventurous—exactly what you'd want in a place like this—and the guide was knowledgeable and fun. If you're visiting the canyon, don’t miss this—book it online right now. We loved every minute of it!

Highly recommend this jeep tour! Our driver/ tour guide Case was extremely knowledgeable regarding the history, landscape & wildlife of Palo Duro Canyon and his love for the canyon was evident. The tour takes you on trails (not roads!) through private property and includes incredible views not visible from the State Park. Beware that this is an extremely rough ride and the steep terrain is not for the weak of heart, as Case takes you on quite an adventure! He is extremely personable, witty and engages easily with guests. He offers a step ladder to help guests in and out of the back of the humvee and personally offers a helpful hand to assist guests when necessary. The only problem was that we only booked the 1hour tour. We will definitely return and book the 3hour tour next time! Thanks for an excellent experience, Case!

We had such a wonderful time hiking at Palo Duro Creek Ranch today! Case was so kind and helpful, and we enjoyed the views, flowers, and animals immensely! What a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing your beautiful ranch with visitors!

We booked the 3 hour jeep tour. It was incredible! I have a bad knee and am not as fit as I once was, so I couldn't hike the trails at the state park, but this tour took us over all the rugged terrain all the way to the bottom of the canyon and back up. Our driver, Case, was very knowledgeable, funny and a perfect gentleman. When we would stop at amazing view points, he always had a helping hand out for those of us that needed it. Just don't forget to bring your sunscreen and bug spray!

Case was an amazing jeep tour guide. He’s passionate about his land and the canyon, was happy to answer all of my many questions and doled out humor at every twist and turn. And those views!!! We only had time for the 1 hour tour but wish we had been able to take one of the longer ones! Definitely highly recommend!

A true Texas style tour! Case was very personable and knowledgeable. We off-road a lot and wasn’t sure on how much we would enjoy the tour…did not disappoint at all!!

Our family of 5 had a great time with Case on the 2 hour jeep tour. He was a wealth of knowledge and provide a true Texas experience. The ride is exciting and fun from the ranch all the way down to the bottom of the canyon with stop along the way to enjoy the views and take pictures. Highly recommend!

TEXAS Outdoor Musical

Theater production
Concerts & Shows
Set in a scenic canyon, this amphitheater features seasonal performances about the history of Texas.
We had a great BBQ dinner and enjoyed the show under the Texas sky. Dinner is served buffet style with a friendly team adding your selections to your plate. We recommend getting there early as the line grew quite long. We had great potato salad, Cole slaw and beans along with the star, brisket and sausage. Banana pudding rounded out the dinner. The stage is huge and the cast fills it with well choreographed song and dance numbers. The story recounts the struggles of the early Texans as the figured out how the Native Americans, farmers, ranchers and growing communities would interact. While photography is allowed before the show, photography and videography are strictly prohibited during the show. We enjoyed the opportunity to congratulate and thank the performers for both the show and the patriotic after show recognizing area veterans. Parking is well planned to make exiting the venue at the end of the night very easy.
Rebecca K — Google review
The performance was amazing, you’re not allowed to take pictures or videos. The pictures posted with this review were taken before the announcement. Kudos to all the performers for their talent and enduring the heat while singing and dancing for 2+ hours. All staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and more than willing to help find your seats. If possible, buy your tickets in advance at the box office to avoid all extra online fees. They have a few pricing options, but really there’s no bad seats in the amphitheater so go for the lower price option. They give military and first responder (and a few others) discounts. Also, wait for intermission for better priced popcorn. Lol

We didn’t stay for a show, but even just driving through, the Pioneer Amphitheatre blew us away. The setup is truly impressive—tucked right into the canyon walls with incredible natural acoustics and a dramatic backdrop. You can tell it would be an unforgettable place to watch a performance, especially with the red rock formations lit up at night. Definitely adding it to the list for our next visit!

Best show! Impressed by the stellar performances of the cast, and especially through the rain, thunder, lightning, slipping and falling, they all persevered. Thank you to the cast for sharing your gifts. Kudos to the crew also. Thanks to the staff fir keeping us safe. The BBQ dinner was amazing and a great part of the experience. Worth the time waiting through the storm and sitting in the rain in ponchos! Will definitely come back and recommend to friends!

Texas Musical- Palo Duro Canyon State Park was a really great production! We’ve thought about going to see it many times, but this was our first. The story was a little cheesy and hard to follow at times, however, that was all overshadowed by the gorgeous canyon backdrop, elaborate dance numbers, beautiful costumes, exciting special effects, talented live musicians, and the overall patriotic message! The set was really more than I expected. For seating, we were top row center and I really think it was great because the stage is pretty wide so this gave us a great view without straining to look at one side or the other. #theonlyplaceyoucanseeforeverandstillseenothingatall #onlyinTexas

Enjoyed a Tuesday night show last night while camping at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The musical was great, lots of dancing & interesting story. The backdrop pf the canyon was magnificent. The show was very patriotic, the water canyon light show & fire 🔥 plot line were all interesting. Would definitely recommend. There are concession stands & drinks bar outside amphitheater.

This is one of the most incredible and brilliantly created show with extremely talented people ever! Very Patriotic, history telling, inspiring and entertaining for people of all ages! Long drive to get there but so worth it so I'm coming back with more family and friends! Thank you to the production team and all performers for an amazing job and keeping this gem of a show going for years and years to come!

The performance of the cast and ensemble was seriously so stellar, felt on par if not better than plays of broadway like production. Such a cool atmosphere with the outdoor stage. I want to give a special shoutout to Brian helping guide the flow of traffic and pass out waters and also trying to help me find my parents when they were potentially lost on the CCC trail - he’s a real king.

I ABSOLUTELY loved my ride. I got to ride Rio and he is a very good sure footed old boy. 🩷 The trail along the canyon was beautiful and fun. Definitely a ride for anyone, I have taken many trails along the U.S. and I gotta say to put this one on the map. Melissa and Blair were so sweet, thorough, and a pleasure to meet. Absolutely unforgettable experience! Our 2-hour ride with Cowgirls and Cowboys in the West in Amarillo, Texas was hands down the highlight of our trip. The beauty of the Texas landscape, with its wide-open sky and the ride to the rim of the breathtaking Palo Duro Canyon, was something we’ll never forget. One of the most special moments was having our picture taken right on the canyon’s edge, an incredible keepsake that perfectly captured the magic of the day. What made the experience even more memorable were our amazing wranglers: Breeyn, Katilin, and Alison. They thoughtfully chose each guest a horse to match their experience as a rider. Their patience and encouragement were constant throughout the ride, and their passion for what they do really shone through. They shared fascinating stories and history of the area, and it was easy to see they genuinely cared about both the horses and the guests. It was also very evident the horses loved all three wranglers. ♥ This was more than just a horseback ride—it was an authentic and heartwarming western adventure. Can’t recommend it enough. We’ll absolutely be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
