Carlsbad Caverns National Park, situated in the Chihuahuan Desert of New Mexico, is a renowned destination featuring over 100 caves formed by sulfuric acid dissolving limestone. The park offers visitors a unique experience with its stunning canyons like the Walnut Canyon Desert Loop and a desert wetland known as Rattlesnake Springs. This expansive cave system is one of the largest in America and holds historical significance, with two districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Before going, I completed the mandatory registration online to ensure our date and time of arrival. Everyone must do this, and the sooner, the better. Our check-in time was from 1130-1230. The line moved swiftly, and since we are America the Beautiful cardholders, that also helped. Outside, it was 98-100 degrees, while inside, it was about 58. Thankfully, the temperature was cool enough to enjoy our visit without jackets. We wore hiking boots/shoes, which was great since we walked through some wet areas. We decided to walk down into the cavern, instead of the elevator, and took most of the longer routes while inside. There is a lot to see and places to sit and take breaks. We spent about three hours there, including time inside the gift shops. Overall, we had a wonderful time. I wasn't sure my seven-year-old would like it, but she did and wanted to go back inside. It is definitely somewhere I would enjoy going again.

Such a fantastic visit. Fresh off of our Texas Cave Tours this was an amazing adventure. So many cool features to see. We truly enjoyed the self guided tour as you can take your time and enjoy the sites. I encourage you to take the natural entrance down as this is part of the whole adventure...its a little steep, and chilly once in the Cavern but a very cool experience....the elevator back to the top is a must.
Austin_Texas_RC_Crawlers — Google review
I was amazed at the awesomeness of this self guided tour. I chose the elevator both ways to save time. Apparently I’d really does take about an hour to walk the mile down with grades reaching 20%. I speed walked through the actual caves in about 45 minutes, but rangers said on crowded days it can take 2 hours as the well maintained path is narrow. Must buy in advance. Lastly, I liked the shirts at the concession store in the cave more than those in the visitor center.

Underground marvels! Exploring the cavern system is always enjoyable for my spouse and me. During the Thanksgiving break last year, we had the chance to go to Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Walking the natural entrance trail is a unique experience to us. Different formations of speleothems include stalactites, stalagmites, columns, soda straws, draperies, helictites, and popcorn can be found along this trail and within the caverns. It also features the immense Big Room, a massive limestone chamber. We spent around 4 hours to explore this natural landmark. Our favorites are the Fairyland, popcorn covered stalagmite and Lions tail which is formed by stalactite and popcorn. Despite its steep grade this self-guided path via the natural entryway is a must-do activity to observe the complex geological structures. There are places to sit and take rest and also have emergency phone to connect with the ranger. Wearing hiking boots or shoes with good traction is recommended. We used the elevator to return back to the top. The park is well-managed and preserved. The park rangers are very helpful. The visitor center provides a lovely selection of souvenirs and is quite informative. Once our under-ground tour ended, we spent a few more hours to see the above-ground beauty of the Chihuahuan Desert landscape. We would probably return here for the bat flight viewing. I would advise making a trip to Carlsbad Caverns a top priority.
Debashri M — Google review
Visited today and the park is fully open and operating for visitors as of November 14. There was some confusion online about closures, but everything was running normally. We did the Big Room Trail and it took us about two hours to walk through. The rock formations were unbelievable and it truly felt like stepping into another world. A ranger at the entrance gave clear instructions before we started, which was helpful. We took the elevator back up at the end and it made the return very easy. A memorable experience and absolutely worth the visit
Ratnam R — Google review
One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Photos do not communicate the pure size of the cavern. However, some things to keep in mind or that I would have done differently: I brought a jacket, and it ended up just getting in the way as it wasn’t very cold. I went just after it rained, and it still wasn’t slippery, so shoes with traction are recommended, but not necessary. You could probably go down there with sandals and be fine. The rangers try to scare you into taking the elevator (probably not on purpose) but do not take the elevator. The walk down is probably cooler than the actual attraction at the bottom. Bring water, as you could be down there for a while and get thirsty. Only about a bottle per person is fine. At the end, I walked back up the path instead of taking the elevator, and it was definitely strenuous but really cool to see how far you climbed. Please be quiet and point your flashlights at the ground, people basically yelling and shining their lights in your eyes and at the rocks sucked. All in all, amazing place with millions of years of history. Will stop by again for sure.
Yeet C — Google review
One of the few national parks I highly recommend! Try to go off season. We had sections all to our selves. Skip the elevator, the walk up and down is amazing.
Moby R — Google review
Me the wife and our two children stopped by here yesterday and today since we all enjoyed the first visit since we are going to Roswell for the weekend and the family wanted to see the Caverns. It is very historical and very cool. Our autistic son really enjoyed it with all of the different views and cave forms.

Rattlesnake Springs Picnic Area is a picturesque oasis nestled in Carlsbad Caverns National Park. It offers a clean and well-maintained picnic area with plenty of shaded tables, surrounded by old cottonwood trees that provide a cool and breezy atmosphere compared to the desert surroundings. Visitors can also explore the historic spring, walk to the pond about half a mile down the road, or observe fish swimming around in the spring water.
Very pretty place in the desert. Clean bathroom and grounds. Thank you to the visitors and staff for helping with the grounds staying so clean. It was the perfect spot for lunch after the caverns. Clean vault bathrooms with hand sanitizer. Lots of tables in the shade. Even had a working water fountain of cold delicious water. We didn't do the walk to the pond which is about half a mile down the road to the west. Only a few mins of the main road and paved all but around the grounds. There is water way dip that if in a bad storm you would not want to cross.
Justin C — Google review
This was a quiet and shaded location for lunch! While we were hear saw some beautiful birds. There was a short walk down a dirt road that lead to the springs. The springs were absolutely gorgeous! Would absolutely stop by again!
Rachael M — Google review
Beautiful and historic spot for a picnic. Tons of picnic tables surrounded by giant old cottonwood trees. Cool and breezy compared to the surrounding desert. Very nice vault toilets and plenty of trash receptacles. You can walk down the road a bit to see the actual spring and old Civilian Conservation Corps building. Plenty of informational signage all around.
Susannah B — Google review
My kids said there was a weird smell. I didn't smell it. I thought it was a beautiful place to visit in the beginning of May, when it was still cool. And we didn't see any snakes.
Mariah R — Google review
Very beautiful a must if you are visiting carlsbad caverns. If you appreciate nature this is a must.
Will D — Google review
Very beautiful- a welcome refuge from the dry range surrounding it and from the Permian Basin oilfield traffic. Excellent bird-watching (Blue Mockingbird, wow!) and a good picnic spot.
Nina R — Google review
Don't miss this picnic area. The bird watching is excellent, the views most fine and the grounds clean and well kept. Day use only. You can camp on the nearby BLM land.

The Carlsbad Caverns Underground Lunch Room is a unique cafeteria-style eatery located below ground in a naturally formed cavern, making it a popular destination for tourists. The lunchroom underwent renovations in the 1950s to accommodate the increasing number of visitors, taking advantage of efficient food production and distribution systems. While some visitors found the food overpriced and not exceptional, many appreciated the experience of dining at the bottom of the cavern after exploring its wonders.
The absolute coolest lunch experience ever! I am a National Park Service supporter to the highest extent and eating at this underground lunchroom was just incredible. We went on 3/27/25 and 3/28/25 and both days we bought a couple of the best peanut butter jelly sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies (not an exaggeration) before continuing to explore the caverns and it was just such a unique experience. Support the NPS!!!! Worth every penny!

Cool spot to relax and eat either after you've come down the natural entrance or right before you leave. Sadly food selection is really lacking. They have ham or turkey sandwiches or salads for main meals. For snacks candy bars, some baked goods, small bags of chips, bottled soda and a few other small things. (At this time of posting 2023 sandwich costed $8.75, chips $1, brownie $4, soda $2.87, candy bar $2.19)

The caverns were amazing! Once in a lifetime experience. Food wasn't great and over priced and the bottom of the cavern, but we were famished and shared a sandwich. There are places to pull over on the road up to the caverns, we packed a cooler and pulled off for lunch with a view. Such an incredible experience! Highly recommend walking in!
Antoinette W — Google review
Great place to visit, very large cavern. Highly recommend.
William M — Google review
Absolutely beautiful. The area we stopped had bathrooms(not in the best condition). Kids got to run around and dogs are allowed!
Addyson M — Google review
The restaurant closes at 2 and they don’t sirve food at all, the cavern tickets stop selling at 2:30 and Google maps says at 5 so we made a long trip for nothing. Also, the bar fly. Bars not coming out, park ranger suggest to stay all night because u may see them go in and out during the nigh. No sell pol home allowed like if there was something u could take pictures of. Not worth it to make the trip so disappointed 😔

2 stars on the inconsideration alone. One thing that you hear about Carlsbad Caverns is that there is a lunchroom at the bottom leading you to believe that you can make the hour and a half trek and get something to eat before spending an hour touring the big room. If you take medicine, have blood sugar issues, or some other reason you can't wait to eat, you better eat before hand. It would be nice if they or the National Parks Service would let you know ahead of time.
George C — Google review
Back in 1996 the lunch room at the bottom of the cavern had some really good food. But they have since shut it down. The fried chicken and other food being cooked at the bottom attracted wildlife into the cave so now they only serve refrigerated sandwiches, fruit cups and a few other items. I understand why but its just not the same anymore. We skiped the lunch down below and opted for a picnic at the tables near the parking lot. It has the best views.

The Carlsbad Caverns National Park Visitor Center serves as the main entry point into the cave area and offers a wealth of information on cavern history, wildlife, and local flora and fauna. Visitors can explore exhibits on how the caves were formed, view a 3D model of the cave, and learn about the unique ecosystem. Additionally, there is a gift shop, cafeteria, and bookstore available for visitors to enjoy.
Awesome park! Geology at its wildest! Crazy rock formation, reflections in underground lakes, and crazy critters! The hike down is no piece of cake, 750' of elevation decline in a steep 1.25 miles...may not seem that bad, but it takes a toll. Luckily plenty of places to sit on the way down. I'd you're not in good shape or have joint/back issues, you can take the elevator straight down to the Big Room which is another 1.25 miles. We hiked down but used the elevator to get back up, it was exhausting. Also it can get a bit chilly down there so take a light jacket. Great park, I've never had a bad experience!

One of the most amazing places to experience the wonders of nature. I enjoyed sharing the experience with my daughter-in-law and granddaughter. After exploring the caves, we ended the evening watching the bats as they departed the cave for the night. The sounds of nature and star lit sky is worth the trip to Carlsbad Caverns. The Rangers are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Lisa M — Google review
Even though I use a cane for long walks, the self guided "Great Room" trek was AMAZING! There are sturdy, stainless steel handrails the entire way, so I probably would have been okay even without the cane. The areas where wheelchairs are prohibited are clearly marked. There are quite a few pull through parking spots for RVs, although it's a bit of a longer walk to the information center. This was also about the cleanest national park I have ever visited. There is an area next to the information desk that has a lot of exhibits and a movie theater that runs a very good 17 min video. I wish I would have done that first, as I found it answered many questions on my "self guided" tour.
Penny S — Google review
I had been here 30 years ago, but this was my husband's first time. He is a disabled Vet that uses a Rollator walker. We rode the elevator down and up. There is only part of the cave accessible with a wheelchair or walker. What we were able to see this time was amazing. He took quite few pics and kept exclaiming......Wow, Oh My, Look at THAT!! I recommend to take your time and look around, rent the audio tour devices from the Bookstore. A lot of people on the paths were almost speed walking thru. They missed a lot. I have a pretty good imagination and "I saw" formations that looked like gnomes, like a rock man (almost like Fantastic Four character), the back of a woman with a fringed jacket and skirt climbing in a hole high up a wall. Again take your time....we entered at 9:30 and didn't come out til 2ish. We ate in the cafe part of the gift shop. Browsed the gift shop and bookstore (bookstore is a run by the Park and all profits go back into park) and made purchases in both.
Kelly Q — Google review
The visitor center is very well organized and helpful. There are two rangers at the information desk who guide you through everything you need to know before entering the caverns. The ticket counter is easy to find and the entry fee is fifteen dollars per person for the self-guided tour. The exhibits inside are interesting, especially the large cave model and displays about the formations. There is also a good selection of souvenirs. A great place to start your visit and get all the details before heading into the caverns
Ratnam R — Google review
My second time here. You must watch the evening Bat Flight! It’s a MUST! The cavern is amazing. If you’ve never been, but perhaps you’ve been in some big cathedrals, I want you to imagine the biggest cathedral you’ve ever been in, and multiply by 20 to 30 times that size. That’s the great room in Carlsbad! But even that doesn’t really begin to describe it. Is something you simply have to see in person. It’s jaw dropping!
Richard Z — Google review
Such a nice place, the Rangers were very nice and the gift store was plentiful. The cave it self is just beyond description. They have made it very safe and 75% is accessable by wheel chair. The Bat fight was fun and interesting.
Robert M — Google review
Put this in your bucket list! Amazing park and caverns. The biggest cavern room in North America. If you’re fit and like to walk take the natural entrance and then you can use the elevator to get out. Gift shop is a must see! Buy a reservation online to speed up check in

Super cool little spot we came upon during our cross country road trip. They have a little time capsule cafe and lots of little period items on display in addition to the cars. The owners were great. We had no idea they were closed because they accepted us and gave us a tour. They took their time telling us about all the cars. And the best part is they let our 4 year old sit in and "drive" pretty much every car he asked to. What a sweet couple! Order visit and door them some support of your every close.

Not open and phone disconnected. Can still see cars inside through a gap in the curtain but could not get in or find anyone. Shame. Looks interesting.

Excellent museum! Give yourself at least two hours to walk through it all because it is FULL of neat displays. The building itself is neat too; the combined history of a saloon and a hotel create a beautiful vintage scene. There’s something for everyone to enjoy!

If you are visiting Pecos, Texas you ought to go see this museum. It's a collection of artifacts from the region. You get to see a glimpse of how people survived the unforgiving West Texas landscape. It's a little bit chaotic in some spots but it's educational and very interesting for the most part. If I had a suggestion for the museum it would be to look into offering an audio tour. I'm sure there's a lot that could be shared with visitors via an audio experience.
R. V — Google review
The admission charge is $10/person and $1 less for those 65 and older. We've spent more than an hour here, thisy the admission charge is very reasonable. This museum has good compendium of historical items from Pecos and surrounding areas. The museum could use bit of maintenance and some of the exhibits are in need of attention. The attendants were very friendly and were very helpful with the tips on getting the most of the exhibits across the three floors of this museum.
Bill J — Google review
Such an incredible collection of artifacts and memorabilia of life way out west. Super friendly and helpful museum staff, too. Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in Pecos for some reason.

Delightful and varied exhibits! Allow 2 or 3 hours to look through it. Check out the gift shop, they have some good items!

The lady who works it is Very nice and informative. $8 entry, open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm 3 floors of interesting 1800s and 1900s stuff. My brother told me I should go and I'm glad I did...Loved It❣️

The highlight of our trip. Showed great insight into the life on the frontier and in Pecos over all. All items were well preserved and one got to appreciate just how tough the early folks were and how difficult life was.The places aura was amazing and being a western fiction fan I took my sweet time enjoying the place. Would love to visit again
M Z — Google review
I thought this museum would just be west Texas history. Yes, this museum has that. However, I didn't realize that it also covers history of the town itself. Even recent history, from the last 50 years. Very informative, and bigger than I expected. You could easily spend a couple of hours here, if you read most of what is available. I recommend it, if you're in town.

Having driven 400 miles from Fort Worth to Wink on a Friday afternoon. We thought that the museum was closed, but on the door was a list of names with phone numbers. As we didn't have cellphone, being from the UK, we sat in the car trying to use a tablet, when a car pulled up behind us. A lady got out and started to walk towards our car, it happened to be Barbara whose name I had seen in a previous review. Having lowered the driver's window, she asked if we wished to go into the museum. She told us that she was on her way home from work, and if a parked car was outside the museum, she always stopped to check. The museum is housed in one room with quite a large number of exhibits, the pièce de résistance is a pair of Roy's prescription sunglasses which she allowed my wife and I to try on. What a great honor. Thank you, Barbara, for making our visit so wonderful. You are a fantastic curator.

I have planned all my trip around this museum. I called like asked on the door, and Barbara showed really quickly. She really loves the museum, she explains everything, ask about where you are from... She is a really lovely lady. She also explains me how to get to the place where was his house initially. A must visit for the real Roy Orbison's fans like me :)
Adeline V — Google review
I didn't get to go inside, but it's a really neat little spot. Took a few pictures and listened to some of Roy's music as I drove back through this sleepy little Texas town.

Wow! This museum was awesome! I called to Debbie and she could came to the place after few minutes! At the window there is other volunteers numbers, if some one do not have time? Debbie told good history from Roy. Starting from his young age. I am not showing pictures here, you got to go there if interested. But ofcource there was that sad accident, were Roys first wife Claudette died😭 And yes, she told the burying place too and it is at Westwood Village Memorial park! An unmarked grave, please make marking to maps if some one nows better? And then I saw something extra rare! Signatures from Beatles band! Song writer Carl Perkings gaved that present to Roy. And I left my only Finland flag there as present too and I attacted a greeting poster there too: Fan with greetings from Finland: Henri😊 And I did not know that; I was only visitor from Finland! Leaving flag there was like a singh from God! Like from sing; Only the lonely😊 Maybe not need to be lonely long time any more😊 And Debbie gaved Roys sunclasses for taking a foto with "paper" Roy, what a great foto to remember!
Henri R — Google review
Apparently, Google is listing this as "Permanently Closed" that is not true, I called the Wink, Texas City Hall and was advised that all I had to do was call one of the numbers on the notice on the door and that someone would come and open it up for a tour. Will be there tomorrow (August 5, 2022) and will update Update: We arrived around noon and called Barbara who came in a very short amount of time. As a long time fan of Roy Orbison since the 60's this was on my bucket list. This is a small building but Barbara gave us an excellent tour and is very knowledgeable about Orbison time in Wink. If you're an Orbison fan it's well worth the visit, they have a pair of Orbison's sunglasses donated by his wife. A map in the museum has pins representing visitors from all over the world. I was particularly impressed with the representation from the country of my birth - England. This museum is open on a call basis, just call one of the numbers on the door.
Nigel B — Google review
Make sure to call ahead if you want a tour, which I can only assume would take less than 10 minutes due to the fact that it is only one small room in an old strip of mostly vacant buildings. Still, it is a very interesting spot relevant to the upbringing of an absolute icon of American music. If you find yourself nearby, stop in and take your chances. It's a fun, quirky oddity in the vastness of West Texas.
Tim A — Google review
Very nice museum in the town of Wink. This is the place where Roy Orbison spent his childhood. He said that there wasn't much in Wink other than oil and sand back then and that still holds true as you still see a large number of trucks hauling sand to be used for fracking.
Rolf S — Google review
Actually, we didn’t know to call ahead for someone to open the museum and the docent on duty was out of town. It looked cool from the storefront windows, though.

Ok so I live in monahans for my whole life and I've never been here until my grandma took me and when I tell you this place is amazing it is but if I were you I would not go in the house alone because it is a bit haunted. Fun fact my grandma used to babysit in that same house but she said it looked different when she baby-sat but it is a (usually) free fun thing to do so if your close to monahans or in monahans I would go check it out if you do I hope you have a much fun as I did bye

Odessa Meteor Crater

Visitor center
Sights & Landmarks
An aptly named landmark featuring the 2nd-largest U.S. meteor crater, a trail & visitor's center.
I can't evaluate the museum, because we were there on Memorial Day, & the museum is always closed on Mondays. I enjoyed seeing the plants and lizards, so different than what I see in Pennsylvania. There were a number of wildflowers blooming, possibly due to thunderstorms the previous day or so. The Crater itself isn't overwhelming, because it has filled in considerably from the elements. And yet I still found it intriguing.
A. A — Google review
Nice displays in the visitor center. It would have been neat to see it before it's been mostly filled in due to nature. Still worth a stop. Donations appreciated.
Lisa B — Google review
If you come, don't expect to walk into a deep crater because it has been mostly filled in over the many years since this was created. However, there is a trail that allows you to walk over the filled in areas with historical information from the research that was done many years ago. The trail leads you into and around the outer edge of the crater and into a museum. I was surprised that the museum was opened on July 4th. Inside you can read more about the crater, see artifacts, and learn more about the site.
Francisco L — Google review
Other than my daughter and future son in law finding a puppy (pic of puppy at vet next day)that was dumped....it was a very interesting place!
Vic K — Google review
Two craters formed as a result of meteor impacts. Note that the craters, while large, are mostly filled in.
Bruce P — Google review
Located just outside of Odessa, TX, 3 miles South of I-20. It was very easy to locate, and is well worth the visit if you are in the area. Unlike the Barringer Crater in AZ, this is not a family owned cash grab. It's free admission, has a small, but interesting museum, and they rely heavily on donations and sales to maintain the place. The site actually has two impact craters, one which is completely filled in and one that is mostly filled. They have a footpath around the crater rim area with plenty of informational signs. As you leave the site, there are signs designating the bodies of our solar system. It's crazy to think about the scale of it. The inner rocky planets and sun were all located within about 200 feet of another, and three miles later there's Pluto.
James R — Google review
Interesting details on the impact site. Short trail through the depressions. Lots of rocks to look at 👍🏻. Covered picnic tables. Museum is closed on Mondays.
Jess L — Google review
Neat stop if you have the time....they think the meteor hit 50,000 years ago and initially created a 100 foot deep crater....which has sine filled in to only 6 feet deep...interesting to see and it's free. Pay attention to the small planet signs on the right side of the road when you leave for a real life example of how far apart the planets are.

Music City Mall

Old-school mall since 1980 offering kids' play areas, a food court, movie theater & indoor ice rink.
Everything Bigger and Better in Texas! Located in Odessa. Has everything you need! Kids will love it! Skating rink, play areas, candy shop better than Disney Land! First mall I have ever seen, that had "Ten Commandments Monument!" Loved and Appreciated that! Food court small, but Quality food choices! My mexican Street Tacos were a 10!

Pretty sick mall with good vibes. Library book vending machine, massage chairs, roller rink, and some cool classic cars all around. Didn't find anything worth purchasing, but the vibe is great.

Lots of Martin guitars. Lots of other brand-name guitars. Some interesting instruments, such as dulcimer’s, ukuleles, banjos. Not what I would consider a very good store to buy from. Prices were high.

Music City Mall is an amazing place for shopping, walking, or just hanging out. It is a large mall with tons of great stores and shops. The food court is huge and has a lot of excellent options as well. Great place for adults and kids alike. Absolutely so much to do and see.

i cannot speak for anyone else as your experience may not 'feel' the same. but to me, who has always wanted to travel to see the original, visited on the first day of fall. it was well worth the extra stop to see this in person! great job to the university and students who undertook this 'modern marvel'

Cool attraction by UT Permian Basin Outside of the stones themselves, there’s a couple informational placards on the history of Stonehenge and how this replica was put together
Kevin W — Google review
It's free, easy to get to, has plenty of parking, and is a really cool monument to UT Permian's Art Department--pun intended. There's a nice paved walking path around it and several benches interspersed. There's even a tree swing nearby. If you're in Odessa, why not swing by and take a look?

This was way better than what I expected. The sheer size of the stones were very impressive. There are a lot of facts spread out around the exhibit detailing the history of Stonehenge. It is located at the entrance of the University of Texas Permian Basin. Parking was super easy and was not a problem at all. We came on a Thursday and there was no one else visiting but the weekends could be different, especially in warmer months. A really neat place to visit!

Fine arts center with various exhibits, a sculpture garden & cultural programs including lectures.
Due to construction the exhibits have been moved next door to the John Ben Shepperd building aka the President's Museum. It's totally free. You can currently see a small portion of the President's archival material as well as 2 exhibits from the Ellen Noel museum. The quilt exhibit was particularly unique and interesting. They also have a nice gift shop with soaps, fancy lotions, jewelry, blown glass knickknacks, stuffed toys and a few shirts. Also, don't forget to check out one of the Bush houses behind the museum. Definitely worth a visit, what else are you going to do in Odessa?

Ask for a tour if available the education staff is superb. The museum offers monthly educational activities and summer programming as well.

I got to see Tom Lea's "Stampede" in person!! I like this museum, it is small, quiet, and cost $0 to get in. Beautiful permanent collection, and I saw Diana Kersey sculptures in the other gallery. I also loved the garden. A peaceful area to listen to birds and admire nature and art.

Owned by The University of Texas, it hosts a wide range of performances including concerts, operas, ballets, Broadway shows, comedy acts, and symphony performances. With over 150 live performances annually, the center attracts national acts such as Cirque du Soleil and world-famous musicians like ZZ Top.
Beautiful venue!! We came here from the southeast panhandle to see one of our favorites, The Panhandlers and Tyler Halverson! It was a fantastic concert! Everyone was well behaved & could see the concert. Seats were comfortable. Beverage prices were a bit much, but I suppose that's to be expected at such a place. All in all it was a great time & I'd go back again

Good experience, getting inside the event was fast, they have a little bar, clean bathrooms, nice theater, chairs are a little tight and no cup holders, with everyone having drinks, cup holders need to be added. Took the wife on a treck across Central Texas to see a band perform. It was a bit of a journey to get there, but we'll worth it! We stayed in hotel down the road from the venue. The roads to the parking lots were bring worked on, so there was a bit of confusion on where to turn to get to the lot. Once inside, access to our seats was easy, and close to the performance. We had a great time! Plenty of parking. The location was clean and well maintained. I would visit again if there was another big act in town! Great place to see shows!

Me and my wife has been there twice. Once to see Jeff Dunham and his puppets it was great and then May 2nd we went to see Theresa Caputo and we had a great time

Honestly The venue itself is fine, but the bartending staff completely ruined the experience. I had to repeat my drink order multiple times, waited in line so long I missed 30 minutes of the show, and then was randomly cut off for no reason. The bartender taking my order was dismissive, unprofessional, and clearly didn’t care. Terrible service from the bar staff — definitely needs to be addressed.

The I-20 Wildlife Preserve & Jenna Welch Nature Study Center, located just north of the highway in Midland, Texas, offers nearly 100 acres of urban playa lake habitat. With over 30 acres of wetlands and 3.4 miles of trails, visitors can explore the diverse wilderness and observe wildlife from viewing platforms and blinds. The preserve features a butterfly garden, boardwalks for leisurely strolls, and opportunities for birdwatching.
It is a true wild life preserve. It was pretty dry when I went and I initially was planning on going for a run. I went alone so just decided to walk to check it out. It's actually really pretty but there are real animals out there. I'm glad I got to see some real wildlife. I'd say just be careful, especially with younger children but definitely worth checking out

I've been here for a few years and I've just now found this place recently and I love it the highway is loud but there's no where else like this in midland so I don't mind. Great place to walk around and view nature, and if you're like me, it's great for photos to.

The place is for the greenery lovers around the west Texas. I visited on a weekend during the month of April. I think it would get better when there will some rain. The place has about 2mile roundabout trail. Very calm and shady to walk. There are observation points along the trail for bird watching and maybe some wildlife. I was lucky to see a bunny during my walk. 😊👍

Beautiful and convenient place to easily escape and enjoy nature. Walking path is a little over a mile and well taken care of. Lots of shade trees. A bird watching area. Occasional signs introduce native plant and animal life and readily identify species your likely to see.

Great little place to get in contact with mother nature. Nice walking ways all around. Depends on when you visit, you can spot lots of butterflies, dragonflies, ducks, & different types of birds. Unfortunately some of the areas have been getting really noisy by the surroundings businesses. No to many quiet & peaceful spots anymore. I have to admit. It would be great if they would open the park up a little time before sunrise.

The Museum of the Southwest, located in Midland, Texas, is housed in the historic 1934 Turner Mansion and offers a diverse range of exhibits showcasing regional art, culture, science, and archaeology. Visitors can explore the Marian Blakemore Planetarium for daily presentations, the Turner Memorial Art Gallery with rotating exhibits, and the Fredda Turner Durham Children's Museum featuring interactive displays for kids.
UPDATE Dec 2024:We came back for another visit and well worth it. Visited the planetarium this time along with the Turner house with new showings. Be sure to stop by. Posted some new photos of art exhibits. 2022: This was a real treat for us. We were looking for something to do in-between evening visits with relatives over the weekend. Senior price made it very to pay for tour. There is main building and connecting Turner House to visit. The Turner house built back in the 1930s lets you know how those with the bucks built a large house. The interior furnishings are gone replaced by the art and details about the Turner family (twice Kentucky Derby winner for one thing). There are separate buildings for the kids and be sure to visit the scale model trains running in the depot. On Sat until noon there is a separate vendor fair to shop.

My family and I absolutely love the Children’s Museum at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas. We’ve visited on both paid days and Free Sundays, and it’s always been a fantastic experience. I have a 3-year-old and a 13-year-old, and I’ve been bringing them since they were little. They both enjoy exploring the entire space, engaging with all the interactive exhibits. My youngest son had an absolute blast, and my oldest still loves it just as much. One of the highlights for us is the train shack outside, which especially captured my oldest’s attention. The staff member there was enthusiastic, taking the time to play “I Spy” with the kids, which truly enhanced our experience. The staff is friendly, and the museum is always clean, making it a comfortable and welcoming environment for families. For adults, the art displays are stunning. Every time we visit, there’s something new, and the exhibits never fail to amaze. Even my kids love to engage with the art and statues, which is wonderful to see. We always make sure to visit the planetarium building too, it’s a must! I’m so thankful that Midland, Texas, has such enriching places like this for our kids to enjoy and learn. We will continue to make this a family tradition for years to come.

Really great a good mix of indoor & outdoor interactive installations. Things for kids & adults. We particularly enjoyed finding out abt the history of Midland.

Nice place to visit, but misnamed. It's not a museum; it's an art gallery and has little to do with the Southwest other than being physically located in Texas. The mansion is nice, but it's not set up as a house but rather more of the art gallery. Price is reasonable and includes the children's museum and planetarium. They might want to change the name to the "Turner Gallery" or something that is a little more accurate to describe the place.

The Bush Family Home State Historic Site offers guided tours of the humble residence where both the 41st and 43rd U.S. Presidents resided from 1951 to 1955. The historical tour is enjoyable and provides insights into this cultural destination. With a considerate tour guide, minimal waiting time due to low visitor numbers, and an overall worthwhile experience, it receives a top rating.
You have to check in and buy tickets across the street at the “house” behind the Texas Mural. We had a guided tour and he gave great information and was able to answer all of our questions. There was information about the towns of Midland and Odessa and a wall about baseball of course. My husband, newly retired Airman, said twice, “It’s not every day you get to see the childhood home and bedroom of your Commander and Chief.” It was a neat experience.

We spent an informative hour touring the home. My wife and I were the only people on the tour, so we were able to ask lots of questions. Our guide was knowledgeable and very patient with us. Although he wasn't my favorite president, I always find that visiting their homes gives me a better understanding of the person that they became. There is no substitute for seeing the place itself, so you can get some hands-on history. This modest home, although upscale for 1950 Midland Texas, left me with a strong impression, stronger than any biography. Someone commented that there isn't a lot of history here. I disagree. There is a huge amount of history here. This home has been lovingly restored to the original condition, filled with period pieces, and appears very much like the original photos. I loved the 1950 refrigerator from Laura Bush's childhood home, which still works. I wish I had one of those-it is better than any modern fridge, with a foot operated door opener, lazy susan shelving and beautiful style. But most of all, it still works!

Very neat museum to go through. This is probably the best Harvest Host we have stayed at yet. Other then a little road construction that made the GPS a little loopy getting off the HWY, it was very easy to get to and the large open parking lot made it easy as well. though we arrive later in the afternoon and didn’t get to spend as much fine as we would have liked in the museum, we did get to walk the grounds for a while and look at all the older machinery. We will definitely make another stay when we are back in the region.

This is a great little museum that we found partially by accident. The staff is friendly and helpful. The aircraft are well maintained and there are two cockpits to sit in, an A-10 and a B-52. It's a good place to stop and learn a little of the history of the Army Airforces (WWII) and the Air force (Korea and Vietnam). Plus it's free! Definitely recommend a stop here.

Very interesting museum. Docent told the story of the WW2 bomber training. Leashed dogs are allowed inside the hanger. Planes and other exhibits mostly inside, a few planes parked outside.

A small free aircraft museum with few exhibits but great. Our teenaged boys were thrilled about being able to climb inside the B52 cockpit. Martha and Amber were great. A small gift shop with very reasonably priced gifts. A must see if you’re traveling by I-20 west of Dallas. The only issue was Google map took us to the wrong side of the museum so we had to drive around to find the entrance side.

I appreciated the introduction from the attendant. The museum is not really big but it's full of history. The two cockpits that are available to sit in were great. I'm glad I stopped in, and they have this free to the public.

We spent one night alongside 4 other rigs. It was pretty level and we felt safe. Unfortunately we arrived after the museum closed and they weren’t open the next day. I’d suggest a way to donate be offered. The only negative was when trying to walk our dog there were mostly stickers/burrs in the few grass areas. We appreciate the hospitality.

Fantastic museum and staff. They were so welcoming. We stayed here through Harvest Hosts and loved it. Would stay here again. The museum is a beautiful restoration of the old AFB. Getting to go inside the cockpit of an old B-52 was amazing. It's a must visit museum if you're in Texas.

Big Spring State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park
This 382-acre recreation area includes a 200-ft. bluff, a 3-mile loop road & picnic tables.
We absolutely love this park. You cannot beat the scenery here. The playground is simple but my kids (4 and 11) both have so much fun playing on it. They have a nice picnic area with tables placed right near some of the best views. We live in Michigan but travel here to Big Spring for my husband's work often. We come to this park every single time we are here.
Ashley T — Google review
I never thought to come here, but we were driving through and stopped at the overlook. It was soooo pretty! We saw a big dust devil in the background! It's amazing how far you can see!
Alicia S — Google review
Very nice park to walk around with some really nice views (even though it's a combination of city and nature). Make sure to be hydrated and have water when you go. The big loop isn't hard but it can get you in some spots with the loose rock and changes in elevation. They unfortunately do not have a park store so I can't add to my collection but they do have a nice little play area for kids and a good amount of covered seating/picnic spots.

Great for trail running. Good cell reception. Only a handful of technical areas. Highly recommend.
Marc B — Google review
The beauty of the water and rocks was stunning. The lovely metal sculptures depicted the history of the area and the plaques told more of the story by the limestone amphitheater. I wish I lived closer so I could see the events held in that lovely place. I was also impressed see the multiple playground and picnic areas all throughout the park.
Dale N — Google review
Was surprised Headquarters was closed...and no staff anywhere...few visitors were paying the park fee. Lots of hikers and cars driving to see the views of the city .
Kathy T — Google review
Nice to get outdoors to walk or bike the different trails.
Ralph T — Google review
This was actually a very pleasant surprise. The website for this park really doesn't do it justice. It's very, very small, but in spite of this they managed to produce around 7 to 8 miles of very enjoyable walking/hiking trails. It's also very easy to find from I-20. Google says that this is a 24 hour park, but that is not the case. Its open to the public from 8am to 10pm. There is no fee for entry, no check-in process. There is a playground up by the rangers headquarters if you have kids. The view is amazing all around on the paved trail, which runs much higher than the more primitive outer loop trail. The outer loop trail brings you closer to nature than does the paved loop trail.

Park
Just went to this water park with my son and three grandchildren, 13, 2, 7 mos., they had a blast. They charge $5 per person 3+yrs old, and do not allow outside drink containers, or coolers.
Claudia O — Google review
It's $5 per person. They have a full snack bar complete with fountain drinks, hot food, candy, and ice cream. The snack bar does accept cards and tap to pay. Multiple lifeguards on duty. Pavillions are available to rent by time slots through the city. The entire complex is available to rent out for private events as well. Great place for families!
Alicia V — Google review
We had a blast at the pool! They have a good size splash area and small slides for yonder children. Lazy river and the slides are so fun for big kids and adults too. The admission fee was very reasonable for the quality! There were shaded areas which were nice but the ground gets very hot and you need water shoes or flip flops to walk around comfortably. I wish they are open through end of August!
Y F — Google review
Such a fun little aquatic center! 2 big slides, a lazy river, a splash pad, a toddler slide area, and a ropes obstacle course! The pool doesn't get more than about 4ft and feels perfect in the hot weather!

First time being here was awesome. It looked rather busy but it was plenty big enough for the kids to play and enjoy themselves (even the adults!). There was plenty to keep the kids entertained. Definitely a must for the summer!

LIFE K — Google review
First time since they first opened years ago, it was a great family experience! Snack bar is fairly priced but need better system lines are way too long to be in 💯 degree weather! Restrooms needs to be tended too more frequently, they need a full time janitor during business hours. Life guards are kids themselves, they need Older life guards to be able to handle the younger generation. They need a better system for checking personal bags.. again need Adults at the check point.

Nice little museum for a really low price (note: Potton house no longer included). I definitely learned a few things I never knew before, such as a female bull fighter and a local who became a movie star and Jean Porter, who was a movie actress and pinup girl.

They have been making updates and I have to say as much as I liked it before I Love it now! It is filled with truck history and had unique and beautiful gifts to buy They feature artists, local events, community events and they have a hands on display in the oil display. More things they I can remember Sheryl if one of the sweetest, friendliest person you could meet. The Museum is so open and generous to the community. For several years they have allowed my Quilting Guild to display Quilts we have sold tickets to raffle for various fund raisers. They have the tree lights each year kid friendly events and so much more. Check them out they are amazing!

We are driving cross country and needed a break. We pulled off and this was the only open ‘attraction’. We were greeted by Cheryl, the nicest and sweetest lady we’ve met so far. She was knowledgeable and fun to talk to, also humorous and kind. The museum is small, but pretty cool. We were grateful for the break and the peek into this part of the world, as well as the hospitality of Cheryl.

Lake Colorado City State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
500-acre lakeside park with camping & cabins, plus kayak rentals, fishing, swimming & nature trails.
This was the cleanest park I have ever been to. The bathrooms, the cabins, the roads and everything in between. The wildlife (which there is a TON of) comes right up to you almost, and the views are amazing. You get decent phone service, the cabins have good air conditioners, microwave and mini fridge, and is just a very nice size for the whole family- again, VERY clean. The Rangers were so kind, and checked up on things all the time. All together I have nothing even slightly negative to say- this place is gorgeous and perfect. My whole family- dog and all- had the best time!

Traveling to the barren flat land that is west Texas, It may seem that the artistic hand of God was suddenly distracted and hopped over to Colorado. Nesetked in these flat lands - - some 11 mikes offf the main hwy - Is a camping oasis known as Lake Colorado City State Park. The park was empty except one other camper causing a welcomed quote to settle up on me as I gazed out the window towards the lake that was fronted by cactus and other sharp leaves desert plants. The day Rea is well thought out with family areas spaced adequately to provide for some privacy. Individual family areas are equipped with a covered picnic table and BBQ cast iron BBQ grill. There is a spacious boat ramp and parking lot, and a kyack launching area. Keep your food in the car until your ready to eat because the Bees will swarm it and you. Quaint Small cabins lined the beach front and are most likely rented by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Wildlife includes assorted birds rabbits, Armedilla road runners all of which are not aFraid of humans. I've never seen a road runner stand still on the road before. Food should be secured in your vehicle after dinner to avoid the wild rabbits or other wildlife from eating it.

I stopped here to stretch my legs on my way back to DFW. Not far off I-20. I hiked on the trails and they are pretty cool. There is a loop through a bunch of cactus which line a lot of the trail. Then there is an out and back trail along the edge of the water. Not the most scenic place with power infrastructure nearby but as far the trails go, I'd recommend a short stop.

My husband and I are avid campers in our teardrop camper. We often stay at National and State parks. We stayed at this park Friday August 22. We knew we would be a late arrival after 930pm and started calling the park early Friday around noon. We called until 430pm then tried the after hours number. There was no answer at either number. We arrived and followed the map to our site that was provided on the website. Set up was quick and easy. We headed over to the showers, there was no outside lights around the restroom. It was completely dark walking up to the building. I would expect a motion detector light at least, A motion light would at least turn on the porch area when we walk up. The restroom needs major attention. There was mud dauber nest in the corners of the restroom in several places. The restroom stall have a large hole between the stalls that prevents privacy. The restroom was stocked with soap and the water was hot for the shower. Our site was nice and the park was quiet. We have stayed at many Texas State parks and this was not what we expected.
Antonette M — Google review
We only stayed one night, since we were travelling on our way to Utah. But, we had a blast in this beautiful park with very clean restrooms. The amount of birds was amazing!! And the hiking trails are a lot of fun.

Located a few miles south of the I20, Lake Colorado City State Park is a good place to swim. People usually say that lake water is not clear, but that is true of any lake. So set your expectation and you will enjoy it. We were able to get campsites right on the water and that made a difference for us because we swam at every opportunity we got. We interacted with the rangers because we were able to perform a service project here. Our crew of 8 young men and 5 adults were able to repaint one of the larger pavilions after sanding and stripping the paint. It took us an hour and a half to complete the task. Our young men enjoyed the service provided and the rangers were very appreciative of our efforts. There were working restrooms and showers so that was great. There were dumpsters located in the campgrounds so we didn't have to pack out our trash.

Cinema 1 & 2

Movie theater
Fun & Games
A small movie theatre that never seems to disappoint. They have popular movies relatively fast and cheap snacks. For a large popcorn and large drink it was 5 dollars and on top of that they're usually limited edition cups fit for the given film. If you're finding yourself with a bigger appetite though they have free refills on any large items
Caleb M — Google review
I been coming here to watch big movies since I was born here in Snyder TX in 1998. Enjoyed every second of it but I have to say a few things that need a major improvement. The area where you check in needs some major renovation. The floor is cracking and really starting to show its age, same for the restrooms. Other than that everything else is fine. The big screen areas are big enough to fit dozens of people, great sound, great detail on screen, seats are kinda comfortable and the snack area has a large selections of food and drinks to buy from. Plus the staff are friendly, same for the owner. Only problem with this place it really needs a renovation, time for some improvements please because it’s been several decades!.
Logan D — Google review
The worker named Lauren was SO RUDE and we had to wait 10 minutes while the movie was going to get service from her while she say there on the counter on her phone, then we went another time and had the same experience. She gave us dirty looks both times and even insulted one of us. This has happened over 3 times at this point and she still act that way.
Dianne C — Google review
The overall presentation when you first walk in is kinda bad. It needs a make over or remodeling. The floors are absolutely terrible. I will say that the seats were comfortable, but the sound was terrible. It wasn't any different than watching TV at home. They need to offer more than popcorn & candy. That's so 1980's. Offering pickles in a sandwich bag just didn't get it for me.
Trehn H — Google review
This place has been, more or less, the same since I was a kid. Something fun to do when you want to get out of the house, especially during the heat of the summer. Decent variety of snacks and drinks to choose from and the employees are nice.
Jessie R — Google review
I was pleasantly surprised by this theater. There are only two theaters and the concessions area seemed...lacking. I usually avoid the high price of theater food, so I can't speak to the quality there. The price was dirt cheap! I'm used to spending $10/person in bigger cities, but for myself and my daughter to see a movie on a Monday night, it was only $9. So, I was expecting a lousy theater. I was shocked again. The seats weren't super snazzy, but for the price they were great. The screen was decent for the theater. I was even more shocked by their sound system. There was pretty good surround sound, as well, and in the movie we watched, Toy Story 4, the movie took advantage of the surround sound and it was a fun treat. I highly recommend this place for the price and the quality of the theater. I can't really speak to the concessions stand, but I'm sure it's typical faire at a theater. I hope this helps someone.
Christopher C — Google review
I drove thirty minutes to watch justice league at this theater. After arriving, a sign on the door says they will not be showing justice league. The website held no indication of this, so I just wasted my time and gas. That being said, overall this theater is great. The bathrooms are clean, chairs are comfy, popcorn is absolutely delicious, and the people are friendly. But they seriously need to update their website more often.
Autumn C — Google review
Not the greatest cinema in the world but for the price of admission great value. And you don't have to drive 80 miles. Snacks are much more reasonable than other cinemas. Never had a problem with staff always been helpful to me.

More than I expected. One hangar is full of displays, video presentations, artifacts, and kiosks, describing what life was like for the WASP. Very ordered, and thorough. There is a gift shop as well. The second hangar continues with their life after volunteering but is focused more on the planes, engines, etc. Well worth a visit. Allow a couple of hours.

This great museum shows the role women pilot played in aviation during WWII. You’ll learn about their training, their relationships to each other and the community around. If you so fancy, you can also try a flight simulator. The museum has plenty to see, allow a couple of hours. In this day and age, it is certainly important to highlight how our sisters, mothers, daughters can be inspiring… Please go!

A beautiful museum showing the roles women played in aviation during WWII. They not only showcased the important women who moved mountains during that time, but they also incorporated differrnt simulations so that you could get a sense and feel on how the women trained at the base, what their rooms looked like, and how close of a friendship and bond they all truly had. It's such an amazing and beautiful piece of history.

If you're into frontier history, or even US history, at all this is a must see. I was fortunate enough to meet the owners and tour with an individual that did much of the restoration work. The fort has some fascinating history and stories. Also, if you're coming from tbe south google will guide you to a cemetery nearby, keep going about another mile to the entrance.
