Nature & Parks
Redwood National and State Parks is a vast woodland system that houses some of the largest and tallest trees on earth. The parks offer numerous opportunities to explore ancient forests, as well as the wild coastlines of northern California. With 73 discovery points, visitors can embark on short hikes through the redwood forest to witness remarkable sights such as the Grove of Titans and Bull Creek Flats. Adventure seekers can enjoy dirt roads and scenic routes through Humboldt and Mendocino backcountry.
Such a unique park with so many things to see and do aside from the big trees! The area/park is huge! Runs for over an hour north and south. Plan for a couple days! Get your reservations for the two timed reservation area of the fern canyon and tall trees! Drive around the area! Go to the scenic view points! Go to the beaches! Walk among the trees! Eat and stay at the nearby towns! Visit all the visitor centers! Take it all in! It’s one of the best parks out there!
Willie R — Google review
This is a must see for all families and anyone who appreciates the outdoors. It's amazing to see these giants reaching into the sky. Some of the bases are well over 10 ft wide. Let's hope the next several generations will be able to visit and enjoy this, instead of it being harvested or die from pollution.
Kevin P — Google review
Some huge Redwood trees located in this forest. Only seen in California to Washington. Worth taking a drive there if you are going through the area. Thousands of them in this area. Enjoy the big ones that take 40+ years to get that size.
Orrin H — Google review
One of the best hiking and camping trips I’ve done. Photos don’t do justice to how monstrous these trees truly are in person. You feel like you’re walking through a real Jurassic Park. Truly amazing. Mother Nature is astonishing.
Theo E — Google review
If you only think of this as a National Park with big trees, you are missing out. It is also a great ocean park with great beaches and Roosevelt Elk walking amongst the waves. Fern canyon is epic as well, one of those hikes you will never forget. Plus, there are many great drives, overlooks, wildlife, river activities, campgrounds, and trails. Top all that off with the tallest trees on earth. Underrated, you will be hard pressed to find a park more enjoyable.
Wyatt P — Google review
Definitely worth visiting, 2 days will allow you to see the highlights of the park. All the visitors centers have friendly staff. Fern canyon was well worth seeing. Depending on when you go you do need a reservation for this. The views are breathtaking and it’s amazing to see all the redwoods. Scenic routes are a must for this national park and well worth your time.
Stacey — Google review
It's been quite a few years since I've been to the Redwood National Park. We did the hike from the visitors center to the BIG TREE. I love these huge beautiful trees. I do think that there's a lot more downed trees then last time and wish (hope) that the state would do a better job of forest management then it looks like they are doing. We should do everything we can to save these forests for future generations.
Cecilia S — Google review
It’s a mesmerizing place to be. Redwood national is so vast and beautiful with different landscapes. It is a perfect place for hiking, trekking, driving, camping, swimming the list goes on and on. Being there made us realize how small we humans are!!!!!!

Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail

Outdoor Activities
Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail is a 1.4-mile scenic trail located in an upland redwood grove, dedicated to the environmentally-minded former First Lady. Situated north of Ferndale, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is renowned for its resident Roosevelt Elk and Fern Canyon, which was featured in 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park.' The grove offers a rare view of a ridge-top redwood forest with diverse understory plants such as rhododendrons and ferns.
Excellent 1.5-mile trail round-trip from the parking lot. Feels like a leisurely stroll. One of the must do hikes in the Redwoods. It is an easy, peaceful, and tranquil trail threw the trees. The forest at this elevation is super lush, supporting an understory of smaller trees and plants. Plus, the ground is covered in ferns in most places.
Wyatt P — Google review
Scenic trail surrounded by towering redwoods and elevated views that give a different perspective compared to lower groves. The walk is easy and accessible, making it suitable for most visitors. Interpretive signs along the trail add context about the forest and its history. Parking is limited, so arriving early helps. A peaceful and memorable stop.
Matt D — Google review
Great hike!! There were about 10 of us ages 55 to almost 80. We all really enjoyed our hike. Limited parking but we all found a space. The rest rooms were a plus. Everything was clean and neat from the parking lot to the trails.
Joy A — Google review
Magical! There is a reason this is one of the most visited trails in the park. There are so many ancient redwoods, spectacular rhododendrons when in season. The trail is flat and wide, easy to hike for all ages and abilities. GO IN THE MORNING FOR THE BEST EXPERIENCE. Beware: this parking lot will fill up at peak hours during the summer. Also- the road (Bald Hills Road) is not in good condition. You will have to share this narrow road with logging trucks. RVs are not recommended.
Michelle B — Google review
An easy, beautiful hike through redwoods and rhododendrons. It's a good hike for most ability levels, with only a few hills, and a wide, level path. It leads past some particularly big redwoods, some of which are hollow, and depending on the season there are all kinds of wildflowers.
Claire C — Google review
Absolutely amazing. Loved that the kids are allowed to play and climb on the trees in this area. It is a short easy hiking loop. Lots of great photo opportunities.
The F — Google review
This hike gives you a different visual experience than the other redwood forests in this region. There are less fallen trees and a greater change in its topography than other locations. What makes this hike even more unique than others, is that it gives you very close access to the trees themselves. On top of that, depending on weather conditions, the trees can be covered in clouds, making this experience very special.
Greg R — Google review
You have to see the Redwoods to really appreciate just how huge these trees really are and this grove is absolutely spectacular! The road to get there is quite steep but it is paved. There is parking but it can be limited depending on how many people are doing the hike. There are restrooms on site as well. The trail takes you through some beautiful stands of trees and loops around back to the parking area. It's very much worth the time to wander through it!

Blue Lake Casino Hotel is a convenient and centrally located lodging option in Humboldt County, California. It offers free Wi-Fi, an outdoor pool, a casino with slots and table games, as well as dining options such as Alice's Restaurant and Sushi Blue. The hotel is just minutes away from attractions like Chumayo Spa and Azalea State Natural Reserve.
Absolutely Fantastic Stay! We had a wonderful experience at Blue Lake Casino Hotel! The hotel itself is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, but what really stood out was the incredible staff. From the moment we arrived, every team member we interacted with was friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. We had a couple of minor issues during our stay, and the staff resolved them immediately and with a smile. It’s rare to find service this prompt and attentive—they made us feel valued and completely taken care of. Whether it was the front desk, housekeeping, or guest services, everyone went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay. Highly recommend this hotel for both the amenities and the outstanding hospitality!
Marie G — Google review
The rooms were super clean and modern. Good prices. I was disappointed that the casino doesn’t have more food options late into the night, as we arrived late. The desk guy told me to go get chicken at the near by gas station. No thanks. But all in all it was a good jumping off point for the weekend.
Robert B — Google review
The rooms are looking new and refreshed. Beds comfortable. Front desk and hotel staff are helpful. Peaceful and quiet location. Near eureka where we needed to be. There is a casino on site that has lots of slots and table games. Restaurants and food reasonably priced.
Frances C — Google review
Wonderful accommodations!! Comfortable clean rooms. Appreciated extra touches like real glasses and coffee cups! Good food. Clean smoke free casino. All staff very friendly and helpful. Can’t wait for our next visit.
Debbie B — Google review
Nice new rooms but mine looked out on to another building with zero views. The staff were great and the hotel is nice but the casino is small and there isn't much around. The bed was way too soft and the ac unit pumped out stinky air. Fantastic bathroom and shower with top notch water pressure.
Andre E — Google review
Junior SUITE is the way to go! Very pleasant stay on 4th floor. Loved the square footage. Quiet and comfortable. Casino floor was alright! Maybe a little upgrade on machines. Too many old models. Appreciate the non smoking section.
Margaret W — Google review
Beautiful hotel, very clean and a really nice place to spend some time. The casino was on the smallish size, but still fun. The only thing that I think can be better is that the place was sort of hard to find. A bit more signage would help. But otherwise I plan on returning soon, in general it's a gem.
J.B. L — Google review
The staff at the desk on check out, was so kind, my husband was sick, they gave us water, cloths and bags to get sick in! They were so thoughtful and caring! We always love staying there! Thank you so very much! The lady at the front desk was so nice, it I can't remember her name!👏

This place was amazing from booking, to payment. My girlfriend is a massage therapist and is crazy picky about her massages, and this is the first place in Humboldt that she said she'd go back to! Shout out to Leah 😊 I joined for a sauna after and again everything was just so well done. I will be highly be recommending them in the future

We rented the guest quarters for three days and received the full spa treatment. Everything was wonderful. The people are friendly and professional, the facilities are beautiful and well-maintained, and the studio apartment (with skylights and outdoor hot tub) made for a dream vacation. Located in a quiet and friendly town just 5 miles outside of Arcata. We spent the days hiking the redwoods and seeing the coastal towns, and were happy to come "home" to Chumayo. Highly recommended.

First time experiencing the sensory deprivation. After i was able to relax my entire body just released. It helped with my anxiety and it kind of reset my internal clock. For weeks I've been staying up till 3 or 5am. After this experience, ive been to bed by 11 and waking up well rested at a decent hour. The staff is friendly and its a relaxing place.
Unknown S — Google review
Used to love this place. It has gotten pretty run down in the last year. As soon as i walked inside, I found a dog terd on the stairs that leads up to the guest room. Then, the room wasn't very clean. Sticky rings and crumbs on kitchen counter, dirty bathroom floor, used towel wadded up on bathroom shelf, crumbs in the chairs by the window, spots on the mirror, hair in the sink, and funny smell in the room. patio area had clothes and towels from previous guests, hot tub area was really unkempt and dirty. Felt like no one had cleaned in months.
Pam — Google review
I absolutely love this place! The flotation tank is great and fits two people. The staff is always friendly and nice. The environment is clean and peaceful. The masseuses are skilled.

I have been to several spa's in this area and others.... this place takes it. Great body work and excellent packages. Very clean and wonderful customer service! Highly recommend! A hidden gem for sure.

This place is blussful.

Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, located east of Fortuna along State Hwy 36, covers 400 acres and offers riverfront campsites and hiking trails through old-growth redwood groves. The park is a popular destination for camping, hiking, and enjoying the summer sun. Visitors can also explore the nearby Victorian Village of Ferndale, which is known for its well-preserved historic buildings.
Clean, small camping areas. Bear safe storage right next to each campsite so you don't have to worry about your car getting dinged up by the local wildlife. Perfect scenery and lovely night shots! Recommend getting there before sundown if you're camping so you can check in at the ranger station.
Megan P — Google review
We took our son for his first camping trip here. The park rangers were extremely helpful and nice. They had little scavenger hunts for the kids to earn free prizes. The park was very well maintained and easily accessible. The campsites were hit or miss from what we could see. Some looked well spaced from others, while others looked to be really close to one another. Kind of depends which you get. It is very close to hwy 36. Some campsites appeared to be only yards from the road so something to think about if you're planning on going. We were fortunate that our site was close to the creek. Plenty of area to wade down to. It is very rocky but further down more of a sandy beach. We went during Memorial day weekend and all in all very respectful neighbors. Our son definitely wants to go back.
Nicole V — Google review
Pro: sell firewood there at ranger booth, public restrooms, free wifi at ranger station. Con: if leave camp no cell service until eureka area, 1 lane road each way slowed by construction, a few short hiking trails but nothing to see. Shower $0.50/2 minutes
Kevin H — Google review
This campsite is gorgeous. The sites are surrounded by large beautiful redwood trees and the Van Duzen river is close enough to hear from most sites. The river was crystal clear. Pete the State Park ranger lead an awesome fireside talk in the evening about the local wildlife. The bathrooms were clean and the sites had well maintained driveways and fire pits. The only thing that wasn't ideal is that it's close to the road and at night the cars could be loud. I felt like it was worth it.
Missy L — Google review
This was, hands down the best camping experience i ever had. The sites are spacious, the bathrooms were clean, truly the whole park was so well maintained. The rangers were all so nice and helpful, and they walked about often so they were always avaible for questions or to quickly take care of anything that was out of sorts. The reviews about the road being close are true but the trees are huge and ancient, if they haven't been hurt, neither will you. If it is the noise of the traffic you are worried about bring ear plugs, i did but i never used them. I 100 percent want to come back here.
Asher J — Google review
This is a fantastic glamping area. Wife and I think of these places as a cheap hotel without walls. It's a lovely area with clean bathrooms and warm showers. I found the road noise to be nice to fall asleep to. It reminded me of a Miyazaki movie, but I sleep with a fan all year round. In my opinion, some people are too whiny. The staff was kind and helpful. The scenery was stunningly beautiful! My only gripe was driving from Red Bluff to the camp site over 36. That drive was terrifying for me. That road sucks and I was not prepared for it, but we made it. Thank you Grizzly Creek for a lovely week of taking it slow and enjoying the beauty of the redwoods (which was the first time I've ever seen them) 10/10 would stay again and I plan to go back with my kids.
Tony C — Google review
Very pretty and peaceful and easy trails.
Alejandra S — Google review
Stayed at the campground for 4 nights with my daughter. The staff was absolutely wonderful, and the camp host was even better. All sites have a picnic bench, a fire pit, and fire wood is available @ $10/bundle. Some sites are next to the highway, and are ADA accessible

The Willow Creek China Flat Museum, located in Humboldt County, California, is a small yet fascinating history center showcasing the area's logging and mining community. The museum features a Bigfoot exhibit with footprint casts, photos, and sighting information alongside donated items reflecting the region's early activities such as rifles, guns, saws, and baskets. Visitors can also explore local historic displays and enjoy the warm hospitality of the hosts.
This was a great little place to visit, and the owner was great. He took the time to talk with us and answered all our questions. He was friendly as well as knowledgeable.
Todd A — Google review
Interesting facts, pictures and lots of different kinds of information, not just about big foot. The staff is great and very welcoming
Holly F — Google review
Interesting stop if you’re passing through. We came here on a Wed while in the area. Note that they’re closed on Mon and Tue. There is an interesting collection of local history and a separate room dedicated for Bigfoot information, print casts and photos. For a small town whose logging industry has been declining, Bigfoot is probably the only thing keeping the town alive. Staff was friendly and shared brief history of the town. Supposedly a small place that attracts retirees. Regardless if you’re a believer of Bigfoot or not, it is worth a stop to indulge in the lore.
Eric L — Google review
Very nice museum with a ton of information about the town, the region and Bigfoot himself!! Had a great time taking pictures and reading all the history.
Dan V — Google review

Thomas — Google review
Nice stop for info that turned into over an hour looking around at all the historical pieces they had. Laid out very nicely had a side wing of all bigfoot info. Some good info on bigfoot like the maps in the pics, news articles and plaster foot casts. The nice lady that was running the center was super friendly and fun to talk with. Definitely worth stopping by if you get in the area.

We visited this place because of the Bigfoot display. It's great fun! There are other local historic things that fascinate. My dad was born nearby and it was interesting to see displays of things he and others had talked of when I was younger. Small, worth the trip. Hope to visit when they have the blacksmith and other reenactments.

6 Rivers Rafting

Raft trip outfitter

River Rafting & Tubing
At the tail end of the rafting season, you never know what you’re going to get (low water closure, not enough people to go out, etc), but we knew this was worth a try. I’m so happy we booked this rafting trip! Pete is a guide extraordinaire using his 26 years guiding experience to give guests a safe, fun, and exciting adventure. Pete suited us up for the autumn cold weather and had us right out at his private launch site. Easy peasy. Full day on the Trinity River with a little hike, delicious lunch, wildlife, and plenty of whitewater action. Whether you’re an experienced rafter (like my husband) or this is your first trip (like me), it’s packed with a good time on the river. Thanks, Pete! Until we meet again.
Desiree A — Google review
Loved our adventure with Six Rivers Rafting this past weekend. Our guide, Grace, was so kind, informative and fun! We saw a turtle, an osprey, and lots of ducks. The snacks were delicious and homemade salsa was phenomenal! Our photos were some actions shots to cherish, and I appreciate having those as a mom who is usually the one behind the camera! After doing the class 2-3 rapids with my husband and 12 year old son, we feel ready to take on some class 4, we had so much fun we couldn’t get enough! Looking forward to our son doing their Jr. Guide training summer camp next summer!
Sara S — Google review
Took the family rafting and we had the very best time. Grace was our guide and she was absolutely amazing. She was the best teacher, told us everything we needed to know, taught us about the river itself, took us on a hike, took us to the best jumping rocks, made us lunch. By the end of the trip, she felt like part of our family. Thank you Grace. I hope you are there again next season when we come again.
B G — Google review
Our family of five had the best time out on the water with Pete! I was a bit nervous going into this and Pete’s expertise and experience with working with families had me relaxing in no time. We will definitely return next time we make it back to that part of the country. His wife also took the best pics of our fun and we love having these as a reminder until we can go back! Thanks again for a great time! Highly recommend if you want some adventure on your next trip.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ PETE: The Dude of the River ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If Jeff Bridges ever decided to trade his White Russian for a paddle and channel *The Dude* into a whitewater rafting guide, you’d get Pete from 6 Rivers Rafting. We booked a trip for my friend’s 30th birthday, thinking it would be a relaxing river float with maybe a few splashes. What we *actually* got was a full-blown river adventure/comedy show/survival course—all led by the most laid-back, hilarious, river-loving human this side of Humboldt County. From the jump, Pete made safety a priority (which, frankly, was needed because we are not a subtle group—more like 10 caffeinated golden retrievers in helmets). But he did it all with humor, confidence, and enough charm to make you trust him with your life and your lunch. He cracked jokes, told river lore, guided us through rapids like a Zen master, and somehow kept everyone in the raft *and* in stitches. At one point I laughed so hard I nearly fell overboard—Pete didn’t even flinch. The man is unflappable. And cooler than a Yeti on a glacier. It’s obvious Pete genuinely *loves* these rivers. He knows every bend, rock, and hidden gem in Humboldt County like they’re old friends. The way he talks about the land and the water—it’s not just a job to him, it’s a calling. So if you’re looking for a rafting trip with thrills, laughs, and a guide who channels *The Dude* but with a life vest and a paddle, look no further. Pete abides. And we highly recommend you let him guide you down the wild side of Humboldt. 11/10 — would follow this man into the splash zone again and again. 🛶😂🌲

We had an amazing time with 6Rivers Rafting! The guides were professional, fun, and so helpful throughout the trip. I highly recommend the full day with them, the cliff jumps, hike, and lunch were all amazing. Thanks to our guide Haylee for the awesome day 🤙

My experience with six rivers rafting was INCREDIBLE. They were communicative right from the beginning and were there to answer any questions we had. They provided tents, sleeping pads and sleeping bags. The food was absolutely amazing and I’m still craving their salmon and veggies weeks later. Our guides felt like family afterwards. I booked them for a work filmmaking trip and will now be going back to them for fun personal experiences. TRULY THE BEST.

Wiley was the best guide! We had a fantastic time and could not have asked for a better experience. The half day was perfect and the jump rocks were so cool! What a great addition to the day. Thanks for the snacks, too!

Renegade 35ft - early May - Site G pull thru - we were about the only ones there. Very quiet. Nice area & park. Online reservations showed nothing for us. Called and left a message. Jason immediately called back and told us he had a pull-thru for us. Site was secluded & great. Used Starlink. One small road into the park. Getting out was a little tight but manageable. We camped at Del Loma RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

We came here pretty last minute on a Sunday night during off season. The person who greeted us was so friendly and helpful. She made us feel very welcome despite our late arrival. We were informed we were the only ones in the whole park, which was fine by us. The park was kept clean, the restrooms/showers were well maintained and had plenty of hot water. Our RV spot was close to the river and we had a clearing to walk to a path to get to the river. It rained the whole time we were there but becuaee odnthe vast vegetation, we walked around very comfortably without getting drenched. We wished we could have stayed longer. Next time, we will.

We were here for 1 night in early October. This campground doesn’t appear to be well-maintained at all, it seemed to be mainly full-timers, and overall a bit ˋsketchy’. We were in site O, which at first seemed great because the map showed us right along the river, however there were conflicting signs how to get to it. We eventually found the trail, but the river was disappointing was not worth the effort. Site 0 was small (we were in a 25ft motorhome) but adequate. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Beautiful area. Roads are clear; campsites are level; trash is collected regularly. Park is unkempt and needs TLC. Bathrooms are outdated with torn off towel hooks. Store was not open at posted hours. Spider webs on chairs and tables.

We stayed here as an emergency stop after some car trouble. We were super grateful this place existed and we were able to stay here, but if we had booked this place and been looking forward to staying here, I think we would've been disappointed a little bit. Our campsite was incredibly close to the others around us. There was only one other tent camping group and they were a couple sites away so everything was fine, but if each site was booked then we would've been overcrowded. There were showers, the ones we saw were broken and there was a note to use the showers in a different part of the resort. There was a laundry room available which was nice but we didn't use it. Overall this would've been a wonderful place to stay if we had been in an RV or camper van, but tent camping here wasn't ideal. We stayed in Site A.

Wow, just returned to Del Loma after 3 years and just after the new owners took over. What a transformation. Great venue for our family reunion. Impressed by all the improvements and activities for all ages of the family. Kids had a great time in the pool, disc golf, mini golf. Fun campfires and a super sense of community. My wife and I found the improvements to the cabins charming. Location on the river is superb. Cannot say enough good things. Loved it!!!

We had a fantastic time rafting Trinity with our guide Aaron! We went on Monday so we had the pleasure of rafting just with my family of 4. Lunch was delicious, we had deli sandwich wraps, veggies, fruit and snacks. Aaron was friendly and safe and we had a lot of fun going down the rapids.

The guides were skilled and the excursion was so much fun! The river was flowing pretty fast when we went and we really enjoyed the brisk water. We hit some pretty big drops down the rapids and had fun getting tossed off the raft. We stopped in the middle of the trip to hike up to a waterfall then continued our river cruise! A fun crew and safe company to go with!

First time rafting and it was better than expected. Knowledgeable and fun staff. Safety and ensuring a memorable experience always felt like a priority. Cannot wait to go again!

Family owned and operated. Expert guides who go way above and beyond to make sure you'll have a great adventure (with safety being their first priority). You can pay more for a bigger operation and a less personal experience or you can choose Redwoods and Rivers Rafting. We are a family of four...mom, dad, our two sons aged 9 and 16. Everyone had a blast!! Highly recommend this rafting crew!!

Our family had a full day rafting trip with Redwoods and Rivers. It was a blast! We were in great hands all day, the equipment was perfect for us, the rapids were exhilarating and we even stopped for a beautiful scenic hike! We are already talking about going again. Thanks for making our day on the river spectacular!

Redwoods and Rivers is amazing!! The guides were knowledgeable and relaxed but safety conscientious which put everyone at ease. They stopped at swimming holes so we could jump from boulders and they made a really delicious lunch. 10/10 would recommend!!

This was the most amazing experience!!! My husband and I went out for our first time rafting and we were in the best hands. Top notch guides, equipment, the day flowed so well with a great stop for lunch as well. Aaron and the crew did an amazing job with all of the kids and their parents as well. Definitely recommending to all friends and family! Thank you for creating a core memory for us ❤️

We had such a good time yesterday on the river with our guide Matt. Everyone was a lot of fun, easing our worries (this was our first time so we were all a bit nervous) with jokes and good vibes. This is a fun group of people! Matt was great with my 9yo son, and had the chillest coolest attitude of “this is your day, I’m on your schedule”. The river was gorgeous, birds, turtles, fish, oh my! We will definitely be back. Thank you! I also want to add that these guys had all the good vibes and attitude even while a looming forest fire was heading their direction. We are sending all the good vibes right back atcha guys!🙏🏽 Be well! Stay safe!

I was very fortunate to be invited to one of my besties family camp outs and boy was it fun! I was terrified! This was my first time since a child that I was going to be white water rafting . BILL was our guide and he was absolutely amazing ! He really outshined the other guides by his approach to the water! He was calm, kind and very knowledgeable about native birds, muscles in the water, and all around nature ! He kept us safe and now I feel like this is something I want to do again and again! Quick drive up the road and a couple hours in the water was sooo fun! This is a must for all scary cats because this will change your mind !! Do it!!! Would not go rafting w/Trinity river rafting again. We did not have as much fun as we have in the past when rafting. We go rafting to have a good time n have our guides be knowledgeable, keep us safe, n not be so uptight about everything! When letting their management team know they pretty much disregarded our concern which is the saddest part.

I just finished my full day excursion and I have to say this was the BEST time I've had in a long time! Dana helped me over the phone because I am a solo traveler and online would only book a minimum of two! She was so sweet and accommodating (and she has funny jokes!) haha! Nick was our guide and not only was he knowledgeable, he was a BLAST to have around! We were practically laughing all day and just enjoying life! We wore masks on the river, safety is definitely top priority for this company so I trust them with my life LMAO! I will be coming back sooner than later so that I can have another day of fun!! Also the photographers who take your photos on the side are awesome!! Buy the photos because they are sooooo worth it! (that and get a waterproof phone case from them if it's still in stock!)

I can't recommend this company enough! I'd give them 10 stars if I could, they were that good. We were able to book super last minute, after business hours the evening before we wanted to go, they were super friendly and accommodating over the phone, made it all very easy. The rafting itself was absolutely amazing. The guide, Mike, was a blast, had us laughing and joking the whole way. The views were stunning, the water was perfect and refreshing on a hot day, and the rapids were not too overwhelming for a complete novice. All in all it was just a great experience and I will be telling everyone I know about it and plan to bring all my friends and family to try it as well. If you want to raft the river, this is the company to go with, you will not be disappointed!

I'm all the way in Gladewater, TX, and just finished watching Peter Santenello's whole YouTube video. It was awesome, and I really want to visit! You've built such a beautiful community! Keep up the great work and lifestyle!

A unique location and experience. The full bar is exceptionally clean and a great stop for beverages and snacks. Powered 100% on solar. Truly beautiful location. A magnificent drive in and out along the river in both directions. There is a gas station here which is probably well needed. The owners are cool and there are wild horses roaming the place. If you have a Harley Davidson this is a go to destination bar at the end of your ride. If in doubt for opening hours or if you have a group call ahead and they will likely open up just for you. Great historic location from the 19th century mining era. So much to explore and discover in all directions.

Dude who owns the place was chilling outside with his rifle next to him, waiting for customers. Very nice guy who gets to run the bar when and how he wants. They don't take cards but do have wifi and accept venmo. Very cool feeling establishment. This is a very remote place like nowhere else around. Only wifi within 40 miles!

I’m from Scotland and spent 3 months working on the Lor-O Ranch back in 1981. This places was known as Snipes Resort back then. In the summer season there were guests visiting the ranch, and hunters in deer season, and we’d make a point of having them down here on a Friday night before heading back to LA on the Saturday. Other adventures in the week included gold dredging in the Salmon River and pack trains up to Rush Lake for camping and fishing. But everyone always remembered their night at Snipes Resort 😀

Very unique stopping spot. The owner, friends, and locals put a lot of time and thought into the construction and decorations. Everything hanging in the bar has it's own story......Love that despite being off grid, the saloon has all the comforts because of the thought and care put into the solar system. Being self employed, We feel that it's important to stop and spend a few bucks at every back country establishment to help ensure they will still be there providing those essential services next time through. The couple of hours we spent there relaxing just made the afternoon! Well done guys!

I started collecting Greg's pottery since the late 80's. Back then I couldn't afford to buy everything at once..lol but I decided everytime I went salmon fishing I would stop at Olsen Pottery. Today I have a 12 piece dinner set, vases, pie pans, coffee mugs and so much more. The quality is excellent and something that's hard to find these days. I'll be stopping by in a few weeks to see what's new in his shop. Greg has also done custom orders for me as well. Stop by on your way through Weaverville. This place is a hidden 💎

I have lost track of time but I would guess that our family has been been buying from Olson’s for nearly 15 years. It started as an annual gift from my grandma to my parents and has since spread into my household. We have had many custom pieces made and all of them have turned out better than expected. Someone commented that these are high priced but high quality. My comment to that is that price is irrelevant when buying quality products! We are not gentle with our products and the only piece that has broken is my wife’s beloved “mom” coffee mug. We are on the third rendition now due to young flailing child hands :). Highly recommend Olson’s and will definitely be buying more throughout the years.

We own many of the available prices from Olsons. There all Beautiful handcrafted life long works of art worthy of passing down from generation to generation. Working with the Olson family and their staff is also always a treat down to earth they love their customers and are so willing to serve and be creative with unique projects... like a 10 year anniversary gift. For me that was a set of mugs with the names of every member of our household that all hanging on a rack in our kitchen to remind us that we’re all family life is full and we’re all together. Thank you Greg and family.

So much to browse! Prices are high, but the products seem to be of a high quality as well. A great place to get a one of a kind gift or souvenir. The selection of kids games and books is very good, and had a lot of unique things that I haven't seen elsewhere. The history of the place is interesting too. Plan to take your time to take in all the products in their relatively small space.

It has been my dream to have a full set of dishes from Olsen’s since I was a child. I recently made that dream happen. I am in love with my dishes. Each piece is unique and beautifully hand crafted.

Now this! is keepsake quality. When you want something that will call to mind the season of life you were in or the one who gave it as a gift... shop here. Whether you are on a journey up the coast, or surfing online ... stop here. This is were generations of the pottery tradition are still celebrated. The techniques used require the skill of a master craftsman to produce functional ware that bring beauty and longevity to your table. Translation: you don't need to be afraid to use it and enjoy it! We'll be back for more.

Trinity Theatre

This should be a 6 star rated theater in a very small town. It obviously doesn't make a large income. Whoever owns and runs this theater is doing it for the joy of having it available for the people of Weaverville. 1st run movies!!! So thankful it's here! Be grateful and support it.
Rick S — Google review
Nice old theater. Good prices and not overly crowded. Not much elbow room, but we enjoyed the movie and candy. Parked along the side of the building because I don't parallel park. Wasn't far to walk inside. My family will go again.

This place is a quaint little theater. If you have never been, you should. Its a good experience with friendly help. Probably the majority of the time there will only be a handful of people in there, almost a private showing. If you are over six foot you should sit near the end of the row or by the railing. Leg room is limited. Sound and picture were great. Prices are always steep at theaters. Enjoy the show!!

Really love this theater! An old school experience with modern technology. This is more than just a movie experience. My kids are growing up going to a theater their kids will one day marvel at.
Parrie — Google review
I love this old time movie theater. If you live in #Redding or any where close to #Weaverville you owe it to yourself to visit this classic historic theater to see #NEWMOVIES The sound system and projector are all updated so the only thing historic are you surroundings. Make sure you eat before you go bc the snack bar is sparse. They offer pop corn, drinks, and some candy and that's it. I have begged them to at least offer micro waveable snacks that are pre packaged as I understand it can be pricey to send every employee to safe serve classes but they have no interest in improving in this area. It's cool. I still appreciate this little Mom and Pop theater. It has to be one if the very few remaining in #California

Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park

Mentioned on
1 list
State park
Sights & Landmarks
Weaverville Joss House State Historic Park is a hidden gem that offers a glimpse into the rich history of the Chinese community in Northern California. The temple, dating back to 1874, is adorned with 150-year-old donation ledgers and intricate lantern illustrations that tell stories from over a millennium ago. Visitors can experience the cultural significance of the temple through guided tours and immerse themselves in its still-active ambiance, complete with the fragrance of burning joss sticks.
Have a great time during the guided tour. Our guide is fun, knowledgeable and kind. Bring back so much memory when visiting this temple. Every illustration on the lantern is telling a story. One illustration is dating back 1200 years ago in Tang Dynasty. Do not feel like visiting a historic, distant-in-the-past building but feel connected and familiar, even it was built almost 150 years ago. Partly because the temple is still in use. Can smell the fragrance of joss sticks when entering the temple. Most Chinese characters (words) shown on banners and posters in the temple are written beautifully in calligraphy, an art requiring years of training and using writing brush and ink. Really impressed and overwhelmed by the cultural demonstrations in this temple.
Chih-Ping W — Google review
We enjoyed our visit. Interesting place. You have to be part of a tour to see inside the Joss House but fortunately they showed us around though we got there at 1:15 and the official afternoon tour time had been 1pm.
Joanne S — Google review
Did the guided tour, the guide was a wealth of information. Beautiful building! Guided tours are 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Well worth it!
D W — Google review
Parts of the temple were made in china and shipped, first to San Francisco then to Red Bluff all via boat/ship. But the last 85 or so miles were by cart, mostly likely pulled by a working animal taking about seven days. Now the Victorian mansions in Red Bluff make a lot more sense.
Patrick F — Google review
A highly recommended place to visit. Learning about Chinese immigrants to the US during Gold Rush. The guided tour is worth every pennies with a bonus of using the ticket to visit Shasta Historic Museum for free.

Beautiful place with gorgeous architecture, and a wonderful knowledgeable staff. I've been going since I was a kid, and it's always a peaceful building to tour.
Sierra L — Google review
It was neat and had a lot of historical information specific to the chinese miners. It was a small temple with an interesting speech about things. Fun way to kill a little time in Weaverville
Teresa P — Google review
The Weaverville Joss House is the oldest continually-operating Chinese temple in California. Joss House opened its doors in 1874. State park historian Jack Frost says the word "Joss" is a name the Portuguese gave Chinese Taoist temples. California has many historic Joss Houses, but what makes the Weaverville Joss house the oldest temple is shipping records found on the shrine. It was made in Canton, China and shipped to San Francisco in 1873. Brought up the Sacramento River by riverboat. The gold rush of 1849--then the construction of the transcontinental railroad in the 1880s--brought Chinese immigrants by the thousands to California, but a number of those Chinese moved to Weaverville because it was safer. That's not to say racism and hate didn't find its way into Weaverville. During Mao's Cultural Revolution of the 1960s and 70s, many of China's cultural artifacts were destroyed. As a result, the Weaverville Joss House is home to important items from China's past that can't be found elsewhere. It's still an active place to worship. Every week that I work here, I have Chinese visitors.

Jake Jackson Museum

Museum
Specialty Museums
Stopped by this small museum on our way back from Trinidad to Redding. Needed to stretch our legs after the long windy mountain drive ;-) We had pulled over in front of the Jake Jackson Museum. Decided to check it out. Wow, what a great find. We spent over an hour inside! So many great artifacts/fossils/old instruments and the people running the museum are wonderful. My wife asked about the headwaters of the Trinity River. She was directed to the town historian - a nice, knowledgeable person (she thinks his name was Mr. May) that spent 45 minutes going over maps and a few books telling her a lot of the history of Weaverville, the Trinity Alps and the Trinity River. I explored all the exhibits! Some really great displays of old miners tools, old medical equipment, shotguns, various instruments - far to many to describe here. It doesn’t look like much on the outside - and is not real big on the inside - but it is packed with tons of local historic information. If your passing through Weaverville and have some time - don’t miss this place! BTW, it’s free - but there is a small donation box.
John G — Google review
A great little museum, and one of the best small town museums I've been to. The majority of its exhibits follow the history of the town from its roots as a mining community until the early 20th Century, with many rifles, mining equipment, antiques, and old machinery on display. They also have a ton of artifacts from the local Native Americans and the 19th Century Chinese miners, as well as a few display cases dedicated to local businesses and organizations, such as the Masons. Besides the artifacts, the museum contains a ton of great information, mostly contained in large rotating racks alongside most of the display cases. Beyond the main space, there is an archive in the next room, a downstairs that contains many old pianos and other large artifacts, and two yards on the grounds outside that hold many of the old mining artifacts and equipment. Overall, this place is definitely worth a stop while you're in Weaverville, especially since the Joss House remains closed due to COVID as of June 2021. Definitely recommend.
J. T — Google review
This museum gave a good feel for the way of life for both early american pioneers and Chinese immigrants who established the city that exists today. There was a broad exhibit of artifacts including tools for gold mining, rocks representing the geology of the area, tincture bottles, clothes, medical devices, firefighter tools, photos of local citizens through the town's history, musical instruments (mostly pianos), a relocated jail cell, and more.
Mark J — Google review

Very cool place to visit on our way to the coast. Love seeing the black smiths at work. Super impressive! It was fun to explore the area and learn about its history.
Felicia K — Google review
By far one of the best free museums I have visited throughout the country! Donations are appreciated but not required, but I was more than happy to leave one from the variety and unique items on display! Most small town museums have generic antiques and relics on display, but this museum has so much more, from an entire telegraph pole from the 1850s, to the original jail cells from the courthouse basement complete with art from inmates; and from weapons and clothing from famous robberies, to relics from the Great Chinese War of 1854 in Weaverville! The amount of history and education provided from this museum rivals some state and national museums! Truly a must-see when visiting Weaverville, or definitely worth the drive if visiting Redding, CA!

This place is super cute inside and out. They always have new art coming in, so there's always something new to see. Definitely, a place to stop by and check out if you're in Weaverville. And their cute pathways through the garden is also a nice place to sit and enjoy the view of the surroundings.

Impressive collection of local artists represented in this adorable building. Sometimes they offer exhibition themes out to the community, which gives a common thread to each piece, even in different mediums. Makes for more thought provoking exhibits! Weaverville (Trinity County!) is chock FULL of incredibly talented artists. Highland Arts Center does an excellent job of showcasing them. A point of interest on The Emerald Trail app's innaugural route!

Very fun stop in Weaverville! The staff were kind and welcoming. Younger kids are welcome, and the staff didn't seem concerned about them. There are definitely things on their eye level, and you'll want to watch them closely! The variety of styles and mediums of art on display when we stopped was very commendable, especially for the size and area. This was a second stop for us, and I will plan to stop again the next time I'm around.

Absolutely beautiful location with incredible views! Wine maker is very nice and knowledgeable. He gave us a tour and we did a tasting. The Blaufrankisch was a new varietal that we had never tried before and it was very good. Highly recommend making the trip out there!

Beautiful location and some of the best wine anywhere with extremely reasonable pricing. Leah took good care of us. We will enjoy coming back again!

Million dollar views. Keith is a win making master. Don't go expecting pristine buildings. They have a lot of "character".

I recently had the pleasure of renting out Alpen Cellars, a beautiful winery nestled in a stunning Trinity County, for a party, and it was an experience to remember. The picturesque vineyard, coupled with the serene ambiance, made it the perfect setting for a wonderful and romantic getaway. The winery itself is breathtaking, with lush grapevines stretching as far as the eye can see and a charming rustic elegance that permeates the entire property. The staff at Alpen Cellars went above and beyond to ensure that our party was a success, providing exceptional service and making us feel welcome and cared for throughout our stay. After the festivities, we retired to their glamping tents, which added a unique and adventurous touch to our experience. The tents were well-appointed and offered all the comforts of home while allowing us to stay connected with nature. Falling asleep with creature comforts while waking up to the gentle sounds of nature was truly magical. We also rented out the campground, which provided a private and cozy space for our group. The campground was well-maintained and offered amenities that made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. It was the perfect setting for intimate gatherings around the campfire, sharing stories, and creating lasting memories. Overall, our experience at Alpen Cellars was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of the stunning winery, luxurious glamping tents, and charming campground created a wonderful and romantic atmosphere that we will cherish forever. If you are looking for a unique and unforgettable getaway, I highly recommend Alpen Cellars.

Stayed here for the 4th of july with some buddies, the swimming hole was awesome and the wine was good. The lake is about a 20 minute drive. only downside was no cell service and the campfire barrel was pretty small. Had a great time and the owner is very kind! I highly recommend coming here.

Gorgeous setting for a winery. They had a good selection of wines and all were exceptional. The employees were very personable too and lovely to talk with. Had a lovely tasting. The kids even had fun running in the grass and playing on the swings.

We have been going here once a year (while camping for a week in Trinity), for 12+ years. We bring cheese and crackers to have while tasting. It's our favorite place to visit. The owner, Keith, wife and family are very nice and wonderful people.

Good leg burner up to the falls. And just beautiful!
Heather C — Google review
As far as hikes go this one is ok. Its not that there is anything wrong with it per say, just that it is on the boring side. There is not much to see on the way in to the waterfall. This is one of the better looking waterfalls once you are there and the approach is from the lower falls all the way up to the top falls is worth the hike. It is mostly uphill on the way in so headed back out is quite a bit faster. This review is just for the Falls portion of the hike that is 1.5 miles long.
Ryan V — Google review
It was quite a drive to get to the trail and then a bit of a trek to the falls. But very much worth the climb. The falls were beautiful, even in the middle of summer. I highly recommend going to see these and keep climbing till you get to the double falls. They are gorgeous.
Sonia M — Google review
Super easy walk on paved trail to a beautiful little waterfall!
Searcy M — Google review
Do yourself a favor and drive ALL THE WAY UP. Then do your 3 mile hike to the falls. Caution: very windy, narrow roads. You WILL think you've gone too far in the wrong direction, but keep going up. The trail itself gets wet from the falls, and is definitely not for novices or those with no agility - think climbing over slippery rocks. Definitely worth it in the end....

Whiskeytown Lake is a stunning body of water surrounded by magnificent mountains, creeks and waterfalls. It offers a plethora of activities such as boating, fishing and swimming. Camping at this location requires a permit, but there are many other areas to stop in for visitors who wish to do so at their own risk. Visitors are strongly urged to keep the place tidy. Swimming or kayaking in the lake is an amazing experience because the water temperature is just right and the scenery is breathtaking.
The water is warmer the the other nearby lakes and the lake is big enough that, if you look, you can find a secluded place to hang out. We camp at oak bottom every year before the crowds of summer

We love Whismeytown. There are so many locations on this lake to take your family to find a spot to day-chill if you don’t rent a Pontoon to enjoy the lake. The water is clean the views are breathtaking.

Visited the lake in early August, drove right off of Hwy 299, and was able to access the water very easily. The water was clear and the perfect temperature. I wasn’t able to detour to much off my route but I am sure you can find places and beaches with handicap parking and access to the water.

Whiskeytown lake is the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. It is so peaceful there and hard to take your eyes off of every inch of the area. Everywhere you turn there there's something amazing to be discovered. The lookout point by The visitors center is also a great place to see how much already of the lake from one location. from what I understand there are tons of different locations to visit there at the lake that offer different views and scenes. There is a little bit of walking and order to get close to the lake but nothing unreasonable. I highly suggest visiting this specific lake. It would be a shame if anyone had come to Shasta County and did not take a trip to this location. The locals and travelers that have visited here have always had the same reaction of complete awe. Great place for kids as well and it is perfect for hot summer days. I often see people reading books by the lake as well as swimming. Just thinking about it makes me want to go there right now. Is very peaceful and quiet so whatever you looking for I can guarantee you this has something to offer. Be sure to charge your phone because you'll be taking lots of photos and bring food with you as there are not many places around there to grab a bite to eat.

During my recent visit to Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, I was truly impressed by the beauty. I recommend starting at the Visitor Center where the knowledgeable staff provide excellent explanations and help you get a map of the area. The park features stunning attractions including a whiskey town lake, the Kennedy Memorial, a serene waterfall, Powerhouse where u can relax, Tower house hotel, various trails, and water activities. The park pass costs $25 for a private vehicle, but it’s free if you have an America the Beautiful pass. Clean bathroom. I didn't get to spend enough time here, but the lake is obviously the highlight. Great place to enjoy the water. Also, some decent trails, waterfalls, campgrounds, marinas, and history as well. The Only Reason Anyone Can Go To Heaven, Be Forgiven Of Their Sins, And Saved From their sins By God Is Because God, Out Of Love, Sent Jesus, Who Was Sinless, Lived A Perfect Life, Which Means He Was Able To Fulfill All Of God’s Commands, And Died For our sins, We are saved from our sins (it’s consequences meaning God’s Wrath And hell, as well as sin’s power over us) and can get to heaven Only Because Of Jesus’ Perfect Life (Fulfillment Of God’s Commands) And Sacrifice For our sins On The Cross. Jesus said " I Am The Way The Truth And The Life. No one comes To The Father except through Me." and "I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I Am He you will die in your sins" just spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ He's The Only Way to be saved from eternal damnation in hell please read. God is perfectly righteous and holy, and all of us have sinned and fall short of His Glory. Even if we don't see ourselves as that sinful, in God's eyes, any sin is unacceptable. We have all sinned greatly and cannot meet God's Commandments. The Bible, God’s Word, Lists God’s Commandments In Exodus 20:2-17. Our “Good” deeds, that are not Truly Good and that are stained by our sin, can't justify us before a holy God. There Must Be A Punishment. That Punishment Is Eternal Wrath And Judgement In hell. We are all Justly Deserving Of God’s Wrath And Eternal Torment. But God, Out Of Love Sent Down His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus came and took our place-He lived a sinless life, fulfilled the prophecies in the old testament, and took the punishment we deserve on the cross so we could be made right with God when we repent, which is a turning from your sin, and put our faith in Jesus and what He did alone, His Perfect Obedience To God’s Commandments, The Law Of God, And His Perfect Sacrifice Alone As Fully Enough To Save us From God’s Wrath In hell, not in our deeds, Repentance And Faith Are A Gift If The Holy Spirit, They Are Not The Basis Of our salvation, Only Jesus’ Perfect Fulfillment Of God’s Commandments And Sacrifice For our sins Is. We're united To Jesus By Faith, Which Is How our sins were punished In Him, And How His Righteousness And Obedience Is Accredited To us. Both God’s Mercy And Justice Is Displayed. When we put our faith in Jesus, That Is The Work Of The Holy Spirit In us, And The Spirit Changes us To Become More Holy; so if you claim to believe but are regularly sinning without remorse, it's a sign your faith isn't genuine. Join a local Church for discipleship and get council on baptism, if you live near Houston/ katy I recommend Cornerstone Presbyterian Church Or Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Shasta State Historic Park offers a fascinating glimpse into the past, allowing visitors to step back in time to the Gold Rush era. As you wander through the park, reading the signs and exploring the remnants of this once-thriving town, you gain a deeper understanding of our rich history. While it may not be a sprawling attraction, Shasta State Historic Park is well worth a stop if you're in the area. It's a chance to learn about the hardships and triumphs of those who lived during the Gold Rush, and to appreciate the legacy they left behind. Overall, visiting Shasta State Historic Park is a rewarding experience that sheds light on an important chapter in our history. Don't miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the stories of the past and gain a newfound appreciation for the pioneers who shaped our world.

Not much is left of Shasta. But the museum and ruins are interesting to see. Because it is so small I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit. But if you are nearby it is definitely worth visiting. The entry to the museum is 3 dollars for an adult. The buildings are free to see for everyone

This place was an awesome find! The museum was filled with a wealth of information and was a glimpse into a time in history nearly forgotten by many. The relics were hauntingly beautiful. Sundial Bridge is a stunning architectural gem that gracefully spans the Sacramento River, designed by the renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. This pedestrian bridge not only serves as a vital link between Turtle Bay Exploration Park's museum and its beautiful Arboretum and Gardens but also acts as a gateway to Redding’s expansive Sacramento River National Recreation Trail.
This place was very cool! We've got to go back when we have more time. Parking is free, which is great and there is plenty of it. The park is huge... there are electric scooters and bikes you can rent to ride around. There were a lot of people just on leisurely evening strolls. My wife and I went by the lake and just sat for a few after taking our time across the bridge. It was an absolutely beautiful view on both sides. There were kayakers and tubers on the river. It was also doggy walking hour 🤭 Plenty of furry friends enjoying a stroll. Very peaceful place. There apparently is a restaurant on site as well but we went too late. 😣 next time !

Beautiful place to just sit and relax. The river flowing below has a wide bank and feels magical with the water stream resembling raindrops on the surface. It's pretty cool on a summer evening. Lots of people (not overcrowded) and friendly families around. The car park is extremely close, so it's not much of a hassle to walk it up.

Do visit this place if you visit Redding. The whole bridge is lit up at night making it a surreal experience. They also have bikes and scooters that you can rent. Bike rentals felt cheaper than the scooters. Many scenic trails besides the river. So take your time and have fun exploring the place. Sunday they had the farmers market setup.

The nearby museum and park make it even better, offering both fun and learning opportunities. A wonderful place for a family outing. After parking there is a nice river and picnic area as well but it’s not clean space while I visited, this area isn’t connected to the bridge so not to worry!

The Redding Sundial Bridge is a magnificent engineering masterpiece. It is the largest working sundial in the world that is most accurate during the solstices and its shadow accurately tracks time daily from approximately 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM. The Sundial Bridge was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The walkway has stunning views of the Sacramento River with all its wildlife and spectacular scenic views of the mountains.
Simona V — Google review
Very beautiful bridge day and nite. The only down side was there isn't much other things to do around, which makes our driving distance of about 4 hours each way not really worth it. I'd say it's a great attraction if you live closer or if you are on the way to somewhere else on a road trip, or here for hiking or rafting. The hotel right next to it is not worth it's value. I would recommend to stay a little further and save some money. The only value of it was the walking distance to the bridge. (Star did not deduct for this cause the main review was for the attraction)

A Magical Night at Glowing Wild – Redding’s Radiant Hidden Gem If you’re looking for a night of wonder, beauty, and unforgettable memories in Redding, look no further than Glowing Wild. This lantern festival is unlike anything else in Northern California—an awe-inspiring blend of art, nature, and light that feels straight out of a fairytale. From the moment you step through the entrance, you're transported into a dreamlike world filled with giant illuminated sculptures. Towering tigers, graceful dolphins, luminous butterflies, and glowing floral arches line the walking paths, each more breathtaking than the last. The iconic Sundial Bridge lit up in the background only adds to the surreal beauty.

What a fun family trip!! We are from southern Oregon and decided to check out Redding for the first time, with this being our first stop… and it did NOT disappoint!!! Everybody had an amazing time, my daughter is 12 and my son is 5 and both of them said that it was the best day. Beautiful well maintained landscaping and animal enclosures, extremely friendly staff. Tons of free giveaway stuff, perfect entertainment for the little ones! You can feed parrots - so fun! And during season you can go inside the butterfly house. It was extremely hot and humid when we went, it would have been nice if they had misters along the walkway/benches but other than that, such a fun memorable experience and we will definitely be back!!! Highly recommend

The park is 5 stars easy, very beautiful area, the museum I would give 3.5. It's interesting, not too big but I liked the birds and was there was a Steam Punk exhibit which was nice. The remaining areas were nice but somewhat limited. Some of the animals are in rather small enclosures. It's a bit expensive for a family visiting and maybe getting a souvenir or two. Older kids may get bored after an hour and for $22 each it would not be worth it. I recommend going to the park, hiking, enjoying the bridge, nature, and the many wild animals you can find in the park. I saw deer and a skunk among other things.

This experience was amazing. There are so many things to do included in the admission fee. Our favorites were the dinosaur exhibit, butterfly house, and the bird house. Aside from the favorites everything else was great also. Something fun is that most of the exhibits have things for kids to touch. Hands on learning is when my daughter has the most fun so I appreciated this experience.

This place was amazing! Outdoor play areas and shows teaching kids about the wildlife in the park and within the area. The highlight for my kids were the butterfly conservatory and the parrot house - the kids got to look at both close up and really enjoyed identifying the different types. The train was also fun, and takes you over the Sundial bridge, which is beautiful! There's plenty of parking and the staff were really friendly and helpful. All in all, a good full day of fun with the kids :)

Our family — and truly the whole community — benefits so much from this beautiful water park in Redding, CA. We don’t say it enough, but we’re incredibly thankful for the team who takes on the big responsibility of running this place, especially with so many people coming from all over. They absolutely deserve a 5-star review. That said, I do hope they’ll consider improving the process for ride height checks, especially during long wait times. Today, after waiting in line, our son — who has enjoyed this ride many times — was told he couldn’t go due to his height. Meanwhile, his friend, who is the same height, was allowed through. I typically don’t speak up, but in this case, it felt necessary to advocate for fairness. Our son handled it well, but it was hard to watch. In the end, I stepped in and thankfully, he was able to ride. I share this only in hopes that it might help improve the experience for other kids and families in the future. We’re still deeply grateful for all the fun and care the staff provides every day.

My family of 5 rented a 6person cabana and we were all so excited for our day of fun. When we got to the cabana we were pretty disappointed because of how dirty it was but we weren’t planning on spending much time in there so we dropped our stuff off on the chairs and off we went. Then came lunch time we put our flag out for our server to come get our order. She came and got our order fairly quick so that was nice. We got our food but unfortunately even though our server read back to use that we had ordered deep fried Oreos she did not have it on our receipt so we called her back and asked if we could order the Oreos not saying anything about them being forgotten. She asked me if I would like a receipt and I declined that and gave her an $20 cash, $15 for Oreos and $5 for tip.All good right? Nope! Chicken burger was cold , two burgers were cold so we walked them up and the staff didn’t seem very happy but they remade the hamburgers and when we sat to eat them they were uncooked like really uncooked. We thought oh well we will let the kids eat the oreos and head back out. About 45 minutes went by and still not Oreos so I went up and asked what’s up with it and the girl said “what order?” I was like umm the two orders of Oreos and she oh ok I will bring them right there another 15 min went by and still nothing so I just went to the office. Lady was nice gave me a pass for 5free ice creams and wanted to give me more burgers I said nah we just want to go in the water and are tired of waiting. She then goes to the cafe to see what was up as I walked back to my cabana. As I stand at my cabana the office lady comes up to me along with the server and the cook. The cook aggressively snaps at me and said “you already got your Oreos!!” I said no we’ve been waiting for them at our cabana he said “no you came to the window and showed me your Receipt and I gave them to you. “ As they all were looking at me for answers I said no that did not happen I didn’t get a receipt remember as I looked over to the server. I said I don’t care we just want to get in the water so it is what it is. The office lady said come to me before you leave and we can get you the burgers. I said ok. My family and I went off to get back in the water a few minutes later we noticed the staff back at our cabana going threw our trash!!! Freaking unbelievable. I told my children it was ok our things will be fine. Literally the worst experience EVER!!! At the end at about 5 ish I went to the office and as I walked it the office lady was holding a small child behind the counter and she just left. I gave up at that point and just wanted to get my family out of water works park.

It was decent. We had fun! About 4 hours into our visit, the manager came out and said we couldn't have our outside water there. Idk if she was having a bad day or what but she started bitching about her employee working the door. They provide no water fountains though. We spent plenty of money there on food. We left 30 minutes after that confrontation. It kinda left a bad taste in our mouths. Eat before you go and hide your drinks under a towel if you can get them through the door by the nice staff that work the gates.

This place is completely overrated. You would think that being one of the sunniest places in the country we would have a decent water park but nooooo.. just this joke of an establishment. Outdated and overpriced. My six year old was able to ride the avalanche one trip, but the next time he was there with his grandma they told him he wasn’t tall enough, granted this was a summer later and there’s no way he got SHORTER. The food is awful and they won’t even let you bring in your own water despite it being 100+ degrees through much of the summer. Lame slides, this last time my son was there the raging river was shut down for most of the day, which due to the inconsistent height checks was the only thing he was able to ride. You would think with the amount of money charged for admittance, food, cabanas etc and the amount of time they have during the “off season” they would spend some time and money making some updates and improvements. Such a shame… we need a real water park.

WaterWorks Park felt quite cramped with limited space to move around. We did get a cabana, and while our waitress was absolutely wonderful, friendly and attentive -- the cabana itself was disappointing. It was dirty, and the furniture was old, dirty and stained, which made it uncomfortable to relax in, but better than putting our things out in the opened on the lawn chairs and tables. The rest of the park wasn’t much better. The water was murky throughout, the lazy river had little to no current, was overcrowded, and felt too narrow. There were only a few large slides, and they were just average at best. Overall, the experience was mediocre. Given that it’s one of the only water parks in Northern California aside from Sunsplash in Sacramento, it may be worth checking out once, especially for families with small children and if you don't want to travel to Sacramento or Sparks, NV for their larger water parks. We paid a group rate of $26 per person, which felt reasonable, but I wouldn’t pay more than that. Not in a hurry to return. Three stars because my two oldest children had a blast. **Note: The young lady who waited on us at the Fiji cabana on Saturday, 7/12/25 (we didn’t catch her name) was absolutely wonderful. She was kind, incredibly attentive, and worked so hard throughout our visit. We truly appreciated her great service and warm attitude even in the triple digit heat.

We went on a Wednesday. It was not busy. We had a 6 year old. We did notice wait lines on the big slides. We stayed away from the food court due to negative reviews. I noticed they did have a small store as well. There is a tube rental area to use on the big slides. Restroom was large and clean. Water in thermos was permited from what I saw. Plenty of parking. Picnic tables outside the park by parking lot.

I have a season pass and they didn't let me and my 2 kids into the park today. There were multiple parents and kids who I spoke to who are season passholders who were denied entrance as well. When signing up for a season pass it said that we'd be allowed to enter during regular business hours and since the park is open every week at 10 we should've been able to attend. I asked for a refund and the manager was very rude and denied refunding our 5 season passes. How they can feel good about wrongly denying so many parents and kids with season passes without being

Win-River Resort & Casino

Casinos & Gambling
The Win-River Resort & Casino is a laid-back event venue with clean and comfortable rooms, great food, reasonably priced drinks and seasoned bartenders. Guests can enjoy live entertainment, a golf course and a pool. The cafe bar offers cheap drinks and great people watching on weekend nights. The resort also has a nice hot tub and gym facilities for guests to use. However, some guests have expressed disappointment with the slot machines, wishing they were more generous in payouts.
I had the pleasure of staying here two different occasions in the same week. The rooms were always clean, spacious and the beds were comfortable. They have a heated outdoor pool, hot tub and mini waterfall. Plenty of access areas (with your hotel key card) around pool. A walking trail behind as well. Lots of parking and handicap parking available. Hotel rooms were not a far walk from the casino side. The elevators worked great as well. I enjoyed myself at the casino. They had a good selection of games. The restaurant had good food and there was bars all around to get drinks quickly, no matter where you were playing. The staff very friendly and super helpful! The only complaint I have is that we didn’t get a pull out bed in requested rooms. Staff brought a roll out bed and extra comforters and pillows. It was just as comfy or better and fit perfectly. Thank you for making our stay great.

We were just passing through and needed a place to stay, and this turned out to be one of the best casino experiences I’ve ever had. My wife and I opted for the romance package, and it was absolutely worth it. The free play alone covered the cost, and we were treated to a bottle of wine and beautifully romantic room decorations. The food was excellent—highly recommend the calzone, which was more than enough for both of us. The bars were lively, and the bartenders made the experience even better with their friendly service. We also took advantage of the pool and hot tub, which added a relaxing touch to our stay.

Win River Casino is a massive property with plenty of space both inside and out. Parking is plentiful and easy, which makes visiting stress-free from the start. The casino floor itself is very large, with rows of slot machines and table games that keep it busy and lively. One thing I appreciated was the attention to cleanliness-hand sanitizer stations and masks were available throughout the property. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the overall atmosphere felt welcoming. The connected hotel also makes it convenient for out-of-town guests, with clean and comfortable rooms just steps away from the gaming floor. That said, the smoke inside is definitely noticeable, which can be a drawback if you're sensitive to it. Like most casinos, the focus is heavily on slots and table games, so there isn't much beyond that in terms of entertainment variety. I was lucky enough to double my money while I was there, which made the visit more exciting, but I also realized casinos just aren't really my thing. Still, for anyone who enjoys gaming and wants a full-service experience with easy access, solid amenities, and helpful staff, Wind River delivers a good overall visit.

Honestly probably the worst experience gaming I've had. Tonight I am losing right out of the gate so im heading out an play one more machine on a 2.00 max bet for that game an it gives me a 7 free spin bonus and pays out 0.00!? On a max bet for a bonus??? Crazy its like this all the time here id go to corning if I could. Cleaner bathrooms better games and you can get your own drinks! Way better experience even when you loose!!

Slot options were good and food is good. Wished they had more food options. Rooms were clean but no security. A random person followed us to our floor and turn back when they saw us go into our room. Very scary. A lot of homeless outside and inside the casino. Many people sitting on slot machines not playing or with 1 dollar in the machine so that they can stay inside the casino. I don't recommend going there alone.

Nice well kept casino floors and great parking access easy to get in and out of as far as location but for some reason staff are not friendly and they r not traveler friendly dew to not allowing me or my family member to have or travel backpack that Carrie our medication and medical supplies and or hygiene with us. When we approached the front desk we were greated with additude and rude unnecessary comments like well this isn't navada or Arizona so because I mentioned that we live in Arizona trip state and travel to Vegas and that we were unaware of the RULES of the casino and we are not trying to piss off anyone and apologize for the inconvenience of us being there. I have no intention on going back would rather travel to corning casino where we r greated with smile and appreciation for being guests

Smaller casino but right off a main road in Redding. Parking was open in the first row when we went in the later afternoon. Had no problems getting drinks at our machines. Left with winnings. Didn't stay in the resort part just played some slots. Very clean and noticable security at the front door made it feel safe, like had we won just a tad over what we did security would have walked us to the car. Had a lot of fun here.

The rooms desperately need to be updated! And cleaned much better than they are! Our room smells like urine! We recommend avoiding the restaurant! Absolutely disgusting food! They served us spoiled coleslaw!

Bethel Church Redding

Sights & Landmarks
Bethel Church Redding is a modern Evangelist church and school known for its lively weekend services featuring devotional music. The church aims to prepare people for an encounter with the Lord rather than focusing on famous personalities, as seen in their Sunday evening services. Despite some negative reviews, many visitors have found the guest speakers to be humble and touched by God's presence. Some have even been moved by sermons from influential figures like Bill Johnson.
A must visit if you are passing by if you live in town and are in search of a home church. We travelled from Canada to attend a Sunday service and it did not disappoint. The worship is beautiful and the message is always on point. Kids ministry is beautiful. We went to the 8 am service which was great.

This is such an awesome church and so God inspiring and I'm on a healing quest to get away from dysfunctional people and originally I was just going to go to Southern Oregon and then cut West, but now I'm making a pilgrimage to Redding just to catch the service at Bethel this morning, and I am so pumped!! I've been hiding out in Mount Shasta to escape the heat, and God woke me up at 3:30 this morning, and I'm originally from Minnesota, and the time there would have been about 5:30, and through chat GPT this morning when I was getting information about the church times it reminded me about psalms 5:3 "in the morning I lay my request before you, and wait expectantly." Wooooooooo e! God is so good!! Update: I attended the Sunday church on 7.6.25 at 8:00 a.m. and I forget the speaker's name but I have seen him on YouTube before and he was talking about space and the word Surge and it was so awesome and enlightening and informative but also funny and like all the speakers here he is just amazing messenger of God. I got there a little early to grab a coffee and went to the bookstore to get Chuck Perry's "Alignment" book, and who walked in just a minute after I did when I was at the checkout, but Chuck Parry, who greeted me and signed the book. To be honest I've been going through some really tough stuff lately going no contact with my family from realizing how dysfunctional everything was after reading sbout their egomaniacal in narcissistic behavior that happens when you reject God and the books ("Pulling your Strings, "Healing from Narcissistic Abuse" etcetera) described to the letter their selfish behavior, and I got up at 3:30 in Mount Shasta yhe night before so I was a little steep deprived, and so I had trouble staying awake the whole day, but by night time I was an hour east of Eureka, California camping, and I walking along the shore around 9:30 a little bit before I was going to go to sleep, and I was feeling so hopeless and and lost and feeling all alone realizing the only person I have in my life right now is God (but in hindsight that's enough) and I was having some really negative thoughts as I was walking along the shore with Chuck's book, and I opened it and started to read it under the moonlight, and was reminded after reading it that I need to turn to God after reading the first dozen pages or so I prayed and like always something happened that was just enough to give me some encouragement, but I ended up having the most vivid dreams where I had confrontations with my family where I was trying to seek answers and they were dismissing me like usual with the typical labels of sensitive or overreacting, even though I saved all their lives many times by putting my brain and body in harm's way to protect them from my bipolar older brother, and I woke up at 3:30 kicking my limbs around in a rage and I had a mini nervous breakdown where I was heave crying, and filled up about 8 paper towels of snot and tissue, but I started praying and journaling I and felt immediately better, and I'm doing good today and so much better and I'm actually feeling optimistic, but had I not turned to God I would be so broken. Enough about me though, the church was so awesome, and I saw so many kind people with niceness in their eyes and what a great energy that was there, not just from the speakers, but from people attending. I was going to write for people to pray for me but instead because God always heals me and makes me stronger like a bone that is broken when I am broken I will instead ask people to pray for lost sheep like my family who have rejected God in place of their egos. God bless Anyone who reads this and God bless everybody who's hurting and know that God can heal your Brokenness because I have been broken so many times in so many ways and have nothing but God, but that's more than enough and I feel whole now and I know I will be broken again but the next time that happens I'm not going to entertain negative thoughts I'm going to go straight to God and start praying.

Love this place! I travel a long way to come and visit, but can't recommend this church enough. Solid teaching, great tunes, you can really feel the presence of God and the community is so lovely. Really recommend if you're searching to give this place a go.

This church is not just a church…it is a place where the presence of the Lord dwells. You just have to experience it for yourself. So grateful for the way God moves here and the amazing people who work and serve at Bethel. Hope to get to visit here again one day! Incredible place with beautiful views of the mountains and hills. The house of prayer and the beautiful gardens and waterfalls are peaceful and just walking around anywhere on the campus is so beautiful. 🥹🤩😍😍😍

Wow! This church is great and so beautiful! It's kinda scary to start a new church but they bring you right into the community! Once you become a member, perform the ritual and harvest the bloodfiend for the first time, it all becomes clear! This isn't a cult, it's a revolution of light against dark. All hail the bringer of light and knowledge! The defiler shall cleanse your essence and birth the new reapers! HAIL DEEP THANATOS!

So recently, my sweet wife and I visited Bethel Church. We drove over five hours from Central Oregon just to have a time of spiritual refreshment from being in a weary season and I cannot tell you how blessed and encouraged. We were to attend the weekend service and the prayer time on Saturday morning at this time, my spouse and I we are experiencing homelessness because of inflation in the economy and we were treated no differently at the church then if we were rich and had a lot of money, we were not looked down upon or treated any differently or people felt sorry for us. It was such a refreshing experience And it helped us tremendously in so many ways physically mentally spiritually and emotionally cannot say enough good things about Bethel Church in Redding, California.

The first service we attended was a baptism service. People were publicly repenting of, and forsaking, new age practices while being baptized into new life in Christ. Worship was wonderful! The next day Bill Johnson preached a service on repentance and stewarding your heart. Lou Engel was also there preaching about communion. I personally enjoyed reading all the negative reviews on here because Jesus said that that people would say those sorts of things about the people who follow Him (and they also said Jesus was a blasphemer who had a demon). We visited about a year ago, but I thought I’d leave a review after all the bad press they’ve been getting lately. Just goes to show you can’t believe everything you read on the internet.

Thoroughly enjoyed the worship, fellowship and Bible-based teaching. Alabaster Box was incredibly peaceful space. Beautiful grounds.
