Chehaw Park & Zoo

Park
Nature & Parks
Chehaw Park in Albany, Georgia offers a diverse range of attractions for visitors. The 700-acre park is an accredited wildlife attraction with various animal habitats and activities such as BMX bike trails, frisbee golf, and campsites. Visitors can explore the park's natural beauty while learning about conservation and observing animals like camels, meerkats, and screech owls. Additionally, the park features a splash pad playground for children and a grilling area for gatherings.
We enjoyed RV camping in such a quiet spot. The 18-hole disc golf in the evening was fun, as was the zoo in the morning. We were the onky visitors to the zoo, and the bears, bactrian camel, black rhino, lemors, prairie dogs, and cheetas and others were curious to see us. Off season was calm and wonderful. If I still had little kids, I'd be back here often.
Nancy J — Google review
We visited the zoo and the playground. My children had an excellent time. The park is well- maintained and the staff is friendly. It was not very crowded on a Wednesday afternoon. There are no souvenir patches in the gift shop, only magnets, tees, and stuffed toys. And the on-site food vendor is not available on regular weekdays, only on weekends. Those were the only 2 downsides, for us.
Stacie H — Google review
It was a nice zoo for the price. There were a lot of empty exhibits though and no concessions opened, other than a drink machine. Luckily I packed something. The alligator exhibit was pretty neat. It took us about an hour to go through.
Jena B — Google review
I think that there is a lot to offer here. Coming here is two adults with no children we see the appeal of the public park and splash pad. For kids this is an awesome free experience (minus entry fee) . The zoo is small but surpassed our expectations. There was a lot to see at the zoo and the animal interactions were quite interesting. We really enjoyed getting to feed the rhino. The zoo took us probably three and a half hours to go around the whole thing and take time at each exhibit. On the weekend we did see people racing RC cars and that was really unique and not something that we expected to see. Also the fact that this place has fishing and camping, it makes it seem like an all-around Outdoor Adventure day for anybody. We would probably come back here again but I do not think we would visit the zoo again. Overall, who facility is clean and as it was not expensive, it was a good experience.
Laura H — Google review
We had such a great time visiting here! Look at animals in a very beautiful setting! We will definitely go back.
Chrissy W — Google review
Wonderfull place... animals are well taken care off. And to be a samll zoo there was plenty to see.
Frank L — Google review
This place is amazing. The only thing I would not give 5 stars for is the bathroom. The bathrooms need updating.
Ethel — Google review
Use playground with caution. Our day at Chehaw started out great, we really enjoyed the zoo. Unfortunately the end of our trip turned into a rush to the closest ER. All 3 of our children were enjoying the playground when our middle child (7 year old) fell off the zipline and broke her Tibia in multiple places. Some of the playground is covered in rubber mulch material but this area was hard packed dirt, I called multiple times to try to alert staff (management) about the area needing to be re-mulched but have yet to receive a call back or acknowledgement of the issue being resolved. I know 💩 happens but I would like to see the area maintained so this doesnt happen to another child.

Beautiful FREE museum. Staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely worth the stop while visiting Albany. Something for everyone to do!

We love going to visit the Albany MOA. We visit quite often with our homeschool group and Mrs Annie is always so informative and helpful. We love being able to be hands on and able to do different projects while there. The AMAzing space for kids is so much fun as well.

I recently visited the Albany Museum of Art at 311 Meadowlark Dr, in Albany, GA. There was plenty of parking and I entered the building and was greeted and asked to sign in. I was given a brochure of the exhibits and how to locate them. I went on the self guided tour of the exhibits and enjoyed my time checking them all out. A nice way to spend some time and look at art
Greg K — Google review
The atmosphere at the museum is fitting for a formal event. The auditorium layout and decor made our decor really pop. The staff was friendly and there if we needed anything. I will definitely consider for another event.
Kuwanza F — Google review
This museum is completely free. We had the entire building to ourselves. There is a kid area with creative toys, a room that projects your movement onto a screen and a wall to wall chalk board. There are three different rooms to view. The artwork is beautiful. I recommend this to anyone looking for something to do in Albany
Zaria G — Google review
Great museum! The staff were super welcoming and friendly and the museum featured some really cool works that showcased local talent. The old cigarette machine dispensing surprise art was also super fun! Highly recommend stopping by if you're in Albany.
Monica H — Google review
Drove several miles just to be told that on a Saturday with several people coming and going that it was closed for multiple private parties on half and the other half wasn't open to public either. Stopped at the door and not allowed to visit any of the museum. So - maybe check ahead to see if the museum is open to visitors.

Informal low-rise lodging offering a fitness room & an outdoor pool, plus free breakfast & Wi-Fi.
The staff is exceptional! The lobby is bright and welcoming. Location is perfect... Walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Beds are comfortable and pillows are fluffy. TVs have decent pictures and plenty of channels to choose from. Housekeeping doesn't knock on the door early, which is a huge plus. A few things... Vending is only on the 1st floor, the room numbers are a little odd, this last time the room had a bit of a stale odor and the door needed to forcibly pushed for it to latch. The pool was empty but that's probably due to the time of year. I feel these are all minor issues that will be addressed. The General Manager, Patrick, is always there and happy to assist.
Christa B — Google review
Some of the reviews on here might have you questioning whether or not to stay. Well let me tell you, I travel year round with my job and live out of hotels 300 plus nights per year. And I like to be comfortable and I like to feel as if I’m home. This hotel is not nearly as bad as some of the reviews wouod indicate. The beds are comfortable. They’re in the process of doing some renovations around the hotel. You can tell they’re actively trying to improve. The manager, Patrick at the front desk is incredibly friendly. It’s right across the street from the mall. There are tons of dining options close by. Only thing I could say in regards to complaints is housekeeping could pay a little more attention to detail when they’re cleaning the rooms. Other than that, the rates are very reasonable and is a decent place to stay while traveling.
Dakota — Google review
I recently stayed at this hotel with my partner, and despite some of the other reviews, we had a fantastic time. The staff was incredibly accommodating and super sweet. Our room was spotless and the location couldn't have been better – everything was within walking distance. The continental breakfast was a nice touch, and the hotel was quiet, making for a very relaxing stay. Highly recommend!
Alyssia W — Google review
Needed a room in a pinch. The other hotels in Albany had reviews that were quite scary & had me wondering if I was even going to find a decent spot. I found it here! Nice, clean rooms & friendly staff! Would highly recommend!
Sara R — Google review
The room was dirty and roaches in the room the refrigerator was not cold or not working. I called the front desk for towels lady told me to come to the front to get them but never said to bring the dirty ones. This hotel was not worth $100 a night. They said breakfast was 6:00 to 9:09 no food was stocked up for late arrivals coming for breakfast it was only 8:00. We will not go there again.
Quinnetta J — Google review
I had no issues with my Visit, this is a great location. Staff was very pleasant and helped me with my questions before reservation. Patrick Patel ensured my satisfaction with the cleanliness of my room in a timely manner. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone stopping by Albany!
Adrian M — Google review
Entire bathroom ceiling paint peeling. Bathroom exhaust fan caked with dust/dirt. Zero toilet paper. Two towels for a 4 person room. I wiped up spilled water on the floor between the beds and the towel was BLACK...zero effort to mop for ages!!! Bedspread was badly stained and should be thrown out! I asked for extra pillows and the check in lady handed them to me with instructions that I must return those exact pillows in the morning...that should be her request to cleaning staff, not guests! Breakfast area was very low on inventory and variety, and no fresh fruit which is a standard offering. ***Side note to Owner - replies on reviews from you don't mean much when they say the same thing over and over for the same continual complaints by many guests. If your staff can't get it together, then it's time for a new staff.
Kelly S — Google review
Not so good. The hotel and room need a lot of maintenance and repairs. The room was dirty - blanket had spots, bathroom mirror and shower door had finger prints, minimum number of towels, lightbulb burnt out, etc. I had to switch rooms because the first room was musty and I slid across the floor when I entered due to high humidity. There were several small bags of trash outside rooms and a large bag next to a garbage can. Rooms only had one small trash can. The cost was also around $100 even with AAA and membership. Best to stay somewhere else.

Still Pond Vineyard & Winery

Wineries & Vineyards
I had the most delightful time visiting Still Pond Vineyard. I have known of the place for years and had planned on many occasions to experience one of the festivals. I have had friends and family both to provide information about their experiences as well. My tour started with samplings of some of the spirits they offer. Various wines ranging from Dry to dessert wines, meads, moonshine, vodka, gin, and combination and infusions of the previously mentioned. Up to seven of the wines can be tasted for free. Beyond seven you pay per sample. The distillery offering you get four free if you pay for a souvenir glass. I was not disappointed with anything sampled. The staff was great and extremely personable, friendly and knowledgeable. If you can visit during the week, your experience may more intimate, because more people come on the weekend. After samplings you are given a tour of the facility. I have been to larger operations, but this one makes me feel at home. Back inside I purchased some of the beverages I sampled as well as some snacks. Looking forward to returning again in the near future.

What a neat winery!! I love the flights. They have wine, 'shines, and distilled liquors. We had a lot of fun and met some pretty neat people from Florida and Cuthbert.

Everytime I come from Miami to Blakley I can't wait to go with family to Still Pond. We all love the quiet feel of friendship each time from the owners and staff. Still Pond is a must see and experience on your "Bucket List ".

Great place to go for an afternoon drive. The people are friendly and informative. We even got to meet the owner. Product is pretty darn good, also! Bring a picnic lunch!
Amy H — Google review
We visit here at least once a year. Staff is always friendly and helpful. We purchased several wines, notably the Notchaway Red and White. We even left with some of the peach moonshine.😉
Karen M — Google review
Such a pleasant experience. I tasted a few of their products and had good conversation with the people working the wine tasting. I didn't have time to do the tour this time, but I will be going back again soon!
Sebrun H — Google review
Once again this place didn't disappoint. The more you buy the more you save on their great wines. Black berry and the apple are my favorites. Definitely I'll be re-upping soon. Great customer service and wine tasting at its finest.

My group and I had a great time hunting at Quail country plantation this past week. It was our first time and we felt like we were part of the family from the get go. Thanks for the great food, drinks, and plenty of birds to Shoot at. Ms Kate,Leanne,Donny, and the whole family made us feel very welcome it right from the start. And thanks for the boiled peanuts too! Blessings from Wisconsin,

The folks here are so friendly and go above and beyond to make sure that you're comfortable, have everything that you need, and are having a good time. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun hunting/ outdoor adventure and we're looking forward to getting back here ourselves soon.

While no longer in operation this plantation does still entertain groups of people. The land is still privately owned and maintained.
Rick G — Google review
I enjoyed my stay at the plantation. The property is beautiful and the staff was very welcoming. The food is as southern as it gets and all of our meals were delicious and hearty. If you are planning a trip I recommend that you take a group of at least 4 people. I went for the weekend with a buddy and we soon became bored in the evening. They do have a open bar, pool table, darts, and unreliable internet but more friends would have filled the void. Hunting on the plantation was by far the most exciting part of our weekend. The guide was entertaining, knowledgeable, and handled the dogs well. The birds flushed fast and hard which created a fun challenging hunt. If you are looking for a quiet place to hunt off the beaten trail then give quail county plantation a visit. Thanks, Jason

Great place to bring family! Mark’s has become a weekly trip. Fabulous fruits and veggies in season. The white chocolate covered pecans are my favorite treat. There are farm animals to look at, okra fields to be admired, and lots of dried gourds to choose from as well. A huge shaded playground for the kids and homemade strawberry ice cream. One of my favorite places in the Albany, GA area.
Janette G — Google review
Fun stop on our road trips! They have great produce, prepared food and boiled peanuts. The bathrooms are always clean and they have an adorable playground for kids.
Amy W — Google review
Sure can't recommend their boiled peanuts. I think what they did was mix in new peanuts on top of some that had already been cooked to death. What I got was some that you could get out of the shell and a lot that were just soggy mush that weren't even shaped like peanuts anymore. The fresh ones were fairly tasty but there so many overcooked ones I wound up chucking 3/4 of the cup in the garbage. I feel like a place that features their boiled peanuts should know better than to just dump new in with old.
Jeremy W — Google review
Great fresh peaches and watermelon! We also stopped for the homemade strawberry ice cream every single time we pass through! Always delicious!
Amy W — Google review
Great place for fresh produce. It's the only place I can find sugar baby watermelons. The kids have fun playing at the playground there too. It's pricey, but very nice. The staff is very helpful.

Extremely impressive museum with lots of telephone artifacts and other items. Free will donation. Nice automobile collection also. Allow 1-2 hours to see it. We arrived at 4pm and they closed at 5pm. They were turning off the lights at 4:45 so we left and the employees beat us out of the parking lot
Dale — Google review
Very cool museum. We were the only ones briefing the museum at the time there were no other visitors. I think that people do not realize how neat the museum is. They have examples of every telephone dating back to the first one. You get to learn the history of the telephone and how it progressed. They also have several original switchboards you can view which is neat. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to know about the history of communicating.
Vivian C — Google review
This is an incredible collection of telephones and more. Well worth the trip out into the country. I have learned so much about early telephone. I strongly recommend a visit.
Linder R — Google review
This museum is a hidden treasure! I was so in wonder of the telephones of every era, make and model. Then to see with surprise all the cars and other antiques! Truly a must see museum.
Anita G — Google review
Very unique collection of old and newer telephones, telephone equipment and stories on how the telephone has been shaped and has shaped the world.
Eric W — Google review
What a wonderful museum and collection of phones along with memorabilia. Collection of phones was outstanding!!! I would highly recommend the stop, even for a 1 hour visit. I will definitely go back. Nice piece of local history to add to the appeal to visiting area. Free with no pressure to make small voluntary donation for entry. Some interaction with displays. Mostly" Do Not Touch." Dog friendly for well behaved or service dogs welcome. Thank you MR Smith and members for creating such a wonderful exhibit.

Tons of phones and switchboards to see displayed in a very nice way. There is so much to see it takes a while to view it all and learn about the history of the phone. It's worth the time to stop and see all they have.

Lindbergh First Solo Flight Monument

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Monuments & Statues
Found this monument by chance, loved to learn about the history of Charles Lindbergh and his first flight.
Brian A — Google review
It may not be much more than a well-tended field today, but fans of aviation will still want to pay homage to the achievements of Charles Lindbergh at the site in Americus where he made his first solo flight in 1923. Standing at Souther Field, one of the earliest airfields in the US and now Jimmy Carter Regional Airport, the fine statue reminds visitors just how daring Lindbergh was. Before even taking to an aircraft cockpit, Lindbergh parachuted and wing-walked. He of course went on to complete the first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. And he did this just four years after learning to fly right here in Americus.
Ankit P — Google review
A simple monument to where Charles Lindbergh made his first solo flight located on the grounds of Jimmy Carter Regional Airport (Souther Field). If you're an aviation enthusiast, it's worth the detour if you find yourself near Americus.

Museum is a self guided walk through building with a lot of artifacts, displays, videos, and interactive features. Very well put together to tell the story of POWs with first hand accounts of POWs and their families. It is wheelchair and stroller accessible, and there are benches throughout to sit and take in the displays and watch the videos. Restrooms are available. There is a gift shop with books, magnets, postcards, pins, t-shirts, and the usual memorabilia.

The museum exhibits are in poor lighting. I had problems reading about them. Great set up and some much to see. Lighting needs to be improved. Still worth your time Walking around outside was so interesting.
Denis T — Google review
A somber and powerful experience steeped in the horrors of war and fearful side of mankind. Along with the sadness I also saw the struggle and sacrifice from those who gave all to fight to destroy the evil. A beautiful memorial to those it represents.
Michael Y — Google review
It is a solemn place which displays the harshness of the treatment and the enduring resolve of the POW. The engagement in the readings and videos takes us back to those moments where lives suffered. The facility is monumental and the staff knowledgeable.

Awesome Military Staff Ride at Andersonville Prison National Park. Reactors were on hand. The Park staff was well prepared and very knowledgeable. Great visit.
Todd S — Google review
We have been a couple of times. It's such an incredible but sad museum. Highly recommend taking the time to read everything and be humbled by what we as humans have endured. Bless America, and we shall never forget those that served and continue to serve. The grounds are beautiful and can take a little bit of time to walk, so come with plenty of time to walk around or drive around as both can be done with parking throughout some of the drive to get down and read.
Andy — Google review
Posted earlier. Amazing and an absolute must visit. Such an honor to step where so many perished.
Sheila D — Google review
Pleasantly surprised at how well the museum was done and the grounds upkeep. The short film was worth it although it is quite depressing. The only negative was that some of the exhibits were too dark to see. I understand that it was meant to create a mood, but it was a little frustrating not to be able to read things. All in all, very impressed

War museum
The Drummer Boy Civil War Museum, located on the main street, is a captivating collection of authentic uniforms from both the Union and Confederate sides, as well as revolvers, carbines, and muskets. The museum is part of a village that includes a 6-acre Pioneer Farm with an operating Grist Mill and a 130-year-old log cabin. The area also features historical buildings in a natural setting, making it an ideal backdrop for events like weddings or business meetings.
Great museum filled with great insight of the prisoner’s experiences at Andersonville. It’s a small museum but a great size packed with artifacts from various civil war battles.

Unfortunately it was closed when we went thru after visiting the National POW site. There is so much history surrounding this area, hope to have an opportunity to visit in the future. The Georgia Visitor Information Center - Plains is a charming and welcoming stop for travelers interested in learning about the area. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, providing insights into President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn. Despite the small-town setting, the center offers well-stocked information, clean restrooms, and even a cozy fireplace on chilly days. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque grounds with gardens, a pond with ducks, and picnic tables.
Clean restrooms, well-stocked with information and knowledgeable, friendly staff. Good bit of info on Jimmy Carter and you can get a little pack of peanuts to snack on while you're there. Make sure you visit the ducks!!

Friendly staff inside. Clean and full.pf tourist brochures for all.s Ross Georgia. The state maps here are free but kept behind the counter and you have to ask for one. The paper on the state maps is very cheap though and the map tears easily. The gardens around the building are very nice too.

One of the nicest welcome centers in GA! The woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful on 10/9/25. She knew that the shutdown was limiting visitors’ enjoyment in Plains. So she explained how to enjoy the open areas in some of Jimmy Carter’s National Historical Sites. She provided a map and invited us to look around. She also gave us packets of peanuts and wildflower seeds. Husband indulged me by taking my photo with the Jimmy Carter cutout. He was the first President I campaigned for. I purchased a tee shirt with Rosalynn’s butterfly trail on the back. I took pictures of the rocking chairs and a Jimmy Carter mural. Outside, the grounds are peaceful and relaxing. I took photos of waterfowl by the pond & a wine bottle tree by an area perfect for reflection. The roses smelled so good. We both used the bathrooms which were clean and had everything we needed.

Plain Peanuts and General Store is a must-visit spot in Plains, Georgia. Indulge in their delicious fried peanuts and peanut brittle while exploring the store's wide variety of t-shirts and souvenirs. Don't miss out on their unique selection of seasoned peanuts and the best peanut butter ice cream you'll ever taste. The friendly staff will make your visit even more enjoyable as they share local stories and recommendations.
Loved our visit here - not only are the peanut products delicious, but the soft serve peanut butter ice cream was amazing! Lots of Carter souvenirs too - a great small town general store feel full of souvenirs. We received fantastic service, as well! Thank you :) You made our day

Flavorless brittle. Should take the time to infuse some chopped pecans into the brittle mixture with the sugar and corn syrup. All we end up with. Here is a very hard, sweet, infection that has no discernible, pecan flavor, and very few pecans in the brittle to begin with. I would give it. Zero stars if I could.

I've heard about the peanut butter ice cream here and finally got to try it. It comes soft serve in the back of the store and there are several different types of cones (or a cup) to put it in. At the front of the store they have samples of fried salted peanuts. There's all kinds of peanut products here. The staff is very friendly and there are seats outside to eat your ice cream. It's worth the stop but they aren't open late so get there early

Plains Peanuts and General Store was the cutest little store that takes you back in time! Lots of cool items such as cans of ‘Billy Beer’ and delicious snacks, especially the ice cream! If you are ever in Plains, Ga I highly recommend visiting this establishment as your won’t be disappointed! The staff are friendly and eager for your business!!!

The icecream was ok but we tried several other treats… boiled peanuts, several brittle flavors and several favors of fried peanuts and they were all pretty bad. My family normally loves treats like these but all of us agreed we were disappointed.

This is THE store for Plains Georgia. We’ve never had”a peanut” flavor ice cream before and boy, I’ve no idea what I’ve been missing all these years. The offer soft-serve peanut flavor , and chocolate or mixed together. That mix swirls was a game changer. Fantastic ice cream. They also offer local products. Everything to do with president Carter as well. They have a “Mayhaw Jelly” ; a local fruit like a plum with tangy taste. Staff there are incredibly friendly and funny. We had good conversations about town. Love this kind of places. You know people are genuinely nice.

This cute little general store has delicious fried peanuts and brittle. They also have the best peanut butter ice cream I have ever tasted. They have a wide variety of t-shirts, souvenirs and of course peanuts. They have plain fried peanuts, and they also have a unique selection of seasoned peanuts as well. Stop by and say hello to the sweet ladies and grab a cup of ice cream to enjoy as you explore the Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail. Buy some peanuts and a t-shirt while you are there. 😁

The depot offers a step back in time, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the history of this rural part of Georgia.
I don't know IF this one particular review will suffice for everything and everyone that my family and I met and interacted with in Plains, GA. USA or not, I'll try?! In any case, I first want to start by saying God bless the Good, Good People of Plains, GA. USA and the Man and Family of James E. Carter, Our Once and Former President of the United States of America! President Carter and his People are REALLY AND TRULY one of a kind, and come from a uniquely one-of-a-kind place. And though it has been ages and ages since I was last at Plains, President Carter's Brother Billy was STILL amongst the living then, and I was but a small child, I do still remember that trip with my now deceased parents quite well! Second, Plains has a rich and unique history. I doubt, seriously, that had Mr. Carter not run for and got elected to the higher offices that he did, we would have probably known very little, if anything, about Plains, GA. USA. For it is 'a quiet, one horse town' and a half IF there was one! Third, and FINALLY, one and all MUST make the journey to Plains and experience it for yourselves! No one or more, Google reviews will suffice, and, I fear, they may well pale in comparison. The journey, the destination, and the People that make it all up MUST be taken up by you, the Reader, the Journeyman! Come! Come on down to Plains, GA. USA see and experience All the Amazing People and Things that make her up daily! See you all there! P. S. The peanut ice cream is to die for!!

The Jimmy Carter National Historical Park is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. It features well-preserved buildings connected to former President Carter, such as his boyhood farm and school. Visitors can start at Plains High School, the visitor center where Carter and his wife Rosalynn graduated. The Boyhood Farm offers a glimpse into the president's upbringing, where he helped his father cultivate various crops.
We thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits in the high school, the depot, and Carter's boyhood farm. Very educational and well done. We also browsed in the shops and enjoyed lunch at the cafe.

Had known about this place for a while but didn't really think about visiting here until recently, and it happened to be on my travel route when driving up from Florida. I found it a little hard to find the place first; driving there the roads are really country roads. First of all, visited Plains High School, which is now a museum, the boyhood home, and the 1976 Presidential Campaign Headquarters (orginally a train depot; now a museum). Park ranger at the High School was helpful and so was another ranger (in overalls) at the boyhood home. We also drove by the "Smiling Peanut" statue (that simulates the famous "Carter smile") too. Very interesting exhibits and information on display.

This National Park is in the old Plains High School building. They have amazing exhibits showing different times of Jimmy Carter’s life and career. There is an exhibit of Jimmy Carter’s high school class. It is interesting to see that they needed to use ink wells just to write on paper. Complete contrast to lead pencils we use today. There is exhibits showing Jimmy Carter’s political career as well. How everything looked at an old ballet box to a replica of the oval office desk. It has a lot of interesting information and is worth a trip to see.

This a great place to see what elements go into making a President. There are several locations at this site and the best place to start is the old Plains High School. This really sets the tone for how important learning is to President Carter's success. It is also a good reminder of how much education has changed, and maybe not for the better. On your way to the home be sure to check out Billy Carter's gas station. At the childhood home I was the only person there. (My wife stayed in the car) This location set the tone for learning how hard work and how to treat others affected the rest of President Carter's life as his time with Habitat for Humanity would demonstrate. Be sure to look at all the buildings and see how much more simple things were and how much more meaningful many things were because you had to work for and earn what you had. This a great trip to combine with a visit to Andersonville.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Reverent and Beautiful Tribute to a Humble Giant Visiting the final resting place of President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter is a moving, peaceful experience. Nestled within their hometown of Plains, Georgia, the new Carter Presidential Park is everything it should be: accessible, dignified, and lovingly maintained. The portraits inside the museum are striking, especially Jimmy’s official White House portrait—calm, confident, and thoughtful—just like the man himself. Rosalynn’s portrait glows with quiet grace. Outdoors, the garden and burial site are immaculate. The headstones are modest, surrounded by blooming flowers, green lawn, and shaded by old Georgia trees. A paved path leads through the memorial garden and around a serene pond with a fountain. It’s peaceful and soul-soothing—exactly how you’d picture the Carters would want to be remembered. A special touch is the garden tribute to their grandson Jeremy—a reminder that this is still, at its heart, a family home. Whether you’re a history buff, admirer of the Carters, or just someone seeking a quiet moment, this place honors a life of service with simple beauty and deep respect. Worth the journey. ⸻

The Smiling Peanut, also known as the Jimmy Carter Peanut Statue, is a famous landmark in Plains, Georgia. Visitors can take selfies with the giant grinning peanut and enjoy snacks like peanut brittle from Plain Peanuts. The statue holds historical significance as it commemorates former President Jimmy Carter's connection to peanuts. Additionally, visitors can explore exhibits about Jimmy Carter at the National Park in town. Some travelers even consider visiting this iconic site a pilgrimage and find it worth the journey.
We visited the smiling peanut at night. It was very creepy looking, but fun at the same time. The peanut is located in the parking lot of a somewhat abandoned gas station and a trailer park, so this adds to the creepiness.

Coming from Illinois, I drove through a monsoon, thunderstorms, and tornado warnings, just to get a picture of the Jimmy Carter Peanut in Plains, Georgia! I'd do it all again just because I love these road side attractions. There is a small convenience store close by if you want to grab a snack.

President Carter was not a supporter of his political views, but he has been an outstanding former President who sets the standard for others. We wish him peace and happiness in his remaining time. He has lived a fulfilling life and if there is an afterlife, he will surely be there. The experience at Maranatha Baptist Church was incredible. It is highly recommended to spend the night in the parking lot if you want seats in the sanctuary.
So great to see where the late President attended church. Located right outside of Plains, this is a beautiful church with plenty of parking.

Small church that Jimmy Carter used to attend. Congregation is friendly and inviting. The staff that were involved in Mr. Carter's funeral preperations used this church to practice at and stage equipment. Very grateful that the church is heated. It got pretty cold during certain points in time that week.

This was a bucket list experience I was fortunate to check off in my life in 2018: driving 14 hours to a small church in Plains, GA. I went not only to see a former president teach Sunday school but also to witness one of the most inspirational humanitarians I know. My admiration for Mr. Carter, which began in childhood, has only deepened with his unwavering advocacy for peace after his presidency. The charm and wonder of the church, reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting, made this an unforgettable moment in my life.

I had the incredible privilege of attending a Sunday School lesson he taught at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia. It was a moment I will never forget. His personal relationship with Christ was so evident—his words were not just teachings; they were reflections of a life deeply rooted in faith, humility, and love for humanity.
Melissa F — Google review
This female pastor decided on her own to get rid of the US flag and the Christian flag! The church needs to remove her! It should have been brought up for the church to vote on! She thinks she has more authority than the whole church! She has to go or the church will divide and die!
Nancy R — Google review
This was the most amazing family trip we have ever taken. We did not witness any power trips and we were one of the "latecomers" escorted to the front. Having strong people in charge is not optional when a sitting or former President attends a function. You will definitely see bomb sniffing dogs and plenty of Secret Service. They will look into the windows of your car. They will not allow you to take a bag or backpack inside. Phones and cameras will be inspected by Secret Service agents as well as your wallet. The leaders of the church will tell you what you can and can't do. It's not optional. You will do it. "Latecomers" are seated in the front for a reason. Everything done on the days President Carter is there is done for a reason. Not a whim. So, with that out of the way, we had an exceptional experience and my son will have this memory to hold onto for the rest of his life. Mrs. Jan, Mrs. Betty, Pastor Brandon and, of course, President Carter were all welcoming and treated us as if they had known us all their lives. It was an almost six hour drive for us and we only spent one night. And I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! Wonderful service and message. President Carter is amazingly eloquent and shared very insightful stories about his time in office as well as how he views our current political situations. He related those stories to Bible passages that perfectly illustrated his compassion, understanding and acceptance of others. Pastor Brandon did an excellent job in the church service. His message illustrated a deeper understanding of the overall service and message. We downloaded and listened to "An Hour Before Daylight" by President Carter on the way down. I highly recommend doing the same so you have a deeper understanding of who and where you are visiting.

Great Tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and welcomed questions. The pace was not rushed and you were able to really look at everything throughout the tour. The tasting after the tour is optional for a fee and includes 5 different expressions. Great variety of rum being produced. Made from local grown sugar cane and the entire process from farm to bottle is local. There was a special free tasting for their barrel aged coffee.

Very fun and knowledgeable tour of rum making!! These people know what they are doing!! I'm so happy we stopped! The distillery is housed in a beautifully restored historic building. The rum (which is good and smooth) is made from sugarcane that is grown locally. The aroma of it being distilled will definitely heighten your senses!! Of course, we bought a bottle!! Another awesome find!! Thanks Richland Rum...

Hi! We recently went on a tour at the Richland Distilling Company in Richland, Georgia. Their sugar cane farm is just a couple miles away from the Distillery. Amazing expedition. TJ is super kind and he shared a lot of knowledge about how to produce the rum. Everything is clean and extraordinary. I had a great experience. The facility is very nice and was filled with the sweet smell of cane syrup. The sample that was given had a great aroma with no harsh alcohol scent. The taste was very clean with an initial caramel flavor that was followed by an agricole characteristic of vegetable and grass. The finish wasn't long but it went down very smooth. I was able to taste the barrel proof liquid straight from the copper still, which was surprisingly smooth at close to 120 proof. Very flavorful with a nice balance of dry and sweetness. An overall good rum but not the Agricole that will have me moving away from typical molasses-based rums.

This place is amazing! We were the only ones there and got to walk freely around the area. Very beautiful and interesting art installment with lots of history. They rely on donations so please bring some cash so they can continue to keep this place open. The parking is free and plenty. The guy that maintains the grounds is very friendly. Truly a wonderful and unique place. Charles, the project coordinator/caretaker, was welcoming and enthusiastic about it's history. Definitely a must see. Is free, but it is suggested you donate if you visit and you should. Places like this need to be preserved. They also sell necklaces made with beads Eddie crafted which makes for a fun souvenir.
Meridith M — Google review
Certainly a unique place. Eddie Owens Martin singlehandedly changed that property into a something uncommon. Its relatively small being a house plus a couple other buildings on a 7 acre lot. There is quite a bit of his work inside the buildings too. When I visited, it appeared small upkeep, restoration/maintenance were happening as well as preparations for an upcoming event or gala. The place is free to visit, but encourages donations. Pending how thoroughly you peruse throughout the property, it'll take about 30 minutes to an hour. The colors, patterns, and detail are quite impressive. Worth a visit at least once.

Loved it. Restoration process of this hidden gem is amazing. Learn about the artist before you go, it makes the art and experience more meaningful.

What a gem! We really enjoyed our time here learning about how it came to be. And the man who made it a reality. The caretaker spent a lot of time with us sharing their story with Pasaquan and the history. Being able to top off our EV for no cost was nice thank you!

We came here when this place was being revamped and renovated. I'm so glad they decided to bring this place back to life. This is something fun and offbeat to do one day when you're looking for a little adventure. It's out in the sticks but worth the drive.

Providence Canyon State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Picnic sites, miles of trails & campgrounds alongside deep, multi-colored canyons.
An unforgettable stop at Providence Canyon State Park! Absolutely breathtaking — photos simply don’t do it justice. Seeing the canyon in person gives you such an appreciation for its incredible size and beauty. We learned at the end of our visit that the overlook is on the left before the welcome center, so be sure to stop there first! From the welcome center, you can explore a variety of beautiful trails suited for all experience levels. It truly feels like walking through a painting. This is definitely a must-see!
Danny B — Google review
A neat place to see interesting rock formations and walk some trails Providence Canyon, often called Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon,” is in some ways a “diamond in teh rough” and in other ways rundown. It is a worthwhile stop about 28 miles southwest from Plains. The park offers several short trails and overlooks that make it easy to take in the colorful canyon walls without needing to hike for hours. The visitors center is small but informative, and the staff is friendly. The center explains the park’s history — including how this landscape formed from poor 19th-century farming practices that caused massive erosion. The result today is a maze of deep gullies and cliffs striped with red, orange, and white layers of clay that look a lot like parts of Grand Canyon or Bryce Canyon. There are trails that start at the center to go down into the canyon and provide interesting views. I think the views from the top of the canyon that you can drive to are really nice. But, with all that said, the park could use a bit more upkeep. Some of the wooden viewing platforms and railings are showing their age, and a few paths could benefit from fresh gravel and clearer signage. Still, the raw beauty of the canyons more than makes up for it. It’s a great half-day trip — a little rough around the edges but full of color and good sights/views. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. Enjoy!

It was great experience! We enjoyed walk and 2 trails. We packed our lunch from home they have nice picnic tables. If you are planning to visit you must have good shoes, googles, snacks, water bottle, sunscreen, hat. Plan to go early morning then you will enjoy all trails. Best for photography.view is awesome! Camping is also there . It features massive gullies and canyons as deep as 150 feet, with soil that has beautiful pink, orange, red, and purple colors. But the Main fact is the canyons were not formed naturally by a river. They were created in the 1800s by massive soil erosion caused by poor farming practices.

Providence Canyon State Park is a beautiful and unique spot for a day outdoors with the family. The canyon views are amazing, and the colorful rock walls feel like something out of the Southwest. There are two main trails: a shorter 2-hour hike and a longer 7-hour loop, so it’s best to plan ahead based on your time and energy. We stuck with the shorter trail, and it was perfect with kids. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes—some areas are muddy or wet—and bring plenty of water, especially on warmer days. The trails aren’t crowded, and there are restrooms and a visitor center on site. Great for families who want a little adventure without a packed crowd!

A truly unique experience! I explored Canyons 1 through 5 from both the top and down below. The views were absolutely breathtaking— each vantage point offered something different and unforgettable. Highly recommend for anyone who loves dramatic landscapes and scenic beauty. I will hopefully be returning in the future.
Michael M — Google review
Gorgeous! The vires from the overlooks are stunning but if you're able, don't skip walking the floor of the canyon! Feels like you're in another world down there. The canyon floor does stay wet... Not squishy wet but a trickle of water flowing over sandy ground. Waterproof boots are recommended, but I did fine just treading lightly in regular tennis shoes. Well maintained and clear trail on Canyon Loop trail, but Also be prepared to climb steep hills.
Amber F — Google review
Unbelievable views this is a must stop. If you love to go backpacking in the backcountry or even just for a 3 mi hike or just as for the canyons this is a great place to go only $5 for the day for the canyons. Beautiful scenery , unforgettable!

CBS SUNDAY MORNING ended a show with video from this park. We were so intrigued that we started researching it for our October 2025 road trip. We are so glad we came. It was incredible! We visited the visitor center the first day, before it closed at 5. Rangers were friendly and helpful. We got a map for our hike the next day, and bought some provisions for our stay at a Florence Marina State Park cabin up the road. The next day we hiked down the steep, rocky terrain to the signs for all the trails. We chose Canyons 4-5, which were flat, and less wet & less difficult to hike than Canyons 1-3, and other trails. The views were spectacular! We noticed the puddles of water & wondered why some were silvery and bright. When we asked the ranger in the visitor center, she didn't know. The hike back up to the visitor center required several stops at Boy Scout donated benches. Thank you, Boy Scouts! My asthmatic lungs needed the respites. At the visitor center, we used the boot cleaning mats and hose to wash off the red clay of Ga. On the way out of the park, we stopped at the restrooms on the right of the road. This is where we got the BEST photos! Stop, get out and walk to the fences. You will be thrilled with the view. We were. This is our now favorite park in GA.

My boyfriend and I visited in the beginning of summer and had a wonderful time! The owners are so sweet and the wine is some of the best we have ever tasted. They were clean, respectful, and so funny. Everyone should go. We look forward to visiting again one day.

My husband and I visited in early June 2024 and had a wonderful time. We tasted many wines. Over the weekend we had visited several wineries in West GA and enjoyed Five Points Berries Wines the Best. The owners were very hospitable and made us feel right at home. We came away with LOTS of wine for the summer!
Laura M — Google review
The new owners have kept the same wonderful flavors with a few extra wines that they are testing. They are very knowledgeable and wonderful to talk with. Bring your snacks/charcuterie board. There is a space to enjoy it. You got to feed the alcohol. Be advised that there is a mile drive down a dirt road to the winery.
Shonnase W — Google review
Wonderful wine. Reasonably priced. Fun experience tasting the wines. They made us feel so special.
Kris W — Google review
What a fantastic experience at our wine-tasting there! The owner is EXTREMELY personable and helpful, and most importantly, they have GREAT wines that are out-of-the-ordinary! They do not just add fruit-flavoring to grape wine, but create their wines by fermenting the actual fruit. This is an EXCELLENT Georgia product and experience. We are 'hooked' as dedicated customers.
Denny C — Google review
Great wine, very generous with their tastings. Make sure you take some home!

I wish I could give this place 10 stars because my friend and I had an AWESOME experience at our wine tasting. Wanda and Joe, the owners, are so personable and very knowledgeable about their products! I recommend this "off the beaten path" winery for your visiting a winery list! Thanks for a great experience!
Brenda C — Google review
I would absolutely love love love to give this winery 5 stars ; however, I can NOT… while Wanda was kind, talkative and knowledgeable about the wines…. She has got to be more conscious of touching her hair, her nose, her eye…etc and any other place that she touched and DID NOT wash her hands or sanitize and I’m definitely NOT a germaphobe but this is not a good look…..and also…. The Hillbilly Bubbly was flat and she cautioned me that it might be… well if you know that…. Uuhhhh get rid of it cause it… sell it for half price or something because it was not worth the full price!

Devyn J — Google review
We full-time RV travel, and recently chose Lakepoint State Park for a three-night stop on our route. Upon arrival we followed directions for check-in and drove over to the marina. We wondered why the building at the entrance to the park was not used for check-in, but as we looked around in it, it was abandoned except for possible offices? Not sure. The website states check in is at 4pm, but the nice young lady that assisted us in the marina told us check-in is any time after noon due to the marina office closing at 4pm. We received our map and truck window display tag and drove to our site. The road was decent to the campground area. The gate was open so we did not have to enter the provided gate key pad code. We used the code on other days during our stay when we exited and re-entered the campground area. Our site was a pull thru full hookup spot in Deer Court campground. It provided a grassy area, a picnic table, and a fire pit. The site was quite messy with sticks and pine needles. The asphalt was either broken or covered with stones and needles. We had plenty of room for our 35-foot trailer and tow vehicle. The Deer Court campground had one restroom/shower facility. It was decent. The campground has areas with worn and broken roads, but it was okay to enter and exit as well as to take walks. Close by was a boat dock with a walking path to get to the dock. Cautionary alligator signs near all water locations. Trash was very full and overflowing. There was a dog park near the building at the entrance to the park and a laundromat near the campground gate area with four washer and three dryers. It was an okay place to stay but as a State Park we would expect more from it. It felt quite neglected.

It's beautiful here. The lodge here is incredible. They have a pool it's kid and dog friendly the bath house is OK. They have hiking and motorized trails. For being a state park upkeep cpuld of been alot better. The lodge is very nice They have cottages that is worth renting. Also they have boat launches at the lodge area and also within the park. You can go fishing . They have catfish and crappie and nice size one you can clean and eat

My family and I enjoyed our visit and stay at the campground at Lakepoint State Patk. This was our first visit. We visited in mid-July. The campground was not crowded. The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed. It did not seem very busy or overcrowded, which we enjoyed. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There are 2 restaurants onsite; one at the marina and one at the lodge. The one at the marina was closed and was not open for the year. The one at the lodge is open. The breakfast buffet is good, but I did not care too much for the lunch buffet.

I've been to several state parks throughout the state, and this one, by far, has been the most disappointing. The playground/picnic area was very small, and the roads were okay. There was not a lot of activity (boat or fishing), which made it feel a bit desolate. On another note, the views were great.

Definitely worth a stop, we stopped in to have some suds after our excursion in Providence Canyon. It really kind of goes hand in hand after a long day of walking in sightseeing and hiking. It's definitely worth a trip it's an old school house which is really cool and it's owned by the town dentist. Beers were good It's definitely worth to check out

I came across this place in my travels years ago, but forgot about it. Thanks to my SIL & BIL for the reminder. What an oasis in a dessert. Lots of space to be what you want to be. Shoot some pool, play a game, chill in the cool tap room or enjoy the fresh air on the patio. In the 70s in March, yes please! Lots of points for only having 1 IPA 😉. The hefe is pretty good, as well as the IPA according to my husband. I was indecisive on a sparkling water so I tried Dad's special after the recommendation. Looks like pink lemonade, but so good. Too bad we had to head out before the entertainment. Friendly staff and looks to look at on the walls. The food truck was great, too. The Cuban was plenty for both of us.

What a great gathering place. It has so much to offer. Pool tables, a viewing room, a party room , bar and an outdoor space. Could ask for much more in a brewery. Beers a good but also offer wine, seltzers and other type of drinks all made by them. Must check out the big brewery in the small town of Omaha, Georgia

Quality brewery! First time at Omaha Brewing Company, and enjoyed it a lot. The space itself is really nice with multiple seating options, the beer is tasty, and the staff is super friendly and very conversational. Had three beers while here; a banana forward Hefeweizen, kölsch, and imperial brown ale with the brown ale being my favorite. Overall, great space with enjoyable beer and an awesome staff. My phone switched over to central time here, which I found confusing, but rest assured it’s EST. Almost pointlessly waited an hour for it to open.

My hubs and I just happened upon this little gem! We saw a sign passing through town and thought we'd check it out. It was so fun, and I'm glad we made time to try it out. They have beer, wine, and sparkling water options, so there's something for everyone! As far as food, there were food trucks out back with picnic tables and a couple of corn hole boards. It's just a great atmosphere to hang out and unwind. They also had live music, which was fun, and they were also pet friendly. We met a sweet couple and chatted with them for a little bit. Overall, I love this place! I wish we had one closer to our area.

Great brewery! Staff is helpful and friendly. We enjoyed a flight of sparkling seltzers and wine, and got some seltzer to go! It’s a huge place where you can hang out with friends. You can even bring your own food to eat, then enjoy a game of pool or play some games. We want to come back on a Saturday when they have food trucks and live music to enjoy! Don’t miss Omaha Brewing Co if you are in the area visiting Providence Canyon or Florence Marina State Park!

The National Infantry Museum far exceeded all of our expectations and it’s easy to see why it has consistently earned the title of America’s #1 Best Free Museum. From the moment we stepped inside, we were met with an incredibly well-designed, thoughtful, and immersive experience that pays deep respect to the history, sacrifices, and heroism of the American infantry. What truly sets this museum apart is the level of detail and dedication poured into every exhibit. It covers a vast span of U.S. military history—from the American Revolution all the way through present-day conflicts—with each war and military campaign given its own distinct space and identity. The displays are not only historically accurate and educational, but they’re also emotionally powerful. You don’t just walk through history—you feel it. We were especially impressed by the interactive and VR experiences, which added a whole new level of engagement and excitement for everyone in our group. The museum does a phenomenal job of blending traditional exhibits with modern technology to keep visitors of all ages involved and interested. Our group ranged from ages 17 to 51, and every single one of us walked away not only entertained but deeply moved and better informed. The care and respect shown toward the stories of real soldiers, both past and present, is evident throughout the museum. From the Hall of Valor to the Last 100 Yards ramp—every section was meaningful, inspiring, and beautifully executed. It’s honestly hard to believe that admission is free, given the quality of the experience. If you’re anywhere near Columbus, Georgia, this is a must-visit destination. Whether you’re a history buff, military family, or simply someone who wants to better understand and appreciate the courage and sacrifice of our nation’s infantry, this museum is truly one of a kind. We left with full hearts, great memories, and a deep sense of appreciation. Five stars without a doubt.

Stopped in for a visit and was more than pleased to see the care taken with the visitors center and associated grounds. A $5 admission fee provides access to an auto trail or leisurely 1.5 mile walk about the park. A memorial to the Trail of Tears is on the hill behind the visitors center. A ball field replica can also be found at the top of the hill. Back into the car for a short trip to the Carriage House and family burial plot. Continue down the road to the location and replica of where Fort Mitchell once stoop on the road from Macon to New Orleans. Worth a 90-120 minute stop for a picnic lunch with a good sampling of local history.

Very friendly and informative staff. We watched the 15 minute film and walked through the indoor museum before exploring the grounds. The carriage house was interesting and a nice break from the heat. I liked being able to enter the various buildings but there were a lot of bumble bees buzzing around the entrances. Heard about Pioneer Days and wish we were in town to check it out.

Really enjoyed our time here. The museum was really nicely done with also a movie to learn it's history. We went when they had a fall festival so we got to see vendors outside, saw the inside the Carriage House, ride a tram to the fort when normally you'd drive up to it. They really have done a nice job in preserving it. They also have the Eternal Flame monument at the top of the hill in the back that's a must see. It represents the ceremonial fire the Native Americans built in the center of their villages before traveling the "Trail of Tears.' 🙏Very heart touching..🙏

The visitor center offers a good introduction to the site, which is the real gem here. The artifacts are interesting and kids will enjoy pressing the button to make the steam whistle blow. The reconstructed fort and Indian Heritage Memorial make the park well-worth the admission.
