We visited Yellowhawk for a wine tasting with our group of 12 to celebrate my daughter's upcoming wedding. George Ann made it an extra special experience for us sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for the wines she creates. She even taught my daughter and her maid of honor how to sabre the cork from the bottle and created keepsake tree ornaments from the corks, which made a perfect memento of the weekend. Not only was the experience special, the wines were delicious and the grounds are spectacular! I recommend Yellowhawk to everyone, especially if you love a good sparkling wine. Thank you George Ann for an experience none of us will ever forget!

There is no way to go wrong with stunning views, gorgeous buildings, and yummy champagne. We did not stay in the resort, but rather just opted to do a champagne tasting. Despite not being guests of the resort, we were treated very well by our server. Her descriptions of each bottle were extremely accurate, and I loved her knowledge. I always love it when the server knows the wines intimately and can give information beyond surface level. We particularly liked the Vinyard Select XT Blanc.

Yellowhawk is almost overwhelming, to normal folk we just don’t see places as extravagant as this. It is quite literally the nicest building that I have ever scene. After picking some brains we learned it was a place you rent for weddings or big events. But for us it was for Bubbles! Our only bubble stop this trip we got to suck down some tasty drinks while enjoying the endless view.

In July 2024, We had our 9th Annual Family Reunion at Yellowhawk Resort (Formerly Basel Cellars) In Walla Walla.. Our family and friends gather from Spokane and Vancouver, WA, California, Arizona and Montana. We continue to go back each Summer as the Beautiful Estate House with it's gourmet kitchen, multiple dining rooms and 8 bedroom suites works perfectly for our family and friends to enjoy a few days of visiting, swimming, a BBQ and just relaxing.. They also have a wonderful sparkling wine tasting room next door.. Sivi, Roxy, Dan, Shannon and Woody, and all the Basel and YH Staff has been wonderful to us over the years.. As the new ownership group also owns The Walla Steak Co and the T-Post Tavern we also make a point to have dinner at those restaurants..They have excellent food and service! I would recommend all three locations for locals or visitors traveling to WW.. We look forward to going back next Summer... The Sunrise over the Blue Mountains and the evening sunsets are amazing...🌄

We stopped at Yellowhawk Tasting Room on vacation to check out the sparkling wine. My friends and I really enjoyed their wine and the location was beautiful. I then decided to bring a travel group of 25 people back to Yellowhawk. We were BLOWN AWAY by the beautiful surroundings, service, food, and wine! We were set up outside under a private tent with a food and wine pairing. Winemaker George-Anne talked to us about each wine and answered all our questions. FANTASTIC experience!

Don’t bother. Made a reservation a month ago. We came from over 250 miles away. At 7:47 pm tonight (the night before our reservation)they called us and told us they were closed tomorrow

We had such a blast tasting wines here! We stopped in last minute as we had just pulled into town, and they were able to accommodate us. Linda was so personable, knowledgeable, and great with our kids. I’m not a big fan of whites and rosés, and the ones I tasted here were really good in my opinion. Bought a couple cabs. They waive 1 tasting fee with purchase.

I went for a tasting over Easter weekend for a friend’s birthday. The experience was good until it was time to close out. The staff member was struggling with their machine stating it was new. She ran my card multiple times and as a result I ended up with two charges near $400 each on my card. I contacted the winery they informed me that they were aware but not sure how to issue a refund. They told me that they were working on it and would be in touch. A week went by with no word, I reached out and received no response. I contacted my credit card company to file a claim and it was after that, that I got a text from Amavi again telling me that they were still working on figuring out how to refund my money. It took 6 weeks before my $381 was returned. Im pretty sure that I wouldn’t have been able to take my 6 bottles of wine without payment, noting that once I figured out how to pay that I would. Yet, I guess that they think it’s appropriate to hold on to nearly $400 of my money. I got an apology for my frustrations and a thank you for my patience, but I had to keep reaching out and push for my refund. I’m truly disappointed with this entire experience.

Linda hosted us today at Amavi, what a gem! We walked in right at opening having an hour to kill before a reservation. She had us in and out without any stress. The Syrahs here are phenomenal and unique, not your typical Syrah notes for sure! A nice view, plenty of seating options and felt genuinely taken care of.

Wonderful Experience. This is a must see in Walla Walla. Laid back atmosphere - Great wine and selection. The Winery only blends were superb. Campbell helped us - He is awesome and we joined the wine club for all his help. Thank You !

Insightful and fun tasting experience! Friendly service, great atmosphere, and knowledgeable family staff.

Our experience at Amavi was excellent and it was our favorite of the wineries we visited in Walla Walla. We had the pleasure of mainly having Stephanie serve us, who was pleasant, informative and fun. We felt appreciated and well attended to. Two other ladies served us as well. The grounds were beautiful and the building too. I suggest requesting the south or west patio if you want to sit outside in the sun and it's also got comfier seating. The north or east side can be shady and cooler. We didn't know and we ended up on the entryway patio. But overall, it was great.
Kyler B — Google review
Visited Amavi this last weekend with a group of friends. This is the second time we have been there. Both times we had great service and wine. We ordered two bottles of wine for the table, a Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon that did not disappoint. Our waiter Patrick was very attentive even though we were outside in the gazebo out a ways from the tasting room. Will be returning.

Stopped by Amavi Cellars with my wife on our “fact-finding mission” for her bottle shop job in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. It was our fifth stop in Walla Walla and my first time at Amavi. The 2024 Sémillon was a standout: bright, floral, and crisp with just the right citrus snap — I only highlight this because I have grown tired of whites and the many and varied offerings of Sémillon from Walla Walla wineries were a surprise. The staff was delightful, the view was stunning, and we left with a few bottles (including the 2022 Ceres). A wonderful surprise and an easy five stars.

This was my favorite winery of our whole day. ( This was a 5 stop winery tour! ) So big props to Pepper Bridge. I knew I was going to love this special little place just from their website and how cute it looked. Reservations were easy and the small detail of having my name printed on the tasting sheet upon arrival! Such a nice touch! We had two servers during our tasting - each full of information but didn't linger and just gave us the right amount of small talk. I fell in love with the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc and had to buy a bottle. The scenery is beautiful, the inside tasting room is also lovely - but def. sit on the patio! The view is stunning and so relaxing. This is the only winery out of the day I would come back to. Great job team! I can't wait to come back!

Beautiful property and tasty wines. Did a morning tasting earlier this week. Our guide was informative, and we had a chance to meet Norm the owner. Very gracious and humble man. Could sit on their balcony and stare at the mountains and their grapes all day....as long as I had a glass of their Cab with me.

We have been members for many years and always enjoyed Pepper Bridge Wineries consistently great wines. Visiting the Walla Walla tasting room this week we truly enjoyed Devon in our tasting experience. Super knowledgeable he is a great am ambassador for the winery.

What a beautiful and amazing first wine tour experience my friends and I!! Highly recommend this location for anyone. Great views to amazing tasting experience, the lunch provided from an outer source was perfect and went even better with the wine selections. Not one of the selections was ‘disliked’. Our tour guide Reagan was kind, fun, and very knowledgeable with great answers to all questions. He even called a partner winery if they had space for us to continue wine tastings close by (Amavi, another amazing experience also) and was so blessed to have that option due to his generous idea to call for us!! What a gem and truly loves what he does. Brianna was whom I coordinated over the phone and via email. She was spectacular and always available when needed. Never put on hold and gave us the whole experience we hoped for and more!! My group and I plan to tell everyone about PepperBridge winery and their surrounding partners. Planning to make this trip for more wonderful memories in the near future. Cheers everyone!

Lovely place to sit and view the vineyards with a glass of vino. We brought our own snacks and sipped some good wines. Definitely worth a visit but make a reservation! Olympic Otter

"The real deal" in Walla Walla. Pepper Bridge is one of the founding and foundational producers here; they specialize in Bordeaux varieties and blends, very well grown and beautifully crafted. The style is classic Walla Walla - rich, dense, fully extracted while wonderfully balanced and nuanced. The winery is quaint with beautiful views, and the service staff is warm and knowledgable. Walla Walla at it's very best!
Greg W — Google review
We decided to visit Pepper Bridge for our first ever winery tour based on the recommendation of a friend. We loved it! Stefan was our tour guide, he was very knowledgable and friendly! He was willing to answer all of our questions (which we had a lot of, as we're new to learning about wine) and he instantly made us feel welcomed. We decided to add a tasting after the tour and it was a lovely experience. It was so peaceful looking over the tranquil vineyards while enjoying their current wine selections. I highly recommend visiting Pepper Bridge for a tour.

Loved the wine tour with Norm! You can tell that there is a lot of love and attention to detail in the winemaking process. While there, we also did the Intro to Food and Wine Pairing, and it was a deliciously wonderful experience.

For our 25th wedding anniversary, I wanted to find unique experiences to enjoy, and the blending experience at Northstar was perfect! We spent two hours learning about wine, what our taste buds prefer and creating our own red blends. Can’t wait to toast with our wine next year!
Jenn C — Google review
I have always had delightful experiences at Northstar! This year we booked their Food and Wine Pairing experience, and it blew us away! There was a spiced turkey meatball, a buttery polenta cake with various mushrooms, a really delicious kebab skewer, and of course amazing companion wines that really complimented each dish. Our server was an absolutely delightful angel who really knew her stuff! She was attentive, really fun to chat with, and made us feel very special. I loved picking her brain about the different wines, and she was never stumped by a single question (I ask a lot of them). When I mentioned that I was surprised a merlot wasn't in the tasting, she immediately got me some merlots to try. I ended up liking one so much that I bought a large format bottle of it! I think at this point I just have to make Northstar an annual visit whenever we are in the area. It is just hard to stay away from a winery that has such excellent wine and staff!
Rebecca F — Google review
Absolutely delighted to finally get here today. Royal Caribbean introduced me to Northstar many moons ago (2012?) and have been enjoying the Merlot ever since. Thank you Karie & staff today for an exceptional tasting and “tour” of wine info. Thanks for accommodating us. Reservations recommended though.
Jenna C — Google review
We enjoyed our visit to Northstar Winery so much. Our sommelier (wine steward/expert) Ayana was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. It was a pleasure talking with her and even though she was splitting her time with 2 other parties we never felt rushed or that her attention was elsewhere. We did the standard $20 tasting flight, Ayana brought each wine to us separately, told us a little about the wine and then gave us time to enjoy it before bringing the next sample. She asked us our opinions of the wines and we discussed them a little between glasses too. We have been to 8 wineries in the past 4 days and she was by far the best sommelier we have had.
Anthony N — Google review
Beautiful setting, generous tastings, and left with six bottles(Stella’ Maria, cab, and merlot). They have wonderful staff and we felt right at home. Beautiful setting on their patio. Brought our own picnic lunch and they offered us plates, napkins, and cutlery.
Kristi T — Google review
Awesome tasting room experience, lovely wine and the charcuterie was delish too!
Bonnie W — Google review
Solid group of wines. Oooh, that 2015 Premier Merlot is delish. Do the blending experience with Jan - so fun. Picturesque & pretty patio.

I had the privilege of staying here while my honey and his crew were working in College Place for 6 weeks. This is a beautiful well cared for park is the perfect retreat for recharging your soul. Being next to the river is peaceful, and fishing it is even better. The camp hosts, Chip, Chad, and Pat and her Husband Rob were wonderful people. Chip was so kind to share the history of the area and converse with. Lots of wildlife hanging around. Had the liberty of hanging out with the deer, they enjoy the apple trees in the camp ground. Saw Mama bear and two cubs hanging around the apple trees too.
Stephanie W — Google review
We spent two nights in our trailer at Harris Park, after first visiting it in 2017. It is a very relaxing, peaceful place, right by the little Walla Walla River. There is not a lot to do nearby, so it is a great place if you just want to chill and enjoy the river and the huge meadow in the campground, and short walks. We saw so many deer and wild turkeys throughout the morning, day, and evening. The river had some dammed up places that would’ve been fun to play at, if I were a kid (Also, a nice playground )😊 Unfortunately, there is no sewer hook up available, just water and electric. The restroom is clean, but no showers and just a one stall bathroom. But it was not busy when we were there during the week, and I never had to wait my turn. We were impressed with the large group facilities available to be reserved. The host and the maintenance guy were both extremely friendly to visit with and did a great job at their jobs. We stayed in space #12, which got a little hot in the afternoons, but had a beautiful view of the meadow. There is no Wi-Fi or cell service available in this park.
BL W — Google review
Beautiful area. Plenty of hiking trails and photo opportunities. RV spots go from gravel to paved. Good electric and water connection but no sewer due to the river being so close. Would be nice if they allowed connection to WiFi since their isn't any cell service.
Ben M — Google review
We had a group that camped at the Meadow. It is a nice grassy open area. There is electric and power hookups. This area sits up above the river..nice to hear the water. This is a nicely maintained park that also has picnic area. The camp spots are nicely spaced so you are not right on top of your neighbors. The bathrooms are single use but large and easily wheelchair accessible...BUT...No showers..😕(thus the 4 stars). They are working on expanding the camping area but it is not complete. ALSO...BE AWARE.. there is NO wifi or cell service in this area..not a problem for us but might be for others. There is also a trailhead you can hike, not sure how far it goes or where it goes to. Staff is friendly and helpful!!! We are looking forward to returning, hopefully for a drier visit.
Gwen P — Google review
This is one of our favorite places to go. The grounds are so well cared for and you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, but you're just thirteen miles from town. Every camp site is nice. This time we stayed in one right on the river and the view and sounds were amazing. The manager Chip is a great guy. Friendly, helpful and fun to talk to. 5 stars. A+
J B — Google review
Very lovely easy stay and we stayed in spot 12. There are electrical plug ins, river spots next to a big flat field. There is a deer that walked up to our car and took a strawberry from me. Very strange behavior so I suspect it is a pet deer. We named it “Oh Deer.” If you see it. They left a bundle of wood out for us for around 5 dollars and at the moment there are no fire bans. There is a nice fire pit, table. The field is nice for some yoga and contemplative resting. There are alpaca farms around. And beautiful hills.
Jennifer L — Google review
I love this trail! There is a campground at the trail head for people that just want to hike in a bit and go back and camp. The trail actually goes for almost 19 miles and winds up back in Washington. I hike and camp this trail. You are close enough to the water that you don't need to pack any. I use my pump filter and get water right out of the Walla Walla river for drinking and cooking. I hike about 6-7 miles in, make camp and eat dinner. I do the same thing on day 2. Day 3 I hike a fair amount of the way back and camp again. Day 4 I hit the parking lot and head back home. This trail is great for hiking, mountain biking or motorcycles. I recommend it for anything you want to do. Perfect for a family that just wants to camp at the trail head and do some trail hiking. Also perfect for an outdoor person that wants to park, hike, camp, and keep hiking! Beautiful scenery and a really great trail.
Pacific H — Google review
Harris Park is amazing! It not only has a clean beautiful campground right on the Walla Walla River, the surrounding scenery is breathtaking! If you have never taken a hike in the mountains... I recommend Harris Park and the trails it offers, the landscape is phenomenal!

Eagle Cap Excursion Train

Rail Tours
The best train experience, few as we've had, that we have ever had. The train was in excellent condition, just don't try and adjust the window shade. The volunteers were kind, helpful, informative, and fun. Max was a hoot. Our trip was the 3.5 hour "Fall Colors" excursion. While many of the trees in this area are evergreen, a lot of the smaller bushes, grasses, and other plants still provide a bountiful cornucopia of color. Entering the train, seats are first come first served. One thing I loved about this ride is how they handled the view. To ensure everyone received views of the river side, passengers switch sides before making the return trip. If you want to get some different views, you are permitted to go look out the open windows between cars or you can go to the baggage car that has large open windows on either side. It makes for a fantastic experience. This trip included a meal at the return point. We elected for the chicken almond salad. It was good, with the highlight being the pumpkin spice cupcake for dessert. Other food options were a taco salad (vegan it non-vegan), ham and cheese sandwich, and a standard house salad. If you want to get some pictures or video without any photo bombers, meal time is ideal. While everyone is eating, go to your favorite spots to get some pictures and videos. It is an ideal time to do so. For overnight stays in the area: May's Place Bed and Breakfast is where we stayed for the night. In downtown Elgin, it is a quaint place that is within walking distance of the train station. You'll need to book another night if you don't want to check out before leaving for the train. Elgin is near LA Grande, with lots of hotels. If you want to be more budget friendly, Wallowa Lake State Park is less than an hour away and has RV and tent spots starting at just over $20/night. If you are in an RV, be aware that parking is minimal at the train station and most spots will not accommodate an RV or a trailer of any kind. Overall, this trip is incredible and we plan on going on some of their other trips next year. I highly recommend looking through their offerings and finding one that interests you. You won't be disappointed.

We had such a wonderful time on the autumn colors train ride! We just visited in mid October 2023 and this was our first time ever on a train. The staff made us feel so special, specifically setting us in a specific area of the train to have a table to ourselves to celebrate our anniversary. Everyone was just so happy to be there and enjoy the ride. The train itself was relatively quiet and the trip was actually relaxing and spacious compared to what we were both expecting. The fall colors were at their peak and so vibrant!! The views were beautiful and we loved the options to move all through the train from inside to outside to lounge areas for fresh air and picture taking. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and plan to come back in the spring next time for the green and wild flowers!

So much fun! Perfect length of a trip. You felt like you got your money's worth but didn't feel as if it was too long either. Went on the bigfoot train, and there were bigfoot sighted across the river. ;) They even gave us bigfoot cookies, which were tasty and cute. The staff were extremely friendly and lovely to talk to. The open air car and the little open air areas you could lean out between cars were definite highlights. There were lots of seating options and it was a casual, family friendly ride. The butterflies attracted to the train as you went through beautiful landscapes was pretty awesome.

We really enjoyed the whole experience. We have 3 younger children and they all had a blast. The staff and volunteers were extremely kind and knowledgeable. Check in was quick and easy and and lunch they served made for a smooth afternoon with kids. And all of this was done so well while still adhering to covid protocols. We were impressed all the way around. We booked the ride with the robbery and the kids got such a kick out of the experience. During our trip we also got to see 2 bears, Coyotes, a Bald Eagle, several deer and some beautiful scenery so we really got lucky. We look forward to going back sometime and highly recommend the Eagle Cap train ride for everyone!

Went on their fall colors tour and it was such a great experience... the train was beautiful inside and out and the train crew were all so happy ,friendly and welcoming they truly want you to have the best experience you can.. the train moves at a comfortable pace that makes taking pictures pretty easily.. the river and trees along with the fall colors made for a beautiful ride with lots to see.. The lunch was a ham and cheese sandwich with potato salad , grapes and a chocolate cupcake and it was absolutely delicious... all in all a very wonderful experience and definitely recommend doing it..

A great experience to ride on the historic Joseph Branch Rail Line along the Grande Ronde River to the junction of the Wallowa River. The conductor asked me if I wanted to ride in the locomotive car of the train for the first part of the trip. It was interesting to find out how a train operates with a great view along the way. The train engineers were very friendly and showed me different wildlife along the river. The special theme of this trip was an old west train robbery was the with cowboys on horses shooting their guns. The train travels at ten miles an hour along the steep curves and heavy timber of the Grande Ronde River. It is possible to see wildlife and birds if you look along the river area. Located on Depot Street in Elgin near the Wallowa Lake Highway. Reservations are required on their website. The special themed trip took about four hours roundtrip. A very unique experience to ride on a historic train route with a number of different themes throughout the year with friendly staff, great views and memories that will last you a lifetime.

The Lodge at Hot Lake Springs

Hotel
Spas & Wellness
Casual B&B set in a restored 1864 hotel offering hot spring tubs, a day spa & a sculpture gallery.
We had a great time! Our first time visiting this Lodge and it didn’t disappoint. The room 213 was beautiful and very clean. The soaking pools were very nice and there is a cold plunge which I loved. The lodge is next to the highway and a railroad 🛤️, something to keep in mind if you’re a light sleeper. We did eat at the restaurant which had reasonably priced food and it was delicious. We do plan to come back 🫶

We came over labor day weekend for 3 nights, so got a good taste of how the place was run The staff was outstanding the entire time. Even though they were putting on a live music event, they took time to make sure we were happy. The bartender and cook in the pub were super helpful, and the food and drinks tasty. Even the night crew made sure I enjoyed the hot tubs. Thank you so much! The new rectangular tubs were turned on just in time for our visit. That means 4 larger square tubs under a beautiful shade structure, 3 round tubs near the lake, a larger rock tub, and an old hot plunge were available. A cold plunge and 2 gas fire pits made for a really nice experience. Our room was very comfortable and cool over the hot weekend. Please come visit this place. Beautiful, friendly place not far from the highway!

My girlfriend and I went for our birthday here and it did not disappoint! To be honest I was more than impressed and it all exceeded my expectations. The staff are all friendly and you can tell that they love being there. The pools, the vibe, the rooms. All of it GREAT. Not to mention the pub and prices are more than fair. Will be returning as much as I can and have already been telling people about this magical place. When you go say "hi" to Rocky, the resident cat!

The workers were all very accommodating. It's a small town and everyone seems friendly and approachable. The water temps were nice and hot. The hottest being about 105 and the coolest being about 100. There is also a plunge pool. We went on a Wednesday which was buy one entry, get one free day. Carp can be seen swimming in the 180 degree lake (crazy). The food was pretty good. They don't have any mixed drinks, or a full bar, and no espresso machine, improvements that I hope will come in the future. The rooms look clean and spacious, and they have nicely redone common areas.

We stayed in room 206, moody vibes. T'was moody and a bit dark, but chill. I wish I had known that the clawfoot tub was fed by waters from the hot lake, because then I totally would've soaked in there, too. The outdoor tubs by the lake are beautiful and the waters were amazing. The staff of the hotel and pub were kind and helpful. This place is super unique and I feel incredibly relaxed post visit and three soaks. Thank you for keeping this place going and I wish all the best in the rest of the restoration.

We spent this past weekend in a room and enjoyed the soaking tubs. It was so peaceful and relaxing. We watched a movie in the theater, took walks and enjoyed board games in the atrium, my husband even played his acoustic guitar out there. No tv was the best part! The new owners took over in 2021, prior, the hotel had been vacant about 15 years and left to run down. They have made some incredible improvements in 4 years❤️ It was a great experience and my husband and I loved everything! The pub was fun, food and drink were great all of the staff were polite and helpful. We will be back at least yearly if not more. Thank you for all you are doing to return this amazing hotel to its glory!

The new owners really did a nice job remodeling this place. It looks absolutely amazing! The rooms are fantastic and the soaking tubs are relaxing. Lots of history in this old hotel and I also have a great restaurant and bar. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Had a great time and will come again.

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hot Springs RV down the road but soaked at the Hot Springs Lake Resort. The facility was very nice and the soak was great-I liked that there were several choices of soaking pools! Would love to come back and stay in one of the historic lodge hotel rooms!

We really enjoyed ourselves on the Christmas Train! If you are somewhat local, you can’t miss it! We went on a Sunday at 11am. It was real cold but we did fine in the open air car (there are 2) with all of our layers. The train ride is about 30 mins. Once in Sumpter at The Depot, some of our kids played outside in the snow while a few waited in line to see Santa. It was a long wait but Santa gave each group 5+ minutes of undivided attention. Snacks were cookies, donuts, candy, and cuties. Cocoa table was packed but we just waited and it was fine. Cute little picture taking setup around back. Then 30 mins back on the train. Our kids are age 3-13 years and they all had fun!! Staff was friendly and funny on the train 🚂

We had an amazing train ride for my son’s birthday. The weather was perfect, the train ride was just the right length with beautiful scenery. We can’t wait to come back again for a train robbery next time.

Great experience riding the Sumpter Valley Railroad. Every volunteer staff member was helpful, friendly, and made our trip fun. We were lucky/fortunate to get to ride in the engine with Engineer John. Would highly recommend riding the train. We will be making this trip again this next summer.

It was closed, we missed it being open by a few days. Next time we will chech their schedule first. Walking about the rail yard was fun. If you do walk the yard, use common sense as there are multiple hazards about.

It was closed. We were disappointed because it looked awesome. Still snow.. Took a few pics anyways. Will go back in the warmer months.

If you have time, I recommend a train ride at the Sumpter Depot. It was a nice tour of the historical mining town.

We had a great time on the steam engine train ride to Sumpter. The scenery was lovely, and the crew had a lot of information about the history of trains in that area. All crew members were informative and fun! We especially enjoyed the train robbery "show" with our defenders on board the train. A great experience!

Came up on the fall colors train and had enough time to check this place out before heading back down. It's a very cool part of Oregon history and an amazing machine. I can only imagine how noisy it was as it moved along shoveling rocks and spitting them out. It definitely left it mark on the landscape and mother nature is slowly taking it back over time.. definitely worth checking out if you are in the area..

This is the largest gold mining dredge in north America. Great gold rush history for Oregon. Nice walking trails and viewing spots for photos. The Sumpter rail road depot is within walking distance. Unfortunately both were closed on a Wednesday afternoon. But still a fun adventure.
Ken S — Google review
Great park with trails, interpretative signs and interactive history. Take gold panning lessons or tour the dangerous dredge. Walk the trail system or talk to a ranger. Ghost towns and train tours near by. This is a fun community that is fairly small but comes alive with visitors. Memorial Weekend Flea Market is a huge hit!
Scottie M — Google review
For those interested in the history of dredge mining, this location in eastern Oregon offers a fascinating experience. Exploring the dredge is truly captivating, and there is a wealth of historical information about mining in Sumpter, Oregon, and the broader context of mining. It is unfortunate that the television show "Gold Rush" may have negatively impacted this historical site.

Was very interesting to learn how this Dredge worked and all it's history. There was a tour guide with so much information and stories. Recommend visiting there are trails, old equipment to look at, and picnic tables for you to have a meal. Hope everyone has fun.

The Baker Heritage Museum, formerly known as the Oregon Trail Regional Museum, is located in the historic Baker Municipal Natatorium. This two-story museum showcases a wide range of artifacts and interpretive displays that delve into the history of Baker County from the 1860s through the 1960s. The exhibits cover various industries such as agriculture, mining, ranching, and timber, as well as aspects of wildlife and Chinese culture in the area.
A vast array of artifacts and information about the Baker City History found here! The most amazing part was the huge donated rock and fossil collection. Highly recommend as a cool spot to explore and good for all ages.

This is an excellent stop along your drive. The museum is huge and extremely well organized. The rock collection is the coolest part, being donated by women.

This is a fantastic museum showcasing the history of the Baker City area. It also has one of the best mineral and rock collections I have seen. If your in the area, this is the spot to go to. Worth the price of admission. My wife and I thought it would be a quick one, we spent almost 2 hours seeing everything inside. Highly recommended...
Rory S — Google review
I have visited quite a few museums and I have to say for a small town museum this one has a world class gem and minerals exhibit that will amaze you.. then there's the exhibit for one of my favorite movies of all time that was filmed in the area. "Paint Your Wagon" . So if you like rocks and gems, Oregon history and beautiful antiques, you don't want to miss this place.. I definitely recommend stopping by and checking this place out for yourself.. absolutely awesome.. plan for plenty of time because it takes a while to see it all..

Absolute gem. So many interesting displays covering all aspects of Oregonian/Baker City history - guaranteed to find something that grabs your attention. There's more upstairs, too.

Museum docent “Cathy” give us a warm welcome, and which introduction to this unique museum about the history of Baker county. We are Rockhounds who have been to natural history museums from New York to Istanbul, but the rock collection built by two sisters from Baker was by far the most diverse and most spectacular that we have ever seen! A fine exhibition about the local Chinese community was insightful, as was the educational panel set up in front of a bordello room. Tableau’s to show how mining and transportation were set up, along with displays of different shops and offices from the 1800s were very well done. We spent about 90 minutes, and then had a picnic across the street at a lovely little park with tables.
Heidi L — Google review
This Museum is amazing! So worth checking out. Cost is $8 to get in and the amount of things to see from the early days in Oregon is remarkable! Also if you are a rock hound and love nice specimens from the area and beyond with private collections on their stones is fabulous! Don't walk but run to go see this rad Museum!

Loved this museum. After watching 1823, the exhibits of wagons, provisions and stories was fascinating! Many other interesting things to see and learn, you're never too old! The volunteer ladies at the entry were gracious and knowledgeable, it was fun to swap stories with them as well.

Vast museum with dioramas, live presentations & interactive exhibits dedicated to the frontier west.
Don't skip this park if you're passing along I-84 at Baker City Oregon. They offer expert displays and live interactive presentations. The park is only minutes away from the interstate and the entrance is easy to locate. The resrooms are very clean and their water station has the best tasting water. Views from the park are spectacular. You can see Baker City, mountains, the Oregon Trail, and the surrounding areas. Park staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Parking was easy and they have many places to picnic.

Fairly small museum with aging displays. Beautiful location with great views and trails to walk and view old out building and wagon road ruts. Lots to check out near by. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Lots of interaction with the kids around. Activity books and high fives were of plenty. Under $10 for entry. Kids free.

Out of the way Federal site near Baker City, Oregon. Worth visiting. The museum is good. Lots of excerpts from settlers diaries including some actual diaries. Good talk about the Oregon Trail. Long walk to the trail itself. When driving out you can park much closer to the actual trail and take a short walk to the trail.

This is a cool place to stop if you are passing through. Its in the middle of nowhere. The museum is nice with a lot of information. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You can get in with your park passes as well at no cost. The nearby town is pretty nice and a great place to stop after here.

“So what? It’s two ruts in the ground. Who cares?” We visited the interpretive center on a lark while in the area, and came away really moved by what we saw, experienced, and just the whole vibe of the area. This is one of those places that just feels IMPORTANT. Inside the interpretive center is a nice little museum with dioramas and information about the Oregon Trail and the travelers who took that route. Seeing the wagons in person really brings home the magnitude of the journey these people undertook. Then outside, there are multiple paths through the desert scrub to different parts of the Trail itself. And yes, standing in the ruts of the Oregon Trail just filled me with the most amazing vibe… there’s a weight to the place. You feel it. This is absolutely worth a detour to go visit, and my family and planning a return trip for next spring when the desert is blooming. It’ll be gorgeous.
Christian J — Google review
Its a totally must see place. You get a up close look at what life was like back then. If you go, plan on being there for a few hours so you can take the time to really explore the building and give yourself some time to walk along the trail as well. If you have pets that come along, be sure to leave them home because theirs no shade in the parking lot anywhere and they highly recommend you don't leave them in the car.

If you are anywhere near the charming Bakers City then the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is a MUST VISIT !! A beautiful building celebrating a remarkable achievement. The staff we so very helpful. The exhibits giving you a real flavour of the hardship of travelling the Oregon Trail. Very good museum. Very educational. Many lifelike figures and animals. The wagons were authentic. The clothing was authentic, and the models to pack the wagons with all the supplies for the trip were very interesting. The views outside of the building of the Blue Mountains were breathtaking.

Farewell Bend State Recreation Area

State park
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Beautiful, well-maintained campground on the Snake River. All the sites I saw (loop C) have electricity and water. I think some of the others also have sewer. On a Sunday night in August I had most of Loop C to myself. Full restrooms with showers at no extra charge. Spacious level sites have paved access, with plenty of room on the grass to put up a tent or screen room. A few negatives don't outweigh the good things here. There were a lot of bugs. A high gusty wind came up about 10:30 at night and lasted a few hours (otherwise very calm). Fortunately I was warned about the wind by one of my few fellow-campers; it had broken his tent poles the night before. The noise from I-84 a mile or two away is constant, and there is a lot of rail freight traffic across the river. A wildfire in the area earlier this summer burned the surrounding hillsides and right up to the edge of the camping area itself, and along the river bank. There's still some smoke smell. I didn't see any damage to campground facilities or sites. It's good that they keep the grass green.
Charles C — Google review
Very lovely well maintained park. With visible camp hosts available. The pull through trailer sights were very close to perfectly level, and the snake river was very close to the campsite. In hind sight, I understood why the loop closest to the river had more vacancies, the mosquitos are real, and insistent. Glad I had deep woods off towelettes. My pull through was 120, maybe it is called catfish loop? I would encourage you to stay in the closer, upper loops, which I image is further away from the river and mosquitos. The people in the upper loops seemed to be enjoying sitting in their camp chairs unmolested by the hungry horde of these tiny, flying menaces. I will be staying at Farewell Bend again, just in the upper loop.
Sally B — Google review
Good separation of sites, Catfish loop has an old water leak at site 107, more shade on other loops. T mobile cell service good here. Nice views of the river, trains run but no whistles, highway noise not too bad either.
Rachel D — Google review
We were here in late September, extremely windy all night. "Antelope Loop" or "A Loop" has very little wind protection, many of the old trees are gone. B and C loops seem more protected from the wind, but I cannot verify that. Pros: - Bathrooms were very clean. - Great views of the Milky Way. Easy to get to the park, good roads. Cons: - Goathead thorns make bikes impossible, also dangerous for pets. - Could hear the freeway much of the time. - Tons of RV sites, few tent sites with adequate room for an actual tent. Overall it's an easy, affordable place to stop (the extra $10 fee for online booking is annoying though). The wind made for a pretty miserable night and it would have been easy for a tent to fly away without any protections from the wind. I'll probably stay again in B or C loop to see if it's more protected.
Drew K — Google review
It used to have nice green grass and shade but it’s very dry this time thru. There was a recent wildfire that came into the camp between the two loops and along the main road up into the hills. The river was way down exposing a rocky beach and mud. A dog went out and could almost cross to the island walking. Lots of ducks, geese and carp. It is probably best first fishing but not swimming. The sites have electric but no sewer. There is an RV dump onsite. The Brownlee loop is greener with mature trees with lots of shade. The Catfish loop is much dryer with a single tree at each site. It is closer to water views though. There are three free showers not much larger than a bathroom stall that seemed to compete for hot water off the huge propane heating system. Didn’t experience mosquitoes but lots of moths. Wear solid sole shoes and pick out the goat heads before getting into your camper. My flip flops were filled with them walking across the grass.

Renegade 38ft with Jeep. Early August stay. Temps high 80s. Very pretty park with lots of shrubbery & trees. Unfortunately, looks like the area is in a drought but the Park is watered everywhere, daily. Park seems underutilized. Lots of one-nighters. Very quiet park. There's a TA less than a mile away on the Interstate.Site 66B - 50A & water. Asphalt but pretty unlevel. (See photos). Used to boondocking unlevel so we carry extra but after using all the blocks, we were still 1.0 degrees off. But it worked ok. Other sites in the loop look more level. Friendly staff. No AT&T but Starlink was 150mb.Ontario, OR is 22 miles away off the Interstate. Walmart, Albertsons, etc for restocking. We really enjoyed the quiet here. Hidden gem.Keep in mind the park charges for an extra vehicle, like a towed vehicle. We camped at Farewell Bend State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.
Ron G — Google review
We stayed the First week in July and enjoyed our time. My husband caught lots of fish. Which they had a great fish cleaning station for that. Bathrooms and showers were clean and in working order. I just want to let you all know that the camp sites by the Indian burial grounds are the most peaceful and enjoyable sites. We will continue to go back again and again.
Melissa H — Google review
Super nice campground at this state recreation area! It’s right on the Snake River (don’t select A loop which is far from the river and close to the interstate). Ranger Ida came around since we switched our site but couldn’t get reception to change online. She was very friendly and knowledgable. Now we know there is better connection at the dump station! Anyways we took a walk to the river and saw a baby rattlesnake eating a mouse which was cool! Unfortunately we didn’t see or hear the coyotes. The stars were amazing!

Great place to reminisce, or learn area history. Information is provided on many different cultures. This was thought provoking and stirred many conversations in my group. The garden was a memorable experience. The horticulturalist should be proud of providing this area for our enjoyment.

We visited this wonderful museum while we were in the area for a graduation. I'm glad that we did! The entry fee is well worth it. A great, informational video starts the tour. There is a lot of historical information. The exhibits are fantastic. The Japanese Gardens are worth the donation and the views. I will definitely return if we're back in the area. -Regina

This is my second time I've been here, since 2012 nothing has changed. The exhibits gives you a chronological story from the Native Americans, to the miners, and shepherd's; and farmers how they worked hard to transform the desert land into an agricultural land. It also shows you the sad side of how we misplaced the Japanese citizens during WWII. At the end of the exhibit you learn how the emigrants introduced diversity into America with their culture. 🇦🇹🇨🇿🇧🇪🇬🇧🇩🇪🇲🇭.

We have camped here a couple of times and really like it here. The campground is clean and the showers are warm. The flies can be a bit voracious at certain times so bring fly paper. The hosts are very nice and try very hard to keep the grass green even when it is 100° out. The lake is warm in the summer and not too busy since most boaters are just fishermen. The fishing seems to be pretty good. There aren't a lot of beaches but there is a Rocky Beach at the campground to set up shade to hang out during the day. We also anchored our boats off the shore and no one bothered them the whole week. The wind usually picks up in the late afternoon but it's not too bad.

What can't I say. Scary drive in for someone afraid of heights or driving off the road, but if you're not driving, close your eyes because the Park is great! I love it here. It is boating and fishing and swimming paradise. If your not into water related sports, it's probably not for you. There are no real hiking trails out of the park itself but quite a few around the Succor Creek area and Leslie Gulch. The park personal are great and very helpful. The pit toilets are clean. Yes we did have an encounter with a rattlesnake but not in camp. We found one while out boating and exploring. It didn't want anything to do with us. One bad thing is there was a fair amount of dog poo on the beach. Come on people clean up after your dogs.

Loved McCormick Campground at Lk. Owyhee! Late Sept. stay; only a few sites taken. FANTASTIC Ranger staff accommodated our switch to a more scenic site with smiles and offered useful site and local information. WiFi range limited, best near site 16, info board has password. Super clean bathrooms! Watch out for the little "goat's-head" thorns on the grasses - will pop bike tires and bare feet. NO mosquitos but LOTS of flies around any warm/hot surface; bring bug spray & set chairs in shade. Water was comfortable - almost warm! Great for paddle boarding; very little boat traffic/wakes. Hot spring pools just 30 min away. Power & water at all RV sites. Well worth the 7-hour tow of the camper - we WILL be back!!

100% amazing. The picnic areas are clean and fun. Perfect for skipping rocks and paddleboarding. I'd heard rumors of rattlesnakes, but we never saw one. Very quiet, almost nobody else there. Long, narrow drive to the picnic areas - go slow and be nice to the cars passing the other way. Enjoy!

We love coming here, the kids always have a blast feeding the animals and loving on the kangaroos and goats. They have done an awesome job upgrading several of the exhibits especially in the barn. They have a nice shaded play area for the kids to play at and look like they will be adding a really fun new play area soon ! Great way to spend a few hours.

10/10, so much fun! Enclosures are clean and animals are healthy and seem very content! Plus animals are social! The camel came over when we called him, many animals love the attention, even the ones you can’t feed. I feel like that says a lot about their care when the animals actually like people. I struggle a lot with animals in captivity, but this place just had a different feel. Happy animals make me happy. I’m adding Babby Farms to my list of places to bring friends and family when they come to visit and you should too! I can’t wait to impress my niece with the experience of PETTING a kangaroo. We went on a hot day and it was a struggle in the outdoor enclosure. Make sure to bring a hat and lots of water. Can’t decide if my favorite was those adorable otters, the super alert fruit bats flying around or Mario the Spider Monkey. Oh my word he was special. That monkey had us all falling head over heels for him.

A great place for birthdays and large groups! We had my sons 2nd birthday there and they were amazing! Super helpful and let us rent 4 picnic tables for the day. Love that kids are free under 3 and the facility was clean, friendly staff, and a wide variety of animals. We loved that you can go into the pen with the kangaroos and pet them and you can do that with the goats as well. We all thought this was better than the Boise Zoo! We will definitely be back.

This place is great! Had family in town visiting we decided to check out babby farms. Glad we did! it was great everyone from the 2 year old to the 70 year old enjoyed it. The animals all seem well taken care of, they also all wanted to be loved on, this will be a regular stop when our family visits. We will probably come a few more times this summer. Lots of different types animals.

We've visited Babby Farms many times in the last few years. The recent renovations/expansions are fantastic and the upcoming plans look great as well. They have a good variety of animals, most of which I understand are rescues. This is a special place for the kiddos in our life and they especially love being able to hand-feed the hooved animals. The animals are so cute, I think people of all ages will really enjoy visiting.

We hosted my daughter’s 7th birthday party here! Texas, the Zookeeper/manager reserved the entire picnic area and didn’t charge us a dime! We were allowed to bring our own food and decorations. This place is cheaper than the Boise zoo. Unlike the Boise zoo, you can interact with most of the animals here, and you can feed them. Great for kids!

Koenig Vineyards deserves a solid five stars for creating a truly stunning tasting experience. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the modern and beautiful tasting room. The entire facility has a wonderful, elegant design. Combined with its spectacular view and wonderful location, this vineyard offers an incredible atmosphere for enjoying wine. And of course, the wines were all good, with several choices for our different palates. A definite must-visit!

The ice wine is so special and tasty. Especially in the aged oak ice wine which even no alcohol flavor. It’s so incredible

We had family visiting from our of state that enjoy wine so we wanted to bring them to a winery in idaho. A friend recommended us "the one with the tower." So we found Koenig. The tasting was a great price and all the wines were great! The staff was very knowledgeable too. The location is gorgeous! The architecture is pleasant and the stone porch area in front of the entrance is beautifull and a wonderful place to have lunch if you bring one, as long as it isn't too cold and windy like it was when we went. The tower structure has a breathtaking view overlooking the vineyards. If you frame the camera just right it literally looks like a painting! There's a nice lawn area on the right side of the building with more seating areas and tables and a cool, large chess board! They have a spirits distillery too, which wasn't open at the time we went, not until a month from our visit. Overall we had lovely experience, tasted great wine, bought some wine and spirits, and had good company. We're so glad we chose Koenig.

Bre was a great server at Koenig! She is very knowledgeable and very attentive. The wines are fantastic. Second time around as a club member. The 2021 Estate blend and 2021 Petite Syrah are very very good.

This was recommended by a good friend that appreciates good wine. The interesting point - this is both a winery and a distillery. We went for the wine tasting but will be back to sample the distilled spirits. The wine, in general, was good and very good. We especially liked one white and one red. We bought a case of the red and a few bottles of the white. The venue is very tasteful, and a great spot for an afternoon brunch.

Such a beautiful facility with its Tuscan tower and gorgeous flowers! We got to taste in the Barrel Room, and enjoyed 5 luscious wines. We'll worth the visit!!

Our experience at Huston's Vineyard is always delightful. The Huston's team is welcoming, very educated on their wine, and we love the way the owners are available and gracious hosts. We love to bring our family and friends to this Vineyard.

Huston Vineyards has become one of the most outstanding wineries in the Snake River Valley. Huston is our "go to winery" with an array of Gold and Double Gold medal winners at multiple competitions in Idaho and across the entire Pacific Northwest. Their wines are all exceptional, not to be out done by the incredible owners and their highly knowledgeable team. With great events happening year around, as a member, or even a visitor, you'll always be duly impressed. This is a FIVE STAR winery from A to Z.

We were a group of 8 with reservations. We were basically ignored. Appeared only one server on a Saturday and they were busy. However other groups were getting treated well. The charcuterie trays, were pre-made boxes and were disgusting, soggy crackers, and everything tasted like the spicy pickles. Atmosphere and grounds were very nice. Not very user friendly for someone in a wheelchair.

This is a cute and quaint winery, highly recommend their Chicken Dinner White wine. I was so glad I was able to purchase a convenient bag of it to take home with me in my luggage! I highly recommend this winery for a tasting and friendly staff.

Lovely place. Great wine. Great views. Super friendly people. Some insects flying around but that’s what happens when your outside. All employees were respectful of personal space and wore gloves. Very responsible during the times of CoVid 19. Wish minors had more to do and possibly juice or something to color. Again it is a great place.

We came in a little late, but Ann was very accommodating to us. Out of 3, we each enjoyed a different flight and had the Gourmet cheese board. Delicious food & wines. Love the option with a bottle of brut and different juices. Gorgeous views & atmosphere.

Loved our visit to Sawtooth and it was as great as it was the first visit. Matthew was so sweet and patient with us which made us feel welcome. We enjoyed our dip with chips along with a beautiful charcuterie board. The wine matched the treats. Matthew even treated our grandchild to fish crackers, how thoughtful. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful scenery, very comfortable atmosphere, and pleasant staff. Stopped in to try the mimosa flight. We really enjoyed 2 of them but weren’t really fans of the Gatorade mimosa. Tried the onion dip and really enjoyed that! They had goat yoga that morning and one of the baby goats was still there when we arrived. Super cute to see it wandering around with its little people. 🥰.

We had such a wonderful experience at the winery thanks to our server Liz! From the moment we arrived, they were warm, attentive, and knowledgeable about all the wines. They took the time to explain each tasting in a way that was both fun and informative, and their recommendations were spot on. They made us feel so welcome, checked in just the right amount, and made the whole experience feel extra special. It’s clear they genuinely enjoy what they do, and it really elevated our visit. Highly recommend asking for her if you stop by! 🍷✨

We had the absolute best day ever getting married at Roystone! We are so grateful to have found such a beautiful place. The owners were so kind and easy to work with.. Our friends and family raved about how peaceful and private it was. We were able to rent the spring room a few hrs the day before to set up and I am so glad we did as it made the big day go off smooth sailing. After that we rented the pool and hot tub for our friends and family. They loved it! We will remember this day for a lifetime..

What a beautiful place! We are so glad we got the private pool. You will have your own bathrooms with showers, loungers and music if you desire. So relaxing and the staff was amazing! It is a lovely property, so take a walk! We will absolutely be back. We did not do the big pool but we could tell that is a good place to make a reservation if you have kids. Bring your drinks, snacks and food if you like. There are areas to picnic, they just ask that you don't have food near the water. Go there and just enjoy some relaxation not very far from Boise.❤️

By far one of the best kept secrets here in Gem County❤️we stayed in the RV park which was surprisingly not noisy being next to highway👍the staff, surroundings and even the pets were friendly and welcoming! It was just what we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle and we can’t say enough about the amazing hot spring pool❤️ very affordable and worth the little drive 💪

BOOM!! For less then $80, my family of 7 got a covered private swimming hot springs pool complete with pool basketball and a massage waterfall. This was a welcome break from the long, hard road. Reservations were simple and made 24 hrs in advance using my phone. The water was a perfect temperature. The dressing rooms were convenient and although it was open changing stalls within designated men/women rooms, it was still private. My only complaint was a bathroom door that seemed impossible to keep shut unless it was slammed shut. A mini issue at all and 100% better then peeing in the pool. Make the trip from nearby Boise to enjoy 90 minutes of this paradise.
Justin H — Google review
This is a well kept clean environment. The only downfall I have is the bathrooms on the campground. There is no exhaust fan, so it is hot and muggy at all times. Another thing that exhaust fan would help would be when someone goes to the bathroom the stink stays in the room.
Carey M — Google review
A great experience at Roystone Hot Springs! We so appreciate being able to swim for exercise. Emily was thorough in explaining the process for using the pool and reserving the pool for future use. She is knowledgeable, professional and engaging. Thanks again for everything!

We rented the pool and grounds for a family reunion outing in August. It was over 90 degrees and yet it was a perfect outing for us! We had the use of the beautiful shady grounds and a covered picnic table area. The air conditioned gazebo room wasn't even needed, but was nice to have. The temperature of the pool was perfect and the covered area made it a sunscreen free swimming experience. Emily was a wonderful staff person and took care of anything we needed. I highly encourage others to book a gathering at any time of the year. The metal artwork adds so much to the beauty of the place. We had a wonderful time and so will you!

This is the second birthday that I rented the pool to celebrate with my friends. The pool is amazing. The first year I went it was cooler and the warm water was amazing. This year it was 101 degrees outside and while the pool was a little warm it was still very enjoyable. Thank you for hosting us!

First time visiting this lovely place. We had a great time. The wines were very tasty. Sat out on the patio and enjoyed the view and a good bottle of the wine. They dedicated their labels to the First Responders, had to buy several bottles to take home to my son who is a paramedic and to a former coworker, who is now a Fire Chief. Next visit back to Boise, we will be going back.

Sol Invictus is a wonderful local family winery in Star. The family and staff are friendly and personal, attending to every sipping need. The venue is beautiful with a comfortable tasting room. The garden setting overlooking our treasured valley is lovely. This is an awesome locale for special gatherings. On occasion, a musical delight is offered. The wine selection is great, and the Malbec is special. Tones of wonderment in this special place.

This was our first trip to Sol Invictus. What a nice winery. We were the only ones there so we received the royal treatment. Took our bottle of wine to the patio to enjoy the beautiful view. The wine was a wonderful Syrah, just the right amount of dryness and flavor. I think it compares nicely to any of the Snake River wines here in the valley. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you for a nice afternoon.

Warhawk Air Museum

Planes & flying memorabilia from WWI to the jet era are on display at this aviation museum.
I’m originally from Afghanistan, but I currently live in Dallas, Texas. I recently traveled to Idaho, where a friend of mine — who lives in Orofino, about five hours from Nampa — came to meet us. He invited us to visit the Warhawk Air Museum, and I must say, it was an absolutely amazing experience 🤩. One moment that really stood out for me was seeing flags from many different countries on display — but unfortunately, not Afghanistan’s. That made me feel a little sad. However, at that very moment, my friend found and gifted me an Afghan military hat. That small gesture meant a lot to me, and I was truly happy to see something representing my country there. The Warhawk Museum is truly admirable. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. One of the employees took time to patiently answer all our questions and guided us throughout the visit with a warm attitude. I sincerely hope that the management of this museum recognizes and appreciates such dedicated and respectful staff members. Many thanks to the administration for creating such a memorable experience 🌟

We went to the Warhawk Air Museum as a part of our trip to utah, and man it was so fun! They have scavenger hunts for kids (they look for certain artifacts) that can gain them a price, and are relatively easy. They also have a bunch of retired veterans everywhere, so if you ever need help, they were there. I do admit though, some of them acted like our personal guides, which we appreciated but it made it very hard to have a thought on anything we were seeing because he was going so fast. Most of the photos were from the Japan section, but there are so many stories behind every artifact! There are basically 3 parts to the museum, front, middle, and back/out door. Or that’s at least as far as we explored. There were NO BATHROOMS that we saw, so be prepared. Museum was an over all awesome experience!

Great museum! Obviously they have a ton of different airplanes, but they also have hundreds of items in display cases with a lot of information. It stretches from WWI through to 9/11 and the Global War on Terror. There is a small gift shop as well and just past the entry they have a long line of binders with biographical information on different veterans. Definitely worth visiting, they have three different sections covering various periods and according to the staff all the aircraft are air certified and can fly.

We went on Saturday the 1st for the Veterans Breakfast. We had Maverick and Goose with us. Both in there flight suits and Goose in his airplane. They do a wonderful job putting on a pancake breakfast with eggs, sausage and hashbrowns. Juice and coffee too. I even saw a couple of people I knew. It's really fun to walk through the museum to get to the breakfast. We walked through a different part on the way out. The kiddos love the airplanes.

Zip Idaho was an awesome adventure. We came to Idaho for our honeymoon for the adventure and views and this stop was not a disappointment. Our guides Jay and Kevin were full of jokes and are very good at what they do. The views from the lines are amazing too. We definitely recommend going.
Denae S — Google review
I won't lie: My hands were sweating as I grabbed ahold of the handle bars and waited for my maiden jump from the zip line platform at Zip Idaho. I wasn't nervous per se, but I needed a few moments to consider the safety aspects and how even if I let go of the grips, I would still be attached to the line and in no danger. Aaron, one of the two guides, calmly told me to take as much time as I needed. Once I walked the plank and got into the air, I was fine. I could feel the wind and enjoyed the ride with views of the Boise National Forest. Yelp organized the outing for 11 of us, so we didn't pay the regular $90 fee. That might seem spendy but for three hours of fun, it would be well worth it. There were six different zip lines and a rickety bridge to cross, all while attached to a zip line. The best line was 2,030 feet long and it took about 40 seconds to get to the other end, zipping by at about 50 mph. It was great. There was plenty of emphasis on safety and Aaron and Joe were good at explaining the procedures and instructing us on fitting into the harnesses. At each landing, carabiners kept us attached to cables attached to the trees, ensuring no one could fall off the platforms. The views were spectacular. The course was located about 9 miles east of Horseshoe Bend, past the town's Pioneer Cemetery. There were many wildflowers, including blue camas petals in bloom. And on the last day of May, the mountains were still green.

We love the Cleo's nature trail and go there usually every year. It is well maintained and pretty. We appreciate the Christian inspirational phrases and references. The Empty Tomb is very cool. This is one of those places you really don't want to share with everyone but I suppose as a business, it's only fair to give it the good review it deserves so they can get the support of the community and visitors.

Great place to go and see some neat stuff!! It's by donation, has food machines for a quarter to feed the peacocks, ( just make sure the peacocks aren't near you when you get the food out of the machine). It's very relaxing and peaceful. Kids love it!! Neat history too. Each birdhouse in this park has a saying with it. Good learning experience for young and old alike!! Definitely worth the trip. You're also right next to the Snake River!!

Kathryn Albertson Park is a 41-acre green space in Boise, featuring wildlife, ponds, and a fountain. The park offers paved footpaths, restrooms, and charming gazebos. It's a popular spot for birdwatching with various species to observe. The natural setting includes rustic benches, fences, rocks, ponds, bridges, and beautiful plants throughout the year. During springtime, the vibrant colors make it an especially picturesque destination.
We had our small elopement ceremony at the park and it was perfect. Such beautiful scenery and we got some great pictures. So many walking paths as well, if it was busy in a section you can turn a corner and feel like it's just the two of you. I've always loved this park since I was little so it was special to have this moment here.

Pros - Beautiful! Glorious! Clean! Serene! Easy parking. They provide dog poo bags, so it'll be sure to use them. . Note - Not for bikes, but wheelchair accessible throughout. It is recommended to bring a map or follow yourself on GPS. There are restrooms at the parking lot, as well as inside the trails. Don't forget bug repellant. Some trails are off limit , so be careful. . Cons - Could use a few more benches scattered around the park.

My wife and I go usually once a week and we live in Kuna. Our dogs love it. We love it there too. Plus it is cooler inside the park, which helps in the hotter months. We see lots of fun animals. Very easy walk and is wheel chair accessible. Saw the Marry Me in rose petals the day I wrote the post.

This park is really large and so many 🌲 here to see. There is no playground equipment here. No basketball, 🏀, no baseball ⚾️, no soccer ⚽️, volleyball at this kind of park. This is a place for people to walk the trails which they cross cross all over this park. There are lakes and ponds all over this park. It is so very peaceful here and with all the trees there is plenty shade here. They do have a restroom on the trail. They have a picknick that you can reserve for a medium size of people. This place is what we need downtown Boise.

Such a hidden gem! Well, I say hidden because I thought it was just another park and a lot of people I’ve talked to thought the same! It’s such a beautiful spot for a nature walk! Idaho State Capitol

State government office
Sights & Landmarks
The Idaho State Capitol, a grand neoclassical statehouse built in 1914, is a historic landmark in Boise. Managed by the Capitol Curation Program, it houses over 1,000 artifacts and historic furnishings related to Idaho's history. The building's architecture emphasizes natural light and resembles the US Capitol. Visitors can explore its public galleries and gift shop or take a tour to learn about Idaho's rich history through art and exhibits.
WOW. Sorry I have not been here before. This massive building with all the marble floors, walls, pillars is just stunning. And the wood work that was hand crafted which was beautiful. And all of the posters and history throughout the building telling the history of Idaho. From the Indian significance of what they have been an integral part of our history to the Lewis and Clark traveling throughout Idaho. The grounds are such a beautiful mix of lush greenery to the plants and the many hedges of roses.
Timothy B — Google review
The Idaho State Capitol carries an elegance that never fades. The marble staircases, tall columns, and streams of natural light create a setting that feels both grand and intimate. Photographing portraits and engagement sessions here is always inspiring—the space itself adds depth and meaning to each moment without overpowering it. It’s a place that feels timeless, and one I love returning to again and again.
Jenesis P — Google review
The Boise Capitol Building is such a classic and timeless spot for photos. Between the marble columns, grand steps, and soft light, it gives every portrait a touch of elegance. Whether it’s engagement, bridal, or graduation photos — it’s always a favorite backdrop downtown.

What a wonderful State Capitol. We have our 50 State Capitol challenge. This is number 39! It’s open 7 days per week and we arrived before sunrise and had a wonderful tour. Lots to explore. Out of session times (Jan-March) one needs a guided tour to see the House and Senate Chambers. Love to see the replica Liberty Bell on display at the foot of the steps.
Mind T — Google review
The Idaho State Capitol is one of my absolute favorite spots in Boise for elopements, bridal sessions, and editorial shoots. There’s something so timeless about the clean marble architecture and soft window light. It makes every moment feel elevated and romantic without needing much else. I’ve photographed everything from intimate "just-us" elopements to European-inspired bridal editorials in this space, and each time I’m amazed at the variety it offers. The light shifts gently throughout the day, wrapping couples in warmth during afternoon portraits and creating jaw-dropping editorial shadows by early evening. The backdrop is stately and refined, yet somehow still playful, perfect for capturing both quiet glances and bold, creative moments. If you want your images to feel both timeless and artistic, this is the place. It’s iconic Boise, but it also feels like you’ve been whisked away to Europe for the afternoon. And best of all? No permits. No stress. Just show up and make magic.
Katy P — Google review
Awesome interior. Notice the compass rose on the main level and one floor below. Look up to the top of the rotunda and see how the night sky could look from this location. Oriented north south, with the House to the east and the Senate to the west. Go up to the 4th floor and check out the displays on that floor. Make sure to go to the gift shop floor, there you will see the history of Idaho and some of what makes it the great state it is today!
Sean B — Google review
Beautiful building with extremely rich local history. I love how accessible it is to the public
Isaac F — Google review
The Idaho State Capitol is a stunning and well-preserved piece of history right in the heart of Boise. The architecture is impressive inside and out, and the building is open to the public for self-guided tours. It’s a great spot to learn about Idaho’s government and history, and the marble interior is truly beautiful. A must-visit for anyone exploring downtown Boise.

Nestled in the picturesque Julia Davis Park, Zoo Boise is a beloved attraction in Southern Idaho. This living science facility houses over 200 animals from 83 different species and offers diverse exhibits such as an African boat ride, kids' farm, and butterfly area. Supported by the Friends of Zoo Boise, the zoo aims to engage visitors in wildlife conservation through education programs and special events.
Visited Zoo Boise just yesterday and had such a fantastic time! The zoo is incredibly clean and well maintained—every path and exhibit looked spotless, and you can really see how much care goes into everything. I was impressed by how much space the animals have; it feels like a comfortable home for them, which isn’t something you see at every zoo. The new red panda exhibit was a huge highlight! It was so much fun to watch them climbing and exploring—I could have stayed there all afternoon. I also made sure to stop by and see the tiger, who’s always been my favorite. Seeing him up close was amazing, as always. I love the interactive activities here too—feeding the giraffes is a must, and the little boat ride offers a fun break from walking. There are plenty of concession stands for snacks, and the layout makes it easy to find your way around. Zoo Boise just keeps getting better, and I’m super excited for their next expansion. Highly recommend for a fun and memorable day out!

I've been to a few zoos in my time and I've never seen the red pandas as active as they were at the Boise Zoo. They were eating, they were walking up and down a sky bridge, they were romping. The zoo is in the process of adding additional animals, so some construction, but nothing invasive. Aside from one sleepy fox, all their animals seemed very active. The zoo is clean and easy to navigate and reasonable in cost. I also went on a warm day and it seemed laid out well to provide shade and relief from the sun. Would recommend.

Well I never went to the zoo I went to Art in the park I don't know if that's its official Title, but there was a ton of very unique booths, something for everone, No Junk. It was well worth my time but the zoo I have been there before and the zoo is really nice it's small but it's well done the kids enjoy it. there's usually not a wait, today was half price! there's other things to do in walking distance. There's the Discovery Center for kids, The Boise Art museum. The Rose gardens. If you get too hot if you get on the green belt and there's a path of long trees and you don't see anything else the river's just on the other side of the trees literally

This is our second visit and I can honestly say, we love it. Yes, a lot of the enclosures were not occupied and there is a lot of construction but I can see where they are taking it and I’m excited. Today, while we didn’t get to see a ton of animals, the ones we did see actually “interacted” with us. We got to feed some giraffe and have a great day!

While this zoo is not as big as the Portland Zoo in Oregon or the Woodland Zoo in Seattle, it packs a big bunch in variety and kid friendliness. The red panda exhibit was so cool and they were very active. My 9yo and 1yo had so much fun. The farm animal petting zoo section was a great end to the experience as well. Next time we are in Boise we will be sure to come back.

You can tell the animals are well-cared for. They are active and appear healthy. The zoo is much larger than you would expect, there's a lot of development to improve each of the animals paddock. The family loved the zoo, this is a must see for anyone that loves animals.

For a small zoo it's very cute. The Red Panda enclosure was so awesome. There was plenty of staff around to ask questions. We are excited to see what they will bring with the new construction. My only issue was the windows aren't very clear in many enclosures so it was hard to see some of the animals.

I was so disappointed in my visit here. None of the animals were out all the Exhibits were closed or moved or under construction. I think maybe we saw seven animals in a n hour. This zoo needs some grants some donations something to make them worth going to. I was so disappointed I wanted to ask for a refund for my time there.

The Boise River Greenbelt is a stunning 25-mile trail that weaves through the heart of Boise, connecting various parks and recreational areas while offering breathtaking riverside views. This multiuse path invites everyone to enjoy its beauty, whether you're cycling, jogging, or simply taking a leisurely stroll. With an impressive average of 234 sunny days each year, it's no wonder that locals and visitors alike flock to this vibrant space for outdoor activities.
Was cruising along the river on a Lime scooter and next thing I know found myself in the Greenbelt staring at a giraffe. Then it took me over a gorgeous river and through the Boise State Campus. Boise is lucky to have such a beautiful gem and it seems like they truly cherish it. A tourist visit to Boise without quality time along the river greenbelt isn’t a true visit.

Taking my kiddos to the Boise Greenbelt is a great way to spend a beautiful day in the treasure Valley. I’d highly recommend it for anybody who wants cool little nature walks along the Boise river.

25 mile, mostly paved, greenbelt trail following the Boise River. Absolutely gorgeous and green, with pathways lined with lush trees! Kid and dog-friendly with so much to do. The trail provides access to so many different parks, museums, Zoo Boise, Warm Springs Gold Course, Boise State University, and even a food truck park! The river is also available for fishing and tubing. The trail is littered with electronic scooters available for rent (via a mobile App). I used one and it was a blast, but it does become a bit of an eyesore when there are so many lying around.

Beautiful paved bike trail. Passed bicyclists, scooters, and people walking. Biked from the Zoo to past Garden City. Trail ended on the east side of the river. Might be better to ride on the west side of the river. Will definitely be back and rent electric bikes and do all of the trail.

Such a lush vegetated place to walk or ride your bike. I walked the entire path then rode an electric scooter back to my car. The Spin app is so affordable and I got back very quick.

I stayed at the Park Center Marriott and walked the Green Belt on my visit twice, once w a friend who brought her dog. We entered through the parking lot by the Refuge at Park Center. The path was paved for probably a mile and then was a dirt path but well maintained. There were lots of people walking dogs. You could walk down in the river bed in many spots to take photos. We saw tons of hawks, geese, and my friend saw a bald eagle. Apparently it’s a great spot for bird watchers who know other birds. People were very friendly and dogs were most on leashes and had good recall. You’d want boots on the dirt path this time of year as it had icy spots and was a little muddy but not bad. There were garbage cans along the path and people kept the area pretty free of trash.

Simply an amazing bike and walking path along the fast running (9 May 2023) Boise River. Highly recommend.

We did the green belt from the stadium to Eagle. It is the prettiest stretch of the system. We saw owls, deer, beaver marks, and of course goslings. Beautiful riding.

Gardens
Idaho Botanical Garden, established in 1984, is a year-round living museum spread across 33 acres of native and exotic gardens at the base of Boise's foothills. The garden features themed areas such as the English Garden with its Summer House and Princess Diana Fountain, the Meditation Garden offering respite from hot summers, and the Heirloom Rose Garden. It also includes a Children's Adventure Garden and Herb Garden.
Beautiful botanical garden!! It was a good size and I thought there was a lot to see. I loved how art was incorporated in the garden through sculptures and the fairy house exhibit. The old graveyard was interesting and I loved the koi and their history. The location is cool because you can go visit the penitentiary right next door too. We brought in lunch and ate at a bench in the garden, and there was plenty of areas you could do that.

Had an awesome night catching the Sam Barber concert at Outlaw Field! The atmosphere was exactly what I look for in a summer concert—fun, spacious, and really well-maintained. There was plenty of room to spread out (chairs are allowed, which is a major plus), and the whole venue felt clean, even with a big crowd. Bathrooms were easy to find and never had much of a line, which made the night hassle-free. We grabbed food from Gyro Shack and it hit the spot—delicious, fresh, and the portion size was perfect for concert snacking. Drinks were flowing, with lots of beer and cocktails available. The $12 token system was a little confusing at first, especially figuring out how to tip, but the staff were friendly and patient, which helped smooth things out. The crowd was lively but not overwhelming, and the energy during the show was fantastic. I’d highly recommend catching a show here during the summer series—definitely one of the better outdoor venues in town.

The Idaho Botanical Garden is the kind of venue that makes outdoor weddings feel both grand and intimately romantic. During our Pride & Prejudice-inspired shoot, the Garden gave us everything we hoped for: lush plantings, graceful walkways, soft filtered light, and spaces where heirlooms, vintage china, and personal details look like they belong. With 15 acres nestled in the Boise foothills, the Garden offers varied foliage, mature trees, rose beds, and English garden charm that transforms with the seasons. It’s ideal whether you’re imagining a large guest list or a more intimate gathering; the English Garden, Dry Garden, Meditation Garden, and lawn spaces give you flexibility. What I love as a photographer is how natural beauty here doesn’t compete. It frames. The way light dances through trees, shimmers off blossoms, reflects in ponds, and filters through leaves gives your photos depth, warmth, and that storytelling vibe. If you value authenticity, natural elegance, and an outdoor venue that feels like you, this is one of the best in Boise.

The Idaho Botanical Garden is located on part of the former Idaho Penitentiary land. So, there's an old guard house, guard tower and a cemetery in the back for some of the prisoners whose family did not collect them. The gardens themselves are beautiful and focus on plants of the high desert as well as fire prevention.

We visit the Idaho Botanical Garden a few times each summer for the Outlaw Field concerts, and it’s always a fantastic date night. This year, the Sam Barber event was the highlight — perfect weather and great beer deals made it even better. Pro tip: bring a lowback chair or blanket, pack a dinner, and grab a 6-pack from the beer line. Arriving early is your best bet for a prime viewing spot. Parking is rough — park at your own risk. My tip: bike into the event or park nearby and ride from your car. Event parking is brutal, and good luck getting an Uber afterward. Overall, an amazing experience. The setting is super cool — being next to the old penitentiary and surrounded by the foothills makes it extra special. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxed, fun summer night out!

Finally visited the Gardens after living here almost a decade and I instantly regretted that we hadn't been here sooner. It was an amazing escape to what felt like a hidden wonder in the gardens, where some points felt like you were deep in the forest surrounded by trees. All the little shaded picnic areas were nice and great to take a break while perusing the plants and flowers. We even spotted a few lizards. The only negative was the lack of available parking, we had to park across the street and walk over. We will definitely be back again though.

Lovely garden with a variety of local plants, built around the old penitentiary. There's a small shop within and also a koi pond with large, lovely koi.

Beautiful flowers, sculptures, koi pond. Lots of different features within the gardens. It was very hot, so bring your own refillable water bottles.

Old Idaho Penitentiary Site

Sights & Landmarks
The Old Idaho Penitentiary Site, located in Boise, is a historic prison complex that operated from 1872 to 1973. It features over 30 buildings and offers self-guided walking tours and special exhibitions. The site has a dark history, having housed notorious inmates such as Harry Orchard and Lyda Southard. With at least 110 recorded deaths within its walls, the prison was eventually closed in 1973 due to riots that caused significant damage.
Luckily, I found a podcast a few months ago with stories of inmates from this Penitentiary. After binging episodes, I knew I needed to visit. I drove with my family from Utah to make an entire to out of Boise, a place I'd never been before. Secretly, I just wanted to visit this site. Having visited both Alcatraz and Eastern Penitentiary before, this place is more personal. It has a certain atmosphere of reverence while maintaining the history. I'm sure my family was overwhelmed by the stories I told (thanks to the podcast). The smaller size certainly helped you feel the family each inmate felt from other inmates. Stories of inmates were posted everywhere as a reminder of the souls who filled the walls, not just a place of lock up and punishments. My only regret is not paying for the tour. I wanted to do it at my own pace, yet I'm sure they would have accommodated or I could walk through alone again. I encourage everyone to make the pilgrimage to this place. Who knows how long before it crumbles away.

It was worth the negligible amount of money to tour. A couple of things that I found interesting was the number of inmates that had 'must relocate to California as a condition of their parole' the first time I saw it I thought 'thats interesting...' the 3rd time I thought 'wait a minute ' lol. Check it out, its worth seeing the gallows where they hung the death row inmates. They have a gift shop and I thought that it would be interesting to be arrested for stealing from the Idaho State Penitentiary gift shop but I didn't do it

What a great sad place to see history, in a since. I could feel the energy the prison had. The peeling paint, beds, the doors all felt very cold. They had tours if you wanted to do that,a small gift shop. Admission was pretty good. I recommend going to see it.

The Old Idaho Penitentiary is a fascinating and very well-preserved historic site that’s absolutely worth visiting! Walking through the old cell blocks, solitary confinement rooms, and the guard towers gives you a real sense of what life must have been like back in the day. The exhibits are detailed and informative, covering both the prison’s history and the stories of some of its inmates. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer questions, which makes the visit even more engaging. It’s a perfect stop for anyone interested in history, architecture, or something a bit different from the usual tourist attractions. Plan about 1–2 hours for your visit — and don’t forget your camera, the old stone buildings make for great photos!

We had a pretty big group and got a guided tour and we were so glad we did. Leslie was our guide and she was amazing very energetic and so informative especially with the kids in our group asking questions. Would highly recommend coming and having her be your guide. Also the prison is awesome, definitely need to go see it at least once.

This is very interesting and, frankly, creepy and beautiful at the same time. This prison was built in 1870 and it's one of only four territorial prisons open to the public today. Certainly worth a visit. There are many buildings you can go into and some you can only peer into. It was in operation for 101 years and during that time there were escapes, scandals and the transition from Boise's "wild west" to a modern capital city. The prison closed because it was falling apart and conditions for prisoners were cramped and dangerous. Amidst the ruins there are gardens. One can tour old cell blocks, learn about notable inmates, see where some people were kept in solitary confinement or on death row and where they were hung. There are guided tours for an additional fee. Most of the site is handicapped accessible. Some upstairs areas are open to the public but are only accessible via stairs. Visual aids are available for guests unable to access these areas. There are restrooms and a gift shop on site. An admission fee is charged. One may also buy a combo ticket that includes the Idaho Botanical Garden next door which was built on former penitentiary grounds. Parking is free on site.

Really neat experience! I took my kids age 8 and 9 (self guided tour) and they really enjoyed it although it probably put a little fear of breaking the law into them too 🤣 💅. The employees were really great and friendly. Enthusiastic to share information even if your not in a tour group. Cheap family outing, I can't believe I haven't gone sooner! Last check in is 4, closes at 5. I can see why it closes before dark lol CREEPY even in the daytime! We arrived at 4 and were able to do it in an hr, but we did cut it close, so depending on how much time you want to spend in the weapons room and cell blocks you may add a bit of time to that.

Cool part of Idaho's history. The self tour is more than adequate to get a feel for the old structures of the penitentiary. Definitely worth visiting.
