Hat Rock State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Lakeside park with boating, swimming, hiking, biking & a fishing pond amid arid sagebrush hills.
Nice stop wile driving out east. The park itself has a lot going on from a picnic area, short hikes and a fishing area. Bathrooms are clean and parking is plentiful.
Scott M — Google review
Beautiful place for a hike. Cool little fishing spot. Great picnic areas.
Eduardo A — Google review
There are houses right next to the Hat Rock. There are also picnic tables in a park nearby.
Brent W — Google review
In all honesty we took a ride to this park on our own Lewis and Clark Expedition starting in St. Louis. So we did very little at the park. We spent about 45 minutes taking pictures of Hat Rock and picnicking for lunch. This is a lovely well kept park . The picnick area has ample parking, nice clean picnic tables many in shade. This would be a fun park to explore as it does have a marina. What we saw we liked very much.
Elaine J — Google review
Take a support team but I swam across the river and back here about 2 miles. Do not attempt this without people who care if you live in boats and kayaks or paddleboards. When I learn to swim better I want to try a distance swim without fins and hand paddles.
Robert M — Google review
I looked around and didn't see a restroom. There was a note about starting to charge to visit in October. I don't think I'll go back.
Ray T — Google review
It's a cool place for sure. I went during winter so it wasn't green and the bathroom was closed. However it is still a fun little hike to see the hat shaped rock and read about Lewis and Clark and how the rock was formed.. stop by and see for yourself..
D A — Google review
One of those truly magical places. It is still basically wild but has a ton of history and some serious variety of nature. There is recently a suspected arson fire that destroyed quite a bit of wilderness but it's already regenerating just like it should. I did the hike from the Lewis and Clark trailhead Up to hat rock. Along the way you'll see some weird old things I'm pretty sure it's remnants of a old train depot and the foundation ,a bread Baking oven ,a stove And many old rusted remnants of the past. As you walk along you'll see animal paths coinciding with human paths as well as the old railroad grade. Work your way up to hot rock and you'll see an amazing view from the top. One of the best sunrises and sunsets can be seen in this area. Please pick up after yourself not many people will and it becomes a problem if things get chucked over and over and over. Also pack it out if you can instead of overloading dumpsters and making your problem somebody else's problem. I know all of this sounds hippie but we just need to do our part. If you're a strong swimmer there's an enclosed Swim area but you also can venture beyond and go out to the small island not too far. Don't be safe and you might be sorry ,be safe and you'll do much better. There are 2 campsites that are free but you have to reserve them it seems to be fairly difficult to get ahold of the agency in charge. Also be aware that this is rattlesnake country and they come out at night, so protect yourself. They don't want to hurt you ,they're just looking for a warm place to sleep. There are wetlands and scrub brush trees rocks animals just about everything in ecosystem needs. Go experience it. This is real Washington!

What a great family spot!! First time we've gone and it was great. Big enough that the kids had a blast. But not so big that I couldnt see both of them from one spot. Will definitely be back.
Kat B — Google review
Subject: Disrespectful Treatment During Visit Dear Hermiston Family Aquatic Center, I’m writing to share a disappointing experience we had during a recent visit to your pool facility. We arrived under the mistaken impression that it was open to the public. We hadn’t checked online beforehand, and that was our oversight. When we arrived, we waited a few minutes before being approached by a staff member, who informed us (rather bluntly) that the pool wasn’t open to the public. We apologized and acknowledged our mistake, saying, “Oh no, that sucks, we’re sorry we didn’t check.” At that point, what surprised us was the way the manager responded — saying, “Well, it’s too bad you are angry,” and, when we clarified that we weren’t angry, just bummed, she raised her voice and said, “Yes, it is your fault for not reading, and it’s not my fault you’re angry.” When I asked to speak to a manager, she stated, “Well, it’s too bad because I am the manager,” in an unprofessional tone. We weren’t confrontational or demanding; we were simply disappointed. We were shocked by the defensive and unwelcoming attitude, especially in front of our child. We understand policies are in place, but we were taken aback by the lack of basic courtesy and professionalism. We hope this kind of treatment is not reflective of your facility’s values. The name given to us was Jacoby. Thank you for taking the time to hear our concerns. Sincerely, Sandra A.
Sandra A — Google review
This aquatic center is much too small for our community!! I think the rule of being within arms reach of your child if it is in a life vest. You are also never allowed to bring anything into the pool with the exception of goggles and maybe a dive toy. I feel they restrict your ability to have fun and play with your child in the water to an extreme in this particular aquatic center. The next town over is much more lenient therefore a lot more fun for the whole family.
Sarah H — Google review
Fun water slide & diving board with $1.00 churros and comfortable lounge chairs. You can buy a lock 4 the lockers. If you need sunscreen, this place has you covered. You can also bring your own food. I had a great time!! thank you, city of Hermiston!
Sayoni G — Google review
Very fun place to go for the whole family. Enjoyed the lazy river and the food excellent prices! Also a very neat, clean and very well kept place to go. However I wasn’t to happy the showers were closed and can’t jump in the pool? Unless it’s the diving board...Kinda weird. They are very picky about coolers “no glass bottles” and picky about pool toys so call ahead before coming.
Robin C — Google review
Great place to escape the summer heat. Looks like a family pass for the summer would be the Best Buy if you are going to visit it a lot. Shade was hard to come by, so I would suggest getting there earlier in the day as we arrived in the early afternoon.
Francisco D — Google review
We were there on Saturday, August 2nd, and the food service is very bad. It seems that the young people there don't like their jobs, they throw things at you. They should pay more attention to the service.
Esthela M — Google review
Nice location. For the price point, you cannot beat it! We visited from out of state. Wish we had more of these types of locations in our state.

Butte Park

Nature & Parks
Oh my goodness! This is probably the BEST playground I've ever been! We live in Tricities and made the 30-40 min drive after seeing pictures online. Whoever created this was brilliant! There's several different themes and so so much to play on! If I could give it more stars I would. There's also a splash pad right next to it which is perfect for cooling off in, also they have part of the park shaded which is nice since some playground equipment gets pretty hot. I took my kids ages 2,12 and 15 and they all loved it! I'm kinda sad they didn't make the playground of dreams this way in Tricities. We will definitely be visiting again soon. Kudos to the ones who made this happen! You rock!
Nicole B — Google review
Nice little hike to the top. Gives a great view of the city
Liam — Google review
Great park….especially if you have toddlers and dogs. There is 1) an elaborate play structure, 2) a water park and 3) a dog park. It’s a trifecta!
Jeff C — Google review
Great place for kids. Even had a splash pad. Lots of stuff to play around in and on.
Lonnie M — Google review
My kids loved it and so did I. One of the largest play areas I have seen in some time for sure. It's close to the city pool. By close I mean a football field away. The place was fun. We will be returning for sure.
Mr. ( — Google review
Not much else to do around the area but this was a pleasant surprise. The views were great and the hike to the top was nice. It wasn't too strenuous and it didn't take long at all. I wish there was an open path to the park right next to it. It looks like there used to be but we couldn't get through the fence. This would be a great Saturday walk for the family. Or if you're driving through on a road trip and want to stretch your legs, this is the perfect place to do that.
Shannon M — Google review
Great dog park, nice little hike to the top of the butte for 360 degree views of the city, and a nice playground.

Great service and decent beer selection. I found it incredible that the staff actually walked around and check on their customers. Beer bars don’t do that where I come from. EDIT: I’ve been here a few more times since my initial visit a few months back and I cannot say enough nice things about the owner and her staff. Genuine, friendly, and so attentive. Only thing I would change is how dang bright it is in here. Level up that ambience ladies! 🌈🕯️🏮
Lesa M — Google review
Talk about a great beer joint! Look at this tap list. The owner, Tammy's, enthusiasm is infectious. She remembered our names the next day when we stepped through the door. Her knowledge of the beers and different mixtures was refreshing since I've been to some breweries where they refuse to mix beers. They allow outside food which is an added plus. There's a cookie bakery next door that we were lucky enough to score some free delicious cookies. Check this place out. You will be glad you did.
Linda M — Google review
Tried this place today for the first time, The selection is amazing and the bartender was so nice! She was quick with assistance and absolutely gorgeous! I highly reccommend this place and I will be back again myself!
Andrew H — Google review
Super friendly bar tender (Tammi) and 32 microbrews and ciders on tap. Pints are currently only $5 too!
Ethan F — Google review
Great first experience at Neighbor Dudes. Hosting a Silent auction with food for homeless kids in our area. Loved my service and beer. That Huckleberry Hef was amazing! Thank you Tammy. I'll definitely be back for more.
Comegetsome E — Google review
You can find the place quiet but not for long. The place is clean, well light ed and the bartender is very nice. The place is nothing fancy. You can feel comfortable in jeans and tee shirts. Not a lot of tables, so if you have a party of six, best to get there early on Friday night. Very nice selection of beers.
Mari G — Google review
Beer selection is plenty to choose from. No munchies. No music. Plenty of tables & seats, standing room at the bar counter.
Artful D — Google review
Great selection of on tap beers and ciders. Also they change pretty regularly if you are into trying new things. Great place to work with a mom group of friends or you work crew. They don't serve food but you can bring in your own. I just wish they had more outdoor seating.

Hidden gem that's worth a visit! Great wine, with many options. Friendly staff. Awesome outdoor area that's great for hanging out and relaxing. Didn't hesitate to pick up a few bottles to take home on our first visit.
Jess E — Google review
Such a great winery. The family is amazing that own it, friendly and welcoming. The silo outside is beautiful and the grounds were well maintained. They currently have all reds to taste but will have rose soon. They have beer also we had a charcuterie tray they prepared but your welcome to bring your own. We stayed in our motorhome on the property with Harvest Hosts and it was nice , safe and quiet . Will definitely stay again.
Mindy M — Google review
Sitting here for the last couple of hours enjoying a flight and a $5 glass of rose wine have made the end of a day amazing. I wanted to get out of my hotel room and it was way to hot to hike, so I decided to check out Echo. Tucked on a major street in Echo it felt like the bar Cheers walking in. I was the newly, but I felt welcomed. I decided to check out their flight and take advantage of their $5 wine Wednesday glasses. I tried the rose, muscat, and medium red. All were amazing, but it was something about the rose that was refreshing and light. So, this was my $5 glass choice! I sipped this on their relaxing outdoor space that has tons of seating and shade. I took my time reading and enjoying every sip. I decided to take a bottle of muscat home! It is a pretty unique flavor with just a hint of sweetness. Thank you for this experience Echo Ridge!! I will hopefully be back!
Chandra J — Google review
We had the wonderful experience of sipping wine and enjoying the beautiful garden patio at Echo Ridge Cellars last night. We started with a tasting flight and each wine was delicious making it difficult to decide which one to choose as our bottle for the evening. In the end we ordered the Rodeo Red. As fun as this wine sounds it was seriously delicious. The owners Jay and Kim circulated around the guests and we were lucky to be able to chat with them for a while and hear their stories. A very fun evening, Jay and Kim, and we are so happy to have met you.
Lorna R — Google review
You don’t just find Echo Ridge Winery — you stumble into it, like a secret whispered by the hills. One of those places where the land feels like it’s still catching its breath after a long history, and the wine carries all of that into the glass. The tasting room is humble, warm, and unbothered by pretense. You won’t find a velvet rope or performative wine snobbery here — just good people, a view that silences your phone, and flights that unfold like chapters in a dusty American novel. Every bottle had a story. One had wild blackberry and dusky cedar. Another tasted like late summer and the memory of rain. But the Cab Franc? That one stopped me. Like a campfire conversation you remember a decade later. The folks behind the counter? Kind, real, and clearly in love with the process. They’re not selling a lifestyle. They’re sharing what the land gave them. If you’re anywhere near Echo or drifting through the eastern side of Oregon, go here. Not to be impressed. Not to chase trends. But to remember how simple things — done honestly — can still surprise the hell out of you.
Richard H — Google review
Love the small winery feel, something for everyone’s tastes! The grounds are so beautiful and we appreciated the dog (well behaved) space. Filled up our car with CF Rose and Three Blondes and a Boy.
Michelle M — Google review
We stayed here through Harvest Hosts and had a great experience. Since it was a hot day, my wife tried their watermelon wine slushy—refreshing and absolutely delicious—while I enjoyed a couple of their beers. We also shared a veggie and hummus plate, which was equally tasty. The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We highly recommend this spot!
American D — Google review

So many cute sitting areas for wine tasting. Unique decor. Even the ceiling lights were well done. Lois is so friendly and knowledgeable of the areas history. Really enjoyed the wine and the visit. We will be back.

Discovered this wonderful winery through Harvest Hosts and stopped by on a trip to Pendleton, OR. Enjoyed a lovely afternoon tasting wine on the patio. All of their wines were excellent and we left with a nice selection, but the Petit Verdot is exceptional. We will definitely be back.

Amazing reds and friendly service. Beautiful building and outdoor areas

While we didn’t partake in libations, we really enjoyed the atmosphere and folks that work here. Sno Road Winery hosted a cycling event (Echo Red to Red). The interior is nostalgic and comfortable. The outside area has a huge fireplace, different area to relax and an area for the musicians, who were quite good! God willing, we’ll see you next year!
Dianna M — Google review
Wine is amazing! We showed up as a group of six and they were having a private event but still let us do a tasting. Super friendly staff. Will definitely be back!

Pendleton is a charming destination known for its woolen products and historic attractions. The Pendleton Woolen Mills, established in 1909, offers guided tours where visitors can learn about the wool production process and explore a store featuring unique blankets, clothing, and accessories. Additionally, the town boasts several parks such as Roy Raley Park and Pioneer Park, providing green spaces and recreational facilities for both locals and tourists to enjoy.
This was my first time shopping this store and I definitely recommend it. I was greeted as soon as I walked in with a warm hello and I genuinely want to help me if I needed it. I was searching for new born baby items to take my daughter in Missouri, the ladies knew exactly where to direct me and was not hoovering or pushy sales. I was very happen with the quality and my gifts was a huge hit at the shower. I would also like to add the lady that checked me out went out of her way to get me savings and was so kind during the transaction.
Lynda S — Google review
Large, clean, well-maintained store - filled to the brim with all things Pendleton! They have a huge variety of blankets (robes), and all types of clothing. We were greeted immediately upon entering and directed to the sale racks and boy did we find sales! High quality items at affordable prices. Professional, yet fun and friendly staff members made our shopping experience here at Pendleton top notch! We will definitely return.
Dianna M — Google review
took their 11AM tour, it was less than 20 minutes long and our guide was very knowledgeable! we got “passports” that gave us 20% off at the store. I got a tshirt, sticker, and coat for less than $70! amazing price for amazing quality. i really loved visiting and learning, and would love to see their other locations!
Logan L — Google review
What a wonderful store! I sadly was not able to get onto one of the tours but the store itself has a small sel directed gallery area with a ton of information. You are also able to see into the mill area and watch the blankets being made, it is so cool! The back of the store has an area where they sell “seconds” at a wonderful price. I bought a fabulous blanket that I am absolutely thrilled with! The staff we all very knowledgeable and kind, it was an awesome experience!!
Lisa S — Google review
As a Canadian artist who paints Hudson’s Bay blankets, I was curious to see what Pendleton has to offer this blanket loving painter. Booked the tour and also bought some blankets. Enjoyed a wonderful behind the scenes tour of the factory, wonderful to see how the blankets are made and enjoyed seeing all the spindles of colourful wool. Also bought a few blankets that were considered seconds with minor imperfections. They also have a small museum about the relationship with the Native American tribes with which they traded merchandise. Wonderful staff and iconic products.
Brandy S — Google review
Visiting the Pendleton factory was amazing. They have sale items that would otherwise be unavailable online. They offer factory tours Monday thru Thursday.
Brad R — Google review
Pretty nice selection of Pendleton wool blankets and themed clothes, etc. This location is actually in Pendleton, OR at its original location, but their Portland store has a much larger selection.
Mike N — Google review
Never been to a Pendelton store so really wanted to go to their factory outlet. Huge selection of wool blankets. Think the only thing made thete was the wool items, most everything else made in Vietnam and China

My husband and I went on a date and we both had the Roll The Dice burgers with fries. The food was delicious. The staff was very friendly. The place was clean. There weren't many people there and I our order came quickly. And of course we had to order an appetizer. I think it was caller "Bread makes you fat?" Or something like that.
Kimberly L — Google review
Great atmosphere, everyone is really inviting. Great variety of food. Food was hot and quick, very tasty! Only thing I didn’t care for, when I asked for the check, waitress just said… that will be $62. No paper receipt to see what I was charged for. She then handed me a hand held machine to add a tip. First time I’ve seen that. Overall, we would visit again though
Kris Z — Google review
Delicious burger and fries. You can tell the food is all hand made and did not come out of a box in the freezer. Next time we are in town we will come back.
Woodyacat — Google review
Need smaller tables. The tables are so long that the waitress was unable to take orders from the people against the wall. I was able to order a drink when I first arrived but as more people came and sat at the table the waitress was only able to talk to the people at the other end. I would have like to order something more. Next time I will try and sit at the other end of the table.
Eric J — Google review
We have been here a couple times the food is excellent and their bloody Mary’s are delicious! We really enjoyed the different types of flavored vodka. The service was pretty good too. UPDATE!!! We came again and were blown away by ROLLING THE DICE! Thank you CAMILLE and KADEN who we requested to meet! We ordered “roll the dice” Mac and cheese, burger and pizza!! What an AMAZING and INCREDIBLE choice!
Jledouxable — Google review
Dog friendly patio. Delicious food and great drinks. The housemade vodkas are amazing. Make sure you try their bread basket. They have super sized portions. Rolling the dice for your Mac & Cheese toppings or your burger was a great call. The loaded nachos is huge. They have a big patio with heaters. Nice environment and friendly staff.

Delicious drinks and huge portions of food. Ordered the Bowl-o- Burrito, and it was great. It was kind of heavy on the rice, which I imagine folks who like rice a lot more than I do would appreciate. Overall, it was an excellent pit stop on our cross state trek.

The Italian Renaissance Revival-style structure was refurbished in 1996 by the Arts Council of Pendleton and now features rotating exhibits and art galleries. This multi-venue arts center also serves as a concert venue with intimate shows showcasing various music genres.
The Center for the Arts was a great stop during our walk through Pendleton. They had a collection of local art available for purchase. We really enjoyed spending a little time creating some work of our own in the Creation Station. Everyone was welcoming and helpful.

Beautiful building with lots of opportunities for artists hidden inside. Highly recommend every artist visit this place. They have a "creation station" where you can come use their art supplies for free and create while they are open. Lots of merchandise made by local artists for sale and so much more to explore.

My daughter introduced me to the fabulous concerts that the PCA hosts. I've been to 3 with her and she's been to more. It's a wonderful event they do! We were passing through town and I always try to find the best park in town for lunch and to let my kids get some energy out. The tables looked clean in the picnic area, the park was empty, had clean bathrooms, shade, and was SO fun. It was absolutely perfect.

Our toddler loved this playground. We stopped by on a road trip. We appreciated the toddler section of the playground. There is a small parking lot as well as street parking.

This is a fun wooden park located on north hill in Pendleton Oregon that has been thru a lot over the past few decades, but it still stands strong, proud & colorful AF Thanks to the community coming together each time its had a rough time or went through what its went through EVERY time its had a set back. Ive saw this park bounce back from the help of the community every time <3 xoxox If you're looking for a nice place to heat up some hot dogs 🐕 😆 chz burgers 🍔 🌭 🍟 or some BBQ lunch of some kind with your kiddos or some friends n family 👪 THIS is the park Id reccomend you guys go to this park beforegoing to any of the other "main" parks in/around town 1st! + there is a tombstone there that goes along with 1 of Pendletons (or Oregon's) "haunted trail" around town or in Oregon. The baby was only a couple of months old. Idky the tombstome is there & its the only 1 there too, but it is. Hope to see your guyses pictures of this park after you see mine from the park, June 30th 2020.

Amazing park with many accommodations for small children. Parking wasn't great, but it's in a beautiful part of town.

Great kid-friendly park and play structure! A destination in its own right. Lots of fun things for all ages.. There is a shelter with picnic tables and a restroom. Plenty of shade trees in summer.. It even has a Little Free Library sponsored by the Pendleton Lions 🦁 Club. Spring is springing in Pioneer Park, even if it is February. The Little Free Library was restocked. Please feel free to drop off some of your books. We especially need books for kids, teens, and teens.

Nice playground area. A good sized green grass area as well. Limited parking.

The park toy area is fantastic. It also incorporates the local animal bird kingdom which is awesome for children's learning. I just don't feel comfortable about the grave stones, a bit creepy to try to not explain while explaining to a 2 yr old.

A must visit when in Pendleton; love that smell of leather when you enter the store. Great western wear!

The restaurant staff were wonderful. I chose a salad because I was traveling and wanted something easy to take back to my room. Ut wasn't very good cold. I'm sure their other entrees are much better.

Well this store is a one of kind experience with one of a kind employees! Six stars wouldn’t be enough! You just cannot find a place that has the incredible quality of products, people and history this place has. My buddy and I had no intention of buying anything specific and walked out with brand new boots that were perfect for our needs. Rachelle took the time to help shape up my friend’s antique hat that had been his fathers and taught us all about the history of the shop and the furniture inside. We will be customers for life and bringing friends anytime we can!

Trained by French masters, the chocolatiers ensure top-notch quality from cacao bean to bar. Visitors rave about the delightful wine and chocolate tastings, friendly service, and homemade gelato. Alexander’s always reminds me of the chocolate shop in the movie ‘Chocolat’, I absolutely love visiting every time I’m in town! The chocolate selection is huge and everything I’ve had is delicious. Their sipping chocolate is especially amazing. I love the wine and chocolate parting, it’s really fun to do and you can see they love what they do! It’s a small shop with limited seating but it’s absolutely worth the stop!

Wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable owners! Decadent chocolates and delicious gelato! Cute outdoor seating area and cozy inside small tables and chairs.
Kim C — Google review
I stopped in for a wine and chocolate tasting. Every type of chocolate I was offered was delicious and paired beautifully with the wine. The owner Steve is very hospitable and a wealth of knowledge about both wine and chocolate. I had one of their homemade pizzas which was amazing. I also tried the homemade gelato, and it was also delicious. I would highly recommend stopping here to sample any of the aforementioned delicacies. I will be back the next time I am in the area.
Jacqui U — Google review
Place had quite good chocolate, owners were relatively kind. But the prices of the place indicated a total rip off. A nespresso costs you seven and a half dollars! Places in Portland are way cheaper than this and have the same quality. So if you are rich enough to afford, the chocolate is good. But for the other 80 percent of us it’s almost impossible to spend less than ten bucks for two.
Lou R — Google review
You can't say you love chocolate until you have tasted this sipping chocolate. The mocha latte is so smooth and amazing. The attention you get is so personalized, professional and considerate. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

They have free printable papers for the travels for kids, don’t miss out on this one. The outside of the place looks small, but it’s pretty big inside. There’s a total of 12 or more things to do for your kids. They also have a store if you need to buy toys or learning things for your kids. The lady at the front desk was super sweet. She will let you know the rules before your children roams the place. They have snacks you can buy as well. Crafting room has lots of supplies to make things or color things.

We’ve stopped by here on many annual vacations to and from the northwest. It’s often our reason for staying in Pendleton. I’ll be sad when our kids outgrow this museum. Great for kids 10 and under, but older kids can find ways to be entertained also. I left my Kindle here once on accident, and hey we’re kind enough to mail it to me in Utah.

Tamastslikt Cultural Institute

Museum
Natural History Museums
Exhibits & videos detailing the impact of the Oregon Trail & pioneer settlement on Native tribes.
We were very grateful for efficient air conditioning when we stopped here on a hot day. We were greeted immediately by a friendly staff member and directed to the museum. The exhibits are well-constructed, thoughtfully-presented, and organized to flow from one concept to the next. I felt like I got a good summary of the culture and history represented here, including the less pleasant details. My kids kind of rushed through it (they didn't pause to read much), but even they came away with new ideas to think about.
Hawaiian S — Google review
It was nice, the building is really big for what you can actually see, the actual museum is quite small so it feels like you’re paying a lot because the museum is small but it was informational and a nice stop.

An incredibly eye opening experience! We left with a completely different view of the history we've been taught compared to reality, so sad, and wished we could apologize to everyone on behalf of all the awful things we did to all the native tribes. Very informative along with stunning displays and pictures. Incredibly clean, well laid out, and the staff is very friendly. We believe everyone should experience this museum to understand the truth of our nation's history.
Miranda P — Google review
For me, this was a fascinating experience. From sitting at a campfire and hearing the creation story, to listening to other stories in the real sized long house I was completely immersed. The depiction of how our indigenous people were affected by western expansionism affected me to the point that I had to excuse myself from the group to collect my emotions. Upon leaving, I share the hopeful optimism that this community will thrive in all of its endeavors.

Exceeded my expectations. Well thought out and comprehensive exhibits "in the round". Illustrates 400yrs of evolving of the Tribes' relationship with the land the immigrants. Don't forget your Senior and/or AAA discount. Cafe and restrooms, Pendleton gift shop, bring your credit card.

The tour explores underground tunnels where Chinese laborers lived while working on regional railroad operations and where illicit businesses like brothels and speakeasies operated with hidden escape tunnels. This unique experience provides insight into Pendleton's captivating past and is a must-do activity in town for those interested in local history.
Loved it! Our guide Brad Wilson was fun and engaging and kept it entertaining and fun to learn about Pendleton's underground history. He grew up in the area so he has a little extra insight about the area. I highly recommend the Pendleton Underground Tour. It was a super fun 2 hour tour!

The tour was absolutely fabulous. Our tour guide Nicole did a lovely job. Showing us different rooms that displayed different time periods within the community. Some showed an old bar, original ice creamery freezer, a speakeasy, old Chinese jail cells, opium layer, and even the towns most famous Madame (and her home). Quite fascinating!

Visitors can enjoy self-guided tours or arrange guided tours for groups to gain deeper insights from knowledgeable docents.
Went on an adventure to Pendleton to check this place out and it's a little expensive for a small town museum however it was a cool place to check out. It has some nice displays like the settlers cabin and the Caboose but I would have thought there would be more to the native American displays seeing how they are a big part of the local history.. check it out for yourself sometime.

We stopped by to use the free dump station, and also had antsy kiddos. 3+ kids are $5, adults $10. Fantastic, fenced-in open area for kids to run around, watch a train go by if you're lucky, and a little wheat play table for toddlers. I did offer to clean up but the kind staff dismissed me with a smile. The exhibits looked very interesting for older kids and adults, the bathrooms were clean, and overall a great quick stop for us on our trip.
Lindsey L — Google review
My family really enjoyed our visit. It was hot outside but my kids enjoyed the caboose and Fire truck the most! We will definitely be bringing more family with us next time. We used the Discover and Go pass from the Library when we went.
Kimberly L — Google review
This was a nice museum with local pioneer history. You can go into an old log house that is furnished as it might have been. Recorded audio tells about the family that built and lived in the home. The museum also has a caboose to walk through and a pioneer barn to peek inside. In the museum building are numerous displays of Pioneer life. The admission price could not be better: $4 for seniors and $5 for adults.

Definitely worth a visit. The interior exhibits are informative, but the outdoor exhibits are where the fun is. If you have a kid (or kid-at-heart) who likes trains, come check out the yellow caboose!

Wildhorse Golf Course

Golf course
Outdoor Activities
Wildhorse Golf Course provides a pleasant first impression with friendly and professional staff in the pro shop. The course itself is well-maintained by an exceptional Superintendent and maintenance crew, evident from the impeccable tee boxes, lush fairways, and outstanding greens. Despite a scorching summer, the course remains vibrant and green. The meticulously raked traps are free from any unwanted weeds. Additionally, the golf carts are of high quality and the clubhouse boasts stunning views of the surrounding hills and farmland throughout.
Played 9/30/24. Absolutely phenomenal in every way. Just like playing any resort in Vegas or phoenix. Perfect green fairways, and greens of your dreams. Rough kept to a maximum 2”. Pace of play excellent. Probably the nicest golf carts I’ve Ever been in. You could play here for a month straight and not get tired of it. Excellent layout. Beautiful views. Highly recommend!
Jerott A — Google review
A beautiful course, very well maintained. We played the course with plans for a group get together in “26”. With the treatment we received yesterday the 22nd of Oct. it will not happen I will never play your course again. We were letting a twosome play through when we were told we had to pick up the pace. No one behind us and again we were approached from the clubhouse saying at the pace we were playing it would take us 5 hours to play 9 holes. When we turned in our carts there was exactly eight cars in the parking lot. We will share our experience with friends.
Sharla S — Google review
It's always nice to see a smiling face when you first arrive - Sedia in the pro shop was very kind, professional and accommodating, as was Nathan when I decided to continue on with the back 9. Beautiful golf course! The Superintendent and maintenance crew are to be commended for keeping it so immaculate. The tee boxes were tidy and well-turfed without any bare spots; the fairways and greens were outstanding - very lush and green despite a very hot summer! Traps were raked and without any weeds. Very nice carts. Beautiful clubhouse. Great views of the surrounding hills and farmland from the entire course. Overall great golf experience on a very playable track...I'll be back!
James P — Google review
Nice casino course. Well maintained. Little costly considering we were a play and stay. Tee times are very closely timed together. So be ready to get pushed from groups behind. Pro shop guy was a bit rude. Mike something very arrogant. Decent amount of goodies in pro shop. Not over priced too bad and the snacks and drinks weren’t overly expensive. Might play again next time passing through.
TNT — Google review
Great track. Well maintained, from tee to green. Bunkers were clean, and abundant. Some water, but not a wild amount. This course is wide open: there are a few trees, but not towering rows of them all over the place. The layout of this course is pretty easy, not much to it. Very playable for golfers of all abilities. Friendly staff and a good price. Fun round to play after a late night staying at the casino with friends.
Nick S — Google review
Horrible experience! There is no accountability for anything, players beware!!! After talking to the “pro” shop, if you would even call them a pro… scheduled 2 players to walk at 4:40 to play a full 18. Unfortunately due to the lack of other players not finding there ball for 4 holes in a row costed us not to finish. Confronted the pro shop about this and said “to bad, it’s your fault” and now I paid for a 18 hole that I could not complete.
Stephen T — Google review
The course was in great shape. Nice driving range.
Kevin A — Google review
$45 weekday price is an excellent value and you’d be hard pressed to find a contender. Course is in excellent shape from tee to green and the course is just downright fun! The practice range is real grass and it’s plush! Wish this could be my home course but I will be playing this track every chance I get. Keep up the good work Wildhorse!

Went to the Happy Canyon Night Show and had a blast with my family. There was more story and history for the Native Americans piece vs the Settlers it seemed, but that's okay. I felt it had a bigger impact on the audience, especially in this political climate we're in. It did for me, and hurt my heart for the Tribes seeing so many of them proudly representing their people and what happened to their ancestors. I didn't know ahead of time that there was loud, heavy pyrotechnics and it did trigger my dad who is a Veteran with PTSD. We were a little late, so if it was announced beforehand we missed it, and I didn't see it on the website, so heads up to anyone attending in the future. Great time for all ages!

Wildhorse also has a bowling alley, arcade, movie theater, and golfing, there is something for everyone. Not to mention slots and poker. The pool is nice and they also have a hot tub and sauna. I would definitely bring my family to Wildhorse for a good time.

Stayed here while on our family road trip. We were greeted by a friendly staff member and checked right in. The grounds were well kept and the park location was perfect, just a short drive off of I-84. The RV sites are nice and level, the utilities are perfectly located. It was great to have the park close to the casino and as a plus, they offer a free shuttle that picks you up at your site. The kids enjoyed the pool and everything they had to offer. We will absolutely stay here again.

Was just passing through town and wanted to check out the casino. Loved this place! Has so many old skool games that I haven't seen in years. It's nice to see a wide variety of games and not the same few games throughout the entire casino like so many casinos are nowadays. Was pretty easy to win on many of the games as well, and feels good to actually walk out with money in your hand! We will definitely go back again some day.

5-Star Review – Outstanding Experience at Wildhorse Casino & Hotel! My recent stay at Wildhorse Casino and Hotel in Pendleton, Oregon was nothing short of excellent. From the moment we arrived, the level of service and hospitality far exceeded our expectations. A special shoutout goes to Sarah, our host, whose professionalism, warmth, and exceptional customer service truly made our trip memorable. She went above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of, and her friendly demeanor made us feel like valued guests from the very start. The hotel check-in staff were equally impressive—quick, friendly, and incredibly accommodating. They made the arrival process smooth and stress-free. Additionally, the Player Services/Card staff did an outstanding job connecting us with a host and helping us secure a beautiful complimentary room, which was a wonderful surprise and greatly appreciated. We also enjoyed the Traditions Restaurant buffet, which offered a wide variety of delicious, well-prepared dishes. Everything was fresh and flavorful, and the dining staff kept the atmosphere welcoming and relaxed. Overall, our experience at Wildhorse Casino and Hotel was truly fantastic—excellent service, great food, and a team that genuinely cares about its guests. We are already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommended! Sincerely, Dean and Kimberly Goff

It's basically your fun, average casino. The hotel is usually booked out every weekend and the card tables are usual packed as well so good luck finding a table to play at. The bar has great drinks and food service. The live bands can be enjoyable too with a small dance floor.
Justin B — Google review
We are redoing our review because now the hotel tore down the old dingy rooms and they're building a new tower. We are so happy that they are still allowing dogs in certain rooms. We hope that this continues when the new Wing gets built. This is one of our favorite casino hotels now. Staff is very friendly. The food is good. The gambling is just okay, but not bad. Lots of options for machines. It's worth joining their Players Club. They are very generous with their free nights and other rewards. And if you have kids, there is a wing with an arcade, bowling alley, movie theater, and food court. I guess these are for adults as well! We actually bowled here a couple times and ate at the food court.

Continues to be disappointing. We have stayed here no less than seven times in last 12 months No less than three times plus this trip one of two elevators not working which means likely dozens of times The wait is ridiculous. This visit as well one tiny bar of soap in bathroom which had the glass shower in parts with plastic shower curtain Refrigerator not functioning maintenance required hot tub jets not working As they build new tower the existing is becoming dilapidated I am sitting in my room listening to constant noise of service elevator across the hall Folks from Boise area as we are rejoice last week in the announcement of our Idaho tribes soon to break ground on new Casino and resort just east of Boise In meantime buyer be ware and good by to Jackpot as well and cactus Pete’s which is a dump

My hideaway truck parking! The venue has alot to offer, other than gambling. Kid friendly with a movie theater and a bowling alley. Wish I had more time to explore

Thomas Orchards

Orchard
Sights & Landmarks
Farms
We visited this orchard last peach season. We were able to pick our own peaches and they provided all the tools to be able to so. The peaches were mouth wateringly delicious! The best part of our day was seeing a bear cub on our way home just outside of the orchard.
Quentin B — Google review
We recently bought 2 boxes of peaches from Thomas Orchard, one of #2s and one of number ones. The number 2s were pretty much as expected. The number ones looked good on the top row except for two were wormy, but under the top layer they had hidden the junk. Most were worse then the number 2s, some were not much bigger then a chicken eg and all were wormy. We have purchased fruit from Tomas Orchard's since the mid 60s and have always been satisficed with the quality, You can bet we will never buy fruit again. We recommend looking under the top layer if you buy fruit.
Carol S — Google review
Wonderful orchard. Best is to pick your own fruit 🍑. If someone can climb a ladder which are provided.Fruit is best at the top of the trees. They also sell wonderful honey. Also have fruit already picked but love to pick our own
Janice W — Google review
Thomas Orchards has quality produce at very reasonable prices. They sell by the pound or by the box - whatever you need. Plus they feature other local producers of honey, blueberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, etc. And handmade soaps and lotions, and dried fruits. It's a real treat to visit the Orchards.

Fresh seasonal fruits, sweet and delicious. Buy what has been picked or pick your own! Right now its plumcuats, apricots and cherries! Also honey! ..... It's a must stop!!!

Dewitt Museum & Sumpter Valley Railway Depot

Museum
Specialty Museums
Great way to learn about local area culture and history. Dewitt Museum is located in Historic Sumpter Valley Railway Depot building. Nice Depot RV Park, covered picnic area and playground also there.

We never did tour the museum but stayed a few days at the Depot RV park. I had been here prior and had a good experience. This visit was in May and the park was almost completely full the whole time. When we first arrived the was no toilet paper and we were told the hosts were out of town. The next day the toilet paper was filled but the bathroom was still rather dirty. In fact it stayed that way our whole visit. The is no cable or wifi and the local amenities are scarce with one market, one gas station and one mini-mart. That being said the price cant be beat as we were in my homemade camper we only require power. This allowed us to stay in the tent camper category which ran us $15.00 a night. Great value. 👍🌟🌟🌟

The Thomas Condon Paleontology Center, located 2 miles north of Hwy 26 at Sheep Rock Unit, offers a fascinating look into the area's rich paleontological history. The center features well-presented displays showcasing a variety of fossils, geologic-history exhibits, and vivid murals depicting ancient plant and animal life. Visitors can observe researchers cleaning up discoveries through a large window in the lab and watch an informative 18-minute film summarizing the region's paleo-history.
Very cool museum. It's worth stopping in if you're driving through the area. It is free to look around, but they do accept donations.

Awesome museum out in the middle of nowhere. We drove the 1.5 hours from prineville on a very hot July Friday afternoon. We got here about 30 minutes before closing. My 3 young boys loved this wonderful walk back in time. Very well done exhibits show you the history of this otherworldly area. Crazy to see there was Tigers and rhinos and camels in the oregon outback not too many millions of years ago. The unique geology of the area is highlighted here through lots of fossils and castings. Very highly recommended you come here before or after seeing the Painted Hills unit.
Rory S — Google review
Very nice information center with a small museum attached to it. It was great to see the fossils found in the area up close. The rangers were also very helpful in explaining the area and other cool places nearby. The location also features an incredible viewpoint right from the parking lot.
Leah P — Google review
We didn't know what to expect and we had our 4 year old with us. This place was great, and we all enjoyed it. The exhibits are well done and interesting for all ages. Beautiful view from the parking lot. Didn't have time explore any of the hikes but will be planning a trip back to this area.
Jessica A — Google review
What a fun visit! Start with the visitor center and do the whole tour. There's a lot to learn before you do the hikes. Starting with an understanding of how the fossils were uncovered helps to make sense of what you're seeing when you're making your way up the hiking trail. There is a bit of a climb up to see the fossils and experience the search locations yourself.
Eric J — Google review
This place was fascinating! Apparently, the area is a premier site for a large variety of fossils, both plant and animal. It was very interesting to learn what the environment was like many years ago and how the plants and animals were buried and preserved. I just had time to see the visitor center, but hope to go back and explore some trails and outdoor exhibits as well.

US Forest Service, Malheur National Forest

Visitor center
Nature & Parks
The visitor center at the US Forest Service, Malheur National Forest is an excellent facility with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The lobby is filled with informative displays, including fossils. Although initially confusing to find the right building and door, it becomes clear quickly. Many people have made the mistake when trying to obtain a firewood cutting permit. The staff is always available to answer questions and provides free maps of the area.
Alot of information and staff is friendly

great facility, very helpful staff and a lot of info in the lobby and things to look at, like fossils on display! a little confusing figuring out which building and door to go to at first, but we figured it out pretty quick. the signs indicated we weren't the first people making the mistake while attempting to get out firewood cutting permit.

Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site is a historic trading post on The Dalles Military Road, dating back to 1866 and 1867. It offers free guided tours that provide insight into the history of the place, showcasing the significant role played by Chinese settlers in Johnday's early days. The site is a well-preserved time capsule, reflecting the investment and services provided to the community despite facing oppression and violence.
I had been told about this place many years ago, and had been wanting to visit. So, I made plans with a friend to make John Day, Oregon, a stop on our road trip. It's rare to be able to walk through a true time capsule. But that is what Kam Wah Chung State Heritage site truly is. I am so grateful for the foresight of persons who understand the importance of preserving history, especially to honor all that these two gentlemen contributed to the John Day community. If you are a history nerd like me, you will love this little gem. There is also an interpretive center that goes with it. I could have spent hours looking around at everything in this place. Tours are free, and the volunteers are full of information.

Very interesting, oldest Chinese mercantile in the country. Have to sign up for a tour to see the inside of the old store. It's free but folds up fast.

Cool bit of Oregon history to stop and check out. We were too late for the free tour but would definitely take it if we had made it in time. Worth the stop if your passing through John Day
Rory S — Google review
Very nice experience. I thought the tooling marks on the Rattlesnake Tuff volcanic rocks were unique. The Ranger informed me of its probable cold chisel origin when flattening the stones for exterior use. Very strongly built structure.
Level C — Google review
My wife and I took some special needs clients here. It was totally worth the time to stop and learn about the past history of this place. If your in town sightseeing be sure to take the free guided tour while you still can someday this will be closed to the public and you'll only get to visit the interpretive center down the street.

This museum is an excellent introduction to the history of this area. I was particularly impressed by their displays about the indigenous people there. I enjoy collecting pretty rocks and I liked seeing what other people had found in this area. I liked their old jail building because it had been "stolen" from another county.

I was 13 years old when my dad took us three kids to that museum, and oh my I got to see an antique car with solid rubber tires, and a two-headed calf. outside was the San Juaquin Miller Cabin, and the Greenhorn Jail right next to it which it was so cool to go inside. I also revisited it with my mom when I was 21.

We visited the museum this afternoon and were surprised to find such a large assortment of historical artifacts. The curator was very knowledgable, and she told us several stories and shared some unique insights. The local residents are fortunate to have this gem available to them. Also found the nearby Canyon City Historical District to be interesting.

Interesting area with lots of history spread around this little area. Make sure and take a walk around town and see where Gold was first discovered in this area in the early 1860’s. Go behind the museum and cross the street and look for the big sign and old ore car and monitor nozzle.
