Gateway to the volcano with exhibits like a working seismograph, plus a wetlands hiking path.
Not to far off the beaten path. A quick 10 minutes off the freeway, I'm glad a stopped. The building was closed but I was able to walk behind the building to the boardwalk over the Lilly pads for a very scenic view. It was s flat short full circle hike. Was able to take some great pictures!

This visitor center is a good place to start if you’re coming down from the north side on I-5. The very welcoming staff at the information desk can help you plan your visit. The outdoor area, an accessible .6 mile trail and restrooms, are free to the public. Indoors, a small but well curated museum is open with $5 admission. Kids 6 and under are free, but honestly the material is best suited for grades 3 and up.
Jay R — Google review
We arrived at the perfect time—just before three large buses of visitors pulled in! That gave us a peaceful window to explore the lakeside trail and take in the views before heading into the interpretive center and gift shop. The staff here are always so friendly, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable. You can tell they’re passionate about the area and its history. We appreciated how accessible everything was, and parking was a breeze when we arrived around 1:30 PM. The center itself offers a great blend of information, interactive displays, and a well-curated gift shop. It’s a great stop for anyone wanting to learn more about the 1980 eruption, local ecology, and the mountain’s ongoing story. Highly recommend timing your visit mid-afternoon if you want to avoid the crowds
Misha S — Google review
I remember coming here as a child and have fond memories of seeing the displays and especially the "lava hole". Coming back as an adult, I remember how awesome the facility is and building is! Very cathedral like and awesome hand carved reliefs around the structural posts. Cool Japanese tile throughout. It's no wonder this is the most or one of the most visited Park centers in Washington. I got to help with some exibits and it was an honor to be there. Well worth the visit.
Christopher D — Google review
A cute little visitor center and museum for Mount St. Helens. We went on a rainy day so it was pretty empty. Grabbed a few souvenirs and walked through the wetlands behind the center. It was a beautiful and easy loop and made the stop worth it!
Julia W — Google review
No pass was needed for the visitor centers we stopped at, there is electronic pay meter for the picnic area and boat ramp at Coldwater Lake, can use America The Beautiful pass for these areas. Bountiful information and hands on activities even the kids will enjoy! Go in the theaters and watch the show giving insight into the eruption. The road to Johnston Ridge is closed due to washed out bridge and roadway, says repairs may be done by 2027 or 2028. We were here on a cloudy day so could not see the Crater. This was at the science and exploration center for Coldwater Lake. Beautiful views and easy drive even towing our 5th wheel RV.
TL B — Google review
A great place to start your visit to Mount Saint Helens Volcanic Monument. There are historic descriptions of the indigenous First Nations that populated the area, scientific displays, educational movies, and a comprehensive exploration of the events leading up to the May 18, 1980 eruption.
Roy A — Google review
Wonderful visitor center with an awesome information exhibit. Small entrance fee to see the display, but worth the price as it was like a museum of Mt St Helens history. Loved seeing and reading about all the volanco history.

Lake Sacajawea Park Japanese Gardens

Mentioned on

Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Lake Sacajawea Park Japanese Gardens is a beautiful and serene spot within the expansive Lake Sacajawea Park. Inspired by traditional Japanese garden design, it features a scenic bridge leading to a small island adorned with Japanese-inspired flora, rocks, and water features. The park itself offers ample parking and opportunities for leisurely walks amidst well-maintained grounds.
One of my favorite parks even though it takes me 3 hours on 3 connecting busses to get here from Olympia, WA. I like the Japanese Garden at Lake Sacajawea, but this trip it was closed for Bird Nesting. Too bad, since flowers are blooming now. Walking through the neighborhoods between the bus stop and lake is very nice. Cherry trees are in bloom.
Bob S — Google review
Perfect spot for a quick break or power nap! Free roadside parking makes it super convenient, and the shade from the trees is amazing—especially if there’s a breeze. It’s peaceful, relaxing, and honestly hard to beat. If you’re passing through Longview, this park is a must-stop.
Elizabeth K — Google review
Nice but very small. Stop by to enjoy the park early in the morning.

This park is a wonderful place to visit. The surroundings are serene and peaceful. The landscaping is beautifully manicured. I enjoyed working outside at a park bench while being surrounded by beauty. I recommend this park!
Tammy M — Google review
Nice little park, with plenty to do for everyone. The Japanese garden is the best part about the park in my opinion, but the lake is just as good. Small playground on one side of the park, a restroom, and people were walking their dogs around. If you wanted, you could also have a picnic, just wait for summer though.
DaBaby — Google review
These pictures are of the far West side of the lake close to Ocean Beach HWY. On the outer skirts of the lake is a dirt and light gravel wide walking path that circles the whole lake with multiple bridges along the path to cross over to the other side. People walk, run, jog, walk pets, bicycle, and some even kayak out on the lake. On the far West side of the lake is an island they built a walkable wooden bridge to and created a walk-around Japanese Garden that's only open at certain days and times. Around the center of the lake and on the far East side there are multiple playgrounds for kids and there's a multitude of park benches and picnic tables surrounding the entire lake. There's a ton of squirrels, ducks, and geese around the lake depending on the time of year. Everything 4th of July they have a fireworks show and flea market little fairgrounds festival around the center of the lake!
Christopher W — Google review
We arrived on a Sunday and The island was closed. The island looks beautiful from the outside. We were mislead because the hours posted on Google were for the park itself. I've since added the island location and the hours posted to help anyone else interested in visiting. Perhaps on another day we can get to the island itself.
Bob T — Google review
Best botanical garden I've ever been to. It's calm, clean, the staff are always very friendly and eager to answer questions. You actually feel like you are in Japan.

I have been a long time sloth lover and coming here my dreams came true! The staff was very nice and they seem to really care about the animals. This is an amazing must do experience!
Beth B — Google review
Absolutely AMAZING!! Worth every penny. The owner and staff were extremely welcoming, and made our stay comforting and so much fun. They know their info too! Very well versed in every species on the property, and their passion for the animals is beyond heartwarming. The sloths were engaged and very sweet. Our sleeping setup was comfortable and fun. We even got to meet some of the other animals on the property, including the owner's beautiful dogs! Before we left in the morning, they brought out a surprise animal (in our case it was a tucan!) and one of the people in my group got to hold one of the sloths (extra fee and you need to sign up ahead of time). Anyway, I definitely recommend this place to any and all animal lovers that would like to take the trip. It's a once in a lifetime experience you'll never forget!

We absolutely ADORED our camping trip at the Sanctuary! It was an amazing time w/ these docile sweeties; a bucket list item for sure!!! The sloths were active, happy and obviously well cared for and our guide was happy to inform us of any questions or concerns we had. Be sure to take a nap beforehand because you won't want to miss a moment of feeding them their "candy (cucumber pieces)" & just taking in their wonderful peacefulness. Bring a book or enjoy the fresh Oregon outdoors as they will nap from time to time---we even made friends w/ a sweet young kitty cat living at the Sanctuary as we were taking a break outside. This whole experience made us happy and more thoughtful of our daily lives and we actually miss the sloths! That is how wonderful this experience was! Much Love to what you guys (the Sanctuary staff) are doing, keep up the amazing work!

Absolutely beautiful and well maintained golf course. And this is the public side, so you just know the private course has to be amazing. The course is challenging, but open enough to be forgiving. Cart girl made a fantastic Transfusion. Loved the experience.
Alexander P — Google review
What a fun place to play a round! Challenging course with quick greens and beautiful aesthetics. A few minor hiccups. Playing a shotgun scramble and our cart died about 500 yards from the clubhouse and 500 yards from our hole. It took the team about 20 minutes to bring a replacement which created confusion. Plus, the website indicates rental clubs are $50 but was charged $75. Pretty easy website fix. Other than those two minor issues it was wonderful.
Tim K — Google review
Great place to play golf with friendly staff and excellent course design. My only criticism is the greens were a bit rough around the edges for the price.
John — Google review
Easily a Portland area favorite, I would even say this is one of the best courses within a short drive from the city. They keep the course in excellent condition with amenities of an upscale course. The course itself can be played by all levels from novice to scratch, if you choose the correct tee box and can also provide plenty of challenges. Pace is usually kept at a good pace in the morning and early afternoon right around 4hrs with the expected 4hr and 15 mins. Definitely worth your consideration if you're looking to golf in the upper range prices.
TheRecordButton — Google review
Beautiful course. Great staff. Awesome History ! What more can you say. Really worth a visit.
Christopher M — Google review
4 star review due to price. Course was in decent condition, fairways were nice and greens were well kept. Definitely some standing water in areas. There was no Marshall and no pace of play. Also for $146 with cart, I expect a premium experience. Feels like they just take your money and whatever goes. Front 9 is way more challenging than back.
Zachary P — Google review
The 3 stars are for the great service and scenic setting. I am a 10 handicap and when you think (and pay) for Pumpkin Ridge, you expect more. The course is in very, very rough shape from the amount of rounds that get played there. The tee boxes are bad, the greens have 3 different grasses growing making putting very frustrating, and endless non-sanded divot holes. I would not pay that much to play that course ever again unless it gets a full makeover.
Curt A — Google review
Wow. Hard to believe the last time I was here it was 1997. Immediately following the epic battle when Tiger won his 6th straight U.S. Amateur tournament (three Junior, then three unrestricted). I believe he is the all-time major championship winner with 21 not Jack - with all respect to Jack. This is hallowed ground for golf nuts. The courses are amazing. One private. One public. Call a friend who can get you out on Witch Hollow. This place is a golfer's paradise. It’s a golf club not a country club if you’re following me… Anyone visiting the Portland area it’s a must play - and when you’re done take the long track down to Bandon after. Another gem in the state of Oregon. Both Pumkin tracks have received "best of" awards for public and private courses and only 20 minutes from downtown Portland.

BEST TIME EVER !!! We went today and had the most fun ever!! Our guides were so awesome and we felt so safe the entire time, we did cool tricks, crossed bridges, and saw super beautiful sights !! So fun and I recommend!! Erin and Julian were the best zip guides ever in my lifetime
Rachel C — Google review
Two of us went and joined into a group of 4 others. After meeting our guides and a safety brief we started our journey into the tree canopy. Our guides Danni and Ben where super fun and safe. It took a little under two hours and everyone had a great time. I recommend going as it is not difficult and a ton of fun.
Ryan M — Google review
This place does just guided zip lines through trees. No obstacle course. The zip lines are really good and get high and long. The guides are helpful and basically have a skit they do. Fun!
Larry H — Google review
Omg. You have to do this! Ivan and Mack were the most wonderful guides and truly made me feel SO COMFORTABLE. Our group had folks of all ages. The guides talked us thru tricks and ideas to get more speed or where to look while you are zipping. My kids opted for doing the extras as they are daredevils, while I was more reserved. The views are tremendous. There is no better way to see the Pacific Northwest forest. I promise after your first zip, you'll be glad you went! Thanks to this team for making us feel safe. Great guys!!
Daniela L — Google review
What a great experience for myself, my wife and my nephew & his BFF visiting from the East coast. The guides were fantastic and made the tour fun & safe. For a person who hates heights I felt comfortable with everything. We were taken on time and enjoyed every minute.
Sharon W — Google review
My wife and child had an amazing time. When they got home they couldn't stop talking about their experience. They mentioned Mac and Ben made their time unforgettable. They where very professional and fun.
Mario B — Google review
Amazing time! The guides were super kind and helpful! The trees were so beautiful.
Rebecca C — Google review
Very mid in my opinion. My bf and his mom liked it, they had fun, but I thought it would be a 2 hour long zip lining how it said but it only took us 1 hour. There’s just better zip lines that are cheaper and last a lot longer.

Rainbow Falls State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
139-acre camping park on the Skagit River with a waterfall, a fuchsia garden, trails & swimming.
One of my favorite places to camp, Rainbow Falls never disappoints . My family really enjoys this tucked away spot on the river. We’ve camped here multiple times and always enjoy ourselves. The river is beautiful and not too cold to take a dip in the summertime. Getting down to the river can be a challenge for me as I’m getting older but I find that walking to the west side of the cam area to find access makes it significantly easier. To top it all my kids like the telephone booth that though there is no phone hooked up in it reminds me of simpler times.
Cathleen B — Google review
High marks for beauty, historic locale. No visual privacy at camp sites. A couple nice walks available without having to drive to the other side of the river. Very shady. For early season camping that made it chillier than expected and lots of low-hanging smoke on cloudy day. Restrooms a little underwhelming. 47 camping spots and a group camp going on - the little buildings got a heavy workout. Like all Washington state parks, a Discover pass is required. People were courteous. I enjoyed a walking tour of Chehalis before driving to this park.
C O — Google review
It is a nice campground. Lots of trails to walk to. They do have water area for washing dishes for people that camp. Bathroom are nice and clean.
KuLiTz O — Google review
Went camping for the weekend, the waterfalls were a little underwhelming but still enjoyable. The rocks are very slippery near the water so be cautious if you venture down near it. There isn't a lot to do or see nearby the state park and the Willapa trail nearby is a little boring on foot. Although Dryad's Rest is a neat thing, it hasn't been kept up for a while so the grass has taken it over. On a bike the trail might be more fun, or horses if you are into that.
Dylan T — Google review
Nice place to camp, quiet, shady, lots of trees. Access to the river is difficult, there are no formal paths to the water that don't require climbing down a dirt & rock embankment. Not ADA accessible to the river.
John O — Google review
A favorite destination for my family and me. We've been back several times. This is not "hardcore camping" but a nice state campground with good amenities and a nice river you can play in. Dog friendly as long as you keep the leashed. 🙂👍
Michael H — Google review
Nice park. Camping spots, trails, water to swim (kinda), views. Very nice, clean, bathrooms, parking. Discovery pass.
Jeri Y — Google review
I stopped at Rainbow Falls for a break on a long motorcycle ride. The person in the kiosk at the park entrance was pleasant and helpful. It is a short walk to the falls from the parking lot. The park.looks to be well maintained.

I ate here yesterday with my family and enjoyed my meal. The fish and chips were hot and fresh and very tasty. The two women working were super nice and smoking hot too which for me is always a plus. There's a cool pie vending machine out front. I grabbed a slice of cherry creme pie and it was delicious. There's also a cool little shop where you can buy a lot of berry themed stuff. Definitely would stop in again next time I drive that way.

Super big & fluffy pancakes! They have marionberry syrup to put on them, as well as jam! Service was great, they kept checking in on us & the food was hot & quick. They have a nice ‘gift shop’ area where you can buy marionberry flavored items, which is cool! Lots of pies to choose from, this is a pie lovers dream! Something unique about them is they have a pie vending machine outside the restaurant!
Nicole — Google review
I ordered breakfast… chicken fried steaks, also ordered a biscuit as a side, requested for additional gravy. I was not advised that I would be paying for it, but that's fine. The food presentation is fine; nevertheless, the biscuit is little, and the gravy requires a little seasoning. I requested an extra crispy hash, which was delivered. The waitress was working alone at the time, and she did an excellent job because the place was small, but it became busier just before I left. I awarded it a 4 because management should provide additional assistance at the time of day. It was Sunday around 10am.
Ro W — Google review
Great if you want pie or Marion berry stuff it’s the place to go Very slow service Only serve breakfast for 2 hours (till 11am) Very limited menu I will only stop here again for store not for food in the restaurant
Kevin H — Google review
Pies are good but I wouldn't use vending machine! Went over the weekend but didn't get there before closing, so used the vending pie machine. Was charged for 3 pies and only got 2 pies. I waited until Monday to email to make sure I was charged for 3 pies. My email back was asking me to make sure I was actually charged. I told them it was pending over the weekend and went through Monday. I never got an email back to fix the over charge.
Tina M — Google review
We had the roast beef sandwich and chicken melt. Both very good. Plus marionberry pie. I liked the buttered toasted sandwich bread. Au jus a little as good too. 24-hour pie vending machine for pie emergencies. Will update review after I eat the pie. Our marionberry pie was soooo tasty.
Karen Q — Google review
We are glad we stopped at The Berry Patch Restaurant for our weekend adventure. The food and service were excellent. Though we didn't sample any pies this time, we will on our next adventure.
Justin G — Google review
Absolutely loved this place. Stopped on our way to Cannon Beach for lunch and returned on our way back. Everything we tried on the menu was great. The servers were so friendly and helpful. They also have frozen dinners, biscuits/rolls, pies, etc for sale. We highly recommend giving this little slice of heaven a try.

Wahkiakum County Ferry

This fifteen minute jaunt is a special treat for those seeking to cross the Columbia Open 365 days a year costs only 6 dollars to ride. Experience the wonders of the river up close with this open decked ferry trip. Leaves every hour daily. Have your cameras ready to capture the beauty of the Columbia River up close. Visit the quaint village of Puget Island as part of your trip. I was not disappointed.
Chris G — Google review
A sweet and unexpected surprise, this basic little car ferry from the Washington side of the Columbia river to Oregon and back again. It runs every hour throughout the day, on the hour from Washington and 15 after the hour from Oregon. At only $6 for your car and all the passengers it can hold or $2 to walk on, it's a nice, inexpensive treat. A few notes and warnings: 1. There is no shelter and no bathrooms. It's only an 11 minute ride, but there's not much on either side as far as facilities go, either (although when I went there was a porta-potty on the Oregon side). 2. If you're walking on, take into consideration that it can be pretty cold, depending on when you go. Plan accordingly. 3. There's not much within walking distance on either side. 4. Payment is cash or check only and exact change is much appreciated. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Enjoy the ride!

In the top 10 auto experiences I've ever had tbh. Such a fun little trip. We took my convertible across on a sunny day and it was entirely worth it. The captain and staff were friendly and accommodating since it was my first time.

So much fun to get to go on and explore! Very kind operator's running the fairy and gorgeous view! Bring a coat it gets chilly ☺️
BEE S — Google review
We got on Oscar B at Westport, Oregon, going to Puget Island. We waited about 20 minutes for the Ferry to arrive. The Oscar B River ferry operates on the Columbia between Longview/Rainier and Astoria.
Ted S — Google review
Fast friendly staff. Engaging and professional crew, if you drive your challenger on the ferry , be careful. They won't be kind to you if you need it fixed. They scrape the loading gate and tear the bolts off your undercarriage. The city of Astoria transportation folks are very rude to people asking for help to get your car fixed. They didn't help me at all.
Aaron M — Google review
Very short ride! Doesn’t take you to Astoria, OR as I was told, but saves you time if your driving from Cathlamet. If your driving from Kelso or Longview it unfortunately is not worth you time.

Camp 18

$$$$affordable
American restaurant
Camp 18 is a spacious log cabin restaurant known for its American classics and cocktails. It's a hidden gem with lovely Christmas decorations, making it perfect for a visit during the holiday season. The restaurant offers delicious clam chowder, chili burgers, onion rings, and giant cinnamon rolls that can be enjoyed by the fireplace. Situated on the way from Portland to Cannon Beach in Oregon, this big wooden lodge with mining equipment in the parking lot is hard to miss.
We loved it! This restaurant is a great place to visit. Huge spacious restaurant with typical American atmosphere. Also a great patio (dog friendly). We've ordered a Pepsi, a coffee and a cinnamon roll. It was great. The cinnamon roll was the best we've ever had but I would recommend to share it: it is huuuge. Kristin was our waitress and she was the best, very lovely kind and hard working lady. Also, there is a nice small trail at the back of the restaurant which is worth visiting.
M. M — Google review
One of great places to eat on the Oregon Coast in a log cabin with good food. I was seated after a short wait, and ordered the two pancake breakfast combo with sausage and bacon. The breakfast menu has omelettes, steak, trout, French toast, huge cinnamon rolls and much more. I received my order in about fifteen minutes with no problems. The pancakes were very large and had a nice taste to them with the huckleberry syrup. The sausage has a nice mild taste, the eggs and bacon were not overcooked. You will also find a gift shop, old timber machinery outside, a lunch and dinner menu. Located about eighteen miles from Seaside on the way to Portland on US-26. A nice place to stop for a bite to eat with friendly service, good food, and a rustic log cabin vibe with a fireplace and stuffed animals on the wall.
Ed L — Google review
We came in for a late breakfast which is served until 2:00:pm. It was on a Monday and there was no wait to be seated. We even got a table near the fireplace. The team was very friendly and got our order in quickly, but they were not attentive once we received our meals. E.g. no check-in, water refills, coffee, etc. The table next to us was having difficulties too. My breakfast of biscuits and gravy was good, but bland. I had way more gravy than biscuit. The bacon was great and the eggs were perfect. The best part of our meal was the huge cinnamon roll that we shared. We enjoyed walking around the grounds looking at the old logging equipment. The fall foliage and river made for a beautiful backdrop. The lodge itself and the size of the logs used for construction are amazing.

The most amazing place ever!! Have wanted to go for quite sometime so on a recent trip to Astoria, we stopped on our way home. What a FANTASTIC astmophere!!! Also took a walk after dinner down by the stream and looked at all the incredible vintage machinery on the grounds!!! The food was nothing short of magnificent!!! True homemade goodness! The clam chowder was BY FAR the best I have ever had, far surpassing any I have had on the Coast! Portions were huge and prices very reasonable!! Service was STELLAR and we were welcomed right when we walked in the door. I cannot say enough awesome things about this fabulous restaurant getaway, it felt like a vacation!!!! If you haven't been to Camp18, GO!! No matter how long a drive it might be, it is a real and very unique treat and a MUST DO on anyone's list!❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍

I had driven past here a few different times and had never stopped. Decided to make it a highlight of my trip today and I was not disappointed. I had the giant cinnamon roll and it was so incredibly good but I was not able to finish it because it was very large. The decor is really cool and logger theme. Outside the restaurant there is a lot of really neat old logging equipment to look at so it's worth a stop to grab a bite to eat and stretch your legs and look around. The only drawback is I felt like service was a little low but it was midday around lunch time so I'm sure that that probably had something to do with it....

What a gem in the middle of no where! Staff was friendly, efficient, laughing with us and smiles to brighten our day! The fire was burning, the room made you feel like you were in a Hallmark movie. Breakfast was fabulous and the cinnamon rolls are being (took 4 home) :) Will be back!

A beautiful establishment made from logs and a lot of hard work. The history and family atmosphere is genuine. The food was hot and very fast. The service provided was excellent and very pleasant. The gift shop was so cute and had something for everyone.

We like their big cinnamon bun bigger than your hand! Beautiful log cabin style restaurant. Great place to stop and stretch your legs walking around the property. Explore the creek behind the restaurant and check out their museum on the property. A Loggers Memorial building honoring Oregon loggers who worked the land.

What an amazing building! I never even knew this was out here despite living in the Northwest for 25 years. I do love it when I find historical places like this even if it is by accident. We had to deal with some paperwork and every department we went to was VERY nice and helpful. I only wish I would have brought along my good camera instead of just my phone.

Court admin discussing sensitive case details in the office within earshot, and then calling law enforcement on ME for calling it out. I asked for how many child abuse cases have been successfully prosecuted months ago with no response from the prosecutor’s office. I was told I had to pay fees despite having a fee waiver in place. I’m loosing my home because of this family court. I was divorced in 2020. It’s 2024. This is religious and financial abuse because Nancy McAllister goes to Ocean Beach Christian Fellowship with my parents Doug and Suzanne Knutzen and we’ve been in court over 20 times in the last 6 years. That’s expensive. I bet they’re making a lot of money from this case and that’s why they’re acting this way. The court clerk said they wouldn’t be accepting my appeal. Huh. Weird. Then judge McAllister tried to deny my appeal. It’s almost like they’re scared of the truth, weird. I was thrown in jail for objecting to too many lies on the witness stand. Despite me clearly stating my PTSD disability and asking for legal representation. I also asked if it was my right to object and the judge said yes previously. So which is it? If the judge is more worried about me objecting to lies than witnesses lying, I’ve got a problem with that as a tax paying American. I have witnessed CPS (DCYF) not being listened to. All in all, this is a very sorry state of affairs. The court makes decisions with no care to the implications of those decisions in the lives of the people impacted. I am completely appalled and repulsed by all the many hours I have witnessed injustice at Pacific County Courthouse.

We stopped by this interesting place not knowing what it was. It was a Sunday so the grounds were quiet. It is a lovely place for a short walk and some interesting history. This place is a functioning office so probably not as nice during the work week.

It’s a pretty spectacular building for any city or town. The paintings inside were done by an inmate from the prison just behind and the courthouse was once held hostage. Why such s beautiful building in a Tibet twin? Read the history which is steady out of an old western novel. Or vice versa. Check out the doors to the various municipal offices and climb the stairs to look down after looking up into the dome. The court house too sports a stained glass window. Must be a nice place to work for those on one side of the bench! Take a walk across the pond and read the placards outside as well as the explanations for the pics in the walls. There are informational material as you enter.

The state police abuse RCW 46.61.400 as an all encompassing ticket machine. Despite the trooper showing up an hour late to the scene of a single car accident, I received a ticket for going 50 in a 55 in a sudden hail storm and "hitting" a conveyance known as ditch. After fighting the ticket in Pacific South District Court, the district ruled the ticket valid due to the statement, "I lost control of the vehicle when the truck lost traction due to the sudden storm." If you get in an accident here, you will get a ticket.

The Astoria Column, constructed in 1926, stands at 126 feet tall and showcases murals depicting Oregon's history. Visitors can climb the 164 spiral steps to reach the observation deck, which offers a stunning 360-degree view of Astoria, the Pacific Ocean, the Columbia River mouth, Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier, and the lush forests of Oregon and Washington.
Very nice! I went about a month ago and the views were very nice. The stairs really freaked me out, they seemed a bit rickety, but the view at the top was worth it. You can see the whole city ! The column was very pretty in itself, wonderful graphics on the exterior that reminded me a bit of the Coit Tower in San Francisco.
James C — Google review
Beautiful 360 degree view of the area and Port Townsend from this vantage point. You can climb the "Column" for even a more unobstructed view, its 164 steps to the top, fairly narrow, but rest landings every 32 steps up the column. Nice diversion from downtown. There's a $5 admission charge, but I think its well worth it. There's a gift shop for souvenirs and refreshments. Go and enjoy.
Laine A — Google review
I had a fantastic time visiting the Astoria Column! For just five bucks, you get plenty of parking and a chance to climb the 164 steps to the top. The view up there is absolutely stunning—you get this amazing panorama of lush green forests, the water, and the charming little town of Astoria below. The weather was perfect when I went, which made it even better. There’s also a cute little souvenir shop nearby where I picked up a hat as keepsakes. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I’d definitely recommend it!”

Like many I find Astoria to be a magical place. Home of the Goonies, Kindergarten Cop, and many other classics from the 80-90s. This city is also where the Colombia River meets the Pacific Ocean. The Astoria Column is yet but another Gem in the treasure of experiences to be discovered in this once pirate hub. In a nutshell, for a small fee ($5 I think) you can park at the column, enjoy a beautiful view, walk up the column and witness an even more breathtaking view. And. Yes. Be. Prepared. And. Bring. A. Toy. Paratrooper. Or. Airplane. In fact bring 2. Once at the top of the column you can launch them in to the air, watch, and be transformed back into a child, and bubble with delight. If you have the capacity (and you will as you are now a child once again), run back down to retrieve your flying toy (or find a new one on the ground), run back up, and launch it off the column again! This is a simple and magical experience for all ages. Consider having a picnic there as well. Enjoy! Hot Tips! *Yes there are bathrooms and clean ones at that. *There is a gift shop to buy airplanes. Paratroopers must be bought elsewhere though. (Gift shops in Seaside sell them). *Another must visit is the Wreck of the Peter Iredale. *Another must visit is the museum/Fratelli’s jail. Film your own movie clips and get behind the scenes of Goonies. *Another must visit is the Astoria bowling alley and another key Goonies location. *Yet another must visit is Fort George Brewing. They have at least 2 different kitchens. The top restaurant makes fantastic pizza (open different hours), family friendly, and spacious.

Beautiful view. They charge $5 per vehicle which is reasonable. The column itself is work of art. I did not climb up the steps to go to the top. The gift shop had a variety of items for sale. Very panoramic views on the sunny day I visited. Definitely worth doing once.
Trey K — Google review
The Astoria Column is a pretty remarkable spot! Perched high above Astoria, Oregon, it gives sweeping views of the Columbia River, Youngs Bay, the Coast Range, and even out to the Pacific on clear days. The location is famously windy (many visitors bring or buy the small wooden gliders sold on site just to launch them from the top), which adds to the fun. The 125-foot column itself is decorated with a spiral mural illustrating major events in Pacific Northwest history, from Native cultures to the arrival of explorers and settlers. Climbing the spiral staircase to the top is a bit of a workout, but the payoff is the 360° panoramic vista—definitely one of the best in Oregon. It’s a spot that blends history, art, and natural beauty. Perfect for photos, picnics, or just watching the clouds roll across the river.
Sid — Google review
The view exceeded my expectations for sure. The payoff for climbing the 164 step spiral staircase is a fantastic panoramic view in every direction. This was on a clear summer day with visibility to the horizon. Highly recommend if you're in the area and can handle the narrow stairs. The column is bigger than you think and the detailed mural on the sides is impressive.
Christopher S — Google review
I hadn’t planned to visit the Astoria Column, but it’s clearly a local favorite — and for good reason. The $5 parking fee is a minor downside, but the panoramic view from the top more than makes up for it: you can spot four bridges spanning the river and surrounding landscape. I loved lounging on the sun-warmed slope below the tower; the gentle breeze was so relaxing I almost fell asleep. A peaceful, picture-perfect stop — well worth it.

Columbia River Maritime Museum

Museum

The Columbia River Maritime Museum, located in Astoria's picturesque downtown, is a harborfront building housing a 30,000-object collection that covers fishing, shipping, and military history. The museum received a facelift in 2002 to expand its square footage and provide visitors with views of the river through glass and iron structures. It offers hands-on exhibits on topics such as navigating perilous weather conditions at sea and historic artifacts related to military history.
In June 2025, we crossed the extensive Lewis & Clark Bridge across the Columbia River and arrived in Astoria, Oregon. The Columbia River is beautiful and many miles wide at this point. We continued to drive on the Astoria Main Street, and we stopped to look at the Columbia River Maritime Museum. It was about 8 PM or so, and the Maritime Museum was closed. However, the Maritime Museum outdoor scenery and decorations were amazing and captured our attention. I would love to patronize this Maritime Museum someday in the future, and return to Astoria, Oregon to see more of the scenery and the mighty Columbia River. This Maritime Museum had great outdoor decorations and an amazing view of the Lewis & Clark Bridge.

Museum fees $18 adults $15 seniors. Estimated tour time 1-1.5 hrs. Includes pass to visit the "Colombia" and old Coast Guard cutter. American Cruise lines sternwheeler was in Port. Active vessel cruises to/from Richland. Approx 7 day trip on Columbia River.

Nice! Exhibits are spaced nicely with a good focus on Astoria. Although I look forward to the expansion, I was very disappointed in the payment system. The ancient slide wouldn't work for my card. A tap to pay system needs to be installed. The box office personnel were very friendly and helpful! Very much appreciated the welcoming attitude. Lovely variety in the gift shop. I learned a lot about the maritime history of this part of the coast!
Linda ( — Google review
September 2025 - Visited the museum and found it mostly interesting, but it seemed to be more of a 'dead ship' museum than a Maritime Museum, we liked the Garibaldi Maritime Museum as it gave more info and had better maritime displays. This museum seemed to be built around the various shipwrecks of the past decades and how each occured. It was somewhat heavy in Coast Guard operations as well.

Excellent Exhibits! The Lightship was cool to walk through. Ticket is included in admission or $5 on own. The movies are timed, select times at admission for ticket(s). The two 3D movies, additionsl $5, each. Poor 3D, but good films on arctic and aircraft carriers. You can reenter museum and take as long as you want. Plenty for kids to interact in pilot house exhibits and activity room. Give time to go through, watch movied, tour ship and experience exhibits. I was there 3-4 hours and did it all.
Rochelle D — Google review
This place was amazing! There was so much to see and learn about. Give yourself a couple hours to be able to see it all. We also walked through the Lightship Columbia and toured the engine room. Such a great experience that even the kids loved.
Amber S — Google review
Well presented history of the Coast Guard and Fishermen experience where the Colum loved thebia meets the Pacific. Loved the life sized exhibits and the detailed exhibit notes and commentary.
Rich C — Google review
This museum is meaningful and well-curated overall, but the Japan exhibit is deeply disturbing. It forgets what World War II truly was — and even forgets the Americans who sacrificed their lives to stop fascism. The display glorifies the aggressor while ignoring the millions who suffered under its brutality. Those “rising sun” flags were not messages of love from families; they were symbols of militarism, filled with words of conquest and loyalty to war. The swords shown were not art pieces — they were weapons once used to slaughter civilians across the world. It’s shocking that an American museum — from a nation that once bled to stop fascism — now romanticizes it.

Flavel House Museum

Museum
Historical landmark
The Flavel House Museum is a stunning Queen Anne-style Victorian mansion built in 1885 for Captain George Flavel and his family. The museum showcases period furniture and features a formal garden, offering visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the era. The house is an architectural masterpiece, reflecting the grandeur of turn-of-the-20th-century Astoria. It stands as a testament to the city's history, which includes being home to the first American settlement west of the Rocky Mountains.
I’ve visited a lot of historic house museums over the years but the Flavel House takes the cake for the size of the rooms relative to the era it represents. At over 11,000 square feet, the house commands the full city block on which it’s set. The rooms are very well decorated to represent the period. Some of the furnishings are Flavel family pieces. Excellently curated with abundant labels, there’s a lot to learn here, particularly if you’ve never visited a Victorian era home before. Given the Flavel’s particular prominence in history of Astoria and the Pacific Northwest in general, this is a must see for any history buff.
Andrew H — Google review
An absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The self-guided tour was engaging and easy to follow, and the staff and volunteers were genuinely kind and welcoming. The Flavel House is beautifully preserved, with each room carefully arranged to reflect life in the late 1800s. The accompanying photos showing the original uses of each space make the history come alive in such a unique way. A must-visit for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, or anyone who appreciates Victorian-era charm.
Jeff C — Google review
The self guided tour at the Flavel House in Astoria, Oregon, was like walking through a time warp that allows the visitor to not only see all of the beautiful masterpieces throughout but also submerge all of your other senses into the past. We were allowed to check out everything from the grounds to the bathrooms on our own, and I think that was the most special part of the tour.
Emily H — Google review
Absolutely mind boggling to think nobody wanted this place in the 1940's and the Flavel family had trouble giving it away. The city almost tore it down to put in a parking lot! Thankfully the Clatsop County Historical Society stepped up, and has done a magnificent job of restoring this house to original condition. If you're traveling to Astoria it's well worth the visit.
John D — Google review

Richard M — Google review
Visited on an Oregon trip a month ago, one of the best Victorian house museums that I have ever been to!!
James C — Google review
September 2025 - Visited the house and saw how the 'royalty' once lived in Astoria (No not a king, but a wealthy person). Been to palaces in Spain, Italy, Turkiye, and Portugal and this was somewhat of a letdown in comparison to each. The entry is on the street in a smaller building, and the parking is nearly non-existent. Entry fee is affordable to most. There is a path from the small building to the 'mansion' and the entry is on the far street side. Not easily accessed by the physically challenged. Plan on about 30 minutes, and climbing stairs at the entry and inside to get to the second floor.
Bill M — Google review
Very unique and beautiful piece of history being preserved for everyone to admire and enjoy. The whole experience was delightful, from the entrance at the carriage house and educational pre-entry video, to the walk through, and talk with the curator. I loved every minute of it. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We got some delightful insite on the habits of the family who lived there and the spaces not accessible to the public (mainly the attic and basement). I definitely recommend a walk through, the architecture, ornate decor, and phenomenal craftsmanship, were really a treat to see.

The Astoria-Megler Bridge, the longest continuous truss bridge in North America, is a stunning landmark that offers breathtaking views of the Columbia River and connects Oregon and Washington. The bridge provides access to an array of destinations and activities, including Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, North Head Lighthouse, and Fort Stevens State Park. Visitors can enjoy scenic hiking/biking trails, historic ship wreckage, and sandy beaches in the area.
Driving across the bridge is quite an experience, but be ready for some serious traffic! Also, you'll probably notice an unusual number of dead birds scattered along the road on the bridge. Just something to keep in mind! Nevertheless it offers great views.
Justin B — Google review
The Astoria–Megler Bridge is a stunning landmark and a must-see when visiting the Oregon Coast. Stretching over four miles across the Columbia River, it’s the longest continuous truss bridge in North America and an impressive sight in itself. The green steel structure contrasts beautifully with the blue waters below, making it a fantastic spot for photos. From the Astoria waterfront, you can watch massive cargo ships and fishing vessels navigate the river, with the bridge creating a dramatic backdrop. The nearby Columbia River Maritime Museum adds to the experience, giving context to the river’s rich history. Whether you’re driving across, photographing it from the shore, or exploring the riverfront, the bridge offers iconic views and a real sense of scale.
Sid — Google review
Stretching an impressive 4.1 miles across the mouth of the Columbia River, the Astoria–Megler Bridge is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. It connects the charming town of Astoria, Oregon, to the rugged shoreline of Megler, Washington, completing a vital link in U.S. Route 101. But this isn’t just a bridge, it’s a bold architectural statement standing guard over one of the most unpredictable waterways in the Pacific Northwest. Each fall, the waters beneath the bridge come alive with one of nature’s great spectacles: the salmon runs. Hundreds of thousands of Chinook (King Salmon) and Coho surge upstream, navigating the powerful currents to reach their spawning grounds. Anglers line the banks and boats dot the channel, all hoping to intercept these muscular fish as they pass beneath the steel latticework above. The Columbia River beneath the bridge is no gentle stream. It’s a deep, fast-moving artery that has claimed countless vessels over the centuries. The river’s mouth, just 14 miles downstream, is infamous for its shifting sandbars, powerful tides, and sudden squalls. Mariners call it the “Graveyard of the Pacific,” a name earned by the hundreds of sunken ships that litter its floor. Navigating this stretch requires precision, experience, and respect for the river’s many moods. Among the modern giants that brave this treacherous passage is the Plumeria Leader, a Japanese-flagged cargo ship built in 2022 and operated by NYK Line. This roll-on/roll-off vehicle carrier spans over 200 meters and ferries thousands of cars and heavy machinery between North America and Japan. Watching it glide beneath the bridge’s steel canopy is like witnessing a ballet of brute force and finesse—its towering hull nearly brushing the trusses above, a visual reminder of the delicate choreography required to move global trade through this wild corridor. Adding a touch of wild charm, thousands of double-crested cormorants have made the bridge their seasonal home, nesting in its steel beams and complicating inspections with guano and obscured lights. Once a year, the bridge opens to foot traffic for the Great Columbia Crossing, a six-mile run or walk that lets participants experience the thrill of crossing this engineering marvel on foot. If you ever find yourself in Astoria, take a moment to gaze at its steel trusses and imagine the stories flowing beneath, from salmon and ships to storms and seabirds. The bridge doesn’t just span a river; it spans centuries of drama, resilience, and awe. It’s not just a crossing, it’s a living chapter in the Pacific Northwest’s epic tale.
Kevin — Google review
An impressive drive with scenic views! Crossing the Astoria-Megler Bridge was a highlight of the trip. The bridge stretches over 6 km (4 miles) and offers stunning views of the Columbia River and surrounding coastline. The structure itself is a unique mix of engineering and beauty, especially on a moody, overcast day like when we visited. It's a smooth, easy drive, and a great way to enter or leave Astoria. Definitely worth experiencing if you're road-tripping along the Pacific Northwest.
Gabriel D — Google review
What a beautiful and amazing drive over the Columbia river! It’s not as scary as Mackinac but we didn’t think it was for the faint hearted either. Luckily, one of us isn’t faint hearted. The history of this bridge is of course fascinating. If you’re in this area you can’t not drive over it
David S — Google review
The Astoria–Megler Bridge is absolutely breathtaking. Stretching over four miles across the Columbia River, it’s both an engineering marvel and a scenic experience. Driving across gives you sweeping views of the river, the town of Astoria, and the Washington shoreline. The steep climb on the Oregon side makes the drive exciting, and the descent feels like you’re gliding over the water.
Amen K — Google review
Would you dare to drive across a bridge in 100 mph winds? Welcome to the Astoria–Megler Bridge, the longest continuous truss bridge in North America — stretching 4.1 miles over the mouth of the mighty Columbia River, where wind gusts have been strong enough to shake cars and terrify even seasoned drivers. Built in 1966, people once mocked it as “The Bridge to Nowhere”. Today, it’s a stunning gateway between Oregon and Washington — and a symbol of Pacific Northwest grit. 🎬 It’s been featured in movies like “Short Circuit” and “Kindergarten Cop” — because yes, this bridge has main-character energy. For years, the Great Columbia Crossing let people walk the entire span — a once-a-year chance to experience the bridge on foot (no cars, just you and the view!). And no tolls. Not then. Not now. Just open road, wild weather, and a view that’ll stick with you. ➡️ Follow us for more epic places and strange stories across the Northwest. 💙 Thanks for liking this post!

Fort Clatsop Visitor Center

Visitor center
Nature & Parks
The Fort Clatsop Visitor Center, located in the Historic Area, offers day-use parking permits and provides information about free entry for veterans and up to three guests. The museum displays numerous artifacts related to the Lewis and Clark expedition, while the well-kept fort offers insights into its history. Visitors can explore the surrounding area with hiking trails and enjoy nature. Although the fort has been rebuilt multiple times due to fires, it still offers a quick walk-through experience.
This was my husband’s favorite stop after our weekend in the area. Really enjoyed the video with history of the fort that played in the visitor center. Beautiful area to explore. Fascinating imagining it as a working fort, especially after watching the historical video.

A fun experience to be in the same area that Lewis and Clark had been. A lot of cool history is here and the pathways to the old fort and surrounding areas are so nice with the trees providing shade on a hot day. A neat place and I would definitely recommend to come check out some history.

Nice little side trip. Very welcoming and lots of good information. If you like walking, there's some easy trails that take you to the fort and down to the river. There are also longer trails for folks that want to go further. One thing we noticed is that there is a LOT of RV parking.

Nice little museum to learn about Lewis and Clark. The documentaries were interesting, but noisy children and other audience members were distracting (please turn off phone volume and don't bring your kids if they will misbehave in the small theater :)). The trails were also very pretty.

If I could give 10 stars I would…and it still might not be enough. My wife and I had a blast!! Our first time zip-lining and this will definitely be a core memory for us. The course was amazing, putting you into the wilderness and experiencing different lengths, speeds, and abilities! We got a chance to speak with the owner and they have plans for more fun options as well! They are currently working on a rock climbing wall for adults and one for children. He even mentioned potentially getting a mechanical bull! Finally our instructors were amazing!! Carter and Ryan made the entire experience all the better. They were fun, personable, playful, and hilarious. They did a great job walking everyone through how to wear the gear, demonstrating what to do and not do, making sure we were safe and secure the entire trip. More than that, they kept it fun with their wit and humor. Truly one of the highlights of the entire experience! If you have the option to visit we would highly recommend it. You will have fun and an amazing experience to look back on. We will definitely be returning next time we are in the area!

Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! This zip lining adventure was one of the highlights of our trip and something our whole family will remember forever. Safety was clearly their top priority, from the detailed briefing at the beginning to the constant attentiveness of the guides, we felt completely secure every step of the way. The staff was knowledgeable, professional, and incredibly friendly, making sure everyone felt comfortable and confident before taking off. And the views? Absolutely unreal. Soaring through the treetops with panoramic vistas stretching in every direction, it felt like flying. Each line had its own unique perspective, and the scenery was nothing short of breathtaking. What really stood out was how family-friendly the whole experience was. Whether you're a thrill-seeker or a bit more cautious, the team was great at encouraging everyone at their own pace. It was the perfect blend of adventure, fun, and nature. We can’t recommend this place highly enough. Whether you're traveling solo, as a couple, or with kids, this is a must-do. We’ll definitely be back!

Okay, this place is ACTUALLY amazing!! I've been ziplining in Big Bear, but that's nothing compared to the experience we had at High Life Adventures! We went on the 8-Line Tour, and paid extra to go on the Zwing at the end, and it was totally worth it!! First of all, our guides Logan and Carter, had a great sense of humor and were very informative on how to have the best time on the ziplines. In addition, and I can't state this enough, the VIEWS!! Wow, they were spectacular!! Zipping through all the beautiful trees and the huge lake nearby was so amazing! Lastly, the Zwing was something I'll never forget! It felt scary yet amazing to jump off of that ledge and zip back and forth over the lake and all the way to the other side. We just had the best time here, and I would recommend anyone to zipline here!! It was so fun and so worth it!! (also, getting wet during one of the ziplines and having a little surprise at the end was super fun!!)

This is such a fun place! We brought our kids here 10 years ago when we used to vacation up here from AZ, but now we live in Warrenton and I brought my 79 year old mother-in-law here for an adventure! It was every bit as fun as I remember! You start off with a quick safety and instruction period, and then get harnessed up. Each group has two guides, and ours were awesome! We had Ethan and ?? (I'm so embarrassed I can't remember her name!) and they were so fun and entertaining! There were 9 total people in our adventure group , which made it fun. There are 8 different zip lines, with the first 4 kind of designed to break you in, and the last 4 being longer and from higher ground. Be prepared to walk short distances with steep inclines. Some of them will have you breathing a little hard by the time you get to the next zip! At least half of them went over water at some point. One if them towards the end will allow you to get absolutely soaked, or you can choose to stay 100% dry. One kid in our group decided he wanted the full dunk, and Ethan did not disappoint! It was rather entertaining to the rest of us! The last zip releases from 80' up and allows you to add a 'zwing' free fall where tie like a 20' strap to your zip line, which allows you to free fall for a second and then swing wildly back and forth as you zip over a lake. My mother-in-law was a little hesitant to go on this adventure with me, but absolutely loved every aspect of it! She loved it so much she tipped our two guides $100! Although the price might seem steep, it's worth every penny! You won't regret it!

Great place, great people, great experience!!! D and Jake were our guides and they made the experience safe, humorous, and entertaining. I’d never gone ziplining before. It is terrifying and insanely fun! Also, did the zwing. Worth the little bit extra money! What a feeling flying through the air, safely! Jaycey was the handler on this line, she was also so friendly, thorough in her safety, and made it fun. Thank you High Life Adventures!

My first time ziplining and it was absolutely epic! The instructors were friendly, outgoing, and made the whole experience fun. I loved doing all 8 ziplines. I was originally scheduled for a Friday, but my two friends and I got delayed driving from Washington and underestimated the traffic near JBLM. The staff were so understanding, they gave us a full refund and let us come back as walk-ins on another day if spots were available. We went on Monday, and it turned out amazing! 👏 The only disappointment was the $30 photo package. The pictures were just regular shots taken before ziplining, photos we could have easily taken ourselves. Unfortunately, no exciting shots of us flying through the trees and over the ponds. Overall, I highly recommend this zipline experience, it’s fun, well-run, and worth it.

Nehalem offers a beautiful outdoor setting for wine tasting. The building has a charming, old-world feel, and we preferred sitting outside. They provide five different wine tastings, making for a delightful experience. The server was also very nice.

We are on vacation and decided to stop at some wineries. We are glad that stopped in here. This place is quaint and adorable!!! The engery is peaceful and relaxing! We were welcomed in by Arlo. Arlo is very welcoming, friendly and helpful! I mentioned to him that I drive for a wine tour company on NC and we talked about wines. Arlo, thanks for a great time. We decided to do a tasting. My overall favorite was Honeymead! Sweet and refreshing!!! Great wine for a summer day! The husband got the Pinot Noir. We did buy 2 bottles to drink while on vacation. We also found out that they ship to NC because we didn't have a suitcase to bring our wine back home. Definitely stop in and try their wines!!!

This winery is known for its sweet fruit wines. This year’s crop doesn’t disappoint! They offer $10 generous tasting pours of any 5 wines of their huge selection. Prices are very reasonable, and weather permitting you can sip you samples (or glasses) outside and take in the gorgeous view of the Neakahnie Mountains nearby. The best part is how friendly and helpful their staff is. This isn’t for the snooty wine crowd, this is for people who enjoy life and want to have fun and try what others make. Dogs are welcome on a leash. Bring some food and have your lunch with a bottle of Oregon blackberry wine!

We have enjoyed this wine for many years. We enjoy visiting their winery as well. The people are very pleasant and informative. This is our first time ordering and free shipping. If you love wine, try these they are great!!

My lady and I visited this place. The wine tasting "whatever you call him" was eager to get me lit. Strong pours.. convinced me to buy.. big discounts on crappy selection. I walked outa there with 2 cases of what I thought were my favorite. One was descent and the rest were fillers. Got home and found that it tasted no better than 2 buck chuck.... don't get drawn in here.. it's mediocre wine and waaaay overpriced.

When it is drizzly in Oregon, what to do? Winery tasting. We found Nehalem Bay Winery as we were exploring along the Oregon coast. 4 adults split 2 tastings. 2 shared a white/reds tasting. We shared a reds tasting. The deck views were fantastic as well as the hydrangea's were HUGE! The outside bathrooms told the story of the winery - interesting history!
Amy C — Google review
Loved this tasting experience! The wines are fruity and not my typical favorites, but the experience here was top notch and the wines were somewhat original so I liked it. The server was very friendly and made great conversation while sharing about the wines. He gave us some great local information about places to take our dog as well. His dog was adorable and made an excellent winery greeter! Every new person that came in she went to in a calm and sweet manner.... I liked her almost as much as the wine! The location is a little off the main 101 but worth the side trip. The parking was ample for the crowd there on a weekend. Overall we really enjoyed the visit and came home with bottles of the Pacific Plum and the Cranpere. Worth a visit for sure!

Definitely recommend! We stopped by on a beautiful Saturday in February and was able to enjoy the outside deck while we sampled their many wine offerings. Beautiful view! Our service was very friendly, kind, fast, and helpful! I am no wine expert, but it seemed they had quite the variety and I enjoyed each wine I tried. They run a great deal on the sampling if you purchase a bottle. We had a great time and left with two bottles to enjoy at home. We look forward to our next visit!

Established in 1937, the Seaside Aquarium is one of the oldest aquariums globally and a popular attraction for families. It features touch tanks, discovery centers, and adorable Seaside Harbor seals. The indoor exhibit ensures a dry visit. Situated near the Turnaround on the promenade, this West Coast aquarium showcases various marine life from the Pacific Ocean. Visitors can feed otters, observe diverse fish species, and interact with a touch tank.
Great experience! We got to feed the seals for $2 a plate of fish! We also got to look at some of the aquatic life that is home to the area. In total we got the family bundle which was $36 for a maximum of 6 people. Great price!! Don't expect a huge huge Aquarium, small but sweet
Miguel — Google review
My teen daughter LOVED feeding the seals. The giant pacific octopus was beautiful and active. The signage above all the tanks was helpful. The staff at the touch tanks were informative and patient. Would definitely recommend this place to visitors.
Kathy B — Google review
Was really fun to feed the seals 🦭. For two dollars for about six pieces of fish. Although the actual aquarium part I would describe as a moist cave. Was small dark wet and very smelly. Has a lot of interesting information about the aquarium life. All around I spent $20 to get in $12 in fish to feed seals and a fortune at the gift shop.
Leeann B — Google review
We just stumbled upon this aquarium while on our visit to the Oregon coast. If you’re looking for a conservation type aquarium and want to see happy animals, this is not it. It is dark and depressing inside. The tanks for the animals are small/crowded. The touch tank is small with a lot of starfish which was fun for probably 20 seconds. There is an open tank/enclosure in the center of the room that has small sharks that look dead. The seal enclosure has way too many seals and is very small. The aquarium hands you a pamphlet upon entry explaining the conditions for the seals. It says that the seals have a large dry space in the back but choose to be in the public viewing area. It also says that the seals are not released into the wild because studies show that after 1 year in captivity the seals would be less likely to survive in the wild. However, they explain that they have bred all their seals in captivity for years. Meaning these seals have never been outside, some being over 20 years old.
Cora M — Google review
During our recent visit to the Seaside Aquarium, I had mixed feelings about the experience. On one hand, I appreciated the opportunity for our family to learn about a variety of marine life. It’s always good to have a place where children can be exposed to ocean species up close and gain a better understanding of the coastal ecosystem. That being said, there were some noticeable drawbacks that were hard to ignore. The biggest issue I observed was the seal enclosure, which felt far too small for the number of seals housed there. It seemed crowded, and I couldn’t help but wonder about the quality of life for the animals in such a confined space. Additionally, the overall condition of the aquarium left something to be desired. One of the tanks appeared to be leaking, and there were several areas that looked worn down or in need of repair. The facility gave off the impression of being somewhat dated and in need of refurbishment. However, there were still some positives to our visit. I particularly enjoyed the story of Victor the Lobster, which added a fun and memorable element to the experience. Overall, while educational, the aquarium clearly could benefit from some upgrades.

Small but super fun aquarium right in the middle of downtown Seaside. Very reasonable price for admission and for the fish to feed the seals. The little octopus was very active when we were visiting, which was really awesome. Feeding the seals was also really cool. Definitely worth a visit.
Robbie D — Google review
It's a nice little aquarium. The displays tanks are clean and you can spot the fish and crabs easily. Be sure to purchase seal food to feed the seals. Watch out, they like to splash you. Tip: Look for the coupons in the aquarium brochures around town.
Mark B — Google review
The aquarium is a pleasant stop along the promenade. The seals were especially entertaining, and the octopus was fascinating to watch. It’s reasonably priced and makes for a good short visit. Be aware there are no restrooms on site, so plan ahead.

Leadbetter Point State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Park
Wide open spaces for lots of hiking and bird watching but oh my, bring bug spray! Google Maps is a little deceiving though. While part of the point is the State Park, there is also a large section that is part of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge. Between the two, there are 2 small parking lots, a couple pit toilets and a State Parks Discover Pass is required for parking in both lots. There is a map of all of the trails available at the parking lots as well as signs throughout the trail system that give directions. The signs on the trail we took were old but at least they gave directions for each trail. Someone took time to mark the trails, which was great. The short walk we took we saw lots of great blue herons, sandpipers and a few cormorants. While the State Parks website states that dogs are welcome, when you get to the Wildlife Refuge, it says that dogs are not allowed. We don't have a dog so it's not something we had to worry about but thought I would mention it. It's a beautiful place to visit. We did see deer while driving through the park and refuge, actually we saw them all over the Long Beach Peninsula so be careful driving.
PNW N — Google review
I think it is weird when nature gets less than 5 stars. We went on a rain Saturday and had the trail to ourselves. We did the dune forest trail with our dog and it was lovely. Plenty of weird mushrooms to look at and I’m sure there’s some edible ones if you know what to look for. I could see this being a mosquito heavy zone in warmer months.
Anisia D — Google review
We visited in the August. It wasn’t as busy as anticipated, possibly because it is out of the way from Long Beach. We have dogs which limited the trails we were able to use. There’s a short easy trail to the beach from the parking lot. There are a few walking paths through the grasslands lining the waterfront. The road was a bit bumpy but it was worth the drive. The parking lot was paved and included trail heads and a restroom.
Darcy K — Google review
Pulled into parking lot, we were immediately attacked by unrelenting hungry mosquitoes. I have NEVER seen mosquitoes like this in the rain! Drive was not worth the hassle... Except for all the cute wild rabbits, seeing them was worth the drive.
Laura W — Google review
This was our second visit. This time with a dog. Dog owners: Please don’t let the way finding signage on Dunes Forest Loop dissuade you from continuing. The two trails in the State Park ARE dog-friendly. The rest, part of the wildlife refuge, are not. The part of Dunes Forest by the bay was lovely and scenic. After continuing deeper into the forest, though, we were all swarmed with mosquitoes. We weren’t prepared. Highly suggest that you do if you plan to complete the trail bite-free.
Liz C — Google review
I wish I had read about the mosquitoes before I went. Every review on here is not lying about the mosquitoes. Ravenous and blood thirsty, biggest mosquitoes I've ever seen. I didn't think they were mosquitoes at first until they started biting me. Of course, I was wearing a sundress and a knitted sweater with "holes" in it. They literally swarmed me, and I had to run back to my car. Unfortunately, I had left my sunroof open and they filled my car! I had to take no less than three loops around the parking lot with my windows down to get them all out. I didn't even see the park, I zoomed out out of there as quick as I could. I gave 3 stars because I'm sure it's pretty, I just wish I had brought bug spray so I could've stayed a little longer. I don't know what kind of birds eat mosquitoes, but they need more of them at this park.
Kristin R — Google review
Remote, but worth it if you want to be outside for the day. The easy 1.2 mi hike through the sparse dune forest to the bay is different than most of the terrain in the area, and there are always birds to watch along the bay. Parking lot to tbe beach can be denser and sometimes wet in the rainier season. The 3 mi denser dune forest loop is pretty flat and really interesting - lota of slugs and a few harmless snakes so watch you step! I love how varied and quiet and full of wildlife the place is, I've been enjoying year-round.
Megan H — Google review
Deep pot holes all the way up the road to the main parking. Trails marker shows no dogs but then the main parking said it's OK on 2 trails. Info inconsistent. Vault toilet was cleanish, surprised that there was no smell. Well ventilated. We went to see if we could go to the lighthouse. Which apparently is accessible thru the trails but none that dogs are allowed on. Afterwards we were told that it's on private property and is actually a water tower. So many bugs. So many better hikes available in the area. I wouldn't go here again.

Crabbed off the dock renting crab pots. The staff was super helpful and excited for us. Had our six year-old and four-year-old with us, great places to sit while we waited to pull in our pots. The kids loved, seeing all the crabs, threw back a lot, but got two keepers after two hours. They were life fest for the kids for free, great food. They cooked and showed us how to clean our crabs. I would highly recommend this with kids who are willing to try seafood. If anyone in the group is not a fantasy food, probably not a great place. There are lots of places to sit and look at the beautiful view.

Wow, this is our 1st time to visit this place - we're diehard crab lovers. A coworker of my hubby highly recommended the place. We place our order for 2 crabs to eat. A wonderful day took our order & ready in 20 minutes and we devour them within the same time. Looking forward to coming back & trying other seafood.

This place has such a fun vibe. Crabbing off the dock is a blast! Recommend getting here early if you want any keepers. We had all females so we lucked out on catching our lunch. But, they have crab to purchase by the pound and will steam it up within 20 minutes. All staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this spot!

Great spot. We visited on a very busy Saturday, and the staff did a great job of helping out with camping and RV spots. We went out in a buddy’s boat for a few hours and caught 8 keepers! Came back and hung out and cooked up a seafood boil. We were lucky to hear the scenic railroad train heading up to Wheeler, and headed over to the tracks to watch it steam by. Fun times!

I’ve been coming here with friends and family for a long time and it is an obligatory stop on the coast for me. We typically rent a boat and crab each year, but I also like to go here and simply buy crab and clams and sit out on their picnic benches or in the covered area, depending upon the weather, and enjoy the seafood without working for it! Order Dungeness crab (duh) and clams. I’m not a fan of their oysters. if you are on the Northern Oregon coast, this should definitely be on your list.
Brenda C — Google review
This places has a great atmosphere! Your right on the water with docks to throw crab traps off of, boats to rent, a cleaning station, and someone there to cook your catch. They also have a "menu" you can order and they'll cook it up for you. Crab, oysters, and butter clams. There were a few younger staff members that didn't know very much information about what side of the post we were supposed to be on when parking our trailer or how to explain they still charge you $17 to throw a trap whether it's your own or theirs your using. I even asked if they sold keys chains and he look at me like I was speaking a different language, paused, then responded with "if we do, they are around here somewhere." Other then that, good vibes and lots of fun!
Jennifer J — Google review
There’s nothing like eating Dungeness crab on the Oregon coast! Kelly’s Marina offers a truly unique experience — you can catch your own crab from a boat or simply enjoy fresh seafood right off the dock. We chose to eat at the dock, and it was our first time visiting. The crab was incredibly fresh and delicious — definitely a splurge, but worth it for the quality and experience. The staff were super friendly and helpful, making the whole visit even more enjoyable. This was such a memorable way to enjoy the coast, and we’ll definitely be coming back!

Nehalem Bay State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
890-acre oceanfront park with hiking, biking & equestrian trails, campsites, yurts & an airstrip.
I'm camping with a popup trailer at the comfortable, and beautiful Nahalem State Park Campground. Spacious campsites with loads of green level space for tents or for hanging out. Dogs allowed on leash and off-leash at the beach. Thoughtfully set up with places to deposit dog bags and get additional ones as you're walking through. There's a brand new and especially nice bathroom building near my site (D43). Some sites are shaded (which also protects you from the wind on windy days). Both bathroom and shower buildings were clean and well kept. It feels really nice here, and while you have to climb over what amounts to a large sand dune to get to the beach - what a lovely beach it is. This park is far enough from 101 to be very quiet. Prices are much more reasonable than private RV parks. I enjoyed the new looking water and electric hookups (50A, 20A, 110V). There are warm lights that come on by the hookups at dark and add a bit of charm.
Isa D — Google review
Beautiful campground. The walk to the beach is very close and easy. Clean bathrooms. The playground was interesting. It is for older kids or adults not really a playground more like an exercise area. We loved the campground overall and we will go back if we can. Wished we had more time to explore the area
Jodie D — Google review
By far one of the nicest state park campgrounds we have ever visited! Each site is nestled in the trees to offer privacy within nature. Beach access, clean amenities, opportunities to purchase firewood/ice, horse camps, and the choice of hookup, camping, or yurt rentals makes Nehalem Bay State Park an absolute stop!
Karen V — Google review
The campground was very nice overall. Easy to find amenities, access to the beach was convenient, clean, organized campsites. Partially covered picnic table on our deck made making meals better. Our only issue (and the one reason we left a day early) was the mattress pads on the bed and fold down couch. They were too hard, my hips would start to ache (I’m a side sleeper). Not everyone will have the same issue, but when it comes to sleep and camping that’s a deal breaker for us.
John M — Google review
Great beach access, spacious campsites and wildlife to remind you of why you packed up and made Nahalem Bay your destination! New shower building near the entrance at "D" loop as part of the park renovation project is a plus. New power pole and water to each site too. Don't delay, get away from the city and relax around a campfire and plan to take in a sunset. It can be windy when the sun's out, the morning marine layer is a reminder you're right next to the ocean. Blessings to you. Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse

We're staying at the horse camp and it's great they have flesh toilets now! The new metal stalls are great and the Bay trail, Dunes riding and Beach riding our wonderful! Miles and miles and miles of exploring!!

Stayed here for two nights and had a great time! Our campsite was clean and spacious and had an outlet post and water spout on the site. The campsite also had very clean flushable toilets and showers and a sink to do dishes in. The immediate access to the beach was also amazing! Definitely more geared towards RV camping but we still enjoyed ourselves with our tent camping.
Leora W — Google review
The campground is crowded and busy. We were there on a Thursday and they were all booked up. But each campsite has a little privacy behind it. So if you point your tent door that way you won’t be looking at anybody when you get up in the morning. Beach access is only at one part of the campgrounds, but the beach is gorgeous. we timed our visit specifically for the Milky Way and got very lucky with a cloudless night and very little wind. my only complaint is the ungodly amount of gnats in the morning.

While the museum is small, the information is fantastic and it is free (donations are accepted; the tour is self guided). I had no idea about the total process involved in growing and harvesting cranberries. You can also walk out into the field and see the cranberry bogs. They also have a gift shop with cranberry themed gifts of everything you could possibly imagine… Scones, hand, lotion…You name it, they got it.

We learned a little about cranberries at the Museum today. Don't believe the commercial with them standing waist deep in water harvesting Cranberries. It is a small museum and a delightful gift shop. If in the area stop in and check it out.

Cranberry Museum was fun to explore. It's pretty small, but the tools and processes explained turned out to be more complex than I imagined in my head. You can get cranberries here as well. They had a delicious cranberry ice cream. The gift shop had a lot of cranberry themed items.

We enjoyed visiting the cranberry museum and learning about the history of cranberry farming. There was an interesting scavenger hunt for kids inside the museum as well as a self-guided walking tour outside. The kids enjoyed both. There is fresh, homemade cranberry ice cream to buy among many other fun cranberry items at the store. The proceeds from the store go to support WSU research at the site near the museum.

When you finish the museum part, you end up in the gift shop. If you ever wanted a cranberry treat, this place has it! They even make their own fresh cranberry ice cream! Then there is a self led tour of the cranberry bogs outside. Great place! (And it's free)

Haystack Rock is a stunning 235-foot monolith located on the Oregon Coast, formed by ancient lava flows. It is part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge and Marine Garden, providing a habitat for diverse marine and wildlife such as puffins, seabirds, sea stars, crabs, and more. During low tide, visitors can access the rock and explore its surrounding tidal pools. The area offers various oceanfront accommodations with picturesque views of Haystack Rock.
In August 2025, we visited Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Haystack Rock is spectacular, as it accessible to the public, no cost to visit, and close to the beach. Birds fly around it and onto it, and the Pacific Ocean waves crashing on the rocks add to the ambiance. The surrounding rocks have visible starfish and seashells on them, as it was likely low tide. The Cannon Beach sand is packed down and easy to walk on. We went early in the morning, so the morning sun was behind us, and that improved our photography. Haystack Rock is an amazing place to visit and experience first-hand.

Haystack Rock is absolutely breathtaking! Standing on the beach with this giant sea stack in front of you feels magical. At low tide, the tidepools are full of colorful starfish, anemones, and other sea life, which makes it a great spot for families and nature lovers. The sunsets here are unforgettable — watching the sky change colors behind the rock is a must-see experience. The beach itself is wide, clean, and perfect for a long walk. It’s one of those iconic Oregon Coast landmarks that you just can’t miss!

Haystack Rock is absolutely breathtaking! The towering rock formation rising out of the ocean is a true natural wonder, and the surrounding beach is stunning. Walking along the shore and watching the waves crash while seagulls and tidepool creatures thrive nearby is an unforgettable experience. The sunsets here are magical, casting incredible colors across the sky and water. A must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates the beauty and power of nature!

Beautiful place! The locals who live here are very lucky. We got to see at least 20 elk just chilling by the parking lot. Just watch out with the tides. We noticed a lot of people were trying to take pictures by the beach and were almost taken out the high tide waves. Also, there's quite a crowd in the evening for the sunset. Warning: my husband grabbed a "pebble" at the beach, but it wasn't a pebble, it was elk dookie.

Beautiful place. Difficult to find parking. You'll have to hike awhile along the road but when you get back to downtown, you can get a coffee and take a breath. We'll worth the steep stairs and trek up the hill to get down to the beach.

Nice beach and interesting rock formation. What makes it good is that it featured in the Goonies where the Pirate ship floated out to sea. Free parking but not a big car park. Specific places for Motorhomes in car park but no overnight stays. Very short walk to beach.

Great visit! Pro tip, we pulled into the neighborhood streets and asked to park there. Residents were so friendly they just said don't block a driveway. From there, any set of steps to the beach and you're there with a quick walk. Check the tide pools for starfish, crabs, and sea creatures. They're everywhere! Look for the birds on top of the rocks and on the sheer sides of the rocks as well. Also, we saw a Bald Eagle across the street in the tree lines. Definitely a great visit with iconic photos.

Hug Point State Recreation Site

State park
Nature & Parks
Hug Point State Recreation Site is a charming state park located on the Oregon coast. The park boasts forested picnic areas and a sandy cove beach, making it a picturesque destination for visitors. Parking is free and plentiful, although the public restrooms may be closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. The beach offers rocky cliffs, sandy shores, and even a cave for exploration. Additionally, there is a small waterfall along the ocean that can be seen during low tide.
Really beautiful and iconic spot on the Oregon Coast! It's not only one of the places I like to go for my own leisure time and some beach walking, but it's also one of the places I've frequented most for photographing intimate weddings and elopements on the coast. This is such a good location, because it's close enough to town that it makes it easy to access food, lodging, etc. It's beautiful any time of day and any season, but definitely best at low tide (so you can actually get around the point to where the waterfall is) and sunset is gorgeous here. I've photographed a lot of weddings and elopements here, in all sorts of weather and different seasons, and the spot is just always stunning. I highly recommend spring or early summer if you want the best chance of seeing the waterfall flowing (it's seasonal). I will say, the parking lot is large but fills FAST, so arriving early or targeting a weekday will help. If there's no parking spots available, please don't park on the road; it's super dangerous! There are other really beautiful beaches nearby that you can try, too. Love this place, and I'm sure I'll be coming back many more times over the years.

Went on a Wednesday, there was lots of parking. This park is not ADA friendly. Small trail down hill and then to wooden stairs that turn earthen. Be careful if your carrying small children or pets. Also KNOW THE TIDE!! you can get stuck during HIGH TIDE..That part aside.. One of the most Beautiful Beaches I've ever seen! neat little cave to go in, that safe. Little water falls on to the beach. My dog had a blast ( remember to pick up after your pooch). There's hiking trails above the beach,.. You should definitely visit..

Great Scenic stop along Hwy 101 just 4.8 mi South of Cannon Beach. Jetta had a great time during his photo shoot. Check Tide Tables before going as the incoming tide comes in rapidly.

Unforgettable! A huge parking lot with about 40 spaces. There are bathrooms. Not an easy path down to the beach. There are several stairs then you climb down rocks. The beach is long and beautiful. Watch the tide charts. Most of the caves and Hug Point is available at LOW tide only. Head to the right and go past the waterfall. The next rock boulder is where you can step in history and walk along the path of the covered wagons. There are several caves you can explore. Please only go at LOW tide. I found a complete sand dollar as we walked further down the beach. There were rocks to collect if you search for rocks.

On a rare, sunny October day, this beach feels like a hidden gem or maybe just a really good secret that only the seagulls know about. The shoreline is short, perfect for a peaceful stroll, or as I like to call it, a “mini-marathon” for those of us who prefer our exercise with a side of ocean breeze. Every step offers something to notice whether it’s the gentle sound of the waves, the scent of the ocean breeze, or the smooth texture of the sand that somehow finds its way into every crevice of your life. It’s a wonderful spot for beachcombing, with scattered seashells and the occasional fossil waiting to be discovered, or as I like to call them, nature’s way of saying, “Look what I made!” Though small, the beach’s charm lies in its simplicity and calm atmosphere, making it the perfect place to pause, reflect, and enjoy nature’s quieter side or just to practice your best “I’m contemplating the meaning of life” pose.

B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!!! We watched the sun go down on the beach here and it was absolutely breathtaking. When we first walked down to the steps and saw the view of the ocean and the beach in front of us, it almost looked like we were looking at something from a different planet. The tide was in to the point where only a bit of beach sand was left , before hitting the rocks(even so,it was totally enough beach to be safe to walk , sit or play on). Really, the ocean waves crashing and rolling in were just out of this world beautiful!

Great stop, not handicap accessable beach. Stairs have been washed away so use caution. But other that just a really nice beach with caves and waterfalls.
Buckeye B — Google review
Super gorgeous beach. Neat little caves right at the water. Only complaint was the steps down or lack there of. There used to be steps and they're half missing so it's a little bit dangerous stepping down. But once on the beach it's gorgeous. Also have actual bathrooms not just out houses.

Nature & Parks
Ecola State Park offers a dramatic 7-mile trail with stunning views of Haystack Rock, a lighthouse, and isolated beaches. It is part of a full-day trip from Portland that explores Oregon's scenic northern coastline, including stops at Oswald West State Park, Cannon Beach, and Manzanita. The park features wind-swept rocky beaches, picturesque winding roads, sweeping coastal views, charming beach towns with quaint shops and art galleries.
Beautiful park with incredible views. The drive into the park was really nice with the lush green and ocean views the entire way. I went after Cannon Beach and didn't have much time but the viewpoints and short trails to the water was worth the trip. I wish I had more time to explore the park, but the small part I saw was worth the trip.
Joe D — Google review
Beautiful park with stunning views and the drive to the trails were lush with trees, ferns and thick with forest floor undercover. The trails are just as thick with trees and ferns. We're out of state and gladly paid the $12.00 to park. Since we're new to the area we weren't quite sure if we were turning on the correct road to enter. As we were turning slowly into the park we were met by a park ranger leaving and he motioned for us to roll our window down. He proceeded to tell us "that it would be nice if we used our blinker when we turned." It would've been "nice" if he chose to be "nice". Next time when we come to Oregon and visit your beautiful park we'll make sure we use our blinker since we will be familiar where to turn. Have a "nice" day!

Always enjoy our visit to this park. Beautiful drive from Cannon Beach thru moss covered forest. The road is narrow with lots of curves and they recommend no trailers. There is plenty of parking especially at Indian Beach. Lots of open space at the park along with picnic tables. Spectacular views of the lighthouse, ocean, Haystack rock and rhe Needles. Parking permit required and can be purchased at self-service kiosk.

A gorgeous view! The drive through the trees to get here is so lovely, too. A must visit spot if you're in the area. Very short drive out of Cannon Beach.

I'm a Goonie at heart and this is what brought us here but.... It's simply breathe taking. Clean public restrooms, pay to use park, and you could just take it all in all day. I can see why this place was chosen to be in a movie!! Definitely a must just to take in the pure beauty of Oregon!
JAMES L — Google review
We went here on our weekend in Oregon. Easy to find with Google maps, there is a $5 entrance fee. After walking around and taking in the views we walked down the trail to Indian Beach. Worth the stop!

Such a beautiful place! Gorgeous nature, interesting spots to see, and plenty of space for a nice walk. Truly worth visiting
Lujza P — Google review
The drive in was beautiful, paved all but about a 10th of a mile. We went all the way out to a large parking lot and found a spot - was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday at noon (but maybe thats normal?) We went just to view the lighthouse and were not disappointed! Luckily we only had to walk a hundred or so feet into the grass to see the lighthouse, we had a twisted ankle in the group. Part of the movie The Goonies was filmed from up there, reccomend any fan stop for a peek! Can see haystack rock too! Next time we'll take a trail out farther! There are restrooms by the parking lot - no need to hike almost to the point!

Marsh's Free Museum, located in Long Beach, WA, is a quirky and unconventional attraction that draws visitors with its fascinating exhibits. The museum is home to the famous Jake the Alligator Man display, along with other chilling and astonishing artifacts that ignite curiosity in both kids and adults. Situated in the heart of Long Beach, this historical landmark offers a unique collection of oddities on display, making it a must-visit destination for those looking for an offbeat and entertaining experience.
This free museum is iconic. My elementary school would travel 2 hours out to the beach to show us this museum and Jack the alligator-man. This museum is huge and it has a lot for you to see. Most of their prices have remained reasonable over the years. My husband and I feel so lucky to be able to take our kids here today.

Seriously a one of a kind gift shop. We just recently visited and maybe I should have gotten more photos they had so many cool old machines to play on, a penny machine, Jake the alligator man. And gifts for anyone quiet literally! So many fun gifts and trinkets. If you need a must have vacation item visit here!

A one-of-a-kind gift shop featuring bizarre, eerie, and vintage circus oddities, the museum is free to enter, and the gift shop boasts a wide array of offerings with friendly staff ready to help.

Lots of fun oddities and artifacts to see. I especially loved all of the coin-operated mechanical games and music boxes, though I was bummed to see the Orchestrion was out of order. If you like Ye Olde Curiosity Shop in Seattle, you'll have a great time. Go visit Jake, he's waiting for you!

This was a very fun stop on our trip on the Oregon coast. It’s more of a gift shop than museum although there is lots to look at. It’s a great leg stretch but not what I expected. We still had fun and the people were nice.

Cape Disappointment State Park

Nature & Parks
Historical landmark
Cape Disappointment State Park, located at the mouth of the Columbia River in Washington, spans 1,882 acres and offers a diverse range of natural attractions. Visitors can explore two historic lighthouses, scenic trails that traverse various ecosystems including beaches, dunes, and forests with ancient trees. The park also features the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center which recounts the famous expedition's history. Additionally, remnants of Fort Canby and eight miles of forested hiking trails are available for exploration.
We had a great time camping here. We stayed in site C 167 it was a really nice spot with a quick pathway to the beach. (166 & 167 would be 2 great spots together) The campground was pretty full but stayed relatively quiet. Clean restrooms but a bit small for the amount of people it had to service. Lots of great hiking trails throughout the campground. 2 lighthouses & lots of great history to see & read about. I would definitely recommended Cape Disappointment if your looking for a beautiful campground with lots to do. Also it's a great place to bring your bike & dog.

Don't miss this beautiful park, especially on a sunny and clear day. The views of the mouth of the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean are delightful. The Lewis and Clark Museum does a wonderful job of describing the journey they took and challenges they faced, the movie is well done. There are restrooms in the museum and picnic tables in several areas. Enjoy!

Went here for the first time recently despite our many previous visits to the Long Beach peninsula. We had our Discovery Pass (either get a $10 pass or better yet get the $30 annual pass) so we explored all the "nooks and crannies"of this special and unique park including Cape Disappointment Light House, the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, Bell's View Overlook, Beard's Hollow Overlook, and Waikiki Beach! Plenty of parking throughout the park on our trip during a Thursday in early August. The weather was nice and cool but definitely windy in some spots along the coast.

This place is definitely worth visiting. I hiked the North Head Trailhead, which is 3 miles out and back with an average of a 500ft elevation gain. It is a moderate trail, with a lot of increases and decreases along the way. The forest views are stunning and from one vantage you can view the sea. I also did the easy walk out to North Head Lighthouse, and guests can book to stay in one of the former keeper’s residences. I did not get to hike out to Cape Disappointment because parking is very small at the trail head. I think there is another way to access it by trail, but after 4 hours of hiking, I was all set. I would say get there early to park if there is a specific place you want to visit and if you aren’t camping already in the park. I will be back! I have to get to Deadman’s Cove and Cape Disappointment.
Jennifer A — Google review
A pretty substantial campground with a variety of types of sites (power, water, yurt, etc.). Many of the sites are rather open and lack privacy if you plan to use a tent. We had a really nice fire pit with a convenient way to raise and lower the cooking surface. Be prepared for potentially strong cold breeze off the ocean and racoons rummaging around in the morning.
Josh — Google review
We came out for a few days to hike and go to the beach and I've wanted to come here since I was a kid. We brought our dog who is kind of old so we couldn't do the longer trails. But we did a few short ones and met a lot of other cute dogs :) the lighthouse gift shop was a little over priced but we still got a little sticker and poster to bring home. Really wonderful walk. And it wasn't too busy because it was overcast.

Cape Disappointment State Park is an absolute gem on the Washington coast. The park offers breathtaking scenery everywhere you look, from dramatic cliffs and dense evergreen forests to sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and the Columbia River. The park is very well maintained, with clean trails, well placed signage, and public restrooms that are impressively clean. Parking and access are straightforward, and the park is easy to reach by car, making it convenient for a day trip or a longer stay. One of the highlights is the sunset. Watching the sky transform into shades of orange, pink, and purple over the ocean! Whether you’re cycling, walking, or taking in the lighthouse, Cape Disappointment is perfect!

Cape Disappointment quickly became one of our favorite camp spots since our first visit a few years ago. There is so much to explore and experience - from camping practically right on the beach (tent, yurt or trailer), hiking one of the many trails, exploring its historical background through trails and the interpretive center, nature exploration and just breathtaking views, to being just a short drive from Long Beach and Astoria and all they have to offer. Worth a visit or a stay!
