Farms
Masker Orchards is a family-friendly orchard offering fruit picking and fun activities for all ages. With 14 apple varieties that ripen at different times, the picking season is extended, providing ample opportunities to gather fresh produce. The orchard has been recognized as one of New York's best by Forbes and is known for its country store offering baked goods and juices.
We came with my kid's school field trip which was awesome! We got here at 10am. On a Wednesday and I couldn't believe it was still a good amount of people! However, it's late September and still 50% of good apples left..so not so bad. However, they don't really label which apples are what in some areas. The view was beautiful. The shop ran out of apple cider donuts already around 11ish am. A cold bottle of apple cider was very good after walking up and down hills carrying a heavy apple bag. Overall kids had so much fun and loved it!

I have been to many farms for apple picking nothing comes close to Maskers orchids in Warwick friendly staff great food amazing and delicious apple ciders and jams as well as a wide range of exquisite treats for the family even great for bird watching and picnics one of the widest selections in apple varieties the largest apple picking farms I've been to yet. I highly recommend a visit fun for the whole family very kid friendly with activities and lots to do hey rides pony rides bouncy houses.

Aaaahh… where do we begin, an exploration of insects, plants, herbs and most of all… apple heaven. They are very organized, most trees are labeled and the bags they provide you with have a map on them! A 200 acre oasis of greenery, I noticed families picnicking and having family fun while others were playing with their dogs. We picked a lot of apples and purchased their apple cider… which we also used to make delicious apple cider pancakes. Its a drive-through orchard and you can basically park in any of five parking areas within the orchard, some roads are rocky, if your car doesn’t have good ground clearance, I suggest parking by the entry, and walking your way through. As you hike up, you will notice picturesque landscapes. I had forgotten what fresh fruit tastes like until I started picking my own, it’s a world of a difference and I highly recommend it. This place is vast with apple trees and a plethora of varieties to choose from. Check out their website, you can also order online and pick up in store. So many things available for all ages.

Family day trip at Masker Orchard. The hills are amazing and the apples are delicious. Lots of food and kids fu to enjoy.

Apple picking is our new family tradition. We never been here before. We do like that we can drive through. However, would like the roads to be a little more stable. It may have been slippery too due to the rain from the morning. They have a farm animals such as goat, horses and chickens. Kids had fun. And they have a few clean shop with many different organic products. They also have a lot of choices in food. The staff are very nice and accommodating. Would definitely recommend. And the views are breathtaking
H&R P — Google review
I’ve been coming to this orchard for many years! It’s always a joy to come and see God’s creation, and relax with the family. After picking apples, you have the option to stop by the shops and get fresh products. One of my favorites is apple donuts with half a gallon of apple cider!
Boris P — Google review
We go here every year, and we greatlybenjoy picking the apples. Also like you can eat as many apples as you want. That BETTER not change... That being said, the new management leaves a lot to be desired. Some apple trees aren't labeled consistently, so unless there is a map that shows where everything is, I'd say to make an updated map, showing where every type of apple is. Also, the amount of poison ivy everywhere is ridiculous. There are pets and young children running around the orchard, who could easily touch it. I saw it in a lot of spots, including around the trees. This needs to be fixed. Some of the prices for the food is a bit much, when it's pretty bland. The donuts are fantastic, as is the apple cider. I haven't tried the brisket, ribs, or hot dogs, so those might be good. $40 for one bag is highway robbery. What if you only pick 20 apples? You're still being charged that amount??? Insanity! And we used to be able to have multiple bags! What happened? This. Needs. To. CHANGE.. FIX THESE ISSUES, or you will continue to lose service from loyal customers. P.s. I will continue to "greatlybenjoy" your orchard. 😊

We spent a wonderful afternoon picking apples, friendly staff, very helpful, great prices, tasty pies and jams. I wish we had sampled their BBQ but we got there later than we planned and decided to get to picking first. Their cider was delicious and wished we had brought more home. Fantastic experience, every year.

Food & Drink
Warwick Valley Winery, Distillery & Orchard is a charming vineyard that offers regular tastings and features an on-site bakery/cafe. Visitors can also enjoy seasonal apple picking at the orchard. Additionally, the establishment houses 17&O, a sustainable candle company with a brick-and-mortar location on Warwick Main Street. Guests have praised the friendly and knowledgeable staff, as well as the live music and delicious food offerings such as brick oven-style pizza, wings, and truffle fries.
Such a wonderful place! We went for a Bob Dylan show and the vibes were great. The venue is beautiful, and so many places to sit and room for kids to run around. We had the best day sitting in the grass and enjoying the music. The food and drinks are all great - with a special shout out to the Margherita pizza. The cafe and store are so well stocked. Everyone there was so nice. Just a wonderful day all around - we can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful place to eat, drink, and listen to music! Their cider and food was so delicious and affordable. There was so much to explore and many different areas to sit and eat. All staff were extremely kind and friendly, they also kept every area very clean.
Sabrina R — Google review
Honestly, it was a very meh experience. The wine tasting atmosphere was not inviting and very casual. The food was lacking for its price. The service wasn’t friendly and it took them a while to acknowledge us. The only thing that we liked was the wine & cider they produced.
Kristy L — Google review
Visited for the first time this weekend and not only was the weather perfect but the cider, wine, food and apples were amazing! Our wine steward, Dawn, was very knowledgeable and friendly! She gave us plenty of recommendations on how to mix and serve the different ciders and spirits. We were even able to take a group photo on the tractor Will definitely visit again in the spring or summer
R Q — Google review
Such a fun place to spend the day! This winery and orchard (about 1.5 hours from Jersey City or NYC) has everything — apple picking, wine tasting, food, drinks, live music, and even ice cream. We’d been here a couple of years ago and came back recently — it’s still just as great. We went at the end of September/early October, and the orchard was full of beautiful apples — red, green, super crisp and sweet. Apple picking costs $40 per bag (they give you a big one to fill), and honestly it’s worth it. We filled ours easily and the apples were top quality. The place is huge, with tons of open green space and picnic-style seating. Perfect spot to bring a blanket, relax on the grass, and enjoy some drinks. They had live music when we visited, and the whole vibe was just super chill and family-friendly. We tried a few ciders, one cocktail, and ordered pizza and a pulled pork sandwich — all tasty, a bit pricey but expected for this kind of spot (around $45 for the food). There’s also a shop where you can buy wine or cider bottles to take home — great for gifts! Overall, a perfect fall day trip. Plan to spend the whole day there — eat, drink, pick apples, and enjoy the view. Highly recommend bringing a blanket and just soaking it all in 🍎🍷
Ivanna K — Google review
Our favourite upstate apple picking / cider drinking / whiskey tasting / fall experience. On the weekends it can get pretty busy so we opt for the Tuesday chill vibe. The tasting room is open and you can try the local ciders or whiskey. Grab some snacks from the fridge and chill in the crisp fall air and relax. They have an amazing orchard of apples with tons of varieties to pick from. Everyone is always really friendly and knowledgable about all the stuff they produce. The grounds are beautiful to roam. Easy to get to and park. Close to the town of Warwick.
Michael H — Google review
Overpriced for what it is. $10 parking fee and a 15% service charge even on to-go food orders and drinks, including apple cider and sodas. Food and wine were just okay. The food and drink lines are separate, so you have to wait in long lines twice (even at 2pm) — and after ordering, we waited 35 minutes for the food to come out. It also took about 50 minutes just to find a table, which had no chairs. The portapotty bathrooms were dirty and unpleasant. Apple picking was ok, but overall it felt too expensive, crowded, and not very family-friendly.

Beautiful place, We had a great time with family and friends. Their pizza was delicious and the spirits are amazing.

Bear Mountain State Park

State park
Nature & Parks
Bear Mountain State Park, located just over the Bear Mountain Bridge from Westchester, is a lush and mountainous park offering a variety of activities for visitors. Families can enjoy the old-fashioned carousel, zoo, playground, swimming pool, and open spaces for kids to run around. Adults will appreciate the convenient picnic tables and grills.
We recently hiked up to the top of Bear Mountain, and it was such an incredible experience! The trail led us to a summit at 1,289 feet, where we were rewarded with stunning 360° views of the Hudson River, the city skyline, and the beautiful Hudson Highlands—definitely worth the climb! We brought our dog along, and he probably enjoyed it even more than we did! 🐶 The entire park is super dog-friendly, and we saw quite a few other happy pups along the way. It was great to see how welcoming the trails were for furry companions. We also walked part of the Appalachian Trail, which offered some beautiful scenery throughout the hike. Later, we explored one of the shorter one-mile loops around the lake, and the view there was just as amazing—peaceful and picturesque. Whether you’re up for a full hike or just want a relaxing nature walk, Bear Mountain has something for everyone. Highly recommend it for a fun and refreshing day outdoors!
HARNI P — Google review
Bear Mountain State Park is such a beautiful place to visit. The views are stunning, especially from the top, and the trails are well kept with options for both easy walks and more challenging hikes. It’s very peaceful and a great spot to relax, take photos, or have a picnic. There’s plenty of space for families, and the scenery by the lake makes it extra special. A perfect getaway from the city!
Eli V — Google review
My trip to Bear Mountain was a refreshing escape into nature. The park offers the perfect mix of outdoor activities, scenic views, and peaceful spots to just relax. The trails are well-marked and range from easy walks along the river to more challenging hikes with rewarding panoramic views at the summit. The highlight for me was the overlook from Perkins Memorial Tower—you can see the Hudson River winding through the valley, and on a clear day, even catch a glimpse of the Manhattan skyline in the distance. It’s breathtaking. The park also has a lovely lake where you can rent boats, a small zoo featuring local wildlife, and plenty of picnic areas that make it family-friendly. In the fall, the foliage is stunning, and in the winter, there’s even an ice-skating rink. Parking can get crowded on weekends, so it’s best to arrive early. Also, be sure to bring water and snacks if you plan on hiking the longer trails. Overall, Bear Mountain is a great spot for nature lovers, hikers, and anyone looking for a quick getaway from city life. I’d definitely recommend it for a day trip or even a weekend outing.
Divyesh P — Google review
I love the park. The hiking is fantastic. The paths are great. The views are spectacular. I give it a 4 because the zoo is not necessary, and it’s a bit dated. I’d like to see a nice country store there with food and beverage options. The current concessions are a bit dated and unsatisfactory. I recommend bringing your own food and beverages.
D M — Google review
Had an amazing time at Bear Mountain State Park! The hike was a perfect mix of challenge and reward, with stunning views of the Hudson River once we reached the top. The park is well-maintained, and the atmosphere is peaceful and refreshing—great for a quick escape from city life. We enjoyed the scenic drive, the cool breeze by the lake, and even spotted a few deer along the trail. Whether you’re into hiking, relaxing by the water, or just soaking in nature, this place has something for everyone. Don’t miss out the swimming pool for 5$. Highly recommend visiting, especially during fall or early summer!
Revanth C — Google review
Parking Fee: $10.00 Well maintained trails, okay for active/well-trained dogs, and good for outdoor picnics/bbq/hot pot. We used the AllTrails app to track our progress and it took about 3.5 hours to complete the hike. The views from the highest points were beautiful. Visiting during fall has its perks as the weather is cool, the autumn foliage is in full swing, and there aren’t as many insects to watch for. *** Please beware of ticks! There were three that latched onto the corgi.
Erin L — Google review
Beautiful nature. Get there early for better access and enjoy picnic with your family and friends, park have rules like every other park in NY, long hikes and unforgettable views. This is an amazing place. Parking lot for only 10.00.

Would come back again. Went for the first time and really enjoyed it! There’s a lot of steps going up the mountain but nice scenic views!

Frederic V. Malek West Point Visitors Center

Mentioned on

Visitor center
The Frederic V. Malek West Point Visitors Center is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the rich history of the U.S. Army and the prestigious West Point Academy. This free museum offers an engaging experience, featuring a captivating video that delves into the academy's past and provides insights into cadet life. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views of the Hudson River from its lobby. Many guests have found themselves pleasantly surprised by the wealth of information and beauty housed within this center.
Where you get bus tours or asks information, they accept cash only! They instruct you where the atm is. Clean restroom, spacious lobby, beautiful vista on hudson lake. See images for reference.
Nico S — Google review
Definitely, a place to visit. While it is the United States Military Academy, it is full of history and a very scenic place sitting above the. Hudson River. The museum is free, and you can walk around, but they do offer a bus tour.
Neil Y — Google review
Loved the Visitor's Center. I came after booking a bus tour. While waiting for the tour to start, I started walking through the visitor's center but only got a few rooms in and I had noticed 30 minutes had flown by. I returned later after the tour and finished the visitor's center, which took me about an hour to complete. The visitor's center has a ton of modern and interesting exhibits about West Point, its history and the academy's 4-year curriculum, which I found very interesting. I was thrilled to learn of what the cadets go through, from their first day through graduation. There are a few interactive exhibits including two movie rooms. I also found out that the visitor's center and neighboring museum are both completely free! You do not need to book any tour or obtain a pass to visit these buildings. Currently, masks are required in both buildings at all time. I highly recommend the visitor's center, museum and bus tour ($18 ish) to everyone of all ages.
Jemlnlx — Google review
The Visitors Center is lovely, with clean restrooms and an extensive gift shop. The highlight for us was "The West Point Experience." It was an impressive exhibit. It started with a short movie covering the history of West Point and an overview of its mission and focus. We then walked through the interactive, multi-media section which again touched on the history of the institution, and then went into detail about the 47 month long journey of a cadet at West Point. Well worth the time, and it's free!
David S — Google review
Modern, new visitor center that gives you a taste of the cadet's life. Can't wait for the museum to be opened again though.

Storm King Art Center

Mentioned on

Art center
Museums
Storm King Art Center is a sprawling 500-acre sculpture park that is open seasonally to the public. Visitors can enjoy tram tours, bike rentals and a cafe while taking in the beauty of the grounds and sculptures. It's recommended to wear comfortable shoes as there are inclines and walks through woods like a casual hike. Bundle up on cooler days as it gets chilly fast once the sun sets, but make sure not to leave before seeing all of the art on display.
As someone who is both an art and nature lover, visiting the Storm King Art Center was an unforgettable experience. Exploring the grounds as well as the special indoor art exhibition were truly a magical experiences. The park was incredibly easy to navigate, peaceful, and full of so many different artworks that are absolutely delightful to experience. There is something here for every art lover. There are also little carts available for people to ride on throughout the park in order to get to different parts of the area quickly and efficiently, which is great. I personally walked the entire time and would recommend wearing comfy, weather appropriate shoes and clothing, as well as bringing a water bottle and a snack (they permit picnics in the park as far as I know) The bathrooms were accessible and widely available and there were tons of areas and benches to sit at. I don’t regret visiting at all and will definitely be returning.
Daisy K — Google review
I had a fabulous time at Storm King Art Center. Upon entering, one of the funniest realizations I had about the energy of the space was actually while using the entrance bathroom. You're washing your hands in outdoor sinks, overlooking the foliage and trees. It was in that instant I knew I was going to enjoy my visit. You could say that the art of Storm King is within the contents of its very own landscape as sculptures and nature collide. I intentionally chose to visit during autumn when the tress started to change colors in the leaves, having been told that the change in color affects the interpretation and experience of the sculpture. It's true! I can imagine that visiting at different times throughout the year yields unique experiences. I had so much fun walking along the path; you can also rent a bike or take a tram while you're there as well if you decide. It was nice to see the park accessible to everyone, showing consideration for the visitors who were there. I also really enjoyed basking in the colossal sculptures, but was most excited to see one of Noguchi's work near the museum. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this open air museum at least once. It's a unique experience, and as a NYC native, I appreciated being able to see large works in that capacity. I've seen many galleries and museums, but this was just something special.
Jasmine — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking place — part outdoor museum, part nature escape. The massive sculptures scattered across open fields, hills, and trees make you feel like you’re walking through a dream landscape. Every turn gives you a new perspective — some pieces look completely different depending on where you stand. I went on a clear autumn day, and the colors of the trees mixed with the giant metal and stone sculptures were just stunning. It’s quiet, peaceful, and incredibly inspiring. You do need to walk a lot (or rent bikes or use the tram), so wear comfy shoes and bring water. The park is huge — easily a half-day or full-day visit if you want to see everything. Tickets are a bit pricey, but totally worth it for the experience. Perfect for art lovers, photographers, or anyone who just wants to be surrounded by beauty and space. Tip: Go early in the day, bring a hat and water, and take your time — it’s not about rushing, it’s about letting the art and landscape unfold around you.
Ada K — Google review
Amazing location! Gorgeous in the fall with the changing leaves and mountains. Lots of walking including hills and gravel paths. It took me almost four hours of nonstop walking to see everything. Definitely take the map offered with you. The scultures were hit or miss. Some winners and some "meh." I like Grounds for Sculpture outside Newark, NJ much better. Definitely worth a stop on a beautiful day and you want to get your steps in. They do offer trams throughout the park but you will miss half the sculptures if you stick to the trams. They offer bike rentals but you have to walk them on the gravel paths which are about half of the network. There are picnic tables in one area of the park and a small cafe.
K L — Google review
I spent 6 hours here and I barely got to look through everything. This place is very cool, even without the art, the nature and the picturesque views already makes this a top tier park to bring your kids to. The art adds a striking contrast that just looks really cool. Getting around the park is pretty easy. It's a huge park, but you don't need to walk it. There is a tram that comes around and brings you to all the different locations around the park. The tram is on time pretty much down to the minute. You can also ride around on a rented bike. I personally don't recommend this. It's really expensive and you can use up a lot of time if you want to stop and look at the art. Not to mention some of the paths where bikes aren't allowed and you need to walk your bike several hundred meters. Overall, this is an amazing place. I came here twice and it still blows my mind.
Erik Z — Google review
Lovely grounds to spend a few hours. Recommend during foliage! $25 entry per person. Can picnic on the grounds on the grass or at the picnic tables. The Maya Lin installment can be accessed inside each month from 15th to end of the month. Very special place to visit in Hudson Valley! Lots of parking on site available.
Maria Y — Google review
I went there for a field trip when I was a child and decided to bring my teen who’s interested in art. She loved it. She didn’t love all the walking. This is great if you want to spend the day hiking up steep hills. But, also good because if you choose not to walk they offer free trams to locations throughout the property. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy or dirty if you decide to walk to each installation. We had so much fun! Now for a well deserved nap. 😂
Pocahontas — Google review
One of the best sculpture parks in the Northeast! The grounds are very large so be prepared to walk if you want to go on your own. I recommend taking the shuttle around the park first to get your bearings and see what you might want to look at closer, they run around the park about every 1/2 hour. The area around the gift shop/gallery is one of the area you should see. Many sculptures and spectacular views! First Friday of the month is usually a free admission day, It's worth the trip!

Embark on the Pride of the Hudson, an 85-foot boat that offers a scenic tour through the stunning Hudson Highlands. We had such a wonderful experience aboard the Pride of the Hudson! From start to finish, every staff member we encountered was warm, welcoming, and incredibly friendly, which made the entire experience feel so inviting and enjoyable. The views along the Hudson River were absolutely unmatched, breathtaking scenery everywhere you looked. The boat was clean, comfortable, and spacious, with plenty of room to take in the sights from both the indoor seating and the open-air deck. It was a smooth and relaxing ride, and the narration offered fascinating bits of local history without being overwhelming. Whether you’re a local or visiting the Hudson Valley, this cruise is a must-do. Highly recommend!

I'm the president of a newly formed senior group called the Sandyston Legends. For our first group trip we choose The Pride of the Hudson river cruise. We were not disappointed. Besides the weather being perfect the cruise was so relaxing and informative. Everybody in our group had a great time. The staff was great. And a special thank you to Lynn for the arrangements. We will definitely be back and we'll spread the word to other groups in our area

What a fantastic 2 hour tour on the Hudson. We wanted something fun for our wedding guests to do that were in town the day before the big event. This was the perfect activity. The crew were exceptional and even sectioned off an area for our party to have privately, which made it great for dropping off our bags and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Also, they make a killer espresso coffee with a kick on board. Forget the mimosa and get the coffee drink. Thank you for an incredibly fun time!!!!!

This was a nice simple boat trip up the Hudson River, turn around by West Point and come back down. It’s a nice simple couple hours. There is a cash snack concession. The seating was spacious both upstairs and downstairs. The crew was attentive, and the captain was informative. The narration was automated and loud enough for even handicap people to hear. This trip allows you to see many historical houses and West Point. We definitely would do this again.

We went on the pride of Hudson as part of a two week vacation To the Rockland County area. This was a fantastic way to see all the places on the eastern west side of the Hudson that we have driven past for many years. The staff was so friendly and helpful, and you could tell they love their job. Love supporting local businesses like this

Yesterday was our 2nd time on the Pride of the Hudson. Our 1st time was in August 2021. It is a really nice 2hr cruise on the beautiful Hudson River. You get to see all of the historic sights & go down to West Point & back up again. The ship is always full so go early if you want a seat but we usually wind up standing to take pics & be out of the sun when my son needs to & so then we sit downstairs for a lil bit at a table, have some drinks(you can bring your own just not alcohol) & watch the views there while listening to the narrator. They sell snacks, hot dogs & every kind of liquor & beers. It is really a great time & we will probably go back again in a year or 2 again!

We chartered the Pride of the Hudson boat for our 45th Wedding Anniversary in October, and everyone had an absolutely splendid time! The captain and crew could not have been more welcoming and helpful to the large (90+) group on board, and went out of their way to make sure everyone was doing well. As you might have guessed, some of the folks in attendance were not as young as they used to be, but with the ramps on the dock and to the ship, along with able assistance from the staff, we all got on and off board safely. The weather cooperated and we had spectacular views of the fall foliage throughout the trip. I heartily recommend this company for anyone looking to have a wonderful time cruising on the Hudson!

Dia Beacon

Dia Beacon is a massive contemporary art museum located in a former Nabisco box printing factory, offering an awe-inspiring collection of modern works from the 1960s to the present day. The museum overlooks the Hudson River and features a large permanent collection by renowned artists such as Richard Serra, Louise Bourgeois, Dan Flavin, and Gerhard Richter. In addition to its permanent collection, Dia Beacon regularly hosts temporary exhibits and large-scale sculptures.
Walking into Dia Beacon feels like entering a cathedral of perception. The former Nabisco box-printing factory, bathed in diffused Hudson Valley light, holds an atmosphere where time slows down — each artwork not merely installed, but breathing within the architecture. The vast industrial volume redefines the relationship between viewer, material, and void. In one wing, Gerhard Richter’s grey mirrors dissolve the boundary between reflection and opacity. Their stillness absorbs the daylight, folding the gallery’s gridded windows into painterly illusions. Nearby, Larry Bell’s glass constructions and Robert Irwin’s scrims create corridors of uncertainty, where the viewer becomes both subject and shadow. Walking through them is like inhaling air made visible — each surface a study in the gradations of transparency, color, and self-awareness. Descending further, the visceral pull of Richard Serra’s torqued ellipses commands bodily engagement. Their curved steel walls — monumental yet tender — demand slowness. Each turn offers a recalibration of weight, balance, and sound; your footsteps become part of the sculpture’s resonance. A parallel intensity exists in Michael Heizer’s voids, massive cuts into the floor that feel like the earth exhaling inside a room. Looking down is both thrilling and unsettling, a reminder of the geological scale that art can inhabit. Elsewhere, Joseph Beuys’s vitrines, Bruce Nauman’s neon, and John Chamberlain’s crushed metal offer counterpoints — gestures of humor, ritual, and defiance. In another hall, On Kawara’s textual works anchor time as language, while Lawrence Weiner’s wall texts and On Kawara’s banners (seen overhead) reframe the act of reading as a spatial rhythm. Dia Beacon’s curatorial strength lies in restraint. It allows artworks to exist in long, unhurried conversations with each other — a rare luxury in today’s overstimulated museum culture. The light changes, the shadows migrate, and so does one’s sense of the self within the work. Leaving the museum, one carries a strange calm — as if the act of seeing had been purified into its essence: space, light, and the quiet endurance of form.

Excellent collection of some big names in contemporary modern sculpture. The space alone is stunning, prime for highlighting Negative Space, and it really is mostly negative space larger pieces, which makes it easy to cover such a large building -former Nabisco factory-. My all time favorite are the Richard Serra pieces: fabulous.
Carlos L — Google review
I found the building itself to be more fascinating than the art. Definitely go when it is sunny out. It's a former Nabisco printing plant. The art was very experimental; a few pieces were cool but most of it was silly and I love modern art. If you are in the area, it's still worth a stop. I wish I could roller skate thru the building. It's that big!

The gallery itself has a lot to offer, but the staff definitely needs more training. There’s no need to warn visitors not to touch the exhibits before they’ve even approached them. It comes off as unwelcoming. Also, we were rushed out repeatedly with two minutes left before closing, even though we only had two exhibits left to see. If the gallery is still open, staff should continue doing their jobs, not push visitors out prematurely.
Yuxi Y — Google review
Cool museum with lot sod varying exhibits - some of them are very interesting, others less so. Overall, definitely worth visiting if you’re in beacon and want to get some art in.
Rovik R — Google review
Nice gallery! One of the best experiences is to reach Beacon by train, from Manhattan. You have to buy the round-trip tickets at the station and kids under 12 pay very little. Returning to the gallery topic it is a must-visit for all art lovers.

There are many other places where you can see the works of genius artists from around the world, but this is probably the only place where artists are able to hold “solo exhibitions” without being cramped after their death. A wonderful environment.
Kubota N — Google review
Very esoteric museum. One must savor the intentions and imagination of the artist. What color is the color of the day? What color is the color of the number? Where imagination, empathy, creativity and the basic principles of interior designers are expressed in a complex... interesting place!!

Buddhist monastery set on 225 serene acres featuring a lake, pavilions & statues, open for tours.
Chuang Yen Monastery – I’ve been coming to Chuang Yen Monastery since childhood, and it’s always been a peaceful retreat. The stunning Giant Buddha is awe-inspiring, and the serene grounds are perfect for a quiet walk or meditation. The gardens are beautifully maintained, and there’s a calming energy here that makes it a wonderful spot for reflection. Please be respectful and read the signs, as there are many people who live here and prefer their privacy. When you explore, make sure it’s with respect and consideration. Chuang Yen Monastery is a special place that feels like a sanctuary. It’s been a part of my life for so long, and I can’t recommend it enough for anyone seeking peace and tranquility. 🕊️🌿🕊️🌿

We came here since year 2000 with our kids when they were young. We went yesterday since COVID, and I am disappointed. The buildings are about the same, still not very well maintained. The main Buddha building smells like mold inside. We especially disappointed at the lunch, the potato were not cooked completely, too much ketchup sauce so they taste sour, and the cabbage is also not cooked so they are too hard, the second dish we had were the cucumbers but tasted bitter. They need to do better for the food as many people are going to there to enjoy the complete package of the monastery experience.

Absolutely beautiful, peaceful monastery located deep in the backroads. The giant Buddha is amazing and worth the trip, but don’t skip out on walking the grounds.

Lovely spot, free to visit, donations welcome. Really peaceful, not too busy even in summer.

How fortunate. Came here on a weekday and find that this week marks the 60th anniversary of The Buddhist Association of the United States. A lot of people from all over and staying overnight at the monastery to celebrate. If you want, you can be part of the celebration. Even if you're not inclined to participate, you can still walk around the grounds to relax and take in the scenery. It's so peaceful here.

Just about 1 hour drive away from Manhattan this place offers a very different vibe. An easy walk around the compound takes you through an avenue of traditional statues, the main temple with the famous larger than life Buddha, and a small picturesque pond. There are restrooms, a small gift shop and you can also share the devotees vegetarian lunch or witness some of their ceremonies. Please review the website to see additional important visit details, learning opportunities and visitor rules.

Beautiful monastery and statues. If you come Saturday and Sunday there is $7 vegetarian lunch served from 11:30-1pm. Lovely place that bridges nature and spirituality.

Gorgeous works of art that are very thought provoking. Each piece of art in the gallery has a plaque of what the artist Donna was thinking at the time. She also points out different things to look for in the piece which makes it interactive and fun. We had a chance to chat with her and she’s so lovely! Such a fun time can’t wait to come back and see what other beauties she makes!

So glad we were able to visit the gallery during our trip! To be honest, I was drawn first by the complimentary wine/espresso, but the experience itself exceeded my expectation. We received a warm welcome from Donna's business partner Ken when we arrived on a quiet Sunday morning - he gave us a quick tour of the gallery, showed us the print machine that can reproduce artworks on canvas, and took us to see Donna's art studio. It is not everyday you can be inside an artist's work space to witness all the creativity! As an added bonus, we saw two young deers nippling at the grass outside the studio.. Donna's paintings were very colorful and each piece has an interesting story behind. The gallery was very spacious and you can really take your time to soak in the art work with a glass of wine! Highly recommended for anyone visiting New Paltz.

Impressive, gorgeous gallery in New Paltz! I was in the area visiting friends and decided to check this place out based on their recommendation. Yes, it's a little off the beaten path, but is so worth the scenic drive! The space is vast and beautiful. I wouldn't call myself a modern art expert by any means, but was taken by the use of bold color and texture. Donna's work is joyful and full of life, so it seems fitting that the paintings have room to breathe in this spacious layout. While some galleries can seem stuck up or cold, this one is quite the opposite. Donna (and gallery manager Ken) are more than happy to give you a personal guided tour, and Donna will share the origins and inspiration for her work. Don't be intimidated if you aren't an artist or don't know much about it -- you will still enjoy this gallery!

One doesn't always have to travel far to find a hidden treasure. I have lived in Gardiner for almost 40 years and recently discovered the wonderful DM Weil Gallery on Bruynswick Rd. The space is gorgeous, the artist engaging and her work captivating. In addition to a wide array of pieces (originals and prints) available at a variety of price points she offers unique art experiences for children and adults. The idea of spending a day with the artist - lunch, wine and creative expression included - has me alerting my friends and family to my latest addition to my birthday wishlist! Bottom line whether you have lived here all your life, find yourself in the area or are looking for a day trip make your way to DM Weil Gallery.

I first visited the gallery as a guest and loved the experience since I am an artist myself. Eventually I was given the opportunity to work at the gallery for a day to help the owners out and it was amazing. i was taught how to print, take detailed pictures and edit pieces of art. I learned a lot and got to immerse myself in another artists world. I got to tour the gallery myself and it is colorful and so fun to look at. I also was allowed to see DM’s studio which was really amazing, I loved seeing the hundred tubes of paint and her pieces that were in progress. I would 100% recommend visiting the gallery. It was fun and interesting and i thoroughly enjoyed having the experience of socializing with customers and seeing the art.

So happy I discovered this place. How wonderful it is to feel like you've stumbled upon the Hudson Valley's best kept secret. My husband and I popped in not expecting to spend the rest of our afternoon at the gallery. We enjoyed wine while speaking to the artist herself (such a down to earth, inclusive artist--a rarity these days). It was such a unique experience and I can't wait to return.

We stopped by this gallery because we needed some indoor activity near New Paltz on a rainy day and then wished we had stopped anyway. This gallery of abstract art is really accessible. You don't need to know anything about art to enjoy the very colorful pieces exposed. Plus they sell reproductions making it possible for many people to purchase something and bring some art home! We were nicely welcomed, offered a cup of espresso, explained how the gallery was setup and had the opportunity to chat with the artist! I highly recommend this gallery!

A must-see. The art work is stimulating and the artist and her assistant are friendly and inviting. A great place to bring that budding artist in your family, or spend a rainy day enjoying the art work and going into town for lunch. Coming from a family of artists I can say with confidence that I would buy her artwork in a second. In fact, I think I will!

Nature & Parks
Minnewaska State Park Preserve spans over 21,000 acres in the Shawangunk Mountains and boasts breathtaking views of waterfalls, three sky lakes, and 25 miles of trails ideal for hiking and biking. The park offers an assortment of territories to explore from wooded areas to rocky terrain while also featuring rock climbing opportunities. A highlight is the stunning fall foliage view that can be seen within a 15-20 minute walk.
Minnewaska State Park is about a 2-hour drive from Manhattan, and it’s completely worth it. The park has a beautiful waterfall and a stunning lake surrounded by vibrant fall colors. I did a short 30-minute trek to reach the top viewpoint instead of driving directly to the sunset spot and the view was spectacular 😍😍 The scenery from above was truly breathtaking, especially during fall. I didn’t have much time to explore the whole park, but even the little I saw was amazing. Highly recommend visiting if you love nature and want a peaceful escape from the city! 🌿🍁🏞️

This park is beautiful, it has a lake and waterfalls and multiple easy trails to walk. It also has a small beach with a lifeguard where you can swim. There is also an area for kayaking. The only thing I did not like, was the area for long distance swimmers, there is a sign that states “only members can swim”, however it doesn’t say you can’t walk in that area. My husband and I walked there and a crazy “Karen” wanted us to get out and go back to the trail. We were admiring the lake and walking and not bothering anyone. It really did not make any sense, needless to say I stayed longer just to make her enjoy her day 😂 even more, some people just act entitled and I will put them in their place if needed, but it’s not the park’s fault. After all, it is a park, and people should be allowed to explore unless otherwise posted. Aside from this incident, I would recommend this park, you will need a few visits to see everything! Also the visitor’s center staff are very friendly and helpful.

Minnewaska State Park is honestly one of my favorite places to just get away and chill. The views are unreal—think cliffs, lakes, waterfalls, and endless trees. I love hiking the trails here; every turn feels like a new adventure, and the air is so fresh. Whether I’m hanging out by the lake, snapping photos, or just taking in the scenery, it’s always super relaxing. It’s the kind of spot where you can totally unplug and just enjoy nature. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape with awesome views, you’ve gotta check this place out!

Hands-on most beautiful state park in New York has preserved the legacy of park’s founders Smiley brothers by maintaining the carriage roads and trails in excellent state. My favorite loop is to follow Castle road to Lake Awosting and return back via Hamilton road back to Minnewasca lake. Very scenic views that don’t require serious hiking effort, just slight inclines and declines. Natural beauty of Shawangunk Mountains here is supplemented by road building prowess of preserve’s founders and is the reason that we still have the park available now to thousands of daily visitors at a modest fee. Many grand historic hotels of Catskills don’t exist anymore including burnt out Cliff House and Windmere hotels previously located at shores of Lake Minnewasca till 1970s, so really glad that conservation efforts have succeeded here. New visitor center and expansive parking lots are huge improvement over park’s facilities of just six years ago.

Visited: Friday, October 24, 2025 I hiked the Castle Point Loop starting from the Upper Parking Lot. The parking lot was spacious and not crowded — definitely past the peak season — and parking was $10. The weather was a bit chilly, but the fall colors were still beautiful. At first, I took the UA trail toward Castle Point, but it was mostly gravel and not very exciting. Later I switched to the BR trail, which was better, though I hardly saw anyone the entire time — maybe fewer than five people total. The hike itself felt a bit monotonous; even on the way down, it was just gravel again, so I ended up jogging down. I remembered Gertrude’s Nose being much more interesting and scenic in comparison. I stopped by the Falls at the end, but honestly, it wasn’t something I’d go out of my way to see again. Overall, it’s a decent hike for solitude and views, but not one I’d rush to repeat — especially considering it takes around 5 hours round trip.
Karl K — Google review
Oh, it's so lovely. I come down from the north, and seeing the beautifully colored autumn leaves is especially a big treat. The most basic trail around the large lake in the park is perfect for couples to come and take a light, short walk. Of course, the surrounding scenery is beautiful, needless to say. If you've done a lot of hiking, there are courses suited to different abilities, so it would be great to experience them together. The view of the park from above is truly breathtaking. The visitor center is clean, and the staff are very friendly. Even though I visited on a cloudy day, I highly recommend it to anyone nearby or within a 1-2 hour drive!
Jason K — Google review
There is a lot of canopy for shade but there wasn't a lot of water coming over the falls. It was like a clogged shower head. You need to come after a rain storm. Over all it was nice, quiet, and not crowded. You can hear the sound of silence, and nature.
Doug H — Google review
One of our favorite park for years. You can hike. We love trail bike riding here with the family. The views are spectacular! Worth the uphill ride. No camera can capture its actual beauty. And we love what we call “the secret lake” - Lake Awosting since it’s in the middle of seemingly nowhere. Surrounded by hills and trees. Not always open so check before you go. Perfect full day activity. Bring snacks. Every ridges and valley points are worth stopping to just soak in all that grandeur nature has to offer! Please make sure to take your trash with you as you go to preserve its beauty.

Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
The Walkway Over the Hudson, also known as the Poughkeepsie Bridge, is a historic pedestrian walkway that spans the Hudson River, connecting Poughkeepsie and Highland. Originally built as a double track railroad bridge in 1889, it was damaged by fire in 1974 and later restored as a state historical park in 2009. At 1.
This was an amazing experience we really enjoyed riding our bikes over the entire bridge and it was nice to have vendors at each end that you could get something to drink or eat if you wished. Unfortunately the gift shop closes early so we missed that opportunity to get our souvenir as I usually like to pick up a sticker but we were told we can get those online. We were blessed with a beautiful day it was very warm but not overbearing. I was a little disappointed as I was hoping the bridge would be more decorated and not so cold looking it would have been nice if it had some hanging flowers or something like that but that might not be possible or so maybe some potted flowers that sit on the ground and flower beds or something just something to make it more appealing and warm. I enjoyed watching a large barge and tugboat go underneath the bridge as we were standing there. It was absolutely beautiful.

Great walkway over the Hudson, except for the elevator not being open to get back up to our car. Very nice views and most bikers were very considerate and going slower. Lots of walkers and restrooms on the other side were nice with AC!! Managed to walk over to the other bridge too, and did the entire loop. It was super hot and full sun so wear a hat, bring water etc.
Laura S — Google review
Beautiful walkway with spectacular views of our gorgeous Hudson Valley. I especially enjoy it during autumn with all the colors on display. It is dog friendly but not all dogs are comfortable walking over the bridge. Although the trails at either side of the walkway are green, the walkway is concrete so although you'll love the walk, your pup might be more interested in what's at either end.🙂

Breathtaking!! It is incredible to see this bridge take on a new chapter in it's life! If you want a good walk, scenic views and get a better understanding of its history, I highly recommend that you walk this bridge. It's full of life everyday, from routine walkers and runners, to tourists looking for the perfect photo to families learning about the area together!

Gorgeous views over the Hudson and a great walk. 30min causal walking from one side to the other. So an hour round trip for us and our dog. The walkway closed at one point due to lightning storm but opened up shortly after and we were treated to a gorgeous view.

Walkway over the Hudson is one of the most beautiful viewing vantage points on the Hudson in my opinion. We went just before dusk and the views were incredible! If you do decide to go later in the evening just remember to bring a sweatshirt or something cuz it gets kind of breezy once you get over the water. Spend the day of it and Traverse over the Mid-Hudson and walk over the Hudson and then grab something to eat in town and I'll definitely be an afternoon worth the trip.
Shawn ( — Google review
Walking on the bridge is about 10° cooler than elsewhere with the constant breeze over the Hudson River. It is incredibly beautiful and pleasant to walk the bridge. The bridge is very wide so you're not pushing past people. Bikes are allowed.
Chester L — Google review
A breathtaking view of the Hudson River and surrounding hilly region. An important note to set the destination in google map as We found it a bit confusing to reach the start of the bridge. Set the destination on Google maps as 1. Visitor Center @ the Walkway over the Hudson. (U can take elevator) 2. 84 N Water St, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601(walk along the river and take elevator) 3. 49 Parker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 (u can directly access the start of the walkway) There are vendors at the end of the bridge to have drinks and snacks after a long walk. There is an elevator which will take you down to the riverbank if you want some good pictures keeping the bridges at the backdrop. There are restrooms at entrances and one down the elevator. We had to leave early as we visited on 4th July and they closed it at 4 pm to reopen it @6pm for fireworks. I am sure the sunset view will be breathtaking. Will visit again. Also, consider visiting Ashokan reservoir if u have some time left for the day.. Take a look at the picture where u can do payment for the parking. Remember the numbered parking lot where u parked ur car. Take a small walk and find the parking kiosk in the platform( probably track2) Visit walkway.org for more info …

I very nice place! The building is rustic modern and I loved the framework, doorways, and stonework of the building! The pancakes we're ok but the wonderful syrup made it better. Service was good but the shop was a bit overpriced but had a variation of items you could buy. We we're told that the 2 for $25 deal for the 12oz bottles only applied for the same bottle but we still bought it and glad we did as the maple syrup is delicious!!

The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site is an estate that was once the birthplace and residence of the 32nd President of the United States. It features a federal-style home, library, and museum that are all historically significant to the country's past. The estate has been well-maintained over time and offers visitors beautiful landscapes, stunning views, and a feeling of being in a park full of life and history.
The history of FDR is relevant today more than ever. What a spectacular national park. The home and grounds were beautifully preserved. Our guide was very knowledgeable with many stories about the former president and first lady. The little cafe has some nice food and drink options. The gift store is enormous. I would highly recommend this but you definitely need more than one day to see everything.

What a historic and amazing home to visit! In visiting the FDR Library I also visited his home. You have to purchase a ticket to see the inside and it is with a park ranger tour. The ranger was very informative and gave us a great history about the Roosevelts and the home. I highly recommend visiting in conjunction with the presidential library.

Although the buildings were closed and unstaffed in late October due to federal closures, we visited the area and walked the grounds. Even from the exterior, we could enjoy the area — the vegetable garden, the building architecture and history, the beautiful views, and the inspiring artwork. Gratefully, there were few other visitors so we could go at our leisurely pace and spend time on the bench reflecting on how FDR and Eleanor created the government services that saved the country, even to today. An inspirational visit, it's a reminder that we have recovered from dark times before and can again.

This is the first presidential library and is well worth the visit. The park rangers are knowledgeable and answer questions with great detail and knowledge. The library, home and gift shop are all wonderful and well worth the visit. Family groups would certainly enjoy as this is a part of American history and conveys the times, life and loves of President Roosevelt's journey from child, adulthood and political career. Hyde Park and it's environs are also interesting with great food choices available. Come ... you won't be disappointed and if you have them... by all means bring your kids... you and they will learn a lot about President Roosevelt and american history!

We visited on a Friday afternoon in late June 2025. There were plenty of parking spaces in the parking lot when we arrived. There were a few that were shaded by trees but they were all taken. First thing we did was run into the info desk to get our tour tickets. it's located to the right when you enter. We got tickets for 2:30PM. There is a short film that plays in the visitor center on every hour and half hour in the auditorium. This is straight ahead. Directly to the left next to the doors when you come in is the NPS passport cancellation stamps. There are a few here and it's on a nice wooden table with glass top. If you continue to the left it's the gift shop (New Deal Store) and it's a pretty big one. The bathrooms are to the right behind the information desk. Also that's where the restaurant/cafeteria is and is called Uncle Sam's Canteen. To get to the site where the house tour begins, you walk out to the left and walk down the path pass the presidential library. and then veer off to the right to the stables or horse barn area. You meet for your tour there and our kids sat on some benches here to work on their junior range books they picked up at the info desk. The ranger giving the tour will start here and then walk everyone over to the house where you enter through the front doors. You can look around while they are talking, which is what I did to take pictures before the masses started running around. I found the main floor to be much more interesting than the upstairs floor which is mainly bedrooms. The rangers will gather everyone up and move everyone to the next floor together. You exit from the second floor out the back where they have makeshift metal stairs put in that take you down and around the back and side of the house and throws you back out front. Sadly we were behind schedule and didn't really have much time to explore much more of the property. We went straight back to the visitor center to turn in our junior ranger booklets and got the badges and left for Eleanor Roosevelts House at Val-Kil just down the street. Overall it was a great place to visit. There was so much more we could've done here and explored. I think if we were ever int he area again we would visit. We only had about an hour to explore the entire site and we did not plan enough time.

Due to the government shut down, I could not go inside. It is what it is! I was able to walk the grounds and there was plenty of self information displays. You still got a feel for FDR live style. I walked the 2.5 mile wooded trail from his home to the Vanderbilt estate but that was closed too

The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site in Hyde Park, NY, preserves Springwood, the lifelong home and final resting place of FDR, the greatest president of modern times. The Colonial Revival mansion reflects his legacy with personal collections and a serene estate, inspiring visitors with its intimate connection to this iconic leader.

It's very impressive place. The house has been preserved so carefully. It really transports you back to that time and you realize what a powerful background the Roosevelt family had… It’s definitely worth a visit.

The Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site is a remarkable 181-acre estate that serves as a tribute to one of America's most influential First Ladies. Nestled in the serene landscape, this site features Val-Kill Cottage, along with the Stone Cottage and a two-story building that once housed Val-Kill Industries. Visitors can explore beautifully maintained gardens, scenic trails, and tranquil ponds while learning about Eleanor's unique upbringing and her impactful life dedicated to social justice.
Val-Kill is packed with history. I enjoyed opening the drawers in the museum. There's a lot of them. The gardens were very impressive. While there is handicap parking, don't think you're going to get out of a long walk.

Eleanor Roosevelt's home is an amazing place. The ranger doing the tour was so very informative! I had no idea how well liked Eleanor was and that she was a civil rights leader. I will do more research to learn more about that amazing first lady!

The home captures ER’s warmth and humility. The exhibits and tour display her life truthfully, highlighting her positive effect on the world through her work as FDR’s partner and on her own after his death. The Park Rangers clearly admired ER and spoke intelligently about her life as a wife, mother, friend, wife, politician stateswoman, civil rights leader and pioneer.

We visited on a late Friday afternoon in late June 2025. We arrived right around 5PM so everything had just closed and we missed doing the tour and the exhibits in the visitor center etc. We did see folks leaving from the last tour. There were about 15 spaces in the parking lot and majority of the spots were filled. The parking lot is a bit of a walk to the visitor center. You have to walk over a bridge to actually get to the property. There were a couple of outdoor exhibits that we looked at and also read the kiosk signs and walk around the property in general. We were sad we didn't make it in time for the last tour at 4PM. We were delayed from the house tour at Franklin D. Roosevelts House just up the road. We were able to walk around and take a bunch of pictures. The lighting at the time of day was just getting good. We walked through the gardens and you could see through some of the windows of the houses. The bathrooms were still open when we visited after the visitor center was closed. It looks like they converted the garage into public restrooms. I think I heard one of the rangers saying that there is no gift shop here and it is all located at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Historic Site. Luckily for us we had already bought everything we wanted while we were there. Overall it was a nice property and I wish we had arrived sooner to walk through the visitor center and look at the houses.

Great chance to get a glimpse into the life of Eleanor Roosevelt beyond what she is generally known for, which is being FDR's wife. She led such a full life and did so many things for so many people, it's great that this historic site exists so you can learn about it. It's even better that it's free! Plus, if you spend some time there, you will realize why Eleanor found this to be her happy place where she found peace and contentment.

Unfortunately the homes were closed on a Monday. Free national parks day and they were closed. However, they're always closed on Mondays was a disappointment. The grounds are beautiful

Didn’t plan to become an Eleanor fan but the tour guide’s love and admiration for her converted us! The calming landscape is gorgeous. Best place for a relaxing day!

Arrived after 5 pm so we missed any of the possible tours but still enjoyed looking around the grounds. Lots of history associated with the Roosevelts here. The garden was beautiful with a wide selection of plants and flowers. Didn’t hike any of the trails due to the lateness of the day but looked fun to explore.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum

FDR's presidential library & former home with exhibits plus 2 wings dedicated to Eleanor Roosevelt.
A must-visit for anyone interested in American history or leadership. The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum is beautifully curated, immersive, and deeply inspiring. The exhibits bring FDR’s legacy to life—from the New Deal to World War II—using original documents, videos, and interactive displays. You also get a strong sense of Eleanor Roosevelt’s impact, which was a highlight. The grounds are peaceful and scenic, with access to the Roosevelt family home, burial site, and walking paths overlooking the Hudson Valley. It’s the first presidential library in the U.S. and still one of the best. Give yourself at least 3-4 hours to take it all in. Highly recommend for a meaningful and educational experience!

The FDR Museum was presented beautifully—like a walk through history, highlighting the pivotal changes FDR made to create a better America. The exhibits were informative, engaging, and easy to follow, offering a powerful sense of the era. The home tour was equally impressive. It was air-conditioned and allowed us to see most of the rooms, providing a real sense of how the Roosevelts lived. Our guide did a fantastic job sharing the history, explaining key events, and thoughtfully answering every question. A wonderful experience all around and a must-visit for anyone interested in American history.

This is the second presidential library I've visited and it was quite an amazing experience. The historical documents and letters especially where very cool to see. The library shows the entire life and presidency of FDR. The exhibits are very detailed and lots of historic pieces are at display! Seeing FDR's desk and car were also really cool!
George F — Google review
This has been the first and so far only presidential library I have visited. I didn't know it was in ny lol but for was a new Yorker . My wife and my intentions was to visit both the house and this wonderful library. But unfortunately the house was sold out with limited access. I'm not sure if it's open now but if you never been to a presidential library and you're local this is the place to be. My wife was amazed at what a trailblazer Eleanor was and there was a guide there who was very knowledgeable and took his time explaining some of the history. Hopefully soon it will reopen if it's closed highly recommended

Exceeded our expectations, our tour guide for the house was excellent and full of interesting information. The house is as it was when turned over to the NPS in 1946 and well worth tour The library has so many interesting exhibits and fascinating thing to learn I’m a history buff and discovered many new items Even the cafe is great the food was delicious and service quick and a very friendly staff Highly recommended visiting when you can we spent about 4 hours all together

The FDR Library and Museum is a wonderful experience. The grounds are incredibly well kept. The exhibits are extremely informative and are complimented by some wonderful real pieces of history. Plan to spend 3 hours here if you really plan on taking it all in. Would highly recommend.

I thought I know a lot about FDR, the New Deal, the Great Depression and WW II before I visited here. I didn't. After spending 3+ hours walking through the Museum and Library, your start to appreciate how much influence FDR had globally and over the 20th century.
Matthew B — Google review
Learned a lot of good history about FDR, beautiful and well maintained grounds, architecture of the house is fantastic, and the park rangers are all knowledgeable. I appreciate NPS protecting our heritage and they all do a fantastic job. If you're into history, are looking for a park, into architecture or love gardens; this spot has a great variety. Worth stopping by if you're in the area.

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome

Specialty Museums
The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is a museum that showcases vintage airplanes, cars and motorcycles from the early 1900s to 1935. The antique aircraft on display are not just for show, but still regularly fly during air shows held on weekends between mid-June and mid-October. Visitors have the opportunity to take a biplane ride for $100 per person, which includes hats and goggles if needed.
I really enjoyed the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. A wonderful collection of vintage Biplanes all the way back to the Wright brothers aircraft, so much aviation history in one place! Not only a great museum, but a functional airfield where they are flying these great old planes. Something you can’t see in too many other places, I highly recommend it.
Socomu — Google review
Very interesting spot for history and aviation lovers. We had great time here, the show in the air was interesting, but the ground part of the show was somewhat weird for us. The show was 2 hour long, with first 30 minutes preparations and mostly historical information. Be prepared for explosions and loud noises. Despite the aerodrome is pet friendly, I’d recommend to leave your pets at home, they will be scared by all the loud noises during the show. The pilots are really pros, I was amazed by some of the things they were doing and how good they maintain their fleet. Overall we loved it, but it would be nice to have more comfortable sitting area (it is a good idea to take a couple of chairs with you). I’d come again to see all the biplanes and pilots flying them.
Michael M — Google review
Absolutely awesome experience! Despite being a slightly chilly day, the 15 minute biplane ride was completely worth it for the best views of the fall colors in the Hudson valley. The museum collection has so many awesome planes and plenty of interesting facts. Access to the museum is a great value and I'll definitely be bringing more friends and family here in the future!
Rayleen W — Google review
Our first ever flight in a bi-plane. This was one of THE most amazing things we have ever done. So thrilling and wonderful. I’d do it again in a moment. I do NOT like flying and hate heights - so I was surprised I wasn’t nervous and loved it so much I’d paid the price again immediately to go up again. We decided to do the 30 minute lighthouse tour which is the one that goes out over the Hudson River and back. You have to wear a fancy pilot caps and goggles but it’s all good. They provide them. Maybe I was born too late and would have been a wing walker. Lol. Doubt it, but they did a great job and the museum and displays are informative, too. There is something for all ages here!
Wren O — Google review
Fantastic hidden gem in Dutchess County. Tons of early age of flight, WWI and WWII era aircraft. Also have an assortment of other vehicles, cars, and motorcycles from the period. It is a working aerodrome with daily flights around the Hudson in a biplane for charter. Every weekend they host an airshow with planes from the era and have a working airstrip setup for these shows. Definitely worth checking out especially for the very reasonable price they ask for museum tickets. Recommend not going when it's too hot, as the hangers are all outdoors and not air-conditioned. Went when it was about 95° and it was very hot and humid in the hangars. The staff had fans setup but going on the hottest week of the summer there was only so much that could be done. Will definitely be coming back when the weather is better and spend more time looking at the planes and reading all the history they have.
Andrew O — Google review
I enjoyed the Aerodrome and show very much. My only disappointment is that there were fewer flying WW1 planes than I remember during my last visit, which was over 10 years ago. Planes do not last forever. I took the biplane ride. It was only about 15 minutes, but the views were spectacular!
Douglas L — Google review
Spectacular setting in upstate NY. Some of the planes they fly are rebuilt originals, some are replicas. They cover the dawn of flight until the 1930s. Tons of history is there. If they have to cancel the airshow due to weather they give you a pass that never expires for you to come back. Concessions were good but as is usual at venues like this a bit pricy. You can bring your own food and drink.
Marc S — Google review
This place is a hidden treasure. Lots of WW2 planes, automobiles and motorcycles. We didn't see the airshow, but we took a ride up and down the Hudson River. It was spectacular! Highly recommended!!

This is such a lovely sanctuary for farm animals. The tours are very informative. The animals are well taken care of and loved. Everyone who works there cares so much. CAS is worth the visit. If you can’t make it in person I’d say they’re also worth a donation.
C L — Google review
I had the pleasure of visiting CAS this past weekend and it was an amazing experience. The grounds were peaceful, and the animals were calm and could tell they are so loved. Our tour guide, Alison, was fantastic—she shared detailed stories about the animals’ we met, as well as thoughtful context about the farming industry. What impressed me most was how passionate and caring the entire team is. Their love for the animals shines through in the sanctuary’s atmosphere—healthy, relaxed animals who greet visitors without fear. Even the few sheep in quarantine seemed at ease and well cared for. I highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area. It’s educational, heartwarming, and inspiring.

What a joy it was to visit the sanctuary! The love is contagious, the animals are adorable, and everybody there was very kind. We visited and booked our spots on a tour on what turned out to be a rainy day, and it made the whole experience even more special. Megan, our guide, was very knowledgeable and fun. I am eager to visit again! I highly recommend Catskill Animal Sanctuary if you're visiting or passing through the area, kids would enjoy it too. The tours are educational, entertaining, respectful of the well-being of the animals, and mindful of the safety of the guests. I'm grateful for this place!

What an amazing experience it was to visit CAS!! These residents have truly hit the jackpot and are living their very best lives here. A 36-year old horse had trouble getting up after rolling in the dirt while we were visiting. Our tour guide made a call and a team was there within less than a minute to help. This sanctuary is so so wonderful and our tour guide, Camryn, was awesome!! I finally got to hug cows!! 🐮 💕 It was an experience I won’t forget. Definitely follow, donate and visit if you can!

This was our 2nd trip with our daughter (who was just turning 4 and is now 6.5) to Catskill Animal Sanctuary. It was our 2 year old son’s first visit. Our daughter has remembered and talked about Jasmine since Oct 2022, the most wonderful pig you ever did meet, and our son squealed with excitement each time an “underfoot animal” passed by. Megan led our group tour and did a wonderful job, keeping both kids and adults engaged while educating us along the way about the individual animals we met, the mission of the sanctuary, enlightening us as to unfortunate truths we turn a blind eye to and small things we can do to help bring about change. It is a beautiful property providing food, shelter, healthcare and love to all the animals they can take in. It is such a special and personal experience for kids and adults alike, definitely worth the trip!

We went to the sanctuary on a rainy and snowy day. The weather was truly awful, but also made the experience memorable. Our tour guide is full of compassion for the animals and really knows the residents inside and out. The tour itself doesn’t feel rush. The facility is well kept and cute. All the profits will go towards the supporting the sanctuary and the farm animals that are raised there. ❤️🥹 highly recommend

Harlem Valley Rail Trail

Biking Trails
This was an easy paved walkway, all flat. Perfect for bikes, strollers, dogs, groups, and all ages. Beautiful canopy of trees above to provide shade. Absolutely gorgeous during the fall peak! The trailhead is located in the center of town, making it convenient to stop into the Harney and Sons tasting room, the diner or the coffee shop for a bite. There is a Chinese restaurant in the same area as Harneys.

9.15.24 So parking seemed a bit tricky because GPS brought us here, but signs around the parking area say it's not for rail users. We parked anyway because we did visit Oakhurst and the ice cream shop. But keep in mind that during the fall, this area will be extremely busy. As for the actual biking/walking trail, it's really perfection because it's paved, and in the 25 miles, we rode, not 1 pot hole or crack. It was smooth with just some fallen leaves. A few areas had some overgrown bushes leaning into the trail, but it won't affect your ride. The views are spectacular.
Margaret H — Google review
Beautiful rail trail near Millerton!
Andre M — Google review
The best rail trail we've done! The condition of the trail was excellent, including a newly repaved section. We did 13 1/2 miles of the trail starting in Wassaic and the trail was wide and clean. The surrounding fields and fall colors were gorgeous. There's hardly any roads nearby so it was quiet biking most of the way. As you get closer to Millerton it gets busier, but the plus side of that are the nice shops and restaurants to browse. Also, at the Wassaic end check out the nearby Vitsky bakery for a treat after riding.

The resort's staff members are known for their exceptional service, as exemplified by David at the front desk who went above and beyond to accommodate an early arrival.
Enjoyed our visits here. Had a lots of fun as a beginner. Resort has nearly everything you need. Even if you are missing equipment, you can purchase from their place. I would recommend renting the first time, the process is easy and the waiting line was managable. I would definetly recommend this place to enjoy snow with friends and family.

So I've have skiied at Hunter a few times, great place during the week. We took the chairlift ride to the top, the summit lodge is closed temporarily for a remediation of some sorts. If you don't like heights this is not the place to be. The views are always great. Make sure you wear good walking shoes. The fall is the best time to go. Enjoy your ride.

We went to Octoberfest at Hunter Mountain. It was nice. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It is a lot smaller though compared to years ago when our family would attend. The steak food truck was great! Awesome food and excellent service! Also had funnel cake, always a plus! And tried poutine for the first time. It was good. I will probably go back next year.

Place has really gone down hill ever since it has been sold to Vail. The trails have practically stayed the same for a decade with maybe one or two new trails. Hellgate is always fun but it’s the only trail that you can get real speed on. They have fun terrain parks and a nice lodge bar but otherwise it’s gone down hill. They sell overpriced tickets and practically force you to buy overpriced food. Management is a bunch of goofballs who have no idea how to run the logistics of a mountain.
JustJrmy — Google review
SkyRide up Hunter Mtn in the Fall likely better than in any other season. Helpful staff...beautiful views on a clear day...could almost see the Rockies. After 11am the indoor outdoor food vendors purvey their standard wares alongside kiddie fun rides. WORTHWHILE

I ski and live an hour away but never had been there. The line to return on the fall leaf chair lift was insanely long because they didn't encourage people to share seating.
T M — Google review
Solid ski experience for a day. Trails are somewhat limited and not too many lifts exist in this small NE mountain. The staff was very helpful and they make a point to load six skiers at a time which helps with lines. The food is typical low-quality high-price food, but the pizza is decent. I wish they improved that aspect. Overall a decent option not too far from NYC.

We did the sky rider tour yesterday ! It was hands down the most amazing day! The colors were gorgeous. Our tour guides were Brandon and Tink, and you literally should request them!!! They were energetic, enthusiastic, fun, supportive and very informative! We felt safe and comfortable the entire time! I will 100% be back! If you’ve been thinking of doing it, so it!!!! I can not wait to go again!

Just did the sky rider tour with some of my friends, and we had an absolute blast. We got to go on 5 ziplines and walk over a really cool suspension bridge. It was during peak fall foliage, so the views were absolutely stunning. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable, engaging and fun! I would highly recommend booking a tour with them if you are in the area, you won’t be disappointed.

What a fun day! We did the full 3 hour tour with Sam, Luke and Bryan who made the whole experience a lot of fun. They were great guides and clearly love their jobs. The length of the tour definitely made it worth the price! Just be prepared to use your 'abs'.

Awesome time. We did the mid mountain tour for starters but definitely want to return for the skyrider. We had a ridiculous amount of rain and ended up completely saturated but it didn't stop the fun at all. I mean if you haven't ziplined down a mountain in the pouring rain, did you even Zipline? Such a fun time and the rain made us go faster 😂 our guides Brandon and Kincaid were awesome. We had a lot of laughs and fun during our experience. Looking forward to the skyrider in the future.

The zip lining was an absolute blast today, I would 10/10 recommend everyone go and enjoy themselves! The tour guides Zack, Nate and Dustin were hysterical and fun easing everyone's nerves, and really made the experience even that much more enjoyable. Can't wait to come back again someday!

Make sure you have a way to secure your phone and stuff. I forgot this and bought a Fanny pack-type-thing for $20. First time zip lining for my girls and me but we had a blast. Group size will be about 5-10. Guides are very patient and good about getting the little ones to take their first zip when they are 50 feet in the air. They don’t get frustrated if it takes more than 5 minutes for the kids to let go.

New York Zipline Adventures skyrider tour exceeded our expectations by far! It was such an amazing and fun experience, with incredible views of the mountain range! Coming mid-October was a great idea as the fall foliage was beautiful. One of the best parts was our guides. Tink, Dustin, and Dakota were so awesome, we felt very safe and in good hands! Not only were they very knowledgeable and experienced, but all three had the best personalities and told funny stories which made sure everyone in the group had a memorable time. I definitely want to go back again, and will be absolutely requesting the same guides.

Spectacular building and very well maintained. The view from around the back of the building is breathtaking. You can see the clouds on the mountains. The designs on the walls of the buildings are beautiful. Unfortunately I was not able to get in. Only guided tours ($20 per person) were available at the time and I'm not a fan of those and prefer exploring on my own. However they did say self guided tours would be available in the summer. I was able to get a sneak peek through the window inside and it looks great. The surrounding area was also very well maintained and clean. The gift shop also has some nice items

Really cool state park. We were pleasantly surprised to find that there are no day use fees like for most NY state parks. You can walk the extensive trails and grounds for free. Taking tours of the interior of the historic house is $20/person, which we did not do. We took a trail with several beautiful overlooks over the surrounding area, including with one that looks across the Hudson River in almost direct alignment with the Rip van Winkle bridge towards the town of Catskill and the imposing Catskill Mountains. The outside of the house was very unique and cool with its Arabesque design. Everything was very modern and up to date, probably thanks to public and private funding.

This is must see for anyone interested in the Hudson River School. The park is wonderful for hiking - I walked the trail by the lake from the visitor center to the mansion. The mansion was built by the American painter Frederic Church in the 1800s and is filled with original objects and some of his smaller paintings. Incredible views of the Hudson river from the house are added plus. Tour guide was very knowledgeable. Add this to your bucket list.

We loved our visit, next time we'll take the house tour. The grounds, gardens and views are impressive. We enjoyed learning more about Frederic Church and his travels. The architecture of the house is cool. Plenty of walking trails and picnic spots.

This may be my favorite historic house tour I’ve taken in the US. The house has its original finishes and furnishings and is amazing in itself. The views are next level. Seeing something so complete and so particularly thought out that was created by an artist and reflects things he loved and places he went was special. If you’re in the area, go. The staff are also really fantastic. Totally exceeded expectations.

Absolutely breathtaking! Couldn’t recommend this visit enough. We visited on a Sunday when they just opened, and it wasn’t busy at all. The staff are also so kind, helpful, informative and obviously passionate about Olana. The self-guided tour was perfect. They still have staff in every room, and they love answering all of the questions. Optimize your visit and take time to mosey the grounds and see the incredible view on Ridge Road!

Did the afternoon “explore on your own” style tour. This was perfect for our group! We could stay longer in rooms that interested us and there were knowledgeable interpreters in every room to answer questions. You could tell the place is well preserved and they are doing a lot of work to keep the land around the house as he intended. Parking is a bit limited at the top near the house but we got lucky! Keep that in mind on busier days.

Thomas Cole National Historic Site

Sights & Landmarks
Home of a 19th-century artist & art school, with period landscape paintings & mountain views.
I arrived here 5 minutes after they closed. Considering I also came back when they were open to collect my National Park Passport Cancellation Stamp, I prefer my timing. This was awesome to explore, and I had the grounds to myself. I found the staff to be helpful but they were a bit cold. Typical for an Art Gallery, not so much for a National Park. I don't know if you'd have all that much better of a time if you bought a ticket to tour the houses and out buildings. The true treasure is the property and landscape, which was the focus of Thomas Cole's Landscape Art.

The Thomas Cole House in Hudson is a truly beautiful and inspiring place, and absolutely not to be missed. As the former home and studio of the founder of the Hudson River School, it offers a unique glimpse into both the man’s life and the artistic movement he helped shape. The house itself is exquisitely preserved, the surrounding gardens are serene, and the views of the Catskills feel like stepping right into one of Cole’s paintings. The bookshop is a gem in its own right — thoughtfully curated with art books, local history, and unique gifts you won’t find elsewhere. The staff inside are warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic, adding an extra layer of charm to the experience. They’re more than happy to share insights or help you find just the right memento to take home, making the visit feel even more special.

Came here on Yom Kipur 2025. Somewhat surprised that it was open during government shutdown, but being an affiliated NPS site as opposed to full on NPS site is why I am sure. Fabulous place. Came here like 9 years ago as well. They added a visitor center since I was here last. The setting was incredible. Nice but somewhat limited view of the Hudson River Valley. The house was amazing, very well maintained with lots of original and replicas of his paintings. If you are a fan of the arts, Thomas Cole, or American artists, feel like you would enjoy this. I like all of those well enough and enjoyed it. Parking was tight when we came due to the Jewish Temple plus Yom Kipur. Visitor center has a gift shop and nice bathrooms.

Thomas Cole was an amazing landscape artist his paintings are filled with talent. I recommend to everyone to plan ahead and visit this beautiful place. Anyone of his paintings you can stare at to want to just fall in to it. Absolutely exquisite work. You won't be disappointed.

Really enjoyed learning more about Thomas Cole and his daughter Emily Cole. The display of her botanical paintings and ceramic painting was beautiful! The self-guided tour is 45 minutes, the house is not overly large and a good 25 people were in the first tour at 11. Definitely too many people to properly view everything as we were bumping into each other. Otherwise, it is a worthwhile experience! I would encourage also visiting Olana,as Frederick Church was one of Thomas Cole's students early on.

This wonderful house is near a town called leeds about 7min drive. Thomas cole was a painter and the history of this house correlates with his art and family . The tour guide was knowledgeable. It's a treat highly recommended. My wife and I visited this house and had a great experience.

The Thomas Cole National Historic Site is a great place to visit! Thomas Cole was the founder of the Hudson River School of Art. He was one of America's first great artists. The house is historically restored and displays artifacts that Cole and/or his family used. Most of the paintings displayed in the house are re-creations of Cole's works. The views of the Catskill mountains are very nice. The tour was very good and the guide knew a great deal about the house and Thomas Cole. The movie at the beginning of the tour was a nice touch. We were also allowed to explore and look around on the tour, after the guide explained each part of the house. The tour was about an hour. The Cole House also serves as a small art museum. If you go to Thomas Cole's studio, you can see works from other artists. The house itself also displayed some contemporary works, that were mixed in with Cole's works. The contemporary work was good, but some of it didn't really fit the historical theme of the house. You get a lot for your ticket here. A house tour, Thomas Cole's works, contemporary artworks, and a small gallery of art exhibitions. You can also walk to the nearby Hudson River Skywalk and Rip Van Winkle bridge. Olana state historic site is also only three miles away. The gift shop offered much at reasonable prices. This place is definitely worth a look.

I've been meaning to come here for forever and was not disappointed! Our docent was very knowledgeable and did a great job of describing Thomas Cole's life and works. I enjoyed learning about Cole's desire to protect wilderness. Marc Swanson's exhibition, A Memorial To Ice at the Dead Deer Disco was on display while we were there. I enjoyed his work immensely! Oh, and that had a piece but one of my favorite artists, Mark Dion, too! That made my heart happy.

The Norman Rockwell Museum, located in Stockbridge, is a must-see attraction for art enthusiasts and history buffs. The museum showcases a significant collection of the artist's original work and memorabilia in his hometown. Visitors can explore the museum's permanent and changing exhibitions featuring Rockwell's iconic paintings, sketches, and photographs, as well as works by other renowned illustrators.
I just visited the museum and like to say it was a beautiful experience for me and my wife. We were even able to pick apples at the Rockwell apple grove, that was one of the things on our bucket list. The whole museum and grounds are well worth the visit. I never expected to see all these amazing paintings and structures on the grounds. The building where he lived in and did his paintings, that is a must visit and is worth the price. So don’t miss that if you visit the site.if you new to artworks like me, then it would be and educational experience for you. Enjoy 😉

A visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum is an experience not to be missed. The grounds and buildings are very well-kept. Rockwell was an incredible artist, and seeing so many of his magazine covers and other artworks was a delight. He was a true master of capturing the human spirit. We also had the pleasure to see an exhibit of Walter Wick's Hidden Wonders, and some great sculptures on the grounds.

Great place to visit when you are in Berkshire, Massachusetts. It has big collections of his painting about all American life in his periods. He was a great portrait painter too. His last painting was in 1963 at the end of that year for Saturday Evening post of New York with the portrait of JFK who was assassinated in November of 1963 the estate is quite large with pastoral feel. Anyway I learned it elsewhere that his life was not as happy as he portray in his paintings because if the painting was not happy one the journal with rejected it. So the paintings were the projections of the life he wish he had. His real life was that of unhappy, insecure and sad and depression somewhere in between. I do enjoy this museum. It was my second visit here. The last time was nearly 10 years ago.

We were on a short driving tour of the Berkshires and we stayed in Lenox as a base. Each day, we drove out to see various historic sites like the gilded age mansions and of course the Rockwell Museum. Due to our schedule, we had to visit on the day the museum is closed to the public. So we parked and walked all around the grounds around the main building and down to his studio. Lots of outdoor sculptures to look at as we walked around.

9//25 - Part of our NE bus tour, this stop was full of nostalgia as I remember many of his paintings. The down stairs displayed all hi post covers & had an interesting movie about his life . Upstairs features many of his original paintings. The tour of his studio was included in our tour, not necessary unless your a big fan. If your from near or far, it's worth a visit.

They don't give any real information about Norman's life in Arlington VT. He had 2 homes in VT. One he accidentally burnt down. The second, Rockwell's Retreat, is right down the road. It has been lovingly restored including his studio which, with the help and love of Arlington people who knew Norman and were his models, gave the new owners so much insight that it is truly like walking into the studio and expecting to see Norman. Don't stop just at the museum in Stockbridge, go up 7A highway to Rockwell's Retreat in Arlington VT. If you love Norman's work, then you can't leave out the years of his life in Arlington.

Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is a must-visit destination for music enthusiasts. The venue offers a magical blend of classical, jazz, and popular music against the backdrop of nature's sounds. Visitors can enjoy gourmet picnics on the rolling lawn while listening to concerts with grand acoustics. Additionally, Lenox is known for its outdoor spaces and as the host town for the Tanglewood Music Festival.
Wow, such a beautiful place with world-class music and amazing scenery. I love their lawn pass, which allows us to do picnic while listening to the music. Their grass is so well maintained that I walked around with bare feet and my feet were still clean. Definitely coming again!

Heavenly retreat with superb facilities for outdoor listening pleasure. Lustrous grounds, with areas for picnicking, and a dynamite schedule that features a diversity of musical styles, primarily performed by Boston Symphony Orchestra or Boston Pops. Local famous artists (James Taylor, Yo-Yo Ma), and visiting artists come here during the summer. Food options are OK; best to bring your own food if you plan to picnic.

The Lawn at Tanglewood is the best place to be! Plan ahead, pack a picnic: Blanket, folding chairs, small table, wireless lamp or candles, ice bucket, food 🥖 🥐 🧀, wine 🍷, and thou. We were here again to see the soulful, heartfelt, best female guitarist and keyboard performer, beautiful Bonnie Raitt, after 4 years when we first saw her after the pandemic. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🎸 🥁 🎹 🎼 🎶 🎙️ 🎼🎶
Cam E — Google review
Loved walking around prior to the concert, plenty of space for blankets and chairs, you can only drink alcohol in your designated seating area. Bug spray would have been smart, we got an Uber from town which saved us the long line of traffic into the parking lot, but staff in parking could not agree on where ride share drop-off was (each stop point had to ask the next stop point). The verdict was "limo drop-off" would be the best thing to say because it drops you near the gates.
Mistie C — Google review
Anyone in area that can make it should really make an effort to try and go and see a concert at Tanglewood Was really an incredible experience for the price ($35). People bring legit tables and outdoor feasts with friends and family to enjoy music Something you need to experience to get Sound no matter how far you were from the stage was crystal clear Would suggest coming a few hours early as there's a lot to see around the venue but also because parking is crazy and so is the seating on the lawn. Good to grab an area and parking spot
Robert B — Google review
Great venue for a concert. And the Lenox locals know how to party in the lawn seats. Charcuterie boards and all kinds of fancy spreads. Amazing! There's also great stands with BBQ, fried foods, quick self serve snacks and ice cream. It's easy to exit with West and East parking and great attendants.

Woah 😳! There was so much to explore! I had a pleasant time exploring the grounds before the show and during intermission. A great 👍 place to view a sunset! Oh, it is a good place to see 🙈 a live show. I like the partial maze in the garden area. You will not see Jack Nicholson yelling "Danny!" while carrying an ax! At least I hope you don't! Redrum! 🤫 Shh! The sundial, Whispering Bench, sculptures , the interesting looking houses and even a few of the trees. I was surprised I was not bothered by any 🐝 insects, especially 🦟 mosquitoes. The Koussevitzky Music 🎶 Shed, not the Author "Two Sheds" Jackson, was a good place to watch a performance. Large screens helped people who were further back 🔙 and on the lawn watch the show. The shed can get warm 🥵 on a hot night. They could use some fans to circulate the air inside. The lighting and acoustics were good. The food at the cafeteria was okay but overpriced. They did run out of items on the menu. Security did not hassle myself or anyone I observed. They will check ✔️ bags before you enter. I had no issues with parking 🅿️. There is plenty of parking 🅿️ available and it is free 🆓. There are a lot of bathrooms and a few porta potties. The bathrooms I used were in good condition. They do sell beer 🍺 here. Wheelchairs ♿ are provided for guests. One lady I chatted with actually had on delivered to her at the cafeteria. I came to see "A Prairie Home Companion" and I enjoyed watching it. I do not remember them swearing 🤬 as much at being overly political. I am going to recommend a visit. I may visit again depending on who is playing. It was a long drive for me.

Thacher State Park

Wooded state park along cliffs offering trails, camping, rock climbing, sports & playgrounds.
Nice huge park with lots of picnic area and restrooms. Well maintained lawn and hiking trails. Overlook area is on the way to visitor center. A few playgrounds including mini zip-lining for children. Ice cream truck also presents on the weekends. It can get very crowded but there are plenty of space except if you want to use grill and picnic area then reservation ahead of time is highly recommended

We love Thatchers! The hike itself is not very long and is family-friendly. Beautiful views. The day we went there was a pizza food truck and Italian Ice truck as well. The main building has bathrooms and activity for kids. They even have a slide outside for kids to play.
Melissa H — Google review
Intro: From my previous review, I made it obvious I am looking for a view when I go on my walks/hikes, and I found the perfect park for that. This park is pretty much a cliff with a path going along the edge of it, very hard not to have a great view! Entrance: Now here's a park that is VERY accessible, they have several parking spots along the entirety of the cliff, with multiple entry points along a main road. The signs aren't that big, but they are visible and clean. Parking: Paved and painted parking, very well maintained, and due to the fact there is parking scattered along the entire cliff, plenty of parking. The only thing I'm not sure about is the parking fee. There was a 6$ fee at the parking near the Visitor Center and the Horseshoe section, there being a booth at the entrance of those places. I didn't check all the other parking spots along the cliff, so I do not know if that fee applies to all of them. Facilities: Quite a bit, actually. I went directly to the Visitor Center, it's a hub for educational info and a small concession stand. Since I am trying to collect lapel/enamel pins of every location I go to, I did ask for one at the concession, and they did have one. They don't display the pins, so if you are looking for one, make sure to ask! Looks like even part of the Center was rentable, since they were setting up some kind of event there when I was leaving. All along the various parking spots and trail there were pavilions and picnic shelters, which looks rentable as well. There were even several bathroom buildings as well, very well maintained. Trails and other Features: The highlight was definitely the trail, goes alongside the cliff face and offers plenty of opportunities to overlook the valley below. The trail itself is very easy, mostly clear flat paths, minimum exposed roots. However, you don't need to hike to visit various spots, like the Overlook, with parking right at it. There is a more challenging path, the Indian Ladder, but not by much, just a bunch of steps. It goes on for about half a mile, connecting between the Visitor Center and the La Grange Bush sections. You walk along the base of the rock face of the cliff, about halfway down, but the only hard part is the steep steps at the beginning and end. There is a small fall, but it dried up due to switching to underground streams, you can still see it during Spring melts and after heavy rainfall. There are rick climbing sections elsewhere, but I didn't check them out. Final Word: I highly recommend this park! The fact that the hiking is optional to get to some of the better places makes this park very accessible to everyone. For the effort needed, the view cannot be beat!
Balgerus — Google review
Thacher State Park was my target drive from Catskills area, and it didn’t disappoint. Modern visitor center with ample parking lot is also closest location to Indian Ladder Trail (must see since it is the main highlight of the park). Helderberg Escarpment formation is recognized as National Natural Landmark. Waterfalls weren’t impressive at the time of my visit, but both cliff base and cliff top paths are really picturesque and photogenic regardless of season of the year and rainfall. Multiple picnic areas are located along the main park road and near the Overlook parking lot.

My family and I loved staying here. Our apartment was very spacious, with beautiful views. The grounds were well kept and clean. Neighbors were polite and quiet. The staff were all very nice and helpful. We had two choices of restaurants nearby to eat with reasonable prices and the price for a family of 5 weekend stay in June was very good. We plan to return.

Giving a 3 star. Desk receptionist was very friendly informative and professional I liked her a lot. Going to the rooms the hallway sticks and walking into our room smelled of really odd chemicals very strong! The water fosset sprays everywhere. The doors are horrible! You have to slam them to shut the don't close or open with out some force. The property is really nice all outside is cool nice size fun stuff to do. We won't stay over again but may just do the adventure parks.

An absolutely beautiful resort! I couldn't have felt more at home. Really shows the difference between a family owned operation & the commercially owned resorts. Beautiful terrain, accommodation & snowmaking. One of my absolute favorite places after 26yrs of making snow. Everybody cares a little more than they need too, which says volumes. Always striving for improvement🏆

My partner and I did a long-term (4 months) stay in a room in The CountryInn. Overall, the resort is good. It's in a beautiful part of the state, though it is a bit remote/secluded (e.g., it takes 25 minutes to get to a full grocery store). The staff were helpful, and there are several amenities for entertainment and practicality. The building is generally clean, and they were doing many renovations during our stay, as the building is old and they care to upkeep it. The walls are thin and it's easy to hear people in the hallway, in the rooms next to you and above you.

Reviewing here as both a hotel and ski slope. I’ve stayed in the rooms a number of times, including when we rented out many for a wedding, and have always been satisfied. Service is good and rooms are standard. In terms of skiing, it’s in a super convenient location for Williams students. However, the trails are usually pretty icy, so make sure to check the conditions and try to go when there’s been a recent snowfall. Pretty small number of trails. I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to plan a ski trip here, but if you’re in the area, it’s nice to have a place to ski like Jiminy.

Excellent location. Didn't have to leave the resort for anything except site seeing. Very clean facility including the outdoor pool and hot tub. Inside hot tub was down for maintenance. The only other negative was the express chair lift that runs to the top of the mountain was not running and that was one of the reasons we chose Jiminy Peak. The room was very accommodating there was a stove, fridge, microwave, toaster, blender pots, pans dishes, keurig, coffe pot, coffee, tea, extra toiletries galore. Very nice stay over all.

The USS SLATER is a museum located in the U.S. that offers tours of the last remaining WWII-era destroyer escort ship still afloat in the country. Visitors can explore various areas of the ship including the galley, guns, and quarters. The knowledgeable and informative guides provide insight into what life may have been like during active service on board. Unlike other boat museum ships, visitors are able to sit on and move the ship's guns around for a more interactive experience.
This was a great experience. My husband is a big history buff and he loved it. My kids 9, 3 and 1 did well with it, the two older even enjoyed it, though it may not be every kids cup of tea. My husband wants to go back to do a longer tour when our oldest is able to go along. The tour guide was very informative, really cool piece of reserved U.S. history.

Great place to visit, very informative and tons of tourists options to meet your needs (physical/time/interest). Staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly enjoy their job. Riaf (sp?) was awesome! Found this through a Google search of "things to do with kids in Albany" and was very happy that I did. Albany was the half-way point on a road trip from Boston for my 8YO son, 72YO dad, and me. Definitely recommend! Was right off the highway, 30min tour allowed us to stretch our legs but not be detoured too long for arriving at our final destination. There is free parking and also a picnic area to enjoy sitting and watching the river.

Visiting the USS Slater was an absolutely incredible experience! This was the first warship we have ever had the chance to explore, and it completely exceeded our expectations. From the moment we stepped aboard, we were transported back in time and given a vivid sense of what life was like for those who served on this historic vessel. Our tour guide was phenomenal and extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about sharing the ship’s history. Every story, every detail, and every corner of the ship came alive through their explanations. The restoration work on the USS Slater is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s clear that countless hours of dedication and care went into preserving every detail, from the machinery to the living quarters, and it’s inspiring to see history kept alive so meticulously. We took the full bow-to-stern tour, which allowed us to see every aspect of the ship, from the operational areas to the crew quarters. It was fascinating to witness how this ship functioned during its active service. What made the experience even more special was the combination of history, hands-on exploration, and personal storytelling. You really gain a deep appreciation for the challenges, bravery, and daily life of those who served aboard. The USS Slater isn’t just a museum, it’s a living piece of history that gives visitors an unforgettable, immersive experience. We walked away not only educated but truly inspired, and it’s a memory we will cherish forever. This is absolutely a must do for anyone visiting the area, whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply looking for a unique and meaningful adventure!

This has been something I've wanted to experience for a while. While I was not able to go aboard. I did really appreciate the staff they were very helpful and upfront with answering my questions about the accessibility of the ship. I could of gotten aboard with my wheelchair but I would not have been able to do much more than just that. The visitor center & gift shop are completely accessible. And they have a very nice observation deck with interpretive signage. I could fully see every part of the ship. I couldn't really get a good photo of the USS Slater in it's entirety. 🫡🇺🇸

My son and I had a fantastic tour given by Art who is a very informative and enthusiastic guide. It was amazing to see a war ship so well cared for and preserved. Art shared an abundance of insight into the working of the ship and the men who served on it. He provided information you don't read about in books such as why the cook may ask if you are right or left handed during rough weather or why the officers preferred the top bunks. My son will be talking about the tour for a very long time. I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Nestled at the southern end of Albany's Empire State Plaza, the New York State Museum stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of New York's natural and cultural history. Established in 1836, it proudly holds the title of being the oldest and largest state museum in America. Visitors can explore over 100,000 square feet dedicated to diverse exhibitions that delve into topics ranging from Native American heritage to Adirondack wilderness and even artifacts from 9/11.
I love the carousel ride on the 4th floor. Open from 11am to 4pm, except Mondays (closed). The ride is available every half hour, so arrive a few minutes early. It is worth the wait.... loved it. The 9/11 remembrance section is very poignant and brings back memories from that time.

I have visited this museum on several occasions. About 3 and enjoyed it every time. I visited by myself and twice with my wife. The first was just out of curiosity. My wife's family lives in Albany so while renting a airbnb we stopped by this museum. No long lines but inside there were a great deal of people. There is a sesame place exhibit and a African American exhibit detailing life throughout the 20th century. There is also a 911 exhibit that is hard to watch with actual fire trucks from the attacks damaged and all. I didn't realize this museum existed. I don't believe I finished the exploration after 3 times .it's free and worth the trip.

This museum has exhibits about natural history as well as the Metropolitan. I only visited the part about the metropolis. Most of the displays are old items brought from New York City, such as antique fire trucks and decorative pieces taken from demolished buildings. The layout isn’t very well organized, and the flow feels a bit confusing.

A visit to the NY State Museum instills a sense of awe and respect for history and diversity of NY. Kid-friendly and free, this museum has something for everyone. Highlights include exhibits on indigenous people, migrants arriving at Ellis Island, African Americans and Harlem, and the tragedy of 9/11. The museum can benefit from updates and more interactive features. Don’t forget to ride the classic carousel on the 4th floor and rekindle your inner child.

The building boasts intricate architectural details both inside and out, including features reminiscent of a French chateau. Free tours are available on weekdays, providing visitors with an opportunity to appreciate the beauty and grandeur of this majestic structure.
Paid street parking is available. If you park on State Street, it is easy to get to the State Capitol building and to the I Love NY letters The building is an absolute masterpiece of late 19th-century architecture, with a stunning blend of Romanesque and Renaissance styles. It's truly a sight to behold, both inside and out. The intricate stone carvings and the grand staircases are particularly impressive—the "Million Dollar Staircase" is wonderful and feels like something out of a fantasy novel.

Must see. The three massive, intricately carved interior stone staircases alone are worth the free admission and your time, now with restored skylights admitting gorgeous natural light. Don’t miss the Hall of New York paintings gallery or resplendent assembly chamber with its stained glass windows and carved coffered ceiling.

Absolutely incredible. We have been to almost every capitol building in the US and this one is my favorite! Wish we could have done the tour. Simply stunning architecture and so much variety. Great exhibits inside. Street parking was relatively inexpensive.

Of all the 35 or so state capitols I have seen, this is probably the best. The scale and architecture of the place is amazing. Came on a Saturday during a pass through of the area, so didn't get to see the inside, which I am sure is fabulous. I am sure parking on a weekday not fun. I will definitely be back to tour the inside.

This Capitol is amazingly beautiful. If you happen to be in the area it is 100% worth the visit. They offer free tours, and Amy did a great job today.

My best tip: take the FREE hour-long tour. The friendly, knowledgeable guide (ours was Lorraine) will take you to areas you may not be able to access on your own, all the while providing interesting facts that will truly enhance your appreciation of the history and architecture of this landmark. Tours are at 10, noon and 2.
