The Thangassery Light House, also known as the Tangasseri Light House, is a historic beacon dating back to 1902. Standing at 41 meters tall, it is the second tallest lighthouse on the Kerala coast and a popular attraction in the region. The tower features distinctive red and white spiral stripes and offers visitors the option to ascend via an elevator or stairs to enjoy panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and surrounding landscape.
One of the famous tourist spots and landmarks in Kollam. The scenic beauty of Thankassery and the entire coastal region makes you mesmerized. We recently visited here on a working day and went around 11 am. It's a good experience and not very crowded. Even though it's noon, there is so much cool atmosphere at the top but you should go for evening time, it's pretty more good. The staff service is good, and they always maintain the premises. I think you can spend a decent amount of time here without any boredom. There are stairs and a lift available. If you have any health issues, then you should definitely go for the lift option because climbing too many steps makes you suffocate. They are charging an entry fee of र20 for adults, र10 for children(3-12) and senior citizens and र50 for foreign citizens. There is an extra fee of र10 for taking photos. You have to keep the footwear outside before entering the lighthouse & kindly remember that Monday is a holiday here. There is a children's park in the compound. There are washroom facilities provided in the corner.
ANANTHU B — Google review
One of the oldest lighthouses in Kerala, it holds history from the time of the British East India Company. Both an elevator and stairs are available to reach the top. The view from the top is worth the journey and ticket amount of 20rs.😀
Vaisakh S — Google review
Worth a stop on the way up north to Alappuzha for only 20rpi. Worth noting there is a ticket office for the fun park , so make sure you go up the road to the actual light house entry gate. Founded in 1902 this is one of two lighthouses in the Kollam area. After to begin showing cracking in 1930, this lighthouse was strengthened by A.N Seal in 1940. This 120+ year old light house will provide stunning views over Kollam and the Indian Ocean
James M — Google review
Amazing place with a breathtaking view. It’s the second tallest lighthouse in Kerala, and a lift facility is also available for visitors. The surrounding landscape is also very beautiful. It’s just a quick 10-minute walk from Tangy bus stop, or you can easily take an auto. A must-visit spot in Kollam

A Historic place in kollam. Well maintained renovated lighthouse. Evening view is mesmerizing. They are charging an entry fee of र20 for adults, र10 for children(3-12) and senior citizens and र50 for foreign citizens. There is an extra fee of र10 for taking photos. You have to keep the footwear outside before entering the lighthouse. Monday is a holiday. There is a children's park in the compound And a small refreshment shop there. Unofficial parking fee is too high that's collected by a lady whose home is near to the lighthouse.
Prasanth R — Google review
What a beautiful light house it is, with a lift inside to make our effort of walk easy to reach the top. Beautiful view of the whole thamarassery area and kollam. 20rs is the admission fee for one person and 10 extra for using the camera. 10min is allowed maximum if there is rush to spend on the top. Otherwise 10-15 is maximum allowed. Try to take the stairs instead of lift, if you want to burn some calories😜
Arun R — Google review
Awesome views from the top and yes there is an elevator so we has to climb only a few stairs ! The sunset view would be spectacular but it closes at 6 pm .However the walking path also gives a great view .
Sudeshna M — Google review
The view and the feel up top is nothing like you ever seen. Do visit the top they also has elevator installed. You still have to climb some stairs though.

Varkala Beach is quite overrated and usually very crowded. Most of the time, access to the beach was restricted, so we could only watch the sunset. However, the sunset view itself is truly mesmerizing. The beach is easily accessible, with plenty of buses running on this route from the railway station. There are also several nearby beaches that are less crowded and have fresher water.

Varkala Cliff is a stunning natural wonder that showcases unique red sandstone formations along the Arabian Sea. Stretching from Black Beach to Papanasam Beach, this picturesque cliff is not just about breathtaking views; it’s also home to a vibrant market filled with restaurants, cafes, and boutiques offering traditional South Indian attire and souvenirs. The atmosphere here is lively, making it hard to leave once you’ve indulged in delicious vegetarian dishes or fresh seafood.
One of the best tourist attractions of south india and the one which you get never bored of. Excellent views. Lots of food spots in the cliff and watchout for the prices though. Highly recommended especially during monsoon.
Rajeev R — Google review
Varkala Cliff has such a calming vibe 🌊✨ The moody weather, cool winds, and light rain made the place feel even more magical. Sitting by the cliff, watching the waves crash and the clouds move — it’s pure peace. A perfect spot to slow down and just breathe.
Prajeesh — Google review
Varkala Cliff is one of the most beautiful and relaxing places you can visit in Kerala. The view from the cliff is absolutely stunning — the Arabian Sea stretches endlessly, and watching the sunset from the edge of the cliff is a magical experience. The whole area has a calm, laid-back vibe that makes it perfect for unwinding and spending time close to nature. The cliff is lined with cafes, restaurants, and small shops, offering everything from fresh seafood to continental dishes and souvenirs. You can walk along the stretch, stop for a coffee or a meal with a sea view, and enjoy the cool breeze throughout the day. It’s also quite safe and well-maintained, with easy access to the beach below through steps. The combination of beach, food, and beautiful views makes it a must-visit spot for tourists, couples, and backpackers alike. Overall, Varkala Cliff is a perfect destination if you love scenic views, good food, and a peaceful atmosphere. Whether you visit for a day or stay nearby, it’s an experience you’ll definitely remember!
Naresh D — Google review
Varkala Cliff is an amazing place to unwind and enjoy nature at its best. The view of the Arabian Sea from the cliff is absolutely breathtaking, especially during sunset. The entire stretch is vibrant with cafés, restaurants, and shops, yet it still feels peaceful and relaxing. The walk along the cliffside is refreshing, with cool sea breeze and stunning scenery all around. Whether you’re there for food, shopping, or just to sit and watch the waves, Varkala Cliff offers a wonderful experience. A must-visit spot
Dileep D — Google review
One of the most beautiful coastal spots in Kerala and truly a must-visit place for anyone who loves the sea. The view from the cliff is absolutely stunning — endless blue waters, golden sunsets, and the sound of waves crashing below. The cliffside path is lined with cozy cafés, restaurants, and small shops selling souvenirs, clothes, and handicrafts, which make it a lively and relaxing place to spend your day. Evenings are especially magical here — the entire place lights up with a calm, breezy vibe. You can sit at a café, enjoy a cup of coffee or seafood meal, and just watch the sun slowly dip into the Arabian Sea. It’s peaceful yet full of life. However, during high tides, parts of the beach below get washed away, and access can be limited. The lifeguards are always alert and guide tourists well, ensuring safety for everyone. The cliff area is also well-maintained and has several homestays and resorts with sea-view rooms. It’s an ideal place for solo travelers, couples, and photographers.
DHANUSH M — Google review
Varkala is truly a hidden gem on the coast of Kerala — a perfect blend of natural beauty, peace, and good vibes. The beach, with its golden sands and turquoise waters, is framed by the stunning red cliffs that make the place absolutely unique. Watching the sunset from the cliff is an experience you’ll never forget — the sky turns into shades of orange, pink, and purple that look straight out of a painting. What makes Varkala even more special are its people. Everyone I met — from the local shop owners to the café staff and even the fishermen — was warm, welcoming, and full of smiles. They genuinely make you feel at home and add so much heart to the whole experience. The cliffside cafés and small shops create a relaxed, bohemian vibe — perfect for travelers, backpackers, and anyone looking to slow down and reconnect with nature. Whether you want yoga, fresh seafood, Ayurvedic massages, or just a quiet moment by the sea, Varkala offers it all. Varkala is not just a place — it’s a feeling. The cliffs, the waves, and the people together make it one of the most soulful destinations in India. Highly recommended for anyone looking for peace, beauty, and kindness.
Fakru F — Google review
Varkala Cliff is one of the best places I’ve visited. The views are insane, the vibe is calm, and the cliffside cafés make the whole experience great. Perfect for a relaxed walk or just chilling by the sea. The best time to visit is definitely evening and night when the place feels the most alive.
Bibin P — Google review
LOVE THE PLACE. I love visiting this place every now and then—the whole place issa vibe. Everything you need is on the cliff, from food to clothes to antiques, you name it. I bought a bunch of antique stuff on my last visit. There are honestly so many shops selling antiques, jewellery, clothes, and all kinds of random things. But here’s a tip: don’t jump at the first price they tell you. You can usually bargain and get things for a much better deal. Also, the same item might be in a bunch of different shops, so take a walk around before buying anything. There are so many—literally so many—cafés and restaurants up there. But don’t just go with the Instagram hype. Do a bit of research or explore on your own, because there are a lot of great spots apart from the usual “Instagram-approved” places. A coffee while taking in a glimpse of the beach, or sipping a cocktail with the sea view, is a must if you ask me. The views from the cliff are just stunning, especially during sunset when the sky goes crazy with colours. It does get crowded in the eve. People chilling, music playing from cafés, and the sea breeze it all feels perfect. If you’re in Varkala, the cliff is definitely a must-visit.

One of the divine and nearest temple in varkala. Also 2000years old. At the temple entrance, small pond is available. The water is refreshing, & even spotted a little turtle. The temple was neat, clean, and maintained with care. While it looked like many other traditional temples as well. It was quite hot during my visit, For Gents - The shirts and inner baniyan to be removed due to temple customs. The god looked unique from others. It was an pleasant moment but it stayed out for more than half an hour because of prasadham offering for the god.

Incredible ❤️😍. So different from other temples and so beautiful. A must visit of Varkala. Some of highlights - - Vishnu Ji Murti is so beautiful and different - the number of diyas lit in the evening are just amazing - and to top it up there is Gajraj ji (elephant) in the temple complex 😍. Few tips - Try to go in night around 6:30 as diyas are lit that time , you can also help in that - In Mandir main compex you have to remove the shirt /tshirt

We recently visited this temple and had a very peaceful experience. There’s also a pond near the temple, which adds to the calm and serene atmosphere. One important thing to note is that boys need to remove their shirts during darshan, as it’s a mandatory tradition here.

Before entering the temple, I spent a few quiet moments at the temple pond right in front of the entrance. The water felt refreshing, and I even spotted a little turtle,it was such a calming start to the visit. The temple itself was neat, clean, and maintained with care. While it looked like many other traditional temples, there was a special peaceful vibe that I really felt. It was quite hot during my visit, and I was wearing a hat. A lady told me to remove it,possibly due to temple customs.

NO STARS! Although the temple space is beautiful I could not enjoy it because I could not get over the animal torture that is going on here! They are holding an innocent elephant captive! She is 52 years old and suffering. 😭😭

f you’re visiting Kerala around August or September, make sure to visit the Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple. You can witness the Aranmula Paliyoda Kazhcha, where beautifully decorated Palliyodams (snake boats) are offered at the temple. The highlight is the Aranmula Boat Race on the Pampa River, a stunning sight when several Palliyodams move in rhythm. When I visited, there were 3–4 boats performing together, not the race though, and it was truly magnificent. The celebration ends with the Vallasadya, a grand vegetarian feast of more than 60 dishes served on banana leaves. Don’t miss seeking the blessings of Lord Parthasarathy and enjoying this unique cultural experience. You may need to book your tickets for the Valla Sadya ahead.

Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple is one of the most divine and culturally rich temples I have ever visited. Situated on the banks of the holy Pamba river, the temple has a unique charm and spiritual energy that instantly fills your mind with peace. The ancient architecture, the traditional rituals, and the serene surroundings make it a very special place to visit. I was very lucky to witness the arrival of the snake boats (Palliyodams) during the festive season. The sight of beautifully decorated boats gliding through the Pamba, with hundreds of oarsmen rowing in perfect rhythm, is simply unforgettable. The powerful and soulful Vanchippattu (boat songs) sung by the rowers created an electrifying atmosphere and gave me goosebumps. It felt like stepping into a living tradition that has been carried forward for centuries. Another highlight of the temple is the famous Vallasadya – a grand feast offered to Lord Parthasarathy and served to devotees. Sitting with hundreds of people and being served dozens of traditional Kerala dishes in a devotional atmosphere is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s not just about food; it’s about culture, devotion, and togetherness. Overall, my visit to Aranmula was unforgettable – a perfect blend of spirituality, tradition, and culture. A must-visit place for anyone who wants to experience the true essence of Kerala.

Magic Planet is a vibrant theme park dedicated to the world of magic, featuring street performances, aerialists, and a museum. Located in the Kinfra Film and Video Park, this innovative 75-acre complex offers an array of attractions such as an underground tunnel, mirror maze, shadow plays, virtual supermarket for mathematical skills development, children's park, food court, live performance theaters, and a research and development center.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Magic Planet, and I must say, it was an enchanting experience from start to finish! The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by the warm, smiling faces of the staff who truly made me feel welcome (special mention to Miss Shamna) The cleanliness of the facility was impressive. It’s clear that they prioritize not just the fun experiences, but also the safety and comfort of their guests. The variety of shows offered is fantastic, catering to all age groups and interests. Whether you're a fan of magic, acrobatics, or theatrical performances, there's something for everyone. I particularly enjoyed the interactive elements of the show, which made it feel personal and engaging. What really stood out to me was Magic Planet's commitment to giving back to the community. I learned about their various charity initiatives, and it warmed my heart to see a business that not only focuses on entertainment but also on making a positive impact in the lives of others. Their efforts to support local charities and engage with the community truly set them apart. Overall, my experience at Magic Planet was magical in every sense of the word. From the friendly staff to the immaculate surroundings and their charitable endeavors, I left feeling uplifted and inspired. I highly recommend visiting Magic Planet for a day of fun and joy—it's a place where smiles are contagious, and the magic is real!

Magic Planet truly lives up to its name, offering a magical experience for all ages. It’s a brilliant realization of the inspiring vision of the great magician, Sri Gopinath Muthukad. Hats off to his dedication in empowering gifted children, helping them become self-reliant and financially independent by bringing them into the spotlight. What stood out the most was the exceptional customer service. Every staff member we encountered was warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond to ensure our visit was memorable. Whether assisting with shows, guiding us around, or simply sharing a friendly smile, their professionalism and kindness made a lasting impression. We left with joyful hearts and unforgettable memories. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a truly magical day out

One of the most memorable days of my life. Everything was so well coordinated. It was So heartwarming to see the amazing talents of the children there. The crews who magically perform in the stage, mind-blowing show by magicians!. The group we had this day was so fun to be along as well. We even got to see Gopinath sir a beacon of philanthropy who adressed us. Wishing all the growth to this wonderful place. Thankyou so much for making our day!! and capturing all the beautiful moments and sending us!!

A wonderful experience With family. A full day packed program. We went with children. The money we spent there is worth every penny. Children can learn a lot of things about another side of childhood where our differently abled children their entire childhood in colours instead of chaos. They grow, live, learn and earn with Magic Planet. I would recommend this place as a must visit place for everyone. Also keep in mind the shows are understandable for kids above 5 years only. The full day program includes a food and snack facility on the campus itself. Ample parking is available.

A heaven on earth! Truly touched seeing the blessed children filled with creativity and joy❤️.The place radiates God’s presence through its dedicated staff and teachers. Impressed by their punctuality, cleanliness, service, and the scrumptious food. The performances — especially by Ali Cherpulasserry, the mentalist, along with the theatre shows, circus acts, were simply mind-blowing! Hats off to Gopinath Muthukad Sir for this divine initiative. Everyone should visit this magical place — it’s a true blessing! 🙏

The location is approximately 20 km from the city. It's a 10 am to 6 pm program. Try to join by 10 am. The forenoon session mostly focuses on the performance of differently abled children. Stepping into Magic Planet was an experience that transcended mere entertainment. This is not just a theme park; it's a unique social experiment that is succeeding with grace and excellence. The park is a platform to empower and rehabilitate an often overlooked community—differently-abled children and street magicians. Seeing these incredible artists perform with such skill, confidence, and sheer joy is breathtaking. The work done here, training and providing a livelihood for these talented individuals, is a rare and beautiful initiative that sets Magic Planet apart from any other attraction. The park’s architecture and design are stunning, creating a truly enchanting atmosphere. Every corner of the park is thoughtfully crafted to ignite the imagination. The magic and circus sessions are, without a doubt, scintillating. The illusions are world-class, the acrobatics are gravity-defying, and the performances are delivered with professionalism and passion, keeping you on the edge of your seat. The variety of shows, from close-up magic to grand illusions, ensures that there is something to captivate every family member. Every staff member we interacted with was incredibly polite, sensible, and genuinely helpful. Their care and attention to detail, especially in managing a crowd with diverse needs, speak volumes about the place's ethos. This was my second visit to Magic Planet, and it was even better than the first. I was pleasantly surprised to learn they no longer charge for entry but instead accept donations. Honestly, I feel they should charge for such a fantastic package of entertainment. To show our support for their noble cause—empowering differently-abled children and street magicians—my family and I happily donated ₹1000 per person. The food options were simple and average: a Kerala style basic veg meal and chicken biryani. In a world full of commercial attractions, Magic Planet stands out as a beacon of hope and humanity. A full five stars and our highest recommendation!

Jatayu Earth's Center

Sights & Landmarks
Adventure sports center
This 65-acre tourist attraction features a giant concrete statue of Jatayu, plus various activities.
Jatayu Earth Center is an amazing place to visit! The sculpture is massive and beautifully designed — you’ll truly be in awe when you see it up close. The view from the top is stunning, and the whole area feels peaceful and well-maintained. Make sure to bring CASH There are a few small temples on the top, including one with Lord Rama’s footsteps, which adds a nice spiritual touch. There’s also a small handicraft-style shop and a restaurant area where you can get food at reasonable prices while waiting for the cable car. Even though the entry fee is on the higher side, the overall experience is totally worth it. A must-visit spot if you’re exploring this side of Kerala!
Revmaxrider — Google review
--- I visited Jatayu Earth Center a year ago, and the experience still lingers in my memory. Nestled in Kerala’s rugged terrain, this destination is a stunning tribute to mythology, nature, and thoughtful infrastructure. 🚗 Accessibility & Facilities • Ample car parking: No hassle finding a spot, even during peak hours. • Well-maintained premises: Clean pathways, organized ticket counters, and courteous staff made the visit smooth. • Outside food not allowed, but they do have a canteen facility inside, which is convenient for refreshments. 🚡 Getting to the Top • You can trek up the hill or opt for the cable car, which offers a breathtaking aerial view of the landscape. The ride is short but spectacular—definitely a highlight. • Two separate tickets are required:• Entry to Jatayu sculpture area: Cash only, so carry enough. • Cable car ride: Can be paid via card or UPI, which is convenient. 🗿 At the Summit • The Jatayu sculpture is awe-inspiring—claimed to be the largest bird sculpture in the world, it’s a powerful visual homage to the legendary eagle from the Ramayana. • There’s a serene Lord Rama temple on the top, and you can also see the footprint of Lord Rama, adding a spiritual dimension to the visit. 🌟 Final Thoughts Jatayu Earth Center is more than just a tourist spot—it’s a place where mythology meets modern engineering. Whether you’re a nature lover, a spiritual seeker, or a curious traveler, this destination is absolutely worth visiting. ---
Binoy V — Google review
One-of-a-kind place! Truly worth visiting. The Jatayu sculpture is massive and a real piece of art. However, a few improvements can make the experience much smoother: • Ticketing system needs restructuring — more ticket counters are required, and there should be a proper waiting area downstairs as well or online tickets. • AC in the waiting areas needs better cooling, especially considering the crowd and weather. • Cable car safety can be improved. It should fully stop for tourists to get in and out; stepping off while it’s moving feels unsafe. • Clear instructions should be displayed at the entrance so visitors know the rules beforehand, especially since food and water are not allowed inside. • Refreshment counters need better cooling, more options, and water dispensers. • Photos for purchase look overly edited or AI-generated; more natural edits or original prints, especially with the Jatayu structure in the background, would be much better. • Souvenirs missing — fridge magnets or Jatayu-themed items would be great additions. Overall, it’s a great experience with a lot of potential to become even better!

Visited Jatayu Earth Center recently — an incredible experience! The massive Jatayu sculpture is breathtaking and beautifully crafted. The cable car ride offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and forests. The site is well maintained and the staff are friendly and helpful. There’s also an adventure zone for ziplining, archery, and other fun activities if you want some thrill. Make sure to carry water, wear comfortable shoes, and reach early to avoid the afternoon heat. A must-visit for anyone traveling through Kerala — both for its mythological significance and the spectacular views! 🌅 Best part: Watching the sunset from the hilltop.

Jatayu Earth Center in Kerala is known for its massive sculpture of the mythical bird Jatayu, placed on a rocky hilltop. Visitors can reach the top either by cable car or by walking up the pathway. The hilltop area can get quite hot during sunny hours, so carrying an umbrella or cap is advisable. At the top, there is a small water area and a shop for basic refreshments. A temple is also located near the sculpture, adding a peaceful touch to the visit. The viewpoint offers good spots for photography, making it suitable for families, friends, and solo travelers. Overall, it is a place where visitors can comfortably spend time exploring the sculpture, views, and surroundings.

Jatayu sculpture is beautiful with in detailed carvings. Small Lord Rama temple is situated upstairs. Devotees can see the foot step of Lord Rama backside of this temple. Overall fantastic experience.

Worth visiting the place when you are in trivandrum, Varkala or Kollam. The opening time is as mentioned on the site, it's exactly at 10AM. The ticketing system could have been little hassle free. They have one ticketing window at the ground level, this makes the process way slow. And also I don't find a reason of having another ticketing window at upper level to decide cable car or walking track. Most of the time I feel the cable car may not operate because of heavy wind in the area, so keep in mind. However I felt it was blessing in disguise to get our cable car got cancelled because of harsh weather and we could take a nice walk among the nature, it's just a km of climb. The management has arranged all necessary facilities like drinking water and toilets in all levels. The ticketing from online is fraud, there is a strict warning at the entrance to avoid online ticketing. The management does not allow any big bag, plastic items including water bottle and sanitizer but at the 1st floor they sell all plastic items which is contradicting to their policy.

I had an amazing time visiting Jatayu Earth Centre. The entire experience felt so well crafted especially the background music inspired by Indian history. It was incredibly soothing to the ears and added a beautiful depth to the whole ambience. During my visit, the museum was closed, possibly due to ongoing construction work, so I couldn’t explore that part. But the view from the Jatayu rock more than made up for it absolutely stunning and worth the climb. Overall, it’s a place everyone should visit at least once in their life. Truly a memorable experience

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a prominent feature of Thiruvananthapuram, part of a temple complex with a towering gateway and shrine to Padmanabha reclining on a serpent. The city also boasts other attractions like the Keralan Museum, Napier Museum, Kerala Government Secretariat, and various palaces and historical sites.
My visit to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, was a deeply spiritual and mesmerizing experience. The temple’s architecture, with its golden gopuram and intricate carvings, beautifully reflects the grandeur of traditional Kerala and Dravidian styles. The darshan of Lord Vishnu in the reclining (Anantha Shayana) posture was truly divine and filled me with peace and devotion. The temple’s atmosphere was calm and sacred, and the chants of devotees created a serene spiritual vibration all around. The temple administration maintained the premises with good discipline and cleanliness, and the staff were polite and helpful. The security arrangements and queue systems were well-managed, ensuring a smooth darshan experience even during peak hours. Visiting this ancient and world-famous temple was not only a religious experience but also a moment of cultural pride. I felt truly blessed and spiritually enriched after offering prayers at the feet of Lord Padmanabhaswamy. It is indeed one of the most divine and must-visit temples in India.

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a truly divine and serene place to visit in Thiruvananthapuram. The temple has fixed visiting hours — open from 4:30 AM till 12:15 PM in the afternoon and reopens in the evening from 4:30 PM. As you enter, the peaceful and spiritual atmosphere instantly surrounds you. Take some time to sit and walk around the temple corridor — it’s a truly beautiful and calming experience that lets you feel the divine energy of the place. This temple is unique, as it is the only temple in India dedicated to Lord Vishnu in a reclining (Anantha Shayana) posture. The darshan is taken through three separate doorways, and the sanctum is lit only by the gentle glow of numerous diyas, giving it a mystical and sacred aura. 🔒 Locker & Entry Rules: • Mobile phones, cameras, and bags are not allowed inside the temple. • Locker facilities are available near the entrance for safely storing your belongings. 👕 Dress Code: • Men: Must wear a dhoti and uparna (shawl). No shirts, T-shirts, or upper garments are allowed inside. • Women: Must wear a saree or traditional set-mundu. Western wear such as pants, jeans, or tops is not permitted. • Traditional attire is mandatory for everyone entering the temple. Overall, a visit to Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is not just about architecture or history — it’s about experiencing divine peace and spiritual energy that stays with you long after you leave.
Karan O — Google review
Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple The temple is located in the heart of the city, making it easily accessible. Once you arrive, you’re greeted by stunning architecture—a true masterpiece of art. The intricate stone carvings on the temple walls are brilliant and showcase incredible craftsmanship. Security & Rules As per temple regulations, security is extremely strict—almost like entering a fortress. Mobile phones and electronic devices are not allowed inside, which is understandable for maintaining sanctity. However, I noticed priests carrying mobile phones, which felt inconsistent. Rules should apply equally to everyone. Clock Room & Dress Code You need to pay for the cloakroom, which seems more like a business setup than a service, and there’s hardly any space to change clothes. The temple enforces a traditional dress code: men must wear a dhoti (lungi) without a shirt, and women must wear a sari or dhoti. While I respect the ritual, it would be better if the required attire were provided free of charge instead of adding extra costs.paying  ₹500, which feels high considering the temple’s immense wealth (reportedly worth billions). Despite this, there’s no free food for visitors. Prasad is only offered to those who purchase a receipt, and there are separate lines for them—this creates a sense of commercialization. Overall Experience The temple’s architecture and spiritual significance are extraordinary, but the management practices feel overly commercial and lack inclusivity. A little more transparency and hospitality would make the experience truly divine.

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram is one of the most divine and historically significant temples in India, dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the Anantha Shayana (reclining) posture. The temple’s golden gopuram, ancient architecture, and calm spiritual energy make it a must-visit place in Kerala. Darshan is offered through three doors, each revealing a part of the deity. Mobile phones, cameras, and bags are not allowed, but lockers are available near the entrance. Strict dress code is followed — men must wear a dhoti and women saree or set-mundu. The temple is very clean and well-maintained, and the queue management is good even during rush hours. The overall experience is peaceful, divine, and deeply spiritual — truly one of the most remarkable temples in South India.
Hari R — Google review
Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is widely praised for its stunning architecture, spiritual ambiance, and the impressive 18-foot idol of Lord Vishnu. Visitors highlight the temple as a must-see for its cultural and historical significance, though they also note the need to be prepared for strict rules. Positive reviews often mention the overwhelming spiritual experience despite long queues, which can be shortened with paid special darshan tickets. Positive aspects Architecture and Artistry: Many reviewers are awestruck by the temple's beauty, which blends Kerala and Dravidian styles. The intricate carvings, elaborate murals, and the sheer number of carved pillars are particularly impressive. Spiritual Experience: The divine feeling of the temple is a common theme in reviews, creating a sense of awe and tranquility for many visitors. Management: The temple management is generally seen as effective in maintaining order, especially during peak hours, and provides locker facilities for belongings. Things to be aware of Strict Dress Code: Visitors must adhere to a strict dress code. Men must wear a mundu (dhoti) and no shirt (a cloth can be worn over the shoulder), while women must wear a saree or a salwar suit. Some reviews note that jeans and t-shirts are not allowed. Crowds and Queues: The temple is often crowded. Visitors are advised to go early in the morning to avoid the longest queues. Special Tickets: A special ticket can be purchased to shorten the wait time for darshan, though some users report that queues can still be long even with these tickets. Electronics Restriction: Mobiles, cameras, and other electronic devices are not permitted inside the temple premises. A locker facility is available for storage.

one of the most peaceful and divine places to visit in Trivandrum. The moment I entered the temple streets, that old-charm architecture and calm atmosphere gave a very special feel. Inside the temple, the vibe is completely different-quiet, spiritual, and very disciplined. The main deity's darshan through the three doors is really unique, and seeing the detailed carvings and traditional Kerala-style structure felt very special. Dress code strict-ah irukum, but once you go inside, it feels worth it because the whole place is so serene. Overall in my view, it's a must-visit spot if you like spiritual and historic places-very peaceful, well-maintained, and gives a divine feeling throughout.
Survive D — Google review
Best time for darshan is early morning. It's better not to carry too much. Bags, mobile phones are not allowed. Locker facility is available at the entrance (fee is charged). There is dress code for men and women. Men should wear dhotis and for womens saree or lehenga. Kurti is also not allowed but you can wear dhoti over it as a skirt. At entrance dhoti is available. You can buy it from there. The queue was really long. But you can enjoy the temple architecture during the queue. The queue management was good. Drinking water facility was there.

Visiting Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple at night felt less like a trip and more like a slow dissolving of the day’s noise. As the sky deepened into indigo, the temple’s golden gopuram began to glow against the stillness, radiating a calm that seemed to reach you long before you entered the premises. What struck me first was the silence—not empty, but full. The soft rustle of the breeze, the distant rhythmic chanting, and the reflection of the illuminated tower shimmering in the temple tank created an atmosphere that felt almost otherworldly. It was as if time itself had paused to breathe. Walking around the corridor, the lamps cast warm halos on the pillars, and each step echoed gently, grounding you in the moment. The serenity of the night view wrapped around me, stripping away stress and cluttered thoughts. There is something profoundly humbling about standing in front of such ancient beauty, lit just enough to feel sacred yet not overwhelming. The darshan itself, even though brief, felt deeply cathartic. Seeing Lord Padmanabha in the dimly lit sanctum—reclining peacefully—brought an unexpected stillness to my mind. It wasn’t about rituals or expectations; it was a quiet, internal realignment, like a knot untied somewhere within. By the time I stepped out, the temple tank lay calm like a sheet of dark glass, mirroring the gopuram’s golden glow. The night air carried a coolness that made it easy to linger and absorb everything one more time. If there is a word for the experience, it is cleansing. The kind of peace that doesn’t simply soothe you in the moment but follows you long after. The night view of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple isn’t just scenic—it is profoundly, unexpectedly healing.

Konni Ecotourism - Elephant Camp

National reserve
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Modest facility housing live adult elephants & calves, plus a wildlife museum & gift shop.
Nice visit. There is not much to see there. If you don't have kids with you, it will hardly take half an hour to cover the place. As it is an elephant training camp, there were only 4-5 elephants only when we went there. You can take photos. One elephant craft shop as well as an elephant museum was there. Museum is pretty nice. You can see elephant skeleton there and also, they will play you the sounds of so many species from forest. One children's park and one 3D theatre was there. 3D was worth the money. All of us enjoyed. Also, one cafeteria is there.
Aswathy M — Google review
The entry fee is ₹80 per adult, but honestly, the experience doesn’t feel worth the cost. Most of the time, the children’s park inside seems to be closed, so there’s not much for kids to do. There are a few elephants, including a baby, but sadly, they are kept chained — it would be much better if they were presented in a more ethical way. There’s also a small museum, a 3D show, and a shop selling forest products. The place is closed on Mondays, and car parking comes with an extra charge. Overall, the site feels a bit run-down and could really benefit from improvements to enhance both the visitor experience and the well-being of the animals.
Goutham V — Google review
If you're an elephant enthusiast, this is a must-visit destination. The experience allows you to observe elephants up close, offering a unique opportunity to appreciate these majestic animals. The site also features an Elephant Museum, which provides detailed insights into the life, history, and significance of elephants. In addition, there's a small children's park on the premises, making it a family-friendly spot. The serene and green surroundings add to the charm, allowing visitors to relax and engage in light recreational activities. It’s a great place to spend a peaceful few hours, especially for nature and animal lovers.

Surrounded by lush greenery and serene landscapes, this eco-destination is a must-visit for nature lovers. The elephant camp is a highlight, allowing visitors to observe and learn about rescued elephants in a well-maintained environment. Trekking trails, river cruises, and the tranquil ambiance make the experience even more special. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, ensuring a great visit. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat in the lap of nature, Konni Ecotourism is the place to be.

I visited Konni Eco Tourism Centre recently. The place is naturally beautiful and has good potential for eco-tourism, but honestly, I felt it is not maintained as well as it should be. Some areas looked neglected, and with proper care the place could be much more attractive. Parking is available near the entrance (₹15 for two-wheelers, ₹40 for cars), which is convenient. However, the entry fee (₹80 for adults) feels a bit high compared to what is currently offered inside. For the amount they charge, visitors expect better facilities, cleaner surroundings, and more engaging activities. It is still a peaceful spot to spend some time in nature, but in my opinion, it doesn’t feel fully worth the ticket price. With better upkeep and a little more attention to detail, this centre could definitely become a top eco-tourism destination. NB: Only card or GPay is accepted at the ticket counter

Konni Elephant Training Centre, located in the lush vegetation of Pathanamthitta district, is a unique and enchanting destination that offers visitors an up-close experience with elephants. Known for its rich history and dedication to the welfare and training of elephants, Konni Elephant Training Centre is a must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers, and those interested in learning about the majestic elephants of Kerala. Historical and Cultural Significance Konni Elephant Training Centre has a long and storied history dating back to 1942. It was established as a center for training elephants captured from the wild, a practice that was once common in Kerala. Today, the center focuses on the care and rehabilitation of elephants, ensuring their well-being and promoting conservation efforts.

Napier Museum, located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is a 19th-century architectural marvel housing archaeological artifacts, historical relics, and art pieces. The museum features royal seats with Chinese engravings, a musical bow in mahogany, colored windows, and intricately painted and carved rosewood ceilings. Situated near the museum is the Kanakakunnu Palace which was once used as a summer retreat by the Travancore royal family to entertain guests.
Napier Museum: Where History, Nature & Calm Come Together 🏛️🌿🕊️ It’s an experience that deserves an entire day to truly absorb. Spread across a huge, well maintained space, the place is spotlessly clean and beautifully organized, offering a calm escape right in the city. The museum itself is free to enter, while the adjoining zoo entry costs just ₹50, which also includes a locker facility for bags and even plastic bottles a thoughtful touch for keeping the space clean. The zoo is expansive, and right outside, a small café serves as the perfect refresher after a walk. What makes this venue special is the balance it offers: while the exhibits and zoo engage your curiosity, the grounds themselves invite you to slow down. There are plenty of shaded spots and tree-side seating areas, making it easy to pause, rest, or just take in the serene atmosphere. Despite the outside heat, the entire space feels naturally cooler, adding to the comfort. Whether you’re interested in history, looking to enjoy a day amidst nature, or simply searching for a peaceful retreat, Napier Museum is one of those rare places where you can do it all at once.

A canteen is also there with some good food just behind the hall with the paintings 🎨

The ticket price is 200 rupees for foreigners while it's only 30 rupees for local Indians, so it's almost 7 times more expensive than locals for me. But I decided to look around inside, and it's worthwhile visiting just one time while you are in Trivandrum. Most importantly, I have met so many beautiful locals who were so curious about me taking pictures together with them, what a memorable time mingling with genuinely welcoming Indian locals. Again it's a lovely wooden house containing lots of artifacts from thousands yrs ago or unknown periods etc, and interestingly I noticed they had some Indonesian artifacts too.

Napier Museum in Thiruvananthapuram is a beautiful place full of history and art. The architecture itself is stunning — a mix of Kerala and Gothic styles. The museum is surrounded by a peaceful green park, perfect for a walk after exploring. Inside, you can see traditional Indian sculptures, ancient ornaments, and rare archaeological pieces. A great spot to learn about Kerala’s rich culture and relax at the same time. Entrance fee is 200 rupees.

Napier Museum is a historic and beautiful landmark known for its unique Indo-Saracenic architecture and peaceful garden setting. It houses an impressive collection of ancient bronze and stone idols, ornaments, ivory carvings, and cultural artifacts. Located next to the Trivandrum Zoo, it’s affordable and easily accessible. However, some exhibits lack proper lighting, clear labeling, and maintenance. Facilities like restrooms and signboards could be improved, and it can get warm or crowded at times. Overall: A must-visit for art, culture, and history lovers — charming for its architecture and heritage, though slightly outdated in presentation.

However, the trip was far from disappointing, as the surrounding grounds turned out to be an absolute delight and made the visit memorable. Located in the heart of the city, the Napier Museum’s premises are spacious, calm, and strikingly beautiful. The wide, open area is a haven of tranquility amidst the urban bustle, offering a serene ambiance that instantly captivates. The lush greenery, coupled with the historic charm of the museum’s architecture, creates a picturesque setting that feels almost magical in the evening light. What stood out was the subtle addition of music in the air whether it was from nearby performers or an intentional touch by the management, it added a soulful vibe to the experience. We saw several people, from families to groups of friends, enjoying the space, walking, chatting, and soaking in the relaxed atmosphere. It’s clear why this spot is a popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Despite the charm of the surroundings, there were some notable drawbacks that kept this from being a perfect experience. The amenities were lacking in several areas. There was no designated parking area for two wheelers, which made it inconvenient for those arriving on bikes. Seating areas were also limited, forcing many visitors to stand or sit on the grass, which might not be ideal for everyone. Additionally, I noticed a lack of garbage bins, which led to some litter scattered around, detracting from the beauty of the place. The number of toilets was also insufficient for the crowd, and the available ones could use better maintenance. I strongly suggest that the management address these issues to elevate the experience. Adding a dedicated parking area for two wheelers, increasing the number of benches or seating spots, installing more garbage bins to encourage cleanliness, and improving toilet facilities would make the grounds even more welcoming. These improvements could transform the area into a truly exceptional public space. Overall, spending time in the Napier Museum’s surroundings was a wonderful experience, filled with beauty, calm, and a unique ambiance enhanced by music. Despite the museum being closed and the limited amenities, the charm of the place earned it a solid 4 star rating. With some attention to the mentioned improvements, this could easily become a 5 star destination for anyone visiting Trivandrum.

Outdoor Activities
Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, established in 1857 as a supplement to the Napier Museum, has evolved from a recreational spot to a wildlife conservation center. Spanning 55 acres, it is Asia's oldest zoo and boasts over 80 animal species including white tigers, ostriches, pelicans, and vultures. The zoo also features botanical gardens with over 200 tree species and an impressive array of plants and orchids.
Trivandrum Zoo is honestly one of the best zoos I’ve visited in Kerala. It’s beautifully maintained with plenty of greenery and open space something you don’t usually find right in the heart of a busy city. The layout feels calm and refreshing, making it perfect for a relaxed family outing or even a solo stroll if you love nature. The collection of animals is impressive and well cared for, and the main highlight for me was definitely the Anaconda enclosure it really stands out and draws a lot of attention! The environment feels peaceful, and there’s a nice balance between nature and conservation.

Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, one of India’s oldest (est. 1857), is a beautiful, green, and well-maintained place located in the city center near the Napier Museum. It has a good variety of animals including tigers, lions, elephants, reptiles, and birds. The surroundings are shaded and peaceful, making it pleasant for families and children. Entry is affordable, and electric carts are available for visitors. However, some enclosures are small, a few animals seem inactive, and the food stalls or cart services can be slow on crowded days. The zoo can get very busy on weekends and holidays, and animals are less active in the afternoon heat. Overall: A clean, scenic, and affordable place worth visiting—best enjoyed in the morning or evening when it’s cooler and less crowded.

Went on a weekday. No so much crowded, but yes it's a tourist place so there'll be crowd especially on Sundays. The ticket price google mentioned (200/-) is dfor foreigners and the ticket price for Indians is only 40(for adults). I only support zoo when they can provide better facilities for animals that they can't get them on forest. But I'm not sure about here, because most of the animals are always lay down like they don't have enough health, especially the lion, tiger & cheetah(pythons too). It seems they can barely walk. On the other hand the bear, deer, and hippos seems pretty healthy. So I'm not sure, maybe it's the time I went there. The main problem is you can't clearly see most of the birds, I'm not sure till why they don't use glasses for clear visibility rather than the small grill, that you can barely see them. The white tiger was a suprise and he/she/they/them whatever was actually stunning. Most of the cages were empty (I'm actually glad for that). A 20 min walk through a"made up jungle" is actually good. The staffs always clean the place but be careful of the tree branch. The snakes non of them are even moving, I'm not sure if they alive or not for some reason. Anyway yeah as I mentioned earlier if you can provide better facilities for animals yes it's a good initiative. Unless it's cruelty.

Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in India and a lovely place to visit. The park is clean, green, and well-maintained, with spacious enclosures for animals. You can see lions, tigers, crocodiles, and many exotic birds. It’s a peaceful escape in the city and a great spot to spend a few hours enjoying nature and wildlife. Perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers who love animals and quiet walks. Entrance is 200 rupees. I went to this zoo hoping to see an elephant, but there wasn't one there.
Alexandr — Google review
The zoo was decent but had a limited variety of animals. The deer and porcupine enclosures were quite crowded, making it hard to get a good view. Some of the reptiles were not present. The layout could be better managed for visitor flow. Kids still enjoyed spotting the few animals around. Overall, an average experience that could improve with better space and crowd management. The entry fee for family is ₹100.

Zoo is good. Enjoy for picnic or one day fun. Must visit nearby locations like palace and museum, located within one KM. Restaurant and washroom and and Shop available inside the campus and nearby. Easily available auto for this place or for go to outside. Greenery is superb and all three locations are fantastic for photoshoot. You can also enjoy fish aquarium located in this area.

Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is one of the oldest and most well-maintained zoos in India, offering a great mix of nature, wildlife, and greenery in the heart of the city. The enclosures are spacious and clean, housing a wide variety of animals, birds, and reptiles. It’s a pleasant experience for families, children, and nature enthusiasts alike. The zoo is spread across a large area, so be prepared for a good amount of walking. Pathways are shaded with trees, making it comfortable even on warmer days. The adjoining museum and botanical gardens add to the experience, making it a complete day outing. Entry fees are very reasonable, and online ticketing is also available. Parking is available but can get crowded on weekends. Security is decent, and food options are limited inside, so carrying water and light snacks is advisable.
Anish G — Google review
The best place to spend quality time with kids while helping them learn about animals and nature. The zoo offers a perfect mix of fun and education — children get to see a wide variety of animals up close and understand their habitats and behaviors. It’s a wonderful opportunity for kids to connect with wildlife, develop curiosity about the environment, and enjoy a day filled with excitement and learning. A truly enriching experience for families!

Perunthenaruvi Falls is a natural wonder, with a river cascade flanked by rocky outcrops that flow most strongly during monsoon season. Despite its beauty, the area can be dangerous in the rainy months and lacks nearby shops. Two paths from the parking lot lead to different areas of the river, where all-round rocks are shaped by continuous water flow. The site provides stunning sunset views and picturesque backgrounds for photographs, though caution must be taken due to high water levels in some areas.
I recently visited the Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls and was absolutely blown away by its breathtaking beauty! This hidden gem is a must-visit for anyone looking for a tranquil and rejuvenating experience. _Highlights:_ - Stunning waterfalls surrounded by lush greenery - Crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and bathing - Serene and peaceful atmosphere, ideal for relaxation - Friendly and helpful local guides - Plenty of photo opportunities _Tips for Visitors:_ - Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that can get wet - Bring towels, swimwear, and a change of clothes - Be respectful of the local environment and wildlife - Don't miss the nearby trekking trails and scenic viewpoints _Overall Experience:_ My visit to the Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls was an unforgettable experience that left me feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Beautiful but dangerous waterfalls. It's about 35 kilometres from Pathanamthitta town. No tickets. No lifeguards. So be careful as there so many dangerous pits. Car Parking facility is there.

Perunthenaruvi is a beautiful hidden waterfall near a small dam, surrounded by pure nature. We travelled through the forest for around 2 km to reach here. Very peaceful with hardly any crowds, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy the beauty. However, it’s quite dangerous as there are no safety measures, so be extra careful visiting.
Parvathy R — Google review
It was a beautiful waterfall until recently. When a dam was built above it to feed the newly built hydroelectric powerhouse down there below the waterfall, the waterfall became slimmer and less formidable. But there was a time when water gushed down like a torrent in the waterfall and there was a fine spray of water drops around. And there were several deaths caused by carelessness or foolish boldness.

Monsoon season is the best time to visit this small waterfall. The road to this area is narrow and there is no food outlets.

Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls near Ranny is a beautiful, peaceful spot that’s perfect for a short getaway into nature. The views are stunning, especially after the rains, and the whole place has a calm, refreshing vibe. Great for relaxing, clicking a few photos, and just enjoying some quiet time outdoors. Tips: Visit early in the morning or late afternoon for the best light and fewer people. Carry water and snacks; shops nearby are limited. Be cautious on the rocks—some areas can be slippery.

Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls is a captivating destination that offers a stunning natural spectacle. Visiting in the evening before sunset enhances the experience, as the softer light provides better visibility and creates perfect conditions for photography. The golden hour adds a magical quality to the cascading water and surrounding scenery. The waterfall itself is impressive, with its powerful flow. However, it can get a bit crowded, so arriving earlier in the evening is advisable to enjoy more. It’s a must-visit for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike.

The Neyyar Dam is a large structure built on the Neyyar River, featuring a reservoir, picnic areas, and a wildlife sanctuary that offers visitors an opportunity to take part in various types of boating activities on the water. Of these options, the wildlife boating experience stands out as it takes passengers through twists and turns to reach the 'wildlife preservation centre,' which is a nature retreat in itself that is definitely worth visiting.
A very good place to visit with family. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful, and it’s a super spot to spend some relaxing time. You’ll need to do a bit of walking, but it’s definitely worth it for the views and the experience.

Neyyar Dam is a scenic gravity dam on the Neyyar River in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, located at the foothills of the Western Ghats. Completed in 1958, the dam and its surrounding wildlife sanctuary are a popular day-trip destination from the city, known for nature, wildlife, and boating. Attractions and activities Boating on the reservoir: Take a boat tour, including speed boats, on the expansive reservoir. The ride offers scenic views of the surrounding hills and takes you to the various islands and wildlife areas within the sanctuary. Lion Safari Park: Located on a secluded island accessible by boat, this park allows visitors to see lions in a semi-wild habitat. Note: The park's operational status may vary, so it's wise to check in advance. Crocodile Rehabilitation and Research Centre: Accessible by boat, this center offers a safe way to observe crocodiles. You can also see a collection of other reptiles here. Deer Park: An enclosure on one of the islands allows you to view deer. It is also part of the boat tour. Wildlife Sanctuary: The dam is part of the larger Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a diverse range of animals like elephants, sloth bears, and leopards. It is also a birdwatcher's paradise. Trekking: Guided trekking opportunities are available within the sanctuary. For those interested in more serious hiking, obtaining prior permission from the Forest Department is necessary for climbs like Agasthyamala Peak.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A calm and peaceful place to visit! Neyyar Dam is beautifully maintained and very clean. There’s a lovely clock tower inside — definitely visit it, because from the top you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the entire area. Inside the dam premises, there’s also a Milma ice cream parlour, a café, and a canteen that serves good meals. A perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature! 🌿🍦

Neyyar Dam is one of the most calming spots you can visit near Trivandrum. The moment you reach, you’re greeted with a peaceful atmosphere, cool breeze, and stunning greenery all around. The top view from the dam is absolutely breathtaking. It is a perfect blend of vast water, hills, and sky that instantly relaxes your mind. The place is not just scenic but also a great spot to explore. There’s a small aquarium nearby that’s fun to check out, especially for families. And if you’re interested in wildlife, the crocodile park close to the dam is an exciting addition where you can see crocodiles up close in a safe environment. Overall, Neyyar Dam is perfect for a calm weekend getaway, short ride, or a peaceful evening walk. A must visit if you love nature, views, and quiet moments. 🌿✨
MUSAMMIL S — Google review
I am giving 4 star as its good but has potential to be great. Neyyar Dam, nestled in the Western Ghats about 30 km from Thiruvananthapuram, offers a peaceful escape into nature. As a traveller, I found it to be a quiet, scenic spot—ideal for those who prefer slow, reflective moments over crowded tourist attractions. The dam is surrounded by forested hills and a vast reservoir that glows beautifully in the evening light. A walk through the nearby park or simply sitting by the water feels calming. The boat ride across the reservoir adds a touch of adventure, taking you to the Lion Safari Park and Crocodile Rehabilitation Centre. While these spots may not be high-end, they offer a raw and unique experience, especially for families or first-time visitors. Neyyar isn’t about grand sights or adrenaline; it’s about pausing, watching, and breathing. It’s best visited on a weekday for a quieter experience. There are limited food options, so carrying your own snacks and water is a good idea. If you’re looking for a simple, refreshing day surrounded by nature, Neyyar Dam is well worth a visit. During monsoon this place offers a completely different experience than that of the summer. Facilities are mostly minimal and the central view tower definitely needs some better management. Also thats the same situation of the parks, can be maintained well, with proper land management and maintenance. If you are someone who enjoys a view its a great place. There is also a KTDC restaurant right next to the dam. I hope they have accommodation facilities too as they had a decent menu. Prices seemed reasonable and can be subjective. There is also an aquarium that has a ton of fish species, and there are some giants too, giants in a sense as if they weigh over 50kgs. It has a seperate ticket counter. I believe it was the first fish aquarium in india or asia. The lighting and interior ambience during monsoon is very dull and moody, but i hope it will be better during the summer. The structure is also comparatively better considering a public building, its not great in terms of aesthetics but is definitely good in terms of flow, movement and exhibit placement. I liked that one. It also has some huge ponds outside the building close to its perimeter that has some large koi fishes. Overall a good place for a one day trip, and it’s always better to visit and leave early. Check with the authorities for official timings.

Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in Trivandrum, Kerala, is a nature lover's paradise. It offers deer viewing, a crocodile park, and boat rides on the picturesque Neyyar Dam. The sanctuary features attractions like the Bus Safari, Elephant Rehabilitation Center, Lion Park, and Crocodile Farm. Visitors can also enjoy guided trekking and overnight camping amidst lush greenery. The serene atmosphere makes it an ideal getaway for hiking or bird-watching enthusiasts.
I visited Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary with a friend and had a wonderful time. On the way, we stopped near the reservoir – while entry is restricted in some areas, there are a few safe spots where people were enjoying a refreshing bath. We then headed up to the top of the dam, which has a small entry fee and parking charge. Totally worth it – the view from the top was absolutely spectacular, especially with the dam gates open, creating a stunning visual of the water gushing down. It’s a perfect location for photography lovers. Nearby, there’s a children’s park which looked well-maintained and great for families. We noticed a boat safari is also available, though we didn’t opt for it this time. There are also a crocodile park and a deer park close by, making it a complete nature experience. Highly recommended for a half-day trip or a peaceful nature escape!
Sajin S — Google review
Once you visit, you’ll realize it’s truly worth the trip. The journey takes you through lush, green landscapes with dense forests flanking both sides of the road. As you arrive, the dam greets you with two distinct views. On the lower side, you’ll find the shutters, a beautifully designed bridge, a children’s park, and other recreational spots. The upper side, in contrast, offers a serene atmosphere—remarkably calm even with over a hundred visitors present at the time. Nearby, there’s a Forest Department office, a cafeteria, and a crocodile park—though the latter could certainly benefit from better maintenance. One of the most exciting features is the variety of boat trips available within the dam, including a longer safari-style excursion. Overall, the experience is enjoyable and memorable. However, it’s hard to ignore the missed potential. The tourism department appears to be underperforming, especially given the vast opportunities available to develop the area into a major attraction. Right now, it feels like a beautiful title waiting for the poem to be written. A sincere request to the government: show the commitment and vision needed to transform this naturally gifted location into a world-class destination for travelers from around the globe.

Established in 1977, it aims to protect and breed the endangered species. Nice place situated near to Neyyar dam. We visited after rainy season so that there was water in the reservoir. There is no lion safari now. It is closed and there are no lions now. Picturesque views. We could able to see parts of hills from agastyarkoodam, kurishumala etc. There were three packages available. We took package-1 which covers deer park, crocodile park, elephants (1 big and 1 young one) and boating for 1 hour at 2900/-. Guides were there inorder to provide the information all the time. Boating was so good with panoramic views. Only 2-3 crocodiles are there in the crocodile park. We have to walk through a small narrow forest path unordered to see the deer park which was nice. We heard from one of the employee that all the lions are dead so that they have to shut down the safari. Earlier at a point, there were 16 male lions and it was difficult to feed them. And there were no profit from the sanctuary also. So one doctor approved for the sterilization procedure which made them infertile. It was a sad story.

The surroundings are full of greenery and calm, giving a nice forest-like feel. There are also trekking options here. The first package is a 4 km trek that starts in the morning and finishes by around 12 PM. It costs ₹1300 for a group of five. The second is a full-day trek for ₹2500 for five people. For those who want to stay overnight, there are cottage facilities available at ₹1900 and ₹2500. Boating is another activity here, starting from ₹250. Rating: Online reviews often give the center a good average rating (e.g., 4.2 stars based on a large number of ratings). 👍 General Sentiment Visitors appreciate the opportunity to see the elephants in a protected, natural setting and learn about the rehabilitation efforts. The beautiful location in the Agasthyakoodam hill range and the added eco-tourism activities make it a full-day destination. If you are planning a visit, I can help you find the latest contact details, entry fees, or specific timings for the elephant feeding/bathing sessions.

All the elephants are rescued animals. Visiting for the 2nd time and this time due to heavy rain during monsoon the pathway was blocked by fallen trees and electric lines hence could not view the elephant feeding and bathing and I was taken for a limited sighting of elephants. But the rain made the atmosphere and greenery looks even better. This place also has a couple of trekking options. Location is around 15 km from kattakada. Must visit when visiting Trivandrum.

I recently visited the Kottoor Elephant Rehabilitation Centre in Trivandrum, and it was a unique experience! The center is located in a beautiful forest area, providing a natural habitat for rescued elephants. We reached there by 4PM, we got a chance to see the feeding sessions. The surroundings are peaceful, making it a great spot for nature lovers. We were not able to touch or feed the elephants; we could only observe them from a small distance. They also have offer boating facilities. Overall, it’s a good place to visit, especially for families and wildlife enthusiasts. Parking - The parking area is spacious and paid. Rating: 4/5 - Scenic location, close-up view of elephants, peaceful environment

Sabarimala Temple is a deeply spiritual and culturally rich pilgrimage site, revered for its devotion to Lord Ayyappa and its unique traditions. Visitors consistently describe it as a transformative experience, blending natural beauty, religious fervor, and communal harmony. 🌄 Overview of the Experience - Location: Nestled in the Western Ghats of Kerala, surrounded by dense forests and hills, the temple offers a serene and scenic setting. - Deity: Dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, symbolizing dharma and celibacy. - Access: Pilgrims typically begin their journey from Erumeli, trekking through forest paths to reach the temple. The route itself is considered part of the spiritual purification. 🙏 Rituals and Traditions - Mandala Pooja and Makaravilakku: These are the most significant festivals, drawing millions of devotees annually. - Strict Vratham (penance): Devotees observe 41 days of austerity before visiting, wearing black or blue attire and abstaining from worldly pleasures. - Unique Entry Rules: Traditionally, women of menstruating age (10–50 years) were not allowed, though this has been subject to legal and social debate in recent years. 🌟 Visitor Impressions - Spiritual Atmosphere: Many describe the temple as a place of immense peace and divine energy. The chants of “Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa” echo through the hills, creating a powerful ambiance. - Community and Brotherhood: The pilgrimage fosters a sense of equality and unity—devotees refer to each other as “Ayyappa,” regardless of social status. - Challenges: The trek can be physically demanding, especially during peak seasons. However, most pilgrims view it as a test of devotion. 🏞️ Nearby Attractions - Pampa River: A sacred river where pilgrims bathe before ascending. - Malikappuram Temple: Dedicated to Malikappurathamma, located near the main shrine. - Scenic Trails: The forested paths and wildlife sightings add a natural charm to the spiritual journey.

The queue is extremely long — it takes around 8 to 9 hours to reach the temple. If you are going with children or elderly people, it can be very dangerous because of the huge crowd. The security and police don’t seem to take much control, and most areas are so dirty that you can’t even place your feet comfortably. Once you enter the queue, you cannot step out or find a place to sit. If it rains, the situation becomes even worse — the ground gets messy and unhygienic. I personally waited for more than 8 hours, surviving only on a little water and a few biscuits. If there’s an emergency or someone needs to use the toilet, it’s almost impossible to leave the line. Seeing this made me question whether God truly exists here, because the place feels so unholy and inhumane. It literally felt like hell — plastic and garbage are scattered everywhere along the path. While the pathway itself is decent, people keep littering despite there being waste bins around. So, the problem isn’t with the government or the Devaswom Board, but with people’s mindset. Even though this temple is in the middle of a forest, people pollute it on their way to see God. It feels like the place has become more about business than devotion. We must remember — if there is any God, it’s within us, and only people can make a change, not any divine being.

Ayyappa Swamy grace turns this place into holy and pilgrimage into power. Devotion to Ayyappa Swamy makes pilgrims to overcome the Travancore Devasthan Board unreadiness, Chaos, mismanagement, uncleaniess, waste choked paths long hours queues without any food and water supply. Ayyappa Swamy devotion gives us power to overcome all the adharma of Travancore Devasthan Board. Ayyappa save your devotees.

Sabarimala Shri Ayyappa Swamy Temple is a sacred pilgrimage nestled in the Western Ghats, known for its spiritual aura and challenging trek. Devotees experience deep devotion and peace amidst its serene, forested surroundings.
AK A — Google review
Sabarimala is the sacred abode of swamy ayyappan and is situated on a hilly forest terrain in ranni perunad village in pathanamthitta district. This is the only temple in our country having a pincode 689713. Sabarimala is administered by atheists is a disgrace. Legendary belief is that after the victory over the demon, lord ayyappa meditated at sabarimala and attained moksha thus transforming this place as spiritual destination and worshipping here is highly auspicious. The holy eighteen sacred steps pathinettam padi is the main stairway to the temple. Here swamy ayyappa is placed gracefully in a beautiful sanctum sanctorum with dwarapalakas. Acknowledging the traditional importance and to adapt contemporary sensibilities temple is opened for five days every month. Main pilgrimage season is the mandala makara vilakku from november to january for sixty seven days. During the year temple will be opened for certain festival days also for a short period. Pilgrimers observe 41 days celibacy as customary principle for darshan to this temple. As part of custom womens of menstruating ages will not go for darshan. Without any dress code devotees themselves wear black or blue coloured shirts and dhotis. Here devotees address each other as 'ayyappa' or "swamy" and not by their names. Pilgrimers wear a thulasi bead carry a sacred bunch called as irumudi packed with cloth pouch filled with dried rice, ghee filled coconut, arcenut, jaggery, betel, coin, kadali pazham. Irumudi can be packed at pamba ganapathy temple. Atfirst to reach near nilackal for parking and by state transport bus to pampa. All trek barefoot towards sannidhanam from pamba which is the commonly preferred route. Some prefer other traditional trek routes such as erumeli kalaketti pampa and vandiperiyar sathram pulmedu sannidhanam. After wetting feet in the pampa river take darshan in pampa ganapathy temple and start trekking towards sannidhanam on the stone tiled paths passing through the divinely significant places such as sabaripeedam, pandithavalam, cheriyanavattam, neelimala, apachimedu and atlast reach sannidhanam. Those disabled can avail the dolly services. Free food at pamba and sannidhanam available but is conducted in a disgraceful manner. Those with irumudi kettu are only allowed pathinettam padi access. Devotees can offer for various rituals such as neyyabhishekam, ashtabhishekam, kalasabhishekam, kalabhabhishekam, pushpabhishekam which is also not systematically organized. Aravana and appam available as prasadam but commercialized. Common devotees are put to much hardship and maximum sufferings kept waited for long hours in long ques and are pulled out inhumanly before sopanam without enabling a small glimpse of the lord. Only bigwigs entourage found given undue privileges enabling smooth darshan. Moreover contributions of devotees seems not properly utilized for devotee friendly infrastructure improvements as the pilgrim facilities found inadequate in nilackal, pamba, erumeli and sannidhanam. Online bookings for darshan and accommodations handled unprofessionally. Being a globally revered divine destination sabarimala lacks professionalism and transparency in administration as it requires a separate devaswam and at the helm a IAS officer.

Visiting Sabarimala Temple was a truly divine and unforgettable experience. The atmosphere is filled with devotion, chants, and positive energy that makes you feel blessed. The temple’s golden sanctum is breathtaking, especially when illuminated at night – it feels like a spiritual jewel in the forested hills. The arrangements for devotees are well-organized with proper queues, drinking water, and cleanliness maintained despite the heavy rush of pilgrims. The crowd management is commendable, and the discipline of the devotees adds to the spiritual vibe. Climbing the sacred 18 steps (Pathinettam Padi) was a deeply emotional moment, and the darshan of Lord Ayyappa filled me with peace and gratitude. The journey itself – through the hills, chants of “Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa,” and the brotherhood among devotees – makes the pilgrimage even more meaningful. 🙏 A must-visit for anyone seeking spiritual strength, discipline, and divine blessings.

Palaruvi Waterfalls

Waterfalls
Palaruvi Waterfalls, located in the middle of a Kerala forest, is a stunning sight with water tumbling down a sheer rock face. The area is well-maintained and clean, with strict rules against littering. To reach the falls, visitors must take a government bus from the parking area about 3-4 km away. There are limited amenities near the falls, including a small cafe and picnic areas.
Beautiful and Refreshing Waterfall – Must Visit! Visited Palaruvi Waterfalls and it was a wonderful experience! The view of the waterfall is absolutely stunning, and the sound of the water with the natural greenery around makes it a very refreshing spot. The water is icy cold and clean, straight from nature! It was quite crowded when I went, especially around the bathing area. Only a small portion is open for bathing, so it gets very rushed, especially on holidays or weekends. I didn’t get into the water due to the crowd, but I think weekdays would be less crowded. 🎟️ Ticket Details: Adults – ₹70 Kids (above 5 years) – ₹35 Kids below 5 – free 🚍 They provide a bus from the ticket counter to the waterfall, as personal vehicles are not allowed near the falls. 🚗 Parking area is available at the ticket counter itself. The place felt very safe and well-managed, with friendly staff ensuring proper security and cleanliness. 🌿 Overall, a great spot to connect with nature. Highly recommended, especially on weekdays!
Anaswara S — Google review
truly a beautiful spot to visit. The surroundings are calm with a cool breeze that refreshes the mind. There’s plenty of parking space, and the adult entry ticket is ₹70. It’s best to visit on normal days, as weekends and holidays can get very crowded. Private vehicles are not allowed near the falls since it’s a forest area, but the office provides shuttle buses (two are available) to take visitors from the parking area to the waterfall. The staff and security are very friendly and helpful—one security officer even helped us take pictures. There are small shops nearby for tea and snacks, and clean bathrooms are also available. Bathing at the waterfall is comparatively safe, and steps are provided to climb up for better views and photos. Payments are cashless, so only UPI or cards are accepted. Overall, it’s a well-maintained place and worth visiting. The best time to go is early in the morning. The falls open at 8 AM.

We recently visited Palaruvi Waterfalls, and it was an amazing experience! From the ticket counter, it’s about a 3 km ride to the falls, and visitors are taken there by the park’s bus service since private vehicles aren’t allowed. The waterfall offers a stunning view, and bathing in the cool, refreshing water was truly enjoyable. There are changing rooms available for women, which is very convenient. The area does have quite a few monkeys, so it’s best to keep an eye on your belongings and avoid taking food outside. The place wasn’t too crowded, making it perfect for a peaceful trip with family or friends.

A must-visit natural wonder! Palaruvi Waterfall is truly one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Kerala. The name “Palaruvi” means “Stream of Milk,” and it perfectly describes the white, misty flow of the water. The journey through the forest is scenic, peaceful, and full of greenery. The water is cool and refreshing — perfect for a quick dip! The place is well-maintained with separate areas for families and ladies to bathe safely. There’s also a small parking area, restrooms, and a ticket counter managed by the forest department. The best time to visit is during or right after the monsoon when the waterfall is in full flow.

Superb waterfalls, worth spending time with family. Very fresh water, fresh air, and great natural scenery. Well-maintained by the Kerala Government, which helps save nature. More crowds on weekends. We can reach the water falls through the forest department bus only, they charge Rs.70/- for each person. At the ticket counter, they only accept digital payments (UPI/card)

Palaruvi Falls is a famous waterfall located in Kerala, India, and the name Palaruvi literally means “stream of milk” in Malayalam, because of the milky white appearance of the water as it cascades down. Here are some key details: • 🌊 Height: Around 300 feet (91 meters), making it one of the highest waterfalls in Kerala. • 🏞️ Location: Situated in the Aryankavu region of the Kollam district, in the Western Ghats. • 🌴 Scenery: Surrounded by thick tropical forests, the area is rich in biodiversity and offers a very serene atmosphere. • 🧘 Health belief: Locals traditionally believe that the water has medicinal properties, good for skin and health, since it flows through forests rich in herbs. • 🚶 Tourism: It’s a popular picnic spot and trekking destination. The Kerala Tourism Department has developed it with eco-tourism initiatives, and entry is usually regulated. • 📍 Best time to visit: Monsoon and post-monsoon seasons (June–January) when the falls are at their full glory.

Paal means milk and aruvi means waterfalls .A Refreshing experience worth the travel. This is located in Kerala and very well maintained(Unlike the several badly maintained falls in Tamilnadu). To protect our environment, Plastic Bottles and eatables are not allowed. The vehicle by which we travel has to be parked and all visitors need to travel 2 to 3 kms in the Forest department buses which is mandatory. The staff were very courteous as we waited in the queue and were making us comfortable. The view was stunning but involved climbing a path ! Can't bathe directly under the strong flow . A small area where we can take a dip in the cool, flowing waters was very refreshing !

Nice place to visit, Well maintained by the Kerala Forest Department. Friendly staff in guiding us too. Amble parking space. The transportation arranged is also good. The only drawback I saw here is the wait till me for transportation when we return back. People coming in groups keep on coming at different times and these people kept on entering in between the queues increasing the waiting times of the people already waiting there ,.especially the elder people and people with kids . I would humbly request deploying more staff on thr waiting area to avoid such situations, so as to ensure the smooth functioning of this tourist place.

Arulmigu Kaasi Viswanathar Temple, Tenkasi(Pancha Kashi)

Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
Temple & pilgrimage site dedicated to Shiva & dating from the 1200s featuring a 7-tiered tower.
I recently visited the Kasi Viswanathar Temple in Tenkasi. It is one of the largest temples I’ve ever seen in my life. Lord Shiva is the main deity, but there are numerous other deities worshipped within the temple complex. The temple has beautifully preserved its ancient design and aesthetics, which creates a peaceful and blissful atmosphere. It’s incredibly quiet inside, with only the calming sound of mantra chants filling the space. The temple is surrounded by massive compound walls, and its architecture is truly stunning—similar to many other ancient temples found across Tamil Nadu. We visited on a Sunday, and thankfully, it wasn’t too crowded. However, parking is limited and located at the side of the temple, which can make it difficult to find a spot during peak times.

A good temple with Lord Siva in his mang manifestations along with other gods. One sincere request to the Govt of Tamilnadu is to introduce english too in name boards as people who can't read Tamil gets confused seeing the same Sivalinga in many locations. And what each deity is also needs to be written with its moolamathra so that people understand

A must visit Temple when visiting Tenkasi, A peaceful and delightful experience visiting this 🛕. The surroundings of this temple also was neat and well maintained when we visited. The only issue we found here was the provision for parking, we must be lucky enough to find a spot. Tenkasi is built around the Kasi Viswanathar temple. The temple has a seven-tiered gopuram (temple tower) and has concentric granite walls that enshrines all the shrines in the temple. The temple has a pillared hall from the entrance leading to the flagstaff hall. The sanctum is located axial to the entrance facing east. The image of Kasi Viswanathar in the form of lingam is housed in the sanctum. The images of Vinayaka and Subramanya are located on either side of the hall leading to the sanctum

Hidden Gem Near Coutralam Falls! 🌿💦 Wow! What a lovely and beautiful place to enjoy. Located just 40 km away from Coutralam Falls, this mesmerizing spot is far less crowded, making it a peaceful escape. Though the waterfall here is smaller in height, the force of the water is incredible—you literally can’t stand against it! It pushes you right off your spot, which makes it super fun, especially when you're with a group of friends. 🎉 Right next to the falls, you’ll find a dam, which is quite rare to witness together. I’ve never seen a dam and waterfall side by side like this—it’s truly a unique experience! They’ve thoughtfully provided separate dress changing rooms for ladies, ensuring privacy and safety. 👍 The same road also leads to Manjolai, which is a restricted forest area where entry is not allowed without special permission. This entire place is under the control of the Forest Department, and there are strict security checks. Carrying snacks, food, or drinks is not allowed—if you bring any, they’ll be taken at the check post and returned to you on the way back. 📅 Best time to visit: June to August, when the falls are at their best. If you like my review. Please do click like button. Thanks, Sabarinathan C

Arulmigu Nellaiyappar Temple, located in Tamil Nadu, is a renowned Hindu temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in the 17th century around two intricate 7th-century towers, it boasts beautiful Dravidian architecture and intricate carvings that attract both devotees and tourists. The temple is well-maintained and offers a peaceful atmosphere for visitors to admire its ancient structures and sculptures.
I had the opportunity to visit the Nellaiappar Temple in Tirunelveli on 10th August, and it was truly a divine and memorable experience. The temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva (Nellaiappar) and Goddess Kanthimathi, stands as one of the grandest temples in South India with its magnificent gopurams and intricate stone carvings. The vast corridors, majestic pillars, and the musical stone columns reflect the architectural brilliance of the Pandya dynasty. The spiritual atmosphere inside the temple was deeply calming, and the darshan was very peaceful. Visiting this ancient temple not only gave me a sense of devotion but also admiration for our rich cultural heritage.

The temple is also well-maintained, and the traditional rituals performed here add to the divine charm. Overall, this temple is not just a place of worship but also a must-visit cultural and architectural landmark in Tamil Nadu. A visit here leaves you feeling both peaceful and inspired.

A 2nd biggest siva temple in world, with very huge 3(3 for ambal + 3 for shiva)pragarams. Gomathy ambal is very gorgeous 😍 (gnanasakthi swaroopam). I have given 5 starts because every inch of the temple are very clean , Management is not shown that much interest in commercializing darshan( No 100rs,50 rs tickets for darshan) only 5 rs that too not required for all days . I really felt shivas heaven when I entered near garbhagraham of nellaiyappar .I suggest all to visit arround 5.30 Am to see the thiruvanathal sevai ,you will never forget the temple in life

Srivilliputtur Arulmigu Andal Sametha Rangamannar Temple is a lavish Hindu temple known for its carved-stone colonnades and a colorful 59m-tall stepped tower. It is considered one of the six Padai Veedu (Battle Camps) of Lord Murugan, making it a prime attraction in the town.
What is more you can expect other than being divine while you visit the best holy place. Starting from the entrance to coming back to entrance you will be awe'd and wow'ed with the sculptures and stories. This is a marvellous. The Srivilliputhur Andal Temple, located in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Andal and Lord Vishnu (as Vatapatrasayi). It is one of the 108 Divya Desams, sacred shrines praised by the Alvar saints. The temple is especially significant as the birthplace of Andal, the only female Alvar and one of the most beloved saints in the Vaishnavite tradition. The temple complex features stunning Dravidian architecture, with its towering 192-foot rajagopuram (temple tower) being one of the tallest in Tamil Nadu. This tower is so iconic that it is featured in the Tamil Nadu state emblem. The temple has two main sanctums — one for Lord Vatapatrasayi and another for Goddess Andal, who is enshrined in a standing posture. The temple is famous for its Aadi Pooram festival, which celebrates Andal’s birth with grandeur and devotion. During the Tamil month of Margazhi, her devotional hymns, the Tiruppavai, are sung daily. Andal's deep love and devotion for Lord Vishnu are reflected in the temple’s rituals and traditions. Srivilliputhur Andal Temple remains a vital spiritual and cultural center, attracting thousands of devotees and pilgrims every year.

Saw about this temple online and planned for a visit during trip to tamilnadu. Temple gopuram was very captivating and you can see padmanabha swamy and Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and andal birth place. This padmanabha swamy is very clearly visible and priest explained everyone around lord Vishnu and it is very beautiful. Definitely go and take blessings. No rush, no queue, no ticket, just peaceful visit.

What an amazing temple located in the town of Srivilliputhur. The temple gopuram is one of the largest in India, truly mesmerising- The temple has three Vishnu deities- Vishnu in standing posture, one in sleeping posture and another A Narasimha diety.. There’s a seperate Sanctum for Devi Andal.. Mobiles are not allowed inside the temple sanctum. Lockers are provided for keeping phones. Never forget to taste the legendary Srivilliputhur Palkova!!! A must visit

This temple is about 10 minutes walk from Srivilliputhur bus stand. Went here on a weekday and this temple was not crowded. From the gopuram which we are we enter the main temple which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Andal temple is situated in left side of the Vishnu temple. We can take mobiles inside the Vishnu temple but mobile phones are not allowed inside Andal temple and mobiles have to be deposited at mobile keeping centres in front of Andal temple. The sculptures at Andal temple are great. Outside of temple on the road there are many shops which sell the famous Srivilliputhur palkova. Srivilliputhur does not have many hotel's or restaurants. Our Lady of Snows Basilica

Venerable Catholic basilica with a colorful altar & wooden statue of St. Mary dating from the 1600s.
A wonderful and peaceful experience after visiting Our Lady of Snows Basilica. A lot of miracles happen here and pilgrims from all over visit this miraculous shrine. I was truly touched by this shrine and the divine presence of mother could be felt. Looking at the beauty of our mother’s face in the altar you just cannot take your eyes away from our mother. Beautiful church both interiors and exteriors and the surroundings too are beautiful. Good parking space, wash rooms, hand wash facilities available here. Spend time with our mother and sure you will benefit in many ways. Amen ! God Bless 🙏🇮🇳

Built in 16th Century, this Basilica dedicated to the Lady of Snows is a magnificent Church located close to the sea shore of Tuticorin. What makes it a minor Basilica ? A minor basilica is a title given by the Catholic Church to churches that are recognized for their historical significance, architectural beauty, and spiritual importance. To become a minor basilica, a church must meet certain criteria and follow a formal process. Here are the key requirements: It must have a historical significance, architectural merits and spiritual importance. This Church has all the 3 requirements. In addition it houses the holy relic of Our Mother Mary's veil ( a small slice). The main Statue brought from Portugal is credited with many miracles. Many of the statues here are brought from France and elsewhere in Europe. You will find that the Church still has strong roots of Catholicism - from the Latin words at the main altar - Sancta Maria - ora Pro Nobis - meaning Holy Mary - Pray for Us, to the grotto depicting Our lady of Lourdes. It even has a statue of our lady of Guadalupe here. If you travel to this part of tamil nadu, this Pani Madha Koil is one of the main points of attraction.

Just about a km and half from the Railway station, normally a cab or tuk tuk drive will cost only Rs.60 to reach the church the local drivers charge anywhere between Rs100-150. Can't crib over it. A quiet laid back place, fishing is the main occupation and business here.

Absolutely a nice and historical church to visit. But if your travelling from a long distance and preferred to stay at the church provided accommodation then please make sure you reach out to the right person with the different contactable number than the one that google advices to contact as it does not exist. Also there are limited rooms currently available and a huge gap in coordination. So, my great advice is to plan for the alternate arrangements for your stay to have a pleasant and divine experience.

Charming and Peaceful Church This church located near to the port area. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the simple yet beautiful architecture adds to its charm. It’s a perfect place for quiet reflection and prayer. Its warmth and serenity make it special. Whether you’re visiting for a service or just stopping by, it’s a lovely place to find a moment of peace.

Awesome experience with family during 10 days festival which will happen from July 26 to Aug 5. Especially this year it was very grand due to gold car festivals which used to happen every 10 years once. You will find more peace in the presence of madha and nearby you have muthu nagar beach where you can spend time with kids. As this church was built during the British period, it is part of tourism. Don't miss it if you visit tuticorin.

Visited the 3000 year old historic shiva temple. It offers a peaceful and calm environment for devotees. You can feel peace and spiritual uplift when you step inside the temple. The crowds on festival days can be large and there's not much lodging options as it is located in a small town. One of the best thing about this temple is 6 foot tall natarajar idol. The arudra dharishanam festival is a major festival because of the reveal of emerald natarajar idol. no waiting in queue if you go there on normal days. One of the must visit shiva temple in the world.

A nice divine temple with a serene atmosphere.. The temple's history goes back 3000 years. Other than the main shrines of the Temple, there are other shrines like Maragatha natarajar, manikavasagar shrine etc which are also main attractions Since recently the Kumbabhishekam ceremony was performed, the temple looks pretty awesome with new paint work..
Harish C — Google review
The history believed to span over 3,000 years, this ancient shrine is one of the oldest Saivite temples in South India and holds immense religious, architectural, and cultural significance. Steeped in mythology, the temple is said to be where Lord Shiva shared the secrets of the Vedas with Goddess Parvati—hence the name “Uthirakosamangai,” meaning "the place of the whispered secret." Another significant legend ties the temple to Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, who is believed to have married Mandodari here, implying the temple's sacredness dates back to pre-Ramayana times. Revered saints such as Manickavasagar and Arunagirinathar have sung its praises, securing the temple’s place in Tamil devotional literature. The temple's crowning jewel is its 6-foot tall emerald idol of Lord Nataraja, believed to be carved from a single piece of maragatham (emerald). This rare idol is covered in sandalwood paste year-round and is revealed only once during the grand Arudra Darshan festival in December–January, drawing thousands of devotees from across the region. The presence of a Sahasralingam—one large lingam embedded with a thousand miniature ones—adds to the spiritual mystique and uniqueness of the temple. Architecturally, the temple is a marvel. The structure features intricately carved pillars, towering gopurams, and majestic yali sculptures at the entrance, with stone balls that rotate in the mouths of the mythical creatures an impressive testament to the ingenuity of ancient Tamil artisans. Each element reflects a perfect blend of devotion and craftsmanship. Festivals are celebrated with grandeur and fervor. Arudra Darshan is the most anticipated, followed by Tirukalyana Vaibhavam in April–May, which marks the celestial wedding of Shiva and Parvati. Other important festivals include Maha Shivaratri, Annabishekam, and Vasanthotsavam. Daily rituals and six poojas are performed with devotion, maintaining the temple's traditional rhythm and spiritual energy. However, despite its sanctity and magnificence, a concerning issue shadows the temple experience preferential treatment given to select individuals who offer bribes or donations in exchange for faster access or special privileges. In a place where every pilgrim should be treated equally before the divine, some temple staff reportedly solicit or accept money in return for prioritizing “VIP” visitors. This leaves ordinary devotees many of whom travel from far, wait patiently in lines, and come with sincere devotion feeling marginalized and rushed through their darshan. Such practices raise serious concerns about fairness and the spiritual atmosphere of the temple. In a sacred space that represents divine equality, any form of discrimination or monetary favoritism is not only inappropriate but also undermines the entire purpose of pilgrimage. Temples should be places where all are welcomed with the same reverence, regardless of status or wealth. To preserve the sanctity of Uthirakosamangai, stronger efforts must be made to ensure that all devotees receive equal treatment. Measures like queue systems, clear signage, structured complaint channels, and dedicated volunteers could help improve the experience. Above all, addressing unethical behavior among temple staff is vital to restoring trust and respect in the temple environment. Despite these modern flaws, the Uthirakosamangai Temple continues to captivate the hearts of those who seek divine connection, artistic beauty, and cultural depth. Its legacy is profound, and its potential to inspire devotion remains untarnished if only the values of fairness and humility are upheld alongside tradition.

That positive energy when you're entering into temple... Wow... This is the first shivan temple which is constructed. And one of the oldest trees is here that is 3000 years old
Mukilan K — Google review
It is one of the most important Shiv temples of Bharat. It is believed that it is the first Shiv temple of the world. Another important aspect is the huge Nataraj vigrah which is housed in a separate sanctum. It is wonderful. It is difficult to imagine how an intricate one piece idol from Emerald would have sculpted. This idol is covered with sandal throughout the year. Only once in a year during arudra darshan festival in Nov Dec the old chandan is removed and new chandan is coated. At that time only one can see the uncoated form of Nataraj. The temple has beautiful colourful gopuram. There is quite a hustle outside temple with shops and parking space. Interiors of the temple are painted well.

A Spiritually Enriching Visit to One of the Oldest Shiva Temples – Uthirakosamangai This was our first visit to Uthirakosamangai Temple, and it was truly a spiritually fulfilling experience. We had been planning to visit this ancient temple for several months, and fortunately, a couple of days’ break gave us the perfect opportunity to finally make the trip. Also known as Mangalanatha Swamy Temple, this historic site is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in Ramanathapuram district, Tamil Nadu. It is believed to be one of the earliest Shiva temples in existence, rich in history, legends, and deep spiritual energy. One of the temple's main attractions is the 6-foot-tall Maragatha Nataraja idol, carved entirely out of emerald (maragatham)—a truly rare and priceless representation of Lord Shiva in his cosmic dance form. Most of the year, this sacred idol is kept covered in sandalwood paste, and it is revealed to the public only once a year during the Arudra Darshan festival. The temple is also associated with a unique and powerful lingam called the Sahasralingam—a representation of 1000 lingams in one single structure, created as a tribute to 999 sages who, according to legend, offered their lives in devotion to Lord Shiva. A Glimpse into the Temple’s Mythology According to temple lore, Lord Shiva once appeared in Ravana’s palace as a child with a small wound. When Ravana tried to pick up the child, a fireball emerged from the temple pond (Agni Theertham). Fearing it was Shiva's wrath, 999 sages sacrificed themselves by jumping into the fire. One sage stayed back to protect the sacred scriptures, and Shiva, pleased with his devotion, appeared as the Sahasralingam. That lone sage is believed to have been reborn as the revered saint Manikkavacakar, who also has a special lingam dedicated to him within the temple. The temple’s name, Uthirakosamangai, signifies the place where Lord Shiva shared sacred knowledge with Goddess Parvati, making it an important center for both devotion and divine wisdom. Our Experience We visited the temple in the evening, and since the temple had recently undergone Kumbhabhishekam (consecration ceremony), it was quite crowded with devotees from nearby towns and villages. Despite the crowd, the experience was serene and well-organized. We could still see the Yaga Kundams (ritual fire altars) used during the ceremony, which added to the divine atmosphere. A highlight of our visit was seeing the ancient 3000-year-old Jujube (Elanthai) tree, which is believed to hold spiritual significance. This temple is also said to grant moksha (spiritual liberation) to 1000 Shiva devotees, further reinforcing its importance in Hindu belief and worship. Final Thoughts This temple is not just a place of worship—it’s a treasure trove of history, mythology, and divine presence. The architecture, the legends, and the spiritual ambiance make it a must-visit for Shiva devotees and anyone interested in ancient temples of India. If you're in or around Ramanathapuram, or planning a trip to southern Tamil Nadu, I highly recommend visiting Uthirakosamangai. Do try to go early or during non-peak hours if possible, especially after major temple festivals, to enjoy a more peaceful darshan. Om Namah Shivaya 🙏🏼

Kushi Beach Resort is a large, tranquil white-sand beach destination offering a calm swimming environment. The resort provides spacious air-conditioned rooms with dining areas, bathrooms, hot water, and TVs. Guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast during their stay. Although the resort does not have its own beach, it is located near Ariyaman Beach where visitors can take leisurely strolls or swim in the less deep waters suitable even for young children.
It is an excellent beach resort. Just 50 metres from the beach. The resort has entertainment too Rooms are elegant and covered entirely by wood. Actually this cottage has four beds too. Innovatively, the TV is located in a separate annexe without disturbing the persons occupied the bed. The restaurant is too good in a thatched shed under the shadow of trees. Excellent ambience. In Ramnad, no other entertainment except this resort. Swimming pool is very big and we can go for a deep swim. The water falls is also there and children would love it. The room is designed round and covered by wood. Very nice . For a functions, it is a good place for conduct in a open lawn and umbrella type dinings are aso there. Room rent is affordable. Good place to spend with the family.

The location of the resort is excellent, close to the Ariyaman Beach. However, the overall maintenance of the property is quite poor. The swimming pool was dirty, and the mini waterfalls were surrounded by an unclean environment. The garden area also lacked proper upkeep. While the food served was decent, the dining and common areas were not well-maintained. The kids' play area had broken rides, making it unsafe and unappealing for children. On a positive note, Mr. Iyappa was very courteous and took good care of us. He even offered small gifts to our kids, which we appreciated. The pricing was reasonable, but the resort desperately needs better maintenance to match its potential and location.
