Dainthlen Falls

Mentioned on
2 lists
Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
Dainthlen Falls is a picturesque park and popular picnic destination, boasting a stunning waterfall in a tranquil landscape. Located in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya, entry to the location is prohibited. The water flow is relatively low during December, making it an ideal time for walking around. However, the monsoon season offers visitors an opportunity to witness the waterfall's true splendor. Tourists can also enjoy wading in the river on the upper bank while taking in the surrounding scenery.
If Meghalaya were a rock band, the Dainthlen Falls would be the lead guitarist – powerful, wild, and with a fanbase that includes both tourists and thunder gods. Located a few kilometers from Sohra (Cherrapunjee), this waterfall isn’t your usual “stand, pose, click” kind of spot. It’s a storybook wrapped in mist and myth, cascading down in unapologetic glory. Why It Rocks (Pun Intended): Unlike its more “vertically inclined” cousins, Dainthlen isn’t about the plunge — it’s about the roar. It sprawls out in a wide dramatic spread over ancient rock formations like nature just dropped the mic. The water flows over these fascinating snake-like grooves that make you wonder — was this made by erosion or a slightly tipsy divine sculptor? But here’s the spicy twist: legend has it that a giant evil python (named Thlen) once terrorized the region until it was slain right near these falls by local heroes. The “Thlen-slaying spot” is said to be the very rocks you now selfie upon. So yeah, you're basically walking on mythological Netflix. Pro Tips for the Insta-Hungry: - Drone shots? Goldmine. The panoramic view is pure desktop-wallpaper material. - Visit during the monsoon or post-monsoon (June to September) for full-volume water drama. - Be careful on the rocks — they’re slipperier than political promises before elections. Travel Tidbits: - No entry fee (your wallet does a happy jig). - No railings either (your mom’s blood pressure spikes). - It’s a lovely picnic spot, but do pack your own snacks and water — unless you're into foraging wild berries and regret. Fun Fact: Local Khasi lore still warns against the revival of Thlen through dark rituals. Yep, not your average touristy folklore. Hogwarts meets folklore in the hills. Wrap-Up: Tha Dainthlen Falls is Meghalaya’s answer to a Viking saga — raw, dramatic, and backed by ancient tales that still echo through the cliffs. It’s the perfect combo of myth, mist, and muscle. Go there not just to see a waterfall, but to feel a story roar beneath your feet.
Rajdeep D — Google review
There’s also a local legend connected to the falls, which adds a nice layer of meaning to the visit. It’s not just a beautiful view — it feels like part of the land’s story. There aren’t many railings or barriers, so you can walk right up to the rocks — but you do need to be careful. The natural setting makes it feel more real than most tourist spots.
Gold T — Google review
Such serene place. Lots of natural cater filled with clean water. Perfect place to relax. Be careful from the mouth as the fall is very deep. Very easy to slip and get engulfed by the fall
Shikhar A — Google review
Dainthlen Falls is one of the most captivating waterfalls in Meghalaya, located near Sohra (Cherrapunji). What makes this place unique is not just the natural beauty, but also the rich folklore attached to it. According to local legend, this is the site where villagers once killed a giant serpent (Thlen) that symbolized greed and evil – making the falls a place of both history and mystery. The waterfall itself is wide, powerful, and majestic, especially during the monsoon when the water gushes down with full force. There’s a viewpoint that allows you to stand right near the edge and witness the breathtaking drop, though visitors should be careful as the rocks can get slippery. The surrounding landscape of rolling hills, greenery, and the sound of rushing water creates a serene yet dramatic atmosphere. Unlike many other tourist spots, Dainthlen Falls is not overly crowded, which makes it even more enjoyable for those who prefer calm and scenic locations. It’s a perfect stop for photography, relaxation, and to soak in the cultural stories of Meghalaya. Truly a must-visit if you are exploring Cherrapunji and want to experience both natural wonder and local legend in one place
Sai Y — Google review
Dainthlen Falls is one of the most majestic and historically significant waterfalls in Cherrapunji. Located just a short drive from the main town, it offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and local legend. The waterfall flows powerfully over a wide rock bed before plunging into a deep gorge, creating a mesmerizing sight, especially during the monsoon season. According to Khasi folklore, the waterfall gets its name from a mythical serpent called Thlen, which was believed to be an evil creature defeated at this very spot. This adds a fascinating cultural and mythical charm to the already dramatic scenery. The area around Dainthlen Falls is open and expansive, offering sweeping views of the valley and surrounding hills. It’s a great spot for photography, picnics, and watching the sunset. The sound of the roaring water and the mist in the air make the experience truly refreshing. Highlights: Powerful and wide waterfall with a dramatic drop Rich local legend adds a cultural touch Open landscape with panoramic views Ideal for photography, picnics, and short walks Tips: Best visited during or right after the monsoon (June–October) for the best flow. Stay behind safety barriers — the rocks near the edge can be slippery. Visit early morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer crowds. Combine your visit with nearby Wei Sawdong and Mawsawa Falls.
Rick D — Google review
Peaceful and beautiful location. Access to the waterfall was closed may be due to the monsoon season but the place surrounding the waterfall is also worth visiting.
Rohan B — Google review
An underrated gem. You get to see from where the waterfall jumps. It's a riverbed, and one can see all the craters and holes a river creates on It's way.
Kousani B — Google review
Nice waterfall Best thing is one can go close to the waterfall and see from the origin The vehicle can go up to nearby parking zone and one can walk till the main waterfall The real fun is in rainy season

NohKaLikai Falls

Mentioned on

Waterfall
Nature & Parks
NohKaLikai Falls, situated near Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, is renowned as the tallest waterfall in India, cascading from a height of over 1100 feet. It's an ideal spot for couples seeking a breathtaking natural spectacle. While swimming isn't recommended and rainbows are not guaranteed, visiting during the off-season offers a chance to appreciate the pristine beauty of the falls and its surroundings.
One of the largest waterfalls in India. The view is mesmerizing. Only problem is that it depends on your luck as the waterfall is sometimes covered with clouds and you can only hear the sound of water but cannot see the falls. The view is very beautiful from the top. There is a trekking route also but it is very strenuous. There are shops which sell local handicraft items, food etc. The entry ticket is Rs. 50 per head. If you get a view of the waterfall your visit is successfully.
Deepak K — Google review
One of the best places in cherapunji. Entry fees 50 ra per head.. wonderful place this is ..but it has a pathetic story behind the name of the falls..A lady named "Likai " jumped from this falls that falls named 'Nohkalikai'.
SABYASACHI S — Google review
Nohkalikai Falls is an amazing plunge waterfall! 🌊 Watching the water drop straight down from the cliffs is mesmerizing. The surrounding greenery and mist make it feel magical — definitely a must-visit in Meghalaya
Shubham P — Google review
This is the best place in Cherrapunji in my opinion. This falls looks stunning to say the least. One can see the blue water it falls in and hear the sound of the water from far away. It is often covered in clouds on a rainy day, but this is very normal in Cherrapunji. I would suggest to wait for some time, it may take 15-20mins, or half an hour, but the cloud will move and the moment the falls is uncovered, the feeling is ethereal. Definitely unmissable and worth it.
Kousani B — Google review
One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Chirrapunji, Meghalaya. From the view point we can get a very clear view of the waterfall. It is an astonishing view indeed. But you have to go during the rainy season in order to get a good of the waterfall full of water. By December, there will only be a trickle. However, the sight is very nice even then. Unlike most other falls, here we have a vertical fall from a tall hill top.
Dr G — Google review
We visited this waterfall in last week of September. Large amount of water was flowing that time. View of surroundings was also very nice. But you can't go near waterfall, and entry ticket was 50 rs. per head, which seem overpriced considering the viewpoint.
Suhit B — Google review
Nohkalikai Falls is truly a wonder of Meghalaya! The view of the water plunging straight down into a turquoise pool is absolutely mesmerizing. The height makes it one of the most dramatic waterfalls in India, and when you stand at the viewpoint, you can feel both peace and awe at the same time. The lush greenery around adds to the magic, making it a picture-perfect spot. There are small local stalls nearby selling snacks and handmade crafts, which adds a charming touch to the visit. I’d suggest coming here in the monsoon season when the waterfall is at its most powerful. The story behind the name also adds a layer of intrigue to the place. A must-visit if you’re exploring Shillong and Cherrapunji!
Shivkumar K — Google review
When I visited Meghalaya, one of the highlights of my trip was going to Nohkalikai Falls. The journey itself was breathtaking — the road to the falls offered an amazing view of the sky and the surrounding landscape. Nature's beauty there is truly beyond words. The lush green hills and the stunning natural surroundings made me feel so peaceful. The view of the mountains was incredibly scenic, and it felt like I was in a different world altogether. At the site, there was a pathway that led upward, and also a viewpoint from where you could see the waterfall from a distance. I went to the viewpoint — although I couldn’t go close to the falls, the view from afar was still absolutely amazing. The waterfall was so powerful and misty that I could literally see rainbows forming through the falling water. It was like witnessing nature’s magic in real time. I took a lot of pictures from the viewpoint — every angle was postcard perfect. Near the area, there were some small local shops as well, where I picked up a few items. Overall, the experience was peaceful, colorful, and unforgettable. If you ever visit Meghalaya, don't miss Nohkalikai Falls — it's a moment of pure nature you’ll always carry with you.

The 5-minute walk from the parking area offers a serene experience with the sound of birds chirping along the path. This is a good walk from the parking lot, but a nice walk through a path, forests, the valley, misty and pleasant . The cave itself when we went, had lost power ( we did not realise ) and was pitch dark. We tried our best to move forward with our phone torches. After maybe a bit we moved back to the exit when the lights came on and made life easier 😀. So we walked back to the entrance and started again . We Could not observe too much on the walls and not too many stalactites, but it was still a good experience which became even more exciting briefly because of the darkness. Not very claustrophobic and mostly can be done walking straight, no need for crouching .

Arwah Cave is an amazing place to explore in Cherrapunjee! The walk to the cave is beautiful, surrounded by lush greenery and scenic views. Inside the cave, we saw ancient fossils, limestone formations, and heard the sound of flowing water echoing through the tunnels—it was truly magical. The path is well-lit and maintained, but you do need to be careful as it can be slippery in some spots. Entry fee is reasonable, and it’s definitely worth it for the experience, adult 50, children 10. A perfect spot for adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts alike!
Rakshitha S — Google review
A long limestone cave very near to cherapunji. It takes about 30 min to explore it properly. The inside part is well lit. But one must be careful about his head as some parts are very short in height. Constant dripping of water make the walking more thrilling. It takes a 20 mins walk from the entry point to the cave and that walking is a fascinating one. Form the view point Wahkaba falls can be seen.
Sukanta M — Google review
The cave itself is very boring and there is no signs or guidance on where the fossils are, we couldn't find any. The walk to it is very beautiful though, the views are lovely. But I wouldn't recommend this cave for any visitors, there are many more interesting places around more worth your time such as waterfalls and viewpoints.

🪨 Arwah Caves – Meghalaya 🌿 The Arwah Caves, also known as the Arwah Lumshynna Cave, are one of Meghalaya’s most fascinating natural wonders, located near Sohra (Cherrapunjee). Location is top notch.. Must visit

The 2nd spot that we visited after visiting elephant falls is Arwah caves in our 2nd day of Meghalaya trip. This is a very pretty place as you have to walk by the mountain side into the cabe and the lane is amazing with huge trees and birds and bugs chirping. The cave also looks very haunted one with big chunks of rocks and boulders. Water was flowing inside the cave sonone has to be very careful. The view of mountains is also amazing you can also see some great falls from here which is dreamy and hids when clouds arrive. Allover it's a beautiful experience here.
Nabyendu D — Google review
Beautiful cave. Very long and narrow at places. One of the must see destinations in Cherrapunji. Nice place where you can see astonishing rock formation. The floor can be very wet and damp and slippery too. So be careful when you go inside. And mind your head; the upper roof is so low at times that your head may bump against the rock above. At times you may have to bend down or kneel down to go through. Though it involves strenuous effort, it will definitely provide an awesome experience.

Waterfalls
The Seven Sisters Waterfall in Cherrapunjee boasts some of the highest and most dramatic waterfalls in India. These falls cascade over picturesque limestone cliffs, creating a stunning view for visitors. While December may not be the best time to visit as only one waterfall may be visible, the viewpoint offers amazing views year-round. Ample parking is available at the spot with many food and shopping options nearby. Located close to Cheerapunjee town, this attraction is easily accessible.
Absolutely breathtaking! The Seven Sister Waterfalls is a must-visit spot in Meghalaya. The view is stunning, especially during the monsoon when all seven streams are clearly visible. Surrounded by lush greenery and misty hills, it’s a paradise for nature lovers and photographers. The place is peaceful and gives a refreshing vibe. A well-maintained viewpoint makes it safe and convenient for tourists. Highly recommended!
Aryan R — Google review
Seven Sisters Waterfalls was a beautiful sight, and I’d rate it 4/5. The cascading streams flowing down the cliffs are truly a treat, especially during or just after the monsoon when the falls are in full force. The viewpoint gives a wide, clear look at the falls, and the surrounding valley adds to the charm. The only drawback is that during the dry season, the flow reduces a lot, which can make it underwhelming. Also, the area can feel a bit commercialized with stalls and vendors around. Still, when the falls are at their best, they’re stunning and definitely worth visiting.
Ragini B — Google review
Seven Sisters Falls, also known as Nohsngithiang Falls, is one of the most breathtaking natural wonders of Meghalaya, located near Mawsmai village in Cherrapunji (Sohra). The falls get their name from the fact that they consist of seven distinct streams cascading side by side down a steep limestone cliff — creating a mesmerizing view, especially after rainfall. The best time to visit is during or just after the monsoon, when all seven streams are in full flow. On a clear day, the sunlight reflecting off the water makes the entire waterfall shimmer, and the view from the viewpoint is absolutely spectacular. The sound of the water crashing down the cliffs and the cool breeze make it a peaceful yet awe-inspiring experience. During the dry season, the water flow reduces significantly, but the panoramic view of the valley and the cliffs remains stunning. The area is well-maintained, with a designated viewpoint, parking facilities, and local food stalls nearby where you can enjoy snacks while admiring the scenery. Highlights: Seven parallel waterfalls forming a majestic view Best visited during the monsoon (June–September) Stunning photography spot with scenic valleys around Easily accessible from Cherrapunji town Tips: Visit in the morning for clear skies and better light for photos. Carry a raincoat or umbrella during the monsoon. Avoid going too close to the edge of viewpoints for safety.
Rick D — Google review
Nestled in the misty, emerald hills of Meghalaya, the Seven Sister Waterfall is a truly breathtaking natural wonder. Also known as Nohsngithiang Falls, this is more than just a single cascade; it's a dramatic spectacle of seven distinct streams plunging over a high limestone cliff. The name is perfectly fitting, as the parallel waterfalls truly look like a group of sisters dancing down the verdant rock face. Reminder:- Don't go at night or early morning, it's very risky because of the weather.
Gaurav B — Google review
Seven Sisters Waterfalls is one of the most breathtaking sights in Meghalaya! The view of seven cascading streams flowing down the steep cliffs is absolutely mesmerizing, especially after rains when the waterfalls are at their fullest. The entire valley looks magical, surrounded by lush green hills and misty clouds drifting through. There’s a nice viewpoint from where you can see all seven falls clearly, and the breeze there feels refreshing. It’s peaceful, scenic, and perfect for photography. The best time to visit is during or right after the monsoon when the water flow is strong. Overall, it’s a must-visit attraction in Cherrapunjee — nature at its finest! 🌧️✨ PS: There was no water in any of the falls when we visited (October end)
Rakshitha S — Google review
My summary & recommendation If you’re planning a visit, here’s how I’d sum it up: Go for it if you’re visiting Meghalaya (especially around the Cherrapunji / Sohra / Mawsmai area), you like nature, you appreciate scenic vistas and waterfalls, and you can time it when the rainfall has been strong. It’s particularly good during or just after monsoon seasons: you’ll see the falls in full flow, the streams distinct, the landscape vibrant. If you visit in the dry season, reduce your expectations a little: you’ll still get a scenic view, but the “seven streams in full force” image may not be as dramatic. Bring appropriate gear: proper footwear (for possibly slippery paths), a rain-coat or umbrella (weather is changeable), and time your visit for good lighting (morning or after rainfall often better). Use the viewpoint rather than attempting to get dangerously close to the falls—safety first.
Karishma R — Google review
This is a breathtaking cascade that tumbles gracefully down the cliffs of Meghalaya, creating a mesmerizing display of nature’s beauty. Surrounded by emerald hills and often adorned with rainbows in misty weather, it feels like a living painting. The roar of the water and the panoramic view from afar are truly unforgettable. Visiting during the monsoon offers the most spectacular sight, making it a must-see for anyone seeking serenity and awe in the lap of nature.

The park features Japanese-style gardens with round-shaped hedges, willow trees, and small ponds. It also houses a modest zoo where visitors can see Himalayan birds, deer, and other local fauna.
One of single park cum zoo in shillong. Very beautiful full of greenery and clean area. I had been to this place way back in 2011. Again when I visited recently it was changed a lot sa they are planning to shift entire zoo in new biological park in sumer. This place is always favourite for couples to spend some quality time.

A great place to hangout with friends and family. The zoo portion of the park is now closed, but the rest of the park is quite big enough to hangout and maybe have a picnic. There is enough play area for children, an ideal place for kids.

Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this park is a true gem for those seeking tranquility and a breath of fresh air. Divided into two delightful sections, Animal Land and Kids Park, it offers a serene environment perfect for relaxation and family fun. While Animal Land is currently closed due to an exciting government initiative to transfer the animals to the state zoo, this space is being thoughtfully redesigned to include additional public facilities and a convenient parking lot. The Kids Park is a paradise for children, featuring a variety of engaging activities such as swings, seesaws, and merry-go-rounds. It is a haven of laughter and joy, where little ones can play freely and safely. A really beautiful and peaceful place. Very quiet from the busy city. You can visit the park with your family, friends or your partner. Sadly, the animal park was closed due to shifting of the animals so we didn’t get chance to see any animals but roaming around the park itself felt so good and relaxing. A must visit place for tourists. P.S. Don’t litter and keep the park neat and clean 🚯

Loved this place ,enjoyed visiting after a long time. Our little Argha enjoyed a lot playing there. Sad part is zoo is closed for maintainance. Garden is now blooming with Camelia ,Azelia and many other season flowers. Maintained nicely people can spend some time in the nature. We could show Argha only Pelican, and some ducks. Still she was happy. Only the water bodies need some cleaning and maintenance. Ticket price Rs 20 /adult, Rs10/children below 12 years. Still camera charge is Rs.50

Shillong View Point, also known as Shillong Peak, is a popular destination for tourists and day-trippers. Located at an altitude of approximately 2000m above sea level and about 10km from the heart of Shillong City, it offers panoramic views of the city during the day and a mesmerizing sight of city lights at night.
Shillong View Point, also known as Laitkor Peak, truly deserves a 5-star rating. As the highest point in Meghalaya, at 1966 meters, the panoramic views are simply breathtaking. Located roughly 10 kilometers from Shillong city, the journey to the peak is an experience in itself. You'll need to park at the ticket counter and then take a short taxi ride through an Indian Air Force area, which adds a unique touch. The drive, though only 3 kilometers, is a peaceful and scenic ascent, maintained at a gentle 30 km/h. Keep in mind that this tranquil spot closes relatively early, around 4 PM, so plan your visit accordingly. The serene atmosphere and stunning vistas make it an unforgettable destination.

Shillong Viewpoint at Laitkor Peak was a mixed experience for me. The view itself is absolutely breathtaking—you get a sweeping panorama of the city, the hills, and on a clear day it feels magical, almost like floating above the clouds. That part really lived up to the hype and made the visit memorable. What disappointed me, though, was how commercialized the whole place felt. Instead of focusing on showcasing culture or giving visitors a deeper experience of the region, everything seemed centered around selling things—photo ops in traditional Khasi attire, snacks, and trinkets. The charm of the natural setting gets a bit overshadowed by the push for money. Despite that, I can’t deny the beauty of the viewpoint itself. The scenery makes it worth a visit, but the experience could have been so much richer if it celebrated the culture as much as the view. For me, it’s a solid 4/5.

“Where clouds guard the city of dreams.” From Shillong View Point, the world below looks like a painting — misty hills, tiny homes, and a city wrapped in clouds. Shillong Peak: A Panoramic View with an Unexpected Twist Shillong Peak is one of the highest points in Meghalaya, offering an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the entire city and the surrounding hills. Standing at over 6,000 feet above sea level, the peak provides a breathtaking vantage point where you can see the lush landscapes, rolling hills, and the beauty of nature stretched out before you. On a clear day, the view is truly mesmerizing, with the clouds floating just above the city and the green hills fading into the horizon. One thing to note, though, is the presence of an army base nearby. While I was enjoying the serene atmosphere, I was startled by the sound of gunshots. It turns out there was army training happening in the vicinity, which added an unexpected and somewhat intense element to the experience. Although the gunshots were a bit jarring at first, it wasn’t a major disruption, and it reminded me of the strong military presence in the area. The drive to Shillong Peak is equally stunning, with winding roads and forested paths leading you to the top. The military guards at the entrance are friendly, and the area is well-maintained. Be prepared for some light security checks since the peak is located within a restricted military zone. Overall, Shillong Peak is a must-visit for anyone coming to Meghalaya. The view is unmatched, and while the gunshots from the army training might catch you off guard, they don’t take away from the natural beauty of the place. Just a small quirk of the experience that adds to the uniqueness of your visit!

Ward's Lake, also known as Pollock's Lake, is a picturesque non-natural lake located at the heart of Shillong city. Surrounded by lush green gardens and brightly colored flower beds, it serves as a popular attraction for both locals and tourists. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks around the horseshoe-shaped lake or simply relax amidst the vibrant flora.
🌟 Ward’s Lake – Shillong’s Little Slice of Peace Ward’s Lake is a beautiful escape right in the heart of Shillong. Surrounded by manicured gardens, colorful flowers, and shaded walking paths, it’s the kind of place where you instantly slow down. The highlight for me was the charming wooden bridge in the middle—it gives you a picture-perfect view of the lake and the reflections of the trees. Entry is just ₹20, and you can rent a pedal boat for a relaxed ride on the water. It’s clean, well-maintained, and perfect for families, couples, or even solo travelers looking for a calm stroll. The orchids and seasonal blooms add a splash of color, making it a photographer’s delight. In short: peaceful, well-kept, and a refreshing green break from the city’s buzz.

Ward’s Lake in Shillong was my second travel destination, and I had a really peaceful and pleasant experience there. The park is quite large and spread across a big area. It is located right along the main road, so it’s easy to find. There is an entry ticket, and plastic bottles or any kind of plastic items are not allowed inside, which helps keep the place clean and eco-friendly. Inside the park, there are many trees, a big lake with a lot of fish, and small birds flying around. Visitors often feed the fish, and the overall atmosphere is very calm and close to nature. The park is well maintained. Cleaning staff are present and regularly keep the area clean. There is also a small section near a pool where you can rent traditional local dresses and take photos, which is a fun experience. A small café inside the park offers light snacks and drinks, so you can sit and relax for a while. This place is good for walking, relaxing, spending time in nature, and clicking photos. I would definitely recommend visiting it if you're in Shillong.

Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians

Mentioned on

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the serene Laitumkhrah locality of Shillong, the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians stands as a stunning testament to faith and artistry. This 20th-century Roman Catholic church, built by German missionaries in 1913, is renowned for its breathtaking stained-glass windows and intricate sculptures that adorn its Gothic architecture. Following a devastating fire in 1936 that destroyed the original wooden structure, this magnificent cathedral was constructed on an artificial sand basin designed to withstand earthquakes.
A Must-Visit Landmark in Shillong The Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians in Laitumkhrah is one of the most iconic and peaceful places in Shillong. Steeped in history, the Cathedral stands on the site of the first Catholic Church built in 1913 by German missionaries. Though the original structure was destroyed by fire on Good Friday in 1936, the current cathedral—built in the 1940s and consecrated in 1947—carries a strong legacy of resilience, faith, and beauty. The architecture is strikingly modern Gothic, built on beds of sand to withstand earthquakes. Inside, the terracotta artwork and stained-glass windows—crafted in Germany and France—beautifully depict the life of Jesus Christ and various Biblical scenes. Don’t miss the Grotto Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Calvary Hill, where a life-size bronze crucifixion statue and the Stations of the Cross add to the spiritual atmosphere. It’s especially moving during Good Friday when special devotions are held here. The Cathedral offers not just a place for prayer, but also a serene escape from the bustle of the city. Whether you're religious or simply appreciate art, history, and quiet reflection, this place is worth visiting. Tip: Visit in the evening for a peaceful ambiance, and take a few moments to read the information board at the entrance—it gives rich context to everything you'll see.
Sarbjeet S — Google review
Nestled atop the serene Laitumkhrah hill in Shillong, the majestic Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians isn’t just a place of worship – it’s a sanctuary where time pauses, noise fades, and the soul takes a deep, quiet breath. A striking piece of architecture wrapped in calm and character, this cathedral is as much a spiritual experience as it is a historical one. A Heavenly Blend of Faith and Form Built in 1936, the cathedral is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and is the principal church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Shillong. Its design is an elegant mix of Gothic and Indigenous styles, blending high arches, stained glass windows, and local artistry into a structure that feels both majestic and grounded. What sets it apart, quite literally, is its location on a hillock, making it visible from miles away — like a lighthouse of faith. The sky-blue exterior contrasts stunningly with Shillong’s often misty skies, creating a canvas that photographers, poets, and peaceful wanderers would agree is divine inspiration at work. Fun Facts to File Under “Did You Know?” - The cathedral was constructed on sand-filled grounds to withstand earthquakes — a wise move in a seismically active region. - It houses the grave of Archbishop Hubert D’Rosario, a revered figure who served the region with tireless devotion. - During Christmas and Easter, the cathedral is a beacon of celebration, with elaborate nativity displays, lights, and hymns that can warm even the chilliest Shillong night. Reverent Review The cathedral isn’t just a monument, it’s a meditative experience in blue and white. Whether you're religious or simply a lover of quiet architecture, this place offers solace. The chirping of birds, the whiff of incense, and the echo of prayers create a soundtrack that stays with you long after you leave. Pro Tip: Visit on a weekday morning. Less crowd, more calm. And don’t forget to light a candle – sometimes, peace starts with a flicker.

A very beautiful church with lots of history and many sayings. It has a double stored building type structure which is pretty good. Also, the color of the church matches with the sky and I heard somewhere this church can withstand earthquakes as well. They have made this church so beautiful. Before going, read about the history of the church and then go. There is a packing space also for vehicles on the top and there are some associations as well. It feels good to be there for some time.

Most Beautiful Church in Shillong. A Soulful & Unforgettable Experience! Even though I’m a Hindu, I’ve always felt drawn to peaceful, spiritual places and this church in Shillong truly touched my heart. It's beautifully built across a large area and has two levels both the upper and lower sections are stunning and calm. The entire church is so picturesque that I couldn’t stop taking photos. Every corner was beautiful and serene. But beyond the beauty, what made this visit unforgettable was a very special moment. I wanted to light candles as a prayer, but unfortunately, there was no shop nearby. I was a little disappointed. Just then, a local person saw me and kindly offered me a candle. When I tried to pay, he smiled and said, "You’ve come to God’s house it’s free. Please take it." That moment was so pure and touching. I’ll never forget his kindness it made my entire trip feel truly blessed. This place is not just a church; it’s an experience of peace, humility, and connection beyond religion. Whether you're spiritual or not, this is a place you must visit in Shillong. Highly recommended truly a must-visit! 🙏✨

Laitlum Canyon, located atop the Khasi hills in Meghalaya, offers breathtaking panoramic views of lush green hills, deep valleys, and beautiful cloud-covered landscapes. The area is often compared to the Scottish highlands due to its resemblance. To reach the canyon, visitors can enjoy a scenic drive through winding roads surrounded by verdant landscapes.
One of the best place to visit. Such a beautiful view of the valleys and clouds. Soft breezes with cold weather throughout the months and it just makes you feel the peace. Great place to sit and chill with friends and family. You must visit if you are planning for a vacation in Meghalaya.

I recently visited Laitlum Canyon, and it was truly one of the most wonderful experiences of my trip to Meghalaya. If you want to feel close to nature, this is the perfect place to visit. Located around 70 km from Shillong, the drive itself is scenic, passing through beautiful hills and local villages. Once you reach, the view is absolutely breathtaking — vast green valleys, steep cliffs, and clouds floating right beside you. It genuinely feels like standing in the middle of the sky! You can easily spend the entire day here, just soaking in the peace and natural beauty. Many visitors bring their own food, and you can even cook or have a picnic while enjoying the cool breeze and stunning views. There are also a few small local shops near the parking area where you can buy tea, snacks, and refreshments, which adds to the charm of the place. Parking is available and costs ₹50 if you’re coming by car. The locals who manage the place are friendly and helpful, making the visit even more enjoyable. What I loved most about Laitlum Canyon is that it’s still less commercialized and peaceful, offering a raw and pure connection with nature. It’s a paradise for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone looking for a calm escape from city life. Overall, Laitlum Canyon is a must-visit spot near Shillong. The views, the atmosphere, and the feeling of being surrounded by clouds make it an unforgettable experience. 🌤️💚

About 70/75 mins drive from Shillong. We were lucky with the weather, having gotten there early in the morning. Nice cool breeze blowing the mist over , giving us a wonderful view of the canyon / valley below. Grassy Knoll which makes for fantastic pictures. Uniqueness about this place was it combines a lovely view with the grassy meadows - two places in one ! Parking is quite good and pay and use washrooms. Some small shops close by with basic quick eats. Tickets are 20 per person and parking for cars is 50.

Beautiful tourist destination in Meghalaya. Ensure that it is in your itinerary when you visit Meghalaya. Ample space for parking and enough area to move about. One of the best places for photography. When you reach the spot, the beauty of the place will force you to linger there for some time. Children will love it particularly. Though it is not as marvellous as the Grand Canyon in the USA, this is quite fine, with beautiful blue hills and deep valleys everywhere.

My visit to Laitlum Canyons was an absolutely unforgettable experience! I was completely mesmerized by the view from the moment I arrived. The name "Laitlum" (meaning "end of hills") is so fitting. The valleys are truly awesome; they are vast, sweeping, and stretch out as far as the eye can see, looking like a painting. Seeing the clouds roll through them is magical. I also loved the weather during my visit. It was so pleasant and fresh, which just made the entire experience perfect. Standing there, taking in that incredible scenery with the beautiful weather, was a moment of pure awe. I can't recommend visiting Laitlum Canyons enough. It’s a stunning piece of nature that truly captivates you and one of the best viewpoints I've ever seen.

The Living Root Bridge in Riwai Village, also known as the Umshiang bridge, is a 17-meter-long double-decker root bridge and one of the oldest in Meghalaya. It is easily accessible and resilient, making it popular among visitors. The trek to the bridge is approximately 450 meters through lush greenery with stalls selling fresh fruits along the way. The bridge, grown from the roots of rubber tree species, offers a unique natural wonder over a flowing river stream.
After visiting Mawlynnong village we went to living root bridge spot where a bridge was created by the roots of the living trees. The waterfall here is beautiful and very soothing. By sitting here for sometime you can feel calmness. There is also a small trekking point here at the top of the hill where we can see Bangladesh viewpoint. This place is also a must visit as you can see beautiful views of mountains and waterfalls from here.

The Riwai Living Root Bridge, located near Mawlynnong village in Meghalaya, is a wonderful example of nature and human ingenuity working together. Made from the living roots of ancient rubber trees, this single-decker bridge is a natural marvel that has grown stronger over decades — even centuries — as the roots intertwined to form a sturdy walkway across the stream. The short trek to reach the bridge is scenic and refreshing, with stone steps leading down through lush green forest. Along the way, you can hear the gentle sound of running water and birds chirping, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Once you reach the bridge, the view is simply magical — the living roots arch gracefully over the stream, and the surrounding greenery makes it feel like a scene from a fairytale. Unlike the more challenging trek to the Double Decker Root Bridge in Nongriat, the Riwai Living Root Bridge is easily accessible and ideal for families, elderly visitors, or anyone who wants to experience Meghalaya’s famous root bridges without a long hike. Highlights: Naturally formed living bridge made from tree roots Short and easy trek through beautiful forest Peaceful atmosphere with great photo opportunities Close to Mawlynnong, the “cleanest village in Asia” Tips: Wear comfortable footwear — the path can be slightly slippery. Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds. Respect local customs and avoid damaging the roots. Combine the trip with a visit to Mawlynnong village.

It's a pure magic. The trek down is refreshing and gives you a real sense of adventure, and crossing the bridge itself feels like stepping into a world where nature takes the lead. The surrounding forest, the stream below, and the bridge’s intricate roots make it a peaceful yet unforgettable experience. Perfect for anyone who loves wandering off the beaten path and soaking in natural wonders.

Living root bridges are natural bridges found in the Indian state of Meghalaya, created by guiding and weaving the aerial roots of the Ficus elastica (rubber fig) tree across rivers. This ancient tradition, practiced by the Khasi tribe, involves training the roots over bamboo or betel nut scaffolding, with the process taking 20–25 years to complete. These bio-engineered structures are incredibly strong, sustainable, and grow stronger over time. Key facts Location: They are primarily found in the East Khasi Hills and other mountainous regions of Meghalaya, India. Strength: Some of the older bridges can support the weight of 50 people or more. Sustainability: Unlike conventional bridges, these root bridges are living and self-renewing, with the trees continuing to grow and strengthen the structure over time. Cultural heritage: They are a significant part of the local Khasi culture and are considered a UNESCO World Heritage contender.

Living root bridge is a naturally formed bridge out of the roots of Ficus Elastica tree. Such living roots are common in the entire state of Meghalaya. This bridge is one of the more popular bridges. Located a few kilometres away from Mawlynnong village, you will have to pay a nominal entry fee to enter. A 10 minute downhill climb will take you to the bridge. The bridge itself is brilliant. You can relax below the bridge near the flowing clear water. Near the entrance, you will find walking wooden sticks which you can use and then donate a nominal amount of Rs 10 once you return the stick. In the parking, you will find lots of shops for buying souveniers and eatery stalls. If you are visiting Mawlynnong, then make sure you visit this place which is nothing but one of nature's marvel.

Ratargul Swamp Forest is a unique freshwater forest that offers visitors a chance to experience the beautiful natural habitat of submerged trees during monsoon season. This swamp forest showcases wildlife and the plantation of the area, making it one of the best tourist spots in the country. During dry seasons, visitors can walk around on low water levels, but rainy seasons bring out its true beauty. A boat ride through narrow gaps provides an incredible view of nature's best offerings.
Ratargul is a unique freshwater swamp forest in Sylhet, offering boat rides through submerged trees during the rainy season. The experience feels surreal and adventurous, especially for nature photographers. It is well-preserved and provides a rare glimpse of Bangladesh’s natural diversity and seasonal beauty.
Bēlāl Ū — Google review
Ratargul Swamp Forest is truly one of the most unique and magical places I’ve ever visited in Sylhet. Known as the only freshwater swamp forest in Bangladesh, this place feels like stepping into a different world. The calm water, tall trees half-submerged, and the peaceful silence all around create an unforgettable experience. The best way to explore Ratargul is by boat. As the boat moves slowly through the flooded forest, you can hear birds chirping, water rippling, and leaves brushing against the surface — it’s pure tranquility. The green reflections on the water make it look like a scene from a movie. During the monsoon season, when the water level rises, the forest becomes even more alive and beautiful. Boatmen there are friendly and act as local guides, sharing stories about the forest and its wildlife. There’s also a watchtower nearby from where you can get a stunning view of the whole swamp area. Ratargul doesn’t have many shops or restaurants, so it’s best to carry your essentials. But honestly, the peaceful natural beauty here makes it worth every moment. If you love nature, photography, or quiet adventures, Ratargul Swamp Forest should definitely be on your travel list. 🌿🛶

Ratargul Swamp Forest is truly one of the most beautiful and unique places in Bangladesh. Often called the “Amazon of Bangladesh,” it offers a calm and breathtaking escape into nature. The journey through the still waters surrounded by tall trees feels magical — especially during the rainy season when the forest is fully submerged. The boat ride is peaceful, and the reflection of the trees on the clear water creates an almost dreamlike atmosphere. The watchtower gives a stunning aerial view of the entire forest, perfect for photos and quiet moments. Local boatmen are friendly and knowledgeable, sharing stories about the forest and its wildlife. It’s best to visit early in the morning for a serene experience, avoiding the crowd and heat.

Great place to visit. Wonderful experience on a boat to explore the swamp forest! Note: But you need to bargain for the boat price. Around 1k-1.5k will be in range.

definitely this place is awesome. but travel medium that means the boat and the entry free is a too much high and this is a Syndicate and it should be eradicate from that place not only that if you want to take paid cameraman then you have to aware of your picture.
Faruk O — Google review
It's the country's only freshwater swamp forest. During our visit in this rainy season, the water level was high enough to reach till the boat ghat. The color of the water was far better than we anticipated, and the trees were submerged perfectly. During the dry season, it is possible to walk some distance, which gives a different vibe. The watch tower was temporarily closed at the time, so we couldn't get an aerial view. We booked a CNG from Sylhet, but the roads were too uneven and muddy, which forced us to exit the vehicle multiple times.
Mehedi F — Google review
One of the best iconic places in Sylhet. Monsoon is the best time to visit. During the peak times you need to wait for the boat reservation so start very early morning to avoid crowds. Don’t forget to bring umbrella even if it’s not raining.

Even the beauty of October amazes me! I will definitely return to experience the splendor of the rainy season. Whenever you board the boat, ask the boatman whether he can sing🌹

Bodies of Water
Wah Umngot is a stunning river known for its crystal-clear waters and lush surroundings, making it a popular spot for boating and kayaking. Visitors can expect a serene experience once they embark on a boat ride, despite potential challenges such as unstructured booking processes and limited food options. The beauty of the clear greenish water and the opportunity to glimpse Bangladesh in the background make the wait for a boat ride worthwhile.
Visited in Sep 2025. The boat area is quite unorganised and almost feels like a fishing lagoon where they smuggle people over the border 😀. That part of the road is broken and quite narrow, park car and walk down. I had read about the place so knew not to expect the crystal clear waters at this time of the year ( only in the winter months , post all rains). The boating as such was nice (400 per person - maybe overcharged not sure ). It was a very warm day so at about 2:30 pm it was quite hot specially when you went closer to the Bangladesh border which was a really cool and first time experience for me. We took good pictures and I hope this place is maintained well for future generations.. The extra star is for the uniqueness of the experience but the place needs to be developed with proper parking area / landing space and kayak/ boat facilities. I cannot even imagine how the place would be crowded in season times.
Avinash V — Google review
The Umngot River in Meghalaya is a breathtaking natural wonder known for its crystal-clear waters, often described as so transparent that boats appear to be floating on air. Located near Dawki, this river offers a surreal experience as its turquoise waters flow serenely between lush green hills. The stunning clarity of the river, especially during the dry season, makes it one of the most picturesque spots in India. A boat ride on the Umngot River is a must-do, providing a peaceful and magical experience as you glide over its glass-like surface. The surrounding landscape, with its steep cliffs and verdant vegetation, adds to the scenic beauty. Whether you're a nature lover, photographer, or adventure seeker, the Umngot River offers an unforgettable experience of Meghalaya's natural splendor. It's a perfect spot for a relaxing escape, with opportunities for boating, picnicking, and simply soaking in the serene atmosphere.

Do not visit here during the off season[summers]. Here in thhe rainy season you will at least see a few small waterfalls falling from the hills. But in summer's it is a MUST SKIP destination. You will see muddy water all along. The boat driver had also advised us only to come to this place in winters. You will find a lot of rush all year round due to the hype created. The boat ride is also overpriced at around 1200rs per boat(3people max in a boat). But yeah you can see the Bangladesh border up close on this boat. Even if you visit during off season, do not come with expectations(but you may be lucky to find a lil clear water). PS: The boat drivers are extremely kind and informative. Do interact with them [Also ask about their Bangladesh experience :) ]
Shuban K — Google review
We were really looking forward to seeing the famous crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River, the kind where you can spot the shadow of your boat on the riverbed. Unfortunately, it had rained heavily the night before we arrived, and the water turned muddy, so we didn’t get to witness that. Nonetheless, it was still beautiful and so peaceful. We went boating near Shnongpdeng village, and it was a lovely experience, totally worth it despite the weather. If you’re lucky with clear skies, this place is a dream. But even with the rain, it’s still an experience of its own kind. Definitely recommended !

I went in October end, but water was not clear may be due to construction work there. But boating experience was amazing.

Umngot River is very specially known for its Cristal clear water river located in Dawki area of Meghalaya and is a very popular tourist destination of Meghalaya. The river shares its part in neighbouring country bangladesh also and in this tourist place only you can see the bangladeshi people also enjoying the beauty of nature in the other part. Umngot river of Meghalaya enjoys the status of the cleanest river in the country. The water is so clear that the boats are seen floating on the glass. The experience of knowing the mesmerizing beauty of nature and the unique culture there will be different and interesting for you. The river Umngot is not only clear, the view nearby is also very beautifulbut around it. Situated amidst lush green forests, people also compare this river with the river flowing in heaven. It flows through the town of Dawki in East Jaintia Hills district near the India-Bangladesh border, 85 km from Shillong. People also call it a hidden paradise in the hills. November to April is the best time to visit here. Boating is closed during the monsoon. All the tourists including foreigners also can have their quality time with the view and feel of nature.

The water is crystal clear . We had a very nice experience and boating in the river is one of the best experiences and so calming . But the saddest part is it's not going to be clean for many days as you can see people throwing all the wastes like water bottles, plastic wrappers, beer cans and etc. in the river . Also people are bathing in the river carelessly and making it dirty 😒..

This lake located near Jowai offers a peaceful vibe. Found the lake to be in a neglected condition due to lack of maintenance. It has the potential to become a major tourist attraction if properly maintained.
Abunaser I — Google review
We visited the lake in the afternoon, and to be honest, it turned out to be quite an ordinary experience. The surroundings were calm and peaceful, but there wasn’t much activity or scenic charm to make it stand out. The water looked still and somewhat dull under the afternoon sun, and there were hardly any visitors around, which made the place feel rather deserted. While the quietness could appeal to someone seeking solitude, it lacked the liveliness or natural beauty one usually expects from a lake destination. Overall, it was a simple, average spot — pleasant but nothing particularly memorable.

One of the beautiful falls in West Jayantia Hills. It is a hidden waterfall actually, not so many travellers come here to enjoy the beauty. The trees and the colourful leaves make it more beautiful. Actually, it is a cascade, not a proper waterfall. There are paddy fields also which get benefit from the water. Such a Photogenic waterfall this one is. You can capture nice pieces of photographs for you and your partner. You just need to come down to the bottom. Then you will feel the actual version of it. There are plenty of flowers, I Don't know the names bit they seem to be the permanent residents of this area.

One of the more unique water fall experiences ever. Walking through / surrounded by Paddy fields to the two tiered cascade. Went early in the morning so it was not much crowded . About 350 steps and a path one way down so it is not very tough but for a couple of sections on the way back when you get the sun on you. The water is so cool and you are tempted to get under the falls. Clean and well maintained and makes for amazing pictures. The air feels so fresh and sweet smelling thanks to all the vegetation. Shall be of the favourite parts of my Meghalaya visit. Best visited on your return trip from Dawki to Shillong if you plan it that way - along with Krang Suri falls and Narthiang.

Tyrshi Falls, located near Jowai in the West Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, is a stunning and lesser-known waterfall that showcases the raw beauty of the region. Nestled amidst rolling hills and dense greenery, this waterfall offers a peaceful escape for travelers seeking tranquility away from the more popular tourist spots. The waterfall cascades gracefully over rocky cliffs into a natural pool below, surrounded by lush forest and misty hills. The gushing water, combined with the cool breeze, creates a refreshing and serene atmosphere. Unlike heavily commercialized waterfalls, Tyrshi Falls maintains its pristine charm and is perfect for photography, nature walks, and short picnics. The approach is moderately easy, with a scenic walk through greenery and small local trails, making it accessible for most visitors. The area remains relatively quiet, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the soothing sounds and sights of the waterfall. Highlights: Beautiful waterfall in a peaceful, offbeat location near Jowai Surrounded by lush greenery and scenic hills Ideal for photography, relaxation, and nature lovers Less crowded, offering a calm and authentic experience Tips: Best visited during or after the monsoon (June–October) for full water flow. Wear comfortable shoes, as some parts of the trail can be slippery. Carry water and snacks; facilities are limited nearby. Visit during daylight hours for safety and the best views.

Entry fee is Rs 30 per adult and parking is at an additional Rs 50.

Tyrshi Waterfall, often called the ‘twin of Shillong’s Elephant Falls,’ is a hidden gem near Jowai in Meghalaya. The waterfall is wide and elegant, cascading down gracefully amidst lush greenery, making it a picture-perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers. What makes Tyrshi special is the scenic approach – you get to walk through golden paddy fields on a beautiful stone pathway with over 100 steps leading down to the viewpoint. The peaceful walk itself feels like a journey into nature’s lap. From the bottom, the view of the waterfall is absolutely breathtaking, especially during the monsoon when the flow is at its peak. Unlike more commercialized waterfalls, Tyrshi is relatively less crowded, which adds to its charm and serenity. You can truly enjoy the sound of rushing water, the cool breeze, and the calm surroundings without much disturbance. It’s an ideal spot for a relaxed visit, photography, or just spending quiet moments away from the rush. If you’re in Jowai or planning a trip around West Jaintia Hills, Tyrshi Waterfall is a must-visit destination that beautifully captures the raw and untouched beauty of Meghalaya

My trip to Meghalaya was an unforgettable experience! The state truly deserves its title as the “Abode of Clouds.” The natural beauty of the hills, waterfalls, and caves was breathtaking. Visiting places like Cherrapunji, Dawki, and Shillong was the highlight of the journey

If you are looking for peace and natural beauty, Tyrshi Waterfall is the perfect hidden gem in Meghalaya. Located near Jowai in the Jaintia Hills, this waterfall feels like a postcard come to life. 👉 Highlights: To reach the waterfall, you need to walk down around 300+ steps, surrounded by lush greenery and stunning views. From the pathway, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Jaintia Hills. During the monsoon season, the waterfall looks even more majestic and powerful. The place is usually less crowded, making it calm and peaceful for nature lovers. 💡 Tips for Visitors: Wear comfortable shoes as the steps can be a bit slippery. Carry a camera – the scenery here is extremely photogenic. Best time to visit is during the monsoon for the full experience. ⭐ Overall Rating: 4.7/5 👉 A must-visit spot in Meghalaya, perfect for those who love nature, photography, and peaceful surroundings.

Tyrshi Waterfall near Jowai in Meghalaya offers a stunning, serene experience for visitors. The waterfall is tall and mighty, cascading down rocky cliffs surrounded by lush greenery and scenic paddy fields. The trek to the base, via well-maintained steps and a picturesque arch bridge, makes the visit extra special, offering panoramic views of the valley below. The atmosphere is peaceful and uncrowded, as Tyrshi Falls remains relatively unknown compared to other spots. There are no vendors or tourist crowds—just the sound of birds, rustling leaves, and the magnificent rush of water. The best time to visit is after the monsoon, when the water is at its most impressive, and the landscape is vibrant. The walk down can be tiring but is entirely worth the effort for the spectacular views, cool mist from the falls, and the tranquility rarely found elsewhere. One can enjoy nature walks, photography, and even a refreshing dip in the natural pool, but packing snacks is essential as there aren't any shops nearby. Tyrshi Falls is an ideal day trip for families, nature lovers, and those seeking solitude and the raw beauty of Meghalaya.

Feels like home… but with better WiFi and a cooler owner I stayed here for a few days, and honestly, I’m starting to think I might just “accidentally” forget to leave. The house is so cozy it feels like it gives you a hug the moment you step in. Everything is spotless (seriously, I dropped a cookie on the floor and considered eating it—don’t judge 😅). And the owner? Absolute legend! Not only super helpful and kind, but also has a great sense of humor—basically part-time host, part-time stand-up comedian. They made sure I felt comfortable, guided me around like a local, and even shared stories that made me laugh harder than Netflix. If you’re looking for a place that’s safe, warm, and comes with free smiles, this is it. Just be careful—you might end up liking it so much that you’ll start calling it “home” too!

I stayed with my friends here for a night. Very neat, hassle free - clean homestay. This is the closest stay to the waterfall. I stayed in 5 different places in all 5 days of my Meghalaya trip, but Krangsuri homestay stood out. Food was amazing and host Youri speaks perfect English and so friendly! She helped us the next day being our guide to the waterfall and explained all the history of it! I recommend this homestay for families and also solo travelers! One homestay that I don’t mind going back again!!

The location is breathtaking, surrounded by lush greenery, rolling hills, and a peaceful atmosphere that truly lets you experience the beauty of Meghalaya. What made this stay truly special was the personal touch—by the hosts esp yourimem went out of their way to share stories about the culture, suggest hidden gems to explore, and even guided us to some offbeat spots we would have otherwise missed. If you are looking for a homestay that gives you not just a place to sleep but a heartfelt experience of Meghalaya’s hospitality and beauty, this is the place. Majestic and serene, Madhabkunda Waterfall is a true natural gem. The cascading water, surrounded by lush green hills, creates a refreshing and peaceful escape from the city. A must-visit for nature lovers and photographers alike.
Naim R — Google review
Quite good. Felt refreshing into the nature. But don't expect too much from such natural places as it is an 'eco park'. There is nothing more to see other than vast greenery and the waterfall. Sometimes they restrict to go under the waterfall. There is 3D movie theatre and local utensil shops in front of the spot. 3D movie was 2.5★. Try first hours to enjoy the utmost as there remains less crowd at that time.
Munem R — Google review
Madhubkundu Waterfall, yes this is a very beautiful place but here are so many disadvantages. 1) Ticket price is very high 23 taka compare to this place. 2) After entering this place, if you want to go down and walking along the stream bed you have to give 10 tk for each person. 3) The worst part you can't go close to the waterfall because of their so called safety issues. 4) Except moonsoon season, they use motor water to continue the waterfall running.

Madhavkunda waterfall is situated at moulvibazar district.Madhabkunda waterfall is present in Baralekha police station of Moulvibazar district. It is the only famous waterfall in Moulvibazar district. It is more or less continuously supplied with water from the spring all the time of the year but it is maximum during the monsoon season.

Really beautiful. You have to walk for about 20 minutes from the entrace to reach the waterfall.
Jannatul T — Google review
We went there on a monsoon season, so we were able to see the beauty of this waterfall. Some informations for the travellers: 1. It's quite far from the big cities like Mouluvi Bazar, Sreemangal etc. 2. If you bring car & the Google Map shows you a shortcut route, don't take it. Just follow what local says. 3. Again if you bring a car, watch out for reverse speed breaker. It does damage to your car. 4. The Madhobkundo Park closes at 5 PM. 5. The jungle area is untouched. But some artificial things will be seen between the jungle which is very annoying. 6. You'll need to walk a mile or two to get to the waterfall. 7. Don't swim, if you're not a good swimmer. Please those who are going, don't litter that place. It's heartbreaking.

I was truly amazed and thrilled when I reached the waterfall after 3 hours of travelling. It is so much worth everything when you see the waterfall with rain together.

This used to be the 2nd largest biggest paper mill of Asia. The township was consistently ranked amongst the best in India. Those like me who have been fortunate enough to spend their precious childhoods during it's golden era, can't compare this marvelous place to anywhere else in the world, in terms of scenic beauty, vibrant culture and warmth of people. These mills used to be highly productive and these townships were vibrant with multicultural people, melting pot of different religions, a true Mini India ! I miss those most beautiful years of my life spent there and will cherish those Memories for lifetime. Can't come in terms with the pathetic condition from last few years and heartbreaking news of people, whom I have known closely. hope the government seriously takes up the initiative to revive back all those mills and provide the due aids to the employees waiting since years.. Wish, all of us who are indebted to this mill could have joined hands towards a mission that would have saved this dying mill.. please don't abandon the helpless people who are waiting for years to receive their dues. Lets do something for the land and people, who made us today what we are !!!

Visited Sree Kanchkanti Mandir in Silchar, and it was a truly peaceful and spiritual experience. The temple, dedicated to Goddess Kanchkanti, has a serene ambiance and a rich history. The architecture is simple yet beautiful, and the surroundings are well-maintained. The divine energy of the place makes it perfect for those seeking blessings and inner peace. Devotees from across the region visit to offer prayers, especially during festivals when the temple is beautifully decorated. Located a little outside the city, it’s a must-visit for anyone in Silchar. The calmness and spiritual vibes make it a great spot to connect with divinity. Whether you’re religious or just a traveler exploring Silchar, this temple is worth a visit. Looking forward to visiting again, especially during festive times to witness the grandeur of celebrations!

Good nice temple. Joy maa kachakanti. It's situated next to the main road and nice location. It's one of the main tourist destination in Silchar. People from mail town and throughout Assam come here to take blessings. Less crowd and nice ambience. Only thing is here the concept of sacrifice still happening, which is the only demerit, rest all good. Once again I recommend the place, but if possible I suggest management to remove the sacrifice rituals. Thanks for reading my review.

The visit to the INA Museum provided a remarkable opportunity to explore the remnants and photographs of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, gaining a deeper understanding of his life. Notably, the last known picture of Netaji at Manipur airport, now converted into an army camp, was viewed. As a resident of West Bengal, it was fascinating to learn about Netaji's entire journey here.
Must see when anyone is visiting Manipur . It tells us about the past and great contributions of the Indian National Army and Azad Hind Fauz.

It was a true revelation to me, after knowing a bit about Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose to eventually see and learn much more about this famous Indian personality and a National hero. The museum is really a place to visit in Manipur. Very educational and impressive. Pictures courtesy INA War Museum.

A nice place for Netaji Shubash Chandra Bose memory. This place contains all the old pics. Also there is a last pic of Netaji coming out from the aeroplane in Japan before his death. A big size statue of the same has been erected inside this war museum. A must visit place if you want to see and learn a brief history of Myanmar annexation of Imphal and Kohima.

A fascinating piece of Indian history comes alive here. Apart from being the first place to hoist the Indian flag in 1944 in Indian Peninsula (First place was in Islands of Andaman and Nicobar in 1943). The museum has guns and artifacts used from WW2 and memorabilia of uprising led by Netaji. It also has a very intresting and detailed map of how he travelled over land and sea, prior to his untimely demise. A small entrance fee will get you in. No photographs allowed inside and the place is maintained in excellent order, a must visit for every patriot and history buff!

Lokatak Lake, located in Manipur, India, is renowned for its breathtaking beauty and unique ecosystem. Here's an affective feedback overview: **Positive Aspects:** - **Scenic Beauty:** Visitors often describe Loktak Lake as mesmerizing due to its floating phumdis (heterogeneous mass of vegetation, soil, and organic matter). The lake’s vast expanse, with its serene waters and lush greenery, offers a tranquil and picturesque environment. - **Unique Ecosystem:** The lake is home to Keibul Lamjao National Park, the only floating national park in the world, which adds to the allure. The sight of phumdis floating on the water is a unique experience that captivates many. - **Cultural Significance:** Loktak Lake holds cultural importance for the local communities. The fishing activities and traditional lifestyles associated with the lake make it a culturally enriching destination. - **Wildlife:** The lake is a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers, with numerous species of birds and other wildlife inhabiting the area. **Negative Aspects:** - **Environmental Concerns:** Some visitors express concern about the environmental degradation of the lake due to pollution and human activities. This has impacted the lake’s ecosystem and the overall experience. - **Accessibility:** The journey to Loktak Lake can be challenging due to its remote location. Some travelers find the lack of infrastructure and amenities to be a drawback. - **Seasonal Fluctuations:** The experience of the lake can vary significantly with the seasons. During the dry season, the lake may not be as expansive, and the phumdis may appear less impressive. Overall, Loktak Lake is highly valued for its natural beauty and cultural richness, though environmental and logistical challenges can affect the experience.❣️❣️

Loktak Lake is a breathtaking destination and a must-visit for nature lovers. The sight of the floating phumdis, unique to this lake, creates a mesmerizing landscape that feels almost otherworldly. The calm and serene atmosphere makes it perfect for a peaceful retreat. Visiting the Keibul Lamjao National Park, the world's only floating national park, adds an adventurous touch, especially for wildlife enthusiasts. The local communities are welcoming, and the cultural connection they have with the lake adds depth to the experience. However, the lake is facing environmental issues like pollution, which are noticeable in certain areas. Efforts towards conservation are evident, but more needs to be done to fully restore its pristine condition. Overall, Loktak Lake offers a unique blend of natural beauty, wildlife, and cultural richness that makes it a memorable experience.

Its around 30-35km drive from main imphal city. But it's worth it. Its the largest natural freshwater lake and a famous tourist attraction. You can go to boating here though the charge is not per head basis, it will take around 600 for upto 6 people for 30 min ride. If you go there try to go to the top and have some food on the restaurant situated there, you will get the food with a great view.
