Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum is a grand and ornately designed complex located in Nanjing, China. The mausoleum pays tribute to Dr. Sun Yat-sen, one of the founders of modern China. The site features a steep staircase leading to the impressive structure, which was developed between 1926 and 1929. The picturesque region symbolizes Dr. Sun Yat-sen's dedication to the Chinese people and their struggle for independence.
An awe-inspiring historical site! Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum is a beautifully designed monument dedicated to the founding father of modern China. The architecture is grand, and the view from the top of the hill is stunning, with Nanjing spread out below. The peaceful surroundings and serene atmosphere make it a perfect place for reflection and learning about China’s revolutionary history. A must-visit for history buffs and anyone exploring Nanjing!

Great place to visit in nanjing. Tickets for foreignerd can be purchased at the tourist information center near KFC. Food stores are available before the entrance of mausoleum. The walk upward is tiring, the stairs does not look steep due to multiple landings but I got tired walking upward. Beautiful view of the city from the top. The mausoleum is beautifully designed but picture taking is not allowed inside.

Nice to visit in late Oct where the weather is just below 20C, the Mausoleum is majestically huge and has a very view at the top, you will need to pre book for free using wechat app.
Will T — Google review
A beautiful scenic view. The stairs aren’t so bad as they look initially. The actual mausoleum was closed for conservation or something when I visited but it’s still a good place to go. At the base there are drink vending machines, coffee shops and tourist shops. It’s extremely busy even on a week day so I recommend to book in advance online on the WeChat mini program - you can scan a QR code at the main park entrance before you get there.

Really beautiful place in a rather large park. Read up on the history in advance. Take a shuttle to the entrance for 10rmb.

Went here during Autumn. Weather is good, not too crowded and clean :)

Historical landmark with lots of stairs. Building was undergoing restoration January 2025, so was unfortunately covered by scaffolding, but could still enter the Memorial Hall with Sun Yat Sen's statue. Bit of a rigorous climb, with very nice views at the top...saw some kids slide down the slopes beside the stairs on the way back down!

Nanjing's Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, built in 1405 for Ming Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, is a massive complex featuring pathways and statues. The mausoleum is part of the scenic area on Purple Mountain, where visitors can pay tribute to martyrs, enjoy the flowers and scenery, appreciate the beauty of the ancient capital's mountains and rivers, and experience the tranquility of the royal garden.
Mausoleum for the emperor Zhu Yuanzhuang. Burial mound is actually underneath the hill behind the big gate house, which can be climbed. There is a small display inside. Preceded by a tree lined path flanked with statues of animals and generals. Tickets required to enter this area

Great place for historical visit. The place is a restoration but still a good visit if you are in nanjing. The mausoleum is massive and the walls are high.

Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum 明孝陵 🚶🏻‍♀️‍➡️Self-Guided Walk Overview A beautiful & historic walk through one of China’s grandest imperial mausoleums, filled with symbolic gates, bridges, ancient platforms & restored structures. Each stop reveals a different layer of Ming ritual culture & architectural innovation. ⸻ Civil & Military Fangmen 文武方门 The main gate of the mausoleum. The original 5-passage structure is long gone, but the current single-opening Qing-era gate still marks the formal entrance into the ceremonial axis. A stone plaque inscribed “明孝陵,” carved with cloud-dragon motifs, sits above the doorway. 🐢 Imperial Stele Pavilion 御碑亭 Just north of the Fangmen stands a grand imperial stele, about 4 metres tall & 1.5 metres wide, mounted on a stone tortoise (bixi). This pavilion marks the official start of the inner ceremonial route. 🔥 Divine Silk Furnace 神帛炉 After passing the Stele Hall, on both sides of the imperial road are 2 small glazed-tile censers. These were used to burn “divine silk” — inscribed strips of silk used in rituals to call back the spirit of the deceased. Sacrificial Hall (Xiaoling Hall) 享殿 The original hall was destroyed in 1853. The building seen today is a later replica, now functioning as a small souvenir shop. It marks the location of the mausoleum’s main offering hall. Site of the Front Gate of the Sacrificial Hall 享殿前门基址 Although the hall no longer survives, its impressive platform, front & back stairways & cloud-dragon relief stones remain. The massive foundation — about 60 m by 27 m — shows how monumental the original Ming building once was. Inner Red Gate 内红门 About 20 metres north of the Sacrificial Hall. In the Ming era, this gate had 3 doorways & small tiled rooms inside where eunuchs lived & worked. The gate base is large, with walls extending from both sides to divide the 2nd & 3rd courtyard areas. Ascension Bridge 升仙桥 Immediately after the Inner Red Gate stands this grand stone bridge. Its name symbolises crossing into the “realm of immortals.” Damaged railings & dragon-head carvings were restored in 2005 using traditional stone-carving techniques. Square Wall & Ming Tower 方城明楼 The final & most impressive structure before the emperor’s burial mound. The Square Wall is a massive stone fort-like building with a deep arched tunnel (54 steps) leading through it. Above sits the Ming Tower, once topped with yellow-glazed tiles & decorated with fine brick carvings. This Ming-era innovation creates a solemn, majestic atmosphere, emphasising the emperor’s supreme status. ⸻ ⭐ Overall A wonderfully preserved historical route rich in symbolism & architectural detail. The combination of gates, platforms, bridges & the towering Square Wall makes the walk feel both serene & monumental. A must-visit for anyone interested in imperial history or Ming architecture ✨

The Xiaoling Tomb of the Ming Dynasty is the most important tomb of the Ming and Qing emperors in China. It is located on the southern slope of Purple Mountain, east of the historic center of Nanjing. Good Visit during China Tour

Amazing place, nice walking route, good experience to visit a famous ancient emperor in China.

It was a unbelievable nice experience to see, how such a nice place can be built by human beings several hundred years ago. For me it is still a outstanding performance to erect such a nice place without having high technology machines on hand as we have them today. Appreciate the kindness of the local people and would love to come back to China as soon as possible.
Moritz G — Google review
A huge burial ground which you need to be prepared to do a long walk. Beautiful and massive tomb though especially the awesome Stair! The down side is the package for getting in, was ridiculous. Just a sight seeing tour. Just a one time visit trip.

Xuanwuhu Park

Park
Nature & Parks
The Xuanwuhu Park is a large public park situated in central Nanjing. It is well-maintained and has a variety of trees and gardens, making it a popular spot for locals to take walks or relax. The atmosphere is relatively peaceful and romantic, with enthusiastic locals enjoying the early morning or late afternoon sun. Visiting the park is free while entry to the park itself costs 30 yuan at the time of writing.
I went to the park randomly. The park is huge, walked almost all the way however since it was late, I was afraid to stay locked in. Peacefully chilling, walking from the island to the island. Street musicians, benches and escaping from the noise of the city - if this is dream place for you, I would recommend it.
Lané — Google review
A large urban park, great for photos. Peaceful, not too crowded like a lot of other tourist areas. Can see the city skyline across the lake. Lots of walking, or can take the small shuttle bus. Can rent a boat and go out for a paddle. Several entrances, and close to the subway and train station.
5H1 N — Google review
It's a pretty nice park with plenty of paths that wind their way across the lake and to the various islands. It is big enough to be able to escape the crowds, of which there are many. There are some weird little areas like an abandoned theme park (that you're not allowed into) or some locked decaying temples. But these things give it character. There are also good views of the city across the lake.
M. V — Google review
Nice but unfortunately the sty wasn't that clean so I couldn't enjoy the amazing landscape

It is one of the best experience to stroll a beautiful park; while it's snowing! A must visit in Nanjing, maples and bonsai everywhere. An absolute stunning park.

The lake is surrounded by the iconic Nanjing Wall and boasts lush gardens with various flora such as willows, cherry blossoms, lilies, and maples. A peaceful escape in the heart of Nanjing! Xuanwu Lake is a beautiful place to relax, with scenic walking paths, charming pavilions, and lush greenery. The lake offers stunning views of the city skyline, especially at sunrise and sunset. You can take a boat ride, explore the small islands, or simply enjoy a leisurely walk. It’s a perfect spot for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking for a break from the busy city life!

Walked the 10k loop. Get away from the main gate areas and it gets a little quieter. Spoiled though with piped-in music (for why?). Shady walks, lovely lotus fields and greenery.
Malcolm A — Google review
A big lake turned into a tourist scenic area. While it does not look bad, due to Chinese smog the scenery is a little less beautiful. The scenic area has some sites which I personally think is not that impressive. Still it’s a nice place to spend some time.
Allen L — Google review
It's an urban park in the downtown. Definitely a great place to capture the city skyline, you may also just rent a boat and ride it to spot the whole city skyline. The only problem is that the area is a bit crowded.
Jacky T — Google review
A perfect morning escape at Xuanwu Lake! The crisp, cool breeze and peaceful surroundings made for such a refreshing walk. Ideal for clearing your mind or starting the day with calm energy. After your morning walk at Xuanwu Lake, head over to the nearby Nanjing City Wall! It’s the perfect follow-up—historic views with that same refreshing outdoor vibe.
00Y — Google review
Going to Jiming Temple always involves a side trip to Xuanwu Lake. Or sometimes it's the other way around. I love Nanjing as a city, open and tolerant, with places and people I love. I have stayed in this city for 8 years, and when I have the opportunity, I always like to come to Xuanwu Lake to take a walk, blow the wind, and relax. This season's wind is a little cool, the water of the lake is a little cold. The park was as crowded as ever. In Nanjing, Xuanwu Lake is still to walk a few more times. Feel the passage of time from summer to winter quickly.
Windy Z — Google review
Nice park in the heart of the city. Went there for a morning run, plenty of other folks running, walking there. Clean, crisp air.
Anand S — Google review
Went with my girlfriend today and spent a few hours there. We took a little tour bus for ¥30 each and it lasted about 20-30min I think. They stopped twice for us to get out and the 2nd time was when the tour was over. We walked around the gardens and island all the way to where there was a pagoda. They have boat rides which were too much money and you have to pay to go on the wall which we weren't gonna pay for. Plenty of little souvenir stands and places to eat and drink.

The Nanjing Ming Dynasty City Wall History Museum showcases the impressive architectural feat of the city walls, with Zhonghua Gate standing out as a formidable structure. This gate, also known as the Gate of China, resembles a castle and was heavily guarded with firing positions. Built under the first Ming emperor's rule, these walls are distinct from other Chinese cities' walls due to their flowing and winding construction.
A stretch of Nanjing old city wall. Has a small display inside with historical information. Great views
5H1 N — Google review
It’s really nice to walk on the ancient city wall. At the entrance on the west side of the wall there are a lot of people but once you walked a bit direction east, there are barely any people and you can enjoy the peace and quiet. Towards the end on the east side where the wall ends, there is abeautiful little park on a hill with an old pagoda. Everything here feels much more authenthic than the overly renovated attractions in the city center. Entrance fee is 15rmb and no queue.

Jiming Temple, also known as Ancient Jiming Temple, is a serene Buddhist temple located near Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing. Dating back to the Western Jin Dynasty, it is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the city. The temple boasts tranquil grounds and is renowned for its well-known vegetarian restaurant. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere while exploring the temple's historical significance and taking in the beautiful surroundings. It's a must-visit destination for those interested in experiencing traditional Buddhist culture and architecture.
Beautiful place, feels very calm and peaceful here 😌 I went there early in the morning around 8:30 and only a few people were there. After 9:00 it starts becoming busier. You can buy a ticket at the entrance (10 yuan). After you enter if you turn right and go all the way along the wall you can find a pond, it can also be accessed from the top. Pictures can be taken only outside, inside is not allowed. There is a delicious vegan canteen at the top with a nice view of the mountain ⛰️ Highly recommend to visit!
Artem L — Google review
I did not enter the gate but I heard the comments that the temple is not worth paying to visit. If you just want to take nice photos, can consider visit the 古城門 in the north of the temple, just 10 mins walk. You can take photos of the temple on the wall.
Michael H — Google review
A serene escape in downtown Nanjing! This 1,700-year-old Buddhist temple offers stunning city views, especially during cherry blossom season. The golden rooftops against modern skyscrapers create perfect photo contrasts. Entrance ¥15 (includes incense)
Hoai V — Google review
Jiming Temple is one of Nanjing’s most atmospheric Buddhist sites, offering a calm retreat amid the city’s historic core. Its traditional halls, incense-filled courtyards, and hillside layout create a serene setting, while the pagoda provides classic views over Xuanwu Lake and the city wall. Even at busy times, the grounds remain orderly and pleasant to explore. Easy access from the lake and nearby wall makes it a convenient stop on a cultural walk.
Karen G — Google review
A peaceful escape right in the city, full of history, culture, and a very calm, sacred atmosphere. I went there during the summer, and although the heat and humidity were quite intense, the experience was still worth it. The entrance fee was just 10 yuan, which I found very reasonable. I bought a jade bracelet from one of the small shops inside the temple complex. It wasn’t too expensive, just a nice souvenir to brought home with. The temple was quite crowded, especially near the main prayer areas, but it didn’t ruin the experience for me. People were generally respectful and quiet. The lady at the gate didn’t speak fluent English, but she was super kind and tried her best to help. I recommend having a translator app ready just in case, but honestly, navigating the temple is pretty intuitive. Overall, Jiming Temple is a must visit if you're in Nanjing, especially if you love spiritual or historical places If I'm going back to China again, I'll definitely visit more of Jiming temple
Che — Google review
One of the nicest temple in China that I've visited that doesn't cost alot. Entrance fee is merely 10YUAN. Architecture wise, it's a beautiful temple that requires you to climb up. Not so elderly or disabled friendly. Kinda commercialised buts that's the trend now, else how would the temple survive? There is a vegetarian restaurant at the end of the walk and price is quite reasonable. If you manage to find a tblr near the window, will have a good view of the famous wall as well.
Mesh P — Google review
It's a nice enough temple and it's in a very scenic location, next to the city walls and very close to Xuanwu Lake. But you can see the entire thing in about 30-40 minutes and it gets very crowded, especially on weekends. Tickets are cheap but you have to do it all through QR code so it isn't very international tourist-friendly.
M. V — Google review
This serene temple, nestled just beside the Nanjing City Wall, rewards visitors with a peaceful retreat—but be prepared for a bit of a hike to reach it. Perfect for quiet reflection or a scenic break!

The Presidential Palace is a historic Baroque building that has been restored after World War II. The compound, which dates back over 600 years, features lush inner gardens and a blend of Chinese and European architecture. It played a significant role in the 20th century as the government headquarters for prominent figures such as Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Chiang Kai-shek.
Historical office and halls where Sun Yat Sen and Chiang Kai Shek worked. Integral part of Nanjing history when it served as the capital of the Republic of China, after the end of the Qing Dynasty. Suggest allowing about 3 hours to walk around the compound, more if you plan to read everything. Would recommend booking tickets in advance, since they can sell out pretty quickly.

Affordable tickets with the standard available discounts as everywhere in China. Can buy online in advance to save time. Definitely can’t miss a visit to this place when you’re in Nanjing. Very interesting history spanning ancient China, the taping rebellion, WW1/2, the ROC and the PRC years. Very beautiful blend of old and modern architecture. Probably worth 2-3 hours here to walk around the various buildings, gardens, etc. Many of the signs are only in Chinese at the various exhibitions around the palace.

for 40rmb its Poor, you need a valid ID (passports for foreigners) to buy tickets (Photo of Passports is fine too), Nothing inside screams out presidential Palace to me Just a Large residenctial area. mostly a garden and small gift shops. Its pretty boring and you should spend most of your nanjing time doing other activties or gardens rather than this place. Its basically a Garden with a small museum section. There are baggage storages inside as soon as you enter the gate, incase if your doing this before you leave NKG or dont have much time.

Nanjing Presidential Palace (南京總統府) is an historic site which hugely reflects the modern history of China from Ming Dynasty (明朝) to Republic of China (中華民國). This building was the capital of Taiping Kingdom of Heaven (太平天國) and Republic of China (中華民國) as the most important culture heritage. When I strolled this building, I was encompassed with the beautiful and warm historical poetry. It is very recommended for every history fanatics to mark this place in the itinerary.

The site of the Nanjing Confucius Temple; this is a center of Chinese national culture. On the banks of the Qinhuai River, you are able to take river boats from here or even an old fashioned rickshaw ride if you should like. You will be greeted with the prevalent effervescence of Chou Do Fu! as you traverse the multitudes of unique curious shops and arts vendors; hand hammered jewelry, hand pulled confections, and tasty delights which you possibly may have not seen before. Spend the day here and you will find interesting antiques and unique food markets in the vicinity as well. A worthwhile destination.

(Translated by Google) This is where the tombs of Confucius and his father are located. It is a famous tourist destination in Nanjing, so it is recommended as a must-visit place if you come to Nanjing. It would be nice to look around along the stream in the center, and if you didn't eat, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a leisurely meal at a restaurant adjacent to the stream and enjoy the atmosphere. Most of the shops around sell tourist products, so I didn't have any unusual experiences. There is also a tourist course where you can take a boat along the nearby stream, but I recommend taking it in the evening rather than during the day. It was nice to have a bit of a Hoi An feel in Da Nang, Vietnam. The Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders is a somber museum that commemorates the tragic events of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre. This memorial was built to honor over 300,000 victims who were slaughtered during this dark period in history. The exhibits include artifacts from the era such as weapons, eyewitness testimony, and photographs, documenting the horrors of the massacre.
A deeply moving and powerful memorial. The Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre is a solemn place that preserves an important part of history. The exhibits are well-presented, with photographs, personal accounts, and artifacts that provide a heartbreaking yet essential insight into the tragedy. The atmosphere is respectful and reflective, reminding visitors of the importance of peace and humanity. A must-visit for those who want to understand history and pay tribute to the victims.

The Nanjing Massacre is a historical event that is not as well-known in the West as the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany, and in my opinion, it tends to be overlooked. The Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall is a must-see when you are in Nanjing. The only downside is how crowded it can get, which can make it hard to fully immerse yourself in the exhibits as you follow the constant flow of people. Admission is free, but foreign visitors should remember to bring their passport, as it's required for entry.
Tiago G — Google review
A place to remember how cruel the war was, is probably the only place in China where you have thousands of visitors and yet the atmosphere remains heavy and silent. The hall exhibits why Japanese attacked China, the local life back then, how brutatlly thousands and thousands of Nanjing citizens were killed, how the local and foreigners survived in Nanjing, leaft the place with a heavy heart. Do book in advance on Wechat, the open slot easily get fill up.
Will T — Google review
Must visit this memorial hall if you are visiting Nanjing. No entry tickets needed but you need to make an online booking via WeChat - It can be tricky to make a reservation for foreigners. Alternatively, you can try walk-in and show your passports to the manual counter. We were allowed to enter without reservation.
Yee A — Google review
The statues outside at the beginning are just grotesque. I get that's the point but I found them to be in poor taste in my opinion. However the inside is very well done and powerful, especially the first room with portraits of the victims. The museum emphasizes peace, which is good as it easily could have fallen into anti-Japanese fervor. I'm relieved to report it is a mostly objective museum about a very dark period of modern history. If we don't learn about the atrocities of the past, we're doomed to repeat them. Unfortunately these kind of atrocities are not confined to the past. Horrific events like the Nanjing Massacre are still happening today in places like Gaza, Darfur, Ukraine, etc. It is up to us to stop war crimes and genocides from continuing to happen.
M. V — Google review
The Memorial Hall is a must visit in Nanjing, but we were disappointed to learn that entry requires advance booking via WeChat—which isn’t accessible for international visitors without WeChat Pay. A heads-up for fellow travelers: arrange tickets beforehand or check alternative options to avoid missing out.

A must visit Museum when you visit Nanjing, a recent memory shared amongst the people in remembrance of atrocities committed to the people of Nanjing. As you walk in you can see the frames of most victims of the Nanjing Massacre and also those whom had survived and still live on with the memories. You need to book in advance (Free) but recommend to donate some money when you enter. *Foreigners will require a Passport to enter*. It is truly a sad place, the museum is very detailed with many monuments, pictures and archives exhibited for people to see. “remember history and cherish peace, so as to create a better future”
Kuan-Yu C — Google review
Very good museum if you want to find out more about war history of Nanjing. Very crowded too. Pro-tip for foreigners - you do not need to reserve tickets on wechat since you may not be able to. Just go to the counter in-between gates 1 and 7 by the main road and talk to the counter personel and produce your passport. They will give you a printed QR code ticket for entry.

This is the biggest lake park in the city. You can walk around the park and it's divided into different parts like, cherry blossoms park, zoo, camping areas, sports area, riding boats, and the rest are for walking and jogging😀😀😀😀😀 it's often crowded

The lake has nice walkways under trees around it. The only issue Maanshan sometimes faces is poor air quality due to iron manufacturing and coal powered power stations. This reduces visibility and often prevents a clear view to see far.

There are two ways to go up. The longest is doable and 3 hours or go the hardest routes which takes 1 hour. The hardest splits into 2 different trails, one being steeper but takes the same amount of the time. Along the way there are cute things to do like drink tea and smash the cup for being brave for walking on the glass bridge or so I was told by my Chinese friends. It was a fun hike.
Heinly G — Google review
This was one of the most epic experiences I've had in China. Whether you're looking for a thrill, crisp air ( hard to find in China ) or nature at its best, this place has it all. The hike is steep and tiring, so be sure to wear comfortable clothing. There are stalls situated strategically along the hikimg trail so you don't have to carry your own drinks. Fortunately, there is an option of taking the cable cart ascending or descending at a fairly reasonable price and I'd suggest taking it if its a really hot day or if you're doubting fitness. Whether you use the cable cart or hike yourself, the glass bridge is spectacular and absolutely breathtaking. I would strongly recommend visiting this place.

The place is very good. we took high speed train to Fanchangxi station and once we got off from there, there were so many taxi drivers. we took a taxi for 80 yuan and we were shared for each cost around 20 yuan. there were about 3 Km walk from the road to the ticket point and we paid 60 yuan for the glass bridge. we had special ID card and park entrance were free for us and it should be around 30-40 as remember. then it was a very hard journey for top of the mountain and before the glass bridge can see the statues and climb the mountain. it is not advice to carry little babies and bit difficult, little hard journey. before enter to the glass bridge these is a refreshing area for side view and LED screen with animations. its kind of relaxing your mind and refresh the journey. the bridge is waving and some times scaring , but its fun and about bit long way to cross the bridge. please keep your strength to climb down of the mountain after the bridge. you can have juise and fresh fruits from the shops and bit expensive like 30 yuan for one cup of fruits. its interesting to have journey to this location where close to Nanjing. so finally it is a a very good place to enjoy

As soon as you enter on the right side you will find a lake where you can take a ride on a water bumper car or jump on a rope, several shooting gallery or virtual reality games, a beautiful temple and some kiosks where you can eat inside a bamboo park. you can choose whether to walk up to reach the bridge or use a small cable car (40 yuan each way). Once at the top, to cross the bridge you have to queue again and pay 80 yuan. The view is breathtaking and the experience unforgettable. Took a high speed train from Hangzhou to Mt JiuHua on 11 June 2025. Mt JiuHua being 1 of 4 sacred mountains in Buddhist pilgrimage in China. It's the seat of Kitsigarba Bodhisattva. Booked a seat in their business class. Do not have to queue to enter the gate. In fact, I'm amongst the first few travellers to go down the platform , to enter the train carbin to my allocated seat. The seat cushion was comfortable . There's a display panel at the front of the cabin displaying the original station & final destination, the train speed and the station name where it stopped. Toilets & hot water dispensers were available at each end of the cabin. The whole ride was extremely smooth and I could rest, even sleep during the 2 hour plus journey. Ticket cost S$55-63. An excellent experience.
