Gardner Cave

Caverns & Caves
Wonderful Cave tour in Crawford State Park. Our guide was very informative and presented a lot of information regarding the history of the cave and how it was found. It is an hour long tour and reservations are required. You can do so on eventbrite. My favorite part was when the lights go dark and you can see the photo luminescence of the rock with a black light. It is cool in the cave so be sure to bring a warm jacket. There are many steps up and down and it is uneven ground. There area is well lit. It is a bit of an informational tour so, small kids may get bored quickly. Would definitely recommend this activity if in the area.

Highly recommend! ✅ Be sure to make an online reservation in advance. ✅ There’s good parking, restrooms, and picnic tables available. ✅ Bring warm clothes — it’s cool inside the cave. We were lucky with our guide. Such a kind and polite person who explained everything in a very clear and engaging way. My son was truly impressed. Before or after your visit, check out the two beautiful nearby dams. If you have a drone, you’ll enjoy getting a unique aerial view.
Mark A — Google review
Absolutely positively awesome! Our guide was knowledgeable and experienced. I never knew Washington had caves like this! Well worth the slight switchbacks up to the entrance. But you must make a reservation! Let me repeat that you have to make a reservation! Go to the website. 39 degrees inside and when it's hot outside that's very nice!
Steve B — Google review
Nice 50 minute tour. Excellent talk from the Park Ranger. Small cave but still very nice. The temperature in the cave is colder than most at an average 39 degrees. This place is way out of the way. While you are there check out the Slash by walking the quarter mile trail to the border with Canada.
M M — Google review
You must make reservations to go in/ and do the cave tour. We were unaware of that and lucked out because they had two last-minute cancellations tour guide was wonderful. Very interesting tour and the cave was really really cool!
Tessa I — Google review
Absolutely loved this experience. Our tour guide Sandy was incredibly informed and did a great job teaching us all about the history of the cave and surrounding community as well as all the geological information about the cave. We will definitely be back. The drive alone was worth the visit.
Molly D — Google review
Awesome tour guide. Very cool formations. Make sure to make your reservation online before going. Definitely worth a trip.
Tessa A — Google review
Very fun and informative tour. They were very kid friendly. It’s also a free tour, but you need to reserve ahead of time and you’ll need a discover pass to park.

Kootenay Lake

Lake
Transportation

Kootenay Lake, situated amidst the Selkirk Mountains, is a large lake with beaches and parks surrounding it. It has year-round ferry service and boasts of a unique floating stage for music festivals. The lake is clean and has multiple bays, but could benefit from additional on-lake fueling stations. The area also holds historical significance due to closed mining and timber operations.
This is one drop-dead gorgeous lake in British Columbia, Canada. I was 13 the first time I had the privilege of visiting this inspirational lake and the forests that surround it. The people have always been inviting. If it was a place that I called home, I'd want to keep it a secret. Word of mouth travels fast, but the internet blows it out of the water. It will forever be changed, now that its secrets have escaped our grasp! This is a place that was created by Mother Nature and shaped by Father Time. It is truly stunning when seen in person. Pictures don't give you the jaw-dropping moments that you will experience.😲 It is a bucket list worthy destination and something that I can only describe as an all sensory experience!🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁 The lake is about 65 miles long, and about 3 miles at its widest and is approximately 490 ft deep. The water is very cold, and if it's not a HOT (can't emphasize the word hot enough. Lol) summer day, it can take your breath away. I've seen all kinds of boats on this lake, but on windy days, it tends to draw sail boats. They've got plenty of room to navigate. There's trails, numerous beaches, and plenty to see while you're here. There's also a ferry crossing on the northern end of the lake, taking you from the eastern shore of the lake to the western edge. While you're here, stop and see The Glass House. It was made from embalming bottles and has amazing views of the lake and surrounding mountains. As always, leave no trace (please), leave it better than you found it (please), and enjoy 😉, please!
R. S — Google review
Fantastic lake, clean, great beaches and fabulous bays. It would benefit from at least two additional on-lake fueling stations for power craft. Lots of history dots the shorelines from closed mining and timber operations.
Richard R — Google review
AMAZING! This lake is HUGE and provides great fishing (if you are lucky) great water sports and often calm waters. Great place to leave your worries behind for a week or two. Clean great water, surrounded by mountains, great private camping spots if you hike in or have a boat. Stop at Creston for fresh fruit in the summer.
Kailey E — Google review
A beautiful lake with many small beaches where you can relax during summer. The lake is pretty cold but at a hot summer day swimming in there is the best thing you can do in Nelson
Martha — Google review
Born and raised south of this lake. Activity's go from mountain biking, motorcycle hotspot, camping, hiking, Cliff Diving, Swimming, Wakeboard and Water skiing, fishing. Also a place for historical sites, beautiful parks like the glacial park in the north. This place will allow you to find yourself or release your self.
George M — Google review
Absolutely the best place for rustic nostalgia, delicious ice cream, friendly faces and crystal clear water to swim in. I’m in love with this area and most definitely plan to return.
Rena R — Google review
I stayed at Nelson. That part of the lake was beautiful, so clean that you can even drink from it. I went there in August, so it was very hot, too.
Livia E — Google review
Absolutely love this amazing lake. Lots of little beaches and boat access.

Whitewater Mountain Resort

Ski & Snowboard Areas
Whitewater Ski Resort, nestled 25 minutes from Nelson, British Columbia, is a haven for powder enthusiasts. With an average of 40 feet of snowfall each season and minimal crowds, it offers ample opportunities to carve fresh tracks on its expansive 2,367-acre terrain. The resort boasts 81 runs and four lifts along with 3.5 miles of groomed multi-use tracks for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking.
Went up to use the Nordic trails for snowshoeing and was greeted by a fantastic Aussie worker at guest services in the Hummingbird Lodge who explained the routes to us, helped us with the waiver and sent us happily on our way. The trails were beautifully groomed and we managed to find some nice areas off the mains as well. Amazing scenery and an easy drive up from Nelson. Will definitely visit again 👍
Matt O — Google review
Best ski hill around! 20 minutes from Nelson with friendly staff and amazing terrain! No data/WiFi which is nice, like the good ol days! There is a small/medium sized lodge and other food huts around, on a busy day it can get packed in the lodge and you might have to share a table. There are 4 lifts to access 3 different mountain sides/peaks, no gondolas!
Michael S — Google review
Unpretentious and simple, they have the snow and the terrain, and don't need any other resort gimmicks. Amazing terrain with some great glading, and easily accessible. Favourite ski hill to pilgrimage to every Winter!
Mike S — Google review
Go for the snow, drive a big vehicle or take a ride. Most amazing ski area. Loved the spring skiing. My son loved the powder skiing on his visit too. Nelson is great. Hot tub on top of the roof of the Savoy hotel helped my burning legs. Second time did a cabin in the woods just down the road. Great views and relaxed community.
Uncle M — Google review
Wow, amazing Mountain Hosts! So pleased today to have Coleen as our amazing ski host to show us this amazing mountain which we were trying for our very first time! We were using our reciprocal from Silver Star seasons passes. We had some difficulties showing proof of purchase as there was no wifi to pull it up ?? That was a bit frustrating. Amazing terrain! What a great day!
Darlene W — Google review
Had a great time at Whitewater. Good snow, happy staff, decent food, decent prices. Close to Nelson, and lots of parking available along the freshly-paved access road. It's time to expand the capacity of the chalet though.
Carson I — Google review
Great variety in terrain, love that there’s no mess of ski-in/out cat tracks at the village / base. No criss-cross traffic, easy access to all lifts from chalet. Cool resort I’ll be back
Lane L — Google review
First time to Whitewater was during a boys trip. Not only was Nelson, BC an amazing town filled with great foods, drinks, and snow shops to enjoy when not riding. The people we met were also the nicest people and great suggestions for riding and what places to go in town. On the mountain was no different, the staff was awesome and so helpful. The food was some of the best I have had anywhere, and this was on top a mountain! I recently saw that they are selling trail map blankets, with no way to order online I sent an email. I was greeted by Tessa, she explained that I could purchase at their downtown office or on the mountain when they opened. I did not include my location in my email. Once I explained that she got me in contact with Joesph Johns who was great and let me know he could ship them to me buy paying over the phone. I paid for them today and he even gave me a discount since I was buying 4 so I could give them to my friends for Xmas. All and all you cannot go wrong with Whitewater and the staff who make it all happen! Thank you to the staff and hope to see you this year, let it snow!!!

This is one of the most beautiful golf courses anywhere! Lush and green, with extraordinary views. We had their cooperation in planning a family golf tournament and they were very helpful with setting up tee times and making it happen. We will always come back here!
Marie G — Google review
What a fun golf course to play. Some tricky par fours. Kudos to the pro shop team and cart maintenance team for finding and returning my range finder. The golf course is in excellent condition for this time of year.
Del B — Google review
Beautiful setting near the lake. The front nine of the course is great, the back nine I found as gimmicky - in my honest opinion, yours may be different. The clubhouse restaurant was busy and the food was good.
Sev — Google review
This is a beautiful, scenic, and challenging golf course. I usually walk our 18 hole golf courses up in Fort St John. The back nine on this course would be too much for me to walk.
Catherine B — Google review
Amazing course, front 9 is staple BC golf, the back 9 is mountain golf with fantastic views
P T — Google review
Beautiful and challenging course. Was never rushed or had to wait. We had an amazing time!
Kerri M — Google review
I’m an absolute beginner golfer, so I can’t really comment on the course itself apart from that it’s in great condition and the club is dealing well with the COVID-19 restrictions. What I can rave about are the incredible views from the course.

Take the tour, it is well worth it if you are looking to gain some knowledge of the area. Would be helpful to read some quick notes on the founding of Trail and Rossland, but not necessary. 2 to 4 hours min depending on your curiosity. The tour includes a gold pan sluse for your enjoyment. Real gold from the tailings in the sluse. Lots of fun while you learn a skill. Could easily spend 2 more hours there if time permitted. Nice gift shop also.
Bob W — Google review
Not a museum guy normally but wow, this place was awesome and could have stayed for longer if it wasn't for some reservations we had to go to. Thanks for a great experience.
Sean W — Google review
Came with my family, thought it would be another museum/visitor's center, the one you look for a bit and leave. Nope, this place was dope! There is so much Rossland history preserved here and so much to learn. This is an interactive museum where your kids can learn, are encouraged to touch some items, and learn how to gold pan! Outdoors, there is more to see and explore. The staff were top notch, super helpful, and so polite! Eventually, we had to leave, but not before 3½ hours had passed. Worth every penny!
Rae D — Google review
This museum is inside and outside and talks about the mining / settler history of Rossland. We had a guided tour which was enjoyable and informative. The scavenger hunt was a hit with our 5yr old. There are a few picnic tables for lunch. Be aware in the parking area semi trucks stop for a brake check which is attached to the parking and some of them roared right through.
Mairi L — Google review
Went through the museum and took the guided tour, really interesting, lots of history here. I'd recommend stopping here
MMG — Google review
Interesting, you can go as a family and learn. Family tickets: $30 .

Great tour Guide! Interactive Gold panning and scavenger hunts in the museum. Guided tours 3 times a day. Call ahead and ask. Worth a visit:)

Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort

Mentioned on
1 list
Hotel
Nature & Parks
The Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort is a peaceful and understated destination that features hot mineral springs, a warm swimming pool, and an on-site eatery. It is well-known as one of the top resort-style hot spring spots in British Columbia, offering breathtaking views of Kootenay Lake. Soaking in the pool can alleviate stress with its soothing minerals like sodium, magnesium, potassium, and lithium. It's an excellent place to relax and unwind from daily stresses.
From the moment we walked in we were treated very well, staff are incredibly professional and very nice. The resort itself is a reflection of that, rooms were very clean, well kept and very spacious. I loved that they have robes available for guests to go down to the springs. Speaking of the springs, this is definitely something you must experience. The main pool is warm and relaxing but the cave pools are where you need to visit. I couldn't stay long and just walked through but the experience was a memorable one and I would certainly go back.
Jack P — Google review
We didnt stay at the hotel, just went to check out the water. The hot springs was awesome! The cave area is really nice, dark, and a sensory experience. The outer hot springs are decorated nicely with plants and seating options. The pool itself is large and has lots of seating options. The change rooms are large and clean. The entry comes with a free locker to use and I forgot my hair tie but they also had me covered there. The cold plunge was a nice touch too! The cave pools are truly HOT. I enjoyed my time there with my hubby and we both can’t wait to go back in the wintertime if they’re open. The staff seemed friendly and ready to help anyone who needed it.
Danielle D — Google review
Had been wanting to go for awhile. The large pool area was warm... like a cool bath. The water was hotter in the caves. The cold plunge pool was a little small had to wait. Lots of seating around the pool. We forgot water bottles. They provide free lockers ... even a swim suit dryer. Will definitely be back.
Dawn K — Google review
I didn't stay at the resort, but went for lunch and a soak in the hot springs. Definitely an interesting hot springs with the caves you can walk through. I appreciated that there was a cold pool here, not all hot springs have that. It would be nice if it was bigger, as it only fit a couple people, but realistically you don't sit in this one for long. Went on a Sunday afternoon in September, fairly busy, but not too crazy and families were respectful. The pool has different depths which was nice for different heights. Access to showers and a swim suit dryer afterwards was nice.
Mary N — Google review
The front desk staff were wonderful and very helpful, but unfortunately, that’s the only positive part of our stay. From the moment our family arrived at the pool, we felt targeted simply for having kids. Our 12- and 9-year-olds were dunking themselves underwater and coming up for air — something completely normal for children — and were immediately scolded for “splashing.” We were approached with complaints before we even stepped into the water, and throughout our time there it seemed like the kids couldn’t so much as breathe, talk, or laugh without someone complaining. The pool staff and manager’s constant monitoring and comments made what should have been a relaxing and fun experience stressful and unwelcoming. It’s very clear that families with children are not embraced here. Honestly, this resort should advertise itself as adult-only, because kids are clearly not welcome. The pool itself is completely overrun with Day Pass visitors during the day — it’s so crowded that you’re shoulder to shoulder with strangers. If you actually want to use the pool comfortably as a hotel guest, your only option is early morning or late at night. To make matters worse, parking is prioritized for Day Pass guests. As a paying hotel guest, it was frustrating to see that convenience goes to those just visiting for the day, not those staying overnight. The $15 continental breakfast is also not worth it: powdered eggs, teeth-crunching hashbrowns, and only semi-decent bacon. Definitely not what you’d expect for the price of the stay. While the front desk team deserves praise, the hostile environment toward families, overcrowded facilities, and poor value overall made this experience incredibly disappointing. We won’t be returning, and I would not recommend this resort to families with children.
Chantelle S — Google review
I recently stayed with my family at the ainsworth hot springs hotel. The front desk staff as well as the cleaning staff were very professional and helpful. Very kind people. Unfortunately that is where the positives ended. The resort itself is described as family friendly but is not at all. There are absolutely no amenities besides the hot springs. There is not even a common area to sit if you are travelling with a larger group. The hot springs itself is also nothing to write home about. The change room area is very dirty and not well maintained. The hot springs itself is the same. During the day they don’t seem to cap the amount of day visitors at all to the point where every inch of the hot springs has a body in it. We were not able to go in the hot springs at all during the day because of how busy it was. Also because of day visitors we would leave the hotel and do other activities during the day. When we returned there was absolutely no parking. They say they have designated areas for hotel guests but do not enforce it at all. Leaving hotel guests with no where to park. During the times(morning and evening) when it was hotel guests only in the hot springs my kids were constantly scolded for simply swimming around rather then sitting on the edge of the pool like the adults which is apparently what is expected during those hours. My kids were going under and holding their breathe and coming back up and we’re told they were not to do that. My youngest who isn’t a strong swimmer was holding on to his brothers back and we were told that was not allowed. My oldest was simply swimming around in one corner of the pool and was told he was “splashing too much”. When I brought it up with management that I thought it was family friendly and my kids would be allowed to swim I was told the morning and evening hours were expected to be “quieter” and they would get complaints simply for kids being in the pool. Which is apparently what lend to the scolding. I felt it was unfair we were getting scolded simply because other guests didn’t like kids in the pool when this was suppose to be a family friendly place. They informed me it was more laid back during the day. So basically the only perk to staying at the resort which is the private swim times was not really friendly to kids. The food at dinner time was good, the breakfast which is an extra fee is awful! I wouldn’t even want that for free and they charged $10 for kids and $15 for adults. Some of the restaurant staff was nice but the majority were very rude and acted as if you were ruining their day simply be being there. Jayleen was especially miserable and seemed to really hate her job and dealing with people at all. I was actually a little embarrassed watching her interact with customers so rudely. Overall I would never return to this resort. There is really no benefit to staying at the hotel and it is very overpriced. It is definitely not welcoming to families which is a huge downfall for me. But even my mother in law who is in her 70s did not enjoy anything about the resort.
Charlotte B — Google review
We went to the Ainsworth Hot Springs just as pool users. Great set up - but be prepared for it to be busy! We found the main pool 'warm enough', not really hot. The caves were neat - and much warmer. Cold plunge was lovely! Mostly well organized - and they were trying to keep it clean, but the day we were there, it was pretty packed - so felt like a futile effort. If you're looking for a commercial hot springs experience (much like Radium or Banff), this was it.
Heather B — Google review
We have been visiting Ainsworth for a little getaway for years now and I must say. The only thing lacking was the food. But we just stayed again and the food was unreal! The new chef has definitely stepped up the game. The Elk Wellington was amazing and the pork chop also. It was huge! Makes me want to come back even more now! See you soon!!

RED Mountain Resort, located in Rossland, British Columbia, is a popular destination for skiers and families seeking an unforgettable winter experience. With 4,200 acres of pristine skiing terrain and over 2,919 feet of vertical drop, it offers a wide variety of runs catering to all skill levels. The resort also features in-bounds cat-skiing at an affordable price and boasts some of the best tree runs in North America.
Some of the best snow I have experienced. Powder at its beat! The mountain has lots of variety. Tons of glades and terrain for experienced skiers. Loved it! The atmosphere is also very laid back and the staff and the resort has a very friendly attitude. You don't feel they are after you at every moment to ding you like other ski resorts, such as Whistler for instance!
Calin S — Google review
Honestly my favorite ski resort experience I've ever had. The snow is absolutely fantastic and there is so much skiable terrain. The best part about RED though is the minimal amount of people. Throughout my entire 1 week stay there were almost no lines at any of the lifts.
Hugo R — Google review
I visited in the early fall and the colours were spectacular. This mountain is developing in a well planned manner. There’s some beautiful homes and condominiums.
D G — Google review
Great place for the purists. Great variety of runs, intermediate to expert. Particularly wonderful are the glades and trees off Granite Mountain. Rossland isn't the most vibrant ski town. Condos available at the base. I've skied over 50 different areas. Red is in my top 5.
Doug B — Google review
Alright, listen up, snow bunnies and daredevils alike. I just returned from a "relaxing" ski trip to Red Mountain, and let's just say my definition of "relaxing" has been permanently altered. **Pros:** No crowds, just pure, unadulterated terror:** Forget lift lines, you'll be too busy questioning your sanity to notice. Leg day? More like leg decade. Prepare for the quad-burning workout of your life. Every run is a masterclass in endurance... and survival. Views that'll make you forget you're about to plummet: The scenery is stunning, assuming you can keep your eyes open while navigating a minefield of moguls and cliffs. Authentic "old school" experience:By "old school" I mean "they haven't touched this place since the 1970s, and honestly, I'm not sure they should." Unparalleled bragging rights: "Yeah, I skied Red Mountain." Watch as your friends' jaws collectively hit the floor. **Cons:** The "easy" runs are basically black diamonds in disguise: I suspect they use a different grading system, perhaps one based on how likely you are to encounter a bear. "Grooming" is a loose term: I think they just send a herd of particularly aggressive snowshoe hares out there. The lodge is charmingly rustic... if rustic means "held together by duct tape and the sheer will of the bartender": The food is hearty, and you'll need the calories to keep from shivering. "Wildlife encounters:** I saw a moose that looked like it was judging my skiing ability. It was right. My ski instructor was a local who just shouted "SEND IT!" and pointed down the mountain: Helpful. **Overall:** Red Mountain isn't for the faint of heart. It's a place where legends are forged and knees are destroyed. If you're looking for manicured slopes and hot cocoa by a roaring fire, go somewhere else. If you want to test your limits and earn some serious street cred, Red Mountain is your mountain. Just remember to bring your A-game, a healthy dose of fear, and maybe a satellite phone. You know, just in case.
David S — Google review
Not a family friendly resort to take your little kid skiing. I don't want to spend over 200$ to take my 5 year old skiing. You should be offering 30$ day passes for the Silverlode chair or topping creek chair only. Such as what Big white does with their plaza chair. Thanks
Tim S — Google review
Despite warm Spring weather, this was an amazing mountain. Lots of terrain, incredible views, and friendly vibe. We can't wait to go again with powder! This was our first visit and chose to ski with a mountain host to get to know the mountain better. BEST DECISION ever! Shout out to Peter, Dave, and especially Mike for showing us the mountain and taking us places we would have otherwise missed. Foodwise, we enjoyed a delicious classic smoky at Paradise Lodge and great tacos at Flying Phil's at the Topping Creek Lift. We found the guest services to be friendly and helpful as well.
Carrie V — Google review
RED has all the mom and pop vibes you could want in a ski area. They have been adding to the base area infrastructure the past couple years to create a more resort like experience. The mountain is Huge! You couldn’t ask for more terrain and uncrowded slopes. They do a nice job grooming the more beginner terrain. The tree skiing is awesome on a powder day. The views are spectacular. There are no high speed quads but that adds to the nostalgia of the place. It is one of BCs best kept secrets in my opinion. Be sure to hit up Rafters Bar for No Shower Happy Hour. All the staff are friendly and helpful. They have mountain hosts at 9:00 and 12:30 at the base area to show you around the slopes if you like. The parking area can fill up quick on a powder day but, they have a shuttle from town. This place is RAD.

Simply put: best day of skiing I have ever had. Felt a bit overwhelmed by the terrain at first (as more of an intermediate skier who is comfortable on single blacks but not double blacks and ultra steep stuff) but the guides were stellar and made me feel safe. All in all the experience was a 10 out of 10. Hope to be back again in the future.

Thank you for a lifetime adventure. Special thanks to Shannon for helping me out of the snow! Carrie and Shannon made sure everyone felt comfortable on the tour. I’m used to groomed runs and this was a very different experience. Glad I rented a powder board and would strongly recommend this. We did the intermediate tour. Thanks again to all the staff at big red cats!!

These guys are total pros. From the logistics management of re-organizing a re-schedule need, to the rental, to the ski day... top to bottom this whole experience was first rate. Lead guide Kyle and tail gunner Alex were exceptional communicators keeping us safe, managing the group variants and ensuring lots of fun... highly recommend - will be back soon. Thanks BRC!

We had 2 fantastic days of Cat Skiing with the Big Red Cats Team. The guides were all there the be sure we had an awesome experience, and we did just that! They mixed up our runs between challenging steep tree runs and open lower angle snow fields. The powder was perfect. Lunch was pretty good too! Everyone was hooting all day and, speaking for myself anyway, exhausted, and fully satisfied at the end of each day.

We just had an amazing first experience cat skiing with Big Red Cats. We did intermediate and it was the perfect difficulty for us. Charlotte and Andy were amazing guides and kept us safe all day. We had fresh lines on every run and had an absolute blast! Would 100% recommend!!

We spent two days cat skiing with Big Red Cats this week. The first day was very disappointing, however the second was fabulous. Day 1: Our team of 4 was booked in a shared "Advanced Group" cat of 11 people. We arguably got the "6 run guarantee" in. We spent more time waiting for beginners who couldn't ski/board than the combined ski time + cat ride time. For a company that boasts access to 700 runs, we ended up skiing our own tracks twice. One of those repeats was a pancake flat 500m waste of time. Our lead guide chose to express his frustrations with the group instead of doing anything about it (like maybe benching the folks that clearly couldn't ski/board). Since we had only done 2 runs by noon we asked to be moved to a more advanced cat/group or to ski something with a pitch as we were bored. We were told it wasn't an option and to talk to the office. So afterwards we did speak with the office, our group felt ripped off having paid $800 each for that day. We wanted to ensure we weren't going to have the same experience on our second day. The office offered no solutions or assurances. They explained that they rely on accurate self-assessment of skill. The one silver lining to an otherwise disheartening day was our tail guide Shannon. Shannon brought such a cheerful, fun vibe to the day. We gave up on the epic ski day we drove 14.5hrs for and spent the afternoon chatting with Shannon and picking up beginners stuck in the powder. Day 2: Once again, our team of 4 was booked in a shared "Advanced Group" cat, this time with a total of 8 people. Our lead guide Keena (sp?) was so knowledgeable and fun. Her safety briefing in the morning was a great brush up on AST1. Up top she gave us great advice on what we were about to ski, tips for how to ski better in the less than ideal conditions, and what to expect. We skied a variety of terrain, some open cut blocks, some nice glades, some steep pitches, and some enjoyable cruisers. I lost count of how many runs we did because I was too busy yelling wahoo and yippie. We did have someone who self assessed beyond their abilities in our group again, however our tail guide Francisco and Keena managed this very well and it was a non-issue. Kodu's to Keena for her fabulous group management skills. Day 2 was amazing and definitely worth the price of admission.

Great knowledgeable guides had amazing blue bird, surprisingly with nice pow without new snow really in weeks. Unfortunately a hose blew on cat cost us at least an hr. But shit happens. Would go again 💯

BRC offered an amazing cat skiing experience for us. The staff are awesome and the terrain is amazing for everyone from beginners to more advanced skiers/boarders. We’ve come back 4 years and counting now, when the snow is good their terrain is as good as anywhere!

Provincial park
Kokanee Creek Provincial Park, located in Nelson, Canada, is a natural park known for its mountainous terrain and sandy beach. The park offers easy walks and is particularly famous for salmon spawning during late summer. Visitors can access the Keyhole trailhead via a logging road near the Kokanee Creek campground to reach the Kokanee glacier. Osprey campsite within the park is supervised and well-maintained with free hot showers available at the main campsite.
one of the best campsites ive ever stayed at, densely wooded for privacy with paved, well maintained roads. restrooms are plentiful with grey water disposal drains directly outside. the beach is covered in soft sand and you can wade out quite far before it gets too deep. perfect for kids to play.

Honestly this is probably the best park in the BC park system in some categories. Great staff, cleanest male washrooms I have ever seen in a park outside Japan. You can go to a sandy beach, go for a walk in the forest, or walk along the beach on a nice grassy trail. Beautiful rivers feed that lake. They have a world class nature centre that sells fresh incredible coffee in the morning and also fresh pastries! It also has good showers, you can rent canoes and water equipment. Separate space for dogs and kids (if you are lucky with your bookings). It is just a really beautiful and well run park. Do not miss this gem
Terry W — Google review
We were just there for picnic. It had everything we needed, including a place to wash dishes. Beach was big and clean. Change rooms and showers. We were there at the end of the season, and mid week. It was quite and beautiful.

The nicest campground we've ever been to. Beautiful area. The sandpit campground have the best sites. They are well shaded and spaced well. The staff are kind and there to answer questions but not all up in your business. Nice bathrooms and showers that are well kept and cleaned daily. The beautiful beach is big enough to accommodate a full campground as well as day users without feeling over crowded. We were too early ( late July) to see kokanee spawning but we did have a cute young black bear scoot through our site without disturbing anything. We'll definitely be back

Unreal, the B.C. parks baristas serve a gr8 latte!!! plus stuffed bears and mountain lions!!! ☕️🐻🧸🚤🏖🏞🌳🚵‍♂️ Best park in B.C. Pop your boat in at the launch! Dog beach! Mountains!!! Bring a bike or board!

Such a wonderful campground with great amenities. They have hot showers and flush toilets in clean buildings throughout the campgrounds. They have a wonderful education centre that has a ton of information on the local flora and fauna, theirs bear skins and skulls and a full library and knowledge to be pursued at your leisure. The staff at the campground is awesome, so nice, knowledgeable and accommodating. The beaches are only a short walk from the campsites and surprisedly big with beautiful sand, as well as very well maintained. I don’t think I saw a single piece of trash there. The beach is very shallow as there is a sand bar that runs the entire length of the beach. Great for paddle boarding in the morning or evening, as the afternoon can get really windy. I highly recommend staying here if you have a family.
Explorer W — Google review
Staff are super friendly! Definitely a family spot for camping. Wear ear plugs to bed or prepare to wake up at 7:30am to a badminton tournament on your street LOL The kids are up early. We could only rent canoes (June 1st visit) so that sucked. We really wanted to use paddle boards but they weren’t renting them due to water level and temperature. The firewood they sell is the best price you’ll find anywhere and the city of Nelson is close which was a big help with supplies/food etc. ALL the trails are walking only, no cycling. They are a pet friendly location but the pet beach is separate and very small. The nature centre has coffee which is pretty good but the showers are weird. The ones in the campground area are push button and need pushing every 30 seconds. If you go to the beach, those showers are better! They’re a regular shower. Would go back but better prepared.

Beautiful provincial park. Amazing camping, sand beaches, tons great nature/hiking trails. Programs run by the visitor centre are informative for all ages. During August and September the Kokanee (landlocked sockeye salmon) are spawning and can be easily viewed via an easy, accessible for all boardwalk trail

The museum also offers a map highlighting 33 heritage buildings in the area, most of which are situated on Baker Street. Visitors can explore various architectural styles from Edwardian Classical to Mission Revival.
Wonderful and detailed bunker tour. Art and museum exhibits were cool, also.

I found it interesting reading about the counterculture history of Nelson, providing some insights into its laid back character and culture. The museum also had numerous exhibits dedicated to historically underrepresented people, such as First Nations and Chinese. The museum had signs up suggesting they want to continue rebalancing these disparities, however I feel they've already done a great job!
Adrian M — Google review
A nice balance of history and modern life and art. I love the fairly balanced ethnic treatment and that they include all the women they could find!! Excellent. A few updates to do on Bill C8 and the pot legality but I hope they don't change too much, it's great how it is.
Christa B — Google review
We really liked the bunker experience tour. It sounds boring but it really isn’t. Go and check it out to see a lot of cool 60’s and 70’s stuff. Also the museum is nice and gift shop too.

Museum staff were lovely and provided some great recommendations for the next stops on my trip! The gallery room had a beautiful exhibit, and the history section upstairs had some nice displays as well. Some of the displays had pretty long walls of text, so I'd love to see some more short, digestible segments in the future as well. Loved sitting and watching the Missing Voices video project, a great touch, especially for visitors to get to know the people of the area and the values they hold.

Small but lovely museum & gallery, the place is well illuminated and has a lot of historic facts, also you can appreciate the effort and love the community of artist and also the staff working there put, if you arrive after 4 pm but the price is worth it just 8 cad each, the entrance is free, they have restrooms and a small pretty shop!

The museum representative Astrid made our visit to Nelson Museum worth the trip from Spokane. She reminded us of the movie "Roxanne" with Steve Martin. It was filmed there in 1987. She provided so much additional information which assisted my friend and I. Thank you. The only confusing part was trying to locate the museum in the first place. We received so many conflicting directions of how to get there. I recommend you just ask for the OLD POST OFFICE. See the attached photo. They have so many wonderful items in their gift shop. Thanks again.

Castlegar Golf Club is a championship 18-hole semi-private golf course located in the picturesque Kootenay region above the Columbia River. The stunning surroundings of mountains and forests provide breathtaking views from every angle. The course layout winds through pine forests, posing challenges for wayward shots, while the undulating greens add to the difficulty level. Additionally, Castlegar Golf Club also offers an RV park with pleasant camping sites that may be somewhat close together.
Bit of a hidden gem. The golf course is in good shape and well looked after. Pricing is reasonable and the restaurant is well above average. The campground is very well maintained, amenities are clean and above average quality Susan is as delightful a camp host as you will ever meet. Lives our stay and hope to be back.

We stayed in the RV park at Castlegar golf and RV for a couple of nights to visit our grandchildren - unfortunately we didn’t have time to golf. This is a nice campground. Staff were really helpful and friendly, the sites are nice and big and clean and it’s very quiet. We didn’t use the washrooms or laundry so I can’t speak to that. We weren’t aware there was no sewer hookup but perhaps I missed seeing that - but just a heads up for anyone else. The Co-op fuel station in Castlegar has a nice sani dump on the side of the building. There is a tap beside the dump for black water and another tap around the front near the door for fresh water.

Price per night is fantastic, tent sites are huge, the campground host is very hospitable and went out of her way to help us out. Food at the clubhouse is great and the golf course looks like it would be a lot of fun. The nearby trail network was also great. I took the kids for a short walk there and they enjoyed the connection with nature. We will definitely be back and I recommend you go there too.

This is so impressive. I knew the Doukhobor by reputation but never knew what they were about. To summsrize: they will not fight. War is stupid and against God's will. And they took the ridiculous consequences of this admirable stand. They were expelled, haunted, imprisoned. Go and see this place and let them inspire you
Chris V — Google review
Very informative museum and cultural centre. Great informative display on the Doukhobor settlements. Worth the visit!

Enjoyed the informative tour and seeing all the historical artefacts. What an incredible history and journey of the Doukhobors in BC and Canada. I had a chance to read about the Doukhobor migration at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 in Halifax, and the tour of DDC helped me delve deeper into the history.

OK, I hate to be judgemental, but that was definitely a cult! Seriously? The Christian Community of Universal Brotherhood??? They probably called it something different back then, but that was a soul sucking cult. Interesting to read and learn about, but bone chilling. The worship of Peter Verigen was unsettling.

It was a pleasure to visit this museum. The highlight was talking to the employee in the gift shop. Luckily it was not busy and he had the time to answer our questions and provide a lot more background information which was interesting. He had a degree in history and the knowledge he shared made the visit.

Just go! Amazing waterfalls and the beach below is fantastic as well. Highly recommend, one of the most beautiful spots on the Kootenay Lake.

Quick walk down from a small parking area to see what has to be one of the nicer sets of falls I have seen in Canada. Super easy access, next to no barriers, and not a speck of garbage to be seen. Fire pits and picnic tables at the lakeside along with an outhouse. Stunning views of Kootenay Lake looking across to the East shore and beyond into the mountains. It would be even easier to access were one to boat here… Definitely worth the 10-15 minutes it takes, though I’d plan on being there longer because it’s such a peaceful spot.
Jeremy F — Google review
Fantastic falls with spectacular views! Nice little walk down to the falls. We did it in flip flops and slides (not recommended but doable) because we didn't know it was a quick little hike down and back up. So worth the time! Can picnic on the beach as well. Has a little outhouse and picnic tables. Lots of space to spread out on the beach and spend some time just enjoying the beauty.

Beautiful place. Walkable in flip flops but not recommended. Several choices for trail down. Chose straight or zigzag. Great spot for picnic and swimming at beach. Thanks again Canada you never let us down with your beautiful surroundings!

Despite some erosion from people not sticking to the trail, this place was stunning and peaceful. We just went down for some exercise, but took a look at the day use and camping areas as well as the lovely waterfall. I could easily spend a whole day down there, particularly if I had a packable kayak for some paddling.

Nice spot for a hike, camping not so much since the site is down a very steep hill. Beautiful waterfalls with a pit toilet. Great picnic and swim area

Even in the winter the hike down to Fletcher Falls is stunning. You have to be careful of the ice but the beach, picnic area, and falls are beautiful. There are some great spots to sit and paint the waterfalls and there are lovely bird watching opportunities. I recommend to anyone who is able to hike down to the falls.

I am so drawn to this place, I come for a walk around this Island a lot. As you can tell I am very connected to this place and have taken a lot of beautiful pictures of this place. It is a must to come and visit when your in the area and get a really look at what Castlegar has to offer.. So beautiful in the summer time when all of the flowers are bloomed. And don’t forget to check out their historic 1918 year old school.!
Jerilee • — Google review
Beautiful location, great short walk around the island with many lookout spots and picnic areas. The old house itself is gorgeous historical building with pretty surrounding area. Although the cable bridge is closed in the off-season, there is very easy access through a large dyke walkway. Highly recommended to burn off some energy. Plenty of dog off leash areas as well. Two thumbs up.
Craig — Google review
I might go again for the view on the Northeast side of the island. Otherwise, not as fun as I thought it might be. The museum was closed, it was about 11 am on a Sunday. The bridge was closed for repairs, but it was easy to take an alternate route next to it to get into the island. Not hard to get to from town. But a little underwhelming for my family, except for a few nice views.

Zuckerberg Island is a beautiful, peaceful, serene gem in the heart of downtown Castlegar. Take your time and explore the many paths, and be sure to check out the chapel, cemetery and "stump lady". The island is accessible either by suspension bridge, or by a foot path - which is typically open as long as the water level is low (which it usually is these days). This park holds special memories for me as it is where my husband & I were wed. It's as beautiful now as it was then, if not moreso.

The sculptures are amazing but a little difficult to follow the path per say. You're better off just wandering around Castlegar to find them.

If you're in the area, make it a part of your day to enjoy the walk and check out all these large and very creatively crafted sculptures. They are excellent and many times quite whimsical. Hats off to all the artists! The family will love these and want to be in a picture with several. No cost and there's a map and info available.

This was a hit on our day in castlegar. The art is gorgeous and it was a good chance for our 5yr old to practice being the leader and reading a map. She loves that we got to vote on our favourite. We rented kayaks from Kaslo Kayaking today and it was a great experience. The kayaks were all ready to go when we arrived, and the staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back! The kayak route they suggested was just beautiful with at least a few little beaches to swim and have lunch. Awesome day trip! Thanks again!

We had a fantastic experience with Kaslo Kayaking in the summer of 2023. Our family of 5 rented a canoe for a 3 day backcountry trip. Daphne was helpful in recommending the size and model we needed. We had calm waters for most of the trip but even when it got rougher we were very confident with the quality of the canoe, and it performed well in the chop. Drop off and pickup was right on time at the boat launch and service was excellent. We are renting from Kaslo Kayaking again this summer.

Experience was great with them. Rented to single kayaks. Were in great condition and all necessary safety gear was provided. Will use again when in town time. Top notch customer service as well.

We thoroughly enjoyed our kayaking lessons from Dean at Kaslo Kayaking. He tailored his lesson to our individual situation (over 60yrs, interested in possibly purchasing a kayak, low key shoreline outings in the future). He was generous with information and encouraging out on the water during the paddling session. He clearly has abundant knowledge and skill and teaches at a much advanced level as well. Dean was friendly and very pleasant to spend time with. We highly recommend Kaslo Kayaking!
Janice — Google review
Had a great experience renting a kayak here. Dean is extremely knowledgeable and experienced and took a lot of time going over technique and safety procedures. The equipment is top notch and the rental includes everything you would need in case something goes wrong. Prices are very reasonable as well. Highly recommend them for anyone looking to get out on Kootenay Lake (which you absolutely must do if you are visiting Kaslo!).

Would 100% recommend! Wonderful experience from booking to payment. We called Kaslo Kayaking before opening in hopes to book a guided tour same-day. I got a call back immediately and they were able to squeeze us in for our ideal choice - a sunset paddle! (They are usually very busy so I *do* recommend booking ahead.) We were blown away by the care and diligence Dean took to familiarize us with the equipment and the area - he even added the unexpected service of personal photographer! We felt safe, had loads of fun and will cherish the memories and chats for many years to come. We also had the opportunity to check out the shop. Great selection and friendly service. The entire crew was awesome. Thank you!

Love this unique little museum. Very interactive and well put together. The treasure hunt for the kids is a great way to engage them through the self guided tour. Great entrance price of $14 and you can spend all day if you want. It is a great experience for anyone loving history, the beginning video allows a great comparison to your present day showcasing all the grand improvements they have added to make this self guided tour amazing. The added sound effects to the props are spot on to immerse you in the time frame. Climb the stairs to the top and pull the steam whistle it's super fantastic to hear that sound and well worth that extra donation to keep that maintained. Better for adults to enjoy children may need to be wrangled.

The SS Moyie Sternwheeler is a fascinating piece of history beautifully preserved in Kaslo! Stepping aboard feels like a journey back in time, with the meticulous restoration and informative displays bringing the past to life. The staff are passionate and knowledgeable, eager to share the rich history of this remarkable vessel. Exploring the various parts of the sternwheeler, from the engine room to the elegant dining area, gives a comprehensive look at life on the water in the early 20th century. The panoramic views of Kootenay Lake from the deck are simply breathtaking. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for a unique and educational outing, the SS Moyie is a must-visit. The entry fee is not the cheapest, but we gladly paid it for the attention to detail in the museum (they even keep the ships trumpet-thing maintenanced). Drop by if you are in the area!

This is a wonderful example of well preserved history by caring people. The boat has been lovingly restored by dedicated individuals. The staff took great pride in giving information and we're genuinely happy to be there. Give it a visit!

It's beautiful and quiet, perfect for an unplugged reset. The sites are large and well maintained. There is a dog park and many water/bathroom/garbage/recycling locations. I'll go back for sure.

Nice park with plenty of places to walk. Showers!! They were clean and warm. It’s a push button system, so push for water. Dogs aren’t allowed everywhere, so look where they are allowed. Nice campsite, but right next to others. I chose one on the end, which was nice. Butterfly/bee garden. Quiet at night.

This place is very beautiful to come to during the first few month of summer. When the waters are high and the beaches are full of beach bums. The water is clear. The boats are flowing and there's lots of picnic tables to enjoy your lunch. They have FREE showers at the main bathrooms 🚻. Which are VERY clean. Indoor bathrooms and outhouses. Grass play areas are always well kept. Lots of free parking. Camping is amazing out here as well. With electric hookups for an extra fee of luxury. The place is beautiful all year round.

2022-08-21: We had a birthday party at their day use site. Clean with lots of tables, amenities, washrooms, and a huge beautiful beach. Dog park is near the day use area. Worth the trip out.

Absolutely amazing setting for those willing to get off the grid for a while. Perfect staff, clean sites, amazing views over Arrow lake reservoir. And yes, no WiFi, no cell coverage! Definitely one of signature parks of beautiful British Columbia. You won't get bored visiting local points of interest, guaranteed!

The campground was fantastic! We booked a site by the side of the lake and enjoyed the view at sunset! Each site is of a decent size, so people can have some privacy. The shower and washroom was very clean and well maintained. This campground is perfect for water activities! A dog beach is also available!
Lexie T — Google review
We had a great stay in one of the electric sites. This is such a beautiful park! We loved the beach although it was a bit windy to enjoy paddle boarding. The washrooms were clean and the shower was glorious. The only thing we didn’t like was lack of privacy between the sites, There is just a rustic fence, it would be nice if there was some landscaping. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and loved exploring Castlegar. The nearby Lions Head pub was great for lunch and watching rock climbers! NoFrills was perfect for groceries.

Sandon Museum

Museum

Take a short diversion off the highway up the smoothest dirt road you'll ever encounter and you'll find this silver mining ghost town. Interesting to hear about the hydroelectric/hydropneumatic? power station. There's a little stall selling coffee, pastries and ice cream too.
Tim B — Google review
Sandon Museum was one of the highlights of my mid-September motorcycle trip from Vancouver through the Kootenays, onward to Lake Louise and Banff. A must-visit for CCF Brill Trolley fans, old workhorse buses that roamed Vancouver streets until fully retired in March 1984, replaced by Flyer E901A/E902’s. It's so sad most of the 240 Brill Trolleys were sold for scrap value at $811 per bus. The gravel road to Sandon is about 5 kilometers off Highway 31A, but smooth enough for a heavy sport touring bike. A beautiful destination, so rich in B.C. history, a wonderful place to spend the afternoon.
Lester S — Google review
Great little tourist attraction old mining town. Very cool little museum and staff were very nice to give an interesting short speech about the history of Sandon. Quite interesting to see how the town has changed over the years. The power generator station was interesting and same with the old steam locomotive and old transit buses. 6km of flat graded dirt road to get up to Sandon, not a paved road FYI.
Branden G — Google review
What a unique experience. We weren't sure what to expect and thought there was going to be just retired buses there, but there was a huge museum, store, and powerhouse. You can also camp there, but recommended to call ahead to reserve a spot. There are a few outhouses located in town and by the camping area. There was also a little food truck there. All the people working there were very friendly. I brought my 2 teenage boys and we all had a great time learning about the town and seeing the pictures and items there. Thanks for the great memories!
Simpler L — Google review
Interesting site to see, and enjoyed seeing some of the local stories when Sandon was booming. Museum staff member was great in providing some additional context. Was left a bit off-put coming here after visiting the power house and store, it is clear there are some awkward tensions running through Sandon, with signs posted arguing with one-another regarding the historical society and responsibilities held by different parties here. Still worth a visit, but thought is was worth to note this.
Mary N — Google review
Visited Sandon 4 times now, every time there's another piece of history to see. From the locomotive and transit buses to the unique and historic generating station there's so much to learn about BC's mining history. Well worth the short side trip from the highway.
Al W — Google review
I'm so glad we have it here finally- it's been on my bucket list! We planned our entire trip to B.C from Manitoba around visiting Sandon! Excellent museum and tour guides available to show you around and answer questions.
S — Google review
Neat spot to stop and explore. We didn't actually go into the museum, but explored the ghost town. If you have the time take a walk along some of the old roads which are no longer used and you will encounter a few buildings. The power plant was neat to do a quick walk through. The tour they tell you they offer is just opening the doors for you to walk through and take a look yourself. Kids thought it was neat to see the old buses and the old train.

Ski & Snowboard Areas
My boyfriend and I just completed our second trip to Selkirk and couldn't have been more thrilled! We traveled from New York, he ski's and I snowboard. For anyone who is not familiar with snowcat skiing/boarding, the experience starts with a trip up the mountain in a brand new, very comfortable and warm snow cat, where the guides are happy to answer any questions. Once you get to the top, the views are unmatched, with no signs of civilization in sight, snow trees and mountains everywhere you look. From there, the lead guide will find you the best untracked powder as you make your way down the mountain, through the trees and back to the snowcat. An average run is about 45 minutes, then you will get back into the snowcat to travel back up the mountain, while eating a nice lunch, drinking some warm tea, and listening to some music if you like. After a long and very fun day on the mountain, you will come back to the lodge where you will find apres ski in full swing, you can have a drink at the bar and enjoy a dip in the hot tub until dinner. The food is always on point, extremely tasty and healthy, so you always feel great for the next day on the mountain. Selkirk truly provides a once in a lifetime experience. From the owner, to the guides and snowcat drivers, to the masseuse, photographer and kitchen staff, and of course the the most epic snow you will ever find, this place is the best of the best. We can't wait for next year and many more to come!

I think we can all agree that Selkirk Cat Skiing is in one of the most beautiful locations in the world. The snow must be experienced, you might find it’s equal but there is nothing better. What you may not know is the staff. Paul and Megan have put together a fantastic group of people. Guides, drivers, chefs, lodge staff. Everyone is motivated to make this the best experience you have ever had. My Dad has the distinction of being the oldest first time cat skier ever to hit the slopes at 84. This would not have been possible if it were not for the coordinated efforts of Paul, Liam,Adam, Rebecca, Clayton and Steve. I also have to put a special shout out to Lyndsay, who’s massages kept him going. I was a little nervous about this adventure and I cannot thank all of you enough for everything you did. We will remember this day. Much love to all the staff at Selkirk Jory Bocknek

I have skied at Selkirk Wilderness 3 times before and had a great time. However, I am extremely disappointed in the current management and the way they handled the covid-19 situation. They refused to follow their own written cancelation policies. I totally understand the need to cancel tours in 2019 and 2020 due to covid-19 but not to give their clients a 100% credit for the tours that SWS canceled was totally wrong! Their own policy reads that if the client cancels the tour there is no refund. But if Selkirk Wilderness Skiing cancels the tour, that the client is entitled to a 100% refund or credit. They need to adhere to their own policy.

I had an awesome time here. One of the Best skiing experiences of my Life. Every skier needs to try Cat skiing at Least Once. However Selkirk Snowcat/Wilderness skiing is a family run place, and Family run places always offer the best customer service and they treat you like part of the family here. Best skiing of my Life... Thank You SWS!!!

This was a massive scam...we had a trip booked with them and due to Covid they cancelled. Totally understandable. However, unlike others, instead of refunding us our money...they gave us two options: 1) Get a 75% credit towards next year (WHAT!? they wouldn't even give us a full credit towards a trip in 2021) 2) Get 50% our money money back THEN, after our whole group agreed to take 75% and do a booking in 2021 at ADDITIONAL cost, they sent a followup saying that the credit would only be available to us for the 2022 season. So our options are: 1) Pay more to get a reservation in 2022 or 2) Only get 50% of the $5500 we paid back Terrible way to conduct business and was a real bummer. Untrustworthy and just not OK. I would not do business with this company unless you are willing to pay for rock solid trip insurance.

We booked a trip with Lardeau River Adventures as part of our honeymoon trip up to BC. Despite us being the only ones to schedule for that day, Oly and Tamara still took us on and made the day unforgettable. They are great people who really make you feel welcome. The rafting trip was fun, the scenery gorgeous, and the lunch was amazing. Oly is so knowledgeable and we really enjoyed learning about the history of the area and hearing about all the wildlife. And of course can't forget about their friendly pup Scout who greeted us upon arrival. Overall, a great day. We will surely be back!

More than you could ever expect from a river rafting trip! I'd give more than 5 stars if I could. My husband and I booked a tour with Lardeau River Adventures, and got there to find out that we were the only ones on our tour! We had two guides come with us as a result (Olly and Rob), and we had a phenomenal time. Olly knows the entire history of the area, from the land to the animals, the trees, forestry, fires, the local people... If you have a question, he has the answer. The rafting was not too difficult, definitely takes some effort, but nothing too overwhelming. Lunch was a beautiful homemade meal - sandwiches with homemade pesto, garden veg & fruit, tea, fresh juice, homemade cookies and banana bread... so much more than expected, and all absolutely delicious. We opted to get the photography package as well, which is absolutely worth it! If you are in the area, make the time to do this trip!

Absolutely the best rafting trip I've ever been on. We were offered tea and homemade strawberry rhubarb muffins when we arrived, which blew my socks off. After a quick drive safety talk we were in the water. It was BEAUTIFUL, and the river had its fair share of rapids. Oli and his wife were VERY knowledgeable on the wildlife and general history. I highly recommend these guys. Plus, we got to take home cookies and banana bread at the end!

After a long day of hanging out with my family and friends i just love to go in the garden and relax, its so peaceful it lifts a huge weight off my shoulders. A very beautiful garden that is actively maintained. In fact, we stumbled upon a volunteer training some shrubs. There are lots of little trails and alcoves to explore. I also enjoyed the many water features. It's built to commemorate a WW2 Japanese internment camp. By the way, it's located near the water and a regular park. I strongly suggest you check it out, so some cash in the donation box, and give the bell a ring.

What a gem of a Japanese garden. This is in a location where the Canadian Government interned Japanese Canadians who are Canadian citizens during World War ll. The tranquility and the aesthetics of the design made it an ideal place for meditation and reflection. Frankly this is one of the best Japanese gardens I have seen in North America.

Moving and Powerful. Our guide, Ruby, was very knowledgeable about this dark period in BC history. She says the main reason why the survivors wanted this museum was to teach the children how to live and move forward if their parents weren't there, just like they did.

This was a really interesting place to visit. There was a women who guided a group of visitors through one of the buildings and told the story of the sites history. It was very powerful and educational, I recommend anyone visiting New Denver to visit as it tells an important story of Canadas history. A quiet and contemplative place. There are books and other items for sale at the entrance

This is such a beautiful site, telling the important story of the Canadians of Japanese heritage internment during World War 2. The site is brilliantly maintained by volunteers and is housed in the original buildings used 80 years ago. There are classes and history lessons and all sorts of wonderful surprises here. Make a point of stopping in and also visit other communities in the area and their memorial sites to the internment.
Ernie P — Google review
To understand our history we must take evidence of what we have done. The Nikkei Internment Memorial has been wonderfully preserved to show the different stages of living conditions of the Japanese Canadians from 1941 to the 1980's. The buildings and gardens have been kept in great condition. The main hall holds pictures and excerpts.
Alan V — Google review
Absolutely worthwhile. The greeter was Very knowledgeable. I just wish there was an actual guided tour or someone like the initial greeter who could tell the stories. My teenager enjoyed it and it started some good conversations in our family. The memorial gardens are only a short walk away and right on the lake. I’m glad this place survived and is being so well tended to by the town and residents.

This was more than a pleasant surprise to find this place of beautifully preserved but painful history. The lady of the place was so caring in respectfully presenting this history. SO glad we took the time to veer off the highway.

What an amazing Museum!! 🥰💖 The photos, layout and artifacts are laid out for best experience. My husband's family went through the internment and we both learned things we didn't know in this exhibit. Some of the best natural flavor ciders on the West Koot. Raspberry, apple ginger, and so many more. Pizza nights on Friday to Sunday. Live music is awesome. Bring the family, sing with the entertainers of the evening. Service is great. You can tell that everyone feels at home here. Staying at plenty of campground across Canada this one was the most memorable, and beautiful for me. Surrounded by mountains. And on clear lake. Everything was reasonable. The staff were so welcoming and informative. The pit-toilet actually had deodorizer or a smelly thing in there, I never knew out houses could smell good! You could leave stuff at the beach without any worries!

Magical! Felt almost tropical...Well maintained, very conscientious fellow campers lots of families with kids (& kids making new best friends), amazing views of the lake (try to reserve the lakeside spots you get to wake up to green and blue bands of lake color and light sand!) We were in a double spot with friends, which was perfect for us. Nice and clean, renovated (with nice-smelling cedar!) front campground reception office, clean and new outhouses, drinking water and dishwater dump stations conveniently located near most campsites, paved paths excellent for kids on bikes and rollerblades. The beach is huge!!! very soft sand beach that takes your breath away. It's almost a tropical feel. Silty, squishy sand getting in and out of the ly a soul on it and views to take yourlake. Top inch or 2 is warm water but the rest is quite cool; still, it's refreshing! See you there next time!!!! Edit: forgot to add one small negative. You do hear the occasional car passing by on hwy6 (which wasn't busy when we were there mid-August), as the campground is not far from the road. (So aim for booking a spot far from the road). If you don't like hearing cars when camping, Blanket Creek Prov campground farther north nearer to Revelstoke is far from the road and also truly amazing (although aim for a May visit there, when the river is beautiful and wide (& before the mosquitos are too bad. )
Marjo T — Google review
Had a great time here amidst sunshine and rain. Campsite was flat. Picnic table looked new. Hot showers, but beware of sensor light turning off every 4 minutes. Located close to Nakusp where grocery store is open 8am to 8pm.
Tim D — Google review
A very nice campground! Right on the edge of the lake, lots of area to go for little hikes. The sites are kind of close to each other, so if you're looking for a lot of privacy you may not find what you're looking for. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they understand what people need when they're camping. Firewood ($10 per bundle) Pick a site that's not reserved and set up, they will come around and you can pay then. $30/ night + $12/ night for extra vehicle. The lake water was very low at the beginning of September, so if you're planning on bringing paddleboards etc be prepared for a bit of a walk down to the water.

Just beautiful, views are breathtaking, quiet and peaceful place, lots of available RV spots and services. clean facilities. easy access and exits. fire pits are clean and well taken care of. only 10 minutes drive from downtown.

What a great place. Very quiet. Powered sites are a bit small and tight together. We got site 18 which is powered off by itself very close to the water and beach. Beach is nice and sandy. Water is awesome clear and cool. Free showers and $5 sani dump. I highly recommend
Colton G — Google review
Well kept and maintained provincial park. Well shaded camping spots (without power), spots with power don't have as much shade. Hot showers, upgraded pit toilets, long sandy beach with lots of spots to access, recommend bringing a beach umbrella. You can paddle across the lake to another beach too. The playground is new. If you have bikes bring them as spots can be far from showers, also handy to get to playground. Well situated for trips to the hot springs and Nakusp. Volunteer host Wayne was super friendly and helpful as were the park staff. Firewood and ice available to purchase.
Alison B — Google review
A beautiful gem! Campsites are all well kept. Thete are free showers by the entrance with a dishwashing station, too. Its Pit toilets, but the staff clean on a regular basis. The beach is fabulous, you can walk forever. It's great for paddle boarding, fishing, or just sitting on the beach. Campsites are medium sized, good space between your neighbours. Portable drinking water, and a sani station. Generators are allowed 9-11am & 6-8pm. There is firewood and ice available from the park operators, who are friendly and helpful. Nakusp is only a 10 miniute drive to town where there is a beautiful little town with a fantastic waterfront walk and park. Lots of restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, liquor stores, and a save on-foods. Highly recommend this beautiful Zen campsite. It will be a regular visit for us. We went in September, the best time to go...quiet and relaxing 😌

Nestled in the breathtaking Kuskanax Valley, Nakusp Hot Springs is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable experience. This rustic lodge features two inviting outdoor hot spring pools where visitors can unwind while soaking in stunning mountain views. Located about 20 minutes from town, the journey to these natural springs takes you along an unpaved road leading to Kuskanax Creek.
Always an enjoyable and relaxing spot. Nestled in the middle of a forest next to the creek for a nice soak in one of two natural hotsprings pools. In the summer the hot pool is cooled down to a nice 85° instead of 104 in the cooler seasons. Very scenic in all seasons. There are nice hiking trails to a remote lake or to the old hot springs, the source of the hot water in the thermal pools. A rough trail exists on the other side of the creek for hiking back to town. I used to hike that trail as a teen. There is a bit of camping and a few chalet cabins available. Though I have never stayed over. And there is even decent cell phone reception. Snacks and local goods are also available. The caribou nursery is right next to it as well. Always friendly and helpful staff too!

Dear Nakusp Hot Springs Team, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As proud locals and owners of Bear Ridge Cabins just down the road, we can’t sing the praises of Nakusp Hot Springs enough! This place is an absolute gem, and after 18 years in Nakusp, it still feels as magical as the first day we visited. The staff is always incredibly kind, friendly, and welcoming, creating such a warm atmosphere. The change rooms are spotlessly clean, and everyone we encounter is so pleasant, making every visit a joy. We love sharing this tranquil, beautiful spot with our family and friends—it’s the perfect place to unwind and soak in the serenity. The scenic drive to get here is a treat in itself, and that stunning walking trail just steps from the hot springs is the cherry on top. We’re so grateful to call Nakusp home and to have the village run such an exceptional facility. We feel so lucky to have this slice of paradise right in our backyard. Thank you for keeping it so wonderful—we’ll be back again and again! With heartfelt thanks, The Bear Ridge Cabins Team

My original plan was to do the hike to the lake and take a dip and hit the road again but honestly fell in love with everything about this hidden gem. Friendly staff, clean and well managed amenities so I decided to come back the next day hiking from town (didn’t stay at their resort due to relatively higher fees for the tent sites lol). This trail was longer than the lake hike but absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended for people who are into hiking and want to relax after. Not recommended on weekend though as Sunday was really busy.

Lovely hot springs in the mountains, great views all around when you are in the hot springs. I did find myself wishing there was a cold pool to cool off between dips in the springs, especially as the day was warming up. Loved the walk to the historic source, which has recently been board-walked in several spots. Stunning mossy forest!

Spent a couple nights in the RV camp area...I was in site 21 which worked really well for me as it's located away from most of the other sites and my 16' Airstream Bambi tucked into the spot quite nicely. Arrived on Day 1 about 2pm, dropped off my trailer and headed to Halfway Hot Springs which was an awesome adventure to a public remote riverside hot spring. Came back to Nakusp Hot Springs in time for dinner and then got the evening pass which was also good for all day soaking the next day. Everything was fantastic...the icing on the cake was the hiking trail adjacent to the parking lot. The trail has recently been improved with some fantastic wooden walkways. I made it to the old hot springs area...just a beautiful hike.

Beautiful spot deep in the mountains ⛰️ 😍 Quiet peaceful tranquil!!!!! We had the smaller room in the back of the cabins was well stocked for what it is. I would suggest a shower hose type so one could rinse off after the day. The tube was well let's say tiny. The price was far far better than any of the local ( BC ) hot springs and was sufficient for us We enjoyed our stay very much.

My husband and I spent an amazing two days at the resort. We stayed in one of the small chalets it was clean and well maintained. Staff were wonderful taking as much time as we needed to ask question about the resort. A lovely piece of Kootenay history.

Nakusp Waterfront Walk is a picturesque stroll along the waterfront, starting near the beach and ending at the dock. The walk features well-kept gardens with a stunning variety of flowers and fantastic views of the lake and mountains. It's a serene and relaxing spot, perfect for a leisurely break during work hours. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views in every season, from bright blooms in summer to autumn tones in fall.
Excellent walk, paved trail, lit at night. Perfect place to walk a dog or take a stroll. Excellent views of the lake and mountains. Very casual smooth walk that avoids hills and has steps up along the way to easily get into town or down to the water. Plenty of benches to rest on.

The best chocolates I've ever had. That's it. There's no competition. I'd pay Anything she asked to have her chocolates. You just can't beat a handmade chocolate like hers.
