Bodies of Water
Lake Muskoka, located in Ontario's Muskoka region, is a popular destination for leisure activities such as fishing and boating. The area is known for its cottage-framed landscape and numerous islands that offer a blend of peace and excitement to cottagers, residents, and tourists. With an abundance of cottages along the shoreline and on various islands, Lake Muskoka provides a luxurious natural setting.
I recommend 100%! Boat rides are great, the scenery is beautiful and I feel safe here. I grew up in Muskoka and it's just genuinely an amazing place.
A F — Google review
Muskoka is an amazing place to enjoy the outdoors. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, with crystal-clear lakes and lush forests everywhere you look. It’s perfect for boating, walking along scenic trails, camping under the stars, or enjoying a relaxing picnic with family and friends. The area feels peaceful and refreshing, making it a great escape from the city. Whether you’re looking for adventure or just some quiet time in nature, Muskoka has something for everyone.

Lake Muskoka Circle Tour (95 km Circle drive) We took the Lake Muskoka Circle Tour, a 95-km scenic drive around the lake — and it was absolutely fantastic! The fall colours were just stunning, with golden, red, and orange trees all along the road. We visited three beautiful towns — Bala, Port Carling, and Bracebridge — each full of life, cozy shops, and a small but charming waterfall. The atmosphere everywhere was joyful and welcoming. The weather couldn’t have been better — warm, around 20°C, and almost sunny. A perfect day to explore Muskoka’s autumn beauty. Highly recommend this route to everyone — families, couples, and anyone who loves nature and road trips! 🍁
VL — Google review
Lake Muskoka is excellent for watersports and boating given its large size. There are many cottages on the shores of Lake Muskoka as it was the first lake to be developed. It is a popular lake among families as there are a lot of summer activities including sailing camps, golf lessons, Santa’s Village, hiking, beaches and parks. This lake has many scenic islands, and you can often find the steamships cruising at sunset. We love Lake Muskoka for it’s location close to amenities and beautiful scenery.
Jack M — Google review
The most beautiful lake in Bracebridge & Gravenhurst. A lot of different kinds of birds with some great fishing spots as well!
Simon P — Google review
Lake Muskoka is crazy busy. It is a lovely body of fresh water surrounded by cottages and not a lot of wildlife.
Daniel H — Google review
Best vacation destination. You can come here year round (provided you have the equipment) and fun will be had. Lots of fish and the water is great. It is often quite warm and great for any water activity. You can boat to so many places on the lake (gravenhurst for example) and go shopping or eat something. Rent a cottage here and see for yourself!
Stephen — Google review
You are allowed to participate in many water activities in this huge body of freshwater. Some things you can do are boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing and swimming as well as other activities I am unaware of. Many people own cottages on the lake and wherever you go you are sure to be in awe of the pristine landscape, plentiful wildlife and clean water. Absolutely a place to take in the most beautiful water scenery on the vast Lake Muskoka. This lake is also VERY deep in some places and typically has a rocky shoreline where Forest often meets and even hangs over the water or a rock cliff juts straight up from the water. A sandy and weed free beach is a very rare thing on Lake Muskoka, but they do exist, most are man made/maintained. Due to the sheer size of the lake it takes a long time to freeze solid in the winter so ice fishing can be a dangerous sport if you are not versed in the matter. As well, the wind also will pick up very quickly on the water/ice again because of its size. Lake Muskoka can be a dangerous place but its beauty is beyond words.

Awenda Provincial Park

Public beach
Awenda Provincial Park, the second-largest provincial park in Ontario, spans 2,900 hectares of forested land. The park offers campgrounds, hiking and biking trails, and a lake where visitors can enjoy swimming and sunbathing on its five mixed sand/stone beaches. Birdwatchers will appreciate the diverse bird species found in the area. The drive into the park is surrounded by protected forests, providing a stunning natural setting for outdoor enthusiasts.
I had a wonderful time tent camping with my partner and my dog here. We were in the quiet zone and we were able to fully relax in nature. There were so many acorns during our time there, it was such a fun experience. We also did some of the trails there and I found them to be all very well kept and beautiful. My only negative (and to be honest I don't care that much) would be that there is a lot of distance between locations so you end up driving more than expected. Would definitely come back!
Olivia — Google review
stayed at snake campground. campsites are big and private, very quiet. Beaches are nice though a bit rocky. Trails are a bit boring compared to other popular parks. Overall good experience.
Peng H — Google review
The beach is almost sandy with large stones but great for swimming with lots of waves. The camp sites are fully shadowed so no sky watching at night or direct sunlight during the day but the wind blowing in the trees makes great scenes. The forest is pretty dense but the camp sites are mostly exposed. So less privacy. Also book Hawk and Wolf campsites for electricity. The washrooms are regularly cleaned. We enjoyed our stay.
Shadi — Google review
This is a beautiful Province Park. Just a 1 hour drive from Creemore Ontario. They have 4 beaches, inland lake and lots and lots of hiking trails. We decided to go to Awenda, looking for a fishing spot, but ended up doing more hiking than fishing. The roads in the park are well maintained and wined through the amazing forest. As we were only there for a day pass, we didn't go to the camping side of the park. There are lots of parking spots at the beaches and the inland lake. There are trails everywhere. Our next beach day will definitely be there. BBQ food and swimming on tree lined beaches.
Wylam S — Google review
One of the larger provincial parks closer to the GTA. Vast area with multiple trails. Camp sites are mostly private, but one can still see and hear the neighboring sites. The comfort stations are clean with warm showers. Since the park is large it takes quite a bit of driving to get anywhere, from the entrance to the office, and then to the campsite, and to the wood depot / park store and to the beach. The beach trail connecting the beaches is very scenic and quite a short hike that anyone can make. It is quite amazing how each beach feels different and the weather in each one of them varies quite a bit. The trail is well maintained and there are multiple toilet vaults (no running water) and garbage bins along the trails. Planning to go back in the fall because the park mostly has tall Maples and Oaks, and it should be spectacular just driving around.
Naga S — Google review
Park is huge. Very nice and big camp sites with lots of trees. There was a lot of rain when we went and the camp sites are very clean, no puddles or stagnant water. Neat well maintained washrooms in campsites. Beach is very nice except it is all rocky beach. We couldn't do kayak as ours is inflatable kayak and could not take chance with all those rocks, but if you have a stable kayak, it is very good for kayaking. Lots of parking around the beach area. A couple of things i did not like were: 1. There are no change rooms / flushable toilets near the beach. 2. Beach is too far from camp sites. We must drive.
Jas P — Google review
What an amazing place! We camped here for 3 nights over the father's day weekend. Check in was super easy and the staff were extremely friendly. Our campsite (site #71 in hawk) was gorgeous, clean and had so much privacy. They have a few nice trails here our favorite was the methodist point via beach trail. It was almost 6km and took us about 1.5hrs. Stunning scenery around Todd point. The beach was beautiful and super clean and the water was perfect for some swimming. We even took our Paddle boards out in the waves. The highlight of the weekend. Kettle lake beautiful as well and much bigger than I though it would be. Just be aware they do not have canoe rentals before July. We enjoyed our camping trip to awenda so much, it deserves the 5/5.
Brent — Google review
Lush green and beautiful. Very peaceful, wasn't crowded. Great spot to get a canoe at kettle lake. Would suggest carrying food from the nearest market because once you enter the park the closest eatery will be atleast 4 miles away. Carry bug spray as well.

Martyrs' Shrine

Mentioned on
11 lists
Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the picturesque town of Midland, Martyrs' Shrine has been a beacon of faith and history since its establishment in 1926. This stunning Roman Catholic church is dedicated to the Canadian Martyrs, commemorating their profound impact on the nation over four centuries. Visitors flock here annually for pilgrimage, drawn by its breathtaking hilltop views and serene atmosphere. The shrine features beautiful stained glass windows that come alive with candlelight during special events like First Light.
Our family had the blessed opportunity to visit the Martyrs’ Shrine Church, and it was truly a peaceful and spiritual experience. From the moment we entered the grounds, we felt a sense of calm and holiness. The church itself holds deep history — dedicated to the Canadian Martyrs (Jesuit missionaries) who gave their lives spreading the faith. Being in a place with such strong spiritual heritage was humbling, and learning about the relics and their significance made the visit even more meaningful. We were fortunate to attend the Holy Mass during our visit, and afterwards, we received blessings with the relics. Standing there, in the presence of such sacred treasures, felt like being embraced by the grace of God. Spending time in prayer at the feet of Mother Mary was another beautiful highlight. It was a reminder that in her care, we are always safe and loved. it was a heart-touching experience for our whole family — peaceful, faith-strengthening, and unforgettable. We left with renewed hope, joy, and a deeper closeness to God. 🙏
Shiji G — Google review
We had just gone up to visit and see the church and the overall shrine together as a family. It was recommended to us by another family member who had gone. There was a pilgrimage and they were celebrating the Virgin of Guadalupe. The space itself was magnificent. Big open fields and lots to do. We didn’t realize we could have a picnic there. We were able to bring our dog along (keep in mind, pets are not allowed inside the actual church) to walk around the overall shrine. There was lots of parking space and accessible bathrooms. The only complaint I guess I had was that entry fee was $10 per person. I know that’s not a lot but especially with a big family it got pretty costly. Otherwise beautiful place.
Tamika B — Google review
This is such a beautiful and peaceful place. The church is located on the highest hill in the area and is beautiful inside and out. Relics of the martyrs are inside and can be viewed. The grounds are well kept with several shrines and an area called "Brebeuf's Prayer Garden". What impressed me most was the canes and crutches on the walls of the shrine left by people who claim to have been healed here.
Dan T — Google review
Martyrs’ Shrine is a truly special place. The church and grounds are peaceful, beautiful, and full of history. It’s a meaningful site where you can reflect, pray, or simply enjoy the serene atmosphere. The architecture is inspiring, and the staff and volunteers are welcoming and kind. Whether you visit for spiritual reasons or to learn more about the Canadian Martyrs, this shrine leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Midland area.
Martin J — Google review
Beautiful place of worship. Many friends and family have indicated their prayers have been answered when praying here. I am not of Christian faith however after visiting here for the first time I can definitely feel the energy. They have a casing of Father Brebeauf's skull which is also very unique.
Niro T — Google review
Remarkably stunning and memorable, the Martyrs Catholic Church Shrine is a testament to the history and religious faith of the Canadian Martyrs. Will leave you astounded at the two reliquaries where preserved bones of the Martyrs lie and surrounding canes, crutches & others ex- votos adorn the area as witness to the healing and graces received. Beautiful and expansive grounds with parking available. On site is visitor information chalet, restaurant with optional outdoor patio and gift shop with religious relics, gorgeous rosaries, holy water and books. Suitable for young children however, access to the shrine is via stairs only and somewhat steep/ lengthy. Admission also includes “Sainte -Marie among the Hurons”, Ontario’s first European community & headquarters for the French Jesuit Mission to the Huron-Wendat people. Amenities on site. Enjoy the walk to the Sainte-Marie among the Huron through the guide footpath or by car ( across the street) with onsite parking. Enjoy a full day of history, gardens, food & exploration of both ensuring lasting memories!
Deborah D — Google review
Spectacular Gateway for those who want to experience a local pilgrimage. An entrance of 10Cad p/h adults. 12 under free. You can bring your picnic basket and have some nature’s family get together under the trees(available tables at the parking site). Don’t forget to get your souvenirs at souvenir shop.
Lhoncelot — Google review
Reached just in time to attend Mass, walked around the complex. Keep your entry reciept to be able to visit Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. A day well spent.

We were very underwhelmed by Wasaga beach as a whole, however this was the highlight of the trip. We thoroughly enjoyed this mini putt course it felt like a mini trip to Florida in here. Definitely recommend if you’re already in the area!

Probably the best mini golf spot I've ever been to! So creative
Meg G — Google review
I really enjoyed the setup and gardens! Awesome photo opportunities! I took my family for a fun outing, and they loved it!
Moon G — Google review
This mini putt was so much fun. Great design, amazing atmosphere, the perfect way to end a day at the beach. The staff were amazing and the facilities were great. I will be going back for sure. Especially since my son won a free game on the last hole.
Stephen G — Google review
We visited Skull Island on a cooler day this summer with our group of five adults, two kids under 8, and a baby, and we honestly had the best time! The course was fun, creative, and kept everyone entertained from start to finish. The kids loved the pirate theme, and even the adults got competitive and enjoyed every hole. The atmosphere is so family-friendly, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. It was such a great way to spend time together, and we’re already talking about going back next season. Highly recommend for families or anyone looking for a fun activity in Wasaga Beach!
Alma D — Google review
Visited Skull on its last-but-one day of the season. It is one of the best mini-golf courses we've played. Lots of fun. Reasonable price. The whole place is in great shape; obviously the owners and staff care about the details. We'll be back next season!
David S — Google review
The kids and I made this summer the summer we did all of the mini golf courses in Wasaga Beach. We rated them in 6 different categories out of 50 points. We love Skull Island… it’s forever been the place we go. The theme is so on point and we love shaved ice!!! Our only critiques would be the lack of seating for our teen with mobility issues and the garbage on the course sometimes this summer.
Coach T — Google review
Great atmosphere & fun the whole family. I came here last week with a friend. The course is fun to look at, all the water, the greens were very clean and they even have little clipboards to hold your scorecard & pencil! Nice detail. However, the course was not challenging. All except 18 are par 3 but we did most of them in 1-2. This makes it great for kids and families but if you’re an experienced mini golf fan, don’t be surprised if breeze through all 18 holes.

Nature & Parks
Horseshoe Resort, located just outside of Barrie, offers a mix of alpine and Nordic skiing experiences. The resort provides convenient ski-in/ski-out accommodations and is equipped with top-notch facilities for both cross-country and downhill skiing. In addition to its 26 ski runs, the resort boasts four restaurants and a range of winter activities for families to enjoy. The hotel rooms are spacious and well-maintained, while the condos offer modern amenities and stunning views.
Horseshoe resort was our home base for a weekend of adaptive mountain biking. We were well taken care of by the whole crew. They went out of their way to make the location wheelchair accessible and comfortable for our large group and families to stay for the weekend. The service at the patio and restaurant was fantastic. We had the opportunity to test out their bike patrol first aid services and they were top notch too! Thank you for welcoming our group, we will definitely be back 😊
Jen G — Google review
We enjoyed our stay here during March break for a ski vacation. The hill is nice and well maintained and the cost was good for the ski package. The pool is nice but a bit crowded as they allow people from off resort to use it. The food is the low point see my review on that below.
Simon M — Google review
Rooms are outdated. Definitely not for adults. We tried the “glow in the dark” mini golfing, and it was just strips of coloured LED lights. We had to hold our flashlights to play. Kayaking was fine. However, we got tickets for 10 people and when we got to the water, they didn’t have enough kayaks. They should have told us in advance that they wouldn’t have enough. Also, everything closes pretty early. Spend your money elsewhere.
RJeyaCanvas J — Google review
We stayed in a loft room in the hotel. The room is dated and was not cleaned very well. For the price we paid it was extremely disappointing. The railing up to the loft is all chipped and the carpeted stairs are dirty. There are stains on every piece of furniture. Honesty, I really did not want to sit on them. There were chips left under the chair in front of the fireplace from the previous guest, and the stairs were dirty going down to the fireplace. The bathrooms and bed seemed clean. The service was amazing. The food at the Crazy Horse restaurant was excellent. I was extremely disappointed to see all the shampoo, conditioner, body wash and soap made in China... Can you not support a Canadian Company in any province???
Lara G — Google review
We did not stay overnight. We spent the day this past summer, experince are abundant and staffs are friendly. We did the mining experiment, ski lift, wall climbing, pulled tube on the beach, mini golf. And we did treetop trekking with separate cost. Perfect activity for family
Astrid K — Google review
The hotel stay was nice but you will not get to enjoy privacy of the amenities like the pool and hot tub because the residents that had special need (autism) will be in your face (closer than 30cm) constantly asking what your favourite colour is and not listening to you at the same time, while following you around. Their care givers will not do anything because they expect you to give extra attention otherwise you’re not a good person. I feel for the families that have special need children and I respect them, but following this incident I feel the individuals monopolized the area where others have to give out their rights in order to make ways for the special needs. Edit: in response to the owner’s comment, please review the fact that the disabled individuals (male) are constantly FOLLOWING girls around, intruding a safe distance and CORNERING the girls to “answer their questions”. If expecting the least bit of help and support is called “wanting exclusivity” then I have no words. Putting the victim in blame because the other party is disabled discarded the last bit of expectation that the management and security of the resort can do the right thing. Best of luck!
Michelle C — Google review
Horseshoe resort didn't meet our expectations.Old building needs renovation. Dirty, stained armchairs in the lobby. Crowded small outdoor pool. Five 🌟 to staff and one to a manager. Breakfast isn't included. At the front desk, was one staff member who was doing a job for two. There is no beach,it's a small pond for kids to play. For the same amount of money that we had to spent here, we decided to go to Dominican all-inclusive next time. And 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟🌟 to staff. Young guys are doing a really great job there!
Briana K — Google review
Just finished a 3 day/2 night stay in a slope side room. Staff have always been friendly, food at the Iron Horse is good but a bit pricy and we had to wait about 45 minutes for dinner. When we entered our room and had ice cubes fall on the floor I wiped the floor and it was so dirty. We couldn’t walk bare foot in the room as your feet were filthy from the dirty floors. Don’t think they had been moped or it was the same dirty water used from other room. Quite disappointing for paying $856 for 2 nights. My real concern is we killed 2 cockroaches at 3:30am and when I informed the desk at check out there was no discussion or offer of discount etc. The back 9 on the golf course is horrendous as there is no irrigation and it’s been a dry summer. Even the greens are brown and the ground is all cracked. They shouldn’t be charging people for 18 holes when only 1/2 of the course is what I’d call a golf course. Golf price definitely needs to be adjusted to the cost of only 9 holes.

Housekeeping was friendly and efficient - we needed extra towels and they not only sent them up quickly, but brought them in and organized them for us! Even the concert staff stood out — so cheerful which really added to the fun. The hotel was spotless. Our room super clean and beautifully set up. The pool area was a highlight — bright, clean, and well-stocked with towels. The hot tub was perfect after a long drive, and while the sauna wasn’t in service, it honestly didn’t take away from how nice the space was. We had dinner at St. Germain’s Steakhouse and it was excellent. The food was delicious, and the service was surprisingly fast for such a busy spot. Overall, everything about the stay felt smooth and enjoyable. Can’t wait to start planning my next visit!

We had a great time! Our room was upgraded to a jr suite, which was awesome. It was huge, comfortable and very nice. The pool area and sauna/steam rooms were perfect after a long day of walking the casino floor. The property was really nice too, lots of apple trees down the walking trail.

Amazing resort. I am not much for gambling, but really enjoy the concert venue. Rooms are beautiful, very clean and spacious. Great staff. Food at Match Restaurant is excellent (we didn’t get to try the others). Tim’s on site is open 24 hrs. Lovely shops as well featuring local indigenous artists. Well worth the drive!

The hotel is very nice, and decorated beautifully. Room was large and clean. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, some at reasonable prices. I'm not really a casino person but it seemed ok but hate to see live dealers replaced with machines on craps and roulette.

Rama Casino is definitely one of the best casinos in Ontario. It’s a great spot for entertainment and enjoyment, especially for spending weekends. The gaming platforms are exciting, and if played properly, there’s a good chance of getting returns and having fun at the same time. The only area I’d say could improve is the complimentary drinks — taste-wise, they aren’t the best quality. Otherwise, everything else is excellent. Overall, I would give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I'm writing to express my gratitude for the incredible experience I had during my recent stay at your establishment. I was thoroughly impressed by the beautiful building and event space, the fantastic restaurants, and the sheer opulence of the rooms and suites. The casino was also a highlight, and the complimentary $10 card was a thoughtful touch that enhanced the experience. Thank you again for providing such a high level of service and a memorable stay. I look forward to returning soon.

My family and I recently visited Casino Rama with our children. While our experience initially had a few challenges (through no fault of the hotel), I wanted to take a moment to highlight the outstanding customer service we received from Crystal Wilson. Crystal was incredibly understanding and empathetic when we shared our concerns. Her professionalism and genuine care made a significant difference in turning our experience around. It’s clear that your team truly values its guests and goes above and beyond to ensure they feel heard and supported. Casino Rama is a beautiful resort, and thanks to the exceptional service we received, we’re very much looking forward to returning. I highly recommend it as a wonderful getaway destination.

They have huge parking lots. Its a really nice beach for relaxing and having a little swim. My kids really loved the little train ride. Plenty of picnic tables are placed everywhere in the park. There should be more shower and changing areas available. Kids play area is really nice with lots if optionsz

2024 September 2.5★ Located near the port, this beach is small and has a lot of pebbles. A small playground and washrooms are available, but really, It's just an ok beach. It would be better if the beach was combed and rocks removed. No dog signs are around, but you still see them there. People need to be more considerate for everyone and at the very least, pick up after your dog. Otherwise, the waters are ok. Overall, the beach is fine for those in the area. However, not quite a place to venture on to.

After lunch we took a stroll down to the waterfront in Orilla, and to our surprise it was absolutely beautiful. This was our first time visiting the waterfront. There were plenty of trails to walk, a couple of sandy beach spots with public washrooms/change rooms, a fantastic kids jungle gym, splash pad and an outdoor theatre. Plenty of picnic tables and beautiful grounds to have a picnic with your family and friends. There were many options for snacks and ice cream to purchase, and the nearby restaurants are a short walk.

Beautiful beach located in Orilia. A great place for the family. Kids can enjoy the small park, a short train ride and safe swimming for all to enjoy. Well maintained area (clean bathrooms facilities, and green areas). Enjoy admiring the boats along the water horizon. With a welcoming community, this beach park is a must to visit with the family!

The entire waterfront was under construction, part of the Centennial was closed. Managed to find a parking near the railway for kids. The scenery along the boardwalk was beautiful. Still in late May, not many boats in the water yet. A little windy, pretty quiet.

Spirit Catcher

Sculpture
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled along the picturesque shores of Kempenfelt Bay, the Spirit Catcher stands as a striking 21-metre kinetic sculpture that draws inspiration from indigenous mythology, particularly the thunderbird. Crafted by artist Ron Baird for Expo 86 in Vancouver, this impressive piece was later donated to enhance Barrie's artistic landscape and installed in 1987. Today, it serves as a prominent landmark and cultural symbol for both locals and visitors alike.
The Barrie Spirit Catcher is an iconic and mesmerizing landmark along Kempenfelt Bay. Its towering metal wings are not only a stunning piece of art but also a symbol of the city’s Indigenous heritage and vibrant spirit. A must-see spot for anyone visiting Barrie—especially at sunrise or sunset, when it stands beautifully against the sky.🍂
Gurkamal S — Google review
Great place to reflect on Canadian history and have a moment of reflection. Ron Baird's Spirit Catcher. He states that the inspiration for his sculpture stemmed from the oral traditions of the Anishinaabe. I photographed this sculpture using a Kodak Brownie Bullet. This camera was manufactured in the same year that numerous residential schools opened their doors. For example the "Amos Indian Residential School" (1955-1973) was essentially a concentration camp where thousands of innocent children were mercilessly abused at the hands of the Church. When I removed the film roll my finger slipped and the 127 spool loosened a lot. They allowed for massive light leaks and caused major damage before I secured it. The damage to the film stock is indicative of the damage done to the European and Anishinaabe relationship. Furthermore the light leaks appear as if they are erasing the sculpture much like Canada's efforts to erase Indigenous people.

I was very impressed with experiencing the Spirit Catcher. I received my new spirit from there. Barrie is an amazing place to visit. I love ❤️ it so much and will visit again with my family 👪 I visited today with Kumar & Mark 📌 Kumar is the owner of Soldier Gear and Mark 🚩 is the Barber at Soldier Gear also. Designed by artist Ron Baird, this iconic structure stands tall at the waterfront, resembling a large bird with outstretched wings. Its dynamic form and gleaming steel construction make it a captivating focal point along the scenic shoreline of Kempenfelt Bay. The Spirit Catcher serves as a beacon of inspiration and creativity, inviting visitors to contemplate its beauty and significance. Whether admired from afar or explored up close, this beloved sculpture embodies the spirit of Barrie and is a must-see attraction for locals and tourists alike. Parking is available

Beautiful boardwalk, so in love with it: excellent for family times, biking, long walking (I did 10 km back and forth). With the autumn, you don't even notice that you do the workout : it's so beautiful out there

Very big metal statue of a thunderbird called Spirit Catcher donated in 1986. Created by Artist Ron Baird. Looks rustic. Parking is available right beside the statue but it is not free. We came in the winter months and the path is not clear so you have to climb over snowbanks if you want to get closer to the plaques to read information about the art installation. It’s a good 5 min break or for a quick drive by as a point of interest if you happen to be in the area.

Churches & Cathedrals
The Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, a Gothic Revival-style church, was built in 1888 on the highest point in Guelph. Constructed entirely of locally quarried limestone, this impressive structure is considered one of Joseph Connolly's best works. The renowned Canadian architect specialized in Gothic Revival churches and designed this cathedral to rival St. Peter's in Rome.
I had the opportunity to visit the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate in Guelph on a weekday, and it was a truly serene and awe-inspiring experience. The basilica’s stunning Gothic Revival architecture, intricate stained glass windows, and beautifully detailed interiors make it a must-see for anyone visiting Guelph. The quiet weekday atmosphere allowed me to fully appreciate the peaceful ambiance and the grandeur of this historic church. Whether you’re there to pray, admire the craftsmanship, or learn about its history, the basilica offers a sense of calm and reflection that’s hard to find elsewhere. A beautiful landmark and a testament to timeless architecture – highly recommended for history, art, and architecture enthusiasts.

It's the kind of place that makes you stop and just take it all in. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Guelph. It's easy to find, and wandering around inside is a great way to spend some time. It gives you a real sense of the city's character and history.

I visited the BASILICA OF OUR LADY IMMACULATE today, which is in Guelph. It was a half an hour drive from my place in Waterloo and I have been wanting to visit the Bascillica for the longest time ever. Although the website said the Basilica closes at 3 pm, we were able to visit and pray in peace when we reached there at 3:30 pm. The place has a very calm and soothing vibe, it's very peaceful and beautiful. I spent around 20 minutes there talking to GOD. And then witnessed the amazing architecture. One should visit the Bascillica if they need a break from the busy world and want some peace and time to talk to GOD. Don't forget your 3 wishes if you're visiting the Bascillica for the first time. 🤭

The skating experience here was great! Went on a Saturday night and loved that it was not over crowded. The park was so cute with lights and skate rentals provided on site. There were washrooms and some staff available to help on ice. Skate aids require a helmet rental and are limited to around 4 so it’s first come first serve. We are new skaters and once on the ice, it was manageable but if you need support like rails or barriers then this may not be the outdoor rink for you. There was also ample parking on site. Would recommend.

Ok this park is awesome. We went around 11:30am so still plenty of parking. We did the petting zoo, splash pad, park and mini golf. We had alot of fun although my daughter fell at the splash pad hitting her head, saying it was quite slippery. Will take water shoes next time. Everything else is great though and will go back.

Yonge Street Animal Hospital was incredibly considerate when I shared my dog’s condition and they helped get him seen right away. From reception, to technicians, to veterinary, the clinic is outgoing and has created a very welcoming environment. My dog Peanut is typically nervous in new environments, especially when he is being examined. Dr. Bastos and the team made Peanut as comfortable as possible. We were amazed that he did not exhibit any anxiety or fear and discomfort was minimal. This is how we knew we brought Peanut to the best possible clinic. Both my fiancée and I are incredibly grateful to the entire team for helping Peanut get back to his normal self. We are so happy to have a reliable and trustworthy veterinary clinic so close to home. Thank you all!

I've been bringing my pets to this veterinary clinic for two years, and I cannot recommend them enough. The level of care and affection they show to all my animals is truly heartwarming. Specifically, I have a 13-year-old dog who requires extra attention due to her age, and the team here has always made sure she receives the care she needs to stay comfortable and healthy. It's also a huge plus that they have Brazilian veterinarians on their team, which adds a touch of familiarity and ease for those who prefer to communicate in Portuguese. Their professionalism, combined with genuine care for animals, makes this clinic outstanding. Highly recommended!

A huge thank you to Dr. Crozier, Philippe, and the rest of the team for taking such great care of my Lady. Was able to have her examined within less than an hour of noticing her facial swelling and everyone was so gentle with me while I was panicking and fearing the worst due to past trauma of losing my other babies to cancer. I was updated every step of the way after her check in and even sent photos of her to put my anxious mind at ease. The Aga Khan Museum, with its striking contemporary architecture, is a unique institution in North America dedicated to showcasing the artistic and scientific contributions of global Muslim communities. The museum's 1,000-piece permanent collection includes intricate objects, drawings, architectural elements, jewelry, and illustrated books from various Islamic civilizations dating back to the tenth century. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts rotating exhibitions and special events that explore diverse aspects of Islamic culture.
I loved the Aga Khan Museum—it presents Islam in a sophisticated and authentic way, just as it truly is. The exhibits feature ancient Islamic details that are rich, meaningful, and deeply inspiring. Most of the staff are elderly, and their kindness and warmth made me feel like I was being welcomed by grandparents. Visiting this museum feels like stepping into another world—calm, spiritual, and beautifully serene. The architecture of the building is truly distinctive, both inside and out. Everything is spotlessly clean, and the choice of colors and the attention to detail are simply exceptional. This is by far the most beautiful museum I have ever visited. I truly appreciate the efforts of every employee working there.

The Aga Khan Museum is honestly one of the most beautiful spots in Toronto. The outside of the building itself is stunning and super peaceful with so much natural light. I felt like I landed in a foreign place. The staff are all friendly and polite, making u feel welcomed into their space. Altough I would wish they can have a staff member at the entrance welcoming in guests and leading them to checkin. The exhibits are amazing — you really get to see the richness of Islamic art and history, and everything is presented in such a modern, thoughtful way for all kinds of audiences to learn and explore. The gardens and reflecting pool outside are perfect for just sitting and relaxing after walking through the galleries. There is a small cafe inside as well. Overall, such a unique and inspiring place. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for something unique and meaningful to do in the city.

We took the guided tour of the”As the Sun Appears from Behind,” which was absolutely fascinating. It’s a temporary exhibit from the Al Budra award-winning Islamic art. Adding to the vibe, a duo played Islamic music in the courtyard. The restaurant menu (available on the website) looked very tasty. Since we visited between lunch and dinner, we enjoyed the fresh offerings at the cafe. We highly recommend this oasis. It was about 30 minutes by Uber from our hotel in Toronto, but well worth the effort. Also glad to see that the cafe used cutlery produced from plant starch rather than plastic. Oh, don’t miss the signature museum piece “Your Way Begins on the Other Side.” It’s a contemporary work 18’x6’ made with over one million gold plated pins. (See last of photos.) it speaks to the pitfalls and paradoxes encountered on the journey toward spiritual bliss.

Located in a cozy complex that is modern and chic, Aga Khan provides a glimpse into the Islamic culture and traditional art that is both astonishingly stunning and intellectually inspiring. We spent the afternoon in the museum and learnt a lot of about the culture. The permanent exhibition brings artefacts from around the world into the building, with many approaching a thousand years of age and still preserved in very good condition. We were slightly disappointed from the fact that the collection is quite limited, and I wasn’t sure if there is a particular story telling in how the museum collection is planned. It was by region and I feel like I did not learn a lot about how Islam was developed in each region and the contrast and the similarity. The special exhibition we saw was from the calligraphy and we did learn more about the specifics of it, but some of the information was overlapped with the permanent exhibition. Overall it was a joyful 1-2 hour visit but it wasn’t a whole afternoon activity.

Not much to see to be honest. The price for the entry is fair, so I don’t feel scammed. It may be good if you know how to read Arabic or the language on display there. Coat check is included or complimentary. There was some good pieces to see, for example, the old books. Mild experience for me. Maybe worth a visit if you are close by.

The Ontario Science Centre is a must-visit attraction in Toronto, offering over 500 interactive exhibits covering various fields such as geology, astronomy, anatomy, music, and technology. It's a place where visitors of all ages can engage in hands-on learning experiences and explore the world of science through play. The center is dedicated to promoting scientific thinking and innovation for a better future. With its team of scientists and educators, it continuously develops world-class exhibitions and educational programs to inspire curiosity and discovery.
Such a great educational experience. You can go there with your family, too much fun for kids and adults. The staff was friendly. If you are visiting during winter better to know that when you arrive and get your tickets you have to wait for shuttle buses around 5 minutes so don’t take off your jacket ( if you have strollers or wheelchairs you will take accessible buses) There are 6 levels. The best for me were levels 6 and 4. There is no level 1 actually. (the shuttle bus will drop you off in level 6) Level 4 is great for kids they will play music, do gardening, bakery, building and other activities they can also play with water and build dams and … the good point is that level 4 has nursing room too. There are sanitizers everywhere. Clean washrooms with changing table. Better to bring your own snacks and water bottles. But there is restaurant and snack bar inside the building as well. Parking lot costs 12$ Admission fee is: 22$ for adults 16$ for seniors 13$ for child 3-12 Under 3 is free

Since my family and I have a membership, we decided to come and visit the museum today. The bus ride was about 20 minutes. We walked instead of taking the shuttle bus because the line was too long. Previously, we have had experiences of food poisoning from the cafe, so we packed our own lunch and were able to get seating. This museum is amazing. There are exhibits for all- from deep water exploration to bat caves to the reproductive system. Came with kids and explored the play area on the second floor. Had a blast. Overall a great experience and would come back again.

There are a lot of activities for small kids. My 5 year old and 4 year old kids loved the experience. We needed more than 3 hours to truly experience the whole place, which unfortunately we didn't have. The exhibit halls have to be accessed from the rear entrance, and there are frequent shuttle busses that run between the main and the rear entrances. The family center was really fun and engaging for us. It's a great learning experience.

Great experience to re-learn the basic knowledge of Science. Wish I took a picture of the planetarium but I was so busy following the comets ☄️ 🤣 plus the Human anatomy is something that I’m always fascinated about. Not busy during the weekdays but planetarium is packed. These were taken during Spring time (April 2023 if I’m not mistaken) Wish I took my time to read the boards and comments and explore / observe / experience what the kids were doing with tools and machine etc etc kinda wanna go back! 😕

Incredible museum that enchants young and old. The explanations for natural and scientific phenomena and the exhibits are made so interactive that you want to see them all!!! It is worth spending a day. If you have children they will appreciate it. You too. Parking costs 15 CAD. It has a cafeteria inside where you can eat or drink something. But you can also have your own food and sit at tables outside the dining room.

Good place to visit with kids! Big parking space, fee is 12$. Tickets are 22 for adult, 13 for kids. We were there for 3 hours and see only 2 levels, so definitely will visit again. My children like the kids area.

I haven't been back here for a while (a decade +) and forgot how fun and educational this place is! It's definitely a great place to spend the day with kids. There are plenty of interesting things for the adults as well. Did you know there's a big plant called Tulip Tree? I didn't. I like it that the entire place is spacious with high ceilings. There are so many interactive & interesting things strategically placed not too far from each other so visitors don't crowd into one place. Can you spot the dragon lizard?

Was very excited to come here, we arrived later in the day due to other plans having been priority. The main entrance- we realized we needed to take a shuttle to the exhibits as the bridge is closed? We didn’t have to wait long for a ride thankfully (each way). The exhibits don’t seem to have an order to follow and sometimes we found ourselves a little turned around. There’s some on different floors as well. Probably should’ve done research on areas to see prior to going but usually museums and things like this have a better flow. we used a city pass to get tickets which was well worth it since this experience wasn’t our favourite. It’s aimed more so at children and families. It has a lot of fun experiments but it seems very dated in some ways and a lot of things were out of service which was sad. I enjoyed the Moderna exhibit- maybe because I’m in health care. I didn’t learn too much- but what I did was fun little tidbits and I really liked seeing the models and human body in action. We didn’t try food court. Parking was 12$ on entry. It’s a lot of walking as well but they have a lot of accessibility options. A little underwhelmed and disappointed, it seems if you plan your day to do the live experiments and events with the staff it would be better. Also staff was super involved and fun.

Westfield Heritage Village, located in Rockton just a short drive from Hamilton, offers a captivating glimpse into the region's past. The outdoor museum spans 840 acres and features more than 30 meticulously reconstructed historical buildings. Visitors can engage with costumed interpreters who bring to life the culture and lifestyle of Canadians from the late 1800s to the early 1900s.
I had an amazing experience at Westfield Heritage Village! I liked it so much that I visited twice this summer. The first time, I was so impressed that I went back the next day with a friend. The volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, which made our visit even more enjoyable. The village features over 30 historic buildings on a 130 hectare site, offering a fascinating glimpse into the past. It’s a great place to explore and learn about history, with beautiful woodlands, meadows, and trails perfect for peaceful hikes. Highly recommend it for anyone interested in history and nature!

We visited during Maple syrup festival which was also during March break so a popular outing for families. We purchased tickets in advance as they did limit the number of people entering at a time for this event. The tickets were good for 2 hours. Plenty of time to enjoy everything. This is a family friendly, reasonably priced venue . I intend to go back and visit again this summer.

What a marvelous gem! So many open houses and stories. The interpreters were outstanding and the First Nations perspective by Rope was an highlight. We thought 3 hours will be enough but plan to be there 4-5 hours with all the stories you can hear. We will be back!

Westfield Heritage Village is a hidden gem for history lovers and families alike. The village is beautifully preserved, with authentic 19th-century buildings and knowledgeable staff dressed in period costumes. Walking through the village feels like stepping back in time. The blacksmith demonstration was particularly fascinating, and the general store was charming with its vintage goods. The grounds are well-maintained, making it perfect for a scenic stroll. It’s also a great spot for photos, especially during special events. Overall, a wonderful place to spend a few hours learning about Ontario’s past. Highly recommend for a relaxing and educational outing!

This is an incredible historic site! The properties are very well taken care of and the village as a whole is so charming. On sundays there are costumed interpreters and many of the buildings are open. I learned so much! It is interactive and fun for all ages. I went for about three hours and it wasn't long enough to see everything. There were some crafting activities I got to take part in. The general store sells real snacks! (the chocolate chip cookies are really great). Many of the buildings here were used as filming locations for shows like Anne of green gables and Murdoch Mysteries. Learning about medical/ surgical history was my favorite part. If you're lucky you might even get to meet some very pretty horses as some people ride them through the trails here. There is ample parking and the roads are flat and easy to walk. Admission to this site also grants you admission to two hiking trails near by. I came on a sunday at it wasn't busy at all. The storytellers here are very talented. Can't wait to come back!

Jack Darling Park is a wonderful family-friendly spot with a beautiful beach that kids absolutely love. The park has a splash pad, a large playground with rides, and plenty of picnic areas with BBQ facilities, perfect for a fun summer day. The walking and biking trails are excellent for a relaxed stroll or a scenic ride. It does get quite crowded on weekends and holidays, and parking can be tricky, so arriving early is a smart idea. Overall, it is a lively, welcoming park that offers plenty to keep both kids and adults happy.

The park is pretty, beaches are nice, but it's very crowded on the weekends and we couldn't find space in the parking lots. We saw that many many cars had parked on the right side of the road where there are signs that say parking is forbidden on certain hours and days. However, we saw some of the cars there with fines on their windshields. Does someone know what these signs mean then? Those cars were outside of the days and restricted hours so ...utterly confused

Scenic, family-friendly park by the lake Jack Darling Memorial Park is a great spot for all ages—lots of green space, a splash pad, playground, picnic areas, and one of the best off-leash dog parks around. The lakefront views are beautiful, and One of the best parts is that the park connects directly to the Rattray Marsh Conservation Area via the waterfront trail, making it perfect for a longer, scenic walk through nature. It gets busy on weekends, so parking can be tight, but it’s a perfect place to relax or spend time outdoors with family, friends, or your dog.

🌳 Jack Darling Memorial Park – Mississauga Review 🌳 Jack Darling Memorial Park is truly one of the best spots in Mississauga for a picnic or a relaxing day out 🌞🍉. The park is spacious with plenty of sitting areas, making it perfect for families, friends, or even just a solo escape into nature 🪑🧺. 💚 Nature lovers will be amazed – the greenery, walking paths, and overall calm vibes really make this park stand out 🌿🌸. You can easily spend hours here enjoying the fresh air, the views, and the peaceful environment. 🚻 The only drawback is the washrooms – they are available but could definitely be cleaner and more hygienic 😕. That’s one area that needs improvement. ☕ Luckily, there’s a Tim Hortons nearby, so you can grab your coffee, snacks, or even bring along some food before heading into the park 🥤🍩. ✨ Overall, if you’re looking for a beautiful picnic spot in Mississauga, this park is a gem! Just be prepared for the washroom situation, but everything else – nature, space, and convenience – makes up for it. 🌳💫

A hidden gem in Mississauga! It’s a beautiful conservation area with a long boardwalk over the marshes. You can follow the boardwalk all the way to a shingle beach. The beach is fairly long with lovely views of the Toronto skyline. It’s a peaceful place; even on the weekend it was not busy. One of the entrances to the conservation area is from a quiet, secluded residential area. It’s a great place to connect with nature and get some exercise.

Beautiful park! Took the stroller and did the most of the Waterfront Trail, the Knoll Trail and Silver Maple Trail. I would say the Knoll Trail was best for the stroller as it was almost all boardwalk. The Silver Maple Trail had parts where it was less flat / maintained, with tree roots and such, making it a bit harder without a proper jogging stroller. There was a couple of small steps where the Waterfront Trail connected to the Silver Maple Trail, as well. No entrance fees or tickets needed. Overall the park is gorgeous, the trails are well maintained and it is a great spot for hiking!

No tickets required to enter the place. We can park vehicles at Jack Darling memorial Park as there are no parking at Rattray Marsh Conservation area. Dundurn Castle, a stately Italianate villa built in 1835, offers guided tours by costumed interpreters. With over 1,700 square meters of living space and about 40 rooms, this Regency-style manor house showcases stunning Neoclassical design with four grand pillars at its entrance. Once the residence of Sir Allan MacNab, who later became Canada's prime minister, the castle boasted innovative features like running water and gas lighting.
Beautiful, historic place to see. The tour lasted 45-60 minutes and the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of this place and the people who lived here along with servants. The tour brings you back into 1830 with 42 rooms, original furniture, pictures and clothing.. Amazing how things were 'done' 200 years ago, before the industrial revolution. The castle was full of servants and everyone knew their duties. The time very well spent...

We planned on always visiting but something came up so we decided on that day to just go and we did. We loved it beyond words, from start to finish. The atmosphere was incredible, clean, friendly with the staff always greeting us answering anything we needed. The tour guide was the sweetest person very polite and informative as were the other members inside. I would highly recommend visiting and taking a tour. If you’re from Hamilton I would recommend getting your library card to cover the cost. No issues with parking as there was ample space. I would suggest taking the tour twice to fully embrace the experience.

It’s a lovely spot for a stroll, and we look forward to coming back to do the full tour another day.

Even just seeing Dundurn Castle from the outside was worth the trip! The architecture is stunning, and the grounds offer amazing views that make you stop and stare 😍. HMCS Haida, a former Royal Canadian Navy destroyer, is now a museum ship located at Hamilton's West Harbour. As a Parks Canada Historic Site, it offers guided tours and educational events to help visitors understand the experiences of crew members serving on board during World War II and beyond. The ship played a significant role in historic battles and provides insight into its inner workings, from the deck to the engine room.
Came across this completely by surprise on a walk and decided to tour it, and I gotta say this was a blast (literally, they fired blanks across the harbour at one point). The tour is self guided though there are staff members around to give more in depth detail if you desire, and it takes about an hour on a busy day to get around the whole ship. Some ladders and staircases were a little narrow for my personal comfort, but that's hardly a real issue. Definitely worth the visit for any war history fans
Lugosi — Google review
This is a mist visit spot. It portrays the rich history of the Canadian participation in WWII. Going through the destroyer will give you an idea of the endurance of our brave brothers who served on board. It is the only tribal class destroyer that’s left in the world. Try to visit at 12, when they have the firing of the gun. Also, during summer if the temperature gets above 45 degree inside the ship, they will close it. It doesn’t have air conditioning inside so on a hot day expect it to be really hot inside. Dont miss the engine room. It’s absolutely fascinating!
Sanand A — Google review
What a great day trip! The HMCS Haida, Canada’s last surviving Tribal-class destroyer, was an incredible ship to explore—and the best part? Admission was free during our visit. We had a beautiful day in Hamilton, and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly, helpful, and welcoming. They made the experience even better with their kindness and enthusiasm. Exploring the ship gave us a chance to compare Canadian and U.S. naval vessels, which made it all the more fascinating. HMCS Haida is full of history and very well preserved. Walking through the tight corridors and seeing the ship’s layout really made the past come alive. Highly recommend this stop—perfect for families, history buffs, or anyone interested in military or naval heritage.

So nostalgic for me, two of my grandparents fought during WWI and WWII and I get chills being here. It’s a well preserved history, there was also reenactment when we were there. Not a lot of parking so be there as it opens. I recommend getting a ticket, it was free when we were there but still need to pick up our entrance ticket by the booth at the entrance

We went for a day trip and this was a last minute decision. The students/staff were abundant and full of knowledge. To our surprise they had a live gun display. This is a fascinating piece of history. As the ship is so old - my recommendation is to place some charcoal bags to absorb some of the weird smells. I left a donation as the entrance was free.

Exploring HMCS Haida in Hamilton 🇨🇦✨ My first visit here and I have to say, it was such a unique experience. Even with a 45-minute wait, stepping aboard this historic warship made it completely worth it. Walking through the decks felt like taking a step back in time and really brought Canada’s naval history to life. A must-see if you’re visiting Hamilton! 🚢🌊

This is an amazing piece of history that is definitely worth the visit. You are able to walk through the warship on a self guided tour and take as long as you want. There is information along the ways as you climb up and down ladders and see what life was like for the soldiers that served our country on the ship and how it contributed to making Canada what it is today

Visitors can also explore flight simulators and learn about the roles these warplanes played in significant events like the Battle of Britain.
What a great museum. First time coming, and I really enjoyed my time there. Full of beautiful historic planes and equipment. I appreciate the volunteers and people who work there, doing what they do to preserve and maintain these amazing machines and honoring the men and women of the time and what they did. I look forward to returning on Canada Day when the Lancaster fires up. We took the tour led by Phil, very enjoyable. He was entertaining and full of knowledge. Thank you.

Great place to bring kids to, lot of different war time planes to see. There are 2-3 different types of aircrafts where the kids can go in and even sit in the cockpit. Lot of historical information related to specific planes and the role they played during various wars. They have 2 propeller planes which offer the opportunity to fly in them as well. They also have free flight simulators which are a lot of fun. There is a small merchandise shop which is nice. There is ample parking. overall lot of fun for kids and adults alike. Overall must visit place for anyone interested in WWII, Canadian history and aviation history.

Great place to learn about Canada's contribution to the world wars. Minus one star for the aged and disabled who wish to visit the open flight deck but have to walk up 3 flights of stairs. Thanks to all the young and experienced cadets who are really impressive with their product knowledge. The restorers and engineers are doing an amazing job fixing up this rare collection. The Runway cafe is really good value with all the usual fast-food you'd expect. And acknowledgment to the pilots who give their passengers an unforgettable experience

Excellent place to visit and see the planes and learn how they were helpful to RCAF in defending sovereignty of our country. Interactive videos of decorated airforce personnel, who are not amongst us but the museum has kept them to see and learn about their lives. Place worth visiting.

We had our wedding here in October 2025. Stevie-Jane couldn’t have been more accommodating and easy to deal with. She communicated everything to us clearly and set expectations appropriately!! The day went as smooth as can be! All of our guests said the venue was so unique and fun! If you’re looking for a unique, and classy wedding venue, this is the place to be!!

What an awesome place. My 13 yr old wants to be a pilot and just being there with him was such a great experience. There was a large group of air cadets when we were there so we could not get a guide, but the self guided tour of the museum was fine. Would absolutely recommend to any plane enthusiasts and also anyone wanting to see some really neat Canadian history. Very well maintained, I really loved seeing these planes being restored, just awesome important work! Would definitely go back

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is more than just a museum – it’s an experience. What I loved most was the hands-on aspect. Unlike many museums where everything is kept behind ropes, here you actually get to climb into cockpits and explore the interiors of some of the aircraft. It felt amazing to sit where real pilots once sat and imagine what it must have been like to fly. The collection itself is incredible. Each aircraft comes with detailed stories and history. I was especially impressed that many of the planes are still in flying condition — it’s not just a static display, but a living museum. The museum is also very family-friendly. Kids seemed to love the interactive displays, and adults could spend hours taking in all the history. Overall, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum offers more than just a look at planes — it’s an immersive, hands-on experience that connects you to Canada’s aviation history in a very real way.
Princy U — Google review
The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is an incredible place to visit! You’ll discover so much about aviation and military history through engaging exhibits and displays. One of the highlights is their life-sized interactive avatars, which share fascinating stories and historical details—perfect if you prefer listening instead of reading. The museum also features beautifully restored aircraft, some of which still fly, making the experience even more special. It’s educational, interactive, and enjoyable for all ages—whether you’re a history buff, an aviation enthusiast, or just looking for a family-friendly outing. Recommended 💯% !! 😊

It's a short half-hour drive from Niagra vacation spots and well worth it. Great tasting experience, solid selection with good variety, and a friendly informed staff. I'd make this stop on any trip to Toronto.

We attended the Whiskey weekend and took the tour. A great place and very informative. Bonus was the live music, BBQ, corn hole game, bottle signing, gift shop and the free samples. Definitely going to make this a yearly event. Well worth it.

Forty Creek has been one of my favourite Whisky’s for a while, since the Tariff’s took away Kahlua is no longer obtainable, I decided to try Bolivar’s Coffee Liquor and it is easily a superior product. I always order directly through the distillery and they always get the package to me the next day. This last order was suppose to come with a free 50ml sample of Pickled Vodka that never came in my package, but the shipping is so quick and everything else was right that I don’t really care. The packaging they send the items in is also really nice and ensures the bottles do not ever touch. I hope to get the 3L barrel they sell soon and maybe in the future, get a chance to tour the distillery in Grimsby Ontario.

Forty Creek is an awesome spot to stop if you are looking to purchase, or sample some pretty nice Canadian whiskeys. Brewed right on premises, they have a nice selection from their popular Double Barrel Reserve to their Confederation Oak, and many unique varieties in between. There is something for any whiskey connoisseur. There were specialty items such as their maple flavored whiskey that reminded me of liquid pancakes. Their cream was smooth and delicious as well. Samples were at no charge, but we would have been remiss not not leave a nice tip as the staff was warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The tasting space has gone though some recent renovations and is clean and relaxing. There is a special tasting room available if you book in advance (best for larger groups). There was outdoor seating and a gift shop as well. Restrooms are also on premises. The location is conveniently located just off the QEW in Grimsby, We were in town for a hockey tournament right around the corner and this made for a great stop with the team, in between games. Quite a few bottles left with us to enjoy at home as their products and selections were worth of their purchase price! RECOMMENDATION:. We did not have time, but heard the tour of the facility is well worth it and very informative. We will definitely do this the next time we are in town.
M. K — Google review
We had a terrible experience at Forty Creek Distillery after driving roughly 20 minutes out of our way to visit them. The moment we walked in, we were treated like an inconvenience rather than valued customers. Despite arriving 30 minutes before closing time, they immediately shut down the tasting option and seemed annoyed when we asked to try just one whiskey. The three girls behind the counter had a negative energy and made us feel unwelcome. We were the only customers in the store after a few others left shortly after our arrival, yet they still couldn't be bothered to provide decent service. We ultimately decided not to purchase a bottle from them and will be looking for another local distillery to support. Overall, I was incredibly disappointed with the service at Forty Creek Distillery and would not recommend them to anyone.

Had a wonderful experience tasting the different whiskies produced by fourty creek. It is a facility to buy their liqours and other soveniours branded on Forty Creek.

I popped in yesterday morning to ask if they sell a gift pack I saw online, in the store. The lovely girl said "Unfortunately no, but I can build you something similar if you'd like" For me, that was above and beyond customer service! She was very friendly and helpful, I just wish I got her name.. thank you cashier 000105!

Step back in time and embrace the joy of childhood at the Lakeside Park Carousel. This iconic carousel features over 68 intricately carved animals, including camels, horses, giraffes, goats, and lions, as well as four charming chariots crafted between 1898 and 1905. The nostalgic music from an antique Frati adds to the enchanting atmosphere.
Very nice area. The water was wonderful and my kids really enjoyed it. This is also a great fishing spot. Beach area is small, washrooms and change rooms are available. 3 hour max parking for approx $10. The parking area is a zoo, lol. There's also a park area for the kids to play. There's also a beautiful board walk. I call it lovers lane lol

A beautiful old carousel by the lake! The kids had a great time and it felt like stepping back in time for just five cents. Some of the original animals are still there. We also enjoyed the beach. The water was nice and the kids had lots of fun! Only challenge is getting a parking nearby.

Date of visit: June 28, 2025 A Magical Ride Through Time in Port Dalhousie Step into a piece of living history at the Lakeside Park Carousel, a beautifully restored LOOF treasure that’s been delighting visitors for generations. For just 5 cents a ride, you can hop aboard one of the hand-carved wooden animals and enjoy the charm of this century-old masterpiece. The craftsmanship is stunning, the setting by the lake is picturesque, and the ride is pure joy—whether you’re five or fifty. It’s a popular spot, but don’t worry: lines move quickly thanks to the efficient and friendly staff. A must-visit for families, history lovers, and anyone who appreciates a little old-fashioned magic.

The carousel is right by the beach, surrounded by trees and picnic areas, so it’s easy to make a whole family outing of it. The music and hand-carved horses give it a nostalgic feel, and it’s always well maintained thanks to the city and volunteers. Parking is available nearby, and washrooms are close by in the park. It’s busiest on sunny weekends, but the line moves quickly. Whether you’re visiting with kids or just want a bit of old-fashioned fun, this is a must-see stop in Port Dalhousie — timeless, affordable, and full of heart.

Queen's Royal Park in Niagara-on-the-Lake is a picturesque waterfront green space featuring a small beach, a charming gazebo, picnic tables, benches, and restrooms. It's an ideal destination for a leisurely stroll with stunning views of the Niagara River and Fort Niagara. The park is within walking distance from Queen Street in the old town, allowing visitors to enjoy the colonial-style houses along the way.
After lunch we walked through town and checked out a few shops before finding our way to Queen's Royal Park. It's a beautiful walk way along the river. Very scenic and peaceful. It was nice to just relax and watch some boats go by, and watch people fall off their paddle boards. There was no cost to enter the park.

Situated in the town of Niagara-on-the-lake, this park is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the town. A stretch of lawn with benches for a small picnic or a small beach area to relax and have fun. A small pathway that is nice with a great view of lake Ontario. Just across the street is parking and it is conveniently located near the downtown area. A perfect tourist attraction, period.

The St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre is a small yet captivating museum that offers a deep dive into the history of St. Catharines and the creation of the Welland Canal. Situated at Lock 3, visitors can explore local history exhibits and learn about the impressive engineering behind the canal. The museum also features an elevated observation platform where you can watch ships navigating through the canal system, providing a unique and educational experience for both kids and adults.
Date of visit Thursday may 1st, 2025 History in Motion! 🥍 🚢 Our visit to the St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre was an absolute highlight of our trip to explore the area around the Welland Canal and the many communities that it runs through. This place offers an experience that’s equal parts historic, scenic, and totally unique. The grounds are beautifully maintained, making it a peaceful and inviting spot to wander. But the true showstopper is the canal viewing platform, where we got front-row seats to watch massive ships navigate Lock 3 of the Welland Canal. Watching those vessels rise and lower is nothing short of mesmerizing—a real testament to human engineering and perseverance. Inside the museum, the exhibits are thoughtfully curated, covering a wide range of topics, from regional heritage to the remarkable history of the canal itself. We especially loved the Lacrosse Hall of Fame, a hidden gem within the museum that celebrates the deep-rooted cultural and sporting significance of Canada’s national summer sport. It's interactive, educational, and gives the game the spotlight it deserves. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a ship buff, or just looking for a unique stop in Niagara, this spot is a winner. We left feeling inspired, a little more informed, and already talking about a return visit. It was the perfect spot to start our Welland Canal History Road trip. There is ample free parking on site, and admission to the museum is 100% donations. Pay what you can afford to give.

What a beautiful and interesting place to learn about the history and how the Welland Canal works. It's also an excellent spot to discover and get familiar with one of Canada's national sports: lacrosse. The view of the canal from the observation deck is spectacular, and if you're lucky enough to see a ship in that water lock during your visit, the experience becomes even more impressive. The facility includes clean restrooms, large parking lot, gift shop, audio-visual room, rentable event spaces, picnic tables, an adjacent playground, and a beautiful memorial honoring the many workers who lost their lives over the canal's 200-year history.
Jg M — Google review
The St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre is one of those local gems that beautifully blends history, engineering marvels, and quiet charm. I stopped by on a sunny afternoon and was pleasantly surprised at how much there was to see and learn—especially for a museum that often flies under the radar compared to other Niagara-area attractions. The museum itself is well-curated, offering a deep dive into the history of St. Catharines and the vital role the Welland Canal played (and still plays) in Canada’s transportation story. I especially enjoyed the exhibits on early shipping, local industry, and the stories of the people who built and lived around the canal. But the real magic is outside, on the viewing platform. Watching the massive cargo ships pass through Lock 3, right in front of you, is absolutely mesmerizing. You get a true sense of scale and the incredible engineering that goes into canal navigation. It’s great for kids and adults alike—you can spend a peaceful hour just ship-watching. Your kids can borrow a backpack of explorer. It is free and welcome for donation. The staff are friendly and informative, and the building is clean and accessible, with plenty of parking. Whether you’re a history buff, an engineering fan, or just curious, this museum is well worth the visit.

Visited St. Catherine’s Museum & Welland Local Canal with my family. The complex consist of three areas. The museum itself showcasing the brief history of St Catherine & how the region became an important hub for ship commercial passage from the man made welland series of lock canal. The other part is viewing platform where you can see big ships fit into the locks & follow the process of filling up the water into the lock. Lastly a souvenir shops and information centre at the main entrance of the museum. When we reached it started raining, so we were hardly outside at the viewing platform to see the ship’s height rises as the water fills in the locks. A good experience to witness how the ship travels through the locks starting from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie. Overall we spend 3 hours in the Museum and covered all the sightseeing in the museum complex.
Singhania G — Google review
A fabulous museum of not only the Welland Canal (impressive in its own right) but also of the town of St. Catherine’s. It’s an absolute credit to the town and the museum founders/staff/managers to have the foresight and dedication to amass such a wealth of history and their culture from colonial times right up to modern history. Excellently preserved classic cars, lacrosse history, but the small stuff too e.g. a display in the towns Soap Box derby which ran I. The 60s & 70s. I could have stayed here for hours. Best to time your visit to coincide with some of the big ships passing through the canal (check the ship tracking apps/websites) and then check out the museum, all of which is free.
Gerry B — Google review

The Welland Canal in Ontario, Canada is a significant ship canal that connects Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, forming a crucial part of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway. It allows ships to bypass Niagara Falls by traversing the Niagara Peninsula from Port Weller in St. Catharines to Port Colborne. The canal has historical significance and offers paved trails for walking and cycling, providing opportunities to explore the area's rich heritage while enjoying picturesque views of passing ships.

The Welland Canal is a ship canal in Ontario, Canada, connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. It forms a key section of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway. Traversing the Niagara Peninsula from Port Weller in St. Catharines to Port Colborne, it enables ships to ascend and descend the Niagara Escarpment and bypass Niagara Falls. It is the fourth canal connecting these waterways; three smaller predecessors also bore the same name. The Welland Canal eclipsed other, narrower canals in the region, such as the Trent-Severn Waterway and, significantly, the Erie Canal (which linked the Atlantic and Lake Erie via New York City and Buffalo, New York) by providing a shorter, more direct connection to Lake Erie. The southern, Lake Erie terminus of the canal is 99.5 metres (326 feet) higher than the northern terminus on Lake Ontario. The canal includes eight 24.4-metre-wide (80 ft) ship locks.Seven of the locks (Locks 1–7, the 'Lift' locks) are 233.5 m (766 ft) long and raise (or lower) passing ships by between 13 and 15 m (43 and 49 ft) each. The southernmost lock, (Lock 8 – the 'Guard' or 'Control' lock) is 349.9 m (1,148 ft) in length. The Garden City Skyway passes over the canal, restricting the maximum height of the masts of the ships allowed on this canal to 35.5 m (116 ft).

When visiting Port Colborne, a must-see attraction is the Port Promenade located on West Street. This well-maintained boardwalk offers stunning views of Lock 8, the southernmost lock of the Welland Canal and Lake Erie. The promenade is lined with boutique stores where visitors can find unique gifts and enjoy artisanal chocolate or a quick bite to eat. It's a picturesque spot to watch ships passing through the canal while enjoying the beautifully landscaped surroundings.
Port Promenade was the best part of our day trip to Port Colborne! The sun was shining and it was warming up a bit on the chilly October day that we went. This is where we got the best view of some really big ships going along the canal ... probably the biggest I've ever seen in my entire life! It appeared they wouldn't make it through the locks, but they did! It was such a nice walk along the water and there were lots of lovely shops lining the street on the opposite side. We ventured into the gift shop and the jewellery store where the workers were very knowledgeable and helpful. It was so nice to sit down in the Adirondack/Muskoka chairs afterwards and just enjoy the peace and tranquility. It was a great way to end a wonderful day! 😊👍💜
