Kikomun Creek Provincial Park

Campground
Kikomun Creek Provincial Park is situated near the Town of Fernie in British Columbia, offering a picturesque drive through the Crowsnest Pass area. The park features the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre along the way. The Ponderosa loop campground provides stunning river views and ample space for camping. Although it may feel crowded when full, amenities like water spigots and vault toilets are conveniently located and well-maintained.
This is the best campground! Been coming for 45+ years. There were a few changes with the booking which seemed very cumbersome and out of the ordinary, especially after the long weekend.
Kelly B — Google review
Love the campground. Turtles were great. It didn't get 5 stars as we were not aware that the bathrooms/showers were closed. Didn't tell us when we checked in. Also said come here for wood and ice and then closed for three days. Rules about bare campsites are not enforced. Coolers and cookware and garbage left our all day and night. Why do you even have rules?
Turk L — Google review
I camped on the Ponderosa loop of this campground and the location was STUNNING. The site I had overlooked the river and provided a great place for an easy nature walk in the morning. I had plenty of space for my vehicle and my small tent, although I think if the campground had been full, I would have felt a little too close to my neighbors. I didn't need any amenities other than the water spigot and vault toilet, which were just a short walk from the site and were clean and well-maintained. There was adequate signage in and around the park so I knew how to get there from the highway (I had no cell reception in Canada to check Google Maps!) Making a reservation was easy on the BC Parks website, and very affordable. Would stay here again!

We like this one campground. We visit this park every year at summer. The lakes are warm and clean.
Family B — Google review
We re there a few days ago. It's a beautiful and peaceful place to relax, but the manager was a bit strange and controlling. She kept telling us what we could and couldn't do, instead of just letting us enjoy the place. It seemed like it was more for older people who just want to read books and spy on each other. They have a big volleyball court, but you can't play after 6 pm because it's too loud. And they have a rule against drinking alcohol, but the guy who drives around and checks on everything was drinking in his car. I'm pretty easygoing, but this place is not for people in their 30s. It's like they want you to shut up, close your eyes, and just sit in your tent. No thanks! I'm not ready to spend my retirement years like that. Sorry, BC, but your management needs some work.
John S — Google review
Family oriented campground with access to lake and beach. Lots of mature trees for shade but few shrubs, so privacy is somewhat lacking. Well maintained roadways and pads in variety of sizes, suitable for small vehicles and tents as well as larger trailers. Despite the bustle of activity during the day (including kids racing around on bikes and parents pushing baby strollers) it quiets down nicely at night for a peaceful sleep. A certain amount of sites are reservable with a some first come first serve available. Wheelchair accessible pit toilets, but no sink. Running water available from pipes near garbage and recycling bins. Overall a good place if you're looking for more of a family/friend outdoor experience, but don't expect anything close to remote wilderness. Dogs are fine at campground (on leash) but are not allowed on beach.
Sophie V — Google review
Amazing campground with showers and an updated playground. There are lots of fish in the lake, and if you are lucky enough, you can spot a turtle.
Varya N — Google review
More than just the lakes! Perhaps most people visit this park either to lounge on the beach and in the water of Surveyors Lake or to boat in Koocanusa Lake but it's much more than that. The park has three general use campgrounds, one group site and a day use area, all connected by a series of trails suitable for walking and cycling. The trails lead through grassland and open forest (see the signs about the forest and grassland restoration program) all rich in plants, flowers, birds (including eagles) and other wildlife. The geology is fascinating with moraines, kettle holes and river bed deposits and there is cultural evidence of past railways (see if you can find the lingering marks of the railway ties in places under the current trail bed). All this in a warm, dry climate.

Premier Lake Provincial Park

Park
Nature & Parks
Provincial park
A bit of a rough drive to get in, but a beautiful park awaits you at the end of the dirt road! Great swimming in clear water (some years they have swimmers itch - but not in 2024). Some awesome 1 - 2 hour hikes to various smaller lakes - some with Kokanee fish in them!
Richard K — Google review
Our setup: Frequent tenting family. Two adults, one dog. We enjoy hiking, swimming, lots of trees and reasonable neighbours. The good: The lake itself is lovely. Great temperature for swimming. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. We had to turn back on the Turtle Lake hike because of a thunderstorm, but the scenery that we did see was beautiful. The trail is very quiet, but bear spray is recommended because it is an Alpine hike. The bad: As others have mentioned, the road is gravel and quite the hill down to the campground (this was not an issue as a tenter). 99% of the spots do not offer any privacy. Our spot was probably the only one in the campground that we would have wanted to stay at. Dogs are not allowed on one of the beach areas (and understandably so). The other area they are allowed is taken over by people leaving their boats / paddle boards, so there's not actually anywhere for people with dogs to enjoy the lake. The pit toilets were clean on arrival, but disgusting after 3 days. There is no screen on the windows, so lots of flies. Also the height of the windows means that you get a direct view to anyone going down the road or path or trails. The majority of people were not adhering to the rule that dogs must be kept on leash so there was excessive barking and lunging. This campground seems to be primarily used by trailers. Also people do better. I saw a whole watermelon, an apple, and tons of garbage in the creek.
Ally B — Google review
So beautiful! We went there for a day of fishing and I got to watch them stock the lake with 26,000 trout! They said they were putting in 50,000 this season. Beautiful place, clean, clear water, eagles swooping overhead, fish jumping, perfect place for a day away and out in nature!
Christie S — Google review
Beautiful Lake. An okay campground. If you are camping in RV, make sure you fill your fresh water tank to you needs. Cause it's just the water well with a hand pump on-site. Gravel road which lead to the park is a disaster. Wasn't able to move more than 5 km an hour as it was so bumpy due to the bulldozer tracks, which dried out and created a very bumpy road.
Yura B — Google review
Lots of sites to camp and they have overflow as well. Few mins walk to the lake where you can launch your boat, kayak or canoe. Scenic view of the lake with mountains behind. Toilets are bigger and cleaner than most campgrounds. 2-3 hand-pumps available in the campground but they recommend to boil the water. Easy 3.5km hike to Quartz Lake/ Rockbluff Lake from the campground. You can see beautiful azure water surrounded by mountains from the top.The hosts were very nice and friendly people. The female operator was a bit iffy, made us feel like we didn’t belong there, from the minute we stepped in. Been here twice now, so we just did our thing.Good experience overall!
Saadat R — Google review
A perfectly pleasant provincial park! There's a mixture of sites, with some suited to RVs and others more suitable for tents. The campsites on the north side, closer to the lake, are rather tightly packed and the area more forested, while the ones on the south side are less tight, but with less forest cover. There's a quaint creek flowing between several of the northern sites, with a trail leading to the lake. The Park's lakefront has a boat launch and dock beside the beach; there's also a short shore trail leading to a trout hatchery. The summer water is still very cool, but thoroughly swimable. The campground is also equipped with an excellent playground for kids. Nearby, there's a closet for BYO solar water shower bags. Campsites were $25/night and firewood was $10/bundle. In August-September 2019 there was a bear in the area, and skunks are known to inhabit the area. Lots of chipmunks, squirrels, and chickadees. There's a couple nearby trails to small lakes, the main branch (Turtle, Canuck, and Yankee Lakes) can be done as a loop in 2 to 3 hours.
Jeffrey M — Google review
The park entrance is 15km about 6 miles up in the hills above Hwy 95 in South Eastern BC near Skookumchuck, BC Canada. The road to the park started off as paved, two lane good quality road but about half way up it turned into broken pavement, gravel, and dirt. The campground is located on the hillside above the lake. There is a small parking area near the beach and picnic area but no room for motorhomes or RV’s. There is parking for truck and boat trailer at the boat launch and a nice long dock enclosing the swimming area on this beautiful lake. The boat launch is paved and in good repair. Stair cases to the beach making it not fully accessible or wheel chair accessible. Nice playground in campground and nice trails with bridges crossing a small creek. All sites are unserviced and mostly level. Some sites offer privacy and shade but others are very close together with no privacy or shade. Water pump with untreated water that is not safe for drinking unless boiled. No showers, no drinking water, no sani-dump. I do not advise an extended stay as it is a long drive to get water and empty tanks.
Michelle N — Google review
Nice quiet place like to take the kids to swim. Water is cool and clear but not too cold. Small beach area that's usually not crowded. There is a dock completely surrounding the swimming area that protects from the boats. Water is 10 to 12 feet deep by the dock.

Fort Steele Heritage Town

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Fort Steele Heritage Town is a restored 19th-century frontier boomtown that was once a ghost town. Now, it's a provincial heritage site with historic structures and daily activities featuring living-history actors, offering visitors an authentic experience of the Old West. The town boasts an impressive Ktunaxa Indigenous beading collection in its museum and provides opportunities for gold panning and animal encounters. Visitors appreciate the accurate furnishing of buildings and consider it a great value for the entry fee.
We had a wonderful time at Fort Steele Heritage Town! It's a fantastic place for families—our kids had a blast and learned so much about local history in a hands-on way. One of the highlights was gold panning—they loved the thrill of finding real flakes! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the whole site is beautifully maintained. Highly recommend this experience if you're in the area!
Andrian F — Google review
This was a great day. We chose Fort Steele because it was something different from the other sightseeing we had been doing and was closer to where we were staying. It was great. A great place to go and see how things used to be and why the area was settled and how they survived. There are tours available. We did the archive one which took us to their storage area (1 of many) to see everything that is donated, cataloged and then used in the displays. They have a schoolhouse, with teacher, newspaper/print office with printer and working press, bakery with delicious cookies, a few churches, pharmacy, dentist office etc. There are cast members walking around. It was not busy. Highly recommend this.
Shelley S — Google review
This place is BIG! There's lots to see, so give yourself plenty of time to do it in. The staff were very friendly, especially in the seamstress and gold panning sections! We had great conversations with the gentlemen at the gold panning station, and one of them even followed us with some gold we'd missed in our pan! Excellent experience!
Dani S — Google review
Absolutely loved it! We took a guided tour and the two guides were dressed in period clothing. They knew their subject matter and gave indepth descriptions of life in the Fort and surrounding area. Overall this was a great choice!
Scott C — Google review
Really great displays of a heritage town, pack a lunch/snack and spend the day walking around in and out of all the buildings, lots of information on everything there. Take good walking shoes. There's a horse drawn carriage if you want to see the sights on a tour. Worth spending the day exploring
Josh H — Google review
A step back in time. The town is a great historical site with lots of information for people to read learn and enjoy. The Clydesdales were beautiful. The theatre was a step back to your childhood showing old films like the three stooges. The schoolmistress was charming and very friendly and took her role to heart.
Lee J — Google review
Had a nice time with the family here. There was a lot more to see here than we expected. Our favorite things to see were the demonstration of making haybails, the tinshop, waterworks building, and snacks at the International Hotel. It was fun that all the employees there stay in character and are excited to chat. We didn't give ourselves enough time here, we didn't give ourselves enough time to see everything, it's definitely an all day event.
Tiffany E — Google review
We got here on a Sunday afternoon a few hours before closing so some building where closed, but still a lot to see and do. Tried panning for Gold only found some pyrite but it was an experience. The staff all wear costume period clothing and play their roll, from school teacher to tanner, to gold panner. Great place to stop and visit, the train was being repaired so not able to ride that but the horse drawn cart was running and a cowboy walking the boardwalk.

Placid rooms in restored mission offering mountain views & free WiFi, plus a golf & casino complex.
Went to the casino for some dinner at Mum's and had a great time. The place is obviously full of people but all seem to know was beautiful dinner was coming to them. Our server Aleitha (sorry if spelled wrong) was lovely and made plenty of visiting recommendations. I recommend the calamari appetizer and the maple glazed chicken. Bon appétit!!! Came back the next day and the striploin and wings. I had a great meal again. Great place to indulge. Big shout-out to the chef Aaron Day

Jurassic Mike sang some great tunes at the casino Saturday night, but the fact they were extremely understaffed in the dining area where he was singing put a damper on the evening. The poor man and lady that were trying their best to serve everyone were simply ran off their feet and couldn’t come close to serving everyone properly, even though they kept a great attitude all night and were obviously working their hardest. C’mon St. Eugene Casino- you can do better!! And by the way, your cabernet on your menu is awful!!
Dwight H — Google review
A friend and I thought it would be a great evening to play a few slots and have dinner out. We decided to get fish and chips. When we received our order the fish was burnt a bit and had maybe 15 fries and the coleslaw was horrific. It was soggy and had no flavour what so ever . I litterly spit it out. I asked for gravy and the waitress kept on pointing to my dish and I asked again where the gravy and she again pointed to my dish.. the whole dinner was horrible .. what happens to the old menu that had pizza and we could choose fries and actual gravy. Not some broth that was cornstarched? If this is how they start presenting their food in a well established casino they should get Gordon Ramsay as this was unacceptable paying crazy amounts of money to eat horrible food . The waitress thought it was funny and asked if I wanted a new, fish. I said I’m thinking not.. I was starving so I left the gravy and the coleslaw and ate what I could if the fish and the measly 15 fries .. this was June 13 2025 ..

When we got there, we were looking forward to a nice hot tub. After a great day of golf. We found the Jets to the hot tub lacking. One of the hot tubs was warm, while the other was adequate. As we left for the hot tub, there were girls talking in the hallway. We mentioned this to the front desk, and they said they would take care of that. When we came back from the hot tub, they were still there. After listening to them for 2 hours, we phoned down to the front desk again. They dispersed after being told do so. Even though I'm sure they're nice individuals, they were loud, and we were tired. Other than that, the beds were comfy, but there was an old muffin wrapper underneath my husband's bed. The rest seemed to be clean, but I couldn't really tell. The price was okay, but I'm afraid I won't be going back here.
Kathy M — Google review
Complete disappointment , I took my wife for the prime rib dinner on mothers day , we were served a 6oz steak , the kind with the pregrilled marks on them . When ordering the waiter asked how we'd like it done , we said med rare and an end cut if possible. When the waiter came back , he asked how the steak was , I said we ordered prime rib , he replied that's how we serve our prime rib and walked away. Just wrong on all aspects. If I wanted steak , I would have ordered steak. It appears obvious that the management has instructed the staff not to let people know they don't serve prime rib but steak , as we ordered endcuts only available on a roast , and we're not told differently.

This casino is like being in jail, let me explain ! First things first the minute you walk in they SCAN your identification into their data bank so they know all your personal information. Secondly all table games have been removed so they can maximize profits, no fun interactions with dealer or other players any more. This visit security followed my son into the washroom and than monitored him playing slots, what did they think he was doing drugs in the washroom? Food service is not so great and expensive. If you want fun and loose slots I recommend crossing the boarder into Idaho and playing at the casino in Bonners ferry, the food , atmosphere and free hotel nights for gamblers will keep you going!
Dr W — Google review
I went there for the first time, (it was my first time gambling) and they were so nice, they talked to me about the cell phone policies (no phones allowed) instead of kicking me out, haha. But the casino was nice! The slot machines were a terrible design though.
Shevy B — Google review
Gone downhill big time. The slots are definitely tightened. Use to be way better more fun atmosphere before the renovations. The slots are so tight every time I go I get nothing. Easily can play thousands with next to no returns. Very bad returns. Miss the old days was way better before.

The Cranbrook History Centre is a must-visit destination for those interested in Canadian Pacific railway history and local heritage. The museum houses exhibits and archives that showcase the region's rich history, along with a gift shop. The highlight of the museum is the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel, featuring several iconic trains from Canada's past, including the Trans-Canada Limited from 1929.
Fun tourist activity that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. And quite educative too! If you're into trains, you'll love this place. There's also a train model set with tracks that can be activated. Really cool!

As a huge fan of Anomalocaris seeing an actual fossil of it on display was incredible! They recently started carrying FromTheShalePlushies Anomalocaris canadensis Carri in their gift shop too! There is a new addition to their fossil gallery room showing an entire reconstructed environment of the lower Cambrian Eager Formation by the talented Paleozoic Paleoartist Saureal! They also have a ton of Triassic fish fossils, Devonian reef shells and coral as well as dinosaur footprints on display! This museum is so awesome for Cambrian and Anomalocaris fans! Can’t wait to visit again!

What a great place. Book the tour of one of the trains! Our tour guide was knowledgeable, fun, friendly, and had a lovely sense of humor. We also really enjoyed the model train exhibit. So detailed!

Hidden gem museum for lovers of paleontology! The Cranbrook History Centre has Carri the Anomalocaris by From The Shale Plushies for sale in their gift shop and a fossil of Anomalocaris on display in their gallery alongside other local Cambrian explosion aged creatures! Highly recommend visiting, it is well worth the stop!

If you or your kids love trains or are interested in the history of trains in Canada this is the place for you! The staff was so friendly and welcoming. We did all three train tours and I can't say enough good things about them. The restored train cars were so interesting but the best part is the tour guides! The guide was so informative and could answer all the questions my 7 yr old son who loves trains could think of. I really enjoyed the history as well as learning about the process of restoration. The gift shop could be better but it was still pretty good. They have a huge model train set that my son loved, I think we spent at least 30-40 minutes there. The museum is in a very interesting building with some nice displays. We had a fantastic time and I recommend all the tours!

Moyie Lake Provincial Park in Kootenay Rockies is a perfect summer destination for families. The campsite offers both reservable and first-come, first-served sites with various amenities including an adventure playground, a 1,300 m sandy beach with shallow swimming areas, boat launch, and picnic spots. Nature trails provide opportunities for wildlife and bird viewing while the lake is ideal for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and windsurfing.
Moyie Lake is a peaceful gem with clean campgrounds, a beautiful cove, and scenic views all around. The water is clear, perfect for a swim or paddle, and the whole area feels calm and inviting. Also a great place to stop and unwind.
Sumit B — Google review
Great campground! We loved the playground and little bike course for kids. Also, the roads are paved so biking around was fun for the littles. Plenty of trails to explore on bikes as well. The beach is lovely and great for building sandcastles. Several picnic tables and clean washrooms. The little ice cream shop was lovely. Firewood $12 per bundle, not sure how I feel about that since the wood cracked a lot and sent embers everywhere. We will definitely come back here.

We are in #14 fcfs. Beautiful site close to showers , garbage, water, and washrooms. No one behind us or on our right side. Nice amount of sun and shade. The only complaint is the road is also public access to the boat launch so is a bit busy and some people drive a bit too fast.

Embark on a captivating journey through history with the Kimberley Underground Mining Railway, a unique attraction that offers an authentic glimpse into the region's mining heritage. As you ride along the narrow valley of Mark Creek, prepare for an exhilarating experience filled with steep slopes and sharp curves.
A Memorable Experience for the Whole Family! We had an amazing time riding the Kimberley Underground Mining Railway! The tour was not only informative but also incredibly meaningful—especially for my dad, who spent his career as an underground coal miner. He got such a kick out of the stories, equipment, and historical details shared along the way. The entire experience was well-paced and engaging, with beautiful views and fascinating history woven throughout. It’s a fantastic way to spend the day, learn something new, and appreciate the legacy of mining in the area. Highly recommend for families, history buffs, and anyone looking for something truly unique in Kimberley!
Jacci G — Google review
What a wonderful tour. We learned so much about the Sullivan mine and how getting the ore out the ground changed over the years. Our amazing tour guide in the mine was Dale. He is a third generation miner. His hands-on knowledge, experiences and passion for mining were the highlights of the tour. After the tour in the mine and the powerhouse, we toured the original school house built in 1890, I believe, as well as a replica of a miner's home from the early 1900s. And to the ladies working in the station store, thank you for suggesting to wear a jacket/sweater/sweatshirt; much appreciated.

Such an enjoyable morning with our family as we did the train ride. The desk staff ladies were very friendly and helpful. It wasn’t an ‘inexpensive’ family outing, $90 for 4 adults, 2 children and a baby. But the children thoroughly enjoyed the train ride through the trees and a couple of exciting tunnels as well. Jack, the young man who was our tour guide was very knowledgable and gave some really interesting information on the history of the mine. It is a worthwhile stop for some fun and wholesome family entertainment (with some great historical knowledge thrown in for good luck!) We took the one hour tour and with children, it was the perfect length of time. Free, accessible parking, which was plentiful.
Lorie R — Google review
Really good display on how underground mining operations are carried out in a professional manner, the guides are all retired miners and are passionate about explaining and sharing their experiences. A fun little train ride in and around, very minimal walking to see the whole setup
Josh H — Google review
We have an amazing tour at this mine, you start the tour on a train, the same train they used to transport the miner's, once in the mine you get a close-up demonstration of how the mine workes by one of the original miners, he demonstrated some of the equipment so you saw and heard how hard the work was, after the mine you get to see the power house, this was where the air that powered all the equipment was made. Just a great tour and highly recommend it.
Allan C — Google review
Such a great tour! We learned alot from Gord, a man who worked in the mine during the production years. He's so knowledgeable and charismatic. Both my wife and my 16 year old were rolling their eyes before the tour started, but once the train came to pick us up they were so excited. In fact my 16 year old asked a pile of questions after the tour because he was so interested in everything. Bring the family!

Really interesting tour - Dale the guide was so enthusiastic about the mine & relayed his experiences so well.

Great experience - it was nice and informative, and the staff are phenomenal! If you're wanting to go on the 1-hour tour (best suited for those with small children), know that it only runs once a day at 10 am and gets full quickly. I recommend being there right at 9:30 am when they open to ensure you get a spot. You cannot buy tickets ahead of time - you can purchase on the day of.

Nestled in the Purcell Mountains, Kimberley Alpine Resort is a renowned destination for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. Boasting 1,800 acres of terrain with 80 ski runs, the resort offers activities such as dogsledding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Visitors can also enjoy skating, night skiing, and cozy bonfires at the base of the ski hill. The resort's village provides convenient access to Kelsey's Bar & Grill for dining options.
Took my kids skiing for the first time today. They all had an excellent time and so did I. My only “complaint” is that I was not able to buy a beer for the staff who gave my youngest a ride down the mountain when she was ready to be done. Big THANK YOU. Looking forward to coming back in the future.

Great hill for skiing. Lots of runs. Good elevation. Very helpful staff. I was impressed.

Love the spring skiing here! Always so nice! Loads of different trails of difficulty.
Milla W — Google review
Just returned to Kimberly after a ski trip in Fernie and the difference between the two locations is great. OK on the third day in Fernie we had a dump of snow and it was good powder, and amazing. Hard to beat. Nevertheless, Fernie was much better prepared on the runs. And the variety of lower runs in Blue and Green allows for a fun day. While Kimberly has the long North Star quad chair lift, and the blues and a few greens are long and converge on the bridge to the start of the lift. So a real bottleneck. And after the bridge to run down to the lift is not green.. Once up the North Star you can move over to the backside, but they are not always well groomed runs. In fact I was on Vimy Ridge and the run surveyor was having a real argument on the phone with the director about opening runs. It would also be nice if somebody took a brush cutter to the pines growing on the runs. The RCR staff at the locations seem to come from different planets, the Fernie staff are great friendly and helpful. And the ski patrol is on the ball. You can't say that of Kimberly at all. Except being for the cafe staff they are friendly..
Keith B — Google review
Great ski hill for beginner to intermediate skiers. If you’re looking for something a bit more interesting try going to the far north side and jumping in beyond the patrol lines. We found some fun fresh snow in there !
Samuel L — Google review
Great hill, even better when it gets dumps of snow. The hill has a good variety of different runs with varying skill levels. The hill is well maintained with the green runs groomed while most blues and blacks aren't.
Eric S — Google review
Awesome family ski resort with excellent runs for all levels, and fun stuff for little skiers to build their confidence and skills on. Stay on the resort if you can, so much easier to ski-in, ski-out for lunch and breaks, and after the kids are done you drop them back at your suite and do a couple Mom & dad power runs to round out your day!
David B — Google review
I've skied here my whole life, I love this family friendly hill. Its a hidden gem with great snow, friendly staff and short lines. This was my 1st time taking my 6yr old daughter here. Sophie (or Sophia maybe?) was working the top of the magic carpet ride and was such a ray of sunshine! Wearing an elf hat, smiling, singing and chatting with everyone. She even encouraged my daughter when attempting the pilons. When she went on lunch break my daughter even asked when she'd be back. She really made the day special for us, and deserves recognition.

Laid-back riverfront hotel offering a casino & a spa, as well as an indoor pool & a restaurant/bar.
The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff is friendly and customer oriented. The dining experience was made delightful by Cherokee and Barbara. They were attentive and a pleasure to have as servers. Folks like them are why I keep coming back to this hotel.

Today I stopped by the front desk about 230 pm to modify a reservation I had for the weekend. My wife and I are celebrating our anniversary there this weekend. She was so polite and helpful. She's a real asset to the Casino and I'll come back because of her caring attitude. I really appreciated that. Thank you again.

Every now and again we are lucky to find a diamond in the rough on our motorcycle trips and we sure found one here with the Best Western Plus in Kootenai River Inn. We were greeted by Julie at the front desk and she put in motion the foundation of a great stay and experience. Our dining experience was great with good food and our server Heather was exceptional. Overall....fantastic.

Please for the love of god do not put regular non dog owners in a pet friendly room. Room 111 on the main floor smells of dog piss. Even worse is the combination of carpet deodorizer, cold air conditioning and dog piss - gross. Not to be nasty but the whole lower floor smells of dog piss, there are too many old seniors that leave there dogs in the room to pee. On a positive note, the House keeping staff needs to get a raise, other than the dog piss smell everywhere on the main floor your staff keep the property very clean. Everything from the bathrooms, linens, beds, walls, and pool and outdoors is great.

We've been on a camping 🏕 vacation for a few days. After numerous looks of annoyance from my wife. I called to check on a room for the night. Connor was quick to answer my questions about amenities, food, pool, breakfast availability etc. I told him I would call back. Maria answered this time & took my info with swift efficiency. Upon checking In Heidi multitasking checked us in & gave us the rundown. We ate at the in house Spring restaurant. Our server had curly hair and glasses & was phenomenal givin the friday night rush. We cleaned off the camp fire & headed to the Casino to make our donation to the county 😆. Stephanie & Anna at the Casino bar were attentive & kept us drinking & gambling. Jeremy stood out to us as being on the ball with clean ash trays & removed empty glasses. We're from Bismarck ND & this was our 1st time. We will definitely be back for the service & the views.

Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge

Wildlife refuge

Nature & Wildlife Areas
A beautiful refuge in a gorgeous part of the country. I took the trail up to Myrtle Falls. The falls themselves are a bit hard to see due to trees but it was a pleasant short hike. The auto loop has a very well maintained road with a few wide spots. In all honesty the best time to visit isn't middle of the summer as there was virtually no waterfowl to be seen. My next visit will be for the fall bird migration when birds should be plentiful. All in all I had a nice visit.
Tim F — Google review
Nice park but don't come here to go fishing all the river and ponds but you can't fish in them. You can only fish in a creek that the water is moving 100 mph and it's only 5 feet wide. They wouldn't want us to have a good chance of catching fish. The dem tree huggers run these parks so what do you expect.
John L — Google review
Beautiful nature preserve with well maintained hiking/walking paths. If you're lucky, you may see moose or deer. We saw hawks, a bald ealge, and a variety of geese and ducks. It's a very nice hike up to Myrtle Falls. Easy enough for the whole family, and the views are worth it.
Heather M — Google review
A lot of fun. Short uphill hike to the falls. On auto tour saw deer, various birds, turtles. And this was in early afternoon. Bring binoculars.
Robert C — Google review
Very beautiful place. It has a mix of mountains, rivers/creeks and valley plains. The main attraction seems to be the trail to Myrtle Falls, but there is more to it than that.
J T — Google review
Very beautiful area though not much to see at the reserve itself. Some interesting wildlife, such as beavers and deer, and a good variety of birds, osprey, bald eagles, peregrine falcon, pheasants, and many more Canadian geese than can be counted. Can recommend Myrtle Falls trail and the Kootenay River running nearby. The nearby river also has a great place to camp for free. Highly recommended.
Arnon C — Google review
Lovely one way drive through the refuge. Best in spring but still dramatic scenery in summer
Jean H — Google review
We enjoyed walking the auto path and the short hike to the falls. We went in late May and only saw a few whitetail deer, swans, ducks and turtles. However, it was a great flat walk and beautiful scenery.

Amazing atmosphere and wine. Great way to buy local Canadian products. Staff were amazing. Shout out to our server Lorna who was such a friendly and amazing person explaining the wines beautiful areas of Creston in detail. Keep up the good work.

Was a very cold feeling walking into the tasting room. Donna, the taster lady, was just going through the motions and explaining the wines like she was reading it from a sheet. 4 wines, 5 minutes tops. Felt unwanted and rushed. Bought 1 wine as it was good, but the staff are not personable. I suggest if you like the wines just buy them and skip the interaction with the winery.

Skimmerhorn Winery in Creston is a fantastic destination for wine enthusiasts! The wine tasting experience was exceptional, offering a superb selection of wines that were truly enjoyable. The scenery from the patio is absolutely stunning, with beautiful views overlooking the valley and vineyards that create a serene and picturesque atmosphere.

I love coming here every year when I visit my parents. The scenery is beautiful and I find this place to be very relaxing. I wish sangria was always on offer though and I miss when they used to have the full bistro for lunch. I think the wine tasting used to be free, but if I’m not mistaken I think they charge now for tastings.

What a lovely place to visit in Creston! We were fortunate to have a sunny day so we could sit on the patio and enjoy a fall day. The view from the patio is lovely with rolling hills stretching south to the border and the fall colours just starting. We had a wine tasting one afternoon and came back the next day for lunch. Lunch is tapas style with several very tasty small plates. The menu was farm to table so you could experience what the surrounding farms could offer. White wines were very nice, no red wines available when we visited. Definitely a place to return to on our next visit.

I bought a six pack of kokanee cans at maverik in Mead Washington last night. I have a sensitivity to soaps and detergents and there was way too much soaps and or detergents in that beer!!! Now Im suffering the consequences. Please have your staff and crew rinse and scrub away the soaps you use much more thoroughly!! There shouldnt be any soap in beer!! Do your employees know the difference between concentrate soaps and non concentrate??? I can tell you it was the most rediculous amount of soaps/detergents ive ever consumed in beers. Get it together people!!!!

Nestled between Creston and Crawford Bay, The Glass House is a captivating destination that promises an unforgettable experience. This remarkable structure, crafted from over half a million embalming fluid bottles by David H. Brown in the 1950s, showcases both creativity and history. Visitors are treated to stunning views of Kootenay Lake from various vantage points, making it a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts. Families will find joy exploring this unique site, while adults can appreciate the artistry involved in its creation.
This is a unique and interesting house located between Creston and Crawford Bay on the stunning and pristine Kootenay Lake. The house was built by David H. Brown, an undertaker in the 1950s when he came up with a clever way of using the embalming fluid bottles. The house and other structures were built from over half a million embalming bottles. There's many vantage points with spectacular views of Kootenay Lake and the drop-dead gorgeous scenery. The first trip I ever made to this house and stunning Lake I was 13 and can remember thinking how cool it would be to live in. It's worth the stop to take a peek inside and around the grounds. Very interesting stop along the way, a must stop destination. Well worth the meager price of admission. Talk about 'recycling' at its finest. There are a few stairs, the pathway is very easy.

Kootenay Lake, situated amidst the Selkirk Mountains, is a large lake with beaches and parks surrounding it. It has year-round ferry service and boasts of a unique floating stage for music festivals. The lake is clean and has multiple bays, but could benefit from additional on-lake fueling stations. The area also holds historical significance due to closed mining and timber operations.
This is one drop-dead gorgeous lake in British Columbia, Canada. I was 13 the first time I had the privilege of visiting this inspirational lake and the forests that surround it. The people have always been inviting. If it was a place that I called home, I'd want to keep it a secret. Word of mouth travels fast, but the internet blows it out of the water. It will forever be changed, now that its secrets have escaped our grasp! This is a place that was created by Mother Nature and shaped by Father Time. It is truly stunning when seen in person. Pictures don't give you the jaw-dropping moments that you will experience.😲 It is a bucket list worthy destination and something that I can only describe as an all sensory experience!🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁 The lake is about 65 miles long, and about 3 miles at its widest and is approximately 490 ft deep. The water is very cold, and if it's not a HOT (can't emphasize the word hot enough. Lol) summer day, it can take your breath away. I've seen all kinds of boats on this lake, but on windy days, it tends to draw sail boats. They've got plenty of room to navigate. There's trails, numerous beaches, and plenty to see while you're here. There's also a ferry crossing on the northern end of the lake, taking you from the eastern shore of the lake to the western edge. While you're here, stop and see The Glass House. It was made from embalming bottles and has amazing views of the lake and surrounding mountains. As always, leave no trace (please), leave it better than you found it (please), and enjoy 😉, please!

Fantastic lake, clean, great beaches and fabulous bays. It would benefit from at least two additional on-lake fueling stations for power craft. Lots of history dots the shorelines from closed mining and timber operations.

AMAZING! This lake is HUGE and provides great fishing (if you are lucky) great water sports and often calm waters. Great place to leave your worries behind for a week or two. Clean great water, surrounded by mountains, great private camping spots if you hike in or have a boat. Stop at Creston for fresh fruit in the summer.

Kokanee Creek Provincial Park, located in Nelson, Canada, is a natural park known for its mountainous terrain and sandy beach. The park offers easy walks and is particularly famous for salmon spawning during late summer. Visitors can access the Keyhole trailhead via a logging road near the Kokanee Creek campground to reach the Kokanee glacier. Osprey campsite within the park is supervised and well-maintained with free hot showers available at the main campsite.
one of the best campsites ive ever stayed at, densely wooded for privacy with paved, well maintained roads. restrooms are plentiful with grey water disposal drains directly outside. the beach is covered in soft sand and you can wade out quite far before it gets too deep. perfect for kids to play.

Honestly this is probably the best park in the BC park system in some categories. Great staff, cleanest male washrooms I have ever seen in a park outside Japan. You can go to a sandy beach, go for a walk in the forest, or walk along the beach on a nice grassy trail. Beautiful rivers feed that lake. They have a world class nature centre that sells fresh incredible coffee in the morning and also fresh pastries! It also has good showers, you can rent canoes and water equipment. Separate space for dogs and kids (if you are lucky with your bookings). It is just a really beautiful and well run park. Do not miss this gem

We were just there for picnic. It had everything we needed, including a place to wash dishes. Beach was big and clean. Change rooms and showers. We were there at the end of the season, and mid week. It was quite and beautiful.

The nicest campground we've ever been to. Beautiful area. The sandpit campground have the best sites. They are well shaded and spaced well. The staff are kind and there to answer questions but not all up in your business. Nice bathrooms and showers that are well kept and cleaned daily. The beautiful beach is big enough to accommodate a full campground as well as day users without feeling over crowded. We were too early ( late July) to see kokanee spawning but we did have a cute young black bear scoot through our site without disturbing anything. We'll definitely be back

Such a wonderful campground with great amenities. They have hot showers and flush toilets in clean buildings throughout the campgrounds. They have a wonderful education centre that has a ton of information on the local flora and fauna, theirs bear skins and skulls and a full library and knowledge to be pursued at your leisure. The staff at the campground is awesome, so nice, knowledgeable and accommodating. The beaches are only a short walk from the campsites and surprisedly big with beautiful sand, as well as very well maintained. I don’t think I saw a single piece of trash there. The beach is very shallow as there is a sand bar that runs the entire length of the beach. Great for paddle boarding in the morning or evening, as the afternoon can get really windy. I highly recommend staying here if you have a family.
Explorer W — Google review
Staff are super friendly! Definitely a family spot for camping. Wear ear plugs to bed or prepare to wake up at 7:30am to a badminton tournament on your street LOL The kids are up early. We could only rent canoes (June 1st visit) so that sucked. We really wanted to use paddle boards but they weren’t renting them due to water level and temperature. The firewood they sell is the best price you’ll find anywhere and the city of Nelson is close which was a big help with supplies/food etc. ALL the trails are walking only, no cycling. They are a pet friendly location but the pet beach is separate and very small. The nature centre has coffee which is pretty good but the showers are weird. The ones in the campground area are push button and need pushing every 30 seconds. If you go to the beach, those showers are better! They’re a regular shower. Would go back but better prepared.

Whitewater Ski Resort, nestled 25 minutes from Nelson, British Columbia, is a haven for powder enthusiasts. With an average of 40 feet of snowfall each season and minimal crowds, it offers ample opportunities to carve fresh tracks on its expansive 2,367-acre terrain. The resort boasts 81 runs and four lifts along with 3.5 miles of groomed multi-use tracks for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking.
Went up to use the Nordic trails for snowshoeing and was greeted by a fantastic Aussie worker at guest services in the Hummingbird Lodge who explained the routes to us, helped us with the waiver and sent us happily on our way. The trails were beautifully groomed and we managed to find some nice areas off the mains as well. Amazing scenery and an easy drive up from Nelson. Will definitely visit again 👍

Best ski hill around! 20 minutes from Nelson with friendly staff and amazing terrain! No data/WiFi which is nice, like the good ol days! There is a small/medium sized lodge and other food huts around, on a busy day it can get packed in the lodge and you might have to share a table. There are 4 lifts to access 3 different mountain sides/peaks, no gondolas!

Had a great time at Whitewater. Good snow, happy staff, decent food, decent prices. Close to Nelson, and lots of parking available along the freshly-paved access road. It's time to expand the capacity of the chalet though.

Great variety in terrain, love that there’s no mess of ski-in/out cat tracks at the village / base. No criss-cross traffic, easy access to all lifts from chalet. Cool resort I’ll be back

First time to Whitewater was during a boys trip. Not only was Nelson, BC an amazing town filled with great foods, drinks, and snow shops to enjoy when not riding. The people we met were also the nicest people and great suggestions for riding and what places to go in town. On the mountain was no different, the staff was awesome and so helpful. The food was some of the best I have had anywhere, and this was on top a mountain! I recently saw that they are selling trail map blankets, with no way to order online I sent an email. I was greeted by Tessa, she explained that I could purchase at their downtown office or on the mountain when they opened. I did not include my location in my email. Once I explained that she got me in contact with Joesph Johns who was great and let me know he could ship them to me buy paying over the phone. I paid for them today and he even gave me a discount since I was buying 4 so I could give them to my friends for Xmas. All and all you cannot go wrong with Whitewater and the staff who make it all happen! Thank you to the staff and hope to see you this year, let it snow!!!

We had a blast. It was so much fun. I'm not sure on the price, it was a surprise from my daughter. They're done now until spring. We're going back. It's four people to a car. Lots of peddling.

I did the Pend O'Reille Train Rides twice (once inside and once outside) and my last train ride in October was special, since I got to ride on the outside. I also shot this photo of Box Canyon Dam from the railroad track. You won't be able to get this outstanding view anymore, since the train rides ended in late October. Thanks for the memories.

A beautiful place to walk around The house closes at 5pm but you can walk around the park till 10pm.park is connnected via suspension bridge .its a good walk.when you reach there ,there are chances of missing the entrance/parking P.S - island is not all related to Mark zuckerberg😬😬😬

Cool heritage site. Nice little walk. Fun to check out on our way thru.
Vanessa D — Google review
I am so drawn to this place, I come for a walk around this Island a lot. As you can tell I am very connected to this place and have taken a lot of beautiful pictures of this place. It is a must to come and visit when your in the area and get a really look at what Castlegar has to offer.. So beautiful in the summer time when all of the flowers are bloomed. And don’t forget to check out their historic 1918 year old school.!
Jerilee • — Google review
Beautiful location, great short walk around the island with many lookout spots and picnic areas. The old house itself is gorgeous historical building with pretty surrounding area. Although the cable bridge is closed in the off-season, there is very easy access through a large dyke walkway. Highly recommended to burn off some energy. Plenty of dog off leash areas as well. Two thumbs up.
Craig — Google review
I might go again for the view on the Northeast side of the island. Otherwise, not as fun as I thought it might be. The museum was closed, it was about 11 am on a Sunday. The bridge was closed for repairs, but it was easy to take an alternate route next to it to get into the island. Not hard to get to from town. But a little underwhelming for my family, except for a few nice views.
Elizabeth C — Google review
Zuckerberg Island is a beautiful, peaceful, serene gem in the heart of downtown Castlegar. Take your time and explore the many paths, and be sure to check out the chapel, cemetery and "stump lady". The island is accessible either by suspension bridge, or by a foot path - which is typically open as long as the water level is low (which it usually is these days). This park holds special memories for me as it is where my husband & I were wed. It's as beautiful now as it was then, if not moreso.
Nicole S — Google review
Unique park that is well worth a visit. Nice 30min walk with the preserved homestead home to admire from the outside. Suspention bridge is closed during winter, but island is still accessible by a causeway

A must see in castlegar bc. Uniquely situated on a small island on the COLUMBIA RIVER. Offers lots of history & beauty of the island including Zuckerberg's home there. Accessible by a long suspension bridge which offers a great view of the area.not to missed including the Millennium Park just down trail from the bridge.

July 16, 2024: Castlegar was a pleasant surprise!!! Something for everyone to enjoy here. Although it was extremely hot I managed to see many pieces and will return!

The sculptures are amazing but a little difficult to follow the path per say. You're better off just wandering around Castlegar to find them.
Brittany M — Google review
If you're in the area, make it a part of your day to enjoy the walk and check out all these large and very creatively crafted sculptures. They are excellent and many times quite whimsical. Hats off to all the artists! The family will love these and want to be in a picture with several. No cost and there's a map and info available.

This was a hit on our day in castlegar. The art is gorgeous and it was a good chance for our 5yr old to practice being the leader and reading a map. She loves that we got to vote on our favourite. We enjoyed wandering and finding some local shops on our way too. We’ll stop for this sculpture walk again another year. It was fun to see pieces in other towns we travelled past later!

RED Mountain Resort

RED Mountain Resort, located in Rossland, British Columbia, is a popular destination for skiers and families seeking an unforgettable winter experience. With 4,200 acres of pristine skiing terrain and over 2,919 feet of vertical drop, it offers a wide variety of runs catering to all skill levels. The resort also features in-bounds cat-skiing at an affordable price and boasts some of the best tree runs in North America.
Some of the best snow I have experienced. Powder at its beat! The mountain has lots of variety. Tons of glades and terrain for experienced skiers. Loved it! The atmosphere is also very laid back and the staff and the resort has a very friendly attitude. You don't feel they are after you at every moment to ding you like other ski resorts, such as Whistler for instance!
Calin S — Google review
Honestly my favorite ski resort experience I've ever had. The snow is absolutely fantastic and there is so much skiable terrain. The best part about RED though is the minimal amount of people. Throughout my entire 1 week stay there were almost no lines at any of the lifts.
Hugo R — Google review
I visited in the early fall and the colours were spectacular. This mountain is developing in a well planned manner. There’s some beautiful homes and condominiums.
D G — Google review
Great place for the purists. Great variety of runs, intermediate to expert. Particularly wonderful are the glades and trees off Granite Mountain. Rossland isn't the most vibrant ski town. Condos available at the base. I've skied over 50 different areas. Red is in my top 5.
Doug B — Google review
Alright, listen up, snow bunnies and daredevils alike. I just returned from a "relaxing" ski trip to Red Mountain, and let's just say my definition of "relaxing" has been permanently altered. **Pros:** No crowds, just pure, unadulterated terror:** Forget lift lines, you'll be too busy questioning your sanity to notice. Leg day? More like leg decade. Prepare for the quad-burning workout of your life. Every run is a masterclass in endurance... and survival. Views that'll make you forget you're about to plummet: The scenery is stunning, assuming you can keep your eyes open while navigating a minefield of moguls and cliffs. Authentic "old school" experience:By "old school" I mean "they haven't touched this place since the 1970s, and honestly, I'm not sure they should." Unparalleled bragging rights: "Yeah, I skied Red Mountain." Watch as your friends' jaws collectively hit the floor. **Cons:** The "easy" runs are basically black diamonds in disguise: I suspect they use a different grading system, perhaps one based on how likely you are to encounter a bear. "Grooming" is a loose term: I think they just send a herd of particularly aggressive snowshoe hares out there. The lodge is charmingly rustic... if rustic means "held together by duct tape and the sheer will of the bartender": The food is hearty, and you'll need the calories to keep from shivering. "Wildlife encounters:** I saw a moose that looked like it was judging my skiing ability. It was right. My ski instructor was a local who just shouted "SEND IT!" and pointed down the mountain: Helpful. **Overall:** Red Mountain isn't for the faint of heart. It's a place where legends are forged and knees are destroyed. If you're looking for manicured slopes and hot cocoa by a roaring fire, go somewhere else. If you want to test your limits and earn some serious street cred, Red Mountain is your mountain. Just remember to bring your A-game, a healthy dose of fear, and maybe a satellite phone. You know, just in case.
David S — Google review
Not a family friendly resort to take your little kid skiing. I don't want to spend over 200$ to take my 5 year old skiing. You should be offering 30$ day passes for the Silverlode chair or topping creek chair only. Such as what Big white does with their plaza chair. Thanks
Tim S — Google review
Despite warm Spring weather, this was an amazing mountain. Lots of terrain, incredible views, and friendly vibe. We can't wait to go again with powder! This was our first visit and chose to ski with a mountain host to get to know the mountain better. BEST DECISION ever! Shout out to Peter, Dave, and especially Mike for showing us the mountain and taking us places we would have otherwise missed. Foodwise, we enjoyed a delicious classic smoky at Paradise Lodge and great tacos at Flying Phil's at the Topping Creek Lift. We found the guest services to be friendly and helpful as well.
Carrie V — Google review
RED has all the mom and pop vibes you could want in a ski area. They have been adding to the base area infrastructure the past couple years to create a more resort like experience. The mountain is Huge! You couldn’t ask for more terrain and uncrowded slopes. They do a nice job grooming the more beginner terrain. The tree skiing is awesome on a powder day. The views are spectacular. There are no high speed quads but that adds to the nostalgia of the place. It is one of BCs best kept secrets in my opinion. Be sure to hit up Rafters Bar for No Shower Happy Hour. All the staff are friendly and helpful. They have mountain hosts at 9:00 and 12:30 at the base area to show you around the slopes if you like. The parking area can fill up quick on a powder day but, they have a shuttle from town. This place is RAD.

Visited this vineyard this week and it was amazing!! The owner was the person that hosted the wine tasting and was a wealth of information, with personality to boot! Oh, and the wine was awesome!! Our little group walked away with several bottles and was absolutely thrilled with the experience.

Bottling begins this Spring, in preparation for May wine tastings. All wines are as promised: tasty, varied, no headache, and for those of us with chemical sensitivities, no breathing difficulties. A popular venue for outdoor weddings and other large parties, including barbeques and camping. Check the website for monthly events open to the public from May to November.

Quaint vineyard, gorgeous vine-covered tasting room. We were there for the annual Garlic Faire. You must drive about 1/2 mi on a dirt road - it is marked with signs to the winery. You won't get lost!

WORTH the drive. Beautiful place, friendly people, and great wine different from anything we have in Northern California. Really enjoyed the whole experience! Will be ordering some for shipment soon!
Thomas S — Google review
While visiting a friend in Northport, he took us here. The owners had just returned from a vacation & were gracious enough to let us come in for a tasting. Their wine is amazing, i have never been across the pond, but have heard from friends the wine there is sulfite free. We tried mostly reds & 2 whites, chatted w/ the owner & visited w/ their dog.. Ended up buying a case of mixed to go home, we shall savor every glass. The grounds are beautiful & you can tell everything there is done w/ love! Update- After opening a few bottles, that tasted fine, one by one they were bad, !so 3 of 9 bottles were drinkable, they were transported in a controlled climate, stored in our cellar, which is always below 50 or so & wine we purchased from a trader joes, that same trip was transported exactly the same way & stored the same, that wine tasted perfect. Lesson learned here, I have purchased & shipped wine befkre, it is not my 1st day, at all. Very disappointing for all the $$ we spent. I contacted the wi ery, all they said was you must have transported or stored it wrong, doesent make sense, so we are out 6 bottles of 30 - 40 + $$ for each one. We wont be going there again. In hindsight we should have purchased 1 bottle & drank it. The wine we tasted there was good. Ours was horrible.

While camping we decided to go to this Vineyard to do a wine tasting. It does take a bit to get there, but the way is very clearly marked. We didn't get to explore the grounds mainly because it was a hot day, but what we saw was gorgeous. There is a Vineyard dog on the grounds. Make sure to give him head scratches on your way in and out of the wine tasting. The day we went the owners were not there, but that meant we got served by the head wine maker. He was full of interesting information and stories, and of course very knowledgeable about the wines since he makes them. The wine tasting itself was extremely reasonably priced, and we went back to our campsite with 2 bottles. I absolutely recommend this Vineyard.
Jessica D — Google review
Really enjoyed their live music. The place is breathtaking and soooooo green. It has a quick walk down to the beautiful lake. The wine is DELICIOUS and nicely priced! If you like sweet wine, I recommend the Lake Roosevelt White Wine. But no wrong choice here!
Brekyn W — Google review
Owners are awesome and this place is kid friendly. They have a great selection of wines that are very delicious. All organic wines with no sulfites added! I would definitely give it 10 stars if possible.

Got out yesterday afternoon for 18. Great track - totally different on the front 9 and the back 9. Didn't lose any balls, except for the 4 I put into the lake on the 9th hole. The course was packed since it was a beautiful day on a holiday weekend, but the pace of play was great, didn't really have to wait more than a couple minutes once in a while. The greens were punched 2 weeks ago, but I knew that before I started. Totally recommend this course for everyone and I can't wait to get back.
WG G — Google review
I can honestly say this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had, this restaurant served food so bad it was basically inedible. We ended up throwing a lot of it out, which says everything. The quesadilla had maybe half a breast of severely overcooked chicken and plastic cheese that didn’t even melt properly. The hot wings were completely dried out. My youngest waited over an hour for chicken fingers — unacceptable and inexcusable in any setting. The beef dip was a joke: one thin slice of beef, soggy bun, and “gravy” that tasted like warm water and olive oil. Truly awful. I left feeling very ill and spent a hour in the bathroom once we got home. The servers were the only bright spot — they were friendly, professional, and doing everything they could. The problem is clearly the kitchen staff, who are completely unqualified, and management who either don’t care or have no idea what’s going on. The restaurant needs to shut down completely until they can hire a competent kitchen team and management to rebuild basic food quality standards. I will absolutely never go back — and I strongly recommend others stay away until serious changes are made.
Kris K — Google review
I haven't golfed here but the restaurant is great. I had an eight-ounce steak on bread with mushrooms and a generous salad for just $22. Great service and an awesome view from an outdoor table.

First time here. We had the nicest staff in the restaurant, very accommodating and the food was fantastic. The course was in fantastic condition. Love the layout. The only thing I would change is the campground would have a separate office so golfers aren’t waiting for campers to book in at the pro shop causing lineups. We are here for a week and plan on golfing a few times. Ron & Daphne Barson

Been golfing this course off and on for last 20+ years Beautiful course, pro is awesome…. But today was very slow, waited on every hole for 5-8 minutes Backed up everywhere I looked, no marshal and drink cart girl was very sporadic Hopefully this is a one-off as I enjoy this course Looks like they are trying to squeeze too many golfers in!

This fabulous little museum gives a wonderful snapshot of the history of Greenwood from its founding as a city in 1897. From mining displays to saloons and everything in between. An excellent overview. The section on Japanese Canadian internment is also very well done. The $5 admission is well worth it.

A hidden gem! Normally a small out-of-the-way brewery is a guessing game whether it’s going to have good beer or a reasonable ambiance. Well, come to Republic to strike it rich (yes, lame pun.)!!! The beer is cold and fantastic while the service is warm and very welcoming. We waited an hour for this place to open and after having tried the beer, I’d have waited way more than that!

Great brewery for the whole family! The beers are excellent and the space is cozy. There games, ample seating inside and out, they serve several non-beer options and NA beer as well. If you’re hungry, grab a bite to eat next door or bring some snacks to pair with your beer(s). The price points are surprisingly low. Definitely a great stop to make during your time in Republic! Love the board games and shuffleboard too. We visited during the Propector Days Beer’d competition. They also offer many live music events during the summer months. It is also dog friendly!

Definitely wear shoes that you can walk up a hill covered in sharp rocks and pants not shorts. It takes some skill to figure out how to find the rocks with nice layers, and then tap them hard enough to split them along the seam but not shatter them. Many of the slabs are small, so it’s hard to get complete specimens. Overall a very cool experience. I’d definitely do this again if I lived close. Bring drinks and a hat if it’s sunny. Many of the people who go there regularly brought 5 gallon buckets to be able to move rocks to the tables if you’d rather not sit on the ground. The employees were also very helpful.
Patti M — Google review
My son & I drove almost 3 hours one way, ( June 21, '25) from our home in Spokane, to visit the fossil digs at Stonerose Interpretive center in Republic. We brought our own tools, etc planning to spend several hours at the dig site. Well there really wasn't any rock (shale) left to split. It was old diggings that had already thoroughly been gone through prior to us. We were disappointed that more rock had not been pulled from the bank for people to work through. The bank itself was roped off from anyone getting to the rocks that hadn't yet been worked. It was an expensive outing for almost no fossil find to bring home. The dig site parking area is poor, and this site is not at all accessible for anyone who is disabled as in, in a wheelchair or on crutches. Or who needs a walking aid of any kind. If you are old, or very young, or you have bad knees or foot problems, forget this dig site altogether. It wasn't fun! Also we did not see facilities for using a bathroom. This was not explained to us while at the center before paying $30 ( for 2 people) to dig, nor is it on their website. We found this place highly difficult to navigate on the steep, loose shale as both my son & I have a disability in walking and were reduced to crawling around on all fours at times to prowl through the shale. Luckily I do have a mighty large service dog who was able to keep me from falling when trying to walk, or I wouldn't even have attempted getting out of our car. I guess for many people this would be worth it, but for us, it was not worth 6 hours of driving and $30.00.
Robin Y — Google review
The museum was being refurbished, so I can only comment on dig site - it was fun! Bring your own tools, pretty much any chisel will work. Site is in full sun so be prepared. You can leave site (lunch) and return. The site is short walk (200 yds?) from museum, disabled parking at dig. Pretty much 100% you will find some sort of fossil, likely fern or leaf, even without tools.
Andy J — Google review
I’m sorry but if splitting rocks to reveal a leaf fossil to a sun it hasn’t seen in 50 million years isn’t pure poetry to you, are you even living??
Alison C — Google review
I've multiple specimens from this site. For the price of admission, it's a great deal and a good way to spend a few hours outside. That a place as small as Republic has a site like this is incredible, and I hope to someday spend the better part of a week rummaging there for more fossils.
Josh P — Google review
Friendly informative staff. Nice small exhibit of fossils. A good place to break rocks and get geared up to dig!
Mark Z — Google review
The center has a nice collection of fossils, and the volunteers gave us a great introduction. At the dig site, promising pieces of slate were hard to come by -- spent an hour looking for and splitting rocks, found two small fossil fragments. There are better fossil sites in western Washington, but worth a stop if you are in the area!

We had such a great day… Simon was super helpful and friendly! We had our 3 year old with us and the terrain was manageable… we found some cool fossilized leaves. Overall a wonderful experience!

We really enjoyed these museums! The old schoolhouse was full of interesting items from old homesteads, as well as full set-ups of classrooms, a library, etc. Grandma enjoyed seeing all of the things she remembered from her school days, and the kids would have spent all day there if they could have. The ghost town was also fun to walk around. Our 8 year old got bored at that one, but our 11 year old was enthralled. The museum is free, but there's a donation jar on the main floor. Definitely worth a visit if you're anywhere nearby!

30-45 minutes from the Osoyoos! If you love mining history, this is a must see attraction. It's like stepping back in time. The museum is located in an old decommissioned school house (which is a beautiful relic). Best part is, some of the staff working in the museum actually attended school and are full of local history. Pack a lunch (with wine) and drive on down to Molson.

3.23.25) Well probably not but maybe kinda alumni. 🤣 Went to school there for one day as a visitor with the Leslie bunch (bunch of girls one boy) my cousins. It was a classroom upstairs on the east side and overlooking the swing set out front. I think I was about 10 at the time. Besides that my mother and her bunch of sisters and one brother (I don't know maybe it was the water??) And Dad went there also. They're all there in pictures except for the youngest of the cousins who ended up going to school in Oroville when the Molson school closed operation. When I was about 5 (born 1951) we (mom, dad, and I) lived in a long house just north and on the opposite side of the road from the school, pleasantly surprised a couple years ago to find the house is still there. I remember I thought it was a neat place as it had an inside water source. The well pump was right over the kitchen sink. 😲 Real modern plumbing 🙂. Daddy had his logging truck parked right outside. One day in playing outside, 5 year old me decided to climb up and get in the truck, where I stood up on the seat to "drive." But that wasn't enough, then decided I needed more and turned the key on and pushed the starter button. Old truck started right up. 🫣 Real good thing it wasn't in gear or me and truck would have ended up in the lake down the hill. After a bit I got to thinking better of it and decided dad might be real mad, so I shut it off and crawled back out. Mom and dad never knew. There was a store right next to the house so Mom didn't need to go far to get groceries. There was, still is a shop, right by the house dad needn't go far to work on the rigs. 🙂 My next adventure was that I decided to twadle on down to see dad working at his portable sawmill. This was a number of blocks away. I found a big rough sawn board sticking out of the side road dirt bank, walked to its end and sat down. After a bit Mom came down in a huff and bawled out dad for having me down there without telling her. Dad had a good time trying to explain he didn't even know I was there🤣, last adventure like that I remember having.😃 Dad's sawmill was portable, though mom said it only got ported once. It had a full size circular saw blade and daddy ran the whole thing off a bare wheel and the family car up on blocks via a long flat-belt. I remember it in both of the places it was at. The school was still in operation and the antique machinery, etc. wasn't yet a thing. Later I recall a May Day up there and the girls doing the May pole dance with the ribbons. It was up by the swing set in front of the school house. Lots of old stuff to look at in the school museum. Pictures of lots of the kids who went to school there. Old timey machinery. School even smells the same as it did way back when. Down the road to the south are some buildings housing old machinery and assay equipment. Nice collection. Old memories for me new adventures for you. I go every year now so hope I see you up there. 🙂👋 Oh, stick to the paved roads especially if you're in a RV, last year I (and some tourist in a big RV) decided to take a shortcut, not pleasant, on a long dusty rough gravel road, probably worse for them ☹️. If you're in an RV it may be prudent to come in from Tonasket as the road from Oroville includes a very long up hill section. And return the same way. If in a car you'll be fine either way. Though I find it more scenic coming from Tonasket. Then going back via the Oroville route. On the 4th of July I do the rodeo at Chesaw, then go to Oroville to watch the nice fireworks display. Welcome to all who visit, have fun.🙂

One of my favorite small and authentic museums! Local folks who grew up here volunteer during open hours. Be sure to ask about their history living there!

Really interesting Time Capsule. My husband and I came all the way from Seattle to see Molson and the school museum. It did not disappoint! I recommend walking a couple blocks down the road to see the historical site too.

This was one of the coolest old museum I have been in, the tool collection in the old gym was amazing, the lovely Ladies that greet you when you come in were full of stories, if you just spend a little time chatting with then, I will definitely stop by the museum next time I'm here.

Very interesting museum. The 2 room's in the school were preserved from the last classes held in 1968-69.
