Cathedral of Our Lady of Assumption

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Churches & Cathedrals
A stunning landmark in the heart of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, the Our Lady of Assumption Co-Cathedral is a masterpiece of Romanesque and Italian Renaissance architecture. Built in 1918, this historic cathedral features intricate murals, towering columns, and beautiful stained-glass windows, reflecting the town’s deep French-Canadian and Catholic heritage. As a designated National Historic Site, it remains a place of worship and a cultural gem, attracting visitors with its breathtaking interior and rich history.
John S — Google review
Beautiful, was fortunate enough to be able to tour the cathedral in 2003. Recent visit we could have arranged a tour by calling the number for a guide however didn't have time. Highly recommend making the effort to see this historic landmark even if you are not Catholic. If you are Catholic, it's a lasting tribute of faith and community. Imagine building this today, in a town this size. What had to happen for this wonder to manifest onto the landscape of the Prairie? Personally, I find that alone to be amazing.
S B — Google review
We were so happy and blessed for having the opportunity of visiting this beautiful cathedral. Full of history, art and amazing murals. Next time you driving by stop to see this beautiful church.
R S — Google review
A beautiful cathedral with a rich history which our host Louis, passionately presented to us. It's worth the detour. Visit the little shops and have lunch at the Paris Cafe on the main street while you're in town. Gravelbourg embraces its rich history and showcases well.
Dino — Google review
Beautiful cathedral out in the middle of nowhere! Stop by if you are in the area, but call Louis first to schedule a tour. We arrived and called to see when he was available. He came immediately, but I think he had another couple already scheduled.
Jan S — Google review
Stopped at the church on our way through Gravelbourg. Pulled into parking lot. There was a man doing something with his car there. I said hello and he told me he was a tour guide. I said is the church locked to which he replied yes. I said oh just wanted to have a look. He said no and turned away from me. Nice. Churches are locked. Locked. I know vandalism. But he was right there. Do you have to pay? I know most cathedrals in Spain you had to. Good gig. For a very rich institution.
Dawn V — Google review
Our guide Louis was knowledgeable and had answers to our questions during the tour.Enjoyed the fantastic paintings and architecture of the impressive co-cathedral.I recommend seeing this impressive building

Nature & Parks
Douglas Provincial Park, located near Saskatoon, is an exceptional destination for campers and nature enthusiasts. The park features well-maintained campgrounds with clean facilities and firewood available for use. One of the main attractions is the Sand Dunes Trail, which provides stunning views of mesmerizing dunes that are perfect for photo opportunities. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a variety of hiking trails that are clearly marked throughout the park.
My family and I went here last weekend. One of the best campsites! Staffs are super nice from then front desk, rangers, janitors etc.. the service is superb! Also the washrooms are super clean! It looks like they clean the washroom every 15mins. We’ll definitely go back! 💯 Also the ice cream is so good! The people there are also very nice!
Buffy G — Google review
My first visit to Canada and my friend brought me out to the Sand Dunes for a hike. Super beautiful, well maintained, quiet, and thoroughly enjoyable. We did the short route which was about 2 miles in and 2 back out, depending on how far into the Dunes you go. We brought a little lunch and blanket to sit and have lunch after. Would def recommend!
Kendra K — Google review
Beautiful fall camping! Quiet, peaceful and so much scenery! No water, and no sani dump (go to Elbow fire hall for that) but there are 30/50 amp hookups. On Oct. 13 we also got to see an amazing comet!
Brian L — Google review
Excellent Provincial Park near Saskatoon. They have great campgrounds and very fascinating Sand Dunes. We went there for May long weekend a did camping for one night. The campground is great. Toilets and showers area was clean. They had logs for making fire. There are not many trails except the lengthier Sand Dunes Trail which is fantastic. Tou will end up seeing mesmerizing dunes and it's a great place to take pictures as well.
Prateek B — Google review
Always a great experience to stay at this campground. We don't even have a favourite site, almost all are great. We love that there is a (very good) concession for food, ice cream etc and camping/fishing supplies. Lake Diefenbaker is very clear and you can walk in far. There are beautiful walking trails, we finally did the Juniper trail on the other side of the road. At dusk we often go watch the sunset or look for deer near the campground. Never a dull moment!
Marlies W — Google review
Very lovely sand beach. It has the most private comping sites. Most of the sites are filled and covered by trees. There is store by the beach. It have many beaches, I personally prefer the sandy beach that you have to walk a bit to get there as well as the beach by boat launch. It has a clean water to swim. The only issue might be washrooms that are that clean and the showers which aren't that many and you have to walk to get there.
Kourosh M — Google review
I love all aspects of this park, but you must visit the sand dunes. What a wonderful experience. After a twenty minute walk on the trail, which has plenty of trees and cactus, the sand dunes stretch out before you like a mirage. And remember, after a hot walk to the dunes, make your way to Lake Diefenbaker for a swim in the nicest lake in the province.
Shane C — Google review
Went for a winter hike with my dogs. Couldn’t find any winter pics online so I thought I’d add some. Of course the water is off, bathrooms closed, etc. But there are many trails to walk or ski, places to picnic, and gorgeous nature to see!

Very cool place. Even the washrooms are nice and clean. If you love birds do give a visit. And pls pls do make a donation, whatever you can. This place is only funded by the visitors.
Mj M — Google review
Great stop along the TransCanada Highway, particularly if you're a birding enthusiast. The displays are interesting and the kids thought it was cool to be able to get free little baggies of salt from the local salt processing plant. There is a viewing platform out in front of the centre to look out at the salt flats. Definitely stop by if you're driving through and spend sometime exploring the salt flats for the avocets and other birds -- there are many. It's a unique mini-ecosystem in the middle of the prairies.
Steven B — Google review
Great stop to learn a little about shorebirds and what needs to be done to increase their populations. Enjoyed the gift shop. Has a mix of books and local products. Some of the info needs to be updated but is still relevant
Meagan M — Google review
Excellent interpretive center, we went through in early July but would be best visited during migration seasons.

Our Canadian road trip led us to a hidden gem! We met an amazing staff member at this non-profit and shared some heartwarming stories. It's clear they're making a real difference in the community. Your support, no matter how small, helps them keep their doors open and continue their valuable work. Please stop by and donate if you're in the area.
Chetram R — Google review
A nice stop on the long drive. Lots of information on the migratory birds of the area. Very interesting. The gentleman at the desk was polite and knowledgeable and seemed to love sharing his knowledge. The salt flats just seem to appear out of nowhere.

Perched on the bluffs with stunning views of Lake Diefenbaker, Harbor Golf Club & Resort is an 18-hole championship course that offers a thrilling challenge for golfers of all levels. The clubhouse provides picturesque vistas of the marina. Visitors praise the immaculate course condition and its challenging nature, making it a worthwhile destination from nearby cities like Saskatoon and Regina. Beyond golf, guests can enjoy delicious meals at the clubhouse restaurant with scenic views of the marina.
The view of the Harbour from the patio was fantastic and the food was really good too! Great spot for a day at the lake
Caleb — Google review
This is a well kept golf course with some incredible views of Lake Diefenbaker. Book online for the best value (Score golf, Golfpass or Chronogolf) the cost for a round of golf in the pro shop is much higher. I would not recommend playing this course from the blue tees unless you have played this course a number of times because there are a number of blind tee shots. The restaurant is hub of activity for the community - the food and staff were excellent. The patio has an incredible view of the harbor.
Alvin T — Google review
Such an amazing course! Holes 13-16 are especially good. This is easily in my top 3 golf courses in Saskatchewan.
Camls — Google review
Good place for golf. Beautiful photo spot with yachts and wharves with a view from the hill. Food area it the back of the club building
Khang R — Google review
Excellent menu. Great salad options beyond the usual clubhouse fare. Breakfast-brunch menu looked great as well...but will have to wait until our next visit for that. Service was prompt and very friendly. Fantastic view of the harbour from the patio.
Terry K — Google review
Restaurant used to be great, but not impressed with the calamari appetizer. Burnt to a crisp. Never had burnt calamari before. Ugh. See photo.
Jorge “ — Google review
Went to the restaurant. The service was great! The view was cool. But the meal was mediocre at best. Bland and flavorless for both main and side, so bad that even my child wouldn't eat the fries.
Kris — Google review
Food is great and staff is awesome. Must stop in Elbow. Golf course is in great shape and the back nine is beautiful! Over looking the lake - nothing like it in Saskatchewan.

Really cool small town museum, I hope we're able to visit in the on season some time!
Michael G — Google review
This is a local train museum located in the town of Herbert. Unfortunately we were unable to visit inside the museum as the papered hours were Monday to Friday and we were there on a Saturday. Looks like you can enter the caboose car. There is also a small blacksmith building and school house as part of the museum. Would rate higher if visiting days and hours were longer. Also no signage on the highway, we just stumbled upon it. The train cars are cool and in good condition.
Tyler J — Google review
Pretty neat place. Cool that you can touch most of the stuff and go inside the train cars. There is ice cream inside the station as well🎊🎊

RV Parking. Easy to get into and easy to exit. Excellent food. Their fish and chips are so good. Two large breaded fish. Clubhouse is good. Only one breakfast but reasonably priced and so good. Bacon, nice portions of back bacon, two eggs, baby potatoes, toast for 16.00. 10% off with free players card.

Beautiful casino! Great food and friendly staff
Shilla J — Google review
I went to this casino to spend 20$ and when I went back to my car, I couldn't start it. The casino's staff try to help me but it wasn't the battery. It was the starter and we were on a Friday night. So one of their staff brought me to my motel so I could go back the next day to find a towing and a repair shop. Thank you so much for your help!
Marie — Google review
The casino itself is fine and good parking etc however our dining room experience was lacking. We ate at 2 pm when it wasn’t at all busy. A young woman seated us, whom we never saw again, and then a young man raced by and plopped two glasses of water on the table without greeting us or anything. He later returned to take our order but seemed rushed and not friendly. He returned with our food without barely saying a word and he never returned to our table until we were finished eating and gave us our bill. We wondered if he had to cook the food himself or something to be so rushed (there was only one other table of 3 dining besides us in the whole restaurant) And yet I felt obligated to tip him (minimally mind you) That being said the food was good. A bit pricey for a casino restaurant though.
L S — Google review
Have been a visitor from MB often but this particular visit was very special as we had the great pleasure of meeting a very special lady TRUDI at customer service desk who is such an awesome lady and true assett to the Casino. Good customer service is a rarity these days hers is AMAZING!!!! Love ya girl ❤️

Violet — Google review
Located across from a hotelni stayed at so I ate in the casino restaurant. Had the fish and chips - a "not horrible not stellar" 6 out of 10. Casino was too smoky in the area that was non smoking so I left after eating. Needs better smoking room ventilation or something.
Karin F — Google review
Delicious meal tonight. But beware of up-charges. I ordered the Breaded Cutlet, described as “Two breaded veal cutlets with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, pan gravy and seasonal vegetable.” The server asked if I wanted gravy, so I said yes. When we got the bill, it had a side of gravy charged. I asked about that and she said oh yes it comes with gravy but I offered you extra gravy.

Amazing service. Thank you so much for being polite and patient with me. I am still learning my way around this little heaven of mine. And I love to watch movies on the big screen.
Little S — Google review
Better hope you don’t get hungry for some snacks after the movie starts playing cause they shut the concession stand. There was a woman there I had exact cash on hand but wouldn’t serve me. What’s the point in running a theatre if you’re not going to keep concession stand open. And the popcorn tasted old. Other then that it would have been great. Typical for Swift Current to have yet another business ran poorly. And not keep things open properly like everywhere else.
Jonathan W — Google review
It was clean and super quiet. The cashier was ok not super antousiast to work too. It does change nothing to the place being al good and clean but that movie should have NOT made it to the screen. I hate to pay for something that I waist my money on. I go to the theatre once every 2 years I’d like to enjoy the movie a little. I’ve watch : mickey
Johany B — Google review
We went to see twister tonight, as we are approx 20 min into the movie we hear the movie playing in the theatre next to us. Not overly impressed with that. I went to the washroom and come out only to get dirty looks from one of the girls writing something on paper not once but twice. Not very inviting to say the least. My daughter then tells me this girl did the same thing to her. Very disrespectful and very unprofessional. Do better at your job maybe try with a smile or a smirk instead of dirty looks to your customers. This is a very nice theatre that I do come to quiet often the seats are comfy, snacks are affordable and all the staff is great not sure what this girls problem was.
Lisa F — Google review
Would not allow me to bring my water in the thratre. Would'nt give me a small bag to share a large popcorn. You can hear the movie in the theatre next to you. Increased prices then reduced the size of the popcorn byn1/2. Sound is mono. Substandard on every level except staff is friendly.
Dee D — Google review
Overall a decent movie going experience. The seats are comfortable, popcorn is warm and buttery, and a small but respectable snack selection. It is reasonably affordable compared to the larger cinemas. It is only a 2 theater cinema so the movie selection is limited but it's the biggest in the area. Sound is good and picture quality is good. Not the best theater I've been to but a decent experience.
Sean P — Google review
Lovely cinema. Lovely staff great time had woth my children
Taylouise G — Google review
We were looking forward to the senior tickets pricing, but we're very much surprised at how much the price had gone up. We did not purchase snacks as we had just finished the evening meal hoever looking at the prices of those we definitely would not have bought any. We will not attend again unless it is a very special movie we wish to spend our limited funds on to view on the big screen. Economy today prohibits seniors from spending this kind of money

Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park is part of a group of parks that also includes Danielson Provincial Park, Douglas Provincial Park, Outlook & District Regional Park, and Palliser Regional Park. The Bearpaw campground offers spacious sites with ample shade from trees and flat gravel areas for parking. The beach features smooth sand and clear water perfect for various activities like paddle boarding and swimming.
This park has lots of very nice sandy beaches. We enjoyed the ridges and ravines hike, which has a spectacular view of the lake. Campsites are well treed with moderate privacy. The store is very handy and the ice cream was a hit. There are many amenities and attractions at Sask Landing Provincial Park 😎
Jason S — Google review
Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park is a scenic destination located approximately 50 kilometers north of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, along Highway 4. The park spans over 5,735 hectares, encompassing diverse landscapes from rolling hills to the shores of Lake Diefenbaker.
John S — Google review
Lovely undulating paths – a few very steep. Interesting valley flora, with beaver-dammed pools. Evidence of moose, wolves and/or coyotes.
Gordon P — Google review
Lots of red ants in the site and no beach access close to parking to launch SUP's. We were at Riverside in a beautiful site beside the lake. The maps are deceiving as it showed a water outlet between our site and the next. Shower house is also not accurate on the map. Overall decent campground and the ants aren't the fault of the park.
Stella S — Google review
Camped here for several days. It was hot. There is alot to see and do in the area. The bathrooms and showers were very nice and free $$$. Wood was free as well. Be aware when you stay you will be paying a daily fee for your vehicle on top of your camping reservation, weird. Alot of people fishing Lake Definbaker.
T H — Google review
Breathtaking views, and exciting adventures! Climbed the big hills till we lost our breath, and then kept going! Definately a destination I would recommend any day! Even if you just go on the hills nearby without going in the park!
Earnest V — Google review
We were here only for the day for a new experiment that the park was trying out. A Farmer's Market! We brought along wooden and 3D printed items for sale to the Saturday would have been a much better choice of days to hold such an event in the park, as since we were the first vendors to set up shop at the amphitheater, we sure encountered many more campers arriving at the park as we were departing! We were located at the amphitheater at the Sagebrush Camp Loop. The weather was a scorcher, as it was 33 during the time we departed the park around 6 pm. This was our first experience inside the park. The grounds were cluttered with multiple tree branches, which ended up to be trip hazzards for both us and our camping customers. Sure, I get it that they like to keep the grounds as natural as possible, but the experience we encountered was pathetic, to say the least. I will include some of our photos of the day where you just might be able to see some of the clutter of debris in the background.
Michael H — Google review
Favourite spot to off leash with the dogs. With precautions and care for all others, must respect. They will leash up for company. Do not encourage chasing so watch closely and far for any creatures. Part of the fun of my adventures is keeping it from going south in a porcupine flash. Yes be careful it is not tamed here. And is more glorious because it is not disrespected. Can see ahead of time who is walking with no surprises. Have extremely rewarding heart stealing soul cleansing lung filling scenery walks here. Warm dry air that day can be a cool wind others. Beautiful. Any trash found goes out with us. No fires. None. Leave it thrive.

The warm reception from the friendly staff at the museum encourages tourists to extend their stay in Shaunavon.
We stopped in Shaunavon because of this museum and - note this Bear Lodge, JRs, Checkers, Co-op, and post office - we spent money in each of your businesses because the gals in here welcomed us and convinced us to stay in Shaunavon. We hadn't planned to but we did. Interesting art exhibit too. Wish the harvest eatery had been open - sorry to miss it.

The Eastend Historical Museum is a charming place with a rich collection of historical artifacts and exhibits. Visitors can explore fossils, bones, and a 1909 log cabin alongside the impressive 1903 Case steam engine in the Machine Shed. The museum offers an immersive experience with detailed historical photos dating back to the late 1800s, providing insight into the past. Guests have praised the kind and thoughtful hosts during special events like Canada Day celebrations.
A little town with a whole bunch of history, very charming. The museum is really cool with a lot to see and attention to detail spanning over a century. You won't regret it. The steam tractor was a highlight for me.
Xrstopher P — Google review
It was a very windy day and as a tourist this was one indoor thing I decided to check out as I went through Eastend. What a pleasant surprise to see a very good array of homesteading items and other assorted local stone tool and fossil finds. Also the lady working was very friendly and a great host. I ended up spending at least an hour here and could spend longer if looking at all the things in detail. $10 recommended entry donation and well worth it
Wes L — Google review
We stopped in on Canada Day, after spending the prior day in Eastend we decided to drive back on our way home to Regina. I can not express how kind and thoughtful the hosts of the Canada Day celebration were! We spent way more time than we had exploring the museum it’s the must stop along with jones peak we were thrilled to see Jones collection there as well! Best spur of the moment decision!
Natalie C — Google review
This was a cute little museum with lots to see. I think it had more fossils(non-replica) than the dinosaur museum!
Jessica C — Google review
I’m not sure what to say about this place other than it is simply amazing. The collection of historical pieces is nothing short of astounding. You often find historical photos of people but many, if not most of the photos here actually have peoples names, dates and addresses from as far back as the late 1800s. It really gives you an appreciation for the times and helps immerse you in it. I could go on for pages about the interesting and unique items that you can’t find anywhere else but I’ll just say that you NEED to visit this museum and you should definitely go out of your way to do so. You’ll see things that should never be lost. The operators are also the nicest old couple you’ll meet.

If you're visiting or passing through Eastend, definitely come to this museum, an absolutely excellent collection of fossils and historical items, really friendly and knowledgeable staff.

The T.rex Discovery Centre in southwest Saskatchewan is home to Scotty, the world's largest T-Rex skeleton. Visitors can explore numerous paleontological displays and even try their hand at excavating fossils in the outdoor 'dig pit'. The center features a theater room, a preparation lab, and hiking trails. Knowledgeable guides offer engaging tours, making it an educational experience for all ages. The museum is charming and informative, with attractions that cater to both children and adults.
Entrance via donation. Nice displays. Small museum with a lot of interesting information provided. Museum is off the main highway, a short distance down a gravel road.

Had an amazing time here. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Great displays and awesome 2k trail loop. Sage smell was delightful when exiting the building. Was wondering if it was worth the drive from the campground but thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Lots of hands on activities.
Andrea S — Google review
An amazing centre with focus on the discovery of the largest T. rex found. “Scotty” was found in the valley around Eastend and what an amazing discovery. The centre isn’t large, but modern and well worth spending at least an hour or 2. There’s a theatre with a film that focuses on the discovery of the T. rex. The staff is friendly and helpful. Such a great place to stop. I highly recommend you do so. There’s no set entrance fee…just a donation to the centre “recommended 10$”.

Great little place to discover what walked Saskatchewan 65 million years ago. Absolute must if youre in the area

Absolutely enthralling! A compact gem in Eastend-sculpted with care and bursting with wow moments. Scotty, the world's largest T. rex, dominates the CN Gallery with an awe-inspiring presence, while the Paleo Lab Experience turns learning into hands-on adventure. Year-round paleontologists, interactive dig stations, movies, hiking trails, and a Dino Dig Pit offer something unforgettable for every age. Admission by donation, open daily through the summer. A must-see on any Saskatchewan road trip
Jishnu K — Google review
Absolutely loved this! There's even small theater to watch a short video of the excavation team giving a detailed story of the dig.

Such a neat place. Lots of info on dinosaurs and discovering bones and fossils in the region. The staff was super knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The surrounding area was stunning— with amazing views of the scenery throughout the museum. They have a very cute gift shop as well. Around $10 donation per person is recommended.

Excellent place to stop and take in. Entrance is by donation. Please consider a donation of at least $10 per person. Also, the movie presented is well worth the time to sit and take in. Makes the whole experience much more informative. Beautiful building. Beautiful town. Beautiful spot of Saskatchewan

Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park - Saskatchewan

Nature & Parks
Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, located at the border of Alberta and Saskatchewan, is Canada's first provincial park. It features the picturesque Cypress Hills, reaching 580 meters high and offering a range of activities for nature enthusiasts. The park spans 400 square kilometers and boasts diverse landscapes including forests, wetlands, grasslands, bluffs, prairies, and hills. Visitors can enjoy camping, biking, hiking, skiing in winter months as well as water sports and wildlife watching.
Hands down, this is our favourite Provincial Park in SK. It has incredible amenities and something for everyone. Glorious vistas abound. The campsites are quite open/very low privacy due to the pines, but if you book the sites on the outside edges of the loops, they're better. Weather can be unpredictable at these elevations. We had hail and cold temps in July. The observatory and dark sky preserve are also a real treat!
Jason S — Google review
Cypress Hills were as beautiful as ever. Very quiet as we went in Sept. If you want activities go in summer. Was a bit smokey when we were there so view from lookout wasn't as good as usual .
Carl — Google review
Only got to spend 1 night on my way to Alberta. The park is located south of the town of Maple Creek. You can refill gas and buy necessities in here or do it in the park as they have a store, restaurant, and gas pump within it. There are many trails around , beach and many modern amenities. The trails are full of deer, and where there is deer, there are ticks. There is a golf course as well. This is a park well worth visiting with the family and for more than 1 day.
Vivian F — Google review
Grew up coming here. It's changed a lot, but it's a nice spot for families. There's always something going on. A bit more commercialization than the Elkwater side, so be aware of that if you're looking for seclusion and time in the bush.
Angie N — Google review
Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is one of the most beautiful places in Saskatchewan. There are lots of things to explore. We tented in #67 in Terrace and the site was lovely. Terrace is quite sloped so plan where to raise your tent accordingly. Unfortunately it is quite open to site #23 and we had some loud talkers for neighbours. There was no patrol of the park to enforce the 24 quiet times. We had ear plugs and used them. Loch Leven was lovely to paddle, we launched off the beach, there is parking nearby. Conglomerate Cliffs are lovely, as is Bald Butte and more. Will definitely be back!
Patricia M — Google review
First time at Cypress Hills this year. It's a fantastic park. Would recommend at least 4 nights stay to take everything in. Washrooms were very clean, including the odd outhouse building. Nice warm showers you don't have to pay for and free campfire wood. Hiking trails are very well groomed. All employees in the park were very friendly. Hardly any tree coverage in the Meadows campground, would highly recommend selecting a site on the outer edge. Water craft rentals are very reasonably priced and enjoyable.
Jim P — Google review
Beautiful place to eat a quiet meal. Facilities were clean. Plenty of places to put garbage. The time of year we were there left the park pretty quiet. I would say when it is busy you are pretty close to your neighbor. That said, there are plenty of books and crannies to find some alone time. The scenery is to die for.
Dante M — Google review
Been there two years in a row now. Lots of walking/biking trails. General store has almost everything and is very reasonably priced. Enjoyed the ice cream and food at Dar’s Little Dipper. My only complaint is there is not much around for water/lakes but the small lake in the park is still fairly big enough to enjoy for a couple hours.

Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
Awesome activity for a group! We took our kids & cousins (ages 8-19) ziplining and everyone had an absolute blast. Booking & Logistics: The online booking system was fantastic - simple, clear, and we could book, pay, and sign all forms online. We were able to book the day before for a mid-week slot with plenty of options available. Everything you need to know about timing and restrictions is clearly laid out on their website. The Setting: The facility is beautifully tucked into the trees on the way into Cypress Hills Resort -a quick and lovely 5-minute walk from the Resport, with clear parking. What I noticed off the hop was how thoughtfully designed everything is. The structures blend into the surrounding forest, the zipline and platforms just kind of disappear. In a place as beautiful as Cyrpress, it's really nice that this man made activity centre isn't an eyesore. The Staff & Organization: Check-in and getting geared up was incredibly well-organized and staffed. The guides were absolute professionals - we had one 8-year-old who was definitely nervous, and they did a killer job distracting and reassuring her. Their expertise got her through that first run, and after that she was golden! They adapted perfectly to our wide age range, treating everyone appropriately. The Experience: We went at 10:30 before it got too hot, which was perfect timing. The kids noted that you get plenty of shade on the platforms and spend so little time standing around (mostly zipping!) that you stay comfortable throughout. There's a beautiful walking path through the trees directly under the ziplines, so non-participants can follow along for at least the first two runs. Facilities: Washrooms available, shaded seating areas, and you don't need to bring anything - they provide all the gear. Just be prepared to independently climb a long ladder to reach the platforms. The kids all came off that last run absolutely thrilled, saying it was "amazing" and "so, so worth it." The staff were just fantastic, the setting is breathtaking, and the whole operation runs like clockwork. Highly recommend for families looking for an unforgettable adventure! Note: Other activities like mini zipline and climbing wall are available for additional cost - all clearly explained on their website.

Had a blast with Paulson and Jorja on our zip line tour and learned some fun facts about cougars. Every line had a new challenge that made it interesting! Would recommend, it was a super fun beginner course!

The process was seamless from start to finish. Started with the kids on the mini-zips, did the climbing wall, and booked for a full tour the next day. Everyone loved it and the staff were knowledgable and helpful. Thanks Tree0six!

Jory and his team are top notch! They catered to my autistic son so skillfully and gave grace and space for his big feelings- making accommodations- beyond that they allowed him extra try’s on the drop (it was slow at the time)- and also gave him extra time/ guidance on the climbing wall. My daughter and I had a blast on the zip line tour- she is only 6 but a little dare devil and had the most amazing time- she can’t wait to come back! Highly recommended- alllll the offerings are amazing and well executed- with skillful kindness! 10/10 ⭐️ Also they are so great at answering alllllllll the questions- so call or ask when you are there- but definitely make it part of your plans if you happen to be in the area! You won’t regret it 💞

While passing through Maple Creek during their vacation, the individual decided to make a brief stop at Cowtown Kids and Candy. They regretted not having more time as they found the place incredibly impressive. The store offers an extensive variety of toys, games, and puzzles that overwhelmed the visitor. They wished they could have spent hours browsing and were disappointed that they couldn't take more fun items home due to limited car space. The toy store is suitable for both children and those young at heart.
I absolutely adored this store! This place is a hidden gem, especially for puzzle lovers like me. They have the largest selection of puzzles I’ve ever seen – I could have easily spent the entire day browsing. The store is impeccably organized by themes, making it so easy to find exactly what you're looking for. Whether you’re into puzzles, toys, or just looking for a fun stop on your trip, this store is well worth the visit. I can’t wait to return!

If you haven’t been to Cowtown Kids Toys & Candy in Maple Creek, Sask., you need to check out this AMAZING store! Puzzle enthusiasts, Bob and his team have the largest selection of quality Brands and piece counts, you will not be disappointed! Also, our son collects the Bruder Brand of Trucks and the choices you will have are endless! We drive 4 hours to shop there and will definitely be back! Thanks Cowtown Kids Toys & Candy for your excellent customer service and creating a wonderful shopping experience in your retail space!

Awesome collection of toys over 12000 puzzle kits on hand. From 50 to 60000 Awsome
Ron P — Google review
My kids loved this place. It's in a relatively small town but it's got so much candy and treats. They've got lots of kinds of pop that are unusual. I, at least, haven't seen most of them before. Famous brand's but strange flavours. My kids bought several varieties. They serve ice cream if you're wanting a cold treat on a hot day. Their selection of candy is enormous. Some I haven't seen since I was a kid (Necco wafers). They had many from the USA and around the world (e.g. Kitkats from Japan, German candy spreads). If you're in Maple Creek and have a sweet tooth you should definitely check it out.

For years I drove past the turnoff to Maple Creek, not wanting to spend the extra hour on my way through Saskatchewan. When a family member moved here 10 years ago, I discovered this place. It is truly amazing. You will not find a puzzle collection anywhere like this.

You'll get lost and possibly spend the entire day there! They operate several small shops around town inclusive of a bookstore, candy store, toy store and stuffy store. Staff are friendly and they have a significant variety of products. Prices seem reasonable and the Lego was cheaper than most chains. The puzzle collection is unbelievable.

Stunning Shop. My wife and I visited for the first time a few days ago, wonderful place and the board game we bought for ourselves is proving to be quite addictive.

Fort Walsh National Historic Site, located just 30 minutes outside of Maple Creek, offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of the northwest mounted police. Visitors can enjoy guided tours and weaponry displays while exploring pine forest trails. The site provides living classroom opportunities where visitors can step back in time to the 1870s and learn about life at a working fort during a lawless period.
Getting here is a bit off the beaten path, with the secondary highway poorly maintained but it is worth the hairpin turns to visit! They have a terrific little museum and informative video. Shuttle ride to the Fort if needed or a nice walk down the road. A historic site that is highly recommended for all those out for adventures and Canadian history.

You just have to check their hours before you go there. They aren't open on Sundays and basically keep bankers hours otherwise. But even if you don't get into the interpretative centre, it's still a nice place to visit with pretty spectacular views.

It wasa great stop and had even done the tour. Which was amazing as the young tour guide was great as he was informative and genuinely interested in history of Canada which of course Cypress Hills is rich with.

This place was the best visitor's experience I'd ever had at an information center. We were on bicycles, and they gave us Clif bars, offered us water, and let us rest in their lounge area as long as we needed to. They also had an amazing Canada Day celebration with cake and loonie chocolates :-)

The Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre in Medicine Hat is a vibrant cultural hub that showcases the city's rich history and artistic expression. Located on traditional Blackfoot territory, this contemporary Canadian architectural marvel offers a diverse range of experiences, including art exhibitions, museum displays, live performances, and educational programs. Visitors can explore the city's heritage through the permanent exhibit while also enjoying rotating art displays and engaging in theatrical productions.
My first visit here and it is a incredible facility that culminates multiply facets of culture. From art to live performance and a historical museum of the region. When I was visiting their was a powerful exhibit by Jude Grobiel on humans impact on the earth that I found profound and engaging.

Provocative subject matter in the exhibit, relating to society's cultural expectations of men. The historical section was very detailed. We thoroughly enjoyed this gem.

We had our wedding here and it not only was The Esplanade a beautiful place for our wedding, but the staff went above and beyond to make everything run incredibly smoothly! From setting up our tables and chairs (for both ceremony and reception), to coming to get me from the "bridal room" once everyone was seated on the terrace, giving us full access of their sound systems, and helping us with the little odds and ends that were forgotten about that day - they could not have impressed us any more! The price for all that we got was also amazing! It's a beautifully updated place for a wedding that needs minimum decorating, and many options to make the day the way you want it!

This place is a must when visiting MH. It has one permanent exhibition that's amazing and two rotating exhibits. The lady in the entrance is very helpful. The kids can do a scavenger hunt looking for different pieces from the exhibitions. I visited in two occasions (summer last year and spring this year). Great place to take the kids, last time they had an activity area and my son loved it!

Saamis Tepee, also known as the World's Largest Tepee, is a major landmark in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Standing at 65.5 meters tall and made of steel and concrete, this impressive structure was originally built for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary before finding its current home along the TransCanada Highway. The tepee is located on the edge of the Seven Persons coulee, which includes the significant Saamis Archaeological Site believed to hold 83 million artifacts.
Saamis Tepee was an incredible experience. It’s a must-visit destination to explore the rich history, beautifully situated in a scenic and well-maintained area.

A scenic spot with easy on and off access to the TCH. Beautiful artwork and info boards explaining the history of the First Peoples. I walked a little beyond the tepee, away from the parking lot and there is a gorgeous viewpoint looking into a valley that has a couple of golf courses and a wildlife area. It is a very pretty location. Tourist info is close by as well.

Very spiritual place to visit. Rich or historical data and facts that could be read on stands as you get there. Perfect for pictures and Instagram posts. Doesn’t matter when you visit, there rarely no one around, tourists, locals, families are coming to take a walk or just chill at the area.

Very nice. It's a must see if you are close to medicine hat. The place is amazing with very nice drawings and very nice history written. No tickets needed. It's easy to park the car. I went a bit before sunset, we took our sunset pics then after the walk the lights went on after the sunset so it was a great timing.

This is definitely a worthwhile spot visit when you visit Medicine Hat. The First Nations people were not treated well and this is a very suitable educational art to celebrate the First Nations people and their contributions and their Heritage and Society

Free to public access. Has a nice amount of information posted inside about some of the history. Very cool spot to add a point of interest along your road trip. Only recommendation is to try and go on a day that has a breeze or not very hot at there is zero shade other than some spots inside the tepee and if you plan to read the information you won’t want to be lingering too long.

Echo Dale Regional Park, located in Medicine Hat, is a serene oasis for both visitors and wildlife. The park offers year-round opportunities for exploration with its picturesque trails and charming boat lake, perfect for family picnics. In the summer, it's a popular destination for swimming in the river and enjoying barbecue picnics among the cliffsides. History enthusiasts can tour early settlers' homes or coal mines during this time as well.
Echo Dale Regional park is an absolute gem, hidden in Medicine Hat, Alberta. When I first saw it, my thought was : ‘how is this place not packed with people?’ And then I thought, ‘what an ideal place to have in our backyard and for locals to grow up enjoying and making family memories at!’ To find it, you drive in the plains, in the middle of nowhere and then suddenly you turn and descend into a hidden coulee valley. It’s like a magic trick. The river flows beside the tall coulees cliffs and there are two manmade lakes side by side. One is for swimming with sand and lifeguards and the other is tree lined with a dock for paddle boards. The park is enormous, covered in large shady trees, has picnic tables and is absolutely idyllic. There is lots of parking, river access and also a gorgeous overlook. I even took my aunt and uncle from the Vancouver area here to see it and they loved it too. Medicine Hat is very lucky to have a park like this. Sometimes when people live in a place their whole lives, they don’t appreciate what they have and this place is one of them. I have lived in three provinces and eleven cities and have never seen a park like this!

We loved that place. We camped there supposed to be for 2 nights. There is so much to do. We biked to the old town Medicine Hat and it took us 40min We loved the Bike trail system. We decided we extend for 1 extra night. Also We would love to go to the heritage site of Ajax Coal mine but we were there during the week so there were closed. There is also a beach and a second pond for Paddel boards. Last thing is the facilities where supper clean big shout out for being on top of everything even the foliage looks well taken care of. We have to come back. Highly recommended checking this place out such a hidden Gem 💎

What a beautiful place, a hidden gem near Medicine Hat! Nice and clean swim lake, attractive boat lake for your activities and really enough space to find your own oasis in the shade of an old tree or in the sun. Large picnic site, you even can do your own bbq there! Or get something to chew at the concession. It's delicious, fast and the girls and boys there are super friendly! I was impressed by the wonderful environment of surrounding prairie and the Saskatchewan River! This park is unique, one has to experience the beauty and comfort there! Spent every day of my second week of my holiday there, unforgettable impressions!

Fantastic facility. Beach was nice, water was not too cold. Clean changing room & bathroom facilities. A great way to get some sun & stay cool in the arid prairie city of Medicine Hat!

What a great place to go if you want to be near a beach to swim, paddle board, or kayak! Close enough to Medicine Hat that it only takes 15 minutes to drive there. Lifeguards are there in the summer and there are usually lots of Geese around.

Great family park. Even gave extra swim stuff if you forgot to bring flotation devices. Just beautiful. We tramped the museum which was incredibly well set up.

Well kept park. I went birding there and saw a wide variety of birds. A few good geocaches as well!

Great museum about Canadian history! If you want to feel like you're in the 1800s and 1900s, this is the place for you. This museum is like a time machine. Very interesting place!

A pleasant surprise. I would highly recommend this museum. It was bigger than I expected, and the displays are exceptional. There is a self guided tour book available. The signage throughout is informative. We had a little one with us, and she enjoyed a scavenger hunt sheet provided. It was a great idea as she had something to look for in each display area. We ended our visit with homemade pie and ice cream. A hidden gem and well worth the visit!

This museum and its staff is one of the most amazing secret treasures. We walked in out of the pouring rain because we saw what we thought was a much needed gas station. We walked in the doors to the sight of stools at an ice cream parlour style counter with smiling people. Before we even got started, we had coffee, pie and conversation with folks that made us feel like friends. This is an amazing little museum with a church, gas station and a main building with rooms of musical instruments, school house, animals and replicas of family rooms. Out back of the building is the most amazing collection of engines and windmills. All of this is in a setting where you can get up close to see the items. In various rooms you can scroll through computerized documents about what you are seeing. Don’t just drive by this little blink of a tiny town. Drop in and be amazed by the museum and say hi to the wonderful people who made the experience extraordinary. Thanks folks.

We decided to stop off at Etzikon to see the Windmill Museum. We didn’t know that there is another museum inside the old school right beside all the windmills. Also on site is a church to look at and a garage. So if you are planning on just looking at windmills forget so much more to see. They also have fresh pies and ice cream. Reasonable price and we took a couple of hours but worth it.

The Etzikom Museum is a very worthwhile place to visit - amazing museum for this small town and a great collection of windmills and farm machinery from yesteryear. The museum features a variety of artificats from the area including a doll collection and several themed rooms and display cases. Pie and ice cream are available. The museum was a cool retreat on a very hot day, and teh walk around the outside displays was amazing (and available to peruse if the museum is closed.

Surprisingly large museum in an old school, very well cared for and curated. Kids happily spent over an hour filling out workbooks. Nice staff and good pie. Windmills were interesting too

Worth the trip. Wide range of exhibits to view inside and outside on the property. Impressive for such a small community.

Couldn’t go inside as they were closed. But we walked around and checked out the artifacts. Super cool find randomly off the side of the highway.

Nature & Parks
Dinosaur Provincial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Alberta, is a sprawling park known for its abundance of dinosaur fossils and diverse wildlife. The park offers campsites with stunning vistas and opportunities for fossil casting classes, dinosaur digs, and family programming at the Visitors Centre. With over 58 different dinosaur species' fossils discovered here, including more than 500 specimens displayed in museums worldwide, it's a must-visit destination for paleontology enthusiasts.
One of my favourite campgrounds to visit is the Dinosaur Provincial Park in the badlands of Alberta. It’s an eerie yet fascinating environment where you can explore the many trails throughout the park and view hoodoos amongst the hills and valleys while imagining the prehistoric creatures that roamed through the very same landscape that you are camped at. Definitely worth the visit.

This is an amazing park to visit. The camping is great. It's family-friendly with a playground as well. There are on-site showers, and the bathrooms are all recently renovated and clean. The views and surroundings are like nowhere else in Alberta. Such a gorgeous place.

This is an amazing provincial park, a must visit! The views are stunning, and the hikes are out of this world! The parking is free of charge as well is the entrance to the park. The main building has a restaurant and a very small convenience store. There are washrooms on location and showers (camping).
Gerry G — Google review
Nice place for a day trip if you like a history and want to know about dinosaurs. You can do camping here. Nice restaurants offered good food options. Approximately 3 km circle drive will cover the park and there is a multiple trails with easier to hard you can do in between if you want to explore little bit more. Avoid during rainy day or season.
Kirtikumar C — Google review
Amazing experience and well worth the visit. The guided tour starting at fossil display one was a great learning experience. 3 hours hike in the badlands to a dinosaur bone bed. Our guide Andre was both entertaining and a dinosaur walking encyclopedia. Highly recommended. The campground was comfortable, and all facilities well maintained

Once in a lifetime experience! Definitely worth the detour. Not busy in May. The campground wasn’t open yet, but still a nice hike along the trails. Great views and photoshoot opportunities. Bring lots of sunscreens and water.

Stayed 3 nights. Amazing views all over the park. Trails were great. Outhouses are located near camp sites and are well lit. Service centre is fantastic. Nice little bistro serving all sorts of delicious as well as needed pantry items. Showers are very clean cost of $1 for 2 minutes. Laundry room is clean $2 each machine. Visitor centre is lovely, gift shop is nicely stocked. Doggo friendly, keep furry friend leashed and clean up after them. * atm machine is located in the service centre but must get coins from visitor centre.

Such an amazing place! Definitely recommend the trip out. The views are phenomenal, and the guided tours at the interpretive center are worth it 100% (our group had Dustin; he's fantastic, and has such great energy!) I'll definitely be taking my family back here for more camping 😁

Tillebrook Provincial Park is a hidden gem for those seeking a peaceful camping experience near the popular Dinosaur Provincial Park. Located just 42 km away from the dinosaur site and only 21 km from Kinbrook Island's sandy beach, it serves as an excellent alternative when other campgrounds are fully booked. The park boasts well-maintained facilities, including free warm showers, making it ideal for travelers on business trips or families looking to unwind.
I haven’t stayed yet but did drive through and spent time at the day use area. It looks very well maintained and good decent sized sites for how many there are! I’m planning on this place next camping season 100% Day use area was great to stop for a place to have lunch outside the car, quite and clean! Pictures are of the day area and how big the spaces are. Wish I would have caught a shot of the owl swooping in to have some of our lunch also! 😉

Third time in this campground. I picked this campground knowing they have showers and it's right by the highway. Iwas on a business trip and needed the shower after a long drive and an important appointment in Calgary next day. I will give it 4 starts only, because despite being a sign in the bathroom for the maintance hours (9-10am), I got up early in the morning to avoid the showers being closed. Guess what, at 8:10am they were closed for maintance. I get it, they were doing their job, but it ruined my change to shower before my appoiment. So the main reason I paid for the campground (the showers) i couldn't use and had to stop a random gas station to take a shower in a disgusting bathroom before heading to Calgary. Overall nice campground, just sucks I paid for an ammenity I couldn't use.

Lovely campground. Our first choice would have been to stay at dinosaur provincial park, but it was full. We booked here and after five days of camping, I think it was the better choice. The campground is clean and well maintained. It was Canada Day long weekend and everyone was respectfully enjoying their weekend. No issues with noise. There is a camp ground host. There is a playground for the kids. Volley ball net and baseball diamond. Campsites are large with trees to hang hammocks Fire wood was available to purchase at the check-in desk Would stay here again

Clean, well taken care campground. We camped mid week in the summer, it was pretty quiet. Washrooms very clean. Showers were hot and clean.
Kim P — Google review
Park was clean staff was friendly most of the site are treed and a reasonable size. Showers are free and warm. That being said we were tenting and felt that this one is a little too close to the highway and train tracks. The lights from Brooks kind of ruins the camping ambience. Park seemed well suited for RVs (not great for tents)

The Brooks Aqueduct is a remarkable piece of engineering that dates back to 1914, constructed by the Canadian Pacific Railway as part of an extensive irrigation system for the prairies. Today, it stands as both a national and provincial historic site, celebrating the ingenuity of its time. Once vital for delivering water to farmers' crops, this large aqueduct now serves as a testament to Alberta's agricultural history.
Large aqueduct, fenced off. Saw a red fox, blackbirds, and coots. There is a small wetland along the path, teeming with waterfowl and wetland birds. Beautiful stop. Aqueduct open 24/7 but washrooms closed until sometime in May

Loved seeing this piece of Sputhern Alberta history. The signs were great with lots of helpful and interesting information. My 6 year old loved seeing the aqueduct and trying to figure out how it would have worked. It's a fairly quick visit or you can of course spend longer if you want to walk down its length. Standing by the one end is helpful for scale for kids in particular.

Great place to visit and take some time to appreciate the hard work that went into this structure over a century ago.

A really fascinating site. There's quite a number of display signs, and you can walk down to the siphon which is particularly interesting. In total maybe about 15 or 20 minutes at the site. I didn't give it five stars because whoever is the caretaker doesn't do a great job, there are leaves and branches everywhere, the signs are old and faded.

Kinbrook Island Provincial Park is a hidden gem located on an island in Lake Newell, Alberta. The park offers a variety of activities such as swimming, boating, camping, and birdwatching. It boasts one of the best beaches in the province and provides well-maintained facilities including showers and flush toilets. Visitors can enjoy the serene surroundings and may even be treated to a stunning northern lights show at night.
Wonderful break from driving, beautiful marsh/prairie walk. Saw numerous birds and thousands of grasshoppers. So many different kinds! Good facilities and lots of parking.

A first visit to this spectacular park..Oct 4-6 2024. Camped for two nights and spent the days walking trails and taking photos. My only minor complaint is the condition of the coin operated showers. They definitely need to be upgraded
Hpdz52 — Google review
A better Alberta Provincial Park. Many amenities to comfort most campers. Walk or bike the pathways around the marsh area, have a beach day, or go boating or fishing. There's lots to do. They have showers, many washrooms and pit toilets, and do a good job with maintenance.
Aaron — Google review
Beautiful campground, the sites are huge and all have 30 amp power. No water hookups though so make sure you fill your tank coming in. Awesome trails through the marshland areas.
Allan D — Google review
Kinbrook is our families favourite provincial park.. we’ve stayed in loop G and F. Both sites had nice big trees for sun and wind protection. The beach is great but can be busy as it’s also public. So get there early, and grab your spot. The dump station is good, two sides, but can easily get backed up on a Sunday.
Sean M — Google review
First time here at the end of the summer and we were impressed, with what the campground had to offer. We had a site with the older well established grounds/trees so great shade and privacy. Lots of trails and paths to adventure on for families. Beautiful views around on the island and a few spots to go swimming. Water is quite warm too. Only thing to know, is that it can get tremendously windy at times so prepare for the right attire to wear. Outside of how windy it was, everything else was well enjoyed and clean grounds. And if you need anything, there's a Walmart/grocery stores in Brooks, which is about 15 mins drive away.
Nicole R — Google review
This is truly a great campground! We've been here a couple of times and it has been wonderful. It can get windy at times and cell coverage isn't great but overall it is great. The entire campground is irrigated so fire bans don't seem to be an issue. The beach is good, lots of sand and the water isn't too deep. There's also a couple good places to fish off the shore right in the park. Great place to bring the kids and have a really wonderful time!
Ryan H — Google review
We did some camping here over 2 nights with trailer units, some sites are definitely not as private as others. I’d say the ‘C’ campground area has most privacy, that is where we camped anyway and was really good. The group use areas seemed a little bit abandoned, maybe it was because it is a bit later in the year now already. Park has a concession (which was closed during our stay) but I’ve heard it is really good, also there is a building with showers and real toilets, and sinks… showers are one dollar for two minutes. Firewood for sale at the registration shack. Some renovations going on a bit east of the beach. Beach is nice and clean, nice and clear water even when the water is low. Boat launch was closed due to low water levels at this time of year which was a bit sad but lots of parking for truck/boat trailers, definitely will be coming here with my boat next year. overall we had a really good experience here, not sure how some of the other campsite areas would be, but for me I sure do hope to come back here many time in the summers to come.

Little Fish Lake Provincial Park

Little Fish Lake Provincial Park is a shallow body of water with some algae, but it offers a pleasant environment for swimming and walking. The local community has made efforts to create a comfortable atmosphere at the camping site, which includes a delightful playground for children. The area is enhanced by nearby residents who own properties near the lake. While it may not be ideal for those seeking beach or water activities, it serves as a habitat for waterfowl and fish.
The lake is shallow and with a little algae, but it was so nice to swim and walk around there. The camping site is decorated by the local community to create a cozy atmosphere. There is a nice playground for children. The whole area is ennobled by residents who own a combo by the lake

It depends what you are looking for...this could be heaven for those who want quiet, simple and out of the way spot. It is the simplest provincial park I have ever been to. It has a small- maybe 5 campsites? A handful of picnic tables and a swing set with 2 swings. Outhouses on site, I suspect they had running water with size but not positive. There was a water pump on site. There is a lake that would be fun with a small boat. I did see a primitive boat launch area. Small "beach" area with small, nearly sand pebbles. If you want a park with more amenities or just more, this is not for you. It was a fun find for us on a warm & windy day but I would only go back if it was a need to be in a rustic and primitive place.

Although a little bit out-of-the-way, this is an amazing spot to come camping, the campground was amazingly clean, well-kept, and very quiet, even on the long weekend, I would highly recommend this for anyone that likes camping in a nice spot , limited cell service
Chris B — Google review
Well it was 45 min on a dirt rd... pretty sure my shocks are done now... than there's a sign near the boat launch that says. Your not allowed on the beach cause migratory birds nest there, can't go in the water for something else, pretty much no reason to be there.

Very beautiful little campground. The lake is nasty as heck, but if you're just looking for a quiet place to camp and hang out, it's nice

The Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site, located in the Red Deer River Valley, is a well-preserved 1930s coal mine that offers guided tours and a train ride. It is situated about 22 kilometers south of Drumheller and is known for being the best-preserved coal mining site in Canada.
We did the self guided tour. Spent about an hour on the site. It's in wonderful condition. I would have liked to do one of the tours, but it was such a hot day, I wasn't up to the climb to the top. Would definitely recommend visiting.
Shelagh R — Google review
Fascinating site, but very surface-level information given in tour. We (two adults) enjoyed the site, though found the Mine Portal Hike to be underwhelming and a very sanitized/basic level of information. I was hoping for more of a "historical documentary" level of knowledge, but the content seemed was appropriate for school children. Don't get me wrong, the tour guide was perky & enthusiastic, and it's not her fault the script was lacking. The tour -previously- included a much longer walk through the coal chute, but unfortunately part of the tunnel has collapsed.
Kate F — Google review
The Tipple and Mine tours were amazing! The tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. The historic site has a lot of artifacts on the mining history of the area. Great place to go for the day if you are doing multiple guided tours.

Take a guided tour!!!!! You're already here, so get the most out of it. Ashley is a fabulous tour guide. He is super knowledgeable and his love of the stories of the people is evident in how he shares them. The hardhat is unnecessary, but adds some flair to the experience. We found lots of boards explaining the various buildings and machinery. Buying tickets in advance will save you some time!!! Also makes sure you get the time you prefer.

We had a fantastic visit on our way through! A must see along the Hoodoo Trail! We took the Mine Tunnel Hike Tour and our guide Mary was awesome! They answered all our questions and really knew their history! Wished we had had more time to do the other guided tours as well but make sure if Bob is there you stop to learn from him! Such a wonderful gem in the valley we learned so much! We did not buy tickets in advance - got there right at 10 - but would recommend buying in advance if you know you are coming and want to book a specific time for a specific tour - we got lucky and grabbed the last two spots on the mine hike!

The East Coulee School Museum, located at 320 Railway Ave E in Drumheller, is a restored schoolhouse from the 1930s that offers a glimpse into the region's coal mining past. The museum features various exhibits and hands-on activities within its historic 12-classroom setting. Visitors can explore different rooms showcasing a 1930s classroom, a coal miner's shack, a fossil room, and more.
This is a very interesting museum that offers a fascinating look at the region's coal mining history, the community that grew around it, and former school that was closed in the 1970s as the town's population dwindled. (After the remaining community came together to fix the school, it reopened as a museum in 1985). It's definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Wow! What a truly memorable experience at the East Coulee School Museum. We had our 2 cats in their carriers , so it was great that they allowed us inside with them. This place is a hidden gem, if you are in the Drumheller area. There is so much history in this one place. The classrooms with true stories in those books on the desks , are a grim reminder of what life used to be. The staff mentioned that there have been spooky experiences , but none of them are harmful. We were denied entry at the Atlas Coal mine because of our fur babies and that’s how we found this museum. And we are so glad we did. They also have a cute cafe and a lovely gift shop attached. Here are some pictures of our experience.

The manager Cindy helped me so much with researching my family history in East Coulee. It was amazing that she found my grandfathers attendance records from 1945! The museum has a lot of local history and the staff are very welcoming! I am so happy I got to walk the same halls my Grandpa did as a kid. This is an excellent museum with a lot of artifacts that showcase the rich history of East Coulee! Thank you so much Cindy, my family are amazed at the history you helped me find.

Very cool place that gives you a glimpse of an bygone era. I played a 100+ year old piano and my kids were able to use a typewriter and even keep the paper that they typed random stuff on. I also perused a book from the late 1800s that one of the staff brought out to me and read another school book from 1921.

Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park

Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park, located about 110 kilometers east of Calgary, is a significant site where five First Nations signed Treaty 7 with Canadian commissioners in September 1877. The park features an impressive interpretive center with giant glass eagle feathers at the entrance and offers guided tours that provide riveting stories about the treaty signing. Visitors can explore the rich history of the area through its beautiful trails and paths while enjoying delicious food at the on-site restaurant.
A huge, well-kept museum in a stunning land with very friendly staff. From the moment you arrive at Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park, it’s clear this place is more than a museum it’s the beating heart of the Siksika Nation. First, you will be guided to a theatre to watch a half-hour documentary movie about the tipis and storytelling. Beside the Bow River, the beautifully designed, eco-friendly interpretive centre stands in the very spot where Treaty 7 was signed in 1877, a historic moment expertly brought to life. Inside, the 62,000 sq ft museum is a masterful blend of interactive displays, artifacts, and storytelling. The exhibits on Chief Crowfoot featuring his repatriated regalia and the vivid theatre presentations are poignant and powerful. I was particularly moved by the banner of Chief Crowfoot’s leadership and the display recounting the historic negotiations of Treaty 7 alongside other Blackfoot Confederacy leaders. You can book the Tipi Village experience sleeping in a buffalo-hide tipi, learning ancestral skills and connecting with the land unforgettably. The day we visited, the cafeteria was closed due to construction. There is a store where you can shop Indigenous handicrafts.
Sepideh K — Google review
We enjoyed the history as told by the members of the Blackfoot nation. If you go be courteous and respectful and do not take photos of the downstairs artifacts. It was sad to see so many people ignoring that request. Set aside time to take the 5.5 k west hike. It is not a loop so be aware it's 5.5 k each way. Take water, sun screen, and bug spray. Each station is historic and the views are beautiful. You will need to go further than 5.5 k trail if you want to pay your respects at Chief Crowfoots grave. Turn to the right at the end of the trail to find the dirt road that takes you through an open gate and up the hill to the graveyard that is still in use.
Sandra C — Google review
Visiting Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park was an unforgettable experience. The grounds themselves are beautiful, but even more so is the deep cultural significance of the location—it feels like a living connection to the land and history of the Siksika Nation and was the site for the signing of Treaty 7. The lower-level museum area was absolutely stunning and so thoughtfully put together. The exhibits are both informative and immersive, giving a real insight into the traditional way of life of the Siksika people. The building itself is architecturally stunning, blending seamlessly with the natural landscape. I also really enjoyed the nature walk led by Letty, who guided us through local flora identification while sharing cultural knowledge about the traditional uses of these plants. It was a perfect way to connect nature with history. A highlight of the visit was listening to Robin Bigsnake, a knowledge-keeper, who shared oral histories of the Blackfoot/Siksika. His storytelling brought the history and traditions to life in such a meaningful way. Overall, Blackfoot Crossing is not just a museum, but a truly enriching cultural experience that left me with a deeper appreciation for the history, traditions, and resilience of the Siksika people. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for both beauty and knowledge.

Great museum! I’m really glad that I went there. Learned a lot new about the native culture which I didn’t know before. There’s a theatre where you could watch a video before you start exploring everything. Downstairs there a museum, with lots of realistic stuff. This place is well cleaned and organised. There’s a cafeteria, not sure about the prices of the food, but it shouldn’t be that expensive. The washrooms are really clean and nice. You can go down to the woods, to see how the Native lived and build their homes. There’s a clear path, easy to access. Overall recommend visiting.

Everybody should come check this place out. Great museum with so much history, knowledge and artifacts. There are even walking trails to various sites. So glad we stopped by.

I had an incredible visit to Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park. The museum is beautifully designed and shares the deep history, traditions, and culture of the Siksika Nation in such a powerful and moving way. Walking through the exhibits, I gained a much greater appreciation for the resilience and strength of the Blackfoot people, as well as the significance of this site where Treaty 7 was signed. The staff were so welcoming, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing their stories. I would like to shout out our Interpretive guide Lita. The building itself is stunning, blending into the landscape, and the view over the valley is breathtaking. This is truly a place every Canadian should visit to learn, reflect, and connect with Indigenous history. I left feeling grateful and inspired, and I will definitely be back.

We are so glad we stopped to experience the museum and meet the friendly, knowledgable staff. We happened to be there during a special event, it was very educational.

my family and I had a wonderful experience at Blackfoot Crossing today! we experienced wonderful hospitality, and a delicious bannock burger. the chicken dance and jingle dances were exceptional and the little dancer stole the show. We truly enjoyed the storytelling from Grant Many Heads. we will be back- hopefully for powwow!
