Fun & Games
Ontree Park in Windsor, Nova Scotia offers an exhilarating treetop adventure with 18 courses featuring rope courses, climbing walls, and ziplines. Visitors can conquer their fear of heights while enjoying high rope walking and zip-lining activities. The park provides a thrilling experience for adventurous groups seeking an adrenaline fix. Guests can admire the fall foliage from the trees and enjoy challenging courses while being supervised by a helpful team ensuring safety throughout the experience.
OnTree has been a staple every summer for the last few years, and it has always been a phenomenal experience each and every time I've gone. My partner and I decided to go last week as he had never been there before but had been wanting to go for a long time, and as always, it was a fantastic experience! We actually ended up buying season passes, as buying one this late into the season not only gives you the last two months of the current season but also gives you the entire next season! Not only that, but going this late into the season means minimal waiting time on the courses due to fewer people having the time to venture out that way, as well as cooler weather to climb in. The owner is almost always present, he is one of the friendliest people you'll have the opportunity to meet, and his team are some of the sweetest people to ever rescue you (if need be). I honestly can't say enough about how well run, how well maintained, and how much fun this place is - thank you so much for continuing to bring fun and challenging courses to us every year! • Course 19 is the most challenging of the Medium/Hard (blue/red) courses and does require a lot of upper body strength at the beginning of the course. If you look directly above you when you are near where you end your initial training, you'll see why - with two longer metal poles to walk across on each end, its the three hangman knoose in the middle that will drain your strength as it can be hard to get your foot out of one while trying to get to the next, and the next is always moving while you're attempting to get your foot into the loop. • Course 13 is the course with the four to five hanging X's suspended high in the air, they are each suspended at their points and they move incredibly easily as you're trying to move from one to the other. • Course 14 is the one you want if you want the high zip line, and a lot of zipline. • Black diamond 7 does not count towards being able to access the double black diamond (course 4) and it does get easier after you get past the first three obstacles. • Black diamonds 6 and 8 MUST be completed in the same visit in order to be able to access the double black diamond (course 4) and the double black diamond has something like a 96.6% fail rate with how challenging it is after having already completed the other two black diamonds required to unlock it. 🌲🍂🧡

Took family here. Amazing place and great staff! The easy courses were perfect blend of thrills and simple obstacles for first timers. And the smaller courses were just enough for our 8 yr old who didn't want to go up too high. Highly recommend to anyone
Marc P — Google review
This was our first time at ontree, The courses and the activities in themselves exceeded our expectations and we would love to come back to enjoy the courses again, however I have to mention the unorthodox behaviour from one of the staff members I noticed while walking through the park. I understand how important it is to make sure all of the guests are using the equipment in a manner that both keeps them and everyone else around them safe, and in our training, this is explained to us. If someone is spotted incorrectly doing something we get an orange helmet, if we do something again we get removed from the park. On numerous occasions, I heard this staff member being unnecessarily rude to climbers, more notably, children. If he noticed someone doing something incorrectly, instead of explaining to you how to correctly do it, his first response was to try and make a witty comment trying to indicate that you’re just “stupid”. We seen him walk up to a group of young girls and ask them if they’ve ever been taught how to read, as the group of them didn’t notice a small sign beside them. Instead of pointing out the sign, he continued on with them just being stupid and not being able to read or understand. The comments are completely unnecessary, as a staff member and a trainer. This is absolutely not the way to go about safety. You can absolutely explain to them that they’re in the wrong and tell them what they should be doing without degrading them, and as per the park rules if it happens again, remove them from the park. It was extremely disheartening to see how confused, distraught and upset The young girls were during the interaction. Hearing these interactions as we walked through the park definitely changed the experience for us. It’s really not that hard to be kind and helpful, even if someone’s doing something wrong, you can let them know in a better manner.

Ontree is a must for our family at least once a year! It is a gorgeous area, lots of beautiful big trees and obstacles are both fun and sometimes challenging. Ziplines are so much fun! It is a great time to have kids outside, thinking about clearing the obstacles while everyone is safe with the extra safety precautions. Staff is always helpful, and knowledgeable.
Chantal G — Google review
Absolutely love coming here! It’s super fun and the staff are incredible. We make a point to go at least once a year, if you’re looking for an active and challenging adventure this is the place to go. Anyone who has left a bad review obviously didn’t read the rules, pay attention or are simply not fit enough for the activity.
Mike H — Google review
Amazing place! The easy courses were just enough of a blend of thrills and simple obstacles for first timers. And there were lower courses for my 8yr old who didn't want to go up high. Staff was friendly and very helpful whenever you got stuck. Highly recommend

It's a cable walking climbing with zip lines are the end of each course

Amazing fun day! Kids had a blast! Owners were very friendly, staff seemed to have had ESP, and would show up on their quads the second we needed somebody. Never felt unsafe at any point. Well worth the money! Exercise and the outdoors, wonderful way to spend a day. 3 hours was plenty of time. You are tired and hungry by the end of it and ready to leave. Bring lots of water in a cooler with ice.

We stopped in as part of a tour from our cruise ship. Very good products, family owned and locally sourced ingredients. Blueberry gelato was excellent as was the maple whisky and blueberry maple jam. Taking a small bag home with us.
David B — Google review
A small shop dedicated to various maple syrup related goods. Syrup, butter, candies, some alcohol. Quite an interesting place with relatively normal prices.
Alexandr O — Google review
Great shop stop on our vacay. Ordered some items to be shipped home. Can't wait to get them. TRIED calling to get shipping info but no answer at the shop.
Russell D — Google review
Do NOT order from their online store and pay for express shipping it took us 16 days to get our express order. I am only 2 hours from their location so by paying for 2 day shipping I expected prompt service. No apology or explanation and refusal to cancel our order when we hadn’t received the order prior to the trip we were taking which the syrup was indented as gifts at our destination. They have refused to communicate any further with us.
Elaine S — Google review
It was my first time visiting this store, and I drove from Halifax to go to it. They had many Maple Syrup products and other things. Quality was good, and prices were a little high.

Stopped by on a road trip to Nova Scotia. We love the maple walnut coffee beans for at-home coffee! Staff also recommend to try the maple crunch cookie and to-go coffee, which were great options on the road around Halifax and the southern shore. Will come back again once it’s safe to.

The Halifax Public Gardens are absolutely beautiful! The variety of flowers, the colorful landscapes, and the well-kept walking paths make it such a relaxing place to visit. I loved the mix of history, nature, and charm—you can really take your time strolling around and enjoying the peaceful environment. It’s the perfect spot to unwind, take photos, or just sit and enjoy the scenery. A true gem in the middle of the city!

Amazing experience among the fall leaf colors and perfect weather. The public gardens are exceptional given Halifax’s size, and well worth the visit. While the dahlia garden was a highlight, the entire grounds and even the little coffee shop were all very pleasant to walk around and check out. Highly, highly recommend a stroll through the gardens when you’re in downtown Halifax.

A Peaceful Oasis in the Heart of the Halifax. This public garden is truly a hidden gem! The landscaping is beautifully done with vibrant flowers, shady trees, and well-kept paths that make walking around a pleasure. It’s a perfect spot to unwind, enjoy a quiet moment, or take photos. There are plenty of benches, clean washrooms, and even areas for kids to explore safely. I loved how peaceful and clean everything was—clearly very well cared for. A must-visit if you’re looking for a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle!

Another gorgeous Halifax spot. This garden is right in the center of downtown, and is quite big. Very well maintained, great for a walk on a nice sunny day. Wildlife is mostly ducks.
Roy L — Google review
Beautiful free public park with public restrooms. Great spot for engagement, wedding, and grad photos. There are ties and dedications to various kings and queens. There are many different spots to sit and enjoy the beauty around you. There are benches, lakes, fountains, and plenty of green lawn space. Worth a visit when you are in town for a nice stroll or maybe even picnic.
Shula R — Google review
Beautiful gardens within the city. Very nicely maintained gardens with a variety of different plants, flowers, and trees. Several different small ponds with wandering paths through the grounds. They had a special exhibit of dahlia flowers with multiple varieties planted and a few informational signs posted about the dahlias. The best part was that there was a coffee shop/cafe within the garden grounds and public restroom facilities.
Jon F — Google review
Lovely lovely gardens for a walk or coffee or just to sit for a bit. The Victorian style makes for a more unique stroll than your standard park—definitely worth a visit. Free music at the bandstand some afternoons/evenings too!

Thoroughly enjoyed this visit. We parked at the bottom of the hill that it was situated on only to realize that we could have driven to the top lol! The tour guides were very informative and welcomed any questions. It was interesting for both children and adults. A definite must see on the east coast that took the majority of the day to see properly. French tour guides were also available.

Perched atop a hill overlooking downtown Halifax, the star-shaped fortress offers incredible panoramic views of the city and harbour. Walking through its well-preserved walls and ramparts, you can explore the museums, military exhibits, and the daily routines of soldiers from the 18th and 19th centuries. The changing of the guard ceremony is a highlight, showcasing tradition and discipline in a captivating way. Every corner of the Citadel tells a story, from its strategic importance in defending the city to the fascinating artifacts on display, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts, families, and anyone looking to connect with Halifax’s rich heritage.

A Truly Unforgettable Experience at Halifax Citadel! Visiting the Halifax Citadel Historic Site was is indeed memorable one! From the moment we entered, we were amazed by how beautifully the place is preserved and how welcoming the staff were. The soldiers in their traditional uniforms made us feel like we were stepping back in time — it was such a unique and memorable experience. We loved exploring the old fort, walking through the tunnels, and learning about the history behind it all. The noon gun firing was incredible to witness — it gave us goosebumps! The view of the city and harbour from the top is absolutely stunning, especially on a clear day. It was a great educational and family-friendly experience. We left with a deeper appreciation for Canada’s history and so many beautiful memories. I highly recommend visiting the Halifax Citadel if you’re in the area — it’s definitely worth your time!

The Halifax Citadel National Historic Site is a fascinating place full of history and character. The old fortress is very well preserved, and the staff in period uniforms make the experience even more immersive. You can explore the walls, tunnels, and museum exhibits that tell the story of Halifax’s military past. The view from the top of the hill is also beautiful — you can see the whole city and harbor. It’s definitely worth visiting if you’re interested in history or just want a great panoramic view of Halifax!
Chaesung P — Google review
Fascinating historic site with great views and a well-preserved fort. The World War museum on the second floor is especially interesting — full of artifacts, stories, and a well-done exhibition. A great piece of history and a must-visit spot to learn more about Halifax’s past while enjoying the scenery.
Nate M — Google review
A very nice historical site to spend an afternoon wandering around and soaking up history. A number of historical actors dressed in period costume are more than willing to answer questions and let you what life was like back in the 1800's. They fire the noon day gun, and fire off the random musket to keep things interesting.
Kenny L — Google review
The Citadel is a must visit for anyone at Halifax. There are many guided tours suited for groups of all types. I would recommend the one by the Soldier's Wife that starts around 11am and ends with the noon Cannon firing. It was informative, engaging and fun. Enjoy.

We rode the e bikes up the hill and around the citadel. It was a very cool way to see the city from a high viewpoint 360° viewing all the way around as the road makes you do a big circle, super cool place to visit, you can walk. You can bike, you can drive. You can sit on the hill and take in the sunset. Super cool Place in the city.

I live this library, clean, quiet, comfortable, ambient environment in the top floor sitting area with amazing view overlooking the city and surrounding areas. Great place to spend a day reading and relaxing.

Halifax Central Library was amazing!! It’s very modern, spacious, bright, organized and they have variety of spaces for different purposes. They even have a cafe at the ground and top floor and they also have an open patio roof top. I was blown away while visiting this place. The amenities and design was outstanding!

Beautiful library with excellent natural lighting. Acoustics are perfect for studying with a wide range of breakout spaces for different group work. It also has a small rooftop terrace and garden with panoramic views of the city and waterfront.
A S — Google review
Lovely atmosphere. A lot of children, making noise, on Sunday afternoon, but some portion is dedicated as quiet area so it is convenient to read quietly. I did feel a bit of limitation in the collection, especially study books but lots of novel and children books are available. The exciting part was to find the multicultural books, in local languages.
Anu Y — Google review
We passed by for their leaning plank off the building, but was met with amazing internal stair cases within. There were ample viewing platforms on the roof overlooking the city. There were many sections to visit for different book styles and open areas to read. Would love if more cities took on this opportunity.
Kin — Google review
I love going to this library to study, do coursework, hangout with friends, and of course, look for any books that catch my eye. The building itself is beautiful; it has a great view with lots of space and so many books to choose from! I love coming here anytime I need to catch up on homework and even just to sit down with a coffee to read for a bit. It’s both relaxing and has a gorgeous view from the higher up floors. Even at certain times when the library may start to get a bit busy/loud, I just simply move to another area or a different floor and then it’s perfectly fine. I highly recommend coming here to anyone, whether for books or for other uses like studying!

Beautifully designed buulding with perfectly arranged study and reading areas. Great city views and comfy seating. Cafe was closed when I visited.

Best place to work around Halifax for free wifi and space, with plugs and closed semi closed cubicles as well. If you are a gamer just get your steam id or Roblox and play hardcore games. get some bottle for water (cups at main). I did build a saas-application sitting at this table. So basically a very good space to think and work productively.

Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

Maritime museum
Museums
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is a large museum featuring exhibits on boatbuilding, shipwrecks, and naval history. It also houses a historic vessel. One of its main attractions is the artifacts and stories related to the Titanic, including details about the marine disaster and its connection to Halifax. Visitors can learn intriguing facts from knowledgeable guides, such as how the Titanic's speed record attempt contributed to its sinking.
Nice museum, and an important stop for understanding life in Halifax, especially its deep connection to maritime culture. It features a nice collection of historical artifacts, a fair amount of informative displays, and a few pieces related to the Titanic. But what I personally loved the most was the collection of scale model ships — a long-lost craft. They are beautifully made and brought back so many childhood memories of wandering around similar displays back home. If you have the time, it’s a lovely spot for a short break in your day.
Chef P — Google review
Great museum with some interesting topics for people coming from abroad as well. Like information on the Titanic. We went on a Tuesday, we didn’t know, but then entrance is free. At the time we walked in a free guided tour was starting. The ideal to quickly explore some highlights as we were short on time. To fully visit you should reserve at least 2-3 hours.
Matthias T — Google review
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is located in a very convenient spot, just a short walk from Downtown. The opening hours are also quite reasonable. Inside, you’ll find a variety of exhibits showcasing the history of sailing, with models of ships from different eras, along with informative displays. It’s a very educational experience. I specifically went to see the Titanic exhibit, and although there weren’t as many physical items related to Titanic as I expected, the information and records were still interesting and insightful. Apart from that, there are also beautiful displays of various sailing ships and modern steamships. It’s a great place to bring kids as they can learn a lot about the development of maritime history. The ticket price is also quite reasonable. Highly recommended!
Lin Z — Google review
The location of this museum is very good, next to the port. In addition to the regular maritime exhibitions, there are also historical materials and exhibits about the Titanic. Looking at those exhibits, my heart is full of sadness. There are ticket discounts for people of different ages and identities. It is recommended to come and visit.
Anqi Y — Google review
I loved walking through the museum seeing all the history of boats. I experienced an interesting nausea when entering into the Titanic display. I want the only one to experience it too. It didn't l last but I'll definitely go back because there's something there.
Heidi W — Google review
This museum is very well done with exhibits about the Titanic disaster and the Mont Blanc explosion of 1917. There are scale models of many vessels and something that would appeal to almost everybody. Certainly everybody with any maritime curiosity. Worth the time.
Scott H — Google review
As a fan of maritime history and Titanic I was expecting a lot coming into this museum. I would say I was both pleasantly surprised but also let down at the same time. The first floor is filled with history on a multitude of different Nova Scotian maritime history, from the Halifax explosion, to the Canadian Navy, and a very nice cultural piece on First Nation history. This is also where I feel there could be improvement, the hall with smaller boats and water craft feels a little under utilized and sparse with artifacts. The second floor is what blew me away, an amazing display of Cunard artifacts and models, hands on models, and the star of the show, the titanic section. Filled with history and artifacts that are rather touching when you read the history behind them. Be prepared to bump shoulder though as this is the busiest part of the museum. Overall this museum is a must see if you are into Titanic or Ocean Liner history, but the first floor leaves a little to be desired.
Random 2 — Google review
Great museum! Many hands-on displays. Guided tours are held frequently throughout the day. We saw one explaining the Halifax explosion hosted by Ella's. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the subject and offered some little known facts too! Definitely recommend this!

Wow! The Halifax waterfront is amazing! Although I was born and spent half my life in this area, I have been living outside of Canada for a number of years. Last Saturday was the first time I spent any significant time on the waterfront. Loved the chairs and hammocks sprinkled throughout the waterfront. So many new beautiful restaurants, shops, art! My cousin and I had the absolute best day/evening acting like a couple of tourists!

Halifax had a vision and they delivered. The boardwalk has abundant adirondacks and even some hammocks to relax and enjoy the waterfront. It is spacious so even though there is a lot of foot traffic it doesn’t feel crowded. There is a playground for the kids. Lots of food options and shops. Fascinating combination of history, industry and leisure. Easily spent the better part of the day here

Amazing spot for a walk if you're around downtown. It was the first time I see a starfish as well there.. They were quite many. There's a couple of cute shops nearby as well to buy souvenirs from.

Nice place to walk and explore, even off-season. Plenty of spots to eat, buy souvenirs, and shop while enjoying the water views. Peaceful atmosphere and great for a relaxing stroll along the harbour.

Surprisingly clean when we were there .. which was morning. So many people out and about enjoying the spaces, food services and little pop-up kiosks. Beautiful artworks dotted the way. Lots of space for kids to play and enjoy. Ample seating. Public washrooms available. I didn't use any so I have no idea how well maintained they are.

The waterfront is such a beautiful and relaxing place to visit. The view of the water is peaceful, and the fresh breeze makes every walk feel refreshing. There are plenty of benches and spots to sit, so you can just take your time and enjoy the scenery. It’s also a great place for photos, especially during sunrise and sunset when the colors on the water look amazing. The walking paths are clean and easy to stroll along, and there are nice cafés and little shops nearby if you want a snack or drink. Whether you come for a jog, a family walk, or just to clear your mind, this place is perfect.

I’m glad there’s a museum like this. For those who had family enter Canada through the Halifax port, I would expect that this museum would be a wonderful connection point and learning experience for them. Mostly European stories were represented here, which I enjoyed learning about, however as a Filipino-Canadian, there wasn’t much representation or storytelling connected to my culture. Happy for those cultures represented but for me, this museum was just okay.

Very impressive museum- a lot of heart and soul went into creating this place I’m sure! I enjoyed looking at all the artifacts and learning about the stories of immigrants throughout the years. The employees were all quite friendly, especially a volunteer who shared some knowledge with us. I think everyone should go to Pier 21 at least once, it will leave you with a new perspective and a better appreciation for the people who left everything to start a new life here.

A meaningful and well-curated experience. Pier 21 is exceptionally well done — the layout is thoughtful, the exhibits are engaging, and the entire space is welcoming and kid-friendly. The staff were attentive, the facilities were clean, and admission was free on Canada Day, which made it even more accessible. As someone with Dutch heritage, I found the experience both eye-opening and deeply moving. It offered powerful insights into the immigrant journey, and I left with a greater appreciation for the courage and resilience of those who came before us.

Fantastic experience of Canada’s immigration history in the mid-20th century. We went with our two kids (13 and 10) and weren’t sure how long they would want to stay. In the end we stayed 2 hours and only left because the museum was closing. The tour was very good and the short documentary very moving. There are so many interactive exhibits and the staff were so helpful.

I love reading about history especially about how my ancestors arrived here by ship. There are guided tours that lasts 20 followed by a 22 minute film. Very interesting. Both my grandparents and my dad immigrated to Canada.
Darlene W — Google review
Museum was interesting but seemed expensive once we got thru the exhibits. There were interesting things to see but felt somewhat limited for the cost of admission. We came to Halifax on a cruise, so we were docked literally right next door. We docked at Pier 22 and the museum is at Pier 21. The buildings share a wall and there is a doorway to access the museum from the cruise poetry shops area. So if you are visiting via cruise ship, the location is excellent.

If you are a descendant of immigrants which most of us are. You will be intrigued. My wife is a 1st generation born in Canada. Her parents' came through this port. The guide tour was very informative. It lasted about 30 minutes. The museum is fairly small but is packed with interesting items and information. They also have an office to track your family lineage.

Burntcoat Head Park, located in the Bay of Fundy, offers a unique dining experience on the ocean floor during low tide. The event includes a foraging excursion, a seafood lunch, and a guided tour of the park. Guests can enjoy a three-course dinner with local wine and beer pairings while watching the tide come in, followed by a campfire on the tidal flats.
A great place. Both for a picnic, when you can make a place for it during the low tide, and also for a simple walk along the bottom of the Bay. And when the tide is in, it's quite interesting to sit and watch the water and drink coffee. It sounds like something boring, but I was interested in watching how the water gradually reclaims all the cracks and stones on the bottom. It takes a lot of time, so if you choose the right time to visit, you can enjoy both low tide and high tide. There is also a small shop in the lighthouse building, where you can also try cookies and apple cider on the floor above. And look at the surrounding places from the top floor, through the windows of the lighthouse. There is a big parking lot for such a small park here too. The only thing I didn't like was the three speed bumps in front of the park. I jokingly told my wife that this would be a good reason not to come here anymore, so as not to experience this inconvenience again (they are very high).

So happy to find this place by chance while on our way to Cape Breton. We spent about 3 hours wandering the place, taking photos and just enjoying the area. When we arrived, it was high tide. About 45 mins later, it was low tide and we were able to walk on the ocean floor. What a great experience! The climb up to the lighthouse was interesting and you will get a 360 view on the place. Definitely worth the stop!

Mesmerizing place! A stroll in ocean bed is worth alongside of flowerpot in Burnt coat during the low tide. We reached early morning when none was around and the tide was to its lowest. Felt in love with giant red blocks, shades of greens, gave a tranquility, the sounds of waves, birds chirps added flavour. However, the Ocean bed was mildly slippery, any anti slippery footwear's would be great to for use. If you are visiting plan based on tides schedule, helps to enjoy both low and high tide. There is a tap and brush nearby stairs to clean the footwear. Restroom, gift shop and lighthouse are operational between 9am to 5pm.

Incredible views. We checked the tide schedule before we left . We got there at the beginning of the six hour window where you can explore the ocean floor. Saw hermit crabs, sea weed lots of shells and scenery was beautiful. Very muddy in parts watch your step!!
Anne A — Google review
One of the best places to see both high and low tides. Ample parking with clean washrooms (9-5). Has a diaper changing table as well! The viewpoint is 2 minutes away from the parking lot. Better take a boot if you are interested to walk on the ocean floor.
Rashed E — Google review
Beautiful place. Very important to wear proper shoes when going down the stairs. There is water to wash shoes off. Benches to sit and enjoy the view, plaques with explanations and informations. Lighthouse can be entered during certain time and climb up. Big gravel parking lot, with designated RV parking. Washrooms available and a little gazebo to sit and enjoy. Lots of green space to have Picknicks. Dog friendly, just keep on leash and clean up after them. Watch the apple trees. As nice as they are apples are falling and “could” maybe hit your head.
Marie — Google review
This place is a gem! A once in a lifetime experience to explore the ocean floor during low tide. We saw lots of tiny shells, sea snails, barnacles and kelp. The trail to the ocean floor is short and very easy to follow. Tips: check out the official tide schedule on the website and come during low tide, pack food and water, and don’t expect to spend too much time in the lighthouse as there is no air circulation and it’s super hot and stuffy at the top. Also bring water shoes.
Gigi Y — Google review
Beautiful views of the changing tides and Bay of Fundy. Recommend getting there at low or mid-low tide when walking is possible on the rocky sea floor. Take care walking as the tides come into the area quickly and could potentially get stranded or cut off from the main stairs to the water.

Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum

The Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum is a captivating destination that offers a journey through the rich history of civilian and military aviation in Canada. Housed in a historic military hangar, the museum showcases an impressive collection of vintage planes, pilot uniforms, wartime relics, and various aviation memorabilia. Visitors can explore cockpit replicas, view old engines, and immerse themselves in the diverse history of aircraft. The museum is particularly appealing to aviation enthusiasts and families with children who have a passion for airplanes.
Relatively small but very good museum. It hasn't a payment entrance, but they have a donation box and it was a pleasure to donate the price they suggest($10/person). And for keeping the place and exhibits in good condition, and for an interesting experience in general. At the beginning they have a room with a lot of models and a souvenir shop. Then you enter their 1st room with some helicopters, one old fighter and different historical exhibits around. Then there is a big hangar with many other helicopters, some fighters and many engine examples. You can enter one old passenger and one military planes to see from inside(on photos). And they have on so called "highlight" of their museum: flight simulator. It was a very good decision to put it here. So I definitely recommend visiting this museum.

What an aviation experience. Welcomed as we walked in, given a quick information about the exhibit/gift shop/toilets and this place was donation only ( 10/person) which honestly still is rather cheap so we donated anyways! The only minus I have which honestly doesn't beat the experience is that is was a warm day and the place is not fully climate controlled so I got a little hot when walking around but in all will not effect rating! Lots of planes and history in here. Worth bringing kids too! Very family friendly area!

Recently came at this museum for a visit. I driven by this place hundreds of times in the last few years and I have always been intrigue. This was by far one of the best and informative museum I have ever done. They have a fantastic collection of items on display, very worth seeing! Place was very clean, well maintained, very well displayed too. Met some of the staff members who are mostly volunteers. Highly recommended for anyone to visit, you will not be disapointed!

Very friendly staff and very big amount of beautiful planes including jets and helicopters. Affordable plane models at the gift shop with a lot of great options. But I hope they can sell more civil aviation aircraft model. Overall very good. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to visit Halifax.

Small but plenty to see! What a great museum for anyone not just aviation enthusiasts! Staff were super friendly one member of staff even gave us a free lift to the airport at the end of their shift! All staff were super knowledgeable and the aircraft and information on show is outstanding. The shop there is like a dream to any model enthusiast having thousands of models from modern jets to early plane prototypes even model cars and star wars space ships! We really enjoyed our visit and will be back again to see what new things are on show!

This is an absolute hidden gem! The CF101 Voodoo parked outside is a small indication of what lies within. The aircraft are beautifully restored, polished and painted, with informative signs. If you have a long stopover at Halifax Stanfield International Airport, you can take the free shuttle to the Airport hotel next door. Trackers, Sea Kings and a beautiful CF-5 from 434 “Bluenose” Squadron. Entrance is free, but donations are encouraged. Incredible gift shop, with models, books, badges, patches and airplane toys.

Located just minutes from Halifax Stanfield International Airport, the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum is a true gem for aviation enthusiasts and families seeking an educational and engaging outing. Operated by a dedicated team of volunteers, this museum offers an immersive experience that traces the rich and varied history of aviation in the Atlantic provinces, from Canada’s first powered flight in 1909 to modern jet aircraft of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. One of the most remarkable aspects of this museum is its admission model: entry is free, though visitors are encouraged to leave a donation (a suggested $8 to $10 per person is noted to support museum maintenance). This approach makes the experience accessible to all while allowing visitors to directly contribute to preserving this unique heritage. Donations are vital for keeping exhibits in excellent condition and funding ongoing restoration projects, reflecting the museum’s strong community commitment. The museum’s collection is impressive, featuring no fewer than 24 meticulously restored vintage aircraft, ranging from gliders and hot air balloons to military fighters and search-and-rescue planes. Highlights include a replica of the Silver Dart, the first aircraft to perform a powered flight in the British Empire, and a Boeing 737NG flight simulator, installed in July 2023, which delights visitors seeking an interactive experience. Guests can also explore the cockpits of certain aircraft, such as a long-range Argus, and discover engines, uniforms, medals, and other artifacts that tell the story of civilian and military aviation. The museum is impeccably organized, with two main buildings: one housing helicopters, a vintage fighter, and historical exhibits, and a large hangar displaying additional aircraft and engines. Exhibits are well-documented, with informative panels detailing significant events, such as Halifax’s role in the diverted flights of September 11, 2001. The volunteers, often aviation enthusiasts themselves, are welcoming, knowledgeable, and eager to share their expertise, making the visit even more enriching. The museum also boasts a well-stocked gift shop, perfect for fans of aircraft models (over 4,000 in stock!), t-shirts, or other aviation-related items. For families, the experience is particularly well-suited, with interactive exhibits and activities that captivate children, such as the Billy Mink scavenger hunt, a playful mascot guiding young visitors through the museum. Nestled in a peaceful wooded setting in Enfield, the museum is easily accessible by car from downtown Halifax (about 30 minutes) and offers free parking. It is also wheelchair-accessible, making it an inclusive destination. While the museum is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, it’s advisable to check winter hours, as they may vary. In summary, the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in aviation history or looking for an educational and entertaining experience. The combination of a diverse collection, passionate staff, and donation-based entry makes it both accessible and invaluable. Whether you’re passing through Halifax or a local resident, a visit to this museum is sure to impress and inspire.

If you enjoy aircraft and their history, we highly recommend this museum. This is wonderful aviation museum with some classic aircraft for viewing. The exhibits are well done with a focus on aircraft history from the Atlantic region. There are examples of Canadian Air Force aircraft from WWI up into the 1980s. We really liked the F35 Sabre used by the Golden Hawks - the predecessor of the Snow Birds. In addition they have one of the most extensive collection of aircraft models and accessories (paints, brushes, and glues) for sale that I have ever seen. Plan at for at least two hours if visiting!

Hope For Wildlife

Nature & Parks
The wildlife rescue service Hope For Wildlife helps save animals who would otherwise die. They are a wonderful group of people who do amazing work and are very welcoming. When we visited they had a number of animals in their care, including a baby pigeon that had been found on our husband's job site. We are so grateful for their help and can't recommend them enough!
A beautiful piece of land with amazing animals and humans on it. Everyone is very kind and knowledgeable. You can see how passionate Hope is about her work when she speaks about it. It's very comforting to know people and places like this exist.

What an amazing experience. Hope for Wildlife is a fantastic organization. Open to the public on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 12-3. We visited on a Saturday and it was BUSY, which is great to see. We had to park on the road and walk. The guided tour was amazing. The gentleman was super informative. I'm upset with myself for not remembering his name. The tower provides a nice panoramic view of the property but be warned....it is constructed out of scaffolding, and it does sway a bit. If you're afraid of heights, it's not for you. Jessie the Bobcat is obviously the highlight. He has a nice cage, which you can view from the outside, the patio, or inside the cafe! He is super friendly and comes super close. Overall, this experience was 10/10. It was great to support such a great organization. We will be back.

Last week, we brought in an injured pigeon to Hope for Wildlife, and I stopped by today hoping to check in on it. The centre is incredibly well run — every animal there is clearly cared for with so much attention and respect. I had a great chat with one of the staff, who shared some amazing facts about owls — like how they use sound to hunt in the dark and how their feathers are built to silence their flight. We also spotted a local goose confidently leading a group of Canadian geese, plus an adorable little goose family waddling around. There were also porcupines, hawks, raccoons, foxes, owls, ravens, and even Bobcat Jessie — all with their own space to recover. For animals who aren’t ready to return to the wild, the staff continue to care for them on-site. Hope for Wildlife is such a meaningful place. If you’re ever curious, they have open house hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 12 to 3 PM. Definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful animal rescue facility. We were so excited to learn that you could go and visit on Wednesdays. We arrived and were greeted by many friendly volunteers. Came for a visit for one of their public visit days. VERY busy. I was not expecting it. People had to park all the way down the road. I really enjoyed my visit and learning about the rehabilitation of all of their animals and the stories of what led them here. Some of the enclosures were a bit small but hopefully their stay is only temporary

Hope for Wildlife has an unmistakable good vibe. It's a place that you hear about, and you "hope" it will meet your expectations, but then you visit and it really does! I've enjoyed roaming around, meeting the animals, and learning a few things along the way. Then one time I used their emergency service: The staff's reception and consideration for the animal was outstanding.
Chase D — Google review
As a Nova Scotia resident, I recently found two trapped baby raccoons—one with a plastic drink ring stuck around its neck—and immediately called Hope for Wildlife for the first time. Hope herself answered the phone and was incredibly calm, polite, professional, and reassuring, letting me know a volunteer would call back within minutes. Soon after, a local volunteer called and arrived quickly. The volunteer couple worked seamlessly to free one baby, safely secure the other so we could remove the ring, and then release both. I was so impressed with how easy it was to get help and how well-organized their rescue system is. Hope for Wildlife truly deserves all the support—they make a real difference for wildlife in Nova Scotia!

Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park

Nature & Parks
Shubenacadie Wildlife Park, located 40 kilometers from Halifax, is a sprawling 40-hectare park that offers visitors the chance to see a wide variety of native and exotic animal species. The park is home to moose, foxes, beavers, wolves, black bears, and cougars. Visitors can enjoy informative displays about hooved mammals, canids, and cats while taking a leisurely walk under the trees.
Excellent place to spend an afternoon with the family. Very affordable. For 3 adults and 1 child under 5, it was $14 for admission. Lots of animals out and about. There's an ice cream stand and food truck so you can enjoy a snack and some ice cream after your walk. The raccoons are my favorite, as you can tell by the excessive photos.

This park is a wonderful spot for families and nature lovers! The park is well-maintained, the animals are clearly well cared for, and it’s a great way to learn about native Canadian wildlife. Peaceful trails, friendly staff, and a fun, educational experience for all ages. Highly recommend for a relaxing day outdoors!

We took our family on a night tour of the wildlife park. It was such a cool experience to see animals at night and how differently they act at night. We met the tour guide at 8:00 and we finished the tour at 10:00. It was a lot of walking so be prepared for that. Our children are between 12 and 5 and did start to get tired. Seeing the wildlife park with a guide was a really great experience because we got to learn so much about the animals and how they came to be at the park. Totally recommend this for anyone looking for a unique experience with their family. The night tours aren't run all the time and do fill up quickly.

Overall a nice place. As with most, I wish there was more funds for larger habitat enclosures and better water features. I'm glad though that the animals are ones that can't go back to the wild and are taken care of. Staff we wonderful.

We had an absolute blast at this wildlife sanctuary! 🦌🦅 There was such a great variety of animals, many that are native to Nova Scotia it was really cool to see them quite up close. It’s the perfect spot for families, kids, and friends of all ages. The admission was very reasonably priced, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable and accessible. The park is really well set up with tasty food, drinks, snacks, and even ice cream to keep you fueled throughout the day. The social media team does a fantastic job too! super informative, helpful, and a great way to plan your visit ahead of time. Highly recommend for a fun, memorable, and family-friendly adventure!

I keep forgetting how big and how nice this park is. Given the location you'd think it would be much smaller, but it seems to just keep going. My kids love coming here! It was a bit warm and the animals were lazing in the sun, but most of them were out which was nice. The picnic area and playground at the back of the park is also a really nice space. It would be nice to see some updates or even a face-lift to the playground, but again, the kids had a blast. Finished off with a purple dragonfruit Gelato which was phenomenal!

What an amazing experience! (Could only imagine how it would be for a child). What a blast! This was the surprise highlight of our trip out east. My daughter and I had such a great time. We had the two friends from New Zealand as our guides, wish I could remember their names at this point it was a month ago today that we went. 10/10 rafting experience with Miles as our guide. He was excellent in explaining the tides and the bore to us, spotting wildlife and guiding us through some massive waves. We went with our teenagers and everyone had a blast. We felt safe and had smiles on our faces the whole time... You just can't see them in pictures because of all the water. Wear your old shoes, rent the GoPro and have so much fun!

Martinique Beach is a beautiful spot with reasonably sized waves that still feels relatively safe. While Clam Harbour Beach, located a bit further away, may be a better option for families with very young children, Martinique offers a stunning setting that's great for older kids and teens. Toddlers would need to be held at all times due to the surf conditions but it's still much safer than Lawrence Town beach. The beach is well-equipped, with bathrooms, change rooms, and a foot-wash station (no showers), located near the first few parking zones. One lifeguard was on duty which was nice. Overall another fantastic beach in NS!

Victoria Park is a picturesque 1000-acre park in Truro, Nova Scotia. It offers an extensive trail system, picnic areas, and beautiful waterfalls. The park is a popular destination for outdoor activities and sightseeing in the region. Visitors can explore the scenic grounds at Province House National Historic Site before strolling through the pedestrian-only Victoria Row and heading to seaside Victoria Park. Nearby attractions include Anne of Green Gables Store and Anne of Green Gables Chocolates on Queen Street.
Victoria Park has always been a beautiful place to visit, and being open to the public year round you can't go wrong regardless of what season we are in. We visited a couple of weeks ago after a fresh snowfall, it was quiet and quite the sight covered in a blanket of snow. Though be careful, the trails aren't maintained during the winter season and it can be quite icy on the upper paths in comparison to the lower ones. *Parts of the trail have been damaged by a recent storm and are no longer accessible until they have been repaired. These sections are blocked off with signage and become obvious as you approach with massive pieces of the trail crumbling down the cliffside or the trail suddenly becoming blocked off by massive trees that have uprooted and toppled over onto one another.

A very large park with a reservoir in the middle. Lots of hiking and cycling trails. There are benches here to sit, but they are not as often as it would like. There are several interesting points, but by the time you get to them you will get tired, so this park is more about active recreation or just walking around to relax from the city. Overall, a very nice place... Both my wife and I agreed that we can endlessly make photos(me) and paint(she) pictures because it has a lot of interesting "small nature spots". Definitely worth a visit. We spent half a day in this park. And there is free parking at the entrance to the park.

Victoria Park is a true gem in Truro! The massive park has trails that take hikers up to the top where the waterfall is situated through a very long Jacob’s Ladder. We were lucky to visit during the fall foliage although the waterfall only had a small stream at this time. There is also a kids playground and ball diamond at the base of the park. As well as a large outdoor pool that was closed after the summer season.

Victoria Park is a hidden gem! This beautiful park offers a range of amenities, including a playground, music stage, and ample car parking. The stunning hill and trees create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, making it the perfect spot to unwind and connect with nature. And to make it even better, they offered free burgers and soft drinks the day we visited! Highly recommended for a serene escape from the city!

**Great Park with Stunning Features** Victoria Park is a fantastic destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts. It boasts a large playground and a designated barbecue area, making it ideal for picnics and gatherings. The park features an extensive trail path perfect for hiking, offering breathtaking views of the amazing waterfront. Whether you're looking to enjoy a day out with the kids or take in the natural beauty, Victoria Park has something for everyone.

Beautiful park with loads and loads of different trails to walk. Some on hard ground, some on dirt, and some on timber walkways. Also some lovely little waterfalls with pools you can take a dip in. The grounds were beautifully maintained. A real hidden gem in the city.

Victoria Park is gorgeous. Beautiful well kept walking paths and lawns. Lots of picnic tables for families or couples. Picnic on the grass in shade along the streams running alongside the walkway. There's a swimming pool. Pickle balls courts, play areas for kids, music bandstand, BBQ area is covered and with screens to keep out the bugs! Oh wait! There's many trails to choose from along with Jacobs Ladder! I dare ya to try it 😁

This is an amazing place for anyone who wants to spend a day admist nature. Although it was very hot almost 28 degrees, we didn't feel it as there were lots of trees and the sunlight hardly reaches the floor. Lots of picnic tables where you can enjoy your food and hear the soothing sound of water flowing and many small water falls. You can also take your stroller upto certain areas. Had a great time exploring it with my kids.

Tatamagouche Brewery, located in rural Nova Scotia, is a standout among beverage makers. The brewery offers refreshing options like the North Shore Lagered Ale and the Hippie Dippie Pale Ale, reflecting the laid-back vibe of its hometown. Visitors praise the friendly and knowledgeable staff as well as the variety of beers available for tasting. Additionally, it has been recommended as a reliable business partner by international companies for its smooth communication and great service.
What a fantastic find on our Nova Scotia trip to experience the Fall. We enjoyed a flight of beers here today and Rhydian at the Brewery was amazing. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable and so helpful recommending the beers for our palate. Highly recommend 🍻

Loved everything about this brewery. Great flight! Awesome staff!!! Added some pics of downtown!

Great beer, nice covered deck on the side to sit out on and friendly service. Just what we needed after a long day of riding on the motorcycle. We were able to walk here from the Train Station Inn.

Tatamagouche Brewing Company is an absolute powerhouse in the Maritime craft beer scene — they truly know what they’re doing. From the amazing artwork and labels to their signature hunter orange and brown color scheme, everything feels distinct and well thought-out. The space itself is adorable, with welcoming patios and super friendly staff, and the selection of beer is huge. It’s a spot I come back to again and again. Even at my local bar, whenever one of their brews is on tap, it sells out almost immediately — people love this beer. Their merch is also top tier. I saw new hoodies posted on Facebook the day before my visit, and when I stopped in the next day, I wasn’t the only one scooping one up — they were clearly a hit! Highly recommend making this a stop along your travels. Plus, it’s very dog-friendly, which makes it even better.

Wonderful selection of onsite brewed beer. Great to see TWO options of porters and a stout. Lots of choices of lagers, ales and specialty brews. Choose a flight to get an idea of their diversity and brewing skill.

Fantastic Brewery! Staff are excellent. All the beers are very good. The tap room is very clean with lots of merchandise. The patio has loads of space for those summer nights. It's definitely one of Nova Scotia's best craft beer spots

Craft Beer. Yummm! Stopped here just to purchase some unique brews like stouts and red ale of which I am a fan. Friendly staff and good selection. Right in town across from the post office. Excellent flavours of the smooth stout, strong alcohol content of the imperial stout and perfect taste of the red ale. Thanks. Too bad you are not in Ontario.

Northumberland Ferries Ltd offers a delightful ferry experience between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, making it an essential part of any travel itinerary. Starting your journey at the Wood Islands Ferry Terminal, you can enjoy the scenic surroundings, including a lovely park by the lighthouse while waiting for your departure. The ferry ride itself lasts just over an hour and is known for its punctuality; passengers are loaded efficiently and set sail on time.
This is the review to read if you are like me and have never road a ferry before (I live in Iowa! No water!). I was extremely confused on how it worked, so I took photos for someone like me! I went from PEI to Nova Scotia. The fee per car is the same if reservation or standby, so make a reservation as it is busy! You will go to a toll booth to check in and they will tell you what lane to park in. You can then walk around and they will call you to your car on an intercom. They then direct you to drive on and direct you where to park. And they park the cars tight! Go upstairs and enjoy the ride! They have indoor and outdoor seating. Right before they dock they call you back to your car then direct you off single file. You drive straight, off the ramp, and onto the highway! They are pretty organized and efficient. Just follow directions and you will be good!

This review focuses on the wheelchair accessible experience on the MV Confederation ship between PEI and NS. At the time of booking I checked the box for accessibility needs, upon check in at the terminal the employee asked about my specific needs and directed us to a special lane to wait in with our 4 way flashers on. During boarding we again told employees our needs. I travel in a lowered floor minivan (which the bottom did scrape when exiting up the steep ramp from the bottom A deck) with a ramp on the passenger side and we were parked right by the elevator with 6 feet of space on the passenger side. There was an automatic door and a nice elevator. There was a bit of a bump at the threshold to the pet friendly E deck where we sat because we had our dog with us. The crossing went smoothly but I didn't need to explore the rest of the ship or use the washroom.

We took the ferry from PEI to Pictou. Ferry was very smooth. Very spacious deck to park the vehicles. Waiting room in upper deck was very clean

Staff were helpful getting us on and off the ferry. It's a great way to get over to Nova Scotia if you are doing a East Coast road trip and don't want to do the bridge both ways

We took the ferry from NS to PEI with our 9 month old baby. It was a nice way to break up the drive from Cape Breton. The kids play place could be updated/ made larger for toddlers but it worked great for our baby!

Today showed up in caribou and I was a day late. I made a mistake. The lady at your booth was so kind and got me on the 10am ferry to PEI. I was very grateful to her. I had reserved this trip. Once on board the new ferry was so spectacular and I was very impressed. Had the breakfast and really enjoyed it . Very peaceful trip. Am looking forward to my return trip next week. Thank you.

Cape Bear Lighthouse and Marconi Station

Cape Bear Lighthouse and Marconi Station, located near Murray Harbour in Prince Edward Island, is one of the seven lighthouses on the island that visitors can explore. It holds historical significance as it was the first Canadian land station to receive distress signals from the Titanic. The lighthouse features an interpretative center with exhibits on its history and connection to the Titanic, as well as a gift shop offering local crafts.
Cute little lighthouse that you can climb up to the top in. Don‘t look into the light, though! The Marconi Museum is included in the lighthouse, so it is by no means huge. But you do get lots of information about this lighthouse and radio station and its role during the sinki g of the Titanic. Definitely worth a short stop.

What a nice stop, and the welcome center staff was a darling. I should have asked her name to make the proper mentions. First Radio Station to receive the Titanic distress message!

Very cool! You get to tour the lighthouse 10$ for a family best deal! You can go all the way to the top its fun.

Nice little spot to stop at and stretch your legs after the ferry. Picnic tables and grassy area. Dogs ok on lawn but not in building. Service dogs are only allowed on main floor. (Upstairs and stairs are not doable by dogs)

Good access to the lighthouse. Very friendly staff. You can go into the lighthouse for a fee. There are several picnic tables. There is no cell service here so I recommend downloading offline maps or another alternative for directions until decent cell service resumes on the main roads.

Cute lighthouse with some links to the Titanic sinking which was an interesting bit of information we did not know. The staff are friendly and happy to share info about the surrounding area. Entry to climb the lighthouse was $6 per adult when we visited and we felt this was fair. The setting is lovely and quiet and the climb up and down was fun.

Sherbrooke Village, located east of Halifax, offers a glimpse into the bustling life of a 19th-century village centered around timber, tall ships, and the gold rush. With 25 original buildings along the St. Marys River, visitors can immerse themselves in pre-1900s living. Costumed interpreters showcase various crafts like blacksmithing and weaving while allowing guests to try their hand at these skills.
What an amazing experience for our whole family! We have a 15-yr-old, 13-yr-old, and a 3-yr-old. All 3 had an amazing time. Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. And they were great with our little guy. We have been to several living history museums, and this was on par or better. The history aspect was amazing, but both of daughter enjoyed the Escape Room the most. It was hands-down their favorite part. It was so clever and well done. My older daughter has done 2 others before (in the USA) and she said this was her fav. And my husband said that the price for the whole day was very reasonable for our family of 5. What a great day overall!!!

Fun little museum. Walk along a tiny village with real people dressed in old fashioned clothes doing old fashioned things. You can interact with them and they pretend to still live in these times. Great fun. If you are up for it you can even hire an outfit yourself and walk through the streets feeling transported back in time.

The Village is fantastic. The staff all working together this last summer was such a wonderful service. The activities for both children and adults was amazing. We were lucky enough to be present on the day of a dog show as well as the Saturday market, which were both lovely surprises. The food in their café was fabulous, and the service was tremendous. We enjoyed exploring all the buildings and talking to the staff about the Village. Can't say enough good things. We will definitely be back.

Visitors can also find vintage quilts and linens, antique hooked rugs, wood turnings, and handmade rustic furniture. The owner Carol's impressive impressionist style paintings are a highlight along with works by four other artists.

This place is a hidden gem! Beautiful artwork by local artists including Carol (aka Naveta), the knowledgeable owner. She took us around, telling us the history of the farm and the artwork the buildings contained. There are also some antiques for sale. Artwork is reasonably priced; we bought three pieces.

Don't miss Rodney Tate's photos! He is such an amazing photographer! We tried our best to narrow it down to two finally, as we were exceeding our luggage weight limit. He is super nice and chill. I love the animal photos he took, and his enormous effort in all seasons to catch them, as a photography lover, I understand how hard it is. Good job Rodney!

This is an interesting shop. The owner, Carol has lots of cool paintings in impressionist style. 4 other artists have works there, too. Next door in the carriage house holds works by wildlife photography, Ron. Each gave us back stories to their work and were interesting to talk with. The garden they have created is beautiful. Lots of different types of plants and statues.

Beautiful spot and view of Northumberland Strait - we visited in late April and had the site to ourselves. Listen to the bell buoy ringing gently amidst the sound of the ocean and the wind. Can understand why the Cape George Community wanted to preserve this lighthouse and place. Lovely

Less than helpful. When i asked for suggestions of what could be good to see, Given that there was a fire ban, she opened the map waved her finger over it and said depends what you wants to see. If I knew that I would not need their help! She was barely interested in selling her part of the province.

The Celtic Music Interpretive Centre is a captivating destination on Cape Breton Island that offers an immersive experience for visitors interested in the significance of Celtic music. The center features interactive exhibits, historical information, and hands-on opportunities with various instruments, including the fiddle. Guests can also explore vintage instruments, learn about different music genres, study Gaelic, and even try traditional dances.
We stopped here on our way back from touring around the Cabot Trail to check out the museum and glad we did. It’s a small museum but does a great job of explaining the music culture prevalent in Cape Breton and elsewhere in Nova Scotia. There’s free dance lessons with a video you can start and stop. You can pick up a fiddle and play it. And the day we were there, there was a Ceilidh going on in the front room - well attended and with great music to listen to as we toured the museum. Definitely recommend!

Absolutely first rate music!! I have never heard live Celtic music before. Unreal!! And great food & service too😁😁👍👍 Right on the Celtic Shores bicycle/walking trail & Cabot Trail Hwy

We stopped in for the lunch ceilidh. Our meal was absolutely delicious and service was stellar. Fantastic, fabulous music for 2.5 hrs interspersed with delightful stories about music on the island. The museum is well worth the small admission price. We really enjoyed learning dance steps and practicing with a fiddle! Cannot recommend this experience highly enough.

Stopped by for breakfast while staying in Judique. I had the fish cakes with eggs over easy, and potatoes and my wife had the senior bacon and eggs. Both meals were very good and filling. The service was excellent and had decent prices. We were going to go back for lunch and listen to some music but we were both still so full from breakfast we didn't bother but we will if we are in the area again.
Doug — Google review
The food was ok, service was good. We went on an afternoon to experience the Ceilidh and square dancing. $10 per person above the cost of your food when there is a music program. The music was fine but too loud. Square dancing was peculiar to the area I'm guessing, no caller to announce the steps and hardly any space to accommodate more than 8 dancers. No one announced come join in the dancing, it appeared like you couldn't just jump up and join. Very close to the bike path and walking trail.
Carmen J — Google review
A great place for old and new friends to gather for tunes, dancing and dining. Some of the activities do change seasonally, so it's important to check out the website. The Sunday afternoon ceilidhs are a special treat with "the regulars" always ready to help out newer visitors enjoy dancing in square sets. The kitchen crew and servers do a fine job meeting everyone's needs. Stop by and stay a while!
Bob B — Google review
Stopped for lunch and to watch the live music. I had the Cape Breton lunch, which was really good, but a lot of food. It wasn't until I read the reviews of others that I realized there was a museum there too, so I wish that was better pointed out.

August 28, 2023 UPDATE: We had a great lunch at the Celtic Music Centre this afternoon! The seafood chowder, served with a warm tea biscuit was "delicious", the spinach salad was fresh and tasty ... and the turtle cheesecake divine (the slice was not too large, not too small ... just right). Really enjoyed the live music by Donna Marie DeWolfe (fiddler) and Amanda MacDougall (piano). Our server was lovely and we were greeted with a welcoming smile! August 27, 2021 - I had a wonderful dining and music experience at Judique’s unique Celtic Music Centre (CMIC) on Friday, August 27, 2021. Everything on the menu looked tempting, so I opted for the “Piper’s Burger” with a side of fries (photo). The meal was generous ... and delicious (I especially appreciated the option to select a gluten-free hamburger bun). During my dining time at the centre, I enjoyed their “Lunch Time Ceilidh” featuring well-known local musicians Shelly Campbell and Cathy Hawley (photo). After lunch I visited the gift store (photos) and took a little tour of the interactive exhibit room that highlights the history of Cape Breton music (photos). The Ceilidh Pub staff were friendly, warm and fun! (photo). Overall, the Celtic Music Centre is a grand place to visit for great food, wonderful music, a lovely gift shop, interesting exhibition, and friendly, engaging staff. If you are travelling up or down Hwy 19, I’d highly recommend it!

The Glenora Inn & Distillery, situated in Glenville, Inverness County, is a charming old-world inn located within North America's first single malt whisky distillery, Glen Breton Rare. Established in 1990, this picturesque retreat offers a range of accommodations including cozy rooms and log chalets overlooking the distillery. The property also features a refined pub and dining room where guests can enjoy daily ceilidhs.
My wife and I booked a room at GID as part of our Cabot Trail experience and were very happy we did. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room and washroom, although plain, was quite large compared to many of the other Inns we stayed in during our trip. We had dinner at the pub which was delicious (best fries that I've ever I had!) and the server was delightful. We took the distillery tour - not long - with a fellow (name escapes me) who is very keen on their single malt whiskey and the process. Enjoyable. We would stay again if ever in the area.
Bill K — Google review
We spent one night at Glenora Inn. The staff was very friendly. We started our visit off with a tour. It was quick and informative (they showed a video and then the Distiller described the process). We did not eat dinner here but upon our return from Inverness we had some drinks. Staff was helpful, prompt and friendly. There was also live music. Our room was solid. It has been redone but was a little rough around the edges. The shower could use a scrub has there was a build up of mold. We had a comfortable sleep. They provided a continental breakfast (coffee, tea, fruit, yogurt, hardboiled eggs, muffins, toast, bagels, biscuits). Location is remote but they provide a well rounded service.
Taryn K — Google review
The hospitality was great. The tour while short and sweet was also great The food in the pub was tip top. The music was beyond amazing, an employee just enjoying a drink and some food grabbed her violin and started to play! Everyone was nice and so friendly. The area was beautiful. I would love to make a trip back and would definitely recommend to anyone both a stay and the whisky! Cheers!

Went here for our anniversary. It was nice but fell short of expectations. A place that charges $400 a night for a room should provide glasses for its guests. The room had cheesy plastic cups and also cable TV with more ads than content. This isn't the 1990's. Great location, beautiful grounds and clean spacious room but lacking class that you'd expect with the price. It was our second visit, and the tour is short and lacking any real technical details unlike the one we had years ago which was fantastic.
Brad B — Google review
We didn't stay overnight but we did eat lunch at the patio and do the 'distillery tour'. I wouldn't waste time on the tour. It was an old video that was so hard to hear and strange and then not even a shot of a sample but really a tiny sip. The guide seemed like he had somewhere else to be and was filling in because he didn't have answers or really explain much. The actual tour took about 8 minutes. Lunch however was very good and fish was cooked perfect and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. They had a problem with my daughters meal and she came out and explained it and said it would be no charge but a few minutes late. Beautiful location.

Review is only for the restaurant. Food was excellent. I had the fish cakes with a Caesar salad and both were excellent. Others in the group also enjoyed their meals. The whiskey (14 year old) was fabulous.

The Glen Breton 10 year rare is the best! Very smooth. If you’re not able to buy it at the distillery itself, you can find it at several liquor stores in Nova Scotia and other parts of Canada as well. Beautiful location.

Highlights included... a beautiful property, nice rooms, cute gift shop, listening to live entertainment while having dinner, sitting with family on the outdoor patios, food was delicious. Views are beautiful and staff was friendly. Best part was tasting the whiskeys and having a favorite bottled and numbered right from the cask strength barrels in the gift shop.

Absolutely beautiful golf resort! The courses are stunning, with breathtaking views in every direction. Everyone at Cabot makes you feel special from the moment you arrive — the service is exceptional and truly personalized. Our caddies, Aaron and Claire, were wonderful — friendly, knowledgeable, and made the experience even more enjoyable. We had an amazing time and can’t wait to come back. A must-visit for any golf lover! ⛳️🌊

We had a very nice trip here. Both courses are very well done and our fab was Links course. Cliffs is also nice too, however a few silly holes. Staff was very nice and restaurant had excellent food It’s quite expensive so prepare yourself.

I had very high expectations for Cabot Cape Breton given its reputation, but my experience was shockingly bad from start to finish. For a place that markets itself as world-class, the level of service, organization, and hospitality was nowhere near acceptable. The staff seemed indifferent and at times outright dismissive, there was no genuine warmth or effort to make guests feel welcome. Simple requests took ages to be acknowledged, and communication between departments appeared completely disorganized. For the prices they charge, you’d expect attentive, polished service but instead, it felt chaotic and unprofessional. The accommodations were also disappointing: poorly planned, maintenance issues left unresolved, and overall far from the luxury standard that Cabot tries to project online. The food was overpriced and bland, and even basic amenities like Wi-Fi and heating were unreliable during my stay. The golf course may be scenic, but that’s about the only redeeming quality. Everything else from the service to the management’s attitude felt like a complete letdown. It’s all style over substance, and it’s clear they rely more on hype than on delivering real quality. For the cost, you can find far better experiences elsewhere in Nova Scotia, places that actually value their guests and understand what hospitality means. I wouldn’t recommend Cabot Cape Breton to anyone.

My husband and I traveled to Cabot as part of a larger vacation and we finished it with a bang by staying at Cabot. This property is in a fabulous location and boasts amazing views. The staff here are generous and kind and the accommodations are top notch. This exceptional resort provides every possible offering to guests and is well worth the investment. We are grateful for the kindness we received from Bobby and the property management to celebrate our anniversary and renewal of our wedding vows. Absolutely fantastic!!

A must ! From awesome customer service, to great food and drinks, to stunning golf courses, this place is a must for any avid, or non-avid golfer. GM Mark Steenge ensured our stay was memorable with excellent personal touches. The staff and caddies are top notch, friendly, and skilled ! Golf courses like you dream about.

Cabot Cape Breton is pure golf heaven. From the moment you arrive, everything feels world-class — the views, the atmosphere, and the attention to detail. Cabot Cliffs is breathtaking and challenging with super fast greens, while The Nest — the 11-hole short course — is creative, fun, and perfectly maintained. The pro shop is top-tier, with premium gear, friendly staff, and everything you could possibly need for your round. The amenities for daily guests are outstanding — from the practice facilities with full TrackMan setup to the clubhouse and dining options. And if you stay multiple nights, it only gets better: luxurious rooms, incredible food, and sunsets you’ll never forget. Every corner of Cabot Cape Breton is done right. I’ll be returning again and again for the rest of my life.

Thank you Cabot Cape Breton for making our engagement so special. We had an amazing time, the golf, the staff, the rooms, everything was very well done and made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Will definitely come back.

Very nice place to stay (even if you're not playinh golf) but not cheap of course. They were very friendly and all services were well organised. They have multiple options to eat breakfast/lunch/dinner. There's a shuttle service, you can rent bikes, they offer also tennis and axe throwing.

Captain Greg and First Mate Moose provide top-notch experiences, catering to both experienced sailors and beginners. They offer informative and laid-back journeys, sharing their knowledge of the local area while allowing guests to take the helm and learn at their own pace.
Beautiful day, great experience, lovely opportunity to learn more about sailing in gorgeous Cape Breton. Captain Greg and 1st Mate Moose were wonderful teachers and guides/representatives of the area.

This was such an awesome experience. We learned so much about sailing and about the history of the area. The boat is safe and beautiful. Greg is a very experienced captain who takes the time to explain how everything works. This is a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it to anyone.
Rob S — Google review
Sailing No Rush with Captain Greg and Moose around St. Peters was one of the highlights of our trip. They taught us the basics of sailing in a way that felt easy and fun, and shared with us stories along the way, from old-school graphic design to Acadian history. Greg was our first sailing captain, and he’s the one we’ll always remember. We even left with a new lesson: don’t be greedy with the wind. We walked away a little wiser and maybe a little in love with sailing. Hopefully, we’ll cross paths again on the open ocean someday. We would recommend 100% taking the private charter for at-least half a day. Cheers, Farah and Georgine

What a great time!!! I enjoyed myself so much out on the Bras D'Or Lakes with Captain Greg and Moose, salt of the earth guys! I loved that they encouraged us to take a go at the helm, which was pretty cool! The fresh air aboard the No Rush was quite invigorating. Thanks for having us, we would do it again in a heartbeat.

Greg and Moose provided a very enjoyable experience for us novice sailors. Greg is very knowledgeable and experience at the helm. We all had a chance to be at the helm on a day with high winds.

Greg is a wonderful host. So knowledgeable of the lake, Cape Breton, and Nova Scotia history. We had a lovely sail. My husband got to sail the entire 6 hours which was a real treat for him. Highly recommended.

Absolutely stunning, clean and clear water. Breathtaking. Made our doggo very happy as it made for great swimming. Went back a few days in a row!

Gorgeous clear lake, great for boating. There are barely any boats in the water. The water temperature is not too cold, great place to escape the heat on a warm summer day. Watch out for the jellyfish, as there are very many in some places.

Wonderful spot! So many beer choices! Two separate bars with choices for everyone! We didn’t eat today at the food truck but it smelled amazing. Last time we enjoyed their burger and fries and they were great! There was live music, lots of happy people, dogs, kids enjoying a beautiful NS end of summer day! Lots of open spaces and picnic tables, seating and an indoor space as well! Lawn games for kids and adults to indulge in. The staff is always amazing!

Big Spruce brewing is a member of harvest hosts. This brewery and the experience you have there are outstanding. The beers are delicious and the food truck is almost gourmet. Never had deep-fried pepperonis with these were stellar as were the smash burgers. The hospitality was unrivaledover any other brewery. We stopped at. Simply a fantastic experience.

Highland Village Museum, located on the shores of Bras D'Or Lake in Iona, is a living history museum that brings the Gaelic past of Cape Breton to life. The re-created Gaelic settlement features 11 historic buildings where costumed actors demonstrate various aspects of Scottish family life, including farming, cooking, and crafts like spinning and weaving.
What a fabulous find! This outdoor museum walks you through life in Scotland as the Gaels prepare to leave for Nova Scotia, then through early settlement and through the years until now. The people in costume and character were wonderful especially those speaking in Gaelic. It is a lovely way to spend a few hours in a beautiful part of Cape Breton

I had a peaceful and unforgettable experience! Highland Village Museum is like walking through history. Each building tells a story, and the costumed guides make Gaelic culture come alive. The views over Bras d’Or Lake are stunning, and the atmosphere is calm and inspiring. A must-visit if you’re exploring Cape Breton or love heritage and nature combined.
Amritpal S — Google review
Their website describes themselves as "A living history museum and folklife centre that celebrates the story, language and living culture of Nova Scotia Gaels." It was surprisingly good. And not necessarily in a "bran cereal" kind of way. The grounds had 12 buildings, in addition to the visitor center, and each told part of the story of the Gaels' migration from the Highlands of Scotland to the Highlands of Nova Scotia. Several of them were attended by volunteer actors who described what life was like in the time period being represented, from the 1770's to the 1920's. Pretty cool.

What a hidden gem! We were visiting the maritimes with the intention to hike Cape Breton but the trail closures (due to fire risk) started a couple of days before we arrived so we had to change our plans. We spotted this museum on google maps and decided to visit. It was amazing. The actors, especially the lovely lady who was in the first stone house, made us feel like we traveled back in time and we learned a lot from her. Don’t just breeze through the museum; ask questions and be immersed! Aside from the history, the views were phenomenal.
Andrea L — Google review
Very boring, very strenuous to climb the hills but coming down the gravel is very loose and dangerous. Do not go if any problems with easy exertion or ambulation. Definitely not handicapped accessible.
Jeane C — Google review
Absolutely outstanding! The dwellings from each highlighted time period, and the costumed actors interpreting that time and answering questions, were fascinating. For us the highlight was a ceilidh (visit), with fiddling, step dancing, story telling, and rich explantations of each. If you visit only one place in Cape Breton, this should be it!
Phil C — Google review
Was looking for place to visit in the area to get a hike in and learn some history. My family and I had a great time travelling through the history of the peoples from Scotland and how they settled the area. There was a beautiful view of the Bras D’Or lake in the background to make it scenic as well. The staff was friendly and we even got to grab a quick lesson in Gaelic!

Margaree Salmon Museum

Nestled in the heart of Cape Breton Island, the Margaree Salmon Museum is a hidden gem that beautifully captures the essence of local fishing culture and history. Established in a historic building, this museum offers an engaging glimpse into the world of salmon fishing, showcasing an impressive array of lures and equipment that highlight its significance to regional identity. Visitors often stumble upon this charming spot while exploring nearby attractions like the Dancing Goat café.
We were passing through the area as part of our Cabot Trail adventure and saw this on the map near the Dancing Goat where we got lunch so decided to check it out. We don’t fish but still found the museum quite informative and interesting. We had no idea how many variations of lures existed or the breadth of equipment used in the sport. It was fun to learn about something that is part of the regional identity. We tried to go see salmon swimming up the river after visiting the museum but had no luck. Definitely recommend checking out the museum!
Karl P — Google review
Incredible little place Absolutely packed with interesting relics It seems like every person who has ever caught a fish on the Margaree has donated something. The curator clearly cares a lot for the collection.

A local treasure trove of stories, artifacts and natural history. Whether you care about the history, nature or the art of salmon fishing, there is something to be cherished here. A library of antique books can help you learn increasingly rare skills and knowledge.

This museum has an amazing number of exhibits of salmon, rods and reels and beautifully tied flies( lures). There's a great deal of history about fishing in the area. The lady who spoke with us made it all very interesting and easy to understand. It's a little off the beaten track, but worth it.

This was hands down the best stop we made during our time on the Cabot Trail! Worth the detour. Learned so much about the culture & history of the island, and those who made it home. Wish I could give it 6 stars. Lobster < Salmon

My parents are from the Margarees, long-tail families as my mother always said. She grew up by the Forks and Dad went to school in the building now the museum. Us 5 kids went from the U.S. with our own families and Dad in tow and we went to the Salmon Museum! It was awesome history for us and our Dad! Salmon was a big thing, and fly fishing, and as kids, we all swam in the river down by my Aunt & Uncle's near Tompkins Road (family name). My one brother got a salmon before we left! It took every day up there, but he got one the night before we left. My father's sister in the states had (afterwards) shown us a picture of herself, my father (her brother) and their younger siblings in the school house, now museum, when they lived in Big Brook. My mother's father was a salmon guide at the McDaniel pool and we were thrilled to see pictures of him at the museum. He was also in WWI and WWII with numerous medals including either a Bronze or Silver Star, Purple heart - a very impressive amount of awards for his service and bravery. My Dad recognized people everywhere we went or they recognized him, even at the museum. That was 2005. He left home in 1960 with my mother to the U.S. Us 5 kids are still in touch with our family up there and we stayed last at Lake O'Law. We hope to be back in summer 2021. The museum is a wonderful place to visit, and any descendants from the area!
