Really nice. I was there for a visit and the cabins are amazing. It makes you feel like your out in the woods.

Recently worked with the owners to purchase this facility. I spent thousands of dollars of personal money and at the eleventh hour they abolished the contract and began to sell to someone else. After counting all the costs we are indeed glad that things transitioned the way they did however If your looking to purchase this please be careful and count all the costs involved. Take their word with a grain of salt. They have no problem wasting your time, resources and hard earned money.

Great spot. Our cabin was very clean and updated........ for a cabin. It is walking distance to splash n putt which is our main reason for staying there. We have been to 4 different locations in the area over the past couple of years. And this is our favorite.
Jason C — Google review
Review focused on the entertainment options: About as closed to a theme park as you get in Newfoundland. I've been a half dozen times in my life and its stayed pretty much the same since. The mini golf is great, as are the bumper cars and boats. That said the bumper boats and Go Karts always seem to be in a mixed state of repair and that can affect the number of riders supported. Splash N Putt isnt the sort of high budget place as something like Canadas Wonderland and somethings are maybe a little rougher than you might expect. You can expect minor scrapes and bumps for you or your kids. To me that was always part of the experience but more concerned parents may want to be careful if you have kids with a condition of fragility.
L T — Google review
great fun. however, the staff is terrible & do not smile at all. they seem miserable! bumper cars are super unsafe so be careful.

Very sweet ...great information about the life of this unique community. Poor signage and the parking was confusing.

Small but worth the visit, community museum with a hard walking trail behind it. Beautiful boat model inside with other local pieces such as birch brooms that were hand made. Lovely area with soaring cliffs with trails & lookouts, beautiful harbour. We stayed at the Feather & Fin bed & breakfast in Sandringham which is located roughly 15 kms from this museum.

This is a wonderful trail. Be aware there are lots of stairs to climb when deciding to take this trail. Beautiful view of Clarenville and the water. There are plaques and a viewing binoculars. Nice spot to have lunch. You can also go further to meet up with the Shoal Harbour Trail that I will venture on today. Easy parking and trail is to the right at the edge of the woods. Enjoy!
Lynn V — Google review
Great trail for hiking or trail running! Well maintained and well marked. Parking lot on the Manitoba Rd. side of the trail.
Steph R — Google review
I was in the area of Port Blantford / Clarenville and wanted to do a good hike that wouldn't take me all day. This one will only take you about an hour to an hour and a half depending how quick you are, and the view at the top is definitely worth it.
Stephen O — Google review
It was ok, no gift shop or amenities but a good view of the bay and car park. If you do they loop you might find blueberries. Look out for the secret message.
Daniel F — Google review
This is a fantastic view on a reasonably easy trail. There are stairs and some inclines which are a bit steep, but overal a short walk that is still an easy difficulty. However! The path is not well marked and many of the signs have been knocked loose or down. The route is not on Google Maps, so it is worth keeping an eye on where you are going.
Francesca P — Google review
Beautiful trail that takes you to an incredible view at the top of the mountain! Took us about an hour to do the loop and there were a few benches along the way. Signage was pretty good too
Kerri C — Google review

The historical society has done a first rate restoration on a number of buildings in Trinity! We toured the Lester Gardner House. The Garland family were a very successful & prominent British family who operated a large fishing fleet and processing operation in Trinity in the early 1700 ‘s. Their home was very elegant for its time!

Great experience. Bruce gives a great account of how life was before confederation and how things have changed. The boat ride, the break and the stories are well worth the ride out to Bonaventure. Highly recommended if you are in the area. Bring some warm clothes! Thanks Bruce!
Darcy P — Google review
Awesome tour to take of you get the chance. Bruce was a great tour guide on the boat. Took us to lots of different coves and explain and showed us what they look like today compatible to photos of the past. Did some cod jigging on the way back and managed to land 15 cod in less.than 30 minutes. Highly recommended.
Neil S — Google review
Had a great tour with Bruce. A wealth of stories about the past including fishing the cod, outport stories and abandoned villages. It can put a tear in your eye to think of what changes these hardy good people had to make. Thank you Bruce and trust you will have a great summer. Pat and Kathie
Pat H — Google review
We had a great time with Bruce on this tour. If you could imagine meeting a local in a bar, and then having them give you a personal tour of their region the next day, this is like the tour. Add into that some great history about cod fishing in the area, it’s a great authentic experience that I would highly recommend
Peter S — Google review
Bruce took us on a hugely enjoyable voyage, not just around this stunning coast but into the lives of the people who lived and fished here. We had time ashore for tea and local partridgeberry jam in his British Harbour cabin where he brought alive the story of the fishing communities. Many thanks indeed for a highlight of our stay in Newfoundland.
Jonathan K — Google review
Had an amazing tour of some of the coastal areas and abandoned settlements with Bruce, who shared stories about coastal communities throughout the trip. The tour took us on a beautiful scenic route, ending with some tea, hot chocolate and crackers at a cabin, before returning!
Osama S — Google review
Went out today with family (mother in - law, and children 7 and 9). Tour is about 3 hours and includes a stop in operators Private cabin in abandoned community. Many great stories and information on the history of the area as well as cod fishing. Not geared for younger kids necessarily but our kids enjoyed (we saw an Iceberg (growler at that stage) up close, whales and a number of Bald Eagles and learned about fishing that was good for them). With max of 12 (9 on our trip including us) and 3 hour tour including tea a very personalized and unique experience! I have photos on an old camera will hope to add one later.

What an incredible museum! With so much information to read and learn about. I spent 2.5 hours browsing the space and enjoyed all the exhibits. The museum us very well put together with so many first hand accounts of the culture its really special! If you're in the area it's a must see.
Oscar H — Google review
A must for those interested in wooden boats and even more so for those who are interested in building wooden boats. Excellent history and we nabbed a guide to explain everything which made it just that much more in depth and interesting. Detailed explanation with real life examples of boat construction. Outside they have an active wooden boat building facility that also offers courses. Some are for young people. They also construct wooden boat kits which you can purchase and put together. Just an amazing place of an artform that is sadly being lost.

Really informative! The station itself was in use up until the 1960s and it was left more or less as it was when it closed. The displays are really well done, the staff were informative and helpful, and the video history had great production values. This is worth going out of your way to visit if you're a tech nerd.
Ian A — Google review
This museum puts into perspective the efforts to create transatlantic communications. A piece of Newfoundland and Canadian history not to be missed.
Ian W — Google review
I knew I was going to like this place, but I didn't expect it to wow me as much as it did. The staff were so knowledgeable and helpful. The history here is excellent. Well worth a stop!
Julie B — Google review
Beautifully preserved site of the first trans Atlantic cable complete with all the equipment used at the time to operate a link between north America and Europe via Morse code at the time. The staff was clearly passionate about the exhibits and very informative. It’s a little bit out of the way as many things are in Newfoundland but well worth the trip and an easy drive from St . John’s.
Dino — Google review
Very interesting to learn about the first telegraph station in Newfoundland. The mini guided tour was very informative. There was a short movie to watch about the telegraph station. Then we were free to roam around and read the placards. Small reasonable charge to visit. Parking was free. Washroom was clean.

Nestled between Highway 100 and Placentia, Castle Hill National Historic Site is a captivating destination that offers a glimpse into the historical conflicts between French and British forces over Newfoundland's rich fishing grounds. This site features impressive fortress ruins, including remnants of old walls and restored cannons that harken back to the 1600s and 1700s.
Really enjoyed this site. Up the stairs to the site with great placards and walkways. Views from the top worth the stairs. Visitor center had a lot of great Information. Staff were very helpful. Good parking. Close to ferry access so worth the time on your way there.
Alexandra M — Google review
Went in late October after the site closed for the season but still well worth the visit. Had called and was told the site was still accessible just you need to park at the road and walk up. The remains of the fort and redoubts are interesting and some nice walking trails around the site. Worth the visit.
Richard W — Google review
Very foggy on the day I was there but enjoyed the visitation centre and the fort. Some steep steps or you can take a path that winds up to the fort.
Lisa S — Google review
We visited a couple weeks ago. My child had lots of fun running around the old fortifications and sitting by the cannons overlooking Placentia. There’s a lot of interesting history on the changes from French to British to read about and several interesting artefacts. It’s a nice halfway point on the way to Cape St Mary’s.
Kirk H — Google review
Good experience. Uphill (sometimes steep) walk to see the rock walls. Signs indicating distance were good. Public washroom available just inside entrance to the visitor centre. Our visit lasted about 1 hour to see the main part and the one further away (round trip). Would not recommend for strollers or mobility aids, but not sure if the visitor centre offered solutions. Dogs permitted but I didn't see any waste bags available.

Giving it a five star because the lady set work here all of them are extra extra friendly. Wonderful human beings. Even though it was pouring out rain cats and dogs and I mean it was raining hard. Beautiful little place to go visit. And because it was before September 3rd it was free to get in

Miriam ( — Google review
I just went to the o'reilly house and there were two teenage girls and one young man that were working there. So we walked in and started the scavenger hunt. Me and my little sister walked up stairs and started searching. And as we walked those halls we heard giggling, It was the two girls that were working there. The guy that was there was no problem, he was sweet and he wasn't up to any trouble. Then a few minutes later we heard old music playing, so we walked down stairs. There they were, two of the girls playing the antique record player. I couldn't believe my eyes. So I said "That's not something you should be playing with, you could break it" they both looked at me for a second and said nothing. I walked off and also said "Even if you do work here." Me and my sister then walked up stairs again and started looking again for around 5 mintues until I decided it was time to leave. So we walked out and got in the car. These girls are going to grade 12. Even I would know not to do that. If I got a saying on which these girls should be working there, I would definitely say "No". Can you imagine if these girls wanted to work at the YMCA and be a camp counselor? To be honest they act like kids themselves. But that's not the point. The museum has had no issues in the past. These workers were just ignorant and irresponsible.

We are currently on a little brewery, distillery and winery tour around the Avalon. An absolute blast with our personal wine sommelier Debbie….. My goodness, a terrific afternoon of laughs and libations. Highly recommend taking this winery in. Skeptics at first, but four hours later left with our faces hurting from laughing and enjoying Debbie’s hospitality. Ensure you ask to see her ‘ugly stick’. The Maple Liqueur and Maple Vodka were fav’s.

We visited Rodrigues with a group in April. The wines were delicious! Typically fruit wines are too sweet and mixed with grapes, but Rodrigues has a method that really works. Wow awesome hike. I'd say easy for anyone with hiking experience, moderate for those inexperienced. We walked the entire thing in 2.5 hours but we stop a lot for photos and to just take in the views. The eastern and northern portions have stunning views and are actual hiking paths. The western portion is on road and can be missed, except for the bit towards the top end where the "Three Sisters" rock formation and beach are (nice metal staircase leading down). The entire beach is full of perfect skipping stones - bring the kids! So impressed, Bay Roberts has done a great job on trail maintenance and signage - there are even a few simple Toilets. There are tons of blueberries to pick along the way when in season. As usual obey instructions regarding cliffs and private property. There is parking at several access points, check the trail map.

Bay Roberts sits on the coast of one of the fingers of Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula, on the west side of Conception Bay, just across the water from the city of St John’s. Its coastal location and proximity to the city makes it a popular spot for visitors looking to drink in the wonder of Canada’s farthest east coast. The Shoreline Heritage Trail will offer some challenges to amateur walkers, but its craggy landscape is worth the effort. Considered an “easy-to-moderate” hike, the Shoreline Heritage Trail is a five-mile (8km) loop that takes explorers along beaches, sheer cliffs and brilliant green terrain. One of the highlights is Madrock, an outcrop that sees the full fury of the Atlantic Ocean. You can pack a picnic to enjoy at the Three Sisters pebble beach to extend the duration of your walk, which takes about two hours without stops.
Devy J — Google review
Very beautiful trail with an amazing view. It is difficult to find the beginning of the trail as google Maps showing a wrong point. Later on, we learned that there are 3 entry points. We used the last one just near the private house, hidden around the corner. Trail is not marked well, so if during bad weather and not many people around, make sure you marked where you left the car and entered the trail. It is absolutely spectacular

Nestled in the heart of Newfoundland, Cupid's Legacy Centre is a captivating destination that invites visitors to delve into the rich history of the first English settlement established in 1610. This modern museum showcases an impressive collection of over 153,000 artifacts unearthed from nearby archaeological sites, including trade beads and Canada’s oldest English coin.
Such a great centre to learn all about the history in Cupids. They had so many different things like artifacts, videos, sounds, photos, figures, it really made it interesting. The staff were very nice and knowledgeable as well.

You should go to the plantation first and see the archeological site then go here. The artifacts and stories will make more sense if you do it in this order. Well displayed. Great actors portraying characters from the past. Nice bright place. Has a cafe inside as well but I never ate there

What a gem of a museum, SO much history I didn't even know about. (My husband's family is French and his ancestor arrived in Quebec City with the Great Recruit of 1653, so I didn't really know too much about the history of the English). This is the best museum I've seen in Newfoundland and the well worth the price of admission. AND a cafe - food is amazing. What a nice treat after two hikes in the area.

The Cupids Legacy Centre is a true gem! The interpreters were incredibly knowledgeable and brought the history of the area to life with engaging stories and fascinating details. The exhibits are thoughtfully designed, making the experience both educational and enjoyable. The gift shop is delightful, with a great selection of local crafts, books, and unique souvenirs. The Fairy Garden on the Observation Deck is truly charming. A must-visit for anyone exploring Brigus.

Great way to learn about the settlement of Cupids. The story is told by folks in period costume as you walked with them through the museum. They really made history come alive.

Fantastic way to tell the history of Cupids. 3 actors (very talented) role played 3 generations of story tellers that settled and lived the history of the region. Well worth the time to experience. Well done!

Cataracts Provincial Park is a hidden gem located 8km west of Colinet, offering breathtaking natural beauty and two stunning waterfalls. Although it may be difficult to find due to the lack of signage, the park features a short walking trail that leads visitors down into the gorge, across the river, and back up on the other side for multiple perspectives of the falls.
Beautiful bridge, water fall and stairs. It’s more like a short stairs down to the waterfall and back up to the road. The only issue we had was the gravel road from the Placentia to the park. We didn’t know that and we had to drive almost 40 minutes in the gravel road to make it to the park. Which made it a memorable experience lol.

Beautiful waterfalls - there are two! Could be difficult to find as there is no sign that you've reached the provincial park. As far as I could tell, there were just the two waterfalls and no hiking, picnic tables etc.

If you're planning a trip to Bell Island, the Bell Island Community Museum should definitely be on your itinerary. This fascinating museum offers an immersive experience into the island's rich history, particularly its significance as one of the world's largest submarine iron ore mines. Visitors can explore underground mining shafts and hear captivating stories from knowledgeable guides like Geraldine, who shares personal anecdotes about her family's connection to the island's mining past.
It was really good tour. Our guide Brian was excellent. Very knowledgeable and full of stories to tell. We learned a lot about mining in the past and life. It was unreal to be so deep under the ocean. We bought Brian's book. Small museum is good and don't skip the cafe. Food is good and chilly was great. I recommend this tour to everyone . Ferry ride was a breeze and very pleasant and inexpensive.

Don’t mess with the Russians 😬 you must’ve heard this phrase… BUT Have you ever heard not to mess with the Germans? Take the tour to find out the tragic historical events that took place. All I’m going to tell you is that it was the only attack on North American soil by German U-boats. The exhibits are awesome, the tour guides (especially Heather 💜) are knowledgeable, devoted, and show their love for the people of Bell Island and the miners. This Iron Ore mine operated for 71 years, from 1895 to 1966.

This was filled with lots of history about the mines. Our tour guide Heather was so knowledgeable and passionate about her job. She was kind and very thoughtful for giving us the best information. Thank you Heather you should be real proud of your contribution to this museum.

Our guide, Geraldine, was very friendly and told us interesting stories. We had a great time! The museum shows what life was like for the miners. After the tour, we enjoyed coffee and ice cream in the café – both were really tasty! I highly recommend visiting this place!
Mariia T — Google review
A must visit. The history, combined with the walk into the mine, is an exceptional experience. Ensure to bring a warm jacket, as it'll drop a few degrees when the tour guide brings you down the mine. Clean and well maintained bathrooms, a gift shop, and a small coffee shop for snacks. Plenty of free parking. The staff were very friendly and quite knowledgeable in all aspects of the mine tour. Apparently there is a separate deep cave diving experience by a local tour company out of here as well, because only the first 600 meters of the 3 mile mine is above water; the rest has flooded with fresh water over the years.
Brett W — Google review
Bell Island is a must visit, and the Bell Island Community Museum has to be at the top of your list. The museum is well laid out and presented. The tour times line up with the island's ferry times. Geraldine was our tour guide and brought us underground and shared personal stories of her family and Bell Island's iron ore history. The adjoining cafe is a must! We spoke with sweet and funny locals. We spoke for so long, that we almost missed the ferry. Try their miners blend coffee, you won't be disappointed! It's their own blend, and the beans are available for sale in the gift shop.

The Wilds Resort at Salmonier River

Resort hotel
Outdoor Activities
Unassuming rooms & condos in a rustic resort offering a golf course & a pool with mountain views.
Great golf course! The grounds crew and proshop staff are excellent. Conditions are some of the best around. Short drive outside the city but definitely worth it for excellent golf. Just make sure to bring bug spray and sun block!
B — Google review
The staff we met were very friendly, helpful and informative. And really made our stay enjoyable! Golf course looked nicely manicured. Would have like to explore the ground but time did not allow. Loved the location.! The view from our room was mostly a broken, sludge filled pool. Beds felt pretty worn out. But over all was clean.

Stayed there this weekend for a wedding. Stayed at the Red Cottage. It’s was about 4 km away from the main hotel area. The road to the cottage was horrible. Potholes big enough your car bottoms out. The website advertised a hot-tub, there was no hot-tub. The A/C unit was a block of ice. We had to clean the A/C filter cause it was so blocked there was no air getting through it. There were signs everywhere in the cabin stating out of order- ice maker, window don’t open. There was no cable T\V all weekend. It wasn’t what was advertised. For the amount of money you spend, it was very disappointing. We spoke to the Front Desk and they said we will let someone know. That’s pretty bad service in my opinion. Highly recommend to stay away from this cabin and wasn’t impressed by the resort at all. Nothing like was advertised. Just a heads up.

First of all and very important: bring your own snacks, beverages and alcohol. Prices here are ridiculous since you are in the middle of nowhere. The snacks they do have are very limited for choices. There were small bags of plain chip $3, 2 kinds of chocolate bars and maybe 6 or 7 flavors of canned pop at almost $4 each. For 2 bags of chips, a chocolate bar, a water and a can of pop, I paid $17. I don't drink but people were saying a can of beer was just about $10. But when you have no other choice, you pay it. Okay, so we were there for a wedding and booked a hotel room. It was almost $240 and very basic. The bathroom was small, no tub and I killed 2 silverfish bugs in the bathroom. No microwave. No phone. No USB ports for charging devices but at least there were electrical outlets. It would have been nice if the 2 beds were queen instead of double. It did have a mini fridge and the beds were comfortable. I liked that there was no carpet however it's very noisy. You can hear everything in the hallway, the rooms beside you and above you. Something I've never ever seen in a hotel is a sign in the bathroom letting you know you will be charged $5 for a face cloth if you use it to clean makeup. They do provide black facecloths for it. I don't wear makeup so it wasn't a problem but if you do just be aware not to wipe it off with the white face cloths. The lady at the front desk was grumpy. They were pretty strict about not letting us in until very close to the 4pm check in time. Most hotels will let you in before if rooms are available and they clearly were at this hotel. So that was a little frustrating considering the wait between the wedding ceremony and the reception. Area is very scenic and the outdoor ceremony space was lovely but of course you will have to provide your own decor or hire it out. Reception area in the Pavillion was very nice. I really liked the high ceilings. Dinner and dessert were good.

Rooms were nice, but the fact that the pool was being repaired during our stay was a let down. The restaurant was bellow expectations considering the price of the meal. The food was quite bland and the quality of the ingredients was not there for every meal that our group ordered. Our waiter was nice and available.

My recent stay at The Wilds Resort at Salmonier was nothing short of exceptional, deserving every one of its five stars. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the resort's stunning natural beauty – the serene Salmonier River, the lush, meticulously maintained grounds, and the tranquil atmosphere that truly makes it an escape from the everyday. The accommodations were impeccable, offering a perfect blend of comfort and elegance. Every detail, from the tasteful decor to the pristine condition, contributed to a truly relaxing and luxurious experience. The service was equally outstanding; every staff member I encountered was warm, professional, and genuinely committed to ensuring a memorable visit. Their attentiveness truly elevated the entire experience. A particular highlight of my stay was witnessing a beautiful wedding celebration on the grounds. The setting was absolutely picturesque, and seeing the joy and palpable love shared by the couple and their guests was profoundly moving. It was a powerful reminder of the enduring beauty and significance of connection and partnership. Amidst the stunning backdrop of The Wilds, observing such a heartfelt union truly underscored for me the essential role of love in our lives – a realization that resonated deeply and beautifully throughout my time there. Whether you're seeking a serene getaway, an adventurous golf retreat, or a perfect venue for life's most cherished celebrations, The Wilds Resort offers an unparalleled experience. It's more than just a place to stay; it's a destination where beauty, tranquility, and the spirit of connection converge. I wholeheartedly recommend it and eagerly anticipate my next visit.

Salmonier Nature Park, located on the east coast of the province, is a hub for environmental education and offers a unique opportunity to observe Newfoundland and Labrador's wildlife up close. The park features diverse plant life, insect species, and varied landscapes. Visitors can stroll along a smooth boardwalk with numerous interpretive signs providing insights into the natural history of the area. The park is wheelchair-accessible, making it inclusive for all visitors.
It's Free! A wonderful interpretive center with lots of helpful, knowledgeable staff and some impressive taxidermy work - true museum quality. The information presented was helpful, accurate and sometimes surprising. There is a fabulous 3km long boardwalk trail that takes you through the boreal forest setting, and the trail is punctuated by placards and enclosures where you MAY see some of the rescued wildlife that for one reason or another is not a candidate for release. They do wildlife rescue work - with a focus on treatment and release back into the wild. We saw several, but the trail (longish but accessible! A mix of shade, dappled light and occasional direct sun, but mostly sheltered from winds) is worth it all on its own; a beautiful, peaceful place. While we were there (mid June), there were a couple of busloads of students in the center and on the trails, in addition to the usual local families and us tourists - and there was plenty of room for us all. Highly recommend, and the number of families (locals) there with kids and strollers making obvious repeat visits suggest they do to!
Bill D — Google review
If you’re looking for a nice walk on a boardwalk with animals to check out along the way, you found it! This nature park has a range of animals who can no longer live on their own in the wild, with lots of their own space. Yes, that means that sometimes you don’t get to see the animal you wanted, but they deserve to have peace sometimes too! Great place for a family trip or just a weekend visit.
Kray M — Google review
I really enjoyed my afternoon here. The boardwalk is easy to navigate. I'm addition to the wildlife there were lots of birds in the forest. I didn't spot all of the wildlife so I'll need to try again. A great way to spend a day in nature. It's also free and there is a donation box if you so choose.

Salmonier Nature Park offers a peaceful and family-friendly escape into Newfoundland’s wild heart. You’ll wander along a tranquil 3 km boardwalk—completely stroller and wheelchair-accessible—through lush boreal surroundings dotted with chances to glimpse rehabilitated wildlife living in natural settings. The experience is both enriching and beautifully maintained, and with free admission, it’s a perfect outing for nature lovers, families, and curious explorers alike.
Ye Z — Google review
Well let me say it's free to get in that's great and the whole thing is boardwalk so you can walk it in sandals you don't need hiking shoes on.I like looking on the inside at the different animals like polar bears. The outside I believe is a 2 km walk I was told. Takes about an hour or if you just walk without stopping. I got there around lunch that just happened to be the time I was driving by. But you can't see any of the larger animals during that time in the day they're all hidden. If you want to see some larger animals like the Caribou or the moose you have to go first thing in the morning and to avoid all the kids. I know this is a kid thing but with all the screaming and having 30 kids behind you you're not going to see nothing. Best bet get there right at 9:00 a.m. or whenever they open. The smaller animals I got to see if you don't mind seeing them in cages. It's a shame to see great horned owls and foxes in cages. Oh and when I got there at 12:00 p.m. the parking lot was full there is a large parking lot but it was mostly full. That's how busy it is at that time.
Jo L — Google review
Amazing free trail and little exhibition center. Takes you through some different landscapes of Newfoundland. If you're interested in plants, there are a ton of pitcher plants right beside the trail which I found super cool. The forest itself has plenty of wildlife that aren't on the trail, like squirrels, Canada Jays, Black Backed Woodpeckers, and dragon flies! Well worth the stop!
Rose A — Google review
Such a nice walk. The trail is well maintained and a complete board walk so you don't have to worry about mud or anything. Didn't get to see every animal, but most of them were out. Completely free.
Hayley K — Google review
Super cool place to check out if you have the time! It's a very natural setting for the animals so you won't always see them, but be patient and wait and your chances of seeing the animals gets much better !

Visitors can engage in various activities such as meeting Newfoundland dogs, sampling local cuisine, enjoying traditional music performances, and exploring the province's contribution to air travel development.
We visited The Rooms in St. John's, yesterday. It was Canada Day, and entry was free — we didn’t know that in advance, so it was a nice surprise! The place was beautiful and very interesting. It includes two art galleries and three museum sections. If you enjoy museums, this is definitely a place you'll love. To explore everything properly and take your time reading through the exhibits, expect to spend at least two hours or more. The washrooms were clean, and the gift shop was lovely, it had a great selection of local products at reasonable prices, which isn’t always the case in museum gift shops. Highly recommended for anyone visiting St. John's!

I visited a few weeks ago with my child and had a great time. The WWI exhibit for the Royal Newfoundland Regiment was well put together and very informative. They had also many activities for children throughout. It was interesting to see all the Canada Games medals in the archives area. The view of the harbour was great too.

A true gem in the heart of St. John's, The Rooms is an absolute must-visit for locals and tourists alike. The experience begins before you even step inside; the building itself is a gorgeous piece of architecture that beautifully complements the city's skyline. One of the first things you'll appreciate is the fair and reasonable admission price. It’s great value for the quality and scale of the facility. They also have special times when students can get in for free, which is a fantastic initiative to make arts and culture accessible to everyone. Once inside, the art gallery and museum collections are simply stunning. Everything is so wonderfully put together and immaculately kept. You can feel the passion and care that goes into every exhibit. It's clear that whoever is in charge of the galleries has a great love for what they do, as the attention to detail is evident everywhere you look. It makes for a truly immersive and enjoyable experience as you explore Newfoundland and Labrador's rich history and vibrant arts scene. Beyond the exhibits, the amenities are top-notch. The gift shop is incredibly cute and boasts a wide selection of amazing Newfoundland merchandise, as well as items specific to The Rooms. And while it deserves its own separate review, I have to mention that the on-site cafe is amazing. Overall, The Rooms is a world-class facility that St. John's should be incredibly proud of. I can't recommend it enough.

Fantastic museum, I really enjoy the art gallery of the Newfoundland local artist. Amazing pieces. And we learned about the history of indigenous people. It was so touching. And we found the interaction between the public the organizers is also very interesting. Ppl are creating their art pieces in The Rooms at night on Friday. Then there’s a wall full of their artwork.

The Rooms turned out to be one of the must explore stops in St. John’s. I spent a couple of hours exploring and could’ve easily stayed longer. The exhibits on Newfoundland’s history, especially the personal artifacts from people before and during the world wars, really made me pause. The whale section was another highlight, something you don’t forget quickly, the carved whale skull alone is massive, stretching several feet across, and it really gives you a sense of just how enormous these creatures are. And of course, the view from upstairs is worth the visit on its own, looking out over the harbour and Signal Hill is just beautiful. If you like reading through every exhibit, plan for most of a day. Otherwise, a few hours is enough to get a real feel. Either way, it’s a place that leaves an impression.

A great experience. Loved the way it was set up. Museum and art and archives. Lots of displays on history of the area and the indigenous people. Well done. Enjoyed the section on the War effort and how it affected the Area. Great displays of uniforms and many photos. There was a Manders O’Bryne who played music for almost the entire time we were there. He was wonderful. Added a lot to the experience since we could hear him all through the museum.

Very well put together museum with a few floors to explore. There's even a bistro type restaurant on the top floor to eat or have food and drink. This is one place I wanted to visit on my trip and it certainly didn't disappoint. There was so much information about the island with so many exhibits and explanations to go with everything. It's an awesome place to visit if it's your first time visiting and want to spend an afternoon or the day somewhere by yourself or others. It was also surprisingly clean with how big it is. I don't think I even got to see everything but my favorite is seeing all the preserved artifacts of real life things they used to use over the years for transport etc.

Signal Hill National Historic Site in St. John's, Newfoundland, is a former military defense site that now offers hiking trails and guided tours. The site provides breathtaking panoramic views of downtown St. John's, The Narrows, and the harbor. Visitors can also visit the landmark Cabot Tower on Signal Hill and enjoy dining at a restaurant nearby with paintings displaying Newfoundland's oceanic landscape.
I feel extremely blessed to live roughly ten minutes away from such a beautiful historic site, rife with information and rich in history. The hiking trails are what I enjoy the most; although, the activities throughout the grounds are plentiful. You can hike, bird-watch, check out the sunrise/sunset, visit Cabot Tower, watch the Tattoo reenactment - plus more! If you are heading up on a nice day, be sure to leave a little earlier than planned to give yourself time to find a parking spot. If a visit at night is expected, make sure to bring some extra layers in case the winds are high as it can be much cooler than it seems.

We visited Signal Hill twice – once in the early morning and again in the evening to catch the sunset – and both times offered a unique experience. Even though the place was quite crowded, it never felt crowded. There’s something about the wide-open views and peaceful energy that makes it feel spacious and serene. From the top, you get a breathtaking panoramic view of St. John’s, the coastline, the lighthouse, and the charming Battery area below. It’s the kind of view that makes you pause and truly take in the moment. The cool breeze, peaceful atmosphere, and stunning scenery made this spot perfect for anyone seeking a moment of mindfulness or quiet reflection. Whether you're into photography, nature, or just want to escape the city's buzz for a bit – Signal Hill is definitely worth your time. Highly recommended for both early risers and sunset chasers!

The walk to Signal Hill from downtown St. John’s is definitely worth it. You walk along the ocean and at the beginning you see lots of colorful, unique houses — really fantastic. Later on, you get breathtaking views of the cliffs. Make sure to bring something to eat and drink, because you’ll need it. There are some steep climbs and stairways to get to the very top — wow! But the view is 100% worth every step.

What a great place to visit, so much history, mostly things you’ve heard but so much more happened here. This is a must see when you come to this amazing province (a bucket list historic site for certain). Once you walk around the site it’s a great place to boat watch. There are plenty of vantage points to what the ships enter and leave the harbour.
Ian S — Google review
For breathtaking views, great outdoor activity and a history lesson I recommend. The hike up the hill on average is about 30 mins. A bit of a work out but worth it hen you get to the top. You can also drive up but I prefer to do the walk because of the scenery and the people you meet going up. If you’re in St. John’s do signal hill! I only took video this time going up. But here are a few pictures of my 8am morning walk.
Kashima W — Google review
Amazing views and photo opportunities. Hiking down the trails was mostly easy with a few more tricky sections with uneven rocks. Just take your time, especially during the climb back up. Lots of stairs which are well built and maintained, but still challenging.
Craig R — Google review
Hiking Trail Review North Head Trail Loop - 2.5 Miles Trail head is very easy to find and there are loads of parking spots. There are multiple other nearby lots and intersecting trails. This trail itself is breathtaking and stunning. Truly gorgeous views and tons of local history associated with it. Rocky and lots of stairs, you will be sucking wind at certain points but absolutely worth every moment.

This was easily one of the highlights of our trip! Signal Hill offers not only some of the most beautiful hikes we’ve ever taken, but also breathtaking views in every direction. On top of the scenery, the area is filled with fascinating history — it’s famously where Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal in 1901, a groundbreaking moment in communication history. Whether you’re into hiking, photography, or just want to soak in Newfoundland’s beauty and heritage, Signal Hill is an absolute must-do.

Cabot Tower, a late Gothic Revival sandstone monument, stands tall with its 50-ft. octagonal tower on Signal Hill, a national historic site in St. John's. The tower offers one of the best panoramic views of the city and has been watching over St. John's since 1900.
Just a quick ride from downtown, or a beautiful hike from downtown! Great views of the harbour, the narrows, downtown, and the Atlantic Ocean. A must visit while in St. John’s!

If you're looking for a view that you'll remember for the rest of your days, this is it! St. John's and the Atlantic both look absolutely breathtaking! If you're planning on parking at the top, you should show up early. We never had an issue getting a spot. There is also a quaint little gift shop, reasonably priced.
Bryan H — Google review
Walking from downtown St. John’s up to Cabot Tower, perched on Signal Hill, is an unforgettable experience. The path is full of ups and downs, quite literally — but every step is worth it. From the start, you’re surrounded by colorful houses, the fresh Atlantic breeze, and stunning views of the harbour. As you climb higher, the walk becomes more challenging, but the scenery gets more and more breathtaking. Once at the top, the view from the tower is simply incredible: the vast ocean, the strong wind, and the historical feel of the place make it all the more special. In short, it was a wonderful walk — tough at times, but absolutely worth it. If you’re in St. John’s, don’t miss it. Put on your walking shoes, take your time, and enjoy one of the most iconic spots in Newfoundland.

Lots of hiking trails, beautiful views of the Harbour. Difficulty to find parking in busy season. Gift shop in the tower, No washrooms at the tower. You will need to go to information centre down the hill

Cool spot, great little gift shop and a cool rooftop patio.... It's kind of a tourist 'must do'. Take heed you need to be part mountain goat if you do any hiking, also take a hat because it's windy.
B.R. N — Google review
This is quite small but it's free to enter. On a windy day, you can have a short respite here. It's got a few interesting informative displays. The views from the roof are good on a clear day.

Breathtaking view of the whole city of St John’s and the wild Atlantic Ocean! It gets windy up there so come prepared! Say hi to Sable the Newfoundland dog!!!

Great views from there. This is the landmark where Marconi received a wireless signal from Europe. Tesla did it years earlier but didn't patent it. Still, this is the place that proved to the world that radio was possible

Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site, located in St. John's, is a museum that delves into the history of lighthouses and their significance in maritime navigation. Housed in a restored 1836 lighthouse, the museum features exhibits on navigation, communication, and sea safety. Notably, visitors can explore original fog alarm machinery at The Fog Alarm exhibit and learn about semaphore communication at The Signal Station.
Beautiful historical spot with stunning views! We visited Cape Spear Lighthouse yesterday and had a great experience. The site is full of fascinating details, especially inside the lighthouse house — it really gives you a glimpse into the past. The view over the Atlantic Ocean is absolutely breathtaking. We were lucky enough to spot whales from there! The house tour was free yesterday, no ticket needed. There’s a parking area, a gift shop, a small art gallery, a cozy café, and clean public restrooms in the lower area. Overall, it’s a must-see if you're in the area. Highly recommended!

We were there in early September, on a weekday, so there weren't many people. The place itself has an interesting military history, which you can read about on the information displays. And the nature and ocean views are just fantastic! You can come here on your own (there is parking) or book a tour from St. John's.
Yuliia — Google review
We chose a rainy, foggy, windy and cold day to visit this Easternmost point of North America. But we were not deterred. We enjoyed visiting the historic lighthouse and exploring the many vantage points of this beautiful location. I was particularly interested in Fort Cape Spear's World War Two history as a coastal defence artillery battery. Some of the guns are still there, as well as ammunition bunkers and tunnels. We didn't see any whales because, frankly, we couldn't see the water because of the fog. Otherwise, it was a great place to visit.
Dan T — Google review
Amazing walking trails and lighthouses! Walk along the coast. Around the lighthouses. See the old gun batteries from WWII (what’s left of them) and stand at the eastern most point in Canada. Trails are easy walking, some steps and inclines. Well worth the visit.
Richard W — Google review
such a wonderful place, lots of history and incredible scenery, we had fantastic weather so it was even more amazing. and to be at the most eastern point in north america, WOW. i would definitely recommend stopping here on your tour on this beautiful province.
Ian S — Google review
You can’t go wrong by standing at the most eastern point in North America. They have done an amazing job putting in boardwalks and stairs on most of their uphill climbs. Just an awesome place for sightseeing and hiking.
N T — Google review
Beautiful scenery. We observed many whales jumping, blowing air, and flicking their tails! Although binnoculars would definitely help with the experience. Many people around but not overwhelming. We didn't visit the tourist sites as we had short timelines. Gorgeous spot. Eastern most spot in North America!! Worth the drive, about 20 minute drive outside St. Johns.

Just amazing. Quiet despite tourists. Nice historic frozen in time light house with amazing stories and lifestyle of time long gone! Interesting defense concept, which i personally believe should be revived. Lovely café and gift shop. I recommend to visit when you do a NFL trip.

O'Brien's Whale and Bird Tours

When visiting Newfoundland, a must-do experience is O'Brien's Whale and Bird Tours in Bay Bulls. Departing from the Avalon Peninsula, the tour ventures through the Witless Bay Ecological Preserve, home to the largest Atlantic Puffin colony in North America. With 17 species of sea mammals present, including humpbacks, minkes, dolphins, and porpoises, it offers exceptional whale watching opportunities.
Our group of 8 really loved this boat tour! We bought our tickets online ahead of time and so you just need to go into the gift shop to get actual tickets printed before boarding the boat. We went at 2pm and the boat felt full but not crowded, still lots of room to move around and get to the railing to see the different sights. Also, lots of space for parking near the boat and behind the gift shop. We were able to see humpback whales, puffins, plus all kinds of other birds along Gull Island. We even had a treat on the way back of seeing a pod of Atlantic white-sided dolphins swim alongside and playing! It was fantastic! The crew were fabulous, keeping us feeling safe, informed about what we were seeing and laughing along with their jokes! Even had one playing live, traditional songs on guitar for us throughout the ride. There is also a small bar and bathroom on-board, for anyone wondering. Overall we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and felt it was money well spent for an iconic activity! We're hoping to bring more family and friends when the next group visit!

We went out with O’Brien’s Whale and Bird Tours in Bay Bulls, and it was fantastic. It’s called the whale and puffin tour, but we knew it wasn’t whale season. That didn’t matter, because when we got to Gull Island there were puffins everywhere. It reminded me of that scene in How to Train Your Dragon when all the dragons fly back to Dragon Island — the sky was full of them. 😁 Our guide, Liam, was a highlight of the whole trip. He’s young but absolutely made for this. He shared so much knowledge in a way that was easy to follow, kept everyone involved, and even sang four songs along the way. His enthusiasm was contagious! On the way back, someone saw dolphins in the distance. Our captain immediately turned the boat so we could get closer, and before long we were surrounded by them, moving quickly through the water. It was so cool to see! This cruise ended up being an alternative after our fishing tour was canceled, but I’m so glad we did it. O’Brien’s gave us a wonderful few hours on the water, and I’d absolutely recommend them. Again, thank you to Liam and crew!
Jessica C — Google review
It was a beautiful day to be on the water. Wrong time of year to see whales but we did see and learn about the Puffins and saw a large sun fish. The staff were fantastic, knowledgeable and entertaining. Lots of singing. We used the shuttle service which was great because it’s a bit of a drive from St John’s. I would definitely book with the O’Briens again. Thank you again for the wonderful experience.
Patricia V — Google review
Absolutely an amazing experience. It’s a must do. Recommend getting screeched in while aboard! Every single member of staff was super nice and they really wanted everyone to have a great experience. Really appreciated their patience in making sure everyone got a view of the humpback whales! Such pleasure to be out on the boat with these guys. Suggestion: dress warmer than you think you need to! Really loved the experience.
Nikiii J — Google review
As expected, we didn’t see any whales since they migrate away during this time of year. But we did see eagles, and puffin, as well as the breathtaking landscape around us. The tour guides were informative, funny, and entertaining. There is Irish music playing during the whole tour, and I enjoyed it. I would definitely take this tour again if I’m here in the future.
Karlotta P — Google review
My family and I booked tickets with O’Brien’s whale & bird tours and we were so happy with our trip! The crew were so friendly and knowledgeable - throughout the trip the staff talked about the history of the land, the common birds on Gull island, and added some cute humour as well! The captain of the ship was able to get us right close to the island so we could see the birds. On our journey back we were provided live entertainment in the styling of Newfoundland music. For anyone questioning which tour to book with, I highly suggest this one! While it’s not guaranteed to see any sea life, you will definitely see puffins, common murres, and kittiwakes.
Katelynn N — Google review
Very cool tour. Millions of birds but we got shafted on whales. Maybe ease up on the waves thing on the way back. That doesn't seem necessary. Super nice day, kinda cool but sunny. Liam needs to work on his vocals tho, almost put you at 4 stars strictly for his performance. Need someone to write him better jokes as well.
Aaron H — Google review
An wonderful experience that I didn’t anticipate for. End of September is not the best time for whales, but we have chances to see eagles and puffins. staffs are knowledgeable and friendly to share and show us about the history and species, they even play guitar as entertainment. Good interaction with us passengers. highly recommended!!!

Tours
Gatherall's Puffin & Whale Watch offers an unforgettable experience on Newfoundland's east coast, where North America's largest puffin and kittiwake colonies reside. With over 90 percent of the continent's Atlantic puffins breeding in Newfoundland, visitors can witness more than two million seabirds nesting and feeding their chicks during the capelin season from mid-June to mid-July. Additionally, whales follow the capelin into Witless Bay and the surrounding waters during their annual migrations.
Absolutely the best tour experience we could’ve asked for! From start to finish, this whale and puffin watching tour was incredible. The whole crew — the captain and tour guides — were super kind, fun, and full of energy. It felt like we got a bonus stand-up comedy show along with the tour! Even before reaching the whale-watching area, we were entertained with hilarious and informative commentary that made the time fly. Their explanations about puffins and other seabirds in the North Atlantic were detailed and fascinating. Same with the whales — we learned so much while laughing the entire time! The team was incredibly professional and knew exactly where to go for the best views and photo opportunities. The scenery was breathtaking, and we managed to get some amazing photos. After the tour, we also checked out a great little gift shop at the dock — with lovely handmade crafts and fair prices. Overall, an unforgettable experience — highly, highly recommended!

We had a super great experience on our excursion. We saw a humpback whale and that was so thrilling. My partner is in a wheelchair and they went over the top to ensure she was able to see and have as good a time as anyone on the boat. Always checking in with us. The puffins were difficult to photograph with my iPhone 16pro. But my partner had a steadier hand and got a couple. Thanks for a brilliant time. We booked this trip with my family.

August 16, 2025 was a significant milestone wedding anniversary for my wife and I. Back in January when we were planning what to do, we decided to spend a few days in and around St. John's. We covered all the must sees - Signal Hill, Cape Spear, George St, and so on, but we wanted to include something special for the afternoon of the actual day. It occurred to us that we don't see that many whales in the river that flows through our small town just outside of Ottawa, so we decided to book with Gatheralls. So glad that we did! While we enjoyed everything that we saw and did in St. John's, both of us feel that this was the absolute highlight! We loved the experience. Just being out on the ocean was a cool experience. The puffins and other birds were incredible. The crew were fabulous! The singing, the jokes and laughter, the information about the puffins and other birds was fascinating - who knew that a little puffin could dive up to 200 feet into the ocean in search of food - and the screech in ceremony was hilarious. Apparently there was a two-metre swell that day and I truly came to understand what the term 'sea legs' really means. We passengers were all over the place, hanging on to seats and railings while the crew was standing and walking around like we were on dry land. Impressive! Alas no whales. So zero stars for the whales, but five truly deserved stars for everyone at Gatheralls. If we're ever in St. John's again we'll go back to give the whales a chance to redeem themselves.
Robert N — Google review
What a wonderful touring company! Their staff are friendly, entertaining, and knowledgeable. They also have a fantastic gift shop in their main building. The boat ride was smooth and steady. We were able to see puffins even at this late in the season.
N T — Google review
We totally enjoyed our Puffin and whale watch experience. We saw a lot of whales and 1000's of Puffins. They are so cute and funny to watch. All the Staff from check in to entering the boat were so friendly and informative . The Captain and staff gave us lots of local information and History and entertainment a few Songs along the way. It made for a lovely Newfoundland experience. The beautiful coast line was totally breath taking. We had a spectacular weather day as well. Thanks for making our first Newfoundland trip so memorable.
Randy — Google review
We had a fantastic puffin watching tour on a Sunday with a large group. Despite the choppy waters, the captain and the rest of the crew made the experience unforgettable. They were not only knowledgeable about the birds, ecology, and geology but also an excellent storyteller (and comedians!), keeping the group entertained throughout. They were passionate and fun, even singing songs for us! Although my husband got seasick, they went above and beyond to take care of him, which was really touching. The gift shop was well-stocked with lovely items, and the staff there were kind as well. Overall, it was an educational, fun, and memorable experience. Highly recommend :) Thanks for great day! Definitely a highlight of our trip so far!!
A N — Google review
I enjoyed the tour so much that I did it four times during my vacations in Newfoundland. The crew is very friendly, funny and knowledgeable. They make sure you see every kind of bird in the area, and if they are around, whales. You'll get lots of explanations about what you see, and you will always find a member of the crew to ask questions. Some of them are very talented singers, too! The staff do a fantastic job to make the trip a great experience for all! I hope to be back again at some point!
Thorsten B — Google review
This was such a great experience for me, my family, and friends.  The crew, Captain, and the overall service was great! We were pleased with the way the tour guides spoke to us and made sure we got to see everything and we're doing ok. This came highly recommended by friends and I can see why. You can count on us to do the same! I would like to add that there was a person who needed accommodations for their wheelchair, I was touched by the way the crew took care of the individual, making sure the individual had the same experience and was not missing out on any of the activities. We got to see whales and puffins. As a bonus, we saw dolphins too!

Amazing experience, Captain Wayne was a nice pleasant man, he showed us whales and birds, he’s highly knowledgeable and a great captain…Thank You Captain Wayne!!

Outstanding! Had our first trip with Captain Wayne 11 days ago and we enjoyed it so much that we booked a second trip. The first trip was amazing. Lots of birds to see and lots of information provided by Captain Wayne. We were lucky enough to see whales. The second trip surpassed the first. Not quite as many sea birds, but we saw eagles. Then we were treated to a small pod of 5/6 whales. One of them was having a lot of fun breaching, waving his fins and slapping his tail. One of the most incredible sights I have seen.
Delia S — Google review
I had the pleasure of taking my parents on Captain Wayne's today. I had never gone whale watching before, but some Captain Wayne came highly recommended from some friends. We could not have been happier! It's a smaller boat and they had good jackets for everyone as part of the trip. Captain Wayne was very personable. He had a wealth of knowledge on the all the different variety of birds, whales and the iceberg we saw. And he was genuinely excited to show us the wildlife. He spent just the right amount of time letting us get plenty of pictures. I would highly recommend Captain Wayne's Marine Excursion's to anyone that wanted a more intimate wildlife experience. I can't wait to go again. Thanks again, Graham
Graham C — Google review
Wonderful size tour...only 9 guests total. Captain Wayne stayed out until we got the whale tail shot . Then we "chased" a pod of dolphins to see them. We were able to look the puffins in the eyes! Captain Wayne is knowledgeable and funny. Great trip and well worth the money!

THE BEST!!! This is by far the best tour company for Whale and Bird watching tours. Captain Wayne and crew with their 50 plus years of experience are the most knowledgeable we have ever encountered. Our tour was very intimate as we sailed by thousands of puffins we had clear unubstructed views of the whales that were swimming and playing all around the bay. If you are lucky enough to visit during peak whale season I strongly recommend going on Captain Waynes. You won't regret it. Keep em Laughing Captain!!

Puffins, eagles, seagulls and murres, so many birds on Gull Island! And of course, the whales! Captain Wayne was awesome. Smaller boat so less people on board and captain Wayne is great to talk to. He's very patient and makes sure your see what you came for.
Tanya B — Google review
We spent a spectacular afternoon with Captain Wayne today, getting superb pictures of a pod of Whales feeding on Caplin in south Witless Bay. As he promised, we had whales close by virtually 360 degrees - biggest challenge was which way to look/point our camera! His smaller boat was able into the whale feeding areas the larger boats can't. Thanks for a memorable tour, Captains Wayne!
Patrick M — Google review
This tour is heavily weather dependent and we were informed by email that the date/time we booked was cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions but were given a chance to reschedule to another operating date/time which was great because our itinerary was packed. When we arrived, it was a small group (which we prefer) and it was straight forward to get sorted out and prepared. We were given special PFD coats that would keep us warm and provide the necessary safety. The coats didn’t smell and were a welcome piece of equipment as it was chilly on open water. Kids get a regular PFD to my recollection so if you have young kids, I would suggest to dress them in the appropriate layers or double check with Capt. Wayne. The boat is a comfortable ride and I felt very safe despite the open ocean trek to the island. You will get wet. Captain Wayne is knowledgeable and a good guide in providing lots of details and background about marine life and the surrounding area. You will not be disappointed. We did not see whales on our trip but we were probably nearing the end of the season so it wasn’t surprising but I bet it would have been fun to get close to them in the water. Despite that, it was a trip worth doing and I would certainly do it again.

Had a great tour. We got a little unlucky with the whales according to the other reviews. We saw two whales. One of them dove and we never saw him come back up. The other one was hanging around our boat for the rest of the tour. We went to the bird preserve/conservation area and saw a ton of birds.

Zodiacs are the best way to experience whales in their natural habitat. These guys did a great job as they answered any questions we had and did their very best to get us to the right spot for whales. Best whale watching experience I've ever had. We lucked out and had lots of whales to see today. Highly recommend them.

Very helpful friendly tour guide. In the small zodiac we felt much closer to the whales and sea birds than in the larger boat. Loads of very active whales seen on our tour. The highlight of our holiday.
Neil M — Google review
This boat tour is certainly an adventure—probably not a good idea if you’ve got a fragile stomach though. We got to see puffins and Mers and a rather large bergy bit (iceberg) up close. Though the waters were a bit rough I had complete confidence in our captain. You’ll have a new love for neon orange ;)
Rosemary B — Google review
I just got back from my whaling adventure with Tyler and I am beyond grateful for his kindness, professionalism and expertise!!! What a fantastic experience being around more than 20 whales!!! They came right to our zodiac and the photos/videos I have will prove it! I highly recommend Ecotours for all your NL whaling experiences!
Frances D — Google review
Such an amazing experience! Friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable and fun. Plus you get to be in a zodiac without 100 other people crowded around you. We were right besides 2 humpback whales within the first 10 minutes of the trip. You also don’t waste time as the boat is quick and agile. Even if we hadn’t seen whales it would have been worth it. We were taken right into a sea cave and so close to puffins that they were flying literally within feet of us. I would highly recommend ecotours for the adventurous traveller who wants a more personalized and exciting experience. Thanks Tyler and Joannna!

What an amazing tour! We had the pleasure to see the coastal cliffs of the Avalon peninsula, that demonstrated the beauty and power of nature. The puffins were a given and the whales a bonus at this time of year (mid-August). Highly recommended!

Saw 3 whales, a pack of dolphins, and hundreds of Puffins and other bird species! We felt like we were part of the search as we spotted whales with our tour guide, Ray. He shared a lot of interesting insight about the whales and birds, and had a great sense of humour. Being a smaller craft, we were able to get closer to the whales and birds than the large boats, and he also took us to a beautiful cave inlet! Highly recommend Ecotours!

This is a beautiful gift shop with the kindest staff. We locked our keys in our vehicle going to the lighthouse and the ladies in this store helped us find a local person to assist. If not for them we would have had to wait until the next day for Roadside assistance to even answer our call. Their store was already closing but they stayed until we got help.
