Lake
Nature & Parks
Moose Lake is a serene and easily accessible destination, offering a peaceful hike along the shores of Maligne Lake. The trail leads through an ancient debris pile from a landslide, showcasing lichen-covered boulders and mossy trees. Visitors can explore the Moose Lake Loop or take the longer Bald Hills Hike for stunning forest views. Situated in British Columbia, it provides scenic views from VIA Rail's route and Yellowhead Highway.
A gorgeous, pristine lake in Mount Robson Provincial Park. There is only one small pullout along the lake with a boat launch. If you get the chance, get out on the lake in a boat or kayak. Venture to the other side and discover the creeks that run into the lake, the sandy beaches or an American Pika living in the rocks.
Tania S — Google review
Wonderful Lake. Brings memories of my Grandfather. He had a store and post office at the west end of the lake on the rail line at Red Pass.
Bill L — Google review
Moose Lake is a breathtaking stop along the Yellowhead Highway that feels like stepping into a postcard. Surrounded by rugged mountains and framed by the towering peaks of the Rockies, the lake stretches out in a long, peaceful ribbon of deep blue-green water. On a calm day, the reflections of the mountains and clouds are so vivid they look almost painted. This is a place where you can truly slow down and soak in nature. It’s perfect for pulling over during a road trip, stretching your legs, and taking in the scenery. The shoreline is easily accessible in spots, making it a great place for photos, a picnic, or just sitting quietly to listen to the gentle lap of the water. If you’re lucky, you might spot wildlife in the area — moose sightings do happen, and you’ll often see birds skimming the surface. There are no big crowds or noisy facilities here, which adds to the serenity. Facilities are minimal, so it’s best to bring your own snacks, water, and anything you need. The beauty of Moose Lake is its simplicity — untouched, peaceful, and a reminder of how incredible British Columbia’s landscapes are. If you’re driving through Mount Robson Provincial Park, this is a must-see stop. Whether you stay for 10 minutes or an hour, it’s the kind of view that stays with you long after you’ve left.

Such a stunning lake! 💙 Perfect to relax during a long roadtrip. There's also a public toilet.

Stunning lake , the only lake on the side of Fraser river. Nice view and some relaxing time during road trip

We passed the Moose Lake in the province of British Columbia while doing a VIA Rail trip from Vancouver to Jasper National Park in Alberta, in July 2019. The Canadian National's Rail line and the Yellowhead Highway run along the north shore of the lake and we got very scenic views of the lake from the train window. Moose Lake is the only lake along the course of the Fraser River.

Stunning lake. Very blue and shadows make for a wonderful changing vista. Shame we couldnt walk pound it more (possibly can from other vantage points)

Ascend to the top of Whistlers Mountain on the Jasper SkyTram, the highest and longest aerial tramway in the Canadian Rockies. As you soar to an elevation of 2,263 meters (7,425 feet), breathtaking panoramas unfold before you. From craggy snow-capped peaks to pristine lakes like Pyramid and Patricia, the views are simply awe-inspiring.
We had this on our list when we got to Jasper. It was worth the cost. The views are amazing up there. You can also see the devastation from last year's fire. We opted to hike to the summit. My husband, who is 79, stopped not far from where we started but told me to go on since I was in better shape. I was past the false summit when I just decided to turn around. It was worth it to climb if you can do it but don't go past your limits if you are older. If I was younger, I would've pushed on through since I was so close but I had more hiking to do that day so that was enough for me. We ate in the Summit Cafe and shared the brisket sandwich. It was delicious!! The views from the café are spectacular.
Donna S — Google review
An excellent day out and on a good weather day well worth the effort. The scenery was stunning. The staff ( Max & Cally ) were knowledgeable and will answer questions on your journey. The tram cost about $80 each . Very safety conscious lots of information. The shop and restaurant well worth a visit to sok up the scenery and get a souvenir.
Lee J — Google review
Absolutely worth the money. It stops operating around 2nd November 2025 and back again in March. Beautiful views from the top. We were there late October so the snow made it more difficult to hike to the summit but views below submit great as well. We had a bite to eat at the restaurant.
Philip K — Google review
The Whistler Mountain Tram was a highlight of my trip to Jasper. Spectacular views of the entire region including the surrounding mountains, rivers, lakes and the town of Jasper. The tram ride is smooth and at a good pace - not too fast but not poking along either. Staff are knowledgeable, very friendly and helpful. The restaurant at the upper level is superb. Great food with impressive views. Don't miss it. The dirt hiking trail to the top is not difficult for those in good health and physical shape. But seniors and those with limitations should stick to the decks and platform areas. Bring warm clothing for the mornings and evenings but late mornings through the afternoon can be warm.

Absolutely awesome experience my mom loved her experience it was first time for me and mom it was a great trip to jasper and definitely something everyone should do try the view from up there is breath taking go sit up the rocks meditate get ur energy flowing breathe it’s a place of peace and abt the sky team service it was absolutely amazing they took care of us down there real quick got us in comfortable up there the cage staff was awesome aswell very helpful polite and smiling . Love the whole experience . Would definitely visit again .
Forevertattoo A — Google review
The tram “drivers” were friendly and informative. It had recently snowed and was very windy at the top. We didn’t hike to the peak as we were not appropriately dressed for the winter-like weather. Amazing views and the food at the top was phenomenal
J H — Google review
An essential part of the Jasper Experience!. What a rush from starting slow out of the station to picking up some speed on the line and ascending that mountain in no time - and it's steep. The little boardwalk at the top is perfect for just relaxing but there are also many trails to explore and how easy after being plopped right onto the peak of Whistlers Mountain. LOVE THIS! ENDLESS VIEWS!
The H — Google review
Worth the experience. Fun ride up and back with amazing views and knowledgeable guides giving interesting information. Lots to explore and see on top so wear good hiking footwear and bring layers, water and a snack.

Nestled in Jasper National Park, Patricia Lake is a serene and picturesque destination offering a range of activities for nature enthusiasts. The 5km loop around the lake provides stunning views of meadows, valleys, and possibly wildlife sightings such as elk and moose. For more adventurous hikers, the trail to Geraldine Lakes offers options for both easy and challenging treks. Visitors can also enjoy stand-up paddleboarding on the tranquil waters or try yoga on a paddleboard for a unique experience.
We were staying at the Patricia lake bungalows and the bungalows is right facing the lakes. The water is quite clear and there is a dock where you may explore the beauty by boats. Come in the autumn and it is worth visiting for several times.

This was one of the best places I stayed on my vacation to Canada. I saw lots of action with bears and wildlife. I would definitely come here again.👍👍

A really beautiful Lake about a 45 minute walk from Jasper, with its clear water and stunning surroundings, it is easy to see why it is a very popular Lake to visit for tourists on the way to pyramid Lake, mainly due to the easy access by car. If you walk here, bring bear spray. Lake freezes Iver in the winter.

Stunning location. One of the most beautiful spots in Jasper National Park. It’s amazing how peaceful this place is. You really get impressed by the nature. Definitely is a must seen location!
Marcio R — Google review
A very nice lake to take a canoe on and paddle around. Parking unfortunately is rather sparse and it can get quite busy. They have different types of watercraft and the only motorized is an electric boat which is nice for keeping it peaceful. We took a canoe out for an hour and that was plenty. They also have kayaks, paddle boats, row boats and a motorized family carrier.

Another beautiful lake within 5 minutes of Downtown Jasper. The crystal clear waters of the lake are worth viewing during clear days.

Jasper Park Information Centre

Visitor center
Association / Organization
Jasper Park Information Centre is a historic cobblestone-and-timber building that serves as the visitor center for Jasper National Park. Originally built in 1914 as the park administration building, it now offers maps, travel tips, and information on trails, backcountry hiking, wildlife viewing, and interpretive programs. Designed by architect A.M. Calderon, this National Historic Site is a prime example of rustic Canadian architecture. Visitors can also explore the gift shop for souvenirs.
The Jasper Information Centre is an absolute treasure and the perfect starting point for any adventure in Jasper National Park. Housed in a beautifully preserved heritage building right in the heart of town, the centre offers not only practical information but a warm, welcoming atmosphere that immediately makes you feel connected to the spirit of the Rockies. The staff here are phenomenal—knowledgeable, friendly, and truly passionate about the area. Whether you’re planning a multi-day hike, looking for hidden gem viewpoints, or just trying to figure out where to spot wildlife, they go above and beyond to help you tailor your visit. Their insider tips made our trip unforgettable. Beyond the helpful advice, the building itself is worth a visit. The rustic stone-and-log architecture is iconic, and there's a real sense of history in its walls. There are informative displays about the park’s geology, wildlife, and history, which make it a great little stop even on a rainy day. We left with detailed maps, new hiking ideas, and a deeper appreciation for Jasper. This place sets the tone for everything that makes the park so special—nature, heritage, and warm Canadian hospitality. Don’t miss it—your Jasper experience will be so much better if you start here.
Vipul B — Google review
Small visitor center in the middle of town in a lovely historic building. I wish there was more to it, especially considering the significance of the park, but the town is small. There aren't any displays or information to speak of, but the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Also, come back at night and there are some neat illuminated sections. Jasper the bear is right around the corner. Too bad the gift shop was not open when we went, since it looked interesting and better to support Parks Canada. No free parking.

As a local taxi service provider in Jasper, I’ve had the pleasure of regularly picking up and dropping off guests at Forest Park Hotel. From what I’ve seen, the hotel maintains a high standard of hospitality and cleanliness. The staff are always courteous, organized, and professional, which makes our job easier and creates a smooth experience for visitors. Guests often share positive feedback with us about their stay—mentioning the comfort of the rooms, the helpful service, and the beautiful surroundings. The location is also convenient for transportation, with easy access and a well-managed front entrance. Forest Park Hotel is clearly committed to guest satisfaction, and it shows. We’re proud to serve their guests and look forward to continuing our partnership!
MM T — Google review
Compared to Banff town, this place feels much quieter. There are fewer busy shopping streets and more residential areas surrounded by mountains, creating a peaceful atmosphere. The restaurants are a bit pricey, but the environment is very pleasant and a good place to enjoy dinner after coming down from the mountains. Just keep in mind that most shops close around 9pm

I love HWY93, we start from Bang but next winter we will go from Jasper, I really think this is one of the most magnificent drive in NA, Jasper Park also has quite a lot to offer, from fine dining tp casual cafes, lots and lots of trails to bike, hike, walk, amazing lakes, even if you are at! 5% to go there, trust you will not regret it.

Mount Edith Cavell, located in Jasper National Park, is a picturesque mountain offering various hiking and climbing trails with stunning views of the distinctive glacier. The 8.4 km Mount Edith Cavell Meadows Trail is a must-see, leading to three incredible viewpoints showcasing the Cavell Pond, Angel Glacier, and Sorrow Peak.
It’s one of the hidden gems in Jasper. The view is breathtaking and celestial. The roads are damaged due to the catastrophic Jasper fire of 2024. I am unsure when they will be reopened.
Tabassum H — Google review
This mountain and lakes should definitely be on the list of visitors! Take comfortable shoes as the path will not be very winding and in stones. The glacier hanging over the lake and pieces of ice in the water is fascinating!
Ольга Д — Google review
This is a medium level hike. Some areas are steep, slippery and be cautious. This is my favorite place in Jasper. Stunning and panoramic view. Couldn’t go until end of the trail due to time limitation but definitely come back. Parking is very tight. You have to come early morning. Winding roads.
Sepali S — Google review
One of the most beautiful mountains and hikes in the world. The drive to the top where the parking area is amazing. This place is a must visit while in Jasper. The parking lot gets full though and it can be hard to find parking so come very early or very late.
Punit J — Google review
My favourite place, the most beautiful mountain view with glacier falls and lake in the middle. Good for everyone easy to hike. Make sure to arrive early for the parking lot.
Jecil — Google review
One of the most beautiful places we have visited. A road of about a kilometer and a half leads to a beautiful blue lake where ice floats. The leading road is full of many beautiful stones and the lake is bordered by a huge glacier. The height of the mountain is 3,633 meters above sea level and the Angel Glacier is a glacier that flows down the northern slope of Mount Edith Cowell. The mountain is named after the British nurse Edith Cowell who was executed by the Germans in the First World War. To get to Mount Edith Cavell's parking lot, drive from Jasper on Highway 93 (Glacier Highway) and shortly after passing the entrance to the park, turn right onto Highway 93A.
Yossi G — Google review
So cool. One of the best hikes I have done in Alberta! Saw a piece of glacier fall off yesterday which was so cool and a little sad. Trail gets hard near the top of mountain, but good for the heart 🫀. Well kept trail and the end is above the tree line which is interesting . The plants were cool.
Noa S — Google review
Parking lot is really small, I had to wait for about 20 minutes to park. Trail distance is very friendly, only 700m from parking lot to the small pond at the foot of the glacier. It is shrinking, it will disappear some day. The water in the pond is really cold, some small icebergs are floating in the pond. A nice, small place to observe and feel glacier.

Maligne Canyon

Outdoor Activities
Maligne Canyon, located in Jasper National Park, is a stunning 50-meter limestone canyon known for its waterfalls and captivating scenery. Hiking along the Maligne River offers picturesque views and photo opportunities, especially starting at the 6th bridge. Despite its name meaning 'malignant' or 'wicked,' the only wicked thing about this place is the awe-inspiring beauty it offers.
If you’re in Jasper, this is stop number one. There’s a parking area where you can start exploring downstream. Along with stunning nature, you’ll find bridges over scenic canyons, beautiful nooks, and breathtaking waterfalls below. You can do a short loop and return to your car, or you can go all the way down, though it will take longer. We were even lucky enough to spot some deer greeting us right at the parking lot.
Cirrus S — Google review
The tour bus stopped at a lookout. You can see the canyon and the entire surrounding area. This was the best spot to see all of the damage caused by the wildfires. It was incredible (and a little sad) to see what has become of this area. So much of the area looked like scorched earth, yet it is still majestic and beautiful. What was very interesting is that this fire was driven by high winds (65+ mph) and many of the burnt trees feel in the same direction, almost like dominos). There were also some small patches that were left unscathed, and how does that even happen?! Such beautiful country. Worth the trip!
Scott W — Google review
Maligne Canyon is one of the most spectacular natural attractions in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. Carved over thousands of years by the Maligne River, this stunning limestone gorge plunges to depths of over 50 meters (160 feet), making it the deepest canyon in the park. Visitors can explore the canyon via a well-maintained trail system that crosses six bridges, each offering unique viewpoints of roaring waterfalls, swirling whirlpools, and steep canyon walls. The first and second bridges provide the most dramatic views, where the narrow canyon walls close in around the rushing water below. In summer, the area is vibrant with lush greenery and wildflowers, while in winter, Maligne Canyon transforms into a magical world of frozen waterfalls and icy caverns, perfect for guided ice walks. The canyon’s geology and hydrology are fascinating too—some of the river’s water mysteriously disappears underground and resurfaces miles away at Medicine Lake. Whether you're a casual walker or an avid adventurer, Maligne Canyon is a must-visit destination that showcases the raw beauty and power of nature in the Canadian Rockies.
Afaq J — Google review
What a great way to fill your eyes with beauty after a long day 🥰 Way more worth than the touristy Jonhston Canyon. Accesible for families, I did that short walk after a long hike. Would recommend!
Lena G — Google review
Before heading to Maligne Lake, a visit to the canyon is generally organized. It's good that you can visit it pretty much anytime, even with a cloudy weather and it doesn't degrade the experience. Walking around is easy.
Stanislas T — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking place. I loved every moment at the canyon, nature is truly amazing. Hiking from bridge 1 to 5 is a steep downhill, you have to climb up to get back to where you started. Wear shoes with good grip and treat yourself at the tea house by the parking lot.
Zsuzsanna S — Google review
I hiked the trail at Maligne Canyon in Jasper, and I couldn’t help but drop my jaw at the sheer beauty of it. Gorgeous, stunning, and downright marvellous! The canyon felt like nature's masterpiece, revealing a cross-section of Earth's ecological evolution in the most dramatic way. Every twist and turn of the trail seemed to unveil something new and breathtaking. It’s not just a sight to see—it’s an experience, one that immerses you in the power and history of nature. Maligne Canyon is a must-visit, a place that leaves you both humbled and awestruck by the forces that have shaped our planet over millions of years.
Peter S — Google review
Spectacular trail that follows a canyon in Jasper National Park. Waterfalls all along and bridges that cross and allow amazing views of the water below. The rock erosion creates patterns and tones that pictures don't quite convey An absolute must for waterfall fans such as us!

Athabasca Falls, located on the upper Athabasca River just west of the Icefields Parkway, is a remarkable waterfall known for its powerful force and stunning beauty. While not the tallest in the Canadian Rockies at 23 meters, it impresses with its large volume of glacial water forced through a narrow gorge. The surrounding pine forests and mountains provide an iconic Canadian backdrop that can be admired from convenient viewpoints along the trail and a footbridge across the canyon.
These falls were fantastic. The thunderous sound reminds you of the power of water and of nature. Seeing the rainbow as the water passes over the falls was an added bonus! Truly a must for anyone visiting Jasper National Park.
Onthegoboomer — Google review
This is another waterfall that you really need to stop at. Plenty of parking even for RVs. It was a short walk to the waterfall. There is a trail that you can walk around to see the waterfall. Definitely stop here when driving the Parkway.

We visited Athabasca Falls and loved it! The waterfall is powerful and the scenery around is breathtaking, with the Rocky Mountains all around. Great place to click pictures and enjoy nature — definitely worth a stop if you’re in Jasper.
Mohit S — Google review
Very pretty fall, the best fast falling with high intensity fall, beautiful views, you can soak in the nature, breathe in and take nice pictures. The parking lot is decent, there’s washrooms and short walk so definitely must try! The whole area can be viewed on wooden planks so super easy.

Athabasca Falls is absolutely breathtaking! The waterfalls are powerful and mesmerizing, surrounded by incredible mountain scenery. Walking through the footpaths is a stunning experience — every turn offers something new to see and appreciate. Even though the area was affected by the fires, its beauty and strength still shine through. It’s a must-see stop in Jasper — peaceful, scenic, and a true reminder of nature’s resilience. 🌿💧We visited October 2025 and it’s less crowded dress accordingly. Weather conditions change drastically.

Bodies of Water
Horseshoe Lake, located in Jasper National Park, is a stunning natural swimming spot and a popular destination for canoeing. The lake's clear turquoise water allows for excellent visibility of the fish below, making it perfect for various water activities. Surrounded by towering cliffs and dense pine forest, Horseshoe Lake offers breathtaking natural scenery and is relatively less crowded compared to other lakes in the area.
A day that will never be forgotten, The whole area is breathtaking, 1 week before Jasper burnt down. If this place is still good to go after the fires, my tips would be only going on a really hot day if you're going to swim. And do not lather on sunscreen. You're only going to pollute this amazing lake. also I can get very busy parking can be a problem and there isn't a whole lot of places to get back up after jumping in so you probably want to bring a floatie so you don't have to swim so far
Richard M — Google review
Easy loop hike for less than 3o minutes. Saw few people went out to swim in this beautiful beach/lake. They have their own private spots which is great. Dead trees and burnt logs are evident throughout the side of the trail but nevertheless, greenery are starting to grow. There's a public restroom on the start of the trail.
Dally W — Google review
Such a beautiful little lake! Crystal clear water, surrounded by rocks and forest, and not too crowded compared to other spots in Jasper. I went paddle boarding here and it was perfect - calm, clear, and peaceful. People also come here to cliff jump, but even just sitting by the water feels amazing. Definitely one of my favorite spots.
Daria S — Google review
Fun and safe easy cliff jumping- less than 20 feet available, water is clear and refreshing. Definitely a great place to go relax, chill, swim around a little bit and have fun! Would highly recommend
Jacob D — Google review
Horseshoe Lake wasn’t on our original plan, but we’re so glad we made the stop. Located just off the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park, this hidden gem is a beautiful, peaceful spot with crystal-clear turquoise water and dramatic rock formations. Way less crowded than the big-name lakes, and perfect for relaxing, taking photos, or even a cliff jump if you're feeling adventurous. Definitely worth the detour!
Chris — Google review
Not signposted, but you see the lake on your left driving towards Banff. Small car park. 30 mins loop “inside” the horseshoe. Beautiful views
Philip K — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous lake just a short walk from the highway. The trail is clear to the lake then meanders along up and down the hillside, watch for roots and tripping hazards. The water is clear and cold but super refreshing on a hot day. If you're brave enough (or stupid enough) you can jump off the cliffs into the water. We didn't but saw others doing it; you'd definitely need to know exactly where to jump but there are places where the water is extremely deep. There is also an outhouse and garbage bins in the parking lot.

Sad to see it post wildfire, but still a beautiful lake and fun to cliff jump into.

Sulphur Skyline Trail is a signature hike in Jasper National Park, offering a challenging yet rewarding experience. The trail begins near Miette Hot Springs and leads hikers through a forested area with steep switchbacks before reaching the tree line. As you ascend, the panoramic views become more expansive until you reach the ridge-line summit. What a beautiful trail. Here's the info and experience I couldn't find out before arriving. It is a gradual constant ascent, which actually makes it quite easy. Took us (my wife and I, plus our 4 year old boy and 7 year old girl) a little under 2 hours up, and 1 hour back down. Was well worth it. Not scary, no cliffs or drop offs, just a well traveled constant ascent.
Robert C — Google review
The climb to the top is quite difficult, especially the last 400 meters. The trail runs through the forest, which protects you from the sun, which is comfortable when the weather is hot, and has the appearance of a serpentine. Also, along the way, there are wonderful views of the mountains, you can breathe in the fresh forest air, there are several natural benches for rest. The road took 2 hours to climb and 1 hour 20 minutes to descend, but I was in no hurry, so it all depends on your pace. The view at the top is incredible! I was there on a sunny and windless day and the visibility was very good! The Surphur Skyline Trail is an incredible route with spectacular mountain and valley views. The hike, while challenging, is rewarding with fantastic views and hot springs at the finish. Perfect for those looking for adventure and nature at its best!

This trail is a fantastic adventure for hikers of all ages. It lifts you out of the valley and delivers jaw-dropping views that make every step worth it. As you near the top, brace yourself—the last 400 meters are a bit of a scramble, but the payoff is incredible. Heads-up: it can get pretty windy at the summit, so don’t forget a windbreaker or a cozy layer. You’ll want to hang out and soak in the scenery for a while. Time? Depends who you ask. The posted hiking time is 4–5 hours, but let’s be real: I made it to the top (with photo stops, two water breaks, and a lightning-fast lunch) in under 2 hours—though I’ll admit, I was dragged up. So yes, the timing could use a bit of an update depending on your pace.
Bradley J — Google review
It took us 1h30mins up and 1h 15mins down. The walk is under the trees for most of the time and opens up towards the end, where the incline gets more serious. The 360° view is amazing. We saw squirrels at the top (often confused with chipmunks). Absolutely worth the hike.
Lorenzo — Google review
Wonderful track! The vue on the top is unbelievable and the whole way is so charming, plenty of snow everywhere. It is a bit challenging at the end but totally worth it.
Eva B — Google review
Great trail. It was a pretty easy hike up to the summit. We started early so our wasn't busy up top. Epic views. I would say the best views for the effort. Extremely busy on the way down. Passed SOOOOO many groups. Ended with a cold plunge at the hot springs.
Matt D — Google review
Took us 1h45 return instead of the 4/5h written at the start. We saw chipmunks on top, rabbits on the way down, wild goats in the parking before we started and a black bear on our way back home. What an amazing day! The view at the top is stunning!

Maligne Lake, located in Jasper National Park, Alberta, is a picturesque destination featuring Spirit Island and stunning views of mountains and glaciers. The lake's vibrant colors and breathtaking glacial mountain vistas make it one of the most photographed natural sites globally. It serves as the starting point for popular hiking trails like the Skyline and offers activities such as kayaking, canoeing, and fishing.
We had a great experience moving lake. It was amazing view. There is some few trails down there if you are interested to do some trading, but you can go with your family and spend some time there. There is a really nice restaurant there. You can try the food. It’s amazing you can also do a cruise which will take you to small tour. We did not do it.
Dilpreet K — Google review
My fave lake during my 2 week, travelling trip to Canada (more so than Lake Louise). It’s quieter (I went at the end of August), it’s picturesque, there are lots of trails you can go on. There’s a beautiful lake view restaurant and a FAB ice cream and waffle shop. I bought a Christmas decoration from the gift shop. You can go on boat trips (I didn’t- pre booking is essential). And you can kayak (booking on the day only, so everyone has an opportunity). We did a route called “moose lake”. The small “pool” lake was very peaceful and moose are often found grazing in there. We actually saw a moose in the main lake that was a joy to see and apparently he’s often there, showing off to visitors! If it’s wildlife you’re after, we saw a grizzly on the way back down the mountain, about 8pm. Having spoke to a lot of people in the area about this encounter, they all had photos of the same bear in the same area, so I think he also is a creature of habit! Finally, we had lots of food in our RV, so we stopped the next day at lunchtime, on the way up to the lake at a river best, rest stop on the left side. It was so joyous! They have fire pits with firewood to use for free! As well as picnic benches and the odd chipmunk to watch. It’s extremely picturesque and well maintained!

One of the most beautiful lakes I've ever seen! Located in Jasper, it is quieter than most lakes but still a beautiful turquoise blue that takes your breath away. We took the Maligne Lake Cruise to Spirit Island and I highly recommend it!
Stephanie Y — Google review
Beautiful lake to spend time at. We did a boat trip out to spirit island which was excellent fun and informative. We also did a short walk after along the edge of the lake.
Kim W — Google review
Amazing views with mountain backdrop. Didn’t do the cruise as it felt little overpriced and had other activities planned for the day. It can be an excellent picnic spot however there aren’t a ton of sitting areas near the water (reason I am docking a star). Either, you’ll have to walk further along the trail to find a good spot or sit away from the water. Plenty of parking with 2 overflow lots up the hill from the main parking lot.
Abba J — Google review
Maligne Lake is absolutely stunning and one of the highlights of Jasper National Park. The turquoise water surrounded by mountains is breathtaking, and the boat trip to Spirit Island is unforgettable. There are also great hiking trails around the lake, making it the perfect spot for both relaxation and adventure.
Luca — Google review
Maligne Lake is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. The beautiful water surrounded by towering mountains feels like something out of a painting. Walking along the trails, every turn offers another stunning view — from peaceful forest paths to lookout points where you can see the lake stretch endlessly into the distance. We took time to just sit by the water and enjoy the calm, and it was incredible watching the reflections of the peaks change with the light. There are boat tours that take you out to Spirit Island, which is truly magical and worth every minute. The air feels so fresh, and there’s plenty of wildlife and scenic spots for photos. Even though the area has been affected by fires, the natural beauty still shines through — and it’s amazing to see how the land is healing. If you love nature, photography, or just peaceful places, Maligne Lake is a must-see in Jasper National Park.

Athabasca Glacier, located in Jasper National Park, is a renowned and receding glacier that attracts numerous visitors. It is part of the Columbia Icefield, an expansive ice mass situated on an elevated plateau near some of Jasper's highest peaks. The glacier offers guided tours and hiking opportunities for visitors to experience its stunning beauty up close. Despite being one of the world's most accessible glaciers, it is sadly retreating due to global warming.
I had a lot of fun here riding the bus and walking on the glacier. I really enjoyed it glad I was also well dressed with boots and a light down jacket. It was cold. But loved the experience.

We didn't go into the Glacier on this trip but we plan to next time. We enjoyed wandering through the Discovery Centre and then going abroad the highway to hike to the Toe of the Athabasca Glacier. You can see the people on the Glacier who are on the Glacier tour. There is a fence at the end of the trail but everyone was pushing it down and stepping over to go all the way out to the water. So sad that no one follows the signs. I stopped at the fence. It was beautiful up there. The Skywalk is part of the tour. We also ate lunch in their cafe. The portions were big, so we shared. The parking lot was packed and there were people everywhere. It was crowded but worth visiting.

The Columbia Icefield Skywalk offers a unique and thrilling experience for visitors. This 1km walkway leads to a glass-floor observation platform that overlooks a 280m drop, providing a bird's eye view of the stunning Sunwapta Valley. Adjacent to the highway, the Columbia Icefield Centre is an activity complex where visitors can learn about glacial mechanics, book tours of the glacier via Ice Explorer vehicles, and explore natural history exhibits.
We visited on a picture Aug 21st. A perfect day. Definitely worth the time and effort to travel there. Maybe one of the top wonders in Canada. Pictures cannot do justice in capturing the prestine beauty and amazing views. Our tour bus driver was very informative, while our tickets were for approximately 1 hour, but you can stay longer and catch another one of the regular return buses. The Glass bridge is a special treat and is kept very clean to maximize the views. There are a couple of restaurants with decent food and would suggest you visit the ice fields and Athabasca river, Cross the street from the main building. That part is a short drive and you can walk up to the glacier. All in all, we had a wonderful experience and worth seeing again.

The Columbia Icefield Skywalk has exactly the same concept as the famous Grand Canyon Skywalk — a glass-floored walkway extending over a canyon. However, this one is much smaller, roughly about one-third the size of the Grand Canyon version. Even though it’s on a smaller scale, it’s extremely well maintained and very clean, which makes it a pleasant experience overall. I wouldn’t describe it as very thrilling or scary, especially if you’ve been to the Grand Canyon Skywalk before. That said, it’s still worth visiting as part of the Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure package, especially if you’re also doing the Glacier tour on the same day. It’s a nice way to round out the experience. We went on a Monday evening, which turned out to be perfect — there were very few people, and we practically had the entire walkway to ourselves. It gave us plenty of time to stroll slowly, enjoy the views, and take photos without feeling rushed. This was a huge contrast to my past experience at the Grand Canyon Skywalk, which was very crowded and hectic. Ticket tip: If you buy tickets for the Skywalk alone, it’s around CAD $50 per person. However, I recommend purchasing a Pursuit Pass or a bundle that includes other attractions, which you can easily find online. If you pre-book online, you can usually get around 20% off, making it a much better deal.

The whole experience was great! Both our drivers on the bus and ice explorer were very social, giving us cool facts, and cracking jokes. On the glacier itself was really cool but the zone we were allowed to go on was pretty small with a lot of people. There was great places to take pictures and even a Canadian flag. The skywalk was my favourite, the little 10 minute walk to the actual skywalk was cool with little facts about animals and plants that are native. The skywalk itself was great but the glass was a little dirty and muddy so it wasn’t the greatest for pictures. Also there were so many people that it was hard to get a good picture with people walking in your way all the time. Besides that it was amazing with the views and views of waterfall down below. It’s a little scary at first but after you’ll feel great about doing it. Highly recommend!
Maxim G — Google review
What a spot! The Skywalk gave us absolutely stunning views — the glass-floor platform hanging over the valley is one of those things you’ll remember. We walked the interpretive trail, took in the rugged landscape, and yes, walking out onto that suspended walkway 918 feet (280 m) above the valley floor was both thrilling and calming. We weren’t actually on the glacier itself, but we still felt like we were right in the heart of the wild. The view of the ice-capped slopes and the surrounding peaks framed by the valley is something you’ll struggle to capture in a photo. All in all: definitely worth doing, especially if you’re visiting the area and want something memorable without a full-blown hike. Just go with your eyes open: pick a less-crowded time if you can, and don’t expect it to replace a full glacier walk.

A remarkable experience! Walk on the glacier, and learn about its critical importance and history. Our "Ice Explorer" driver was very knowledgeable, kind and humorous. It was windy, cold and rainy the day we were there, but we still had a fantastic time. Dress for freezing temperatures and wear waterproof boots if you have them. After the ice walk on the glacier, we got onto a bus that took us on an 8 minute ride out to the "Skywalk" where we walked out onto a see-through platform that hangs way out over the canyon. I think from beginning to end, our experience was about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. I would consider this a "must do" when visiting Lake Louise, Banff, or Jasper. They do have RV parking, and an overflow parking lot across the street if the main parking lots get full. I believe they even have overnight RV parking available for a small fee. Enjoy your adventure. I know we will remember ours for our lifetime.

Visited in May 2025. All of the staff I encountered throughout were fantastic and knowledgeable. Especially the young lady who had a little stall with info of all the wildlife (sorry, can't remember your name). The views on offer are incredible. Also visited the glacier which cool. Jasper National Park Icefield Information Centre and Glacier Gallery

The Jasper National Park Icefield Information Centre and Glacier Gallery is a hub for visitors to learn about the glacial mechanics of the Columbia Icefield. It offers a patio with stunning glacier views, trails, tours, a shop, eatery, and cafe. The center also serves as a visitor center where tours can be arranged, including the popular Icefield Adventure that takes visitors onto the glacier via specially designed Ice Explorers.
If your budget allows, I highly recommend booking the newly launched 2025 glacier tour, Ice Odyssey. There are several reasons for this: 1. If it’s your first time visiting the glacier — and very likely your only visit — this tour offers a much deeper experience. You’ll be able to stay near the glacier for almost two hours, and since the group size is smaller, you’ll have more opportunities to interact with the guide. 2. Because this tour takes you to a more remote part of the glacier, the scenery you’ll see is completely different. The ice surface is much cleaner, and you’ll have better conditions for photography in terms of timing, angles, and locations compared to the standard tours. 3. If you’re lucky, like I was, and you’re the only one who booked that time slot, you’ll get to enjoy an unforgettable private glacier experience. The driver and guide will be dedicated entirely to you, and you can even sit in the front passenger seat, which is a completely different perspective. Of course, don’t forget to try the pure glacier water — but don’t drink too much!

Jasper National Park: A Timeless Masterpiece Jasper National Park isn't just a destination; it's a profound experience that keeps calling me back. I've been here more than seven times, and each visit offers a completely unique and unforgettable impression. The highlight for me is the Icefields Parkway, arguably the most scenic drive in the world. This isn't just a road—it's a journey through a living, breathing landscape of ancient glaciers, turquoise lakes, and towering peaks. The grandeur of the Athabasca Glacier, the serene beauty of Maligne Lake, and the majestic wildlife sightings are simply breathtaking. What makes Jasper so special is its dynamic nature. A summer trip reveals lush, vibrant landscapes and the full force of its waterfalls, while a winter visit transforms the park into a serene, snow-covered wonderland. The light changes, the seasons shift, and with each return, a new detail or a different view captures my heart. Whether it's the thrill of spotting a wild elk or simply standing in awe of the towering mountains, Jasper reminds me of the sheer power and beauty of nature. This place is more than just a beautiful park; it’s a source of inspiration and renewal. If you're looking for a once-in-a-lifetime journey that will stay with you forever, Jasper National Park is it. I promise you, it's worth every visit.

The Mistaya Canyon Trail Head in Banff National Park is a must-see destination that showcases the incredible power and beauty of nature. Carved by the Mistaya River over centuries, this narrow gorge features mesmerizing turquoise waters surrounded by towering rock walls. The 1.8 km trail with about 259 feet of elevation gain offers an easy walk to explore a beautiful section of the Mistaya River, which flows from the mountains over 38 km.
Visit June 29,2025 It’s 10 minutes steep down trail from parking lot to the Canyon. A little difficult when you go back up after. The river and the Canyon are amazing , the view , the water sounds so relaxing. Nice area to take amazing photos, just take care if rocks near the Mistaya river are slippery.

Mistaya Canyon is a standout stop on the Icefields Parkway. The trail can be steep in parts, but the breathtaking views of the waterfall and canyon make it well worth the effort. With multiple viewpoints and access to the river, this loop trail is a must-visit. I stumbled upon the trailhead by chance and was blown away by its beauty. Even with kids in tow, we were all in awe of the stunning scenery. Highly recommend this place.
Mohit G — Google review
Mistaya Canyon is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful stops along the Icefields Parkway. Located about 75 kilometers north of Lake Louise, the trail head begins at a parking lot, from which a partly steep hiking trail leads about 10 minutes down into the valley and to a bridge. The steadily increasing noise then announces an extraordinary natural phenomenon: Mistaya Canyon - a winding, dark gray gorge with white-foaming whirlpools and impressive small waterfalls. Despite this impressive natural spectacle, you should be careful: the edges of the rock slabs can be very slippery! If you have a little more time, bring sturdy shoes and food and hike up on the other side to Howse Pass (10 km there and back), from where you have more great views of Mistaya Canyon. If you don’t have that much time, a stop at the canyon alone is absolutely worthwhile!

Very cool spot just off the road. It looks a little shady and it’s a steep descend/climb on a dirt path where you can’t see much. The end isn’t far at all, and so worth it. Don’t get too close to the edge!

Peyto Lake is a stunning glacier-fed lake located in a picturesque valley, renowned for its vibrant turquoise waters. Situated along the Icefields Parkway, it offers breathtaking views and ample photo opportunities. The best spot to capture its beauty is from Bow Summit, the highest point on the parkway, although it can get crowded during peak times. For a more secluded experience, take one of the trails leading up the mountain from Bow Summit car park.
This lake is just wow.. It is very beautiful lake. Hike is also easy, it’s paved so clean, kid friendly as well. View from top of the lake is spectacular. Washrooms are available in parking lot however to get parking spot is a challenge as too many visitors. Early visit is better to get parking and also nice pics of lake and yourself.

Peyto Lake is an absolutely mesmerizing lake, with a brilliant turquoise colour that looks beautiful in any season. The main viewpoint is a very short hike from the parking lot. You can also hike down to the lake, but is harder than the viewpoint. The atmosphere is unforgettable whether it’s foggy, snowing, raining, or sunny.

Peyto you have my heart ❤️. Around 700m hike from parking lot. Its hidden gem. Peyto lake looks very beautiful. Parking lot is big, washrooms on site. Observing Deck is great spot to enjoy this beautiful turquoise lake. Family friendly environment. If you are travelling to Columbian Icefield or Jasper its a quick scenic stop.

Bodies of Water
Bow Lake, located within Banff National Park, is a picturesque spot formed by the runoff of the Bow Glacier. The area offers various activities such as hiking and enjoying a meal at the historic Lodge at Bow Lake. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll along the lakeshore, particularly towards Bow Glacier Falls, which provides stunning views across the turquoise water.
such a breathtaking spot! The water is incredibly blue, and the scenery makes it feel almost magical. I was lucky enough to attend my friends’ wedding here, and it was truly majestic to witness such a memorable event in such a beautiful location. There’s a cozy coffee shop nearby, along with souvenirs and even a lodge if you want to stay longer. I didn’t get the chance to walk the trail since I wasn’t dressed for it, but I definitely plan to come back and explore more when I can. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area!

A gorgeous lake with stunning views year round. Each season offers something different. Quite peaceful and serene in the winter, vibrant in the summer. Atmosphere is beautiful, definitely worth a stop.
Harry H — Google review
Beautiful lake that perhaps has a less dramatic viewpoint than Peyto Lake but still worth a visit. Do note that it is more difficult to get out to the lakeshore when it’s wet as the foreshore area turns into mud.
John L — Google review
It's a really nice lake, even if it's not as well-known as Louise or Moraine. Definitely worth checking out, but the parking and facilities weren't great.

Alberta has many big and beautiful lakes. Lake Bow is also a great lake! It gives me relaxation and comfort. I recommend you to go if you have a chance.
A.P — Google review
Personally, I prefer Bow Lake to Lake Louise. Bow Lake has fewer people, offering a peaceful and serene atmosphere amidst beautiful natural surroundings. It’s only about a 30-minute drive from Lake Louise to Bow Lake, making it a worthwhile destination. If you enjouy hiking, there are several impressive trails, such as my favorite trails, The Onion and Iceberg Lake.
Wilson L — Google review
Bow Lake is one of the largest lakes in Banff National Park. Laying at the base of Bow Summit, you can observe beautiful mountain scales set with this gorgeous lake. Bow lodge, once a private residence and sold in 1996, has a “Provisions” area and small patio where you can enjoy a sandwich, coffee or dessert. They have a parking lot and it’s a very short walk to the lake.
Onthegoboomer — Google review
Easily reached by car with roadside parking and a viewing platform Bow Lake is a must-stop for any Icefields Parkway journey. Its striking glacial colors, peaceful atmosphere, and accessibility make it ideal for both brief visits and extended exploration. Whether you’re snapping a quick photo, paddling the turquoise water, or hiking toward the glacier, it’s a highlight that outshines its roadside appearance.

Waterfalls
Takakkaw Falls is a majestic waterfall located in Yoho National Park, offering dramatic vistas and standing at an impressive height of 373m, with a main drop of 254m. Access to the falls is free with a Discovery Parks Pass for entry into Yoho National Park. The access road is closed during winter from mid-October to mid-June.
Takakkaw Falls is truly one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in Canada! Located in Yoho National Park, the falls are easily accessible by a short drive from the highway, followed by a short walk. The sound of the rushing water grows louder as you approach, and the first glimpse of the towering cascade, plunging 373 meters, will leave you in awe. The mist from the falls creates a refreshing, cool breeze, especially on warm summer days, and rainbows often appear when the sunlight hits just right, adding to the magical experience. The area is surrounded by lush greenery and dramatic mountain peaks, making it a paradise for photographers and nature lovers alike. It’s a perfect stop for families, hikers, or anyone looking to enjoy the raw beauty of the Canadian Rockies. Just be sure to wear good shoes, bring a light jacket (it can be chilly near the base), and keep your camera ready—you’ll want to capture every moment. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A must-visit in Yoho National Park for an unforgettable view of nature’s power and beauty.

I don't have words to explain the beauty of this place. Its must visit place stunning view around the falls, breathtaking scenery and beautiful running water . when you park the car you can't imagine whts next . Just walk towards the bridge and enjoy the water fall at the end. Note: Baby stroller can easily Go there. Note: Washrooms are not that standard, no water access so just sanitizer. Try to avoid to use.
Sharan K — Google review
It was an amazing sight, very simple and accessible on the way to this waterfall. You can see it from afar, and it looks majestic, huge, and tall. When you arrive, you have very easy access to the waterfall itself, and you can truly enjoy the view. There are quite a lot of people, and the parking lot gets full, but you can park a little further away and take a short walk. A wonderful place for kids, adults, and seniors. Absolutely stunning!
D V — Google review
A must-see destination for all nature lovers! This is the second tallest waterfall in Canada and it’s absolutely breathtaking. The area is pet-friendly! Be sure to dress for the weather, the water is extremely cold, and you’ll definitely catch some mist but the views make it completely worth it.
Cristina — Google review
Pretty cool falls that you can walk right up to. Short walk along the river and across a tiny bridge then another short walk to the base. Turn around when you arrive as the views of the surrounding mountains are almost as good as the falls themselves. Come early as parking lot fills up quick! Don't follow the signs for the toilets as they don't make sense (they are to the right of the parking lot, by the river). Well worth a visit.
Andrea C — Google review
Had a wonderful experience exploring takkakaw falls..though to get there was bit of a ride ( some part of the road is narrow) we went there last august after a hot drive and canoeing,it was an amazing view and the water from the falls splashing in our face was refreshing and help us cooled off. Will explore the whol3 area nexr time
Rima R — Google review
The falls were quite loud and powerful rushing over the cliff. As you're driving down you can see it from the road, bouncing off the rocks and creating a beautiful mist. Parking was a challenge and we thankfully found a spot on the side of the road. There were a lot of people but we were able to maneuver around most of them. There are pit toilets at the start and the walk to the falls is an easy, flat .50 mile. Be prepared for crowds.
Melissa P — Google review
This is a MUST DO on your Banff trip. The walk to the falls is paved so very easy to make. If you want to approach the falls, do so in boots because the incline is great and the surface is very loose and rocky. Go early in the morning to beat the crowds.

Crescent Falls Provincial Recreation Area is home to stunning double waterfalls that transform into a frozen wonderland during winter, attracting ice climbers and hikers. Situated along the Bighorn River, it's a three-hour drive from Edmonton between Banff and Jasper National Parks, making it an ideal stop for a road trip. The trailhead begins at the Bighorn Canyon lookout with a small parking lot available. Visitors recommend proper tires due to icy or muddy conditions on the way in.
There is a really well maintained trail in the area for a hiking, a lot of good spots for pictures or just having a picnic and relaxing.

Beautiful scenery in the winter season. Frozen waterfalls, freeze river, and ice holes. You can hike when the temperature is not too cold.
Allan N — Google review
Not too far from the main highway. We came in late September. Once we parked my partner said she was scared and worried about bears and that we didn't have any bear spray. She hasn't been in the wilderness very often. No one else was around either. So we just took a quick walk to the closest spot to view the falls. It really is gorgeous! Next time we will be better prepared.
Doug P — Google review
A beautiful falls. October 8, 2024, and it was 23°C and sunny. I took the signed trail through the woods to the falls. But I took the parking lot entrance road back up the hill directly to the parking lot. It's much easier to walk uphill.
Binder V — Google review
Holy moly beautiful place to stop for great views of the falls and Big Horn Canyon. Fun little hike too!

A lovely spot to hit up if your on the right path towards it. A pretty amazing waterfall setup to see here and some trails to hit up.

Two ways to get here, a 45 minute easy hike in or drive right up to the falls parking lot. Either way is great to see this beautiful double waterfall. 10 out of 10 would hike to see these falls again.

Siffleur Falls

Nestled in the stunning David Thompson Country, Siffleur Falls is a breathtaking natural wonder that captivates all who visit. This magnificent waterfall cascades through a narrow rocky gorge, creating an enchanting mist as it plunges into the canyon below. Accessible via a scenic trail that winds through lush grasslands and towering pine forests, the journey to Siffleur Falls is just as rewarding as the destination itself.
An easy hike/walk that is mostly flat with one brief climb up and the end of the trail is through tree roots as you walk alongside the gorge towards the falls. An easy hike for anyone who enjoys light hiking. I’d bring kids as long as they aren’t the type to get too curious along cliff edges. The lookout points with railings are perfect, no need to put yourself in danger. We walked at a leisurely pace and stopped for photos a lot, took less than an hour to get to the falls. We were there a Friday afternoon in June and hardly saw anyone else on the trail.
Madison W — Google review
Awesome hike! 6 km roundtrip out and back, a few inclines but overall the trail is pretty moderate and flat. You move across the plains and into some forest/shrubs, then into a beautiful thick forest. Trail runs along the river for quite some time, super refreshing! View at the end is totally worth it.
Dorothy K — Google review
Moderate 6 km walk. Starts on a wooden pathway, cross over the river on a suspension bridge and then a well groomed pathway. Couple of steep hills but manageable. Gorgeous views of canyons and the waterfall is impressive.
Calgary G — Google review
Low effort. High reward. I would recommend this hike to anyone passing through the area. A short walk with minimal elevation gain takes you across two bridges, a boardwalk on the plain, and a great waterfall. Not to mention the amazing spot next to the falls where you can have a snack. The first falls are only a 45min walk. You can take the trail a little further (10min) and see another fun formation with raging water. The second and third set of falls are more of a hike. Be prepared for more effort. Commit to another 3 hours to get there and back to the first falls. Precarious ridge trails along the gorge, steep inclines, and forest paths. There is enough tree coverage to create shade for much of the hike. Some of the trail is not for the faint of heart, but the third set of falls is impressive as you can get right down to the riverbank. Total trip time from the parking lot and back was 5 1/2 hours (with a 30min lunch). Highly recommend the first waterfall. Super easy walk and suitable for kids.
Jesse K — Google review
Easy in and out trail. Gorge lookout before falls is awesome. Falls are small but mighty. This is a great hike. Carry bear spray. Keep dogs on leash. Upper Falls - The trail past the main falls is more difficult. But worth the walk for the views. Not suited for elderly, out of shape or young children as it’s steep, has tricky traverses across steep, rooted, slopes and canyon edge. Hiking poles recommended. If you make it to the rock wash DO NOT go turn left on the edge of this creek bed. Stay right / straight then drop down through the bush (if it looks bad you’re in the right place) you will see the trail above the creek bed on the opposite side. You have to climb around and over water stream and slippery rock. Continue on trail for another 2 klm or so up the Siffleur River Canyon. At the end there is a very steep muddy drop off down to the rivers edge and another small waterfall. 🙂
J G — Google review
I saw these animals within 1 km of the parking lot entrance. Beautiful hike even for smaller children.
Brendon W — Google review
It was gorgeous just like that entire area its so beautiful.hurry up and go see it because last friday i have never seen so many people there its horrible its becoming slowly like Banf.. to many noisy people. Garbage and loud music ect. Go on a monday or tuesday.
Foxtail T — Google review
Went there on a whim. Its aboout 2hr drive from Abrahams Lake. The trail is too long and not very comfortable apart from those bridges. Have to cross 2bridges and then there is about half hour steep hike. In the end it was all worth the sweat. The time is for back and forth. The view from up top was beautiful. Must visit especially before sunset and take that beauty in from there! Parking is free. Restrooms are where you park and nowhere else. The trail mostly is dog friendly but make sure they have comfortable shoes on feet for hot ground and lots of water.

Brazeau Collieries Mine National Heritage Site

History Museums
The Brazeau Collieries Mine National Heritage Site is an abandoned location that offers unrestricted access for exploration. It is highly recommended to visit this site, but caution should be taken regarding bugs, animals, and building hazards. The site is easily accessible and features interpretive panels that provide a detailed history of Police Flats and the colliery. Guided tours are available with donations accepted, offering a great opportunity to discover Alberta's rich history.
A very informative tour. Going behind the scenes to see what daily life was like working on the mines. Our tour guide, Courtney, had some funny stories and a grasp on specific dates, names and timing of what went on at the mine. There was a solid trek through the mine, narrow stairs and smaller spaces to navigate. Many of the buildings have been well preserved or partially restored to showcase what they looked like.
Rieley K — Google review
Very informative tour guides; amazing place worth checking out. I tried arranged the photos so they can be understandable and added a map so you know where they were taken.
Brian C — Google review
We visited the mine site on Friday July 25th with Marley as our guide. We had booked ahead which they recommend. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour despite the odd bit of rain that fell that day. Marley was friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to answer all our questions. There was so much to see that the tour time went by very quickly. Things have been well preserved considering the age. I sincerely hope that the site continues to receive funding to be able to maintain and offer these tours to the public. There isn’t a set fee for the tour (though I think it would be well worth it) but there is an option to make a donation which I hope people do. All other staff we encountered that day at the Nordegg Discovery Centre were super friendly and helpful as well! Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the Nordegg area.

This tour was exceptional. The tour guide, Marlee, was very knowledgeable and provided just the right amount of information. She and her co-lead, Aspen, were helpful and open to any questions. Highly recommend. The tour does require walking up and down hills and would not be suitable for those with mobility issues.

Crimson Lake Provincial Park, located just a short drive from town, is a perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts. In the summer, visitors can enjoy activities such as swimming, boating, fishing, and biking around the Amerada Trail. The park also offers interpretive programs and camping facilities. During winter, the park transforms into a wonderland with opportunities for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and fat biking.
Had a wonderful time camping here with family. The sites were good sizes and well treed in, and the lake is beautiful 🤎 The outhouses and washrooms were clean and the staff were kind. I definitely would like to come back

Would not recommend this as a winter hike. We went in December and the trail was not groomed. The trail was not well marked, it took a lot longer then the 2 hours everyone say it took them. The are 3 washrooms and numerous shelters on the trail I would definitely do this trail again in the fall.

Lost two stars for incredibly distressing reservation intake. Do not arrive without site # as this has never been a problem with Parks Canada campgrounds in my experience. When I gave the name of the reservation they declared I did not have a reservation. No attempt to problem solve by staff. Did not ask how to spell my name or licence plate number. Had to call someone who had wifi to give me my site number. After driving over two hours this was incredibly upsetting. They did apologize and I hope going forward the staff are trained in how to manage lost reservations. Some sites are close to a busy highway. Some very beautiful wooded sites. Wood for sale. Snacks and some camping basics available at shop. Lake is nice for swimming with a sandy beach that is groomed in the morning.

Crimson Lake's rich colours and laid-back vibes, create the perfect place for unforgettable family moments. As the sun cast a warm glow, you can't help but feel the joy and tranquillity in every moment. It's where memories are made, wrapped in magic! It’s always a pleasure to visit!

Beautiful campground with lots of trees and alright distance between camp neighbors. Powered sites are available, and I strongly recommend them as it is still a reasonable price. The outdoor bathrooms around the grounds are cleaned regularly, and there is a shower building with 12 showers and 8 standard toilets; male/female segregated. These facilities are cleaned regularly as well and the showers are $2 for five minutes of operation. Working showers are always a massive plus, and this campground earns it easily. The lake is a good size with a busy public beach and a boat launch. This is also a busy water sports lake, so lots of water skiing and tubing. Not so busy that we were still able to enjoy kayaking on the lake. There are a variety of birds and butterflies/moths in the area with plenty of hiking trails around the lake to take in all the natural beauty of the area. Very kid friendly, though pets are prohibited from some areas; they are fine at the camp sites. Highly recommend.
Owen T — Google review
Nice campground, sites have lots of thin birch trees but only low brush. This means lots of visibility between most sites. The beach and lake are very nice. Would certainly go back. Lots of trails in and around the campground that lots of kids were zooming around on bikes on. Good for families. Many ppl brought dogs. Saw a couple of ppl NOT picking up after them, despite signage to do so. Sigh. Didn't seem to be a big problem though.
Theresa L — Google review
Big campground with large sites and excellent spacing between sites. Shower with flush toilets in loop b, otherwise the outhouses are deep and clean.

This is a nice park with a great beach on a pretty lake. It is located off Hwy 11 near Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada on good roads. The boat launch needs some love but is serviceable. Huge parking lots at boat launch, beach and playground areas. Really nice, well maintained accessible trails – Amerada Trail. Level campsites, shade trees, quiet and welcoming. A well maintained park. All sites are unserviced. Sani-dump, showers, flush toilets, laundry, drinking water, small store, swimming, hiking and sandy beach makes this a great destination for a family vacation.

EXCEPTIONAL PROPERTY! EXCEPTIONAL HOSTS! We discovered this STUNNING gay campground online. We made the 10 hr drive (part of a road trip) for a long weekend and not disappointed. We were immediately greeted by the hosts/owners, and they took exceptional care of us all weekend, constantly checking in. BIG shout out to Keon. ALWAYS a smile on his face. These boys work very hard to ensure EVERYONE has a 5 star experience. Despite the stormy weather, we met so many great guys (and gals), enjoyed the dance party, the fire pit, pride parade, creek beach and had dinner and breakfast at their small restaurant. They have bigger plans for this campground including an additional bathroom/shower building, and hopefully more serviced RV sites (most RVs have to dry camp). There is also very cozy motel and rustic cabins on site. And then there is a beautifully preserved gold rush town… AMAZING! We could go on and on and on, however, you really just need to come here and experience it for yourself. If you’re looking for a five star camping experience in a safe and welcoming LGBTQ+ community, this is your spot! We will be back, and wish Keon and his partners/team the very best! Great little place to check out. The museum inside is small but I especially enjoyed the interactive parts of the exhibits, as well as learning about the area and animals. We did the longer trail and passed by the Métis camp which looked really cool, however we caught it during pouring rain. All of the employees were friendly and helpful. I could’ve done with more Bison, but all around a neat place to check out and I love that you can get a good walk in too! 🦬🦬

Firstly, google the rocky mountain house campground and you will be directed to the wrong location. On the email confirmation slip it says exactly "Rocky Mountain House Campground" Second, we have 2 cars and we're told one needs to be in the parking lot and only one can be on the campsite(pic of 1 car on campsite attached) for no other reason then "rules are rules". Theres campers and RVs parked 3 times the size taking up the whole road. Dogs barking, generators running. Third, You cannot use your own firewood and have to buy theirs(which is normal for campgrounds but still feels like a money grab) Fourth, they had no power when we showed up but no big deal because its not like we can do anything about it. Fifth, nobody really cares to update or upkeep the signage to learn. Only the signage with the rules is surely made obvious. Sixth, All bathrooms are closed and we are told to walk 10 mins to get to an outhouse. And lastly, employees are taught to be nice and accommodating but one guy keeps smiling like he's a psychopath at people. Way overboard. My uncle used to work for parks canada and now I understand why he's such an annoying person. I guess its just part of the job. I'll never camp at parks canada again and will probably cut my stay here short. There's no one to blame but myself. Live and Learn.

This was my first time at this campground. There was a mix up with my booking, but they straightened it up. Unfortunately, I had to have a day shorter in my trip. But they did go out of their way to get me a good tenting spot and that they did. I was very impressed my disappointment. Because of my mix up with booking did not bother me any longer. This place is fantastic. Staff is fantastic. I was struggling to set up my tent and a young gal drove by, and she offered her help and we got it set up. She was fantastic. I got what delivered right to my sight. It's a little pricey, the wood But he ended up buying 20 bags anyway. In total, I'll definitely go back there. I highly recommend this place.

The Sundre & District Museum offers ample space for exploration and an impressive wildlife exhibit. The village on display is captivating, and the fence is truly remarkable. However, the main building could benefit from more artifacts and informative displays. The staff is exceptionally friendly and accommodating. This museum is a hidden gem that never fails to impress with its diverse range of exhibits showcasing taxidermy wild animals. Kids particularly enjoy this attraction, as it provides both entertainment and educational value.
My 15 month old loved the wildlife exhibit. She walked around for a significant amount of time pointing out all the cats and dogs (there is way more variety than that but she’s a baby.) The museum itself is quaint and neat to walk around. The animal exhibit is beautifully done and very impressive. We will be back, hopefully in summer months so we can see the outdoor pioneer town.

There were a lot of neat things to see here, and the grounds were surprisingly large. I didn't realize all of the buildings that were part of the museum until we started exploring outside after the main building. The old school house and log cabin were very cool to see, and the staff here are very friendly! Great pit stop of you're going through town and need to stretch your legs.

Another excellent small town museum which is deceivingly smaller on the outside, but is big time experience and visual delights on the inside. There is so much to see and do in here, that I took quite a bit to go through it all. There is a lot of interesting reads if one looks over them and finds the interesting tidbits noted. Great place to visit and the staff were very friendly and engaging. Must see place if visiting Sundre or area!

The museum inside was small needs a bit artefacts… the world of wildlife was interesting… the pioneer Village could use a bit of maintenance to the buildings.. but other a that is was nice museum…

Love this place so many cool things to see ans the world of wildlife is a hidden gem. The lady that works here is so friendly and kind and great with kids. This is a place I never get tired of.

One of the best museums we've been to yet in Alberta! The staff is incredibly knowledgable and helpful. The exhibits are clear, well maintained, and have good history. The wildlife room is like nothing else you can find in Alberta, and the historic buildings around the property make for some great photography. Can't wait to visit again!

This place is a must see! It's a hidden gem. We had a tour of the museum by Jane. She's very knowledgeable and knows all the stories behind each animal there. I highly recommend visiting this place, especially if you have kids. My kids said this was the highlight of their day. The pioneer village was closed due to heavy snowfall. Another reason for us to be back!

3 excellent galleries 1st takes you through the history of Sundre area 2nd you're wandering into an early 19th century village; with log houses & historic items 3rd you're in what can only be described as a Wild Life Exibit...(mostly curated by a big game hunter from the area) very impressive for this sleepy town

It's worth taking the time to slowly walk through the Creamery and admire the past importance of localized farming, simple steam generation and the mechanical applications steam drives. . Then add the wonderful end product created from milk! Markerville is wonderful to visit and admire.

We went during the August 21 show and shine and we were so pleasantly surprised with the entire community! A fantastic slice of history in Alberta . We got to experience the best of this community with food, fantastic pie and ice cream along with arts, crafts and live music. The setting of this community is very quaint. We will be back for some peace and quiet and bring a few of our friends to camp next time

Awesome historical location that informs and teaches you about a creamy and how cream is separated from milk and then how butter is made. Then you can have ice cream right there and enjoy the history behind it. I was here 20 years ago and it was enjoyable now as it was then. I would recommend coming here if you can make your way here. There are some interesting activities to participate in and other interactive things. Lots of seating to relax on and a bridge to cross over to a beautiful park area.

A small but well thought out museum. It is interactive enough that my 6 year old enjoyed it. He looked at all the machinery and I told him what their jobs were. My 9 year old and I enjoyed it too. Educational signs but interesting. The cafe has plenty of outdoor seating in the lovely green area, some of which is covered. The short menu is well executed. They sell Foothills Creamery ice cream, which is good quality. After you visit the museum, take time to walk around the town. There are numerous historical interest points.

We have heard about the creamery for a couple of years now and we decided it was time to see what it was all about. We were not disappointed. Follow the interesting production of butter in the old days. It’s interesting how a 20 hp steam engine by the use of various jackshafts provided power for the whole operation.

Went for ice cream at this place. What a joke really as you stand in a long line up finally get to order and they tell you that you have to go to the back yard pay for it then bring the receipt 🤣 all this and not one sign any where warning customers The ice cream certainly wasn’t great I’ve had better from Canadian superstore yellow box creamsicles and I’m not sure if it’s even made on the spot as I notice a worker carrying a tub of frozen ice cream from somewhere in the back forty. Disappointing to say the least! And poor management. Sorry forgot to take a photo the car show and shine I lost my head at some of the nice oldies

Awesome ice cream flavors and staff! We have been visiting the place from last 8 years and never got disappointed! Last year we called and they stayed for 20-25 minutes after closing as we were driving from Pigeon Lake and we did not want to miss their ice cream! Highly recommended place!

Interesting history of Markerville, the Creamery Industry and about life in Alberta in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Be sure to visit the monument to Stephansson the poet of the Rocky Mountains near the Creamery. Also only a few kilometers away is the Stephansson hose historic site.

Sylvan Lake Park

A wonderful place to enjoy summer with family. The place is really beautiful and a lot of restaurants and coffee shop around the area. Though in summer time looking for a parking slot is a bit hard since a lot of people love this place for swimming fishing and picnic. They have a big washroom that can accommodate a lot of people every year.

Very lovely place to relax and have fun. If you are looking for a spot that is good for kids, parents, and pets, then this is the one you are looking for. We can swim, take boats, and tubes into the lake to have fun. There are also some water activities and boat rentals available. Washrooms and change rooms are also available, and the maintenance is also good. There are some decent restaurants around the town. Paid parking is available across the street, and many spots around.

Excellent beach park. Nice beach with shore line. The whole area is very shallow and safe for kids. There are nice shower and wash/change rooms no family rooms though. Parking is paid be sure to pay or get a ticket. There is a splash/inflatable aqua park for extra fee but its worth it too. There is kids playground, light house and just few picnic benches but a lot of rest bench along the harbour front walk. Boat and kayak rental options are available. It could get quite hot and busy on a weekend so be prepared. Over all highly recommended. Check out photo and videos & Follow for more.

The park has a beautiful grass area to sit and enjoy the lake-view. It’s a fun place with family and friends. There is also a light house to watch around.

This magnificent lake park offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the urban life without leaving the city. The lush greenery, majestic botanicals, gentle wind breeze, the iconic light house, local cafès, pubs and restaurants, breathtaking sunsets, and calm, beautiful lake... it's the perfect place for picnics, jogging, or simply unwinding with nature. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat to re energize, re calibrate, relax, and rejuvenate. Can't wait to revisit ❤️.

Probably my favorite beach in Alberta traveled here from Edmonton about an hour and a half drive, but come at least five times a year to do some jet skiing. The weather was perfect. The atmosphere was always nice and clean and they had the Battle of the beaches this weekend which added an extra vibe. I wish there an event on the beach every weekend playing music. It was awesome and everybody loved it.

An absolute beauty.. The beach park was sparsely populated making it a perfect getaway for couples and families.. We went on the Thanksgiving Day and would visit again..

Lots of space to find your own spot on the grass next to the water. Easy access down cement staircase into the water (3 or 4 steps with centre railing). Minimal to no rocks in the water/ sand while swimming, clean, no leaches, lots of smaller fish, minnows and wildlife. Shallow water and easy to swim. There was paid parking with lots of spots right next to the lake front, I paid approximately $9 for 3 hours. It's an app you can download or scan qr code, credit card or card only. Good option for restaurants in the area and other local stores close by. Overall would recommend it's a great place for a day trip or longer. I would travel to this lake again.

Went with a group of 8 ladies this weekend. The gentleman who was working was absolutely awesome. He took the time to show each person how to throw and gave tips throughout the two hours we were there! Highly recommend we all had a blast could have easily stayed at day there!

A great experience. I was in a mixed family group, but it would also be suitable for mixed or single sex groups of friends. I am not sure of the venue’s policies as I did not book the event, but I would not recommend for any child preteen. It does what it says on the tin. You throw axes at a target and score points for hitting different parts of the target. You can select different themes, we tried the zombies, where you have to avoid hitting the normal people. The point scoring sections change position on the target from time to time during each game. You buy a slot of a preset amount of time and then your group can play as many games as you wish within that slot. All drinks available are in cans or bottles, alcohol is served. All snacks are pre-packed and are limited to things like chips, candy, chocolate bars, et cetera.

This was my first time at Wood Shed, and it was so much fun! We came as a group to celebrate a friend's birthday, and the staff was so warm, friendly, and helpful! This was the perfect activity for our group...super fun, and the perfect level of competition. The overall vibe is perfectly rustic and lumberjack-y, and we loved that we could bring our own snacks in, but also purchase some drinks. Great experience, great business!

I love this place! Great atmosphere, a unique experience, and fun to be had! Staff here help to educate you on how to throw, where to stand, and how to succeed. The digital scoring system adds another dimension to the games, fun, and interest! Totally recommended for a fun night out with a date or with friends. Casual, fun, challenging, and a great photo opportunity. We love making memories, here!

We decided to go with our family and it did not disappoint! Fantastic facility & it didn’t break the bank! We so appreciated the instruction as most of us had never done it. What a great way to spend time as a family. We will definitely be back. Thanks Wood Shed.

Incredible free small garden/park at Olds College, lots of plants and flowers, birds, ponds, and paved paths to walk through it all. Quite peaceful, there was no one else here when I visited on a Saturday afternoon. Highly recommended if you are in Olds.

Let's be clear, this isn't Disney land but it is a nice 20min walk in a quiet setting with interesting plants and trees to look at. Be patient finding the parking lot, the signage isn't that clear but if you turn right in front the main gate to the garden you'll hit the lot.

I was traveling through town and stopped to walk my dogs at the campus since it was a holiday and closed. Didn't expect the gardens and it was a lovely find

This is truly a hidden gem! It is a gorgeous place for a walk, and the grounds are kept in immaculate condition. There are both paved and gravel paths, with lots of little bridges to cross over. Takes 25-30 minutes to walk through it all. Just a beautiful spot to check out!
