We spent 2 nights at the village we received a very warm welcome and we learned a lot on the Maasai culture. We also went on a walking safari which was amazing. We highly recommend this village as it is quite authentic compared to what we heard of the other ones.
Thibault C — Google review
What a wonderful visit! Our guides spoke beautiful English and were both warm and welcoming. We learned so much and really hope to return. DEFINITELY worth a trip if you are interested in Maasai culture and want a unique and authentic experience. Remember to bring some extra shillings. We didn't have and and really missed out on buying crafts made by the residents. Don't forget that your visit also supports sending their children to school!
Erika T — Google review
One of the most striking, beautiful and genuine experience in Tanzania ! We stayed 24 hours, one night, which enabled to better understand and dive in the Maasai culture. The two guides, Kimani and Fredi, are so kind and interestind! The cooker Isaya is also fantastic. What a memorable time with all the community
Elie O — Google review
The experience at the village was great we learned about the interesting history of the Maasai and got to know their tradition and habits and we were welcomed very nicely with singing and dancing. It is worth to mention that we had lunch at the Village and even being vegan we were served a wonderful meal and the food was delicious!❤️
Raz D — Google review
The best thing I did in Tanzania. By all means it’s the highlight of my whole trip. An experience like no other from the welcoming ceremony, the tour, the lunch, the huts, the museum, the knowledge, the culture, the elderly hut... etc. Nothing could top that. However, take note: 1)) advanced booking is a must 2)) it takes minimum an hour off road drive plus wherever you are to get there. 3)) they offer full board accommodation, for night stays. I highly recommend it.

Went on a Sunday afternoon. Arrived at around 3.30pm. WHAT I LOVED: *Plenty of parking space. *Entrance is free (otherwise, entrance fee is only applicable for 10 & above groups of people). *Very green, beautiful and serene. Cool place to relax and unwind. *Love the water fountain, huge peacock structures and giant tires. *Love corner swings are super cute and comfortable. *Walkways are paved so walking and riding bikes around the park is easy. WHAT I HATED *The parking lot outside the park is very poorly maintained. It doesn't look swept, neat or inviting. There's even grass growing over the cabro stones which makes it look very dirty and untidy. (I mean, this is the first thing a visitor sees so first impressions should matter. Clean it up and maintain it properly) WHAT YOU WILL FIND: *Zip Lining *Skating *Bouncing Castles *Target Shooting *Restaurant *Snack Vendor (sweets/soda/biscuits)
Mercy N — Google review
Very affordable activities like archery, inflatable pool, trampoline, bouncy castles, maze, merry go rounds, a horse, a camel and ziplining. Snacks aren't overpriced from local vendors and food is well portioned, fresh, with good variety offered at restaurant #2. Best of all, free entry and public transport is available. Scenic views for capturing great photographic moments. Safe for young children and pets, with enough clean public toilets. Great for picnics as food from outside is allowed.
Arr E — Google review
Good recreational place where you can relax, refresh and rejuvenate! Dr. Alfred Mutua did wonderful job but of late "Yaliyondwele Sipite" has lost touch with the condition of park because it's very very poorly maintained. The grass is rarely cut in the fields, the walkways pavements are worn-out with grass grown all over the place etc etc. Can Machakos people call for mass action so that the park is returned to its former glory? I leave it to you watu wa Masaku!
Felix O — Google review
It is a place with variety of activities;Horse riding, bike, cyclingand also Mary go round and bouncing caso for kids and many more activities, the park is suitable for all age groups.its also a best place for couples, also with a big convection hall and events ground 😍🥳🤍a place to be
Alex L — Google review
Thursday might not be the best day to visit. Nothing going on. Place looks derelict. Misleading information online about opening hours. Transport to and from the park to town is non-existent. Otherwise it is serene and has scenic views.
Elizabeth A — Google review
The place is good for a family get a way. There is a lot of attractions for the kids and a good relaxing ambience for adults. There are 2 restaurants, one none alcoholic and the second with a bar. The food is affordable but the portions are small. Very good views. Carry your own tissue because the toilets have no tissue or running water. Entrance is free. They have bicycles for hire, zip lining, merry go round a and remote cars for kids.
Mwadime M — Google review
A great way to spend a day with the family. This park consists of a wide variety of activities like Zip lining, boat rides, archery, a maze, quad bike rides for kids, horse ride etc It caters to the needs of every age group. The prices of rides are very affordable. Suggest the property can be maintained a bit more in order to attract the tourists and drastically improve the toilet facilities as it was horrible with no water! A special mention to the Archery guy who was very polite, kind and patient with us while explaining how to take a shot. Overall a good experience.

Oh it was magnificent! There was rock climbing and to add on top of it, there was also diving into waters as deep as 40 feet, for the ones who swam, they had fun though I didn't cz I forgot my costume. Bit the scorching hot sun was good in drying those who swam .
Diego L — Google review
In need of a chill, not overly hyped getaway just for a couple of hours? This is the spot. Impromptu visit but worth the time. Food took a minute but it was not disappointing. Take a friend ... most likely a child. They'll enjoy it.
Lewis M — Google review
The food took too long (2hrs) but it was delicious when it landed. The kids were too hungry by then. Joints that sell alcohol use this method to push sales but this being a non-alcohol outlet, it was a bit confusing. We ordered for tea but the response we got was shocking: NO MILK. The structures could also do with some repair work. But the kids enjoyed running around and swinging on the rickety swings. I guess that's what's important for a parent treating them on closing day.
Chris K — Google review
Changing & washrooms near the pool had been lifted. That's a great progress. I met different kids from different schools swimming and I appreciate the place for its kind of safety.

Nairobi National Park

National park
Nature & Parks
Nairobi National Park is a unique conservation center and wildlife sanctuary located just 10 kilometers from the city center of Nairobi, making it the only national park in Africa situated within a capital city. Covering an area of 117 square kilometers, this park is home to a diverse range of Kenya's wildlife, including lions, buffaloes, cheetahs, giraffes, and a rhino sanctuary. It also boasts over 400 bird species.
An incredible place! You can see wild animals in their natural habitat – lions, giraffes, rhinos, and zebras. A ride in an off-road vehicle amidst such wildlife is an unforgettable adventure. The park is beautiful and offers a true sense of connection with nature. I highly recommend it!
Benedykt M — Google review
Great experience and fun day. I saw most of the animals although when it was announced that there was a lion in the area, everyone would rush to get there and they'd get close to the lion to get photo opportunities and they drove in the path in which the lion was walking and I didn't like that. There's supposed to be a 10 meter distance from you and the animals which was not followed by many of the drivers. Overall a great experience.
Tammy E — Google review
I visited the Nairobi National Park twice on two separate days and both visits were amazing. A large variety of animals can be seen in this park except for the elephant. Come here in the morning when it's cool. In the afternoon the animals will find shade to avoid sun exposure, which means you will likely not see them.
Jungletraveler00 1 — Google review
A pretty magical and unexpected place to be honest. The proximity to Nairobi means it is really accessible and there are a great range of animals to see, which is all the more fascinating because of it closeness to Nairobi. I had a great time and thought it was amazing. I went for the full day having lunch at a Maasai lodge and after the main gate the jeeps thinned out which gave a better sense of just being there with the animals. Highly recommend going to see the animals. We saw lions, hippo, giraffes, rhinos, zebra, ostrich, crocodiles, antelope, gazelles, baboons and loads of different birds. Enjoy.
John H — Google review
Oh My Gosh ! I entered the park with the expert help of the Manager of Ras Travel Noha along with my paid Safari Driver. At first , I was like okay I want to see a lion/lioness and was informed that it doesn’t work like that by my Safari Driver . He then said we will drive through Nairobi National Park and he will be on the lookout for lions ….. ooooh ,but there are no guarantees . Well, we started along , with the guide driving fairly slowly thru the park . Along the drive , we saw Zebra, giraffes , hippos , and all manner of wild birds and animals …but no lions . As the sun just started to set over the horizon and we were near the end of my day safari through Nairobi National Park , and I was just starting to feel just a little bit disappointed that I would not see a lion , a young male lion came slowly walking along the dirt road with another safari truck on its tail taking pictures . I smiled with joy and took what video I could from the distance we were at and thought that would be my lion experience . Then ,a little distance more ? I saw a grown female lioness just lounging in some grass , and a little distance more a male lion standing broad and tall surveying the area . YEAH !!!! I saw a lioness, a young lion and a Lion , roar . 🦁🙂
Wamuiru L — Google review
What a rich wild life. Big park, with plenty of animals to see. Beautiful rhinos to giraffes, zebras and crocodiles. Also surreal picture to see the city of Nairobi in the background of it.
Steve W — Google review
This was one of the most memorable and wonderful experiences I’ve had. Although I didn’t see all the big five, I saw a lion, but he didn’t look happy at all and had something around his neck. I thought this was their natural habitat. The drive was tough as expected, and I had a great time. Regarding costs, follow me on TikTok for the breakdown.
Covenant — Google review
This national park is a hidden pearl. It is adjacent to the Nairobi international airport but it has so many beautiful animals. Its south side is open to other reserves which allows the animals to move around. We saw lion, dozens of giraffes, hundreds of zebras, over 15 white rhinos with a baby rhino, hyenas, ostrich, all kinds of antelope, etc in a short 3 hours. Very good place to visit if you only have a short time in Nairobi

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Nursery

Mentioned on

Animal shelter
Nature & Parks
The Elephant Nursery, located within Nairobi National Park, is a rescue and rehabilitation center for orphaned elephants. Established in 1977 by the Sheldrick Trust, it offers visitors the opportunity to witness young elephants being fed and nurtured. The trust, founded by David and Daphne Sheldrick, pioneers techniques for raising orphaned black rhinos and elephants before reintroducing them into the wild. Visitors can enjoy watching the elephants drink milk and eat while learning about their conservation efforts.
The Sheldrick trust looks after orphaned elephants. They are rescued from different parts of Kenya and brought in and given professional care and protection including medical care. The elephant babies seemed to be well looked after. One can feed the elephants and pet them too as they are very friendly. They also have two rhinos that are kept secure and taken care of. The organization seems to be very dedicated towards their goals and the people who work here do so with passion. You will need to book a visit through email at least 48 hours in advance and the visit is only from 11am to 12pm. Strongly recommended to visit if you are in Nairobi.
Zafar E — Google review
This is one of the most magical places I’ve ever visited (by far)!! The only recommendation I’ve give is to arrive early so you have a good view. It was amazing to learn about the critical work this wildlife trust is doing to save elephants from unfortunate situations. Even better, you can actually PET them if they come close enough which is a magical experience on its own.
Jack A — Google review
One of the highlights in Nairobi is visiting this elephant orphanage. You can join a tour or book it online a few days ahead and get there by uber. Since this facility is located inside Nairobi National Park, you need to pay both national park fee and then this elephant orphanage fee. The elephant feeding show is only during 11 am and 12 noon.
Harry Z — Google review
Visiting the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was an amazing experience! Getting to see the baby elephants up close and learn about their rescue stories was truly unforgettable. It’s incredible how much care and love the team puts into protecting and rehabilitating these animals. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Nairobi — it’s educational, heartwarming, and an absolute must-see right after Nairobi National Park.
Ed L — Google review
It was the best experience of my life. Being able to see small elephants and even pet some of them when they came to say “hi” was magical. The whole place is amazing and spectacular and I would recommend everyone to visit this place. It is open only for one hour daily and after feeding and observing elephants, you can go and adopt one or buy some gadgets to support this place.
Karolina — Google review
It’s a nice experience. The guy talking was very knowledgeable and knew every elephant by name and history. The wait to get in is unorganized and we had to pay an additional $147 to get into the park with the car which we thought was excessive (that’s not including the $20 per person to get into the elephant orphanage. To get in, you need to pre book online for the orphanage but also need to fill out a form to get into the park (which is mandatory) and if you haven’t done that beforehand, it could take a good 30 minutes to complete and pay for. The entry process is the only reason I gave it a 4 star and not a 5. It’s a shame because once inside, it was a definite 5 star.
Sameh W — Google review
Totally magical, one of the best things I've experienced. Once you're inside, you gather around the enclosure and the young elephants trot out into it, eagerly looking forward to.theor milk bottles. The drink them, some alone, some with help from their guardians. They then chew bark from branches, play with each other, roll in the mud and watch you. They get very close and you can even touch their rough skin. One of the main guardians gives information about each of the orphan elephants, what brought them to the Sheldrick Trust, and also some information about elephants in general. With the KWS park entrance fee, a visit isn't so cheap, but it's worth every penny.
Edward A — Google review
A must visit for all animal enthusiasts, sanctuary provides a home for orphaned and abandoned wildlife, one of the charities that I'm more than happy to support. Loved the stories of how each of the elephants were rescued, good job guys, keep it up.

Located on the outskirts of Nairobi National Park along Langata Road, Giraffe Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of endangered Rothschild giraffes. The center, situated within the grounds of a luxurious guesthouse called Giraffe Manor, aims to protect and preserve these majestic creatures while providing educational opportunities for both children and visitors. One of its main attractions is a raised platform where guests can feed giraffes from specially prepared pallets.
A must-visit in Nairobi! Such a fun and unique experience getting up close to the giraffes — they’re gentle and beautiful. The staff were welcoming and shared great information about conservation. Perfect spot for photos and learning more about Kenya’s wildlife. Great for both adults and kids!

We visited the Giraffe Centre and had such a lovely experience! It was about a 45-minute drive from Nairobi, and even though it was a bit crowded, everything was well organized getting tickets was quick and smooth. We got to feed the giraffes, take some great photos, and the staff made sure everything was clean and hygienic with handwashing before and after. A really fun and unique experience, perfect for a quick visit from the city! 🦒✨

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the area was clean and well maintained. I highly recommend anyone visiting Nairobi to check out this place — it’s fun, educational, and perfect for all ages.

We had a wonderful experience visiting the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi. Feeding the giraffes was an absolute highlight – they provide the feed for free to everyone, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. There were plenty of giraffes around, and it was such a unique feeling to be up close with them. We also enjoyed the informative session where they explained more about giraffes and warthogs, which added a nice educational touch to the visit. One important thing to note is that they do not accept cash, so be sure to carry a card or use mobile payment options. Overall, it was a memorable and fun experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Nairobi!
Uva P — Google review
The highlight here is to feed giraffes directly. You are given some dry food in a small dish upon entry and you will stand on a platform and the giraffes will come to you and eat those food from your hand. Interesting experience and certainly worth a visit. Half hour should give you enough time to visit.

A beautiful and educational experience in Nairobi! The Giraffe Centre is one of those places that truly connects you with nature. It’s amazing to see the elegant Rothschild giraffes up close — and even feed them by hand! 🦒 The experience is both fun and educational, with friendly staff who share great insights about giraffe conservation and local wildlife efforts. The area is calm, green, and well-maintained — perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers looking for something unique and relaxing to do in Nairobi. There’s also an informative gallery and a small nature trail nearby if you want to extend your visit. 💰 Entry Fees (as of 2025): Non-resident adult: KES 1,500 Non-resident child: KES 750 Resident adult: KES 400 Resident child: KES 200 Children under 3: Free Tip: Visit early in the morning when it’s quiet and the giraffes are most active. The National Museum of Kenya is a must-visit destination in Nairobi for those interested in delving into the rich heritage and history of East Africa. Located on Museum Hill road, this museum boasts diverse cultural and natural history exhibits, including an extensive collection of stuffed birds and mammals, fossils from Lake Turkana, local art displays, and a remarkable Geology gallery featuring rocks and minerals. The Hominid vault houses prehistoric bones and fossils, offering insight into early life forms.
What a great experience. The exhibits were well laid out and the room with the skulls was spectacular. The animal exhibit made me feel small but the large collection of birds was nicely done.

I have never felt so compelled to write a review whilst still on holiday. We spent an absolutely fascinating few hours with our wonderful tour guide Hannah. She was so incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. She took us on an absolute journey around the museum. So much thought and love has gone into this place. The history was captivating -we were utterly absorbed and at times moved. This is a place you cannot miss if you are visiting Nairobi!
Umbreen K — Google review
Nice variety of things to see. It’s probably not the most modern of museums but certainly worth a visit. The lighting is not that great in many places, so make sure to take your best glasses if you want to see everything. Buying a ticket is also a bit of a mission, but probably understandable in the drive to do everything through “e-citizen”. On the other hand, the card machine in the shop was not working, so I was not able to purchase a souvenir.
Thomas M — Google review
National Museum of Kenya Nairobi is an interesting place to visit if one is in Nairobi. It tells the developmental and political history of the country, and gives an insight into the present population distribution. It is also a place to learn a lot about the zoogeography of the country as models of the various animal species are preserved at the museum. There's also a small zoo within the compound where a few life animals are showcased. The gate fee is about 1500 Kenyan shillings into the museum for foreigners. I'm not going to upload models as I'm not sure if this is allowed
Olu S — Google review
Solid museum. 1250 KES so basically $10 USD (Oct 2025). You need 2 hours to see the whole museum and maybe 3-4 hrs if you want to read thru. I enjoyed it, not amazing but still interesting to learn about animals and the history of Kenya. Independence granted by 1963. The are a bunch of birds that fills a 3 classroom size room with taxidermy birds. Pretty deep collection. There’s a snake zoo nearby inside and a small botanical garden. Random: no water bottles allowed so you’ll just place it on the front counter and pickup when you leave.
Justin L — Google review
Great museum to visit if you find yourself in Niarobi looking for a daytime activity. Lots of nicely presented displays on the history of Kenya, animals, birds, tribal history etc. also a snake exhibit. Enjoy!

We recommend you take about 3 hours out of your day to fully see this place. It was a really wonderful experience and we learned so much. The reptile house is great for kids. They make you leave your water bottles outside but you get them back in the end. Highly recommend!!

It's a lovely place located in Karen. Beautiful grounds. It's ideal for picnics and events. Other activities include boat riding, archery, horse riding, and viewing wildlife.

The place is completely run down. The restaurant is no longer functional, chipping paint and closed exhibitions. Sad sight. Crocodile feeding is at 4pm on Sunday. Other than that...nothing much to see

We had an amazing experience in Mamba Village! It was one of our best experiences! Thank you to Agnes who gave us the best tour around the village. She was so passionate and you could tell she loves her job. Really recommend to go and have a walk around.

We visited Mamba Crocodile Village in Nairobi and had a fantastic time—definitely a hidden gem! We bought our tickets at the entrance with no hassle, and a friendly staff member guided us around, giving us an up-close look at the crocodiles and even the ostriches. It’s a very underrated spot that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. While the property could use a bit of upgrading, the experience itself was memorable and well worth it. I’d highly recommend it to anyone in Nairobi with an hour or two to spare—great for families or anyone looking for something a bit different.

I loved loved this place. The best for picnics actually, the environment is so beautiful, I went there with a group of learners and we loved the experience. The guide who took us to see the crocodiles and tortoises was so knowledgeable. We felt like the place should have a restaurant in case one gets hungry?Even better is that they have shelters, so you could still have a great time when the weather is rainy
Fayee A — Google review
It's a good place for picnics but not fun activities. Entrance fee at 200 shillings for adult citizen. The archery was good, 2k per session, boat riding across Africa, they offer horse riding, they've got quite a number of crocodiles and there's an ostrich on site. I give it a 2
Jazanda E — Google review
Wild, weird, and unexpectedly heartwarming The best part? When the little tortoise popped out and raced toward me. I swear, it was like a slow-motion hug from nature. Moments like that just reaffirm your love for animals—you feel chosen. Like they somehow know you're one of the good ones. Then came the crocodile. Silent. Calculated. It moved toward me with stealth straight out of a wildlife documentary. I acted like I hadn’t noticed… but trust me, my heart was doing cartwheels. It was giving predator and prey—and I was the prey. For a second, I felt completely vulnerable, like a snack-sized visitor in its living room. Oddly enough, I loved the scare. I stayed on high alert the whole time—throwing glances here and there just in case an escapee was lurking. It felt like an extreme sport, but with sunbathing reptiles. That said, most of the animals were just vibing in the late morning sun, totally unbothered. Minding their business like retirees at a resort. Would I go again? Absolutely. But next time, I’m bringing a scaredy-cat friend—because what’s a little thrill without someone screaming beside you? Best part was when i paid local tour prices, who knew being Kenyan had its perks :)

Awesome place to get close to crocodiles. Bonus: the crocs are mostly those with some sort of injury that would prevent success in the wild.

The Karen Blixen Museum, located in Nairobi along Karen Road at the base of Ngong Hills, was once the home of the renowned author and coffee plantation owner. This 1920s farmhouse served as her residence from 1917 to 1931 and is now a museum showcasing original furnishings, photographs, and books that belonged to Karen Blixen and her husband.
Who hasn’t seen Out of Africa or read the book? If you’re in Niarobi looking for an interesting place to visit, then you just found it. The Biden house beautifully preserved with many original furnishings. You are given an escorted tour of the house and property with interesting description of history of the property. Watch the movie before you go to better appreciate the history of this once 6000 acre estate and coffee plantation!
Canyoudoanybetter — Google review
Interesting spot to visit. The guide was lovely and helpful, toilets are not clean, the cafe is nice, a small market is always there. A gift shop as well. If you’re a movie fan, watch “out of Africa “ before you go there
Loujayne A — Google review
The Karen Blixen Museum is charming but a bit limited. You can’t take photos inside the house, and there’s very little to read on your own, so you mostly depend on the guide. On the plus side, the guide is very friendly, the house is beautifully preserved, and enjoying a cup of coffee during the visit was definitely the highlight.
Agus S — Google review
Informative, historical, mind blowing and very familiar. Her story draw you in as though you might have crossed paths in a another life. The intricate pieces of her desires around the house leave you with a sense of awe and appreciation of her timeline. Great place to vosot to understand Karen the enigma and Karen the area
Indovu R — Google review
Well maintained museum and friendly staff. At the entrance you will be appointed a guide who will show you around. We did not feel rushed - the guide took it gentle and adjusted to our pace. The history behind Karen Blixen and the story of the house is explained. Recommendation: do take the nature walk! It’s beautiful.
Jeroen O — Google review
Museum was good in that you get to see Karen's house and understand her impact on the community. Our assigned guide was a young lady and she was very, very quiet so it was difficult to hear her.
Dani — Google review
The ban on photography inside the museum is quite unfortunate. This is because we can connect with the essence of the artifacts, transcending time and space. If the original creators were still alive, they would likely not want their works to be merely displayed for visitors to observe or exploited for profit. Of course, there are valid concerns about potential damage or contamination of the artifacts through photography. However, the relics in this museum are exhibits that are not susceptible to such issues. The dead are revived in the memories of the living. That is the true power of culture.

Lake Magadi

Lake
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Southernmost 32-km lake in the Kenyan Rift Valley & well known for its wading birds & flamingos.
This is a natural wonder. You need to visit. Beautiful is the word. A must see. Hot springs very therapeutic. The are is very hot. Dress for the weather. Carry swim wear it's a must to enter the water Lived every moment out there. Duncan our your tour guide was great
Stephen M — Google review
For the trip to Lake Magadi, its better to plan with a local guide so as to facilitate the entry as it is considered a 'private property' by the company which is extracting soda on the site. Also take into consideration that it is hot there, so dress accordingly. You will be able to see flamingoes, pelicans and other birds as well as admire the lake from the highest point on the site, whereby you will have to climb a 'hill'. According to the local guide, the number of flamingoes is decreasing significantly as they prefer to stay on the Tanzanian side now. There are hot springs where you can submerge your body so bring spare clothes with you if you want to try this unique experience. You can combine this trip with that of the Orlogesailie pre historic site with is on the same way and learn more about the history of the first humans.

Don't pay at the barrier, don't pay community voluntary guide until they take you to the view, we paid 4k for two people and we ended up not seeing the pink lake we were promised and the roads were terrible, I'm not even exaggerating.. if you want flamingos just go to lake Nakuru

Enjoyed visiting Lake magadi and Magadi township. The township is private property so getting past the main entrance gate might be tricky. The township is definitely worth the visit, the area is well organized with several social amenities eg clinic, schools, police post, supermarket, club etc
Vivian A — Google review
Magadi is breathtaking.... and so is the journey. I departed Nairobi at around 10am and had a leisurely ride on a Sunday. Surprisingly, very few people visit Magadi. I could count the number of cars that I passed. It is a great place to visit on a weekend and return the same day. The road is tarmacked all the way, apart from a section of almost 2Km about 10km before the Magadi sign board. It is murram with loose gravel... not good for a biker, but manageable. There are rolling hills all the way.... breathtaking. I stopped several times just to take in the view. Kenya is just so beautiful. As you approach Magadi you can see the salt lake on your right hand side. Before the barrier, as TATA industries manages it, the road passes between the water part of the lake, and on this Sunday, there was a clear sky, and i got near perfect mirror images in my photos. It's hard to believe the beauty of this country sometimes... you just have to experience it to believe it. I passed the barrier and then rode through to the town. It's a very small town with very few shops. Locals are ever friendly. I didn't get to the hot springs though, that is for my next Magadi trip... that's how amazing the journey was. I rode back leisurely too, and arrived Nairobi by 5pm. I recommend Magadi. It's not busy, so is perfect for a nice drive/ride ... even if you enjoy just the scenery, the journey will have been worth it. See you soon Magadi....
Suheha L — Google review
Apparently Magadi is grown like literally grown, maybe not like in sand it takes a few months to mature. Fun fact 2: only one part of the lakes has been explored since 1911!! So much potential.
Shammah N — Google review
We got a guide from Magadi sports club, navigation to the hot spring can be tricky with moving ground. Best time for the spa is in the evening when its not too hot. Dipping in a hot spring spa about 45 degrees celsius of saline water was such a therapeutic experience!
Pauline N — Google review
Magadi is the name we would call the naturally-occurring salt that we would feed to dairy cows. That was back in the day in Kitale. Anyway, as the name suggests, this place is the ground zero for natural salts called Trona that gets processed into soda ash. There's even a company run by Tata that processes this trona. Apart from trona processing, Lake Magadi makes a good destination for an out-of-town experience. From the hot springs that bubble out of the surface to the many flamingos that dot the landscape, it is a good place to take a break from the city life. The place is hot though and the humidity is also high, I bet because of the lake. From a distance, the salt sediment makes the lake look pink in color and that's quite a spectacle. This place is also ideal for photography and birding. I would highly recommend this place for a visit.

We had an incredible experience at Browns Cheese Factory! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed warmly and treated to a wonderful tour of the facility. It was fascinating to see the cheese-making process up close, and our guide was both knowledgeable and friendly, answering all our questions with enthusiasm. The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the cheese tasting! The variety of samples we tried was amazing, and each one was fresh and full of flavor. The food provided alongside the cheese was delicious, making the experience even more delightful. Overall, Browns Cheese Factory exceeded our expectations, offering not only high-quality products but also a memorable experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and tasty day out!

Had a beautiful tour of the farm, they explain the process of manufacturing the cheeses, ice creams, sour dough, all round good day. The farm has a rich history and a great story. Enjoyed the lunch provided 🍽 which was basically farm to fork, and I love it! Tasted all the cheeses🧈🧀🍞🫓 all the sour dough. I would highly recommend going for this farm tour it really surpassed my expectations. Dessert was coffee and Delia's ice cream ofcourse 🍦. The location is lovely, and I ended the tour buying a few goodies at the farm shop. Booking in advance via website is required.

An amazing place to experience! Brown's dairy makes yummy products and it was awesome to witness everything first hand. We had a complete tour of the facility. Cheese platter followed by lunch was delicious! The desert was ice cream made by them, of course! Greenery everywhere and the farm animals are very nice too. Book via their website and make sure to wear proper footwear as your feet might get soaked inside the dairy.

What a wonderful day to visit the Brown's Cheese Farm. The weather was in our favour as well! As you arrive, you are welcomed with smiles from friendly staff and a welcome drink. You are then sitted at a well set table with a fire burning in the background to keep you warm. Like a 5-star hotel, the menu is printed and elgantly placed on the table with some beautiful flowers. The welcome drink is a choice between lime juice and raspberry juice, or you can have both! The waiters are well trained, courteous, and quick with service. You are then served with 3 cheese samosas, sorghum crackers, and carrot hummus. Hmmm delicious 😋. After that, for hygiene purposes, you are given a coat and head cover for the factory tour. Taken round and explained in detail what they do and how they started. How they source products from local farmers and promote the use of natural products. The cheese is processed with vegetable fermenting products. The tour is about 20 minutes, and thereafter, on a beautiful Platter, you are served with a variety of different cheese they produce at the farm. This comes with fresh bread and crackers freshly made at their farm. Soooo filling!...and soooo delicious!. Their very own cream cheese with paprika and sesame seeds is divine! The lunch is pumpkin soup and some fresh salads and greens for the vegetarians. For the meat eaters, there is soup, lamb and chapati, and greens. All the food is fresh and delicious 😋 Their very own ice cream is then served with coffee. I could not stand up from the table after all the food we were served with. Tooooo full! 🤪 You can then go and buy some of their fresh cheese and products from their in-house shop. Wonderfully organized! It's totally worth it.! P.S. You can also have wine from a wide variety at an extra price.

Highly recommend. The tour guide knows and is passionate about food. The cheese is AMAZING The location is peaceful and like a rambling hobby farm. The lunch was yummy and paired with south Australian wine. Would definitely go again!

The dairy and bakery are in a beautiful flower filled setting about one hour drive from CBD or Kilimani. Excellent guide explaining all the dairy processing and cheese making. Then the newer operation of milling and backing bread and crackers as well as vegan cheese. The Browns farm history is now over 45 years. Nic cheese and beverage snack before the tour and wonderful lunch: ten cheese plate, condiments 3 types crackers and 3 types of bread, lots of drinks with wine to buy. The five salads on the buffet were outstanding as was the Thai flavored grilled chicken. Basically, farm to fork. Just the meal and snack was worth the entire fee. Highly recommend going for this farm tour it really surpassed my expectations. I bought lots at the farm shop. Booking in advance via website is required.

Kiambethu Tea Farm

Farm household tour

Historic tea planation on a site including gardens & indigenous forest, with tours & dining.
Absolutely an amazing tour! I was on the fence and I'm happy I was able to make it. The talks were very engaging and entertaining. I learnt a lot about the production of coffee and also the business of it. The food was also amazing. I'd totally pay the same for just the lunch. Most importantly, they were so kind to accommodate my tight schedule and provided an expedited lunch experience. They also offered the driver some lunch which was an extra nice touch. I've never felt so welcomed in a place. Now, looking forward to tasting the teas I purchased!

We had the most amazing experience at Kiambethu . The visit to this tea estate was the highlight of our trip . It was a perfect day . Sunny and clear . The drive to Kiambethu is amazing. Absolutely pristine. It’s very close to Nairobi and within 45 mins from city centre one can get here . Once there you’re in the lap of nature . Fiona who’s the 3rd generation family member running this tour ( started in 1970) is really a bundle of energy. Her presence is lively and she’s full of knowledge and speaks with passion . She took us on a tour around her beautiful estate and answered all our questions . This place is one you have to experience as photos and words don’t do enough Justice. Fiona and her daughter Sara are excellent hosts . They offered us tea and home made array of cookies . Lunch was super awesome with wines , drinks , soup , main course and delectable ice cream from farm fresh milk which comes from their own cattle . Never realised how 3 hours passed . I strongly recommend this experience to one and all who is visiting Kenya . The 35 USD you spend is well worth every penny spent .
Nihal S — Google review
An experience I recommend 100%. The hospitality of the hosts, the explanation of the planting process, tea harvesting, and everything else is incredible. We finished the whole activity at around 2:45 pm. They give you a tour and explanation of their harvest fields. There is also tea tasting and some snacks to accompany it. Then comes lunch, and everything is delicious! Everything is very tasty, from the salad to the meat and dessert. What an experience! I would definitely do it again.

An amazing experience as I enjoyed every single moment of it. You'll learn about the history of the farm and how the tea gets produced from the leaf to what you get already in your cup. I absolutely enjoyed the delicious lunch and homemade ice cream as well.

This is one of the best places I have been to since I came to Nairobi two years ago, it has unparalleled gardens, vast tea gardens, very hospitable hosts, patiently told us interesting stories about the tea gardens, we had a wonderful day here, we will bring our friends here to visit here again for sure. it is undoubtedly the best place to relax the mind, You need to calm down and slowly feel the flowers and trees in this century-old manor, a great experience, highly recommended

If you want an experience that sparks pure joy this is it! The setting is absolutely stunning in a beautiful garden with a backdrop of the Tigoni tea fields You are treated to a delightful witty and endearing talk by Fiona where you learn so much about Tea and then you get to see the tea fields. You take a break with a lovely cup of tea in the gardens and then do a walk around the farm and forest before sitting down for a delightful buffet lunch again overlooking the garden. I learned so much it was the most wonderful way to spend our Public holiday.
Zahra S — Google review
Love the tour the farm had. But DO NOT book this farm tour with a tour agency! Please read. The farm itself is amazing and gives a wonderful tour and look around the property along with an amazing lunch for $35. Highly recommend. The place was so chill and just a great way to spend a few hours from the city and the tea was cheap to buy! As to save money, what you should do is go on the farm website and book the tour yourself and then just Uber to the farm - it may seem a bit far depending on where you are in Nairobi, but could save you a lot of money. The tour agency essentially are just driving you there. They do nothing else. So if you're traveling with others or even just alone. Look to see how much an Uber would cost you and just book the farm tour yourself from the website. Maybe it might be a bit hard to get an Uber from the farm back into the city but I don't think so, or you could even ask some of the other drivers there from a tour agency to drop you off somewhere.

Mount Longonot National Park

National park
Nature & Parks
Nature area home to a dormant volcano with a forest-filled crater & a popular hike around the rim.
An unforgettable mountain climbing trip. It took us more than an hour to reach the summit. Although we were very tired, the scenery of the entire mountaintop seen at the crater was shocking. The entire mountaintop was a circular landscape left after a volcanic eruption. There was a huge pan-like plain at the bottom. You could walk around the circular route at the summit to enjoy the scenery from different angles. The uncanny workmanship of nature is astonishing.
Ken S — Google review
It has been a while since I went for a hike. The Mountain is a bit steep. Going around is another plus. It's an ultimate experience.
Shiftaholmes — Google review
Everything was great except the fact that we couldn't enter with plastic bottles and had to buy reusable bottles from the shops nearby. We tried negotiating with the manager and at one point, when we told him that we are from where we are, he answered with a racial slur. Other than that, the park is beautiful and well maintained
Roi D — Google review
Well we do love a volcano hike, and who doesn't? The hike starts at the visitor centre, here you pay for your ticket and they check your bag for disposal bottles, these aren't allowed. Id suggest at least 2 litres per person if you plan o doing the full rim hike. Id recommend buying your ticket online before hand, saves any issues on the day, a group we spoke to advised it took them over an hour due to payment issues. The walk starts flat for the first couple of k's. To get to the rim there are 2 main climbs, take it easy and you will be fine. We went to the summit, anti clockwise around the rim, the climb is steep and on unstable ground but certainly doable, there is a troop of babbons who call the summit home. We continued around the summit and back down to the start, overall it was a great day. Definitely recommend going early to get the climbs done in the cooler morning.

Fantastic hike and views. The entry to the National Park is ridiculously high however at $50 USD each! Just to walk around. The white tax will ruin Kenya's tourism industry.

Crescent Island Game Sanctuary, also known as Naivasha's best-kept secret, is a stunning wildlife reserve situated on a peninsula in Lake Naivasha. Accessible only by boat, it offers an opportunity to walk among various animals such as giraffes, zebras, hippos, and pelicans. The sanctuary is renowned for its rich birdlife and diverse wildlife population including zebra, buffalo, impala, and gazelle.
If you're heading back from the Masai Mara, don't miss the opportunity to make a small but unforgettable detour to Crescent Island Game Sanctuary. What makes Crescent Island truly special is that you walk among the animals. No safari jeeps, no barriers - just you, the wildlife, and the stunning landscapes of Lake Naivasha with Mount Longonot providing a serene backdrop. It's a unique opportunity to feel immersed in the environment while still being safe and guided. You’ll encounter animals usually seen only from a distance in a vehicle, the sanctuary is teeming with life such as Zebras, Gazelles, Impalas, Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Giraffes, Monkeys. Bird lovers will also be delighted. The boat ride across Lake Naivasha is a highlight in itself—where pelicans glide, African fish eagles swoop for their catch, and hippos lazily pop up near the boat, offering an eye-opening and peaceful experience that contrasts with the typical safari rush. Crescent Island may not be as well-known as Kenya’s big parks, but it offers something different - intimacy, tranquility, and a chance to truly connect with wildlife on foot.
Eunice E — Google review
It was incredible to be so up close and personal with some of Kenya’s most beautiful animals - wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, gazelles, and hippos. Our guide, George, was great. Very knowledgeable about the best places to view the wildlife.
Makenzie P — Google review
Crescent Island on Lake Naivasha is a true gem, offering a unique and unforgettable experience. I hadn't realized it was a game sanctuary until I arrived, which made the visit an even more pleasant surprise. The park entrance fee for a non-resident adult is KSh 4,000, while children (ages 5-15) pay KSh 2,000. The island gets its name from its crescent moon shape, and it's the perfect setting for a walking safari. The experience is incredible because you can get remarkably close to the wildlife on foot. My most memorable encounters were at the beginning of the walk with a herd of majestic giraffes and, at the end, seeing a hippo grazing by the island's shore. Along the way, we also spotted ostriches, waterbucks, zebras, monkeys, various antelope species, and a great variety of birds. After the safari, we stopped at a charming café at the end of the walking trail. It was a great spot to relax and refuel. I highly recommend their delicious homemade gelato. They also offer a selection of drinks, coffee, beer, and snacks. Crescent Island is a must-visit for anyone looking for a more intimate and peaceful wildlife experience away from the traditional safari crowds.
Insos S — Google review
Where the lake kisses the sky and the wind whispers through the acacia trees, Crescent Island welcomes you into a world where nature walks beside you. This peaceful sanctuary in the heart of Lake Naivasha offers something rare — the chance to stroll freely among Kenya’s gentle wildlife. With no barriers or vehicles, you're part of the landscape, not just a visitor. Our guide, Bridget, brought the island to life with her warmth, knowledge, and storytelling. She patiently explained the behavior of the animals, answered our many questions, and even helped us capture some stunning photos along the way. We were lucky to spot a variety of wildlife including giraffes, zebras, monkeys, wildebeest, and an ostrich. But the most touching moment was seeing a baby giraffe nestled beside its mother — a quiet, graceful scene that felt like something out of a nature documentary. Crescent Island is more than just a tour; it’s a gentle escape into the rhythm of the wild. Whether you’re a nature lover, a photographer, or simply looking for peace, this place will stay with you long after you leave. And if you can, ask for Bridget — she truly makes the journey unforgettable.
Honest R — Google review
Crescent Island in Lake Naivasha is a truly unique and unforgettable experience. The island has an interesting history, as it was originally created as a filming location for the movie Out of Africa. True to its name, the island is shaped like a crescent, giving it a distinctive charm and making it an ideal spot for nature walks and wildlife viewing. The highlight of visiting Crescent Island is being able to walk freely among the animals in their natural habitat. It feels like stepping into an open-air wildlife sanctuary without fences. We were lucky to see giraffes, including a baby giraffe, as well as many zebras grazing peacefully around us. Hippos can also be spotted near the water, and we even came across an ostrich during our walk, which made the experience even more memorable. The walk is very enjoyable and can be done at your own pace, but guides are available if you’d like more insights into the wildlife and history of the island. The entry charges are USD 33 or KSH 4000 for adult non-residents, which feels well worth it for such a unique and close-to-nature experience. Crescent Island is definitely a must-visit if you are exploring Lake Naivasha. It’s a perfect mix of serenity, adventure, and wildlife encounters that you won’t forget.
Uva P — Google review
Very beautiful and an amazing experience to be on an island surrounded by so much wildlife. After game drives, it's really magical to walk alongside the animals.

Crescent Island is not a zoo. And if you just want to tick things off your list like walking up to majestic and beautiful animals for a photo, maybe you should give this a miss. But if you love and respect wildlife, this is a must visit. No other place offers this kind of an awe inspiring experience. A guide is not compulsory, but I highly recommend it. We went on a lovely walk across the island with Faith who was not just a treasure trove of knowledge, but peppered our conversations with nuggets of invaluable perspective on the complex and beautiful relationship between animals, nature, and us human beings. An absolute delight. And I’m trying to hide this at the end of the review so that the entitled and lazy might miss it - but yes, you do go up to and walk with giraffes, zebras, gazelles, wildebeest and more. Please be respectful to them, though. And offer kudos and thanks to the lovely people who keep this place going.

Amazing experience! We were not sure what to expect, but everything was done with great respect for the animals. Went for the third time for Safari Series bike races. Afterwards, we took a trip to the gorges. The park has nice gravel roads, you can enjoy the game on your bike. I loved it.

Hell's Gate National Park (Enemeneng'a) has a lot to offer. Most outstanding are the volcanic plugs: Fisher's Tower and Central Tower. You will also find rock outcrops and hot springs all as result of erosion and volcanic activity respectively.

Absolutely incredible. This was my favourite part of the safari, beating Masai Mara and Amboseli. We chose to bike through the park getting very close to the animals. It had a completely different feeling compared to the safari-van. It is great for a few hours and as a complement to other parks.

My husband and I visited Hell’s Gate in October 2024, and it turned out to be one of the most unique and unforgettable adventures we’ve ever had. Cycling through this stunning landscape is an experience like no other! Bicycles are easily available for rent at the entrance, and taking a guide is completely optional, we explored on our own and felt perfectly safe throughout the visit. Do remember to carry water and some snacks, as there are no facilities once you enter the park. Even the toilets are only available at the entry and exit points. The best part? The wildlife experience! Animals roam freely around you, and cycling right beside them is simply amazing. We were lucky to spot warthogs, cape buffalo, giraffes, zebras, different types of deer, wildebeest, and so many more. It truly felt like pedaling through nature’s playground. I highly recommend opting for the cycle ride here. It’s absolutely worth visiting and offers memories that will stay with you forever.

1. Geothermal Activity: The park has geothermal power plants and hot springs. 2. Spectacular Scenery: It features dramatic cliffs, gorges, and volcanic rock formations. 3. Wildlife Viewing: You can see various wildlife species, including zebras, giraffes, and gazelles. 4. Rock Climbing & Hiking: The park is a popular spot for rock climbing and hiking. 5. Walking Safari: It's one of the few parks where you can walk or cycle without a guide.
Sumith D — Google review
Hell’s Gate National Park is an incredible destination! The scenery is breathtaking, with towering cliffs, deep gorges, and unique rock formations that make it unlike any other park. I loved being able to walk, cycle, and even hike through the park while spotting wildlife up close. The geothermal features and natural hot springs add an extra layer of beauty. It’s adventurous yet peaceful—a perfect place for nature lovers and anyone looking for an active outdoor experience. Highly recommend visiting!”
Immanuel A — Google review
Underwhelming. Not really worth the visit if you care about predators or if you’ve been to other parks to see animals. Extra charges for everything in addition to park entry - bicycle fee, guide required for seeing the gorge, etc. if you’ve never seen an antelope, zebra, Buffalo or warthog and can’t go to another park, you can see them here
Serena L — Google review
One of very few wildlife parks that actually let you walk through with zebras and giraffes casually strolling by. However, if you are getting a guide for the stroll from outside the gates, make sure to negotiate the terms before you go in or your experience might end on a sour note. Our guide Chris insisted on us buying an entry ticket for him and then insisted on a 50USD fee for taking three of us through the park once we were done. A fine experience marred at the end for not wanting to squabble over expenses we know were unnecessarily high. As a tourist wanting to give back to the community, we had a mind to tip him but found that he insisted on way way more himself. Not a good feeling to end up cheated. Well, it is what it is. Good park. Guide not necessary till you hit the gorge. Negotiate terms. Avoid Chris. Update: Realised later that the guided trip through the gorge should last between 60 to 90 minutes. For us, it was barely 15 minutes. And our guide Chris also insisted on us paying for a 6 to 12 seater van even though we took a 6 seater in to pick us up at the end of the trail. Scam upon scam. Avoid.

Never again ... Music until 3am in the morning, people in neighboring tents shouting and putting loud music and the staff doesn't care. It took us 1 hour and a half to get breakfast (2 coffees and 2 omelettes). The tents are good but don't go there if you want to spend a peaceful holiday in nature.

Great for camping by the shores of Lake Oloiden. We enjoyed bonfire, a cool breeze from the Lake, singing birds, sunset, hot clean showers, clean amenities i.e toilets and bathroom are well maintained and cleaned hourly. The environment is clean carpeted with a well groomed natural grass no mud! They have a section for kids to play separate from other adult campers. Oloiden campsite has a great team that responds to client on a timely manner. The reception team is well organized 👌 I recommend Oloiden for couples, friends and family camping

We arrived in the evening and spent the night in our own tent. Camping is 2500 KSH / Person. It is a bit more expensive but the Showers and Toilets are very clean and we got to enjoy a personal bonfire. There is also a Dinner if you want. The personell is very nice

Very good camp. There are tents if you don't have your own. The scenery is 10/10 facing the lake. The field is well kept making it very beautiful and suitable for a little play. Their food is also worth the money. Be aware the temperature can be a little cold. I recommend!

This a perfect picnic chill spot in Naivasha. It's so serene and it's just by the lake so the views are immaculate. Also they allow you to enter with drinks from outside. Only problem is their food took forever to get ready. And the hard liquor on site will cost you an arm and leg. But apart from that, it's definitely worth your time.

Where silence speaks in waves and nature writes poetry on water. Oloiden, you’re not just a camping site — you’re a soul sanctuary. From the still, steaming lake that kisses the horizon to the wild whispers of acacia trees and the soft crunch of earth beneath our tents — this is where memories pitch themselves in peace. Naivasha holds her secrets gently, but Oloiden? During my visit to Soysambu Conservancy for the WRC Rally 2024, I was blown away by the incredible experience it offered. Nestled in stunning natural surroundings, the conservancy boasts an abundance of wild animals and breathtaking landscapes. The management team at Soysambu provided exceptional service, ensuring that every aspect of our visit was smooth and enjoyable. From camping facilities to delicious food options and exciting game drives, they went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. What truly sets Soysambu apart is the unique blend of rally excitement and wildlife encounters. It's a place where the thrill of the rally meets the beauty of nature, creating an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. Overall, my time at Soysambu Conservancy was nothing short of amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adventure-filled getaway where you can immerse yourself in the wonders of both rally and wildlife.

A conservancy covering a large expanse of land. Mixed use case for both wildlife and cattle herders with bandas constructed to house cattle at night. It skirts around Lake Elementaita and has a modest population of giraffes, grevy zebras, antelopes and buffaloes. Has intricate paths and makes for a good mountain bike ride experience especially with the spectacular views. It is served with three airstrips. Dotted around are concrete-built watering holes for the animals, both wild and domestic, during the dry seasons.

Beautiful scenery, open spaces, great access to Lake Elementaita. Mainly saw herbivores, the carnivorous animals are harder to catch

The place is amazing, beautiful wildlife and interactive people (especially the herders), and the wildlife is moderately diverse. The wardens are quite friendly to foreigners than they are to locals but that is typical of most places in Kenya. Other than that, its an amazing place to visit.

Lake Nakuru, a soda lake located in Rift Valley and surrounded by fenced areas, is a must-visit destination for wildlife enthusiasts. The park offers an excellent opportunity to spot rhinoceroses, making it one of the best places in Africa for such sightings. In addition to rhinos, the lake boasts numerous flamingos and other animals that can be observed during safaris. The park's entrance fee is 880 and it features stunning natural beauty that makes it well worth the visit.
This is the lake to visit if you love watching birds and other wildlife!! Especially quantity of species is incredible. Flamingos, pelicans, stocks… If you stay here, book a cheap lodge or the campground in the park, now you can also do a morning safari. There are quite a few lions around, look after swarms of cars, then there are definitely lions around. Perfectly fine to do a drive here for 5 hours

Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya Nestled in the heart of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru is a paradise for nature lovers. Known for its vibrant flocks of Flamingos, diverse Birdlife, and rich Wildlife. Also this Park is a home to two species of Rhinos: the White Rhino and the Black Rhino. It’s truly a jewel of Kenya.... A perfect blend of scenic beauty and wildlife wonders!

Amazing park at 2-3 h ride from Nairobi. Many animals can be seen at a short distance for some of them. About the birds, it will depend upon the season.... The only grey zone is the number of Range Rover you will be crossing on the way...

TLDR: THERE ARE NO MORE FLAMINGOES HERE Usually you go to a place and find out its beauty, splendor, whatever has been greatly exaggerated. You come to expect it even. It's very rare you go to a place and find you've been completely lied to. Sadly Nakuru is one of these places. Google and major tourist websites book this place out as the number 1 place to see flamingoes. What they won't tell you is that this information is about 10 years outdated. Today you would be lucky to see ANY let alone a large number of flamingoes. I went to Lake Nakuru in 27 June 2025, keep in mind June is start of dry season in Kenya. I was told I would be able to see flamingoes all year round in Lake Nakuru, the peak being in dry season which is June - February, where I would be able to see huge flocks. I. Did. Not. See. A. Single. Flamingo. Not. A. Single. One. Guide told me this year they're late, it's been too rainy this season etc etc. A quick Google search reveals I'm not the only one who's encountered flamingo non existante in Lake Nakuru and that the numbers here have been steadily dwindling over the years due to bad governance and destruction of habitat. Most of the reviews I've seen mentioning flamingo sightings either have no pics or very polished stock photos that are likely not theirs. Fake reviews. Maybe if you go late July/ August you would see some, but prepare to be disappointed. People have mentioned Lake Bogoria and Lake Elementaita as alternative options to view flamingoes but from reviews and Google searches they also seem inconsistent. Photo I took of Lake Nakuru, the white birds are all pelicans

Great park, lots of wildlife - saw rhino, zebra and just missed a leopard! Shame water level is currently high so many roads inaccessible and very few flamingo
Dominic — Google review
Park is flooded, less chances of seeing anything or driving around the area. We saw few baboons, few far rhinos and hornbills. I won’t recommend this till the flood water is settled or the roads have been made to connect to the wild life.

The main attraction is the falls. Very beautiful ..you just need to go and watch and listen to the water and unwind. For a small fee you can do it.. The lodge was set up many years ago and has that British old feel to it.se people really do appreciate the old cottages with wooden floor s whilst others are hooked to the very modern way .but everything works . The food comes quite fast after taking orders.

Wonderful place for a relaxing staycation. The lodge is located right next to the falls. Tthe beautiful trees and lawns, together with the logged-interior buildings create a rustic aesthetic. The staff have a professional aura. The rooms are simple and comfortable, with a fully functional fireplace and a fireman who builds the fire for you, leaving a few logs behind for you to add to it when it dwindles, making sure the rooms are always toasty. Their food is up to standard, although they don't have an extensive vegetarian diet, there's always veggie curry! Breakfast and lunch are buffet style but you can always request your preference. The kids playground is kid-friendly with a view of the falls to enjoy. (Ksh.100 per kid) The weather is chilly in the evening and morning (pack your sweaters and socks!) yet sunny in the afternoon (don't forget your sun hat!)

Maintained a beautiful lawn, beautiful compound that provides tranquility. Old is gold and they have some ancient door locks, light switches that take me down childhood memory lane. The 1930 premises they have truly tried to maintain it. The wood roof from the side looks quite artistic on the side but the roof from the top needs a touch. Market the Hotel from it's rich history. Have some modern rooms and others with the archaic look and let a client make a choice.

Lake Bogoria

Mentioned on

Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Lake Bogoria is a stunning saline lake located within the rift basin, known for its large population of pink flamingoes and impressive geysers that shoot up to 16 feet high. The alkaline lake is situated within a community national reserve, making it an affordable destination to visit. Accessible from Mogotio town or Marigat, the journey to the lake requires a 4x4 vehicle due to rough off-road terrain comprising mostly of rocks.
Specialty of Lake Bogoria 1. Soda Lake: pH ranges from 9 to 12, very alkaline. 2. Flamingo Population: Supports up to 1 million lesser flamingos at peak times. 3. Geothermal Activity: Over 10 geysers and numerous hot springs. 4. Location: Situated in the Kenyan Rift Valley, about 250 km northwest of Nairobi. 5. Depth: Average depth around 3 meters; maximum up to 5 meters. 6. UNESCO Status: Listed as part of the Kenya Lake System UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. 7. Bird Habitat: Hosts over 400 bird species, including large flamingo populations. 8. Outflow: No permanent surface outflow; water loss mainly through evaporation. 9. Algae (Spirulina): Produces significant spirulina biomass, supporting flamingos. 10. Water Levels: Can vary extensively—water surface area ranges from 30 to 100 square km depending on season and rainfall.

Nice place for day trip or camping. Flamingos easily visible. Poor network coverage and the road is very rough

It's a good place although nowadays it's too smelly and messy, it's not clean and if u visit kindly be armed with clean drinking water, Gas masks or good face masks as its smelly, 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended here....
ENGINEER K — Google review
I have visited Bogoria lake 6 years ago with plenty of wildlife, birds, flamingoes, antilopes and with it's rough roads. Since then, the park has degraded, roads got worst (good 4WD is necessary), wildlife has been replaced with cattles and the roads are full of rubbishes (see pictures) so not sure why do we have to pay park fees... I change my 5 stars to a 2 stars experience. Baringo and Elementaita lakes are much more worth it, highly recommend Elementaita for flamingoes, wildlife and camping and Baringo for camping on the islands or enjoying the lodges by the lake.
Lancelot P — Google review
The color of the lake was mysterical and the flamingoes were so beautiful. You can bring and boil the eggs there in hot spring water. I suggest to put the eggs in a vegetable net to protect your hands from hot water. The road is very rough.
Joy K — Google review
The lake is a yardstick of governance devolution failure, The game reserve has seen a drastic decline in conservation of biodiversity from when it was handed over from The Kenya Wildlife Service to the Baringo County Government. Having visited the reserve periodically over 3 decades, i can confidently conclude that it's hanging by a thread - largely affected by poor conservation measures, human activities in the reserve, poor road infrastrusture designs that degraded the environment. It is much more harder to spot wildlife species that were commonly sighted a few years ago, needless to say its core attraction the Lesser Flamingoes are now down to a handful and most of the geysers are now submerged.
Bore E — Google review
The water level has gone very high in the last few years so you cannot see most of the geysers, there was only one small place you could see some boiling water in the ground, nice as it is, it isn't worth the 45 min drive. The flamingos you can see only from the distance, so you better look for them in lake Nakuru.
Orna L — Google review
Beautiful place. For one to best enjoy Lake Bogoria I strongly recommend that one reads up on the geological formations and processes that led to the creation of this lake before and during the tour. You will enjoy the flamingoes, the hot springs, the flora and fauna. Do not attempt the drive in a small car. You will simply spoil your trip. Your car and tyres, if you make it, will get some damage, and you will end up giving the place an unwarranted bad review

Mount Elgon has the widest volcanic base in the world, the majority of which makes up this park.
Our guide David was fantastic. Very knowledgeable – I highly recommend doing a tour of the park with him. We visited multiple caves and waterfalls. In total we spent around 5 or 6 hours in the park. It was an amazing experience. Definitely bring flashlights (for the caves) and wear clothes suitable for difficult hiking.

My group did a guided tour. It was a little bit of everything and we got a good breadth of the park! Different animals, not enough, including monkeys and bat caves. We even got to see an elephant! The views from one of the viewing area are amazing, you can see Uganda in the distance!

Such a beautiful park. I didn’t get to explore much because the rain pours! And I mean pours! So many animals and I didn’t even drive so far from the gate. Will update when I return 😏

This place made us experience it! The road to Mt.Elgon is bumpy and muddy on the rainy days! But once we arrived it was all worth it , went for the safari in the park saw afew water bucks , zebras , monkeys .. as we drove on there was a tree that had fallen blocking the whole road! But we dint stop we got off the car and headed to the nature trail to kiptum caves , that was muddy ,sliddy .. but that was the fun .. after getting to the caves and waterfall it was so relaxing ,so peaceful and rejuvenating! It was a good one !

Speke Memorial Monument, source of the Nile

Sights & Landmarks
The Speke Memorial Monument, source of the Nile, is a significant historical landmark in Jinja, Uganda. It commemorates the British explorer John Hanning Speke's discovery of the Nile's source in 1858. The bronze statue of Speke on a granite pedestal offers views of the River Nile and is surrounded by gardens on its western banks. Visitors can enjoy a calm ambiance and beautiful scenery while taking in the view across to the Mahatma Gandhi Monument.
It was very educative and adventurous. I enjoyed reading the history of the great man John Hannington Speke along with other European explorers into Africa - particularly Uganda.

The history is significant but I didn't think the monument itself offers much. However, I highly recommend services of the nearby Living Waters hotel. Excellent staff, great view of the intersection of R. Nile, source of the Nile and Lake Victoria. Plus, the spiced tea from the restaurant (10k) was amazing. Their accommodation options are varied and designed well

We wanted to visit the Speke Monument, but then there is Living Waters Resort before that. They want a 10,000 UGX / per person fee. Ridiculous, it is as if the monument is owned by the resort. We wanted to skip the monument but were made to pay fee by the rude management just because we had crossed the entry gate of the resort and took a couple of pictures of the River Nile. Tourism board needs to evaluate it 👎
Kamran ( — Google review
The park is great, but this little memorial was not well maintained. And I would say it's not the most culturally sensitive as it portrays the white guy who discovered something in Africa.

The Itanda Falls, also known as the White Nike, offers an impressive display of falls and rapids. Visitors can embark on a comprehensive tour which includes a boat ride, allowing them to explore small islands and witness more of the stunning waterfalls and rapids. The friendly and knowledgeable hosts enhance the experience. However, it is important to note that entry fees may vary for foreigners or 'muzungus', necessitating negotiation with local hosts.

A Raw, Untamed Beauty Itanda Falls is a hidden gem, a testament to nature's raw power. The thundering cascades and the lush greenery surrounding them create an awe-inspiring spectacle. It's a place where you can truly connect with nature, feeling the mist on your face and the vibrations of the rushing water. The falls are well-organized, with clear pathways and viewing points. However, there seems to be an issue with uncontrolled toll collection by gatekeepers, which can be frustrating. It's a minor blemish on an otherwise perfect experience. If you're seeking an adventure and a chance to witness nature's grandeur, Itanda Falls is a must-visit. Just be prepared for a bit of chaos at the entrance.

It was such a great experience having gone there. Good views especially the speedy falls from the Nile. We were lucky that the day we went there we happened to find a group doing rafting making it a great feeling for us watching them. They have some good art crafts like the animals such a giraffes, rhinos , elephants, zebras we bought around there at relatively good price😊. I would advise you carry something to eat for yourself coz we were told the place is still under construction after selling it to someone else so for now any sorts of food provisions like fish are out of bounds. Also another thing I would recommend you visit on a sunny day the road leading to the falls is so messy on rainny days

Wonderful, the power of water is incredible. More than 3000 m3 per second. You can do activities like rafting. The best place in my opinion.

i am no swimmer but this place gave me the best water experience i have ever had. definitely going back! i did a boat ride and explored one of the islands. i also had a chance to swim on the waterfalls and my guide was kind enough to help me swim on the Nile. downside is accessing the place. it is a very dusty ride all the way from Jinja to Itanda so cover up😄. But all the dust trouble is totally worth it💯

Naturally beautiful place located along River Nile the world's longest river in Jinja district, Uganda with a wonderful scenery. Turbulent waterfalls creating a naturally mesmeric sound. A view of some beautiful huge rocks within the River. Neighbored by rocks & pine trees. The atmosphere is really natural

This is the perfect place to camp. The weather isn’t too hot and isn’t too cold. You’d hardly ever need a jacket, even after it rains.

Nestled atop Kampala Hill in Old Kampala, the Uganda National Mosque, also known as the Gaddafi National Mosque, stands as a magnificent testament to Islamic architecture and culture. This grand mosque is not only the largest in East Africa but also serves as a significant landmark that reflects historical ties between Libya and Uganda. Originally commissioned by former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, it was built to benefit the local Muslim community and can accommodate thousands of worshippers at once.
My long awaited dream came true after visiting this wonderful mosque... It has a wonderful view from outside, very soothing inside. It brought me peace once I got inside. It has got a long minar, that added the Mosque's beauty. Both men and women can pray separately. Car parking and a place for oju are available in the mosque... The mosque is Carpeted inside.

Lively domestic. Enjoyed the tour guide. Witnessed the call to prayer while inside. We were able to climb to the top of the minaret and see the whole city from a bird’s eye view.

This mosque is on the hill at the center of Kampala. I highly recommend the climb on top of the minaret. The interior is an interesting mix of Arabic and African craftmanship.

While on Kampala City Tour, Visiting Gaddafi Mosque is a “Must do “Activity ! The Mosque is rich in history as it was first built by President Iddi Amin who unfortunately was exiled before its completion until the former President of Libya took responsibility of reconstructing it. It is made of beautiful architectural designs of African, Arabic and European decent! While at the Mosque tower, you are able to view the seven hills that made Kampala of today! I would highly recommend visiting the Mosque during your Kampala city tour!

This is the biggest moshjid of Uganda which can cater 20 thousands muslim for prayer. It has beautiful interior. You can climb up the Minar to the top and see the entire city. You can also climb up to the middle of the Minar and still see the city. Once you buy tickets, they will give you a local guide who will explain the history this beautiful moshjid. Tip him/her. Will not take much time to cover this attraction. Tips: women have to be in covered clothings. however, you can get free scarfs to cover urself.

Beautiful Masjid in the heart of Kampala. I visited during Eid, and although most of the tafsir wasn't in English, it had the soothing atmosphere you'd expect in places of worship

Uganda National Mosque, Kampala – formerly the Gaddafi National Mosque, because apparently, when you want the biggest mosque in Uganda, you ask Libya for a favor. Sitting atop Kisenyi Hill, it’s the second tallest structure in Kampala, staring down the city like a gleaming concrete judge. Funded by Libya and completed in 2006, its turquoise dome and towering minaret scream ambition… and maybe mild obsession. Step inside, and the cavernous prayer hall swallows you whole, echoing like it’s rehearsing for the apocalypse. Visitors are welcome, but climb the minaret at your own risk: the view of Kampala is breathtaking, mildly disorienting, and subtly judgmental. From up here, the city bustle seems trivial, reminding you that devotion, power, and concrete stacking are all serious business, especially when international funding gets involved.

Stunning mosque with peaceful atmosphere! Gaddafi National Mosque is beautiful and very well-maintained. The architecture is impressive, the prayer halls are spacious, and the environment is calm and welcoming. The staff are friendly and helpful, making it easy for visitors to feel comfortable. A must-visit for anyone who wants to experience peace, devotion, and beautiful Islamic architecture in Uganda. 🌙🤲

The Uganda Museum, established in 1908, is a significant cultural institution in East Africa. Situated on Kitante Hill in Kampala, it offers a captivating journey through Uganda's past. The museum features sections dedicated to various aspects of heritage, including traditional musical instruments and tribal huts showcasing the regalia of different Ugandan tribes such as Baganda, Batooro, Basonga, Bahima, and Bakiga.
East Africa's oldest museum - founded in 1908 and a great place to have a look and feel of the culture and heritage of Ugandans. I loved walking around and taking my time given I was alone and I found it quite interesting....there's so much in this museum. I would definitely recommend.

From old presidents cars, different rocks to cultural regalia and attire, this place is history galore. You will find the old guns, boats, independence day recordings and speeches, and has gardens to seat with friends and have a chat. I think entrance was 5000ugx. Good destination for tourists. Oh, and Eddy Kenzo's BET music award is here along with his other awards.

Had a great experience of Uganda 🇺🇬 history and treasures. Had a tour with our fabulous👌 and Knowledgeable tour guide called Trinity. She was so Knowledgeable, enthusiastic and appeared to have all the time for us. Highly recommended to have one to get most out of your visit. Please visit and discover Uganda 🇺🇬

I’m frankly disappointed. Was expecting a lot more from a national museum. There is a lot of info that’s basically just textbook knowledge on how oil and gas are produced, how plants pollinate, and random Olympics posters which all have questionable relevance to Uganda.
J Y — Google review
Had a great time at the museum during the East Africa Scouts Zonal Educational Camp tour 2023, no waiting. I experienced the rich Ugandan culture, had a chance to witness the Ugandan stone age, photo gallery and had a chance to see some machines used by His Excellency the President of Uganda. Visit Uganda Museum.

The museum is closed to the public because its under renovation.

I expected more from the Capital city of Uganda and the greatest historical museum in Western Africa… Few outdated, dusty exhibits, which similar ones you can find in every geological museum in Europe… I’m disappointed… The ticket for white tourists cost *3 more, then for locals… I was with my local friend: she paid 5000 Ugandan shillings, but I paid 15000…

This place needs a lot of investment! Uganda history must be very rich but unfortunately it was not presented quite well.. Some of the rooms were not well lit, information was cramped on multiple A4 pages which was to small to read. However, I really like the uganda primates/big apes part which had an audio visual room and good combination of pictures, apes skeleton, and up to date research findings. Bravo for that section!

Bahá'í house of worship
Sights & Landmarks
The Baha'i House of Worship in Kampala is not just a place of worship, but also offers guided tours to provide an understanding of the Bahai faith. It's a peaceful and culturally enriching attraction with beautiful gardens and a well-built temple on a hill. Visitors can enjoy the serene atmosphere, lush landscapes, and Sunday prayers that integrate different religions.
Baha’i House of Worship in Kampala, Uganda: Bahai temple is located about 4 miles from the main city center of Kampala, on Kikaya hill along Gayaza road. It is famously known for being a spiritual home for the Bahai Faith in Uganda. The three core assertions of the Bahai Faith, sometimes termed the "three onenesses" are central in the teachings of the religion. They are the Oneness of God, Oneness of Religion and the Oneness of Humanity, which sounds true. The temple is up on top of a hill, and a road leads up to it. It is a place of tranquility where you can sit on benches outside, or under a tree to relax. Everyone is welcome there, no matter your religion is. Inside also have benches for people to pray and relax. It houses a max of 800 people. They do have services in Sundays. Pictures are not allowed inside. A guide is usually assigned to you to explain the Bahai Religion and general questions about the temple and its history.

Baha’i House of worship a very nice place to be at, its a very quiet silent place which enables everyone in the area to focus on themselves. The place is also good for prayers, meditation, readin’ novels among others

Beautiful house worship, on top of a hill, with a magnificent garden. A place of quiet and peace worth a detour, even if you are not of Baha'i faith. Which you probably aren't.

Very beautiful and serene area. The garden surrounding the temple is very well maintained and there are some stunning views of Kampala. Unfortunately the inside of the building was being renovated when I visited.

Mysterious Sites
Kasubi Tombs, situated on Kasubi Hill just five kilometers from Kampala city center, is the final resting place of four Kabakas and other members of the Baganda royal family. The site is easily accessible, only a 15-minute drive from the heart of Kampala along the Kampala-Hoima Road.
The Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offer a profound glimpse into the cultural and spiritual heart of the Buganda Kingdom. The architecture is a remarkable example of traditional building techniques, utilizing natural materials to create a unique and awe-inspiring structure. The intricate craftsmanship and the historical significance of the site make it a must-visit location for anyone interested in Ugandan heritage. The tombs house the remains of four Kabakas (kings) of Buganda, underscoring their enduring legacy. The visit provides a solemn opportunity to reflect on the rich history and traditions that have shaped the region. Preserving such sites is vital for future generations to understand and appreciate their cultural roots. It's a captivating destination, filled with stories and a tangible connection to the past. Therefore, a visit is a highly recommended experience. Steven Musoke

The Kasubi Tombs are a truly unique and essential place to visit in Uganda. While the entry fee for foreigners is high, it's a small price to pay for the opportunity to see a site unlike any other in the world. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its historical and cultural significance is immense. What makes the visit even more worthwhile is the incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Our guide was excellent, patient, and truly passionate about explaining the history and significance of the site. Their warmth and hospitality make the experience so much richer. Despite the cost, I highly recommend visiting the Kasubi Tombs. It's a humbling and educational experience that you won't find anywhere else.

The Kasubi Tombs in Kampala are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the burial place of the kings of Buganda. They hold a special place in Ganda culture, symbolizing spirituality, tradition, and continuity. The main structure, built mainly from wood, reeds, and thatch, is a striking example of traditional Ganda architecture. Unfortunately, a major fire in 2010 destroyed much of the site. Since then, UNESCO and the Buganda Kingdom have been working on restoring it while keeping its authenticity intact. That said, my visit felt a bit anticlimactic. The site has so much potential, but there isn’t much to see or do at the moment. Access is limited to a small area, and it would have been amazing to walk more freely around the grounds to really feel the history and age of the place.

Buildings intricately made and maintained It is just the history behind this narrated to us by Joel which I found deeply interesting. The Buganda people are maintaining their history

It's 20 USD to get in or 74000 UGX. Payable by card. Make sure you tell them to charge in USD since $20 is less than 74000 UGX. You have to get a guide. Make sure you agree on how much to give him before you start your tour. They always start at 50000, which is silly.

What a rich history and culture. You can see and feel the pride of the Baganda people! The guides are well informed and very engaging.
