Gateway Mall

Shopping mall
Shopping
Situated conveniently on Airport North Road in Syokimau, Gateway Mall offers a comprehensive range of services and amenities for residents and travelers in the area. This all-in-one shopping destination is ideal for stocking up on household essentials, with a wide variety of businesses available under one roof, including a supermarket, clothing stores, salon, electronics shop, restaurant, and bank. The mall boasts ample parking facilities but it is advisable to visit during the day to ensure availability as traffic increases in the evenings.
It is just a long the Mombasa- Nairobi highway. Thus, really accessible with ample parking and taxi hailing services available. It is a one stop shop. Loved the Naivas place and it's attendance
Boyd ( — Google review
Great mall although it has limited shops and few eating places but overall experience it's okay especially if you are going to do grocery shopping at Naivas, this is the place to go.
Cherryhappy M — Google review
Gateway Mall is always quite an experience for me, especially for the bowling at Strikez Bowling and the cocktails they serve. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, which I wouldn’t recommend due to the long lines and the staff’s less-than-friendly demeanor—likely a result of being overwhelmed by the crowd. Unfortunately, the cocktails were a bit watered down this time. Despite that, I love Gateway Mall for its variety of attractions. We enjoyed some window shopping and grabbed a quick meal at KFC before indulging in ice cream at Creamy Inn. Overall, Gateway Mall will always be my go-to spot when I want to bowl!
Malkia D — Google review
It's perfectly situated making it easy for people to drop by and shop. Paid parking space. This mall has everything under one roof, from the AAR hospital to the grocery stores etc.
Mary G — Google review
It's a cool small shopping mall. Has a nice restaurant, big supermarket, beauty spas and other convenience stores. Has got just enough paid parking. Good road access.
Henry K — Google review
If you live in the Syokimau, mlolongo area, then this mall is conveniently located. I found this mall to be dated and lacking the mall vibe. There isn't a lot to do in terms of entertainment or shopping . You are either getting your shopping at Naivas, buying shoes in BATA or maybe going to the bank or ATM for the most part. There aren't many eateries and the food court is quite small. There are a few independent shops but none of the big ones. Unless there is something in particular bringing you here, it isn't the kind of mall that you go to window shop and discover new cafés and such.
Soni — Google review
It's a lovely mall and the parking is spacious with over 40 businesses in the building

Machakos Peoples Park

City park
Nature & Parks
Parks
Went on a Sunday afternoon. Arrived at around 3.30pm. WHAT I LOVED: *Plenty of parking space. *Entrance is free (otherwise, entrance fee is only applicable for 10 & above groups of people). *Very green, beautiful and serene. Cool place to relax and unwind. *Love the water fountain, huge peacock structures and giant tires. *Love corner swings are super cute and comfortable. *Walkways are paved so walking and riding bikes around the park is easy. WHAT I HATED *The parking lot outside the park is very poorly maintained. It doesn't look swept, neat or inviting. There's even grass growing over the cabro stones which makes it look very dirty and untidy. (I mean, this is the first thing a visitor sees so first impressions should matter. Clean it up and maintain it properly) WHAT YOU WILL FIND: *Zip Lining *Skating *Bouncing Castles *Target Shooting *Restaurant *Snack Vendor (sweets/soda/biscuits)
Mercy N — Google review
Very affordable activities like archery, inflatable pool, trampoline, bouncy castles, maze, merry go rounds, a horse, a camel and ziplining. Snacks aren't overpriced from local vendors and food is well portioned, fresh, with good variety offered at restaurant #2. Best of all, free entry and public transport is available. Scenic views for capturing great photographic moments. Safe for young children and pets, with enough clean public toilets. Great for picnics as food from outside is allowed.
Arr E — Google review
Good recreational place where you can relax, refresh and rejuvenate! Dr. Alfred Mutua did wonderful job but of late "Yaliyondwele Sipite" has lost touch with the condition of park because it's very very poorly maintained. The grass is rarely cut in the fields, the walkways pavements are worn-out with grass grown all over the place etc etc. Can Machakos people call for mass action so that the park is returned to its former glory? I leave it to you watu wa Masaku!
Felix O — Google review
It is a place with variety of activities;Horse riding, bike, cyclingand also Mary go round and bouncing caso for kids and many more activities, the park is suitable for all age groups.its also a best place for couples, also with a big convection hall and events ground 😍🥳🤍a place to be
Alex L — Google review
Thursday might not be the best day to visit. Nothing going on. Place looks derelict. Misleading information online about opening hours. Transport to and from the park to town is non-existent. Otherwise it is serene and has scenic views.
Elizabeth A — Google review
The place is good for a family get a way. There is a lot of attractions for the kids and a good relaxing ambience for adults. There are 2 restaurants, one none alcoholic and the second with a bar. The food is affordable but the portions are small. Very good views. Carry your own tissue because the toilets have no tissue or running water. Entrance is free. They have bicycles for hire, zip lining, merry go round a and remote cars for kids.
Mwadime M — Google review
A great way to spend a day with the family. This park consists of a wide variety of activities like Zip lining, boat rides, archery, a maze, quad bike rides for kids, horse ride etc It caters to the needs of every age group. The prices of rides are very affordable. Suggest the property can be maintained a bit more in order to attract the tourists and drastically improve the toilet facilities as it was horrible with no water! A special mention to the Archery guy who was very polite, kind and patient with us while explaining how to take a shot. Overall a good experience.

Amazing temple. Very serene environment. All are welcome. Breakfast Lunch Dinner is served. Rule: No food to be wasted, thus take only that you can eat. A must stop on the Mombasa Nairobi Highway.

5 star. The same selfless service that has withstood the test of time and recently upgraded to improve our experience of it. Kids play area, accommodation etc etc. Every penny donated here definitely goes to the well deserved.

A very serene and calming place. Kirtan & Ardas were very good and finally the langar was a tasteful blessing. A very well maintained religious place for peace and calm of the mind
KC J — Google review
Totally loved it. A Super friendly place with welcoming people and a serene ambiance to the place. We stopped by for a break on the Mombasa road, ended up taking a full vegetarian Sikh breakfast. The only condition was that you respect the place for a holy Temple that it is and cover your head with a freshly laundered scarf during breakfast, which they provide free of charge to all and any traveller stopping by for some rest and a break on a long drive. Incidentally, they serve food throughout the day and they even have a hotel class rest house that too is free to travellers for a short break. Donations are accepted and the box is definitely descrete and not in your face. What wonderful people. Definitely a place to stop by or even just visit for the serenity and the peaceful ambiance and undemanding friendliness that reminds one of such few pockets of Goodness and human Charity that still exist amidst today's changed World that sometimes feels like one is living in an alternate Universe.

Salt Lick Safari Lodge

Lodge
Nature & Parks
Nestled in a serene location, Salt Lick Safari Lodge offers a unique experience with its humble yet charming rooms elevated on stilts. Guests are treated to breathtaking views and the thrill of wildlife right at their doorstep, including elephants that greet you upon arrival. The lodge features a casual restaurant, bar, and spa for relaxation after an adventurous day. Visitors rave about the attentive staff who provide exceptional service from the moment you arrive, ensuring your stay is comfortable and enjoyable.
An amazing stay!! Timely communication even before arrival, the reception was great with incredibly friendly and attentive staff. The property is sparkling clean. The location is breathtaking with stunning views we got to see animals especially elephants right from the lodge😃, in addition we had 2 amazing game drives. The pool is also strategically placed overlooking the game reserve. There was also a wide variety of food and I loved the pasta most. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for luxury, peaceful getaway with a touch of adventure😊
Boke M — Google review
A French couple for one night in November 2025. A truly unique stay, right above the animals absolutely amazing. There’s a waterhole just below the lodge that regularly attracts zebras, elephants, wildebeests, and gazelles. You get a front-row view of the savannah, with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. The lodge itself is perfectly decent, though the Wi-Fi is a bit weak and you might hear people walking by in front. The buffet is fantastic, large, varied, and delicious. For my fellow Muslim travelers, the meat is halal and certified. There’s a large, attentive team of staff and they’re all genuinely kind. This was the final stop on our 4-safari journey, and it made for a truly spectacular ending. Thank you to the whole team for such a warm and memorable welcome.

Incredible place on all levels - views, national park, hotel facilities and most importantly the staff. We booked with Somak Travel and had a driver and guide Mohamed (Bin Jey) touring round Taita Hills with us - he was incredible and we would HIGHLY recommend booking to tour with him. He ensured animals were well respected at all times and his passion for the job was admirable. Thank you Mohamed! We were made to feel so special on our honeymoon by the dining team, particularly Geoffrey, who gathered the team together to sing Jambo Bwana to us and deliver a congratulatory cake! He and the team also secretly delivered some treats with more congratulatory messages to our room! We appreciated all staff and on our last morning Geoffrey and Joash had saved the best table in the house for us to have our final breakfast with the perfect view of the watering hole.
Emily E — Google review
We absolutely loved our stay at Salt Lick Safari Lodge in Taita Hills. It truly is a one-of-a-kind experience, right in the middle of nature with breathtaking views in every direction. The entire lodge is built around a large waterhole, and from morning to night, every kind of animal comes to drink there — elephants, buffalo, antelopes, and many more. You don’t even need to leave your room to feel like you’re on safari. One of the highlights was the underground tunnel leading to the waterhole, where you get very close and exclusive views of the animals. At night, an elephant came so near that he rubbed his back against the structure — a moment we’ll never forget! The sunrise was absolutely spectacular, unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Watching the first light of day spreading across the savannah while animals gathered at the waterhole was magical. The lodge itself is beautifully designed, built on stilts, and blends perfectly into its natural surroundings. The staff were warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was also very good, with a nice variety of local and international dishes. Overall, Salt Lick is not just a place to stay — it’s a unique safari experience. If you want to feel completely immersed in the African wilderness, with comfort, safety, and unforgettable wildlife encounters right outside your window, we can highly recommend it.

What a wonderful lodge. Did not know what to expect and was blown away by the experience. Great service from pick-up and drop-off at Voi train station, to the food and all the welcoming staff. The morning safari was amazing. The amount of animals we saw in just the first hour was crazy. You won't find a better wildlife watching experience. Up close and personal at the watering hole. Would come back in a heartbeat. Asante sana
Matt S — Google review
Absolutely majestic. The elephants literally greeted us upon arrival. The safari is amazing but the animals also come to you at the lodge. Every single staff member that we interacted with was pleasant and informative. The chef asked for feedback graciously. The only addition I personally would have enjoyed would be greek yogurt for the breakfast but I didn’t see that anywhere in Kenya. The water is hot and plentiful. The food is delicious. The views are absolutely stunning. The bed is like a cozy cloud and we slept so good here as well. Thank you Salt Lick for an unforgettable experience we will treasure forever.
Mary H — Google review
WOW..this place takes your breathe away! Super close viewing of the animals via an upper veranda or access to a tunnel, to come up close & personal with a Watering hole. Rooms are basic but very comfy, but who wants to stay in the rooms!! Has a resteraunt which looks out onto the Watering holes, amazing views. Food was exceptional, even cater for dietary needs very well. A must place to go once in your life 👍
ANGIE W — Google review
Had a lovely stay at Salt Lick. Location is stunning, within Taita Hills sanctuary. Mind the 40 USD extra p.p. for entrance, not included in the accomodation. Lodge should keep the maintenance of the rooms in mind, because it looks a bit worn. All other things were perfect (staff, restaurant, bar, ...)

National Museums of Kenya-Rabai Museum

Museum
Specialty Museums
Now,I visited this place and to my surprise the museum is very very very small despite the rich history behind Rabai, ranging from the home of first missionary school and church. The road off Kaloleni Mazeras towards the place is in good condition however, more needs to be done as far as infrastructure of this historical rich place is concerned. A proper fencing should be done to this place, buildings and the cemetery should be renovated as well otherwise they will be consumed by nature with time. Otherwise staffs are very friendly and welcoming. Locals are well-behaved.
Okomo J — Google review
This is probably the smallest museum in terms of surface area. It however teems with history including the first formal school in East Africa that was build by Church Missionary Society. Also, there is plenty of history of the Rabai documented here including the first translation of the Christian Bible into Swahili and other local dialects. I also loved the pottery work done by the Rabai people. The staff is jovial and helpful.

If you need peace and a place to pray at, or maybe hold a Bible study go here. I promise you from my own experience it's the best ❤️

Nguuni Nature Sanctuary

Mentioned on
21 lists
Wildlife park
Nature & Parks
Nguuni Nature Sanctuary is a vast wildlife preserve just a short drive from Bamburi. It's home to giraffes, ostriches, waterbucks, and various bird species. Visitors can enjoy picnics and guided tours while taking in the beautiful African wildlife. The sanctuary offers the opportunity to relax by a campfire with a cold drink as you watch the sunset amidst the bush.
What an experience to walk among giraffes and see how tall they actually are, to pick up tortoises who are too slow to run away from you and have no choice, and to get bitten by an ostrich. It is a way to spend the weekend, bring your picnic basket and favourite Afrobeats tunes. It's like a party in there. The staff was super nice and knowledgable about the animals. Just take in mind that it's not a zoo, the animals will roam right next to you, but that doesn't mean you should be chasing them around. That's not going to end well, obviously. Just a heads up if you're getting dropped off in the entrance, you still need to walk about 1km in. But it is a nice scenic walk to get to the animals.
Kit T — Google review
My partner and I just finished an amazing guided birdwatching tour this morning! We booked it pretty late the day prior, but they were incredibly accommodating. Our guide Omar was so knowledgeable about all the birds in the area, and had eyes like a hawk that spotted even the smallest of birds. He was fantastic, and I wish we had more time in the area to come back again! I didn’t take many photos since I only had my phone camera, but do suggest bringing a set of binoculars!
Elizabeth O — Google review
I had such an amazing experience at this Nguuni late last year. The place provided a serene environment to unwind, picnic and also share an intimate experience with the wild. The place is far from the main gate so i recommend using personal vehicle for easy accessibility or also you can always use local tuktuks.
Tashanel L — Google review
The sanctuary is a great spot for a picnic, games, or just relaxing. The roads are a bit rough, so it’s best to plan ahead for a car or tuk-tuk. It was amazing to see giraffes and ostriches up close. This is a wonderful place to visit, as long as animal safety measures are properly observed. I hope the sanctuary takes steps to ensure the protection of these animals.
Hellen B — Google review
Oh wow. Hidden gem of a place. 1000 shillings for foreigners and 400 for residents. Maybe a 20 minute walk to the picnic/viewing area with shaded huts to sit and watch. At first it was about 5 oryx antelopes that wandered out. Then the two guides got the herd of giraffes to appear. They were all very tame and comfortable eating around the viewing area. So many amazing photos. The giraffes have free range but the park is a few km wide so be patient with the guides as they round up the giraffes. 2 thumbs up!
GB — Google review
Amazing hidden gem in Mombasa! Walk with the giraffe and have a picnic with them! Buy your tickets directly from the Sanctuary in advance! Ask your driver to take you onto the Sanctuary to View Point. Arrange for a guide to meet you there. Our guide - Omar was amazing. So patient, friendly, knowledgeable and very considerate and caring. We had to walk through mud up to the view point and our trainers were ruined but we had much fun on the walk. Slipping and sliding everywhere! It was worth every moment - once you see the tortoise and giraffes. This was truly a perfect ending to our time in Kenya and after seeing giraffes around Kenya, feeding giraffes at Nairobi National Park - this was the ultimate - up close and personal.
D.M — Google review
If you fancy being in close proximity to giraffes, ostriches and gemsboks without the presence of a barricade, then this is the place for you. Carry your own meals and have a picnic by the giraffes or at the sundowner site. Having a personal vehicle for commute through the sanctuary is advised due to the distance from the entrance to where the animals are. Outstanding views are nonetheless promised as you take that drive to the animals and rid yourself of the fear of these beautiful creatures; only then will you truly enjoy your experience. In summary, a beautiful picnic spot that is lacking in your bucket list🫵🏾 ~22 Aug 2023~

Pembe Za Ndovu - Mombasa

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Pembe Za Ndovu, also known as Elephant Tusks, is a famous landmark in Mombasa. These giant aluminum tusks along Moi Avenue were built to commemorate a visit by Princess Margaret and are a must-visit destination in the city. Originally made of wood, they have been rebuilt out of aluminum in the shape of an M for Mombasa.
Pembe Za Ndovu is an iconic landmark that truly represents the vibrant culture and history of Mombasa. I visited over the weekend, and I didn't have to wait to access the area, which was a great start! The atmosphere is lively, and the site offers incredible photo opportunities. The towering tusks are not just a visual marvel but also a reminder of Mombasa's deep ties to trade and tourism. What stood out to me was how clean and well-maintained the area is despite the heavy foot traffic. However, parking nearby can be a bit tricky during busy hours, so plan accordingly. Overall, this is a must-visit spot if you're in Mombasa. Whether you're a tourist or a local, Pembe Za Ndovu is worth your time for its cultural significance and stunning presence.

Most iconic place in Mombasa. It always gives you the vibe whenever you see them. With the current renovation, they look amazing. When in Mombasa, take a picture here and have one of the most memorable places in Kenya. They were built in 1950 to honour the visit of the British Royal Family. There is ample parking and professional photographers on site.

I find it creepy standing in the CBD to take pictures but at this spot no one is even minding your business & you can have as many pictures as you want. It was a beautiful thing to experience. Fun fact it's located in the Island part of Mombasa.

Mombasa's Pembe za Ndovu are popular because they are a prominent, easily accessible landmark symbolizing the city's rich history, connection to wildlife, and unique identity. The tusks were first built in 1952 to commemorate the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Mombasa, making them an important historical symbol of the city's past. Pembe za Ndovu offer visitors incredible photo opportunities, a lively atmosphere with local vendors, and a convenient starting point for exploring other attractions like Fort Jesus and the historic Mombasa Old Town.

Pembe Za Ndovu, the iconic man-made elephant tusks standing proudly along Moi Avenue in Mombasa, is a marvel deserving of its five-star rating. These majestic tusks, symbolizing the city's rich cultural heritage, captivate the eyes of both locals and tourists alike. The meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail are awe-inspiring, creating a picturesque gateway to Mombasa's heart. As cars gracefully pass beneath these tusks on both lanes, a sense of grandeur and history envelops the atmosphere. Beyond being architectural marvels, they serve as a testament to the city's elegance and charm. Pembe Za Ndovu stands as an enduring symbol, welcoming visitors with open arms, making it a must-see destination and a true five-star wonder.

One of the oldest churches in Kenya. A rich history, great architecture that lends special acoustics for a nice Anglican Sunday Worship. Always give me the excitement when the organ thunders in unison with Sunday worship.

Amazing, loving, joyous, and spiritual congregation. Their church building shows Ancient Arabian Architectural design a reflection of the contact with the Arabian who were early settlers. Their bishop and other members of the clergy are anointed, vibrant, compassionate, and hospitable.

The service was great! There's ample parking,.. I know how kids can be at times when they are hungry, "mum/dad i want this.. 🤫🤨" not to worry_there's tea and snacks are served served by the church, youth church service.. Am sorry but i don't seem to remember whether there was a small kids play ground..

Beautiful historic architectural design, recently renovated. Located in a tranquil environment along the Nkrumah Road. Ideal for spending time if one is searching for spiritual nourishment and inner peace. The huge baobab tree at the entrance is as magnificent as the church itself... if only it could speak, it would have been great to hear what it has seen for the centuries that it has stood there, watching generations pass but always providing us with the baobab fruit.

Its worth to visit this historical building in the heart of Monbasa on your way down to Fort Jesus. Its a very quiet and cool place (inside the church) full of history. Many memorial plaques tell stories about missionaries, soldiers and other well known people. Since several months you have to pass a security check but the staff is fast and friendly. I enjoyed the visit so much!

A must-visit gem in Mombasa—stunning architecture, engaging exhibits, and captivating storytelling across centuries. Ideal for history buffs, culture seekers, families, or anyone looking to dive deep into coastal Kenya’s heritage. Just plan ahead, pace your visit, and enjoy a stroll through living history.

A must-visit historical landmark in Mombasa! Fort Jesus is one of those places that truly makes history come alive. Walking through its ancient corridors, stone walls, and passages gives you a real sense of what coastal life and trade looked like centuries ago. The cannons, architecture, and carvings have been remarkably preserved, and the ocean views from the upper sections are simply stunning — especially at sunset. I highly recommend taking a guided tour; the guides are very knowledgeable and share detailed stories about the Portuguese, Omani, and British periods, as well as the role Fort Jesus played in protecting Mombasa’s harbor. The Passage of the Arches and the wall engravings were among my favorite spots. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a reason — full of culture, heritage, and insight into Kenya’s coastal history. Definitely worth a visit for both locals and tourists.

Its not such a big thing everybody makes it out to be...the old way of agriculture and history were interesting. If you go, let a tour guide take you but just keep in mind that he needs to get paid afterwards...set payment rate before he takes you. He arranges Entrance fee and also takes you to elephant tusks and old town.(reason I add those photos as well)

Your experience will depend on your guide. You’ll have a West African vibe, but a different story. The fight that went on here with Oman, British and Portuguese is just thrilling. Try to read a bit about the history before you come.

The Mombasa Butterfly House is a remarkable destination for both children and adults to explore the enchanting world of butterflies. Located in close proximity to Fort Jesus, this live butterfly exhibit provides an educational experience that showcases the fascinating life cycle of these creatures. The sanctuary offers a practical explanation of insect development and serves as an ideal place for learning about conservation efforts. With its well-maintained facilities, affordable admission fees, and beautiful butterfly displays, this destination is truly magnificent.
Had an amazing experience here. My guide Susan did a good job explaining how butterflies have a span of 4 weeks and their life stages from egg, larva, pupa then adult. The butterflies there, are not so many, about 10 of them and they ensure their environment is clean and that they cannot fly outside, hence the heavy net. They feed on nectar mostly from plants and flowers and there is one type of butterfly that cannot feed on those plants so they feed on rotten juice e.g orange juice. Entrance fees in the photos.
Nicole J — Google review
I took the very informative tour and it lasted for maybe 25 minutes. They’re definitely isn’t a lot of butterflies because they only live for a few weeks. And the organization is having a hard time getting farmers to give the foundation the cocoons. Farmers would rather sell the cocoons and make money. If you do go inside, be sure you bring mosquito repellent. I was eaten alive.

Indeed butterflies are self-propelled flowers, and in the cool wafting breeze of the pristine ocean breeze, adjacent to the Fort Jesus, is a home to tropical butterflies’. Mombasa Butterfly house holds innumerable butterflies of their magnificent kind. Their easy sweeps in the space and their majestic perches inspire a sense of tenderness, and strong will to live. It is at the butterfly house I penned this verse. I write of hearts, souls, life and essence Grandiose, majesty and quintessence Butterflies and life changes Metamorphosis and second chances I write for dreamers Those out of cocoon, the weavers Those of flaming dreams, mediocrity hate Who struggle and don't blame fate Who break chains to live Those who forgive And find in all things the goodness it brings Who have given their audacity wings Those who believe can fly like a butterfly.

It was originally an inspiration project in 1971 and has since been transformed into a wildlife park by Dr. Haller.
Great park. You can feed the giraffe, the monkeys, watch the Hippo and alligator feeding and let a 100 year old tortoise. Go at 2-3 pm so you can feed the giraffe and watch the other feeding.

It's really an insightful visit. Especially with the guides who take the tour groups and give detailed narration about the facility and how the animals got placed there. Fun fact I didn't know crocodiles can stay without eating for 3 months. Best part of the tour is the viewing the feeding of the crocodile, hippos and giraffes. This usually takes place from 3pm-4.30pm.

Mid Aug 25. 2200 ksh and passed by only kid ticket? Entrance was being torn down and ticketing was by guy under the tree with table. No map or brochure about it at all. Expecting better for the price, as it was almost 10 times what locals pays. And the most interesting was the blueballs monkeys and not even the animals were supposed to be.
Nazib ( — Google review
Its a nature walk experience. Kinda like a zoo but the some animals are free to move around. It has a strict schedule if you want to enjoy the whole experience. Thats following the feeding times. You feed the giraffes. But the hippos and crocodiles are fed so you get to see them out of the water. The park also closses early so you need to plan your time well.

Home of nature. Get there At 11AM for giraffe feeding and also at 4PM for Crocodile, Snakes and Hippos feeding. You will be awed by the beauty.

It is an interesting place to visit. I enjoyed watching the giraffe feed, tortoise walking on the grass and the huge crocodiles skimming on their cages pools. "Explore. Dive. Discover. With the Best – Tropical Diving Centre, Where Every Dive is an Adventure!" I recently had the pleasure of diving with Tropical Diving Centre in Bamburi, Mombasa, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I contacted them, their helpfulness and warmth made me feel at ease. As a PADI Level One diver, I've explored various underwater wonders, but nothing prepared me for the sheer beauty I encountered during my dives with Tropical Diving Centre. My first dive took me to the Coral Garden, and wow, what a sight to behold! There were over 30 different species of marine life, each more captivating than the last. Among them, the most extraordinary was the elusive crocodile fish. Its camouflage and unique appearance left me in awe. It's a shame I didn't have my GoPro to capture the abundance of sea life surrounding me. The adventure didn't end there. My second dive was an exploration of the giant lobsters hiding beneath the colossal corals. Guided by an exceptional dive master and his team, I felt safe and welcomed throughout the entire experience. Despite being from Mauritius, another oceanic paradise, I was unsure of what to expect. However, my time with Tropical Diving Centre turned out to be the highlight of all my dives thus far. In conclusion, if you're looking for an unforgettable diving experience in Mombasa, look no further than Tropical Diving Centre. Their professionalism, warmth, and the stunning underwater world they help you explore will leave you with memories to cherish for a lifetime.
Anju H — Google review
After reading the reviews we had high expectations of the diving school. They were a bit disappointing. The crew did their best, given the possibilities. Some disadvantages: Only two dives in the morning due to the tide. Small rinsing possibilities for your st equipment and no box for your stuff to store. Own bag is wet in this way. 1 Dive about 50 euros + 13 euros tax every day for marine park. Own equipment so we can not say anything about theirs. The crew was great and did a great job. Julius was an excellent diving guide. Diving similar to Egypt only more fish and bigger. Four stars for the crew, but in totality I come no further than 3 stars. Total of 6 dives and that was enough. Maybe we are too spoiled.

Such a Unique Experience 🤍🤍 Visiting Mamba Village was a very nice and memorable experience. The crocodile area felt like stepping into a completely different and beautiful world. It was both exciting and peaceful at the same time. The staff were incredibly friendly and kind, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The experience was good. It is a one time experience kind of thing. You wouldn't want to visit again. Most of the crocodiles are in hibernation mode so they barely move. I would recommend you to ask ahead of time and visit during feeding time. They do have snakes too and you do get to hold a 2yr old small crocodile. The pathway is accessible to elder people too and there is a seating space once you reach the enclosure compound.

Loved. Loved. Totally loved this experience! Our guide was not only very friendly, but she also discussed so many facts and interesting new learnings about crocodiles and the other repriles they had, with me and my kids as well. It was lovely to watch my children's interest grow, and even after 1.5 hours, they still wanted to learn. I totally recommend Mamba Village. Only caveat is that the structures are old and not so well maintained but this does not take away from the learning experience.

Plenty of crocodiles to see and a few snakes. Would recommend a visit if you have kids. 350 ksh per adult resident rate. Payment by card or M pesaro only - no option to pay by cash. Child buggy cannot be taken on trail as it is uneven and bumpy. Cafe available on site for hard and soft drinks. Staff and guide were friendly and helpful Takes about 30-40 minutes to do a round visit. Good experience overall. There is Opportunity to touch or carry a baby Croc and the snakes if you like. In terms of feedback- the snake area needs to be updated and better maintained Containers were dirty. Phone Numbers on Google were not working suggest an update be made.

Very nice hotel. It's 3 stars hotel but have definitely enough potential to get more. Appreciate a great African food served here. The service and personel is just perfect. People are smiling, you can hear 'how are you' from everyone. They're very helpful. Everything is so clear. The people makes that hotel exceptional. Of course, when you go out of hotel, you will surrounded by the beach boys offering many things. It's worth to look at the excursion offers by the guy with badges, uniforms. If you go outside the hotel through main gate, on the rights side you can see women's offering massage. They're working hard, the massage is just great. Ask for Violet or Mona Lisa. It was great time.

Overall, Nyali Center is the pride of Mombasa—a mall that perfectly combines modern shopping convenience with a touch of natural beauty. Whether you’re shopping for essentials, hanging out with friends, dining with family, or simply looking to enjoy a serene and clean environment, Nyali Center has it all.

Cool complex with a chill froyo spot, handy Naivas, convenient banks, cute jewelry stores, and relaxed clubs. Overall, it's a solid place with a little bit of everything. It's not over-the-top fancy, but it's comfortable, convenient, and has a good vibe. Definitely worth a visit when you're looking for an easy day out or a casual night. 👍🛍️🎶 👌🛒💎🍦

Very convenient. Made my stay at Nyali beach holiday resort. I could just get a cab from the resort and come here to shop, especially for alcohol lol. Cool place honestly and you'll get almost everything you need. Got some nice shorts from LC Waikiki
Maloba K — Google review
The Mall is strategically located on Mombasa-Malindi Road. It has ample parking and walking spaces. Present here are famous clothing stores such as LC Waikiki, Woolworths, Mango among others. Carrefour supermarket is also present.

Nyali centre is a place you are likely to visit and finish all your errands without thinking of going to other places. There are several banks within, clubs, fastfood joints. There is also the supermarket and other world brands offering a myriad of products and services. The most amazing thing out of it all, is the ample parking space making it more convenient for everyone.
Frankline M — Google review
Has alot of shops around, Twinco Wines, Fineco, Unique Furniture, Planet Yogurt, Naivas, Shak Attack, Big Donner, Java House, DTB Bank, Club Hypnotica and so much more. Alot of parking available and a safe area. However, I've always found this place a bit boring as it's not exactly like a mall, just a Complex..
Sidhra S — Google review
Beautiful mall. One stop destination if you’re doing some shopping.
Felouze R — Google review
All under one Roof. Proliferation of banks to the mall have made parking a nightmare. Please some of you banks move to Citymall. There is plenty of parking there.

Nyali Beach is a picturesque stretch of white sand that attracts visitors looking to swim, sunbathe, picnic, and unwind. It offers a serene escape close to the city with pristine water quality. The beach is popular during weekends, drawing families and friends seeking relaxation amidst palm trees and soft sands.
Great and thrilling place, but in the afternoons the tides rise too high, and the beach shores are covered by water, I recommend visiting in morning hours. Also the water is salty, avoid metallic wearables to prevent theme from coroding.
Maguku E — Google review
Quiet, clean, warm, beautiful. Local beach with few tourists. The sand is magnificent, brilliant white that doesn't get hot. The water was warm and the waves were perfect for all ages. Yeah there is a few sellers and camel owners at the beach, but they are not overly exhausting or unfriendly. Just be polite, say no and enjoy the Indian ocean by sunset. Magical.
ABU M — Google review
It's a good chill out space if you want to experience the sea breeze, the ocean view, see the speed boat riding and for swimming. However, it's overcrowded in holidays

A great beach, plenty of things to do..nice bars to sit, relax and watch the world go by.

The beach is just fine with coast guards and security personnel around so enjoying swimming and sports activities at the beach is safe. Restaurants at the place to are great offering the best seafoods sports equipment such as the speed boats and other stuffs. I recommend it.
Reagan M — Google review
Safe beach to relax, lifeguards are observant and local snacks available, camel or boat rides at fair prices. The beach needs a little clean up of washed up water plants
Peter M — Google review
It's very clean and less congested. One can enjoy themselves in the ocean. Walking around before the water begins to return back This is jetskis, dhow riding for deep sea fish expeditions at a cost.

Great experience, public beach with nice coconut trees. No need to go to hotel, it is accessible to everyone. Nest time is from 3 to 8, it is nice during the night. (Our experience was safe)

Sprawling marine national park & popular spot for wind surfing, water skiing, snorkeling & diving.
Awesome saw, beautiful fishes like the zebra fish etc. these you see while snorkeling or from the glass bottom on the boat. At the reef you see as you walk towards the open sea live clumps, star fishes, sea urchins , sea cucumbers, spider fish, baby corals, brain corals. Pics below for brain coral and live clump.

Awesome! Right in the middle of the ocean. Used a glass boat to enable us see the under sea flora and fauna. The guides are very well versed with marine biology and they go explaining all the happenings. Kudos to the Kenya Wildlife Service for protecting the marine park. There are very nice views of the beaches form the park. Definitely worth a visit.

Lots of coral & fishes protected by Kenyan Marine officals for tourists. Private boats are prohibited in this particualr area for roaming and fishing so one can enjoy the beauty of the sea. During low tide you can actually see the colourful fishes, reefs & corals. Must do snorkeling there.

Diani Beach is a stylish coastal resort area with crystal clear water and an abundance of palm trees and palapas. It is a popular destination for tourists seeking exotic, relaxing white sandy beaches lined with trendy eateries. Although the sea weed in some areas can be excessive during certain periods, there are parts of the sea that remain unaffected. The beach boasts fine-grained sand and provides an enjoyable experience to walk on during early mornings and late afternoons when temperatures are more pleasant.
White sand. Blue colors. Beautiful But: expect people trying to sell you things. And: it’s not the Mediterranean Sea. Swimming depends on tides, the wind and your confidence. But I love walking in the early morning. The shells are beautiful. It’s worth to spent some days here

Diani beach is a really nice place to vacation. So many activities take place here such as camel riding, kite surfing, swimming among others. The ocean is calm throughout the day but the tides get stronger in the evening hours making it not safe for any activities.

Long and big beach, there is always a place to enjoy the water at low tide. White visitors will be approached by solicitors (boat tours, jewelry) regularly.

What a spectacular beach, awesome authentic fun town and most of the people were very friendly and inviting. The Beach Boys can be very annoying especially when you just want to relax or go for a walk, but that challenging with having people approaching you and trying to constantly sell you things. The softest sand I have ever felt, beautiful beach and safe swimming area to enjoy.

Colobus Conservation

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Colobus Conservation is dedicated to protecting the Angolan black-and-white colobus monkey, a species now limited to just 5000 monkeys in isolated forest pockets south of Mombasa. The center offers tours of its headquarters where visitors can see orphaned or injured colobus, Sykes' and vervet monkeys undergoing rehabilitation for release into the wild. It's an excellent opportunity for kids to learn about conservation and primate preservation in Kwale County.
I was pleasantly surprised how nice this experience was based on other reviews. The tour guide was great, informative, and had a good humour. There were lots of monkeys to see but even if there weren't, it's still a really good price for the tour and goes towards a good place.
Kiera D — Google review
I like to support a good cause. This conservation centre is in Diani along beach road. They are mostly dedicated to the rescue of monkeys especially the Colobus monkey. I do appreciate that they rescue to release as opposed to keep. On arrival, you are ushered in, make your payments: KES250 for everyone above 12 years and KES 150 for below 12 for citizens. You then watch a short video on what and why they do what they do and then you have a brief tour of the place. We saw very few monkeys, a bush baby and that was about it. I didn't feel it was worth what we paid. Based on the other reviews, I thought there would be some trails, we would go to the nursery and it would be an hour or two experience but it was barely 30 minutes. The merchandise they were selling was also quite expensive according to me. In as much as I would like to support the conservation, I left the place feeling that I couldn't. They have installed the ladders all along beach road to aid the monkeys in moving around, but I didn't see any past beach road. I think(my opinion) talking to people especially the locals on how much it costs to install one and asking people to pay for one if they can is something worth looking into. Perhaps rope in the hotels and Airbnbs in spreading awareness. I would definitely support this than paying for a visit here which I felt was not worth it. There is also the question on gentrification and Conservation which as a Kenyan makes me feel overwhelmed and most time helpless. I am very 50/50 with this experience.
Susan A — Google review
A wonderful conservation set in a beautiful forest. A must go see when in Diani to learn about the wildlife and what we can do to preserve the forests and protect our natural world. It is a working conservation so a special place to visit.
Georgina H — Google review
Colobus Conservation is an amazing place and a must-visit! It’s a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting monkeys and much more. During our 1.5-hour visit, a guide from Colobus Conservation explained in detail how they work to preserve the population of colobus monkeys, how they rescue monkeys kept as pets, and slowly help them adapt to life back in the wild. We learned how they build special rope bridges so monkeys can safely cross roads, and how they collaborate with power companies to make electrical wires safer for them. The center also runs programs for school children and students, and even grows tree and bush seedlings to help nearby hotels restore the environment. We got to see the rare colobus monkeys up close and also learned about other species. The whole experience was incredibly educational and inspiring. The center itself and the people working there — the huge impact they are making — truly touched our hearts. It’s the kind of place you want to support and be a part of. After visiting, my husband and I decided to become regular donors to help their mission. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves animals. A huge thank you to everyone at Colobus Conservation — you are doing something so important and so good for this world. With all my heart, THANK YOU ❤️

I volunteered at Colobus conservation for just under a week. It was the most rewarding, ethical and life changing experience. All the employees at colobus were so friendly and welcoming- they made me feel at home and welcomed. Being a volunteer at colobus conservation, you really get to experience what it’s like to help a monkey in danger. Every day is a different day, and I learnt so much. I will definitely be volunteering again at Colobus conservation, and will stay for a longer period. If you’re thinking of volunteering at colobus, do it! It’s worth it!
Mariam A — Google review
We had a wonderful visit with Kevin, who guided us through the conservation center and shared so many interesting insights. We spent a long time searching for the monkeys together, which made the experience even more exciting. The team is doing an amazing job protecting the Colobus monkeys, and everyone we met was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended!
Damien G — Google review
I read on Google Maps that this is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Colobus monkeys, so I decided to visit the center to see how it works and possibly make a donation. I was greeted by a polite young woman who seated me in front of a TV and played a short video about the center’s activities. The video showed how they help monkeys cross roads safely by building special ladders and bridges. However, to be honest, I didn’t see any of those ladders anywhere around the area. The only one I found was inside the center itself — it looked brand new and was placed in a cage. After a short tour, I offered to make a donation. But then I was taken to a counter and shown a price list with fixed amounts. Even though Google describes this place as a non-profit organization, and at the beginning I was told that donations were voluntary, I was informed that I had to pay 1,000 shillings. I asked again, pointing out that a donation should be voluntary, but they told me that this was the required fee. I explained that I only had 500 shillings in cash and could pay by card, but they said they don’t accept cards. Then the staff insisted on going with me to an ATM so I could withdraw the remaining amount and pay in cash. In the end, I left 500 shillings, but no receipt was given to me. It seems that only a very small portion of the money actually goes to helping the monkeys. The whole experience felt more like a tourist money trap than a genuine non-profit conservation project. It’s a shame, because the idea of protecting monkeys is great — but the way this place operates raises serious doubts

We first met Mary at our hotel (Diamonds Leisure on Weds 24.9.25) whilst she was giving a passionate presentation on the colobus trust and the works of the organisation. This led us to our visit the following day where we met Mary again and she toured us around the trust site. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to and looking at the conservation work in Diani in protecting the beautiful colobus monkeys. We recommend booking a taxi from your hotel and paying the fee in cash on your arrival, this ensures the trust receive full payment to continue their works! Thank you Mary!

Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest is a special place for the Digo people and offers visitors a unique nature walk, historical journey, and cultural experience. The forest is open to visitors every day of the week, providing an opportunity to explore its tangled roots and ancient coral while learning about traditional medicine from knowledgeable guides. Visitors can also participate in a spiritual practice by hugging an ancient tree to release their fears and worries.
'Nature heals.' My visit to Kaya Kinondo gave me an opportunity to reconnect with nature in this case the forest. The nature trail offered an opportunity to learn and unwind (me hugging the tree). The traditional food was tasty and easily among the tastiest foods I've eaten and the people are friendly, you feel right at home. Let me not forget the traditional dance. So next time you are in Diani, drive down to Kaya Kinondo and have an experience in nature.

This was such an interesting and fun thing to do and one of our highlights at Diani! A very unique experience learning about the history of the area and the cultural significance of this forest. We had the best volunteer guide, Salim, who was articulate and very funny! Would definitely recommend making the journey here, no need to book.
RF — Google review
I recommend this tour combining learning about nature and the native people of the Coast AND discovering an ancient forest on coral rock with all senses on. The knowledge of the Digo people about plant species, tree burials and energy exchange is just being rediscovered. Call the phone number indicated on Google maps and reserve a tour slot. The fee for Kenyans is 500 KES, for residents 800 and for foreigners 1000. All the money goes into conservation efforts and supporting the Digo community. The entrance fee includes the tour guide. The last tour of the day is at 04pm because the tour guide closes the info house at 06pm and the forest is darker at dawn. There is a long tour (2h) to the freshwater spring and a shorter tour around the forest (1 - 1.5h), depending on how fit you are. Drive South on Diani Beach Road, past the paved road on the bumpy one, turn right after the sign for the forest comes and enter the parking spot. First, you will be introduced to the Digo culture and customs in the informational house because you cannot do certain things in the sacred forest and want to show respect while enjoying the tour. The tour is interactive and I encourage you to ask the guide lots of questions. I was amazed by the answers which showed vast ancient knowledge.

Short and nice tour/walk through the forest. It was low keyed place that is off the beaten track. We enjoyed the information shared by the tour guide. We took a tut tut from Diani beach there and asked the driver to come back for us after one hour. Make sure that you are armed with sufficient insect repellents.
