Island
Nature & Parks
Jazā'ir Jiftūn is an island in Egypt known for its nature preserve, white sand beaches, and luxurious accommodations. It's a great place for birdwatching and enjoying the calm waves and water sports. The island offers both public and private beaches, with spots like Orange Bay and Mahmya being particularly stunning. While some visitors found the beach disappointing due to sharp sand and limited amenities, others enjoyed the crystal-clear waters and beautiful sun.
Lovely lovely island with great white sandy beach and clear turquoise water. There are public and private beaches all of which are great. The private beaches like Orange Bay and Mahmya are simply marvelous and worth the money. There are also some nice snorkeling spots but not the spots the regular trips go to. The reefs in the shallow waters have been mostly ruined but still OK. The best thing is the boat trip, really love every moment faring over the red sea from Hurghada port to Giftun and back.

Good trip, helpful staff. Would not recommend dvd with photos of yourself as quality is very poor which you don't realise until you get home and they charge £25.

Fabulous island with its gorgeous scenes, the beach had a magical water, transparent and pure, this place is just for being calm and peace.

It's really differ from nearest Hurgada. Great beach that can be compared with Maldives. It's shallow and perfect for kids

Sights & Landmarks
In the heart of Hurghada's Old Town, El Dahar, visitors can explore narrow streets and vibrant shops. The area comes alive with a bustling bazaar where the Coptic Cathedral of Saint Shenouda stands modest on the outside but boasts stunning architecture inside. Nearby, Koshary El Tahrir offers a taste of Egypt with its traditional dish, koshary. Afterward, visitors can quench their thirst with cane juice at El Dahar Square.
Well worth a visit. Absolutely stunning in the evening sun. You can rent a special dress (as a woman) for the small amount of 1.-€ or 50.- LE to visit inside - the outside is much more beautiful though. Highly recommended when you are in Hurghada region.
N D — Google review
Beautiful mosque. Inside, it feels smaller than I expected. Because the square around it is so large, you automatically assume the mosque itself will also be huge. However, the interior looks beautiful and very well finished.
Jeffrey R — Google review
Nothing special - just a mosque. Free of charge. Probably cleanest place in whole city, except Marina street)
Alex S — Google review
LED lights on a Mosque? Really? The interior is not good, we have seen better places. You nesd to respect the rules and ladies have to wear (rent for 2€) a dress.
Michal D — Google review
Nice mosque. Take off your shoes and visit. Check praying times (no visits by tourists during praying service)
Jiri K — Google review
The only beautiful thing in this place. We didn't go inside but you can walk on the premises.
Anastasia ( — Google review
A small beautiful mosque illuminated at night. There is a part reserved for the non Muslim
Vincent C — Google review
Spending the evening in Hurghada was a perfect way to wind down. The city feels much calmer at night, with a nice mix of local charm and coastal beauty. I stopped by the Al Mina Mosque, which looked beautiful under the soft lights—its architecture really stood out in the quiet of the night. I also wandered through the Fishmarket, where the evening hustle added a bit of character. It’s not too busy, but there’s still a lively atmosphere, and you can watch the fresh seafood being brought in. The Marina at night was probably the most relaxing part. The boats were gently swaying, and the area was peaceful with cafes lining the waterfront. It was a great spot to enjoy the evening breeze and take in the view. A perfect, low-key way to enjoy Hurghada at night.

Marina Hurghada is a modern and stunning marina that comes alive in the evening, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the enchanting underwater world. It features an array of fantastic restaurants, bars, and shops. A visit during sunset promises a remarkable experience as you witness the sun setting into the Red Sea. The city of Hurghada is divided into three areas: El Dahar, El Sakala, and Touristic Road.
It’s so nice and have a good vibes, especially at the night, and you can take great pictures here
Haytham S — Google review
Good place for some food and drinks, a bit quirky in places. Disappointed in some of the shops that all prices were in usd. To much hassle trying to work out. Would be better in egp but hey ho we just didn't buy anything from those shops. No hassle from shop staff which was a nice change. The obligatory camel sitting on the pavement of course. You can also book trips, submarine trip etc and if you come out and walk along to the right you come to the mosque and fish market
Lorna H — Google review
Good place for a walk and relax in the evening (it would be too hot during the day). It offers another vibe of Hurghada. You can find many restaurants (with decent food selection) and shops here.
Tu V — Google review
Very beautiful, nice Marina and good start for your trip to Paradise island .Its nice to you enjoy your evening with good food and wonderful views
Yuliy V — Google review
Great place for a walk in Egypt ⛵🦀 nice and calm, not too much people around trying to sell you something.
Sanja P — Google review
Hurghada Marina is a modern, well-maintained promenade designed primarily for tourists. It’s lined with stylish but often overpriced restaurants, all set in a clean, polished environment. While it’s pleasant to stroll around, it doesn’t reflect the authentic Hurghada – you’ll mostly encounter locals here working in service roles, likely due to the higher prices. The entire area is gated and heavily secured, which may give some visitors a sense of exclusivity or safety. However, this setup might also imply that the rest of Hurghada is less safe – which is not true. Personally, I felt safe at all times throughout the city. Still, the Marina is worth visiting, especially if you enjoy a touch of Monaco-style glamour while on the Red Sea. Come for a sunset walk or a drink with a view – just don’t expect to experience local culture here.

The island is part of Giftun Islands and offers beautiful beaches and reefs just an hour away from the mainland.
The best trip we had in two weeks. Really nice tour guides. The food was very good. Free drinks while lunch. Very clean beach. And the sand was also very nice. The snorkeling was also very nice. The snorkeling guide was really helpful and showed us in 40 minutes a nice coral reef. It was a perfect day.

5-Star Review for Mahmya Beach Everything here feels like a dream come true — even more beautiful in real life than in the photos. The scenery is absolutely stunning, and the atmosphere is just perfect for a relaxing getaway. The food is incredibly delicious and truly stands out; it’s nothing like the typical hotel meals. Every dish is fresh, flavorful, and prepared with care. If you’re looking for a magical place to unwind, Mahmya Beach is definitely the place to be. Highly recommended!
Tamas B — Google review
Amazing day trip to paradise! We booked this excursion through TUI with Travco agency, and it exceeded all expectations. The boat was modern and comfortable, making the journey enjoyable. The highlight was definitely the snorkeling at the big reef outside the island – the marine life and coral formations were spectacular. The water was crystal clear, and we saw an incredible variety of fish. Mahmya Beach itself is absolutely stunning, like something from a postcard. The white sand and turquoise water create a perfect tropical setting. There’s also a smaller reef right off the beach for easy snorkeling access, which was convenient and had plenty to see. The food served during the trip was delicious, and the beach bar had good drinks and service. Everything was well-organized by Travco, and the staff were friendly and professional. Highly recommend this trip if you’re in Hurghada – it’s a must-do for snorkeling enthusiasts and beach lovers alike!
Dumitru O — Google review
I was positively surprised! Crystal-clear water like in the Caribbean, a beautifully fine beach, and great food. The service took a bit longer, but it was still bearable — I didn’t starve
Eyüp G — Google review
Well organised day tour, though quite short (leaving 3pm). Eating a la carte is sufficient. Beautiful sea, nice beach, good boat ride. Only downside is that you aren't allowed to choose your own place as they all are attributed. So you might be under the same sunshade as two other people (if you are only two yourselves).
Punz! — Google review
From the warm welcome at the start to the smooth boat ride, everything about my trip to Mahmaya Island was perfect. The arrival at the island felt magical — crystal clear waters and beautiful scenery. The service was outstanding, with friendly and professional staff who made sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious and fresh, and the overall atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. A truly unforgettable experience — highly recommended!
Ahmed A — Google review
Simply the best place to spend a day. Heaven on earth, very well managed. The only drawback is that the food quality deteriorated compared to when they first opened, and the prices are very unrealistic.
Kareem D — Google review
Don't fall for the charlatans, the people at Tui lied that we would stay until 7 pm and at 3:45 pm they told us to take our clothes and go to the boat and he was very nervous when I asked him why we were going so fast Don't pay double price here !!! !!! We paid 245 euros extra to stay until the evening at Eden Island it was 150 euros and at Paradise Island it was 120 euros don't pay extra because it doesn't deserve the same conditions the same beaches the reef they took us to had no fish, I saw more fish at the mall .

Every single member of staff was wonderful so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. It really felt like everyone went out of their way to make our stay special, and that made such a big difference to our holiday. The hotel itself is beautiful, very well-kept, and always spotless. The atmosphere is both relaxing and lively, making it perfect for families. The food was excellent fresh, tasty, and with plenty of variety every day. We looked forward to every meal because the service and presentation were just as good as the food itself. I want to give a special mention to Hani, the cleaner, who truly went above and beyond. He didn’t just keep our room clean he made it absolutely spotless, paying attention to every little detail. We cannot say enough wonderful things about Sherif Ashraf. From the moment we arrived, he went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. His warmth, professionalism, and genuine kindness truly set him apart. Sherif didn’t just provide excellent service, he made us feel genuinely cared for. Every interaction with him was thoughtful and sincere. He anticipated needs before we even had to ask, always greeting us with a smile and offering help with such grace and enthusiasm. It’s rare to meet someone who makes hospitality feel so personal and heartfelt, but Sherif does exactly that. Because of his efforts, our experience at the hotel was truly unforgettable. He is an absolute credit to the team and a shining example of what true hospitality means. If there were a way to give more than 5 stars, we absolutely would. Thank you, Sherif Ashraf, for your incredible service, you turned a simple stay into something genuinely special.

I stayed here a few weeks ago with a friend. The rooms are good. The resort is spacious with large pools and comfortable sunbeds. The staff made our stay great, from the breakfast team to the guys at the bar. The animation team is great and always very positive. They run activities throughout the day and bring good energy. Every night there is a dance show. A nice way to end the day.

Genuinely not enough words can describe how happy we are with this place. Cleanliness&location was amazing and the food was phenomenal! All the staff were really welcoming and have been amazing from start to finish, they even remembered my husbands name throughout the whole trip and made sure we was well looked after. The manager was so kind and looked after us the whole way. Also Shout out to Omar at the bar! What a lad. Good brother. And many thanks to Abdul for making sure our room was immaculate daily, especially our jacuzzi. This place is pure vibes, we’ll definitely be coming back. Don’t miss out, book now! You won’t be disappointed.

We really enjoyed our time at Sindbad Club in Hurghada. The whole team were extremely polite and helpful, always making sure guests were happy and comfortable. Our room was very nice — clean, comfortable, and always perfectly taken care of. We especially want to mention Ahmed from housekeeping. His friendliness, positive attitude, and helpful advice made our holiday truly special. He went above and beyond for us every day! The resort has great food options, a beautiful beach area, and lots of fun entertainment. It’s a perfect place for a relaxing holiday. We can’t wait to come back again soon!
Robert S — Google review
Well where to start.... What an amazing holiday made even better by all the staff. Arrived late 22.00 check in was fast, effective, and very welcoming. The room was good a bit outdated with a lick of paint needed but otherwise clean and cool due to the free air con wich is loud so wear ear plugs if you need them, towels provided with a fridge and bottled water. First day expected a big rush for beds but there was plenty available all holiday for both sunbathing and shaded areas. Water slides where great for the young girl and adults alike pools get cleaned daily throughout the day. Plenty of bars and restaurants available food was brilliant different verity each night from oriental Italian Indian Mediterranean ect. The hotel it's self was amazing and like I said the staff was brilliant they work so hard all day and night. We never hardly had to get a drink as they would make sure we was relaxing well deserved a few tips. Big shout out to the young lad who saved us a seat in the alchemy each night forgot your name tho. And to the excursions team for a trip of a life time snorkeling in the corals and quad biking in the desert and Gamal for the very informative demonstration of the excursions and where to go I would highly recommend going to him for all activities. Will be returning next year keep up the great work 👍

We had a wonderful holiday at your hotel. The room itself number 1031 in a beautiful location and very good cleaner Mahmud was really very efficient and friendly. Many thanks. The location of the hotel itself is very good. Everything is close, the beach, various pools. All the bars are within easy reach and the extremely friendly wait staff. We will be back.

Brilliant place to visit. They have a McDonalds and kfc. The portion sizes are twice as big as the uk. Also Spinneys is brilliant it’s almost like Asda it has everything and all priced so you won’t get ripped off.

Special thanks goes to Ruby who made this first motor boat trip and reef experience with my 3 yo son unforgettable. I felt always safe and the guys took amazing care of of my son so that he really opened up and had loads of fun. I can highly recommend.

Highly recommended PADI diving centre - staff were friendly and very professional, equipment was excellent quality and well maintained. The house Reef at the dive centre is a superb location with plenty of varied underwater wildlife to observe - sea turtles, rays, moray eels and thousands of fish! My 11yo son did two discovery dives with Nemo who was a fantastic instructor, both dives nearly one hour long and covering full range of permitted depths.

I-Dive Center is very nice. I booked a snorkeling trip with Professor Ahmed and it was a nice trip. I would like to thank the guide Nemo for being a smart, nice and humble guide with me and my family and making us enjoy our time. I also enjoyed diving with the guide because he is a hardworking and wonderful person and the staff is cooperative in working with each other and this is the secret of the success of I-Dive Center. Thank you for making me enjoy my time during my vacation days. ❤️❤️❤️

Amazing dive centre! We looked for a 5* rated PADI centre in Makadi Bay and these guys were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. It had been 14 years since my husband and I scuba dived and we are advanced divers. Mo took us for our ReActivate course and was patient and calming. So much so that we did a boat dive the next day. My son also did his 4 PADI open water dives here with Ali who was amazing and our 11 year old daughter did a Discovery dive and saw puffa fish, turtle and squid. She loved it. Thanks to Carlo, Erika and the team. Special thanks to Elena who helped with all the bookings and admin. Throughly recommend.

Super cool diving center. They offer wonderful activities, such as diving courses, diving trips, fantastic snorkeling excursions and private boats trips. Erika and Carlo help you to find the activity that best suits your needs. We booked the snorkeling excursion with Adel, who is great. We saw incredible fishes and swam with dolphins. It was an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend IDive.

This is the second year in a row we have dived with the Team at I dive. Last year my daughter's and I did a discovery scuba dive from the beach (amazing house reef at Fort Arabesque resort). This year my daughter and I completed our open water PADI coarse with the team. Great service from initial contact, and all pre reading/ exam materials were sent by IDive. We arrived in Makadi bay and completed our coarse with Ali instructing us. Amazing instructor, nothing was a problem for him. Ali was then able to put my wife's fears at bay, and got her to do two Discovery dives, one from a boat which she loved. The whole team at IDive is first class. From the Instagram videos that Carlo makes, the staff in the office, to to boat crews, and staff who help you get ready. We will be back guys. Thankyou.

we were blue lagoon snorkeling. the people working on the ship are kind, helpful and skilled. the ship is clean. the person selling the program said soft drinks, cola, sprite, etc. are included in the price. just bring a towel. this was not the case, there were no soft drinks on board. it was coffee tea. when we booked it was a beautiful sunny day. on the morning of departure, the weather became cloudy and colder. I went to see him saying that it was cold and we didn't want to go swimming with our family. he said it will be nice warm weather soon. unfortunately it didn't happen that way. cloudy, cool weather. the family was cold on the boat, me too. overall it was not a good experience. He sold us the program from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We were at the port at 12:15 p.m.

Wonderful day and great hosts. Felt very well informed and looked after. The nicest snorkeling trip I've been on. No loud music or partying, just very relaxing and great snorkeling. Saw dolphins but felt that they were being chased by the smaller speed boats which was sad. Lovely lunch and amazing guides to assist with safety and snorkeling in groups according to level of experience. Well worth the money and the very early start

We had an absolutely amazing experience with Scuba World Divers in Makadi Bay during our 3-hour snorkeling trip with three different stops. From the very beginning, everything was perfectly organized, safe, and enjoyable. The crew was fantastic – consisting of 4 people: our guide Mahmoud (who spoke fluent German, which made everything much easier for us), a sailor, two captains, and even a photographer who captured wonderful moments. Mahmoud explained all the rules regarding safety, behavior, and nature conservation in detail, making sure everyone felt confident and comfortable before getting into the water. The snorkeling spots they chose were breathtaking, full of colorful corals and fish, and to top it off, they even made it possible for us to see dolphins along the way – a truly unforgettable highlight! For those who weren’t so confident with long-distance swimming, the crew took extra care and provided support, which we really appreciated. The trip included everything we needed: snorkeling equipment, food, and drinks, all of which were excellent. We felt that the money was very well spent, considering the level of service, professionalism, and unforgettable memories we took home. We can only recommend Scuba World Divers to anyone visiting Makadi Bay – whether you’re a beginner or experienced snorkeler, you’ll be in the best hands here!

Great diving centre. Well organized, good rental equipment, friendly staff and a Nice atmosphere. Safety is important at scubaworld and they keep to the PADI standards. For example: no deeper dives than your certificate, no nitrox without course. Looks normal, but I’ve seen other things in Egypt. By the way: If you learned to dive with nitrox, you can dive with nitrox for free. About the divesites: I only did 3 dives. One refresher on the house reef and two boot dives close to the diving school. Very Nice things to see, like turtles, barracudas, seasnake, lionfish and scorpion fish and much more. It’s like swimming in an aquarium. Boat trip was short, but nice. Free drinks, soup and fruit during the 4h trip. Also very friendly and helpfull staff to assist you. My sons (13&14) did a Discover Scuba diving. Also well organized, safe and fun to do! So, if in Makadi Bay, Scuba World is the place to go!!

My absolute recommendation! I spontaneously decided on a “Discover Scuba Diving” test dive and left a few days later with an “Open Water Diver” certificate and completely overwhelmed by the experience :-) Even without any previous knowledge, I felt well advised and above all safe at all times! The only small point of criticism was that the salesperson on the beach didn't mention the not inconsiderable additional costs for learning materials, examination fees etc. Update 06/2025: I did it again – this time the AOWD course with Matthias. Once again, 100% satisfied. Excellent instructor, excellent dive center. Can't wait for the next one!

For context: we are a family of 3, both parents retired instructors, and our 12yo son. We have worked in Egypt, Thailand, curacao and Maldives. We got a nice tour of the dive center upon arrival. They are well organised and well run. The office, guides and even more so the crews were excellent and fun. When our son could or did not want to dive they looked after him and took him snorkeling and created a nice relationship with all of us. They were also flexible in putting dive sites and in particular the military museum on so our JOWD son could have great experiences and memories. They offer half day 2 dives, afternoon 1 dive and full day 3 dives options. The boats are well.lookes after, on time and no complaints can be made! More important to us is as experienced instructors/divers they very quickly adapted, trusted and allowed us to form our family 3-buddy team :). No overbearing attitude and trusted us to close the group, split off to end the dive when our son was cold etc. All adding to a great experience. I absolutely would recommend booking with them. Thank you Isabell, Ida, Safwat, Samir, houssin and all thenothers for helping us making these dives fun for our son and hence helping us gradually making him more confident.

I did the advanced open water diver course with my dive instructor Samir. He was the perfect instructor! Samir was very calm and never stressful or anything like that. He explained everything very good in English so the communication was never a problem. But the Scuba World divers also have Instructors that are speaking German and French for example. The equipment was very good and also the planning for the boat trips. I can highly recommend Scuba World Divers in Makadi Bay and especially the Instructor Samir!

My friends and I spent two weeks diving with the crew at Makadi Bay. The sites we visited were breathtaking, and the Red Sea has some of the most beautiful diving in the world. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had the best trip, from VIP boat tours to some world class training. Even on days when the boats were not full, they would take us out because they wanted us to have the best experience. The house reef is absolutely stunning, and snorkelers can also easily enjoy the beauty right from the pier. The staff also speak a host of different languages, so communication is not an issue. I highly recommend snorkeling/diving/boat tours with these wonderful hosts, we became better divers and we cannot wait to return later this year!

I cannot fault this dive centre. Immaculately organised, efficient, welcoming, friendly, and above all - safe. My husband and I are fairly experienced divers, we've dived with all sorts of dive ops, in various countries, and these people are amongst the very best. Everything just works, and works well! Makadi Bay is absolutely beautiful, plus they have a fabulous boat to take you to sites further out. They sent a lovely reliable driver to pick us up from our hotel, which was a good way from the dive centre, making our life so much easier! And the divemasters go above and beyond to ensure you have a wonderful dive. Mostly German clientele that we met, however the staff has amazing English. Also, they listen! Anything that worries you, or that you're not sure about, they listen and respond to. I just cannot recommend these guys enough. Hope to dive with them again one day.

I had an exceptional week with Extra Divers. Did 4 specialties with Zakaria and it was fantastic. They have a fantastic house reef with plenty to discover and see. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend it.

Awesome place. We did two trips last year with them, my wife diving and I was snorkelling with the kids. We did two more this year. Great bunch of people, they make you feel like family. Most importantly very professional, felt super safe at all times and the equipment and boats were of a very high standard. We wouldn’t even consider another diving school in makadi bay. Cool people, both the staff and the other divers. When you see that most of the other divers on your trip have 200 + dives you know you’re in a good place. Rays, turtles, dolphins, saw them all here. Even the house reef is worth half a day snorkelling. Really amazing.
David G — Google review
Really cannot recommend. Unresponsive to emails, semi-friendly staff, and every attempt to make you pay extra. Decompression chamber fees, dive computer, government boat fees - you will find it all on your bill, even when you went diving from the beach with a guide at just 12 m. Scubaworld just a few hundred m away is a much, much better place. Friendly staff, and nobody tries to rip you off.

Great diving experience. I made my AOWD here! Night dive was amazing! See pictures.

This was my first diving experience and it went very well. It was based on a recommendation from our friends who are customers at this station for more than 8 years. I had a scuba training with a very friendly Trainer, Zakaria. He was very professional and friendly and always with a smile and fun. We dived in the house reef, and we saw many beautiful fish and coreils. The whole crew was very helpful and friendly. For sure I will come back again.

Water & Amusement Parks
Makadi Water World is a large waterpark in Makadi Bay, Egypt, offering fun for both kids and adults with its pools, slides, concessions, and lounging areas. The bay itself is known for its crystal clear waters and diverse marine life, making it a perfect spot for diving. Visitors can stay at luxurious hotels like Iberotel Makadi Beach or Cleopatra Luxury Resort Makadi Bay and enjoy the white sand beaches.
We had an amazing time at Makadi Water World during our stay in Makadi Bay. The water park is massive, with a great variety of slides to suit all ages and levels of thrill-seeking. From adrenaline-pumping slides like the Tunnel Free Fall to more family-friendly options, there’s something for everyone. We arrived just before 10 AM and practically had the place to ourselves for the first couple of hours, which was brilliant. Within two hours, we’d already been on every slide at least twice! One of the best features is the all-inclusive access with hotel wristbands. It made grabbing food and drinks throughout the day so convenient. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the food options were surprisingly good for a water park—burgers, pizzas, and fresh fruit kept us fuelled up for the day. The park is clean, well-maintained, and has plenty of sun loungers and shaded areas to relax in between rides. The kids had an absolute blast, and so did we! Whether you’re staying at a nearby hotel or just visiting for the day, Makadi Water World is a must-visit. It’s a fantastic day out for families, and we’ll definitely be back on our next trip to Egypt. Highly recommended!

Amazing water park that we used when staying at Jaz Makadi hotel. As good as most of the water parks in USA. Awesome

The best Water park in Egypt. Variable slides for all ages starting from toddlers to grown ups. The staff there are friendly and helpful. Very nice place for all ages and fun for all. The only reason I would not give it five stars is because of the very hot grounds that make it very difficult to walk between the slides. There should be a warning for visitors beforehand, Perfect for the family. You have different rides for all ages and groups, with an all inclusive package that covers all you can eat or drink. Recommend to bring a water games shoes as floor are going to be very hot of sun. Great enjoyable experience with a lot o fun, Highly recommended although the food is average🙏🙏

Sharm El-Naga is a casual all-inclusive resort that offers unfussy rooms and a diving center with direct beach access. It's a peaceful place, far from mass tourism, surrounded by nature and featuring a beautiful natural beach with a protected coral reef area for snorkeling. The restaurant serves authentic and simple family cooking while promoting sustainability. The resort provides good value for money, although some rooms may need refurbishing.
It's changed due to the 5 star report taking over the original beach and dive center. I was sad and skeptical but upon arrival today pleasantly surprised. Their new beach is right below our rooms, playground, beach bar and showers all so much closer and cozy. The pier entrance to the sea is constructed professional and comfortable with wide safe steps to access the left side of the original inside bay. It's safe and the pier has benches and boxes for snorkeling equipment or other belongings and parents to sit supervise their children. Everything else remained the same, the wonderful staff, amazing Manager Mina, receptionist and the great chefs and waiters like Hussein. So happy to be back with 20 family members who came from abroad. Food is delicious and it feels like home.

Don't put high expectations and keep in mind that it isn't expensive or 5 star hotel, the food is not fancy but the breakfast is awesome. Rooms are clean and very nice. The hotel is far away from any facilities , so going out is difficult and getting uber is impossible
Amr S — Google review
It's a comfortable place to stay in. The rooms are simple, but well-equipped and most of them offer a beautiful sea view. The staff were always kind and helpful. The food is fresh and delicious. There are three small beaches with beautiful umbrellas made of straw which provide good shelter from the sun. They were never crowded and there's a bar on one of them. The sea is amazing. It was always calm and good for a swim. There is a jetty to get into the water because there are protected coral reefs all over, so it might not be the best option for kids and non-swimmers. On the other hand, it's a paradise for diving and snorkeling as you can see many exotic fish all around! I was there twice for a few days already and am sure to return whenever I visit Egypt.
Sanja M — Google review
Warm and polite staff. Great place for relaxing, away from other hotels/facilities. Simple and clean place with amazing coral reefs.
Amr A — Google review
The 35 Euros for a few hours is a ripoff as the lunch and the two drinks are not worth more than 5 €. The snorkelling is great but if you’re a beginner they don’t tell you what to do but wear a life vest. They are pet friendly and that’s a good thing.
Fab L — Google review
With the new construction of the new hotel, this hotel is absolutely not suitable as a family and dog hotel. One star is still too many. The sea is only accessible via a wooden bridge. Playing alone on and in the sea in shallow water. Not a chance. Only the guests of the new hotel now have free access to the sea. Without a dog beach, of course. We are extremely frustrated and are considering leaving. This no longer has anything to do with the original Sharm El Naga. Addendum: After a 3-day stay, I have to revise my harsh assessment a little. The main reason for this is the atmosphere and the really good staff. These ensure that despite the new circumstances it was a very nice and relaxed holiday. But please, dear owners, show consideration for the reef. Protects the reef. For these reasons I now give it 4 stars and hope that the owners show more consideration for their sanctuary.

This is a great place for rental. The kites (or most importantly the bar and lines) are in the excellent condition, much better than elsewhere in the area. The spot is less crowded than others. This place also offers better prices and by far the best service - you will be really well looked after! The reef does bottom out at low tide, so there is a walk across the reef (about 50-100 yards/ meters) to get deep enough to kite but this is not an issue at high tide.
Greg — Google review
I went there after an hour in another kitesurfing school, near my hotel, where I felt bad. Among these friendly people I felt as at home immediately. They helped me with everything, even with the daily transfer from the distant hotel. Everything is safe, they are watching you, helping with rescue boat. No better place for kite surfing. As a complete beginner I started to ride by myself after 4 days. Many thanks guys! I look forward to meet you again in May!

This is a great place to kite surf. I've started my kite surfing journey there and now I recomend it to everyone. I could choose my instructor and Azab even speaks Polish. If You kite by yourself this is also a great spot, because it is windy most of time and there are not too many rocks underwater.
Maciej K — Google review
Best recommendations. Friendly and fair service. I stayed at Palm Royale and was picked up in a RIB. Simple and fast. Better constant wind. Was annoyed by the poor treatment I received at the kite spot close to the hotel.

Great crew, very friendly people. The instructors are competent, calm and cheerful. A good rescue from the zodiac, you can feel safe and nice. I recommend it to everyone.

-Excellent spot for kitesurfing always windy due to its location. - Amazing team, I got training from 3 different trainers with 3 different kits and boards to give you more experiences out of your comfort zone. - They allowed me to kite from the beach, Island and from the middle of deep water while they are following me by boat for rescue if needed. - Mostafa gave me the riding course and then Abdullah trained me in deep water and finally I got the last session with Ali to sharpening my skills, all of them were a great supporter, honest, perfectly managed my time, you just have to relax and trust them, they are keen to keep you safe and feel relax with this extreme sport.
Motasim A — Google review
Very nice and heartful people all around. They teached me to kite within 10h and I felt very much at home all the time.
Eduard S — Google review
+ The staff is nice and helpful + The spot is not crowded - A lot of reef around the spot. When there is low tide you have to go kite on full deep water as the lagoon is fully dry or ankle deep. - (Huge minus) the rescue for some absurd reason does not close the main tube after deflating the kite after the rescue, they leave it open and that's how my kite got full of salt water. - instructors getting late for pre-arranged lessons

We had such a great experience as a family of 5 diving with Freedom Divers. From the very beginning it was clear that Ahmed ran a very professional outfit. The safety aspect throughout our 7 dives, up to date and clean equipment were all at a very high standard. Freedom Divers have their own fabulous boat which had all the facilties and was very efficiently run by the whole team. Help was always on hand if and when you needed it. Lunch was delicious and afternoon tea too. What's not to like. Would highly recommend and will definitely be coming back to dive in Safaga with this team again in the future. Big thanks goes to the whole team!

We dived over two days with Freedom Divers in mid October! Located in Sufaga, this is an excellent diving operation! Fantastic dive boat, lovely boat food and excellent staff. All our dives were lovely and relaxed. Equipment was top notch. I can highly recommend Freedom Divers to amateurs and professionals alike!

Great customer service with excellent knowledge of the dive sites. We dove in August during the off-season but only had 3-5 other divers on the boat for our dives, which was LOVELY! The other companies seemed to be much more crowded but this is perfect because who wants to fight crowds when diving. Everything was excellent on the boat. The lunch was delicious and the dives were great! Good quality gear as well!

I dived with Freedom for 3 days, I have AOWD. I am really glad I went to this diving center, because safety is for me top priority. It seems they put a lot of importance in the safety, and equipment chrck. The regulator and the wetsuits were brand new. And on top of that, the instrictors were very friendly, but not too much: they left me decide what to do during the dive, I felt like I was diving with my buddy, without being pushed to do what instructor says. But at the same time, the instructor I was with did double checks on the equipment and showed me some amazing fish species that I wouldn't have moticed myself. Very easy-going. On the first day I had a problem with my own BCD, they helped me to fix this. The boat is super comfy, food was just great, a lot of choice of food. On top of this, they are flexible with the price and made me a good discount because I dived 3 days. Everything we agreed on was done, and even more (thank you for amazing underwater videos, Mo'emen!). Overall, it was one of my best diving experiences.

Really positive experience with these guys for my first dive. We were on a boat with divers of mixed experience and they were really relaxed but attentive. We spent the last week in Safaga to get our OWD Brevet and a few more days of diving. What an experience. From the very first contact Diko and his team are very helpful regarding everything about the trip: They helped us find the perfect little hotel directly next to the dive base and close to the boat. They organised airport transfer, optional Activities ( like a very fun Quad tour in the desert with a visit to some beduins). Prices are transparent and very fair. While you may find cheaper Dive bases you will get the most bang for your buck with freedom divers: - Rental Equipment in excellent condition - Comfy and safe boat - Excellent food on the board ( optional but seriously better than most i have eaten on dry land in Safaga) - Very helpful and friendly staff ( egyptian and german) - A lot of returning clients that are very open and friendly to new faces - Diko is a very competent, unique and fun instructor. If you dont take yourself too serious you will have a lot of fun on the boat and in the water. - Very close bonding with crew and clients: We spent a lot of time each evening with people from the boat and the dive base hanging around at the "divers house bar" or at the Nemo Hotel pool. Almost every client was a returning client. That alone speaks for the service and atmosphere at freedom divers. My friend and I will most definitely return too. TLDR: An excellent dive base that will suck you in and never let you go again. Shoutout to Diko and everyone at the base and on the boat that made the last week a very fond and lasting memory.

The Dendera Temple to the goddess Hathor is a well-preserved classical Egyptian temple with a complex and zodiac ceiling. It is located roughly an hour's drive away from Luxor, boasting vibrant colors and intricate details. Visitors can explore hidden passageways and tunnels, as well as admire the beautiful ceiling. While tourist groups tend not to frequent this site, it is worth the extra effort to visit.
Possibly my favourite temple out of all the ones I visited in Egypt. The colours are very nice and better than any other temple, as it has been restored around 2021 I believe. It is worth a trip from Luxor to go see this one. We were the first to arrive on the day at 7:30am, which made it even better.

A spectacularly well-preserved Ptolemaic temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor. The temple is really a fascinating place to visit, with many rooms to explore, including on the roof where astronomical rituals were performed and where the famous Dendera Zodiac was originally located (currently in the Louvre but a reproduction is in situ). Security personnel were very friends and helped arrange a taxi to take us back to Qena and allowed us to leave our bags in the visitor centre.

The Dendera Temple, dedicated to Hathor—the goddess of love, music, beauty, and joy—is one of Egypt’s most beautifully preserved temples, renowned for its vibrant colors and detailed astronomical art. As you enter the grand hypostyle hall, the Hathor-headed columns greet you with serene expressions, while above stretches a stunning ceiling depicting the heavens. The ceiling is a masterpiece of Egyptian cosmology, showing the sky goddess Nut swallowing and rebirthing the sun, constellations drifting across the sky, and the phases of the moon from new moon to full moon, illustrating the cyclical nature of time and celestial events. Among the most famous elements is the Dendera Zodiac, featuring all twelve signs, which reflects the fusion of Egyptian and Greco-Roman astronomy and served as a guide for ancient rituals. While the original zodiac is now housed in France, a detailed replica remains in the temple, preserving its astronomical significance. Exploring further, the temple reveals crypts, chapels with intricate reliefs, and rare depictions of Cleopatra VII with her son Caesarion. A climb to the rooftop reveals the birth house and sanctuaries, along with sweeping views over the temple grounds. Dendera is a magical blend of color, myth, and celestial observation—where the cycles of the moon, stars, and sun come alive in ancient art, creating an unforgettable experience.

Nice temple you shouldn’t miss. Dendera Temple is truly one of the most impressive sites I visited in Egypt. Unlike the busy temples in Luxor or Karnak, this place feels calm, peaceful, and surprisingly well-preserved. The highlight for me was the beautifully restored ceiling, where the original colors and detailed carvings of the goddess Hathor are still visible. The interior is spacious and atmospheric, with light filtering through the columns, creating a very ancient and mysterious vibe. The famous Zodiac Chamber is also a must-see, especially if you’re interested in astronomy or Egyptian mythology. Overall, if you’re already in Luxor, Dendera is absolutely worth the trip. It’s stunning, less crowded, rich in history, and offers a uniquely memorable experience.

It is strong recommend! Dedicated paiting reserves ancient art level in Egypt. Luckily wasn't destroyed by Roman army. The ceiling painting is well preserved.

This temple provide an idea of what other temples must have been like. 5000 years ago the Egyptian society achieved so much. The people clearly had basics like food and shelter covered to a large over extended periods of time.
Mary H — Google review
Built in the late period by ptolomy XII (the father of the famous Cleopatra) and wonderfully decorated with colours still visible in most of the scenes. The amusing thing is that the workers who built the temple did not respect Ptolomy and so never put his name inside the cartouch on the walls. For those slightly more adventurous, you can go up in the roof. I have a fear of heights but managed to go up to the top and see the views including the huge mud brick enclosure walls. There are two options which cost 100 egyptian pounds each. One is to the tunnels and one to the roof. Both are worth the cost
Tony F — Google review
The temple itself is incredibly beautiful. If you are a solo female traveler, you will experience a lot of sexual harassment and intense cat calling from the shop vendors. Even for women in groups, the vendors do not leave you alone and are incredibly persistent and intense. It definitely detracts from the goddess temple vibe.

This temple provide an idea of what other temples must have been like. 5000 years ago the Egyptian society achieved so much. The people clearly had basics like food and shelter covered to a large over extended periods of time.

Dendera Temple of Hathor

KV62 - Tomb of Tutankhamun

Mentioned on

Ancient Ruins
KV62, also known as the tomb of Tutankhamun, is a small but intimate burial place located in the Valley of the Kings. It consists of four chambers and features colorful wall paintings and various artifacts. Although smaller and less decorated than other royal tombs, it holds historical significance as the final resting place of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Visitors can see his mummy displayed in a glass box within the tomb.
A childhood dream come true – King Tut’s tomb is breathtaking! Finally seeing King Tutankhamun’s tomb in person was a surreal and emotional experience—truly a childhood bucket list item crossed off! The moment you step inside, you’re struck by the vibrant colors still preserved on the walls after thousands of years. The artwork is mesmerizing, telling the powerful story of the boy king’s journey to the afterlife. It’s incredible how detailed and symbolic every figure and hieroglyph is—like walking through ancient history frozen in time. The significance of his legacy and the mystery surrounding his life and death make it all the more captivating. An absolute must-see for anyone fascinated by Egypt’s rich past!
Muneeb S — Google review
The tomb of Tutankhamun, also known as KV62, was discovered in 1922 in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor by the British archaeologist Howard Carter, with financial support from Lord Carnarvon. It is considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time because, unlike most other royal tombs of the 18th Dynasty, it was largely intact. Tutankhamun died very young, probably at around 18 or 19 years old, which explains why his tomb is relatively small compared to those of other pharaohs. Despite its modest size, Carter and his team uncovered more than 5,000 objects, offering an extraordinary glimpse into the life and funerary practices of ancient Egypt. Among the most famous finds are the nested coffins, the innermost made of solid gold, and the golden death mask weighing around 11 kilograms, which has become an icon of ancient art. The burial goods also included jewelry, furniture, weapons, chariots, and everyday items intended for use in the afterlife. Tutankhamun’s mummy itself showed evidence of disease such as malaria and injuries that may have contributed to his early death. Today, his tomb stands not only as a treasure house of Egyptian art but also as a window into the culture and daily life of the pharaonic era. You need extra ticket to visit it 2025 the coast is 700 le . however it's small tomb only the mummy is worth visiting
Mahmoud A — Google review
Visiting Tutankhamun’s tomb is impressive, but also deeply sad. The first thing that surprises you is how tiny it is — literally one of the smallest tombs in the Valley of the Kings, considering he was a pharaoh. The real tragedy is what you find inside. When Howard Carter opened the tomb in 1922, Tutankhamun’s body was brutally damaged: his neck and arms were broken to remove the mask and coffins, and his remains were burnt with chemicals. What’s left today is a fragile mummy lying alone in a glass case, without the dignity he deserves. The entry ticket officially costs 10 euros, but most guides will charge you 20 if you don’t pay attention. For what you get, it feels more like a scam than an experience. The walls have a few paintings, the chamber is very small, and nothing compares to the majestic tombs of other pharaohs. Tutankhamun was not an object, he was a person. He should be allowed to rest in peace, not turned into a tourist business. This place should inspire respect and remembrance, not disappointment.

Tutankhamun’s Tomb (KV62) is the only royal tomb in the Valley of the Kings that was found nearly intact, making it one of the most famous archaeological discoveries in history. Visiting the tomb requires a special ticket costing 700 EGP. Inside, you can still see the structure and layout of the burial chamber, though all the treasures, including the golden mask and jewelry, have been transferred to the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) for preservation. Despite the artifacts being gone, seeing the tomb itself is a unique and memorable experience, offering a direct connection to the boy king and the grandeur of ancient Egyptian burial practices.
Antony L — Google review
Iconic. The tomb is small but utterly beautiful. My only sadness was that the king’s body is now displayed in a glass case whereas twenty years ago he used to be within his sarcophagus in the tomb which was more dignified. Still it is overwhelmingly beautiful and sad.
Nathalie A — Google review
The Tomb of King Tut. One of the most famous discoveries of ancient Egypt due to the rare finding of a nearly intact tomb, containing a vast collection of artifacts like the golden death mask that is on display in the Grand Egyptian Museum. In ancient Egypt, the tomb would be under construction during the life of the Pharoh so essentially the longer you lived the more elaborate the tomb. As a result of his passing at a young age, King Tut’s tomb is smaller than the others. Regardless I still think it’s beautifully preserved as a must see.
Jackie — Google review
A dream that had came true. It still shocks me each day I had went to see it. Without any doubt in the world if you ever get the opportunity to visit it. If you can do it and you love Egypt and Ancient Egyptian history. Would recommend you to go.
Rodion M — Google review
I loved this visit! Having already seen all his tomb objects at GEM, it was very fitting to see his tomb and his mummie. I was surprised how tiny and dainty he was. While the tomb is small and unfinished due to his early death, what is there is beautiful. I think it would have been nice for a few of his treasures to have stayed in his tomb with his body. His mummie looked a little bit alone in there

The Valley of the Kings, also known as the 'Valley of the Gates of the Kings,' is an ancient archaeological site located in Egypt. It features 63 tombs and burial chambers that were used for 500 years between the 16th and 11th centuries BC to bury pharaohs and nobles. The site was chosen for its significance in Egyptian mythology, as it aligns with the sun god's cycle of death and rebirth.
This place is incredible; it was honestly the highlight of my trip to Luxor. The drive from the ticket office to the valley is a very memorable experience!! The Valley isn’t far from Luxor city but it feels like you’re in the middle of the desert. This place was the last stop of our tour, and with it also being 40C, it was absolutely exhausting. However so worth it! Beware of workers trying to take your phone from your hands to take pictures and then ask for a tip. I’ve seen it happen to others and they also tried to do that with me, thankfully I turned away before they managed to grab my phone. There’s also a bazaar with souvenirs and clothing - the workers aren’t too pushy which is good. The landscape of the mountains is gorgeous, and the walls are beautifully decorated. The actually tombs itself are covered. Take lots of water with you. I highly recommend coming here.

A Must-See: The Valley of the Kings The Valley of the Kings absolutely blew me away. On the surface, as you walk in, the entrances to the tombs don’t look like much — just simple openings cut into the hillside. But don’t be fooled. The real magic is hidden underground. Once you step inside, the tombs are nothing short of astonishing: vivid colours, intricate carvings, and plenty of corridors that feel like you’re travelling back thousands of years. There are 62 tombs in total, not all are accessible, and honestly, you’d never know where to start without a good guide. A standard ticket gives you entry to three tombs of your choice, so having a knowledgeable guide is essential — they’ll tell you exactly which ones are worth your time and which to skip (because not all tombs are created equal!). Additionalmproves for entry to Tut's timber and 2 others - we have not paid as it seems the 3 earlier were enought to astinosh. If you’re heading to Luxor, the Valley of the Kings is unmissable. Go for the history, stay for the jaw-dropping art hidden beneath the desert floor. Pro tips: make sure you have good guide as their story will bring it to life, it's in the desert so make sure you covered and have plenty of water/drinks with you, be aware of scammers on site.

Amazing! Some of the tombs can be a bit of a hike to get into. And obviously very hot and muggy inside but its a once in a lifetime experience. If you have a hard time walking or climbing stairs then not advisable. Otherwise you MUST visit if youre in Luxor.

Absolutely 10/10! The best site to visit in Egypt by far. Definitely would recommend purchasing the additional tickets for Tutankhamen and Seti I, these tombs were amazing in comparison to the ones included in the basic ticket.
Nicole B — Google review
The Valley of the Kings is one of Egypt’s most breathtaking archaeological sites, chosen as a secret burial ground to protect New Kingdom pharaohs from tomb robbers. Hidden deep in a desert canyon, it contains around 63 known tombs, each carved into the mountainside with incredible detail. Walking through the valley feels surreal—silent, harsh, and filled with ancient history. The tombs we visited were stunning, with vivid colors and beautifully preserved reliefs that reveal the pharaohs’ journey to the afterlife. Despite all the precautions, almost every tomb here was looted in antiquity—except for the tomb of Tutankhamun, the only royal burial found nearly intact. It remains one of the valley’s greatest stories and a highlight for any visitor to Luxor.

If you go to Egypt and love history like I do, don’t miss this. It was spectacular as were of the temples and historical places we went to see. This was one of my favourite place to visit in Egypt.

Absolutely amazing. The creation of the tombs that we visited were breath taking. The work & art behind them are remarkable. You can't really believe how hard they worked to make the tombs for the pharaohs. A must see if you are in Luxor. There is a lot of walking, climbing up & down steps & uneven surfaces. But it's all worth it, just fascinating.
Claire P — Google review
The Valley of the Kings should really be called the Valley of the Rulers. In this area is where you will find the Tombs of various Pharaohs (both male and female Pharaohs). When visiting the site, the general ticket will get you into three tombs which can change from time to time. There are other Tombs that you can gain access to that are an additional fee. The first Tomb we explored was the Tomb of Merenptah. This is one of the three tombs included in our general ticket. It’s a site to see and a great tomb to explore first. Note, it gets hot in the Tombs and going earlier in the day is recommended.

The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, also known as the 'Valley of the Gates of the Kings,' is an iconic reconstructed temple located beneath the cliffs at Deir el-Bahari in Egypt. This site was used for 500 years between the 16th and 11th centuries BC to build tombs for pharaohs and nobles.
Words cannot describe this temple. Ancient, monumental, historic. This temple is visually brilliant, so picture-esque, and we had the best time seeing all parts of the temple!

This enormously popular monument, for me, is worthy to see, because of the historic and architectural significance but not that beautiful as i was expecting from the images i have seen. Note that this is one of the hottest places to visit in Egypt, that i do not recommend for older people and others with health issues, even though there is an ambulance waiting, and prepare a loooooot of mineral water, cover your head, sunglasses and fan. Don't misjudge the distance from ticket office to the temple, buy car ticket (20egp) and prepare tip for the driver to go back, it's worth every penny.
Nemanja P — Google review
An incredible temple built for an incredible human being; Egypt's only female Pharaoh. Even though it's partially restored, the temple that's been built/carved straight into the rock face looks incredible, offering well-preserved inner chambers and impressive sculptures. You can also find the final remnants of Hatshepsut's 'botanic garden' here. Avoid the tourist trap shops if you can and bring plenty of water to enjoy this magnificent place. Tip; watching the sun set over the temple during Egyptian autumn is a nice extra.
Lars — Google review
A masterpiece carved in rock. This place is an absolute Must See, on par with the Pyramids of Giza! The panorama of the temple, seemingly growing out of the massive cliff, sticks in your memory forever. The architecture is unique; you can feel a special, almost cosmic magic here. The history is gripping: Hatshepsut was a great female pharaoh, but after her death, envious successors tried to erase her name from history. Fortunately, greatness cannot be destroyed. Make sure to look around at the cliffs — they are honeycombed with the tombs of ancient nobles. What's amazing is that excavations are active right now; archaeologists are constantly discovering new tombs and artifacts. History is being uncovered right before your eyes! Tip: Climb to the top terrace — the view of the valley and the excavation sites is simply incredible

The location at the foot of the cliffs adds a dramatic and breathtaking backdrop.

The warrior queen who traveled far and wide to unite Egypt and ruled like a king - the story deserves a documentary in itself (I am sure there is one). In the arms of the mountains lies this beautiful temple - an imprint of history on the face of earth.

After visiting the valley of the kings the Mortuary temple of Hatshepsut become at most just “ok”. I honestly don’t think it’s worth the visit and the price paid. The Avenue of the Rams, also referred to as 'Sphinx Alley,' is a remarkable ancient ceremonial road that stretches approximately 3 kilometers, connecting the Luxor Temple with the Karnak Temple Complex in Egypt. This stunning avenue is adorned with around 1,300 ram-headed sphinx statues, each telling tales of Egypt's illustrious past.
Located in front of the First pylon is the short, but impressive Avenue of the Rams. It is composed of sphinx-like creatures with heads of rams and bodies of a lion. This is not the same as the Avenue of the Sphinxes which connects Karnak to Luxor, runs north to south and begins at the temple of Khonsu.

Karnak is a massive temple complex in Luxor, Egypt, featuring well-preserved ancient ruins and over 200 structures, including the imposing Amen-Ra temple. The site offers private tours with pick-up services from hotels in Luxor, guided by knowledgeable Egyptologists. Visitors can explore the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, and Colossi of Memnon on this approximately 5-hour excursion.
This is usually the first stop of the big three. Karnak is simply mind blowing. You have to be there. Take enough time. And have water with you. You need two hours or more to see everything. Watch out that you get to shadow places to get a rest from the Sun. don’t start doing photos at the beginning. when you do the first walk into the temple just get all the impressions period without being distracted. Go to the halls watch every pillars walks through the right where is the holy sea and walk straight until you can’t go any further because they are still archaeological working on ongoing. Then take a similar way back and start doing photos. You will have an impression by now period. When you do photos of the pillars go down a little bit to get a bit of perspective. Period. Karnak Temple is one of the most impressive ancient sites in Egypt, a vast complex shaped over more than 2,000 years by countless pharaohs. Walking through the Great Hypostyle Hall—filled with towering columns—is unforgettable, especially with sunlight streaming through the stone forest. The obelisks are among Karnak’s most iconic features. Hatshepsut’s soaring pink-granite obelisk stands as one of the tallest surviving in Egypt, while the older, partially standing obelisk of Thutmose I shows the scale and craftsmanship of earlier rulers. These towering monuments add dramatic vertical beauty to the complex. At the back of the temple, the sacred scarab statue is a fun and symbolic stop—visitors walk around it seven times for good luck and blessings. Karnak is vast, atmospheric, and filled with remarkable details, making it one of Luxor’s most unforgettable highlights.

Colossi of Memnon

Mentioned on

Sights & Landmarks
The Colossi of Memnon, a pair of massive Egyptian statues, are the only remnants of the ancient temple dedicated to King Amenhotep III. These colossal figures were built around 1350 BC and stand as a testament to the power and grandeur of the 18th dynasty in ancient Egypt.
The Colossi of Memnon are two gigantic seated statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, dating back to the 14th century BCE, that stand on the west bank of the Nile opposite Luxor. Each statue is about 18 meters high and carved from blocks of quartzite sandstone that were transported from quarries near Cairo, more than 600 kilometers away. They originally stood at the entrance of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple, one of the largest ever built in Egypt, but the temple itself was largely destroyed by floods and later reused as building material. The two statues are all that remain standing on the site, serving as silent guardians of the ruined complex. Both statues depict the king seated on a throne, hands resting on his knees, looking east toward the rising sun. The sides of the thrones are decorated with reliefs showing the Nile god Hapi and symbolic representations of conquered peoples. Although badly damaged over time—particularly the upper portions of the figures—they still impress visitors with their sheer scale and presence. In antiquity, the northern statue became famous for producing a mysterious sound at dawn, a phenomenon caused by the heating and cooling of the stone after it cracked in an earthquake. Greek and Roman travelers associated this “singing” with Memnon, a mythical hero of the Trojan War, and the statues became a major attraction in the classical world. Today, the Colossi of Memnon remain one of the most iconic sights on the west bank of Luxor. They stand as monuments not only to the power and ambition of Amenhotep III but also to the fascination they inspired in visitors for thousands of years. Even though they are the ruined remnants of a once-magnificent temple, their enduring presence continues to embody the grandeur and mystery of ancient Egypt.
Mahmoud A — Google review
Quick stop on the way to the hotel air balloon rides. There was a bathroom across the road which was decent. Nice to see a statue in its original location with no tourist stuff around. Its also free to see. There's also an excavation currently going on behind the statues so that was cool to see in person.
Dave P — Google review
The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues standing proudly on the west bank of the Nile near Luxor. These imposing figures, each about 18 meters tall, once guarded the entrance to the mortuary temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, built in the 14th century BCE during the height of the New Kingdom. Today, the temple is largely gone, but these monumental statues remain as silent witnesses to its former grandeur. Carved from single blocks of quartzite sandstone, the statues depict Amenhotep III seated on his throne, hands resting on his knees, gazing toward the rising sun. Their sheer size and craftsmanship reflect the power and authority of the pharaoh, as well as the skill of ancient Egyptian sculptors. The term “Memnon” comes from Greek mythology. Memnon was a legendary Ethiopian king and a hero of the Trojan War. According to myth, Memnon was associated with the rising sun and was believed to greet the dawn. When one of the statues began to emit a mysterious, melodious sound at sunrise —likely caused by heat expanding the cracked stone after the 27 BCE earthquake— Greeks and Romans connected this phenomenon to Memnon’s myth, interpreting it as the hero greeting his mother, the dawn.
Lefteris S — Google review

Each statue stands about 18 meters tall and depicts the pharaoh seated on a throne decorated with symbolic carvings. Although the temple behind them has mostly disappeared, the colossi remain iconic landmarks. In antiquity, one statue was famous for emitting a mysterious “singing” sound at dawn, attracting visitors from across the ancient world. Today, they stand as enduring reminders of the grandeur of ancient Thebes.

Visited 28 October 2022. The only free archaeological site in Luxor can be found en route to the necropolis' on the West Bank. The Colossi of Memnon are in fact the damaged statues of King Amenhotep III. They stand at the the entrance to what was the largest temple in Egypt when it was built : the Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III. The northern entrance to this temple is where you will find the Colossi of Amenhotep III figures today. Built around 1350 BC these are all that remain of the temple after it was severely damaged by an earthquake and subsequently looted of materials for other temples. Standing at 18 metres high the figures are made of Quartzite sandstone and the stones were likely quarried from el-Gabal el-Ahmar ( which is near modern day Cairo ) In popular culture these figures are mentioned in the Wilbur Smith novel River God. The site gets crowded in the mornings due to many tourist coaches passing by on the way to the Valley of the Kings and the Hatshepsut Temples. There is also continuing archaeological work going on behind the statues for the conservation of the Mortuary Temple. Two smaller colossi can be seen behind the Colossi of Memnon which would have marked the First Pylon of the Temple.

They originally stood at the entrance of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple. A mortuary temple was build by each pharon and it was a place they came to die in and to be mummified. The mortuary temples were on the way to world-famous Valley of the kings. the temple itself is considered to be one of largest in Egypt, and destroyed by floods . The two statues are all that remain standing on the site, serving as silent guardians of the ruined complex. They are free to see and worth the stop on way to Valey of kings.

The Luxor Museum, located on the West Bank of Luxor, is a treasure trove of ancient Egyptian artifacts. It boasts a remarkable collection that includes everyday items, artwork, sculptures, and even mummies. The museum's deliberate curation ensures that the quality of the pieces on display shines through in an uncluttered and well-labeled setting.
Amazing place, the best time to visit will be at noon, all the artifacts are indoors and the place is air conditioned, especially in the summer as most of Luxor's attractions are out doors and the weather is too harsh. The place is nice and well organized. It is also wheelchair accessible. In one section, there is a special escalator. There are restrooms near the ticket kiosk.

This museum is quite small, very quite a bit dark! I prefer more lighting in a room but that’s a personal preference. Some nice exhibits, well laid out. We went in the evening very quiet so I appreciated not being overcrowded like some other places.

Prepare your credit card. Is a national museum. You can visit between 30 min to 2 hours. You ça see some mommy, jewelry, statues, and complete your understanding of Egypt.
Fredy G — Google review
An absolutely stunning museum that showcases the finest artifacts from Luxor’s rich archaeological heritage. Though not very large, the collection quality is top-notch, with every exhibit carefully curated and beautifully displayed. You’ll find well-preserved statues, pottery, royal mummies, and relics from the New Kingdom era — all presented with excellent lighting and clear English explanations. It’s air-conditioned, quiet, and offers a great escape from the heat and crowds of outdoor sites. Perfect for history enthusiasts who want to see ancient Egyptian art up close without the chaos of larger museums. 💡 Insider Tip: They let you photograph mummies here unlike other museums in Egypt.

The Museum is well maintained and wheel chair accessible. For those who already visited GEM Museum and other museums in Cairo, this Museum might not give the wow factor got for the others. It was closed from 2pm to 5pm for break so visit hours had to be planned accordingly.
Rinu G — Google review
It was one of the best museums i have visited in Egypt. Not to big, not too small. We'll organize. It has some mummies and some historical pieces. Recommended.
Rachid H — Google review
Very interesting museum with some nice pieces. But it’s really small, that’s why I have only 4 stars. If you have being at any of Cairo’s museum, I don’t recommend you coming here.
John B — Google review
Significantly smaller collection than the larger museums in Cairo but very spacious and a good break from the heat in Luxor. Exhibit descriptions are noticeably aging compared to the recent renovated sites but clear to read. Might be the clearest view of a mummy without having to fight a crowd of people. Mummy of Ahmose and a Royal Mummy. Nice section on Egyptian engineering, design and the measurement tools. Not often they get their own exhibit and I find them to be some of the most fascinating items. Card payment only, but worth the 400LE at the time I went 10/25.

Medinet Habu is an ancient Egyptian temple dedicated to Amun, featuring intricate bas relief sculpting and the tomb of Ramesses III. Situated in the sleepy Kom Lolah village with the Theban mountains as its backdrop, this site was a significant center of economic life in Thebes for centuries. It once housed temples, storage rooms, workshops, administrative buildings, a royal palace, and accommodations for priests and officials.
Stunning colour preservation on the underside of the gateways and some pillars. Location is close to the valley of the king's and it's the only temple with the kings palace remains next to it. Also great because it's not as busy as the other temples and just as stunning. Great for picture taking and a chill out
Kathie K — Google review
The temple has a great atmosphere and many drawings are very well preserved. There are still small temples on the site that are from an older time. So far the largest paintings I have seen in Egypt. The site has a toilet with cafe and is also suitable for wheelchairs. What is unpleasant are the sellers who try to sell something here particularly aggressively.

Best preserve temple by Egypt. Spent about 30 minutes. A good tour guide will make the visit very interesting.

Huge temple complex. Wheel chair access to most important places. Be aware that local men will offer to take a picture of you next to a statue.. etc, but afterwards wants a tip. This was an experience all over and at every historic site. Best to smile and say no thanks.

One of the most interesting treasures of Egypt and one of the most pleasant to visit. Here too the pigeons begin their destruction and the police ask for tips. There are rooms closed to tourists to certainly protect the paintings but open to pigeons?

No words can describe that place. The best of the best. The temple contains alot of ancient monuments and great recording of ancient civilization. There are alot of scenes to take pictures there and every time you visit you will feel that you see it for the first time.

A wonderful ancient Egyptian temple with many hieroglyphics and the story of the battle with the sea peoples. It's well preserved and even has some original colors on the walls.

This was by far the best we visited in Egypt! Not very many people and it is just as grand and historic as the other sites. Bathrooms and places to eat across the street. Plenty of street vendors selling souvenirs. A lot more relaxed visit. Enjoyed it!

Luxor Temple is a magnificent complex that was primarily built under the reigns of Amenhotep III and Ramesses II, with contributions from Tutankhamun and others. Situated on the West Bank of Luxor, it is part of a spectacular collection of historical attractions that offer insight into Egypt's rich history.
Lovely place to visit! When we arrived there was no queue. You can buy tickets online for almost all visits to temples in Egypt via egymonuments, which can be useful during busier times.

Really cool temple to see with big pillars, even thought size doesn’t matter, they are still huge. It says it closes at 7pm on Google but it actually closes at 8pm, last entry might be 7. Can walk around here for about an hour or 2 and see some really cool history. Would recommend visiting here when in Luxor, especially if you go at night or early morning.

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ A Photographer’s Dream — First Visit & Absolutely Blown Away! As a first-time visitor (and a photographer), Luxor Temple completely surpassed every expectation I had. The moment I walked through the entrance, I felt like I was stepping into a living story thousands of years old. The scale, the details carved into every stone, and the way the light hits the columns — especially at night — is a visual masterpiece. I’ve photographed many incredible locations, but Luxor Temple holds something truly unique: history, artistry, and emotion all in one place. The night lighting adds an extra layer of magic — every corner is a captivating frame waiting to be captured. Beyond the photography, just being there is unforgettable. You feel the weight of ancient civilization, the magnificence of the pharaohs, and the spirit of Egypt all around you. Highly recommend adding this to your must-visit list — whether you’re a history lover, traveler, or creative soul — Luxor Temple is the definition of awe-inspiring. I’ll cherish this experience forever!

Luxor Temple is an ancient Egyptian temple in the heart of Luxor, built over 3,000 years ago. It’s famous for its huge statues, grand columns, and the Avenue of Sphinxes that once linked it to Karnak Temple. At night, the temple is beautifully lit, making it one of the most magical sights in Egypt

Visited with a tour guide who helped us understand the significance of each structure and its stories. Absolutely breathtaking views of the ruins which are still intact. There are a few seating areas as well for people to relax and observe. The entire experience would take around 1-2 hours.

An incredible ancient Egyptian temple located on the east bank of the Nile. Our guide explained that Several Pharaohs had a hand in building this temple including Ramses II and Tutankhamun. The temple was linked to the Karnak Temple by what is known as the avenue of the sphinxes. This temple, unlike a lot of other temples is opened pretty late and I highly recommend going once all the other temples are closed to see the sunset through its columns. It was absolutely magical.

Stunning temple. Was quite busy but we went just after dark which was beautiful with all the lights. The obelisk is SO much larger in person. Give yourself a few hours here to see everything here. Bathrooms are absolute garbage, dirty and unkept. That was a bit disappointing for such a large attraction.

Temple of Khnum

The Temple of Khnum is an ancient site in Esna, dedicated to the god Khnum and other deities. The temple features a Roman hall with numerous columns and vibrant carved hieroglyphics. Although small, the temple boasts stunning colors and intricate carvings that make it worth a visit. Visitors can opt to admire the exterior for free or purchase tickets for a closer look at the vibrant interior.
The temple of Khnum at Esna also known as the temple of Esna, was dedicated to the god Khnum. It is an incredible well preserve temple, remarkable for the beautiful carvings on the walls, columns and ceiling. It was built of red sandstone, and its portico consisted of six rows of four columns each, with a total of 24 beautiful columns, each with a different lotus-leaf capital. The temple still conserves vibrant colors, particularly in the column shafts and capitals. It’s walls are adorned with images of Roman emperors making offerings to Egyptian gods. The temple contains very late hieroglyphic inscription, dating from the reign of Decius (249–251 CE). The temple of Khnum or Esna conveys a sense of the importance which the Ancient Egyptians placed upon their places of worship. You can not visit this temple and not be mesmerized by the carving on the walls and columns, but particularly those on the ceiling. One can spend hours enjoying and admiring the craftsmanship of every inch of this well preserved temple. Currently (2025) the temple is being renovated by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities with the help of the German University of Tubingen.

A spectacular Egyptian monument which stands proud against the mountains. Its size is mesmerising especially given how old it is and the detail of the architecture.

The best preserved colours I have seen in an Egyptian temple. Crazy to think about the fact that they were painted thousands of years ago.

Saw this in the evening so the whole place was illuminated. Amazing place but be aware of the crowds. There were over 30 cruise boats which arrived at the same time so the place was packed! Still definitely worth a visit.

One of most beautiful, less visited and well decorated temples in Egypt. It is in town of Esna between Aswan and luxor. I was surprised to see coloured images of all ZODIACS on the roof. From aquarius, aries, leo, scorpio all 12 Zodiacs on the roof in that serial order.AWESOME. I had never realised that ZODIACS were that old
Nikhil A — Google review
The Temple of Khnum is a magnificent ancient Egyptian temple located in the town of Esna, on the west of the Nile River, about 55 kilometers (34 miles) south of Luxor. Due to centuries of Nile flooding and accumulated sediment, the temple currently sits in a pit several meters below the modern street level of Esna. It is a frequent stop on Nile River cruise itineraries between Luxor and Aswan.

The Edfu Temple of Horus is a well-preserved Ptolemaic temple dedicated to the falcon god Horus. It features bas relief sculptures, a granite shrine, and a statue of Horus. The temple is part of the Karnak Temple Complex, which also includes the temples of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. The complex is known for its stunning beauty and historical significance as one of Egypt's most visited sites.
The Edfu Temple is one of the most impressive temples we visited in Egypt. It’s dedicated to Horus and feels incredibly grand the moment you walk in. The massive entrance, tall columns, and detailed carvings really show how well-preserved it is. You can still see a lot of the original wall reliefs and hieroglyphs, and it gives a great sense of how majestic ancient Egyptian temples once were. Definitely get a guide to listen to all the history. It’s fascinating!
Paulomi R — Google review
Edfu Temple is incredibly well preserved and definitely worth a stop between Luxor and Aswan. Having a guide is highly recommende; ours explained the hieroglyphics and stories behind the walls, which gave the whole visit so much more meaning and depth. When we visited, they were also cleaning the carvings using only water, which was fascinating to watch; you could actually see the colors and details coming back to life. The visit itself is quite quick, but very impressive and full of history.
Marilena K — Google review
We reached Edfu at dawn, sailing through a thin layer of mist on the Nile. By 6:30 a.m., our cruise had docked, and horse carriages were waiting at the port. The town was still half asleep — only the rhythmic sound of hooves breaking the morning silence. Within ten minutes, we reached the Temple of Horus, just as the gates opened. Our guide, Ahmed Zenin, made the visit truly special. His father is the temple’s director, and his storytelling made history come alive. Built more than 2,000 years ago in the Ptolemaic period, this temple is dedicated to Horus, the falcon-headed god who avenged his father Osiris. The giant pylons, flawless hieroglyphs, and the dark inner sanctum still hold a mysterious calm — as if Horus himself watches over the place. Ahmed showed us carvings of ancient rituals and even handed me a small “ankh,” the key of life. Hard to believe the temple remained buried under desert sand for centuries, which is why it’s so well-preserved today. If you visit early, you’ll hear only the echoes of your footsteps — and maybe, the whispers of the gods.

The Temple of Edfu, dedicated to the falcon god Horus, is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. Built during the Ptolemaic period, it features an impressive entrance pylon decorated with scenes of Horus defeating his enemies. Inside, a grand courtyard leads to hypostyle halls filled with detailed reliefs describing myths, rituals, and the famous battle between Horus and Seth. The inner sanctuary still holds a replica of the sacred barque used in ceremonies. Its massive walls, shadowed corridors, and vivid inscriptions offer an exceptional glimpse into ancient religious life and architectural grandeur.

Edfu Temple is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, dedicated to the falcon god Horus and filled with towering pylons and beautifully detailed reliefs. We visited in the early morning, arriving by horse carriage, which gave the whole experience a charming, old-world feeling as the town slowly woke up. Inside, the halls and carvings are remarkably intact and look stunning in the soft morning light. A grand and atmospheric highlight along the Nile cruise.
Antony L — Google review
What a grandeur looking temple! We came here at Edfu temple right at the crack of dawn by a horse carriage. The entrance is a bit confusing and we couldn’t find our guide at one point because you have to walk through the valley of souvenirs shops. (They were closed at that time). Anyways when we saw the temple as we walked in we were marveled by how the early morning sun lit up the front of this huge temple. Temple has an interesting history and through out the temple you will find inscriptions of the fight between Horus and Seth. I loved how the pillar is decorated with flower shape at the top. This temple was buried when a massive flood came and covered this whole region. That is why it is preserved so well to date. Come early. Enjoy ! 😊

Kom Ombo Temple, located on the riverbank between Edfu and Aswan, is a remarkable stop for Nile cruises and a major attraction in Aswan. This Ptolemaic-era temple stands out for its unique double structure dedicated to two gods: Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris (Horus), the falcon god. What makes it even more special is that it houses mummified sacred crocodiles.
A beautiful temple next to the Nile river. We visited the temple in the evening and it was breathtaking. The temple is divided into two sections for two different Egyption gods. There is also a museum showcasing the mummification of crocidiles during that period. Kom Ombo Temple is a must see. Please ensure you have a guide with you to explain the wonderful and rich history of the temple.

Nice temple! Really breathtaking at night with all the lights the the proximity to the Nile. Very open and lots of heiroglyphs to see. Also a pretty cool Roman well. The crocodile mummy museum was pretty interesting which is right next door.

The Kom Ombo Temple, located on a scenic bend of the Nile, is unique in Egypt because it is dedicated to two deities: Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus the Elder, the falcon god. Built during the Ptolemaic period, the temple features a perfectly symmetrical layout with twin entrances, halls, and sanctuaries for each god. Its walls display detailed reliefs, including famous medical scenes depicting surgical instruments and treatments. Nearby, a small museum exhibits mummified crocodiles found in the area. Though partly ruined, Kom Ombo still impresses visitors with its harmonious design, riverfront setting, and rich blend of Egyptian and Greco-Roman influences.

Beautiful temple filled with many wonders. An amazing description of the surgical instruments they used which were amazingly similar to our own, and mummified crocodiles at the end. Worth seeing. Bring a guide.

Kom Ombo Temple is truly unique, dedicated to two gods and beautifully located right beside the Nile. We visited at night, which gave the entire complex a mysterious atmosphere—perfect timing since it happened to be Halloween. We even dressed up on our river cruise before exploring the temple, making the visit fun and unforgettable. The dual layout and detailed carvings are fascinating under the evening lights, and the small crocodile-mummy museum adds an extra layer of history. A memorable stop along the Nile.

That's a fantastic choice! The Kom Ombo Temple is one of the most unique and beautiful sites in Upper Egypt, often visited as part of a Nile cruise. The most distinguishing feature of Kom Ombo is its double design. It is perfectly symmetrical along its main axis, with two complete sets of courts, halls, and sanctuaries, dedicated to two different triads of gods. Location: Situated right on the Nile River, about 48 kilometers (30 miles) north of Aswan. Its location on a high hill makes for excellent views, especially at sunset.
Remon M — Google review
The journey starts by boat, which some beautiful views of the surrounding areas. The temple is interesting and can be viewed or experienced in a few hours. There are information posters to guide you along the way. A cafe and washroom services are available. A good experience.
Ruckshani R — Google review
Kom Ombo is the only twin temple dedicated to two totally different gods: the falcon and the crocodile. It’s like the ancient Egyptians couldn’t agree on who to worship, so they just split the building down the middle and called it a day. Because of flooding and erosion, the front portion collapsed ages ago leaving the temple a little lopsided but still incredibly interesting. The carvings on the wall are carved out, not in. It’s amazing.
