The National Museum of Bardo, located in Tunis, Tunisia, is a must-visit for enthusiasts of ancient art and history. It houses a remarkable collection of Roman mosaics and marble statues from Carthage and other archaeological sites across Tunisia. The museum's palatial setting showcases intricate mosaics depicting daily life, mythology, and Roman history on its expansive walls.
High standard museum with an excellent array of art on display. This museum is so tastefully decorated and well laid out. Vibrant mosaics with beautiful colours. The museum is reasonably sized well laid out so it doesn’t feel crowded. There is so much to see here. One of the best museums I have visited. Security is good and staff are professional. You will have leave rucksacks or larger bags at reception as you are not allowed to take them into the exhibition halls. There are toilet facilities and a large car park on site. Probably the number one place to visit in Tunis. They also have to cool “Salammbo exhibition” on display until 22/01/2025. Affordable entry price.

Bardo is the biggest and most important museum in Tunisia. It features the points about the history of Tunisia, focusing on the Roman times and the transition to an Islamic state. There is nothing about the contemporary history of the country. There are a lot of chambers and you get the information in Arabic, French and English. A couple of hours is enough to explore the building.
Reza N — Google review
I wasn’t really interested in museums but my friend brought me here and I was honestly amazed once I stepped inside. Everywhere you look, it’s covered in mosaics that really capture the Arab spirit and that’s when I realized this is an absolute must-see in Tunisia. After your visit, make sure to stop by the outdoor cafe. There are couches where you can sit back, relax and enjoy some tea and sweets. The mosaic-style interior there is also beautiful and totally worth checking out.
Lamiya — Google review
Very impressive, one of the biggest collections of antique mosaics in the world. Location is breathtaking, every room offers another miracle of tiles and tiny mosaics. Staff at the information is super friendly and helpful! Unfortunately toilets are dirty and stinky, so is the café (be careful, cats are using the green surrounding as toilets…). Wouldn’t recommend to take a seat and avoid the restrooms at all costs. Allover experience is very good, best go in the early hours to avoid too many people.
Susanne K — Google review
4 stars just because there is not any kind of information or audio guide, the only way is with a private tour. Otherwise the museum is amazing. Great collection of mosaics and other historic artefacts. Lots of police in the surroundings to guarantee safety. Payed around 9TND from city center to the museum.
V. — Google review
The mosaics were especially beautiful. You can easily travel from Barcelona Central Station to the Bardo Museum stop by tram, along with locals, for a half dinar ticket.

Zitouna Mosque

Ez-Zitouna Mosque, the oldest in Tunisia, is a historic site and revered Islamic university with a 141-ft. minaret. Situated in the heart of the Medina, it was originally constructed in the 8th century during the Aghlabid dynasty's rule and has since undergone several expansions, each contributing to its unique architectural style. While visitors cannot enter the mosque itself, they can admire its Moorish, Ottoman, and Andalusian influences from a distance.
Before visiting this beautiful mosque in Tunisia, I recommend doing some research about it. After reading all the information, you won’t see this mosque as just another Big mosque in Tunisia. The history of this mosque and its significance for Tunisia, Africa, and Islam is very important—you will truly enjoy your visit and be amazed by its grandeur and spiritual presence. It is located in the heart of the Medina, as this mosque is indeed the heart of Tunis. ❤️
Gospoda B — Google review
Very very nice mosque in the middle of the busy madinah. A nice spot to pray and relax. The mosque opens it's door at 15:00. You need to dress up as it is holy place, so no shorts or revealing cloths.
Mohammed M — Google review
This is the biggest mosque in the central part of Tunis. It is an active mosque where daily prayers are held. You can enter the courtyard of the mosque but remember to dress decently for the place.
Reza N — Google review
The Zitouna Mosque is the spiritual heart of Tunis — a masterpiece of Islamic architecture and history. Its grand courtyard, graceful columns, and serene atmosphere make it an essential stop in the Medina. Prayer hall is separate for women and men and women have to cover their heads, the courtyards are beautiful
Koel G — Google review
A peaceful place, i am not muslim and I was allowed inside. I was wearing modest clothing. I know the rules : with a longer dress and covered shoulders. I also had my own scarf for my head. I don’t find it discriminating to wear something over my head in respect to their customs (be it religion for them, not only customs). In orthodox churches it is the same and we had clothes provided for men and women who came in tank tops and shorts to visit monasteries so I see absolutely nothing wrong in this.
Alexandra G — Google review
It's both a religious and historical monument located in the heart of the Medina of Tunis. Built in the 8th century, it is one of the oldest and most important mosques in the country. It is renowned for its beautiful architecture, ancient columns, and its large minaret. The prayer hall is reserved exclusively for Muslims, but the courtyard is open to all visitors and tourists, who can admire the beauty and serenity of the place.
Mohamed L — Google review
Don't let yourself convinced to go to the terrace of the cafe. Just dress properly and go inside the mosque. We had an unpleasant incident with one of the guys hunting for tourists, but the local sellers saw what was happening, got me dressed up and took us inside the mosque. It's a very nice mosque and they should allow tourists at all times as long as they behave properly. There is no entrance charge but it's nice to give some change to the beggers. There is a very nice energy all around the mosque.
N P — Google review
Visiting the Zitouna Mosque was an unforgettable experience. The architecture is stunning, with peaceful courtyards filled with soft light. Even though the area outside is busy, inside it feels calm and almost timeless. I walked around slowly, admiring the elegant arches and ancient columns. The atmosphere made me feel connected to centuries of history. People inside were respectful and quiet, adding to the serenity. It’s a place that makes you pause and breathe. Truly a must-see in the Medina.

Ennejma Ezzahra Palace, also known as Sparkling Star, is a stunning testament to the love of Arabic culture by its former owner, Rodolphe d'Erlanger. The palace's neo-Moorish architecture beautifully showcases age-old building techniques from Arabia and Andalucia, featuring exquisite arched doorways and intricate artisan wood carvings, plasterwork, and mosaic tiling.
This is an extremely underrated place in Sidi Bou Said!! For 10 dinars you will get the best view in Sidi Bou Said. The museum has been beautifully preserved in its original state, with full furnitures and gorgeous items. You can scan the QR code and read the story behind each room. We highly recommend a visit to this place!
Shiyang C — Google review
Magnificent palace. I am so glad i visited. Entrance is 10 dinars so very affordable. It is beautiful and has a lovely garder to sit and rest. Actually 2 gardens. The house inside is like a fairy tale. The furniture is authentic to the owner. Every room has a style and story and the museum for music is gorgeous. Highly recommend if you are in sidi bu said.

I honestly regretted coming to Tunisia without doing any research beforehand. Luckily, my history-loving friend brought me here and I’m so glad I didn’t miss it. The museum is filled with fascinating historical collections and I was fortunate enough to be inside when one of the staff kindly explained some of them to us. Not only is the interior impressive but the courtyard is breathtaking as well with unforgettable views overlooking the sea. What made the visit even more special was that there were almost no tourists so I could really take my time exploring.
Lamiya — Google review
This palace complex is probably one of the underrated places in Sidi Bou Said. It covers a huge area with lots of gardens, chamber and a main palace. You can step into the life of the nobility of the area in the 19th century in the palace. The upper part is a small museum of musical instrument, mostly of the period when the baron of the house lived. He is actually buried in one of the gardens of the complex. The place was exceptionally quiet and not many people were there when I visited.
Reza N — Google review
You must go and see this maison constructed in the period that Túnez was under french control, the Barón Rudolf D Erlanger, musician that study the music of Túnez
Jose G — Google review
So beautiful! Totally worths a visit. Only 10 dinar for entry...also called Barons palace which confused me little:) but its the same place...
Livie G — Google review
Quite modest for a palace. Opening hours incorrect on Google maps. It closes at 5pm, not 3.30pm, on Tue (Oct 2025), when i visited. Entrance easy to miss, even taxi driver haven't heard of it. At the entrance, it's stated as "House of Baron R. D'Erlanger" 😅 See pics of entrance. Entry 10TD is too expensive for what it is. 5td is more appropriate 😅 Can skip IMO.

The Antoninus Baths in Carthage, Tunisia are a significant historical site dating back to the 2nd century. The complex is part of an archaeological park and is one of five Roman ruin sites worth exploring in the area. Consider purchasing a combination ticket that includes all ten historic sights in Carthage for a reasonable price. The Antoninus Baths are particularly impressive as they are the largest Roman baths outside of Rome.
Visiting the Baths of Antonius was an absolute dream come true for me! ✨ Ever since I was a child, I wanted to see the remains of ancient Carthage, and standing here, surrounded by history, felt surreal. The ruins are massive, and you can still imagine the grandeur of what once was one of the largest bath complexes in the Roman Empire. Walking among the columns, archways, and stone foundations, I couldn’t help but think about the lives of the people who gathered here centuries ago. 🏛️🌊 What impressed me most was the location — right on the coast, with the sparkling Mediterranean as a backdrop. The views are breathtaking, and it gives the whole site a sense of timeless beauty. The area is well maintained, with clear paths and signs that help you understand the history without overwhelming you. For me, this wasn’t just sightseeing, it was fulfilling a lifelong wish. ❤️ If you’ve ever dreamed of connecting with ancient history, this is the place. Standing there, I felt the weight of civilizations, the clash of Rome and Carthage, and the endurance of culture through ruins. Truly unforgettable, and worth every moment!

First things first: you buy one ticket which is valid for many spots! At least 50% of them are quite wild and less managed. This spot is one less highlights! Especially the baths! Definitely worth the visit!

Part of the route of sites and one of the most beautiful as it is by the sea. We went during extreme heat so at 8:30 am was already hot but enjoyable as long as you are interested. It is more like the kind of attraction you go on your own and explore as there were few information points. The ticket works for all the sites so its important to keep it as they stamp in each place that makes it very easy (12 TND)

Large site .Remains of the basement level of the baths, showing the amazing engineering of Roman "underfloor heating" and thermal ducting. marble pillars from different regions and colours.. Visited as part of a small group tour so had our tour leader to explain what we were seeing, otherwise one may need to read a guide book to fully appreciate.

Of all the places at the ancient city of Carthago, this is the best preserved and you can see the most over here. Generally speaking, it’s a bit disappointing since there aren’t any explanations anywhere but the ticket for everything is just 12 TND which is really fair

During our MSC cruise, we joined a pre-booked excursion to the Antonine Baths in Carthage, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of the trip. The transfer from the port was smooth, with a very comfortable bus, and from the start our guide impressed us—his explanations were clear, full of passion, and made history feel alive. Walking through the massive ruins of the Antonine Baths was breathtaking. Even in their current state, the columns, arches, and underground passages reflect the grandeur of Roman engineering. Standing there with the Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop, I could almost picture how Romans enjoyed this place two thousand years ago. It’s not just a historical site—it’s a journey through time. If you’re visiting Carthage, especially by cruise, this excursion is absolutely worth it.

Outstanding hot spring. I visited with my partner and mother in January, and it was quite busy. The heat makes it possible to swim in the sea, even in winter. When the waves come in, the water feels cold, but the hot water coming from the mountain can be quite hot, especially on the rocks. There is also a small stream where there are rocks to put your feet. But, beware! The water is 60 degrees and will burn you if you make direct contact. Nevertheless, it's a great place to spend the afternoon.
Luke S — Google review
Nice, but really tiny spot to bath. Most facilities was under construction, so noise wasn’t pleasant, but I think it’s temporary
Michał S — Google review
A beautiful place to visit with family, great view. I recommend it.
Yassine N — Google review
The place is free and taken care of, but to be honest, hard to bath or swim in. Upstairs the water is too hot, you can bearly soak your feet, and downstairs, while you could swim, this is already sea water, thus salty, and no shower. I saw a woman soaking downstairs, the waves and sea rocks made it hard for her, in my opinion, to be in the water of "correct" temperature.
Marcin G — Google review
Amazing hot spring. You can bath in the see when hot water get mixed with cold see water. Be careful not to expose directly to hot water coz it’s around 59 c

Uthina Archaeological Site

This archaeological site is my favourite historical landmark in Tunisia. It is a gem and doesn’t seem to be as popular as other sites. The intimacy of the place is rather unique. There is a wonderful echo when you speak in the middle of the arena. The acoustics is really great. There are a number of buildings/structures on site starting with the newish exhibition hall/reception followed by the amphitheatre. You will probably need a minimum of 90 to 120 minutes to explore here. There is free and plenty parking. Toilet facilities are next to the car park. Good shoes might be necessary. There is good security on site. Oudna is about 45 minutes away from Tunis by car.
Legends L — Google review
This place is really lovely to visit, with loads to see. There are a few other spots nearby that are worth checking out too. You could easily spend most of the day wandering around. It's just a bit of a shame there aren't more info boards with some background on the history.
Phillip — Google review
It was a public holiday when I visited and both Google and my hotel warned it could be closed. The reception didn't pick up the phone.... but it was open! Only 6 other people there. This is a large site and involves a lot of walking, be warned if you are visiting on a hot day. There is a man selling cold drinks at the entrance to the Capitol. To me the highlight was the underground areas of both the amphitheatre and the public baths. Neither were signed and took a little bit of finding, but underground is remarkably well preserved.

Uthina, It is an ancient Roman city located in the north of Tunisia, about 30 km from the capital Tunis. Its history dates back to the 2nd century BC and was an important settlement during the Roman period. Uthina was founded in the 2nd or 1st century BC during the Roman Empire's rule in North Africa. The city developed rapidly thanks to its fertile agricultural lands and strategic location. It was an important agricultural and commercial center in the Roman province of Africa (Africa Proconsularis). Rich villas, temples, theaters, baths and structures such as aqueducts were built. It is especially famous for its villas decorated with mosaics. Today, Uthina is visited as an archaeological site and is protected as one of the important historical heritages of Tunisia.
Mazhar A — Google review
There is so much here, on a large site, with a big visitor reception 👌. A lot of the original mosaics were lifted and moved to the Bardo, but still loads of interesting stuff to see. Work is still ongoing. Small coliseum, town capitol, small town baths with various residences, allow a couple of hours 👍

Beautiful site large, which will easily take a couple of hours to explore. Entry is 8 Dinar and a steal at half the price. I was here in spring, and it's situated amongst wildflowers in bloom. It would be a fantastic site regardless, but what a bonus.

A pleasant site to visit. It's a little far from the city, but well worth a visit. The area is medium maintained and you can still see some mosaics on the floor. I spent about 2h30 to 3h there.

A big archaeological site to see a Roman city founded about 2000 years ago…the area is a very fertile area about 40 miles south west of Carthage…the site is not well preserved by the government, no one work there just a ticket guy …no guides no shop to buy souvenirs …when I pass everything was closed I don’t know why …
Bassem B — Google review
Large archeological site about 90 minutes drive from Tunis or Hammamet. Probably will spend about 2 hours to walk around the site . We got there on a rainy winter say day and there was no one else except the ticket guy and a guide on demand ( you have to pay extra for the guide). Ticket is 7 D pp plus 1 D for the DSLR camera ( this is standard in all monuments in Tunis). Clean toilets on site with a small shop to buy souvenirs. Closest village is 15 minutes drive.

Unique site situated in Zaghouan. Very smart how it was built, overlooking rolling hills and at the foot of the mountains. It is a place frequented by locals and ideal for picnics or some time to chill. You can also go walking here with incredible views of undulating landscape. In terms of this being a tourist attraction, it is worth visiting however don’t go out of your way unless you are en route through the area. The temple is about 30 minutes from the Roman-Berber ancient city of Oudna, my favourite archaeological site in Tunisia thus far. There is free parking, free entry and basic sanitary facilities. There is a cafe close by. If relying on louage, you will have a long walk from the town centre to reach here. Roads are in decent condition.

The Water Temple in Zaghouan (معبد المياه بزغوان) is a remarkable historical site with ancient Roman origins, built as part of an extensive aqueduct system that once supplied water to Carthage. The site is serene and surrounded by natural beauty, including scenic views of the nearby mountains. The Roman architecture is well-preserved, making it a fascinating place for history enthusiasts. The peaceful environment offers a nice escape from more crowded tourist areas, and it’s an ideal spot for photography or a quiet moment of reflection. However, the site lacks detailed on-site information, so prior knowledge or a guide is recommended to fully appreciate the historical significance of the temple. Although it is somewhat remote, with basic facilities, the unique blend of history and natural beauty makes it worth the trip for those exploring Tunisia’s cultural heritage and one of the great things about this site is that it’s free to visit, making it accessible to all visitors.

Amusement park with an ancient Carthage theme featuring various rides & shows & an aqua playground.
By booking online you can save a few dinars. Carthage Land Hammamet is by far the best theme park in Tunesia. Elaborate theming, decent attractions, friendly staff. It's good to see a theme park of this level in Northern Africa 🙏

The place was extremely crowded during my visit, which made the overall experience less enjoyable. While it’s clear that it's a popular destination, the sheer number of people made it difficult to move around comfortably or fully appreciate the atmosphere. Wait times were long, personal space was limited, and it was a bit overwhelming at times.

I've been to carthageland twice once in the summer (August) and the 2nd time the end of December 2024. There are 3 sections to this themepark the aqua park, carthageland and King kong. Carthageland is a good place to visit with children in the summer because the Aqua park is open, and there are plenty of water slides available for young children and teenagers we spent about 4 hours in this section. We purchased hot food to eat in this section (pizza). we then went over to carthageland, which is the theme park. This is a separate section of the park from aqua land. There are a handful of rides for young children to teenagers. The third area is King Kong, which is a singular ride on the far side of the park which is for older children & teenagers. We all had a really good time, well worth the money. When we visited in December 2024, the Aquapark was closed as it was too cold for it to be open. We attended the theme park and King Kong it was not as fun as when we visited in August. We spent around 2 hours in carthageland and we had been on everything. There were no ques, although there were families in the park. I wouldn't recommend visiting when the Aquapark is closed due to there not being enough rides available. It costs us in the summer to visit all 3 areas of the park around £11.50 per person, which is worth it and is a whole day activity. It costs us less than that in December as we only visited 2 areas of the park. I would recommend visiting in the summer.

Free voucher from our hotel. A very small park. When we went the main rides had strange opening times, e.g the rapids open 10 till 11 then the log flume 11 till 12. There are a few other small rides but these are not that good. You are not allowed to take water into the park and your bags will be searched on entry. Animals are in small enclosures but some good statues of Dinosaurs and French animation characters.

The shop is Really big for the area and has a good selection of products there. The had a bakery there with a memebr of staff workingn it, but there was no bread or croissants, or anything baked! Bit odd that you needed to leave your bag at the front of the store in a basket but wasn't really an issue. Main issues were the staff as each of them I spoke to I found to be a bit unfriendly and almost like what I was asking from them was a chore.

Dar el Bhar "La Medina Hammamet" is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Hammamet's medina, just a short distance from the beautiful beaches. The holiday home offers a unique experience with its stunning sea views and convenient location near local attractions and dining options. Guests can enjoy comfortable accommodations with well-equipped rooms featuring unique decor and essential amenities. The property also boasts a seasonal outdoor pool, shared lounge, and kitchen for added convenience.
This place is freaking amazing! The view blew my mind especially the sunset… It was clean and the host was very responsive and attentive, he even suggested places where we can eat etc. The only negative point is the access to the place, if you have a lot of luggage you will suffer for couple of minutes but its totally worth it!!
Mohamed A — Google review
I reserved by WhatsApp phone messages since they don’t seem to recognize reservation websites. All went well until arrival. The place looked appealing, but the gentleman who showed me around, unshaven, unkempt and smelling of cigarettes, declared that he was only “opening” one bedroom. I told him I had reserved the entire place and at no time did he mention price is dependent on number of guests, and he had not asked. In fact we were two persons and needed two bedrooms. He showed me a room with a bunk bed next to the kitchen and called it a bedroom. I told him that I had no time nor patience to negotiate, repeated that I had reserved the entire house for the price, that the bunk bed “room” was not acceptable as it looked like a converted storage room in the back of the kitchen. Everything went south from there: he became verbally aggressive, told me to take it or leave it, and so I left. A disappointing experience. No place however pretty-looking is worth the uncomfortable feeling that you are being scammed and disrespected. Unfortunately this town suffers from over-tourism. Luckily, Tunisia is awash with beautiful locations. Scratched this one - a tourist trap - off my list.

Dar El Bhar, nestled in the historic center of Hammamet, left me with lasting memories of this picturesque coastal town. This guest house offers a delightful blend of tradition and modernity, all while showcasing stunning views of the sea. Dar El Bhar's location is its biggest asset. Situated between the modern allure of Yasmin Hammamet and the timeless charm of Nabeul, it offers the perfect balance for travelers looking to explore both old and new. The proximity to the sea is unbeatable, allowing you to wake up to the sound of waves and enjoy beautiful sunsets. The rooms in this guest house are cozy and comfortable, each with a unique charm. While they may not be overly luxurious, they provide all the essentials for a pleasant stay. The sea-view rooms are a real treat, offering a sense of tranquility that's hard to find elsewhere. The staff at Dar El Bhar are friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with a warm smile. They can help you plan your day, arrange excursions, or provide recommendations for local dining and activities, making you feel like a welcomed guest. While the guest house offers the basics, it lacks some of the modern amenities you might find in larger hotels. However, this is compensated for by the authentic atmosphere and character of the place. The rooftop

Had a blast staying at Dar el Bhar's place. This treasure is located in the medina of Hammamet, easy access from coffee Sidi Bou Hdid, walkable to attractions and restaurants. The flat was sparkling clean and had all the essentials. Rooms with unique decor and sculptures, kitchen with all items you’d need, the beds were comfy, great shower, the jetted bath was great bonus. There's a gorgeous view of the beach and an amazing rooftop to watch the sunset. Friendly and attentive staff, and the cleaning lady came in the morning and made us a delicious breakfast. It definitely makes the top list of hosts in Hammamet Hilighy!

We visited later February 2023. Only 6 dinars per person to enter. It's nice inside and quite peaceful. There is information posters inside on the places of interest. There is a place to buy a limited number of books to the left as you enter the quadrangle which appeared to be quite interesting. Once inside, You climb up the stairs and walk around the walls to get great views of the surrounding area. Ladies and gent toilets inside the walls by the stairs. Very clean with hand towels and hand driers. It looks as though there is a small refreshment bar at the top of the stairs and to the left, though I assume this is only open during the tourist season.

Exceptional attraction We came across this attraction coincidentally, I surely would've regretted had I not visited this outstanding attraction. I rate this as exceptional, not because it is perfect. Its decoration, landscape and the organisation are just average. However, if we take a step back and think about the concept, idea and background research, thinking and work that went in, I had to give a five star score. The parc has set aside spaces for traditional homestead and demonstrated crafts, sports and wedding ceremony, combined them with the historical theatrical documentary on Tunisian history and eye dazzling laser shows. This is one of the best places in Africa.
Nazim U — Google review
A park that gives a glimpse into the traditional life of Tunisian people, from different daily activities to the animals they kept to the way they wed. There's a traditional dinner included in the program with entertainment and dances from different regions of Tunisia. The night ends with presumably the biggest light-and-sound laser show and theatre in Tunisia which present the history of the country. The laser show was in English, French and German, but took way took long in my opinion, although there were some interesting parts. The park is not wheelchair accessible. There are toilets in several parts of the building. Be warned: The display of traditional wedding may not be for everyone, as there are parts with disrespectful animal treatment. This is the reason why I'm giving 2 stars.

Basins of Aghlabides

The Basins of Aghlabides in Kairouan are an intriguing and somewhat futuristic-looking site located just outside the old town. These 9th-century stone reservoirs were built to supply the town with water and are part of a combined ticket that includes other nearby attractions. The immense reservoirs, originally numbering 15, were constructed by the Arabs and not the Romans, showcasing impressive engineering without modern machinery.
The Aghlabid pools are considered to be among the most important and famous hydraulic installations in the Islamic world. Free toilet but entrance ticket is required.
Luvfeelin ( — Google review
The Basins of Aghlabides hold immense historical and cultural significance as an incredible feat of engineering from the Islamic Golden Age. These basins were once a symbol of sophistication, ingenuity, and the rich history of Kairouan. However, visiting this site today was a deeply disappointing and heartbreaking experience. The site is in an abandoned state, with no clear maintenance or care taken to preserve its historical value. The lack of cleanliness and the neglect of the surroundings are glaring. The absence of proper signage or informative materials makes it difficult for visitors to understand and appreciate the importance of this historical landmark. As someone who values history and culture, it is painful to see such an essential piece of our heritage left in this condition. The potential for this site to educate, inspire, and attract visitors is enormous, yet it is being squandered due to neglect. I urge those responsible for the preservation of Tunisia’s historical landmarks to take immediate action to restore and maintain this site. The Basins of Aghlabides deserve better care and attention to reflect their importance and to honor the legacy they represent. Until proper restoration and maintenance are carried out, I cannot recommend this site to others. Visiting it in its current state is a profoundly disappointing experience for anyone who values history and heritage.

Nestled within the historic city of Kairouan, the Zaouia of Sidi Sahabi stands as a breathtaking mausoleum dedicated to Abu Zama el-Belaoui, a revered companion of Prophet Muhammad. Known affectionately as "the barber" for his cherished possession of three hairs from the Prophet's beard, this white-domed structure is not only an architectural gem but also a significant spiritual site.
Very peaceful place with beautiful architecture. Resting place of one of the Companions of the Holy Prophet peace be upon Him.

Zaouia of Sidi Sahab is also known as the "Barber's Mosque". It is said that when Muhammad's barber came to Kairouan, he was wearing three tufts of Muhammad's beard. In order to commemorate his contribution, this "Shrine of the Sacred Friend" was built to commemorate him after his death. Originally, it was just a small mausoleum, but it was gradually expanded to include a Koran school and a mosque. When we visited, we happened to see two couples holding their weddings. The scene was so lively!

The Great Mosque of Kairouan, also known as the Mosque of Uqba, is a stunning architectural marvel that dates back to the 600s. With its imposing fortress-like walls and distinctive square minaret, this mosque stands as one of North Africa's largest and most significant monuments.
A Must-See for History Lovers! Visited The Great Mosque of Kairouan and was genuinely impressed. The architecture is stunning and the atmosphere is incredibly peaceful. You can really feel the weight of history here—it’s one of the oldest and most important mosques in the Islamic world, and it shows. Even if you’re not deeply religious, the cultural and historical significance makes it well worth the visit. Highly recommended if you’re in Tunisia and want to connect with something truly timeless.

The Great Mosque of Kairouan is one of the most awe-inspiring places in Tunisia — a true masterpiece of early Islamic architecture and spirituality. Built in the 7th century, it’s one of the oldest mosques in the Muslim world, and you can feel its history in every column and arch. The vast courtyard, intricate mihrab, and towering square minaret are breathtaking, especially in the soft afternoon light. Even if you can’t enter the prayer hall, the views from the courtyard and surrounding terraces are stunning. The atmosphere is peaceful, almost timeless — a perfect spot to pause and reflect. Travel tips: Visit early morning or late afternoon for the best light, dress modestly, and take time to explore the medina streets around the mosque for handmade carpets and local pastries.

An amazing place full of history and beauty. The Kairouan Grand Mosque is one of the most important sites in Tunisia and a must-visit for anyone interested in culture and architecture. It’s better to dress modestly — long trousers or a skirt are recommended. Ladies should wear a hijab, but don’t worry if you don’t have one — they provide them for free at the entrance. The atmosphere is peaceful and respectful, and the architecture is truly breathtaking. Tickets are 12 TD per person.

A UNESCO world heritage site, the grand mosque of Kairouan, aka Ukba mosque, was founded more than a millennium ago and has gone through numerous e pensions and renovations. It's minaret at 31 meters tall, is considered oone of the highest in the world. The interior section of the mosque has some 400 pillars built in the architectural style of Roman and Byzantine buildings. You can access the mosque for 12 TND, which gives you access to other places in the city to visit as well. The courtyard is vast and impressive. The prayer hall is only used for praying and cannot be visited by tourists. Consider that it is a sacred site, so modest dressing is necessary. If you are on shorts or sleeveless dresses, gowns are provided by the guides.

One of the holiest mosques in the Islamic world. Wonderful period architecture. From the outside walls this place looks very impressive, inside the walls you are present this serene place where you can sense the peace. Inside the prayer halls, this period building still have old lanterns. There is a small donation to pay to enter the mosque.

Hannibal Park is a vibrant theme park that promises endless fun for visitors of all ages, making it an ideal destination for families. Conveniently located near many hotels, this lively spot features a variety of themed attractions and entertainment options. While some rides may require maintenance—evidenced by the occasional squeak—the overall experience remains enjoyable, especially during less crowded times. The atmosphere at Hannibal Park is reminiscent of American amusement parks, enhanced by the unique touch of Arabic music.
Nice place for spending time, especially with children. Plenty of places to entertain kids and parents, or even couples, to get drink or something to eat. Pictures were taken during Ramadan, that’s why this place looks so empty. I would really recommend to visit.

Hannibal Park is conveniently located within a short walking distance from the marina, making it easily accessible. For what it is—a tourist-focused park—it’s decent. The prices are very reasonable, and the food options are okay. However, some rides are quite outdated, and the process of buying tickets was a bit confusing. It seems to be a popular spot for local youth, which was nice to see, but groups often gathered near the rides. Unfortunately, there was a noticeable bad smell of rotting food from the back areas, and the presence of many stray cats in poor condition was upsetting. Overall, it’s okay for a casual visit but could use some updates and improvements.

Not a must-do, but an okay night out if you’ve got time to fill I visited Hannibal Park during a week in Tunisia. Personally, I wouldn’t say it’s a must-do, especially if you’re only visiting for a short time. It can be fun — especially if you have kids — but overall, it wasn’t the best experience for me. The rides themselves were honestly terrifying, and not in the fun way. I found myself more scared that something would go wrong rather than enjoying the thrill — like safety bars coming loose or the rides failing. On every ride I went on, I genuinely thought I might lose my life, which obviously isn’t the kind of adrenaline rush you want from a theme park! Another thing to mention — as a white, blonde female, I felt really uncomfortable with the amount of unwanted attention. We were followed around the park and even recorded by people while on rides, which made the whole experience feel unsafe. We went after dark, thinking it would be a normal family-friendly evening out, but it was mostly groups of men hanging around and very few families. I later realised that you don’t actually have to pay to enter the park, only for the rides, so a lot of people were just walking around without actually going on anything. On the positive side, the VR area was pretty good (probably the safest part since you’re on solid ground!), and the ladies at the ticket booth were lovely and very helpful — even with the language barrier. Overall, I’d say it was an okay night out if you happen to be nearby and want to do something different, but definitely not a must-visit attraction in Tunisia

DO NOT GO TO THIS PARK! I wish I had read the reviews before. We attended this park on 31/10/25. The first issue was the ride attendant of the roller coaster not listening and charging my son's card twice just because he saw him with his cousin, and assumed as 2 black people were together that my son was paying for her. Then the worst part of our experience at the park which resulted in us leaving was a group of teen boys who we later found our were Algerians according to the staff who apparently could tell that they were not Tunisian, approached my niece and put his phone up her skirt to record (upskirting). I shouted at him and said what are you doing he started to run off and then my son began chasing him but he apparently got out from another exit??? We immediately reported to the security Who took us to the management office where I viewed CCTV of the boy but they could not apparently find any CCTV of the incident just my son running after him. One of the managers said 'Oh, it's just a boy,' to which I replied it's a sexual assault. He asked if we wanted to call the police I asked how long they would take to come but due to the lack of effort from staff and the fact my niece was so upset and wanted to leave we felt like we would be fighting a losing battle and asked for our money back and left the park. Since returning home and now looking at the reviews on this page there is clearly an issue with people feeling unsafe at this park and management and staff do not care and are more interested in collecting money. It is only a matter of time before something more serious happens to someone here and I strongly urge that unless these issues are dealt with then nobody especially with young children should be visiting this establishment.

If you’re from Europe I suggest to you definitely try it. You can enjoy a little unsafe-looking rides that you cannot find in the other place. I tried Evolution ride and if you want to feel nauseous definitely worth it 😂😂😂

Port El Kantaoui

Port El Kantaoui is a tourist-friendly development featuring a boat harbor, waterfront promenades, shops, restaurants, and cafes. While the area can be bustling with people trying to sell goods or offer services like boat trips and photo opportunities with eagles, it's generally worth visiting for a relaxing experience. Additionally, there's an amusement park nearby that appeals to both kids and adults. The marina offers quiet walks and various boat trips such as glass-bottom boats and catamarans.
Excellent area, specially during sunset, it's a masterpiece 😍
Derbal M — Google review
Port El Kantaoui is a perfect place to chill and relax. I The iconic “I Love Sousse” sign is at the entrance of the Port. Across from this cute photo op is a money exchange and a souvenir shop. I noticed how clean and chill the place was—though don’t be surprised if vendors call out to you, urging you to buy trinkets, hop on a boat, or pose with an eagle. This place is basically heaven for cat lovers. Lots of shops , restaurants and cafes.
Ghazala C — Google review
Constructed in 1979 as a holiday resort, Port El Kantaoui is a charming destination on the central Tunisian coast, offering shops, beaches, golf courses, and waterfront restaurants. The marina is the heart of activity, where Mediterranean jetsetters dock their yachts. Its cobblestone streets and Moorish-Andalusian architecture provide a North African vibe in a tourist-friendly setting. However, it was frustrating to be constantly approached by salesmen trying to sell items. While the handcrafted bowls were beautiful, the fake designer products were of poor quality. For a more authentic glimpse of Tunisia, the vibrant port city of Sousse is just a 10-minute taxi ride away.
Dina S — Google review
We visited Port El Kantaoui and took a half-hour trip on a ship. The experience was beautiful and enjoyable, especially for children or anyone boarding a ship for the first time. At first, they mentioned there would be fish to see, but when we reached the middle of the sea, they told us there were no fish that day. The boat was clean, well-maintained, and the atmosphere was relaxing with nice sea views. Overall, I would rate this experience 4 out of 5 and recommend it for families looking for a short and pleasant sea trip.

this my favorite place to be its very chilled and clean and full of nature, you might get annoyed by people calling you to buy from their shops, have a drink. take a a boat trip or take a photo with the eagle but they are friendly and just trying to offer you what they have, and its worth visiting and relaxing, there is also an attraction park near by and it's cool for kids and adults. ill try to bring more photos.

Beautiful place that I would recomend to anyone who enjoy active holiday. Beaches are not excellent but decent, food is different than what we in Europe are used to, but adventure...going to Tunisia means that what ever you do you have to go trips to Sahara and visit sets where Indiana Jones was recorded. Really drive through dines is exceptional. Must seen.

Acqua Palace

Water park
Water & Amusement Parks
Amusement center
Acqua Palace is a fantastic water park for beating the summer heat, offering an expansive outdoor pool and a variety of thrilling water attractions suitable for the whole family. With six large slides, a wave pool that operates every two hours, and a lazy river, there's no shortage of entertainment. The park also features separate slides for young children and offers locker rentals. While it can get crowded on weekends, weekdays are relatively calm.
Very clean place, lots of sunbeds etc. I can't believe the comments about extortionate prices. Not compared to the UK for any festival or sporting event. Pizza from 16 dinar. Large water only 3. UK they would charge 3 or 4 times that!
Trev I — Google review
Really nice place that we enjoyed a lot. Everything was clean, crystal clear water, good safety. All the kids had fun all day. Food was really good but a bit overpriced considering it was self-service. There were soap and lots of showers. Great slides and wonderful wave pool. For the fifth star: the waves should be more often, today it was only 3 times, should be once an hour because it’s great fun. It should also be allowed to swim a little further out! It should be ok to ride the slides alone! I have 3 kids and since they had to go 2 and 2 someone had to wait. It could be open a little longer, maybe until 18.00 at least. But overall, worth a visit!

Absolutely brilliant fun. Best part of our holiday so far! Food was great, staff helpful and friendly. Felt very relaxed.

Excellent fun for the entire family. Lots of variety. Get there when it opens at 9:30. We arrived around 9:45 and had to wait only 5 minutes for tickets. - kids loved the rides - able to use credit card - food is very reasonably priced and lots of variety - facilities were clean (bring own TP if you use it) - downside - lots of people were smoking (not the fault of Aqua Palace) - umbrellas for shade available highly recommend it!
William B — Google review
We had such a fun day! No wait to go in, barely any waiting for the slides. It was on a work day, so it's normal for it to not be packed. Around 2-3pm more kids came in and crowded the place a bit, but it was still doable. The highest slide was closed the entire day, which was a bummer, but there were 3 other ones that were super fun. The place is clean and well maintained. Cannot say anything about the food or drinks as we went for brunch right before this and we weren't hungry the whole day. Only bought a bottle of water inside. They do check for snacks and water at the entrance though.

Great resort for children. My daughter was nearly 4 when we visited last week. A big kids pool, wave pool - wave happens every 3 hours and lazy river we’re enjoyed. Would definitely visit again.

Not much here, popular ride has a long queue, can't take food in. Plus side, the lifeguards are very helpful, watchful and kind. About 6 rides in total. Also too expensive. Should take plenty for half day, we got the in the afternoon and had to pay same as people that paid for full day.

Sights & Landmarks
The Ribat of Sousse, located in the coastal city of Sousse, Tunisia, is a historical fort that dates back to the 8th century and was expanded in 821. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers visitors a glimpse into the region's history and culture. The medina surrounding the Ribat features narrow streets lined with white-washed houses and vibrant markets. The fort itself provides scenic views from its tower and is surrounded by thick fortified walls.
A nice little Islamic fort in the centre of Sousse. As with most of Tunisia the entry fee was very cheap and the views from the tower are great. One word of warning, if you are claustrophobic I don't recommend climbing the tower as it's got very narrow stairs and will be a struggle for bigger people.
Akil M — Google review
worth the visit! beautiful historical landmark, reasonable ticket price (8 TDN for adults), about 30 minutes time needed. the views from the tower are superb.
Marius G — Google review
Arrived at the Ribat early which made ascending the tower less tricky. It's very narrow so when crowdless going up and down with one way traffic is easier. The views from the too are stunning.360' of wonderful Sousse and in particular great views of the nearby grande mosque. Adequate information inside and well maintained this is a must do in Sousse.
Kevin C — Google review
An exceptional heritage gem in the heart of Sousse. The Ribat stands proudly by the sea, echoing the stories of ancient guardians and travelers who once watched over the city’s shores. Its preservation is admirable, blending the charm of antiquity with accessibility for modern visitors. The climb to the tower — though narrow and steep — rewards you with one of the most stunning views in Tunisia. From the medina’s rooftops to the blue horizon, it’s a scene that captures both peace and grandeur. For anyone passionate about history and timeless beauty, the Ribat of Sousse is an unmissable experience.
AYMEN A — Google review
Great unique experience in Sousse close to the beach. Kids tickets again cost 2 dinar and adults 8 dinar. The old defence fortress is maintained well, toilet facilities provided and great views of the Sousse (minus piles of rubbish as your view in some places). Keep in mind to get to the tower you have to climb up a narrow staircase.
Alicja B — Google review
I highly recommend checking this place out. We just returned from our vacation in Tunisia. I definitely recommend historical sites over markets.

Came here to look around. Some good information on robots is on display. Also some nice views from the top of the tower, which has very narrow steps. Other than that there isn’t too much to see but the price is very cheap so it is worth doing.

We have been scammed by one agency - see photos - who provided a very dirty and invivable apartment - fridge not working, TV with cut cables, dirty linen with holes, shaved hair in the room and dirt on the sofas, floor with dried spilled liquid- also the agent was agressive and refused to cancel our stay as we asked. The place is full of sick and deadly cats, garbage everywhere, bed smell is strong and unbearable, the place is unhealthy and can be life threatening to kids and people with immunity issues - please be careful when trying to book a stay in Monastir avoid to book in Residence Kuriat and with Cap Marina Monastir agency.. it was a nightmare for us

Eric H — Google review
stayed there for a month in summer 25. Marina surprised me by quickly answering all questions on booking, etc., all quite efficient. What took us by surprise was the attitude, crawling speed and horrible bureaucracy of the check in process. Endless forms all on paper, officers filling endless books, and this is the 21st century… not a single computer used. 3 officers conducting a boat search, very arrogant, opening cupboards and bags… asking for “presents” in form of whiskey… all this took two and a half hours with drone and sat phone being locked up in the customs office. They kicked out our agent, which was very frustrating as he was the only link to communicate… they dont speak english and we have no french or arabic… horrible experience which i do not think i would want to do again. Checking out was very similar… another shift of police and customs this time, but still two and a half hours… after telling them that we need to get fuel after we are checked out, we were told to go get fuel first, then dock somewhere and only then they will come to do a search and give us clearance… about the marina itself, it is center of life for the town, lots of people walking around and in cafes. A couple of places with beer. Food very very average. Lots of garbich drifting around in the water. Power very week and sometimes unstable, was tripping when i tried to draw 16 amps, only worked on 10. People say Hamamed is better, but i doubt it…

The marina is lovely and even better during the end of December when there are no other tourists around. The water is spectacularly clear and you can see right to the bottom. Watch the fishing boats come in and out with the latest catch

Ribat of Monastir

Mentioned on
+21 other lists
Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
The Ribat of Monastir is a well-preserved 8th-century coastal fort that now houses the Museum of Islamic Art. It was originally built as a fortified Islamic monastery and is considered the first example of a ribat on the African continent. The fortress has historical significance, having been used by soldier monks to pray and fight invaders during the Arab Abbasid dynasty. Over time, it has also served as a filming location for notable productions like Jesus of Nazareth.
100% worth the money spent! 8 dinar for adults and 2 dinar for children. So many alleyway and hidden rooms to discover. Plenty of places to also get away from the sun. The tower at the top gives you great views but be careful the safety barriers on top are missing. Toilet facilities are also provided. Must better than Ribat of Sousse.
Alicja B — Google review
The Ribat of Monastir is a historical site with some notable features, though it has its drawbacks. The entrance fee for adults is 8 Dinars. One of the highlights of visiting the Ribat is that it's great for taking pictures, offering picturesque views of the surrounding area. Many visitors also appreciate looking at the view from the structure. The beautiful courtyard provides a pleasant and photogenic space to explore. However, it's important to be aware that the Ribat has tight and narrow spaces. This can be dangerous, especially when climbing up the stairs where you might encounter other people coming in the opposite direction. Additionally, if you're tall, be careful of head height in some areas. For those interested in museums, the museum within the Ribat is very small and boring. On a practical note, the Ribat has toilet facilities. In summary: The Ribat of Monastir offers some lovely views and photo opportunities, particularly within its beautiful courtyard. However, visitors should be mindful of the potentially dangerous tight spaces and low head heights. The museum on-site is unlikely to be a highlight.

A castle by the sea. Big walls, gates, a sea gate .With a tower that, from the top of a narrow winding stair ,affords an amazing view. Cramped at the top , beware girls taking selfies and blocking the view. Nice and clean. Lots of levels, steps up to the fire step ,lookout areas ,guardrooms . Narrow steps ,no handrails and some very dark areas (Great fun if you do not worry about H and S) The Monty Python "Life of Brian" was filmed in it's entirety ,on location ,in this castle. What's not to like, castle ,sea ,steps ,towers big courtyard. Add imagination ,sit and contemplate. Visited as part of countrywide group tour so time limited, I could have stayed half a day!
Musicians M — Google review
It’s not exceptional in every way, but the view more than makes up for it. You’ll get an incredible panorama stretching over the sea and the city — especially at sunrise or sunset, the light softens the harsh edges of the urban landscape and the water glows. The setting is peaceful, perfect for moments when you just want to sit back, breathe, and take it all in. The facilities aren’t luxurious or overly fancy, and you won’t find anything wildly unique here, but for the price and ambiance, it delivers well. If you value scenery and a calm vibe over high-end amenities, this is worth a stop.
Aleen — Google review
This place is a gem. Not only for the historical importance and value of the ruins and how well preserved it is but because of the outstanding views it offers of Monastir. The climb up to the tower and the views from the top itself are spectacular. Remarkable value for this historical marvel...if you have seen the Ribat of Sousse this place will be familiar, but is much bigger and has more to offer....
Kevin C — Google review
Impressive fortress, staff were all very friendly and welcoming, although not much to do other than walk round inside and visit the small museum where there are a few artifacts. Ok for kids but our DO (9yo) got bored very quickly. The main tower offers very impressive views of Monastir and the local beach. Tower is a winding small passage which is not suitable for those with limited mobility. Over all, 4 stars as it really is an impressive monument, but not necessary to spend a lot of time at it. Cost was 18 TND for 2 adults and 1 child (~£4.55). Toilets were clean. Didnt get to the cafe although there apparently is one!
Peter C — Google review
Very nice big castle, historical one including very huge tour accessible all the days, including roman théâtre, high Tour and museum
Wael A — Google review
This Ribat is a wonderful place to visit. It is bigger than that in Sousse but not as preserved as the latter. You can spend a considerable time here if you take your time to explore this wonderful place. There is a small museum inside. The inner courtyard is fairly huge. Beautiful views overlooking the sea and the city. Stairs to the top can be a bit tight if there is someone heading in the opposite direction. Please mind your head in the reception area if you are over 5ft7 as the arch is fairly low. There are toilet facilities, free parking and security on site.
