The Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is a 11595 hectare reserve located in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The reserve has three different hiking trails, and is home to a variety of wildlife including monkeys, zebras, buffalo and antelope. The entrance fee plus car fee payable at the gate via card makes it accessible to all, and there are wheelchair-friendly paths.
Enjoyed my visit today at Suikerbosrand nature reserve.Did the 11.5km hike and the views were spectacular and amazing.Vehicles are parked at a lovely picnic area.Safe and secure environment for all and the trails were marked out,so was able to navigate pretty easily.A wonderful experience.Be sure to carry enough rehydration fluids and snacks as it can get pretty hot up in the mountains and have to keep yourself well hydrated.Invest in comfortable hiking boots,as your feet will thank you.Overall an amazing experience.

We enjoyed the challenge Did the 10km hike Wasn't the easiest hike, gives you a sense of achievement. Paths well marked mostly clean Needs a little maintenance in sections. Don't underestimate the downhills ...
Jackie C — Google review
A great hiking/biking trail with some of the best views. It is a well maintained nature reserve that offers unforgettable memories. The trails are properly marked and the place is very clean. They open very early, weekday visiting hours are 7:00 to 16:00 and 18:00 on weekends. 3 trails 1. Bokmakierie trail which has 3 options 10km and 11,5km & 2. Cheater trail, which is 4,5km 3. 17km

Big skies, long loops, and the feeling you’ve actually left the city. We did one of the shorter circular hikes and still got broad grassland views, antelope sightings, and that quiet you only get when the road noise drops away. Trails are well marked and the gradients are honest but manageable. Take plenty of water, a hat, and decent shoes—there’s limited shade on the ridges. Facilities at the gates are basic but fine. If you like the idea of a “proper” hike without a long drive, this is an easy yes.

Provincial government is not fulfilling their mandate: - Day trails are badly eroded. - Overnight trails are closed. - Eland overnight hut fire damaged. - Holhoek picnic site is closed. - Ouhout Group Camp is closed. - Tourist Route road tar is not maintained, roadside grass not cut creating dangerous bends especially for cyclists. - Paved paths are overgrown and not maintained. - Water feature not working. - Medicinal garden overgrown, signage missing. - Educational dioramas in main building closed and damaged by water leaks. - fence in terrible condition, game regularly gets out and causes accidents. - Western gate burnt down (were firebreaks in place?) - Protea Hotel and pool closed. - Kareekloof resort and pools closed. - firebreaks never completed on time resulting in unplanned fires. NEVERTHELESS the scenery is still magnificent and there are still some animals to be seen. Renovation of Kiepersol Chalets and toilets in parking area said to be almost complete.

We enjoyed a 11.5km hike which took us 3:30mins. The reserve opens a 7am with a Card only system. No cash is accepted. The pathways are marked out but they can cut some of the bush , although there is alot of clear views. We didnt see any animals along the path but did see some animal dung. The toilets were clean and the place is well kept. The museum is a nice walk for those who want to reminisce.
Megan S — Google review
Enjoyed the 10,8km hike. Nature at its best , quite a moderate hike with challenging elevations. Stuff so friendly and give best advices. Only did the hike and could not explore other things in the nature reserve.
Matlou N — Google review
It was a beautiful weekend. Went on a 10km hike with my friends. The trail? doable but the steepness? One really needs good hiking shoes, a walking stick, a hat, enough water & sunscreen. 100% enjoyed it.

The world's largest, this vast 2-billion-year-old impact crater includes 4 towns & a granite dome.
Took a tour with a local guide. Stunning and informative. A very special place. Unfortunately, there is no public visitors centre or information centre. The UNESCO site represents a very small area of this huge geological feature, and seems to be located mostly on private properties

James was absolutely lovely. He made our stay here absolutely phenomenal. We cannot wait to come back again. My 4 year old son loved it and so did my 7month old. Elizabeth was also fantastic. Thank you to everyone for the fantastic experience and waking up to the sounds of lions roaring is out of this world!
TashiBumz — Google review
The road that turns to entrance ofboskoppie lion reserve is a dirt road for about 2km. Its abit bumpy. The lions Tigers leopards ect.. are all well fed and looked after. The guide innocent was very friendly and explained everything very well. Wear comfortable takkies because it's a walking tour. U can't take prams on tour so if u gt very small babies take a baby carrier. Really enjoyed interacting with baby cubs. All in all a good experience
Naaz K — Google review
The chalet was sub standard. The hot plate was old and dirty. The cold water tap was lose and there was no soap or shower gel in the bathroom. They forgot to switch on the geyser thus we had to shower in cold water. It is really not worth the price I won’t recommend the place to my friends
Jane M — Google review
Was an AMAZING getaway! Saw the most beautiful Tigers and big lions, and got to bottle feed the cubs!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Boskoppie is definitely a place to add to your bucket list. Elizabeth the manager was super friendly & our amazing tour gide was Moekie!

Beautiful experience. Worth visiting with family. Very informative
Hu E — Google review
I honestly question the ethical aspects of this reserve. I find breeding animals in captivity for tourism and entertainment truly heartbreaking. I believe they take good care of the wild cats, but I think it's more about the financial gain and not for giving these cats the quality of life they deserve. They are ment to hunt and be wild, not to be observed in enclosures by tourist wanting to update their social media page with pictures of baby tigers. I was part of a tour groups and I honestly just felt upset leaving boskoppie after seeing how people didn't find it slightly unethical.
Nellje V — Google review
This was a highly satisfactory experience. The customer service was exceptional, and the staff were extremely helpful and courteous. The location may present some logistical challenges if one's vehicle is not well-suited for the terrain.

Refined hotel with a casino & a spa, plus dining, 3 cocktail bars & an outdoor pool.
Would like to give a big thanks to the whole team at Avani, Sharlene, Chef Siya for all your support and efforts in our event and then to Mr Letsoso and Willem for accommodating us over the 2 days, I really must say that once we resolve everything you guys really came out on top and gave us a memorable time, the whole team really appreciated the hospitality. My room was lovely and beautifully clean, really everything was amazing. I can’t wait to be back

Great location in Maseru. Beautiful scenery of Maseru and the mountains. Rooms have a good feel and well proportioned. Shower, bath and toilet was clean and well accessible. Food menu for room service and at the restaurant Nala, is a bit limited. Breakfast, however, was great with a hot station, fresh fruits, yogurts ands breads. It was overall a wonderful stay.
Shakeel M — Google review
The hotel is ancient. Everything in the room is incredibly worn out and years past needing a renovation. Only one free plug point without unplugging the lights. The weirdest thing was the bathroom lights can only be controlled from the very front of the room. Otherwise, the bed, shower, hot water, climate control, etc. was all ok, neither really bad, but nothing particularly good either. Probably the best thing I liked was having the balcony looking out over the city and mountains with its high up location. Service was fine, check in was fast, mealtimes can be a little chaotic trying to flag down for some coffee or something, or humorously enough, keeping someone from taking your table at breakfast. The food was about average, for the sake of time I just did the buffets and you get chicken, rice, vegetables, some type of noodles, pretty basic fare. Nothing terribly good quality, nothing really that bad, either. There’s a pool area but didn’t seem like anyone uses it. Gym was surprisingly large with full equipment of a real gym. There’s a casino with mainly slot machines, and a few other drinking/eating options. I heard Avani took this over pretty recently, so maybe they will start bringing the rooms up to date…but let’s see.
Rahul P — Google review
Exceptional service, delicious food, and breathtaking views! 👌🏼👌🏼 I had an amazing stay at Avani Hotel and Casino. The hotel offers several dining options, and every meal was full of flavor with a great variety to choose from. Their buffet breakfasts and dinners were especially enjoyable. During our stay, we also explored nearby attractions; had lunch at Pioneer Mall and visited the famous Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village, just a 37-minute drive away. The rooms were spotless and incredibly comfortable. The view from the pool was simply stunning 🤩. Overall, it was a truly beautiful and memorable experience!
Ntando M — Google review
(Edit: After my original review detailled below. Thank you for your response management. I am aware that you have gym memberships. The time I visited the facility was not during your gym peak hours, and the people I am referring to were not gym members. These people were members of staff. Some of whom I recognized as waiting staff and the real give away was they were changing into or out of their staff uniform. You simply cannot treat a 4 or 5 star hotel facility as a staff facility. That is not the experience that your guests and even those paying your expensive gym membership are investing in. Your facility was smelly, dirty, over-crowded and full of raucous, shrieking, uncouth staff members. This is not acceptable and you should take responsibility for this and rectify the situation, not make excuses.) Original review: I tried to use the sauna during my stay, but the ladies changing room in which it is located was frankly overcrowded, noisy, smelly and squalid, and it turns out these were staff. It seems management allows or is simply ignorant of staff using this tiny facility which consists of just two showers and two short benches. In an age of pandemic there is no way that any protocols are being followed or indeed commonsense and good hygiene practices. If a guest has for instance covid and uses the facility it is going to spread like wild fire in the local community when the staff return home; and vice versa if a staff member has covid or some such it will spread throughout the guest rooms and to the guests' country of origin when the guest returns to both. The facility did not used to be run in such an unprofessional manner and it is wholly unacceptable to charge 4* prices for such a soddy service. The new management needs to be reviewed before they run the hotel into the ground. This is unacceptable.
Marigold B — Google review
The hotel staff are very unprofessional and seem more focused on money than on providing good service and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Brian L — Google review
While the hotel looks good and has a great location, the rooms are not quite as clean as you would expect. And the service is abysmal! I got no information, had to ask everything for my one, got then really rude answers and sometimes not even reliable ones…and the facilities were not even all available, even though one might have booked the hotel thinking of enjoying the pool for example… if you are looking for a pleasant place to stay, you should consider if location is everything or if service, being informed and being able to use what you paid for isn’t more important.
Camilla A — Google review
One very bad thing, they let them smoke in the casino and the whole living area got smell of smoke. Not the best but good choice for staying in Maseru.

Absolutely an amazing place!!!!! Would recommend it to everyone. They are friendly, helpful and go the extra mile to make your experience something you will never forget!! Amazing people, delicious food and incredible interactions with these amazing animals!!

Very bad service. Was there yesterday since it shows 24hours on a Sunday. Waiting infront of the gate for 30mins.finally a bakkie showed up and me and my family were chased away and being told it's private property we can't be there. We drove 180km from Kimberley to go there. We had to go look for another place close to bloem. Maybe we were seen as criminals bcos of our colour
Leocardo A — Google review
The place is great, specially for animal lovers. Perfect for a location event, has play area for kids as well. I didn't like the food prepared for us but that might just be a preference issue. The road going to the place is very bad, people going there would benefit if they use off road cars.
Ditebogo M — Google review
We had the amazing privilege today of a Private Tour around Bagamoya Lion Sanctuary with the owner Botha. An unssuming man with a law degree.. His passion for his animals radiates and soon as you meet him. The Sanctuary is a safe haven for rescued animals, which means it's a NO KILL shelter, he looks after them as though they were his own children, with such passion and enthusiasm. His knowledge about each and every animal is unbelievable. He can tell you before you enter into the cages which animal will take a liking to you and which you might not. His two Cubs that you are allowed to play with I have no words to describe. Well behaved and lil bit naughty but at end of the day just want to be loved. Botha, it was and honour to meet and spend the day with you learning about these animals and I am truly humbled by the work that you and your wife do for them everyday. From the lil Cubs, to the teenagers to the older Lions as well as the Cheethas, Leopardas and Caracals. We cant wait to come and see you guys again with the progress you have made on the bird sanctuary, as well as well as all the other plans you mentioned today to me. My sister was in her element for her birthday and for that I thank you.. I cannot think of another present that will beat this one. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you soon again This is a highly recommended Private tour with a 15/10 from me.... this far outcede my expectations and you can see by the photos.
Greg O — Google review
Would give 0 stars if I could!! Do not recommend!! They are having all their animals seized due to neglect and cruelty!! So disgusting the way you treat animals!! An animal worker was killed by a lion due to neglect and maintenance of the enclosures. This situation was inevitable when you treat animals the way you do!!! How can you leave a tiger so crippled it had to crawl along the ground and now needs surgery to repair the damage from your neglect!! Stop acting the innocent when you know full well the nspca are confiscating all your animals!! It should have been done a long time ago!!
Sian S — Google review
Terrible service. Website says open 24 hours, went there on a Saturday. Gate intercom doesn't work at all, numbers go straight to voicemail.
Michaela D — Google review
Waited at the gate to no answer and it is extremely far to go to wait at a closed gate and no response on calls. What a let down.

Oliewenhuis Art Museum is situated on Grants Hill and housed in a Neo-Dutch-style mansion that served as the residence for the Governor General of the Union of South Africa. It was also used by King George VI and his family during their visit to Bloemfontein. The museum, a branch of the National Museum, features an extensive collection of South African art, including old masters and modern paintings and sculptures.
Very Neat💯 Often, we visit the place for picnics and outdoor functions..one time we decided to tour inside the museum 😅our guide was a sweet & arlet lady throughout the trip💯We discovered that they also accommodate blind or rather let me say visually impaired persons🥹so considerate 🫂I strongly recommend.

Such an amazing piece of art but I can’t believe the restaurant closed down. It’s sad to see how busy the place was about 5 years ago and now people don’t appreciate it as much. Loved the upkeeping of the place and lawns.

What a wonderful art museum close to Naval Hill, Bloemfontein. Old South African masters and contemporary art on exhibition and on sale. Beautiful gardens to wander in with the larger sculptures exhibited there. Only R10 parking fee, entrance for free in May 2025.

Saw a well curated exhibition here a few weeks ago, very knowledgeable and personable young Man TK should us around aswell. Top top experience that I didn't expect. We'll done to the curators and artists exhibiting aswell. Exciting pieces, great works of varying techniques.
Luhle S — Google review
The place is worth visiting. To appreciate the work of others and unwind outside, while enjoying the view of outside sculptures and the feeling of outdoors. The place could really use a restaurant or at least a cafe because, after exploring different parts of the museum personally I was worn out and needed a drink or something sweet to recharge. What I've noticed about the museum is that they give people an opportunity showcase their craft, if that is not the reason then I suppose they can do better because some pieces weren't all that if you understand what I mean. The best highlight for me was the section for blind people, yes if you have a blind friend(s) or a family member who appreciates art, then allow them to tag along! Fyi: there are cats and the ones at the back love attention #smiles

War Museum of the Boer Republics Bloemfontein

War museum
Museums
The War Museum of the Boer Republics in Bloemfontein is a poignant and comprehensive display of the 1899-1902 war. The museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts, photographs, and dioramas that vividly depict the events of the conflict from the perspective of the Boer people. Visitors can explore graphic battle scenes and learn about the brutal struggle through exceptional art collections and exhibitions.
As an Afrikaans South African who has lived in England for almost 30 years, I was delighted and pleased to see how the museum and monument is being maintained. I have visited many times in the past years, having encouraged my children to also keep in touch with this important part of our culture and heritage. It was so uplifting to see the perfectly maintained gardens, the excellent standard of the displays and the clear, tactful descriptions of a heartbreaking historical event that evokes so much emotion. The topic is handled with utmost care and respect, while the sad facts are revealed with sensitivity and a directness that make it easier to comprehend. The overall atmosphere is one of reflection and kindness. On his first visit to South Africa, my British partner of Welsh descent found it a balanced account of the facts, without sugarcoating or unnecessary dwelling on emotion. I particularly love how the past fate of the innocent has become significant in the wider modern context, keeping the story of the women and children of the Boer War alive and relevant. Thank you for maintaining this precious site in such an excellent condition. It is a must-visit for everyone!
Cathy R — Google review
What a surreal experience. The sadness I felt was just something else. My people. 27k people perished during a dark time in our history. The museum looks amazing with the new look. They've done an incredible job. Absolutely 10/10. Clean, safe atmosphere, learning about new artifacts, reading new stories, feeling new emotions every time we visit. Keep doing God's work. Keep their names alive. And a final R.I.P. to the 345 Fourie souls that perished in the concentration camps, and 75 Fourie Souls on the battlefield. We are all a family, in some way or another.
Chene F — Google review
An absolutely heartbreaking experience to see all the names of the people ( mostly women and children) who died in the concentration camps. The reality of it all is just so overwhelming and sad. Grounds and museum and monuments beautifully maintained.
Erma P — Google review
For anyone interested in the Boer War, this is a must! A whole day is need to taking everything that is presented. The facility is extremely neat and maintained, and the displays are excellent. I am sorry I haven't visited the museum before

The exhibitions are not only beautiful and interesting, but very educational as well. 4 hours was not enough to absorb all there is to see and experience. The receptionist is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back..🏛️ Visited on

This is a very good museum with a lot of original exhibits, well designed rooms according to different periods of the war, and prominent people who were involved in those events. I can't say that I enjoyed it as the topic is very sad and hard - I had tears in my eyes for most of the time we were thete, but it is so well designed, presented, and preserved! Visit to this museum was certainly a highlight to our visit to Bloemfontein.
Svetlana A — Google review
Very neat and well kept, from the grass to the top floor. Very reasonable prices too, we payed R50 in total for two pensioners and a adult. Beware that it will be an emotionally moving visit when you realize the scope and horror of the war. It is not a huge museum and you can take everything in under two hours or less. No cameras allowed inside. Bathrooms were neat and clean and there is an elevator, allthoug you would move from one hall to another by stairs.

What an absolutely stunning experience at Tiger canyon from pre check in to leaving the farm. Roger canyon has the most amazing and knowledgeable staff on site always willing to help with something or answer any questions. The rangers Adi and Greg were amazing from the friendly banter between on anther to the knowledge they were able to pass onto us was great. 100% would recommend a visit to this awesome lodge which is doing so much good for conservation with tigers and cheetahs.

This isn’t a zoo—it’s real conservation, done right. You’ll experience it all while enjoying five-star comfort, from the accommodation to the food. It’s true luxury, set in the heart of nature. The highlight? Spending time with two incredible wild cat species. It’s normal to be skeptical—but that changes quickly once you see it for yourself. This is a rare, unforgettable experience.

Unique place - Tigers and cheetahs 17000 hectares for the big cats. Some re-wilding and some rescue/ nurturing effort. The lodge is nice. Very well maintained. Staff is sincere and try their best. Respond well to requests. The guide Edi is knowledgable and patient. We were fortunate to see a hunt by the cheetahs. Spectacular!
Rajeev G — Google review
Wow! What a special place! Greg was the best ranger and really went the extra mile to point out ALL the tigers to us. The 1 on 1 time with the cheetahs was super special! Definitey planning to return for a sleepover in the canyon lodge, which is breathtaking!

Words cannot do justice. We, 2 couples are well travelled are various safari lodges) reserves and this is by far the best experience we have had. Ade is exceptional, so interesting, informative and best of all enthusiastic. Ade being an excellent photographer, will, if possible always locate the vehicle in the very best position. Tigers, cheetah, birds.. don't expect anything else as if anything else is roaming around ( that can't fly) it's eaten, you must consider that the tiger is the pinnacle of the food chain

My time at Tiger Canyon was nothing short of amazing! Kirsty and staff are super friendly and always ready to attend to your every need. The chef/s prepared the most scrumptious meals which I thoroughly enjoyed. Jani was our guide on the game drives, she is incredibly knowledgeable and made our trip unforgettable. The highlight of the trip for me was being able to approach the cheetahs on foot and snap some incredible pictures! Hoping to visit again in the very near future :)

For any nature lover, a visit to Tiger Canyon is a must. It is an exceptionally unique experience being able to view Tigers up close in the wild, together with the fantastic guidance provided by Adi and Daniella. The Cheetah sightings were also wonderful. Adi put in every effort to maximise our photographic experience of the Tigers, Cheetah, bird life, landscapes, insects and every other aspect of Tiger Canyon’s wildlife diversity. The lodge setting, the staff, the service, the food and the friendliness were all superb. This is one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences available in our country.

Tiger Canyon Private Game Resort Tigers in Africa ? How unusual …. These is a reserve with tigers kept in the wild open fields of Africa. The resort is highly private and exclusive … with just three rooms. We enjoyed our three days there. The game drives were excellent. Our guide was Adie … A young man that is extremely well read about tigers and other wild animals. He was so enthusiastic and made each of our game drives so special. We saw a lot tigers … and enjoyed the entire experience. The hospitality at the resort was the best. Warm and welcoming. Excellent food.

Park
Mountain Zebra National Park, established in 1937, was created to protect the natural habitat of the Cape Mountain zebra. The park is home to a variety of wildlife including lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, and rhinos. Visitors can explore the park's paths on foot or by 4X4 and are likely to encounter the majestic Cape Mountain zebra amidst stunning scenery. Accommodation options include cottages and a guest house for those who want to stay overnight.
Come here for the landscape and views. The animals are a bonus. The views and vistas are stunning. Limites selestion of game. Very clean, friendly staff and well run. The roads may be a challange for low sedans. You could do all the roads in the park in one day if you are dedicated. The shop in the main camp has very basic supplies. Best to bring all your own supplies. Overall an enjoyable experience. Traffic is low volume, not crowded at all. Well worth a visit for 2 or 3 days.
Mark C — Google review
Its a lovely park and staff are so friendly but the camping facilities are not so nice. Too little dustbins, one tap for a few campsites, broken equiptment and not always clean. The shop has basic stuff that you may need.
Helga N — Google review
Absolutely LOVED this park for its scenery, unusual birds and many interesting smaller creatures and enjoyable 4x4 routes (which we could do in 2x4 with a strong, high vehicle and good driver). I highly recommend the Cheetah Walk - it is worth double the cost in my opinion and you will be grateful you did it. The pool was clean and the walking trails are great: a shorter flatter 1km trail suitable for most people; and the longer, steeper 2.5km trail that requires general fitness - very well worth it! And a great way to loosen up after many hours siting in a vehicle game driving. The cottage was generally clean, well laid out, spacious. But: there was no cutting board, sharp cutting knife, vegetable peeler, or scissors. The top shelf in the kitchen was very dirty and sticky. Most towel railings and the soap dish had broken off and was not put back up, making things difficult in the bathroom. And 2 toilet rolls for a 6-day stay is insufficient; we twice asked for more toilet paper but were only provided with 1 once and ignored the second time; we just used our own after that. Front desk staff were generally friendly and knowledgeable. The game guides Tumelo and Andrew are FANTASTIC - of the best I've experienced in any game park - keep this up!
Ronel P — Google review
A lovely campsite in a great National Park. Campsites are level with paved areas to pitch your tent or RV. Not all sites have shade, and you have to pick carefully to get the optimal site. Each site have electricity and a water point. Braai stands are supplied. Bathrooms are clean and neat, and cleaned every day. Bathrooms comprises baths, showers, toilets and basins. Hot water is more than enough. Facilities are wheelchair friendly and a dedicated bathroom for movement impaired people is available. The kitchen is well equipped with electric hobs, microwave, fridge, freezer and hydroboil. A laundry with washing machine and tumble dryer is situated at the camp bathrooms. Tokens to operate the machines are available at reception. Overall a great experience.

Probably one of the most underrated of our National Parks! Amazing views and vistas that stretch forever. Abundant wildlife and birding. A large population of cheetahs and tracking animals cheetahs by foot is a possibility with SANPARKS rangers. 3 interesting 4x4 routes to explore and test your vehicle! Very well run and eager and supportive staff. A visit is highly recommended.

We got to see lots of animals on the Sunset game drive, it was well worth it. Ablution was great. No working laundry. But for R30 a Checkers bag of laundry was done for us within 2 hours. Great service. We only had one meal at the restaurant which wasn't that good.

Highly recommended for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike!

The Owl House Nieu-Bethesda is a unique museum located in the quaint village of Nieu-Bethesda, around 50 kilometers from Graaff-Reinet in the Karoo region. It was once the home and artistic haven of Helen Martins, an eccentric recluse and sculptor.
Interesting insight into Helen Martin, well laid out and generally interesting. There is a useful hand drawn booklet you can get for R30 which is excellent and very insightful. Great artwork by the artist.

The Owl House Museum, Nieu Bethesda - ★★★★★ A mesmerizing visit to The Owl House, a true gem of outsider art! Helen Martins (1897-1976), a reclusive South African artist, transformed her home into a vibrant wonderland of over 300 concrete and glass sculptures after returning to Nieu Bethesda to care for her parents. Her creative journey, sparked by a desire to escape a mundane life, is beautifully captured in an 8-minute introductory video that details her life and artistic practice. I was deeply impressed by her prolific output and the meticulous preservation of her colourful, otherworldly creations, from the glittering glass-encrusted interiors to the iconic Camel Yard. At R100 entry, it’s a captivating experience that’s well worth the visit—every corner tells a story of her unique vision.

A rare glimpse into a sad mind. It was beautiful. The locals make lovely cement figurines and the town is beautiful. It was a memorable experience.
Helga N — Google review
A must see place! Original artifacts from Helens house. The sement statues are renovated periodically, it has to be done but takes away from the awesomeness of originality. The house inside is the highlight for me! Some statues looks like it was not from Helens hands. Ticket prices are R100 per person. A must see place!
Liezl U — Google review
An interesting visit, especially because we have followed Helen Martins' activities in the media over the years. This is a good effort to preserve this history.

As an artist, I always wanted to see this place. The people of the town look after this museum. It leaves quite the impression on you; this immersive world. Take cash to support local craftsmen after your museum visit. They make replica cement sculptures of what you had just witnessed at the museum

Camdeboo National Park, located just outside Graaff Reinet, offers a rugged landscape with dry mountains and valleys. The park features iconic sites like the Valley of Desolation and the Cathedral of Mountains. Visitors can enjoy activities such as mountain biking, hiking, windsurfing, and canoeing at Nqweba Dam. Birdwatching and game viewing are popular here, with buffalo, springbok, and wildebeest residing within the park.
Very tranquil, only four sturdy, concrete based tents, with fridge and electric sockets. Number 2, facing the lake is the one to book and booking is essential. The communal kitchen is very well stocked. Each tent has a lockable cabinet with a full range of crockery and cutlery, including a toaster. There are powerful electric stove tops and a microwave.

We camped on site 5, in the little bit of shade available. It rained one afternoon and we ended up in a muddy clay quagmire. The water pressure in the ladies ablution was very low. Apart from this we enjoyed our drives up to Valley of desolation and around one of the 4x4 routes

Overnight at Camdeboo National Park – Nqweba Campsite Our stay at Nqweba campsite was memorable. The stands are spacious, each with electricity, a bench and table with seating, and a braai. Unfortunately, there’s no water point at the sites and no shade. The shared kitchen area is handy, with a freezer, two basins for washing dishes, and two 2-plate stoves – nice to have as an option. Bathrooms, however, are far too small (only 2 toilets and 2 showers), and they really need an urgent upgrade. We only spotted eland during our visit, but the setting is beautiful. A swimming pool would be a welcome addition, especially since nights were freezing cold, and summers must get very hot. Sadly, we didn’t have time to visit the Valley of Desolation – but that just gives us a reason to return. Hopefully next time we’ll see some improvements at the ablutions. 🙏

The Valley of Desolation in Camdeboo National Park is absolutely breathtaking! The views from the top are unforgettable, with dramatic cliffs and sweeping landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel small in the best possible way, surrounded by the beauty and power of nature. The park is well-maintained, with good facilities and picnic spots that make it easy to spend the whole day here. The drives and walking trails are enjoyable and accessible, offering plenty of chances to spot wildlife along the way. This is truly one of the highlights of Graaff-Reinet and a must-see for anyone visiting the area. Highly recommended for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone looking for an unforgettable experience in the Karoo.

Really love Sanparks. The park itself is maintained really well and the facilities are well looked after. Major issues are being had with the Monkey population unfortunately, they even went so far as to break brand new, unused tupperware. It didn't help that they only emptied out bin once for the week that we were there despite there being a team of cleaners at the camp

The museum provides an informative and peaceful experience for visitors interested in delving into the area's past.

Tsitsikamma National Park is a forested paradise along the coast, boasting campgrounds and the famous Otter Trail. The park offers breathtaking scenery with its lush forests, rivers, and coastline, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy activities such as hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, and mountain biking. The park's well-maintained hiking trails lead through rainforests and canyons.
A Must-Visit Gem on the Garden Route – Tsitsikamma National Park Tsitsikamma National Park is a breathtaking natural treasure that offers a perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and spectacular coastal scenery. The famous suspension bridges are simply iconic – spanning the mouth of the Storms River with dramatic ocean views all around. One of the highlights is the hike to the waterfalls, which takes about 2–3 hours round trip and rewards you with lush forest paths, rocky coastline, and the sound of crashing waves. The shorter hike (about 1–1.5 hours) to the bridges is also well worth it – especially for the stunning views and photo opportunities. For the more adventurous, kayaking up the Storms River all the way to the ocean is an unforgettable experience. Paddling through narrow gorges surrounded by towering cliffs is both peaceful and exhilarating. Day visitors are welcome, but if you have time, staying overnight in one of their rustic bungalows adds a magical dimension – waking up to the sound of the ocean just meters away is something special. Although the main restaurant is under construction, don’t miss the temporary one – their burgers are surprisingly delicious and a great way to refuel after your hike or paddle. Highly recommended for nature lovers, hikers, and anyone wanting to experience the wild beauty of South Africa’s coastline.

We traveled to Tsitsikamma national park via plan from US, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, then the park via a rental car. This is a MUST see for anyone in SA or traveling here. The ocean views are stunning all throughout the park. The trails and amenities are very well maintained- even better than the US national parks. We had such an amazing time. I wish we had longer than 24 hours to spend here!

What a scene to look at when you wake up hey! Amazing views and the sound of the ocean makes it so much better and it’s relaxing , there isn’t too much noise around the area. However, our chalet did not come with all the things we paid for (tv,utensils, remote) but to be quite honest, the bridge made up for it as you aren’t at a place like that to watch some tv.

The National park is breathtaking! I give it 3 stars because even in 2025 there’s still racism in this country, it’s absolutely disgusting. Big shout out to Ongezwa because we were scared but he made sure we enjoy the activity.

Tsitsikamma National Park is an absolute gem and one of the highlights of our trip (August 2, 2025). The scenery is spectacular—towering forests, dramatic cliffs, and that iconic meeting of river and sea. The trail to the Storms River Suspension Bridge is well-maintained and easy to follow, with breathtaking views at every turn. Crossing the bridge can feel a bit nerve-wracking, but taking your time (and going one at a time) makes it an unforgettable experience. We also spotted plenty of wildlife, including dassies sunning themselves on the rocks and lots of fascinating coastal flora along the way. The park is incredibly visitor-friendly, with a nice restaurant overlooking the water, a well-stocked gift shop, clean bathrooms, and plenty of parking near the entrance. Between the pristine trails, salty ocean air, and the thunder of the waves below, Tsitsikamma is a place you could happily spend hours exploring. A must-visit stop on the Garden Route.

The Storms River bridge, a concrete deck arch bridge towering 394 feet above the river, was constructed in the 1950s. It is a key stop along the Garden Route, offering breathtaking views and serving as the starting point for exploring the Tsitsikamma forest. The area is rich in history, with its pass through the Storms River gorge following ancient elephant migratory routes and built with convict labor in 1884.
To visit, turn into the petrol station and shops. There's plenty of safe parking available. From there you can do a loop walk across the bridge. There's connecting walkways that go underneath the bridge on both ends so you can cross from one side to the other. There's also a view point behind the shops.

Another one of my favorite camping spots. We had an ocean view camp spot. Also there are many hiking trails to enjoy at the park. The reason for only 3 stars are: The wood fence on the walkway in front of the camp site is in dire need of repairs. The building of the new restaurant/shop has been going on for years. Not sure when will be finish.

They ensured we were fully equipped and knowledgeable before the tour began, providing a comprehensive tutorial on operating the segways. What truly impressed us was the team's dedication to inclusivity. Our 5-year-old son was able to participate in the tour thanks to the guides' patience and assistance. Their passion for their work is evident in the way they enthusiastically share their knowledge about the surrounding flora and fauna. We highly recommend Tsitsikamma Segway Tours to anyone seeking an unforgettable adventure. We can't wait to visit again in the future!

An absolutely amazing experience indeed! Our instructor, Sissie, was a gem of note. She was friendly, patient, considerate, knowledgeable, funny, very helpful and safety conscious. We did the 2hour tour and loved every minute of it. This is really a fun way to experience this beautiful & enchanting forest.

We were lucky enough to do two tours and both of them where pretty amazing. The staff was very friendly and professional and helping along the line as much as they can. One of the tour guides took us 4 a small detour and that meant a lot. The machines are in very good condition it's just something to get used to. It might be a bit pricey but it is definitely something to do and experience.

Super amazing! Really worth the money. It's a trip through the beautiful green nature reserve with a very knowledgeable & friendly tour guide. There is a training session before the trip starts that overly prepares you for the journey. If we get the opportunity to do it again, I would for Charlie the charmer again. He knows everyone & everyone loves his striking personality.

First time visit. Extremely happy and positive staff members. Create great atmosphere. Great experience for me, my son and grandson. Just one proposal. Move the manure compost area away or the checking area. A smelly experience with registration time.

Untouched Adventures offers guided kayaking expeditions up the Storms River Mouth, where adventurers can paddle upriver from either the ocean or the Tsitsikamma Forest, depending on conditions. The journey takes you into a dramatic cave filled with bats and between towering cliffs. During low water, participants can switch to a lilo inflatable mattress for further exploration upstream, with opportunities for cliff-jumping along the way.
Unforgettable Experience with Untouched Adventures What an incredible adventure! The kayak and lilo activity with Untouched Adventures was a truly unforgettable experience — one that will stay with me for a long time. The location is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking natural beauty at every turn. A huge thank you to our amazing guides, Clinton and Rowan, who made the experience even more memorable. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and ensured we felt safe while having loads of fun. This is not just an activity — it’s an experience that connects you with nature in the most unique way. Professional instructors, good gear and service with a smile. Our guides were so good to us, showing us how to be safe, telling us about the history through the canyons and keeping spirits high. The overall experience was phenomenal, kayaking through a cut of ocean, moving into the canyons. Drifting on lilos and jumping of cliffs. I highly recommend this service and if you get the time, visit the parks and walks nearby. Extra note: Prepare to hit a toll gate going through to Plettenberg bay side and paying conservation fees at the park entrance.

What an incredible day with Untouched Adventures! It’s definitely a bucket list experience that I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for adventure and unforgettable scenery.

I joined The Kayak Tour with Untouched Adventures on 17 November with my girlfriend and our guides Tuks and Romeo were outstanding. From the very start safety came first, which gave us full confidence. Then came the fun — and it was great fun. They took the time to remember everyone’s names (there were 15 participants) and were incredibly friendly, attentive and went out of their way to meet our needs. With these two the kayak tour can only be awesome! And the landscape around the tour is simply stunning — it really adds to the experience.

Located above the Bloukrans River valley, the bungee jump from an arched bridge is not for the faint-hearted. The views are breathtaking and make it a must-do when in Western Cape. The service is great value for money, with friendly staff who help prepare you before jumping.
Such a great experience couldn’t have chosen a better place to try out courage! Great teams with a lot of energy, great exciting atmosphere and over all beautiful scenery! Thank you for the amazing experience!

A real thrill – fast, fun and surprisingly well organized This bungee jump is a real thrill. At first you might feel like things are a bit chaotic because the team is also having a good time and the vibe feels like a party. But in the end everything is well structured and clearly organized. They double-check everything, take photos of all the safety steps and make sure you’re properly secured. The whole process goes quickly and with a relaxed energy. Before you even realize it, you’re already jumping. The actual jump is intense – especially the moment when you’re all set and just waiting to be released. That feeling stays with you. All in all, definitely something to try if you’re looking for a serious adrenaline rush. But think twice – it’s not for the faint-hearted.

The place was absolutely beautiful and the view was incredible. I couldn’t do the bungee jump because I had a really bad muscle cramp in my leg, but we sat there, watched our friends do it, and the vibes were amazing. According to all our friends who tried it, the jump is super safe and they loved every second of it. We also had coffee with an incredible view and took some really nice photos. Overall, definitely worth the visit — even if you’re not jumping!

Nature's Valley Rest Camp

Campground

Located in the De Vasselot region, along the banks of the Groot River, is Nature's Valley Rest Camp within Tsitsikamma Section of Garden Route National Park. This picturesque campground offers basic amenities, such as clean ablutions and hot water. The gate guard is available round-the-clock, including early mornings at 3 am. During heavy rainfall, some campsites may become muddy.
In my opinion, this is an old school campsite. I love it! Although a few sites with lawn are available, most of the stands are tucked away in the forest. Well shaded and a carpet of leaves to make your camping experience a true date with nature. It is heaven for birders, hikers and lazy blokes like me. Only a few of the lawn sites have electricity points, but there is a secure facility to store and run your freezer or charge devices. Bathrooms are clean with a few facilities scattered around the campsite. Hot water is available. The communal kitchen is equiped with a stove, fridges and a freezer. A roofed lapa with fireplace is available for use on rainy days. The most outstanding part of the camp would most definitely be the friendly staff and exceptional service. Love this place!
Sas S — Google review
Nature's Valley Rest Camp offers a truly serene escape into nature, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The lush surroundings, peaceful atmosphere, and proximity to stunning trails and beaches made it a perfect getaway. The staff were friendly and helpful, ensuring a warm and welcoming experience. While we loved the camp, a few areas could benefit from some maintenance to enhance the overall experience. However, this did not detract from the charm and tranquility of the place. We look forward to returning and seeing how this hidden gem continues to improve!
Amilia E — Google review
We stayed at the electricity-included camping site. Sizes vary, but ours was large enough for a caravan, a small trailer with a rooftop tent, and 2 large vehicles. Some sites are smaller, but all are equally beautiful - deep in the bush, a little wet and cold (probably more the season than anything), but all around very nice. Bathrooms are also clean and well kept.
Sanja S — Google review
Camp sites are not swept clean and there is no dustbins. There is 220v connection points at some of the stands. The ablutions is fantastic and clean, there is a fully equipped kitchen with fridge and a fully equipped laundry. Lots to do with kids.
Deo N — Google review
What a place for peace and quiet. I've already booked my next stay. It was raining cats and dogs the day we visited but even that was an experience worth doing again. I loved it. Waking up to the abundance of bird life, monkeys, baboons and bush buck. Definitely worth a visit. Even if its just a day visit.

We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist - Jamaima. She really went out of her way to accommodate us. Thank you. The location of our chalet were perfect. The view was simply stunning, tranquil and very romantic. Incredible birdlife. As far as the chalet is concerned. The layout with the deck is great. I think SANParks can use some of their profit to plow back into the chalets. They do need maintenance inside and outside.

Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation & Awareness Centre

Non-profit organization
Nature & Parks
Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation & Awareness Centre is a non-profit organization that offers lodging, tours and experiences to visitors who can observe various big cats such as lions, leopards and cheetahs. The center aims to raise funds for the rehabilitation of injured wild animals, although visitors are not allowed to visit these facilities due to safety concerns. The knowledgeable guides provide valuable insights into the conservation efforts at Tenikwa, making it an educational experience for those interested in wildlife conservation.
A wonderful experience. Knowledge and friendly guides take you up close to the big cats. There's penguins, meerkats and more. This wildlife centre is focussed on the rehabilitation of animals that have been unwell or mistreated. There's a small cafe to enjoy a drink or snack. Recommended

Tenikwa is a excellent place for family bring kids to visit. My little girl really enjoyed to vist Tenikwa. Tenikwa is a non- profit wildlife animals place, there is a wildlife hospital to rescued so many animals, and also adopted some of them if they are not suitable to live at wild anymore. The tour guider is really nice and to introduce all animals to our family, and educating kids how to save the environment.
Carrie W — Google review
Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation & Awareness Centre is a truly remarkable place that highlights the humane and compassionate side of wildlife conservation. It provides care for animals that can no longer survive in the wild, such as lions, cheetahs, and other endangered species. Injured animals are treated and, if possible, released back into their natural habitat. Those that cannot return to the wild are given a safe and supportive environment within the center. One of the most impressive aspects of Tenikwa is how close visitors can get to the animals, all under the guidance of knowledgeable and passionate guides. We were fortunate to be accompanied by Davison, who made the experience truly exceptional. Even better, our visit happened to coincide with feeding time, so we got to witness cheetahs and other wild cats being fed—a rare and unforgettable sight. By purchasing a ticket, you’re not just enjoying a unique experience—you’re also directly supporting the center’s mission to care for and protect wildlife. It’s an experience that combines education, conservation, and awe-inspiring encounters with nature. A visit to Tenikwa is absolutely worth it.

Doing wonders for animals big and small. Lovely guides and enthusiastic staff. Good to raise awareness, they can use your visit to continue the good they are doing for all animals.
Allard H — Google review
Our entire experience at Tenikwa Wildlife Centre was amazing. From arrival to departure, we were made to feel welcome and felt that the friendly staff went out of their way to make our experience feel memorable. Sleeping in the self catering eco-cabin amongst gorgeous fynbos, just meters away from the lions, was the most wonderful unforgettable experience. We felt their presence the entire time - even in the middle of the night, when they blessed us with their goosebump-generating roars! We so enjoyed unwinding on the little porch, having a cup of coffee in the morning listening to the birds, or enjoying a glass of wine in the evening, just taking in the night time sounds and experience, and reconnecting with nature. Be prepared for an early morning wake up call from the lions – no need for an alarm clock! You’ll want to record their gorgeous guttural sound – it’s a really humbling experience to experience up close. How wonderful to be able to see the Lions from every angle. Just being in their presence was the most incredible experience we have ever had. Kuluma and Mkulu sat and “chatted” with us up close and personal at the fence a few times – and having never been so close to Lions before, this was quite a soul-stirring experience. They really are just spectacularly beautiful. The guided tour around the sanctuary was fantastic. Our beautiful photographs will be treasured. Zwelakhe the Leopard was a gorgeous model, and we have captured stunning mischievous Meerkat moments. All staff were super professional, yet laid back enough to make you feel so welcomed and relaxed. We travel and adventure often in our beautiful country, and were struck by how much the staff at this centre genuinely love their animals, telling us little stories of their antics, and sharing their personality traits and quirks with us. The sanctuary itself is so beautifully maintained and most importantly all the animals had ample space and they looked really healthy and happy. This sanctuary was developed to treat and home (if absolutely necessary) rescued wild animals that have been injured or for other reasons are unable to survive on their own in the wild. We were shocked to hear that Tenikwa often deals with over 200 injured animals a month in their animal hospital. It is an absolute credit to the amazing owners that they have dedicated their lives to this worthy work. Knowing that our booking contributes in some small way to this important cause, I could not recommend it any higher. We didn’t have tine to indulge in the Spa treatments on offer at the facility, but took a tour of the Spa centre – and will make sure we include this in our itinerary next time. If you haven’t put Tenikwa Wildlife Sanctuary on your bucket list yet, we recommend that you do.

What a truly amazing experience as a manager of backpackers able to tell the guests all about the wildlife rehabilitation centre truly amazing 😍 And it did rain on us a few time but it was truly amazing thank you...
Debbie R — Google review
If there’s one place on this holiday that truly moved me, it was the Tenikwa Rehabilitation and Awareness Centre. From the moment we arrived, it was clear just how deeply Mandy, Len, Keri, Alex and their team care for every animal they look after. Their dedication isn’t just something you see — you feel it. We weren’t able to see the animals currently being rehabilitated, as they wisely limit human contact, but that only made the experience more meaningful. We were privileged to meet the lions, cheetahs and the many other varieties of wild cats who, for various reasons, cannot return to the wild. And it wasn’t just the big cats — the sanctuary is also home to an incredible range of other animals, including meerkats, penguins, tortoises and a huge variety of birdlife. Being surrounded by so much life and hearing each animal’s story was deeply humbling. We were shown around by Msizi and Zama, whose knowledge, warmth and respect for the animals added so much depth to the experience. Our stay was just as special. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and wonderfully comfortable. Spending a night in one of the lion cabins was an experience I’ll carry with me forever — drifting off to sleep with the sounds of the sanctuary around us felt truly magical. Breakfast the next morning, prepared by Precious and Davidson, was made to order, beautifully cooked, and such a great start to the day. A recent addition to Tenikwa is their wellness centre, where we enjoyed a fabulous massage by Josephine — a perfect way to unwind. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this remarkable non-profit organisation. It will touch your heart, and our support helps sustain the extraordinary, compassionate work they do for some of the world’s most vulnerable animals.
Christine S — Google review
A wonderful, informative and transparent wildlife sanctuary. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and the grounds are very well kept! We left with new insight into the work that goes into conservation, and the meaning behind a TRUE wildlife sanctuary. Their motto rings true: “Come with an Open Mind, Tread with a Lighter Step, Leave with a Change of Heart”... A worthy cause to support when in the area.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Elephant Sanctuary in Plettenberg Bay. It was an unforgettable experience for me and my family, walking hand in hand with the elephants and getting so close to these gentle giants. The staff were very friendly and explained everything in a simple and interesting way, which made the visit even more enjoyable. Feeding and interacting with the elephants was truly special, and my kids absolutely loved it. A memorable family experience that we highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

A fantastic park for up-close encounters with elephants. The guides are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable — by the end of your visit, you’ll know each elephant by name: Thandi, Nandi, Thato, and Keisha. To make your visit even more special and connect with the elephants, be sure to buy a basket of vegetables at the counter — they’ll love being fed by you!

We made sure to visit the Elephant Sanctuary in Plettenberg Bay, and it was an absolute treat! The elephants are incredibly well-cared for, and the experience was truly unforgettable. After walking alongside these gentle giants, we gathered in the forest for an intimate photo session, where we could feed and interact with the elephants. The sanctuary also offers a keepsake video of the tour, with proceeds supporting their conservation efforts. Additionally, you can purchase unique elephant footprint art to support the sanctuary and take a memorable piece home. I highly recommend visiting and supporting this incredible sanctuary, ensuring they can continue providing exceptional care and maintaining the park's pristine condition.

We would definitly recommend this to everyone. Not only is it very informative but an amazing experience to be upclose to such big animal! The guide and handlers are very friendly amd goes the extra mile!

Lloyd was a knowledgeable and personable guide who clearly loves the elephants. The elephant handlers of Jabu, Marula and Thandi were awesome!!! Hearing about the elephants, their story (Jabu and Marula lost the tip of their trunks being caught in snares, Thandi never developed tusks), giving them snacks and walking with them was, while daunting, a lovely experience. All elephants here are rescues. Go and meet the elephants!!

Birds of Eden

Mentioned on
1 list
Bird watching area
Nature & Parks
Birds of Eden is a free-flight sanctuary that spans over 5 acres and boasts more than 200 bird species. The area is covered by a massive mesh dome, allowing visitors to enjoy self-guided walks while being surrounded by birds in their natural habitat. The wooden walkway takes guests from the root level of tall trees all the way up to the treetops and ceiling of the dome, providing an amazing experience.
Expect a Jurassic Park experience, but without the dinosaurs. It’s quite impressive with the numerous bird species that have the freedom to fly within such a large enclosure—one of the biggest in the world. I recommend purchasing the species identification guide for an additional R20. The walkways are sturdy and safe, with benches available for resting if needed. Unfortunately, the pathways are not wheelchair-friendly unless you're prepared for a rugged journey. Take your time, and don’t rush; let others pass who may be in a hurry. To make the most of your visit, allow yourself between one and two hours for a self-guided tour. The amphitheater was closed during our visit, probably due to maintenance upgrades. There is a restaurant near the exit, so you’ll need to complete the route to be able to enjoy it. If you’re a serious birdwatcher, I recommend avoiding visits during peak holiday seasons and weekends, as it can get quite crowded—but the birds won’t mind! Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. I suggest that management consider offering overnight accommodations in a jungle-style setting; it would be unforgettable to wake up with all those birds greeting the dawn. Don’t forget to spot the flying fox—you might just get lucky!

Loved Birds of Eden! We were taken around by 20 year veteran guide Eric. The aviary is enormous and the birds truly live in paradise. They can freely fly, have plenty of space and water, seed and fruit buffets setup for them in many places. Our tour lasted just over an hour. The landscaping is stunning, so much greenery, a waterfall, suspension bridge. We saw many species of bird including natives to South Africa - my favourite being the Turaco. My all time favourites the Macaw were also there in blue and yellow and scarlet varieties were also here. Flamingoes, scarlet ibis, geese, egrets, lovebirds - all here. You can buy a bird identification book at the gift shop for only R20. The birds you see on your visit will vary because the aviary is so huge. Reminded me a lot of KL Bird Park in Malaysia - all Birds of Eden is a lot more expensive. I wish we could have had lunch at the cafe overlooking the lake but our visit was very early in the morning. Bonus - resident cat that lives in the female bathrooms.

The most incredible experience we've had in South Africa so far! Give yourself AT LEAST two hours to walk through and be amazed. I can't say enough about it: here's a few thousand more words, in pictures! Many of the birds are so accustomed to this no-touch sanctuary that they feel completely comfortable posing for close-up photos. Unforgettable!

The overall experience was great.. Happy to have supported this institute. My only dissapoint was that they were not stocked with their booklets that describe the bird species they had.

This is our second visit to Birds of Eden. Of all the sanctuaries near Plett, this one is very special to me. Something about the large dome enclosure, the variety of birds and the lush greenery made for a calming nature experience. We will be back again.

Place is a paradise of tranquility & a must visit when in the area for exotic & normal bird/nature watchers/lovers. Even though a part was under construction, it was still wonderful to get to see all sorts of birds & moving between them. The staff was very friendly. Will most definately visit it again.

Birds of Eden was an unforgettable highlight of our trip! The aviary is enormous, with well-maintained and comfortable walkways that wind beautifully through the trees. Along the way, we were treated to some stunning views and an incredible variety of fascinating birds. This isn't a place to rush through—it's best enjoyed at a leisurely pace, allowing time to wander slowly, observe, and appreciate the birds in their naturalistic habitat. Highly recommended!

Monkeyland is a sanctuary offering guided tours to observe free-ranging primates such as capuchin monkeys, lemurs, and gibbons. The knowledgeable and entertaining guides make the experience worthwhile. Visitors are advised to attend feeding times for optimal viewing opportunities but should be cautious of blue vervet monkeys. Unfortunately, the restaurant is not recommended due to poor service from rude and lazy waitresses who prioritize their phones over customers.
It‘s not a „zoo“. This is you as the guest in THEIR habitat. They decide on their own if they would be visible or not. Magic places and really nice monkeys… shy ones, discreet ones… and gangsters. Perfect also for children. Will be a guided tour to protect guests- AND monkeys. ;-)

A very well guided experience of the monkey sanctuary. Interesting to find out that the monkeys own the land that they roam around in. The whole setup and experience is nice and you get to come close to a lot of the monkeys during the tour. The tour is guided so you’re not free to roam around and last about and hour. Would recommend as an alternative activity if you’re in the area. Overall would recommend.

Amazing experience for the whole family. The tour guide was well informed. He showed us each Monkey in retrospec of differences. We enjoyed the tour thoroughly and will definitely visit there one day. It was an absolute highlight on our vacation. Thanks Monkeyland.

What a special experience, getting to walk amongst these adorable monkeys in their natural habitat. Listening to the sounds of nature, seeing the monkeys at peace and living free was a really rewarding experience. The fact that they have been rescued and rehabilitated is also such an important cause, and one that we should all get behind. You can get involved and reclaim their land by paying for a block of land - each piece helping to extend their home. Such a worthwhile visit and one my wife and I would suggest to anyone visiting or staying in Plettenberg Bay.

Informative and interesting visit to Monkeyland. We saw Gibbons, Langurs, Lemurs, Capuchin Monkey, Howler Monkey, Spider Monkey, Vervet Monkey. The animals have healthy food buffets setup for them around the trail. I'm not a biologist so am not sure of the implications of housing this many monkey species freeroaming in the same area that would never cross each other's paths in the wild as they live on different continents. The widowed and childless female Gibbon was very sad to see. She looked despondent. Unfortunately our guide became preoccupied with retrieving a pair of prescription glasses stolen by a monkey from a person in a previous group. He warned us he was going to throw a rock near it to get it to drop the glasses. A rock about half the size of a cricket ball was pegged at the monkey. I thought it was going to hit it. The monkey took off further up the tree. We stood several times for minutes at a time alone while he went back to try again, making the tour very disjointed. The glasses werent even for anyone in our group so we had no vested interest. The glasses were not retrieved. The pitch on arrival to buy a 1m3 patch of land in trust to the monkeys would probably be best served at the end of the tour after we have seen the park. It is hard to commit to something (even a small donation such as this) without experiencing the facility first. At the end we were taken back a different way and nowhere near the gift shop and reception area and I'm sure some people would have donated then. We much preferred our visit to Birds of Eden next door. Quite expensive for a 1 hour tour.

Had a great time seeing the monkeys freely roam around, as they do in the wild. Enrico was a great host and provided us with a lot of information! Thank you for all the work you do for these lovely creatures ❤️

We thoroughly enjoyed our zany and educational experience at Monkeyland. Our guide Ralph was very knowledgeable and indulged all our questions. It was so fun and relaxing walking throught the forest and see the monkeys get into all sorts of hijinks - including a near successful theft of my water bottle! Some of the monkeys are very cheeky. A must-do in the region!

The short and well-maintained path ensures that visitors of all ages can enjoy this natural wonder without any strenuous effort.
Free entrance and the best picnic spot. This is a must stop when you past through Meiringspoort. Take a dip in the natural pools! The water was very cold but refreshing and the surrounding mountains are magnificent.

Hidden beauty, many zip pass but truly a wonderful short stop. A short walk from the car park to the falls. Facilities includes bathrooms and an information kiosk.

A short stop to enjoy the freshness of the waterfall (although not necessary in winter). Some stairs to climb, but all in all easily accessible. You might want to go in the afternoon, it gets quite cold in the morning and there is not a lot of light as you can see.

Shortest hike to a waterfall ever, the incline isn't too bad. Absolutely beautiful and quiet. I was a solo adventurer and I felt safe! People come to collect fresh water and it's quite a beautiful process

Absolutely beautiful I thought the waterfalls in Mpumalanga were awesome but I was blown away by this waterfall in WC

Beautiful Gem of a place. Lots of parking, and easy to enter from both directions when driving. Ready walk up to the waterfall, climbing of a few stairs. And once at the waterfall it is very slippery. The water is always cold but so refreshing and a must do. Beauty in nature.

This waterfall is absolutely amazing! Short little hike up some stairs, across, down some stairs. Very safe and well maintained. The bathrooms were spotless and very spacious with flowers and ample soap. The waterfall itself as you can see in the pictures is absolutely breathtaking! I would most certainly go again!

Meiringspoort is a stunning gorge located in the Swartberg mountains, accessible via the N12 national road. Before the construction of the Swartberg Pass, it served as one of the few links between Mossel Bay and towns in the Great Karoo. The area offers breathtaking landscapes with rock formations that resemble scenes from an adventure movie. Visitors can also enjoy Meiringspoort Falls, which are easily accessible from the road.

The picnic spots. The toilets and the parking areas are all super clean. The views are out of this world, amazing, beautiful and awesome.

Most beautiful, spectacular pass on the N12 between the towns of Beaufort West and De Rust. The pass is a gateway that connects the Little Karoo and the Great Karoo through a gorge with a 25 km road crossing the same river 25 times in the span of the 25 km. Many picnic spot area with toilets. The biggest picnic spot is where the walkway is to a waterfall. Well worth the walk.
