The Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is a 11595 hectare reserve located in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The reserve has three different hiking trails, and is home to a variety of wildlife including monkeys, zebras, buffalo and antelope. The entrance fee plus car fee payable at the gate via card makes it accessible to all, and there are wheelchair-friendly paths.
Enjoyed my visit today at Suikerbosrand nature reserve.Did the 11.5km hike and the views were spectacular and amazing.Vehicles are parked at a lovely picnic area.Safe and secure environment for all and the trails were marked out,so was able to navigate pretty easily.A wonderful experience.Be sure to carry enough rehydration fluids and snacks as it can get pretty hot up in the mountains and have to keep yourself well hydrated.Invest in comfortable hiking boots,as your feet will thank you.Overall an amazing experience.

We enjoyed the challenge Did the 10km hike Wasn't the easiest hike, gives you a sense of achievement. Paths well marked mostly clean Needs a little maintenance in sections. Don't underestimate the downhills ...
Jackie C — Google review
A great hiking/biking trail with some of the best views. It is a well maintained nature reserve that offers unforgettable memories. The trails are properly marked and the place is very clean. They open very early, weekday visiting hours are 7:00 to 16:00 and 18:00 on weekends. 3 trails 1. Bokmakierie trail which has 3 options 10km and 11,5km & 2. Cheater trail, which is 4,5km 3. 17km
Lesego M — Google review
Big skies, long loops, and the feeling you’ve actually left the city. We did one of the shorter circular hikes and still got broad grassland views, antelope sightings, and that quiet you only get when the road noise drops away. Trails are well marked and the gradients are honest but manageable. Take plenty of water, a hat, and decent shoes—there’s limited shade on the ridges. Facilities at the gates are basic but fine. If you like the idea of a “proper” hike without a long drive, this is an easy yes.

Provincial government is not fulfilling their mandate: - Day trails are badly eroded. - Overnight trails are closed. - Eland overnight hut fire damaged. - Holhoek picnic site is closed. - Ouhout Group Camp is closed. - Tourist Route road tar is not maintained, roadside grass not cut creating dangerous bends especially for cyclists. - Paved paths are overgrown and not maintained. - Water feature not working. - Medicinal garden overgrown, signage missing. - Educational dioramas in main building closed and damaged by water leaks. - fence in terrible condition, game regularly gets out and causes accidents. - Western gate burnt down (were firebreaks in place?) - Protea Hotel and pool closed. - Kareekloof resort and pools closed. - firebreaks never completed on time resulting in unplanned fires. NEVERTHELESS the scenery is still magnificent and there are still some animals to be seen. Renovation of Kiepersol Chalets and toilets in parking area said to be almost complete.

We enjoyed a 11.5km hike which took us 3:30mins. The reserve opens a 7am with a Card only system. No cash is accepted. The pathways are marked out but they can cut some of the bush , although there is alot of clear views. We didnt see any animals along the path but did see some animal dung. The toilets were clean and the place is well kept. The museum is a nice walk for those who want to reminisce.
Megan S — Google review
Enjoyed the 10,8km hike. Nature at its best , quite a moderate hike with challenging elevations. Stuff so friendly and give best advices. Only did the hike and could not explore other things in the nature reserve.
Matlou N — Google review
It was a beautiful weekend. Went on a 10km hike with my friends. The trail? doable but the steepness? One really needs good hiking shoes, a walking stick, a hat, enough water & sunscreen. 100% enjoyed it.

Vredefort crater

Crater
Nature & Parks
The world's largest, this vast 2-billion-year-old impact crater includes 4 towns & a granite dome.
Took a tour with a local guide. Stunning and informative. A very special place. Unfortunately, there is no public visitors centre or information centre. The UNESCO site represents a very small area of this huge geological feature, and seems to be located mostly on private properties

God's creature 🙀 is so amazing. The place is so beautiful with nice views.

What a waste of time there is no place to enter and if there is it is the best kept secret in the world. Drove 150km for nothing ended up on a very muddy road the took us to Vredefort what a total letdown don’t waste your time and diesel if you in a sedan you are bound to get broken down in some God forsaken dirt road

James was absolutely lovely. He made our stay here absolutely phenomenal. We cannot wait to come back again. My 4 year old son loved it and so did my 7month old. Elizabeth was also fantastic. Thank you to everyone for the fantastic experience and waking up to the sounds of lions roaring is out of this world!
TashiBumz — Google review
The road that turns to entrance ofboskoppie lion reserve is a dirt road for about 2km. Its abit bumpy. The lions Tigers leopards ect.. are all well fed and looked after. The guide innocent was very friendly and explained everything very well. Wear comfortable takkies because it's a walking tour. U can't take prams on tour so if u gt very small babies take a baby carrier. Really enjoyed interacting with baby cubs. All in all a good experience
Naaz K — Google review
The chalet was sub standard. The hot plate was old and dirty. The cold water tap was lose and there was no soap or shower gel in the bathroom. They forgot to switch on the geyser thus we had to shower in cold water. It is really not worth the price I won’t recommend the place to my friends
Jane M — Google review
Was an AMAZING getaway! Saw the most beautiful Tigers and big lions, and got to bottle feed the cubs!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Boskoppie is definitely a place to add to your bucket list. Elizabeth the manager was super friendly & our amazing tour gide was Moekie!

Beautiful experience. Worth visiting with family. Very informative

I honestly question the ethical aspects of this reserve. I find breeding animals in captivity for tourism and entertainment truly heartbreaking. I believe they take good care of the wild cats, but I think it's more about the financial gain and not for giving these cats the quality of life they deserve. They are ment to hunt and be wild, not to be observed in enclosures by tourist wanting to update their social media page with pictures of baby tigers. I was part of a tour groups and I honestly just felt upset leaving boskoppie after seeing how people didn't find it slightly unethical.
Nellje V — Google review
This was a highly satisfactory experience. The customer service was exceptional, and the staff were extremely helpful and courteous. The location may present some logistical challenges if one's vehicle is not well-suited for the terrain.

Absolutely an amazing place!!!!! Would recommend it to everyone. They are friendly, helpful and go the extra mile to make your experience something you will never forget!! Amazing people, delicious food and incredible interactions with these amazing animals!!

Very bad service. Was there yesterday since it shows 24hours on a Sunday. Waiting infront of the gate for 30mins.finally a bakkie showed up and me and my family were chased away and being told it's private property we can't be there. We drove 180km from Kimberley to go there. We had to go look for another place close to bloem. Maybe we were seen as criminals bcos of our colour
Leocardo A — Google review
The place is great, specially for animal lovers. Perfect for a location event, has play area for kids as well. I didn't like the food prepared for us but that might just be a preference issue. The road going to the place is very bad, people going there would benefit if they use off road cars.

We had the amazing privilege today of a Private Tour around Bagamoya Lion Sanctuary with the owner Botha. An unssuming man with a law degree.. His passion for his animals radiates and soon as you meet him. The Sanctuary is a safe haven for rescued animals, which means it's a NO KILL shelter, he looks after them as though they were his own children, with such passion and enthusiasm. His knowledge about each and every animal is unbelievable. He can tell you before you enter into the cages which animal will take a liking to you and which you might not. His two Cubs that you are allowed to play with I have no words to describe. Well behaved and lil bit naughty but at end of the day just want to be loved. Botha, it was and honour to meet and spend the day with you learning about these animals and I am truly humbled by the work that you and your wife do for them everyday. From the lil Cubs, to the teenagers to the older Lions as well as the Cheethas, Leopardas and Caracals. We cant wait to come and see you guys again with the progress you have made on the bird sanctuary, as well as well as all the other plans you mentioned today to me. My sister was in her element for her birthday and for that I thank you.. I cannot think of another present that will beat this one. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you soon again This is a highly recommended Private tour with a 15/10 from me.... this far outcede my expectations and you can see by the photos.
Greg O — Google review
Would give 0 stars if I could!! Do not recommend!! They are having all their animals seized due to neglect and cruelty!! So disgusting the way you treat animals!! An animal worker was killed by a lion due to neglect and maintenance of the enclosures. This situation was inevitable when you treat animals the way you do!!! How can you leave a tiger so crippled it had to crawl along the ground and now needs surgery to repair the damage from your neglect!! Stop acting the innocent when you know full well the nspca are confiscating all your animals!! It should have been done a long time ago!!
Sian S — Google review
Terrible service. Website says open 24 hours, went there on a Saturday. Gate intercom doesn't work at all, numbers go straight to voicemail.
Michaela D — Google review
Waited at the gate to no answer and it is extremely far to go to wait at a closed gate and no response on calls. What a let down.

I dailed the number and was told that they closed down from locked down time (meaning they are already closed for 5 years).

Museums
Oliewenhuis Art Museum is situated on Grants Hill and housed in a Neo-Dutch-style mansion that served as the residence for the Governor General of the Union of South Africa. It was also used by King George VI and his family during their visit to Bloemfontein. The museum, a branch of the National Museum, features an extensive collection of South African art, including old masters and modern paintings and sculptures.
Very Neat💯 Often, we visit the place for picnics and outdoor functions..one time we decided to tour inside the museum 😅our guide was a sweet & arlet lady throughout the trip💯We discovered that they also accommodate blind or rather let me say visually impaired persons🥹so considerate 🫂I strongly recommend.
Tumi M — Google review
Such an amazing piece of art but I can’t believe the restaurant closed down. It’s sad to see how busy the place was about 5 years ago and now people don’t appreciate it as much. Loved the upkeeping of the place and lawns.
Izelle P — Google review
What a wonderful art museum close to Naval Hill, Bloemfontein. Old South African masters and contemporary art on exhibition and on sale. Beautiful gardens to wander in with the larger sculptures exhibited there. Only R10 parking fee, entrance for free in May 2025.
Errol S — Google review
Saw a well curated exhibition here a few weeks ago, very knowledgeable and personable young Man TK should us around aswell. Top top experience that I didn't expect. We'll done to the curators and artists exhibiting aswell. Exciting pieces, great works of varying techniques.
Luhle S — Google review
The place is worth visiting. To appreciate the work of others and unwind outside, while enjoying the view of outside sculptures and the feeling of outdoors. The place could really use a restaurant or at least a cafe because, after exploring different parts of the museum personally I was worn out and needed a drink or something sweet to recharge. What I've noticed about the museum is that they give people an opportunity showcase their craft, if that is not the reason then I suppose they can do better because some pieces weren't all that if you understand what I mean. The best highlight for me was the section for blind people, yes if you have a blind friend(s) or a family member who appreciates art, then allow them to tag along! Fyi: there are cats and the ones at the back love attention #smiles
ZI M — Google review
Lovely place. Nice manicured lawns for picnics. Art is interesting. Always something new on display.

The experience was awesome because I'm an Art lover but I specialise in poetry and acting,I somehow wished one of my poems could be framed and be part of other pieces in the museum

War Museum of the Boer Republics Bloemfontein

Mentioned on

War museum
Museums
The War Museum of the Boer Republics in Bloemfontein is a poignant and comprehensive display of the 1899-1902 war. The museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts, photographs, and dioramas that vividly depict the events of the conflict from the perspective of the Boer people. Visitors can explore graphic battle scenes and learn about the brutal struggle through exceptional art collections and exhibitions.
As an Afrikaans South African who has lived in England for almost 30 years, I was delighted and pleased to see how the museum and monument is being maintained. I have visited many times in the past years, having encouraged my children to also keep in touch with this important part of our culture and heritage. It was so uplifting to see the perfectly maintained gardens, the excellent standard of the displays and the clear, tactful descriptions of a heartbreaking historical event that evokes so much emotion. The topic is handled with utmost care and respect, while the sad facts are revealed with sensitivity and a directness that make it easier to comprehend. The overall atmosphere is one of reflection and kindness. On his first visit to South Africa, my British partner of Welsh descent found it a balanced account of the facts, without sugarcoating or unnecessary dwelling on emotion. I particularly love how the past fate of the innocent has become significant in the wider modern context, keeping the story of the women and children of the Boer War alive and relevant. Thank you for maintaining this precious site in such an excellent condition. It is a must-visit for everyone!
Cathy R — Google review
What a surreal experience. The sadness I felt was just something else. My people. 27k people perished during a dark time in our history. The museum looks amazing with the new look. They've done an incredible job. Absolutely 10/10. Clean, safe atmosphere, learning about new artifacts, reading new stories, feeling new emotions every time we visit. Keep doing God's work. Keep their names alive. And a final R.I.P. to the 345 Fourie souls that perished in the concentration camps, and 75 Fourie Souls on the battlefield. We are all a family, in some way or another.
Chene F — Google review
An absolutely heartbreaking experience to see all the names of the people ( mostly women and children) who died in the concentration camps. The reality of it all is just so overwhelming and sad. Grounds and museum and monuments beautifully maintained.
Erma P — Google review
For anyone interested in the Boer War, this is a must! A whole day is need to taking everything that is presented. The facility is extremely neat and maintained, and the displays are excellent. I am sorry I haven't visited the museum before
Leon N — Google review

Neo R — Google review
The exhibitions are not only beautiful and interesting, but very educational as well. 4 hours was not enough to absorb all there is to see and experience. The receptionist is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back..🏛️ Visited on
Anita L — Google review
This is a very good museum with a lot of original exhibits, well designed rooms according to different periods of the war, and prominent people who were involved in those events. I can't say that I enjoyed it as the topic is very sad and hard - I had tears in my eyes for most of the time we were thete, but it is so well designed, presented, and preserved! Visit to this museum was certainly a highlight to our visit to Bloemfontein.
Svetlana A — Google review
Very neat and well kept, from the grass to the top floor. Very reasonable prices too, we payed R50 in total for two pensioners and a adult. Beware that it will be an emotionally moving visit when you realize the scope and horror of the war. It is not a huge museum and you can take everything in under two hours or less. No cameras allowed inside. Bathrooms were neat and clean and there is an elevator, allthoug you would move from one hall to another by stairs.

What an absolutely stunning experience at Tiger canyon from pre check in to leaving the farm. Roger canyon has the most amazing and knowledgeable staff on site always willing to help with something or answer any questions. The rangers Adi and Greg were amazing from the friendly banter between on anther to the knowledge they were able to pass onto us was great. 100% would recommend a visit to this awesome lodge which is doing so much good for conservation with tigers and cheetahs.
Ruan B — Google review
This isn’t a zoo—it’s real conservation, done right. You’ll experience it all while enjoying five-star comfort, from the accommodation to the food. It’s true luxury, set in the heart of nature. The highlight? Spending time with two incredible wild cat species. It’s normal to be skeptical—but that changes quickly once you see it for yourself. This is a rare, unforgettable experience.
Brenda E — Google review
Unique place - Tigers and cheetahs 17000 hectares for the big cats. Some re-wilding and some rescue/ nurturing effort. The lodge is nice. Very well maintained. Staff is sincere and try their best. Respond well to requests. The guide Edi is knowledgable and patient. We were fortunate to see a hunt by the cheetahs. Spectacular!
Rajeev G — Google review
Wow! What a special place! Greg was the best ranger and really went the extra mile to point out ALL the tigers to us. The 1 on 1 time with the cheetahs was super special! Definitey planning to return for a sleepover in the canyon lodge, which is breathtaking!

Words cannot do justice. We, 2 couples are well travelled are various safari lodges) reserves and this is by far the best experience we have had. Ade is exceptional, so interesting, informative and best of all enthusiastic. Ade being an excellent photographer, will, if possible always locate the vehicle in the very best position. Tigers, cheetah, birds.. don't expect anything else as if anything else is roaming around ( that can't fly) it's eaten, you must consider that the tiger is the pinnacle of the food chain
Peter D — Google review
My time at Tiger Canyon was nothing short of amazing! Kirsty and staff are super friendly and always ready to attend to your every need. The chef/s prepared the most scrumptious meals which I thoroughly enjoyed. Jani was our guide on the game drives, she is incredibly knowledgeable and made our trip unforgettable. The highlight of the trip for me was being able to approach the cheetahs on foot and snap some incredible pictures! Hoping to visit again in the very near future :)
Yeshika M — Google review
For any nature lover, a visit to Tiger Canyon is a must. It is an exceptionally unique experience being able to view Tigers up close in the wild, together with the fantastic guidance provided by Adi and Daniella. The Cheetah sightings were also wonderful. Adi put in every effort to maximise our photographic experience of the Tigers, Cheetah, bird life, landscapes, insects and every other aspect of Tiger Canyon’s wildlife diversity. The lodge setting, the staff, the service, the food and the friendliness were all superb. This is one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences available in our country.

Tiger Canyon Private Game Resort Tigers in Africa ? How unusual …. These is a reserve with tigers kept in the wild open fields of Africa. The resort is highly private and exclusive … with just three rooms. We enjoyed our three days there. The game drives were excellent. Our guide was Adie … A young man that is extremely well read about tigers and other wild animals. He was so enthusiastic and made each of our game drives so special. We saw a lot tigers … and enjoyed the entire experience. The hospitality at the resort was the best. Warm and welcoming. Excellent food.

Park
Mountain Zebra National Park, established in 1937, was created to protect the natural habitat of the Cape Mountain zebra. The park is home to a variety of wildlife including lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, and rhinos. Visitors can explore the park's paths on foot or by 4X4 and are likely to encounter the majestic Cape Mountain zebra amidst stunning scenery. Accommodation options include cottages and a guest house for those who want to stay overnight.
Come here for the landscape and views. The animals are a bonus. The views and vistas are stunning. Limites selestion of game. Very clean, friendly staff and well run. The roads may be a challange for low sedans. You could do all the roads in the park in one day if you are dedicated. The shop in the main camp has very basic supplies. Best to bring all your own supplies. Overall an enjoyable experience. Traffic is low volume, not crowded at all. Well worth a visit for 2 or 3 days.
Mark C — Google review
Its a lovely park and staff are so friendly but the camping facilities are not so nice. Too little dustbins, one tap for a few campsites, broken equiptment and not always clean. The shop has basic stuff that you may need.
Helga N — Google review
Absolutely LOVED this park for its scenery, unusual birds and many interesting smaller creatures and enjoyable 4x4 routes (which we could do in 2x4 with a strong, high vehicle and good driver). I highly recommend the Cheetah Walk - it is worth double the cost in my opinion and you will be grateful you did it. The pool was clean and the walking trails are great: a shorter flatter 1km trail suitable for most people; and the longer, steeper 2.5km trail that requires general fitness - very well worth it! And a great way to loosen up after many hours siting in a vehicle game driving. The cottage was generally clean, well laid out, spacious. But: there was no cutting board, sharp cutting knife, vegetable peeler, or scissors. The top shelf in the kitchen was very dirty and sticky. Most towel railings and the soap dish had broken off and was not put back up, making things difficult in the bathroom. And 2 toilet rolls for a 6-day stay is insufficient; we twice asked for more toilet paper but were only provided with 1 once and ignored the second time; we just used our own after that. Front desk staff were generally friendly and knowledgeable. The game guides Tumelo and Andrew are FANTASTIC - of the best I've experienced in any game park - keep this up!
Ronel P — Google review
A lovely campsite in a great National Park. Campsites are level with paved areas to pitch your tent or RV. Not all sites have shade, and you have to pick carefully to get the optimal site. Each site have electricity and a water point. Braai stands are supplied. Bathrooms are clean and neat, and cleaned every day. Bathrooms comprises baths, showers, toilets and basins. Hot water is more than enough. Facilities are wheelchair friendly and a dedicated bathroom for movement impaired people is available. The kitchen is well equipped with electric hobs, microwave, fridge, freezer and hydroboil. A laundry with washing machine and tumble dryer is situated at the camp bathrooms. Tokens to operate the machines are available at reception. Overall a great experience.

Probably one of the most underrated of our National Parks! Amazing views and vistas that stretch forever. Abundant wildlife and birding. A large population of cheetahs and tracking animals cheetahs by foot is a possibility with SANPARKS rangers. 3 interesting 4x4 routes to explore and test your vehicle! Very well run and eager and supportive staff. A visit is highly recommended.

We got to see lots of animals on the Sunset game drive, it was well worth it. Ablution was great. No working laundry. But for R30 a Checkers bag of laundry was done for us within 2 hours. Great service. We only had one meal at the restaurant which wasn't that good.

Fabulous scenery. Plenty animals. Cheetah kill with mom and 5 cubs. Accommodation is very comfortable and clean.

Mountain Zebra National Park is an amazing place for wildlife lovers. We saw so many animals, including mountain zebras (of course!), ostriches, kudus and more. The landscapes are beautiful, with rolling hills and open plains that make spotting animals easier. It’s a peaceful and well-maintained park, a perfect destination for a self-drive safari. Highly recommended for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike!

The Owl House Nieu-Bethesda is a unique museum located in the quaint village of Nieu-Bethesda, around 50 kilometers from Graaff-Reinet in the Karoo region. It was once the home and artistic haven of Helen Martins, an eccentric recluse and sculptor.
Interesting insight into Helen Martin, well laid out and generally interesting. There is a useful hand drawn booklet you can get for R30 which is excellent and very insightful. Great artwork by the artist.

The Owl House Museum, Nieu Bethesda - ★★★★★ A mesmerizing visit to The Owl House, a true gem of outsider art! Helen Martins (1897-1976), a reclusive South African artist, transformed her home into a vibrant wonderland of over 300 concrete and glass sculptures after returning to Nieu Bethesda to care for her parents. Her creative journey, sparked by a desire to escape a mundane life, is beautifully captured in an 8-minute introductory video that details her life and artistic practice. I was deeply impressed by her prolific output and the meticulous preservation of her colourful, otherworldly creations, from the glittering glass-encrusted interiors to the iconic Camel Yard. At R100 entry, it’s a captivating experience that’s well worth the visit—every corner tells a story of her unique vision.

A rare glimpse into a sad mind. It was beautiful. The locals make lovely cement figurines and the town is beautiful. It was a memorable experience.
Helga N — Google review
A must see place! Original artifacts from Helens house. The sement statues are renovated periodically, it has to be done but takes away from the awesomeness of originality. The house inside is the highlight for me! Some statues looks like it was not from Helens hands. Ticket prices are R100 per person. A must see place!
Liezl U — Google review
An interesting visit, especially because we have followed Helen Martins' activities in the media over the years. This is a good effort to preserve this history.

As an artist, I always wanted to see this place. The people of the town look after this museum. It leaves quite the impression on you; this immersive world. Take cash to support local craftsmen after your museum visit. They make replica cement sculptures of what you had just witnessed at the museum

Cathedral of St Michael and St George

Spectacular from every angle, both the Intricate interior and the prominent edifice, boldly welcoming at the end of the tree lined avenue. Rather alabaster coloured pillars and archways, tower several stories high inside. We are here for the French fireworks and organ recital by the renowned Dr Peter Black.

Magnificent olde world architecture. A seemingly endless array of intricate stained glass windows, each with its own unique scenery. Lovely woodwork from an era when people took immense pride in their work.created with patience and love. A warm interior on a frosty and rainy day. The cathedral building occupies the end of a tree lined avenue. Specta6from every possible angle.

I decided to visit the Cathedral as there is no one back at home (Limpopo). Their service is friendly, no one is forced to participate. Their hymns are harmonious. The building is peaceful itself. Do not hesitate to attend if you want to visit. Go there. And, it's free to attend.

Beautiful architecture, some parts almost a century old... the still functioning organ was brought out of England in the early 1900's...many of the features in the church are ornate & handcrafted ...and we were privileged with the most humble of guides who has such a passion for the church, and for serving others.

Monument
Sights & Landmarks
The 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown offers a breathtaking view of the town from its elevated position. It is a popular spot for visitors, especially during events like the National Arts Festival. The monument is also used by Rhodes University for various functions and boasts well-maintained auditoriums and ample parking space. Visitors appreciate the statues and informative displays around the building, as well as the warm welcome from the staff.
Fantastic large scale public exhibition and meeting facility with a picturesque view over the town. We attended the Grahamstown Arts Festival here in 2023 and attended our daughter's graduation here in 2024. The facility has various theatre venues and its main auditorium has a gallery catering to wheelchairs.

Just visited The 1820 Settler's National Monument today, and it's stunning! The statues and informative displays around the building are lovely, and the size of the floors and what they offer is truly impressive. The team there greeted me warmly and made me feel incredibly welcome. It was such a touching experience. Thank you!

One of the best and most humbling things to do when visiting a new place is being able to view that place from a higher vantage point and enjoy the full sprawl of a city or town. The Settlers Monument is the best place to do that in Grahamstown. I travelled to Grahamstown for the 2015 National Arts Festival, and despite all the exciting events happening throughout the town, the Settlers Monument and the view from the hill was still my favourite thing about the trip.

The Big Pineapple in the Eastern Cape is a must-see landmark, standing at 16.7m tall and celebrating the region's pineapple heritage. Located on Summerhill Farm near Bathurst, it offers a unique experience with a gift shop, an auditorium, fascinating displays, and an observation deck. Visitors can learn about the history of pineapple farming in South Africa and enjoy photo opportunities with the iconic structure.
What a fantastic tourist attraction! Bathurst and pineapples have a long and interesting history and this pineapple contains a lot of information about that history You can go inside and with each level as you go up you can read about pineapple history, their introduction to South Africa, and cultivation. The entrance is only R25 (Jan 2025) for adults and it is well worth it to support local attractions Definitely a must see!
Szymon W — Google review
Such a nice experience to go up to the top of the Pineapple for the view. Went there are a child and was amazing to be able to go up there 30 years later. The stairs is quite steep, but worth the climb as each level has information of the Pineapple history. Nice little shop with everything pineapple related. but the shop can expand a little.
Maggie N — Google review
Recommended for kids aged 6 to about 12. For a small entry fee you can climb inside the pineapple right to the top, reading interesting exhibits along the way. They welcome school groups. There is not much to see besides the view from the top of the pineapple. Produce, merchandise, souvenirs and refreshments are for sale in the shop inside. There is no place to sit down and eat or have coffee. Parking signage is non existant.
Irene M — Google review
I enjoyed my visit there, my kids had a lot of fun, quite an interesting history lesson. Quite an adventure for the kids they really had fun.
Siphokazi C — Google review
It was really nice, I always pass by when I travel through from Durban to PE. This time around I wasn't lucky with the big pineapples I usually buy, from R5 it's now R10. But the place itself and the vendors are great people, not to mention being surrounded by all those pineapples! The guys selling those collectables outside are truly talented and I'm going to return for some more amazing crafts.
Khadija M — Google review
I had visited many years ago so didn't revisit the full pineapple but I had a really wonderful chat with young woman at the sales desk. She is friendly and well spoken and generally delightful. I needed to commend her publicly as people often feel obliged to just complain. I unfortunately neglected to ask her name. I was there Friday 1st August '25 in the morning in case her employers read reviews and commend her.
Carly B — Google review
The most miserable person working inside the pineapple where you pay to walk up. This is also the shop where you can buy stuff. She makes you not want to be there at all nor buy anything. Couldn’t leave quicker! The pineapple itself and the information inside could really be worth a visit but this woman leaves a bad taste instead of a sweet one! 😢😢

Sibuya Game Reserve Reception is a riverside resort located in the seaside village of Kenton-on-Sea, offering chic suites and tent-based lodging. Accessible by a 45-minute boat ride up the Kariega River, this malaria-free game reserve is home to the Big Five. It's an ideal destination for a family vacation or bush escapade, providing various child-friendly game viewing activities. Visitors have praised the value-packed day trips with boat rides, game drives, and delicious lunches.
In December 2024 and January 2025, we were a group of five guests at Sibuya Game Reserve. We stayed at the River Camp and spent three nights in luxury tents. We had our own guide for our group, who took us on safari tours at any time. We had our meals in a communal tent, which were excellent from breakfast to dinner. The reserve was full of wild animals that could be easily spotted on exciting drives. The guides coordinated superbly with each other, so that after a long search, we were still able to find the elephant herd. On New Year's Eve, guides from different camps, including ours, prepared snacks and drinks at a green spot in the middle of the reserve. It was a wonderful sight with a great view of the starry sky! Our guide Matt was a super friendly guy with great knowledge about nature and animals, who could be asked any question at any time. All in all, we had a great time at Sibuya Game Reserve!

Sibuya is beautifully set along a river, truly authentic and unspoiled. I had the pleasure of having Mike as my ranger, he was fantastic, incredibly knowledgeable, passionate about the wildlife, and clearly loves what he does. The entire team went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable - the service was outstanding from start to finish. The food was delicious and always plentiful. Each game drive felt like a real adventure, you never knew what you might encounter next! A huge thank you to the whole Sibuya team for such an unforgettable experience. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Our stay at Sibuya Game Reserve River Camp was truly out of this world — an experience like no other! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome and special. Our guides, Matt and Jay, took us on game drives that were nothing short of extraordinary. Their knowledge, passion, and sense of humor made every moment memorable. Matt’s incredible insight into the wildlife and environment taught us so much, while the rapport between the two of them brought endless laughter and fun to every outing. We were lucky enough to a variety of animals, including most of the big 5 — all so close it took our breath away. Watching the sun set with delicious snacks and drinks each evening was simply magical. The food and service at River Camp were exceptional. Chris, Hannah, and the team went above and beyond — every meal was a delight, and every detail was handled with such care and warmth. As honeymooners, we were touched beyond words when they surprised us with an intimate three-course dinner set up beautifully in our lodge. It was such a thoughtful and romantic gesture that we’ll never forget. Sibuya River Camp truly exceeded every expectation — a perfect mix of adventure, luxury, and heart. We left with full hearts, big smiles, and memories that will last a lifetime.

An Unforgettable Eco-Luxury Safari Experience Our stay at Sibuya Game Reserve and Lodge was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome, relaxed, and completely taken care of. Their knowledge, passion, and warm hospitality truly enhanced the entire experience. One of the highlights was how secluded and peaceful it felt — we practically had the place to ourselves, which made the connection with nature even more special. Every detail of the lodge and experience reflects a genuine commitment to eco-friendly practices and responsible tourism. It’s refreshing to see a place that doesn’t just talk the talk but actively works to preserve the environment and support the local community. The game drives were unforgettable, and the guides were not only informative but deeply respectful of the wildlife. It’s clear that Sibuya is more than just a luxury destination — it’s a place with heart and purpose. We left feeling inspired, recharged, and already planning our return. Highly recommended to anyone looking for an authentic, responsible, and truly memorable safari experience.

We had the most incredible 2 night stay at Sibuya Bush Lodge. Firstly the service goes above and beyond anything we’ve experienced before with kind, skilled and knowledgeable drivers, attentive staff and excellent food. You are truly looked after and get an amazing feeling for the reserve you are in. The reserve itself has amazing scenery and we had some very special viewings in particular with the lions, elephants, buffalo and giraffe. It was our first experience in a game reserve and will stick with us forever. The lodge itself is also beautiful in a tranquil setting with the adding benefit of a pool and plenty of areas to sit amongst nature.

Went on a game drive of note. What an incredible experience. We got very close to rhino but the cherry on the cake and getting clean undies afterwards was a moment that none of us will ever forget. An elephant bull in musth came slowly walking towards us and past me by so close, I could see the dust in his wrinkles, serious. My heart was throbbing so much and so loud, I was scared he could hear it. Wow what majestic sight. Thanx for the experience.
Mandi M — Google review
We stayed at the Bush Lodge in December 2025 and were lucky enough to have the lodge to ourselves (party of 4). The Game Ranger Giselle was fantastic, she was so knowledgeable, helpful and fun. Even though I have done a number of game reserve stays, it was still engaging and magical as she went above and beyond to find us great sightings of the animals. The food was great and accommodation great - especially for the price. There were more creepy crawlies around the lodge compared to other reserves I've stayed at, but that just added to the fun. It is very dark (and spooky) walking back to the rooms at night, even with the torches - some small lights along the path would help. Overall, a great stay and would recommend!

It would be hard not to rate Shamwari highly, it really is magnificent. Good service at every level. Restaurant is excellent, really good on chef!! Good game, good projects (vulture rehab, breed and release) and well done!

Words can’t describe how much we enjoyed our trip to Shamwari! We stayed in Bayethe for our honeymoon and everything was simply perfect. In particular, our ranger Jesse was absolutely incredible. Not only was he super talented in tracking animals and educating us on them (and the birds, trees and plants too!), we was super friendly, answered all of our questions and really went above and beyond to make our trip memorable. On our final game drive, he managed to track an entire pride of lions from just a few paw prints which was the perfect end to our trip. As for the lodge itself - just wow! It’s extremely luxurious and the entire staff are very attentive and responsive. The food is spectacular and facilities are top notch! We will never forget our trip to Shamwari and hope to return one day.

An amazing stay at Eagles Crag in Shamwari. The lodge is beautifully decorated, so cosy yet still very modern and the rooms are something else, all very private and not overlooking any other rooms. The food was incredible - breakfast, lunch, dinner and game drive snacks were some of the best we’ve ever eaten - the quality is exceptional. Shoutout to Amanda who is the beauty therapist in the Spa - I had the most amazing one hour facial. We were exceptionally lucky to have Frans as our Game Ranger on our 4 day stay - its clear he is passionate about all animals and has a vast amount of knowledge about them all and that he really loves his drives - we were super lucky to be able to see all the Big 5 within our first two drives thanks to him - he can spot animals miles away and is so talented at tracking animal prints and smells - really eye opening. He is also great fun and a super guy to have in a group - thank you Frans for everything. What makes Eagles Crag the best is the staff - all the staff are amazing including Portia, Siya and their team but we were blessed to have Unaithi as our butler - she truly is a ray of sunshine who will go above and beyond for all her guests, her service is excellent and she will always remember your preferences!! She also fooled us and along with Frans helped organise a gorgeous lunch out in the reserve. We were so lucky to be able to do this. Big shout out to all the other staff too, including Beryl, Kingston and Vanessa and the housekeeping team for everything they do. We cannot wait to return, hopefully sometime soon.

As a luxury experience and game reserve, this absolutely delivers. Yes, it’s very expensive, but it also was an incredible experience. The staff were so joyful in their service, the food was amazing (3 course meals for every meal), my girlfriend’s food allergies were treated with extreme care, everything was always clean, an extremely beautiful property. Not to mention the actual game drives. Our guide Brad was phenomenal and knowledgeable, tailoring the experience to our personal interests. We saw so many cool animals and got to experience the environment to its fullest. If I could rate my experience 100 more times they’d all be 5 stars. Thank you Shamwari for an incredible experience!

As someone who’s done the SCE and has known a lot of the people at Shamwari it is amazing and beautiful. The issue is not everyone has 10,000 for 2 nights at long Lee manor. SCE is incredible but their lodges are out of reality. Greedy Greens I guess. This beautiful place should be accessible for everyone not just the rich. Why would someone realistically pay that much when it’s 6 months rent in US or Canada even if I had the money I would NOT spend it on 2 nights at some hotel. Clearly trying to get back their investment on the new lodges. It’s not about the animals anymore which is sad. Luxury yes beautiful animals and land Yes. Affordable for normal people travelling to South Africa Definitely NOT! Prices are outrageous. Like I said Greedy greens

In every sense of a 5 star experience this absolutely ticked every box and then went on to exceeded expectations. I booked this as a surprise trip for my partner to celebrate our engagement. We had been recommend Shamwari by a number of friends who had gone. We stayed at the beautiful Bayethe lodge for 6 nights. - The food was absolutely incredible, thanks to chef Max and his team! Amazing selection and delicious. - The room was beautiful and the central lodge was such a lovely place to come relax between drives or in the evenings. - The team at Bayethe were an absolute highlight. To a person everyone was so kind, happy, welcoming and accommodating. Special shout out to Thandy, Rina, Mauveen, Buil, Jean, Sino, Nina, Im so sorry i've forgotten a few other names but know they were all incredible. Also to note, i really appreciate how all staff members, and other rangers, really do go out of their way to introduce themselves to you and have a chat. It really makes you feel at home. - Our ranger for the week was Patrick. Words don't quite provide justice for how lucky me and my partner felt to have him as our ranger and guide for the week. His energy, knowledge, care and skill just really made our holiday so incredibly special. I would highly recommend requesting him as your ranger if you choose to go to Bayethe. He will elevate your experience. - Finally the safari itself, again it went above and beyond my expectations. It's such a beautiful reserve with diverse landscapes and incredible animals. We saw everything we wanted (apart from leopard, which is very lucky to see). I was so excited to go out each day and immerse myself in the experience. From our game drives, to walking safari, water/boat safari to sunset drinks and nibbles in the bush or the hot water bottles in the mornings and the hot towels and drinks on our return. Every detail is thought about and executed exceptionally. If i could give it more then 5 stars I would. Highly recommend and can guarantee you'll have a truly once in a lifetime experience.

Schotia Safaris Private Game Reserve, located near Addo Elephant National Park, offers an unforgettable safari experience. As the oldest private game reserve in South Africa's Eastern Cape, it boasts a diverse range of wildlife including lions, rhinos, and elephants. The stunning landscapes provide a picturesque backdrop for observing over 40 mammal species in their natural habitat.
We had an unforgettable experience at Schotia Private Game Reserve! We saw an incredible number of animals up close — lions, elephants, hippos, giraffes, and many more. Our guide, Fontaine, was fantastic: knowledgeable, passionate, and full of great stories. He made every game drive both exciting and informative. Our lodge far exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, beautifully furnished, and incredibly cozy. It even had a bathtub in addition to a large shower — perfect for relaxing after a day out in the bush. The food was delicious, and the communal meals around the fire created such a warm, welcoming, and social atmosphere. We truly enjoyed chatting with other guests and the guides in the evenings — it made the whole experience even more special. A particular highlight for us was the thoughtful care and attention shown to my husband, who has a mobility impairment. The staff were incredibly supportive and accommodating. Since he couldn’t climb into the open vehicles, they made sure he had a comfortable front seat next to the driver — which allowed him to fully enjoy the safari experience without any stress. We can’t recommend Schotia highly enough — it was one of the most memorable parts of our trip to South Africa!

Great staff and rangers as well! Don't think twice, just book this experience!!!

We had an amazing time with the full day safari that we booked with Schotia Safaris. First part of the day was a visit to Addo Elephanh park, we were literally surrounded by hundreds of elephants, only 1 meter from our van! This was the best guide you could imagine. Very knowledgeable and funny person which made our tour 1000 times better. In the evening there is a lovely dinner served in the park itself. This day was one of the highlights of our trip!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Schotia Safaris. Our guide (Edward) was knowledgeable and funny - he ensured we had a pleasant stay. The food was delicious and we enjoyed meeting other guests around the campfire at night - songs were sung and sighting-highlights of the day were discussed. Whilst the accommodation we had booked was rustic, we thought the Bush Camp was well equipped, the beds were comfortable and the experience of sleeping inside a gamepark was thrilling! The guided tours were well led by Edward, whose game vehicle was well-prepared for all weather by having both blankets and ponchos available for when it rained. Schotia’s close proximity to Addo allowed us to enter the National Park for a day as well. Our highlights at Schotia included seeing lions eating a waterbuck, laughing around the fire, the bush walk and of course the great food. Would definitely recommend - a huge thanks to Justin for having us, and Edward for guiding us.

Tooth and claw drive recommended by lodge owner. Amazing experience. 4 hour drive with Scott. Very passionate and knowledgeable. Followed by meal and drinks around open fire. Arrived about 2.30 left 9.30. So much to see. Loved every part of the experience

We did the tooth and claw tour with Zane, started 14:00 and ended at 20:00. What a knowledgeable and passionate guide. The vehicle was comfortable and water and a blanket provided at every seat. We saw a huge number of animals which was amazing and we got super close to get some awesome pics. We stopped for refreshments around 16:00 then headed back into the park. At 18:00 made our way to the lappa, a beautiful camp in the middle of the park where dinner was prepared for us. After dinner we did a night drive back to the main entrance. This tour was such a lovely experience and highly recommend Schotia Safaris. They really offer the most remarkable tour and provide you with all the information about all of the animals. Big thank you to Jenny & Peter and of course our guide Zane. We can’t wait to do it again

Wat an amazing place this is. Was here in 2012 and now back. Our ranger Andries was so nice. I would recommend you ask for him! He had a lot to tell and show us. The dinner and music was lovely as was the cat. The accommodation was also very cosy, it was nice to go to sleep and wake up with the sound of birds.

Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
Adrenalin Addo Adventure Park offers an exhilarating experience in the Sundays River valley, featuring the highest, longest, and fastest double zip line in South Africa. Visitors can also enjoy a giant swing, canoe rides, and stunning views of the surrounding orchards. The park's friendly and safety-conscious staff ensure a memorable adventure for all ages. Additionally, there are options for different adrenaline levels and a snack cafe overlooking the river.
Exhilarating, prices are affordable and there is a great variety of activities with knowledgeable staff. Depending on which side you come from, the 4x4 route is shorter and the route for low clearance vehicle is 1h10 l min long(double of the 4x4 route. The entire drive to the location will take you through the citrus vein of the Eastern Cape. Accommodation on site is available. I bought tickets on line and also did my check in online. This is money we'll spent. To zip line you can either hike up or take a 4 wheeler at a cost

Our family visited Adrenalin Addo Adventure Park on the 27th of September after making a booking on Friday the 26th. We were 4 people incl. 2 visitors from NZ. The road to Addo was horrible and very unsafe with many reckless drivers. It would have been great if the Adventure Park would have informed us about the roadworks and suggested a alternative road to get to Adrenalin Addo safely. We arrived after 11 and we found a quite Park with no one on site to guide us were to go. The gardener who was busy in the front ran to us and instructed us where to go. We walked down the road got to the container shop not knowing how to proceed. We ordered some coffee (Not recommended for coffee lovers) from the friendly ladies who then told us where to go. We were a little bit disappointed as one would expect someone like the owner to meet your guests in the front, greet you and assist you with everything. When we got to the front deck area the guys on site started chatting and explaining everything to us. The staff was very friendly and polite but one would expect staff with neat clean uniforms not shirts with huge holes and damaged shoes etc. The indemnity form QR code was given to us but we struggled a bit as not everyone's smart phone could scan the QR code and I needed to download a QR app in order to fill in the form. No printed forms was available on site. We climbed on the scale to check everyone's weight for safety reasons and then of to the harness room. The guys were very good and friendly in kitting us out with safety harnesses etc. They knew what they were doing. One of the biggest let downs for all of us was when the guys handed us the helmets. The helmets was dirty / filthy! some looked damaged with no inside padding and very unhygienic. We complained but as we already paid the day before we had no choice. No sanitizer on site to clean the helmets, no hairnets for clients or ladies. The dirty / damaged helmet's was a big let down for us. The next let down after paying over R2600 for the adventure was when the staff kitted us out and then gave us an option to walk up the steep hill where the ride begins at the top or pay them another R75 per head for a 4x4 ride to the top. This is a sure way to kill any tips which one would have given the staff. Surely these harnesses could have been stored at the top of the hill? To kit a client out with heavy harnesses and bags etc. and then tell them to pay more or else walk up the hill, with no complimentary water bottles is just a big NO and let down. Our second ride our NZ guests payed for the optional 4x4 trip to the top. One would expect a 4x4 bakkie or Land Rover like vehicle but after walking up a steed hill maybe 300 meters to the 4x4 area we were greeted by a friendly staff member with a mini 4x4 quad bike like vehicle. Not what we expected for R75 per head. Anyway climbed on top and the guys starts the mini JD quad like truck and speeds to a steep hill where he screams "HOLD ON " at every hill. The path was steep, many loose rocks. This little 4x4 quad like truck felt very unsafe racing up the hills to the top and nobody was instructed to put their helmets on for safety. The guy driving was friendly, funny but this was very very unsafe. Adrenalin Addo Adventure Park was a great experience. It is something I will recommend to others but the owner needs to relook at their way of operation. SAFETY, THE EQUIPMENT, UNIFORMS AND HYGENE was a huge let down for us. I know the website states no self braais, but for us coming for Port Elizabeth this would have been great. We had everything but had to go and braai inside Addo Game Park May I also suggest a few 4mp IP cameras at the top recording your experience as well as another camera halfway and at the bottom recording your visitors ride / experience down. A TV screen at the bottom to view what's going on at the top as well as displaying the ride down will be a great advantage. This video or pictures can be saved to a memory card and sold to the visitors for a extra income. Definitely a experience I will do again.

Wowweeeeeee!!! Katie, Ryan and their team gave us an absolutely incredible experience. Everyone was so hospitable. They even had a plan to get across even though the river was flooded! We got paddled across which was epic! Our first time doing the superman and goodness me was it a freeing experience. 100000% recommend making the trip by even if it is out of the way!!

Really, it's great. Everything is excellent, including the brand-new, brand-fresh equipment that feels really safe and enjoyable as well as the genuinely welcoming owners and staff who make you feel completely at home. In addition to the Gator ride, the hike up to the zipline is an amazing adventure in and of itself. To be honest, it's all really fantastic.

A great outing on any day! We felt safe and well managed to do it all, and so we did all their offers. Small note: as numbers rise again, and we worry about exposures, consider empowering staff to confidently tell people to observe COVID protocols, please? Keep them, us, and your business, safe. Great experience! Will be back. Also, Go Pro video rental would be great! Stay safe!

Exceptional service and staff! The 4x4 ride was beautiful with an explanation of the citrus and tobacco farming. My 8 year old daughter was terrified but the staff managed to make her feel safe and at ease, then she wanted to zip line again! An exhilarating experience with superb staff. PS: the ice-cream is a must have! We will be back :)

What a fantastic experience. We did it as a family of 4. 2 adults, 13yo & 9yo. The kids absolutely loved it. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable & very safety conscious. The hike to the launch platform was a little tough for us, who are not very fit but was a breeze for the kids with awesome views of the orchards surrounding Addo. Also got a glimpse of the final resting place of Sir Percy Fitzpatrick! Zipline itself was all adrenaline. What a rush!

Crisscross Adventures offers a variety of safari experiences in Addo Elephant National Park. The knowledgeable and courteous guides provide insightful information about the wildlife, history, and habitats during the safaris. Visitors can opt for a self-drive but are likely to see fewer animals without the expertise of the guides. The tours are well-organized, safe, and allow ample time to observe diverse wildlife including elephants, zebras, ostriches, and more.
Amazing day with Denisley. We were lucky to get his instinct to drive us straight to a couple of lions in the morning. His knowledge on wildlife was limitless. We were not sure what to expect for the lunch, but the braii was delicious and the salad super fresh. Thank you very much for making our holiday special.

My husband and I did the quadbike adventure with Crisscross Adventures. At first we start off slow between the citrus and then it got more adventures and more technical....that was so much fun. Our guide was amazing. He told us all about the area and the farm and he took lots off photo's and videos for us. There is also a strava segment "Chrislin Lodge Loop". We can't wait to come back for mire adventures with Crisscross Adventures.

Had the best day ever on Safari with crisscross adventures!! Got taken in open top safari across addo and Schotia safari reserve, saw zebra, giraffe, elephants, rhinos, many antelope and deer, wilder beasts, warthogs and buffalo! Densley was an incredible driver and so knowledgeable about all the animals - we even got treated to an amazing cooked lunch and many snacks and drinks. Densley went out of his way to ensure we saw all the animals and took great care of us, giving us ponchos for when it started to rain - thank you!!

We had a nice Safari trip through the Addo National Park. Unfortunately, there is some miscommunication between this company and the get your guide (app). There are several wrong information provided by the get your guide. So the get your guide inform you that you need to have the cash with you to pay the entry to the park. Well unfortunately you cannot use cash because it's a cashless facility. Also, the app states that the activity starts at 2:00. This is not true. You have to be at the national park gate at 2:00 which means you have to be at tour operator 1:30. That's when the actual activity starts. So when we thought we were perfectly on time we were late. They inform us on arrival. Also the description of the vehicle should be better as we thought we will have the real Safari experience with open vehicle. The vehicle we used was completely closed . Only the windows were possible to open.

Had a brilliant full day tour with Densley in an open top safari. Went around Addo and Schotia and managed to see 4 of the big 5 even on a rainy day where animals were being more shy. Very knowledgeable, skilled driver and also felt well looked after. A fantastic lunch provided and all around top experience!

Great tour in Addo! Communication with Criss Cross went smoothly. Prices are a bit high, but perfect quality. Our guide, Stephan, was very very knowledgeable. At the park he spotted the lions elephants. The guides from different companies contact eachother on the sightings of that moment. These you would never encouter so fast when visiting with your own vehicle. We had braai lunch at the park at a resting area. Lunch was great Thanks again!

I did an open vehicle full day safari with crisscross adventures and it was just amazing. We had the best guide, Steven, who was just wonderful and never got tired of answering questions and explaining things. We saw 4 of the big 5, had a thrilling encounter with a rhino and saw many other animals. I can just recommend booking a Safari with Crisscross Adventures.

Addo Cruises & Sand Sledding offers an exhilarating experience for adventure seekers. The boat cruise provides a chance to spot various bird species along the river while learning about the local flora and fauna. The sand sledding activity is described as an adrenaline rush, perfect for those with a competitive spirit. Visitors praise the friendly hosts and welcoming atmosphere, making them feel at home right away.
What an amazing day out with Captain Les! We loved exploring the river, and the sledging was incredible. I’ve tried sledging on dunes in Chile and other places, but the design Les created for these sledges is truly unique—safe for kids and even lets you glide on the water. I also appreciated how connected he is to the land and the river. Such a fantastic day out with the family!

Beautiful cruise, stunning scenery, and the most fun sandsledding. Les was very friendly and welcoming. The dunes are breathtaking. You have to be a little fit to walk up the dunes... definitely a recommended experience, the water was a bit cold to go into but will definitely be back to try the slide down to the water.

First time and this was an awesome experience. Beautiful dunes and the owner Les is very accommodating and we also enjoyed the ferry ride to the dunes. Total duration with cruise and dunes was approx two hours. Will certainly do this sledding activity again. Thanks Les, really enjoyed the experience.

A friend and I went on a boat cruise and sand sledding experience with Addo Cruises and Sand Sledding in December 2018. It was incredible! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and pointed out various bird species along the river whilst giving us interesting facts about the fauna and flora of the area. The sand sledding was an adrenaline rush like no other and, after the nervousness faded away on the first slide down a sand dune, I couldn't get enough of it! I can highly recommend this to everyone - young and old! It's a must!

The Daniell Cheetah Project offers a Predator Tour where visitors can see cheetahs, lions, servals, caracals, and leopards. The project is also home to a friendly community of meerkats. It's a great family outing with well-trained guides who provide detailed explanations about the animals. The environment is safe for children of all ages, and there's a big playground under an enclosed net with birds. Visitors can also find souvenirs at the shop.
It is a lovely place with a rustic shop. We took a guided tour around the property with lovely facts about the different wild cats, meerkats, and hyenas and the conservation efforts to protect these animals. It's worth stopping by for a visit!

With the experience we had, I really think we underrate the establishment. There is such a focus on education, exposure, and just sheer engagement. The tour started a few.minutes later but it helped us to settle in. When the tour started there was no real announcement, so we just followed the other people. A suggestion would be to check with all the guests at the restaurant if they are there for a tour, or just make a loud and clear announcement. The staff are quite knowledgeable and passionate about the animals and the habitat. It was a distinct pleasure to be exposed to the feline that was cared for at the Cheetah Project. Well done on a well kept establishment!

Average when compared to what the brand used to be. Clothing not as high quality and as nice. I have three billabong hoodies from 10 years ago and they still going strong, but nothing here is as good as those. Not as much effort put into designing and manufacturing as the old days. Just slapping the logo on a normal shirt and having that shirt in 3 colours is not what you expect from this brand. Up your game please

Nature & Parks
Kragga Kamma Game Park is a nature preserve located just a short drive from the city, offering a sanctuary for various rare animal species such as white rhinos, buffalos, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, nyalas, bonteboks, and lechwes. Visitors can opt for self-drives or moderately priced guided game drives to observe these animals in their natural habitat.
I loved it! It’s beautiful, secluded and has the best views of the sunset and sunrise. Staff was amazing and friendly, morning game driver super lekker. Food was okay, overall, stunning place for a retreat.
NOTHANDO S — Google review
I was hoping to see rhinos or giraffes on my own and therefore chose the self-drive option in the park. According to the description, the roads were supposed to be well-maintained and suitable for regular vehicles. However, this does not reflect the reality at all. The tracks are in such condition that driving without an SUV or 4x4 is problematic – especially due to the low ground clearance of standard cars. If it rains, some parts could even become dangerous. In my opinion, the phrase “well-maintained roads” is highly exaggerated and misleading, especially for rental car drivers. I immediately aborted the drive and exited the park again – I didn’t see any animals, but I didn’t mind. My car is more important to me. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I would only recommend the self-drive if you have a proper off-road vehicle. That said, I want to mention that the young man at the gate was very kind, friendly, and helpful.

Came to the Kragga Kamma Game Park for a self drive viewing. I sure wish I was told to bring a car with a high suspension as the trails do get a bit tricky as you drive, but seeing the different animals and at your own pace is definitely something I recommend. Some of the animals actually come closer to the cars so you can stop and view or take pictures of them. Definitely a great experience and it's R150 a person which is quite affordable 😊

What a beautiful place! With home made jams and bottled foods and sauses to pick from. We had delicious milo and strawberry milkshakes and I enjoyed a big slice of a deliciously moist carrot cake. We highly recommend everyone to stop at Tolbos and enjoy all they have to offer!

Next time when you state rump on the menu, please let it be rump. Next time when one order a single shot, please let it not be a double. We must still be able to drive.

Tolbos Shop is an experience. It has a tranquil garden as well as inside seating for it's cafe. They serve all sorts of things. I was there for brunch and had the poached eggs on an open role that was excellent. Their coffee is good but not enough to travel far too get. There is a chicken coop and a kids play and climb area. Inside is a lovely little shop selling home made soaps, sweets and wines. It was quite tempting. If you are short on cash then don't let your wife in there😀.

Absolutely loved the ride here. We did a late afternoon ride and the guide did well to make everyone feel comfortable and safe but also used his knowledgeable discretion to make the ride enjoyable for experienced riders as well. The horses are amazing and sweet, enjoy their work and overall they did amazing. The guide even chose a scenic spot to help everyone get beautiful photos. Recommend this ride for riders of all levels! Great experience and Absolutely beautiful beautiful getaway from the hustle of busy holiday towns.

We had a wonderful and magical time with our guide Giant. We were quite lucky being only the 2 of us for this ride. My partner being more of a beginner/intermédiaire and myself an advanced rider, we both had a blast. Giant really was accommodating to both of us. The landscape is just magical, going through the bushes, up the sand dunes and then on the beach. A dream come true. Horses are well taken care of, they look healthy and happy. They gave us horses according to our level of riding. Perfect experience. We would love to come back and would definitely recommend this place.

Absolute Delight 😊. What an amazing experience for my boyfriend's birthday. The guide definitely deserves a raise because wow Giant did his thing and was very reassuring. My horse, Sky was a wildcard and I Absolutely loved it, Sky knew what she was doing, well trained and absolute Gentle with me🫠😊😊but that didn't stop me from enjoying. My Partner had such a fun time as well. Lol he went from a beginner to an expert within the 2hours. Thank you Papiesfontein Beach Horse Rides. What an Experience 🤩🤩🤩

We had the most incredible time at Papiesfontein Beach Horse Rides! As beginner riders, we felt completely at ease thanks to our amazing guides, Casandra and Giant, who were patient, friendly, and professional from start to finish. The ride itself was absolutely breathtaking — endless stretches of beach, rolling dunes, and stunning coastal views that left us in awe. It was the perfect blend of adventure and serenity. Thank you, Casandra and Giant, for making this such a memorable experience! We can’t wait to come back. 🐎✨

Been here many times and done the beach ride. Horses are well looked after, fit for purpose and kind. They are well trained and know the drill. They match you with the best horse for your confidence and ability (so be honest). Guides make sure you are safe. You don't do anything you don't feel comfortable with. The scenery is breathtaking. Galloping on the beach was wonderful. So much fun. Our guide was so good she got photos and videos of us while galloping. True horsemanship and riding. A MUST DO in Jeffreys Bay!

To the owners of Papiesfontein Beach Horse Rides. I post this notice for all to read because we have had a fantastic experience this past weekend. My fiancé to be and I got engagement on the dunes overlooking J-Bay. Our tour guide, Jan, played along beautifully to make it a memorable experience for us, one which we will never forget. We wish to compliment the staff of Papiesfontein Beach Horse Rides, especially Nathan who went out of his way to assist with the arrangements for the surprise engagement. Jan that played the key role had excellent timing in setting the scene for me to make the move. Many thanks to the staff of Papiesfontein Beach Horse Rides, you guys made our day. Once again (4 years later from the day above) we had such a great experience today! This team caters for everyone from beginners to advance. Thank you guys!!
