Hiking Trails
The St. Blaize Hiking Trail is a popular 13.5-kilometer route in Mossel Bay, South Africa, offering breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and rugged cliffs. Named after the moss-covered St. Blaize Lighthouse, this trail takes hikers through beautiful gorges with stunning fynbos and sea vistas. The path runs along the cliff edges in some areas, providing an exhilarating experience for nature lovers and photographers alike.
It’s a wonderful hike with breathtaking views, just be prepared for some rocky terrain towards Dana Bay’s side of the hike, and take plenty of water along; there is a tap to refill water at the entry to Pinnacle Point golf estate(from Mosselbay’s side 6km into the hike), through which the trail passes. Shade is scarce so hike early in the morning with sun protection. The hike should take 6 hours.
Eben M — Google review
It’s a beautiful hike. Definitely best to do it at spring low tide. There are plenty rocks to navigate. I wouldn’t suggest doing it barefoot. The rock pools are amazing. The water was crystal clear. One beach is covered with the most gorgeous pebbles. Not suited for young kids.
Marie V — Google review
Beautiful coastal hike along stunning cliffs! Follow the little white bird drawn on the rocks along the path. My partner and I started at the lighthouse in Mosselbay, ended at the pinnacle golf estate club house and took a taxi back. It took us ~3hrs. Apple Watches recorded ~10km. Important: Towards the end of the hike you will have to cross through the golf estate. It’s fenced in but they let hikers pass before 4pm. Make sure to be there on time, otherwise you’ll have to hike back … Make sure to wear appropriate shoes, sunscreen and a hat. Also, keep an eye out for dolphins!
Laura L — Google review
Beautiful hiking trail! Stunning view! Gorgeous cliffs and caves and rocky coast line. Path is not very tough. You can easily hike. Even my 4yrs old daughter hiked with my help.
Mothusi — Google review
We did the full 13.5 km starting at Dana Bay. It’s easier to get a taxi from Mossel Bay than to get a taxi to pick you up in Dana Bay, so start your hike in Dana Bay and hike towards Mossel. Do the whole trail or part of it, but don’t miss this hike if you’re in the area. It’s amazing and one of the most beautiful trails in her world!
J B — Google review
What an incredible scenery. Really worth the hike. Take enough water. Clearly marked with bird sign. Once you are at the security gate you will enter the golf estate and will sign in. It is 9km all the way to the pinnacle clubhouse if you start at the light house. The trail really got scary at pinnacle point when we had to walk on the edge of the cliff. We also had to duck and dive for the golf balls. Some of the bridges steps are broken and not attended to. We also did not see alot of bird signs while going in the estate. The clubhouse offered ice cold drinks, which was lovely. We got a bolt to take us back to the hotel.
Carina A — Google review
An amazing hiking trail with spectacular views of the wild ocean. It is a 13.5km hike between Mossel Bay point to Dana Bay which takes around 5 hours to complete. There are some climbing and uphill areas with a total elevation gain of 425 meters. The trail was mostly well marked. There are no shade so recommend to do the hike early morning or on cloudy days. Loved the experience and will definitely do it again.
Anze W — Google review
I only did a small part of the hike near the lighthouse which is close to the town and parking lot. It’s a nice trail with cute little rabbit like animals along the trail. There is also a cave at this part of the trail introducing some history. You can also see the zip lining here.

Gift shop
Safari Ostrich Farm is a long-standing family-owned establishment that spans 1,800 hectares and offers guided tractor tours, a gift shop, and a cafe. Founded in 1956 as an educational site about ostriches, the farm has transformed into a popular attraction while still staying true to its original mission.
It was a really great experience. We had a lot of fun on the safari tour. The guide was friendly and shared interesting facts about ostriches. We were able to take lots of amazing pictures. Feeding the ostriches was a real highlight. The facility itself is very clean. There’s a great playground and an on-site restaurant with plenty of seating.

Fantastic experience. Great tour guide. Lovely place. Clean and well maintained tractors that you ride on. Its a must for a family outing. Also not expensive to visit and enjoy. 100stars for all involved.
Askmonique S — Google review
★★★★☆ Interesting experience, but expected a bit more It was a nice visit to the Safari Ostrich Farm and definitely interesting to learn about the history of ostriches in South Africa — especially that they originally came from Asia. The tour was informative and well-organized by Samuel and seeing the birds up close was a unique experience. However, I expected a bit more in terms of interactivity or size. Still, worth a stop if you’re in the area and curious about these fascinating animals.
Hachim — Google review
Nice experience. We get a guided tour of the farm in a tractor trailer , while the guide gave us explanations about ostriches. There is a big space where the birds are sitting, a small exchibition and a shop and a restaurant where we ordered ostrich stake. There is a big parking place, in the yard. There is a schedule of groups visits. You can buy food in the shop and feed the ostriches directly from the car.
Mihaela C — Google review
I became fascinated by ostriches after seeing them on the roadside during a previous trip to Botswana, so when we were driving the Garden Route we made a small detour to visit Safari Ostrich Farm. We went on a tractor tour led by a friendly, outgoing guide who made the experience fun and informative. Afterwards, we got to feed the ostriches and learned more about them. The shop was also really good, with plenty of unique and interesting souvenirs. The manager/owner of the farm was incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially when our transport was delayed - something we were very grateful for.
Junaid A — Google review
Great place to see, feed and learn all about ostriches. Partly walking partly on the back of a tractor trailor. Knowledgeable staff and well organised tour. But use up your feed ( which you can buy for 5 rand) on the tractor your. The ostriches will come up to you to eat, very messily. Great opportunity for photo or videos up closer. Great information about ostriches which I won't spoil here, but you will be surprised and even amazed. Just could do with a bit more guidance for guests in how and when to use the feed.
Andrew S — Google review
Enjoyable and informative tour to Safari Ostrich Farm. Didn't know a lot about Ostrichs but after the guided tractor tour into the paddock and museum with Bronwin we came out knowing a lot more. Make no mistake, Ostrichs are HUGE! Only when they run up to the tractor and tower over you do you get an idea of their size. They are inquisitive birds but feed them at your own risk! I bought a bucket of food for R5 and they came running to eat. Their coordination isnt so great and in their frenzy one bit my thumb (im ok), food went everywhere and another snatched the bucket by the handle and out of the tractor it went. We drove slowly through various paddocks then got out to walk and see emus and ostriches from the safety of behind fences. We finished up in a museum showing various anatomy displays, incubators, leather and feather making processes. Bronwin was great! He had a very easy listening voice and was very knowledgable. There is a large giftshop onsite selling a wide variety of goods including ostrich leather articles, painted eggs, egg lights etc. The cafe onsite has light meals and ostrich biltong for sale. See cafe review for food review.
Timeshare C — Google review
Excellent tour guide. Tour by tractor driven carts to see different breeds of Ostrich. Then walking tour finishing in incubator house. On site toilets and dining and cafe.

The Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex is a maritime site that offers a glimpse into Mossel Bay's early significance for European sailors. Named after the 15th-century Portuguese explorer, Bartholomeu Dias, the complex features a life-sized model of his sailing vessel and an aquarium. Visitors can start their journey at the museum shop, which showcases various souvenirs including handmade caravels.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much there was to see and experience at the Bartolomeu Dias Museum – all for just R10 entrance! The variety of exhibits was impressive, from the maritime displays to the Shell Museum, and even the historic Post Office Tree. It’s such a well-kept, informative, and peaceful place, perfect for both adults and kids. One of the highlights was the life-size replica of Dias’s caravel – even though we couldn't go on board, it was still awe-inspiring to see up close. The ethnobotanical garden added a lovely natural touch to the visit, and the aquarium with live molluscs was fascinating. Overall, this museum offers incredible value and a great way to spend a few hours soaking in some local history and nature. Highly recommend it to anyone passing through Mosslbay 👌🏻

5/5 Stars - A Must-Visit for History and Art Lovers! The Diaz Museum in Mossel Bay is an absolute gem! My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. I was particularly captivated by the impressive collection of paintings and the intricately detailed ship models, which truly bring the history of maritime exploration to life. It's a wonderful place to spend a few hours immersing yourself in the rich heritage of the region. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an engaging and informative experience, especially if you appreciate art and historical artifacts!

It was fantastic. Loved the curio shop. The history and the well maintained Aquarium. Overall a wonderful experience after many years. Kids also loved it.
Askmonique S — Google review
We visited the Bartolomeu Dias Museum in Mossel Bay and really enjoyed it. The grounds are spacious and beautifully maintained, and the exhibits are well presented. We especially loved the shell museum and the life-size replica of Dias’s caravel — both are fascinating and worth seeing. The museum offers a great mix of history and natural beauty, and it’s easy to spend a few relaxing hours exploring. The only small downside was that the ladies’ bathroom didn’t have toilet paper, but otherwise everything was excellent. Definitely worth a stop if you’re travelling the Garden Route — a well-run and interesting museum with lots to see and learn.
Alet P — Google review
I was very pleasantly surprised by this museum. From the outside, it looks quite unassuming, but there’s so much more than meets the eye. Inside, everything is neat, well-maintained, and thoughtfully presented. The maritime museum is packed with fascinating information, and the shell museum was an unexpected highlight—with a fun mix of aquarium exhibits and display cases showcasing an incredible variety of shells. A great experience overall!

The Diaz Museum is situated at Mossel Bay, great collection and very rich in history. If you like the history, this is place you must visit.
Gavin K — Google review
Not too badly priced to enter. Very well maintained with an additional aquarium and shell exhibit. Beautiful gardens and very educational. Well worth a visit. Id highly recommend coming here
Duwayne P — Google review
Enjoyed our visit to the museum! Lots of information available, however feel this a opportunity missed. There are so much more that can be done to make the museum more interactive and maybe add a “show” factor to it. It is a stage screaming for a production and the facilities are there, it should just be made use of! But overall a great visit for history lovers!

We had a great time on the tour. Our guide shared lots of interesting information about ostrich farming and made sure we were having fun. We also had the chance to feed them and play with baby ostriches. There’s also a restaurant serving ostrich dishes and a nice souvenir shop.

What a great experience! From the moment we arrived, we were greated with welcoming smiles and excellent service. Tour is very interesting - we thought we knew about ostriches but there was so much we learnt! Our guide, Hermes, was very knowledgeable and entertaining, and took the time to ensure everyone got an opportunity to capture unique photos or videos. Easy walking, safe parking, lovely spot to have a drink under the trees before the tour and an interesting gift shop to finish off afterwards. Great value for money - would highly recommend (and not just for international visitors). Thank you so much for an awesome time!

We went for wine tasting, and we were had such an amazing experience. The wine pairings were well presented and amazing to taste. The food after was out of this world. Compliments to the Chef 👨‍🍳 . We really had a nice time and the atmosphere is relaxed and the view is beautiful. Thank you, Jakkalsvlei. We really had a great time.

We had a lovely experience at Jakkalsvlei absolutely worth the scenic drive out to this farm. We reserved a 1pm seating and arrived early which meant we could enjoy a tasting at the shed. I understand the shed was opened in December which is a lovely treat, you get your tasting glass as a gift for any tasting. We did not opt for a tasting but rather a bottle of their piontage rose which was served on the lake with beautiful views. At the restaurant we did various pairings which was lovely. A stand out was their MCC we ordered a bottle for the table. The hostess was friendly and set up the table for us as our friends were celebrating their anniversary this was a special touch thank you! We enjoyed the food; recommend calamari starter and lamb shank for mains. We also ordered the pork belly and fillet chicken too which was lovely. We had a lovely afternoon! Tip: The bar downstairs only offers drinks per bottle not per glass. We love the tent downstairs, great atmosphere.

We popped into Jakkalsvlei on a rainy 1 November without a booking and were welcomed so warmly by the friendly staff and a cozy kaggelvuur! The restaurant was packed, but we were happy to sit at the wine tasting bar where Riaan looked after us. He was absolutely fantastic — funny, knowledgeable, and full of great stories about the wines, the Jakkalsvlei farm, and the Mossel Bay area. He really made our wine tasting memorable and gave us such a great Jakkalsvlei experience! The tasting options are excellent, the wines are superb, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. The drive to the farm is also beautiful. We’ll definitely be back soon! 🍷

Garden Route Game Lodge is a family-owned safari lodge near Mossel Bay, offering a luxurious African-themed stay. The lodge provides stunning views and warm hospitality, with spacious rooms and excellent service. Guests can enjoy morning game drives with complimentary drinks and snacks to see an abundance of wildlife, including the Big Five. The lodge also offers a spa, restaurant, pool, and free breakfast and dinner daily. Visitors have praised the lodge for its relaxing atmosphere and attentive service during game drives.
Our stay at Garden Route Game Lodge was nothing short of incredible, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, every aspect of our visit was five-star. The staff across the entire lodge are consistently friendly, immensely helpful, and clearly very knowledgeable. They truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The game drive experience was the absolute highlight, thanks to our amazing guide, Janel. She was truly exceptional! Janel was not only skilled at spotting wildlife but also incredibly engaging. She taught us so much about all the different species they have on the property, making every drive an enriching and educational experience. And then there's the food, it was beyond anything I have ever experienced at a lodge. Every meal was mouth-wateringly good, showcasing impressive quality and variety. What's more, the service in the dining area was always incredibly fast and attentive. I would wholeheartedly recommend Garden Route Game Lodge to anyone looking for a world-class experience. We will definitely be back!

We had an amazing stay at Garden Route. The staff was very welcoming and truly wonderful. Hewert greeted us with a warm smile and graciously showed us around. He was very knowledgeable about the facilities and gave us all the info we needed for our game drives. We started our stay with massages. The spa staff did an excellent job getting us to relax and set the mood just right for our stay. I HIGHLY recommend adding some spa services to your stay. Tim was our safari guide. We loved hearing all his stories. He did an amazing job making sure we saw some memorable moments. We saw a cheetah with a fresh kill. A sweet little rhino nursing. We even had a fun interaction between that same precocious rhino baby and the cheetah that was so much fun to watch. The buffalo and hippos were an amazing sight too. Tim’s knowledge of the animals, birds, and plant life was nothing short of an encyclopedia. His passion for the animals and the world around him is infectious and made us connect to the land even more. We stayed in the Luxury Family Suite with Pool. It was perfect size for us and our 15 year old daughter. The room was clean, beautiful, and very well appointed. We slept like rocks! We didn’t get a chance to use the outdoor tub but really wanted to. The plunge pool was heated! We were even able to get into the pool at night in September and star gazed for a bit. The dining facilities were wonderful and such a sanctuary. All the food was delicious and staff was very welcoming and took great care of us. Garden Route was the perfect safari choice for us. It is not commercial, not crowded and we loved the individualized boutique feel. We have no regrets booking our stay at Garden Route, our only regret was that we could only book for one night instead of 2 or 3 nights.

Absolutely loved this place. We had a luxury suite which overlooked the watering hole and open ground. Suite had baths and showers inside and out. Although plug didn't work for outside bath, so moved indoors. Showers were good. Good was excellent with options to try done if the game seen. Note this is sourced from a butcher not by the lodge themselves. Breakfast and dinner offered plenty of variety. The drives themselves were excellent. Our guide Hanre was every knowledgeable, funny and used his skills to get us to seea lot of animals. We were lucky to see the hippos in playful mode- fantastic. We also saw the Cheetahs close up. This is not the Kruger park so animal numbers are limited but the drives meet all our expectations we stopped off on each afternoon drive to have a drink and nibbles. I chose to miss the last morning drive for a massage and to use the adults only pool. There are pools for the kids too

First off, I just have to say how amazing the team at Garden Route Game Lodge is. Every single person we met from behind the scenes to those at the front made us feel so welcome and taken care of. They really went above and beyond to make our stay special. One of the biggest highlights of our trip was that the staff helped my partner plan the most romantic marriage proposal, it was absolutely perfect and something we’ll never forget. Everything about our stay was spot on. The service felt personal and friendly, the food was delicious, and the game drives were such a great mix of fun and informative. We were lucky enough to see all of the Big 5, which made it even more memorable. The private dining experiences were a beautiful touch, and there were so many thoughtful little details throughout our stay that made it feel really special. Huge thanks to everyone at Garden Route Game Lodge for making it such an unforgettable trip. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

My recent stay at the Garden Route Game Lodge was truly unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm hospitality, stunning surroundings, and a deep sense of connection to nature. The lodge itself is beautifully maintained, blending luxury with the authentic African bush atmosphere. What made the experience even more remarkable were the game drives. Every outing felt unique and full of surprises—whether it was spotting giraffes gracefully moving across the plains, zebras grazing peacefully, or the thrill of watching lions in their natural habitat. A special mention must go to Hewart, our game driver. He was absolutely exceptional. Hewart combined professionalism with genuine passion, and his knowledge of wildlife was outstanding. He had an incredible eye for spotting animals, even from a distance, and always took the time to explain their behaviors, habits, and conservation importance. What impressed me most was how he made the drives both educational and exciting—always ensuring we had the best vantage points while also respecting the animals and their environment. Thanks to Hewart, every game drive felt personal and meaningful. His enthusiasm was contagious, and he made sure everyone in the vehicle felt engaged and cared for.

Wow, awesome experience! Even the locals (Heidelberg, W. Cape) of our group enjoyed it. Excellent, friendly service from all. Did a 2 and half hour game drive with a lovely and very entertaining guide who clearly knew her stuff! Had a scrmptious lunch afterwards in restaurant - great value for a great experience! Definitely recommend it!

Such a great trip! The lodge is about 4 hours from Cape Town but worth every minute as it was such good value for money (compared to other SA safaris) and we saw 4/5 of the Big 5 in our 2 days there. We also saw Cheetahs which were awesome!! The guide we had, Janco, was absolutely unbelievable - so knowledgable and passionate. He made our trip! The facilities were also lovely! I couldn’t recommend this place more.

A wonderful stop over! The service is excellent. From the time you enter until you pay. Great service from Tauriq. The food was fresh and delicious. The ice-cream was delicious and definitely worth the visit. Yummy gin tasting experience. Highly recommended:)

Best pit stop ever! What a lovely experience! The Botanique cream liqueur is to die for! Tastes like crème brûlée in a jar! Such lovely staff and so informative and friendly! A very stylish place with chilled jazz playing in the back ground. Very relaxing. Ask for Girland!

Very Classy , Enjoyed the experience. Definitely a must visit if you drive past Still-bay. Their cocktails and Gin infused ice cream is a winner. (not recommended to bring young children with)

An unforgattable experience - superb gin, liqueur, rum and a staff component with energy, enthusiasm, sense of humour, efficient and very friendly. We had a great time. (and then I heard that they were only temperoray staff because the permanent staff were on a training course! Almost too good to believe!). People being the heart of the business! A highlight in many years of traveling around.

For the gin lovers.. this is a treat. I arrived on a Friday afternoon (out of busy season) expecting to wait, however I was greeted at reception and welcomed. Luckily it was not too busy and I was able to find a spot outside under the trees. There are plenty tables available.. more than one would expect. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and did great work in explaining the gin tasting (I opted for the informal one). The experience is well worth the visit and a good gin or 3🙈 The food menu is small and limited however the portions are large. I would recommend sharing any of the sandwiches. And taste the ice cream… also large portions.. I didn’t do the tour or making my own you, however the staff were happy for me to browse around and ask questions. I really enjoyed the professional yet relaxed atmosphere and the attention to detail. There is even a cordial tasting for children. 😁 This is a must-do if you are in or around StillBaai.

Ronnies Sex Shop in Barrydale is a unique and entertaining stop along Route 62. Despite its name, it's actually a farm stall selling fresh produce. Ronnie and his wife are known for their captivating stories and the simple yet delicious food at affordable prices. The bar has a quirky character with visitors leaving their mark by adding their names or undergarments to the collection.
Ronnie's Sex Shop on Route 62 is a quirky and unique roadside stop that has become an iconic part of South Africa’s Route 62 experience. Despite its cheeky name, the shop is not about adult products – it offers a wide range of souvenirs, gifts, and memorabilia, making it an interesting and fun place to visit. The atmosphere is laid-back, with a quirky, rustic vibe, and visitors can enjoy a drink at the bar while taking in the eccentric surroundings. It's a great spot for a laugh, a photo op, and a quick break during a scenic drive along Route 62.

I have been to Ronnie’s Sex Shop 10 years ago. There is no comparison. It is very run down, no stock in the shop and NO wine. The response was that they had a busy season and have had no time to stock up. This was on 17 January. Big disappointment.
Marinda B — Google review
The recent video by French YouTuber Kino Yves documents an experience at Ronnie's Sex Shop.. Not a good one in the eyes of many South Africans. The individual behind the counter displayed a shocking lack of hospitality, treating a foreign visitor with an unprofessional and rude demeanor. While the price of R30 for a small, 200ml drink is concerning, the poor customer service is what truly stands out. Given the global reach of this video (already 28K views in 8 hours at the time of writing this), this incident could be incredibly damaging to your business's reputation and deter future tourism. I urge the management to address this behavior to ensure all visitors are treated with the kindness and respect South Africa is known for.

This stop is mandatory if travelling on Route 62. The adult milkshakes are a must.

To be honest the last time I was here was in the year 2000 when I was 13. We stayed at warmwaterberg for y2k. I remember it like it was yesterday. Dinner at Ronnies then back to the caravans, dad got Tig and Tag the sheep who my sister and I got to name the year before so pissed they were still laying asleep outside the caravan the next morning. I signed the champagne cork and hid it in a tree. Im 38 and live in New Zealand now. I really want to come back to visit S.A so I can visit. Such good memories here. If I make the trip back can I get a free beer hahaha

A visit to Ronnies Sex Shop on Route 62 is an absolute must. It's just an 18-minute drive from Barrydale, so resist the temptation to stop there first! Ronnie and his wife are incredibly entertaining and brimming with character, eager to share their fascinating stories. The food, while simple, is delicious, and the prices are the best you'll find in the area and its surroundings. The views are nothing short of breathtaking. Be sure to try their 18+ milkshakes; we indulged in the coffee and rum, as well as the Turkish delight and vodka flavors, and they were incredibly tasty. I'm definitely planning to return the next time we're in the area!

After watching and following Keno Eves, the cyclist from France on you Tube, I was disgusted on hom the "barman" treated Keno. He doesn't make eye contact, he doesn't stand up for a customer, hardly acknowledges his presence there, and worst of all...R30 for a can of cold drink!! Daylight robbery. Please review the video and decide for yourself....

Don't miss this Shop when you are interested into Afrikan masks, statues and tribal art. Harry has collected amazing objects from all over Afrika. I saw stuff from 400 to 12 000 R, but you also find souvenirs to moderate prices.
Anja S — Google review
A must see! Hardy is very knowledgeable about their collection of masks, thrones and other african artifacts. Some museums or collectors would be jealous of his collection. The prices are very fair, even the typical tourist-souvenirs are cheaper than anywhere else (even compared to streetmerchants!). Since covid they build new rooms so its not as packed/stuffed anymore. We try to visit Hardy and his amazing businesspartner Egi everytime we're in town :)

Beautiful African pieces available here, sourced from across Africa. They ship around the world, so no need to make space in your luggage. There is also a gift shop with small, more affordable goodies that make for wonderful gifts and souvenirs.

De Hoop Nature Reserve is an expansive 84,000-acre coastal and mountain reserve that offers a variety of activities such as whale watching and hiking. The reserve features 14km of rocky coastline, sandstone cliffs, and dunes covered with coastal fynbos. It's accessible from the Buffalo Bay road and provides camping sites with varying sizes, protection from elements, shade, and proximity to facilities.
We absolutely loved our stay at De Hoop Nature Reserve! Our two nights at the hotel were very comfortable and provided the perfect base for exploring this stunning coastal paradise. The highlight of our visit was joining the morning bird watching tour - such an incredible experience! We were amazed by the variety of birds and the knowledgeable guides. We would definitely come back to experience more of what this beautiful reserve has to offer. The hotel’s excellent service and comfortable rooms made our stay even more memorable. A perfect destination for anyone looking to experience South Africa’s natural wonders!

What an amazing experience! The trail wasn’t too tough for me, but fitness levels will vary. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and the huts are well-equipped—except for the last one, which is more basic. Be sure to stock up on supplies before entering the reserve. I’m so grateful to live in such a stunning country. I’d definitely do this hike again!

When you think you’ve seen it all… WHAT A PLACE. Absolutely stunning and impressive. Comparable to Cape of Good Hope but way more nature und less tourists. Totally love it. Had relatively bad weather but still insanely great. Did the 5km hike which is doable with a „basic stamina“. Paid R180 for 3 people. 100% worth it.

Lovely Nature Reserve Great to camp as generally not busy & sites private. Sites vary in size, protection from elements, shade, closeness to bathrooms etc so check carefully what would suit your camping equipment & the experience sought. Bathrooms are well serviced despite being a little old. Staff very friendly & hand soaps etc top class. Then there's the wash up area that provides dish soap, scourers, dish towels & replaced once used. Water pressure not the best if busy but water always hot. The reserve as a whole is a treasure chest for the adventure - plenty miles to bike, hike, snorkel, explore dunes,, spot animals & birds. There's tours offered, river cruises etc. There's a restaurant, pool & more and guests seem mainly international. Definitely worth a visit & staff are most welcoming & friendly.
Brenner K — Google review
A world class destination with well maintained amenities. The Bites beach cafe has a good selection of well priced meals with an out of this world whale sighting experience. There is a bit of a walk from the parking down to the cafe, but this is on a well paved dual track. This is accessible on an assisted wheelchair. The game viewing is authentic and unique, with loads of diversity in fauna and flora. Bring binoculars or a camera.

Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, located in Montagu and about a 3-hour drive from Cape Town, is an expansive 58,000-hectare rugged reserve nestled amidst the Anysberg and Warmwaterberg Mountains. It offers various accommodation options, with the Gondwana Family Lodge being ideal for a luxury family bush holiday. The reserve boasts unique indigenous flora and fauna, ancient rock art, and rare wildlife species.
Sanbona was stunning and offered a five star safari experience. Located in the Little Karoo about three hours from Cape Town, the expedition was first-class. The transportation provided was a must for reducing stress and arriving on-time so we could experience the evening game drive and a sunset cocktail overlooking the hippos. The food and service were outstanding, and our game driver, Marco, was superb! We saw giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions, cheetahs, hippos, zebras, and more. The early morning game drives were made comfortable with hot water bottles, coffee, and endless snacks. The picnic lunch overlooking the mountains and star-gazing Braai were also highlights of the trip. Sanbona was the perfect Safari option if you want to skip the trip to Kruger. Note: it is recommended to bring cash in Rand for tips. 350 Rand per couple per day for your safari guide and a daily staff tip at your discretion.

We had the most incredible time at Sanbona. It was the trip of a lifetime. Everything from the moment we arrived at the welcome lodge was absolutely perfect. Tilney Manor was so peaceful, comfortable and luxurious. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive and the service was impeccable. The food (and there was LOTS) was always delicious and varied. But nothing stands up to the incredible reserve. Our guide, Jordan, was such an expert and made our game drives truly unforgettable experiences. Every drive brought a new and wonderful experience - we saw giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions, cheetah, baboons, zebra, and much more! The conservation work and research they're doing is amazing! Can't recommend it more highly and we desperately want to go back!

Thank you so much for this wonderful stay. I have never experienced a vacation like this before – right in the middle of nowhere, yet so perfect. From the warm welcome at the Main Gate to the refreshing towels upon arrival at the lodge, everything was flawless. The friendliness of the managers, our guide Marco who gave us unforgettable moments, and the attentiveness of all the staff such as Ricardo, Nelly, and many others made our stay truly special. Every wish was taken care of with such thoughtfulness. This is a holiday that will remain in our hearts forever.

Sanbona was the highlight of our trip! The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, the food was incredible, and the views were outstanding whether you were out on safari, sitting by the pool, or simply sitting in your room. A fabulous time! We stayed in Tilney manor for 3 nights. Everything was exceptional. Such a beautiful experience seeing all the wildlife, Jan was our safari guide, he has experience is knowledgeable and ever so humorous to be around! Thank you to Tilney staff for management of our rooms, the delicious meals and an all round a memory my husband and I will reflect on for a lifetime! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for an ethical safari experience and still be close to Cape Town!

Sanbona was the perfect ending to our honeymoon—peaceful, unforgettable, and absolutely magical. The team was so welcoming and friendly, we truly felt at home. They even provided halal food for us and made sure we were taken care of at every moment. Our guide Janri was amazing—professional, kind, and knowledgeable. Thanks to him, we encountered lots of wildlife, including the Big Five, and learned so much along the way. The lodge managers were just as warm and made every detail feel special. We’re leaving today, but a piece of our hearts is still at Sanbona. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a luxury, authentic safari experience.

Did not realise it was another 1.5 hrs to the lodge from the entrance , my bad. However, that 1.5 hrs met with several springboks and an elephant along the way, which was so memorable. The accommodation was perfect , the best part of it was our ranger Yandry, he is so experience and took us to see the big 5s and provided so much knowledge for us to appreciate the animals. The rest of the staff were amazing as well. Irshaad who took care of us when we were dining, Monica was a great ambassador for Sanbona and a gentleman I forgot his name who met us at departure . The immaculate service eg the welcome hot towels when we came back from drives, the delicious and high quality food and beverage. It’s great value for what you pay for. Highly recommend.

The Drostdy Museum, located in Swellendam, South Africa, is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. The museum consists of several historical buildings showcasing the town's past and Dutch architecture. It houses period furnishings and craftsmen’s workshops from the 18th and 19th centuries. Additionally, visitors can explore a working wheat mill on its beautiful grounds. For dining options, there are restaurants nearby such as Field and Fork and The Republic offering local craft beer and gin.
Great visit, really informative. The staff are also very helpful. Good walk between the three sites, we made a whole day out of the visit, stopping at the cafés for lunch and ice cream then continuing on to the next sites

What a pleasant experience to visit the different exhibitions of the Drostdy Museum in Swellendam! When we arrived, we were welcomed by a very friendly lady who sold us entrance tickets and who gave us some background on the different exhibitions. We visited the old jail, the Drostdy House and the exhibition of wagons and carriages. It was clear that a lot of effort had been made to get the exhibits as complete as possible and to give a true-to-life version of Swellendam's history. Here an there it is clear that maintenance was outstanding, but overall the facilities and exhibitions left a good impression. Visitingthe museum when you visit Swellendam is a must.

Here is consisted in 3 areas apart from each other(3minutes by walk). The entrance fee is 80 rands per person. There are many interesting things(100-200 years old)in each building by its own theme. Like in smith house, you can see smith tools in 19th. It’ll take 1-2hrs depends on your style. Buildings are just fantastic when it combine with blue sky and mountain! Recommended!

We stopped at the Drostdy Museum to explore what it had to offer and found it absolutely fascinating. The old jail cells provided a sobering and thought-provoking experience, while the walk through the Ambagswerf or Trade Yard, was truly impressive and beautifully preserved. I loved every moment of it. Strolling through the Magistrate’s House and the courtroom felt like stepping back in time. If you have a passion for history, I highly recommend visiting this remarkable place.

Lovely, quaint museum located in the heart of Swellendam. It would be the perfect picnic spot and a great little walkabout. There was lots to learn about the history of Swellendam. The museum is divided into various sections and is free to the public. We went on a Sunday and enjoyed having the place to ourselves as we took our time exploring the complex.

Lovely museum in the fourth oldest town in South Africa. The three-site layout leads you to walk through the town a bit as well, giving you the opportunity to experience the calm atmosphere. The museum showcases colonial homes as they would have looked in the 18th and 19th century. One also cannot miss the second-oldest jail in South Africa! Definitely a must-see if you are in town

The park features well-maintained hiking trails that wind through diverse flora, perfect for both day visitors and those staying overnight in cozy rest camps.

The Bontebok National Park is conveniently located just off the busy N2 national road, making it easily accessible by any type of vehicle. It’s a perfect stop for day visitors looking to stretch their legs during a road trip. The park offers several short hiking trails and a cycling route, along with designated fishing spots along the river. It is one of the few National Parks that allows fishing, hiking, and cycling without restrictions, so you can enjoy the activities without worry. The park also provides facilities for overnight camping as well as accommodation in chalets. For more information, visit the SANParks website.
Pierre W — Google review
Disappointed by the state of the campsite after a long time of not visiting the reserve. The sites were small and provided little or no privacy from the next site. The biggest drawback of the whole camp was the dubbeltjie and tree thorns on the ground. The ground was also exceptionally hard and a mallet is advisable. The signage for the different trails was also very misleading and no indication of what to expect - rocky/thorny/steep inclines/declines. The one shorter trail required all 4's and holding onto plants/grass to avoid slipping in one place. The ablution block on the other hand was fantastic. Modern, clean and very accessible. There's a scullery with hot water and a food prep area with 4 plate electric plates, a microwave and a kwikot water heater with permanently available boiling water on tap. There are chalets available in the campsite, including 2 mobility challenged and 4 family. There are antelope & zebra to be seen and there is a 'game viewing' route, but this is not a big game reserve. The bird life is varied and depends on seasons. If the aloes are flowering/how high the river level is/how much rain has fallen. It can be wet. It can be cold and it can be extremely hot. The water at the camp is safe to drink, but be prepared for even changes in temperature between day and night.
Liz T — Google review
Amazing cooking facilities and ablution blocks but the lack of any information on the park or trails is unfortunate. No one at reception volunteered any. There is a notice at reception of the names and distance of the walks but nothing else. There are no maps of the area or indication of the terrain or difficulty of the trail. Trails are poorly signposted. The reception is very new but all exhibits are old and tired. Faded photographs with very little information. Bontebok park has a wealth of birds but not one photograph. The camp sites (only 3 with no power) were very thorny and felt in need of maintenace The views of the river are lovely but acess to the river from camp is challenging. A lot of money appears to have been spent on decoration and little on conservation. V sad

The Shipwreck Museum Bredasdorp offers a haunting yet captivating journey through the history of over 150 ships that met their fate along the treacherous coast of Cape Agulhas. From tales of gallantry during shipwrecks to artifacts salvaged from these maritime tragedies, the museum provides a glimpse into an era when seafaring was fraught with peril and adventure.
Excellently done and well maintained museum. We enjoyed it and found the place very interesting and informative.
John T — Google review
The museum is still well kept. Friendly staff. Clean toilets. We paid R35.00 per person. Lost of cool history. Over 200 ships sank along that coastal line.
Aldo T — Google review
Incredible collection of shipwreck artefacts and beautiful displays. Portrays the magnificance of these ships, the hardship of the impact, losses, survivors, the efforts to salvage and the rich history of each ship. Helpful staff can fill you in on items and answer questions. Thank you! Well worth the visit.
Hugo P — Google review
Interesting small museum. They display small items from shipwrecks around the area. Some other interesting stuff in display as well including an old house to showcase the way of life. There are a few coaches and a fire engine at the back as well. Entry Adults R30/ Kids R15. Staff were pretty helpful. Must stop if you are passing through the area.
Rick R — Google review
Excellent experience. I learned a lot about the shipwrecks and the local history. Really was a lovey little museum and I would visit again
David P — Google review
With all the lost ships around the coastal area there is very little information in the museum with stories or background around the wrecks. Expected more info. Why make the effort of keeping a museum with some good artifacts but so little around the history.
MikeV — Google review
It is a wonderful walk (or should that be sail?) through history when shipping was more than transporting goods and a leisure trip. Back then, it was how people travelled great distances and came with its unique set of challenges. The evidence of wrecks on display illustrate the pain of several lives lost so tragically – and the long time it must have taken for their families to be told. Nevertheless, the museum would do well to have guides or voice clips at the various displays to give some context for those who may not be familiar with the maritime history of Bredasdorp. Outside, you will find a great place to relax with benches placed in the shade and sunshine to cater to your taste. There are neat and clean (though small) bathrooms on site and the lawns are well manicured. It was disappointing that the museum only accepts cash as payment. It’s worth your R30, but there’s greater potential here.
Duncan A — Google review

Van Loveren Family Vineyards is a charming estate located in the Robertson Valley, offering a relaxed and family-friendly wine tasting experience. The well-furnished tasting room provides 8 different tasting options, including non-alcoholic choices for families with children. Visitors can also enjoy the lovely deli and shop for various gourmet products. The estate's Christina's Bistro adds value to the experience, while its location near other wine estates makes it convenient for wine enthusiasts.
We are visiting the Breede River Valley in Dec. It's extremely hot here. We made a booking here, though we had visited many times before. This is indeed our favorite wine farm in this area, and we will keep coming back! There are these amazing gardens, beautiful green lawns, a variety of trees. Christina restaurant is on the premises. The wine tasting area was full to the brim, a lekker bunch of patrons, a family offered us a space next to them on the couch. We however did eventually find a shady spot. We did the wine paring this time. You would need the menu to see the variety of options, there is also a kiddies tasting option. Our little yorkie was welcome. The also sell the non alcoholic variety of sparkling which I like to buy for my non drinking friends. It was Sunday and they close at 3pm. The staff although very busy and extremely hot remained engaging and full of smiles. Thank you!

What an amazing experience I’ve had here, after doing a couple of wine tastings around Cape-town ,the wine tasting experience here was really different .It was not just about the wine but knowing the story behind the wines made me feel like I’m part of the family. The whole place is a beautiful story .From the drive going there ,I learnt that all the vines fenced with red flowers belong to the winery ,you get excited on the road before you even reach the winery.

I’m not one to write a negative review, but after being blown away by Nuy Estate yesterday, the lack lustre approach to a wine tasting experience at Van Loveren left more than the taste of tannin in the mouth. Positive: We were 3 attending on a quiet Monday and each opted for a wine/food paring option. The pairings were good, the wines were mostly enjoyable and as not much of a Chardonnay fan I can highly recommend the Christina’s Chardonnay - a pleasant woodie Chardonnay. Now - the negatives: it costs nothing to be nice and make people feel welcome. A very basic greeting was followed by no clear guidelines or suggestions. We knew we wanted to do a food and wine pairing tasting - so after picking a place to sit, we were presented with a menu. No discussion, suggestions or interaction. Shortly after our wine was brought all On one black tray, placed in front of us with no clear indication what we were having till we asked in what order. No information or anything forthcoming. After another 5 minutes our small tray of food pairing arrived - no napkins. No discussion or any interaction again. When we asked for a napkin, we were presented with plastic wrapped “scented dry wipes”. Firstly - sustainability? Secondly - the smell from a scented wipe during wine tasting? Upon paying - nada, nothing until I actually sarcastically said “thank you for asking , our time here was fine”. The sarcasm was lost. P.s. no soap in ladies… This probably would have warranted a three star review, but when on extended travel through SA, and having been so surprised by a lesser known in my experience like Nuy, you’d expect much better and higher standards of customer care from an “old and established” high end “perceived” estate like Van Loveren. I hope this will assist you in inspiring your staff to be brave, free and welcoming in the future - especially during quiet winter months Even “fake enthusiasm” is better than a luke warm breeze.

Viljoensdrift in Robertson is a popular weekend destination offering a delightful experience. Visitors can create their own picnic from the well-stocked deli, purchase wine from the cellar door, and enjoy an hour-long boat trip along the scenic Breede River. It's advisable to book in advance as the afternoon slots tend to fill up quickly. The estate exudes tranquility while also being lively, especially during summer. Wine enthusiasts can indulge in tastings while waiting for their river cruise.
Stopped for lunch. Beautiful place on the river. Enjoyed fish and chips and hamburgers. Best chips we have EVER tasted. We will be back!

So much to do, wine tasting which was very good on the deck under the trees or buy a picnic and lounge on the grass next to the river, or possibly stock up with your favorites and float down the river on the barge. Lovely way to spend a lazy day.

Great wine, lovely atmosphere. Great prices on both the wine tasting and their food. Don't know if it's always like this since we went there shortly after heavy rain- but the river was dirty and didn't smell too pleasant . But the restaurant was amazing with live music.

Springfield Wine Estate What a great dat put for wine tasting. Fantastic little dainty place out in between the vinyards. Plenty greenery and trees with fantastic views as well as the little dam right there. A great scenery for sitting peaceful and relaxing the taste buds with some refreshing wine tasting, a taste bud tantalizing experience. A good variety of wines to tast and select from. Out in the Robertson wine valley. It was also one of the few places open till late on the public holiday. Unfortunately they do not serve food which is the only negative thing we had to say but all in all a very good experience.

Fantastic, relaxed tasting on the dam at Springfield with Santie guiding us expertly through the wines. She really put all of the wines into context, shared the history and the story...we met the estate dogs and carted off a few boxes of their most delicious wines. Highly recommended 👌

I have been for a wine tasting previously and it was amazing. This is my most favourite wine in the World ❤️❤️❤️. I have recently joined their Members Club and what an incredible surprise. In addition to 6 bottles of wine, I received their Olive Oil ( in a wine bottle ❤️) with Olives and Peach Atcha sauce. I can’t wait for the next surprise box 😉👏🏼 Thank you Jenna and the Springfield Team. 💯

Scenic views and incredible wines paired with complementary olives. The wine presentation was spectacular. Thank you for a wonderful experience! Don't leave the Estate without purchasing a bottle of Thunderchild, 100% of the grapes for this blend are grown on the orphanage’s grounds and 100% of the profit is donated to the children. A compelling initiative.

The estate accommodated us for a wine cellar tour, and it was the best part of the whole day. They have wonderful wine and we bought a few bottles to take home. Wine tasting can be enjoyed on the grass with deck chairs. Tastings are generous. Their Life from stone is the most famous wine. The same family run the estate for generations.

Not to long ago, wine tasting in this valley was free. It changed and I understand this. I have been to Springfield several times in the past and I have never been disappointed. I will always recommend them as a great option. Until today. I state again, I don’t mind paying for a wine tasting but today: the wines were served, glasses plonked before us. Not a single word about the wine was said, no introduction to the farm or anything! After we have tasted the 5 wines and were almost leaving, a lady doing the tastings come to our table and asked how far we were with our tasting. Since we were done, she did not say anything . No apology for not showing up, she did not even try to make up by telling us about the farm… no effort. Although I have been there before, for 4 of our party, it were their first time visit and they will surely not bring their friends here. On a Saturday in summer, surely you need more than one person to do the tastings ? It’s a pity. Such a beautiful place and great wines. But I doubt that I will be back for a visit. Rather order online and visit some of the other farms where we had lovely tastings, like Rietvallei and Zandvliet
Marlena T — Google review
Interestingly they not part of platters, but theres wines do not disappoint! The whites are notoriously special. I would also check out their reds. The thunder rock wine is also special as they allocate proceeds to the children’s home. PS: Complimentary 🫒 olives are amazing!

Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary, located outside Stanford in the Overberg region, is a popular tourist attraction that has seen nearly 20,000 visitors. The sanctuary is known for its educational work and the well-being of its big cats. Visitors are guided through the area by knowledgeable volunteers who provide information about the sanctuary and its residents. The big cats have spacious enclosures and appear to be comfortable and well-cared for.
Visited Panthera Africa this morning with my teenage daughter and we were both blown away by this truly ethical sanctuary. Coming from experiences with wildlife facilities in Thailand where animals seemed drugged and listless, this was a complete revelation. This is what a real sanctuary looks like - no breeding, no trading, no tourist interactions with the animals. Every decision here is made with the cats' welfare as the priority. You can see and feel the difference immediately. Our guide was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, sharing detailed information about each species and the heartbreaking but hopeful rescue stories of individual animals. The staff clearly genuinely care about these cats and it shows in everything they do. The difference in the animals was striking - these big cats were alert, active, and displaying natural behaviors. No signs of the sedation or stress we've unfortunately seen elsewhere. They live in spacious, natural enclosures where they can be themselves. My daughter learned so much about the real issues in captive big cat breeding and the importance of ethical sanctuaries. This visit opened our eyes to conservation in a meaningful way. Panthera Africa is doing vital work and deserves all the support they can get. This is how wildlife conservation should be done. If you're in the Western Cape, make the drive to Stanford - it's absolutely worth it to support an organization that truly puts the animals fiirst.

Visiting Panthera Big Cat Sanctuary in Stanford was both heartbreaking and inspiring. Hearing the stories of lions, tigers, and leopards rescued from the lion bone trade, tiger bone medicine trade, and other cruelty brought the reality of these issues to life in a way I’ll never forget. What makes Panthera exceptional is their 100% ethical approach. The animals live in spacious, natural habitats tailored to their needs, with an enrichment enclosure to keep them stimulated — no petting, no exploitation, just genuine care. Our guide, Kate, was outstanding — knowledgeable, passionate, and happy to answer every question. The visit was educational, emotional, and truly impressive to see how the sanctuary is determined to respect the animals and give them the dignity they deserve. I highly recommend this to all ages. If you can, please visit, donate, and help them continue their incredible work.
Bianca W — Google review
What an awesome experience!! Did one of their tours a few days ago and really enjoyed it. I was a bit sceptical about the ethical aspects but it seems like a honest sanctuary and I couldn’t find any negative things about it. They’re acting in the best interest of the animals. If the animals don’t want to be seen you won’t see them. Personally I rather not see them but know that they are comfortable instead of them being in a small cage just for the sake of humans entertainment! They inform you about all the animals and their history which also helps you to understand the animal rights in (south) Africa more. So all in all a pleasant experience and a good sanctuary to support.
Everrr H — Google review
I absolutely loved this experience: it was very educational, it raised our awareness of what is actually happening out there with wild cats. I love what they stand for, they ethics and love and care for animals. Claire handled our group so well despite of so many small kids. I know I will visit again because we all thoroughly enjoyed it!
Lucie N — Google review
Panthera Big Cat Sanctuary is an absolute gem and one of the very few true ethical sanctuaries in South Africa. Their passion and dedication to the welfare of the big cats is evident in every detail. This isn’t about petting or playing with the animals and that’s exactly how it should be. Unlike many other big cat parks, Panthera is all about respecting the animals, giving them the space, care, and dignity they deserve. We had Kate as our guide, and she was fantastic her knowledge, engaging storytelling, and willingness to answer every question made the experience truly memorable. Thank you for such an incredible time, Kate. Hearing the cats’ stories and learning about the work being done here left me inspired to support their cause. For anyone visiting or travelling near the Hermanus area, this is an absolute must-visit. You’re not just enjoying a unique experience you’re contributing to an incredible mission. Please consider visiting and donating to help them continue this vital work.
Weabo B — Google review
Excellent sanctuary. Definitely worth a visit. Our guide Kate gave us extensive knowledge about the breeding trade as well as the bone trade in South Africa. She also gave us the back stories of the saved animals in the sanctuary which gave them character. Instead of just a tiger/lion etc they had names and a survival story. Definitely recommending for friends and family.
Olivia N — Google review
Absolutely amazing tour, very knowledgeable staff and insightful tour that managed to get very close to the cats.
Mark R — Google review
You need to book a tour in advance, as individual visits aren’t allowed — rightly so, in the interest of the animals’ well-being. Our guide Kate was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of information, which is exactly what you’d hope for from an educational visit. We were able to see all the resident felines and learned in depth about the wildcats, the sanctuary’s background and, on the contrary, the broader industry that exploits big cats. It was clear that everything here is truly done with the animals’ welfare in mind. A must for anyone who wants to understand the realities behind South Africa’s wildlife industry.

With convenient parking and access pathways, it's a popular choice for both locals and visitors seeking a stress-free day by the sea.
Beautiful white sandy beach, the place to be for sunsets. Clean ablutions.

I have visited this beach in winter and with it not many people were around. Very suprised at the cleaniness of all the facilities. Keep it up💯👍 Here you can braai or just sit and enjoy the splendours of nature. At this point the lagoon is flowing into the ocean. Ample of parking available but in school holidays this scenario will and can change. Ablution facilities are in a very good condition.🌟😁

Grotto beach is a great place to relax and soak up the sun. During the peak season in summer it can get quite busy, but there is more than enough space so it doesn't get overly crowded. I am not sure if there is always a Life Guard on duty, but when we visited there was. There were also other activities for the kids such as a rock climbing wall, and with a couple of restaurants close by you can easily spend the entire day there. Although we only went for a walk along the beach, I have previously swum there and the water was cool but bearable. Grotto Beach is recognized as a Blue Flag beach.
Dewald R — Google review
A Lovely long flat stretch of beach. The sunsets are beautiful there. There are ablutions, a coffee van, ice cream and kiosks. Small play area for the kids. Life guards are on duty in season. There is plenty of parking BUT during the summer holidays it can be difficult to find parking and you might have to walk a long distance to where the swimming beach area is.

Definitely a blue flag beach. Ample parking, large beach area, 2 restaurants and snack venues, public toilets and a braai / picnic area. Not to mention caves and a trail you can walk. There is plenty of parking, but it can be difficult during summer and holidays.

A must see reserve in Hermanus. The staff members in the visitor’s centre were very kind and knowledgeable. The reserve is kept spotless and none of the trails, including the remote ones, were overgrown. There is a large variety of flowers, especially ericas. Some of the many native trees in the valley are labelled which is a nice touch. Furthermore, there are multiple benches all over for one to rest and admire the view and all the dangerous parts have a railing or support of some sort.

What a wonderful little trail .free to enter. We attempted the 3 Damme trail on a cool Sunday morning the rangers at the start were very helpful in pointing us in the right direction and the signage is also very clear as to where to go . The path to the 1st dam was well marked and took 30 minutes to reach at a leisurely pace , stopping a lot to take photos of the gorgeous views . We only did the 1st dam and headed back and encountered some baboons on our return but then just went in another direction when they saw us and all was well. Overall loved the location.

Fernkloof is a truly stunning nature reserve with a variety of hiking trails for all levels. We chose the Red Trail to the waterfall, which we completed in about 90 minutes. The route was not only enjoyable but rewarded us with absolutely beautiful views of the mountains and surrounding landscape. A special thank you goes to the Visitor Centre staff and the ranger on duty: their warm welcome, guidance on the routes, and presence to ensure safety made the experience even better. If you’re in Hermanus, this is an absolute must-visit for nature lovers.

Hiked up the beautiful Fernkloof Nature Reserve to the waterfall and met Mr Tortoise at the start. Then the bench of "quiet contemplation". Lots of steps. Saw a beautiful U-shaped rock formation and we saw some beautiful flowers. Climbed up to the waterfall, stunningly beautiful. Worth the climb. Saw a beautiful gem of a fern. Stunning walk back. We met a Bearded Dragon I think, I named him Steven Tyler. Beautiful walk to sooth the Soul. Highly recommend this.

Located at the end of Franschhoek's Main Street with a stunning mountainous backdrop, the Huguenot Memorial Museum tells the captivating story of the French Huguenots who settled in the area in the mid-1800s. The museum offers an intriguing look into how this community influenced the cultural, natural, gastronomic, and viticultural attractions of Franschhoek.
Absolutely brilliant chronological order layout of the history. The 3 museums are inviting and informative, and the exhibitions are excellently presented. It is one of the best museums in South Africa. The monument itself it well maintained, and the gardens are kept to perfection.

A wonderful experience as it was the first time that I have visited the museums as well. They are well maintained and are very neat. It is a pity that the fountain in front of the memorial did not have water and the lawn was in a poor state. Visitors should also look out for electric cables on the ground. Will encourage people to visit this site.

The Huguenot Museum is a beautiful and well-maintained site with lovely gardens and clean, welcoming spaces. The exhibits are fascinating, and I really appreciated the modern touch of wall prints with easy-to-read information. One of the highlights was discovering the list of surnames from the original ships—such a special experience to see if your own name is included. The adjoining perfume museum is also a delightful bonus. A thoughtful and enriching visit all around!

Museum was in very good condition and there is an option to walk outside and see other monuments nearby included in the ticket price.

You will find the Huguenot Memorial Museum at the edge of town, on a beautiful tract of land, in an elegant, classically styled white building. Given the fact that so much of the history of Franschhoek is tied to the settlement of the Huguenots in the region, this is a must-see to those interested of finding out more about the creation and development of the town. Go in the afternoon, but arrive before 4:15 to be able to buy a ticket.

It was extremely interesting, especially for me as a history teacher. I learnt so much more, and it obviously filled gaps, I found out more than what the textbook taught me. Franschhoek carries much of our history and the fact that it is so good at preserving it for the future, what interests me more.

The estate offers lavish suites and villas with contemporary charm and elegant furnishings. Nestled in the Franschhoek valley, Grande Provence provides an exclusive experience amidst its renowned vineyards.
We originally booked a picnic (which came highly recommended by a lot of locals). However when we arrived the basket was not ready and we were informed that its preparation would take some time. That is when all of the staff we interacted with started outdoing themselves. We got to pick our own lunch spot and to our surprise not only blankets and beanbags were carried over but also a table and chairs. After many apologies and different options to choose from, the chef prepared us a vegetarian tapas selection. The portions were more than generous and everything was absolutely delicious. The meal was topped off with heavenly desserts. On top of that the staff was super friendly and extremely warm. We enjoyed ever second on this beautiful estate. And by the time we had to leave we had even forgotten, that our initial plan had fallen through. We will definitely be back! Thank you so much for this amazing experience.

Service is abysmal. We waited around 25 minutes to be served and then we were rudely addressed. For the price you pay for the tram to be able to visit the wine form I would’ve expected much better service. The location is beautiful though, and the gallery is nice to look at.

Lizzie was lovely even though she was still learning. Good luck to her! Unfortunately we agreed that the general process was too rushed. We’ve been to many wine tasting experiences and it was just not a relaxing experience where you could take time and savour it. The cheese platter was also pretty sub par for a renowned establishment. Not an even ratio of cheese to breads and not much cheese variety. Sort the above out and could definitely improve a star or 2. These should be simple fixes. A beautiful place nonetheless.

The wines we tasted were average in quality for the price we paid. We had the Angel tears tasting and Premium tasting and not a single wine from the tasting stood out for me. The service was also poor. We were served wine as if we came there to chug it instead of enjoying the experience and the quality of wine. I wasn’t even finished with my white wine tasting when the red’s were served. I felt rushed and did not enjoy this experience. NOT WORTH THE MONEY SPENT. I wish I could have asked for my money back. My R350 spent was not wort it. Absolutely nothing good to say here!!!!!

A truly beautiful place, but unfortunately, the service leaves much to be desired! We booked a wine tasting at 12:30 pm, arrived at the location, and found ourselves lost on the property, trying to figure out how things worked. We tried speaking with someone to get directions, and two attendants simply turned their backs on us. When we finally found the wine tasting area, the waiter said we could find a table to sit at despite having booked in advance. The only table available, since all others were reserved for tour groups, was on uneven ground, making the chair crooked and uncomfortable. The wines were explained in a rush, and when we tried to ask the store employee about policies for bringing wine on the plane, he just ignored us and said, “I don’t know.” Service at the bistro was just as bad. Extremely disappointed to have chosen this winery for the only day I had available for this experience!

This was our worst experience on our Wine-tasting adventure. The food was overpriced and definitely not value for money. Compared to the other Wine estates we visited, this one fell horribly short. The venue is beautiful though and the Art pieces exquisite . If they can get the food and pricing right this could become a winner.

Picnic was disappointing - plenty of food (which was delicious), but expensive considering no wine included. Also you’re directed to sit in the small garden next to the children’s play area. Not terribly relaxing, and the whole place felt quite touristy. Food was individually shrink wrapped, so presentation doesn’t feel very luxurious. Chenin blanc is delicious, but all in all the experience left something to be desired.

Review for the Bistro: We were at the GrandProvonceWines winery at lunchtime as part of a visit to Franschhoek. The idea was to enjoy a wine and oyster tasting first and then have something to eat afterwards. Unfortunately, we didn't get to do the latter as the tasting had spoiled our appetite for lunch. The oyster bubbly paring was good so far, although the oysters were drowned in marinade. So we couldn't say anything directly about the quality of the oysters. The menu also said that there were three sparkling wines to accompany the oysters. However, this meant one full and one half-full glass - the first should then count for 2. The flagship wine tasting consisted of two white wines and one red wine. It is particularly worth mentioning here that the first white wine "Amphora" is a "Natural Wine". The information would have been helpful in advance. The service was curt and sometimes inattentive and slow. It was clear to see that the business is geared towards day tourists, who are "carted" to the estate on a small train. In general, I would say that the Estate has probably seen its best days. Here, (overpriced) mass prevails over class. In my opinion, there is no reason to leave your hard-earned money in a country like South Africa, which is overflowing with great food and drink.

Nestled in the scenic Franschhoek Valley, La Motte Wine Farm is a prestigious estate offering a delightful experience for visitors. The farm features a charming setting under oak trees and an onsite art museum. Guests can indulge in tasting sessions of their internationally acclaimed wines and savor traditional cuisine at the gourmet restaurant. Additionally, the farm shop offers artisanal breads, cakes, fresh produce, flowers, gifts, and spice blends from the farm kitchen.
Every visit to La Motte feels as magical as the first! The lush outdoor spaces, stunning art gallery, and charming shops create a perfect atmosphere. The staff are lovely, the wine tasting is delightful, and the bakery pastries are a must-try, however the restaurant is best for bigger meals. A wonderful destination that always impresses! ❤️

The refurbishment was worth waiting for. Beautiful set up and great service. MCC was some of the best sparkling wine I had on my trip. Had a lovely walk on the hiking trail too.

The winery is set in a stunning area of Franschoek, with plenty of parking available. The beautiful architecture of the farm welcomes you, and the friendly and delightful staff make you feel right at home. We took a chance and went to the restaurant without a booking. Although the restaurant was fully booked, the team went above and beyond to accommodate us. We are so grateful for the staff's efforts to make our visit memorable. The menu is simple yet carefully selected, and the food was absolutely sensational, with big portions beautifully presented and accompanied by a wide range of local wine from the farm. The friendly and well-trained staff made the experience one to last. I highly recommend this winery. Booking is essential for the restaurant and wine tasting.

Stunning location and attention to details. Loved the shop with gorgeous bits and pieces for the house. Lunch at the restaurant was simple but delicious. Had the quinoa with broccoli, cheese and green beans. Delicious!!! The wines were average. We did the Reserve Tasting for R160 and the Flagship (Haneli R) for R80. We enjoyed the Syrah from the Reserve Tasting but didn’t enjoy the others as much.

Beautiful. Serene. Inspiring. Stunning scenery/views. Exquisite gardens and lawns. Lovely walkways thru trees and shrubbery. Gorgeous roses and flower gardens. Agapanthus just starting to bloom. Unique play grounds. Plenty of shade. Friendly staff. Variety of venues, however we only popped in just before closing time so we didn't get to experience any of them. But it all looks very inviting. Definitely on the bucket list for another day. Hopefully soon.

Awesome setting, great food. Had the most amazing breakfast bun ever. Toasted bun with bacon, egg, sausage, a patoto rosti with melted cheese and barbecue sauce, including fries and salad in the side. Absolute value for money!

The main stop when going on roadtrip. There is always something new worth trying. Brought this Paul’s ice-cream (birthday cake) and it was delicious. It was R60 but I want another one now. You definitely can’t drive past it. Love how spacious the place is and though it was closing time, the staff were still very friendly and helpful. Super excited for the next roadtrip that passes this place

We stopped at Peregrine Farm Stall on our way from Cape Town to Hermanus for whale watching, and it was the perfect spot! The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and everything felt so fresh and wholesome. The farm itself is full of wonderful produce, and we couldn’t resist grabbing some smoothies too - they were fantastic. Definitely worth a stop!

We had lunch at Peregrine which was good, but my wife also bought Hertzoggies in the shop because I am very fond of these. They were awful and the worst Hertzoggies I have ever tasted. Very little jam with too much coconut. Avoid!

Hi. It's such a fabulous place. The food we had was super good. Coffee so so good. There pies or even the frozen pies the best I have had. Also there breads, good. Well worth the price. I would love to go back there and try some other food they offer.

Bought some delicious bread and used their clean bathroom (and a quick play on the playground) before hitting the road again. Would definitely return!

If you selling a sandwich in a fridge, I just wanted it toasted to warm it, was told no we don't do that you must order a toasted sandwich, it's at the same shop. For the price charged you'd think you'd get a proper paper cup this is the second one after first started leaking at the bottom. Don't ask for anything other than what is provided.

Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens, also known as little Kirstenbosch, is a popular destination for hiking and wildlife viewing. The gardens showcase a diverse range of flora and cultivated ecosystems, including local fynbos with proteas, restios, and over 50 ericas. Additionally, visitors can explore Stony Point to see the remains of a whaling station and observe land-based whale watching opportunities.
A wonderful experience! The selfish me wants to keep quiet about this gem, but how can you keep such an experience from others?! The gardens are very well kept, the signs so informative and the scenery breathtaking. The short trails are user friendly and there are enough benches along the way to take a break and enjoy the environment. Bird live is abundant and binoculars are recommended.

This was truly an amazing time being surrounded with such beautiful greenery, landscapes and layouts. This garden offers a variety of picnic spots, informative historical information with a few hiking trails that leads to different mountain waterfalls. Would definitely visit this garden again with family and friends.

An hour trails through untouched nature leading to gentle waterfalls. No photo can truly show the depth of nature here. Birdsong in the canopy and the distant bark of baboons, calming the soul. Pure nature, pure soul medicine.

Absolutely stunning!! Immaculate gardens, beautiful walkways. Lovely walk to the Disa waterfall and a path that is wheelchair and pram friendly. Easy walk. Lovely hike to Leopard's waterfall, not too strenuous, amazing views!

Beautiful botanical gardens that packs a lot into a relatively small space. The signage to the disas was a bit of a let down but it took us to the most beautiful waterfall. Really worthwhile to visit if you’re in the area and it’s not expensive.

It was absolutely breathtaking. The Leopard Trail is such a beautiful trail, not for beginners though but truly gorgeous.

Harold Porter Botanical Garden is a treasure. The entrance fee is worth every cent with fabulous walking trails, and interesting botanical information boards in the well-kept gardens. We ate a light meal at the restaurant after working up an appetite on the waterfall walk, and bought some fynbos teas at the gift shop.

Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens is one of the most well-maintained gardens you will see in the Western Cape. It's so easy to navigate and the paths are designed to be wheelchair friendly. Not only can you relax at linger in the gardens, there's an effort to educated with various environments created and the longer you stay, the more you will learn. The indigenous knowledge section stood out for us as the most educational, but all the areas are well-presented. There are benches to relax whether you prefer sun or shade. And then you excellent staff: Etienne was particularly helpful to obvious tourists by giving great advice on where to go and what to see in the garden. It costs R60 (about $3) per person to visit. The bathrooms are all clean, neat and safe.

Stony Point Nature Reserve is a hidden gem located in the charming coastal town of Bettys Bay, about 90 kilometers from Cape Town. This protected area boasts one of the largest breeding colonies of African Penguins globally, offering visitors an incredible chance to observe these delightful birds in their natural habitat. The reserve features elevated boardwalks that meander through stunning landscapes dotted with boulders and coastal views, making it easy to get up close to the penguins without disturbing them.
great place 😍 entrance costs 40 rand. there are a lot of penguins here, just hundreds. we were on sunday, it was warm and despite this there were not many tourists. penguins at every step. lots of baby penguins. also several penguins built a house for themselves right next to the parking lot, there were mothers and their two penguins. mostly penguins are lazy and just lie around. amazing emotions. There is a parking lot, toilets and a cafe.

Affordable , and just fun with the family. We have visited a few times already, some times you see more penguins than other times, one thing is the view stas beautiful. A must visit.

I recently visited Stony Point Nature Reserve, and honestly, I found the place a bit boring. At the end of the road leading to the reserve, there's a barrier where you have to pay an entrance fee of 40 Rand to get in. I went ahead and paid the fee, hoping for something interesting inside. However, once inside, the experience didn't really meet my expectations. There wasn't much to see or do, and overall, the place felt quite dull. I wouldn’t personally recommend it unless you’re really interested in penguins or have extra time to spare.

Stony point nature reserve was great 👍 I would highly recommend to anyone any age. Family friendly and it's absolutely free. The best part is there is penguins 🐧!!! Please be mindful of the penguins when visiting And check under the car before leaving

Tooooooooo much penguins it’s a city of penguins. Not even a city, a country. There are probably a 100 of these minions. Idk why I made name for some of them. The one who was walking by the boardwalk is Timmy. The one who looks like they are is screaming is Timmy’s brother or sister is jimmy. The dassie is wombat. That is ones I remember.

It was a beautiful spot with penguins and lots of dassies. Entrance fee is 40r pp. It was quite and peaceful.

An amazing place to see a large congregation of African penguins and other marine animals at close up!

Oh my goodness, what a lovely place to visit. With wheelchair access, making this spectacular place accessible to everyone. The penguins and cormorants are a special treat to see being so relaxed in their natural habitat. Even spotted some Oyster catchers. Waterdikkop and Egyptian geese. The boardwalk is an easy relaxing walk for everybody to enjoy with some seating areas available as you walk along. Take your time to enjoy the breathtaking views. I would suggest a beanie and warm jacket just in case.
