I love the Bistro. It has excellent food and a good place to stop and to stretch legs. And Rooiberg wine is fantastic.

Rooiberg Winery is known for its big red chair that stands out as you approach on the R60 road between Robertson and Worcester. In summer, you'll want to stop here because there's great air conditioning if nothing else. But you'll be treated to a welcoming environment inside. Unusually for a wine farm, there food is well-made and of decent portions and the service was sharp. Elna delivered friendly and competent service and impressed us with her good natured attitude. There is outside seating and a play area for kids but they've ensured that there is plenty of shade so you don't burn in the sun. It's one of the few farms open when others are closed.
Duncan A — Google review
Only stopped for a shirt while for a very light lunch. Staff very helpful and friendly. Climb into the big red chair for a bit of fun.
Graham K — Google review
A lovely place to stop for lunch and / or wine tasting. The options on the menu were delicious especially the chicken livers. There is a big play area outside for the children to stretch their legs. On colder days, the inside is cozy and warm.
Joshua L — Google review
I dont give 5 stars without careful consideration however well deserved Rooiberg Winery!! Beautiful spotless restaurant, a delicious menu with the food being on point. Outdoor or indoor seating and our small breed dog was welcome (on a lead). There are some delicious baked goods to buy and take home. The toilets are spotless. The wine shop is definitely worth a visit. I shall be back for a 3rd visit soon.
Cherie M — Google review
Very nice stop on the way home. Amazing deli and coffee shop and a very friendly barrister. Massive chair to climb up and enjoy your food/drink and see the views.
Malcolm W — Google review
Friendly staff and very welcoming with lots on offer if you hungry or just feeling for something sweet. Nice kids playground, keeps them entertained. The BIG red chair also offers a great view of the area.
Krishna G — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyed our short experience here. Upmarket establishment, decor is great and modern, service very good and excellent cappuccinos. The winery is definitely well-worth a stop with superb wines. Oh, and the gin bar.....🤪 Highly recommended!

Graham Beck Estate

Food & Drink
Graham Beck Estate is a must-visit for wine enthusiasts, offering a delightful bubbly and olive oil tasting experience at the Cellar Door. For those unsure about olive oil, there's a unique popcorn and bubbly pairing to enjoy. The estate's picturesque setting and accommodating staff make it perfect for gatherings, with options like cheese platters that pair well with their MCC wines. Visitors can also expect an informative journey through the estate's history during wine tastings, creating unforgettable memories.
If you are a fan of sparkling wine, then this place is the paradise of Cape Classique Sparkling Wines and a must visit. The staff are friendly and have a great sense of hospitality, which makes the wine tasting even more enjoyable! On top of that I would highly recommend staying over in the Grace Manor House, which is a beautiful modern cottage found within the estate and that can host up to 12 persons!
Krisnen M — Google review
Incredible wines and delicious cheese and meat platter. Had a lovely time here. The 2 ladies who helped us were also amazing and we really enjoyed talking with them. A definite must stop when you drive past. Thanks for a great tasting
Miroda O — Google review
Had a last minute idea to visit before our departure. They were fully booked but squeezed us in, very accommodating! Amazing bubbly!! Venue is not necessarily great for pets as it’s inside, but the doggos were happy and staff/guests enjoyed their presence.
Wilma M — Google review
What a beautiful place. The Cap Classique tasting was delicious and paired with a smoked salmon platter it was the breakfast of kings. The Estate is definitely worth a visit.
Debbie V — Google review
Beautiful wine estate and a fantastic tasting experience. We live in Europe and try to make the effort to come once a year because of the great setting and of course the delicious bubbles.
C B — Google review
I mean who can say no to sparkling wine… Tastes amazing and Ofcourse one has to be buzzing after the tasting to know that it was worth it… it’s just an 1 hour and 45 mins drive from capetown but it is worth it. Staff is amazing and friendly. Surely enjoyed my wine tasting. Will surely come back
Nyasha W — Google review
Yoh. Just skip this one. Dreary aesthetic, Woolies charcuterie, lax service... Then you order the 'Deluxe' tasting option & 2 of the wines you get to taste are the same 2 you've bought dozens of times at Checkers (Brut & Brut Rosé). Drive past, you're in wine country anyway.
Tshepo — Google review
Fantastic MCC in a great setting. Professional service. Lovely experience. Right net to the R62, so worth the stop. Nice memorabilia in the shoo

Neat garden, well maintained. Nice 360 degree view of montagu and surrounds if you do the short hike up the hill
Iftekhar A — Google review
Beautiful. A must do when you visit Montagu. Breathtaking views if you walk high enough. I did the short walk about 2km
Etta R — Google review
It's a wonderful place to take a walk or relax in a natural environment. The garden is delightful and there are a wide variety of local plants on show in a peaceful space. Not crowded at all, and it's easy to navigate the well-marked paths. Wheelchair users might have some difficulty but could get around with assistance. There is also a museum on site bt check whether it's open before you go.
Duncan A — Google review
We were advised by the tourist info desk to go at 10 so that we could also have the tea and cake served. Best R35 I have ever spent. Then we took a relaxed walk up to Bessieskop. The colorful flowers was beautiful to see. The walk was not difficult.
Carla R — Google review
We planted a tree in remembrance of my wife, Sandy, late brother. Hugo, the curator of the nature garden took us around and showed us the tree. Looks absolutely fantastic and growing beautifully. Hugo is so passionate about these Gardens and Montagu as well. He is an absolute inspiration to the local area. Always makes you feel so welcome. Highly recommend a visit.

Rugged 1.7km hike to viewpoint in Bessiekop which is beautiful. Beautiful flora mainly cacti. In summer take water, hat and sunscreen there is no shade at all on the hike so go early morning whilst it is cooler. Beautiful lily pond in the garden.
Enid S — Google review
Beautiful nature space to come relax a while or take a stroll through. Lots of birds to see and in spring time the flowers are in full bloom. R5 entry on an honour system when the gates are not manned. Could do with better maps or marking of the paths to guide you through the space.
Heather W — Google review
Very dry and was not very welcoming. No path directions on entrance, had to figure out how to get to the offices (that was closed). No body at the entrance to welcome and explain where to go. The view is amazing, so beautiful. Need to go back to go do a proper hike.

Visitors have praised the exceptional wine tasting experience with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The venue provides stunning views of the vineyards and a pleasant atmosphere for relaxation. Guests have appreciated the variety of wines available for tasting and have recommended purchasing their wines.
Springfield Wine Estate What a great dat put for wine tasting. Fantastic little dainty place out in between the vinyards. Plenty greenery and trees with fantastic views as well as the little dam right there. A great scenery for sitting peaceful and relaxing the taste buds with some refreshing wine tasting, a taste bud tantalizing experience. A good variety of wines to tast and select from. Out in the Robertson wine valley. It was also one of the few places open till late on the public holiday. Unfortunately they do not serve food which is the only negative thing we had to say but all in all a very good experience.
Tim C — Google review
Fantastic, relaxed tasting on the dam at Springfield with Santie guiding us expertly through the wines. She really put all of the wines into context, shared the history and the story...we met the estate dogs and carted off a few boxes of their most delicious wines. Highly recommended 👌
Grant W — Google review
Absolutely beautiful setting Fantastic selection of wines Super helpful staff Most definitely recommend Springfield Wine Estate - What a gem
Allegra W — Google review
I have been for a wine tasting previously and it was amazing. This is my most favourite wine in the World ❤️❤️❤️. I have recently joined their Members Club and what an incredible surprise. In addition to 6 bottles of wine, I received their Olive Oil ( in a wine bottle ❤️) with Olives and Peach Atcha sauce. I can’t wait for the next surprise box 😉👏🏼 Thank you Jenna and the Springfield Team. 💯
Tracy P — Google review
Scenic views and incredible wines paired with complementary olives. The wine presentation was spectacular. Thank you for a wonderful experience! Don't leave the Estate without purchasing a bottle of Thunderchild, 100% of the grapes for this blend are grown on the orphanage’s grounds and 100% of the profit is donated to the children. A compelling initiative.
Zea R — Google review
The estate accommodated us for a wine cellar tour, and it was the best part of the whole day. They have wonderful wine and we bought a few bottles to take home. Wine tasting can be enjoyed on the grass with deck chairs. Tastings are generous. Their Life from stone is the most famous wine. The same family run the estate for generations.
Roxy N — Google review
Not to long ago, wine tasting in this valley was free. It changed and I understand this. I have been to Springfield several times in the past and I have never been disappointed. I will always recommend them as a great option. Until today. I state again, I don’t mind paying for a wine tasting but today: the wines were served, glasses plonked before us. Not a single word about the wine was said, no introduction to the farm or anything! After we have tasted the 5 wines and were almost leaving, a lady doing the tastings come to our table and asked how far we were with our tasting. Since we were done, she did not say anything . No apology for not showing up, she did not even try to make up by telling us about the farm… no effort. Although I have been there before, for 4 of our party, it were their first time visit and they will surely not bring their friends here. On a Saturday in summer, surely you need more than one person to do the tastings ? It’s a pity. Such a beautiful place and great wines. But I doubt that I will be back for a visit. Rather order online and visit some of the other farms where we had lovely tastings, like Rietvallei and Zandvliet
Marlena T — Google review
Interestingly they not part of platters, but theres wines do not disappoint! The whites are notoriously special. I would also check out their reds. The thunder rock wine is also special as they allocate proceeds to the children’s home. PS: Complimentary 🫒 olives are amazing!

Viljoensdrift in Robertson is a popular weekend destination offering a delightful experience. Visitors can create their own picnic from the well-stocked deli, purchase wine from the cellar door, and enjoy an hour-long boat trip along the scenic Breede River. It's advisable to book in advance as the afternoon slots tend to fill up quickly. The estate exudes tranquility while also being lively, especially during summer. Wine enthusiasts can indulge in tastings while waiting for their river cruise.
Stopped for lunch. Beautiful place on the river. Enjoyed fish and chips and hamburgers. Best chips we have EVER tasted. We will be back!

So much to do, wine tasting which was very good on the deck under the trees or buy a picnic and lounge on the grass next to the river, or possibly stock up with your favorites and float down the river on the barge. Lovely way to spend a lazy day.

Sip and Savour festival at Viljoensdrift was very well-organized - from shuttle to entry to the food and wine tasting! Enjoyed a lovely river cruise. Thoroughly enjoyed our day!!

Great wine, lovely atmosphere. Great prices on both the wine tasting and their food. Don't know if it's always like this since we went there shortly after heavy rain- but the river was dirty and didn't smell too pleasant . But the restaurant was amazing with live music.

Van Loveren Family Vineyards is a charming estate located in the Robertson Valley, offering a relaxed and family-friendly wine tasting experience. The well-furnished tasting room provides 8 different tasting options, including non-alcoholic choices for families with children. Visitors can also enjoy the lovely deli and shop for various gourmet products. The estate's Christina's Bistro adds value to the experience, while its location near other wine estates makes it convenient for wine enthusiasts.
We are visiting the Breede River Valley in Dec. It's extremely hot here. We made a booking here, though we had visited many times before. This is indeed our favorite wine farm in this area, and we will keep coming back! There are these amazing gardens, beautiful green lawns, a variety of trees. Christina restaurant is on the premises. The wine tasting area was full to the brim, a lekker bunch of patrons, a family offered us a space next to them on the couch. We however did eventually find a shady spot. We did the wine paring this time. You would need the menu to see the variety of options, there is also a kiddies tasting option. Our little yorkie was welcome. The also sell the non alcoholic variety of sparkling which I like to buy for my non drinking friends. It was Sunday and they close at 3pm. The staff although very busy and extremely hot remained engaging and full of smiles. Thank you!

Beautiful place. Just had a quick stop and walk about so I can't comment on the food or wine but definitely a lovely atmosphere. Will stop there again, this time spend a little longer and experience more
Kay A — Google review
What an amazing experience I’ve had here, after doing a couple of wine tastings around Cape-town ,the wine tasting experience here was really different .It was not just about the wine but knowing the story behind the wines made me feel like I’m part of the family. The whole place is a beautiful story .From the drive going there ,I learnt that all the vines fenced with red flowers belong to the winery ,you get excited on the road before you even reach the winery.
BUNNY S — Google review
This is great for families. Great setting with lush greenery and proud family heritage used in the tasting room and restaurant. Fantastic wine selection. A must visit.
Hilda S — Google review
I’m not one to write a negative review, but after being blown away by Nuy Estate yesterday, the lack lustre approach to a wine tasting experience at Van Loveren left more than the taste of tannin in the mouth. Positive: We were 3 attending on a quiet Monday and each opted for a wine/food paring option. The pairings were good, the wines were mostly enjoyable and as not much of a Chardonnay fan I can highly recommend the Christina’s Chardonnay - a pleasant woodie Chardonnay. Now - the negatives: it costs nothing to be nice and make people feel welcome. A very basic greeting was followed by no clear guidelines or suggestions. We knew we wanted to do a food and wine pairing tasting - so after picking a place to sit, we were presented with a menu. No discussion, suggestions or interaction. Shortly after our wine was brought all On one black tray, placed in front of us with no clear indication what we were having till we asked in what order. No information or anything forthcoming. After another 5 minutes our small tray of food pairing arrived - no napkins. No discussion or any interaction again. When we asked for a napkin, we were presented with plastic wrapped “scented dry wipes”. Firstly - sustainability? Secondly - the smell from a scented wipe during wine tasting? Upon paying - nada, nothing until I actually sarcastically said “thank you for asking , our time here was fine”. The sarcasm was lost. P.s. no soap in ladies… This probably would have warranted a three star review, but when on extended travel through SA, and having been so surprised by a lesser known in my experience like Nuy, you’d expect much better and higher standards of customer care from an “old and established” high end “perceived” estate like Van Loveren. I hope this will assist you in inspiring your staff to be brave, free and welcoming in the future - especially during quiet winter months Even “fake enthusiasm” is better than a luke warm breeze.

Nestled along the scenic Langverwagten Road to McGregor, Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary is a delightful haven for donkeys and visitors alike. This tranquil sanctuary boasts spacious, well-kept enclosures where these gentle creatures thrive under the care of passionate staff dedicated to their welfare. As you explore, you'll encounter adorable ducklings at the pond and can browse through an inviting bookstore filled with intriguing titles, including Afrikaans poetry.
The milkshake was amazingly thick and delicious. Would definitely recommend. Visiting the donkeys was fun as well, very glad that they were rescued. Please visit their website and do a virtual adoption of a donkey, it goes for a very good cause.

What a beautiful sanctuary, and so peaceful! Would definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area! They have a very quaint small cafe you can also order from. They sell sandwiches, quiche, and cake.
Aleya B — Google review
This is our second visit to Eseltjiesrus. The staff is dedicated and there is a tranquil and peacefull atmosphere in which the donkeys is cared for. Please visit this sanctuary if you are in the vicinity!
Riaan C — Google review
We have 3 different donkeys that we adopted. Ziggi, Dowwe Dolla and Alice. Have managed to get in 3 visits when we that way. Lots of books for sale as well as donkey memorabilia. They also sell lovely lunches.
Kaz B — Google review
Nice place to spend some time with the kids. Nice meals under the shade or inside. Many gifts used to support the sanctuary and naturally getting time to spend with the donkeys themselves where you can pet them with a guide nearby giving you an overview of everything. Very well looked after place and worth a stop.
Heinrich B — Google review
Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary is easy for find on the Langverwagten Road to McGregor from Robertson and there's a slow gravel road to the parking area. The farm is expansive and it would be tricky to move from the parking to the restaurant if you are a wheelchair user. The food was good though it took a while to arrive and while she delivered good and friendly service, Brittany appeared overworked as she operated both as a waiter, cashier, and in the kitchen. They feed the rescue donkeys at 12pm and Jermaine is excellent in handling both the donkeys and entertaining guests. You can also sponsor a recue donkey and they have lots of merchandise on sale which goes toward the support of the farm. If you're feeling energetic, there's a walk as well or you could sit and enjoy the view on the farm. There's shading for those very hot summer days.
Duncan A — Google review
Beautiful sanctuary. This is really a haven for donkeys with a peaceful atmosphere, large, clean, well-maintained enclosures and people who are genuinely passionate about helping these intelligent, gentle animals. We also got to see the cutest flock of ducklings at their duck pond. They have a cute bookstore where we stocked up on very interesting titles, including a bunch of Afrikaans poetry books for me. The little donkey store has lovely art, toys, wine and more. The restaurant had a vegan option. I would highly recommend visiting this wonderful place and supporting their cause. They really do much needed and valuable work for these animals in the sanctuary and the community.

We had a great time at Lord's, with it's remote, beautiful location giving a very peaceful feel compared to other wineries in the area. We were travelling with our 1 year old daughter, and our host, Chandre, couldn't do more to make her (and us) feel welcome, even bringing out a small table and chair with colouring pencils for our little girl. We really enjoyed the wine tasting and thought the prices are very reasonable. Thanks to all at Lord's for making our afternoon memorable, we'd gladly return!

Just 10km outside McGregor on a reasonable gravel road Had lunch there on 15 March to celebrate a few birthdays Started with some wine tasting at r50 pp for 5 wines. Then had lunch at the Bistro The venue is quite large and opens onto a big balcony with amazing views The service was great and some complimentary champagne for the birthday ladies Our food order ranged from burgers to steak and every meal was really nice There was a nice friendly atmosphere. Accommodation is also available on site We went here on a recommendation and very certainly very happy we did
Andre H — Google review
Very affordable wine tasting! Pet friendly and staff was great. Found an outside spot away from other dogs though as they are not all friendly, and off leash.. but great spot to unwind. 8+km gravel road to get to the venue
Wilma M — Google review
Beautiful scenery, about 10k out of McGregor on good gravel road, huge green lawns - dog friendly, kid friendly, & delicious milkshakes! Wine was nice, favourite was the Pinot Noir. Also had pizza and carrot cake, both were yummy. Would recommend a visit if in the area, enjoy wine tasting and have your pups with you. Didn't get much info on the wine, but didn't ask either... Staff friendly and welcoming.
Kim G — Google review
This place is a true gem! Don’t let the 10km gravel road deter you—it’s in excellent condition and easily accessible for any car. The wines are outstanding, with the MCC Brut standing out as a favorite. We also loved the 3 Barrel Selection. A few bottles of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir have found their way into our cellar, and we thoroughly enjoyed a chilled bottle of Pinot Noir Rosé alongside delicious pizza from their restaurant. A big thanks to Candre for being such a friendly and attentive host, making our tasting experience unforgettable. Thank you, Lord’s Wines—keep crafting exceptional wines!

Beautiful wine farm just ousted of McGregor via a very good gravel road. Pet friendly too! I did not taste the wines but the pizza and milkshakes were divine!

It was such a disappointing meal in a beautiful venue . The pizza was cold and tasteless and the service below par . I had to get help myself several times and wander aimlessly for assistance. The chocolate sauce was unappetising too . Not good value for money unfortunately.

Lovely trail to see the disas. Just breathtaking! Meet some friendly staff on our way down doing maintenance. Takes about 1 hour to get up to the disas. Views from the top spectacular

The most beautiful scenic mountain nature reserve with well marked level walks, kloofs, waterfalls & an abundance of testing mountain hikes.
Ann P — Google review
Early morning walks at the Greyton nature reserve are magnificent! There are several trails here. We did the Hardepeerkloof trail and it took about 2 hours with stops in between to take photos and breathe in the fresh air. The views are so beautiful. I love the picturesque rolling hills and the way the sun hits the mountains. It is so peaceful, quiet, and calming. If you're doing the Hardepeerkloof trail, make sure to go clockwise from the start as some parts are very steep, and is better to climb up than risk slipping down.
Amy H — Google review
Absolutely one of the best Hikes we have ventured on (Boesmanskloof), beautiful mountain back drops, well maintained paths and spectacular scenery - the hiking trail from Greyton side is a strenuous one, but definitely worth it, lots of up hill for the first 4.5km along the jeep track with a picnic spot (breakfast rock) at around 3.8km then single track through the valley with plenty view points along the way, up to Oakes falls, which is a spectacular waterfall into a pool where you can picnic, swim and rest, the last leg of the hike up to Die Glag accommodation is steep but the views are amazing, we went end of March

This is truly a great experience! You can enjoy nature at its best. The trail routes are clearly marked. We did not have any difficulties navigating along the well kept trails. The nature reserve staf are friendly and helpful. Take your swimming gear with when you do the waterfall route.

Nature & Parks
Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, located in Montagu and about a 3-hour drive from Cape Town, is an expansive 58,000-hectare rugged reserve nestled amidst the Anysberg and Warmwaterberg Mountains. It offers various accommodation options, with the Gondwana Family Lodge being ideal for a luxury family bush holiday. The reserve boasts unique indigenous flora and fauna, ancient rock art, and rare wildlife species.
Sanbona was stunning and offered a five star safari experience. Located in the Little Karoo about three hours from Cape Town, the expedition was first-class. The transportation provided was a must for reducing stress and arriving on-time so we could experience the evening game drive and a sunset cocktail overlooking the hippos. The food and service were outstanding, and our game driver, Marco, was superb! We saw giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions, cheetahs, hippos, zebras, and more. The early morning game drives were made comfortable with hot water bottles, coffee, and endless snacks. The picnic lunch overlooking the mountains and star-gazing Braai were also highlights of the trip. Sanbona was the perfect Safari option if you want to skip the trip to Kruger. Note: it is recommended to bring cash in Rand for tips. 350 Rand per couple per day for your safari guide and a daily staff tip at your discretion.

We had the most incredible time at Sanbona. It was the trip of a lifetime. Everything from the moment we arrived at the welcome lodge was absolutely perfect. Tilney Manor was so peaceful, comfortable and luxurious. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive and the service was impeccable. The food (and there was LOTS) was always delicious and varied. But nothing stands up to the incredible reserve. Our guide, Jordan, was such an expert and made our game drives truly unforgettable experiences. Every drive brought a new and wonderful experience - we saw giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions, cheetah, baboons, zebra, and much more! The conservation work and research they're doing is amazing! Can't recommend it more highly and we desperately want to go back!

Thank you so much for this wonderful stay. I have never experienced a vacation like this before – right in the middle of nowhere, yet so perfect. From the warm welcome at the Main Gate to the refreshing towels upon arrival at the lodge, everything was flawless. The friendliness of the managers, our guide Marco who gave us unforgettable moments, and the attentiveness of all the staff such as Ricardo, Nelly, and many others made our stay truly special. Every wish was taken care of with such thoughtfulness. This is a holiday that will remain in our hearts forever.

Sanbona was the highlight of our trip! The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, the food was incredible, and the views were outstanding whether you were out on safari, sitting by the pool, or simply sitting in your room. We were here for ~4 days and each safari ride was better than the last thanks to our fantastic guide!

A fabulous time! We stayed in Tilney manor for 3 nights. Everything was exceptional. Such a beautiful experience seeing all the wildlife, Jan was our safari guide, he has experience is knowledgeable and ever so humorous to be around! Thank you to Tilney staff for management of our rooms, the delicious meals and an all round a memory my husband and I will reflect on for a lifetime! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for an ethical safari experience and still be close to Cape Town!

Sanbona was the perfect ending to our honeymoon—peaceful, unforgettable, and absolutely magical. The team was so welcoming and friendly, we truly felt at home. They even provided halal food for us and made sure we were taken care of at every moment. Our guide Janri was amazing—professional, kind, and knowledgeable. Thanks to him, we encountered lots of wildlife, including the Big Five, and learned so much along the way. The lodge managers were just as warm and made every detail feel special. We’re leaving today, but a piece of our hearts is still at Sanbona. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a luxury, authentic safari experience.

Did not realise it was another 1.5 hrs to the lodge from the entrance , my bad. However, that 1.5 hrs met with several springboks and an elephant along the way, which was so memorable. The accommodation was perfect , the best part of it was our ranger Yandry, he is so experience and took us to see the big 5s and provided so much knowledge for us to appreciate the animals. The rest of the staff were amazing as well. Irshaad who took care of us when we were dining, Monica was a great ambassador for Sanbona and a gentleman I forgot his name who met us at departure . The immaculate service eg the welcome hot towels when we came back from drives, the delicious and high quality food and beverage. It’s great value for what you pay for. Highly recommend.

The museum consists of several historical buildings showcasing the town's past and Dutch architecture. It houses period furnishings and craftsmen’s workshops from the 18th and 19th centuries. Additionally, visitors can explore a working wheat mill on its beautiful grounds. For dining options, there are restaurants nearby such as Field and Fork and The Republic offering local craft beer and gin.
Great visit, really informative. The staff are also very helpful. Good walk between the three sites, we made a whole day out of the visit, stopping at the cafés for lunch and ice cream then continuing on to the next sites

What a pleasant experience to visit the different exhibitions of the Drostdy Museum in Swellendam! When we arrived, we were welcomed by a very friendly lady who sold us entrance tickets and who gave us some background on the different exhibitions. We visited the old jail, the Drostdy House and the exhibition of wagons and carriages. It was clear that a lot of effort had been made to get the exhibits as complete as possible and to give a true-to-life version of Swellendam's history. Here an there it is clear that maintenance was outstanding, but overall the facilities and exhibitions left a good impression. Visitingthe museum when you visit Swellendam is a must.

Here is consisted in 3 areas apart from each other(3minutes by walk). The entrance fee is 80 rands per person. There are many interesting things(100-200 years old)in each building by its own theme. Like in smith house, you can see smith tools in 19th. It’ll take 1-2hrs depends on your style. Buildings are just fantastic when it combine with blue sky and mountain! Recommended!

We stopped at the Drostdy Museum to explore what it had to offer and found it absolutely fascinating. The old jail cells provided a sobering and thought-provoking experience, while the walk through the Ambagswerf or Trade Yard, was truly impressive and beautifully preserved. I loved every moment of it. Strolling through the Magistrate’s House and the courtroom felt like stepping back in time. If you have a passion for history, I highly recommend visiting this remarkable place.

Lovely, quaint museum located in the heart of Swellendam. It would be the perfect picnic spot and a great little walkabout. There was lots to learn about the history of Swellendam. The museum is divided into various sections and is free to the public. We went on a Sunday and enjoyed having the place to ourselves as we took our time exploring the complex.

Lovely museum in the fourth oldest town in South Africa. The three-site layout leads you to walk through the town a bit as well, giving you the opportunity to experience the calm atmosphere. The museum showcases colonial homes as they would have looked in the 18th and 19th century. One also cannot miss the second-oldest jail in South Africa! Definitely a must-see if you are in town

The park features well-maintained hiking trails that wind through diverse flora, perfect for both day visitors and those staying overnight in cozy rest camps.

The Bontebok National Park is conveniently located just off the busy N2 national road, making it easily accessible by any type of vehicle. It’s a perfect stop for day visitors looking to stretch their legs during a road trip. The park offers several short hiking trails and a cycling route, along with designated fishing spots along the river. It is one of the few National Parks that allows fishing, hiking, and cycling without restrictions, so you can enjoy the activities without worry. The park also provides facilities for overnight camping as well as accommodation in chalets. For more information, visit the SANParks website.
Pierre W — Google review
Disappointed by the state of the campsite after a long time of not visiting the reserve. The sites were small and provided little or no privacy from the next site. The biggest drawback of the whole camp was the dubbeltjie and tree thorns on the ground. The ground was also exceptionally hard and a mallet is advisable. The signage for the different trails was also very misleading and no indication of what to expect - rocky/thorny/steep inclines/declines. The one shorter trail required all 4's and holding onto plants/grass to avoid slipping in one place. The ablution block on the other hand was fantastic. Modern, clean and very accessible. There's a scullery with hot water and a food prep area with 4 plate electric plates, a microwave and a kwikot water heater with permanently available boiling water on tap. There are chalets available in the campsite, including 2 mobility challenged and 4 family. There are antelope & zebra to be seen and there is a 'game viewing' route, but this is not a big game reserve. The bird life is varied and depends on seasons. If the aloes are flowering/how high the river level is/how much rain has fallen. It can be wet. It can be cold and it can be extremely hot. The water at the camp is safe to drink, but be prepared for even changes in temperature between day and night.
Liz T — Google review
Amazing cooking facilities and ablution blocks but the lack of any information on the park or trails is unfortunate. No one at reception volunteered any. There is a notice at reception of the names and distance of the walks but nothing else. There are no maps of the area or indication of the terrain or difficulty of the trail. Trails are poorly signposted. The reception is very new but all exhibits are old and tired. Faded photographs with very little information. Bontebok park has a wealth of birds but not one photograph. The camp sites (only 3 with no power) were very thorny and felt in need of maintenace The views of the river are lovely but acess to the river from camp is challenging. A lot of money appears to have been spent on decoration and little on conservation. V sad

Didn't see any animals. Pro tip, take insect repellant on the hikes. Only did the short hike but I heard the long one is the most popular. Driving the loop can be done with a normal car, but better with high ground clearance vehicle. The top race course viewpoint was serene.

The trails are well-marked with provided maps, leading hikers through beautiful vistas, rock formations, colorful fynbos, and birdwatching opportunities. A cave with ancient rock art and a picnic spot under the trees provide additional points of interest along the way. The reserve caters to different fitness levels and offers stunning mountain views.

An excellent place for a self catering weekend away in the mountains with friends or family. 2 hours from Cape Town. You can even have families in adjacent houses. The four guest houses have magnificent views, are spacious and well equipped. A place to go to where you feel like not wanting to go home.

Fantastic trails to suit all levels of fitness, stunning views, interesting rock formations and a cave with rock art, what a great hike! We were lucky enough to see a couple of Klipspringers and enjoyed watching the baboons. We visited the week before they closed to day visitors (unless you book a guided tour) but would definitely return and stay.

It is beautiful there. I took spectacular photos of landscapes and plants. However I wish there were more dish cloths and toilet paper. It is required that one does not leave dirty dishes, but then enough dish cloths must be provided. One dirty-coloured dish cloth is simply not enough.

We came only for the hiking, but the trails are in great shape and the views are great. We loved being able to see the rock art, especially! We appreciate that it is possible for people to come take the trails even if they aren’t staying in the accommodations there. The fee was quite reasonable.

Raka Wine is a great spot for wine tasting, away from the crowds in Stellenbosch. The place offers ample indoor and outdoor space, an excellent wine list, and amazing service. Visitors can also explore the self-serve "deli" area to complement their tasting with snacks like cheese and crackers. Additionally, guests have the option to get their favorite wines shipped for free.
I had the Raka Wines Wine & Ice Cream Tasting – A Sweet Surprise in the Valley🥰 Tucked away between the mountains and vineyards near Stanford, Raka Wines offers more than just your usual wine tasting – they’ve taken it up a notch with a wine and ice cream pairing that’s both playful and sophisticated. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed by panoramic views of rolling vineyards and the majestic Kleinriver Mountains. The tasting room is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who walk you through the wine and ice cream pairings like it’s a delicious adventure. Unexpected but delightful – think rich Shiraz paired with dark chocolate ice cream, or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc alongside a citrus sorbet. Each spoonful brings out new notes in the wine, and the combination is a total treat for the senses. The sweetness of the ice cream complements the wine’s tannins and acidity in a way that feels indulgent but clever. The Vibe Relaxed, scenic, and well thought out. You can sit back with your wine, take in the fresh air, and soak up the views – it’s a perfect spot for a lazy afternoon with friends or a special outing. My thoughts: Raka’s wine and ice cream tasting is more than just a novelty – it’s an experience that lingers. It’s fun, it’s fresh, and it’s the kind of thing that makes you appreciate wine from a whole new angle. Highly recommended if you’re in the Overberg area and looking for something a little different! Ps: Well priced for such a great experience 😜

It was lovely to finally visit the farm behind a wine brand I've come to notice in stores. The wine and cheese tasting was thoroughly enjoyable, offering a great way to sample their offerings. Even though it was quite quiet during our visit, the service was prompt and attentive. A real highlight for collectors is that they sell different sized bottles of their collector's wine—a nice touch for enthusiasts! My only suggestion would be for the venue to give the decor a bit of attention to match the quality of the wine. Overall, definitely worth a stop for the tasting!

Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary, located outside Stanford in the Overberg region, is a popular tourist attraction that has seen nearly 20,000 visitors. The sanctuary is known for its educational work and the well-being of its big cats. Visitors are guided through the area by knowledgeable volunteers who provide information about the sanctuary and its residents. The big cats have spacious enclosures and appear to be comfortable and well-cared for.
Visited Panthera Africa this morning with my teenage daughter and we were both blown away by this truly ethical sanctuary. Coming from experiences with wildlife facilities in Thailand where animals seemed drugged and listless, this was a complete revelation. This is what a real sanctuary looks like - no breeding, no trading, no tourist interactions with the animals. Every decision here is made with the cats' welfare as the priority. You can see and feel the difference immediately. Our guide was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, sharing detailed information about each species and the heartbreaking but hopeful rescue stories of individual animals. The staff clearly genuinely care about these cats and it shows in everything they do. The difference in the animals was striking - these big cats were alert, active, and displaying natural behaviors. No signs of the sedation or stress we've unfortunately seen elsewhere. They live in spacious, natural enclosures where they can be themselves. My daughter learned so much about the real issues in captive big cat breeding and the importance of ethical sanctuaries. This visit opened our eyes to conservation in a meaningful way. Panthera Africa is doing vital work and deserves all the support they can get. This is how wildlife conservation should be done. If you're in the Western Cape, make the drive to Stanford - it's absolutely worth it to support an organization that truly puts the animals fiirst.
Peter J — Google review
Visiting Panthera Big Cat Sanctuary in Stanford was both heartbreaking and inspiring. Hearing the stories of lions, tigers, and leopards rescued from the lion bone trade, tiger bone medicine trade, and other cruelty brought the reality of these issues to life in a way I’ll never forget. What makes Panthera exceptional is their 100% ethical approach. The animals live in spacious, natural habitats tailored to their needs, with an enrichment enclosure to keep them stimulated — no petting, no exploitation, just genuine care. Our guide, Kate, was outstanding — knowledgeable, passionate, and happy to answer every question. The visit was educational, emotional, and truly impressive to see how the sanctuary is determined to respect the animals and give them the dignity they deserve. I highly recommend this to all ages. If you can, please visit, donate, and help them continue their incredible work.
Bianca W — Google review
What an awesome experience!! Did one of their tours a few days ago and really enjoyed it. I was a bit sceptical about the ethical aspects but it seems like a honest sanctuary and I couldn’t find any negative things about it. They’re acting in the best interest of the animals. If the animals don’t want to be seen you won’t see them. Personally I rather not see them but know that they are comfortable instead of them being in a small cage just for the sake of humans entertainment! They inform you about all the animals and their history which also helps you to understand the animal rights in (south) Africa more. So all in all a pleasant experience and a good sanctuary to support.
Everrr H — Google review
I absolutely loved this experience: it was very educational, it raised our awareness of what is actually happening out there with wild cats. I love what they stand for, they ethics and love and care for animals. Claire handled our group so well despite of so many small kids. I know I will visit again because we all thoroughly enjoyed it!
Lucie N — Google review
Panthera Big Cat Sanctuary is an absolute gem and one of the very few true ethical sanctuaries in South Africa. Their passion and dedication to the welfare of the big cats is evident in every detail. This isn’t about petting or playing with the animals and that’s exactly how it should be. Unlike many other big cat parks, Panthera is all about respecting the animals, giving them the space, care, and dignity they deserve. We had Kate as our guide, and she was fantastic her knowledge, engaging storytelling, and willingness to answer every question made the experience truly memorable. Thank you for such an incredible time, Kate. Hearing the cats’ stories and learning about the work being done here left me inspired to support their cause. For anyone visiting or travelling near the Hermanus area, this is an absolute must-visit. You’re not just enjoying a unique experience you’re contributing to an incredible mission. Please consider visiting and donating to help them continue this vital work.
Weabo B — Google review
Excellent sanctuary. Definitely worth a visit. Our guide Kate gave us extensive knowledge about the breeding trade as well as the bone trade in South Africa. She also gave us the back stories of the saved animals in the sanctuary which gave them character. Instead of just a tiger/lion etc they had names and a survival story. Definitely recommending for friends and family.
Olivia N — Google review
Absolutely amazing tour, very knowledgeable staff and insightful tour that managed to get very close to the cats.
Mark R — Google review
You need to book a tour in advance, as individual visits aren’t allowed — rightly so, in the interest of the animals’ well-being. Our guide Kate was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of information, which is exactly what you’d hope for from an educational visit. We were able to see all the resident felines and learned in depth about the wildcats, the sanctuary’s background and, on the contrary, the broader industry that exploits big cats. It was clear that everything here is truly done with the animals’ welfare in mind. A must for anyone who wants to understand the realities behind South Africa’s wildlife industry.

A pretty trail is how I'd describe this one. Surrounded by pretty flowers, plants, trees and vistas each day. The trail is easy to follow and not too challenging which makes it a pleasant three days. Accommodation is excellent in two different houses with all comforts seen to including a hot tub which was one of my highlights. Trail manager Ian is friendly, kind and helpful at all times. We had the most wonderful three-day hike on the Fynbos Trail, truly one of the most beautiful trails I’ve experienced. It was such a special time of year to see the abundance of pincushions in bloom. Ian was a fantastic and attentive host, sharing his deep knowledge of the veld and environment, which made the experience even more meaningful. The cottages were very well equipped with everything we needed, and what a treat to climb into a made bed with fresh bedding after a long day of hiking! We also thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and had great fun making pizzas on the first night.

The walk was harder than we expected, especially on the second day, so don't underestimate the strength and stamina required, but it is worth every minute spent in the wild fynbos.
Brenda G — Google review
Spent two and a half days on the trail, and whilst not all that difficult, you'd know you've done it. Lodgings were set in corners of paradise and food was good too. But the big attraction is exceptional scenery, multiple biomes we hiked through on well marked paths. Fynbos is in great condition, and is an attraction all of its own. A waterfall, forests reminding me of Knysna, fill in some of the wonder. Our party of good friends made the experience that much more memorable, and Ian, the host, made us feel welcome and valued.

Lomond Wine Estate is located on the Agulhas Plain near Gansbaai, South Africa. The estate offers a variety of red and white wines for tasting, along with a small menu featuring commendable options like the fig and camembert toastie. Visitors can also enjoy mountain bike trails and clean facilities. The farm's unique location near the ocean and surrounded by indigenous fynbos contributes to its wonderful wine production and overall visitor experience.
Not to be missed, no fuss, down to earth wine tasting with an abundant and tasty platter. A lot nicer staff and service and less pretentious than the large wineries in western cape. Recommend the brut rosé and pincushion.

Beautiful wine estate the view for me was💯 stuff very friendly and professional we arrived close to closing time but they still gave us a great customer service💯 I did the red wine tasting I found the wine's body to be lighter that I would prefer... Overall it's was a great afternoon with friends and I would give it a 9/10👌💯

Started off a family members birthday celebrations here. Lovely fire going on this winters day which is always such a bonus when venturing out. The lady who help us was so sweet and patient as we were a big group and she was the only 1 working on the 12th of July. Enjoyed the wines & views.
Outside S — Google review
Our waiter from past Easter Saturday 2025 in courtyard spent to much time with larger groups and only came to our table to provide us with our 6 tastings, which happened in 2 sets. First 3 white tastings then 20min later the 3 red tastings. He also forgot our order that's was placed from kiddies menu for our daughter. I tried to engage about the Belladona 🍾 but he was not interested. Just poured our tastings and walked away.... We ended up leaving after 60min.... Lastly When I paid with my Absa savings account (red card) and gave him a tip he made a sarcastic remark, "can that card tap or must you insert it" . That did not sit well with me. We will not be back anytime soon....

Its a bit out in the sticks, but well worth the visit. The view from the tasting room is peaceful and beautiful. The wines are great and well priced. The lady who served us was very knowledgeable.

The road to this wine farm, especially, after the recent heavy rains, has to be negotiated with caution if you travel in a normal sedan. A heartly welcome greedted us. A very small playground for small children is at the premisis. They do have a variety of red and white wines, which can be tasted for a fee. A small menu is available and the fig + camenbear toastie is commendable.👍 Some mountain bikes trails can be cycled. Bathroom was clean. This winery is most definitely commendable.

We came for the 3 day Yeti Trail Race but enjoyed a lovely wine tasting and light snack. Staff were a attentive and knowledgeable. It would have been great to have a broader menu. The place is beautiful and has so much potential. Would do the cheese and trout platter next time.

This view from the tasting room was just breathtaking. The layout is nice and modern and spacious. There are various different wine tastings, and they offer a sweet pairing done with nougat. There are various platters as well. It's definitely worth a visit!

The reserve features 14km of rocky coastline, sandstone cliffs, and dunes covered with coastal fynbos. It's accessible from the Buffalo Bay road and provides camping sites with varying sizes, protection from elements, shade, and proximity to facilities.
We absolutely loved our stay at De Hoop Nature Reserve! Our two nights at the hotel were very comfortable and provided the perfect base for exploring this stunning coastal paradise. The highlight of our visit was joining the morning bird watching tour - such an incredible experience! We were amazed by the variety of birds and the knowledgeable guides. We would definitely come back to experience more of what this beautiful reserve has to offer. The hotel’s excellent service and comfortable rooms made our stay even more memorable. A perfect destination for anyone looking to experience South Africa’s natural wonders!

What an amazing experience! The trail wasn’t too tough for me, but fitness levels will vary. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and the huts are well-equipped—except for the last one, which is more basic. Be sure to stock up on supplies before entering the reserve. I’m so grateful to live in such a stunning country. I’d definitely do this hike again!

My wife and I enjoyed camping under Wild Fig trees in a beautiful and private camp site. Each with water, electricity and a braai. Clean ablution facilities with friendly staff. We did trail running on three days while cycling and hiking is also options. Will visit again!

Terrific walks and beautiful surroundings, spectacular views while hiking. The only time we saw a large herd of Hartebeest during our time in South Africa, asking with other wildlife.

When you think you’ve seen it all… WHAT A PLACE. Absolutely stunning and impressive. Comparable to Cape of Good Hope but way more nature und less tourists. Totally love it. Had relatively bad weather but still insanely great. Did the 5km hike which is doable with a „basic stamina“. Paid R180 for 3 people. 100% worth it.

Lovely Nature Reserve Great to camp as generally not busy & sites private. Sites vary in size, protection from elements, shade, closeness to bathrooms etc so check carefully what would suit your camping equipment & the experience sought. Bathrooms are well serviced despite being a little old. Staff very friendly & hand soaps etc top class. Then there's the wash up area that provides dish soap, scourers, dish towels & replaced once used. Water pressure not the best if busy but water always hot. The reserve as a whole is a treasure chest for the adventure - plenty miles to bike, hike, snorkel, explore dunes,, spot animals & birds. There's tours offered, river cruises etc. There's a restaurant, pool & more and guests seem mainly international. Definitely worth a visit & staff are most welcoming & friendly.
Brenner K — Google review
A world class destination with well maintained amenities. The Bites beach cafe has a good selection of well priced meals with an out of this world whale sighting experience. There is a bit of a walk from the parking down to the cafe, but this is on a well paved dual track. This is accessible on an assisted wheelchair. The game viewing is authentic and unique, with loads of diversity in fauna and flora. Bring binoculars or a camera.

Elim is a charming village located on the Agulhas Plain in the Western Cape of South Africa. Founded in 1824 by German missionaries, it served as a Moravian mission station. The area is known for its unique wines, with the region's ferricrete soils and constant coastal winds contributing to a distinctive minerality in the wine. Despite being a challenging location for grape cultivation, Elim offers an alternative experience for wine enthusiasts seeking something different from the bucolic valleys of the region.

Kapula Candles, located in Bredasdorp, is more than just a candle shop. It's a vibrant display of African art and design. The warm glow from the burning candles is complemented by the vivacious colors and delicate forms of their products. In addition to an array of hand-painted candles, visitors can find stunning crockery, ceramics, chandeliers, and artworks at the shop.
The correct address for the shop is on the corner of Pattinson and Cereal street. 13 cereal street is where the workshop is. Loved this artisan shop, the items are well hand crafted and affordable. The shop also acts as a platform for home made items for South African artist's, kind of like a live Etsy shop. Home items from bags, candles, crockery, ceramics to chandeliers and art works. Toilets on the premisis and the store has a warehouse feel to it which also lends itself to the shop being quite dusty.
Nosipho M — Google review
What an amazing store well worth the visit. The candles, ceramics, and artwork are just out of this world. Very reasonable as well.
Karen — Google review
This huge candle shop is absolutely amazing. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Best service by far, I had this year with a company. I enquired about custom-made candles for a wedding. Mr John Van Reenen went out of his way to accommodate me. Calling back to enquire about certain aspects. Even made the candles in my acquired color. 5 days later, it was couriered 1200 km to Gauteng. This shop has a huge variety of candles in any size and color.

If ever you are in the vicinity of Bredasdorp, do yourself a favour and stop at Kapula Candles. You will be surprised that it is much more than candles. Here you will find a vast array of cups, mugs, plates and all with hand painted, stunning motives. You see some of it in duty free at Oliver Tambo airport except that here you get value for your money. If you have a guest house, here is the place to kit yourself out with extraordinary crockery. Amazing to say the least.

Shipwreck Museum Bredasdorp

History Museums
The Shipwreck Museum Bredasdorp offers a haunting yet captivating journey through the history of over 150 ships that met their fate along the treacherous coast of Cape Agulhas. From tales of gallantry during shipwrecks to artifacts salvaged from these maritime tragedies, the museum provides a glimpse into an era when seafaring was fraught with peril and adventure.
Excellently done and well maintained museum. We enjoyed it and found the place very interesting and informative.
John T — Google review
The museum is still well kept. Friendly staff. Clean toilets. We paid R35.00 per person. Lost of cool history. Over 200 ships sank along that coastal line.
Aldo T — Google review
Incredible collection of shipwreck artefacts and beautiful displays. Portrays the magnificance of these ships, the hardship of the impact, losses, survivors, the efforts to salvage and the rich history of each ship. Helpful staff can fill you in on items and answer questions. Thank you! Well worth the visit.
Hugo P — Google review
Interesting small museum. They display small items from shipwrecks around the area. Some other interesting stuff in display as well including an old house to showcase the way of life. There are a few coaches and a fire engine at the back as well. Entry Adults R30/ Kids R15. Staff were pretty helpful. Must stop if you are passing through the area.
Rick R — Google review
Excellent experience. I learned a lot about the shipwrecks and the local history. Really was a lovey little museum and I would visit again
David P — Google review
With all the lost ships around the coastal area there is very little information in the museum with stories or background around the wrecks. Expected more info. Why make the effort of keeping a museum with some good artifacts but so little around the history.
MikeV — Google review
It is a wonderful walk (or should that be sail?) through history when shipping was more than transporting goods and a leisure trip. Back then, it was how people travelled great distances and came with its unique set of challenges. The evidence of wrecks on display illustrate the pain of several lives lost so tragically – and the long time it must have taken for their families to be told. Nevertheless, the museum would do well to have guides or voice clips at the various displays to give some context for those who may not be familiar with the maritime history of Bredasdorp. Outside, you will find a great place to relax with benches placed in the shade and sunshine to cater to your taste. There are neat and clean (though small) bathrooms on site and the lawns are well manicured. It was disappointing that the museum only accepts cash as payment. It’s worth your R30, but there’s greater potential here.
Duncan A — Google review
Excellent museum. The staff made the exhibitions come alive for my group of 13 primary kids. We really enjoyed our visit. Even the one boy who don't like visiting museums found the visit interesting and not "boring" at all.

This chef certainly knows how to pack a yummy platter The wine tasting also was a treat - stunning wines with a fabulous Sauvignon Blanc selection. We also loved the bubbly and the Syrah The service was so attentive and top class = well trained, friendly staff And the drive and the setting is just sublime = altogether a lovely day

Recommend the Rose - what a beautiful wine, beautiful space- however the plate what over priced for what we got (do not pay for everyone, if you are 6people pay for 3 people on the platter, it will be enough) but with that said it was still beautifully put together, great experience and would definitely recommend if you are this side of the world.

Lovely outing with friends to this beautiful venue. Wine great as always. Our first time to try the new pizza menu. The pizza's are delicious, thin crispy bases with high quality ingredient toppings. Each of the 8 pizzas we orders was a hit. My kids enjoyed an after lunch swim in the pool.

I had an amazing time at Kassiesbaai Guest House in Arniston. The rooms were incredibly comfortable and cozy, with beds that provided excellent comfort. The hosts were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The views from the patio were awe-inspiring, offering a stunning sight to behold. What made it even better was the presence of an undisturbed and secluded beach just a short distance away, making it an ideal location.
My favourite place in South Africa. Lorna and Edwin welcome you in their warm and lovely home. Perfect spot, right on the beach. They are so friendly, caring, that I felt like staying with my uncle and auntie. I was lucky to stay with them twice this year and will go back again when ever I have the chance.

Had a fabulous time at Kassiesbaai Guest House in Arniston. The rooms were very cosy and very comfortable beds. Our hosts were extremely friendly and hospitable. The views from the patio were breathtaking... and with an unspoilt and private beach only about 50m away, it was perfect. Had some really nice romantic walks along that beach. We were lucky if we saw more than 5 people on this private beach, unlike the main beach or Arniston which was more commercialized. All in all... Kassiesbaai Guest House was the perfect Arniston accommodation.

It's recognized as a World Heritage Site and offers various activities such as short hikes including the 7km Stern Trail, fishing in the river, swimming at a designated area with picnic facilities, and a boardwalk leading to a lookout point with breathtaking views.
Such a beautiful spot. Good to go early to get the most out of the day. Also if you want a picnic table near the entrance. If you fine with walking, there are lots of place along the river (lowtide) and on the beach to sit with blanket. Well maintained,no music or rowdy drinkers. One can enjoy nature and swimming in the river. as well as cooling off near the front of the sea. I don't venture in too deep. Well done Cape Nature.

Tranquil, unspoilt and nature at its best. Pity the bridge still isn't fixed but walking along the estuary is wonderful and great for birders.

Beautiful nature reserve and lady at reception was very friendly and helpful. Great boardwalk around the lagoon, but sadly the bridge across the lagoon broke in the floods over a year ago and still not repaired ... so you can't actually complete the walk 🤔

A lovely nature reserve. We tackled the 7km walk/hike. It was easy, no high level of fitness required. The walk through the bush was great, then a descend towards the most beautiful beach. Be careful to turn towards the river when heading back as the route is not clearly marked on the beach side. Beautiful, clean, well kept and easy hike. We ended with going up to the view point. 2 hours well spent Overall a great experience for me and my family. We would do this again in a heartbeat.
