Nature & Parks
iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO-listed 820,390-acre reserve on South Africa's Elephant Coast, boasts diverse environments including beaches, coral reefs, dunes, and swamp forests. The park is home to the largest estuary in Africa - the St Lucia Estuary - where visitors can enjoy hippo and crocodile safaris or boat trips to spot whales and dolphins.
The views whiles driving through park, just breathtaking! The sounds if animals, snakes as we passed the thick bushes on either side of the stretch of road. The climax was when we drove up to Cape Vidal beach! It just felt like we weren't in South Africa! We were in a foreign country. The mood is relaxed, not full despite the fact that it was Jan 1st 2025! The beach has no life guards, it's a beach to relax & have a picnic by the beach. Swimming is at one's own risk! We passed a few chalets and a camp site located within the wetlands. Driving through the park at the max speed of 50 in places 30 & in some places 20km/h took us roughly 2hrs. We enjoyed our drive & the scenery we don't have in Jhb

For this time of the year the park was so green. We saw Zebra's 🦓, Kudu's, Elephants 🐘 Impala's, Buffaloes 🐃, Bush Pigs 🐽 and lots of beautiful bird 🐦 species. At Cape Vidal we saw vervet Monkeys 🙊 and mongoose. This is one of the most treasured wetland parks in South Africa. Well worth the visit.
Juanita — Google review
Nice park with massive lake in the middle. Great for relaxing drives and sun downer stops. We had a stunning stop for sundowners close by the lake. Make sure you don’t miss that. Probably most noteworthy is Cape Vidal as a point of interest in the park. We recommend the boat cruise instead of the game drive. The park is massive and the game viewing is okay. Somewhat difficult to find animals other than Antilopes, zebra and small game or birds. Hence the boat ride might be more exciting for visitors with limited time at their hands.

Amazing experience, bring a telephoto lens with you!

The roads are horrific leading up to the Sodwana gate. The signage also needs to be improved leading up to the park. Google Maps also needs to be updated, however, when you find it's wild and absolutely gorgeous. Just a few tweaks and in my opinion this is the best park to visit in South Africa. We saw all the species of buck, zebra, elephant, a huge snake, lots of birds, tortoise, giraffe and warthog, It's great that it's also much more affordable now.
Natasha O — Google review
It was quite rainy the day that we went but wow, wow, wow! We still saw some beautiful animals and even had elephants in the road (we had to wait about 2 hours until they went off tue road and we could pass). Truly magnificent to have the bush, wetland, and beach experience!
Cat S — Google review
We took a boat tour with a group and saw several hippo families. The wetlands are beautiful. The guides were good. Well worth the trip.

Easy drive and pleasant way to see wildlife. We saw some zebra, warthog, buck along the way, and monkeys at Cape Vidal beach.

St Lucia Cheese Farm and Forest Lodge

Restaurant
Shopping
St Lucia Cheese Farm and Forest Lodge has undergone significant improvements under new ownership. Visitors appreciate the warm hospitality and recommend dining at the farm for a delightful off-grid experience. The serene environment and delicious food, including excellent pizza with vegetarian options, are highlights of a visit. Families also enjoy the fantastic play area for kids and the charming on-site shop.
Lovely little curio shop next to the restaurant. Beautiful zulu heritage blankets. Breathtaking views. The road was a bit rustic after the rains to get there hut well worth the effort. Friendly staff too. So helpful.
Giselle B — Google review
This restaurant is on a working farm. Goats milk cheese is being produced on the farm. This is utopia for kids, where they can walk amongst the farm animals, play put-put and run around freely. Food is prepared on order, so you might wait a little longer for farm fresh, delicious food. But believe me, it's worth every minute. This is a firm favourite stop for lunch on the way to and back from St Lucia.
Heleen E — Google review
We loved our stay at Cheese and Forest Lodge! Ideally located between St Lucia and Umfolozi, it offered a peaceful farm setting with a huge, well-maintained kids’ play area and friendly farm animals to visit. The included breakfast was a hearty, delicious farm-style fry-up, and the service was excellent—staff were genuinely friendly and caring. The small on-site shop was a lovely bonus, stocked with farm-fresh cheese (of course!), soaps, jams, and other handmade goodies. I loved all the various art pieces dotted around the place including the one in our room. Highly recommended for families!
Lucinda D — Google review
On a very blustery day in St Lucia, we decided to take a drive to the Cheese Farm and have a lunch. We were not disappointed! The owner made us feel very welcome and our waiter Sakile was very helpful friendly and efficient! The crispy thin crust pizza is the best I've had in a long time. Hubby ordered the new vegetarian with butternut, blue cheese, red onion and mushrooms, which was absolutely delicious and I had the Mbuzi, which has goat Chevin, basil, Feta, sweet Fig and pecan nut, very very yummy. The surroundings are very pretty and peaceful. It was lovely to look over the beautiful gardens at the farm animals and listen to the cooing doves. We will definitely be stopping off on our way home for a brekkie and a slice of home-made lemon Meringue pie!
Dalton H — Google review
Visited this venue for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we received from the owners. The food was great and the service was fast. The service staff that we interacted with were all efficient, professional and friendly. The venue is located in a picturesque area which is peaceful and relaxing. I will definitely visit again on my next trip to the area!
Craig B — Google review
The owners were friendly, and the service from the waiter was excellent. That's about where the compliments end. We specifically went to try their pizza after going through recommendations on Facebook. I do understand that I will be paying a bit more than the average price for a pizza because it is private restaurant, but I expect the pizza to be on par with what you get from other franchises. It wasn't even on par, and if you take fuel inconsideration, it's not worth it. We ordered one of the top priced pizzas. I wouldn't recommend going to the place on a hot day. There are no fans or misters to keep you cool outside. There is a swimming pool, but it's unclear whether one can use it. The road to the restaurant isn't terrible, but it is a bad gravel road. We drove in a large suv, and it felt bad.
Louis T — Google review
I would not recommend anyone going to this restaurant unless the owners make some serious improvements. The only positive thing about our experience was the friendly waiter, she was lovely and provided us with very friendly service. Firstly the name of this establishment is very misleading. We expected a selection of cheeses to buy and also perhaps a cheese tasting experience of sorts. Secondly the restaurant does not have any means of keeping customers cool during extremely hot days. They have aircon inside, but do not even have fans or misters outside to keep guests comfortable. While waiting for our food we decided to go view the animals at the bottom. We are both avid animal lovers and this experience left us both feeling very sombre and actually sick to our stomachs. We were greeted by chickens in very small and dirty pens all hyperventilating from the heat and one of them looking awful with all of it’s missing feathers. Next we walked on to the poor ducks, cramped into an even smaller pen with only a single regular sized bath to swim in. The bath also had a plank in for a ramp, making it even smaller. Of the 5/6 ducks per pen only 2 were able to fit in the water at a time to keep cool. This to us is 100% animal neglect. Not to mention how absolutely dirty and disgusting the water was in both of these baths. After this we were so put oft together with the scorching heat that we actually asked to take our pizza in a takeaway. We ordered a pizza from the menu that sounded amazing and cost R195 which we thought was hefty, but we thought the taste would at least make up for the price. We were very disappointed by the pizza. It was covered in excessive flour at the bottom, had very few meaty toppings on and the taste was bland. Not at all what we were expecting for that price and we both regretted spending so much money on that pizza. I really hope the owners read this comment and do some reflection. I see our reviews are a few of many negative reviews which I regret not reading before travelling all the way.

The staff and the owners of the place are soo loving and caring, they are like family now. They serve fresh food 😋 we go there more often just eat their mouth watering food.

Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park

Mentioned on

Nature & Parks
Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, also known as Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, is the oldest game park in Africa and spans over 96,000 hectares. It is renowned for its conservation efforts for both black and white rhinos. The park offers a chance to see the 'big five' animals - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.
What an unforgettable trip to Hluhluwe Game Reserve! The staff's hospitality and genuine kindness were exceptional from the moment we arrived. Every member of the team was friendly, generous, and happy to help. Our chalet was comfortable and fully equipped, but it was the game drives that truly stole the show. We were so fortunate to see a remarkable number of animals, a record for me! This was a very special holiday for me as I treated my gorgeous mum and sister to a holiday at Hluhluwe GR whilst visiting from Australia Melbourne, and the experience exceeded all our expectations. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this trip so memorable.
Alison W — Google review
From the first hello at the gate, we felt looked after. Every ranger and receptionist we met was easygoing, attentive, and genuinely keen to make our stay smooth. Our unit was spotless and snug—a hot shower after the evening drive felt like luxury—yet it was the time out in the reserve that swept us away. Dawn breaks, steaming mugs in hand, then suddenly the bush comes alive: rhino in the mist, elephants ghosting through the fever trees, a burst of oxpeckers and laughter in the vehicle. I’ve never ticked so many sightings in a single trip. What made it unforgettable was sharing it with family. We swapped seats so everyone got the best views, argued (happily) over which moment was “the one,” and ended each night under a sky full of stars, grateful and quiet. Hluhluwe–iMfolozi gave us more than animals and photos—it gave us that rare feeling of time stretching in the best possible way. Heartfelt thanks to the team who made it feel effortless; we left rested, thrilled, and already planning the next visit.
Dylan L — Google review
A little bit rough approach to the park (potholes, cattle and goats), but very good roads in the park. Both paved and dirt roads were accessible to small 2wd cars. The staff were very friendly and helpful a d the rest and camp areas were well appointed and safe. We only had about 4 hours and couldn't cover the 96 000 hectares, but we saw plentiful animals including Elephants, Buffaloes (well in excess of 100), Rhinoceros, Hyena, Nyala, Warthog, Gazelle, Zebra, Monkeys, even a very large Iguana, and more. Unfortunately we missed out on the Lions and Leopards, but we'll try again next time. The veld and views were just magnificent. This in itself already made the trip worthwhile. All-up really good value for money and definitely worth the trip. We would seriously consider booking a night or two at one of the camps on our next visit to the area.
Jansen P — Google review
Wow what an amazing park. Great game viewing. Probably the best park with kids in South Africa. We stayed two nights at Hilltop Camp. Just perfect no complaints. If you want to see Rhinos this is the park saw 11 on our first day
Alexander O — Google review
An unbelievably amazing day. Rhino, Elephants, Giraffes and Zebras were the main highlights for us! A beautiful park with amazing facilities and a great restaurant! Staff here were among the friendliest! Great that Petrol was available too as we needed it!

Amazing safari experience. We used Heritage Safari tours. I want to also give a huge shout out to the two receptionist at the counter who were very friendly and helpful while we waited for our driver.

Always so nice to get away. Still my favorite park! Always have good sightings
Marc S — Google review
We loved this park!! Since we've been to four other SanParks, we didn't expect much, but we truly saw so many animals. Not as many birds, but still a few interesting ones. Entered for free on our Wild card.

Alkantstrand Beach

Mentioned on
1 list
Beach
Outdoor Activities
Alkantstrand Beach is a popular spot for surfing and swimming, offering amenities like shaded picnic areas, BBQs, and an ablution block. It's known for its Amanzimtoti atmosphere and attracts crowds during holidays. The beach features vigilant lifeguards, a lighthouse lookout point for picturesque views, and tight security at the entrance. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as kitesurfing, fishing, and swimming.
Safe, clean and a nice beach to swim at. There are two sides of the beach that you can swim at which is basically on both sides of the life guard station. The one beach has place to sit on the beach itself where you can directly enter the ocean, but the other beach you have to climb down sand bags to enter the ocean.

If you have a boat this is the place good fishing in the harbour and deep sea ...Best of all is Richard's Bay camp site very clean and organized.... Pelican island unfortunately looked like a dump site ....rubbish and brocken bottles by the ton
Pio A — Google review
Beautiful beach and fun too! Life guards are always alert and the lookout point at the light house is the place to take pictures if your a tourist... There is hardly any crime here, however this beach can become overcrowded on public holidays and school holidays. Nevertheless it still remains one of the best beaches ever. I just wish investors would build a small restaurant or food court here in a settable manner.
Daniel M — Google review
I haven't had so much fun at a beach in a while. The presence and engagement of the life guards makes you feel very safe.
Siyabulela M — Google review
Beautiful beach. Usually busy on weekends. The city has tried to reduce the alcohol and littering issues but more can be done. Nice place to come and spend time by the sea with family, friends or picnic, braai facilities are available. Bathrooms are usually clean. Security could also be improved as there have been reports of vehicles being stolen off the parking lot. Should you get into trouble, lifeguards are there to assist during working hours, after hours they're no they'll have knocked off. Overall a nice place to pop in by and have a visit.
Sandile M — Google review
The beach allows for a variety of activities like swimming, kitesurfing and even fishing. The entrance has tight security and thorough entrance inspections are conducted for banned items such as alcohol which is not allowed. The pier has a lighthouse and the views are really amazing.

🛍️✨ Just had a fantastic day at Boardwalk Mall! The variety of shops is incredible, and I found everything I needed (and more! 😄). The atmosphere is vibrant, and there are plenty of cosy spots to relax and enjoy a bite to eat. 🍽️ Definitely a must-visit if you're looking for a fun shopping experience! #BoardwalkMall #ShoppingSpree #GoodVibes

Doors are broken for months, escalators put of order for weeks. Starting to look like the GM does not care. I cut my foot on a broken door months ago and she promised to prioritise fixing it. Still nothing. I’m ashamed to call this ‘our’ centre
Derick M — Google review
I was disappointed when I visited Boardwalk Mall, the Management needs review how the public access toilets. When one is at the mall he/she is there to spend money so there is no need to pay an extra fee just to access the toilet. Just do your research on how other Malls are maintaining their toilets without charging the Public and by doing so you will attract more customers.
Nozipho F — Google review
We stopped by at this mall on the 4th October at 2pm on route to Jozini, as my little child needed to desperately use the loo as he was unwell. I rushed out the car while my husband tried to find parking. When we got to the loo, we found that it was a paid toilet (which I have no problem with). My child could not wait even a minute longer . I had no cash on me so I asked the rude lady sitting at a desk collecting payment to allow us in. She ignored me and then insisted he uses the male toilet by himself!!! Firstly he was unwell and is a minor! How can it be an expectation that I send a minor child alone into a public bathroom? I ignored her and went into the ladies bathroom with my child. She started causing a scene and called security. In less than a minute - 4 security guards arrived looking for my 7 year old child that had gone into the ladies toilet. They came in looking for a “male that is in the toilet”. At that time my husband was still trying to find the toilet in the mall. When my son was done , they started harassing me for the R2 , trust me paying wasn’t the problem. I again told them that my husband was on his way. They then asked that I leave my child with them and go get the R2!!!What rubbish is this? By that time my husband arrived and told them he had to draw cash, they then insisted I wait while he goes and gets the cash! When he came back the lady collecting the cash charged R4 instead of R2 because I accompanied by child. I bet the extra R2 went into her pocket! Still, the money isn’t the issue. It’s the filthy stinking disgusting attitude of your security. With the robberies and mugging and theft of vehicles that happen in and outside your mall, r- your security should focus more on that than wanting to hold my child and I ransom for R2I dare the mall management to investigate this and provide feedback!
Melanie C — Google review
The mall has a decent variety of stores and the overall layout is clean and easy to navigate. There’s a good mix of food outlets and retail options, but one major letdown is the lack of free Wi-Fi. Most modern malls offer complimentary Wi-Fi as a basic service, and it's surprising that this one doesn't. It would really improve the customer experience if they added it.
Rapelang R — Google review
Very nice mall just need to look at 30min free parking as when you need to drop off or grab somthing you need to pay for parking but every thing you need you will find there grate stuff👌👌👌

Umlalazi Nature Reserve

Mentioned on

Nature preserve
Nature & Parks
Umlalazi Nature Reserve is a beautiful coastal sanctuary featuring swamp forests, boardwalks, and beaches. It's renowned for being the habitat of the palm-nut vulture and offers walking trails that wind through picturesque dune and forest ecosystems, making it a paradise for bird enthusiasts. Visitors can explore the Indaba Tree, which holds historical significance as a site where John Dunn conducted meetings. The reserve also boasts tranquil picnic spots and a pristine beach perfect for swimming.
Umlalazi Nature reserve offer the family a wonderful experience. Picnic sites are nestled in bushy surroundings, generously spaced to offer great privacy. The estuary has a wonderful mangrove walk, with stunning views of the river. The beach has an expansive sandy area with unprotected, but wonderful swimming. The beach parking is expansive and there are many public ablution facilities. For such a reasonable entrance fee, this is a great option.
Timothy E — Google review
The reason for the 3 star 🌟 is because Ezemvelo could do better. The ablutions are disgusting particularly at the entrance. I wonder what the staff do all day. As for the reserve itself what a beautiful place, prolific birdlife, creatures great and small abound just being in sure a beautiful place is an amazing experience from grasslands, to shady trees for picnics (if you can fight off the monkeys) human problem not monkey problem, to beach and lagoon. Gorgeous. If the park could be kept in good order by its warders/keepers then it would get a 5 on my rating. Oh and leave your alcohol and music at home please.
Loren ( — Google review
What a beautiful place. The camp site, Inkwazi, is really beautiful but the ablutions have a lot to be desired! Very sad to see them in this condition and this would be the only reason we won’t be rushing back there sadly.
Penny M — Google review
R35 per person to go into the park. Worth every cent. Good clean facilities. For a fun half day: 1. Go to the main Beach and dip your feet. ( beware this beach does not have lifeguards...do not swim). 2. Head to the lagoon and take a walk on the mangrove boardwalk. We saw monkeys and the curious fiddler crabs. 3. Unpack your picnic or braai stuff at the lagoon while the more active in the group head along the Forrest walk in the direction of the the river mouth. Alovely half day activity.
Moz R — Google review
This is a beautiful place to get away from the busy city. It's relatively clean, with so much to do, from trails, to beach access, to educational boards posted around the reserve, braai areas and so much more. Red duiker, zebra and tons of critters and birds. Its a big reserve too, so you have choice in activities and where to spend your time. Entrance was R60 per person and the vehicle is checked on exiting.
Franki G — Google review
A beautiful place all-round. But wow, the way the log cabins are structured brings no fresh breeze whatsoever. A fan would definitely do to keep things easy and cool.

Shakaland

Mentioned on
1 list
Permanently Closed
Hotel
Sights & Landmarks
Shakaland is a cultural village and living museum that showcases the Zulu people's traditional way of life. It is located in KwaZulu-Natal, previously known as Zululand, and offers educational tours for visitors to experience traditional tool making, beer tasting ceremonies, and performances of songs and dances by locals dressed in customary attire. The village also features chic huts equipped with satellite TV and a colourful restaurant.
An excellent experience esp for city kids like us. We stayed a night only at the Shakaland Traditional Zulu Handwoven bee-hive hut and experienced two Shaka cultural programme whilst there. The facilities and amenities are modern despite the Zulu outlook. WiFi is only available at two area: the reception and bar area but they are top notch. Take it from me. I'm from Singapore and I'm raving about the WiFi at Shakaland. Their executive from HQ who happened to stay overnight too, observed city kids like us congregating at the reception area after dinner instead of retreating to our room, we explained the need to stay connected. He said he will bring the feedback back to the HQ. So if you stay here next time, and could connect to civilization, the credit is ours. For those who want to cut off from modern world, you can always choose to disconnect. All meals here are cooked pretty much similar to modern hotel chains. Oh and pack more bottled water before coming here. Each bottle costs R26 here. The Zulu tribes here speak good English and have a great sense of humour. We also picked up beautiful handmade bracelets here as souvenirs. R10 a piece. (R10~US$0.70)
Jeannie O — Google review
The guided tour through the village was very informative and encouraged guest participation. The guide allowed for questions and answered these very confidently and is very knowledgeable. The spirited dance at the conclusion was a fitting end to the walk through the village and gave a sense of the energy of the Zulu warriors in battle. The lunch served was wholesome and offered a wide variety of options.
Frances B — Google review
The Zulu cultural village is a unique place absolutely worth a visit! The village's location is on top of a hill overviewing a lake. The main house is in traditional style like the rest of the village but with a typical Safari lodge touch (well, from the 80th). There even is a pool. The people are super friendly, they try really hard to give and show you information about the Zulu culture (spread over the whole day). We stayed overnight in one of these traditional huts. Well, they are stunning and spacious. But please consider that this will become a basic experience. It's a hut. Last not least the food: really well made and even for vegetarians a lot to choose from. We enjoyed our stay very much!
Georg J — Google review
This place is rubbish accommodation. The huts are dark, and not only smell like a wet dog after a run in the park, but exude dampness from every surface, pillow, and sheet. It was a bit gross to sleep on. The fixtures, fittings, and furniture were also quite tired and in need of updating. The bar staff always had to be hunted down to get a drink, as they were never behind the bar. When I found one, I was treated like an annoyance and not a customer. Dirty pool water, no sun loungers by the pool. I could go on, but I'll end this review with the cherry on top: AT 6:55 AM THEY MARCH AROUND THE ROOMS BEATING A DRUM! A drum before 7am.... Just not a good idea guys!
Robert L — Google review
The tour was ok, felt rushed from one point to the next. I would suggest less content and more time on explaining things properly so that one can understand the ways of living before moving on to the next thing. I also felt trapped in the big hut at the end whilst the dancing was taking place. Either make it a bit shorter or tell people that they can pop outside and come back if they want to. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The food was very good.
Simone C — Google review
I visited and stayed here in 2011 and it was not bad. Good show, comfortable but not luxury accommodation. Fast forward to 2020. Not much maintenance. Surly staff - gone were the laughing Zulu's: now into the "get as much as you can from the tourists". Expensive drinks. They seem to have a deal with Eshowe Council to traffic fine rental vehicles to/from the main road on their short and little used access road: no explanation/justification provided so you are forced to pay a R300 entry/exit fee regardless of what time you spend at the facility. Government corruption at work? - tourists beware!

Shakaland is intriguing and confusing. It offers a simple introduction into traditional Zulu culture and as such it is useful and interesting. It is an odd mixture of authentic and tourist - I imagine it is very difficult for those running Shakaland to know what mixture of information and entertainment to offer. We enjoyed the tour of Zululand living and customs and the show was vibrant. We were fortunate that on the evening we attended there was a large group of local Zulu secondary students in the audience, which gave the event a strong vibe and the perfomers responded well. It was said that a few week's earlier there were only a handful of people in the audience and it is hard to think the experience would have been so immersive. The buffet at the end of the evening had a wide variety of choice, well-cooked and presented, and with both local and 'western' dishes.
Robert F — Google review
Shakaland brings history to life with an excellent service! A blend of traditional and modern, the huts take one away from the hustle and bustle of city life only to represent it in the enthusiasm found in the sale of Zulu memorabilia. Modern comforts are not neglected and it is possible to withdraw from the heat to air conditioned rooms. There is also a very able restaurant. Shakaland is more than just a tour of the past with mod cons. It is an opportunity to take part in the Zulu culture.

Surprisingly nice place. You can only pay in cash though. You are guided through the museum and pottery sections. The guides are really knowledgeable and are able to explain the history of the country really well. We got some education in zulu culture too even though we are from Natal. Well worth a visit for 2 or 3 hours.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Princes Grant Golf Course, where expansive greens and remarkable fairways provide a distinctive and exhilarating challenge for golfers. Ranked at a commendable position among South Africa's top courses (no. 43), its breathtaking coastal backdrop combined with impeccable course maintenance make it a must-visit for golfers of every skill level. The service provided from beginning to end was outstanding, and the course itself is well maintained, offering a genuine test of skill while being in excellent condition.

Lovely course, friendly staff & members. The greens are slow but enjoyable and the course is well maintained and groomed. Carts are neat and proshop staff also very helpful and friendly. Very nice setting and scenery. Definitely worth the trip from Umhlanga holiday. Thanks!

We stayed at the Prince’s Grant Lodge for 3D2N. We booked a huge room with king size bed and wrap around balcony. The view of our room facing the golf course and the sea was truly amazing. It was a very relaxing staycation. We love the staff, everyone is just very friendly and helpful. The food at the lodge was also good and that’s one factor that made our stay very comfortable. The whole property is huge, safe with great security. Make sure once you check in at the lodge to ask the frontdesk about biometrics registration so that you can access the beach. This place is a great quick getaway from Durban, just a good 45-50 minute drive off the N2.

Really a top class golf course. First time playing this course. Welcomed by staff, great little pro shop with Christopher being most helpful and very friendly. Course is in very good shape and greens magnificent. The views in and around the course is also something to admire. Half way house we had a bunny chow (lamb) and it was amazing. Great taste and flavour. Definitely coming back for another round of golf.

Flag Farm Animal Farm, located in Saint Lucia, is a sanctuary for over 1000 animals, including birds, reptiles, and wolves. Notably, 80% of the animals are rescued. The farm offers a great venue for events like birthday parties with plenty of activities and a popular play area for kids. While there's no electricity on site, the facilities are well-maintained with clean toilets available.
Wow! WOW! Just WOW 🤩 What an incredible afternoon spent at the Flag animal Farm. From the second we arrived we were greeted by friendly smiles, cheerful chatter & plenty different animal noises. The cow milking show was an absolute hoot, getting everyone involved. The staff are so much fun creating such an awesome, relaxed atmosphere. We sang & danced & laughed until the cows came home (literally!) from the humongous pig to the lazy lambs. Each & every animal is well looked after, fed & cared for. The tractor ride had me in hysterics with the driver singing Old Mac Donald’s Farm with the biggest smile on her face… Please support this amazing farm!! The animals need us, the children will thank us & the adults, well- if they are anything like me- they won’t want to leave! ❤️ Keep up the EXCELLENT effort Flag Animal Farm Team. We see you!

They have lots of different animals that they have rescued. They are living in much better circumstances than when they were rescued. There's lots of opportunities for children and adults to interact with the animals and there are plenty of play areas where children of various ages can play. I really recommend a visit if you're in the vicinity. The entrance fee is not too expensive either.

We loved this place as a family, especially my daughter. Lots of space to run around, the slides are located all around the farm. It was so nice to interact with the animals. The reptile show was nice and short, which was great because my daughter doesnt like sitting in one place for long.

A shopping visit in Ballito turned into a wonderful visit to Flag Animal Farm. The place is clean and has a variety of activities from viewing and feeding animals, pony rides and tractor rides for the kids and shows throughout the day about animals which ghe kids and adults will love. I also love that you can bring your own food, have a braai as there is ample seating areas available as well. Last but not least I truly appreciated the professional service from entering the farm to leaving. I high recommend this Facilty for a great day out for kids and adults. Keep up the great work guys.

Fantastic day out with the kids. Friendly and professional personnel. Well priced and informative. Kids can interact with animals. The best part is the work they do to rescue animals in distress.

A good place for kids to kill a couple of hours. Small but nice selection of rehabilitation animals, the pony ride is the world's shortest ride...staff were friendly. A coffee shop would have been great...

Flag Animal Farm is such an amazing place doing incredible work rescuing and rehabilitating animals in need. You can see how much love and care goes into giving them a safe, clean, and happy home. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always around to make sure both the animals and visitors are well looked after. The educational shows are great, and it’s the perfect place for kids to learn, play, and have fun — from the jungle gyms to the water park. A big thank you to the whole team for all the love, effort, and heart you put into everything you do. Truly a wonderful day out for the whole family!

Thompsons Beach

Outdoor Activities
Thompsons Bay Beach is a picturesque sandy shore situated in a sheltered cove, featuring low and rugged cliffs. This beach is highly appreciated by visitors due to its renowned hole in the wall, which provides an awe-inspiring view to relax and enjoy. The beach also has a large tidal pool called Charlies Pool for tanning or snorkeling that is protected from winds by the cave.
There is a small parking area with a steep path leading down to the beach. A beautiful, rocky beach protected by shark nets and lifeguards, but not as safe for swimming as Willard. The adjacent tidal pool is large and fun to swim in, especially at high tide when the waves splash onto the rocks and into the pool. The beach and ablution facilities were quite clean, but the whole area around the pool is in need of an upgrade. The outside showers were great. Once we got used to the weirdos hanging around the pool, it was quite an enjoyable experience.
Bongani C — Google review
Overall good beach, a bit small with a tidal pool onsite which is great. Lifeguards on duty as well as changerooms and toilets. Just bring your own food if you plan on staying longer, there are no restaurants on the actual beach other than some Ice cream vendors

The beach is really clean and water very blue and clear. The waves are really great and can catch you offguard🤣.The environment was very clean and is incomparable to most of the beaches in KZN.The tidal pool is also a very great feature and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it.
Lindiwe V — Google review
The natural beauty is amazing.. The tidal pool itself is great, take your goggles and snorkeling sets with, but there's been deterioration since the last I've been there. The bathroom area isn't exactly clean and we'll kept, toilets small and floors are dirty. No supervision there. Lifeguards are dismissive, not exactly friendly. If you force a conversation they'll talk but other than that they stare but are not pleasant. The ocean itself is lovely, just be careful of the waves, very unpredictable.. Rip currents common

It was 1 Sunday morning and it was literally a hot morning. I felt I could do a walk on the beach or just go for a peaceful drive along the beach roads. So driving along Ballito side & we ended up in this beautiful serene atmosphere. Its called the hole in the wall in Thompson’s bay were not many people know about this place. Very exciting. I will be sure to visit this beauty again coming very early along with my picnic basket and well dressed for the beach and tidal pool. Loved climbing up the rocks and just sitting there enjoy nature. Hearing the sound of the waves and birds chirping and singing. Not much of a walk going down to the beach. Very safe. Lots of parking. Just park your car. There are car guards..& walk you go. Be sure to carry everything with you otherwise you will have to walk up again. This was quiet an adventure. Really enjoyed.
Nerisha B — Google review
A relatively intimate beach located in the northern region of Ballito. This is currently one of the few beaches in the (Greater) Durban region thus it’s definitely worth the 30-40 minute drive from Durban CBD, to enjoy. It’s clean, not overly populated and extremely serene. This beach is also kid-friendly and provides a solid day out at the beach. There are picnic benches available on site. The key attraction is the “hole in the wall”, as well as the rock pool. These unique features give Thompson’s Beach that edge. There’s relatively adequate parking on site, as well as street parking. This is a beautiful beach and definitely worth the outing!

Wow! What an amazing experience we had visiting Crocodile Creek!! The tour guide was very informative and fun in the way he was talking and explaining about the crocodiles and the place. The place is kept very neat and clean, if the water seems dirty, it’s not… it’s duck wheat.. aids in keeping the water level constant as well as the water temp. All crocs are well taken care off. There is a couple of monkeys, but they didn’t cause any nuisance, as well as sweet dogs and cats… A definite must visit!! The road leading to the croc creek isn’t of the best, which is understandable as it’s running between sugar cane farms, but the journey is well worth it!!

We thoughourly enjoyed our visit at Croc Creek. Very informative , learnt so much about the crocs. Tour guide was exceptional, very interesting and entertaining, made us laugh out loud. Great for a family outing , the kids went ballistic seeing all the crocs up close. The kiosk in the front for memorabilia items are rather pricey , perhaps if they lowered their prices they'd make a bit more money. I wanted to buy my infant a memory soft toy and for a small croc it was priced at R185. We did not eat here however they do have a menu with a few food options, we got some cool drinks and waters for the walk. Entrance fee for all of us (5) was very reasonable. Saw some massive crocs and our son and his cousin got to hold a 6 year old croc. We went on an extremely hot day so go when it's not too warm for a more comfortable experience and also you can see more crocs, on very hot days the crocs are all cooling off in the water, on cooler days they're on the land. Prams suitable for this venue , the only exception was the stairs as you enter into the "hall" where they have presentations. One can spend a few hours.

Just Wow. Shaun has been incredible. This is a once in a lifetime experience. There are 1000 crocs. There was a wolf too. Thank you to Shaun and the team for this experience I will truly never forget.

Moses Mabhida Stadium is a modern 56,000-seat venue in South Africa that has gained popularity for its state-of-the-art facilities and versatile usage. It hosted seven FIFA World Cup matches, including a star-studded semi-final in 2010. The stadium offers more than just sports events; it also hosts concerts and even features bungee jumping.
I was really impressed by how well-maintained and organised everything is. The stadium has a great atmosphere, whether you're there for a match or just a visit. What stood out for me is the convenience 🌸there are restaurants on-site, making it easy to grab a meal or a quick bite without having to leave the venue. There's also a gym inside, which is perfect for fitness lovers or athletes in training. Clean facilities, ample parking, and a professional vibe throughout.

We took the SkyCar up the arch just before sunset and the view over Durban stopped us in our tracks, ocean on one side, city stretching on the other. We took a few photos, then just leaned on the rail and watched the light slide across the roof. Even on a breezy evening it felt calm up there, like the city noise was on mute. Back at ground level we wandered the plaza, grabbed something to drink, and sat people-watching while the lights came on around the stadium. It’s one of those places that makes a simple hour feel like an occasion, easy, memorable, and worth the detour.

We went up in the SkyCar for a proper postcard view of Durban’s coastline, then lingered on the arch just to watch the city breathe. It’s clean, well-run, and surprisingly calming up there. If you’ve got nerves, the Big Swing is a rush; if not, the café and plaza still make it worth the stop. Sunset light on the arch is magic, photos do half the work for you.

Great place to visit. Great views and good architecture you won't regret it. I love the fact that it's easily accessible, spacious and clean too. Lots of parking space and a great environment. We've watched countless soccer matches and the atmosphere's always good and you get to meet different people.

We went up late afternoon and the views were exactly what we hoped for—ocean on one side, city on the other, and a steady breeze that makes you pause. Staff were calm and friendly, and the whole process felt smooth from ticketing to the ride down. It’s one of those “show your visitors this first” places because it sets the tone for Durban. Back at ground level we lingered on the plaza, grabbed something cold to drink, and watched people cycle past. It’s easy to pair with a walk toward the beachfront, so the outing turns into a simple, happy couple of hours.

Fantastic place where to stay even for the whole day. It could look at the first moment as a bit overcrowded but that's the magic of this place. People here are just sharing their joy and funny time. A lot of options were to grab some snacks or some different beach food such as ice cream or soft drinks. There is also plenty of restaurants or coffee shops so here is everything for the while day. Even free public showers🚀

Nature & Parks
Located along Durban's Golden Mile, uShaka Marine World is a top tourist attraction offering a variety of activities for the whole family. The complex includes Wet n Wild waterpark with thrilling rides, Sea World boasting the largest aquarium in the Southern Hemisphere, and Ushaka Kids World for younger visitors. Additionally, there are attractions such as a seal stadium, penguin exhibit, and scheduled dolphin shows.
This place is truly one of Durban’s gems and a must-visit for anyone looking to combine fun, adventure, and a touch of education. From the moment I walked through the vibrant uShaka Village Walk, I felt immersed in the atmosphere. The seal show was entertaining and full of charm, while the dolphin show was nothing short of magical; seeing these intelligent creatures up close was unforgettable. The aquarium is breathtaking, with its wide variety of marine life and incredible underwater displays. I also explored the Dangerous Animals and Reptiles exhibit, which added an exciting edge to the day - it was fascinating and a little thrilling to see these creatures so closely. Every section was well thought out, interactive, and engaging. What really stood out for me was how well the park blends education with entertainment. It’s not just about having fun; you also walk away learning more about marine life, conservation, and the beauty of the ocean. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the facilities were clean and well-maintained. Overall, uShaka Marine World elevated my experience in Durban - it’s the kind of place where families, couples, or even solo adventurers can all find something special. I left with great memories, plenty of photos, and the desire to come back again! Highly recommended. 🌊🐬🐠🐊

uShaka is always a lovely place to visit when coming to Durban. I hadn’t been here since before Covid and was worried when I saw all the negative reviews, however it’s not bad at all. There are staff everywhere to assist, the spaces are kept clean, and the shows, aquarium and slides are all very enjoyable. We were here during off peak season so it was not busy at all. The parking has attendants on the inside and you have to pay at the gate too. The payment at the gate was R21 for about 6 hours, which isn’t too bad. I recommend having some cash as well. It’s important to check the website before planning your trip so you know when is the best time to visit based on what’s available.

🌊 1. Sea World Home to one of the largest aquariums in the Southern Hemisphere. You can walk through underwater tunnels and view sharks, rays, turtles, dolphins, and colorful fish up close. There are dolphin and seal shows scheduled daily — both entertaining and educational. 💦 2. Wet ‘n Wild Water Park Features water slides, lazy rivers, splash pools, and high-speed rides. Great for families and thrill-seekers. Lifeguards are stationed throughout, and facilities are well maintained. 🏖️ 3. uShaka Beach and Village Walk Located right next to the ocean, with easy beach access. Village Walk offers shops, restaurants, and cafés — from fast food to seafood dining with ocean views. You can also find souvenirs, surfwear, and local crafts. 🧭 4. Animal Encounters Optional experiences like snorkeling in lagoons, shark cage dives, or meeting dolphins (book in advance). Great for adventure seekers or photography lovers. 🎭 5. Cultural and Family Vibes Themed around King Shaka Zulu — you’ll see touches of Zulu culture and storytelling throughout. The staff are generally friendly, and it’s a very family-friendly and educational space. ⭐ Overall Experience 🌟 Fun level: 9/10 🧒 Family friendliness: Excellent 💰 Value for money: Good (combo tickets often save you money) 🍽️ Food & facilities: Varied and clean 🐠 Highlight: The massive aquarium and dolphin show

uShaka is a beautiful big place to do alot of things, inreally think they did an outstanding job with the layout. The only thing I'd recommend is to improve on the seal show, it's was a little bit of a waist of time, they only have a short briefing then select soemone from the audience to meet a seal, and that's it show is over, I feel they can do a little more than a 5mint show, for me it was a waist the kids could hardly enjoy, the dolphin show was so amazing, got to give it tobthe staff that handles the dolphin show now that definitely worth to see, some areas where closed, and some restaurants are closed, so it's a little bit sad, I'd prefer to go early morning, as midday is extremely busy if you not someone for large groups of people. To view the marine life. They definitely are doing a great job and that you have an opportunity to meet the dolphins personally, but you would need to book ahead of time with them to personally have an experience with the dolphins. But the show you don't need booking.

uShaka Marine World is an incredible place to visit! The aquarium is one of the best I’ve seen, with an amazing variety of marine life and beautifully designed exhibits. The water park adds even more fun, especially for families with children. The atmosphere is vibrant and safe, with plenty of food and entertainment options around. I highly recommend booking tickets in advance, especially during weekends and holidays, as it gets very busy. A must-see attraction in Durban!
Yasser D — Google review
Best place to visit around Durban. There are Marine Aquarium, Dolphin and seal shows, Dangerous creature show, water adventures, rope adventure and water parks. Everything totally worth. You can also take seperate tickets for each events, but it's better to take combo tickets. Go for water park if u gonna spend the whole day there. Ticket prices are also not high, but affordable. We really enjoyed it
Churchill J — Google review
I've been wanting to go there for ages. I was not disappointed. The staff are really working hard to make it an amazing experience. The exhibits are well maintained. There are lots of shops and more than enough to eat and drink. I will certainly go back and can definitely recommend it.
Mari S — Google review
What a great experience at uShaka Marine World! We wandered through the aquarium and honestly lost track of time—quiet walkways, huge viewing windows, and that lovely hush when a turtle glides past. Even the “non-fish people” in our group ended up pointing things out and taking way too many photos. Outside had a fun, holiday feel. We grabbed an easy lunch, drifted between shops, and caught a dolphin show without planning to—perfect little break for our feet. Salty air, friendly staff, and plenty of shady spots made it an effortless day out. We left sun-tired, smiling, and already talking about coming back.

We slipped off for an hour between family visits and the city noise just melted, cool shade, giant trees, and easy paths you can wander without thinking. We found the lake, watched moorhens fussing around the lilies, and took a few photos before putting the phones away. It felt like a small breather in the middle of a busy family weekend. We grabbed cold drinks, sat under a big fig, and chatted about nothing important while the kids rolled down the lawn. Couples strolled past, a wedding shoot drifted by the orchids, and the whole place just moved at a gentler pace. Simple, calm, and exactly the reset we needed before heading back to the cousins.

Botanic Garden is beautiful, peace and quiet. I went on Saturday it was full yet so spacious as there was a wedding ceremony in the hall. People who were visiting the garden were able to access it. I would really recommend it 👌 if you want to relax, enjoy the view and nature.

We’ve had a visiting this place with my bestie and boyfriend! It’s totally free for everyone, and if you’re feeling generous, you can always donate a little something. Plus, there’s a great coffee spot and some books for super cheap. And don’t forget the cute little shop with all sorts of nice stuff and souvenirs!

I had a chance to visit the Durban Botanical Gardens a few months ago and it turned out to be one of those experiences that lingers with you long after you've left. I found the gardens peaceful and refreshing, with highlights like the orchid house, palm collection, and lake. The atmosphere felt calming yet full of discovery, blending history with natural beauty. Overall, it was a memorable place to relax, reflect, and reconnect with nature. A definite must visit if you are in Durban.

Beautiful and peaceful space in the heart of Durban. The educational signs make it a great spot for plant lovers, and the garden is perfect for a picnic or a romantic walk. There's also an affordable coffee shop on-site. Parking can be a bit difficult on busy days, but overall a lovely place to visit!

0/5 – Complete waste of time The 1000 Hills Information Centre is a total ghost town. Not a single person was there to assist. It felt abandoned, like no one had been around for ages. Definitely not what you’d expect from an “information” centre — absolutely nothing useful or welcoming about it. Don’t bother stopping here.

We rolled the windows down and took it slow, pulling over whenever a viewpoint popped up. It’s layer after layer of hills, the kind that make your phone photos look flat no matter how many you take. We just leaned on the railing, passed the chips around, and watched the light slide across the valleys. There’s a laid-back, small-town feel, kids waving, a few roadside stalls, a whiff of braai smoke now and then. We grabbed cold drinks, sat for a bit, and didn’t feel any need to rush. Simple drive, big views, mood reset.

There are also other amenities and activities besides hiking. Which is great. I only went to hike. There is also a restaurant and a play area for kids. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The road there was quite rough, but the views made up for it.

Can be given 5 stars if some issues are rectified. We were hiking on Macintosh trail over the weekend. On a positive note, Customer service and cleanliness gets 102%..... Appearance and layout very good. Many spots for families to relax and have picnics, well layed out, clean and overall safe. Trails to any of the falls or view points are excellent , and well marked. On a negative side there is only 2 toilets yet the customer support is so huge. One female toilet and males are supposed to share the paraplegic toilet. Unfortunately with the crowd goin there anybody uses any toilet so you have to stand in line and this makes it very uncomfortable especially for women and kids. That was disappointing. Another negative issue was on the route back from Macintosh falls at one point there's too many signages confusing the user ( 2 green signs both marked same but in opposite directions. 1 sign should have a pic of coffee shop like how it's done at Macintosh falls ). Luckily I had my Google maps enabled and it does work without data enabled as the website states showing me the direction I needed to take back to the start point. Overall a lovely place but people who are sickly or elderly going with kids should do the trail as far as the enchanted dam 😊. The hike to Macintosh falls ,its for people who are physically fit with high adrenaline expectations and definitely not for the feint hearted 😉. An excellent spot for bikers and hikers 👌👍👌

Nice mall with an ice rink, which keeps teenagers busy for a while. Lots of places to eat. The mall always has something happening during the holidays which is something to look forward to. It also hosts a “Galleria’s got talent”, which is so entertaining. There’s a free play are for little kids which is actually very nice for those parents who don’t always have money to spend on rides. The mall has a lovely Ferris wheel ride and bumper cars, which kids love.

Wow. This mall has it all. We visited for the Ice Rink and ended up enjoying the greater mall. There is entertainment for the entire family and a bewildering selection of restaurants. The mall is spacious and well laid out with modern and plush fittings. There are public, free rest rooms which are really clean and well maintained. The parking area is great and easy to navigate. All round, a great family experience.

Galleria Mall in Amanzimtoti is a fantastic spot for shopping and dining! The mall offers a variety of stores and restaurants, making it a great place to spend the day. I've heard great things about Eagle Canyon Spur, serving up delicious burgers, ribs, and steak in a family-friendly atmosphere. RocoMamas is another popular spot, offering tasty burgers and excellent service. If you're looking for some fun activities, KartingKZN has got you covered with their indoor go-kart tracks Some other notable mentions include John Dory's, Panarottis, and Mozambik, all offering delicious meals and great reviews. Overall, Galleria Mall seems like a wonderful place to relax

It is huge, so if you want excersize there is more than enough space. There are resturants there for a snack or a gourmet meal from a shrimp to a lobster to a piece of steak. Breakfast or even a cup of coffee is available. There are clothing, eating, groceries , hobby and cellphone shops as well as a play park for all ages
Billy C — Google review
I don’t have a problem with the mall itself but I have a HUGE problem with how the employees are treated. I recently found out that the mall’s employees have to pay for parking each day they come to work. This is ridiculous and a despicable way to treat your employees/tenants. Galleria, please do better and fix this mistake. R20 a day adds up to so much money per month and per year for people who ensure a great amount of revenue for you! Your employees deserve so much better!
Lindi Z — Google review
Adequate parking space, the solar panels give shade while advocating for cleaner sources of energy. A well rounded off shopping experience. The Food Court is situated conveniently on the top floor, ease of access to mobility challenged people.

Terrible service from Galleria Management. They do not respond to emails regarding security concerns & tenants not following CPA. Remax Creative at The Galleria is a terrible store. Extremely unprofessional service. They do not follow the CPA. Purchase a cover for an iPad. The quality was sub standard and after finding a better one in another store went back a few minutes later to return and was told I could not return it. After spending R1200 at the store. Extremely disssapointed. Don't expect Galleria to safeguard consumers!

Additionally, guests can enjoy Zulu dancing, lunch in the crocodile enclosure, and explore the reptile park.
Awesome for a first time game drive, views were great and the guide was very friendly and helpful throughout. Restaurant was reasonably priced and food was delicious… Overall amazing experiences, service and hospitality ✨

Such a wonderful place. Friendly stuff, stunning view, enjoyable game drive. Definitely worth going there! Don’t miss the Zulu Dance, you gain a short but interesting insight into its culture, putting you in a good mood.

We arrived and had plenty of time to look around the shop, crocodiles, restaurant, crocodiles, held a VERY big python (didn't realise just hold cold it would feel!), MORE crocodiles, and then the big drive through the park. It was BUMPY!! Which is quite a lot of fun for the kids! You get VERY close to the animals (gnu, kudu, giraffe, impala, warthog, zebra). The driver stopped and answered ALL the questions from our daughter. She impressed me with the number! But more impressive was the driver's answers! And, as in all of my reviews, would I go again? Yes. This time with a camera that was capable of self levelling and MUCH better zoom! Though, actually, not much zoom was needed! EDIT: Forgot to mention, the restaurant had a FANTASTIC view of "The Thousand Hills" (I didn't count them) and the food was excellent! Everywhere was clean and tidy. All the people working there were helpful and pleasant.

Phezulu Safari Park was the perfect introduction to South Africa for my fiancée. I am from Durban, so I am used to this sort of thing, but seeing it through her eyes made it feel new again. The park was clean, well-kept, and the views were absolutely beautiful. What really made the experience special was our guide, Sazi. He knew his stuff inside and out, and his passion for the animals really came through. You could tell the animals were healthy and well looked after, which made the whole experience even better. It was a brilliant intro to safari life and it has definitely sparked a new obsession with these incredible animals. Thank you to the team at Phezulu for a great time.

The market offers a variety of breakfast options and an array of stalls selling fresh foods, drinks, clothing, and more. Visitors can enjoy the cool atmosphere, live music bands, and a beer garden while browsing through the diverse offerings.
Wow, what amazing experience I had at this beautiful market. I have to give credit to the stall at I12 that sells their products "Mila essentials", their service was outstanding and friendly, they had so much patience and understanding answering all my questions even when i repeated the same question many times over. They helped me determine my type of skin and what would be better to help my skin improve. The products smell and feel great. I have ordered online before today, but they just got me to want more of those products. Thank you to them and their beautiful display and their welcoming personalities. I can see that they are passionate about what they are doing. Please take the time to go pop in and see for yourself, you will not regret it!

This is one of the finest markets I’ve visited in my home country, SA. The goods stalls are by and large nothing to write home about, but THE FOOD… the food stalls are nothing short of spectacular! Portions are large, fare is top-notch and lines move quickly. And the best thing about the market has to be the large communal outdoor, covered dining area. Live music and ample seating means I can go rustle up a family feast while wifey keeps a table and kids play on the well constructed toys and jungle gyms; all the while savouring great live music and a jovial atmosphere. You don’t have to fret about poor table service or tipping (which I’m not against, by the way). But for the value it’s probably the best place to take out-of-town visiting friends and treat them to a great meal without it costing you an arm and a leg.
Barry L — Google review
This is probably KZN’s best and biggest market, with a focus on variety and quality. You’ll find something of interest here, whether you’re looking for art, prepared food, fruit and veg, garden plants, clothing, books, music and DVDs, collectibles, secondhand tools, or things more eclectic. It’s been growing steadily since the 2020 lockdowns, with more undercover areas, and more stalls. I was disappointed to see that the farmer veggie stall that used to be in the first section seems to have disappeared, but there are other stalls selling fresh produce. Facilities like toilets and the massive parking area with super-attentive car attendants are still topnotch.

Finally experienced this market over the Easter weekend, it is nestled amongst beautiful greenery. The atmosphere is cool and you can literally breathe in the freshest of air. There are plenty of stalls selling a variety of fresh foods, drinks, clothing to other miscellaneous items. There is plenty of seating although this past weekend proved to be a super busy one. I would advise to get there around 6 - 6:30am to ensure good parking and seating. There are rides for kids, face painting etc. There is also a hiking trail which gives you a great view of the waterfall. Overall great experience and service from all vendors and staff.

Big shoutout to ScubaCo for quickly helping us out! Tamara recommended a trip less windy, and after a quick Google search, we requested a booking for the very next day – and they made it happen! The whole crew felt like family – super friendly, super knowledgeable, and pros. The skipper, the dive instructors, and the rest of the crew were all amazing. Despite being surrounded by sharks, we felt as safe. Thanks for the awesome trip on such short notice! We’ll definitely be back and sending everyone we know your way

Sardine Run 2024 - Amazing! 23-29 June we had five glorious days on the water. On our first drop just minutes from the beach at Mpane, the surface was active with dolphins, and birds from above, and after swimming to the sardine ball to our surprise we were greeted by a passing humpback whale, and then a Brides whale spies right next to us. The action was fast and furious as the dolphins herded up the sardines. The seals, sharks, whales, and dolphins would go in for a meal as the birds attacked from above. Spectacular experience all organized, outfitted, and led by SCUBACO. SCUBACO has the Sardine Run operation perfected with experienced captains who know what to look for to get you up close and in the action. Qualified Master Freedivers who will keep you in the action once dropped off from the boat and a full support crew on the beach handling everything from gear prep, cleaning, and storage to interfacing with the host at Bills Inn Fishing Lodge. Bill's Inn provides a perfect setting for this event on the banks of the river feeding into the ocean just a short walk to the beach launch. Nicely appointed accommodations with spectacular services and culinary delights. Oh did I forget to mention we even saw and swam with ORCA's! Rarely seen during the Sardine run, we experienced them hunting dolphins and later had the opportunity to experience them in the water as they approached our boat while we were in the water. Awe inspiring to see these majestic creatures up close in their environment. I also did a shark dive with SCUBACO at Aliwal Shoals and the Ragged Tooth sharks were amazing.

Top notch service including a warm freshwater facecloth to wipe the salt off after the dive! If you are looking to adventure into the Aliwal Shoal wonders you are 100% in good hands.

What an incredible scuba experience with ScubaCo! Our group of 5 visited over the Easter weekend and the team was so accommodating in scheduling our try dive. We had a bit of a mixup as none of us had diving certification and had scheduled a dive that required certification, but Tam & the team quickly realized the booking error and offered to change our dive plan the week of. We had the most surreal dive, great conditions, a blacktip reef shark sighting, and upon ascending to the surface and returning to the boat we were alerted by our skipper that a pod of common dolphins were in the area and we were able to observe them swimming within meters of us. Shoutout to our incredible guides Rudie, Abby, and Hayley who made sure we were safe and stayed together. I’m planning to return next year for certification!

I was there for a try dive with my parents. When we arrived everybody was very welcoming. Danie was a very supportive and patient instructor. He gave us such a great experience for our first dive. The next day he brought us to the perfect and very impressive dive as well. The guys at the diving school are very friendly, supportive, spontaneous, positive and cared about about our safety (and not the money). Perfect place to go diving, 100% recommendation. Thanks so much guys and see you!

Incredible diving with ScubaCo ! I completed my Open Water 20 and it was definitely an experience to remember. Extremely professional team. They make sure you are confident and comfortable in the water. I had Danie and Tristan taking me through the course - they made the learning process extremely fun. Our ocean dives were amazing and we saw really incredible fish, coral, rays and even a grey-tipped reef shark ! The rest of the team -including Tamara, Abbey and the skipper Dean, were all extremely helpful and friendly. Will definitely be returning to dive with them !! Thank you for exceeding all expectations :)

Had a great experience at the Raptor Center! They are hard at work building more enclosures for their birds and it’s looking like a great new spot for them! Was not able to see the flight show or feeding but would have loved that. We got a very informative tour and was very nice to see these birds up close! I believe the majority are rescued and they are working on breeding to help with population numbers as well! Awesome place!

What an incredible experience at the African Raptor Centre! Their new location is absolutely stunning, and it’s clear to see just how much dedication and passion the team has poured into creating such a special place. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed not just by the staff’s warmth but also by the impressive presence of some of Africa’s most iconic birds of prey. The bird show is an absolute must-see — it’s both thrilling and educational, giving you the chance to witness these magnificent raptors in flight while learning fascinating facts about their behaviour and conservation. Another highlight is the vulture feeding, an unforgettable experience that brings you face-to-face with these often misunderstood giants of the sky. Watching them feed while hearing about their vital role in the ecosystem really leaves you with a newfound appreciation.

So when it comes to sanctuary’s this place is just stunning! Their cages are so beautiful and you can see they go through effort to give the birds the best. The birds and the faculty are excellent. TAKE A HAT and a bottle of water if you’re going in summer and they don’t take cards so you can only pay with cash or eft.

Was awesome to see the amount of effort that has been put into them settling into their new premises! The birds are all happy and healthy- even some of the vultures sitting on eggs! Can't wait for the eagle enclosures to be complete. Keep up the hard work!

This place is so lovely, so educational, clean and very well looked after animals. We all make an impact on our surroundings, and it's so important to know where nature needs our help to recover or be saved from urban expansion. Always take something warm for the birds of prey show as it generally has a chilly wind, no matter the weather.

What a great educational experience at the African Raptor Centre. Our family thoroughly enjoyed it, from the youngest to the oldest. Show them your support and you won't regret the experience.

What a wonderful outing with the children. We were able to attend the bird show, which was a great educational experience. Birds look well cared for, clean facilities and a big variety birds We had a bite to eat at their coffee shop. Very basic, but great value for money and very tasty. Jungle gym area for the kids.

The KwaZulu-Natal Museum, housed in a historic building dating back to 1905, is a top national museum in South Africa. It offers an array of natural and cultural history exhibits, including a T-Rex skeleton and a replica Victorian street. The museum showcases impressive displays of insects, mammals, amphibians, birds, and molluscs. It's an ideal destination for families seeking adventure and exploration.
I'll never get tired of this place! The staff are so warm and friendly. They've added a lot of new experiences such as a VR center and some great new exhibits. I've also found a lot of braille around the museum which I think is great.

The most beautiful museum I’ve seen in KZN. Spotless, Clean , Quiet & very well maintained. Entrance was R20 , Donations welcome 🙂 Worth the visit. On street parking in front of the museum !

Genuinely good for kids and adults. They’ve got natural history, cultural history, fossils, taxidermy, those “what lived here long before us” displays — and it’s presented in a way that’s easy to understand, not overly academic. My favourite part is that it’s actually clean and maintained, which you can’t say for every small museum. If you’ve got children who get bored easily, this is a win. You can do it in about 60–90 minutes, and afterwards they’ve seen something real, not just sat on a phone. Really good rainy-day plan.

Visited the museum when attending a Summit for Women in STEM, took a scroll around the museum and it was amazing to see historical figures, animals and some monuments! the staff was amazing, friendly and kind. Not to mention the rest-rooms, they were clean and tidy

We went for the Halloween Night at the Museum event. It was absolutely brilliant! Secure parking, safe walkways and so much fun. There was a fright area upstairs, with actors. It was so well done and the actors were fantastic! I definitely screamed a few times. We had a 6 year old with us and it wasn’t too scary for her. There was food and drinks available and the museum staff were all very helpful. The snake show was also great and very entertaining, with the chance to hold some snakes afterwards. The actual museum is awesome and very well maintained! I will be back just for another look around as there was so much on display!

Growing up in Pietermaritzburg, we had many school outings to the museum, and I was always fond of it as a child. I wanted to show my own children the museum now, but I did not have much expectation as a lot of PMB has degraded since my youth and I thought I was going to be disappointed but was pleasantly surprised. It has actually improved with more diverse sections representing South Africa's natural and cultural history. The exhibits are clean and nicely displayed within their environment, and information is easy to read. There is just so much to get through that I would advise you to schedule a lot of time here, or if you local make a few visits and take it in sections so you can really take in all the info. My kids loved the insects with their interactive displays, and my favorite section is still Victorian PMB, but there are so many new sections to explore and learn about, very informative. The entrance fee is also very affordable.

Last time I was here I was with my niece and my sister - and I did go again and I enjoyed it so much - the staff were cool and very friendly... I love that when you enter a room the sound effects starts to play at first it was scary but I love it. Also there were kids when I was there - it's great to see children come to the museum and learn. I will add Photos of my favorite highlights.

Crocworld is a conservation center with lush surroundings and various animal attractions. It's home to hundreds of breeding Nile crocodiles, along with snakes, tortoises, waterbirds, flamingos, caracals, jackals, meerkats, and diverse bird species in an aviary. Visitors can enjoy crocodile feeding sessions and snake demonstrations. The facility offers a picturesque ocean view and features well-maintained habitats for reptiles and other animals.
A Fantastic Experience at Crocworld! My wife and I had a wonderful time visiting Crocworld. The park is beautifully maintained and offers a great variety of experiences. We were amazed by the number and variety of crocodiles — from different species to some truly massive ones, including Henry, who they told us is the oldest crocodile in captivity at 125 years old! We also loved the little animal farm section, where we got to pet and interact with some adorable animals. The park is also home to birds that have been injured and are now being carefully looked after — it was heartwarming to see the care and attention given to them. The staff and guides were excellent — knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate. We had the chance to watch a crocodile feeding, hold a baby croc, and even attend a short snake demonstration, which was fascinating. Only improvements would be to update a lot of the signs on the animal enclosures and to fix the viewing deck. The on-site restaurant was lovely, and the whole place felt peaceful, clean, and well-organized. It’s a perfect outing for couples, families, or anyone who loves wildlife and nature. We left feeling inspired, informed, and grateful for the experience. Highly recommended!

Fabulous staff fabulous reception, incredibly clean . Sweeeetest goats was the highlight for me. And the snake man wish i caught his name but such a welcoming sweet carer allowing our small children to hold a boa and learn to be gentle with such majestic little critters.

We had a great tour by a guide who latched onto us between school tours that were coming through. It was awesome having a knowledgeable member of the team walknwithbus and give us interesting info. The facility it Raju good. The restaurant has one of the best views you'll ever see. The service was result good and the prices were reasonable.

A great afternoon out! Very informative and we got to hold the baby crocs!! Lovely little restaurant inside with a deck overlooking the ocean. Perfect for a quick stop along the route.

I wouldn't say it's a must see in the area but nice place to go for a few hours if you have a day off. The restaurant was pretty good and had a nice view, and the crocs and birds that live there were impressive. The price was also quite reasonable.

It was a nice experience, the place is a bit shabby but there were plenty of crocs to see, there is a 750kg, 125 year old croc that is just massive and really cool to see. We also held a baby croc and petted baby goats. All in all a good experience.
Charine B — Google review
A wonderful place for both adults and kids. At a set time one can hold a large snake which was imported from Asia. After viewing the crocodile feeding there is an opportunity to hold a harmless baby crocodile. They have the world's oldest crocodile in captivity who is 125 years old. Henry is gigantic and pictures don't do justice.
