Great team. Amazing artwork. Whenever I'm in Jinja I make it a point to visit this place since 2018. Could have given 5 stars but the environment on my last visit wasn't looking as good but still. Cuupa arts gallery is a great place for people touring Jinja.

SOURCE OF THE RIVER NILE ( Nile Fount Excursion Adventures

Mentioned on
1 list
Visit the Mahatma Gandhi Monument to photograph and pay respects to the influential figure who spread peace in Africa. This tribute symbolizes his works, as his ashes were scattered in the Nile River according to his request in 1948. The monument offers snake viewings, small wildlife encounters, boot rafting, and a chance to witness underground water emergence. However, fishing is prohibited at this location. Additionally, it once hosted the exclusive Nyegenyege cultural festival for Ugandans.
Well organized boat trip in a geographical significant location. You also have a close view of local wildlife, mostly monkeys and birds. You do need to shop around and negotiate prices, as is common in Africa
Martin C — Google review
At the moment, you are paying a 30,000 shilling entrance fee to access what is mostly a construction zone. It’s far nicer to sit at other restaurants along the river, or hire a boat outside the park if that’s what you’re interested in. I would personally be more interested to purchase food and drinks down there if there was open access along the water.
Timothy M — Google review
Source of the Biggest and longest river in the world. One the greatest place that must be seen. I enjoyed the whole tour and didn’t want it to be finished. You pay entrance fees. We took long tour with a boat. You can negotiate for the price.
Mazen E — Google review
This place is a very nice peaceful and full of nature's beauty.
Dilbar H — Google review
It was a very good experience on the boat, good sceneries, the guide explained everything clearly, so it was generally a good experience. Come ready for the tsetse flies, may be with insect repellent or something that could help.
GLI U — Google review
Whole experience was fantastic, lots of arts and crafts to buy. Ambience great, please try out the local fried tilapia if you are willing to get your hands dirty. Lots to drink as well. I enjoyed the boat ride immensely however please be wary of price charges as what we agreed on wasn't what we paid. Tour guides are available for a fee however do clarify prices and know what you are paying for.
Anna W — Google review
A thrilling experience for sure: visiting and having a ferry ride the largest lake (Lake Victoria) and the source of the longest river (River Nile) in Africa is very exciting.
Okeniyi J — Google review
An exhilarating experience being at the source of the Nile River.. Great fish, drinks and chips experience by the waterside. There's loud dance music and lots of picture perfect spots to capture. Lovely, absolutely lovely!

Victoria Nile River

Mentioned on
1 list
River
Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
The visible movement of water represents the origin of the River Nile, specifically referring to the Victoria Nile River. This mighty river originates from Lake Victoria and exhibits a continuous flow. Its importance lies in being one of the main tributaries contributing to the overall volume and force of water that eventually forms the renowned Nile River. By emphasizing its source as Lake Victoria, we acknowledge that this particular section of the Nile carries historical significance due to its connection with early civilizations and exploration expeditions throughout time.
Witness the mighty forces if nature on one side and the calmness of the same nature in a single view. Where the river Nile starts its 4,000 mile journey to the Mediterranean sea, the portion of lake Victoria is calm and collected and peaceful. Then a few centimetres from there is the mighty break of some waters that hate to stay in the lake but are happy to enjoy travel. I guess water is also happy in motion rather than stagnant. In a boat you don't see any difference in landscape or witness any forces at play, except the waters begin to form a strong current that gives it the momentum to flag it off on the long journey that will take weeks, even months to enter the sea. Not all the water will reach the sea though! Some will be drank by animals; some will be drawn off for domestic and other uses; some will wet the earth along the way; etc. The story of the molecules that reach the sea is best told by the water itself. What remains for the visitor is something simple but spectacular - water particles cooperating to create a river more than 400 metres across and then flowing forward with force, over rocks, past small islands that have existed for longer than the river has been! I cannot but look at nature with love and awe at the same time. The boat I am in struggled to get to the source because if the force if the water. The same force now helps the boat on it's way back, but don't let the current sweep you away from your destination. So is life: you climb and the target seems unreachable; once there the climb down is easy; but don't play because you can fall badly climbing down.

Speke Memorial Monument, source of the Nile

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Speke Memorial Monument, source of the Nile, is a significant historical landmark in Jinja, Uganda. It commemorates the British explorer John Hanning Speke's discovery of the Nile's source in 1858. The bronze statue of Speke on a granite pedestal offers views of the River Nile and is surrounded by gardens on its western banks. Visitors can enjoy a calm ambiance and beautiful scenery while taking in the view across to the Mahatma Gandhi Monument.
It was very educative and adventurous. I enjoyed reading the history of the great man John Hannington Speke along with other European explorers into Africa - particularly Uganda.
Rhoda K — Google review
The history is significant but I didn't think the monument itself offers much. However, I highly recommend services of the nearby Living Waters hotel. Excellent staff, great view of the intersection of R. Nile, source of the Nile and Lake Victoria. Plus, the spiced tea from the restaurant (10k) was amazing. Their accommodation options are varied and designed well
Wilkister L — Google review
The place was awesome more than I expected
Mugalu O — Google review
We wanted to visit the Speke Monument, but then there is Living Waters Resort before that. They want a 10,000 UGX / per person fee. Ridiculous, it is as if the monument is owned by the resort. We wanted to skip the monument but were made to pay fee by the rude management just because we had crossed the entry gate of the resort and took a couple of pictures of the River Nile. Tourism board needs to evaluate it 👎
Kamran ( — Google review
The park is great, but this little memorial was not well maintained. And I would say it's not the most culturally sensitive as it portrays the white guy who discovered something in Africa.
Jeff T — Google review
One of those been there done that moment, not very spectacular or impressive but leaving jinja without visiting it would be to miss out on something

Itanda Falls

Scenic spot
Nature & Parks
Waterfalls
The Itanda Falls, also known as the White Nike, offers an impressive display of falls and rapids. Visitors can embark on a comprehensive tour which includes a boat ride, allowing them to explore small islands and witness more of the stunning waterfalls and rapids. The friendly and knowledgeable hosts enhance the experience. However, it is important to note that entry fees may vary for foreigners or 'muzungus', necessitating negotiation with local hosts.
Amazing, breathtaking scenery and incredible water falls
Godwin M — Google review
A Raw, Untamed Beauty Itanda Falls is a hidden gem, a testament to nature's raw power. The thundering cascades and the lush greenery surrounding them create an awe-inspiring spectacle. It's a place where you can truly connect with nature, feeling the mist on your face and the vibrations of the rushing water. The falls are well-organized, with clear pathways and viewing points. However, there seems to be an issue with uncontrolled toll collection by gatekeepers, which can be frustrating. It's a minor blemish on an otherwise perfect experience. If you're seeking an adventure and a chance to witness nature's grandeur, Itanda Falls is a must-visit. Just be prepared for a bit of chaos at the entrance.
Irfan K — Google review
I visited a place I would love to visit again and again
Yusufu B — Google review
It was such a great experience having gone there. Good views especially the speedy falls from the Nile. We were lucky that the day we went there we happened to find a group doing rafting making it a great feeling for us watching them. They have some good art crafts like the animals such a giraffes, rhinos , elephants, zebras we bought around there at relatively good price😊. I would advise you carry something to eat for yourself coz we were told the place is still under construction after selling it to someone else so for now any sorts of food provisions like fish are out of bounds. Also another thing I would recommend you visit on a sunny day the road leading to the falls is so messy on rainny days
Nanfuma B — Google review
Wonderful, the power of water is incredible. More than 3000 m3 per second. You can do activities like rafting. The best place in my opinion.
DZ A — Google review
i am no swimmer but this place gave me the best water experience i have ever had. definitely going back! i did a boat ride and explored one of the islands. i also had a chance to swim on the waterfalls and my guide was kind enough to help me swim on the Nile. downside is accessing the place. it is a very dusty ride all the way from Jinja to Itanda so cover up😄. But all the dust trouble is totally worth it💯
Adhiambo A — Google review
Naturally beautiful place located along River Nile the world's longest river in Jinja district, Uganda with a wonderful scenery. Turbulent waterfalls creating a naturally mesmeric sound. A view of some beautiful huge rocks within the River. Neighbored by rocks & pine trees. The atmosphere is really natural

Baha'i House of Worship

Mentioned on

Bahá'í house of worship
Sights & Landmarks
The Baha'i House of Worship in Kampala is not just a place of worship, but also offers guided tours to provide an understanding of the Bahai faith. It's a peaceful and culturally enriching attraction with beautiful gardens and a well-built temple on a hill. Visitors can enjoy the serene atmosphere, lush landscapes, and Sunday prayers that integrate different religions.
Baha’i House of Worship in Kampala, Uganda: Bahai temple is located about 4 miles from the main city center of Kampala, on Kikaya hill along Gayaza road. It is famously known for being a spiritual home for the Bahai Faith in Uganda. The three core assertions of the Bahai Faith, sometimes termed the "three onenesses" are central in the teachings of the religion. They are the Oneness of God, Oneness of Religion and the Oneness of Humanity, which sounds true. The temple is up on top of a hill, and a road leads up to it. It is a place of tranquility where you can sit on benches outside, or under a tree to relax. Everyone is welcome there, no matter your religion is. Inside also have benches for people to pray and relax. It houses a max of 800 people. They do have services in Sundays. Pictures are not allowed inside. A guide is usually assigned to you to explain the Bahai Religion and general questions about the temple and its history.
Doug H — Google review
Baha’i House of worship a very nice place to be at, its a very quiet silent place which enables everyone in the area to focus on themselves. The place is also good for prayers, meditation, readin’ novels among others

Wow..The house on a hill.the serene gardens, the very interestingly built temple..9 doors, nine pillars, and no taking pics while inside.. I ate some Rosemary plants, plucked some flowers and enjoyed the fresh air.. I went on a Monday.. Office is closed. But I got a nice lady to guide me around . I loved the place..
Lindah W — Google review
Beautiful house worship, on top of a hill, with a magnificent garden. A place of quiet and peace worth a detour, even if you are not of Baha'i faith. Which you probably aren't.
Martin C — Google review
Very beautiful and serene area. The garden surrounding the temple is very well maintained and there are some stunning views of Kampala. Unfortunately the inside of the building was being renovated when I visited.

Fully equipped with all the facilities like washrooms and a fabulous well maintained garden in front of the temple. We met there groups of people hosting picnics and birthdays. Came here for my first art exhibition. Fairly easy to find with a boda boda. I really enjoyed Richard’s Atugonza’s art pieces. The entrance was unattended so can’t say much about purchasing tickets in advance. PS: the background noise was part of the exhibition.

Sandra (Jeiskings Tours) assisted me in purchasing gorilla tracking permits for our group of 3 tracking in August 2024. She provided alternative payment options (bank transfer or credit card link), and was very clear and transparent in her communication. I mistakenly wired the wrong amount and she promptly sent back the amount that was in excess. Consider choosing Sandra’s company for your travels in Uganda to support a local agency and one run by a young and kind woman. Her company is a licensed tour company, duly registered on the Uganda Tourism Board website. Thank you very much Sandra, all the best and until we meet again.

To say this tour was great, is an understatement. It was perfect. I'd been travelling from South Africa up to Kenya with a different tour, to the end my trip with Jeisking Tours in Uganda and it couldn't have been a better end to the trip. Sandra, was highly organised, professional, friendly and helpful throughout the entire booking process and right up to the end of the tour. The small details matter and she nailed them all. My guide, was one of the nicest guys I've met. Extremely professional, insightful, knowledgeable, happy, fun and friendly are words I'd use to describe him. The gorilla's were one of the highlights of my life to date. The Chimpanzees were also incredible but being a matter of meters away from gorilla's, that takes some topping. The accommodation was incredible. I paid for budget accommodation and honestly it was incredible every night. Comfortable and stunning locations at each one. The food was also amazing. Uganda, one of the most beautiful countries I've ever been lucky enough to travel too. It is so underrated and everyone should be travelling there. The locals were super friendly and so happy to see foreigners in there home. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Cannot recommend this tour enough. I got recommended by a friend, I'll be recommending to every person I know. Thankyou so much Jeisking Tours, Sandra and the team. I'll be back soon!

I stayed 10 days in Uganda with Jeisking Tours. Ten days that allowed me to realize the beauty of this country — not only because of its exceptional nature, but also thanks to the kindness and warmth of its people. The tour organized by Sandra and her team makes it possible to truly discover this beautiful country. Many activities are scheduled almost every day, and the entire tour is well-managed from start to finish. Gerald, my driver, made it possible for me to explore the country and made me feel safe throughout the whole trip. I highly recommend choosing this very professional company. I fell in love with this country thanks to them!

Excellent! I went with jeiski tours on the safari to queen Elisabeth park and gorilla trekking in Bwindi, Uganda! They exceeded our expectations and went above and beyond to make sure we got the best experience. Our guide Tony navigated us through what we thought were impossible roads to cross, always with a smile on his face. Sandra at the Kampala office helped us with the booking and made sure this was a once in a life time experience. Thank you!

The Uganda Museum, established in 1908, is a significant cultural institution in East Africa. Situated on Kitante Hill in Kampala, it offers a captivating journey through Uganda's past. The museum features sections dedicated to various aspects of heritage, including traditional musical instruments and tribal huts showcasing the regalia of different Ugandan tribes such as Baganda, Batooro, Basonga, Bahima, and Bakiga.
East Africa's oldest museum - founded in 1908 and a great place to have a look and feel of the culture and heritage of Ugandans. I loved walking around and taking my time given I was alone and I found it quite interesting....there's so much in this museum. I would definitely recommend.

From old presidents cars, different rocks to cultural regalia and attire, this place is history galore. You will find the old guns, boats, independence day recordings and speeches, and has gardens to seat with friends and have a chat. I think entrance was 5000ugx. Good destination for tourists. Oh, and Eddy Kenzo's BET music award is here along with his other awards.

I’m frankly disappointed. Was expecting a lot more from a national museum. There is a lot of info that’s basically just textbook knowledge on how oil and gas are produced, how plants pollinate, and random Olympics posters which all have questionable relevance to Uganda.
J Y — Google review
Had a great time at the museum during the East Africa Scouts Zonal Educational Camp tour 2023, no waiting. I experienced the rich Ugandan culture, had a chance to witness the Ugandan stone age, photo gallery and had a chance to see some machines used by His Excellency the President of Uganda. Visit Uganda Museum.

I expected more from the Capital city of Uganda and the greatest historical museum in Western Africa… Few outdated, dusty exhibits, which similar ones you can find in every geological museum in Europe… I’m disappointed… The ticket for white tourists cost *3 more, then for locals… I was with my local friend: she paid 5000 Ugandan shillings, but I paid 15000…

This place needs a lot of investment! Uganda history must be very rich but unfortunately it was not presented quite well.. Some of the rooms were not well lit, information was cramped on multiple A4 pages which was to small to read. However, I really like the uganda primates/big apes part which had an audio visual room and good combination of pictures, apes skeleton, and up to date research findings. Bravo for that section!

There are quite a number of activities and games available for both kids and adults. However, most of the toys need proper revamping and an aesthetic touch. They are visibly old. The positive bit is that it is very affordable.

Its basically for kids with different rides and fun items, lots of rides and children will enjoy it. The staff is limited so you have to care about your kids wearing the belts while rides. I have heard that the owner got all rides in form of aid for African kids by a foreign amusement park for free, but here this man is making money out of it. Anyways rumors have no legs.

Really neat park. Neater fact about it is that it's in a university, so this makes a really good hangout place for the students there. Although it is only active andnopen on weekends. The park olis quite nice. My experience there was okay. Love that there'd plenty treats to get youself if youre loke a crazed sweth tooth like me. The water slide is anither cool thing abiut the park. Id say it'd make a very nice fun date or hangout location. It also makes a really good location for organizing a small concert or event or party. which is why i was actually here to begin with. Realy cool plac

This place is boring and hell there is no food court and the rides are longer like they used to be. If you go with kids you die of hunger the only food court there serves terrible food. The rides have long lines and most of them don’t work. The. The quad bikes they are only 3 and you pay for them after that find when only one is working yet you have already paid. All in all wonderland is joke
Nakirya K — Google review
The best and perhaps only big water slide park in Uganda. Though it’s getting old, trust me it’s still worth giving a try. Old is gold and I guess you wouldn’t want to miss out Wonder World’s amusement rides.

Now if you have a tiresome week either from work place .wonder world Amusement park gets you solved . It's a place that caters a family entity without leaving no one behind interms of enjoyment. It has bouncing Cassels for kids and all kinds of playing games for children and adults. Good restaurants to serve the guests and we'll positioned on the road hence accessibility on point

Casino Simba, located in Garden City, Kampala, is a popular gambling destination offering a wide variety of slot machines and table games. The casino features standard table games such as roulette, blackjack, pontoon, and various types of poker. It is the largest casino in the country with 22 gaming tables and around 100 gaming machines. On weekends, it becomes extremely popular with visitors having the chance to win cash prizes through lucky draws.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve visited several casinos both online and offline, but Casino Simba truly stands out! From the moment you log in, the experience is seamless and exciting. The design is vibrant and user-friendly, and everything loads quickly — no glitches, no delays. What really impressed me is the wide variety of games available. Whether you're into slots, roulette, blackjack, or live dealer games, there’s something for everyone. I especially love the EGT and YGT games – the graphics are stunning and the gameplay is super smooth. Another big plus is the customer service. I had a minor question about a withdrawal, and the support team responded instantly via live chat. They were polite, professional, and genuinely helpful. What keeps me coming back is the fairness of the platform and how often you actually win. It doesn’t feel rigged or overly difficult like some other casinos. Also, the promotions are always on point — from free spins to cashback offers, there's always something exciting going on. Overall, Casino Simba has become my go-to casino. Highly recommended for anyone looking for fun, excitement, and a trustworthy gaming experience. Keep up the great work!

The Independence Monument in Uganda is a significant symbol of the country's heritage and history. Situated along Speke Road in Kampala, it commemorates the granting of independence to Uganda by British colonial administrators on October 9, 1962. The monument depicts a man unwrapping and raising a child to the sky, symbolizing the birth of a new nation freed from colonization.
A beautiful monument in the city centre. Kampala is full of charm. May it be preserved and kept safe.

The birth of a nation - this is what this monument signifies. The older woman symbolizes the older Uganda and the bondage around the legs upto the chest is the colonial rule that Uganda was subjected to and then the way the woman is holding up the male child seen to be emerging from the bondage, symbolizes the birth of a nation out of colonialism which is the Uganda of Now represented by the child. The young Uganda (the child) is seen to be celebrating the freedom gained from colonial rule which was in 9th October 1962. A must-visit site when in Kampala. On this 57th anniversary of the country. Its the vest time to visit the independence monument and remember the freedom we achieved. Uganda has gone through many challenges including wars & diseases but this has not crushed our spirit as a country. It's very important to recognize such landmarks which remind us of our history. Its the hope of the nation to look back on such monuments as those that stand.

Nestled atop Kampala Hill in Old Kampala, the Uganda National Mosque, also known as the Gaddafi National Mosque, stands as a magnificent testament to Islamic architecture and culture. This grand mosque is not only the largest in East Africa but also serves as a significant landmark that reflects historical ties between Libya and Uganda. Originally commissioned by former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, it was built to benefit the local Muslim community and can accommodate thousands of worshippers at once.
My long awaited dream came true after visiting this wonderful mosque... It has a wonderful view from outside, very soothing inside. It brought me peace once I got inside. It has got a long minar, that added the Mosque's beauty. Both men and women can pray separately. Car parking and a place for oju are available in the mosque... The mosque is Carpeted inside.

While on Kampala City Tour, Visiting Gaddafi Mosque is a “Must do “Activity ! The Mosque is rich in history as it was first built by President Iddi Amin who unfortunately was exiled before its completion until the former President of Libya took responsibility of reconstructing it. It is made of beautiful architectural designs of African, Arabic and European decent! While at the Mosque tower, you are able to view the seven hills that made Kampala of today! I would highly recommend visiting the Mosque during your Kampala city tour!

This is the biggest moshjid of Uganda which can cater 20 thousands muslim for prayer. It has beautiful interior. You can climb up the Minar to the top and see the entire city. You can also climb up to the middle of the Minar and still see the city. Once you buy tickets, they will give you a local guide who will explain the history this beautiful moshjid. Tip him/her. Will not take much time to cover this attraction. Tips: women have to be in covered clothings. however, you can get free scarfs to cover urself.

Uganda National Mosque, Kampala – formerly the Gaddafi National Mosque, because apparently, when you want the biggest mosque in Uganda, you ask Libya for a favor. Sitting atop Kisenyi Hill, it’s the second tallest structure in Kampala, staring down the city like a gleaming concrete judge. Funded by Libya and completed in 2006, its turquoise dome and towering minaret scream ambition… and maybe mild obsession. Step inside, and the cavernous prayer hall swallows you whole, echoing like it’s rehearsing for the apocalypse. Visitors are welcome, but climb the minaret at your own risk: the view of Kampala is breathtaking, mildly disorienting, and subtly judgmental. From up here, the city bustle seems trivial, reminding you that devotion, power, and concrete stacking are all serious business, especially when international funding gets involved.

Stunning mosque with peaceful atmosphere! Gaddafi National Mosque is beautiful and very well-maintained. Kabaka's Palace

Kabaka's Palace, also known as Lubiri Palace, is a must-visit historical and cultural attraction in Kampala. It served as the residence of the Kabakas, traditional rulers of the Buganda kingdom since the 19th century. The palace features captivating architecture that reflects the colonial era and offers guided tours showcasing historical artifacts, beautiful gardens, and even torture chambers with insightful storytelling about its rich history and culture.
We had a great day learning about Uganda' Kingdoms and their history. Our tour guide was amazing at clearly explaining the Ugandan culture, history, and traditions within the Kingdoms. We enjoyed our visit and exploring the palace grounds! We also bought some of the amazing artwork created on the traditional bark tree material! You sign in at the gate and pay at the tour office, where a tour guide then takes you around the palace and explains the palace' history along with the history of the Kingdom and Uganda' customs / culture. 😀

Visiting the Kabaka’s Palace was a great experience, made even better by Jessica, our guide, she’s super knowledgeable, friendly, and full of fascinating stories that bring the history to life. The tour is well worth it. I picked up a beautiful fake fig tree artwork at the end. a little on the pricey side, but it feels good knowing you’re supporting talented local artists and the hardworking palace staff. A meaningful visit all around!

The building is beautiful and well kept. Our tour guide was very friendly and offered us some interesting insight into Bugandan history and customs. The whole visit takes you 15 to 30 minutes realistically. Right next to the palace are some residential buildings for the royal guard and their families which are in a very poor state and are in big contrast to the rest of the site. You cannot visit without a guide. Foreign Ugandan residents are charged 20.000 shillings. Non-resident foreigners must pay 37.000 UGX, regardless of where you come from. A Nigerian will be charged the same as an American. I found the price quite high for what you get, on the positive note the fund support the upkeep of the place. Payments are card only. No cash payment is accepted. Maybe some clearer indications to visitors would be helpful. We felt quite awkward during the check-in process. They also have a brand new price list behind the cashier's desk and nowhere is the 37.000 UGX fee listed. You basically take them by their word.
Hunor P — Google review
The history is just amazing, Amin's torture chamber is overrated I think, there is no evidence of the torture allegations. Otherwise Buganda kingdom has a magnificent history and planning.
Bruno K — Google review
The Uganda Palace, also known as Lubiri Mengo, is one of the most historically and politically significant sites in Kampala. It serves as the official residence of the Kabaka, the King of Buganda — Uganda’s largest and most influential traditional kingdom. Though its serene grounds and royal architecture might seem inviting from the outside, visiting the palace is not your typical sightseeing experience. It’s a journey through deep layers of Uganda’s history — from royal heritage to colonial influence, and eventually, to the tragic chapters of dictatorship. When visiting, one of the first things most people learn is that the palace itself is not open to the public. The building remains an active royal residence, and only the Kabaka and select members of the Buganda royal family are permitted inside. Visitors can, however, access the palace grounds, guided by local tour guides who share stories about the Buganda Kingdom and its centuries-old traditions. From the palace gates, your visit often begins along the Royal Mile, a historic road stretching between the palace and the Bulange (Buganda Parliament). This long, tree-lined avenue was designed to symbolize the connection between the Kabaka (monarchy) and his government. Each of the trees along the avenue represents a different clan of Buganda, emphasizing the kingdom’s unity and its clan-based structure — a core part of Buganda’s identity. While it’s possible to walk part of the Royal Mile, full access is limited to guided tours and official visits. The palace grounds themselves are filled with symbolic spaces — remnants of the past mixed with more recent additions. But perhaps the most powerful and haunting site is the torture chamber, located in a small bunker-like structure beneath the hill. This area was originally constructed as an armory by Kabaka Mutesa II during his reign. However, in the 1970s, under Idi Amin’s dictatorship, it was transformed into a place of unimaginable horror. The torture chambers were used by Amin’s soldiers and secret police to imprison, torture, and kill political detainees. Visitors can still walk through the dark tunnels and cells, guided by explanations from the local caretakers. The rooms are narrow and damp, with thick concrete walls that once confined hundreds of prisoners at a time. The guides often point out the remains of electric cables and dark stains on the walls — grim evidence of what took place here. According to some accounts, water was flooded into the chambers and electrified, creating one of the most inhumane execution methods used during that period. Standing inside those chambers is a sobering experience. It’s quiet — almost too quiet — and yet, you can almost feel the echoes of the suffering that once occurred there. The site has since been preserved as a memorial to the victims of Amin’s regime, serving as a reminder of Uganda’s turbulent political history and the resilience of its people. What makes this visit so meaningful is the contrast between the palace’s symbolic role as a place of kingship and pride, and the dark history that unfolded beneath it. The experience offers not just a look into the Buganda monarchy, but also a deeper understanding of Uganda’s journey through colonization, independence, and dictatorship. Overall, visiting the Uganda Palace is both educational and emotional. While you won’t be allowed to step inside the royal residence, the guided tour of the grounds, the Royal Mile, and the torture chambers provides a powerful insight into Uganda’s past. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in history, politics, and human resilience — a place that reminds you how the beauty and pain of a nation often coexist within the same walls.

Kasubi Tombs, situated on Kasubi Hill just five kilometers from Kampala city center, is the final resting place of four Kabakas and other members of the Baganda royal family. The site is easily accessible, only a 15-minute drive from the heart of Kampala along the Kampala-Hoima Road.
The Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offer a profound glimpse into the cultural and spiritual heart of the Buganda Kingdom. The architecture is a remarkable example of traditional building techniques, utilizing natural materials to create a unique and awe-inspiring structure. The intricate craftsmanship and the historical significance of the site make it a must-visit location for anyone interested in Ugandan heritage. The tombs house the remains of four Kabakas (kings) of Buganda, underscoring their enduring legacy. The visit provides a solemn opportunity to reflect on the rich history and traditions that have shaped the region. Preserving such sites is vital for future generations to understand and appreciate their cultural roots. It's a captivating destination, filled with stories and a tangible connection to the past. Therefore, a visit is a highly recommended experience. Steven Musoke

The Kasubi Tombs are a truly unique and essential place to visit in Uganda. While the entry fee for foreigners is high, it's a small price to pay for the opportunity to see a site unlike any other in the world. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its historical and cultural significance is immense. What makes the visit even more worthwhile is the incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Our guide was excellent, patient, and truly passionate about explaining the history and significance of the site. Their warmth and hospitality make the experience so much richer. Despite the cost, I highly recommend visiting the Kasubi Tombs. It's a humbling and educational experience that you won't find anywhere else.

The Kasubi Tombs in Kampala are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the burial place of the kings of Buganda. They hold a special place in Ganda culture, symbolizing spirituality, tradition, and continuity. The main structure, built mainly from wood, reeds, and thatch, is a striking example of traditional Ganda architecture. Unfortunately, a major fire in 2010 destroyed much of the site. Since then, UNESCO and the Buganda Kingdom have been working on restoring it while keeping its authenticity intact. That said, my visit felt a bit anticlimactic. The site has so much potential, but there isn’t much to see or do at the moment. Access is limited to a small area, and it would have been amazing to walk more freely around the grounds to really feel the history and age of the place.

Namirembe Cathedral, located on Namirembe hill in Kampala, Uganda, is a stunning religious structure that replaced the original grass-thatched cathedral built in 1903. As part of the Church of Uganda, it stands as a significant Anglican landmark with evangelical roots. The cathedral offers breathtaking views from its elevated position and is a prominent feature on postcards of Kampala.
Namirembe Cathedral, one of the oldest edifices in the country was built in 1890. It still maintains its majestic splendour and when you step into its hall, you are transported back in time. The stain glass windows with the beautiful Anglican icons lend a serenity to the Cathedral that leaves one with a deep sense of calm and tranquility.

This is the oldest cathedral in Uganda and was built in 1890 on the Namirembe hill. We wanted to get into the church but we were denied entry and we guessed it was because of how we looked on the outside....the person I was with was so vexed but I was all cool and didn't mind because I was tired😂. I however felt very disappointed. Ultimately, we felt harshly judged and given we're supposed to love as Christians, it was rather ironical. "Come as you are, not as you want but how we want".😭 The architecture is absolutely beautiful and the views from this hill are also to die for! You'll definitely get nice photos from this site. The entry fee is free. 🤙🏾

Just a disclaimer - I’m rating this from back when I was touring around Uganda, and I only had time to quickly stop while passing by the cathedral. Therefore, I have not been inside or attended a service - I’m rating based on my experience walking around outside it :) Churches aren’t usually somewhere I tour, but I was curious about this one given that it’s the oldest cathedral in Uganda. Although my time visiting is was short, I was able to walk around it and reflect. I gave thought to history and the role this landmark has played. On the outside, it really is a nice building, but I was personally more interested in the many beautiful flowers that could be seen there, as well as the great views of Kampala from the hill it rests on. I wish I’d gotten more/better photos of that but the rain was on and off. Looking back, I think the main things that have led me to remove a star are that it was difficult to find on a boda when unfamiliar with the area, and while I walked around there wasn’t any information to tell me what exactly I was looking at (I used google though!)

It was constructed by French missionaries and consecrated in 1925 on land that was formerly the palace of Kabaka Mutesa.

St. Mary's Cathedral Lubaga in Kampala was built between 1914 and 1924, with Bishop Henry Halon launching an appeal for funds in 1901 and Bro. Gilbert designing its Roman-style architecture. The site was originally gifted to the White Fathers for establishing the Catholic Church by King Mwanga II in 1889. The cathedral, a significant religious landmark, was consecrated in 1925 and has served as a spiritual center and witness to Uganda's growth for over a century.

Attended funeral service. Room for improvement. Parking space versus capacity ot Cathedral just outbif sink it's crazy. People resort to Parking unsafely all the way downhill. Sound system poor. Sat in the middle of the Cathedral but could barely follow the service. Echo, Sound distortion low volume. Carpets in middle aisle weren't secured so are a trip hazard. Imagine mourners entering church then tripping? The flat screens way too small for t he people beyond id say 30 percent of distance from the front of the church. Sitting halfway up could barely see 👀 anything. These should be quick fixes but don't know about easy.

I can say that Kampala, the capital city of Uganda is also the capital of religion in East Africa coz basing on the number of cathedrals and other notable places of worship like the Namugongo Shrine, Rubaga Cathedral, Namirembe Cathedral, Baha'i Temple and so many others it is in deed also a religion capital of the East African region. When in Kampala, create some time to visit the St Mary's Cathedral at Rubaga Hill. It is a very beautiful house of worship. I understand that at least 3 pope's have visited this church. It has so much history that you shouldn't miss. Entry to the Rubaga cathedral is FREE. You don't have to pay anything. If lucky you can also be able to see inside the church. Taking of photos is also allowed. Take as many as you can. If you have much time you can also come on Sunday for a service. Ngamba Chimpanzee sanctuary, situated on a lush island in Lake Victoria, offers a haven for numerous rescued chimpanzees. This idyllic forested retreat is an ideal destination for all nature enthusiasts, particularly those with a fondness for these intelligent primates. The sanctuary stands out due to its unique feature of naming each chimpanzee under its care. Visitors can partake in various engaging activities during their stay, including chimp feeding and fishing excursions.
One of the place that everyone must visit if you are in Entebbe. From the reception until the end it was fabulous. The guide was knowledgeable and amazing. The Ngamba chimpanzee sanctuary is well preserved and managed.

Must visit place for animal lovers. Enjoy your cruise drive from the main island to Ngamba Island. Loved to see activities of our friends Chimps ❤️ Cordial staff. Would request to support activities financially to create better infrastructure and care for our friends 😊

Really cool experience to see and learn about the chimps! The boat ride to get over there and back was really nice as well. 🚤 Though, it is expensive for a “short” experience.
Sophia L — Google review
We booked thru local agent. Were told cost and only 2 people. Transfer to dock and now it is 4 people. On the dock boat will not start. Replacement boat takes 1.5 hours!! It is only a bow rider with small engine. One has to ride at the front with no sun cover for 30km each way off shore. I have spent a lot of time running boats off shore and scuba diving. I was REALLY uncomfortable with the loading and condition of the boat with a forecast of thunderstorms. YMMV

One of the best islands I have visited is Ngamba The Chimpanzee sanctuary I loved everything starting from the people I met The chimps where more like friendly and guess what I found two new born babies of which one is called Bolly 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 So beautiful

We had a debate about how the chimpanzees got to the island. Theories of rafts of reeds were dispelled when we were told, by our expert guide, that the chimps are all rescues...although...you can find out the rest as this is a must visit place.

The Reptile Village in Entebbe, located just 10km from the international airport, is a sanctuary established in 2003 to protect various reptile species. Visitors can witness over 20 different types of reptiles on display, including cobras, mambas, pythons, boomslangs, skinks, monitor lizards, Nile crocodiles and tortoises.
Enjoy your visit with the venomous and non-venomous snakes' viewing. Tortoise viewing and Cricodile viewing and feeding. More exciting with the Chameleons and also water bird watching. You may be lucky to meet with the mighty Shoebill. The place is generally quiet and cool for kids too.
Kelly L — Google review
I have visited this place and I had mixed feelings. You will find rescued reptiles here. You will find various venomous snakes(I liked Mozambique spitting cobra the most), chameleons, Crocs, tortoises, turtles, etc. Staff are very friendly here. I found there is a very low crowd. I forgot the amount they charged from me. But they haven't gave any ticket. They gave few discounts as well. The place is not so attractive. Living conditions of animals are not very good. As it is run by the local community so it might be ok. But it has a huge scope of improvement. Road conditions are also not good to go there. The number of animals is very less. Which might not fulfill your expectations. If you are really an animal lover and you have enough time, then you can go here. I enjoyed a little, but my tour mates had negative feelings.

This is a place where you will find rescued Reptiles from Ugandan communities. These include; various venomous Snakes, Chameleons, Crocs, Tortoise, turtles, etc. Julie is there to welcome you and take you around The money that you at the entrance help the organisation to buy food for the animals. Therefore, reserve time and visit Reptiles Village.

- Toilets are very dirty. - 20.000 ugx paid per person, i am not sure it worths - 15 minute visit not more - place is in very bad condition - young guide (14 yo) was very kind and informative - roads are very bad - flies everywhere, the place is in swamps - you don't miss anything if you don't go there

Unique experience, highly recommend this place! The guide is well educated on the animals and gives good explanations and demonstrates what the animals can do. This organization rescues and releases reptiles back into the wild. We got to see many types of snakes, crocodiles, tortoises and turtles, monitor lizards, and chameleons. Consider donating towards food for the animals so they can rescue and save more animals!
Elisa — Google review
It is a small sanctuary owned by the local community. They have different kinds of snakes rescued from various locations. They also had nile aligators and chamelions. The tour guide was a friendly lady and very informative. The ticket price was $8 for foreigners.
Fabiha H — Google review
If you have the chance you must go, incredible what they are doing with little resources. The guide gave us lots of information about how it is managed, the reason to do it, and of course, plenty of interesting stuff about the reptiles in there. You are not going to see tons of animals because is not intended for that, paying the entrance will make you understand how dedicated the people working in there are with Uganda's wildlife. Great job!
Alberto R — Google review
There are so many misconceptions about snakes, as a Ophidiophilic individual, visiting reptile village came in timely to help me convey the desired message to enhance its conservation. I highly recommend it for persons who would love to overcome their phobias for reptiles.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Victoria Mall, and I must say, it was a fantastic shopping experience! The mall is incredibly spacious, clean, and well-organized, making it effortless to navigate and explore. The modern and sleek atmosphere is enhanced by comfortable seating areas and reliable Wi-Fi throughout. The diverse selection of stores is impressive, featuring a great mix of local boutiques and international brands. I found everything I needed, from clothing and accessories to electronics and home goods. The friendly and helpful staff at the stores made the shopping experience even more enjoyable. The food court is another highlight, offering a wide range of restaurants and cafes serving local and international cuisine. I was impressed by the quality of the food and the reasonable prices. I was also impressed with the parking facilities, which were convenient, well-organized, and easily accessible. I've never had any issues finding a parking spot, even on busy weekends. The parking attendants were also helpful and courteous. Overall, I highly recommend Victoria Mall to anyone seeking a convenient and enjoyable shopping experience. Nestled within this expansive complex is Cafe Javas, a beloved restaurant known for its cozy ambiance and a diverse menu that spans from hearty breakfasts to delectable dinners. Nearby, KFC serves up its iconic fried chicken, drawing in crowds with the irresistible aroma of its secret recipe. A good place for shopping; quite organised with plenty of parking. A supermarket and several brand-name restaurants...and if you want it extra executive, a hotel is within vicinity. You got it all here.

A great spot for services, but look elsewhere for souvenirs! Victoria Mall is an excellent and modern mall in Uganda, offering a high standard of services and facilities. It's clean, well-maintained, and a reliable place to find what you need. The mall has a good variety of shops and places to eat, and the overall atmosphere is very pleasant. However, if you are looking for clothing or souvenirs, I would advise against buying them here. The prices for souvenirs, in particular, are extremely high. Pro-tip for souvenir shopping: Directly across the street from Victoria Mall is a souvenir market where you can find the exact same items for less than a quarter of the price. You'll get much better value there and support local vendors. Overall, I highly recommend Victoria Mall for its great amenities and services, but for souvenir shopping, save your money and cross the road!

The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre, also known as the Entebbe Zoo, is located in Entebbe Town near the international airport. Established in 1950, it serves as a sanctuary for injured and confiscated wildlife. Visitors can enjoy seeing a variety of animals such as lions, giraffes, elephants, and chimpanzees while learning about Uganda's conservation efforts. The center offers both leisure and educational tours with opportunities to participate in feeding the animals.
Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre in Entebbe is an incredible place for anyone who loves animals and nature. The staff are knowledgeable and caring, and the animals are well looked after. It’s a great place to learn about Uganda’s rich wildlife heritage while supporting conservation efforts. The environment is clean and peaceful, perfect for a family visit or a solo trip. The guided tours are informative, and you can get surprisingly close to the animals. I highly recommend it for both locals and tourists looking for a meaningful and enjoyable experience.

Excellent Service and Guides, but Needs More Wildlife & Value for Money I recently visited the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) and had a very mixed but overall positive experience. The absolute highlight was the service provided. The staff were fantastic, and the young woman who led our tour and explained the animals was incredibly knowledgeable and skillful. Her expertise and enthusiasm truly elevated the visit. However, when comparing the UWEC to similar centers in other countries, the quantity of animals is noticeably lower. While the quality of care seems high, I felt the collection was quite limited. A major plus for me was the incredible opportunity to see the White Rhinos. That sighting alone brought me a lot of joy! The entry fee is $15, and this is where I have a slight reservation. Given the limited number of animals, I question whether the overall experience provides enough value for that $15 charge. While the guiding service is excellent, the center itself needs to be better formalized and organized to fully justify the price and live up to its potential as a national conservation center. It's a wonderful place with great people, but a stronger institutional structure and a more diverse animal collection would make it an undeniable 5-star destination.
Amila M — Google review
Wow,, this place was fun spending an evening in there with animals. I personally enjoyed the following 1. Lions as they kept on roaring around the cages, people seem to move even closer 2. Cheaters they are aggressive even from their cages, 3. Elephants, I saw the two big ones and one small Elephant, friendly atmosphere in there 4. Rhino, was also rooming around though it looked ugly 5. Many other animals like giraffes, chimps, ostrich, zebras and buffalo among others. Visit the Uganda Wildlife Conservation centre today.

It looks like a huge forest — truly an unbelievable experience! The place is home to many different kinds of animals and offers a beautiful, peaceful spot to stay near Lake Victoria
Ryan M — Google review
The center emphasizes its role as a sanctuary for rescued animals and a place for education, which aligns with many visitor experiences. I commend them on the educational value, especially for children, with knowledgeable guides providing facts about the animals and conservation efforts. I must note the need for more maintenance around the grounds.
Tim B — Google review
Had so much fun and food. I had no idea there was even a beach and restaurants inside and I didn't need to first go to another place. All the animals I really hoped to see where there.
TK G — Google review
I love the fact that the first animals you see are elephants They have a wide range of packages from "keeper of the day" to "behind the scenes" to give you a memorable experience. There's a beach and even though swimming is not allowed, there a spots you can utilise to unwind while watching the waves
Joana M — Google review
A Lovely Place to Visit with Family This is a nice place to visit and see a variety of wild animals. The entrance fee would be fair if it included a tour guide. I also don’t think they should charge for three-year-olds. There are different kinds of wild animals such as lions, tigers, leopards, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, and wild cats. The chimpanzees were especially entertaining — Otim was a real highlight! We were surprised to see long-horned cows inside the zoo as well. There are also many birds, including the crown crane, crested crane, parrots, and peacocks. They have reptiles too, although I didn’t see them — I don’t really like reptiles! There’s even a kids' play area. Overall, we really enjoyed the zoo!

Budget Uganda Gorilla Booking; Great Adventure Safaris

Go with Great Adventures! I booked a 2 week custom itinerary with gorilla & chimpanzee trekking, and Murchison Falls game drive in Uganda, as well as time in the Maasai Mara of Kenya. All the accommodations they booked were comfortable, beautiful, and with great food and staff. Samuel, the planner, arranged everything and was helpful and communicative. Joseph was our guide in Uganda, and he was the best! He was knowledgeable about animals & culture, accommodating, and fun. There were a couple setbacks with our itinerary (some due to us, some due to vendors that Great Adventures worked with), but they did everything they could to put us at ease and pivot to a suitable alternative. I’m so glad I booked this unforgettable trip of a lifetime with this company! Go with them instead of a big US or EU-based tour company — you’ll be supporting local jobs in Uganda, and these guys are great. Thank you so much for making this an incredible experience!

Samuel and Joseph planned a once-in-a-lifetime experience for my wife and me. Our private 2-week tour covered mostly Uganda and a bit of Kenya. We were able to see so many amazing things. This included beautiful landscapes, the wonderful people of Africa, and of course, some amazing animals. All of the places we stayed at were nice and comfortable. The food was lovely and the hospitality was perfect. Everybody was so nice and made sure we were comfortable the entire time. Any sign of a small problem was fixed immediately by Joseph and Samuel. Joseph was an amazing guide to have with us for our time in Uganda. He really knows Uganda very well and comes from a family of tour guides. You will really get the best and most authentic experience possible with this group. The safaris and up-close experiences with the gorillas and chimps were really amazing and moving. Along our trip we also go to see Lions, Giraffes, Rhinos, Fowls, Hyenas, Buffalo, Crocodiles, Monkeys, Babboons, and so many birds. If you are thinking of going to Africa, just do it. It will change your life. Make sure you book with Great Adventures. By doing so, you will support the local people there.

We did a 7 night, 8 day gorilla and Safari tour. It was fantastic - we had such a great time. Ivan was quick to respond to all of our questions and Eric, our guide, was excellent. He’s a fantastic driver and incredibly knowledgable about Uganda and the surrounding wildlife. Eric also made sure we got to see everything we wanted to see - in our case a leopard. We couldn’t have asked for a better trip. Thank you to both Eric and Ivan.
Marissa W — Google review
A simply stunning experience from start to finish. What started as a spur of the moment idea to visit the mountain gorillas turned into an extraordinary and continually delightful tour in a truly beautiful country, guided by the most genuine, and inimitable tour guide - Richard Toko. Although seemingly more common than expected ( having bumped into many self-driving couples / friends ), we had reservations around arranging transport and managing the logistics ourselves, so we opted to book the visit through a tour company which turned out to be a wise decision. Following a brief google search it was clear a fleeting visit to see the Gorillas was not going to be enough as Uganda has so much to offer. We settled on a 10 day trip, regretfully omitting the northern sector featuring Murchison falls, but including the popular spots of Kibale, Queen Elizabeth Park, Bwindi impenetrable forest and Lake Bunyoni. We contacted several companies to obtain quotations for the trip and eventually got connected with Ivan from Gorillas & Wildlife Safaris. At the outset Ivan was friendly, clearly knowledgeable & experienced in providing Ugandan wide tours; offering off the shelf packages, but was also very accommodating, providing a fully customised trip giving logical reasons as to why our suggestions may or may not work. This was great for us as we wanted to work in a couple of days without travel during the trip, something that other agencies were reluctant to discuss giving the impression that inflating their sale price with activities was more of a priority. After several conversations with Ivan we settled on an agenda, and he was continually communicative. He was also flexible with the payment options, again, an area where other agencies were not as accommodating. Our trip consisted of 5 different lodges and ahead of time we were given the option to pick from budget, mid range or luxury accommodation. Apart from the higher end “Birdsnest Resort” in Lake Bunyoni we opted for budget accommodation which were anything but. All the lodges were excellently well kept, all in stunning locations, featuring comfy beds ( with mosquito nets where needed ), a well-stocked bar, very decent 3 course menus and always friendly staff. It was hard to find fault, all lodges having their own charms. Gorillas & Wildlife Safaris were exemplary in every aspect, the highlight being Richard Toko who was purely a joy to be around and who demonstrated incredible knowledge of Ugandan wildlife and conversation in general. It was truly a privilege to be shown this beautiful country by a seasoned and inspiring gentleman.

Our safari started with a hiccup but ended up being an amazing adventure. Our driver, Noah, was an excellent driver and guide. His knowledge of the country and the wildlife was second to none. From spending time in Kibale National Park with the chimps to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with the gorillas it was a trip of a lifetime. Along with the Chimps and gorillas, we had 3 other game drives giving us the opportunity to see the Big 5!! We also found the people of Uganda very friendly and welcoming, especially the kids. Gorillas and Wildlife Safaris is a top notch company and I highly recommend them. Thank you again Noah for the great job you did!!

With GORILLAS AND WILDLIFE SAFARIS we did an eight-day expedition in Uganda. We arranged the program in advance from the Czech Republic and already at that time Ivan recommended and helped us to arrange interesting places for photographers. When we found out at the airport that we were not issued visas in time and would not be allowed to board the plane, we called Ivan and he helped us to sort everything out and hurried the Ugandan officials and within a few tens of minutes we received our visas in the mail and could leave. They are one of the few companies that offer flights within Uganda so we had booked flights from Entebbe to Semliki and back from Kihihi to Entebbe with Aerolink. Waiting for us in Semliki was our guide Kassim, who accompanied us the whole time in his Toyota Land Cruiser, which, although of an older date of manufacture, looked the best among all the offroads. Kassim was very kind and helpful, stopping us himself at interesting places and places perfect for photographing wildlife and landscapes, and helpfully explaining local customs to people and animals. He even provided us with small snacks in the form of bunches of bananas during the crossings :-). The whole trip was well arranged, we did not encounter the slightest problem anywhere, and if something came up (e.g. the need to have a PCT test before departure to Rwanda (even for transit at the airport)), Kassim promptly solved everything over the phone or on the spot. We enjoyed the trip with him very much and we enjoyed everything perfectly. We will be happy to come back and use your services again.

Thanks to Ivan for organising our trip through Uganda - we had a great time! He was very responsive and accommodating, finally putting together a comprehensive program for us. We enjoyed spending our time with our guide Francis, who is professional, knowledgable and a good driver. The lodges chosen were great (apart of point 1 below), with the food being one of the highlights - all of it very delicious! Thanks also to Francis for showing us local food on the drives between National Parks. Our SUV “Black Hawk” was in great condition and clean. We did not encounter any issues with permits and reservations (unlike fellow travellers we met on the trip with other companies) and everything was handled to the highest service standards. We can recommend Gorillas and Wildlife Safaris - very professional and reliable! Two areas of improvement from our side: (1) While you are able to choose between different levels of accommodation with examples of lodges, this does not include information on which kind of room/tent you ultimately get (lodges offer different kinds of rooms/tents). We ended up with shared bathrooms in some of them, which we would have upgraded if known before for sure. We made Ivan aware of this already and he promised to provide more infos in the future. (2) Sometimes the game drives felt a bit rushed. This might have been partially caused by a tight schedule, but we still had plenty of time left on some days and would have appreciated to spend more time with the magnificent animals.

We had an absolutely amazing experience at Mabamba Swamp! The variety of bird species here is simply astounding — we spotted kingfishers, striking yellow weavers, white egrets, the marabou storks, regal cranes, blue herons, and even some geese (perhaps introduced but a pleasant surprise!). The boat rides were serene and offered close-up views of these beautiful creatures in their natural habitats. Island hopping was another highlight — the nearby islands are breathtaking and provided a perfect backdrop for an afternoon of exploration. The sunsets over the water were absolutely stunning, turning the sky into a canvas of warm red and yellow hues. We didn't use any guides, as we love to go solo, but we were told the guides are quite knowledgeable and friendly. Every moment feels like a new discovery, and it is truly a paradise for bird lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. Highly recommended!

Absolutely loved the boat tour to see the shoebill stork. Livingston, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable about all the birds we saw. As an avid bird lover, I particularly appreciated his identification skills and knowledge of the habitat and behaviors of the birds. He was very skilled and made the trip that much more memorable.

Livingstone and his group are amazing! Definitely do this tour and with this organisation!! We didn’t know what to expect but it’s a great half day program with lots of birds and great company. Livingstone even recommended dinner and organised for a friend to drop us home!

Had an amazing experience with our guides Livingstone and Eric. He was incredibly knowledgable about all the birds in the area as-well as the area as a whole. We had a nice boat ride over to the swamp from Entebbe (45mins) where we transfered to a smaller canoe to navigate the swamp. We were incredible lucky and got a very close encounter with a shoebill. I would highly recommend this as a must to in Entebbe or on the way transiting through the airport.

We enjoyed our tour into Mabamba Swamp and, with the cooperation of all the guides, successfully found a shoebill. Our guide, Livingston is very knowledgeable about the birds in the area which was valuable for us. He offers the best price for the tour I could find.

Amazing experience. In this swamp live 15/16 Shoebill Storks. The probability of sighting is 80% ! Short excursion, close to Entebbe and not to be missed

We went through Entebbe Airport Guesthouse and Paul to book this activity, which was a must on our five-week trip to Uganda. We easily found Paul in the Nakiwogo car park and he took us to the Mabamba landing stage where, after a bit of confusion, we took a small canoe with another boatman, who did not introduce himself, and a guide, Maria. Maria was very good and very committed to helping us find a shoebill. There aren't many shoebills in the swamp, so everyone ended up in front of the same shoebill. It was a magnificent large male, staring intently, waiting to catch a fish. We were able to observe it closely without disturbing it. Unfortunately, we ended up with many canoes in the same spot. The boats were racing through the swamp, the guides were talking loudly to each other, and their phones were ringing non-stop. Maria told us that there was no limit on the number of boats... Really not what you would expect from such an expensive birdwatching trip. On the way back, we tried to observe malachite kingfishers, but the boatman, in a hurry to get back, was not focused and really not good at anticipating and approaching them. Keep safe your shoebills and your swamp !

Specialty Museums
The Social Innovation Museum, located in Mpigi, Uganda, is an integral part of the Social Innovation Academy (SINA). It showcases a variety of innovative businesses initiated by young scholars and entrepreneurs to address the needs of underprivileged communities. Visitors can learn about local initiatives such as sustainable charcoal production, housing constructed from plastic bottles, and efforts against sexual harassment. The museum offers insights into the founding story of SINA and empowers young people to establish their own socially responsible companies.
A must-see. Here, young people are empowered to take their lives into their own hands in order to build up their own company. Condition: They must act on their own responsibility and give something back to society or the environment. You can learn a lot from the people here and they are all open to sharing their stories and ideas, including setbacks.

Great place to really get to know Uganda, Mpigi and the local people, off the beaten track. Good food, great beds and inspiring people. Thanks to the team. It was just great.

This is a great way to learn about the importance of local initiatives and communities, their amazing projects and the stories behind it (for example houses built out of plastic bottles, a sustainable charcoal production or an initiative against sexual harassment and many more social and sustainable businesses). The people at SINA are the friendliest and the tour gave great insights into the founding story as well.

SINA is a community of young scholars and entrepreneurs, and the museum is showcasing the different innovative businesses they started to address the needs of disadvantaged communities. Absolutely worth the trip to Mpigi, but call ahead to book a tour.

At the equator, you can witness fascinating demonstrations that show how water swirls in opposite directions just meters apart—thanks to the Coriolis effect. With souvenir shops, local crafts, and cafés nearby, the site is not just educational but also a vibrant cultural stop.

The Uganda Equator is a popular tourist landmark located in Kayabwe, about 72 km southwest of Kampala, that allows visitors to stand on the imaginary line dividing the Earth's hemispheres. Visitors can take photos at the monument, witness demonstrations of the Coriolis effect showing how water drains differently in each hemisphere, and shop for local souvenirs. The site is a convenient and recommended stopover for tourists traveling to or from Western Uganda's national parks. A monument marks the Equator line, providing a memorable spot for photographs that symbolize standing in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres simultaneously, one foot in each hemisphere. Witness a demonstration showing how water drains in different directions (clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere, counter-clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere) at the Equator line. Many shops and restaurants are located at the Kayabwe Equator site, offering local crafts and souvenirs.

Quite a good Place. I usually cross this every month. I have been many days, even in the mid night too. One activity is available, and he provides certificate aswell "Crosing the Equator" with a charge of UGX 20,000 (INR 500). Equator restaurant is available beside. Must try their Piza. Don't do big shopping here, I suggest to buy in Africans Market in Kampala.

A fascinating place where you can see the coriolis effect in action. There's also a grey photo opportunity and many small shops where you can find gifts to remember your visit. Even the shop owners are so welcoming and polite with no pressure to buy. Definitely add it to your bucket list.

Visiting it was a unique experience and Hanington Kalungi made it even better. Must visit place if you are in Uganda.

Uganda is one of the few countries crossed by the equator. Therefore there is nothing more to it other than the sense of belonging. The area around it enjoys two rainy seasons as it's overhead the sun twice a year. And the area is also an observation point for other rare natural phenomena. Therefore posing for a picture at the equator is an achievement to boast about. There are also souvenir shops from which a great deal of Ugandan crafts can be purchased.

A Cool Stop on Your Journey! The Equator in Uganda is a must-see, especially if you're traveling from Kampala or Entebbe on a longer journey. It's not a quick trip, but it's absolutely worth the stop. There is no charge to see the monument or to take photos, which is a great bonus. The spot is well-maintained and has a nice, welcoming atmosphere. The highlight for many is the fun and simple water experiment that demonstrates the Coriolis effect. You'll see water swirling in opposite directions on each side of the line and flowing straight down on the line itself. It's a very cool, interactive experience that makes the science come to life! I highly recommend taking a break here. It's a great photo opportunity and an educational, entertaining stop along your travels.
