Cayos Blancos is a small island located 9.8 miles away from Cuba that was named after an East German dignitary by Fidel Castro in 1972. To reach the island, one can take a catamaran and enjoy the crystal clear waters while dining on lobsters at the restaurant which offers buffet lunch. The white sand beaches are breathtakingly beautiful with plenty of animals to explore, making it an ideal destination for those visiting Varadero.
We visited Cayo Blanco as part of a Seatour excursion. The beach is beautiful and clean. The sand is so fine and soft. There is a buffet lunch and open bar included with the seatour. Food was good in comparison to the resort.
Karen C — Google review
Came here during our trip to Cuba last year. Since we upgraded to the Diamond Club at our resort, we got a free catamaran trip here. Food was good, beach was warm, shallow and clear!!
Ryan G — Google review
Beautiful island 🏝 We stopped by the island of Cayo Blanco as part of our 'Sea Tour' excursion and really enjoyed the serene and beauty of the island.
NITIN T — Google review
Gone twice now. Great beach , food was relatively adequate (if u like seafood it's a plus) .. beautiful waters in general. I did the basic catamaran the first time ; this 2nd time we did the catamaran with the added feature of the dolphins. Worth it especially as a first time experience. The 2 main land animals you can see while eating @ the buffet are some kind of lizard /iguana and the mini capybara -like rodent. They're mostly harmless but they like to come around you while eating to get any scraps they can.
Johan A — Google review
If you're travelling to Cuba, you better get on a catamaran (boat) and sail to Cayos Blancos. There's a restaurant in the island that offers buffet lunch including lobsters. Water is nice and clear, it's unbelievable!
Denise K — Google review
Place from the paradise! Sand - like a flour. So soft and nice. Colour if the water - unbelievable. Highly recommended to go there
Marianna Z — Google review
The island is beautiful but the buffet that they serve at the restaurant is disgusting, with very little options and no higiene at all, birds were picking on the food, rice and pasta were there exposed to the heat with no lids or anything to protect... same as the drinks were very bad quality. It was dissapointing

Varahicacos Ecological Reserve, established in 1974, is a nature preserve located on the Hicacos Peninsula in Varadero, Cuba. The reserve boasts abundant flora and fauna, including the Hicaco plant from which the peninsula derives its name. Visitors can spot iguanas, colorful fish, sharks, turtles, and other marine animals. Activities such as diving, snorkeling, climbing and hiking are popular here.
Amazing walk. We loved the knowledge throughout. Be aware to bring children. Recommend no young kids that need strollers. But this is an amazing walk
Kelsey G — Google review
A must visit if you are in varadero! Not for larger people, those with mobility issues, or strollers. Immerse yourself in nature & bring bug spray & close toed shoes! The caves were the best part.
Awildmoosey S — Google review
Gorgeous trail filled with diverse plants and the occasional lizard if you keep an eye out. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was not busy. The trail itself has lots of limestone and exposed tree roots so it is best to wear closed-toed shoes. Fyi, the end of the trail leaves you at a sidewalk by the side of the road.
Amariah G — Google review
It was a close walk from our hotel, Laguna Azul - 25 mins, and to the caves down the road. It was a wonderful nature walk, ruined by mosquitos. I wanted to stop and admire the scenery more but I could only stand the onslaught for so long. If you go during the mosquitos aren't as bad or wear mosquito proof clothing, this is a wonderful walk. The path is some what a mystery to follow, but I liked that. For $5 it was worth it.
Kelly F — Google review
This place is unique with different types of plants that grow on rocks sustaining life on little soil. there is Mangroove plants grown on salty water. surprised to see grave with human remains.
Mekonnen G — Google review
This place is a hiking trail with some caves. You really get to see Cuba in it's natural form which was incredible. I recommend pants because the trail is natural with growth. This place is worth it for site #9 alone. If you look at the pics I included, you crawl in a small cave hole and then there is a large cave that you can walk around explore. It's incredible!
Rob E — Google review
A little pricey at 5CUC per person. The trail is rocky and uneven, even has holes you can fall into. Expect to spend about 1.5 hours walking the trail and crawling into the caves. The lagoon is not worth looking at. Well signed and informative
Jerry M — Google review
It's a short 1km one way walking trail through the forest. To a Canadian who loves the outdoors it's amazing! It costs 5 cuc and comes with a map and small writeup of different things you'll see during the walk. We saw many cacti, beautiful birds, crabs, some kind of rodent, caves and mangroves. Oh and human remains. (Tribal burial site) Its quite a contrast to the forest back home. I very much enjoyed it. Staff on my visit was friendly and didn't insist on tip. I didn't want to post the the burial site to avoid offending anyone. Be warned it's quite the experience, you can get very close to it. I recommend to dress light, wear shoes (rocks are sharp), bring water and bug spray. Money for beer and soft drinks. Drinking in public is allowed here.

Cueva de Ambrosio

Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Cueva de Ambrosio is a series of historic caves with ancient art, unique geological features, and a large population of bats. The area offers short hiking trails through scrub forests and is home to the Patriarca, a massive 500+ year-old cactus. The main attraction is the Cueva de Ambrosio itself, adorned with ancient pictograms and inhabited by bats.
Awesome little hike on the west side of Varadero. Lots of biodiversity. We saw bats, birds, and lizards however according to the guide, snakes and crabs are also present. This is a self guided tour consisting of 15 points of interest ranging from unique plants, to rock formations, etc. The caves are dispersed throughout a few different sections and consist of many rooms, crevices as well as a burial site of a Cuban smuggler(?) Entry fee is USD 5 per person, totally worth it for a relaxing walk when you need a break from the excitement and intensity of the resorts.
David — Google review
These caves are located just off the main Varadero highway. You can walk to them from many resorts or take the Hop On bus. They are beautiful caves with ancient artwork in them that is easily visible with a flashlight. Be sure to ask the person at the gate to give you a guided tour and explain what you are seeing. There are also four types of small bats in the caves that are interesting to learn about. Fee was only $5 per person (and be sure to leave something extra for the guide).
Mark P — Google review
There are bats in the cave which are really what make the experience very cool. It is nice for an hour or 2, the cave isn't all that big. The bats are benign. I went there with my boyfriend, very fun, and felt kind of bad for the poor bats since they were sleeping. There were (supposedly) some indigenous paintings on the walls but there weren't all that many and I found them dubious though I'm no archaeologist.
Lauren P — Google review
$5 USD per person to enter. The lady at entrance desk was very kind. However, cave itself definitely not worth it, save your $ There are bats in the cave, who do fly around you while you’re walking in dark part of the cave, if that is something you’d enjoy The bats aren’t aggressive The Indigenous artwork does not look real, almost looks as though someone drew it on with a black marker
Ashley M — Google review
We visited the caves because they were close to our hotel and it was 100% worth it! We did a 30 minute tour, which was really informative and interesting. Our guide was fantastic and we got some really nice photos. A true hidden gem!
Kerry M — Google review
We walked here from our hotel, Laguna Azul - 30 min walk, and it was worth it. For $5, to see wonderful caves, some cave paintings, and BATS! It was incredible. We were fine with the bats flying around us in the cave and seeing them hang there. The caves were much larger than I thought, not huge, but still very beautify. I highly recommend if you are good with the dark and some bats.
Kelly F — Google review
I recently visited Cueva de Ambrosio, and I can honestly say it was an amazing experience! The beauty of nature here is breathtaking, from the stunning rock formations to the lush surroundings. One of the highlights is the abundance of bats that call this cave home. I have to admit, I was a bit scared of the bats, but the staff was incredibly helpful and reassuring. She took the time to explain why the bats are vital to the ecosystem and helped me feel more at ease. If you're looking for a unique adventure in nature, I highly recommend visiting Cueva de Ambrosio. You'll leave with unforgettable memories and a newfound appreciation
P S — Google review
It’s pretty nice with the lights filtering in through the holes in the ceiling but super small. A lot smaller than I expected based on the other reviews. Admission was 5USD per person which feels quite overpriced considering the size of the cave system and the main point of interest are the bats. Cave paintings feel a bit questionable if they are actually historic or not. Imo 3USD would be more appropriate.

Varadero Dolphinarium is a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and families. The town offers historical sites like Mansion Xanadu and the house of Al Capone, but the real charm lies in its natural beauty. Visitors can explore Punta Hicacos Reserve with its Columbian frescoes, relax at Parque Joson, or discover deserted beaches at Mangon lagoon. The dolphinarium provides an unforgettable experience where you can swim with dolphins and enjoy amazing shows.
The dolphinarium turned out to be a 5 minute walk from grand muthu playa hotel where I lived. So we walked down. The dolphins are super friendly and an absolute pleasure to watch and play with. Such beautiful creatures and a real treat for children

50 CAD$ FOR 2 ADULTS+ 2 KIDS. 5$ each child for camel ride. June 2025. Few people. Shadow, 30 min show. Good for kids
Julia J — Google review
Nice show for kids. There are two shows per day, at 11:00 and 15:30. If you want to swimming with them, there are 3 slots per day, 9:30, 11:30, 16:00. Best is before show, in the morning. Bring the small bills EUR or USD. Entrance for two adults plus one swimming was 80 euros. Pictures and video are another 50 EUR (55 usd or 70 cad per price list). In bar you can buy a beer or lemonade, there is no water and espresso machine doesn’t work :-). Prices are 5 EUR/USD per any drink.
Aleksandar A — Google review
We flew with Air Canada but they dont offer excursions with Dolphins, so we Booked through Nexus Tours in our lobby to see a show and swim with the dolphins. It was $75 USD per person if we took the bus on our own, which was our only choice as the tour only offers pick up and drop off one day a week and we missed it. With direct transfers it would have been $90 USD. The hop on/hop off bus is $5 per person (USD or CAD cash) and it drops you off across the street. The Dolphin show itself is kind of short and its hard to see due to people standing at the fence instead of sitting in the bleachers during the show. The dolphins do some tricks and interact with the trainer which is really fun to watch. The dolphins look healthy and happy, despite the areas they live in not being big enough in my opinion. When it came time to swim with them, we were brought to a different section, told to change into our bathing suits and got a life jacket. My husband and I were with a group of two other women. There is NO opportunity for you to take pictures of your interaction on your own cameras unless you are with someone who is not also swimming. Anyone with you who is not swimming with them will be waiting on the dock and can take some photos/videos. However, the swimming is really just creating photo opportunities for the photographers. You get a kiss from the dolphins, touch their stomachs, they pull you around in a circle, you do a little jump and then do another circle and its essentially over. We did throughly enjoy the interaction and being in the water with them was really cool, but I do wish the importance was put on the experience of the customers and less on the photos. When you're finished, you rinse off and are told to go get your photos. You cannot buy individual photos, you need to buy the whole package. It was $50 USD or $65 CAD. They had no connection for credit cards and we were essentially told too bad. We pushed because we didn't bring cash (our mistake) and after about an hour someone came with a machine. We were charged $65 as Canadians...but our card was charged in USD so we paid $90 for the package instead. They should have charged us $50. So yep, we got scammed and didn't notice until we got back to our resort. Nexus tours was not helpful in correcting this. We got about 20 photos in total for two people and an 8 minute video including the experience of everyone else in the group. Overall, it was a good experience and I didn't feel bad for the dolphins and their conditions as an animal lover. Nothing felt cruel about their envirnment or treatment which I was nervous about. Mostly disappointed in the payment issue.
K — Google review
Paid $40 for family of 3 (two adults, one 4yo), our Spanish is basic but they were explaining everything in English, too. Pic with the dolphin cost $5 for one but both us took a pic. Show takes about 30min. There is really cool playground, too. The only minus...bathrooms. Don't let me start it...
Anna K — Google review
We tried to visit the place after reading the info on their website and my own personal experience from visiting the place years ago. Unfortunately, the price they charge is not what they advertised on their own website. It is not $60 but $83!!! We were shocked but when I showed them the info on their website, they did not acknowledge it and pretended that they knew nothing and the ticket is $83. This is an extortionate price for a few minutes in the water with the dolphins.
Farrokh H — Google review
Very very informal business. Few things to take into consideration: 1. If you don't speak Spanish, you better buy a tour in your hotel. If you speak Spanish and want to go to buy your tickets at the door, be ready to negotiate the price. The first price that I got was US$80 and I had to push the price down. 2. If you decide to swim with the dolphins, be aware that you cannot take pics but you will be forced to buy a package that includes pics (around 100) and a video. You will also need to negotiate the price as the first price is $US110. 3. The washroom is very dirty

Shopping mall
Conference & Convention Centers
Plaza América is Varadero's first proper shopping mall, offering a range of shops and useful tourist locales such as a bank, pharmacy, souvenir shops, and stores catering to travelers' needs. It is conveniently located within walking distance of an Adults Only 5-star resort. The mall boasts modern upscale facilities with beautiful ocean views and easy access by bus or taxi. Visitors can enjoy spacious and clean surroundings with Covid safety protocols in place, including hand sanitizers throughout the area.
Very fancy and great architecture shopping mall with fancy brands like Puma and Benetton. All prices are in US dollars, it has a big supermarket which has almost everything, although meat was lacking. Overall you get a lot of fancy and expensive Western products to buy at this place.
Human K — Google review
The place was neat, you can access the toilets without giving any tip to anyone. We entered the store and they have limited displays and are priced in American dollars. We were there on a Saturday and hardly no people around. Mostly tourists are seen once in a while. You can access the beach from here.
Mary L — Google review
It's nice and refreshing to see a modern upscale shopping mall in Cuba! It's located by the ocean with beautiful views and very easy access by bus or taxi. The mall is beautiful! It's very spacious, clean and great Covid safety protocols - hand sanitizers in every corner! Lots of outdoor sitting /resting area. There are a few souvenir shops, nice quality and tasteful clothing stores, cigar and rum shops. The prices are higher for quality items, but very unique and worthy. There is a supermarket downstairs with good selections of liquor and beers, but limited selections on other items because of the pandemic. Nicely decorated restaurants and bars, but few of them were open. The price of the items in some shops seems to be in Euro. Most shops accept foreign cash and credit cards. The customer service in shops and supermarket are very friendly, polite and helpful. Overall it was a very present shopping and sightseeing experience away from the hotel. Would definitely recommend if you want to see the modern side of Cuba!
S C — Google review
Pricey items, that are outdated. I used to love Colors of Benetton when I went to Europe 20 years ago. They have a store at the Plaza. The Plaza is like shopping at Winner's here in Canada, various items, overpriced, outdated and out of style. All shops have extremely high prices, and I am sure that the shops know this, but they should really decrease the items by about 90% of what they are asking for. This is by no means a comparable place to Rodeo drive in Hollywood CA, but prices are comparable to that. Beautiful spot, Ocean view is spectacular, and great for photos. Restaurant food is about @200 USD each, unreal. They have a little gift shop/vendor area outside the back of the Plaza, we bought souvenirs there. We only visited the Plaza for Cigars, and did not buy anything else. Save your money folks!
Melissa W — Google review
The shops were fine, it was really just a grocery store (with no energy drinks, despite the redbull signs). The bathrooms feature a man standing outside charging you to go in, but my washroom didn't have soap in it. Another patron confronted him on the matter saying it was "not fair-o" to charge a fee to pee, given the lack of hygienic standards being met. The purse my girlfriend got was nice, the product offered is as promised, however the dingey environment, and weirdo standing outside the bathroom make for a less than perfect shopping experience.
Christopher P — Google review
Other reviewers were right about the market. Avoid this place. They are dishonest. Notice the price tags have no currency on them. So when you get to pay and notice a price difference, they say the price is in EURO but you pay by credit card at the cashier in USD! This is totally messed up. So no matter what currency is your credit card, you will pay an unknown "commission" depending on "products you buy". So they say. How shady is that? And by what other reviewers are saying, the commission is substantial. Like 30 CAD! Just avoid it.
Kam A — Google review
At this mall you can find some stores like: clothing, pharmacy, souvenirs, baby products, coffee and restaurants. All the prices are in USD and they accept credit cards.
V P — Google review
It was never open , when we came they always said it’s closed and it will be open tomorrow. So we came the next day and it was open . This happened 2 times . Shops in the mall - space used for the shops 40% , opened shops 25%. Italian restaurant , cocktail bar, pharmacy with very few things, some gift shops , one grocery store , bank. Cash machines not working. They give you only pesos in the bank so take dollars or euro with you to Cuba . I recommend to buy all souvenirs or small gifts in airport ( it’s much cheaper and a lot to choose from ) . Rum or cigars - I recommend to buy in the mall or somewhere in the city. So this place has a lot of potential but… I know now is not very good time for Cuba. The mall it’s in beautiful location , by the beach . So close and the beach it’s just breathtaking. I hope they will do some terraced restaurants or bars from that side of the mall.

The Museo Municipal de Varadero is a charming museum housed in a traditional Cuban wooden villa, showcasing period furniture, old home decor items, and exhibits on the local history. The museum's collection may be of less interest compared to the beautiful old building itself, which is a well-maintained blue-and-white two-story wooden structure with gingerbread trim and a red-tile roof. Visitors can take guided tours to gain insight into the pre-revolution history and ways of living in this resort town.

I believe that museum was nice but it is obviously closed and permanently. We visited in january 2018 and the building was empty, closed shut and collapsing. It is not known if they moved the exhibition somewhere else, but only a couple of old photos of gunners from the revolution remain on the porch

This charming establishment offers an immersive experience in Cuban rum culture, featuring a vast selection of authentic rums, including aged classics and innovative blends. Visitors can embark on a tour to learn about the rum-making process and enjoy expert guidance from knowledgeable staff. Additionally, La Casa del Ron serves as a prime location to purchase various Cuban rums, including flavored varieties.
Great place to test and purchase rums. The staff were kind and the place looks pretty cool.

It's good place to get cigar and rum but they have only one thing, if you speak Spanish you will get different price
Darko T — Google review
Not so much to choose. Everyone will send you here to buy some local rum, but unfortunately there isn't much to choose from, just lots of bottles of the same brand. This place is nice, staff is friendly, they offer you rum tasting and you find cigars here as well. But that’s it, same bottles you can find in any hotel or at the airport with the same price.
Cirrus S — Google review
La Casa del Ron is a gem in Varadero that rum enthusiasts and casual visitors alike shouldn't miss. As a returning customer, I can confidently say this place maintains its charm and quality. The highlight is undoubtedly their free rum tasting, which offers an excellent opportunity to sample some of Cuba's finest rums. Their rum selection is impressive - arguably the best you'll find in the area. What's more, the prices are quite competitive, especially when compared to what you'd find at the airport or in downtown Varadero Mall. The atmosphere is another big plus. It's a well-maintained, air-conditioned space that provides a welcome respite from the Cuban heat. It's the perfect spot to take a break and relax during your walk through Varadero. For cigar aficionados, La Casa del Ron also offers a great selection, making it a one-stop-shop for two of Cuba's most famous exports. Whether you're looking to taste, relax, or purchase some rum to take home, La Casa del Ron delivers on all fronts. The combination of quality products, reasonable prices, and a pleasant atmosphere makes this a must-visit destination in Varadero. It's an excellent way to experience a bit of Cuban culture and take home some high-quality souvenirs. In summary, if you're in Varadero, make sure to set aside some time for La Casa del Ron. It's more than just a shop - it's an experience that encapsulates the spirit of Cuba in a bottle (or several). :)

Nice spot to visit in Varadero during the day, good selection of local rums with a history lesson on the side
Jay S — Google review
Very nice place with friendly staff and a wide selection of rum and a smaller selection of cigars. There's a tasting area, I would be sure to take your time there. They accept CUC and credit cards, with a 3% fee, which is handy if you end up buying more than you planned - which you might after trying some samples. Prices for rum are quite a bit cheaper than in Canada.

Great music, from the 50,60, 70, 80, 90s live entertainment. Typical drinks at affordable prices. We spent an evening listening to live music, really enjoyed ourselves, some people got up to dance. Noise level was good, you could chat before the music started. Bathrooms are clean, and worked good.

Live rock music, rock groups performances, we really enjoyed to be there...
Burcu S — Google review
We came here as we stayed across the road. The band is amazing and plays 90s rock mostly. All tunes everyone knows (or should know). The drinks are very steep Priced but it might as well as the service is so slow you won’t spend a Lot at all in a night. I ordered a cuba libre and had to reach for the Rennie after one sip. I didn’t finish the rest. The free rum and colas were a LOT better quality in my mid budget all inclusive resort. You wil notice a lot of drinks being left on tables and not being finished probably for the same reason. My advice: bite the bullet and order a can of beer for the top price of 5€$. All drinks are the same Price here but ordering a 2 liter glass of beer doesn’t work (i tried). If it was for drink quality and service of the waiter they would get a 1 Star but the music and friendly security make it a 3 star. It’s the band/ people who make the party here.
Nicky P — Google review
Horrible - went over the years and the service has become terrible to Canadians. Two different prices given to locals vs tourists along with quality of service. Server was rude and the drinks were awful. Looked like spit was in one and we counted over 7 drinks with no alcohol in them at all and we approached them and they never came back to us. We had a group of 10 and all 10 of us thought the service of the years has gotten worse
Casey G — Google review
I've been to this place about 4 times in the last 2 years. I always had an amazing time listening to live music here. Drinks are really good and well priced. If you like live rock music, this is the place to go. It's outdoors so make sure you go when there is no rain in the forecast. I've only been there in August both years, and the band played from 9pm to 12am for 3 hours, non stop. Highly talented musicians and a great vibe at this location. I wish I had something similar where I live, but at least I get to enjoy it when going on vacation. Very highly recommended to go visit if you are in Varadero.

This garden is just next to the Beatles Bar and Restaurant. It’s worth to visit. The environment is quiet and peaceful with beautiful scenery. It is very relaxing with a drink next to the lake.

During my trip to Cuba I visited Varadero 3 times, on each of my 3 trips this place was a must stop. The views are beautiful, the staff are lovely and the drinks are to die for. One of the bartenders said they had the best Pina Colada in Varadero, and I agree, it was definitely the best one I had! Love this park and cant wait to visit again on my next trip!

Wonderful place, very, very beautiful park, with amazing mini lake and awesome landscape, special thanks for wonderful bench, very nice view from top, and very good small bridges, very nice location, inside park few good restaurants and music club, with great music performance every day, i mean Beatles club, THANK YOU VERY MATCH AND GREATEST GRATITUDE FOR YOU DEAR PARK !!!!!!!

The parc ruined my wedding. We paid a big sum of money to use the bar in the parc as a private event. They did not respect that and allowed anyone in. The alcohol we had purchased disappeared very fast because random cubans who were not part of our wedding were drinking our alcohol, people who we didn't invite ate our wedding food. As the bride, I didn't eat at all because they forgot to make my food completely and then they shut it down hours earlier than what was in the contract. My husband had put his backpack behind the bar to keep it safe and someone stole it. Some random lady who was not part of the wedding let my 7 year old autistic kid get on the paddleboat without knowing who she belonged to, I caught that just in time and got her before she was completely on the boat. It was pitch black at that point. They didn't respect anything. Never book a wedding there.

Nice park for a walk or to go jogging in the morning. A couple of animals are running around and they have some nice restaurants and bars which open in the evening. The mini golf place is pretty messed up but I guess it is not active anymore, same for the pool at the back of the park.

A very nice little park, it was rainy so we didn't see too much in it, but it was a very nice little walk around.

I dropped off some solar flashlights to ensure the services continued during power outages. What an amazing stone church and the priest actually spoken English. I'm sure that the church has its original pews

Friendly local Catholic Church. Sunday service is 11am in Spanish. Amazing choir group. We were told that donations are distributed to local families by the church. The best times to donate items are 9am to 12pm on Mondays to Thursdays. You can also donate on Sundays before (9am) or after service. Ring the bell (or knock) on the admin door on the side of the church (as shown in photos). Someone in the church will answer the door.

Phenomenal beach. Beautiful white sands, well maintained. Low on sea debris. Close to town to grab a quick snack

Whenever in Havana you’re gonna wanna take your family to the most beautiful beach in the country Varadero Beach! It’s about a 2 Hour from Havana but it is absolutely worth it. There’s a couple stops on the way. There are a few bars and restaurants in town. But for the beach I would highly recommend buying bottles of water snacks and sandwiches if possible for the beach. There is a floaty obstacle course for kids that’s fairly cheap there’s a lot of water toys and activities including snorkeling on a catamaran. Very fun very affordable the water is literally perfect! I’ve been to many beaches in around the world and this one so far is my favorite even better than Hawaii!

All I can say varadero beach is gorgeous 😍. Its about a 2 hour drive from havana. The sand and ocean is pristine. The water clear and blue. It's not overcrowded. Only thing is the Pina colada drink wasn't good. There are beach chairs for rent. When we reached all the chairs were sold out. Overall the beach is 100%
NUBIAN A — Google review
Beautiful beach north east of Varadero that stretches well over a dozen kilometers. It has light and clear blue water and fish a plenty to view by snorkeling. This stretch is where the majority of the resorts are but you can enter the east part of the beach through the town of Varadero. The sunset viewing opportunities are also magnificent. This is one of the nicest and cleanest beaches in the world.

If you’re from a country where people don’t litter on the beach you’ll be disappointed. Was covered in rubbish when I was there. I hope local authorities act on this because once word gets out the beach has rubbish everywhere, tourists won’t want to come.

This is a gorgeous cave with a refreshing swimming hole. FYI the water was decently chilly despite having gone in March. It is quite touristy so expect a plentiful crowd and a line to go down to the water. It is definitely a great activity to do if you find yourself in the area.

This was a pretty cool place to go! The water was lovely. The walk down is beautiful! We spent about 1.5 hours in the water exploring. When we were done we went up top and had drinks and food and then changed. The cave is a lot smaller that expected. It was very busy, I would suggest going in the morning! We were there for 2 hours and had about 30 minutes to ourselves then the buses from excursions came. They have spikes on the deck posts to hang your bags from. They have a life guard. We took a cab from our resort and asked if he could wait and take us home. We paid 80 CAD and we got two hours of swim time. Total time with him was 4 hours (The excursion was $75USA per person) this was saved us a lot of money. Things I wish I brought: - toilet paper - swim goggles - water proof flashlight for the cave
Shyanne K — Google review
A beautiful cave with clear turquoise fresh water. You can dive, swim or snorkel. The place is actually not big. We arrived at 9:30am so it wasn't that crowded. But I can imagine that it must be jam-packed in the middle of the day when it's hot outside and nice and cool in the cave.
Gary F — Google review
This place was incredible!!!!!! The whole experience. That being said go alone and not with the excursion. I read that the excursion you only get so much time in the caves and it's expensive.. we took a cab from our resort. Paid $5 each to get in and swam for 30 mins or really as long as you want... the water temperature and colour are JUST AMAZING!!!! There is a small little bar where we got drinks! Also if you were already there check out PLAYA CORAL only 5 mins from there!!

The Cuevas de Bellamar, also known as the Bellarmar Caves, are a magnificent natural wonder that has been around for over 300,000 years. These spacious caves feature stunning stalactites and stalagmites, with a section of about 1km open to the public for tours. One of the highlights is a 12m tall stalagmite named Manto de Colon (Columbus mantle) and an underground stream.
This is a wonderful, scenic tour that is a great activity to get away from the scorching hot sun. Our tour guide was very informative and even went the extra mile to take photos for people. On site, there are bathrooms and two bars where you can purchase drinks and snacks. Due to the high humidity, it is quite slick in the cave so it would be beneficial to wear shoes that have good grip. I would recommend checking this place out.

Bellemare Cave is an excellent place to escape from the hot sun and explore something unique. If you’re planning to visit Varadero to Havana, it’s the perfect halfway stop, definitely worth a visit! The entrance fee is very low and it includes travel guide. Our tour guide, Eric, was amazing, he explained everything so well and really took care of the group throughout the visit. You can hire a photographer for an extra cost, but most smartphones capture great pictures too (just remember to buy a ticket if you plan to use your own device for photography). The cave itself is fascinating with beautiful natural formations, wonders of nature! The humidity is quite high inside, highly recommend wearing light clothing and well gripped shoes since the ground can be a bit slippery. Overall, we had a very cool and refreshing experience!

Amazing! We walked for 700m inside. Lots of cool cave formations. Their Tour guide was great. Kids enjoyed having their own flashlights to check out little tunnels etc, but would have been fine without it also. This is an awesome experience but if you are claustrophobic and you can't walk a lot I wouldn't suggest this because there's only one way in and one way out and it's really beautiful it's just a lot of turns ups and downs and the stairs take forever to leave but overall for the price it's amazing and historical.
Diana G — Google review
Great place for exploring. Be prepared to sweat. If you are old bring a fan and water and your puffer if you have breathing problems. Also if you go down you need to go up so any mobility issues will be tested. I went with my mom and mother in law who are in their 60s and it was tough for them. If young and able I highly recommend it!

When you are done go see Sauto Theater, Hotel Velasco, Municipal Museum, Museo de los Bomberos, Second Plaza de Armas and its buildings, Bellamar Caves, Memorial-Museum “El Morrillo”, Museo de Arte de Matanzas, Museo Provincial (Palacio de Junco), San Severino Castle, Yumurí Valley, Cafetal La Dionisia historical plantation (look it up on Google), Cueva Saturno, Playa Corales and between 5:50 and 620PM every night in from of this museum thousands of birds arrive and sign in unison. Don't miss it. We had food and drinks at the brand new hotel next door and watched Mother Nature at her best. Nature's free concert!

Indeed worth a visit, the town it self is a very nice and interesting place to stay and visit. The museum is really nice to visit and know the pharmacy how it was in the past . The ticket is 6 CUC per person .
Dr M — Google review
There's a tour by a guide (Spanish only) who will provide a history of this old pharmacy, as well as the historical context of the surrounding area. At the end of the tour, you'll be led into a room that sells glass crafts made by artists.
Ethan D — Google review
You are welcome for a low price by a lady who knows all about the history of the museum and will provide you with many details. Amazing place well worth a visit right in the center of Matanzas.

Estadio Palmar de Junco

Sports club
Sights & Landmarks
Estadio Palmar de Junco, known as Cuba's first baseball stadium, is a treasure trove of history nestled within a charming neighborhood. During my visit, I was captivated by the stories that linger in the air since its opening in 1874. Although there were no games happening at the time, I witnessed young players gearing up for practice, which added to the vibrant atmosphere.
I am completed research on baseball in Cuba and the connection with the Negro Leagues. I was finally able to visit the cathedral known as Cuba's first baseball stadium. It is a remarkable venue with so much history. I love it because it is tucked into a neighborhood and closing your eyes and just imagine what games looked like in 1874? During my visit there were no games, however the junior division was preparing for a practice. The pictures listed are from my Nov. 2022 trek. I will be returning Nov. 2023 for an update as well as better pictures.

We paid a visit to this stadium in 2015, as part of a Road Scholar tour. We had the pleasure of meeting Rigoberto Rosique, a star player of the 1960s and 1970s - one of the 'Three Musketeers' immortalized on the outfield wall. He was gracious, still in incredible shape, and shared with us an autobiographical chat as well as a tour of the Cuban baseball museum in the building along the third base line. Our group then had the opportunity to wander the stadium and the field itself. As the oldest ballpark in Cuba, I'd say that Fenway, Wrigley, and Palmar de Junco are currently the historical Big 3. Highly recommended.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Ermita de Monserrate is a stunning hilltop destination that offers visitors breathtaking views of the vibrant city and the lush Yumurí Valley. This Spanish-style church, constructed in 1872 by Catalonian colonists, stands as a testament to their cultural heritage and influence. The journey to this serene spot involves a scenic 1.
I had a great time here. The view of the city of Matanzas is very beautiful, hard to find. The church have been through a restoration process and now looks very beautiful. It's simple but beautiful and magic at the same time. The staff working on the church was very nice. The explained to me some of the historic concept of this place, and show me the bell tower. This is a very special and magic place. They said if you make a wish and then ring the bell: your wish will come true. I loved this place. Matanzas is a very beautiful city and its people are really nice, kind and friendly.

Established in 1875, the Ermita de Monserrate, or Iglesia de Monserrate Church, exemplifies Cuban Colonial architecture in Matanzas, Cuba. Constructed by prominent Catalan settlers, this 19th-century chapel harmoniously blends Cuban and Catalan influences. Adhering to the Doric order*, the Neoclassical-style church boasts stonework walls and a tile and wood roof, complemented by intricate sculptures. *(The Doric order is characterized by a plain, unadorned column capital and a column that rests directly on the stylobate* (*a stylobate comprises the temple flooring of the temple without a base. ) Surrounded by serene landscapes, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Matanzas and the Valley of Yumurí, paired with a refreshing cocktail and soothing music at the nearby bar. A small fee of 50 Cuban pesos is required for washroom use; exchanging small pesos notes for tips and amenities is advisable upon arrival in Cuba. The author regrets not fully exploring the church’s interior, anticipating an exquisite experience.

Great place overlooking Matanzas city and it’s free entrance. There is one cafe where you can hang out with friends.

D T — Google review
A very nice church with beautiful views on a clear day that is unparalleled. The church has a very nice and spacious park outside that brings to mind old-timey movies as well. Keep in mind that there is a fee to go to the second floor of the church. The people who maintain the church are also very friendly. Small notches off for some of the people in the area outside the church who are friendly but, after some friendly chats, request for "donations" persistently. They weren't threatening or anything, but it makes for some awkward moments, especially because they knew we were tourists. Given the fact that we were aware of the levels of economic difficulty of Cuba, it caused even more awkwardness. Didn't ruin the trip but something to note.
DK L — Google review
The view is great from there, but we couldn't bother to go to another tourist attraction just to give even more CUC(local currency for foreigners) so we didn't enter the church.
Dimitar R — Google review
The most beautiful place in the entire Matanzas city with beautiful views on both the city itself and the Yumuri river valley on the other side. The monastery is closed. Few mosquitos and a very chatty nightwatch might disturb the tranquility of this place.
Reinis B — Google review
Beautiful view of the city. Beware of the locals here trying to make you pay for parking and taking pictures. Just laugh at them and say police, they will leave you alone.

Estadio Victoria de Girón

Sports Complexes
Victoria de Giron is a must-visit for sports enthusiasts, especially during baseball season from October to April. It's the home of the local team, Los Cocodrilos, and offers an authentic Cuban baseball experience. The stadium may be old and in need of upgrades, but it doesn't diminish the lively atmosphere. Outside vendors offer delicious snacks and souvenirs. For a more seamless experience, consider befriending a local guide to help with tickets and concessions.
First in 1874 there was the historic Palmarde Junco, now the action has moved across the creek to Estadio Victor Giron. It is a well kept venue and home to the Crocodiles. If you are in Matanzas you will want to check it out as it is by the main park as well as the zoo. Very easy to get to.
Fred I — Google review
Amazing authentic experience. Crowd is great. Befriend a local guide to go with, if possible. It'll be easier to get tickets and concessions. If you don't speak Spanish it could get tough. Tix are 1 CUP (.05 CUC) to sit anywhere except behind home. The locals are nice, and it's very safe. A lot of food/beer vendors outside the Stadium, no alcohol inside. If you want a beer or snack midgame then ask security to give you in out privileges. If you're a washroom connoisseur then be forewarned, you'll be very dissapointed.
Kevin S — Google review
The atmosphere itself was amazing! It is really different from watching baseball in North America as it was always loud - I really appreciated it. The stadium is old and is in need of upgrades, but it doesn't take away from the experience of watching Cuba's official sport. There are very few vendors selling snacks and sandwiches inside the stadium, but the good food and souvenirs are located outside the stadium. You are best to purchase prior to entering. Also, there is no alcohol sold or consumed inside the stadium; again it's all done outside.

Kittyhawk S — Google review
The number one team in the league, very good quality players, super fans and only 3 pesos to sit in the best seats. I agree the stadium could use some TLC.

The Puente de Bacunayagua is an engineering marvel that spans a lush, tree-filled gorge, making it a must-visit for anyone traveling between Havana and Matanzas. Completed in just two years during the mid-20th century, this impressive structure boasts 41 towering columns that rise over 100 meters high and stretches more than 300 meters in length.
The view was incredible, and was just a pleasure to enjoy. Stopped there on our way to Havana, from Varadero. Super cool, would definitely recommend.

Such a great place to stop on the way to Havana as it's the half way mark. Washrooms, drinks and a little place to get a sandwich. The views are spectacular.

Breathtaking views from the top. Tallest bridge in Cuba; one of the wonders of Cuban Civil Engineering. There is a small restaurant that has washrooms and other shops where you can purchase souvenirs. They offer piña coladas made with real pineapples ($5 CAD/ USD for 1).
Kavita R — Google review
Very scenic place to view the mountain. Excellent place with drinks bar, shops and very very clean rest rooms. Surely stop by if going to havana from varadero.

This bridge is absolutely stunning! It feels like you are in the middle of the jungle. The view is spectacular and there is a small shop that serves fresh pina coladas for $5. Definitely worth a stop on the way from Varadero/Mantanzas to Havana.
