Santo Tomás Great Cavern

Caverns & Caves
The Cueva de Santo Tomas is the largest cave system in Cuba and offers guided tours of a section that features impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Visitors can enjoy a 90-minute tour with a small group, as the location is not overly crowded. The cool interior provides relief from the heat while learning about geological formations. The caves are home to local wildlife, including a friendly pup that may join on the tour.
Great visit! The climb isn't as terrifying as it looks. The cave itself is well worth seeing. Our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Be sure to try some fresh coconut (if the vendor is there) after your hike.
Bill K — Google review
Interesting cave to visit, however be aware the last tour of the day is at 1530. To reach the cave, it requires a 20 min ride from Vinales. Once at the entrance you will be equipped with a helmet with a spot light, different colours for men and women. To reach the cave one needs to climb a steep hill over rocks and other obstacles. The normal route was partially destroyed by the hurricane in spring 2022. The view at the entrance over the valley is spectacular. The cave is not paved or equipped especially for visitors with lights and platforms. You really walk in the complete dark over obstacles, although mostly save, except for some slippery areas. There is one stretch which requires climbing a ladder. One reaches very large chamber which is lighted. In total the cave system is apparently 47km long, open to the public are just a few kms. Was an interesting experience, different from other cave systems visited. Not recommended for persons who are not fit or strong footed.
Ewald H — Google review
20 km west of Viñales, in El Moncada, is the Gran Caverna de Santo Tomás , considered the largest cave system in Cuba and the second largest in the Americas. The cave does not cease to amaze, not only because of its over 46 km length, but also because of all the beauty within- of course for visitors it is much less km. Just take good shoes as you need to first climb about 20 minutes.
Paweł — Google review
This is known to be the largest cave network in Cuba and it is pretty big. The guided tour is worth a visit. There is a nominal fee for entrance and they provide you with helmets and torch lights. It is a fairly easy tour and the hike does not involve portions that are too steep. As long you are wearing a good pair of sports or climbing shoes, you will be fine. I did it in beach chappals and still managed to get away with it :) There are far better caves else where (recommend Mexico and Budapest if you really like caving), but this is still worth a visit if you are in Vinales. Just make sure you bargain for the taxi to get here so it does not end up being too expensive.
VJ — Google review
We joined the official guided tour and there English speaking guide in the entrance to lead all people in a specific time schedule. There was also private one but the locals told us better to join the official one. They would provide you the helmet (with lamp) in the ticket office. The cave is very big so we could only visit a part of it. Completely dark in some points as the cave was well preserved naturally without any additional stuff built. The part open for public is not that difficult to walk. It's an very interesting experience and recommend to all.
Fibbe T — Google review
Great experience, english speaking guide, he was very friendly and funny. The cave is huge and nice place to cool down in the hot and sunny weather. Tour took about an hour, nice time to discover new adventure.
Monika N — Google review
Tours are available in Engel is and Spanish. The walk up to the cave is a little steep so make sure that you have good shoes on. Tours only takes about and 1-2 hours depending on the size of the group. Your guide will walk you through and explain how the locals have used the caves over the many years.
Jessica D — Google review
If you have never visited a cave before this cave would be great. However, the tour is very slow and no as interesting as other cave tours I have been on. You never get truly deep into the cave (you can always see light from the outside). 10 CUC per person. 25 CUC for a taxi from Vinales that will wait for you. Don't pay any more than this!

Sights & Landmarks
Finca El Pinar (Alejandro Robaina) is a genuine place that isn't overrun by tourism. Visitors can simply show up at the location and be guided to the farm, where they are well taken care of. The tour provides an insightful explanation of the cigar planting and manufacturing process. Although cigar sales are not available on-site, visitors appreciate the informative experience. The farm holds historical significance in Cuba's cigar industry, with Alejandro Robaina being a prominent figure in its history.
Working tobacco farm in Pinar del Río,Cuba. Informative tour explains both the history of Alejandro Robaina's role in Cuba's cigar industry and the process of selecting and rolling the leaves. They'll roll one right in front of you to take away.
John S — Google review
I was lucky on my first trip in 2002 to meet Don Alejandro Robaina. I was working on an aid to development programme, he was a brilliant mind, enjoyed discussing thing with him.
Stefano G — Google review
There may have been a time when this was a great farm to visit but now it's little more than rehearsed dog and pony show with a famous name. There was a tour guide who shows you some pictures and takes you into the secadera (tobacco drying warehouse) for 5 minutes. They then show you a rolling demonstration and you keep that cigar (extremely light bodied cigar that tasted like nothing). The old guy who rolls the cigar will accost you on your way out and beg for money.

(Translated by Google) A genuine place without being forced to visit tourists. Basically, to visit, you just have to show up at the location. A motorcyclist stays on the road and helps customers get to the farm. We were very well looked after. The visit was attentive and explained the process of planting and making cigars. The sale of cigars is not allowed on site. We loved it. (Original) Local genuíno e sem ser forçado ao turismo de visitação. Basicamente para a fazer a visita é só comparecer ao local. Restaurant Mural de la Prehistoria offers a fantastic experience with delicious food, breathtaking views of the mural, and a lively atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy tasty Cuban cuisine and one of the best piña coladas in Cuba while being surrounded by stunning scenery. The restaurant also features live music and a roof covered with dried palm leaves, creating an authentic and enjoyable dining environment.
A restaurant with a breath-taking panorama through the Vinales Valley. Nearby is the Mural de la Prehistoria. Best pinacolada ever! Good food, live music!

Nice but not breathtaking. I would recommend to go there by push bike and then go to Mirador Bellavista (have a cold drink at this beautiful spot with an incredible view), its only a short ride from “The Mural”, after that go back to the main road using a different road. Way better than paying a taxi.
Gonzalo B — Google review
Delicious food in front of you, wonderful mural view is just behind and the rum is given to your hand so that you can add as much as you want into your Pina Colada. What else do you want? We enjoyed the lunch here a lot. We stopped here on the way to our Cave tour but it was not just an ordinary stop. Food, atmosphere in short everything was satisfactory.
Godibesh — Google review
Extremey tasty food. Plus live band (which doesn't play Guantanamera only). plus roof covered with dried plam leaves, plus jawdropping scenery with murals on the mountain. Whats more to say? Go ythere and enjoy.
Mirosław S — Google review
First of all the place is fantastic, secondly: the piña colada we tasted close to this place (i suppose- the same owner) was one of the best in Cuba and third: the food was simple but VERY delicious. We enjoyed the cuban authentic food (we also ate with some locals at home). Un saluto da Italia e Moldova!
Dana B — Google review
Best piñacolada ever!!!! Besides that, there's nothing else to have! The view is mind-blowing in a 360 degrees radius.

Life size mural on mountain wall makes it a special place. This place used to be under water. It emerged from the sea with all fossils in its body. And artists captures its beauty through elaborate art in wall mural. If you are in Vinales valley, the world heritage site, you should not miss this place. Food is absolutely delicious. Better to spend days instead of just day tour. One of the most peaceful place I have ever visited.

Viñales Valley, located around 100 miles west of Cuba's capital, is a picturesque rural area known for its palm tree-studded landscape and tobacco farming. The valley is celebrated for its dense tropical vegetation, vibrant tobacco fields, and towering limestone hills. Visitors can gain insight into rural Cuban life by exploring the plantations and staying in local homes known as casas particulares.
A beautiful valley. I have not seen more beautiful nature in all of Cuba. This is a paradise for the eyes and the soul. You will really enjoy it!

Our extra excursion through Infotur with Jesús and Orlando was great. We drove out of Havana via a different route than from the airport the previous night as was cool to see the city, the people, the colours and the buildings in sunshine. Once on the motorway, we made pretty good progress although it was very weird overtaking small horse and cart vehicles because of the cost of buying and maintaining a car. Lots of people hitching along the roadside was explained as being due to amost non-existent publc transport. We made good progress on the motorway and after a couple of hours stopped for a toilet and drinks break at Las Palmas roadside bar/restaurant/private accommodation where we learned two more Cuban lessons - 1. it is customary to pay a small amount to use the public toilets and there is usually a woman sitting outside as a guardian of the toilet paper, so you don't really have a choice. It was no problem doing so here, except we had no Pesos, as the toilets were spotless and 2, you can pay fot things in USD or EUR in most places and they have an exchange rate in CUP (300 to the Euro) so in the bar we ordered 2 drinks, paid in Euros, received our change in CUP, paid a relative pittance for the toilets and were ready to continue on to Viñales. Once off the motorway, things were very different. The uncovered roads were terrible to be driven along in places with enormous potholes and general erosion due to the weather. This made for a very bouncy ride, so anyone prone to travel sickness should be wary. However, we drove through village after village on the outskirts of Viñales with brightly coloured houses, neat little gardens at the front. and probably fruit and vegetables growing at the rear. There were lots of well-fed dogs running around as well as goats and cattle. Once we were in Viñales itself the road improved and we stopped at a building that looked like the village church. Jesús got out of the minibus and went inside and after about 10 minutes came back out and beckoned us to go with him. inside the building there were rows of desks with a couple of women - they were all women - sitting in each row and which reminded me of a 1920s school. it turned out we were in a place where huge bundles of tobacco leaves would come straight from the farms/plantations and the women at the desks were sorting the leaves individually and by hand into 3 different types of leaf to be used in different stages of the cigar making process. A woman who seemed to be the boss and with whom Jesús was giving some paperwork gave us a very thorough explanation of the entire process. It was so educational that we didn't have any questions at the end. It was also a relief to get out and back into 34º heat as inside it felt much hotter and the humidity was so fierce, I was sweating rivers! Next, we continued up a mountain where we ere greeted with a small cocktail and allowed time to cool down from high above the famous Viñales Valley, which we were told dates from the Jurassic period. Just a shame there' so little fauna in Cuba. After having recovered from the tobacco experience, we went to see the Mural of Prehistory before having lunch beside it in what we would become used to in Cuba - very basic, but good quality food included for lunch every day, but no choices and no menus. Everyone gets the same. Before leaving I went to a real Cuban public toilet. Despite being part of the restaurant, I would soon get used to the dark, very humid cubicles often with no seat on the porcelain.re leaving. Heading back to Havana seemed a lot quicker than it felt heading to Viñales earlier in the day, but the potholes and bumpy roads were still there. On the motorway we got caught in a torrential downpour which required Orlando to improvise repairs to the windscreen wipers as the rain was too hard for them. He managed to do this and get us back to Havana and the enormous puddles that had overflowed the drains. Now I found out the answer to a question I'd been meaning to ask about why the kerbs are so high!
Mark J — Google review
The valley is beautiful and one of the best place to see the sunrise in all Cuba is in Los Acuáticos valley; you will see a big part of the valley, where the landscape is just amazing. ¡You have to visit this place!

Buena Vista Vinales! Elevated picturesque vistas is perfect for watching the sunset. This destination is worth the trek over. About 3 hours away from Havana and a completely different feel and vibe. Plenty to do and see and take in the relaxing and tranquil vibes of the town. Lots of bars, restaurants and nature activities to explore. Very friendly people. If you are planning a trip to Cuba this destination is not to be missed. Expect consistent power outages throughout the day.
Vik-Photo — Google review
Yeah.. It's some typical tourist ventures-so what! It's a day away from the usual. Have a cigar, have a coffee, a rum, some good food, more drinks and enjoy natural beauty. You are on holiday after all and you'll do "touristy" sooner or later.
Gl Z — Google review
Trying to escape from the Havana Routine, Viñales is the place to go: This is the country side but everyone in Viñales is pro tourising, all the houses are available to rent, the Hostals, apartments look better than most in La Havana and most in Matanzas. People seem to be more friendly, food taste better and the air is cleaner. You're surrounded by the Viñales mountains which have kind of the square formation. We did the horseback riding through Viñales Valley $20 to$25 and the tour took us to the top, from where you can see and appreciate the Valley and the mountains, a great and tiring experience. I suggest you visit for at least two days so you can visit all the locations like the caves and walk around the town and do the Zip lining. Overall, we had a much better time at Viñales than at La Havana and Matanzas. We visited with teens and they loved it. One thing I didn't like was the Indian Cave, they charged us full price but didn't tell us that half of the cave was closed down, ask first.
Miguel M — Google review
Vinales Valley is a wonderful place to visit! Go here for: - Great food and drinks that are very reasonably priced - party on the main street and town square with some fantastic live music and dance - Natural beauty, sunrise and sunset views, peace and quiet - gorgeous caves - hikes, horse riding, tobacco farms - friendly people all around You get to see some beautiful faces of rural Cuba which is very different from Havana or Varadero, highly recommend to visit this.
VJ — Google review
If you're an adventurer and don't want to stay in the super-touristy spots of Havana or Varadero, take a day trip to Vinales. It's so beautiful here and you won't regret it. From Havana, it's a 3 hour drive. Via bus, it's about 12 CUC, one way. If you take a yellow taxi, they will charge you much more than that. Try and get a local to take you, but make sure there's at least 4 of you to make it worth the drivers' time and money. When in Vinales, do the 5 hour horse tour. It's absolutely amazing. Cigars, coffee, scenery... Amazing.

Palenque de los Cimarrones is a Cuban cave club that offers a unique experience of drinks, dancing, and history. The caves served as an escape for slaves and now host a weekly performance on Saturday nights. Visitors can also take a short walk through the caves to explore a reenactment of a slave encampment, followed by a scenic ride back to the car park in the Vinsles countryside.
Cuba is a country in ruins the only thing you can still rescue is the beautiful landscapes and natural areas. Everything else is so sad.

This cave is not so much impressive, ww paid for a ticket even there was no light inside. You can cross this cave in 3 minutes . I think it could live some slaves in the past. Now there is also restaurant here and some parties.

IT'S A SCAM! DON'T GO THERE! We went there after the visit to the Cueva de lo Indio which is indeed very beautiful. This place instead not only is non sense - the cave is not that beautiful and there is just a fake village which is instead a restaurant and a tobacco place created to sell other stuff to tourists - but they also tried to steal money: we paid to the cashier the tour and went to have a walk. Other guys who were in our same group decided instead to have a drink there. When they were about to leave the owner told them to pay also our ticket because we didn't pay. They paid the tickets and came to us to tell the story, so we went there and told them we were about to call they police. At that point, they gave the money back and invented there were too many tourists and the cashier didn't recognize us (there were only 6 tourists including the two of us and the other couple who paid twice!). This happened because no ticket was provided and therefore probably nothing is legal there. So avoid this place please!

Excellent salsa party with locals on Saturday. They charge tourists differently, but overall cheap drinks.

The Vinales Botanical Garden is a small yet charming garden featuring a variety of Cuban plants, including trees, flowers, and tropical fruit. Despite its humble appearance, it offers an extravagant experience for visitors. Located in the center of town, this free attraction welcomes donations and is well-maintained by friendly guides who are knowledgeable in multiple languages. The garden's historic significance adds to its appeal, with an array of flowering plants and trees to explore.
Very nice garden with lots of plants and tress, some very old and impressive. You can have a tour of the place and then leave a donation. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. This is the kind of place I wish I'd see more of in Cuba, as it has so much diverse nature. The food cost 10€ pp at the time we visited. It was real delicious comida criolla at generous amounts. We loved everything

We visited in May and had a guided tour from a very multilingual young man. His knowledge and passion was fantastic and it made the visit far more interesting, otherwise we would have been in and out in ten minutes. The tour probably lasted about an hour but that because I kept asking lots of questions! I can't remember how much we paid but it was definitely worth it.
Tom L — Google review
We had an amazing tour from Carlos, who told us all about the history of the botanical gardens and the different plants there. Would really recommend this experience if you’re visiting Viñales!

Thank you to our tour guide (Javier?) for his informative talk, we loved visiting this garden for a small donation of pesos. If I could rate the mosquitoes 1 star I would, but this is a lovely little place.

The best experience we had in the town limits of Vinales. The guides were friendly, well versed and spoke Spanish, English, French, some Italian, German, and more. The garden had a lovely range of local flora and was well kept. It was all completely free; donations were well in order, however. Great for young and old, garden fanatics and indoor people– any way you look at it it was a great way to spend a morning or afternoon.
H. F — Google review
A local garden that has truly outgrown the family that started it. Now donation based tours walk through on bunches with guides explaining what the local vegetation is and can be used for. At the end they even offered a local fruit to try.
Lance G — Google review
A historic botanic garden at the end of the High Street in the town of Viñales. Lots of flowering plants and trees, despite some damage from the hurricane in September 2022. There is no entrance fee but a donation is helpful for the upkeep. We hoped to see hummingbirds but unfortunately didn't, however we were lucky to see Turkey vultures which seem to roost in the trees over night. A good place to spend an hour!

The Indian Cave is a popular tourist attraction in Vinales featuring a small cave with walkways and an underground river. It is well-maintained and offers a one-directional trail through the mountain, with the first half being a walk and the second half via boat ride. The experience costs 150 CUP for tourists and 75 CUP for locals. Visitors can also enjoy other nearby sites such as Murales de la Prehistoria and Jazmines Hotel viewpoint.
A nice cave where you can take a boat ride. An interesting sight. The entrance fee for tourists, according to Cuban tradition, is significantly higher than for locals.

The cave is large and has a wonderful appearance. The interior is phenomenal. The river ride through the cave was great. The ambiance itself is wonderful. Must visit.

A very interesting cave to explore in western Cuba, near Viñales. You go for about 200 meters and then take a boat to explore the cave further as it is covered with water. The depth of the water is between 2 to 7 meters, depending where you are. If you come on a tour from Havana, it is normally a part of it.
Reza N — Google review
This place reminded me of the cave at Rudy Falls in Tennessee! The only difference was this cave had a pretty cool boat ride at the end, and there wasn't a line of people coming back the opposite way like the cave in Tennessee! I also liked the little water at the end of the cave! It would have been nice if the river that is the deepest inside the cave could be followed further down the stream once it exit the cave! There is also a big waterfalls inside the cave just like the one at Rudy Falls, but it's not lit like Ruby Falls! This was a nice outing!

Fun underground caves with river. If you are not in a group it’s best to get ahead as the line underground can take 10-15 minutes. well worth the $400 peso

It was a nice short experience.Had a few drinks at the bar afterwards. Our Guide planned our arrival at the least crowded time (around 1330)and it all flowed well. It's worth your time if you are visiting the area. 10.2019 | Cueva del Indio

Nice cave! Not too long, but quite impressive. There’s a nice boat ride at the end that takes you out. Would have been nice if that ride was with an electric boat instead of a fueled (the exhaust gases aren’t too pleasant and probably not well for the cave preservation). Definitely worth the visit, not too crowded and fun.

Cayo Levisa, situated on the north coast of Pinar del Rio, is a picturesque small island known for its stunning white-sand beaches and excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities. This idyllic destination has attracted tourists since Ernest Hemingway discovered it in the 1940s. Visitors can access the island by a short boat ride from Palma Rubia, enjoying the bright Cuban sun and vibrant blue waters along the way.
Lovely beach with limited access by the ferry (1 per day) so it's pleasantly quiet. Separation of zones between the hotel guests and the day trip tourists. Buffet for day trip tourist was ok. If you book the day trip from vinales with buffet lunch is 47 CUC per person. You could also choose a "lunch box" instead with around 33 CUC.

Beach is beautiful, lovely water. But to get here you have to get a ferry which is 35 CUC pp (35$ each approx) you get a nice lunch and a water or soft drink. You can spend the day here but it is expensive better stay in an airbnb nearby 10 min walk from the port (we stayed in villa gustavo y mary and it was ace!)

The Beach is great. Unfortunaltely the rooms are not as clean as expected and some of the facilities are decayed. I did not expect luxury rooms as in USA or Europe, but a clean floor, mold free rooms and clean towels is a minimum requirement to get good review. Despite the negative things the place is good to relax for a few days.

Beautiful beach and 'mangrove', dull food but choice is available, amazing walk to the punta arenas beach. The room's quality vary enormously from one to the other. The first one we got was smelling bad and looked very old. They changed it for a much nicer one when we asked. They have a broad range of activities which are not available every day (due to weather) so keep it in mind and do the ones you fancy as soon as possible.

We took day trip from Vinales for 39 CUC/per person(bus+boat+ packed lunch) it was worth it. Great beach, much more relaxed and chilled comparing to Cayo Jutias. Beach chairs included in the price

"The Soroa Waterfall"

National park

Waterfalls
The Soroa waterfall, also known as "El Salto de Soroa," is a stunning natural attraction located in the town of Soroa, Pinar del Rio province. Nestled in the southern slope of the Sierra Rosary within the Guaniguanico mountain range, this picturesque waterfall descends from an altitude of about 200 meters with a drop height of 30 meters, creating the River Springs or Rainbow of Cuba.
Beautiful waterfall, and scenery...make sure you wear swimming shoes the rocks are slippery.
Light N — Google review
The Soroa Waterfall is a truly beautiful spot, surrounded by lush nature and a calm, relaxing environment. When I visited, the place was almost empty, which made the experience even more peaceful and enjoyable. The sound of the water and the scenery make it a perfect place to disconnect and appreciate nature. That being said, the walk from the road to the waterfall takes about 20–25 minutes, and the path is not in great condition. It has steep ups and downs, uneven steps, and areas that could be unsafe, especially for elderly visitors, children, or anyone with mobility difficulties. Improving and securing the trail would make the waterfall more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Overall, it’s a stunning natural attraction that is worth visiting, but there’s definitely room for improvement in the infrastructure.

Great place for an afternoon walk. You can even jump on the river to cool off. We visited in December and it was very quiet.
Adam K — Google review
The landscape is absolutely amazing, the vegetation, mountains, rocks etc. You can even see some birds, some rarer then others, The river is beautiful, as is the whole area. But do not expect so much from the waterfall, it's not so big or imposing. Still worth the time spend and the quite big walk, in high humidity and temperatures! We went in July....
Joao P — Google review
This waterfall can be reached by road and thereafter it is a short walk up to reach the different levels of lakes and falls. It is a nice relaxing place, and many people take a dip in the pools, although the water is rather fresh. To reach the Soroa falls, the short toad from Trinidad to the falls is closed, unfortunately. This means a long round away route needs to be taken to get to the falls
Ewald H — Google review
Just a short walk takes you to Majestic little waterfall. The spot is enjoyed by both the locals, and tourist a like. Long the hike you will find bars to buy both alcohol and food. There is a small fee to enter the waterfall area.
Jessica D — Google review
In April/May the waterfall had not so much to see because in dry season not that much water. But this lovely natural location is being spoiled by locals playing loud music, organizing BBQ. It is more a picnic area then a touristic sight seeing

Visitors can cool off and swim in the clear, crisp waters of the river. The park also features treehouses for overnight stays and camping options along hiking trails. Additionally, there are natural stone tables along the river banks where visitors can enjoy a meal.
A river and nature park adventure. Natural rock formations with slides, grottos, and rushing mini waterfalls made this natural site a wonderland to cool off and go for a swim. It was after the season, so we had found a pool to ourselves. Fusterlandia, located in Havana's Jaimanitas neighborhood, is a vibrant and whimsical public art installation created by local artist José Fuster. Often referred to as the 'Picasso of the Caribbean,' Fuster has adorned the area with colorful mosaics, sculptures, and paintings that depict snapshots of Cuban culture and history. The neighborhood is characterized by its naive art style, featuring almost cartoonish images that showcase everyday life and historical events of the Cuban Revolution.
Such a cool little homage to Gaudi! ~20-30 minutes west of Havana - must come and check out the amazing tiles and artwork all around this area. You can also go into little shops where folks are painting or making souvenirs. We stopped here on the way to Vinales, but you can use the Hop-on-off bus route 2. There is a 100 CUP entry per person.
Lutz S — Google review
Certainly worth a visit if you are interested in art. You can like this kind of “Cuban Picasso” art, but you don't have to. The vendors outside and the typical Cuban “pay to pee” are a little annoying. Plan 30 to 45 minutes for the look around. Definitely a nice change of pace.
Lobo F — Google review
An interesting part of Havana, just 30 minutes from the city center. It is very interestingly done, with a lot of various details. The ticket is only 100 Cuban pesos. A lot of small shops are also located here for the purchase of various souvenirs, paintings, sculptures.
Aleksandra N — Google review
Is it worth visiting? Yes it is . The validity of Picasso and Antoni Gaudi in the west part of Havana is extraordinary. For a hint, head west from the central park of Havana to the seemingly low-key district of Jaimanitas, where artist José Fuster has turned his birthplace and his neighborhood into a masterpiece of intricate tile work and kaleidoscopic colors . It looks a lot like Güell Park in Barcelona. He has embraced the environment and has made it his. Thanks for that...

Went here in 2019 as a part of a excursion tour and it was an amazing experience. I loved the art, the culture and everyone that we encountered were welcoming. My friend and I stopped to have some Cuban coffee at a shop set up in the middle of it. Great experience!

Cuban Art Factory, also known as F.A.C., is a contemporary cultural center located in Havana. The venue is popular among both locals and tourists, offering a diverse range of activities such as theater, jazz, contemporary dance, and more.
A very unique space that I recommend visitors check out in Havana. Art installations, music, dancing and multiple bars make for a special experience traveling through the rooms and courtyards. We were only there for a few hours and feel like we barely scratched the surface of what it has to offer. It was truly a memorable time however and I hope to return on my next visit to Havana!

Cuban Art Factory is an inspiring and vibrant place to explore local creativity. The space is filled with colorful artworks, from paintings and sculptures to unique handmade crafts, and every corner has something eye-catching. I loved chatting with the artists, who were passionate and eager to share the stories behind their creations. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, making it easy to spend hours wandering and discovering hidden gems. It’s the perfect spot to take home a piece of authentic Cuban art and soak in the energy of the local art scene.

Interesting place with mixture of an art gallery on multiple different levels, multiple bars, live dance shows, DJs, restaurant and much more. At the time we were there, there was a hip hop breakdance performance where you could join in and get involved with the dancing. The restaurant offered a variety of foods and desserts. Entry was $3 USD. You would get stamped for every drink that you have and then you can pay altogether at the end. Be mindful of the taxi drivers outside, many of them will offer to drive you at very expensive prices, so make sure you negotiate or use a ride share app.

This place was so cool! What an awesome idea. Entry is minimal and you receive a ticket that records all your food and beverage at the various stations which are scattered throughout the venue. Lots of little garden areas with seating for gathering. Inside the warehouses are different art installations and various musical performances. The night we went we heard a range from reggae to rock to a phenomenal acapella performance. Drinks and food were great and one of the most memorable things was that everyone was nice. Not like a club filled with annoying people who are rude, bumping in to you, or servers who are frazzled and don't seem to want to be there. Both workers AND patrons were friendly. I know it's an odd thing to point but it was just such a nice experience. We didn't stay terribly late, maybe it worse late at night. Lol It would be a real shame to have traveled all the way to Cuba and not visited this amazing establishment. It was one of our most memorable experiences!

Revolution Square is a significant site in Havana, Cuba, known for its vast plaza and as the location of many presidential addresses. It features monuments dedicated to Cuban revolutionary heroes. The square holds historical significance as it was the central location for many branches of the regime's government and showcases artwork honoring notable Cubans involved in the revolution. The area has deep political ties and serves as a reminder that Castro's Cuba is still very much alive.
Revolution Square (Plaza de la Revolución) is a place filled with history and significance. Standing in such an iconic location, surrounded by monumental buildings and the famous images of Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos, really brings the history of Cuba to life. However, be prepared for the intense heat if you visit during the day. The square is vast and mostly uncovered, so the sun can be quite harsh. I recommend bringing water, a hat, and sunscreen to stay comfortable while taking in the powerful atmosphere of this historic site.

Revolution Square has great historical significance. Here you can see the image of Chegevara and the image of Chienfuegos on two different buildings. It is very spacious, in fact, there are no additional activities. But it is recommended to visit.

Revolution Square is a primary location to visit when you travel to Havana. It's got a huge space with a monument on the northern side. The wall murals of Che and Camilo are on the opposite side of the square. It is said that in the middle of the square, in the empty area, a million people can fit standing.

Massive square which want to celebrate the greatness of Cuba. There are several points of interest such as the monument to Jose Martin, considered the real father of Cuban people’s power. The wall to Camillo Cinfuegos and to Ernesto Che Guevara. The square has been gathered more than one million people during the speeches of Fidel Castro and also during the visit of Popes John Paul II in 1998 and Francis In 2015. Cristóbal Colón Cemetery, named after Christopher Columbus, is a vast 56-hectare cemetery in Havana, Cuba. It houses around 1 million graves and features ornately designed mausoleums and memorials made of bronze, marble, and granite. The cemetery is not only the final resting place for many famous Cuban artists and luminaries but also a significant historical and cultural site.
A bit outside of Havana. Worth visiting, provokes reflection. Several pieces of fabulous architecture.
Hopperado — Google review
Anyone interested in architecture and history should pay a visit to the cemetery. We spent around 3 hours there. Is that morbid? An impressive place. Unfortunately, the outside areas are not really looked after and a lot is destroyed.
Lobo F — Google review
An exceptional, haunting place far from the maddening crowds - essential deserted, just you and the dead. Extraordinary mausoleums, if many under-maintained. At 200 pesos, the entrance fee is ludicrously low for the experience. Consider tipping the under-paid reception staff as compensation!
Dirk K — Google review
It is actually one of the most famous cemeteries in Old Havana. It houses 17 fireman that died in the fire of 1890. There's a few other historical folks that are buried at the same location including Cuban Legend Alberto Yarini. (Google him) They charge $100 CUP (¢.50 USD) for Non-Cubans to visitors
Josue P — Google review
In terms of history and architecture, this is one of the most remarkable cemeteries in the world. Necropolis de Colon is a reflection of the political, social and economic turmoil that has plagued the Cuba capital for the past 60 years. The main entrance Gate is an ornate, Romanesque triple arch symbolizing the Holy Trinity. The symmetrical plan by Spanish architect Calixto de Loira is laid out along two axes suggesting a crucifix, with the most impressive monuments and mausoleums built along the main road. What makes this Havana cemetery on of the most important in Latin America is its funerary monuments, sculptures and mausoleums that create a sort of open air museum. The varied architectural style of the graves - are a feast for the eyes, and the history of Havana as told through its buried citizens is absolutely fascinating.
Russ L — Google review
We were able to see the cemetery via a local taxi tour, this was one of our first stops. Only having to pay around 5 cuc per person it was a steal considering the massive walking grounds of the cemetery. We saw tombs and graves of all sizes and shapes, the history contained within the walls were extraordinary and I would love to have heard some of the stories. Be advised that the church is still used today, we happened to pass during a funeral, so keep that in mind and be respectful.

Plaza de la Catedral, located in Old Havana, is the original city center close to the bay. It features baroque and neoclassical buildings along narrow cobblestone streets, including landmarks like the City Museum, Havana Cathedral, La Fuerza Fortress, and El Templete. The plaza is bustling with museums, bars, restaurants, and food stands.
This is a must see in Havana city,Cuba. One of the oldest places with the most history in Cuba. The surrounding areas are very beautiful as well and very clean. It has been a while since my last visit and can see that the state has done a lot of work keeping up the Old Havana alive.

Beautiful plaza in Havana in front of the cathedral de la Virgen Maria. Nice place to take pictures and visit one many churches in the area. The architecture has been well preserved. This is a touristic place so it is very safe but can be crowded depending on the time of visit.
Oliver — Google review
This a big square right around the Cathedral of Havana. It is best to go early in the morning, when there are not many people. There are a few men who just want to impose their classic cars rides. Other than that, you can relax and explore the area.
Reza N — Google review
One of the best landmarks in old Havana. Beautiful old cathedral. You can find Old women dressed in traditional clothes that are diviners sitting right next to the Chatedral. It also worth going inside, there no waiting or lines, the entrance is also free. But be respectful and beware that there might be Mass at the time of your visit.
Jean S — Google review
Beautiful plaza. The main cathedral is gorgeous as well although it's not open to tourists, at least not during my visit. A couple of museums nearby and restaurants as well. A bit pricey just to keep in mind since you'll be paying in CUC as a tourist.

Great Plaza. Gives you a medieval feeling. Also the Cathedral is very impressive from the inside, just like Italian Cathedrals!

A must see in Habana. One of the best architectural samples of the Cuban Heritage. The sunlight turn the colour of the stone and the finishings in a super realistic image. You will be back in time in the age of conquisitadores. Authentic experience, do not miss this spot!

Old Town Square

Old Town Square, also known as Plaza Vieja, is a historic public square in Havana that dates back to 1559. The square features a beautiful fountain and is surrounded by buildings representing various architectural styles from baroque to art nouveau. Once the site of gory public spectacles including executions, it has now transformed into a vibrant and colorful space.
A very nice square, especially during the day. There are always some events taking place here. Many restaurants and cafes are located here. Because they are located in this square, the prices are not that affordable. The fountain is located in the middle of the square, as well as other sculptures. The evening is also very nice, music, dancing, just to enjoy.
Aleksandra N — Google review
This is probably one of the mostly visited public squares of Havana. There are a number of art installations which give the place an artistic feeling.
Reza N — Google review
A wonderful place to be during the day; a nightmare at night if you’re living right next to it! People don’t sleep, once the music is done late at night, drunk people start fighting and dogs start barking! Lots is going on this place 😓 though I like the day vibes and architecture of this square.
Hanan Y — Google review
Driving an antique car, listening to Habana music and taking a stroll through the old town of Habana is definitely a life enjoyment.

Fabulous place to see. Don’t say your name to the guitar players and use Eddy for your tour guide
Tropheus G — Google review
Plaza Vieja is one of the most beautiful and lively squares in Havana, surrounded by stunning colonial buildings and filled with vibrant cafes, restaurants, and art galleries. The architecture is impressive, and there’s a lot to explore in the area. However, be mindful of the sun, especially during midday. The square has limited shade, so it can get quite hot. I recommend visiting in the morning or late afternoon, and be sure to bring a hat, sunscreen, and water to stay comfortable. Despite the heat, it’s a must-visit spot to soak in the atmosphere of Old Habana
Josep V — Google review
Beautiful plaza with colonial style buildings surrounding the plaza and brick paved. There are several restaurants and bars in and around the plaza definitely a must visit. You can see the buildings and surroundings have been beautifully renovated. Just beware of the usual scams and beggars that may approach you.
R F — Google review
This is described as a visual feast, showcasing a blend of architectural styles baroque to Art Nouveau, each with its unique character. Some have stained-glass windows and arched structures and along with this being the main Havana Square makes it a great place. However in the past it witnessed public events like executions, processions, and bullfights. Unfortunately some of the more iconic features were abolished apparently in the late 1930’s. Plus, this is one of the main places to get wifi connections in the weird way to access the internet in Cuba.

Plaza de San Francisco de Asís is a charming open cobblestone plaza located near the harbor in Havana. It is part of a route that includes other main squares like Plaza Vieja, Plaza de Armas, and Plaza de la Catedral. The plaza features the Fuente de los Leones fountain and offers a salty air breeze.
This plaza is one of several city squares which is ancient, containing traditional buildings and museums of Havana city. It must be one of the destinations during the tour in the city.

Beautiful plaza in Havana beside the St Francisco de Asis Basilica. It’s a very nice place to take pictures for weddings. The architecture is very beautiful all around. This is another touristic place with seeing and exploring.

This is another one of the many beautiful Plazas in downtown Havana, with a number of very interesting art installations. Lots of cafés are in the area.

Our tour guide for the Havana trip recommended to see Havana by horse and buggy as my husband uses a cane and walking tours wouldn't be a great idea. We got to see alot of new and old Havana real life. We visited John Lennons bar for those who grew up with the Beatles music very interesting will all the Beatles music

A plaza surrounded by gorgeous heritage buildings. It's next to a modern road, a great starting point for a walk to the old town that is vehicle-free.

Plaza de San Francisco de Asís Square was built facing Havana port in the 16th century. That time Spanish galleons would stop here on their way through the Indies to Spain.  Here you can find a lot of pleasant cafes and restaurants and definetely it is one of the most interesting squares in the city.
Paweł — Google review
One of Havanas most popular open squares, located just across from the cruise ship terminal. There is plenty to see. From the old Cathederal, the Fountain of Lions, surrounding architecture or an ourdoor cafe this is a great place to begin your Cuban adventure!
Moto R — Google review
This is one of the most touristy plazas in Havana as it is right next to the cruise terminal. You will see lots of tours being offered, it is a good starting point for exploring Havana. Beautiful church located to many other churches and points of interest. Come here in the early morning and you will have the place to yourself!

Santa Maria del Mar is a vibrant and trendy beach located about 12 miles from downtown Havana. It offers shallow waters for swimming, rental chairs and umbrellas, as well as a food and cocktail menu. The beach extends for approximately 4km with golden sands backed by grassland and palm trees. While it can be lively during the day, it becomes more boisterous after dark with beach parties. For families, taking a taxi is recommended over using the bus to reach the beach.
Paradise beach with crystal clear water and fine sand. The beach is located in East Havana, just a 30-40 minute ride from Havana's center. It is a local beach so on weekends it could be a little busy but on weekdays it is almost empty. Some sellers offer drinks and food. Overall, you will have a nice experience 😎
Jss'Luis — Google review
Beautiful beach, crystal blue sea. The sand is fine, the beach is neat, and the sunny furniture is not expensive. You can also drink and eat something on the beach. Real enjoyment.
Aleksandra N — Google review
Love this beach! Very quiet. Cabanas aren’t too expensive to rent. The service is great and the drinks were the strongest I had while in Cuba.
Florantine J — Google review
A very beautiful beach full of friendly vendors!!! Highly recommended
Sauce L — Google review
The guys that work there are attentive. You can rent chairs and umbrellas for 2 cuc. You also order food and they'll bring it right to you on the beach. The food itself was excellent albeit a little pricey. The first few feet in the water is sandy but after that it almost becomes like concrete and is very hard and rough. A nice beach all the same.
Larry G — Google review
Went here for our last day in Cuba it was a pretty windy day but it was very hot! It was my first time seeing, hearing and touching the sea! (Very salty indeed lol) The sea made me feel better and relaxed. Melted away all my stress and worries. I love that I had the opportunity to play with the waves and feel like me again. The sun can really kiss your skin! My friend and I ordered a wonderful fish plate with rice and salad, and 2 bottles of water ($7,500cup in total) and coconut drinks (one with rum ($350cup), and one without rum ($300cup)) it was great I felt like I was at a Jamaican event but really and truly I'm at the beach in Cuba! I would love to come back to this beach again but this time with my family! 30min. from the hotel we're staying at but it was well worth it! It was a legit icing on top! Beach chairs are $100cup each, and umbrellas are $100cup each.
Quinnie — Google review
The water was stunning and the food was delicious! Santa Maria del Mar is about 20 minutes from Old Havana - a quick getaway from the city. The beach was not crowded. We rented an umbrella and chairs. We really had fun enjoying the beach, great sunny day, and friendly people.
Osman G — Google review
Went here way before the pandemic and I really enjoyed our trip here! Coming to Havana, Cuba and visiting the beach? Why not! Santa Maria Del Mar will be the perfect choice for you, beach lovers. My colleague and I really loved it when we got a chance to come and visit Playa Santa Maria del Mar. We booked the cool, pink taxi to take us here from our NH hotel in Havana. It took us around 45 minutes drive along the legendary route of Maleçon overlooking the coast of Havana. We really had fun enjoying the beach, great sunny day, and friendly people. When we arrived, it was around 11 and not many people were there. But we managed to enjoy fresh coconut water, playing around in the shallow beach, get ourselves cool hats and take tons of pictures. The beach is clean and you can rent the beach lounge and the umbrella lining on the shore. I forget how much the trip cost but I guess it was around USD 100 for both of us and the taxi took us back to the city and dropped us at the Museum of the Revolution, Museo de la Revolucion. And the last surprise that I love from our trip to the beach is the purple vintage car I saw parking there on the beach! Super cute indeed! Make sure you bring your change when you want to dip in the water. I didn't use the toilet but I saw toilet and showers nearby. If you want to buy or order something, make sure you ask the price first and clearly. I really had fun there and although we didn't really stay for too long, it was a lovely trip!

Playas del Este is a beautiful beach with 24-hour guard surveillance, ensuring safety for visitors. While not completely pristine, it is far from being a garbage dump. The convenience of nearby hotels and the option to reach the beach from Havana by car in under an hour make it an accessible destination for a day trip or longer stay.

The Puente de Bacunayagua is an engineering marvel that spans a lush, tree-filled gorge, making it a must-visit for anyone traveling between Havana and Matanzas. Completed in just two years during the mid-20th century, this impressive structure boasts 41 towering columns that rise over 100 meters high and stretches more than 300 meters in length.
The view was incredible, and was just a pleasure to enjoy. Stopped there on our way to Havana, from Varadero. Super cool, would definitely recommend.

Breathtaking views from the top. Tallest bridge in Cuba; one of the wonders of Cuban Civil Engineering. There is a small restaurant that has washrooms and other shops where you can purchase souvenirs. They offer piña coladas made with real pineapples ($5 CAD/ USD for 1).
