Museum of the Mummies of Guanajuato

Specialty Museums
The Museum of the Mummies of Guanajuato is a popular attraction that displays over 100 mummified bodies, accompanied by an informative video. These naturally preserved remains date back to the mid-19th century when locals succumbed to a cholera outbreak. The museum's origins stem from cemetery staff exhuming bodies between 1865 and 1958 due to unpaid taxes, subsequently charging visitors for viewing.
Great museum, been here when I was kid and now as an adult. Very neat to see and understand. Parking is 18 pesos an hour. We spent an hour with even using the rest room and grabbing a snack.
Linda D — Google review
I was surprised by this museum! 😱 There were so many different mummies. And some bad stories, too! They have the YOUNGEST mummy in the world, a 6-month old fetus mummy! 😱 And the stories are in English & Spanish! 🙏🏼 I wish there were English tours available. Or headset to listen to stories... Or QR codes to read more about the stories.. that would be nice.. No bathrooms inside 😔 Pay bathrooms outside.
Ali N — Google review
Now you see kids, this is what happens when you don't pay your bills! Pretty interesting but pretty creepy too. Beats the Egyptian mummy museums hands down. We were there in mid-May and walked there from the funicular. A long hill on the last part but not bad.
KARL H — Google review
I loved this mummy—honestly, it fascinated me on so many levels. When I first walked into the museum, there was a noticeable scent. Not a creepy or unpleasant one, but something strangely familiar… earthy, maybe? It felt like the scent of time itself. What the staff didn’t mention was that my 106-peso ticket only allowed access to the basic exhibit. I didn’t realize this until I was about to leave and noticed there were other areas I couldn’t enter. That part was a bit disappointing—so make sure you buy the full ticket if you go. The tour guides spoke only Spanish, so I didn’t understand much at the time. But once I got home and did my research, everything clicked. These mummies are completely natural. No embalming. No rituals. They were discovered when the government exhumed bodies due to unpaid burial taxes—and shockingly, many were perfectly preserved by the dry conditions and the unique soil. The first mummy ever found was a priest, which is why he’s quite famous here. But the most heart-wrenching and iconic is the six-month-old baby mummy. The baby was found still in its mother’s arms—most likely both died during childbirth. That image really stuck with me. What struck me most was how this baby, who would’ve been seen as a symbol of the divine, ended up buried without breath, sealed in sawdust, only to survive time as a mummy. It’s philosophical. It’s poetic. And no, it’s not scary at all. These mummies are oddly endearing. Almost gentle in the way they speak to mortality. Later, while walking through the local market, I saw some sweet potatoes and tree roots in the same earthy tones as the mummies. Everything started to feel connected—like nature, death, time, and even snacks are speaking in the same color palette. Wild, right? So if you’re visiting Guanajuato: 💀 Don’t skip the mummy museum. 🎟️ Buy the full ticket. 📚 Read up afterward if you don’t speak Spanish. 😌 And if you’re scared—honestly, don’t be. These mummies aren’t scary. They’re full of stories and quiet wisdom. If you’re too afraid… maybe it’s best not to come. But if you’re curious, it’s absolutely worth it.
Vivi C — Google review
Glad I read the reviews beforehand so I knew what to expect. GO DIRECTLY TO THE MUSEUM PARKING. Be prepared to pay extra if using a card. Went in the morning. Hardly anyone was there besides random people (4+) trying AGRESSEVELY to hawk super inflated items in the parking lot. The exhibits were nice enough, but not very informative. Maybe 15 of the mummies actually had an explanation of their origins. Didn't pay extra for the fancier exhibits though. The gift shop had a decent selection, but also inflated prices. $230 pesos for a T shirt when other vendors are selling for around $150. All in all if you're in the area it's a fine museum, but I wouldn't make this the sole reason to visit GTO.
Israel S — Google review
Arrived around 2pm on a Sunday. Waited for ticket and entry for about 45 minutes. 120 pesos for the main exhibit and the extra room. They bring you in in groups, but they don't pay attention to how many people have left before letting more people in, so the museum gets so packed that you literally cannot walk to see the exhibits until your group moves to the next room. By the time your group moves to the next room, the group or 2 behind you are already filling up that room so it's packed again. I think this was because my group was offered a free guide, so they stayed in each room longer to listen to his information. But I wanted to also see the mummies, so I eventually waited for my group to go a few rooms ahead and by the time I was maybe 3 or 4 groups behind and the guide was nowhere in sight, finally there was room to walk and see the mummies. Very bad organization! The mummies themselves are cool and the extra room was nice and quicker to walk through without the crowds. Took about 45 minutes to walk through the entire museum, with being stuck waiting for the crowds to move for 5+ minutes in each room. I think if you go earlier or maybe on a weekday, you'd have less chance of a crowd. I also think being in a group with a free guide was not good with such a large group.
Maddi P — Google review
The most expensive museum I visited in Guanajuato and the most interesting/disappointing as well. When you enter the first room, it is very cool seeing the mummies and how well preserved they are and learning about how some of them died. Then you walk into another room...and same thing. Then another room with the same. Then another room with the same....you get the idea... Also they say to try and be quiet but the tour guy is shouting loudly and people are talking on the phones etc. Bottom line - interesting but basic exhibit and poorly organized. Tickets were 106 pesos for adults.
Johnny L — Google review
First time visiting. Very interesting. Worth the trip. A long line on Sunday, super crowded and a long wait to purchase tickets and enter. Group tours led by a guide. Too many people to fit in each salon and it was hard to hear the guide. Also, as a non native speaker it was extremely difficult to understand all the complex aspects of the tour/museum/mummies. However it was still very interesting and memorable.

Simply amazing church. Reminded me a bit of La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Numerous photo ops around the plaza. Lots of people lots of fun!

Just a beautiful parroquia (cathedral) to see in San Miguel de Allende. You don’t have to be catholic to appreciate the beauty and design of this church. You’ll see it from all around town. It’s the center of town for a reason and admired and appreciated by all her residents. Highly recommend.

Simply breathtaking church, With such rich history. Day or night its a spectacle. So many shops, delicious eateries and music in the area. Loved every minute. Felt safe the entire time. Wear comfortable, rubber sole or traction shoes because the terrain (cobblestone) is rough outside of the plaza.

Beautiful church poised on the land of the Jardin Allende, serving as the focal point for San Miguel de Allende. Come and visit, sit in the park, visit one of the cafecitos or restaurants, and take some time out of your life.

Peña de Bernal is a breathtaking monolith that rises 350 meters high, offering visitors an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the enchanting town of Bernal, this site features a charming chapel perched near its summit, accessible via a scenic hike. For those traveling from Queretaro, taking the bus is a convenient option; it departs hourly and takes about an hour and fifteen minutes to reach this magical destination. However, be prepared for some waiting as buses leave only when full.
Amazing, I just loved hiking here. Beautiful landscape and weather, the environment was perfect to enjoy the full day
Stefy G — Google review
A fee will be collected at the parking lot at the foot of the mountain. The overall view is inspirational and breathtaking. Take a hike if you have enough time. The best way to get there is to hire a taxi all the to the foot of the mountain, it will cost about 1000 pesos round trip.
John Y — Google review
The town is wonderful. Now about the hike to the mountain: the tourist entry from the town side cost 30 pesos, but they never give you any information. Like : sorry, the top is closed today. This side of the mountain is private. Yes, unlike Europe or the usa, people here in Mexico get to own mountains, lakes, rivers… all of it and then monetize it. If you want to enjoy the nature like civilized people do, you need to pay for it and then abide the stupid rules. Yes, there are plenty of those. I highly suggest you enter the mountain from the west side, from the camping grounds- it’s free and the hike is much more scenic . Good luck! 👍

Museums
The Museo Nacional de Antropología is a must-visit destination for anyone intrigued by the rich tapestry of Mexico's ancient civilizations. As the largest and most frequented museum in the country, it boasts an impressive collection that spans from the Olmecs to the Maya, showcasing artifacts that date back to these remarkable cultures. The museum's striking modern architecture serves as a fitting introduction to its treasures housed within 22 thoughtfully curated rooms.
This was definitely one of the best museums I’ve ever been to. It was a really fantastic activity that me and my friends are able to go to where we got the chance to learn about their history and culture… The museum was bigger than I expected it to be with different sections and we enjoyed every bit of it. The collections were so amazing… from Aztec, to Mayan, to Teotihuacan… amazing artifacts to stand infront of. We unfortunately went before it was about to close, but I definitely plan on coming back to this museum next time I’m back in Mexico City so that I can explore everything here further than I was able to this time. We highly recommend that everyone goes to this museum during their visit to Mexico City

Museo Nacional de Antropología – CDMX 🇲🇽 ⭐ Rating: 10/10 An absolute must-visit in Mexico City — this museum is a true national treasure. 🏛️ From the moment you step in, you’re surrounded by the rich history and culture of Mexico, with incredible exhibitions ranging from Mayan and Aztec civilizations to fascinating artifacts from indigenous cultures across the country. The architecture is breathtaking, especially the iconic central courtyard with the massive waterfall pillar — it’s one of those places that leaves a lasting impression. The displays are beautifully curated, and you can easily spend half a day or more exploring without getting bored. 💡 Tip: Go early, wear comfy shoes, and don’t miss the Aztec Sun Stone — it’s even more impressive in person. #CDMX #MuseoDeAntropologia #MexicoCulture #MustVisit #HistoryLovers

The Building is so incredibly ugly, but the exhibition is absolutely fantastic. It’s a shame that there is not much description next to the most famous artefacts., however you can always use Claude to get an explanation of what you have just seen. Do you go to the upper floor where no one is to get some rest and sit down while you hop from civilisation to civilisation. Surprisingly, The Restaurant that is inside the Museum is not bad at all, and not even with expensive. I suggest you do take a break because there is so much to see, and it’s better still to have some energy to see them all in one day
Alessandro T — Google review
Wow this place is massive! This is a two level, U-shaped museum offering thousands of unique historical finds from all over Mexico. They also have foreign exhibits seasonally. You start on one end, work your way through the halls, and end up at the end of the building. Plan on spending at least 2-3 hours exploring all the great things to see. There is a little park and courtyard right outside where you can grab a quick snack before going in.
A. M — Google review
We booked the "Amigo" guided tour and were helped by this awesome Leonardo dude. This is such a great experience where we learned so much about the amazing history of Mexico, about its culture and traditions, and it's definitely a blast! Would absolutely recommend this museum, this guided tour, and Leonardo the perfecto, to everyone who's interested.
Yanan L — Google review
Plethora of various artefacts from pre-hispanic civilazations of Mesoamerica and i guess that is what most if us come to Mexico for. You will find them here. Not sure why some descriptions are in spanish only though. Also during my visit some of the outdoor areas were closed. I've been twice here, and not sure why but there was a day with free entrance.
Mike — Google review
By far a must see while in Mexico City. It’s a vast museum, so give yourself a whole day because there are multiple buildings and floors. But we found it to be exceptional and worth it. We also took a break halfway through and enjoyed an amazing lunch at the museum restaurant. Wear your comfortable walking shoes and take as many pics as you can!
Melissa M — Google review
What a complex! We took the Turismo bus (yes, they are wheelchair accessible!) to it, and lo and behold we didn't need our portable ramp to get around this huge set of museums. We tried to hit all the major parts of the museum, but you really need to take more than one day to grasp the full scale of the place. And for essentially $5 US dollars per person, it's pretty much a steal! As you can see, we mostly stuck to the sections with older artifacts, basically triaging our time so we could get the most out of it. The wheelchair accessibility is pretty good, save for the back of buildings that led out into gardens and a tomb replica. As for getting something to eat, there are vendors strung along in a row right in front of the main entrance plaza, and the food is cheap and delicious. Sit and eat in the adjoining park area and enjoy dogs and children playing in the fountains. And of course, last but not least, there is a gift shop, where you can buy all sorts of books and other items to take home with you.

Since 1939, it has housed an impressive collection of relics including Aztec sculptures, casta paintings, and even President Santa Anna's fake leg.
Wonderful museum that provides lots of history of Mexico. The walk up the hill to the castle is a little long, so just be sure to wear some comfortable shoes to make the trek. There’s also some great views of the city from the castle.

This is one additional beautiful part of Mexico City ! It is a MUST visit ! No 2 ways about it. There are 2 lineups at the ticket office.1 for cash and 1 for card. The card lineup was shorter so we had a two minute wait there and the lady that gave us. Our tickets took one look at us in with all our gray hair and wrinkles. Gave us a free admission for old farts. Lol. Getting an order does have its advantages. It’s a slow steady walk up a gradual incline before reaching this thing of beauty. This is where they stamp your ticket. There is only a few people ahead of us. It was around noon on a Friday afternoon. When we left, there were a lot more people, but still the line was moving fairly quickly. We spent a few hours roaming around through this magnificent structure with its beautiful displays and wonderful gardens.
Paul D — Google review
This is a stunning walk through a historical building filled with beautiful artwork from a few different eras . The castle itself has a few different exhibits and the living areas of the place are staged and have explanations in Spanish and English about the use of each of space. Views from the top of the castle looking down the hill are incredible and worth the hike up.
H L — Google review
Entrance was about 5USD. There was a lot of art, history, and scenery here. Easily spent a few hours here. The only con for those who may be older or with disabilities, you must walk uphill in order to arrive to the castle. There were a few cars that were able to enter, I assumed for drop off. I would look into this if needed.
Raquel M — Google review
I'm a big fan of the park surrounding the castle but found the castle itself beautiful but rigid. I had my full frame camera with me when I purchased the ticket at the ground level entrance. After walking up the hill, the xop checking tickets asked if I could remove my lens from my camera? There was a 0% chance that was happening and if this is an actual rule it should be displayed when you purchase the ticket. Everything else was without incident.
Dominick — Google review
Lovely castle to walk around. It is a 5-10min walk up to the castle so bring comfortable walking shoes. The front half of the castle exhibits are only in Spanish, but the second half of the castle had translations. Lovely walk through history of Mexico and high up viewpoint of cityscape. 100 mxn entry free for foreigners, can buy them at the door.
Jess B — Google review
Beautiful castle, home to more than 62 vireyes and presidents , a lot of home display pieces of art from that time and mexican history. Gorgeous gardens and balconies with incredible views of the park and Paseo de la Reforma angel statue. Entrance fee $100 pesos . Pictures allow, a bit of walk from main entrance to the castle about 10 minutes .Washroom available. Bad check by the entrance. Crowded most days.No water or food allowed inside. Mondays is closed. Definitely a place to see .Time to spend 3h plus to make the visit worth it.

Santa Prisca de Taxco, a church built in 1758, is an iconic landmark in the town of Taxco. Its opulent facade features elaborate Churrigueresque belfries and a simple yet elegant nave made of rose-colored stone. Inside, visitors can admire the intricately sculpted, gold-covered altarpieces. The church's baroque architecture and stunning views make it a must-visit attraction in Taxco.
One of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen. Santa Prisca sits right in the middle of Taxco and really stands out with its pink stone and incredibly detailed facade. Inside, it's just as impressive — gold everywhere, intricate carvings, and a really peaceful atmosphere despite all the activity outside. You don’t have to be religious to appreciate the craftsmanship here. It’s a quick visit but definitely a highlight of Taxco. There are also great views of the church from nearby rooftops and restaurants, especially around sunset.

Build by Jose de la Borda a prosperous miner of Taxco who became bankrupt owing to the high cost of this but later stuck silver and became even more wealthy. It is one of the best new Spanish constructions. Santa Prisca has nine floor-to-ceiling altarpieces, worked in wood and covered with gold leaf. The style of the altarpieces forms a unit with the architectural ensemble, that is, it is a sample of mid-18th century New Spanish Baroque

Stunning architecture and home to the world’s largest silver Virgin of Guadalupe Santa Prisca de Taxco is the crown jewel of Taxco. The Baroque architecture is breathtaking, with its detailed stonework and iconic twin towers making it a standout right in the center of the town. The interior is equally impressive, filled with ornate altars, intricate artwork, and a peaceful, reverent atmosphere. One of the most unique features is the solid silver statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe, said to be the largest in the world. Standing six feet tall and weighing around 380 pounds, this statue is a true reflection of Taxco’s silver heritage and a highlight of any visit. Founded in 1751, Santa Prisca holds historical and cultural significance, contributing to Taxco’s reputation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An awesome experience, combining history, architecture, craftsmanship, and spiritual importance in one unforgettable visit.

This place is amazing. The cathedral is beautiful. They have a great light show during the weekend that is worth to see.

A stunning church, somehow only built in a half a dozen years in the 1750s. There are local official tourist guides that will be glad to give you a detailed history and tour of the chapel, remember to prepare a tip for them.

What a beautiful piece of work. I have never seen any of the historic churches in Europe but I imagine they would look something like this. Took a trip up the bell tour. Got vertigo. Worth stopping into if you are there.

What a beautifully designed church. It is the heart of the town. Beautiful Inside and out. Once inside everywhere you lay eyes on you see intricate designs. The silver Virgen de Guadalupe is life size and is a testament of Taxco being the capital of silver of Mexico. I know you can ask about climbing the towers to get a view of the city, we visited while they were doing baptisms and didn’t know who to ask but if you have the chance definitely do it!

Art museum
The Palacio de Bellas Artes is a grand marble performance hall and museum in Mexico City, known for its iconic orange dome and elaborate belle epoque facade. Built in 1904 by Italian architect Adamo Boari, the structure features pre-Hispanic motifs and a mix of Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. Inside, visitors can admire murals by Diego Rivera and other renowned artists.
The Palacio de Bellas Artes is one of Mexico City’s most stunning landmarks. Its architecture is truly breathtaking, blending Art Nouveau on the outside with Art Deco details inside. The grand halls and expansive spaces give it an atmosphere of elegance and cultural importance. Beyond the building itself, it’s also a hub for the arts, hosting concerts, operas, and exhibitions. Another plus: its central location puts you within walking distance of other must-see attractions like Alameda Central park, Torre Latinoamericana, and the historic Centro. It’s a perfect starting point for exploring the heart of the city.

A beautiful palace full of interesting art. It was free during my visit which is a nice gesture. The exhibits were cool, I won't pretend to be so interested in art. The property itself is a work of art and a great place for photographers to take some shots. Highly recommended!

This place is amazing ! The theatre tour is every 30 min. alternating between Spanish and English. It is definitely a must see and experience. We then proceeded to get a ticket for the art gallery. Being senior there was no charge. But I would’ve gladly paid. The architecture and the attention to detail. The floors, the walls, the ceilings the columns are all together. The artwork of course is “different strokes for different folks” but all in all, just amazing ! What a beautiful experience !

Really worth a visit it has 17 stunning murals by famous Mexican artists like Diego Rivera and paintings. We joined a free guided tour and the guide was great at explaining the murals(4/5) and their hidden symbolisms. I would totally recommend to join a tour as there is much that the descriptions won't be able to cover

Amazingly beautiful venue for theatre and dance. It’s a magnificent artistic building itself. We saw the ballet folklorico here while in town and bought the cheaper tickets with balcony seats up top. And it was still a great experience.

We saw the Lilia Carillo exhibition and Diego murals , took about a hour and half but we took our sweet time. Def recommend visiting. Tickets were about 5$ per adult

Art Nouveau outside and art deco inside. The palace is possible the most beautiful building in Mexico City. The best view from outside comes from the café across the street (8th floor of Sears). Nice murals inside too, including Rivera’s.
Guilherme G — Google review
I walked in without knowing much about the history and solely depended upon the Google reviews. This was a huge mistake. I didn’t even know it has gallery rooms. It is one of those places where the reviews can be way off the mark. So I recommend reading something about this place and its events beforehand since there are no English speaking guides (unless you hire one) or plaques available. For some incorrect reviews, there are 5 pieces of Diego Rivera’s murals. Other than the destroyed Rockefeller Center reproduction, four murals of “Carnaval de la Vida Mexicana” series are here. It is not well known but you should not miss them if you are a fan. And other murals are magnificent as well. On the way up to the third floor, they drove us through the Lilia Carrillo show. I was initially vexed but it turned out as a great opportunity to see her paintings although I had no knowledge about her life and artworks. One thing that really bothered me was there were Spanish speaking guides explaining two murals. The one who guides the “Man, the Controller of the Universe” stays in front of it too long giving the audience an “unwarranted one hour lecture” while asking them foolish questions. I couldn’t get close to see the details thanks to that. I hope they shorten the time. It is a great place to visit for sure.

The Frida Kahlo Museum, also known as The Blue House, is a museum dedicated to the life and works of iconic painter Frida Kahlo. Located in the leafy Coyoacan district, this museum is housed in Kahlo's former residence and has been open to the public since 1958.
A must see site when visiting CDMX. Frida was an amazing person that everyone should know about. We went during the extended hours nightime experience which was really fun - though if you want to see the vibrant colors of the home and surrounding area make sure to go during the day. The staff was organized and helped facilitate the timed entrances - make sure to buy your tickets well in advance to get the time you want. There is a specific order to go through the museum and certain sections can be very busy for viewing. Some vendors outside selling souvenirs/trinkets. There is a shop inside and small cafe! Bathrooms are very clean!

The museum was incredible - getting to first hand experience the space where Frida lived and died and and many of her beautiful works hanging throughout. My only issue was how wildly crowded it was. The tickets are sold in 15 minute intervals but unfortunately that staggering doesn’t do much - we would wait behind 10-15 people at each table to try and view the displays and read about Frida. At times there were so many people in the next room we would have to stand and wait 5-7 minutes before being able to move in, or so many people taking influencer posed photos on the stairs that you couldn’t even exit the home I’m Not sure that there’s any way to change those things but they were the only downside of an otherwise incredible experience.

I visited the Frida Kahlo Museum on Sunday, and it was such a lovely place! There’s so much interesting information about her life, beautiful art, and amazing antiques. I recommend watching the movie Frida first—it helps you understand and appreciate the museum even more. The ticket price was reasonable, but I suggest booking in advance because there was quite a long queue. It’s also best to take an Uber from your location to the museum. I absolutely loved this place! Greetings from the UK

Walking through the house where Frida Kahlo lived for 36 of her 47 years was an incredible and emotional experience. Every corner of the Blue House feels alive with her spirit — from the vibrant colors on the walls to the intimate details of her studio, bedroom, and garden. Seeing the actual objects she used, the clothes she wore, and the tools she painted with makes her story deeply personal. You can feel both her strength and vulnerability as you move through the rooms that witnessed her struggles, her creativity, and her love for Diego Rivera. It’s not just a museum — it’s a journey through her life, her art, and her resilience. A visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum is truly unforgettable and an absolute must for anyone visiting Mexico City.

This was incredible!!!!!! I didn’t get tickets before our trip so I had to do a walking tour to get an entrance ticket. The walking tour was great but wow this museum was cool. I loved that it included some of frida’s works and her real painting materials and furniture. There’s a tiny gift shop thing, which was just enough without being over the top or overly commodifying. I will remember this visit for a long, long time.

A must visit if you are visiting Mexico City. This museum has a lot of history behind it and you will get to see the place where Frida Kahlo spent her final years with all artifacts and detailed history of her. It would take 3 hours to get around. Make sure you book your tickets in advance (either directly or via tour operators) as they are quickly sold. They also have a gift shop and cookie shop inside if you wanted to refresh. Please visit if you are in CDMX.
Viswesh M — Google review
It was a dream come true. I admire Friday Kahlo, and it's privilege to get access to the actual house she lived. The colors, easel she used, the beautiful kitchen, original paintings, her personal journals, original dress collection, everything is preserved and maintained so well. If you not watched Frida Kahlo movie just watch before entering the museum, you will relate more.
Mayur G — Google review
Book the tickets in advance and come on time. The exhibition is not really showing much, but it does show some spirits of Frida Kahlo. The atmosphere all around is very nice and relaxing. Take a seat in the garden and enjoy the vibes would also be a good experience.

Xochimilco, located just 40 minutes south of Mexico City, is home to the famous Floating Gardens of Xochimilco. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features a network of canals and manmade islands known as chinampas, which were originally created by the Aztecs in the 14th century to address a shortage of arable land.
Amazing trip through the floating gardens. Peaceful, serene, great history, food and drink.

Xochimilco, located just 30-40 minutes outside of Mexico City, offers a truly authentic Mexican experience that is both vibrant and unforgettable. Known for its colorful trajineras (boats), Xochimilco is the perfect place to immerse yourself in Mexican culture. Once you arrive, you can rent a boat to cruise through the picturesque canals. The experience can last as long or as short as you like—just let your boat operator know. As you float along, you’ll encounter vendors selling delicious Mexican food, from tacos to tamales, and even drinks like micheladas. Live music adds to the festive atmosphere, with mariachis and other musicians serenading you from nearby boats. A few tips: Go to the bathroom before you take a boat. Be sure to bring plenty of cash, as you’ll need it to pay for the boat ride and any food or music you’d like to enjoy. The cost varies depending on the length of your ride and what you purchase, but it’s all very reasonable. Also, Ubers were easy to find both to and from Xochimilco, making it a convenient day trip from the city. Plan for at least an hour but stay as long as you like to soak in the lively energy of this unique destination. Highly recommend!

We loved this unique area of Mexico City. It is colorful, historic, lively, and very special. We went at 10:00 for a peaceful float thru the canals. It started to get busy with Mariachi bands, people selling food and bev, and larger groups. So fun.
Theresa M — Google review
It is a great nature and cultural experience. I am not sure why people would give negative reviews. We booked a boat for 1 hour for two people and went solo for 600 pesos ($36 USD). We got to experience how some families live a simple life near a canal in Mexico. We experienced serenity of nature. While some groups were blasting music in a natural area, we chose a calm and quiet trip through nature. We got plenty of beautiful pictures of the landscape from the water. I negotiated with the boatman to show us something different and a small doll house. So he offered to go further for an additional 30 minutes for 1000 pesos ($60 USD), making our trip of 1.5 hours. The boatman took us further up the canal into smaller ones, giving us plenty of picture moments. We loved it overall. The boatman was very nice and friendly despite the language barrier as we were communicating using Google translate. The boatman was young, he didn't go to the college. I asked him how much he makes from the 600 pesos per hour boat run? He mentioned that he only receives 100 pesos for his work, while the rest goes to the administration that owns the boats and maintains it. So I gave him a tip for his hard and honest work, which made him happy. We didn't wait for any food boats or anything, as we were more interested in experiencing the nature.
Umer A — Google review
It was a fun-filled hour of relaxing as we floated on our private boat. My family found the different trajinera artisans selling food, drinks, flower's, jewelry, and offering Mariachi quite charming. Especially considering when you place an order they board your boat while in motion to serve you. Despite the rumors this isn't a tourist trap. Yes it does attracts tourists, but locals also come here to host birthday parties, get married and celebrate life in general. The Floating Gardens of Xochimilco give you a insight into what the area looked like in the 1500's, but if you aren't aware of the context this gem might be lost on you. This experience reminds you the entire area used to be a lake. If none of that strikes a cord with you, but you're a Frida Kahlo fan you might be interested just to see the where Frida and Diego got remarried.
Dasha G — Google review
Pier Fernando Celada / Embarcadero Fernando Celada is the name with more reviews. Even before you arrive at the floating gardens there will be people knocking on your Uber/taxi window trying to sell you on a tour of Xochimilco. None of them were on the side of the floating gardens, they must not be allowed to cross the street. Just walk to the boat area and ignore everyone else trying to sell to you. We went to the ticket window and were directed to a gentlemen with red hat and red shirt that briefly gave us information, asked how long of a tour we wanted, 1 hour (500 pesos), 2 hours (1000 pesos) etc. He called over one of the boat guys and that gentlemen led us down to the boat and was very nice. We didn’t have to pay anything until we got back. Along the way a boat pulled up besides us that was selling Corona for $40 pesos, delicious chicken and cheese quesadillas for $35 each, and waters for $30. Our “guide” kept pushing both boats along as they cooked the food right in front of us. My only regret was not ordering more food. The boat goes along somewhat slow, but it’s very quiet along the way with just nosies from animals and the occasional backyard stereo system. We did not have pesos after buying food, but we ended up just paying/tipping a little extra in USD for the ride and it was around 750 pesos with food for 3 people and the 1 hour tour. Pros: Food along the way, very peaceful, lots of wildlife. Cons: Very little English spoken here, they just need some sort of official information /ticket booth somewhere near to make things a little more comfortable, the water/some houses along the waterway were a little dirty.
DJ — Google review
100% a tourist trap. The sign says 2 hours for $1200 pesos. They charged us that much but then took us around for 1hour and sat near the dock for 20 minutes. Then eventually finally docked the boat after stalling. Then had the nerve to ask for a tip
Sabrina E — Google review
It’s an experience. Fun hour to relax floating listening to music eating and drinking. You can get your own boat for $25 USD per hour. Food is cooked on another boat that comes up and hooks on. $5-10 for enchiladas or tacos.

Africam Safari is a wildlife conservation zoo in Puebla, Mexico, spanning 500 acres of diverse habitats. Founded by Carlos Camacho Espiritu in the 1970s, it houses over 450 animal species from around the world. Visitors can drive through open-air enclosures or join guided tours to see elephants, giraffes, rhinos, tigers, and more. The park offers educational experiences like tracking animals and picnicking with giraffes.
We had two cars in our party. Our family enjoyed every moment of this experience. We went on a Sunday. This park is so well thought out, it was very impressive. It did take us about 5 hours to get through but felt like it took 3 hours. You first go through the safari portion where the animals are running free in their own habitat. There are stops along the way for clean bathrooms, food, and places to get out of the car and stretch your legs. There are 3 stops along this adventure. The last stop is more of a traditional zoo. All the animals here were well taken care of which was so good to see. Highly recommend for good family fun!

Highly recommend 🌟 The only problem can be lots of visitors, so 🚗 cars drive very slowly and under the sun 🌞 it can be a tricky time with kids in a car! So I would choose time to enter wisely. Maybe not weekends if you have opportunity! Area with Lions is just Breathtaking! 🧡🦁

One the best aquariums around the world I visited. The shark diving was excellent and loved it all the way . The picture you take with the dolphin 🐬 kissing on your cheek is just ossum. We missed to get the tickets for penguin 🐧 play time where you can play with penguin 🐧 in personal time of around 30 minutes. Would love to do that on my next visit to it .

Sumidero Canyon National Park is home to an impressive natural wonder known as Canon del Sumidero. This deep and narrow gorge was formed by the Rio Grijalva over 36 million years ago. Visitors can take a boat tour down the river and witness stunning sights such as crosses and monkeys, though some may have tracking devices on their necks. However, the canyon's beauty is tainted by tons of plastic trash covering the water.
What an incredible place! We visited here as a day trip from San Cristobal and it was truly stunning. We visited 2 viewpoints first and then into the canyon itself. The boat tour was 2 hours and stunning for every part of it. The boat operators don't speak English but their Spanish is very clear so you can pick up most of what they say even if you only have a little Spanish. We saw 6 crocodiles, some monkeys, an iguana and so many birds, including pelicans. I saw previous reviews commented on the rubbish floating in the river - we learned that this is due to the heavy rainfall and they are working hard to clear this. We had a fantastic day here and very highly recommend it.

Beautiful place with abundant natural wonders, particularly the impressive alligators that populate the waters. The diverse wildlife and scenery offer plenty to explore and observe. Unfortunately, the experience is marred by significant amounts of litter scattered throughout the waterways. It's disheartening to see such negligence toward this natural habitat, as both visitors and management seem indifferent to the pollution. A magnificent location that deserves better environmental stewardship.

Of course , nature is wonderful!! And I’ve seen some crocodiles. But all the tourist companies in Chiapas seem to be treating tourists like dollars, only seeking to profit and don’t really think of the experience you are paying for. So the visit ended up being very touristy, rushed and tiring. I wouldn’t go if I knew what I was going to get.

Mexican government: DO BETTER. This is a magical spot that is completely neglected it terms of conservation. One full net/barrel of trash/plastic picked up per boat that is allowed to tour. The customers would be willing to support this. It's completely heartbreaking to see the amout of plastic on this beautiful river.

Honestly very beautiful natural attraction super unique and breathtaking I’ve not seen anything like it in my life… but to just be real I can’t ignore the fact that there is so much plastic pollution in this area it’s disgusting actually and heart breaking it is actually is hard to not mention it because it does take away from the beauty and it’s important to mention because I feel as though there could be something put into place to prevent this much rubbish building up in such a beautiful natural attraction where there is many ecosystems. Apart from the disgusting build up of neglected rubbish the nature itself is very magical

This is a must see site for those interested in culture, history, science, astronomy, etc. Depending on your starting point (Villahermosa, San Cristóbal, Palenque city), you may be better off hiring a touring company. Certain roads are too windy and traffic roads on curves are weird (traffic can switch lanes), not to mention possible dangers from corrupt police and other organized crime, as well as the nuisance from time to time of locals blocking roads to charge a "fee" to pass. In the dry season (April timeframe), Sun is blazing hot in Palenque at over 100 deg F (40 deg C). Recommend bring plenty of water and snacks. Cash is a must in most cases for hiring tour guides on site (unless already included see part of your transportation arrangement) or buy any souvenirs/crafts from local vendors. One of the highlights is climbing to the temple of the Red Queen, which shows the open tomb of said queen displaying a red residue used for momification at the time. In my case, the group decided to tour the first half of the ruins including Templo de la calavera, Templo de la Reina Roja, Templo de las Inscripciones, El Palacio, Aqueducto, Juego de Pelota. The second part was a mini tour of the jungle. I personally loved the red tree type and the story about how this is the antidote to a poisonous tree that typically grows side by side to it, according to the guide. In retrospect, I would have stayed to see the second half of the ruins, temples/piramyds which you can still climb. Be mindful, as in most touristic sites in Mexico, you will get bombarded by food and craft vendors, not to mention tour guides if you don't have one already. There are bathrooms near the entrance as well.

The sights are great. Now there are two prices. One for nationals and one for foreigners. You can take your car but your not permited to park i the area, but there are a few restaurants near the area... Take your car. The tickets cost 215$ each + 60$ for parking + 120$ for the taxi to take you up to the ruins. In all it's a good place to visit, very hot, not many moskitos if your blood is packed with vit B but it's quite a hike. Swarms of tour guides will come to you, the prices range from 100$ to 330$ or more for a guide. Some beautiful trees very humid take water....

Palenque is not just a collection of stone ruins; it is an experience of discovery and immersion. Nestled deep within the humid Chiapan jungle, the site is unparalleled for its mystical atmosphere and stunning setting. Unlike the more arid sites, here you feel the weight of history surrounded by the vibrant sounds and green canopy of the rainforest. Atmosphere and Setting: The humidity is intense, but the reward is worth it. The jungle hasn't just been cleared around the ruins; it actively embraces them. You'll see massive kapok trees, hear the roar of howler monkeys, and feel the constant presence of the wild. It gives the site a unique sense of being reclaimed by nature. Key Structures: The architecture at Palenque is sophisticated and beautiful, known for its delicate stucco work and refined carvings. * The Temple of the Inscriptions: The most famous structure, which housed the tomb of the great ruler Pakal the Great. It is imposing and a marvel of classic Mayan engineering. * The Palace: With its unique four-story tower, the Palace offers fascinating insights into the royal life and astronomical observations of the ancient city. * The Northern Group & Waterfalls: Don't miss the structures across the small river and the beautiful, small waterfalls and cascades that flow through the site—a perfect spot for a break. Overall: Palenque provides a thrilling blend of history, archaeology, and intense natural beauty. It's a must-visit for anyone traveling through Chiapas and offers a far more engaging and evocative experience than many larger, better-known sites. Arrive early to beat the worst of the heat and the largest crowds!

Amazing site! Get a feel for ancient Maya culture, and discover the incredible pyramids here. It's so cool how they are hidden in the jungle, and I was told only roughly 5% has been uncovered. 100% worth a visit You can also occasionally spot monkeys here :)

Decinitely a must see if you find yourself in Mexico. For me this was so much better experience then Chichen Itza where you have lot of annoying souvenir vendors and a lot more tourist. Palenque is a peacevul heaven hidden inside jungle. Not only archeological site is amazing and you can climb on them (august 2025) but also check nature especially trees while you here. Sanitarios (toilets) are in the start up point where you buy ticket, and also 4 km up in the woods where really walking tour starts. Parking is 62 pessos, Palenqua ticket 215 pessos, governement tax 100 pessos, and transport 60 pessos per person.

I wanted to come here since I was a little child, and I was not disappointed. The ruins are simply stunning both the ones that have been restored in the main area and the remaining ones that are still covered by the jungle. I just wanted to add some details on how to get there. Actually, the best way is to take a collectivo from the city centre. I paid only 25 pesos. When you are there, you are assaulted by people that want to be your guide, but I think it’s actually so much better to go on your own. They tell you that without them, you cannot see the ruins that are in the jungle. but actually it’s not true. I had to pay then, from the official ticket booth 100 pesos to enter the main archaeological park, 235 pesos to get into the jungle, and 60 more pesos to get the shuttle bus to get to the main entrance. There was no shuttle bus to take me back to a ticket booth when I finished, but I could jump on another collectivo that took me back to the city Centre. Please note, but even when it goes back to the city centre all it says on the bus is Ruinas.

was here on a Sunday. on Sundays the locals have free entry and hence the place was busy. I recommend taking a guide to understand the different buildings. I got an unofficial guide from inside the site for 400 pesos though the guides outside asked for 800 pesos. I was alone and hence this lower price, for groups they may charge 1000 pesos. unfortunately I did not hear any howler monkeys even though the guide took me a bit inside the jungle. the place looks mesmerizing and reminded me of video game locations of mayan civilization. there are multiples tickets to be purchased. a total of 315 pesos on tickets and 60 pesos for the collectivo too and fro from the entry gate.this was in addition to the 25 pesos for the collectivo from the town to the entry gate

November 2025. ⬇️Some major flaws/scams⬇️ 1)Gates open at 8 a.m,that's too late. Tropical temperatures and humidity are peaking already by 9 a.m. For comparison,Angkor Wat archaeological park in Cambodia🇰🇭 opens at 6 a.m. 2)Palenque stands out from other Mayan sites in 🇲🇽 for the quality of the artifacts rescued but the Museum is CLOSED for renovation until date to be announced. They won't tell you that upon buying tickets nor will they grant a discount for the incovenience (as we normally do in the EU). 3)You must buy 2 tickets at the registration (3.5 kms from the ruins proper) desk: 100p for the ruins + 215p for the "natural park" 🤌🤌?!? 315p in total or 15€...and that's just the beginning (to be cleared what the "natural park" is?) 4)After paying the ticket, walk 3.5kms in the heat or pay extra 60p extra for a shuttle (again, similar cases in the EU or Turkey include shuttle transfer) 5)tout guides will catch your attention asking to see your entrance ticket (they are not in charge of that) to later offer their services. This considered,2 hours on one's own are enough to tour the site.

Agua Azul Waterfalls is a famous tourist attraction in Palenque, known for its distinctive blue water and rainforest surroundings. Visitors can swim in some parts of the falls and buy souvenirs from several stalls situated there. The water may appear green or blue due to the ongoing rain season but remains a sight to behold nonetheless.
Very interesting system of waterfalls and pools with really clean water. Great setting. It looks like it is a very popular tour destination. Worth visiting and even taking a splash. Many restaurants and vendors of food and souvenirs line the trails.

🤔I could spend all day here & not get bored! My only complaint is really personal, I get car sick & the curves into valley for me sick 🤢 I will say it's about 250peso to go up the water fall it's a certain part they'll only let u go with guide. They kept trying to talk me into it & I watched some ppl go. You climb up & the falls then jump down so for me it wasn't worth it🤷🏽‍♂️. If u wanna flex on the gram or something yh, go 4 it💪🏽. There was a lot of places to go & see, I'd suggest going as early as u can🌄 bc 2 me it was more fun with ppl & the groups leave early evening. We made new friends which was cool. There's tons of restaurants that'll let u use Wi-Fi🥩 if you eat there. There's also tons of vendors selling lots of souvenirs if you want a momento, some are decent size statues🗿 There's local kids that live there where they can go places visitors 🙅🏽‍♂️can't 4 safety reasons. Keep in mind there's ppl that live here so you might see some🛀 bathing or washing clothes on the river🧼🧽👙🩳 I would recommend this place so many times over & we didn't even get to do that much😎

Beautiful series of waterfalls. This was one of the favorite stops for everyone in our little travel group. The water was fairly blue/green that day and we spent a lot of time in it. We also had a delicious lunch in a small restaurant next to the falls.
Michael C — Google review
It's a long, bumpy ride away from anywhere, but the falls are as impressive and powerful as billed. But, be aware that the water is only blue when rainfall in the highlands has been relatively minimal. We were there in early November after several days of hard rain, and it was Cascadas de Agua Marrón. Also, be prepared for wall-to-wall vendors at every point along the way.

Beautiful waterfalls with area for walk, swimm, shop, eat and they even have short zip line.

Absolutely love this place! This waterfalls are probably my most favourite. The water was unbelievable blue and you can bath on many places. If you want more privacy just go more up, where are just few people. There are also plenty of bars and a restaurant with great food, especially the fish.

Semuc Champey is a stunning natural attraction located in the Lank municipal district along the Cahabon river. It features a 500-meter-long natural limestone bridge, with the Cahabon river flowing underneath for about 300 meters. The site is renowned for its picturesque stepped pools formed by the bridge, offering cool, turquoise waters perfect for swimming.
One of the most beautiful places that I’ve ever been to. Even getting to the place is an adventure. The pools themselves are crystal clear and beautiful and provide a nice and relaxing getaway from the hike. The locals fair and along the route have wonderful food to buy. The trek to the actual pools is moderately steep and rocky and the ride to even get to the area is bumpy. And then of course the hike up the mountain after the pools would be more strenuous. Definitely would not recommend for anyone who has severe back issues or is unstable. But for anyone that loves adventure this place is great!
Ricky M — Google review
We took Semu Champey tour and it was absolutely amazing. I think our experience was even better because our tour guide. Jungle boy is very funny, enthusiastic and outgoing. He was born there and therefore he knows everything you need during this tour. The tour took 8 hours around and thankfully it didn’t rain until the end of it. We did things we’ve never done before and they were beyond our fears. We went through a cave with full of water, dark and small, he made sure everything was fine the whole time, and you really can do the jumps and sliding if you want. Aside of jumping from a swing and tubing for a few minutes, we hiked had a big included lunch and finally we swam in the nine pools available for swimming and jumping. We def think that without a guide this is not imposible and even less enjoyable.
Carlos P — Google review
Absolutely amazing! Observe that there is no need for a tour guide. I recommend using the parking (if you are in your own vehicle) next to the entrance (Q10) rather than right after bridge (Q50). The hike up to the viewpoint is strenuous, but IMHO worth it. Dogs only allowed if emotional support documentation available.
Felixspiess — Google review
We went to Semuc with our hostel and we thought it was amazing. A natural beauty. The pools were very clear and clean despite raining a few days before. The view point is great and worth the climb. Would recommend.

Gorgeous place. Our trip was organised by Mayan Gateway with local guide Eli. We climbed the stairs to the Mirador first - took about 20 minutes- which was hot and sweaty and hard on the lungs and legs but worth it for the view and made the swimming afterwards especially nice. There are toilets and changing rooms near the pools as well as lockers (bring your own lock) but most people seem to leave bags on the bank within line of sight. Don't worry about swim shoes - the rocks are smooth and the water is deep. There were a few lifeguards too.

Freaking awesome! But food availability is VERY limited. Take swimming gear, snacks and plenty of water. Then just enjoy the absolutely amazing atmosphere 😍
Rae S — Google review
Genuinely the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited. Sensational pools, beautiful views and magical mountain scenery. The cost for entrance is 50GTQ (£5), which can be paid on arrival without booking. When you arrive, you can pick up reasonably priced drinks and food from street vendors before entering the park. The walk to the viewing point is c. 30-40 minutes up stairs / rocks. It’s relatively slippery, so go carefully. We drove the whole way to Lanquin from Flores. It’s possible in an average rental (4x4 not needed), but is a challenging drive. Always stick to the main roads no matter what your navigation says, as the side roads are very sketchy (steep, slippery, big rocks, etc). Avoid driving at night, as lots of people / animals / cars use the roads, which are not lit. The entrance to the park is accessed via a 10 minute shuttle from Lanquin, which costs around 50-100 GTQ for a return trip. You could drive it in a 4x4 (or possibly in a normal car, with a high risk tolerance), but I’d recommend going via a shuttle, which can be easily found in Lanquin or via your hostel. We didn’t do the cave tours and were perfectly happy at the main section - you can access everywhere aside from the caves in the normal fee.

Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve is a significant site dating back to 1200 BCE, showcasing ceremonial Mayan temples and stunning vistas. The ruins feature corbeled arches, a distinctive characteristic of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican constructions and Maya architecture. Located near San Ignacio Town, it offers access to ancient structures, intricate stone carvings, and panoramic views of the rainforest.
Amazing experience. Take a cab up here and save your legs for climbing. The steps here are pretty steep. If you read in the visitor center you learn they were not made for every day climbing, that only the privilege do it. Can be slippery after a rain storm. Worthy of the $10 USD. Perhaps better if done with a guide?

This was the most breathtaking thing I've done in Belize. I had a great fortune of getting to experience the site alone, I felt like royalty. It's such a massive site, and would make a perfect day out of anyone.
Callum W — Google review
A relatively small Mayan temple site, it was occupied for most all of Mayan civilization. Very close to town, so easy to visit if you are short on time. Interesting museum and small gift shop.
Glen J — Google review
Wonderful piece of history. Please be advised that their hours of operation are incorrect. They open at 6am and close at 5pm. However, the last entry into the site is 4pm. We arrived at 4:15pm thinking they closed at 6pm (according to Google) only to be denied entry. They do not have an hours of operation sign posted otherwise I would have took a photo. Besides this issue, we returned the following day and got to experience this ancient site for all its wonder. I absolutely love that you are able to climb them. Beware another reviewer also mentions a room within a room with bats on the ceiling. Bathrooms were clean and small information center was decent for what it is. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and have time.
Annette F — Google review
Very cool archaeological site with lots to see and tons of fascinating history. If you're considering going I recommend not buying tickets in advance. I bought mine online and there was some confusion. It'd likely be easier to have just bought them at the entrance. Definitely recommend all tourists to visit Cahal Pech!

A 20 minutes from town. Had the whole place to myself. A great way to fill in a couple of hours. The museum is very educational about the history of Belize.

Totally worth the hike with your board. Amazing place, astonishing views from the top. Weather has been a little bit odd these days, but I liked the fog too.

The trek up is not difficult and took more than half an hour. Great view at the top of the volcano. Extremely windy at the top. Waiting for sunset was the icing on the cake. Beautiful panoramic view. Going down the volcano was a totally new experience, it took about 10-15 minutes to glide down the moving, sliding volcanic pebbles. It was not easy and some really enjoyed the descent

The youngest active volcano in Central America! I'm glad to have experienced volcano boarding here, it was exhilarating! Went here with a local guide, who is an independent contractor with a group tour that I booked. It's great that we went early in the morning so we had the whole volcano to ourselves and avoided the scorching sun. The hike up to the peak is about 45 mins, rewarding you with cool breeze and amazing view. Descending down the slope with the board takes a few seconds to few minutes. An experience of a lifetime that is worth doing again! :)

First let me say this spring is on par with ones I go to in Florida. It’s going to be the “Wekiva type” where the water is mostly arranged in large pools that have been manicured a bit for convenience. Truly, I think Ojo is rather well-designed. There is a shallow section with underwater ledge built to separate it from the deeper half with a diving/Tarzan swing. Some cute playset swings IN THE WATER 🫢 (why haven’t we done that before in FL?? Such a cute idea) and a smaller, medium-deep “adults” pool for those avoiding the kids & families. Sufficient seating, showers, and bathrooms all around. A really easy plantain farm hike (I greatly enjoyed it). And is no one mentioning the fact that c185 towards food is included at the restaurant?? The menu is much more expensive than expected for the most part (fish & chips for $20USD or 600+ Córdoba being the most egregious offender 😂). But c185 can get you a side of fries + queso + soda of your choice 💁🏾‍♀️ which was good enough for me. Had a lovely time. Great way to escape the heat of the day, and if you partake in one of the many cocktails (I did not), you’d probably have an even nicer time 🍻

Really nice place with a natural pool! We were lucky to visit early in the morning as it got quite crowded by the afternoon. The food at the restaurant was quite tasty, though it had only a few vegetarian options. The staff was super helpful and friendly.

We stayed for 5h, perfect place to stay all day! Service is great, the waters are amazing, very clear, with little fishes that amaze the kids. The swings and Tarzan rope can keep kids busy for hours, and if water gets too cold for them, they can take a break in a trampoline and other games. Must do when traveling on Ometepe! Recommended to us both by tourists and locals, literally everyone we told we were going to Ometepe as a family.

We loved this place! Visited as a family with teens and tweens from the UK and had a fabulous time. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, didn't prebook so we arrived early. Appreciated being shuttled everywhere in the heat but plenty of shade and water stations. Left belongings in the locker and started with the zip lines thinking I'd be petrified but actually felt reassured and very safe. For those reviewers complaining about feeling rushed through this wasn't the case it was efficient and minimised hanging around in the heat getting nervous. Staff took time to learn our names and reassure us, also giving advice on the local area and other things to do whilst in CR. Enclosures were great and we loved how a lot of animals came over and interacted. Cultural tour was fascinating but an hour in the hot wooden hut was hard on the children but no problem as they nipped to the farm animals when they'd had enough of coffee talk and returned in time for chocolate! Secluded beach was a welcome end to the day and there was only 1 other family there so it was very quiet. Buffet food was really good with huge selection, not a fly in sight as others suggested and so nicely laid out with selection of cold drinks like iced tea and plenty of ice which we were very grateful for. Lovely full day outing with great staff who made it more enjoyable

Excellent buffet lunch, everything fresh and crisp , nice coffee and juices. Craft beers and full bar available for extra charge, craft beers were 5,000 colons ($10 us dollars ). Great view from the restaurant/main office. The coffee tour was interesting and sugar cane crushing was fun. Overall we all had a great day. Plenty of parking. Beautiful!!!! The park is absolutely gorgeous! The view of the ocean and Riu below is breathtaking. We sat and watched zip lining for a while. My husband and I did the nature walk. It’s a zoo. I was a little disappointed. It is nicely organized and clean, except for windows, but I’m assuming the animals make most of the mess. The animals looked well cared for. The sloth feeding was a little disappointing as you could not always hear the announcer. It’s a lovely park. I just think they should call it a zoo or animal park, not a nature walk.

Such a fun day! The all day adventure pass is well worth it. Nice buffet lunch after zip lining. Everything was well maintained and staff very professional. Zip lining felt very safe. The zoo is very well done too. So much to do on property you really can spend a whole day here. Be sure to bring an insulated water bottle to refill.

The zoo is especially well done with great landscaping and enclosures where you can actually see the native animals up close. The toucan and butterfly exhibits are especially captivating. Keepers are very knowledgeable and provide valuable information. There is also ziplining with one called the Superman. Exciting! A cultural experience, horseback riding, ATVs, a beach walk, a good buffet, and a gift shop are also available. Oh, there is also a spectacular view from the restaurant. Highly recommend a visit!

What a adventure! We did day passes which included all parts of the park, ziplining, buffet lunch, parking, shuttle, lockers. Only $140 each for all of that. The animal sanctuary was amazing. We spent the most time there. Saw many animals I have never seen before. The biggest adventure part was the ziplining. One was a MILE LONG! And started at the top of a mountain! For real. Good grief. I never would have done it if I had realized before hand. But, we did it. The crew was fantastic getting us in our harnesses and gear. Total of 5 zip lines and one drop zone or short repel. Fun and scary, too. Kenneth was an absolute treat to work with and talk to. The botanical center and learning centers were interesting. It was super hot while we were in there, so we cut that shorter than we should have. Lunch buffet hot and fresh. Also had salad bar, tea, juices, dessert. Nice selections available. Hammocks available to relax at the beach, or paddle boards. Also opportunities to ride horses or ATVs which we chose not to. Easy to spend the whole day there! So glad we did that.

Experience was great - the zip line was incredible and had the most spectacular views. The lunch that was with our package was so so, it got us easily each something we could enjoy though. The staff was so friendly from every driver and zip line person and each naturalist we spoke with.

Awesome! What’s a great place to spend the day at! So much to do. Great place to come when visiting Costa Rica. Family filled fun. If you’re driving here consider renting at least a mid performance car or at least something with 4x4. Steep hills and rocky dirt roads that are washed out or muddy. Driving yourself not for the weak of heart: narrow winding roads

Samara Beach, located on the Pacific Coast of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, is a horseshoe-shaped paradise offering a variety of activities for tourists and travelers. The beach town has preserved its authentic Costa Rican charm with a strong farming and fishing community. The crescent-shaped beach is lined with coconut palm trees where aquamarine waters meet the white sandy shoreline.
Lovely beach. Lots of families and kids learning to surf. Safe waves. If you want to walk the length of the beach check that the tide is medium to low, otherwise prepare to get wet. I mean, it is the beach though.

Will always have a love for this town. Lived there for 4 months and it was a beautiful experience. Definitely don’t enjoy how expensive it is because of all the gringos. I encourage you to shop from the local markets please instead of the foreign businesses. Beautiful views of the stars at night (when the clouds aren’t in the way). I love the sunshine that’s still radiant even while it’s raining. Pretty great food with good varieties. If you’re visiting definitely try: mar y fuego, ahora si, burger window (best smash burgers I’ve ever had), carrera 18, roots bakery, vino sin vergüenza, kiwi, tika frutika, and corner shot! My favorite part is the market every Saturday! Ugh the best yogurt I’ve ever had with every flavor fruit! And the home made jams. With the best empanadas in town! Always looked forward to seeing all the jewelry vendors. Also, the homemade gelato van down the block if you ever catch it open. Absolutely love the yellow boutique next to limeys with hand sown clothes. Really really small town, days feel repetitive since there’s not much land to explore here but the environment is calm and lovely with nice locals. Not sure if I’d come back again tho, there’s much more of Costa Rica to explore.

Very nice sand beach, great waves for surfing during right tides. Enough spots for drinks and food.

Great beach with several placards to learn to surf. Some great affordable food options right on the beach as well with some great food.

Beautiful beach! Such a large beach that you will have no problem finding a spot away from people. So many little restaurants along the beach. Small park next to the police station has freshwater showers. If you need to escape the sun or heat there are quite a few trees that line the beach to set up under. Saw surfers and horses.

It’s in the top 3 best beaches of our trip in Guanacaste region. Playa Samara is a wide & long crescent beach that stretches for several kms. Fine sandy bottom beach & the waves are gentle most of the time…great for swimming for all ages. It’s perfect for surfing lessons or boogie-boarding. There are small villages along the beach with the town of Samara being the largest. Lots of beachfront restaurants, places for surf lessons, equipment rentals & souvenir stalls. There’s a good snorkeling spot in the tidal pools at the north end of the beach. During our stay we found Playa Samara fairly empty but it gets quite busy on weekends and holidays. It would be ideal if you can stay in Samara for a night or two. We stayed for a month and aside from our ventures outside of Samara, we fully enjoyed the town and its surroundings. It has complete amenities but still has a laid back atmosphere. At no time did we ever feel unsafe while exploring the area.

The water is really nice and you are able to swim . The water is warm . But there should be more sitting areas .bring a towel to sit on the floor . There are couple of stores and restaurants around the area .we stayed the resort near we tried to walk but it was unsafe the roads are to narrow and grass is on slant. Will recommend ask the resort to book a taxi for your travel there . It cost us $10 to get there .

Bodies of Water
Multiple volcanic peaks & craters in a national park, plus a famous light-blue river.
Loved the blue water and the waterfall. It was interesting to see the sulfur spring bubbling up in the water further down the trail. The trail has intense parts, steep and rugged, steep stairs and further down the trail steep and uneven stairs. But it is worth the effort if you are in moderately good physical shape. Bring plenty of drinking water and eat a hearty meal before you leave. It is my understanding that they don’t allow food on the trail. We spent about 4 hours on this trail observing birds and enjoying the beautiful blue water.
Stephanie E — Google review
This place was pretty cool. They offer tours that will take you to the waterfall to take pictures. My wife and I saw plenty of people doing this, but we just went by ourselves. The trail is very well maintained and clear. Although, the elevation is extremely intense both ways. Wear proper footwear as it is steep, wet, and slippery. We saw the tourists in slides and bathing suits...it didn't seem like swimming was something you could do there. Also, we saw a few people slipping and falling onto their butts due to wearing improper footwear. It took a little under 2 hours for us to complete the full trail using trekking poles and moving quickly. The blue river is really neat, but the views from altitude were the coolest parts for us. We saw a family of Capuchin Monkeys. If you drive your car here (totally recommend) there is a parking lot for $6 next to the park entrance. The entrance fee was about $12 per person and you have to pay online. You can't bring any food into the park. Overall, this was worth it, and a great workout. Don't bring grandma.

This is a wonderful place if you enjoy outdoor hiking. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes because you will walk a lot ! I saw two snakes on the way but they seemed cool.
Sui C — Google review
First and foremost if your coming buy your tickets in advance. Make an account and buy the tickets, they will not see you at the window without tickets and service sucks once you get there. The walk was awesome not recommended to do it if your hungover but that did help me sweat everything out. The walk is easy but if any elderly that can’t walk or is difficult to walk don’t do it. It’s flat then hilly and full of rocks. The water fall is amazing but the only downside of it is that you can’t walk all the way down to the bottom it’s closed off due to fallen trees. So you can only see it from where we took the photo. Is it worth the money maybe, but you should look elsewhere to get to a waterfall up close. You drive over the water and that’s free you can’t miss it. If we would of known that we couldn’t get to the bottom we would of gone to another one.
Elfego J — Google review
3km out and back hike. Challenging at times, but difficult parts are either paved or have man made stairs. The access to the waterfall was closed and definitely makes the effort of the hike less enjoyable but the pool and mixing area are worth it for those who enjoy the beauty and science of the natural world. Plenty of wildlife too including toucans, capuchins and coati.
Larry M — Google review
Beautiful waterfall after a short hike. Trails are well maintained with interesting wildlife to be seen. Stairs were involved and it's a rainforest so we had some rain. Get there early. Nearby parking for a small fee.
Bill C — Google review
One of the busier parks that we visited while in Costa Rica, but with good reason. We got our tickets ahead of time and we didn't have to wait to get in at all. We only went as far to see the blue lagoon waterfall, but I would almost wager that is enough on its own with how beautiful it is. The hike isn't too far but does have some decent vertical bits, and about 250 steps (each way) if you want to get to the base of the waterfall, which I highly recommend doing. At the parking lot there are bunch of vendors with delicious fresh fruit and other foods that make a great refreshing recovery snack after some good exercise.
Tom G — Google review
We visited the park during the start of the rainy season but got lucky that it didn’t rain to much. 100% worth it to see the Rio Celeste. Parking cost 3,000 colones and afterwards you can get a chilled green coconut and fruit as a snack.

Baldi Hot Springs Resort Hotel & Spa is a luxurious retreat nestled in the heart of Costa Rica, offering an unforgettable experience with its 25 geothermal pools and stunning views of nearby volcanoes. Guests can indulge in relaxation at the spa or enjoy complimentary breakfast at the on-site restaurant. While some visitors have noted that the food quality could be improved, many rave about the beautiful surroundings and variety of pool options available.
disclaimer: cash only for everything (including in person bookings and drinks) except the gift shop! this resort is especially beautiful at night with the differently colored lights. the outdoor temperature is also better for the hot springs at night. there is generally a lot of space to roam and relax, but it is nearly empty after 8 pm, which is a great time to visit. there are also very fun and very fast water slides. there are a dozen pools with different temperatures and some have bars in the water.
James S — Google review
A must visit location in La fortuna, about $72 cad per person to enter but so worth the money. Multiple hot pools at different temperatures and lots of swim up bars. The drinks are priced and an expected price and service is good. The slides are wild, I'm not sure I enjoyed any of them to be honest, fun would be the wrong word, they were very quick and the toilet bowl pool is to shallow and my partner cut his head open hitting the pool. There's lots of fun to be has but be very cautious on the slides.

We weee there in off season and the place was pretty quiet which was wonderful. The grounds are well taken care of and the place is so beautiful. The pools always felt clean and there are so many of them to choose from. The rooms were comfortable and had all we needed. The rooms were clean when we got there and they kept them clean during our stay. The breakfast was delicious, and we had some desserts that were also amazing. Baldi is one of the best places I have stayed, they treat you like VIP the whole time you are there! The food in the upper restaurant was good, but nothing spectacular. It is a buffet style and there was a lot to choose from and had good flavor.

A Jungle Paradise! 🌋 Must-visit in La Fortuna: If you are visiting Costa Rica, Baldi Hot Springs is absolutely worth the money! We spent a fantastic, relaxing afternoon here and it was the highlight of our trip. We visited as part of a tour from the Guanacaste region (about a 2-hour stop) and it was the perfect amount of time to soak and recharge. Why you'll love it: 🌿 Variety: There are massive amounts of pools at different temperatures, so you can find the perfect heat level for you. 🍹 Swim-Up Bars: There are lots of bars right in the water. The service was good and the drink prices were totally expected/reasonable for a resort. 🎢 Fun Factor: We didn't go on the slides, but they looked like a blast if you want an adrenaline rush. Whether you are driving yourself or booking a tour stop like we did, this is a must-do experience in La Fortuna. Highly recommended! 🇨🇷✨

Very nice experience. Stayed with my family and 2 small kids. During the week in October was so nice, not busy and totally relaxing. I have stayed with Tabacon before, but this resort is way more for fun kids and incorporates more bars into pools. They are currently not accepting credit cards, so bring your cash. Located near downtown Arenal, so you can explore there easily and take tours.

Baldi Hot Springs is an incredible experience and a perfect day spa style getaway. We arrived at 9:30 a.m. and stayed until 5 p.m., and the entire day was relaxing and enjoyable. Getting a locker was simple and affordable at $7 and towels required a $10 deposit which you get back when you return the towel. The bathrooms were spotless, and the entire facility was immaculate. There are many different hot springs throughout the property, most of them warm to hot, with a few cold areas. Each pool has its own unique design, and exploring them was part of the fun. The cave hot spring was my favorite. Walking through a warm waterfall inside a cave that opens into a beautiful hot spring pool was an unforgettable experience. The staff was friendly and welcoming. One tip for visitors: Avoid ordering drinks from the premium bar in the back. The drinks there are overpriced and watered down, costing $20 or more. You can get the exact same drink from one of the regular bars for around $12, and those drinks are noticeably better. The luxury bar drinks had very little alcohol and were mostly juice and ice, which made them feel like a waste. We only ordered French fries during our visit. So I cannot speak on the buffet or other food options. We assumed the buffet might be priced similarly to the drinks, so we decided not to eat at the restaurant. Being in the hot springs while it rained was amazing. None of the pools ever felt overly crowded. There are so many options that people spread out naturally, and you can always find a quiet area. The bar near the entrance is the most popular spot. We noticed more visitors arriving around 4 p.m., but earlier in the day it was peaceful, even on a Saturday. There is also a charming jungle trail behind the pools in the back. Where we spotted a toucan, several interesting birds, and farm animals like horses and cows. We did not see monkeys or sloths. The kids area near the helipad looked great, with a water slide, dump bucket, and a comfortable lounge area for parents. Overall, Baldi Hot Springs is a fantastic place to spend the entire day, and absolutely worth the price.

We paid $98 for a day pass for two adults, included parking and ability to leave and come back until 10 pm. There was an ability to upgrade to include a meal. Drinks were a bit overpriced, cocktails ran about $20-25 each. Overall, the multiple different hot springs was cool to see but I don’t think we needed to spend more than a day there. The natural sauna was really cool to hangout around. All the pools have slightly different temperatures, and the swim up bars were covered so we could still hangout while it rained.

Beautiful grounds, clean pools, good breakfast. Short story - stay elsewhere and come for the day to relax..... Watersides are not safe or need more warnings for tall or heavier people! Fast slide can make you go 27 miles per hour. I hurt my shoulder as I couldn't keep the position suggested and almost rolled going around a corner and then came out almost sideways. Medium one was just as bad. PTSD! Same thoughts from a 27 old adrenaline junkie who hurt his lower back doing the fast slide!!!! Room has coffee pot but wouldn't give a coffee packet either morning (said no coffee available) and breakfast doesnt start till 7am. For the room price you would expect so much more. Hotels 1/3 the price had coffee and would bring more if needed...... Shower was sad.... didn't even need to turn on the cold water. Check in process was long as computer system doesnt acknowledge canadian credit cards and had to authorize manually with email confirmations before giving you a room key. Bring your phone with you!!!!! They give you a wrist band but then you have to carry your room key with you to the pools. You have to set up a tab at reception bar and close it off before 930pm.... Can't they attach everything to the wristband????

Nestled in the heart of Costa Rica, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve is a breathtaking tropical paradise that beckons nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. This enchanting forest boasts an incredible diversity of flora and fauna, making it a must-visit destination for anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature's wonders. With guided tours available, visitors can explore its lush trails while learning about the unique ecosystem from experienced guides.
This is one of the most popular parks to visit in Costa Rica and with good reason! To visit it you must park at the nearby visitor center. Here you can get your tickets, some people advise to buy tickets beforehand but there are about 700 daytickets available every day for sale at the visitor center. This way you can choose a day with good weather, we would advise to visit during a cloudy/rainy day because this brings out the magic of the forest. From the visitor center you are transported by bus (10 min) to the entrance where you enter the park. You can choose your own route, some paths are more difficult than others. The views, especially from the bridges, are amazing. If you are lucky you can see the clouds floating through the forest. It is quite difficult to spot animals in the forest, you need a guide for this. We also did the night tour here at this was very fun. The guide knew everything about the forest and we saw quite a few animals, even some very rare ones like the moss-mimic stick insect. This is certainly something you should do in Monteverde!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A breathtaking and essential visit for nature lovers The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is absolutely beautiful. I visited in November — it wasn’t a sunny day, but that made the experience even more magical. I was lucky enough to see the Resplendent Quetzal and several other bird and wildlife species among the lush trees, vines, and dense vegetation. Yes, the entrance fee is higher than in other reserves, but it’s important to remember that your visit directly supports forest conservation. It’s worth every cent for those who truly love nature. If you’re not a nature lover, maybe it’s not for you — but for those who are, this place is paradise. Monteverde is one of the few remaining true cloud forests on Earth — a rare and fragile ecosystem that must be protected. Please, visit responsibly: respect the trails, take your trash with you, and appreciate this living treasure. Every step here reminds you how important it is to protect our planet. 🌿

I decided to walk to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve since there’s no public transport available. The walk took me around 90 minutes. However, when I arrived at the entrance, I was asked to show my ticket. I had assumed I’d be able to buy a ticket at the gate, but I was told that tickets must be purchased 1.5 km down the road at the main parking area where cars and hotel buses arrive. What made this even more disappointing is that the signage at the car park does not make it clear that entry tickets must be purchased there. As someone arriving on foot, there was nothing obvious to indicate that this was the only ticketing point. The Cloud Forest prides itself on its ecological and environmental values, yet there didn’t seem to be a clear or convenient option for visitors who choose to walk rather than drive. It felt quite ironic that an attraction focused on sustainability makes it difficult for people who opt for the most environmentally friendly method of arrival. To go back down the hill to buy a ticket and walk back up would have taken another 40 minutes, which I wasn’t prepared to do. Instead, I decided to treat the experience as a hiking opportunity and spent the rest of my morning and part of the afternoon enjoying the walk, taking in the scenery, and exploring the surrounding trails leading to the reserve. Overall, it was disappointing not to be able to enter after such a long walk, and I think it would be beneficial for the reserve to provide clearer guidance and better accommodation for visitors arriving on foot.

We took a guided tour and that made all the difference! We found that just marching around on the trails caused us to miss so much. We also loved learning about the history of the park and of Costa Rica
Renee A — Google review
1. Get a guide. It's worth it. 2. Dont trust google maps! Parking is 1km away from the entrance down at the base of the hill, and charged at $5. They run shuttle buses from the lot to the gate. We saw so much that we would otherwise have walked right past. You can come and go through the day with one ticket. The hiking trails are well mapped and easy.
Jack B — Google review
The tour was informative and our guide was knowledgeable about both the local wildlife and the ecosystem of the reserve. That said, we didn’t see much wildlife during the tour—so if spotting animals is your priority, I’d recommend checking out Curi Cancha Reserve instead, which tends to offer more opportunities for wildlife viewing. Still, the trails in Monteverde are absolutely stunning and worth exploring. I’d definitely suggest doing some additional hiking on your own after the guided portion to really soak in the beauty and tranquility of the cloud forest. A solid option for nature lovers, especially those interested in learning about the history and environment of the area.
Avni N — Google review
Monteverde cloud forest is one of the icons of climate change research. This is the place where it was first established that climate change has a direct relation with species extinction with the extinction of the now famous golden toad. Many biologist and environmentalist visit and study this place. So when visiting this forest you need to come with the right mindset. To experience the beauty of a forest where most species survive on the unique phenomenon of clouds watering the forest rather than rain. If you come thinking you will see a bunch of animals or do a zip line or see a beautiful hanging bridge then unfortunately you would be disappointed. The canopy is very thick in Monteverde so animal sighting is harder than other reserves. How to experience this forest? Just peacefully walk through it , listen to the sound of nature and meditate. There is a point in the trail where you can see both the Caribbean and pacific side, do go see that if you can. I see a lot of people complaining about ticket charges and true if you expect something else you would be frustrated but note that your contribution is helping preserve this ecosystem which is already under decline. Try to not treat this as some entertainment spot, and trust me you will have a good time. It’s pretty much where the earth is truly breathing and coming alive. It’s magical and beautiful
Debbie B — Google review
Monteverde Cloud Forest is a famous destination, but there are a few important things to know before you go: 1.Ticket Location Confusion Make sure you go to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve Parking Lot to buy your tickets — not directly to the entrance! The entrance (called “Entrance to Monteverde Reserve”) is further up the road, but you can’t buy tickets there. If you go straight to the entrance without a ticket, you’ll have to go all the way back to the parking lot. 2.Free Shuttle Included There’s a free shuttle that takes you from the parking lot to the entrance, and it’s included in your ticket price — convenient and easy! Pricing Entrance fee is $26 USD per adult, and if you want a guided tour, it’s $23 USD extra per adult. 3.Road Condition The road leading to Monteverde Cloud Forest is quite rough and bumpy. Considering the relatively high entrance fee, I think they could invest in improving the access road a bit! 4. Getting There from town You can get to the parking lot by driving, taking public transport, or using a local shuttle service like PyP Transportations (about 4000 CRC round trip). All options are manageable, but some planning is helpful. 5. Bonus: Free Wi-Fi! One pleasant surprise was the free Wi-Fi available at the reserve — not something you’d expect in the middle of the cloud forest! Overall Experience Personally, I found the experience quite similar to rainforests in La Fortuna — lush and beautiful, but not drastically different. If you’ve already visited other rainforest areas in Costa Rica, this might not feel like a must-see. But if it’s your first cloud forest experience, it’s still worth checking out.

Montezuma Waterfalls Trailhead and Parking Lot

Waterfalls
The Montezuma Waterfalls Trailhead and Parking Lot is the starting point for a 40-minute river hike leading to a beautiful waterfall with a swimming hole. The trail also leads to a second set of falls where adventurous visitors can take a 10m leap into deep water, but caution is advised. Additionally, there's a rope swing over a third set of falls for those seeking more thrills.
Perfect short hike! You can choose the designated trail or have fun walking and jumping stone to stone in the stream. You reach the waterfall at the end completely dry. Recommend hiking shoes and whatever you need for swiming at the end. The waterfall is great and has a very nice and deep swimming area. I love the fact that it takes 10 to 15 minutes of walking tonreach it. Water wasnt cold. Perfect for refreshing after the walk.
Biri — Google review
The waterfall is FREE! Please park on the street to avoid paying for free parking and getting scammed. The "tour" guides will haggle you for money. Just walk right past them and avoid paying whatever they try to get out of you. The hike is a lot better with water shoes. You will probably get your feet/shoes wet while hiking up to the water fall. Wear closed shoes to protect toes. Maintain 3 points of contact while crossing over rocks. So you don't fall. Overall its worth it.
Christian C — Google review
It’s not an easy hike, but definitely worth it. You’re going to want to be careful not to slip and use the ropes they’ve set up. It’s a beautiful reward for the long trek, but it definitely is hard getting there
Rosie M — Google review
The coolest hike we’ve done in Costa Rica! It’s an advanced hike. Expect to use both hands and feet to hike up - it’s more like mountain/rock climbing on some paths. Definitely not for the faint-hearted! Better wear closed toe shoes with a good grip. The “paths” are mostly under shades. Sometimes it’s not easy to figure out where the paths are, but we really enjoy the feeling of uncertainty and adventure. It’s rewarding to see three waterfalls along the hike and enjoy the scenic ponds. It definitely worths the efforts. The third waterfall is the most difficult to reach - it’s a steep downhill along the cliff with dusty and uneven surfaces. You can get support with the tree roots on the cliff and a couple of ropes. There is an easier path to get the third waterfall, which is through the main road that leads to the top close to Anamaya Resort (i.e. you don’t hike). However someone in an “uniform” set up a tent there to charge you USD 4 per person to access the trails. It’s hard to tell if they are scammer or not. You could also choose to stay at the first waterfall/pond as it’s relatively easy to get there.
Yu-Shan C — Google review
Really cool hike. Wear closed toes shoes for the hike, and be prepared to cross the water stream. It will be difficult for people with physical disabilities or people who are fragile. It will take both hands, feet and some grit to hike to/from the waterfall. Once at the fall, you can swim in the natural pool. Awesome experience!
Thomas M — Google review
This is super cool - but beware, it is not a simple hike! It takes only about twenty minutes but your feet will get wet and you will have to climb through trees and use ropes to navigate to the lower falls. The water is cool but not cold and is 100% worth the small hike. Just wear good shoes! We had no problems leaving our stuff on rocks behind the falls to get in.
Valerie C — Google review
The hike can be difficult/slippery so do be careful and wear water shoes. They charge you 2k colones to park, you can get away from this by parking on the street if you want. Be aware that if you climb onto the hard part to waterfall 2&3 and decide to take the path/staircase way out they will stop you halfway and ask that you pay $5/person or go back to the “office” to pay by card… meanwhile telling you that people die going back and that you cannot go this way because it is private property. We don’t mind paying but there needs to be a sign at the beginning as this is basically holding people hostage. The company is called Sun Trails.
Jean L — Google review
Great hike with Carlos as our guide. I'm absolutely positive it would not have been nearly as enjoyable without a guide. We quickly made it to the first big waterfall, taking easier paths that were not obvious. Recommend sandals or shoes, although I did see 2 young people hiking it barefoot... We then decided to tackle the 100+ stairs (freshly remade, so easy to navigate) to the higher waterfall (2mil CRC per person). I'm glad we did! There were only 3 people there, and we had fun jumping into the pool there (safely). Water was brown since it had been raining, but it was refreshing and felt clean. Again, having a guide helped, since I would never have felt comfortable jumping where I could not see.

Waterfalls
Located in the La Fortuna area, Fortuna Waterfall is a 70-meter natural wonder on the Fortuna River. The surrounding tropical forest and crystal-clear waters create an enchanting atmosphere, perfect for swimming and picnicking. Visitors can expect a challenging hike with 500 steps but are rewarded with motivational quotes along the way. The waterfall's rocky surroundings and swimming hole offer opportunities to observe fish, while an orchid path provides a scenic walk.
Very beautiful clean place . Took the tickets and headed down the 500 plus steps to the waterfall , it’s lush green with shade of the tall trees ,didn’t really spot any wildlife other than some birds and iguanas. There’s drinking water all along with some benches to catch a breath . Very nice waterfall with people swimming, though it’s rocky and slippery around the pool . The sneakers are recommended and the climb back up is little challenging. But totally worth it .

Do NOT pay extra for a tour guide for this hike. We loved the fact the hike is almost all shaded. The waterfall is beautiful and we got a decent workout on the way back up. The water is refreshing and very clear. Expected a more environmentally friendly space. We also didn’t see a single animal except for a few fish in the water.

Incredible waterfall well worth the admission ticket. The power and height is really impressive. There are several other smaller cascading waterfalls to see on the way down. It's atleast 500 steps down with a railings. Going down is the easy part. There is a wading area separate of the waterfall to swim and get wet. The no love scenes sign was quite funny.

One of the "must see" spots on your Costa Rica trip! The waterfall is picturesque, well maintained and easy to access. It does require you to descend about 530 steps to the waterfall (and then the same back up). I saw people of all sorts and fitness levels doing it. Just take it easy going back up (enough space to rest without blocking the way). It took me about 10-12 minutes to go down and 20 mins to come back up with stops. Important to carry a rain shell with you. When I started from the first viewpoint and start of the steps, the rain was strong. When I reached the base of the falls it had stopped with intermittent drizzle. So, don't wait for the rain to stop - better to start walking and wait at the falls if you need to. If the water is too strong, they won't let you swim directly at the falls. There is another area by the falls where people can swim. Photos can be taken at the base (on the rocks), from the main viewing deck at the bottom (wait your turn when busy), from the viewpoint at the top, and from a few spots along the path. 24-70 mm lens is good. The area is quite developed. You will find a gift shop, bathrooms, and a restaurant serving okayish to decent food. PS: it was raining heavily when I reached the restaurant but eased off again after 10 mins (you get the picture!). There is WiFi at the restaurant. Dedicated/managed parking on site. You can expect to spend 2-2.5 hours here at a normal pace. Tickets can be bought in person at the entrance. Expect this to be one of the more visited places (more tourists). Normal footwear is okay (that will hold up in wet conditions).

Once in a lifetime experience! This waterfall was beautiful and unforgettable. There were a ton of steps, so be sure to wear grippy shoes and a raincoat/poncho if you prefer. I was fine with getting wet with just a t-shirt, but it did get a bit cold. You can swim in the waterfall and there are more spots around to view scenery and smaller waterfalls.

It's a not very difficult staircase leading to a cool waterfall, and you can swim there which is fun. I got there just after the opening hours so there were only few people. However, there's no walking path alongside the river, only 2 spots to swim basically. Still, worth a visit if you arrive early enough.

La Fortuna Waterfall is a must-see! The facilities are well-maintained, and there are rest stops along the 500 steps down (and back up!). No washrooms at the bottom, but there's potable water to drink or rinse off after a swim. Showers, a souvenir shop, and free parking are available near the entrance. Entrance fee is around $50 USD per person."

Definitely worth seeing! There are around 500 steps down/back to access so prepare for that but waterfall is gorgeous and the swimming area has river trout. We recommend going early in morning
