Water & Amusement Parks
Xcaret Park is a waterfront eco-archaeological park in the Mexican Caribbean, offering over 50 attractions suitable for all ages. It's an ideal place to immerse yourself in the region's natural beauty and cultural heritage with your family. The park features underground rivers, jungle exploration, and access to the Caribbean Sea. Visitors can also explore ancient Mayan ruins and experience Mexican cuisine and folklore.
I really enjoyed my visit to Xcaret Park! I went with my partner (2 adults no children). We had a blast. The underground rivers were beautiful and definitely the best part, and all the activities were a lot of fun. As someone first being introduced to Mexican culture, I found the park to be a great and engaging introduction, the night show especially was very cool and entertaining. Our package (the plus package) included the dinner buffet, which had a great variety of options and everything tasted delicious. I’d definitely recommend getting the buffet package to make the day smoother and avoid worrying about food. It was also nice that the package came with a locker, and there were plenty of bathrooms around the park (which were always clean). We also did the Adrenalina boating activity for 30 min and it was amazing! Our drivers, Pablo and Diego, were super fun, entertaining, and made the whole experience memorable. It was a bit pricey and felt like it could’ve lasted a little longer, but overall, it was one of the highlights of the day. There were many activities to enjoy such as the aviary, butterfly conservatory, chapel, cemetery, Mayan Pueblo, waterpark etc. The only downside is the price point — it’s definitely on the higher side, and for that cost, it would be nice if at least one additional activity besides the river were included. The souvenir shops were also quite expensive (though that’s somewhat expected). Overall, I’m really glad I went! There’s so much to see that one day doesn’t feel like enough, and it was never a dull moment. I’d recommend Xcaret to anyone willing to spend a bit extra for a full, unique experience in Mexico. 🌴✨

This is a very well run and nice park. The underground river float was nice, the beaches were decent. The nighttime show was great. The downside is that the entire park is setup to squeeze money out of you. Only a few things are actually included in an already expensive ticket. The included buffet was average. It is clean and nice. It's worth doing once but we wouldn't come back again. The night show was definitely the highlight.

Absolutely incredible!! The best day out we had there by far!! It's a long day for sure but so worth it! The underground rivers were amazing to swim through, we swam the whole way! But there are multiple points for you to get out and walk if you get tired of swimming etc. We also paid to swim with the nurse sharks which was an unreal experience. The staff were really informative and professional, handling the sharks with such care. I just wish we had the option to have a private swim with them, rather than a group, the rest of our group were a bunch of Americans and they were ever so loud all the time. Shouting over the shark handlers when they tried to explain some things and making a scene. Regardless it was an excellent experience. My partner went on the adrenalina and absolutely loved it too! The included buffet was very nice, with a beautiful view of the sea turtles below. The cultural show was great! We were skeptical about whether or not we would enjoy it but we really did! The Mayan ballgames were awesome! What a show definitely recommend visiting Xcaret to anyone.

This place is absolutely amazing, yes it's a little expensive but in my opinion when you compare it to English theme parks or experiences its absolutely worth it. The place is big but not so big that you cant get round it all. It has a river that you swim (you are provided with life vests and flippers) and for me this was the highlight of the trip. Aquarium where you can see sharks, turtles, fish. An aviary which was amazing with some great picture opportunities. There's a cultural section of the park where you can learn more about Mexican culture and history. A place to snorkel which is included in the price. There's a beach and plenty of places to down tools and eat drink and relax. We were in Mexico in low season so the park was quite in comparison to higher season which was great as we got round everything and absolutely no queues. Top Tip hang around for the evening show it is long but definitely worth it and gives you a real flavour of mexico. Highly reccomend this park. I've also been to Xplor and loved that but this park topped even that.

Thank you for creating such a beautiful atmosphere. I was deeply impressed by the beauty of Xcaret’s nature; everything feels alive and full of spirit. The live music, your dedicated team, and the energy of the place make it truly special. It seems that everyone who works here truly loves what they do, and that passion can be felt in every detail. As visitors, you offer us not only wonderful experiences but also inspiration. You remind us to appreciate nature, to care for the environment, and to value culture and traditions. Xcaret is much more than a park — it is a celebration of life and harmony. I wish that soon our entire planet could be like this corner of the world — full of respect, beauty, and balance. Even if not everyone can see it or be here, thank you for inspiring people to become better human beings and to care more for our shared home, the Earth.

Honestly the best place I have ever visited in my life. I have never seen so many wild animals free to roam in their natural environment. The staff are amazing, the beaches are beautiful and swimming and boating through the jungle was magical. Don't miss this place if you're in cancun it is honesty a bucket list trip.

We were hesitant about visiting largely due to the very high price and worrying it would be tacky or badly done. We were very wrong. The entire park is themed and maintained to a fantastic standard and we spent 8 hours here but could have stayed even longer. The aviary was truly amazing, one of the best bird exhibits we have seen in the world and we thoroughly enjoyed each of the different coloured paths you take to visit each of the parks sections. Id recommend getting the Plus package just to take advantage of the great buffet lunch. We visited on a mid week day and at 9am it was virtually empty, by 3pm it became busier but never felt crowded. Is it expensive? Yes, on par with Orlando theme parks, is it worth it? Id actually have to say yes it could be. Well worth a visit!
Ben D — Google review
The underground river was amusing, but it was crowded. Prepare for a long swim. The snorkelling experience was not very good. The restaurant buffet was good, with good-quality food. The ritual and ceremonies get crowded, and if you’re not in the front lines, you can’t see much of them. The evening performance was very good and interesting. When you visit, you can usually do two to three activities.

Park
Xplor Park in Riviera Maya is a thrilling jungle adventure park offering a variety of adrenaline-pumping activities. The park is famous for its exhilarating zip line circuits, including the highest one in the area. In addition to zip-lining, visitors can enjoy boogie routes, underground river swimming, cave exploration, hamacuatizaje, and rafting through caves. The park also offers attractions like Mamita's Beach Club with stunning views and turquoise waters.
This was an amazing adventure! XPLOR FUEGO 🔥 So glad we got good weather, and it wasn’t packed. We booked with the resort which made things so much easier. We paid up front which was a reasonable price for two people. We got shuttles there and back. The travel time was not long. It was about 1 hour there, and 1 hour back. There is a locker included in the pricing as well. TIPS: Bring a backpack, water shoes, waterproof phone case, change of clothes, and towels. Bring money for souvenirs, snacks, and etc. We had 2 snacks, buffet, and drinks included. The tamales: chicken/pork both so delicious 🤤. The lemonade was some of the best I’ve tried, and the other beverages from others input were flavorful as well. Getting started the waters are a little chilly when doing the night adventures. The hand rafting was fun, and a little tiresome. You’re likely to bump into spots but make for some fun. Swimming through the tunneled areas was dark a times, but totally safe. Reminder: there are bats around so make sure to duck. There are about 8-9 zip lines that go back to back each level getting higher. You can do zip lines with a partner or solo. Also very safe, and I commend the staff makes sure everyone is safe and having a good time. They all explained everything in great detail, and offer English or Spanish instructions. They made sure we were safely secured for each activity. They were able to accommodate everyone’s needs. The ATV/ cart ride was so much fun. They have 4 to a car, and 1 person is DD. The terrain is very bumps, and a little dirty. Everything here was so much fun, and I would highly recommend this activity the next time you’re in the area. You won’t regret it! ** There is lots of walking, and can get slippery. So make sure your water shoes are durable, and you walk with caution. Lastly the night time one I enjoyed. It was comfortable waiting in line without the sun blaring on you since the lines don’t have much shade to wait in. The cooler weather was great. It was pretty dark throughout the park so be vigilant.
Priscilla C — Google review
We had a great time. All the activities are great. The food was great we got there super early so the entering process was very quick. Recomended doing the most popular activities first or while everyone is at lunch. The only thing was we bought the picture package but we did not receive all our pictures. We got sent pictures of people we did not go with, so we are try to see if we can receive the pictures that we bought but we're not sent. Apart from that can't wait to go back but at night ☺️👍🏽
Frida S — Google review
My friends and I booked in advance to take advantage of the discount. We were lucky that it was rainy, so we didn't get sunburn or need sunscreen, but we didn't get to do all the activities as they were full (amphibious vehicles and river rafting). Some lines were longer than others, but we still had a good time. The food at the restaurant was terrific, and you could eat as much as you wanted. The staff at the park were friendly & amazing. The only suggestion I have is that the helmet needs to be cleaned as they smelled sweaty, some more than others. If you're going, wear a bonnet or a swim cap. Prices are expensive, so consider purchasing a waterproof phone pouch before your visit. It may not be necessary, as you should not have anything on you for most activities (park rules). However, I would advise that you take the photo package; it's worth it.
Odelinda B — Google review
This park is absolutely incredible. Even moving from one attraction to another feels magical — you’re basically traveling through underground caves the whole time. The ziplines are the most fun: seven different lines, thrilling but not too extreme, so most people can handle them. The ATV vehicles are also a must-do, and the underground river swim and exploration are amazing as well. It’s definitely one of the best theme parks in the world.
Mina C — Google review
I went to the park with my family including 8 and 11 year old kids. We enjoyed every activity and it took >6 hours to do everything, including lunch, once. Favourate was the 5-in-1 tube ride. Most fun was the amphibious vehicle on 2 tracks. Unexpected wow was the underground river to wade and then swim along. 4 stars as many things were good and a few things great.
Warren M — Google review
This park was awesome! We spent a whole day at xplore Park and still do not have enough time to do all the different activities. We started the day at 9:00 (drove a rental car here from Cancun and there was enough parking). Check-In was easy cuz we got there before the buses so the lines weren't too long. I strongly recommend looking online a week before so you can have a discount and also purchase the photo package add-on. Who did the ziplines first, but honestly the lines lines for the zip line circuit never got that long throughout the whole day. Longest wait was for the giant slide, but that was only about 30 minutes, I decided to do it twice during our day. The way the park is set up, it is fairly easy to leave things in the locker and each time you finish a circuit you can access anything you need. I found the different activities in the cenotes very fun, but next time I think I will split it up and do the giant slide or the zip lines in between the difference cenote activities because it got to be a bit much to be in the cenotes for several hours. The buffet lunch was very good and there was lots for me and the kids so all of us had something to pick from. That's not gourmet but for buffet food it was delicious. My biggest recommendations is make sure you have good water shoes that have a closed toe and good sole, there is a lot of walking, half on cement paths and stairs for zip lines and half on very rocky uneven underwater in the cenote. I also recommend having your hair done in a way so you can wear your helmet all day, it was mandatory. Find rash guard was also very good so we didn't get chilled and didn't get sunburned.
Travis — Google review
Had a great time. Spent the whole day there, 9am - 5pm. Bought the photo and drone package and got great pictures, the one included, to document our visit. Zip lines and Water Tube ride had 30 min wait times throughout the day, a Thursday. Other than those rides, we didn't wait at any other place in line. Buffet was way better than expected, with numerous offerings from tacos to pizza/hamburgers to desserts. We visited the buffet right after showing up and before we left. Have watershoes before hand. Don't worry about your phone, just have fun....

We absolutely loved our time at Xplor Park! There’s so much to do, and everything was such a fun adventure. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Playa del Carmen! •So much to do! From ziplining to underground river swims, every activity was exciting and well organized. •Ziplining & Hammock Ziplining: Both were amazing! The views from the top are incredible, and the hammock ride into the water was such a fun surprise. •Delicious Buffet Food: The buffet was so good! Tons of variety, everything was fresh and tasty, and the desserts were just as delicious. •Photo Package: They have photo stations all over the park. It’s around $60, but it’s totally worth it—unlimited photos from every activity! •Underground Swimming: Such a unique and fun experience. The caves are beautiful, and the water feels amazing after the heat. •Friendly Staff: Everyone who worked there was super nice, helpful, and made sure we had a great time. •Well-organized & Safe: Lockers, helmets, and gear are all provided. Everything felt clean, safe, and easy to navigate. Overall, Xplor Park is a must-do in Playa del Carmen! Perfect mix of adventure, good food, and great memories.

Nature & Parks
Río Secreto offers an adventurous experience for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can embark on a journey through the underground river, marveling at the stunning stalactites and stalagmites while hiking and swimming in the turquoise waters. The excursion begins with a bike ride through the lush jungle, followed by a captivating hike through caverns adorned with bats and rock formations. With knowledgeable guides leading the way, visitors can rappel into the fresh water to explore this hidden subterranean world.
My husband and I had a lot of fun doing private tour here with Benito and Pato. Benito our tour guide was very knowledgeable and made our adventure feel safe and fun. Pato our photographer ensured that all the lightings were perfect to get that amazing shot ! Thank you both for the unforgettable experience, and if anyone wants to try I highly recommend it. Oh and the bathroom is very clean (I was expecting a porta potty situation but no it even smell nice and clean too. Big big plus)

Secreto Rio was such a very cool experience. The underground cave system (not a cenote!) is absolutely stunning, and the whole adventure feels peaceful, magical, and well organized. Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable. The underground river and cave areas were very unique. The only downside (and why I didn’t give a full 5 stars) is that no cameras are allowed, and the photo package they sell is quite expensive. It’s a bit disappointing since you want to capture those memories, but it still doesn’t take away from how incredible the place is overall. The meal at the end was delicious too. Definitely worth visiting!

A hidden gem. This experience is a life-changing event. The natural wonder that is this cave and underground river are demonstrated beautifully by the wonderful team of tour guides, staff, and photographers. Shout out to Pato our photographer for taking his time to curate perfect romantic pictures of me and my wife. He truly went above and beyond to make our trip memorable. The beauty of the cave leaves one speechless. I can not put together enough adjectives to describe how mesmerizing. 11/10 recommend.

Rio Secreto was hands down the highlight of my trip to Mexico! It’s honestly one of the most beautiful and surreal places I’ve ever seen. Walking and swimming through the crystal clear caves felt otherworldly. Our guide Gustavo was amazing, funny, patient, and made the experience feel really special. The photographs turned out fantastic I will just share a couple here. If you do one excursion while you’re in Mexico, make it this one. You won’t regret it.

The caves were so beautiful and our guide Felipe clearly loved his job and even answered my son’s million questions with pleasure. The food at the end was so-so. But the overall experience is so worth it, it’s a wonder of nature!

Great guides! I had a wonderful time and I highly recommend visiting the crystal cavern excursion! I loved swimming in the beautiful water and seeing the tiny shrimp and little bats.

Second time visiting Rio Secreto and it was just as good as the first. This time we did the plus option and the zip lines were a blast! Rapelling into the cave was super fun as well. Our guide David was fantastic and made it a real fun adventure for us and our kiddos.

Amazing place. The underwater caverns were mesmerizing, there are different circuits and we got so much fun. There is a buffet at the end of the excursion wich was okay after the adventure. Highly recommended.

Amusement park ride
Dolphin Discovery Tulum-Akumal offers an unforgettable experience with dolphins. Visitors can interact and swim with the happy dolphins, creating lasting memories. While the photo prices may seem steep, the overall experience is worth it. For those staying at Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Resort & Spa, there's a convenient shuttle to the dolphin show, making it a must-see attraction during your stay.
This was an unforgettable experience for our kids. I was amazed at how much they got to interact with the dolphins. The staff were so helpful and kind. I was impressed also that the dolphins could actually lift the kids up on their noises and ride them through the pool like they did. Some priceless moments that my kids won’t ever forget. Google maps does not take you exactly to the location so be aware of this.

DO NOT COME HERE unless you want to talk to horrible people. Crazy expensive. 45 USD for one digital or printed picture, rude workers. Brought our 1 year old and they were horrible to her. We had already paid for pictures online but when we arrived they forced us to pay for the pictures of the baby who can not stand on her own but ended up having no pictures of her on her own even after they made us pay due to this and said there would be no group ones even though we had like five group pictures and refused to refund us for money that wasn't even used for anything. Going in there were only one family in front of us but ended up waiting ages and nothing was said to us. Then they proceeded to rush us to get ready and in the end we still had to wait ages as they weren't even ready, there was also no official changing room or benches to get ready and put suncream or anything on and ened up doing it by the lockers. Our baby was crying due to the sun being in her eyes, they gave us an umbrella for her but began moaning two seconds later when it was in the pictures and the experience was unbelievably short and rushed like a conveyor belt, no personal touch to it at all. They moaned and gave us dirty looks and spoke in Spanish to each other when our baby cried like we were a bad family and when we came to pick pictures and we said about a refund they said that we couldn't get a refund because our baby was crying which is straight rude and obnoxious I will never understand why people think that just because we have a baby we should put our lives on holt. Completely put a sour mood on the rest of the day and will not be coming back. Even speaking to others who said they come every year said that it has gone terrible and has been cut short as there used to be a full show and you could ride and play with the dolphins. Do not come. Not worth your time or money.

FIVE stars for yesterday's dolphin experience...the dolphin trainers were awesome with our kids! ONE star for the photographer lady, who spent much of her time on her cell phone or looking out over the ocean....missing tons of great shots! The other photographer guy (for the other group) was capturing all the pictures the whole time! By the time she brought us in to sell us overpriced pictures I was already determined not to buy. Pig-headed, maybe? But, was insulted by her lack of work ethic. I get it, not everyone likes their job but come on, we're paying a ton of money to be there!
Michael P — Google review
If you are staying on the Resort it is about a 15 minute show that is free for Resort customers. If you want to swim with the Dolphins then there is a charge, but I don't not know how much.
Joy G — Google review
Really poor all round. So disappointed with this experience. I wouldn't go again nor would I recommend it to anyone. The 'trainer' had no knowledge whatsoever and the experience was rushed and very quick. One in one out rotation it's all about the money. The photographers are abysmal and miserable, don't mind taking money off you till there is an issue and they don't want to know you the smiles and friendly face soon disappears. NOT CHILD FRIENDLY AVOID.
Sian — Google review
Awesome experience.....My wife and I... along with the trainer were the only people in the pool... They took lot of time with us and there was no rush to get out... We had a great time. The staff was so friendly and courteous.... I would definitely recommend doing this while you are there... And get the package they offer that the dolphins lift you out of the water.... It is like nothing you have ever experienced.... Don't miss out on this... Pictures are a bit expensive... but like everything else in Mexico negotiable... But well worth the money...
Mike R — Google review
Very interactive with the audiences and they do have surprise for audiences to interact with the dolphins besides the paid one. Love the story lines of the dolphins and getting to know the well. It was part of the hotel which I was staying and it was a nice walk getting to the location.

I really loved my experience with the dolphins, they're very lovely and playful 😍!!! The trainer was so friendly and he explained a lot of interesting information about this beautiful animals, my pictures were perfect and I enjoyed every minute i spend in the park.

Yal-Ku Cenote, also known as Cenote Akumal, is a large and shallow cenote located close to the sea, giving it the feel of an inlet rather than a traditional cenote. It's a popular spot for snorkeling due to its clear waters and abundant marine life, including fish and sea turtles. The lagoon offers paths and benches for visitors to relax and enjoy the natural beauty.
Is a great lagoon. It was not very crowded, offered a very unique blend of fresh and saltwater animals and plants. It was very clean and accessible. Staff were great. It does not have the usual amenities, including food and trinkets, but this was not mess. They have usable bathrooms, Goodyear rentals at a reasonable price. And they recommended.
Addison T — Google review
The snorkeling in lagoon was very cool. The food was subpar and not good. The service at restaurant was lacking. We did rent a palapa and enjoyed it. The ceviche Vallarta was not good. My child said chicken nuggets were mushy inside. French fries good. Crowded in opening with tours, after tours left in afternoon a lot more pleasant. There were hammocks in our palapa that we enjoyed. Make sure you eat well before you get there, as the food service was not good. They do not allow you to bring your own food. They need more help in restaurant.
Diane T — Google review
We rented the Casa Laguna adjoining this lagoon and it was amazing to explore the place at different times of the day. Around 5-6pm is the best time of day, we experienced at least 7-8 full schools of different fish and they were much more in the open than during the morning or midday times. One of the highlights of our trip to Akumal for sure, highly recommend this experience and this casa was wonderful!
Jeremy S — Google review
This is a place you want to visit because it located in a beautiful and connects to the ocean. The water is pretty and landscape also. There is no overhead canopy cenotes, they all open so great for kids. Buy tickets there, cheaper.
Albert O — Google review
A very beautiful cenote. I loved it. It's a good choice since I've visited several. Even though it's an open saltwater cenote, it's still an excellent place. There's a variety of tropical fish and small animals.
Elias ( — Google review
Our friend advised us this lagoon. The earliest you get in, the better it is so you can enjoy being almost alone there. It is quiet, chill, and you can actually see a lot of fishes. The snorkeling area is quite vast so you can wander around and contemplate the underwater world with lots of space to explore. The water is very nice, considering its not possible to swim anywhere else in the Sargassum period ! An oasis of quietness and finally, swimming possibility for us ! 🙏 (We went there middle of August). You can hang around, lie in hamacs and sleep… we stayed here all day, enjoyed the sun and the nature surrounding us. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. 👍
Enora G — Google review
Super cool! Not a lot of people and lots of fish to see snorkeling!
Rachel S — Google review
The lagoon is beautiful! I highly recommend getting there early. Around 11 it started to get busy, and it became a little crowded. The water was clear and cool, and fish were plentiful! We rented gear from the front desk, and the masks were the full face snorkel masks that tend to fog up a lot. The current is strong to the right of the entrance, towards the ocean. Life jackets are required but weak swimmers be careful!

Playa Akumal

Outdoor Activities
Playa Akumal, located in the Riviera Maya, is a popular public beach where visitors can enjoy snorkeling and swimming with turtles. The bay's waters are home to these beautiful creatures, making it possible for snorkelers to observe them up close as they feed on aquatic vegetation. The beach's name, which means 'place of the turtles' in Mayan, reflects its main attraction.
Crowded? YES. Still very magical. This was my nine year olds second time snorkeling and he could keep up because the waters were calm. We saw probably a dozen turtles. Guides really respect the environments. It was at time difficult to move out of the way of the turtles because of the crowd but still highly recommend booking a tour here (over Isla).
KM P — Google review
Entrance is 140 pesos now and you will be harassed by so called ‘information’ and ‘bay patrol’ guys every 5 minutes. Just go to the Lol-Ha cafe to have breakfast and have a look at the beach before and after. It’s not a nice bay anymore, it’s full of snorkel / dive boats, full of sea weed and most of all full of lines with buoys that help snorkel guide chase turtles in groups of 12 (!!!). Any many groups at the same time. If you want to snorkel yourself, you can in the first 20 meters, you can spot a turtle in that under water grass as well. Just enjoy it from a distance. And for really nice reef snorkelling, go somewhere else.
Review M — Google review
Did a wonderful snorkeling tour here. Good to know: Entrance to the beach is 140 pesos, cheaper for children. This fee is for the lockers, changing rooms, showers etc. The sign at the ticket office explicitly says you don't need a tour to enter the beach. There is a route made through the water with ropes which I believe most tours were following. You just swim it with your guide (I believe swimming vests are mandatory). We got to see 5 Turtles, some Stingrays, different types of fish and the reef. The beach itself is pretty rocky, so not ideal for a real Beach day. You can park about 100m from the entrance for 100 pesos.
Emma N — Google review
The fact that literally all the beach altough offers no actual amenities is paid…is so sad…you are not even allowed to a certain point where the turtles are without paying for a guide…. Locals told me that used to be actually public/ free but not anymore…
Georgios T — Google review
Really enjoyed this clean and safe beach. It has a nice atmosphere - lively enough to feel fun, but not chaotic. A small tip for anyone visiting: if you don’t want to pay the 120 MXN access fee, walk straight down Calle 16 to the very end. You’ll reach a car park, just walk through the grounds and past the pool, and you’ll end up right on the beach.
Junaid A — Google review
Ok I read the reviews about how the turtles are being exploited and was skeptical at first but they actually look pretty relaxed and unbothered, they look clean and not filled with barnacles. The guide leads you to where they are and points some other marine life. I had a fun experience here! I had a private tour just myself and paid 30$. I looked online and usually they charge 45$ per person. It was fine by me since I had the solo attention of the guide. Me and my husband went around 10am ish and went to Lo-Ha restaurant this way we didn’t need to pay for beach access since my husband is not into beaches. We ordered drinks and lunch. While waiting I walked around the beach and there were a couple of guides that offered tours. So you can pick and think about it. You don’t need to buy it in advance since there are an abundance of guides at the beach area. My guide took care of me, he had new snorkels, I let him pull me a bit since he had fins and I didn’t. They all have floatation devices for safety. But I saw different sizes of turtles, and blue fish, squid, rays, even a ships cannon from the Spanish era. All in all it was a good experience. If you want to swim with the turtles I say go for it! Oh and parking is 100$ there’s a lot to your right that will say the price, and they will give you a ticket.

We came here on Thursday, November 6, 2025 and snorkeled with the turtles and the fish. The water was very warm, the weather was great! Our tour guide, from Cancun Adventures, who was with us all day, showed us around and she was really awesome! Although there was less fish than I expected and I couldn’t get any photos, it really was awesome to see! (Written 11-16-25)

Highly scammy - “impossible to swim without a guide”. The “guides” costs 700 pesos per person and you go in groups of 12. We looked from the beach and the waters were packed with people and boats. Much better options going somewhere else.

While the admission cost may be higher than other cenotes in the area, visitors are treated to guided tours through caves and underground rivers with carefully placed ambient lighting creating a mesmerizing atmosphere.
Stunning! I stayed at the Hilton and this was literally right outside the property across the road, easy cab ride. Unbelievably beautiful and quite a surprise. Had it to myself! Small cenote but just look at the pictures! This place is amazing!

This place is AMAZING! You do have to drive down a long dirt path (so be prepared) lol but it is worth it! The cave tour was very interesting and the cenote is something out of a dream! Crystal clear blue waters and beautiful rock cave formations. All the workers are so nice!!!! 🩷 Also, They have the cutest spider monkeys!! We wanted to come back the next day just to see them again, adorable!

Our visit to Aktun Chen was an experience that truly took our breath away. It's hard to describe how incredibly beautiful and peaceful this place is. It made us stop and think — how amazing and fragile our world is. Our guide was absolutely wonderful — he spoke with such love and deep respect for nature, explaining the formation of each stalactite and stalagmite like telling a sacred story. You could feel his passion and how important it is to preserve this natural wonder for future generations. Swimming in the cenote inside the cave was magical — the water was cool and clear, and the atmosphere was calm and spiritual. Thank you to the whole Aktun Chen team for such a meaningful and emotional experience. We’ll never forget it!

It’s worth the trip and the hiking is not difficult. Be prepared to need to duck down as you enter the cave as it is low for the first 10-20 meters but almost all of the rest is a comfortable height and not too many stairs.

Pretty spectacular place. Went on a rainy day so perfect for a cave cenote. 4 stars because the pricing looks like they change it. 650 mxn per person just for the cenote. Expect to pay per activity And We got there too late to do the other activities. At 340 pm we paid for the cenote they told us they close at 530. At 445 they were trying to say they were closing at 5pm. We stayed until 518. But they cut the WiFi off at 510pm and all the workers started leaving. No transportation back to reception We had to wait for our ride for 25 minutes with no WiFi hoping they would find us at the cenote instead of at reception Wasnt a great way to end our experience negotiating the time we paid for and WiFi to get picked up.

Paradise Beach, also known as Playa Paraiso or Tulum Paraiso Beach, is a stunning stretch of white sand and turquoise waters located in the Riviera Maya. It's often hailed as one of Mexico's best beaches and is a popular destination for tourists worldwide. The beach boasts swaying palm trees, lush jungle surroundings, and nearby Mayan ruins, creating an idyllic setting for relaxation and exploration.
Great clean spot to relax. Only bad thing is that it’s a protected park now. There’s a small fee of 60 pesos per person. You cannot take any of your own drinks, plastic cups etc. there’s a military post making sure of this. Also, they close all of this area by 6pm.
Rcantu65 — Google review
I recently visited this beach and had a mixed experience. The scenery is beautiful, with swaying palm trees and soft white sand, perfect for a relaxing day by the ocean. The beach was spacious, allowing for plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the sun. However, I did notice some seaweed along the shore, which detracted from the overall aesthetics. While it’s a natural occurrence, it would be great if the beach staff could clean it up more regularly to maintain its pristine look. The amenities were decent, with plenty of lounge chairs available. However, it felt a bit crowded at times, especially closer to the beach bars. Overall, it's a lovely spot to unwind, but a bit of maintenance could enhance the experience significantly. Worth a visit if you're in the area!

A beautiful beach with an amazing view. Try to get up early and watch the whales swimming and the sun rising. Absolutely lovely place. Can't wait to go back there next year. Suitable for couples, families, larger groups. Just an amazing place.

We didn't enjoy Tulum. It's like the movie your best friend overhyped and then it's a total disappointment. You have to pay an entrance fee to get in to Paraide beach, pay to park, pay to actually use the beach, pay for chairs/umbrella and pay again for a towel and THEN you can pay for your drinks and food. We went when the seaweed was out of control so it didn't help that we couldn't even enjoy what we paid through the nose for. It's the same issue at all of the beaches and I gave a 3 because it's the best of the ridiculous beach accessibility choices.
Cat S — Google review
Beautiful beach that you can see from the Tulum archeological site. It was an amazing blue ocean and white sand!
Rita — Google review
There is so much sargassum here that the sea has turned brown. Also you have to pay an entrance fee to access. Would not recommend.
Xerxes B — Google review
Definitely our favorite beach in Tulum! The sand is amazingly soft and white, sea is warm and calm, with no fishes around. The beach is in natural reserve (so in the protected area, as other Tulum beaches) so you can’t bring any plastic here (plastic bottled water or other potential garbage) - which is great, because this way they can maintain the beach clean, nice and preserve it for future generations! We have travel a lot but haven’t seen a beach this clean! And of course, you can find here the famous leaning palm tree 🌴
Cyntia P — Google review
No idea what time portal other visitors traveled through to get to the beach they rave about, but this entire stretch of coast was a disappointment. First off, this entire area is part of a National Park. The fee to enter the one road leading to it is 50 MXN. Then when you choose an area to park, you must pay. It is not free. About 250 MXN. These prices would be worth it for any good beach, but my visit in late May was a bummer. Not the fault of service nor of the locals, but I walked from Playa Paraiso up to Playa Santa Fe and sargassum was washed up along the entire shore. The sand away from the water was beautiful; fine white powder. But the water was not even that stunning, and also contains even more sargassum. Makes me wonder where all those other photos came from. I don't need to visit again.

Grand Cenote, also known as Salva Maya, is a popular semi-open cenote near Tulum. Despite its relatively small size, it offers stunning green waters surrounded by lush greenery and impressive rock formations, tunnels, and caves. The entrance fee is 180 pesos and visitors can rent snorkeling equipment to explore the underwater beauty of the cenote. It's a great spot for wildlife enthusiasts as it's home to turtles, fish, bats, and birds.
Beautiful cenote. Worth it for the wildlife alone! So many turtles and fish and bats and birds. We’re able to swim so close to the turtles. Beautiful. There was a line waiting when they opened. It’s a busy one so get there early. Open 8:10am-4:45pm 300 pesos or $15 USD Includes a life vest

Swimming with the turtles was more fun for adults and scared the little patooties around. The place is magical like you entered a different dimension! The entrance fee was very affordable too! We drove 2 hours from Cancun to Tulum and also paid a visit to this most talked-about Cenote.

At 500 pesos, very overpriced for what it is. We spend about 2 hours here, snorkeling, laying on the grass and taking some pictures. Beware that if you want to use their snorkeling equipment, you will need to leave your ID with them or a very big deposit. You can reach this place by bike from Tulum, the road is not that bad.

Its called “Salva Maya” as well. Best place to visit while you are in mexico around cozumel or cancun. You have to stop by and take a dive. Great sinkhole which has secure stairs, they give you life jacket with little 1 USD fees and they have few shops for shopping. We were on the way to Chichen itza and our tour bus stopped by for couple of hours for this Sinkhole with our tourist group. must stop at this place. They have little fees for an entry under 15 USD.

Really cool place, definitely recommend to go there. Entry cost 180 pesos, well worth the money. You can find turtles and "pedicure fish", it was quite busy when we got there by still really enjoyable. Bring your snorkelling stuff or you can rent them anyway there. Definitely do it:)

MXN 500,- per person, MXN 250,- per child. MUST wear swimwest & shower (incl. hair) before swimming in the cenote. you can see turtles there. feel sorry for them bc of the overtourism which infects their habitat :-/ the ppl, who work there are very unfriendly and not helpful.

Entrance fee 180 pesos. Worth it! Recommend take your own or rent(80 pesos +id card) snorkeling equipment, because all beauty are under water ! If you can't swim there is a life jacket rental (about 60 pesos + id). You can rest there on grass or sit in buffet. Recommend ! There is a lot of turtles and fish.

Incredible experience. We were staying in Playa Del Carmen and had a 1+ hour transport to get there but it was completely worth it. Manuel was an amazing guide. Absolutely incredible—truly the gate to heaven as its name suggests. Part of me doesn’t want to share this place for fear that tourism will damage its pristine beauty, but for those doing the research and reading this: go. I can’t recommend it enough. The water is crystal clear— even clearer than some rivers in Switzerland. Floating through the channels (more like gently drifting, lazy-river style) was deeply relaxing and surreal. No sunscreen is allowed to protect this fragile ecosystem, which I truly respect. Please—seriously—don’t pee in the water, don’t wear sunscreen, don’t touch the trees, and don’t do anything that could damage the natural environment. That said, going with the right guide is essential. My guide explained there are multiple entry points, and the scenery and road conditions vary drastically depending on the route. We had only 3 minutes of bumpy driving and arrived in about 30 minutes—but my guide confirmed (and I’ve seen on YouTube) that the wrong route can mean crawling at 3 km/h for 3 hours, only to end up somewhere polluted with trash and plastic, like some negative reviews mentioned. The route we took had absolutely pristine water but not much wildlife other than birds and fish—no dolphins, manatees, or flamingos—but I’ve heard there are other routes that focus more on wildlife viewing if that’s your priority. Bottom line: do your homework and choose your guide and route wisely—it makes all the difference.

An incredible place to experience nature in its purest form. The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is full of diverse wildlife, pristine lagoons, and untouched beaches. A boat tour through the mangroves is highly recommended — you can often spot dolphins, turtles, and different bird species along the way. The water is crystal clear, and the scenery is breathtaking. It’s best to visit with a guided tour to fully appreciate the area’s ecological and cultural importance. A must-visit for nature lovers and photographers.

just incredible. a memorable experience that will stay with me throughout my life. i am so grateful for our wise, warm guide Manuel and for Omar who drove our boat and was so attuned to the surroundings. they had a great harmony that made this tour particularly special. sian ka’an community is doing such amazing work to honour and appreciate the rich diversity of nature and her magic here and i am in deep reverence to everyone who made this experience possible. the best meals i had in tulum were here in the lodge prepared lovingly by the chef and his team, locally sourced, traditional and delightful. floating down the canal is pure peace. tranquility and wildlife abounds, this is a place of wonder. a true gift, thank you everyone ! 💚 a note to all visitors: please honour wearing natural sunscreen and mosquito repellent here to take care and preserve the delicate ecosystems.

Beautiful place to do a boat tour of the lagoons and see manatees, crocodiles and different birds. Gorgeous views.
Jeralyn W — Google review
If coming from Tulum on 15, it's not worth it!! 215 mxn pesos per person at the entrance (Arco Maya on the map). The only public beach access we could find is 4 km in and quite literally covered in trash, it's super sad to see. I wouldn't swim in it. The rest of the beach is fenced off, private property, which makes no sense on a nature reserve - but that's Tulum for you :/ For at least 14 km it's all jungle (pretty!) with no ocean or lagoon views until you get to a bridge with an awesome lagoon view, but it's only interesting for a few minutes and not worth the long drive on a dirt road. Unfortunately there are no trails or ways to really access the lagoon. I'm sure it's amazing with a tour but not if you're just driving in. Super disappointed at how this reserve has been privatized, trashed, and made inaccessible even for paying visitors.

Zona Arqueológica de Muyil is an ancient Mayan site located 25 km south of Tulum, within the Sian Kaan biosphere. It features temple ruins and artifacts dating from 300 BCE to 1500 CE. Visitors can combine a tour of the ruins with a float down an ancient Mayan canal once used by trading boats.
Amazing. Vast in thr jungle with some bright colors and relifs. Caves and affordable. Monkey's can be heard. No wifi. It links yo an amazing walk and boat tour where manatee and turtles are. Check out the full review on tiktok annastravels and on ig annastravelsnyc

70 pesos per person to enter. Plus 50 pesos for drones or (professional) camera equipment. Plus 50 pesos to walk the wooden path from the ruins to the lagoon. Well worth the entry fee and a few hours exploring. We did see a snake whilst walking along the path, can you spot it in my photo? The park has written signs in three languages so you don’t need a tour guide, although they do work the area. Parking is free at the entrance and there is a refreshment place and souvenirs across the road.
Jourdain W — Google review
Fantastic ruins and a park that’s small enough to get through in the couple hours with the boat tour. Bring bug spray. The lagoon boat tour was wonderful as you have the opportunity to “swim” in the natural canal. It’s “swimming” because the current is so strong it feels like a lazy river! Enjoyed the whole experience a lot.
Sarah C — Google review
Definitely add on the boat tour. It was 1,000 pesos when you buy it from the park. It's so worth it to see that part. There is another smaller ruin they take you to, and the view of the biosphere is amazing. You get to float a section of it, which is refreshing after you walk the ruins and the path through the park. They don't allow sunscreen or big repelant if you are going on the boat tour. There are definitely mosquitoes during the walk through the trail.

Zona Arqueologica de Muyil is very close to Tulum. The entrance fee is very cheap. Its a very nice park to walk, lots to discover. Most of the area is in a nice shadow of trees so it is not too hot. You can choose to only see the part with the remains of the old buildings or you can choose to also go to the lagoon. I recommend to choose both, since it is a very nice walk that will take you by the remains and through the kind of jungle area full of trees.
Jerneja B — Google review
I drove and used google maps to get to the office. Talked to one of the guys inside the booth to purchase the ticket and also the boat ride to the lagoons. Ticket price is 70 mx for the ruins and additional 50 if you proceeded to take the pathway at the back of the ruin. If you’re not going to take the boat ride, I suggest to only purchase the ticket for the ruins. There’s not much to do aside from the sketchy tower that you can climb when you’re close to the dock where they take you to the lagoon if you purchase the boat ride. The best is if you take the boat ride. It’s 1000 mx per person. They’ll take you to the 2 lagoons then lastly to the shallow canal where they let you float around for almost an hour.
Donald H — Google review
Cool little historical spot to check out for a couple hours. Not a hugely popular spot so you'll have a relatively private time. There are a few different ruins, some nice wooded trails with great trail maintenance. Then there is also a lagoon you can walk to using a wood plank path that's about 1km long. Fun little day trip with multiple street taco spots nearby.
Alex T — Google review
Cost for Ruins = 75 MXN per person. Cost for Bridge and Walk to Lagoon (chance to see wildlife) = 50 MXN per person. Cost for Lagoon Exploration Ride = 1000 MXN per person. (1 hr, swim in lagoon). We only did the first two. Would recommend the first, but not the second, unless you intend on the lagoon excursion. If not, save your pesos, the walk is too long for little ROI. We met a father/daughter who said the Lagoon excursion was worth it.

Punta Laguna, located just a 30-minute drive from Coba, is a hidden gem worth exploring. Visitors can embark on guided jungle tours to observe spider monkeys and listen to the howling monkeys. Additionally, they can enjoy a lagoon cruise and even try rappelling down a small cenote. This less-visited spot offers an opportunity to immerse oneself in the region's abundant wildlife with knowledgeable guides leading the way through lush jungles and rare cenotes for a small cost.
Lovely tour around a natural reserve, sadly I dont remember the tour guides name, but he was excellent! Very engaged in the flora and fauna of the reserve and showed us a couple of monkeys and other interesting animals in the area😊 Highly recommend, this has been one of our best experiences on our holiday yet!
Annie E — Google review
We had a fantastic tour here with Julio as our guide. He expertly walked us through the reserve and we spotted numerous Spider Monkeys and a family of Howler monkeys. We learned so much and Julio, being a local, was a font of knowledge. Our walk took us down to the lake which was beautiful and tranquil. My wife and I would highly recommend Punta Laguna. It is a totally more real experience than Xcaret and we were privileged to see the monkeys in their natural habitat. The trek was great value for money, 1,300 MX$ for the 2 of us, but card payments are not possible, only cash.

Very authentic 2h jungle tour in a monkey preserve provided by local mayans. Very few tourists, plenty of flora and fauna to witness here. If you like authenticity, this is the real deal in Yucatan! Just get there by car and ask for a guide at the entrance to give you a private tour. They will spot monkeys for you to observe and to take pictures. Cash only!!!

The photos I have shared here are from 2002, over 2 decades ago. The dock has been completely redone since then. When it comes to wild nature, Punta Laguna Nature preserve is some of the best jungle for beauty and zoology that our planet has to offer. I was part of a group called Summer Program in Tropical Conservation (SPTC) led by primatologist Dr. Michael Periera and Laura Vicke in 2002 in Punta Laguna. The purpose of the program was to explore botanical (medicinal tree identification), primatology (spider monkeys), native language (Spanish speaking), cultural interaction with Indigenous mayans (played football with the local Mayans, dined with them, and shared life experiences with them), and archaeology (Mayan ruins were near our campsite and we went to the surrounding ruins) - and establishing a reliable jungle trail mostly around our base, but as a circumference around the lagoon as well. Not only was there no zipline nor any of the other tourism there, back then, what is now called "Punta Laguna Monkey Reserve" was not a tourist attraction back in 2002, over two decades ago. Although it was not a full-fledged tourist attraction back then, travelers occasionally appeared at the dock overlooking the lagoon (near where we had our tent site) because they had heard it was a worthy visit. I am excited to see that today, still this magical and pristine place is held in high regard by visitors. Back in the the ealry 2000s, we actually used machetes and gps to map out and make trails at the Punta Laguna reserve. I lived on the reserve for the summer of 2002 in the Yucatan for the summer I began college. Punta Laguna was one of the best experiences of my life. Most every day, I would have coffee in the very early morning in the palapa (main grass-hut house) after sleeping in my tent and the local Mayans (with whom we played soccer with on "la concha" the concrete slab which I am not sure is still there) cooked us dinner each night. I learned the local botany by studying trees and helped two PhD scientists research the indigenous spider monkeys, all while carving out trails in the jungle - the trails that began laid the foundation for the small tourism sight-seeing, ziplining thing that's going on there today. I am not claiming to be "founder of Punta Laguna tourism". The mayans are the founders of Punta Laguna if anything! Part of our Summer Program in Tropical conservation group was to energize the socio-economy of that area. My favorite parts of the experience were the long jungle hikes while creating fresh trials, the strong connection with Nature, the long sweaty, rewarding, exercise-filled days of botany, science, primatology, anthropology, Spanish speaking, and a lot of science. Because Punta Laguna one of the most beautiful jungles on our planet, let's keep Punta Laguna Nature Preserve for its beauty, rich ecology, zoology, cultural significance, and cultural heritage site status!

Punta Laguna reserve was an amazing experience. Our guide, Jesus, went above and beyond to ensure we had a magical time. We saw spider monkeys, howler monkeys, a snake and even a tarentula. After our tour, including a private cenote and zip line we had time to swim in the Laguna with our two kids. If you come to the Yucatan region, this adventure is a must! We couldn’t recommend it more!

The Zona Arqueológica de Coba offers visitors the opportunity to explore the ancient Mayan city of Cobá, with its well-preserved structures and rich history. One of the highlights is climbing Nohoch Mul, the highest pyramid in the area. Guided tours provide insights into the culture, sacrificial offerings, and historical significance of the site's symbols and natural resources.
This place is amazing! They were doing renovations but we fully enjoyed the bike ride into the forest to check out the further sites. Believe it was $8 but was covered in our private tour with quest concierge services. It is definetly a 1 of of a kind experience to bike ride through the forest to check out mayan ruins.

Not well maintained, the bicycles were nice. Infrastructure needs work. Take your own water, bug sray, and a towel. It is hot and pure jungle, of course. Entry was $150 pesos. Guide offered for 1000 pesos. We declined.

This place is full of ancient ruins, when you reach the place park your car to the closest park to the gate, it is the cheapest one. You will need about 2 hours to finish the tour. You can higher one of the guides there to have some fun learning about the Mayans. The views are beautiful on the ocean. You will find a lot of iguanas and some colored lizards 🦎. I personally liked the decending God illustration, the feet towards heaven and the head on the ground. A bird like a peacock 🦚 followed us for about 5 minutes, it didn't heart but we didn't know why. I included his photo. Don't forget always to take water with you. The people are so peaceful.

This place was amazing and our Mayan guide was very thorough with the history and the facts. We learned a lot from him, he was amazing, and our bicycle taxi person was so respectful when we had to get on and off, being two senior ladies. The weather was perfect, and they have a public bathroom outside of the ruins, so make sure to use it before you enter. They do have two entrance fees one for parking and one for the entrance fee.

This is a must do while in the vicinity. We have been back twice in two years, and every time we become more educated on what life was like an ancient times. If you are lucky enough to have Pedro as your tour guide, you will be enchanted by his storytelling of the Mayan people in life in Coba. Plan to spend a long time so you can sit quietly and peacefully among the place and listen for wildlife. We were lucky enough to see wild turkeys, iguanas, and several varieties of birds. Definitely rent bikes, but make sure they fit you well as they can become uncomfortable quickly as we learned that day.

Mayan city set directly in a jungle. Be prepared to walk in order to access both ziggurats and well worth the time to do so. Much larger than Chichen Itza and older.

What an incredible place to visit!! I’m told it’s a less popular spot to view the ruins and I cannot see why. The entry fee is very reasonable and we got a private guide which we also found very reasonable! Pedro was very informative, had great stories, and visuals. He was great with my son as well, keeping him engaged and telling age appropriate versions of the history. We HIGHLY recommend the bikes to see the second part of the site. We had so much fun riding them and I think we saw a lot more with their use. We were all thrilled to see the snack shack near the “Big Hill.” It was a little under construction when we visited in July, and I’m excited to see the improvements they are making!! I wish I could donate money to them so they could rebuild more buildings!! 6000 buildings are scattered throughout the site - but the cost is so high to uncover and maintain. And one of our favorite meals was at the restaurant that sits right outside the gates!! Restaurante Xaibe. Fabulous Sopa de Lima, handmade tortillas, and Mayan style pork!

Cenote Tankach-Ha is a stunning underground swimming hole located near the Coba archaeological zone. It offers crystal-clear blue water, fish swimming around, and multiple jumping platforms at different heights for those seeking an adrenaline rush. The cenote is hidden deep in the forest and not very popular with tourists, providing a serene and uncrowded experience. Visitors can descend through a cave to reach this beautiful cenote, where they can enjoy snorkeling or simply marvel at the majestic surroundings.
Beautiful underground cave cenote with deep turquoise water, a few cute black fishes, bats, and two jumping platforms. Bathrooms and changing rooms are available but no lockers. 100 pesos for entry. Our favourite cenote so far, absolutely stunning!

This is a cool spot, a cenote that is completely covered underground. you descend into the cenote by a spiral staircase, and there are jumping pointds at about 5 and 8 meters up the stairs. the colour of the water is a lovely bright blue, and it was lit by a floodlight. nice setting.

Super cool ambiance with crystal clear water jumping platforms and bads in the air.

Fantastic cenote. We went before the tours from Coba arrived, at around 12 o’clock, and we were the only people there! There is a 5m and 10m diving board if anyone is feeling brave enough!
Will C — Google review
Nice cenote with really deep water. It's almost uncomfortable to swim above the depth sometimes, even though you can still almost see the bottom - or maybe that's why :) It's one of the bigger ones, so it's very easy to swim in. What's unique about it are the two jumping platforms from which you can dive into the water. However, being wimps, we didn't jump in. There are very few people in it, we were alone most of the time, so you can fully enjoy the majesty of the cave. Entrance was still 100 pesos and vests were optional.
Jakub C — Google review
Stunning. Bats, fish, 5m jumping board. Wow Arrived at 9am only people in it, amazing experience.

I was genuinely scared because this place feels very spooky but after 30 min or so, I started loving it. Super calm and quiet Cenote, we were mostly alone (1 other couples) however when tour bus arrives , it gets super crowded. Shower and toilet in place but no lockers. The entrance is 100 MXP and if you want life jackets that is 50 pesos extra.

Fantastic experience! Spiral staircase to descend is a little dated, but sturdy. The view and water is stunning. The water is extremely clear. Was told the depth of the cenote is about 45 feet. Very much worth the stop. They have bathroom changing areas as well, and life jackets to rent.

Hidden cenote that is off the beaten path. 100 pesos to enter. Life jackets are available but not mandatory. Went early afternoon on a weekday, and at most, their were 8 other people swimming. At one point I was the only one swimming. Spent 2 hours. Bring your own food/snacks as their are none available to purchase. Also FYI their generator is a little loud but it didn't bother me.

This is an awesome site. We didn't get in the water, but others said it was a nice temperature. The water was a clear blue-green. The cavern is amazing. A must- visit. No words from me can truly describe this wonder.

Nice cavern Cenote with very clear water near Coba. Price without swimming is 100 Pesos, if you like to swim you to pay an upcharge of 50Pesos for the mandatory vests.

Highlight of our trip in Mexico. You need to go down 18 meters below the surface though a rather large stairway and then you got to a wooden platform from which you can access the amazingly fresh water. Only costs 100 pesos per person and well taken care of. We got there around noon and there was only about a dozen other people, which was amazing. Would definitely go back. Oh and bring some water googles so you can see the bottom of the cenote.

Cenote Maya Park is a breathtaking gem nestled in the Yucatan Peninsula, renowned for its stunning natural beauty and rich Mayan heritage. This expansive cenote, plunging to depths of 17 meters (55 feet), offers an exhilarating blend of adventure and cultural immersion. Visitors can enjoy swimming in its crystal-clear waters while learning about the fascinating Mayan civilization that surrounds it.
Best cenote we visited (& we visited 8) It was high season but we arrived as soon as it open, so we had the whole place for ourselves There is rappel, Ziplines, kayaking, lockers, bathrooms, showers. It was a lot of fun!! Just be mindful it is not as accessible (narrow roads to get there) but it is worthy.

Off the beaten track but no problems getting there with a car. Arrived around lunchtime, a few people were just leaving and we the place to ourselves. The Cenote itself is pretty awe inspiring. Access by stairs or a 20m abseil. My son was very nervous about the rope descent but we went down side by side on two ropes and the staff were friendly and considerate. Water is pretty nippy but you get used to it. Variety of zip lines and platforms to jump in from. Overall brilliant experience and well worth the money. Also had the buffet food, nothing fancy but perfectly good. 490 mxn each inclusive.

This cenote is absolutely worth a visit. We came in low season and had the cenote with its fun activities to ourselves for around an hour. If you enjoy an adrenaline kick, the Rappel from approx. 20m is a fun thing to do. There is also a zip line and different platforms to jump from. The staff was super helpful and friendly. During our stay they were building another zip line for kids. The fact that there were no hammocks as promoted and no restaurant service did not bother us much as we enjoyed the tranquility which you find there compared to other very busy cenotes.

Beautiful place, with very good food, the cenote is incredible and is the largest I have seen in my life, the rappelling is very fun along with the zip lines and large green areas to walk, highly recommended

Beautiful cenote turned into a bit of a Disneyland type attraction. $49 US to enter (includes rappelling into it, zip lining inside and food, $39US without food). No cameras allowed so you will pay $30US to $60US to get the pictures they take of you inside. If you want the same type cenote without rappelling and zip line for $5US (100 pesos) go to cenote X’ux Ha. You can take all the pictures you want there.

Cenote Zaci, also known as Cenote Zacil-ha, is a stunning open-air cenote located in the heart of Valladolid. Despite being situated in the midst of the hot and humid city, it offers a peaceful and beautiful escape from the urban hustle. This semi-open cenote is popular for activities like swimming, cliff jumping, and snorkeling (no scuba diving).
✅ Positives: Beautiful cenote with plenty of jump spots and a waterfall. Located right in the middle of Valladolid, making it convenient if you want to explore the city and grab food afterward. Life jackets are mandatory and included with the ticket (MXN 150 per person). We went on a weekend and it was busy with locals — try a weekday for fewer crowds. 🤷 OK: Water isn’t as crystal clear as some other cenotes, but still very beautiful. ❌ Negatives: Can get very crowded, especially on weekends. Limited places to store your bags. You even get charged for toilet paper when using the restroom (MXN 8). Overall: Scenic and centrally located cenote, great for a quick swim if you’re exploring Valladolid, but best visited on a quieter weekday.

The price at the front gate is 150 pesos which includes the life jacket. The price is NOT 300 pesos and the life jacket is NOT extra. Careful of the gatekeeper.

Value for money At €.60 per person, children half price including life jackets, toilet. Definitely value for money. I'm sure the other centres around valladolid are beautiful too, but most being around 350 pesos can't justify the prices. Not crowded, cool and refreshing l. Well worth the visit!
Michelle H — Google review
It's a very nice place. My wife and I arrived at 9:30am and were the first people there. We paid 150 pesos each, which included entry and a life vest. It's compulsory to wear the life vest when swimming. The water was lovely and very refreshing. There is a great jumping platform for anyone who dares. It's a good way to start your day.
Dominik L — Google review
Perfect hideout in the city of Valladolid, to remove yourself from the streets, and the heat of day. Convenient to everything, just a short walk from downtown, this oasis is lush, serene with deep green cool water. Dive in, jump in or just float your cares away. Its the best peso you will spend in the city. Suspend time in this tranquil location.
Laine A — Google review
Good price for what you get. Today they decided to close early at 16h20 (it says they close at 17h00). Plan accordingly. I’ve been to dirtier and cleaner cenotes. The convenience of having it this close to the centre is great. A fun 15-20 foot jump off you can use as well, you do unfortunately always have to wear a life jacket, thankfully it comes with the ticket.
John G — Google review
Awesome experience at zaci senote. Many mentioned all good things. In downtown valladolid, super cheap to enter, only 60 pesos. Its half open so sun can get in and you can hide from the sun if its super hot. 5-6 meter jump platform is very cool. You dont see that very often. Can get crowded but they limit the amount of people that can get it. Very cool experience with lots of locals. I’ll definitely come back when next in town
Sarunas V — Google review
Loved this half open Cenote in the city that is wildly easy to access and inexpensive. Feels a bit artificial (the water for the waterfall comes from a visible pipe). The 3 meters platform to jump from is challenging and fun, possibly slightly dangerous if you end up landing wrong. Lifevest is required and that rule is enforced. The shops nearby have better quality products than we've seen elsewhere.

Casa de los Venados is a hidden gem in Valladolid, offering a unique and intimate museum experience within a private home. The collection boasts over 3,000 pieces of Mexican folk art, presented in the original context they were designed for. Visitors can enjoy tours in English or Spanish, learning about the origins of important pieces and the history of the colonial mansion that houses them. This colorful and diverse collection provides an immersive look into Mexican art and culture.
Absolutely beautiful!! Great tour, great tour guides and an absolutely incredible collection of Mexican folklore and art. Also very unique as it’s a house rather than a museum. So the owners even live there still and the only part you can’t access is their room. Such a fun experience for all ages! Best part is, the admission cost (100 pesos) all goes directly to charity. They’ve done a lot great work. Must see!!

Absolutely stunning private art collection of an American couple, who made their private house into a museum. You can visit with a very interesting guided tour, no tickets or reservation needed, only 100 pesos/person donation which goes to local charity. Loved it, thank you! 😍

Totally worth the visit if you are in Valladolid! This is a private collection of over 3,000 pieces of Mexican folk art from different states of Mexico. Every inch of the house is filled with incredible works of art. Since this is a private house, you have to arrive for one of the guided tours, you can not enter the house freely. There are 5 guided tours daily. One tour for sure starts at 1pm, but I did not catch the start times for the other tours of the day. A donation of 100 pesos/5 US dollars is collected at the end of the tour.

Incredible and amazing collection, so glad we fit this visit into our time in the lovely town of Valodolid. Not only is the collection spectacular the connection to the local community is heartwarming, all donations go to local charities .I hope to return to Casa de los Venados many times and share this experience with friends and family when doing so.

About an hour tour in this quirky house full of Mexican folk art. David speaks perfect enough and gave us a good idea of what the house is like and some interesting facts about the art. $100 suggested donation at the end.
Steph C — Google review
Sergio was the most wonderful friendly and knowledgeable guide. We really enjoyed our visit around the house and appreciated that we were allowed to wander and ask as many questions about the pieces of art as we wanted. We felt very fortunate to be only a group of 4 people in total, as Sergio mentioned it can get very busy which I imagine would change the experience.

A must visit if you are in Valladolid and interested in Mexican craftmanship. Tours run daily at 10, 11:30, 13, 14 and 15. A contribution of 100 pesos is suggested but not compulsory, and will be directed to local charities. Including a couple of pictures to give an idea but won't spoil the surprise with the best gems :)

Amazing!!!! I have my doubts at first, but it was an incredible surprise!! Totally worth the visit, for 5 usd donation. I will come back.

Sights & Landmarks
Convento de San Bernardino de Siena, located in Valladolid, is a significant colonial site dating back to the mid-16th century. It served as a Franciscan headquarters and played a crucial role in the early conversion of the local Mayan population to Christianity. The convent features original elements, including centuries-old walkways and a peaceful courtyard. Visitors can explore the small museum, which showcases discoveries related to cenotes and artifacts found within them.
Went to the evening light show. (there's also another one elsewhere in the city). Was neat, but the sound that goes with the show had an echo so it was a bit hard to understand the story. Runs in Spanish and then English shortly after. Neat little stop after a late dinner nearby.

Ex Convento de San Bernardino de Siena is definitely worth seeing. The design is unique, and there's quite a bit to explore inside. The entrance fee of 20 MXN is minimal, making it a great value for what you get. Definitely recommend stopping by if you are in Valladolid!

A beautiful and historic place to visit in Valladolid! The Convento de San Bernardino de Siena has so much charm and atmosphere. The entrance fee is very affordable (20 pesos), and inside you’ll find not only the impressive old church but also photo exhibitions that give more context to the history of the convent. The grounds are peaceful and lovely to walk around — there’s an old well, as well as avocado and banana trees that add to the unique vibe of the place. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Valladolid, whether for the history, the architecture, or just to enjoy the quiet and beauty of the convent.

I wishit has monks inside, also I wish that we can be missionaries like the first people. Two interesting things inside this monastery, first is the well outside in the garden area, second is the exhibition. One of the photos inside the exhibition was about the underground excavations showing divers inside a big water cave. Nice park outside to sit and watch. I took some photos for the cloud outside ( can you find the rainbow in the cloud? ). Entrance about $2 US dollars and it worth to pay it. If they make access to the water cave area and charge $25 I will pay. I want to mention also the night light show on the building, see the photos. The show starts in Spanish at 9:00 and will be followed about 9:20 in English.

A simple but large homage to San Bernadino. At night, I believe at 9pm, the convent features beautiful light show cast upon the convent. Worthwhile visit if youre in Valladolid.

We went on a Sunday just before closing. We were about the only ones there. That diagonal road that leads from near the square to the Convent is a nice walk. Lots of good places to eat.

Augmented reality that uses the old convent building as a screen. The history of Valladolid told in an interesting and very pleasing to the eye way. There are presentations in English and Spanish.

Very interesting place inside and out. See the light show in the evening and watch a colorful overview of Valladolid history. During the day you can visit inside for more details.

Sights & Landmarks
The Zona Arqueológica de Ek Balam is an ancient Mayan village dating back to the 8th century, located near Valladolid in the Yucatan Peninsula. Despite being less famous than other archaeological sites in the region, it boasts a remarkable pyramid called the Acropolis, adorned with intricate sculptures and decorations. Visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding jungle.
We visited Ek’ Balam and had a wonderful experience. The site wasn’t crowded at all — only a few cars in the large parking lot — which made it feel calm and special. Around the parking area, you can find small shops with souvenirs, snacks, and drinks. Tickets are purchased at the ticket office (580 pesos per adult, 100 for a child), and there’s also the option to hire a tour guide for an extra fee. The archaeological site itself is spacious but easy to navigate. You’re allowed to climb most of the pyramids, and where it’s not permitted, clear “no climb” signs are posted. We spent about 2 hours exploring and felt it was the perfect amount of time to enjoy everything. A few tips: bring enough water, wear comfortable clothes, and prepare for the heat with sunscreen — it was very hot when we visited. Overall, Ek’ Balam is an amazing site to explore, less busy than some of the more famous ruins, and definitely worth the visit!

The place is amazing by itself, it's huge! Part of the main structure is still covered and some areas are well preserved. Two main parts on the side are still covered by jungle. Unfortunately had a bad experience with the guide. First they tell you a price and a different one at the end. Be aware of that! Everything else was good.

Great to see how they are treating their dogs! 581 Pesos perPerson +100 Pesos for parking Definitely worth it if you like temples. Sweaty of course but you get your great view as a reward. 32m height🤝

We actually loved the experience. We didn't take a guided tour but there was so much information on the signes at the site. We also used gpt to fill in the story. Plus, roaming there int the jungle was a fun experience, there weren't a lot of people so we got really nice pictures. And the best part is that you can climb all the buildings and imagine you're a Mayan for a second 😉. Plus the view is amazing. We have been to Chichén Itza the day before and the experience there was a lot less authentic. There isn't a lot of information and it's much pricier. Plus there are soany people and no option to climb or even get near the buildings.

This was an amazing site to visit! We went with a tour company and saw Chichen Itza first, then to Ek Balam, and the differences were interesting. Ek Balam was not busy at all compared to Chichen Itza, and you actually got to climb up the main temple and several other structures, which isn't allowed at the more famous ruins. Highly recommend! checking it out!!

Ek Balam is hands down the BEST Mayan ruins we have been to. Better than Cobs better than Tulum ( by far) I'm not a historian or huge fan of ruins, but I really enjoyed this place. Suggest getting a paid tour guide who can tell you about the very interesting history. The site is 9 meters higher than Chitchen Itza AND you can still climb to the highest point on many of the ruins. skip the crowds at Chicken itsa....this is waaaay better. Plus be sure to bring your swim suits because they have 4 beautiful cenotes to swim in around nearby. Make a whole day of it and you won't be sorry.
John M — Google review
Nice! You get to experience some Maya ruins without the trouble of too many other tourists if you go early or late enough. And for now there is also the option to go on top of some of the buildings. You can't go inside or in top of everything but still more than at othe sites. Go here if you want to have an interactive Maya experience. Also not a lot of vendors. Pleasent experience!
Joe J — Google review
Very cool ruin you can climb, for now. Its a 2 hour drive from Tulum. It was about $32 a person to get in and you can get a private tour by one of the local guides for $30. The private tour was worth it as you get a little more detail and history. Ek Balam is not for the faint of heart to climb. Going up is easier than coming down. We ended up spending about 2 hours there listening to the Tour Guide and then had time to venture around on our own.

Cenote Xkeken is a stunning cave with a breathtaking natural swimming pool and remarkable stalactites. Despite the pandemic, they offer various facilities except for food. It is compulsory to wear a life jacket while swimming in the crystal-clear and refreshing water. The cave boasts an impressive array of fish that give you an added bonus of a pedicure if you remain still. Overall, this picturesque cavern is an amazing tourist attraction that offers great services and unforgettable experiences.
Cenote Xkekén was stunning—a magical underground pool with crystal-clear water and dramatic cave formations. The light filtering through the small opening above made it feel like something out of a dream. It’s refreshing, peaceful, and a perfect place to cool off. A hidden gem worth the visit!

We got caught in the rain that day, so it wasn't the greatest experience but we had a blast in the cenotes. It's like a total different world down there. The staff is really friendly, the only thing I can say was a bad thing, and not really bad, but hoping they can address the issue is that the life jackets we rented reak bad. Pretty cool place to spend the day with friends and family.

There are no words when it comes to this place so it’s ok to leave your mouth hanging open; just don’t forget to close it when swimming lol. My group was blessed by a local shaman and then allowed to enter the sacred Cenote. I had never done something like this before, and it was awe-inspiring how majestical this wondrous place is. I hope I get to visit again one day! 🌎🤩✨ (Part of the Chichén Itzá por XCaret package)

coming from cenote suytun here with zero expectation, i was blown away when i entered the cenote with the sunlight shining through the hole.. very nice and beautiful! it was a 12pm friday and not a lot of tourists here, less than 5 people for each cenote.. totally worth the experience.. my only comment is the guy who followed me kept asking for tips, i tipped him 20 pesos..
Ryan C — Google review
Wonderful surprise! We had no expectations, but we went at the opening (around 8:30am) and there was nobody, so we took amazing photos and it is possible to swim. Definitely worth it, especially because a local guide leads you to the other adjacent Cenotes like Dzinup. After my trip i would say that a visit is mandatory!!!

Beautiful cenote. Quit dark, let your eyes get used to the darkness. I was there at 10.30am and there was no body else! The water is cristal clear. For both the Samula and Xkeken cenote you pay 226 pesos, a very good price! Very good facilities; showers, toilets and dressing rooms. Also tiny black fishes swimming around. It's a magical cenote!
Sanne — Google review
Super nice experience. Decent entry fee for what you get. Lovely people working for tips (they come to you as guides but you most likely don't need one). The bathrooms and changing rooms at xkeken were the nicest I've seen in the country so far. 2 cave pools for the price of one (200MXP). New fresh life vests. Quite a lot of freedom to enjoy the place and no time limit.

Chichén Itzá is an ancient Maya city located in Yucatan, Mexico. The name "Chichen Itza" translates to "at the edge of the Itza's well," reflecting its significance to the Itza people. This majestic city rose to power around 600 AD and declined by 1000 AD. The site features excavated ruins, including an iconic step pyramid known as El Castillo, a sacred cenote, and an observatory.
An awe-inspiring wonder of the world and a must-visit when in Mexico. Chichén Itzá offers a fascinating glimpse into Mayan history and architecture, with the iconic El Castillo pyramid standing as its centerpiece. The site is well-preserved and full of detailed carvings, ancient ball courts, and sacred cenotes that tell incredible stories of the past. It’s best to arrive early to avoid crowds and the midday heat. Bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes. A truly unforgettable experience rich in history and culture.

⭐️ “An Unforgettable Journey Through History at Chichén Itzá” Visiting Chichén Itzá in Yucatán, Mexico was one of the most impressive experiences I’ve had while traveling. The entire archaeological site feels like stepping directly into the past, surrounded by ancient temples, detailed stone carvings, and structures that show the power, beliefs, and engineering brilliance of the Maya civilization. Even with thousands of visitors walking around the grounds, the site is so large, open, and well-organized that it never feels overcrowded. The main pyramid, El Castillo (Temple of Kukulcán), is absolutely stunning up close. You can’t climb the steps anymore due to a past incident, but honestly, the view from the ground is spectacular and allows you to take clean, unobstructed photos from every angle. The clouds and sky around the pyramid make every picture look dramatic and powerful. Walking further into the complex, I explored the Temple of the Warriors, the Columns, the Ball Court, and several additional structures tucked between trees and open plazas. Each area has its own unique style and atmosphere, and you can easily spend hours wandering, learning, and imagining the ceremonies, rituals, and daily life that once took place here. There are also restrooms on-site, which were clean and well-maintained, and a large area of market stalls with locals selling souvenirs, handmade crafts, hats, decorative items, and traditional art. The selection is huge, and the vendors are friendly and welcoming. The entire area is very organized, easy to navigate, and perfect for photography, history lovers, and anyone traveling through Yucatán. Chichén Itzá is a true Wonder of the World and definitely worth the visit. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Mexico. 🇲🇽📸

Must see. One of the new Seven Wonders of the World. It was kind of hot when we visited so stay hydrated and bring a hat and sunscreen. No drones allowed as well as no cigarettes or e-cigs. Be respectful of the cultural site. Was funny to hear that the losers AND winners would be sacrificed. Normally you'd think it'd be the losers, but the Mayans wanted to send the Gods their best people. There's lots of people trying to sell you things along the path. Interesting to see anime and pop culture stuff being sold. Apparently Mayans decended from Mongolians who traveled across the Bering Straight. Mayan civilizations range from Guatemala to southern Mexico.

Blessed to visit for a second time. This place is a truly remarkable heritage site with architecture and history of the Mayan culture. It’s believed 5k people once resided here. How they designed and built these structures are just amazing.

Amazing place - one of the seven wonders of the world. Get a knowledgeable guide and take your time to explore the site and understand everything you can about Mayan history. Lots of gift sellers on the way in and out. Be prepared for some walking - the site is quite large. On hot days there is some limited shade under trees. Visit at the spring or autumn equinox for an extra treat. Definitely worth a visit.

Chichén Ítza felt like visiting another place in time. The sites of the pyramid, temples, platforms, ball court, observatory, and sacred centoe were stunning. Having insight into the history of each and purpose brought each to life. Definitely more than worth a visit for anyone into history.

We had an amazing experience visiting Chichen Itza through Mexico Travel Solutions. The tour was very well organized, with comfortable bus transportation and our English-speaking guide, Andres, who was incredibly knowledgeable. He shared fascinating information and stories about the history and culture of Chichen Itza, making the entire tour both educational and enjoyable. The lunch buffet at Tsukan Restaurant was delicious, offering a great variety of local dishes. We also had the chance to swim in a beautiful cenote, which was an absolutely magical and refreshing experience after exploring the site. Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with history, culture, great food, and natural beauty. We highly recommend this tour and Mexico Travel Solutions to anyone visiting Cancun or the Yucatán!

Chichén Itzá absolutely lives up to its reputation as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. This historic site is simply incredible and a must-see wonder! The breathtaking scale and preservation of the ruins are astounding. El Castillo (the main pyramid) is magnificent, and its architectural precision—given it was built over a thousand years ago—is truly mind-blowing. The fascinating acoustics in the great ball court, where a whisper can be heard from one end to the other, demonstrate the Mayans' advanced knowledge. Every structure, from the Temple of Warriors to the Observatory, tells a rich story of the advanced Mayan civilization. The extraordinary level of detail and craftsmanship in the carvings and stonework is evident throughout. This is a bucket-list destination that will not disappoint. The history, the architecture, and the sheer presence of this ancient city are awe-inspiring.

El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulcan, is a restored step-pyramid and Maya temple located at the Chichen Itza archaeological site. This iconic structure is considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World for its symmetric beauty and detailed masonry. Once used as a temple to Kukulcan, the Winged Serpent deity, El Castillo emanates a powerful energy that captivates visitors.
I understand now why they call it the next wonder of the world. When you’re in a space like this, you feel like you’ve gone back in time everything is in such pristine historic condition. It is such a beautiful thing to be able to witness such an impactful point in history. There’s also a lot of people there that are just also there with you there to visit in awe. Recommend - bring cash so you can spend some money on the locals who are selling items there. They don’t allow anyone to sell their if they are not a descendent of that culture. Which I love.

We booked a tour to Chichen Itza from downtown Cancun and really enjoyed it. The site is beautiful and full of history, with lots of guides if you want to learn more. Just be prepared—it’s very hot and humid, so bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water. The only downside was the number of vendors inside, which makes it harder to just walk around and enjoy the place without constant interruptions.

It is a great location, one of the seven wonders of the world, but our tour guide was awful. At the actual pyramid, we spent 20 minutes looking at him while he talked, with our backs to the thing we had travelled thousands of miles to see. On the bus on the way there we had a 30 minute commercial about the Mayan calendar, and a totally unnecessary stop at a shop who thought we were all born yesterday. Nobody bought a damned thing, because they charged about 10 times what anything was worth. It was great to see a wonder of the world, the trip could have been organised and scheduled so much better.

Absolutely Breathtaking! A Masterpiece of Astronomy So happy I finally got to see the Pyramide de Kukulcán (El Castillo) in person. It's absolutely breathtaking and was a truly profound experience. It wasn't as crowded as I expected for such a major world wonder, but I would still strongly recommend getting there right as it opens to beat the heat and the crowds. Interesting fact: This pyramid is essentially a giant, stone calendar. It has exactly 365 steps in total (91 steps on each of the four sides, plus the platform on top), representing every day of the solar year! A testament to the Maya's incredible architectural and astronomical knowledge. A must-see site!

Another unique place in the world. 🤷 Chichen Itza is an ancient city of the Mayans and Toltecs on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. 👉🇲🇽 💚🤍❤️🇲🇽👈 In translation, the name means "at the well of the Itza tribe". ✍️ During my walk, I realized something very important. 🚨 Most people think, like me, that the entire Chichen Itza complex is one of the 7 wonders of the world. 😉 But alas, it is not so...👊 Only the Kukulkan pyramid itself is one of the 7 wonders of the world! 🌍 This place is one of the most interesting and mystical in the whole world. 👌
Exploring I — Google review
El Castillo (Temple of Kukulcán) is the famous pyramid: each of its four sides has 91 steps; plus the top platform makes 365 steps in total — one for each day of the solar year. During spring and autumn equinoxes, the setting sun casts a series of triangles of shadow on one side of the pyramid’s stairs which look like a serpent (Kukulkan) “descending”. Kukulcán / Feathered Serpent The serpent figure plays a central mythological role. Kukulcán is a feathered serpent deity. The equinox “descent of the serpent” shadow effect ties architecture to myth, making the pyramid an astronomical calendar and mythic stage at once. This is one of the most powerful images: the idea of geometry, light, myth converging in one building. Light & shadow are dramatic. During the equinox, the angle of the sun causes the shadows on the pyramid stairs to look like a snake descending. A visual metaphor you can evoke. Chichén Itzá isn’t just architecture; it’s poetry in stone, guided by stars, ritual, and water. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Also voted among the New Seven Wonders of the World.

We absolutely loved our tour of chichen itza. Thanks to our local mayan guide. We opt for a private guided tour as we feel that we have come a very long way and its worth spending the money. Our guide did go on a bit about the calender, but also gave us great history and insights to this wonderful and spectacular site.

Enjoyed seeing the ruins and learning about the history. Plenty of guides but we chose to do the site independently. Park inside the area- your car and belongings will be safer and you'll be closer to the entrance. Downside- too many vendors inside the ruins. We felt bombarded at every turn. Not fun for us.

Sacred Cenote, also known as Cenote Zaci, is a renowned Mayan archaeological site and remote lake with facilities such as showers and changing rooms. The area features notable attractions like the well-preserved ball court, the temple of a thousand warriors' columns, and the skull platform. This cenote served as a water source and was used for sacrificial rituals during droughts. Currently undergoing renovation, it's advisable to check availability before visiting if staying outside Valladolid.
We absolutely loved our experience with Sound Healing Tulum. It was wonderful and we will definitely do this again! The cenote is beautiful!

No you cannot swim in the sacred cenote and you also couldn't before. They used this cenote for sacrificial rituals and found bones of multiple bodies previously inside. The cenote is about 400 meters away (15 minute walk) from the "main parts" of chichen itza. So you can easily go there for a visit.

I don’t understand why people keep posting wrong and misleading information! This is a sacred cenote in Mayan culture (hence the name) and it’s (and always was) forbidden to swim here. It is a part of historical site located inside Chichén Itzá. It is not the most beautiful cenote, but worth the visit if you have extra time to walk in this direction (takes approximately 15 min one way from El Castillo pyramid). If you short on time I would suggest spending it at more significant sights and just read the legend about the cenote.

Amazing place to visit has a lot of adventures, lovely nature and amazing people. This place has a lot of history that will surprise you. It is a great place to relax yourself with the family. I will come here and visit again at anytime.

Like all of the cenotes I visited in Mexico each has something special about them. This one inside Chichen Itza was hard to view but nonetheless interesting. Was told that they’ve found gold trinkets, pottery and bones in the bottom. Sacrificing? Most probably but yet to be confirmed. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Included in the entrance fee. A lot of vendors on the path on the way to the cenote. Refreshments available st entrance. Good toilets nearby.

It is a piece of heaven on the way to Chichen Itza. I like this Cenote mora than the other one on the way to Tulum. It is more naand gorgeous place to swim.

One of the best excursions I have been on.

I got there because of the tourist guide tours. It is very wonderful. You need to rent a vest to be able to swim. I would recommend to rent a car and go there yourself for tourist tours don't give you enough time.

Gran Juego de Pelota

The Gran Juego de Pelota, located on the west side of the plaza in Chichen Itza, is one of the largest ball-courts ever discovered. The design features a capital surrounded by temples and goals halfway along each side. The winner of this game would sacrifice themselves for rain and crops, making it a great honor for the Maya people.
The great ballcourt in Chichen Itza is an impressive ruin that was once among the largest ballcourts in Mesoamerica. Our guide explained that the ritualistic game of Pok Ta’ Pok played here involved 2 teams competing to move a heavy rubber ball in the air into a stone hoop over 20 ft on the wall. This was a spectacular for the populace and way for the rulers to control power. The stone inscriptions detailed how the captain of one team (likely the losing team) was ceremoniously honourably sacrificed to the gods at the end of the match. Shocking!

Incredibly magical! There are no words to describe how incredibly beautiful this place is. Please use lots of sunscreen because the sun can be harsh on your skin. Apart from that, you'll have a great educational time and learn a lot about the importance of this game to the Mayan culture.

The Gran Juego de Pelota at Chichen Itza is the largest ancient Maya ball court, measuring over 500 feet long. It’s a stunning example of Mesoamerican architecture with high walls and stone rings. Visitors can imagine intense ritual games played with a rubber ball, often tied to cosmology and sacrifice. The acoustics are impressive, amplifying sounds dramatically. A must-see for anyone interested in history and archaeology—truly captivating!

The ball court at Chichen Itza was one of the most memorable parts of our visit. Our guide told us about the ancient game, its unusual rules, and the role it played in Mayan culture. The acoustics are truly impressive—you can hear how sound carries across the whole space. It’s a unique experience that you really need to see and hear for yourself.

The Great Ball Court is the largest and best-preserved ball court in Mesoamerica. Dimensions: 168 m long (551 ft) and 70 m wide (230 ft) — enormous compared to others found across the Maya world. The walls are 8 m (26 ft) high, with vertical sides and decorative reliefs showing players, captains, and what appear to be decapitation scenes. At the center of each long wall sits a stone ring, about 6 m (20 ft) above the court, carved with entwined feathered serpents — the goal. The Game Itself: Pok-Ta-Pok or Pitz It was a sacred ball game — part sport, part ritual, and part cosmic drama. Rules (as best historians can reconstruct) Because no full written rulebook survived, archaeologists pieced it together from murals, figurines, and Spanish descriptions. Players used a rubber ball, heavy (about 4 kg / 9 lb), solid and bouncy. The goal was to keep the ball in play and, ideally, get it through the stone ring (which was extremely difficult). You could not use your hands or feet — only hips, shoulders, elbows, knees. Teams could have 2 to 7 players, often with protective gear (belts, pads). A single successful shot through the ring might end the game outright — a nearly miraculous event. Acoustics & Architecture Clap your hands anywhere in the court — you’ll hear a sharp echo that bounces multiple times, like a rattlesnake’s hiss. This isn’t accidental. The feathered serpent god Kukulcán is tied to both the serpent sound and the equinox light show at the nearby pyramid. The court’s design may have allowed crowds or priests at either end to communicate or amplify chants, creating a ritual soundscape. The acoustics are remarkable. Whispers or sounds at one end of the court can be heard clearly at the other. There are many “sacbeob” (raised stone roads) that connected buildings and likely nearby sites. In the Great Ball Court you don’t just see history, you hear it: whispers carry across the stone like echoes from a distant past.

We had a tour guide so it was an amazing education about ancient Mayans, and a beautiful historical site. We were there on the spring equinox so it was a mob scene, but very cool to be there on that day.

My visit to Chichen Itzá was truly an unforgettable experience that left me in awe of the ancient wonders of the Mayan civilization. The tour provided a wealth of information that enriched my understanding of this historical site, which is rightfully recognized as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The sights at Chichen Itzá were nothing short of breathtaking, with each structure revealing the architectural ingenuity and cultural significance of the Mayan people. The intricate carvings, towering pyramids, and expansive plazas painted a vivid picture of a civilization that thrived centuries ago. One of the most impressive features of Chichen Itzá is the Temple of Kukulcán, also known as El Castillo. This iconic pyramid showcases the Mayans' advanced knowledge of astronomy and mathematics, as demonstrated by its alignment with the sun's movements during the equinoxes. The sight of the serpent-like shadow descending the steps is a testament to the Mayans' mastery of architectural precision and celestial observation. While exploring the site, I was struck by the sheer magnitude and beauty of the Mayan temples, each offering a glimpse into a world steeped in myth, ritual, and spiritual devotion. The Great Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors, and the Observatory stood as remarkable testaments to the Mayans' architectural prowess and cultural sophistication. It's worth noting that the Mayan civilization is distinct from the Aztec civilization, with each leaving behind a unique legacy of art, architecture, and knowledge. The Mayans, who inhabited the Yucatán Peninsula and surrounding regions, crafted intricate temples and monuments that continue to captivate visitors with their grandeur and symbolism. In conclusion, my visit to Chichen Itzá was a mesmerizing journey through time, where the wonders of the Mayan civilization unfolded before my eyes. The combination of stunning architecture, rich history, and expertly guided tours made this experience truly unforgettable. Chichen Itzá stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Mayan people and their extraordinary achievements in art, science, and culture.

This is another section within the big Chichen-Itzá archeological area in Yucatan Mexico. Ball game was very popular in the Mayan culture. It was a big honor to be the winner and be a sacrifice for the gods. The walls for the game are very wide and tall Wondering how well trained needed to be all the players for this game. 🏀
