There are also, some interesting architectural concepts intended to match with the content of the botanical garden that are worth of admiring. Interesting little museum. It definitely gives a better feel for the history of the area, from the recent past to way back. Be sure to go up onto the roof for amazing views of the city and beyond. A worthy way to spend a couple of hours if you are visiting El Fuerte.
Sherry M — Google review
The cholo security guard made it uncomfortable to walk around. He followed us and stalked us the whole way through. Then he made uncomfortable questions like where we were from, what hotel we were staying at, and what car we drove. The view was great though.
Kakarot — Google review
Despite some shortcomings of the exhibition space (loud music, unfortunate taxidermy - see attached) this place is pretty spectacular. An original 16th century fort built to defend against local, unweilding tribespeople. Climb up for a fabulous view of the river and watch the sun set over the protected hunting grounds. If the museum had explained the story of this place better, maybe with more information about the people who shaped it - rather than a bunch of 19th century photos (interesting, but given no context), this would definitely rank 5*

Parque La Ruina, situated in the heart of Hermosillo, Mexico, is a captivating destination that seamlessly blends history, culture, and natural allure. The park boasts the remnants of an ancient Spanish colonial-era Hacienda from the 18th century. It has been transformed into a vibrant cultural and gastronomic space featuring art galleries, live music performances, food trucks offering delectable cuisine options, craft beer stands, and cozy coffee shops.
Fun spot to visit! They have a great variety of food trucks with different options like pizza, sushi, and more. My personal favorite are the ribs they’re honestly the main reason I keep going back, they’re that good! They also have little electric cars for kids to ride, and my son always has the best time with those. The atmosphere is relaxed and perfect for hanging out with family or friends while enjoying good food. I definitely recommend checking it out, especially if you love ribs as much as I do!

I absolutely adore this place, as a tourist it gives you everything you want, the food is incredible and the live music is a plus, La Ruina Park is very clean and the atmosphere is very lively especially at night, just walking around this park put a smile on my face, I stopped for tacos out of one of the many food trucks available to eat from and they were exceptional, if you are ever looking for something to do on the weekend at night I highly recommend you come to La Ruina Park.

Lavender Pit

Mentioned on
20 lists
Scenic spot
Sights & Landmarks
Mines
Lavender Pit is a former open-pit copper mine located near the famous Copper Queen Mine in Bisbee, Arizona. Despite its name, it's not actually colored purple; rather, it was named after Harrison M. Lavender, who played a significant role in turning the unprofitable low-grade copper-bearing rock in the area into commercial copper ore.
Easy access right off of the highway, plenty of parking, just watch your speed and angle due to the entrance height. Amazing views of the different excavations that took place and plenty of info to learn about its history. Definitely stop here is you are going to or coming from Bisbee. They even have cutouts in the fencing for you to put your camera through for pictures.
Christian A — Google review
This is a cool stop. There’s ample parking. The fence surrounding the lavender pit has cutouts so that you can take photos. It is a very interesting site. There’s also 2 memorials in the parking area.
Nelida S — Google review
I only give it 4 stars instead of 5 because their parking lot/driveway is garbage. It could be a really nice place to visit if they fixed the pavement. I like how they made slots in the fencing so that you can stick your phone through to keep the linkage out of your shots. Very cool!
Anthony M — Google review
Really awesome can see how zig zagged thier way down into ground. Wish were able to see more of it like on others side to the right where is dug down as deep. Like cut outs have in fence to take pictures.
Tammy R — Google review
While I am saddened by what we humans have done to Mother Earth, this huge hole in the ground does inspire awe. It's amazing what people have been able to achieve. This mine is a testament to human industry. While the average onlooker cannot go into the mine, it's free to stop in this outdoor visitor center of sorts and read about mining history and look out over the pit. Looking at this massive excavation does make one feel small.
Cee G — Google review
This is less than five minutes outside of Bisbee. I highly recommend it. It is absolutely free, no wait the size, the colors and the views are breathtaking.
Lou G — Google review
The size and scope of this is immense – it’s worth it to stop quickly and take a look at the hole in the ground through the hole in the fence.
Bruce B — Google review
It's a pit! No lavender tho because the pit was named after Harrison M. Lavender, a mining engineer and executive for Phelps Dodge Corporation 😁

Explore the fascinating history of mining at the Queen Mine Tour in Bisbee, Arizona. Dating back to the late 1870s, this century-old underground complex offers hard-hat tours that take visitors on a journey through time. Led by knowledgeable tour guides, including retired Phelps Dodge employees, visitors descend 1,500 feet into the mine to learn about mining techniques, dangers, and dramatic stories from the past.
Tickets were sold out, very glad we purchased them ahead of time. The kids absolutely loved it. We’ll definitely go again. The gift shop was really nice and there was also the cool rocks that we got.
Alex C — Google review
This mine tour was so much fun! They give you a hard hat, vest, and a light. The train ride is really cool too! Our guide definitely knew what he was talking about and answered our groups questions. The cave we toured through is wide open. As someone with claustrophobia, I felt safe and comfortable. I would definitely recommend!
Courtney I — Google review
What a unique experience! The Queen Mine Tour was the highlight of our trip to Bisbee. Our guide, Neil shared real-life stories from his time working in the mine, and you could feel his passion for the history and the company (Phelps Dodge Corporation). The tour was well organized, informative, and fun. A must-do if you’re visiting Bisbee!
Niranda W — Google review
The queen Mine Tour was really enjoyable! It was pretty accessible to most parties, and the employees were very accommodating if anyone had any difficulties with the space of the mines. The tour itself was very informative if you're interested in the mining process and the history of the town. The visitor center has lots of gift/ souvenir options. It is within walking distance of the town. I drove an electric vehicle and was able to charge it at one of the Chargepoints in town while I enjoyed sightseeing and this tour.
NoCue — Google review
Absolute must do in Bisbee!!! When you arrive you’ll get outfitted with a hard hat, light, and safety vest. Then you’ll board the cart deal that takes you into the mine. You straddle the seat like a motorcycle. Joey, our tour guide was fantastic. He was funny, knowledgeable, and made the tour fun and semi interactive, while making sure everyone felt safe. We had a smaller group so it was like a private tour. We went 1500 feet underground and learned the entire history of the mine. We even got to see the illusive light show (not typically offered). Awesome experience for all ages.
Emm B — Google review
Loved the tour and the gift shop! All staff that we encountered were friendly. The tour was so informative! The mine is in great shape. Will live to take others through in the future.
D F — Google review
We had an amazing time on the mine tour. Our tour guide was excellent—funny, friendly, and very knowledgeable. It’s an experience where you not only learn about the history of the mines but also feel truly connected to the past. We enjoyed every moment and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes so you can enjoy the tour even more. A wonderful experience!

The Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum is a must-visit attraction offering underground mine tours, history exhibits, and a crystal cave. Located in the former headquarters of the Copper Queen Consolidated Mining Company, this museum provides an interactive journey into the role of western copper mining towns in America's industrialization. Visitors can explore impressive minerals, artifacts, photographs, and tools from Bisbee's mining era.
Wonderful place. Don't miss it! Main floor has history of the town with great displays and info. Upstairs is all about the mining in town. Very interesting and you could get a sense of how life was for miners. This town was THE SPOT in the 1800s. One of the best museums I've been to!
Barbara H — Google review
This is such a fascinating place. If you are visiting Bisbee for the first time I highly recommend this museum. As I post this it's only $10 and well worth it. It's a Smithsonian affiliate if that tells you anything about how great it is. They have a room that is still original and a gift shop that is tax free!
Bee K — Google review
Excellent mining and history of Bisbee museum. If you are in town exploring, make sure to stop by and see the history of this place. Pretty crazy the amount of copper that came from their and how it formed the town of Bisbee. The exhibits are very nice and interesting. You can really get a feel of what it was back in the day, minus the hard work and suffering a lot of these early settlers of this area faced. There's even a whole section that I believe the smithsonian helped with (could be wrong) that includes a ton of different minerals / rocks from the area that are absolutely beautiful. Cool town, awesome museum!
Tre H — Google review
The Bisbee Queen Mine Tour was amazing. My partner and I visited during our weekend getaway trip. I'd never been in a mine before and it was something to experience. Parking wasn't difficult as they had their own lot. I would imagine during high visitor times you wouldn't be able to find a space.b Before we went into the doors, we saw many things to do outside and learned a lot of history about the mine. Entering the doors it's a museum and store to purchase items from. We did buy our tickets inside and was lucky enough they had a few seats left. We got hard hats and vests lights and boarded the mine train. It was an experience the entire family would enjoy. To see the entire experience visit my YouTube Channel called Eat and Travel with Toni.
Tonetta C — Google review
This place is amazing. Really well done and I especially like the minerals. The docents are super friendly and informative. We learned all about the mining heritage of Bisbee. They also have a wonderful gift shop.

The area offers opportunities for birdwatching, hiking, and wildlife observation along the picturesque San Pedro River. Visitors can explore the trails at their own pace or join guided river walks led by knowledgeable staff. With its lush riparian habitat contrasting the surrounding desert landscape, this conservation area provides a unique ecosystem for nature enthusiasts to discover.
This is an exceptionally beautiful place. There are many birds and there is a gift shop and there are picnic areas and historical sites really a wonderful place to go. But the best thing about / the San Pedro house / that is what we call it here in Cochise County the San Pedro house. The best thing is the hiking here is incredible. It is best to come here in the winter and the spring however I went for a hike in the summer here and if it's not too hot I can be very pleasant. Wonderful place to take photographs wonderful Natural riparian Area. This is a natural River and if you are from a different part of the country it is just a trickle of a stream. But here in Arizona we call this a river. Just a really beautiful place and it is kind of not like Arizona it looks like a little string back east or up North with cottonwood trees and lots of hiking trails just awesome

Good people doing great conservation land stewardship work. Highly professional dedicated staff doing the best they can with what they've got to work with, while protecting huge swaths of public land. Protecting public lands and it's abundant natural resources. Dispelling the myth that BLM stands for The Bureau of Logging and Mining.
MK — Google review
The reason I only gave it one star was because it was shut down due to the government shutdown. I thought other people should know not to even bother going by until the shutdowns over.
Kristofer K — Google review
Beautiful area, just a little more annual upkeep is required in carr canyon, ideally the picnic area. The potential for this place is huge. I dont know if the resources are lacking but if they got the canyon cleaned the potential of fires would go down substantially. In recent years they have been clearing large debris and graveling the road which is nice to see. Keep up the great work guys.

Ramsey Canyon Preserve, situated near Sierra Vista in Hereford, Arizona, is a haven for nature lovers seeking an extraordinary getaway. Encompassing almost 300 acres, this sanctuary is particularly beloved by bird enthusiasts and is renowned nationwide as a prime habitat for hummingbirds. The diverse array of wildlife thriving in this seemingly harsh environment captivates visitors from the moment they set foot on its trails.
Stunning preserve. Hike, canyons, wildlife, loops, benches - all well cared for by kind staff. Absolutely worth a stop!
Mary M — Google review
Stunning preserve! Birders paradise. Get here early to spot incredible birds and wildlife. Parking is also limited. The staff is very knowledgeable and will tell you the latest sightings and maybe where they were spotted. I recommend this for everyone who truly wants to enjoy and connect with nature. If you have someone with a disability or walking issues they can enjoy the area beyond the entrance or walk a little ways. Once inside the preserve there are benches surrounding hummingbird feeders and one can sit for hours! There is a good bit of shade and benches. I would consider allowing 90 minutes minimum for the lower loop. Closed Tuesdays.

The staff at the visitor center are friendly and very knowledgeable about the local ecosystem. A hidden gem in Arizona that’s absolutely worth visiting.

This was our first visit, and we will definitely be back! Absolutely beautiful, and the scent of pine everywhere was wonderful. We had several wildlife encounters (see photos). We made it to the first viewing area of the Overlook. We would have loved to make it all the way to the top, but I was feeling it. Lots of steps on a fairly steep trail, thankfully there's lots of shade on the way. Will have to get to the top another time, when I'm in better shape. There are lots of benches along the way, and the map the volunteers gave us was helpful in seeing how much further we had to go! The map details about the numbered stops were very informative. There is so much to see here! Bring lots of water and wear your sunscreen, even with the intermittent shade. We're considering the annual membership pass since we will certainly be back. Thanks to the volunteers for helpful tips before starting our hike. *We had a Coues deer calmly graze very close to us, then cross the trail right in front of us. Unfortunately I tried uploading an .mov clip of this, and also after converting to Mp4. No go.
Jennifer H — Google review
It really is a nice hike to the top! Worth the hike too. We had 5 kids with us, none of which are too outdoors oriented. They all did fine with some benches to rest as you go. Friendly staff, will be back!

E Allen St, located in downtown Tombstone, is a historic thoroughfare that offers an authentic Old West experience. This street is filled with old-timey landmarks and western-themed restaurants and hotels. Once a bustling hub for cowboys and miners, it's now a popular spot for tourists seeking to immerse themselves in the Wild West history. Visitors can witness reenactments of famous events like the gunfight at the O.K.
Was a really neat place to visit n experience. Lots of history to be learned here...

East Allen Street runs dead through the center of historic Tombstone Arizona. Walking down this street really feels like being transported to the old Wild West days of Wyatt Earp and his brothers. Many of the structures are original. What’s really great is that this is a living neighborhood preserved in time.

We visited here during the week so a lot of the shops were closed which was disappointing. But what was open was the okay corral and that was fantastic. We also did the horse and carriage ride which was relaxing, fun The driver was our tour guide and was very informative as we rode down some of the downtown streets.

It's a very fun place.

There's no parking on the street itself as its roped off. However, this street is one of the highlights in Historic Tombstone and it's where most of the hubbub and fun is. Each side of the street is jam-packed with stores, mini museums, and yummy restaurants, etc. There's a lot to see and walk through, and the sidewalk is accessible. For parking, you can park on the nearby streets, or park at the lot that a little ways behind the courthouse. Note though, it's very crowded here even on an early afternoon on the weekend. It's nice for people watching though and you can see some of the horse-drawn carriages here and some Western-dressed people.

The Bird Cage Theatre

Sights & Landmarks
The Bird Cage Theatre, a renowned landmark in Tombstone, is steeped in history and legend. Dating back to 1881, it was a bustling hub of activity, operating around the clock with various amenities such as a cantina, bar, theater, and massage parlor. Notorious for its association with gambling and brothels, the venue attracted both famous and infamous figures of the time.
A very unique museum with an easy self-guided tour experience. I'm glad this place is here and I'm happy that I went though it. Is it worth $16.50 per person? I'd give it a "soft yes." The museum's artifacts are not perfectly curated and it was a bit dusty, but it's a good place to spend 30 minutes while in Tombstone if you're interested in the history.
David M — Google review
This theatre offers a truly unique and thrilling ghost-hunting experience, and I absolutely loved it! The biggest highlight by far was the woman who led the tour she was incredible. Her energy, storytelling, and deep knowledge of the local history made the entire experience feel authentic and captivating. She brought just the right mix of spookiness, humor, and historical insight, keeping everyone engaged the whole time. The atmosphere of the theatre added to the eerie charm, and the ghost-hunting equipment made it feel interactive and fun. Even if you're a skeptic, it's easy to get caught up in the excitement. Overall, it was a memorable and entertaining night, and I’d highly recommend it especially thanks to the amazing guide who truly made the experience come alive.

The Birdcage Theatre – Tombstone, Arizona If Tombstone is the heart of the Wild West, then the Birdcage Theatre is its cathedral. Think of it as the Lambeau Field of football or the Carnegie Hall of music—the place where history, legend, and atmosphere all come together. Many museums claim “nothing has been touched” over the years, but few deliver. The Birdcage does—and in spades. Walking inside feels like stepping directly into the 1880s. Hundreds of authentic items remain in place from nearly 150 years ago. The rooms, the furniture, even the air carries the weight of the stories that shaped the American West. It’s not just a museum—it’s living history. On a personal note, I experienced something here I’ve never felt elsewhere. While exploring the basement on a daytime self-guided tour, I had a haunting encounter I can’t easily explain. I’m not someone who buys into things quickly, but this one gave me chills. If you’re interested in the paranormal, this place more than delivers. Overall, this is the experience of Tombstone. Worth every bit of the entrance fee, even in the 2020s. Take your time, let the history sink in, and if you only see one thing in Tombstone, make it the Birdcage. I’ll be returning—again and again.
Bryan R — Google review
My husband and I are avid travelers and obsessed with paranormal investigations. This did not disappoint! I know I sound crazy to some but for those that have experienced it themselves completely understand me- I walked to one side (away from the group) and immediately felt like a 50 lb weight was on my stomach. I walked towards my husband and told him what just happened, immediately took a picture of the area where I felt the unusual feeling. I captured a ghost on camera! I captured several orbs, one entire human figure and one mist over the Black Moriah. Well worth every penny and every minute spent- it was the highlight of my trip!
Katie S — Google review
This is the original building of The Bird Cage Theatre. It was built in 1881 and is now a museum, but retains a lot of the original theater details. We found the exhibits fascinating and really enjoyed the museum. There is also a nice gift shop loaded with Tombstone souvenirs.

Historic, Haunting, and Totally Worth the Visit. During our trip to Tombstone, we stopped by the Bird Cage Theatre—and it did not disappoint! Hearing the history of the building, seeing the original bar still marked with bullet holes, and viewing the old paintings and artifacts really brought the Wild West to life. The stories behind the place are fascinating, and it’s incredible how much has been preserved. If you’re in Tombstone, this is definitely a must-see spot for a deeper, more vivid look at its past.
Mint M — Google review
I spent a solid three hours here taking in every detail—and if they weren’t closing for the day, I would’ve stayed longer. If you’re in Tombstone and skip the Bird Cage Theatre, you’re missing out. Period. Ignore the cheapskates whining about the $18 admission—it’s worth every cent if you have even a remote appreciation for history. This place is a time capsule, and absolutely essential if you want to understand the real Tombstone.

Beautiful town with wonderful people. Full of history and unique shops. Also, who doesn't want to see an old West gunfight? I wish I had had more time to explore. I will definitely be back!

We had a really good time at the OK Corral. The gunfight reenactment was so much better than I had expected. The museum collection was impressive. I wish we had spent a little more time there. So much to see.

So much fun! The gun fight was Awesome. Perfect for a family day. There are three shows a day retelling the gun fight at O.K. Corral. There is also a mini museum of the history of Tombstone's hayday 😉
Jessica W — Google review
The show was worth the price of entry ($10 pp over 5). Very comical but the history lesson behind it was very interesting as well. My children 10, 8, & 5 all stayed entertained the whole 30 min. Gun shots are loud in the "arena"
John L — Google review
We had such a great time at the show. It was funny, the acting was amazing, and it kept us entertained from beginning to end. After the show we went on a tour and learned so much about the history of Tombstone. The guide made everything easy to understand and very interesting. It is a fun and educational experience for all ages. We truly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tombstone.

Very entertaining with comic relief. Guns shoot blanks and can be scary to small children (like 2 and under for sure). Lots of fun places before you enter for kids to climb and play. Lots of photo opportunities.

Boothill Graveyard, located in Tombstone, Arizona, is a must-visit attraction for those interested in the town's history. Situated on the outskirts of town and home to around 276 graves, it serves as the final resting place for individuals involved in shootouts, lynchings, and hangings. Notable figures such as Billy Clanton and the McLaurys from the infamous OK Corral fight are buried here.
Very cool to experience and history in person! This place offers a in-depth descriptions of the these people lived hundreds of years ago. Many of them tell of how they died. Most ended in tragedy with either being hung, shot, stabbed, and even poisoned! Take your time reading and learning of these individuals who made history. February 2025, $6 for adults. 12 and under free. Gift shop offers many unique items with fair prices. Staff were very friendly and helpful in answering any questions.

We found our visit to Boothill Graveyard to be very interesting. Fortunately the graves were covered with rocks to prevent animals from digging. This also made locating them easy. Many of the tombstones have been restored and a few have pretty humorous messages.

Boothill Graveyard – Tombstone, AZ Just outside of Tombstone, Boothill Graveyard brings you face-to-face with the real people who shaped the Wild West. Standing only feet from their resting places makes the history feel tangible, yet it’s less macabre than you might expect—especially if you’ve studied the history or enjoyed the classic Western films. I recommend saving this stop for the end of your Tombstone visit. It provides a sense of closure, showing not only how the legends lived but also how their stories ended. As a bonus, the grounds are dotted with beautiful examples of Sonoran Desert cacti, making it a rewarding visit for history lovers and plant enthusiasts alike.
Bryan R — Google review
This was my husband's and my favorite stop in Tombstone. We were greeted by a friendly man who was running the gift shop. He kindly showed us a map of the town and alerted us to areas not to be missed. The woman selling the tickets into the cemetary was very informative. She spoke animatedly about those who are laid to rest there. We enjoyed our walk through the graveyard. I was particularly moved by the Jewish memorial. This graveyard illuminates the lives of people who were brave or crazy enough to settle the west.

A Fascinating Step Back in Time We visited Tombstone and had such a great time learning about the history of the town. After hearing the stories and seeing the sights, we were inspired to visit the Boothill Graveyard to see where many of the town’s famous figures are buried. It really brings the Old West to life. It was a unique and memorable visit—definitely worth it if you’re into history or just want to experience something different and authentic. Tombstone has a charm all its own!
Mint M — Google review
$6 to enter and dogs are allowed. They give you a pamphlet to tour the graves that tells you what happened to most and there were so many violent deaths. Very peaceful resting place. There is a gift shop with clean restrooms.
Tony J — Google review
The cemetery itself is 100% a place to stop and see. The pamphlet with information on those laid to rest here is very interesting and really shows how brutal life in the 1880s could be. However before coming, probably call and check their hours are correct. We were all but locked into the graveyard at what we thought was an hour early of closing (it was 5pm). When we rushed back to the building upon realizing it the lady closing the store was a bit harsh. The store was shut down lights off doors locked. She said they were at their winter hours. Which were not posted anywhere, and no one said anything to us when we got our tickets to enter. The lady’s response was to “go online to wherever it’s wrong tell them” so I guess here I am posting to beware of hours and let you know they will lock you in. Posting a photo with the hours for today, still showing they are open til 6, they are not! Worth the stop but super bummed we didn’t get our souvenir as we collect one everywhere we go.
Zoe L — Google review
As a longtime fan of Western films and history, visiting Boothill Graveyard was such a unique and interesting experience. Walking among the old tombstones, reading the epitaphs, and soaking in the rich history of Tombstone felt like stepping back in time. It’s a must-visit for anyone who loves the Old West and wants to see a piece of real frontier history!

Paton Center for Hummingbirds

Nature & Wildlife Areas
The Paton Center for Hummingbirds is a hidden gem in Patagonia, offering a peaceful and relaxing experience for bird enthusiasts. Visitors are treated to an abundance of hummingbird species and other birds, surpassing expectations. The knowledgeable staff and fellow birdwatchers create a welcoming atmosphere, eager to share their sightings and experiences. The center provides easy parking and ample seating to observe the diverse array of birds flying around the feeders and natural surroundings.
Neat birdwatching place in the middle of nowhere (ha!) started by some locals residents decades ago, and maintained as a free (please donate if you can ) entry experience for all who want to learn about and watch the many beautiful birds of the Arizona southern scrub forest. There’s a shade ramada with benches and chairs near the many hummingbird feeders where folks can sit and enjoy the many avian visitors. I was delighted 👆🏻💫 by near constant sights of different hummingbirds. Bonus: there was a bird expert there helpfully pointing out the different birds for us! And if you’ve worked up an appetite with your birding activities, there’s a BBQ cart across the street. The town of Patagonia looked cute and somewhat quaint and quirky but this writer didn’t have enough time to explore. I came for the hummingbirds!
Surrealmeech — Google review
It was such a wonderful place, and I was able to see 2 species of hummingbirds I've never seen before. Lots of people that are birders visited to. It was nice talking to the other visitors. Would suggest maybe an online store or something where local artists can sell bird and nature items to help raise money to keep improving the location. Also, a brochure with the birds you can see there would have been awesome. I did like the magazines!

Had a great time on a short visit. Was there in the heat of the summer. Loved the gardens, saw a lot of hummingbirds, and several others of the local birds. Loved the signage of the history and on the birds you may see. Did a short hike beyond the gardens, went for a short bit and came back. Saw a deer running off in the woods. Would love to come back in cooler weather.

Great place for a perfectly getaway! I'm not necessarily a birder and I don't fish, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy my stay here. It is definitely geared more for those hobbies. I was in the area to do some cycling out of Patagonia and this was a great base camp. I definitely recommend the East side for a quieter setting. Spots are nice and spread out with electric and water hookups. Showers were clean with hot water.

Our first time. It was awesome. We had the place to ourselves. Showers were out of order. Clean restrooms. Port a potty’s available. We found a plug to get some power. Multiple grills and picnic benches available. We swam around and also brought an inflatable boat with oats. There were lid jackets available for use there for free, they were hanging on a rack.
Kimiko W — Google review
This is a great park, lots of trees, large Rv spots, lots of privacy. Water is great, they have a sandy beach. Lots to view, even saw a naked person roaming their Rv, just cause the windows are tinted doesn’t mean you can’t see through them, especially when your lights are on, I’ve enclosed pictures, blurred of course. Cool bridge to walk over at night as well. Price has gone up way too much for what you get here and nothing else near by. 50 a night is a bit pricey.
Michelle — Google review
For the money spent on camping the camp grounds should be level and weed free. The picnic area lake view is non existent do to overgrown bushes tree's and weeds other than that it's a nice place to hang out with friends.
Michael S — Google review
We camped at Patagonia for a week. There’s 2 different sides to the campground. Each has its advantages. Most spots on the side we stayed on had a water access trail. There were lots of bare trees around. The power to the campground went out 2 days in a row. A note notifying us in advance would have been nice. But that was not the case. The state park is pretty far from any stores so bring everything you may need. There’s a Walmart 17 miles away in Nogales
Nelida S — Google review
Looks great, like a well worth destination for some downtime. We'll be back!
Carmen K — Google review
Great park, spaces are large, lake is nice, close to Nogales , and Sonoita . Lots of shade trees. They now have floating toilets around the lake. There is also a cool bridge that crosses over the marina area which is lit up at night. Boats and floaty toys welcome, water is usually perfect for swimming. Sites are big and have plenty of privacy if you want to cut loose a little, plenty of trail and bird watching. There is a small store that has just about everything you might have forgotten. Fun place no judgement, let loose and have fun. Sad they had to raise the price to 50 it was a good deal at 35, not so much at 50.

What a nice place to relax and enjoy wine and music. My wife and I have been to several of the wineries in Sonoita and this might have been the most relaxing. We enjoyed a few glasses of wine and the cheese board. The ladies and the counter were extremely friendly and took their time with you, to ensure we got what we wanted. I'd recommend this winery to anyone.

Very ample seating in door or outdoors. Love the way they have the outdoors set up. You can be social or find privacy at this spot. The decor is lovely and staff very lively and friendly. Nice variety on the charcuterie board. Wines were lil on the sweet side for me but that is what tasting is for. Loved the locks idea. The restroom decor LOVED IT...

Adorable, eclectic, welcoming and great wine! Live music while we were there, the cutest swans roaming around, pigs and goats to check out too! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They had adult "juice pouches" that looked wonderful but we stuck with wine. Had an yummy cheese board that was above average compared to some of the boards we have had at other smile wineries.

Such a cozy place to have a wine tasting. My second trip was there on Mother's Day with my wife. They had a live band at that time. Fairly crowded with people relaxing and enjoying the music and scenery. The wine selection was good. I really enjoyed the port, with some other well blended reds. We had stopped at a few wineries that day, but this one was our favorite stop. We'll be sure to be back again, or my wife won't stop whining for more wine.

Kartchner Caverns State Park is a remarkable limestone cave system that offers guided tours to explore its living rock formations. Discovered in 1974, it remained a secret for 25 years before opening to the public. The caverns feature spires, shields, columns, and other unique formations that have been developing for over five million years. It's home to the world's longest stalactite formation and the tallest natural column in Arizona.
Majestic & otherworldly! We were extra fortunate to get spots on the monthly photography tour. Even the visitors center is beautifully designed, starting with the fascinating discovery and development story in a lovely amphitheater. Each staff member was genuinely proud of their part in the visitor experience - warm, friendly and knowledgeable. Can’t wait to return and share this special place with our visiting family and friends!

Site 44 (ours) was very unlevel/ 6” leveling ramps still was not enough! Website should apply this info on each space; take the time to do so! We left early because of this and no refunds! Website gives no idea if level or need super high lifters; awful! I have vertigo so it was not fun. Unless you personally go to rv park and chk each one, you may get one like ours that is more than 6” off! Be prepared. Campsite is clean, shower water is hot but hubby says in mens bathroom toilet paper rolls are in a “ weird place so legs are catiwompass while sitting”…. Odd they would do that. $50 a night tho makes it hard to wanna go back. Nice views of mountains and they have a loop for hiking so that is nice. The unleveled lots make this hard to come back to not knowing if you choose online a decent spot… in pics they all look level. Beware! No one expects more than 6 inches!!!!! Also do not drink the water or use for cooking. Had brown , gray water with sediment come out. Use bottled water for cooking or drinking or coffee!

One of, if not the best State Park in the system. The cave tours are excellent. The campground is top notch with well spaced sights. The surrounding area is rich in historical sites, and the Sonoita opportunities for food (The Copper Brothelbrew pub), wine, and distilleries is a great adult day trip. And, the incredible Empire Ranch is also near Sonoita. Wildlife opportunities are abundant both summer and winter. We really enjoy White Water Draw in the winter to see 10's of thousands of Sandhill Cranes. So, its just not the cave and campgrounds - there is a vast area to explore.
Mark L — Google review
The cave tour was so amazing. It’s important to remember to see this cave you have to follow strict instructions to protect the cavern that is possibly the most beautiful and amazing thing on this planet. The story of how it became is very interesting. Take the tour you will love it as long as you appreciate nature. There is a small botanical garden in front of the center. There is a gift shop and small cafe that serves sandwiches. There is campground there that is quite nice. It’s kept up quite nicely. They have water and electric for your camper, a dump station and bathrooms equipped for handicapped. The bathrooms are kept up but needs updating. The only con I can come up with is that the bathrooms are so very cold I don’t see how anyone could possibly take a shower in such a cold room and the bed thing in the shower is so far away from the shower head that I don’t think it’s usable. Hiking the trails around the cavern was nice. I definitely recommend trip to the Kartchner Caverns.
Shari B — Google review
Great experience on our cave tour today! Our guide Rich was knowledgeable and funny! It was great to learn about the history and geology of the cave system. We’re planning a trip back when we can visit the Great Room (closed this time of year for the bats). Also enjoyed a short walk on one of the trails. Beautiful area!

This is a nice park, plenty of hiking trails, not far from tombstone and Sierra vista. Cave is cool but not much else to do except hang out . Spots are big and lots of privacy so you can let it all hang out if you like, after dark gets interesting careful where you look you might get an eye full, just because Rv windows are tinted real dark doesn’t mean you can’t see through them at night especially if your inside lights are on. So bring your cards or Yahtzee or board games. Leave your inhibitions at home. No judgement here.
Rick — Google review
No photos allowed inside, but that honestly made it even better. Kartchner Caverns is unlike anything I’ve ever seen — a state-of-the-art facility protecting one of the most beautiful natural spaces I’ve ever stepped into. Being inside the Earth like that… it’s humbling and breathtaking all at once. Must see!

Amerind Museum & Texas Canyon Nature Preserve

Museum
Nature preserve
Specialty Museums
Beautiful location, excellent collection of artifacts with just enough explanation to enrich appreciation of how native peoples lived close to the land and made art for thousands of years in harmony with earth energies. Have visited twice in 3 years and enjoyed seeing different exhibits each time. Added bonus is the art gallery that showcases the works of contemporary native artists. Bring a picnic lunch and soak in this peaceful location amidst the picturesque boulders of Texas Canyon shaded by native trees. A jewel on the busy I-10 corridor that should not be missed.

What a very beautiful landscape! We didn't get a chance to check out the museum or art gallery as we came in a little late in the day. But the short hike we did do was very beautiful! Lots of trails here to explore! This is a privately owned location so access to the trails costs about $12 per person. It is well worth it as they keep the trails up very nicely! Access to the museum and art gallery is an additional cost. Children 10 and under are free. Staff was very pleasant. We will definitely be exploring this area again in the near future! Bikes are not allowed on the trails. We did bring my 3-year-old 's balance bike and carried it 90% of the way. We didn't realize bikes weren't allowed until we got back to the car and seen the sign. That is literally right in front of the trail. 😂

Cool place, lots of artists work, artifacts and pottery. Plenty of parking not far off the highway, Rv parking. Trails and picnic areas. Cool old cemetery. 10 bucks a person for seniors.

Nice little museum, and art gallery, beautiful country side. Plenty of parking. Cool old cemetery on the property. Right off the highway, easy on and off. Rv parking as well.

This was a great experience, and hiking the outdoor trails through parts of Texas Canyon was great time. The outdoor scenery was fantastic, as well as the exhibits inside the museum. Although no phots allowed inside, be sure and take lots of pics on the trails.

Went out with a friend on Friday, a first visit for both of us. It was an amazing experience. The museum and gallery are extremely well maintained and educational. The amount of artifacts on display is large, especially the jewelry, with information on each piece. A lot of history here, but no photos allowed. There is also a nice gift shop by the entrance. We brought our lunch and drove around back to the picnic area where there were tables under the mesquite trees and a restroom. We saw several gila woodpeckers and a vermillion flycatcher. We stopped at the cemetery on our way out. The trails were closed due to fire hazard, but we plan to come back when they are open, possibly after the monsoons.

2nd visit, the historical and contemporary exhibits are interesting. I was glad to see the museum adding a lift. The adjacent Art Gallery boasts works of known and new artists, displaying various techniques and mediums.

This was truly one of the most spectacular museums I’ve ever seen. No photos inside the museum was tough but I get it. Not only the museum, but that landscape surrounding is breathtaking. Make sure to go to the picnic area and take the serenity. This is a stop along the journey that I’ll never forget.

Tumacacori National Historical Park

Historical place
Sights & Landmarks
Park comprising ruins of 3 Spanish mission communities, including a restored church, plus a museum.
Such a beautiful building to explore and very informative information inside the visitor center. The garden was also very beautiful. Yummy tortilla sample and a great time had by all. Highly recommend stopping by if in the area. Also fun to visit while reading Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather.

A Beautiful tranquil place. Went to the firefly event. The Ramadas were made of mesquite, the roofs were Ocotillo canes. We hiked in the dark to the river to see them. The rangers educated us, provided literature, a model they made of a firefly that lit up, and red flashlights. Great place for birding.

A lovely piece of preserved history that is maintained and protected by our National Park Service. The NPS staff are deeply knowledgeable and eager to share their knowledge with visitors especially on a quiet Monday in the off-season. We spent an enjoyable couple hours exploring the grounds and learning about the Spanish Mission system's impact on the region and the continuing influence that history has had all the way to the current day.

This was suck a fun afternoon visit. To walk around so much history that's still standing! Amazing.

Arizona’s missions tell the story of Spanish exploration and colonization of indigenous people. Jesuit missionary Father Francisco Kino visited this site along the Santa Cruz River in 1691. We revisited this National Historic Park today after four years of our last visit. Such a well maintained and staffed facility. Don’t miss out of the courtyard featuring a fountain and plants and birds indigenous to Arizona. A must see if in the area

This was an amazing location with great history. I love when I see historical locations that were saved and well taken care of!!! 🥰🎉🥳 We have to protect as much of this world as we can and all the history around it.. we can't let them continue to overbuild and tear down this beautiful world.

Loved everything moment. Park and walk in to pay and pick up the walking guidebook at the visitor center. $10 or use the National Park Pass. The garden is by the washrooms. The architecture is well designed to frame the Mission as you turn the corner and look out. Great bilingual history placards with illustrations. It's a short walk. On a hot day, protection is necessary. Today was cool and sunny. The Spanish influence is beautiful in construction. The church walls are slowly devolving safely and feel authentic and raw. Evidence of how structures break down over time. The building by the cemetery has no roof, and access is via the paved path, so go around. The walking trail to the real orchard with fruit trees representative of what was cultivated then had some budding pomegranates. The ground was wet from last nights rain. The nature trails to the river (teeny stream) are shaded by over arching desert trees and quiet. Most of the areas linking the main communal areas are paved. The trails are not. There is a small gift shop and the volunteers are friendly. Monday morning is a good time to visit. The museum is informative and well put together with high quality artifacts.

We watched a 17-minute video before walking around the grounds. Interesting history. We skipped the guided tour because it was 45-60 minutes and we didn't have enough time. We walked down to the creek, which was pretty and serene. Got in free with a senior national parks pass.

Tubac Presidio State Historic Park

State park
Nature & Parks
History museum
Park commemorating Spanish colonial America with a museum, excavated presidio & 1885 schoolhouse.
I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The museum was very impressive; a large collection of a variety of artifacts that are very neatly displayed with clear descriptions and identifications. A more pleasant experience than some much larger museums we’ve visited. There are several areas with displays that encourage visitors to touch objects, a nice touch. In the meeting building we could touch the carriage and feel the tension in the suspension, first time we’ve seen that be allowed! The paintings in the meeting building were beautiful. Would love to have purchased the $15 book contains shots of the paintings, but they were sold out. The Rojas house was fascinating. Allowed us to get a real feel for life in the 50s-60s. We were disappointed that the excavation area was closed. The $7/person fee was worth it, a good contribution for a museum that doesn’t receive money from the state. We bought a book in the gift shop, an easy way to further contribute. The volunteers obviously care a great deal about the Presidio and are proud to share it with the public. I highly recommend a visit. Bring your glasses as there are lots of fascinating facts to read and maps to peruse. The chalkboard lists in the schoolhouse were a fascinating glimpse into a different era; they provided some chuckles too!

My most recent experience was actually for a Fourth of July celebration they were having so it was quite separate from the museum, though that was open. The Presidio and Rotary put on a special event from 10-12 and I must say, they knocked it out of the park! There were games for the kids, music, food, treats, donkeys to pet, a fly over, and the fire department turned the hose on the kids (in a good way!). It was very entertaining and a perfect way to celebrate the birth of our nation. The museum, grounds, gallery and one room school house, which I've visited a couple times before and plan to go back again, are rich in information and history. It's a gem for kids and adults alike.

Friendly staff, beautiful grounds. The museum contained more information and exhibits than I anticipated. If you love history this is not to be missed.
Kathryn B — Google review
A nice quiet walk. The presidio was moved to Tucson so it's the footprint and artifacts in museums, the Otero House and a school room. $7 entrance fee. Bathroom is right side of Otero House. Chalk boards in school room make me glad I'm not a teacher or student in those times. Likely the same will be said 100 years from today. Gift shop. Easy parking, not very busu.

Charron Vineyards

Winery
Food & Drink
Charron Vineyards offers a wide selection of delectable wines in a warm and inviting setting, complemented by friendly and welcoming staff. The location exudes a rural charm, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of the countryside while indulging in moments of pure bliss through their sips. One standout experience is their Halloween-themed wine and candy pairing, which brilliantly combines uniqueness with success. Wine enthusiasts can enjoy tastings and even bring home several bottles for further enjoyment.
TL;DR: Amazing. Beautiful. We felt welcome and appreciated. Wine was delicious. My brother had a tiny wedding here yesterday and it was perfection. The views were lovely, the seating was shaded and comfy, the staff and owners were so charming and accommodating, and the wine was delicious (I had the Chardonnay). Everything went so smoothly and the owners even went out of their way to find a solution when an important wedding element was accidentally left at home. I’m so grateful to Charron Vineyards for making the day perfect. Also, the formerly-feral-but-now-incredibly-sweet cat Ballerina deserves a mention for generally being lovely and making everyone laugh during photos. ♥️ Definitely give them a visit.

This isn't the fanciest of wineries, but it's cute. There is a beautiful view from a beautiful patio over looking the desert and vineyards. There are plenty of shady spots to sit outside should the sun be a little too warm. The prices are phenomenal and the service was great. I'd recommend going here first on your way to Sonoita.

Charron vineyards is a hidden gem! It’s only 40 minutes from central Tucson. They have beautiful mountain views and the tastings are only $11 if you bring your own wine glass. We stayed for the entire afternoon. We also received excellent service from Michelle!

Vineyards near Tucson??? It's the desert!?!?!?! Really? Oh yes! Visited here with my wife and it was wonderful! What a nice little vineyard and the wines are terrific! What a pleasant surprise! The staff there is awesome too! BTW, if you are heading out there, follow the Google Maps directions for the turn as the signage will have you going down the wrong road. The staff there said they had already called AZ DOT to move the sign but they have not yet. Anyways, well worth the drive from Tucson and the tasting fee! You even get to keep the glass! BTW, try the wine slushie... oh so good on a hot day.

My son and daughter-in-law had their wedding at Charron Vineyards and it was so lovely. The venue was charming, the staff was amazing, Sarah was so sweet and friendly, Michelle and Morgan were just lovely, and even Ballerina, the cat was a sweetie! The scenery made a gorgeous backdrop for the photos and for the experience. We could not have had a nicer location for our event! Definitely try the Peach Bellini slushy!
Ruth P — Google review
Large variety of delicious wines in an inviting and cozy location with down home/friendly staff…makes you feel away from it all as you take in the rural beauty and sip yourself into blissful moments. I loved the Halloween themed wine & candy pairing - such a unique idea and yet it worked so well! We thoroughly enjoyed our wine tasting and even took several bottles home with us! The blueberry pomegranate slushie was extremely tasty and refreshing in the very warm afternoon! Only negative is that the gravel/dirt road you have to traverse from the main paved road to get there is quite rough and tumble in a few spots and overall could use some work to make it more manageable…we have back issues and it was quite an irritant.
Molly S — Google review
The wines we tasted at Charron were rough, and the tasting room is small and dingy. The only service person around on a winter afternoon was a person with no wine knowledge who had only been there a very short time. The drive leading up to the place was deeply rutted. If you like easy-drinking wine blends with cute names, and a nice place to enjoy the desert mountain views, you will enjoy Charron.

This is quite the hidden gem in Vail. So relaxing. It has the feel of a family owned small business and is in a secluded area (you have to drive on a dirt road to get here) that’s peaceful and quiet. Some of the best customer service/staff I’ve encountered, especially in the Tucson/Vail area. Trust me, this place is worth the time/drive and effort to visit. They have little snacks but don’t expect to eat a meal here and be full afterwards. Charron is all about the wine tasting experience and it accomplishes that quite successfully. See added pictures for an idea of the beautiful view (it looks better when there’s a lot of green, healthy vines, keep in mind). Issac, Susan, and Kat are exceptionally kind and great at what they do.

Military Museums
Nestled just south of Tucson in Sahuarita, the Titan Missile Museum stands as a remarkable testament to Cold War history. This unique site is the last remaining missile silo of its kind, offering visitors an immersive experience into a pivotal era. Guests can embark on guided tours that take them underground to explore the Titan II Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Site 571-7, where they can witness firsthand what life was like during those tense years.
Amazing! Went here on a Thursday in December 2024. Wow, just wow! Felt like a combo of Minuteman Missle NHS, Star Trek First Contact, and X-Files. Great tour. Great insight from the tour guide. Limitless access to pretty much everything in the complex. And the cherry on top was touring outside above ground. I would have paid triple and still thought it was a great value. Super easy to get to with plenty of parking, gift shop, and restrooms. You will not regret your visit.

Very cool place to visit! At the Titan Missile Museum you go underground into a real Cold War missile silo and see the massive missile up close. The scale of everything is incredible and really makes you feel the history. The guides are excellent — they explain everything in a very interesting and easy-to-follow way. Definitely worth it if you’re in Tucson!

This place is awesome!!!! My son and I really liked it and we BOTH want to recommend it. The tour was very informational and going down into the complex was very cool. The price was very reasonable, able to take pictures (obviously) and if you go......when asked for volunteers in the control room, do it.

This museum is absolutely worth a visit! Our guide, Steve, brought the experience to life with a great mix of humor and deep knowledge. After the tour, I even had the chance to connect my ham radio to the original 80-foot-tall, 60-year-old Collins Discage antenna — and made contacts all the way to Hawaii and my uncle in Tennessee. A truly unforgettable experience!

I attended the guided tour, I recommend the tour over topside viewing. It’s a fun adventure into the military tech of the 1960s. Just thinking about being stationed here waiting for a fight that never happened in a secret location had me imagining the lives of these young men. What an interesting time the Cold War was. Having grownup in the 80/ and 90s we had more of a sense of purpose in those days. Great tour and guides.

Cholla Bay Area

Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Cholla Bay Area is a serene and calm destination, perfect for a peaceful getaway. The beach, although not suitable for swimming due to the abundance of stones, adds a unique charm to the place. Additionally, it is worth noting that most of the beach in this area is privately owned. Nonetheless, Cholla Bay offers a beautiful landscape and tranquility that makes it an ideal spot to spend a delightful day.
La cholla was an amazing little Mèxican town. It has ocean views, you can barbecue drink, and swim. It is not too far from El malecon and Playa bonita, yet it is a quiet place. I recommend it 100%. It was a holiday weekend in the States, but it was not too busy at La Cholla.
