My husband and I had a fantastic time wine tasting with Daniel. He made the experience well worth the drive from San Jose Del Cabo. The vineyard is beautiful and all the rescue animals are adorable. The tasting was paired with homemade cheese, bread, olives, and sun dried tomatoes. Overall it was a great experience- we will definitely be back!

lovely authentic wine tasting sat-sun 12-5. ask about all their homemade meats, art, wine, and tinctures. authentic souvenirs. leave the keychains behind. wine tasting is very reasonably priced and you get to taste a bunch of homemade treats. make sure to ask about their cute donkeys, sheep, chickens, etc. fun for romance or families or whatever. nice people

My husband and I were looking for an overnight stay in the mountains and found Rancho La Venta. We called 30 minutes ahead and was invited to stay in one of the 3 little casitas they have on the 350 acre property. We spoke with the owners and they gave us a tour of their lovely facilities and grounds. The room we stayed in was simple, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed hiking on several trails leading to the vineyard, arroyo, pool area and an overlook with beautiful views of the back country. We had full and private access to the sauna and pool as no-one else was there. A delicious jevos rancheros breakfast was included and made with fresh eggs from the farm. We had an amazing stay and highly recommend.

Rancho La Venta is a Gem in the middle of the East Cape of the Baja Peninsula. Bob, Stephanie, Liz, and Co are so accommodating. We had a group of 7 for a ladies day out and Rancho La Venta did not disappoint. After a tour of the vineyards and the historic adobes, we were treated to 5 different Ranch Wines ranging from whites to Reds to Ports as well as house made bread, local cheeses, and apps. Everything was authentic and delicious. We will be back as a reservation to get the lamb and pork prosciutto or to have a spit roast. 10/10 recommend not only for the experience, views, conversations, and wine, but also for the coolest ( temperature and view-wise) pool in the Baja. Thank you Rancho La Venta!

Def worth to stop here if you’re around La Paz! We had an amazing afternoon at Bobs ranch. You start with a little tour around the winery and after hat a tasting. The wines are great, and his cheeses are super tasty. If you can stay here for the night would absolutely recommend it!

I’m not even sure where to begin, except like others, we’ve driven by the closed gate and signs for decades. And a couple of weeks ago I was looking for a close (to La Ventana) cool locale to take my wife for Valentine’s Day, Rancho La Venta popped up on Google maps, so I dropped onto their website and booked a couple of nights stay (not fully knowing it’s “off the grid”). We rented the main casita that has a full bathroom and fireplace (there are two other casitas that are more rooms with just outside the door bathrooms). Features: -Bob, Liz and Daniel were splendid hosts! -The 350 acre grounds and terrain are spectacular. -The sauna and pool are dreamy and set on an amazing rock formation with a spectacular view. -The hiking trail system is quickly remote with a variety of geographies and a spectacular palapa view point. -The food is fresh, super well prepared and delicious. -They sell what they make…Liz is an artist, Bob makes wine and they make chutney and sell herbs they provide it all in the original and renovated homestead building as a gift shop. Bob & Liz really make the experience special. They offered us a private Valentine dinner overlooking the rock formations and western sunset view just beside the pool/sauna area (see pictures). I could go on and on and on. Rather, just go stay there and enjoy all the treats Rancho La Venta has to offer.
Greg G — Google review
Amazing place in the middle of the wilds, La Venta is a great place to visit, Liz, Robert, Daniel and his wife, are superb hosts! Very friendly and caring for their guests, the place is really big, I stayed there only for one day, yet my family and I had the opportunity to hike, taste some delicious wine (mango rose and cabernet Fran), Liz's food is great!! The included breakfast is really tasty, the pool area and is really calm and cool for the intense heat, they also have a sauna that helps a lot to relax. Beware as you're not likely to have cell service nor internet over there. The rooms are great, very clean and cozy, the water pressure is great!

Rancho Laventa is a Wonderful Experience!! We've seen their sign for years on the highway between San Antonio & San Bartollo and finally pulled in! Why did we wait so long! It's so charming and Stefani & Daniele were Amazing hosts! Please stop by to take a tour of their vineyard , grounds and taste their wonderful wines and shop their homemade products including "Delicious" lamb prosciutto! You won't believe it!! They have beautiful overnight accomodations too for a Romantic Adventure in lush & quiet surroundings ❤ it's also a Self-sustaining rach and off-grid! Big Thanks fir a Wonderful Experience!

El Triunfo Piano Museum

Museum
Specialty Museums
This museum has pianos and other instruments from the heyday of El Triunfo, what a gem to have them preserved. No bells and whistles and the modest entrance donation is commensurate.
Ruth T — Google review
I actually drove out to this town specifically to check out this museum as I usually love tiny specialized museums like this. However. In reality, it is about two dozen ramshackle, pianos and organs most appear to be 1960s through 80s in a dark and moldy building. I found nothing of interest, and was really sad about it.
Anna V — Google review
It is very small but to see the old pianos and other musical instruments was quite beautiful. There is also a cowboy museum within walking distance which is also very interesting!!
Debbie L — Google review
If you're into history or music, you've got to stop here. This is a small museum with mainly pianos, some as old as 1850. All were donated by different families. There are a few old photographs of some of the original owners of the pianos. There is a concert room where guest pianists come to perform, but that was prepandemic. They ask for a $1 donation. Which is nothing. On a beautiful historic street.
Ruth R — Google review
This small place, (Ruta de Plato Museum) is great for learning more about the history of the BCS region and the mining industry. Start with a short video and progress through two rooms with lots of artifacts, photos and stories.

If you're looking to learn or improve you kiteboarding, look no further than Elevation! The instructors are truly exceptional. Their professionalism, patience, and encouraging attitude made our first experience unforgettable. They broke down the skills perfectly and created a supportive environment. We felt safe and confident throughout the entire lesson… and had so much fun. Highly recommend!
Erika M — Google review
I have taken two days of Kite foiling and I'm starting the girls camp today. I learned so much in two days and I can't wait to see what the camp teaches me. They have many instructors and all of them are approachable and knowledgeable. Even outside of lessons they're available to chat with and fun to watch on the water. Their spot in Baja California Sur is incredibly safe and the community is friendly. Many people have been coming here for years but there's also newbies like me and the atmosphere lends itself well to all levels. I definitely recommend checking them out regardless of your level!
Sari C — Google review
Elevation is amazing. I know this for I first went to them two years ago when I needed to figure out how to kiteboard. Everything about this operation is professional but also extremely community/family oriented. The lessons were perfectly planned and they had me on my own after five sessions. I have now returned to learn how to wing foil. They got me confident and proficient in a similar fashion to my kiteboarding experience. What I love about this operation the most is the people. The staff is super engaging and genuinely want people to succeed. They help out everyone - not just their clients. This starts with the owners and the culture that they have created for their staff seems to never change. What a great school and what a great community building operation.

Elevation Kiteboarding is a family of wind-sport professionals who are deeply passionate and personally invested in helping you reach, and surpass your watersports goals. Their patience, professionalism, and state-of-the-art equipment create a great foundation for you to progress safely and efficiently. There’s truly no better team that I know who can welcome you into this amazing community better than Elevation Kiteboarding. I look forward to seeing you out on the water! — Paul Porter

I was so fortunate to take jet ski assisted kiteboarding lessons with Elevation Kiteboarding. It was so comforting and reassuring for me that my instructor was on the water in close proximity and could assist when I needed it! Robbie and Peter both were instructors of mine and brought a level of calm that in turn enabled me to put my worry to the side and really enjoy the process of learning a challenging new sport. I am now an independent kiteboarder, but continue to go back to Elevation to learn new skills, ie. jumping. I am hoping to visit La Ventana this winter to learn how to wing with Elevation. If you’re interested in learning how to kite, foil or wing - I highly recommend Elevation Kiteboarding, the school is well run, has excellent instructors and uses safe, high quality equipment.
Jennifer N — Google review
Amazing experience at this kite school! I got to rent top-of-the-line wingfoil and kite gear and took a few lessons to improve my freestyle. Peter is an awesome instructor, super skilled and encouraging, and Luce runs everything like a pro. Such a great vibe here, everyone’s friendly and passionate. Highly recommended, no matter your level!
Josephine M — Google review
Such a great experience with Elevation Kiteboarding! It was my first time kite boarding so was a bit nervous but my instructor and everyone who works here was so encouraging. Highly recommend them to everyone! Definitely rebooking classes in the future.
Jen M — Google review
I absolutely love this Kite and wing school. The entire staff is amazing…seem less instruction from my first call to scheduling a jet ski assisted kite lesson to meeting Big Pete and Robbie. If you’re in southern Baja and you want to learn to kite or wing I STRONGLY suggest this business . 5 stars is not enough !!!!

Our boys (ages 15 and 13) had an awesome experience with Evolution - we only had one day in La Ventana but both boys were able to get up on the boards and wing downwind for an hour after a one-hour lesson on the beach. The instructors were fantastic and we would definitely recommend winging especially for people that are hoping to get out on the water on day one. A super fun time!
Jocelyn L — Google review
We had an amazing week of kiteboarding lessons with Evolution! We noticed a big difference going with IKO certified instructors compared to the last time we were in La Ventana. By the end of the week we were up and riding and even completed a downwinder!
Hillary P — Google review
The team at Evolution was great! Jason was a pleasure to work through logistics with and we found Louis and Rodrigo to be very competent and professional instructors! Not to mention the good company. Very easy to arrange and very flexible.
Cali B — Google review
A great place to kitesurf from. The beach layout was perfect to watch the action whilst relaxing on a hammock or at the bar. Jayeson was really easy to work with and fast to respond when coordinating times/options and Rodrigo was a first-class instructor. He was able to articulate and demonstrate the skills clearly, and clearly was passionate to ensure I got the most from my time there. Will be coming here again next time I’m in town!
Andy B — Google review
If you want to excel in Kiteboarding while having a great time doing it, Evolution Kiteboarding is the place to go in La Ventana. Jayeson and Reuben are awesome guys and very experienced instructors. They have a lot of patience for new kiters like I was, and will waste no time getting you on the water. On day two of my lessons I was up on a board, and by day three we did a 4 mile group down-winder. Nothing but good vibes!!
Gavin U — Google review
Evolution is the ultimate destination for learning or perfecting wing or kite skills! The instructors are true experts, tailoring classes to your personality and level! As a beginner with a fear of deep water, Jayeson and Rodrigo were incredibly patient, creating a non-judgmental and safe environment for me to have fun with wing foiling🙏The exceptional vibes, amazing instructors, and quality materials make it worth every penny. Going to Evolution every morning contributed to an amazing trip in La Ventana. Highly recommended! a BIG thank you to the team 🤍
Mog — Google review
We had the best time learning to kiteboard with Evolution! Niko had a quiet confidence that made me feel safe in the water especially around other kites and was an effective and lighthearted instructor, making learning the sport fun. We can’t wait to go back!
Elizabeth S — Google review
Really solid kiteboarding school! Jayeson is very communicative for scheduling and very genuine about what is/isn’t necessary. Example - another kite school tried to sell us jet-ski assist classes when a jet ski might not have been needed, but Jayeson was flexible and allowed us to decide as we went along each day. Our instructors (Spencer and Rodrigo) are both very experienced on the water and have a ton of knowledge. The assisted down-winder ride, during which you do a long down-wind ride with the instructor nearby, was an absolute blast.

It is a great place for many types of fishing. Huge variety of  sea life! Sweet sunrises and sunsets. The true ethnic Mexican style of the entire resort. Casitas/cabanas are all customized  with every detail being craftsman made. And yes, their cooking was great. Management personnel was helpful and friendly. Highly recommend.
Iuliia — Google review
We spent 2 weeks at Palapas Ventana and loved every part of it. The casitas are very comfortable, with a large terrace to dry all our sport gear. The beds are nice and hard, not too hard; the cleaning staff comes in daily and is so nice. Food is amazing, can't say enough about the food. Great presentation and taste. The area is quiet, and has a great coffee shop down the street. Parking is available right next to the casita. Tim and his staff are very knowledgeable, and can help you with any inquiries. We did a Cerralvo boat tour, whale watching and snorkeling; also highly recommended. For kite/wing sports, the beach is very nice but has some reefs when you walk in; we always took our car to a different spot anyway to try them all, but could come back to the Palapas Ventana beach from a downwind, being mindful of the reef.
Gaelle E — Google review
My first time here! I came with my boyfriend for the spear fishing blue water World Cup tournament! Beautiful location, this is such a unique special spot for all things ocean related! The first day when my boyfriend went to the tournament I stayed behind and one of the staff came to my door to let me know a group is going out snorkeling and scuba diving and if I wanted to join! So I rawdogged it and went and had the best time! I swam over a school of manta rays and got to go snorkeling and saw all kinds of fish! They provided us with lunch. The staff are all so friendly! From Yulie to Kimberly, to Tim. Making sure everyone had what they needed! Yulie even went to the pharmacy to get some medicine for my boyfriend that was so sweet of her! The rooms were nice and cleaned they cleaned the room everyday! The A/C does get freezing cold but hey you can’t complain you are in the desert you want your room nice and cold! The shower water gets HOT HOT! But then again you can’t complain about a hot shower ;) we had a shuttle take us to and from the airport that was about $235 you can split that with other people who are in the shuttle. all the winnings from the tournament go to the local schools and community which was really sweet! On the last night we took a little hot dog train and went to the local hot dog stands and got to support the community. I can’t wait to come back again and maybe get scuba certified next time yay!
Kayla E — Google review
This review is specifically about the restaurant here. The chef is incredible. The fresh fish dinner (wahoo) we were served was the best fish I ate while in La Ventana, and the fresh vegetables were all cooked perfectly. Go sit on the back deck and enjoy the view. A great value for the price.
Jordan C — Google review
What can I say? Each time I visit this wonderful Resort, I am more and more feeling like family with all the friendliness and care and great service we receive every minute of every day. The Resort is right on the beautiful white sand beach and the restaurant has absolutely the best food around anywhere, and it's not only great Mexican food, but everything else as well. I am not staying anywhere else here at La Ventana...this is my home away from home!!!
Angelina P — Google review
Just returned from my third visit to Palapas Ventana, and loved it! Super friendly staff go out of their way to accommodate your needs and fill your day with fun. Great food from the kitchen, with fresh seafood frequently offered for dinner. Clean, quiet, comfortable rooms at a beautiful location on the bay. I loved my visit!!
Brad F — Google review
Overall, my group had a fantastic trip to Palapas Ventana! The hotel is right on the water, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the pool and hot tub are nice, and the food was fantastic! The rooms are comfortable and have rustic charm, with the A/C and water each working really well. There's also tons to do nearby, and while the beach out front isn't perfect for swimming (seaweed), there are lots of other beaches within a 10 min walk/drive nearby. The hotel was also great in helping us plan group activities like spearfishing, sport fishing, horseback riding, and was tremendously helpful for organizing private events on-site.
Adam J — Google review
We visited in 2017 and had a great time— made great friends and the staff was very friendly. We returned again in December 2018 and were disappointed. The food was wonderful (Thursday pizza night!) and our waitress, Ceci, was very friendly. We were looking forward to the great happy hour that we remembered. When we visited, we ordered mango margaritas but were told that only lime margaritas have happy hour pricing. We returned the following night, ordered lime margaritas and were subsequently told that happy hour is “only in the spring.” The drinks are reasonably priced, but when is the dang margarita happy hour?!

Our group had such a great experience riding today at the Ranch. Went with the advanced/intermediate options and e-bikes. Misa was so patient and amazing. I wouldn’t have survived without her. If you’re a woman and looking for instruction or a guide, Misa is it! Thank you so much.

Amazing bike rentals, tours and gear shop in La Ventana / El Sargento. We highly recommend them as a partner.
TripOutside — Google review
Great shop! Needed a hard to find part for my bike and they ordered it for me. The part required a very small torq screw driver which of course I didn’t have, so I asked them to install for me. They took me in on the spot, installed the part and when I tried to pay they just asked for a tip, lol. Best 100 pesos I’ve spent. Great team at this shop.

Amazing magical experience. Pablo is the most knowledgeable cheerful tour guide I’ve ever had. Started the day with a long 8km hike, learned very much about the local flora and fauna. Afterwards had a snack of home made goat cheese, pickled plums (amazing) and plum compote. Afterwards toured the garden, goats, and cheese making quarters, very clean and well organized. Lunch was fantastic (pictured) ranch to table pre planned all from the farm. The day was 8am-3pm. Bring lots of water for the trail a trail snack and yourself and they will take care of the rest.

Went rented e-bike for a week and did the Granito day-trip ride on the Rancho Cacachilas property. Everything was great! There were a couple minor hiccups in the booking process but the R.C. staff handled it professionally and sorted it out. Diego and Misa were awesome guides! We were a group of 6 and everyone loved it.

We rode with Diego, he was so awesome. I hope to ride with him again someday! I love that Rancho Cacachilas is doing so much conservation work, too.

Great trails - lots of effort put in to make them. Booked a full day tour and got 1:35 of ride time. Very disappointing given the high cost.

Rode MTB Granito Singletrack with Christopher and Diego yesterday. Impressive all around: the trail (climbs & descents but wide singletrack and smooth surface), the guides (bilingual, knowledgeable of the Sierra Cacachilas, and fun) ... and did I mention the food! 5*****

Girl On A Board Kite School is an amazing place if you want to learn to kite surf. Nicole the owner is patient especially for us older clients....there was professional level yoga being taught as well. Very empowering being a middle age woman being taught to kite surf with an all female crew....definitely would highly recommend going to "Girl On A Board Kite School" with a friend or solo....very welcoming....make it #1 on your bucket list and get going....
Lise M — Google review
Fantastic experience! I did several days of kiting lessons, and Nicole and the staff were terrific! They were accommodating of our needs, safety conscious, had all the right gear...they use new Cabrina kites, which are better and more expensive than many other brands, and the best to use. They have Jet ski support, which is one reason I chose them. They also use a less crowded/better-for-learners beach a little North of town for their lessons, and we had better wind there. One day my friend in town got skunked by wind while I was further North having a wonderful experience on the water :) They provided all of the transportation and gear. Alex from OR was my instructor, and he was perfect - patient and informative. Nicole is super easy to work with, and not only made the lessons great, she was also helpful with anything else we wanted to do.
Susan G — Google review
I came to La Ventana with one mission. To learn how to kite! Kayla was my instructor and she did a great job of making me feel comfortable and teaching me how to kite. The three stars are due to the poor organization. The first day we showed up for lessons and no one was there. Turns out when there is no wind, you can not kite. Now having kited I realize this is probably obvious. But it would have been nice to get an email so we didnt waste our morning. On our second lesson day we showed up for lessons and they had forgot to schedule a second instructor, which was figured out, but there was a lot of standing around while trying to figure it out. Disapointingly this was still considered instruction time that we were charged for. Some of the equipment was new and in good condition. Some was really worn out.

Would highly recommend, Nicole and her team are extremely professional and easy to learn from. My time at girl on a board kit school was truly epic!!

La Ventana is a special place. I didn’t know what to expect for my first time in Baja (or kiting), but discovered a community that was warm and inviting. Dramatic landscapes, delicious food, and a laid-back / "joie de vivre" environment. People here are drinking in life, out of time and space. José and the Nomad team are really amazing. The friendly vibe, safety protocols, and instruction are very professional and relaxed. Everything you need is right on the beach and well organized. The warm water and winds are a perfect match. Can't recommend Nomad enough. Great people, great experience. Special shout out to Barcelona Marc for a spectacular week! Thank you all so much ❤️

I don’t know where to start! Nomad school has been a blessing! The owner and the instructors are very friendly, easy going and funny. I went from beginner to being autonomous in few sessions. It was a pleasure to meet you all guys! Thank you for sharing your passion for kitesurfing with all of your students! La Ventana and nomad school are the places to be! And big plus: if you’re traveling with your dog, bring it with you on the beach! I hope to see you again soon! Thank you José and the team.

Our experience with Jose and the team at Nomad was nothing short of incredible—truly exceeding all expectations. We came to La Ventana for four days of kiteboarding lessons, and every instructor we worked with was fantastic. They were professional, knowledgeable, and provided us with high-quality gear to use. Jose went above and beyond to make our time in Lantana unforgettable. Not only did he provide exceptional kiteboarding instruction, but he also made sure we felt at home in the area. He recommended great places to eat, helped us get comfortable around town, and even assisted in setting up a scuba diving excursion down the coast. The combination of expert instruction and thoughtful hospitality made this trip one to remember. We can’t recommend Nomad and Jose enough—five stars all the way!

I was really impressed by Jose's kindness and willingness to help. When his shop was sold out of the Mystic Impact Vest, he lent me one for a week without charging me a thing 🤩His commitment to providing great service is truly exceptional. Thanks, Jose, for going the extra mile 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I did a week rental with some lessons mixed in. The gear was in perfect condition, and I could swap out for the right size as needed, which made my buddies who brought their gear a little jealous since I didn't need to lug anything around. Jose is a master, as we're both of my instructors. It's pretty wild just to watch them make something so complicated look so damn easy, but they are able to break it down and teach it very effectively. By the end of the week I was super comfortable. Jose made the whole thing super easy. The price is well worth it.. Would highly recommend.

Nomad Kitesurfing School is great! My husband came as a beginner and became an independent kiter after a few lessons. He really appreciated having the same instructor throughout his learning. Jose is very helpful and always willing to help with accomodation or advice.

I had an amazing experience at the kite school in La Ventana with José! The service was exceptional, the North kites were top-notch, and the atmosphere was filled with smiles. Highly recommend!!! :)

Look no further! Nomad is the place to take a lesson and learn how to kite. Jose and his staff are super friendly and I was paired up with a great instructor named Paolo. Paolo got me super confident with kite control first then towards the end of my lessons I got up and riding. They also offer jet ski assist so you can make your way downwind and have more learning on the water. Thanks Jose and team! I will be back!

Serpentario de La Paz is an ecological park that serves as a shelter and sanctuary for over 150 species of reptiles, birds, and other rescued animals. It offers a petting zoo for children and provides educational programs about the local wildlife. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, ensuring the well-being of the animals. Visitors can see, touch, and learn about various creatures while supporting their recovery from injuries before being released back into the wild.
This place has been a highlight of our time in La Paz! It’s a small rehabilitation center for injured or abandoned animals. It now costs 200 pesos per adult, which was well worth it! We saw the animals being lovingly, and attentively cared for. There is an area for group education. You can purchase food for some of the animals in the gift shop. We didn’t notice that until we were on our way out, but this did not detract from our experience. The best part is the aviario where guinea pigs and various birds are very social. The birds would land on our arms and nibble at our feet. The guinea pigs also were interested in touching our feet, but not being held. It was magical!
CherylAnn C — Google review
One of the highlights to our La Paz trip. We love animals and it was amazing to see all the work this sanctuary does to help rehabilitate and care for these animals. Saw so many species of snakes and reptiles that we have never seen. The volunteer workers are very passionate and friendly. One told us all about the owls. Recommend wearing long sleeves and pants, in case of mosquitoes.
Angela C — Google review
11 and 9yr old grandsons loved it - want to make it a reoccurring adventure every time they visit. Lots more than just reptiles. Highlights were “feed the birds and Guinea pigs” cage and the pond full of red ear slider turtles. For a few pesos you can purchase food for some of the creatures. It was a fun jaunt. Place was mostly shaded but we brought hats anyway. Cute gift shop and the boys love their T-shirts
Michelle M — Google review
Very impressed. Drove by this place many times without ever seeing it because it's in a residential area. As being someone who helps care for a reptile (see some of my other reviews), we were impressed by the whole experience. The critters seem happy and healthy. The staff seem to really enjoy what they do. I would definitely recommend stopping by for a visit. FYI, They are providing care for more than just reptiles.
KC D — Google review
Wonderful reptile and animal rehab center that's worth a visit to see some endemic species. * Lots of different species of reptiles, birds, and small mammals. The center will try to rehab the endemic animals for release. * Animals are well taken care of and their living spaces are clean. * Animal caretakers walk around frequently and are happy to chat about the rescues. * Plenty of street parking. The serpentarium is located in a suburban neighborhood, nestled between two townhome complexes.
Urian C — Google review
A small zoo, with turtles, reptiles and birds. There is a fee for entry, and you can purchase small amounts of food for the turtles, birds and rabbits. A small information card gives the animals scientific and common name, region and diet, in both Spanish and English. The animals appear to be well cared for. Some are being rehabilitated and some are permanent residents, used for educational programs. (There was a Mexican Grey Fox there when we visited -- so cute!) The turtles, birds and rabbits are habituated to expect food from visitors, so they will swarm you pretty aggressively. The only unfortunate part was the number of biting insects. We all had 20+ bites on our legs and arms before we were done. Wear bug repellent!
Bits — Google review
El Serpentario de La Paz is an excellent animal shelter to bring your family to. Make sure to bring pesos because they don't take credit cards. You can buy animal food in little water bottle lids to feed turtles, guinea pigs and birds.
Josh F — Google review
This is my wife's favorite place to visit in La Paz. We have tried to visit every other week for the last six months. My wife especially loves to feed the birds, hamsters and occasional rabbit in the enclosure they have. It's like a Disney princess moment for her when the birds are covering her and hamsters are underfoot. I highly recommend Serpentario and it's a must see if you're in La Paz. They have many rehabilitation and permanent exhibits and they take great care of all of the animals.

Museums
The Baja California Sur Regional Museum is a captivating destination that delves into the rich anthropology and history of the region. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing ancient wildlife, including woolly mammoths and saber-tooth tigers, alongside artifacts from early human inhabitants. The museum also addresses significant historical events such as the Spanish invasion and revolution. Guests have praised their experiences here, particularly highlighting knowledgeable guides like Levi, who share fascinating stories that enhance understanding of Baja California's cultural heritage.
I love this regional museum. It was small but very informative. Like many museums it started at the bottom floor with an ancient history paleolithic, I think. It explains about the mammoths that live in the area and that this area is close to where the meteor strike at the end of the dinosaur era took place. It showed how the ancient people lived and thrived in the area. The 2nd floor explained more of the exploration done by the Spanish. The third went into the more modern-day Histories of the revolution and the fight for independence in California Baja Sur. It was very easy to find and access. Our cab driver took us right there and it didn't cost very much a few bucks. There was a guide but he was busy with the children's group. And so we explored our own. With our camera, the museum offers English translation through barcodes so you can look it up online as you go through the exhibits. So make sure to have your smart phone. It was very easy to find and access. Our cab driver took us there and it didn't cost very much, a few bucks. They have guides. He was busy with the children's group. And so we explored on our own. It was informative and as archeology often does, reminds of many other museums and relationships that connect us all through this worlds history. I really enjoyed it!

It was a very lovely museum and better than I thought. Friendly employees and good collections as well. We were visiting from Carnival cruise ship from LA
Siqi S — Google review
This week the upper level had an interesting exposition. Free to enter but you can support them at the exit. Is a small museum, you need no more than 1 hour. It’s a good time to refresh your self. They have a souvenir store with local artisans pieces.

I admit that I like museums! This one was pretty interesting and informative about the history of Baja and Mexico. The main level had current art with many of the paintings being for sale at reasonable prices for original art! Going up from there was the story of the Baja region. From early man and cave paintings, to the Spanish and more. The dioramas and recreations of actual cave paintings and life long ago in Baja were very interesting! I learned a lot about Baja history in this visit. If your in La Paz, this is one of the places you should visit!

Learned many new things about both the ancient Americas as well as the more modern BCS structure and path to independence

I was pleasantly surprised by their exhibits, artifacts, and artwork. There are 3 floors, and each floor is a different time period in history. Starting with the natives culture & lifestyles to the Spanish influence / history to the founders of the country. All were very well depicted & made it easy to follow. The staff was very friendly & helpful as well.

Great people and felt very safe for the 7 months we lived there. A little bit rocky rolly when the northern wind kicks up, but withe good chafe guards and snubbers this is not a problem.
David E — Google review
The entire staff is great. They go out if their way to ensure you are taken care of. The only service that could be improved is how far the showers are located from the marina, although a little walk never huts early in the morning. The marina is rolly since there is not a traditional breakwater to stop the currents and wind generated waves.

Away from the downtown hustle and bustle. Public beach with free palapas and various food shops near by that career to the beach customers. You can feel free to go up and get your own or for a few shekels more, you can have them bring it to you on the beach. Nice calm water and beautiful long pier suitable for photo shoots. If you can't get one of the free palapas you can rent an umbrella table and chairs. If you're there to eat and drink the table chairs and umbrella are complimentary with your purchase. The water was calm clean and cool on the day we went with a light breeze in about 80°F. We had beers and fruit while we enjoyed the views and the sand. The people were kind, the service was great, the prices were very reasonable. The beach was very clean with people enjoying music and not a ton of loud obnoxious young adults and smokers.
Xbox U — Google review
It's an excellent choice if you're looking for a convenient, family-friendly beach close to the city. The beach is well-maintained and has all the essentials you need for a comfortable day by the water. One of the biggest perks is its accessibility. It's a quick and easy drive from downtown La Paz, and there's plenty of parking available. You don't have to worry about a long journey to find a great spot. The water is typically calm and shallow, which makes it perfect for kids to swim and play in. There are also palapas and lounge chairs you can rent, so you're not stuck laying a towel directly on the sand. The on-site restaurant and food stalls are a huge plus, offering a decent variety of food and drinks. The bathrooms are also clean and well-kept. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is that it can get pretty crowded, especially on weekends and holidays. The atmosphere is more "busy public beach" than "tranquil escape." If you're looking for a quiet, secluded spot, this might not be it. However, if you're traveling with family or want a beach with amenities and a lively vibe, it's a fantastic option. It's a great place to spend a fun, hassle-free day soaking up the sun and enjoying the Sea of Cortez.
Iliana P — Google review
Solid beach on the edge of town that somehow works for both family vibes and cracking beers with the bros. Plenty of free palapas to claim, or you can spring for an umbrella setup with chairs and a table. Food is available too—take the short walk up to the restaurants or kick back and let table-side service come to you. The only buzzkill? Shards of broken glass in the sand. I didn’t hit anything sharp, but bottles on the beach are a trash move—stick to cans. If people showed this place a little more respect, it’d easily be a 5-star recommendation. As it stands, the vibe is there, the setup is there, but the glass is a safety hazard.
Lucas S — Google review
Nice beach close to town. There’s public restrooms and a small seafood restaurant. There’s a scenic overlook where you can get great ocean views.
Karla S — Google review
Went on a Saturday. It wasn’t terribly busy. You rent tables, chairs, umbrellas. There’s food and drink service. The ceviche was good. There are food stands up top but did not have cold coco. There’s a ramp for individuals not able to do stairs.

Ferry service
Transportation
Ferries
Awesome place the very had few places to plug in your phone but other than that comfortable ride
Man V — Google review
I have travelled about 4 times on the ferry. I then gave it 4 stars. On my last trip I gave it 3. Quality has gone down. My cabin was run down, it even had lice on the bed. Also chaotic getting in and out of the boat. It's not a very well managed operation, in my mind. More industrial focused than hospitality focused.
Jose G — Google review
This is primarily a truck ferry, don’t expect a cruise ship. Get a cabin so you aren’t sleeping the floor with hundreds of others. It is just a few dollars more. Food provided but very Mexican basic. Bar service available. Our trip was smooth and on time
Colin H — Google review
I was passing by and decided to buy my ticket for tomorrow. Aduanas told me I could enter and buy it and then leave. It turned into a 2 hour ordeal having aduanas and the military tearing my bags and motorcycle apart 2 times. I explained both times that I just wanted to purchase tickers, no one explained that I could park outside and walk in. Instead they directed me to drive in. Another example of the Mexican government passing off tourists! No one working here could think rationally or had any common sense. Maybe the government should give them classes in basic critical thinking skills!
Owner V — Google review
Got off our cruise ship and caught a taxi into La Paz. About a 20 to 25 minute ride. We were in a van with 10 people at $5 per person. For a couple of dollars more, you can take cab for four people. I advise you take the cab. There is also a free shuttle but you could end up wasting time waiting for it to arrive. If you are on a tight schedule, take a cab!
Jack L — Google review
The trip is just way too long and very uncomforfotable . From Los Mochis aa the ticket said i began heading to the port around 9:00 pm It is about 30 minutes to get there and there is some walking too , your luggage has to be check before 11:00 pm , the Ferri sails at 12:00 The seat are ok and do recline but the lights remain on for the entire trip , you WON"T be able to sleep . The docking was at 8:00 am but you will begin disembarking at least an hour later , but it is very slow , so i got my bag around 10:00 am . Exhausted , hungry , sleepless , Bathrooms are very small for the amount of passengers , the whole boat smell terrible . Do whatever possible to not have to go this way , if you have to then , look for the cabins , no matter the price it will be worth it :(
Ricardo C — Google review
After reading and hearing so many bad things I was nervous. But it was a great trip and easy experience. No you don't need a title, your current registration will be fine for your vehicle. You do the paperwork at the port
Steven M — Google review
I bought my tickets at the office in La Paz which greatly simplified the port experience. There was a thorough but friendly search of the car before boarding, an unexpected 210 peso fee at the weigh station (it's legit, receipt and all). You can't access your vehicle during the trip so take anything you need with you. There's a cafeteria with surprisingly low rates (unlike onboard a plane), a bar, seating akin to economy flights but with plenty of leg room, and an outside observation area. If you have trouble sleeping on planes I'd recommend trying to get a cabin.

Playa Balandra is a stunning beach with a picturesque, white sandy shoreline and crystal clear waters. The beach is situated amidst low-lying hills which provide a breathtaking backdrop. The beach is well-maintained and easily accessible with ample parking available. Visitors can bring their furry friends along to enjoy the beach as well, although there may be some local dogs that bark incessantly. However, it's easy to avoid them by walking further down the beach.
Beautiful beach. Truly one of the best in the world. It's a shallow beach so you can't really swim. They limit the amount of people that can go in as well as limit on time. Get there before opening for each slot time. One is at 8am and the second is at 1pm so each wave of people are only allowed about 4 hours on the beach and they limit how many can enter. They sell snacks and rental umbrellas and chairs at the entrance before going in by vendors. All legit so it's safe. Bring your own snacks and drinks before going as they don't sell anything inside the beach. Overall it was a great experience, we enjoyed it. There is a simple hike up a small hill to get a nice view of the beaches from the top. Worth doing as well.

Totally worth the drive from Cabo for an excellent day trip to this beautiful beach. Goes knee deep for a long stretch, and although we were warned about stingrays, we didn’t see any. You do have to walk shuffling your feet to avoid stepping on one but its totally worth it. Great view from the top of the hike, definitely check it out

Beautiful beach It's a beautiful place in which you can pass some hours of nice views You can bring your own food/drinks. Avoid glass and please take the garbage with you. We’ve traveled a lot, seen beaches all over the world but Playa Balandra is different. The first thing that hits you is the water impossibly clear, shifting between turquoise, teal, and soft jade as the light moves. It’s shallow for what feels like forever, so you can wade out and still see the ripples dancing around your feet. The whole place feels untouched, almost sacred. The hills cradle the bay in this perfect natural curve, and the calmness is something you feel as much as you see. No crowds, no noise just wind, salt, and that unreal blue stretching out to the horizon. THE PARK IS FREE DONT LET ANY VENDOR TELL YOU OTHERWISE 20 minutes from La Paz. We took a scooter 🛵

One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen. The water is so shallow you can see the bottom. There’s a short hike to the top of the hill where you can take the best photos. Make sure to wear the right footwear since the trail is a bit rocky. There’s lots of marine life I saw plenty of fish and an eel! Get there early to beat the crowds. Parking fills up fast get there before 9 AM.

This place is absolutely beautiful. The water is crystal clear, easy to swim, snorkel, and relax with no waves! Easy walk to mushroom rock for a great photo opportunity! It’s regulated pretty heavily with limitations on how long you can stay, which is the only bummer. Highly recommend!

Beautiful beach to visit near La Paz. We came in the August heat, when the water was very warm. Saw a puffer fish (?) and lots of little fish, but no manta rays. Also many impressive birds flying the thermals above. It’s amazing how many people arrive at the beach without supplies, creating a great business opportunity for the locals. As a protected beach they only allow a limited group in the morning, clear them out at noon, and another limited group in the afternoon, with closure at 5 pm.

There are a few time windows you can be in the beach (8:00-12:00, and 13:00-17:00). Just buy the tickets online on the website and come whenever. Highly recommend to rent sun umbrella. The beach itself is great. Shallow water with many fish.

Scenic, white-sand shoreline with clear, sheltered waters & a backdrop of low-lying hills.

One of my favorite beaches in La Paz !!! The water is crystal clear and you can walk almost a mile and the water never gets deeper then waist deep. They have a morning and afternoon time slot for visiting 3 to 4 hours so make sure yo u plan your trip accordingly bring a cooler and bury inexpensive and don't forget to rent umbrellas and chairs on your way in from the people that were great you there as you're driving into the park !!!

5/5 amazing experience. We secured our tickets by going to the Malecon early in the morning. Got breakfast in the meantime. The trip is so beautiful & peaceful. Some people even do glamping on the island. You get to snorkel in certain areas of the island. I would recommend taking a jacket. Also, get the appropriate sunscreen to not damage the coral.

WOW...this whole area is just awesome..!! We had an opportunity to snorkel in the area, but we were restricted from climbing on the rock formations. There were coral in the area that were restricted and protected from placing a foot on it or near any of it. Even with all of the various restrictions, we still enjoyed as much of the snorkeling and exploring around the rock formations and coral in the area. We saw many varieties of fish and birds and several other unidentified life that was really great to see and explore. Kinda made us feel like we were the first to see it all! LoL Isla Espiritu Santo is a nature preserve area for snorkeling, swimming, and hanging out on the beach. We saw a variety of the local sea life including manta rays, schools of fish jumping out of the water, various kinds of tropical fish, the sea lion pups and adults. The area is best explored with a knowledgeable local or a knowledgeable tour guide who can answer any questions about the area or the licenses needed while in the area visiting. There were a many people in the area visiting with their own boats and docked in the area open water and adjacent to the land to get to the shores to enjoy the beaches or have a nice picnic under the their shade tent under the sun. The area was just awesome.

La Paz is located on the Baja California peninsula on the Bay of La Paz, 210 kilometres (130 mi) south of Ciudad Constitución, municipality of Comondú, and 202 kilometres (126 mi) north of Cabo San Lucas, municipality of Los Cabos. It is located 81 kilometres (50 mi) north of the town of Todos Santos. Its geographical coordinates are 24°08′32″ N and parallel 110°18′39″W, it has an altitude of 0 to 27 meters above the sea level. It is one of the three state capitals of Mexico that are on the coast of the sea.La Paz has a subtropical desert climate (BWh). The climate of La Paz is relatively consistent with generally little rainfall, with a year around average temperature of between 17 and 30 °C (63 and 86 °F). Summer months (July–September) typically see highs between 34 and 36 °C (93 and 97 °F) and dew points of 21–23 °C (70–73 °F). [8] The winter months (December–February) are the coldest with temperatures dropping below 15 °C (59 °F) at night, but cold mostly are from 20 to 25 °C (68 to 77 °F). Breezes from Bahía de La Paz moderate the temperature. The bay also acts as a barrier against seasonal storms in the Gulf of California. Rainfall is minimal at most times of year, although erratic downpours can bring heavy rains. Rain tends to be concentrated in a short, slightly rainier season that peaks in August and September, following the pattern of the North American Monsoon. The driest season, where it is common to have no rain, occurs March through June. La Paz averages over 300 days of sunshine annually and an average of 3148 sunshine hours. During the summer the cooling Coromuel winds, a weather phenomenon unique to the La Paz area, blow during the night from the Pacific over the Peninsula and into the Bay of La Paz. As with most of the Gulf of California, the temperature of the water changes substantially over the course of the year, with temperatures around 68 °F (20 °C) during winter and around 85 °F (29 °C) during summer

Being an explorer in searching for good diving, snorkeling, and natural sceneries, we bit the tourist trap by purchasing the tour. The water is not as clear as Hawaii, or some part of Cancun. Even around the coves where they are sheltered from the coastal winds, when water is as calm as a lake with gentle winds brushing the surface, the water is murky. The visibility is less than 4 meters from the surface. We can barely see corrals beneath the water at 4 meters below, and the bottom estimated to be 10 meters. We have to swim in water depths of 1 meters around coarse sands to see small fishes no larger than three fingers. Any deeper, you can't even see the bottom clearly. Larger fishes the size of your two hands couldn't be seen around August. Make sure to visit during peak periods around December to March. It will be very crowded. Not sure how the turbidity conditions be with that much movements.

Photos can't describe the feeling you get when you arrive. The beauty and the history are unsurpassed. The village is a beautiful, tranquil Oasis. The caretakers are so friendly and willing to share and answer any questions. This is something you don't want to miss if you visit Loreto. Be prepared for an hour long, winding clime with breathtaking views of the Sierra Gigante and the bay, as well as some fairly sketchy road conditions... be sure to pay attention to the road.

Absolutely breath taking it is an epic landmark of the Americas..you can't miss it if you go to Loreto. I conducted an anthropological research trip to San Javier in Baja, California Sur, to examine the Jesuit mission established in 1699. San Javier is a distinctive example of a Jesuit mission in Mexico, and its significance is closely tied to the historical context of the Jesuits' expulsion from New Spain. Following their expulsion due to support for Native Americans, the Jesuits left a lasting impact on San Javier. Situated in the mountainous region near Loreto, the town provides a unique snapshot of early American colonization. Notably, the landscape includes a 332-year-old olive tree, one of the oldest in the Americas, date palms from North Africa, and orange trees from the Jesuits' plantings. San Javier offers valuable insights into Jesuit missions' architectural and cultural aspects in North Mexico and the USA. The mission's unique ties with Japan and its historical connections add another layer of importance. My exploration of San Javier focused on unraveling its historical layers as a unique example of a Jesuit mission. Examining the architecture, flora, and cultural influences helped provide a clear understanding of its development, especially considering the Jesuits' later expulsion from New Spain.

A lovely little village. Beautiful old church and grounds. The streets of the town are lined with orange and lime trees. The olive trees in town were a nice treat. The drive up the mountain was relatively smooth with only a few areas where the road had collapsed down the mountainside. Very scenic.

Not worth the drive. Not much to see and they fleece you for donation. They don't keep up on any restoration or cleaning. Not an unpleasant experience, but you'd be better off going fishing, snorkeling or to some other excursion. The place is a little depressing too!

Pretty easy denture and tour the mission. Cost of 70 pesos per person masks are required in February 2023. If you're there on the hour the clock strikes his bells and at noon it plays a recorded but very convincing longer rendition. The plaza around are beautiful and well kept. Lots of places to have lunch.

Very nice museum right next to the mission. It includes maps, artifacts, paintings, etc. and the signs are in English and Spanish. It is not huge so one can see everything in as little as 20 minutes. In February 2023, the entry cost is 70 pesos ($3.86 US dollars). The museum is closed on Mondays and they close mid-day for siesta but reopen in the afternoon.

Lovely place to walk. Don't take your car. Gets busy at parking area. Walk the harbor and enjoy the birds. Lots of pangas tours. Restaurant. Ecological preserve passes.

I enjoyed a leisurely bike ride along the Loreto Malecón in mid-March 2025. It's a great place to watch seabirds and enjoy sunrise and sunset. Silhouettes of the islands of Loreto Bay National Park (Parque Nacional Bahía de Loreto) can be seen from the boardwalk. It's a short walk or bike ride from the main plaza. Very nice area!

Beautiful but busy little port, great restaurants and hotels. It’s busy! But wonderful

So beautiful to walk this easy to walk, or push a stroller or walker malecon. The bird watching was amazing, and everyone walking had a smile and pleasant greetings.

I recently returned from a week-long trip to Loreto, BCS, Mexico, and one of the highlights of my stay was undoubtedly the Malecón de Loreto. I found myself drawn to this beautiful waterfront promenade at least twice a day, and it quickly became a cherished part of my routine. Waking up early to watch the sunrise over the water was a fantastic treat. The picturesque scenery, with its stunning views of the Sea of Cortez, was nothing short of breathtaking. Whether bathed in the soft morning light or the golden hues of sunset, the Malecón offered a serene and captivating experience. One of the most remarkable aspects of the Malecón de Loreto is its tranquility. Unlike more bustling tourist destinations, Loreto remains relatively low on the tourist radar, which means the Malecón is generally peaceful and quiet. This made my morning and evening walks particularly enjoyable, providing the perfect setting for relaxation and reflection. The busiest day I experienced was Sunday evening, which brought a delightful buzz of local families and visitors enjoying the waterfront. Even then, the atmosphere was vibrant yet still maintained an air of calm. Throughout the rest of the week, the Malecón was a haven of peace, allowing me to fully appreciate its natural beauty and charm. Overall, the Malecón de Loreto is a must-visit spot for anyone traveling to this hidden gem of a town. Whether you're looking to start your day with a serene sunrise or unwind with a tranquil evening stroll, the Malecón provides a perfect backdrop for creating lasting memories. I can't wait to return and relive those peaceful moments.

Worth visiting. Very clean, modern and safe. With amazing views. At the north side there are palapas for free use, where you can swim. There are restaurants in the area. Some more hidden in the adjacent roads. The bird life is amazing. Actually if Mars had water, this is what it would look like. There is also de Marina to visit.
