This site saves and rehabs turtles and also has a fabulous boat tour of the adjacent, protected and breathtaking lovely wetland lagoon. No dogs allowed because of the abundance of wildlife. This sanctuary is a must see. 60 pesos per person for the turtles plus 60 pesos for the boat tour of the lagoon.
Loretta P — Google review
As close as you can come to beautiful sea turtles. Amazing sanctuary, clean and orderly. Definitely worth the visit
Andres — Google review
I do hold a love hate for this place as I don't like the animals in captivity, however the education opportunities and efforts are undeniable. On national holidays you can see talks to hundreds of keen children and adults all learning about turtles. Also don't miss the boat ride in the lagoon. Lots of birds, crocs and other wildlife and well worth the visit.
Daniel P — Google review
The mangrove tour was amazing! The large variety of wildlife we saw was so impressive! They are doing such important work with the sea turtles! This visit was the highlight of my Mexico trip!
Siobhan M — Google review
This place was amazing. I got to hold a 1 hour old turtle. The tour guide was great and we all had a wonderful time.

Place is great, great views with boat ride, nice friendly staff.
Judge — Google review
It's way out of the way, bit our friends wanted to see turtles, so we went. Entrance fee is reasonable and they have loads of turtles, crocodiles and reptiles....I am no zoologist, but found it a bit sad to see the turtles swimming in dilapidated pools without areas to climb out of the water... It was stunning to see them though and some were very large...
Nicolas C — Google review
Very clean place for the turtles and iguanas. Tha boat ride was amazing. We saw lots of birds, some alligators, some boa constrictors in the trees. The guide tried very hard to let us get close to take some good pictures.

We are residentes ofJalisco and this was our first tour in Cómala. The Volcano and Coffee Eco tour was well planned, interesting, beautiful scenery and our guide and owner, Jupiter was great. He speaks excellent english and was very informative. The van was very nice, clean and air conditioned. We all enjoyed the tour and time with Jupiter. Recommend!

What an amazing experience and fantastic guide. We messaged relatively last minute and they accommodated my partner and I got an evening bird tour and it was amazing! Not only did I get to see the bird I set out to find, but I was asked if there was other birds I was looking to find and given directions for places easy to find on my own that I could find them! 10/10 would recommended and I would/will do more tours with them in the future if I’m in the area.
Bethany-Lynn W — Google review
The volcano tour was great! Jupiter is very knowledgeable and brings you to small local spots you’d never see as a lone traveler. Also knows a lot about birds!!

I was there on June 2022, is a beautiful hike, be prepare for the lack of oxygen, even if you have trained the shortness of breath will get you. The day we went up it was very foggy and windy, very cold as well and this was during Summer I can imagine how cold is during Winter. I recommend 100 percent, use caution as you drive up, the road is very narrow, and most of all respect the flora and fauna for future generations.

Isla Ixtapa

Island
Nature & Parks
Isla Ixtapa is a popular island known for its variety of water sports such as scuba diving, snorkeling, and swimming. Playa Cuachalalate is the most frequented spot on the island due to its proximity to the boat dock and excellent swimming conditions. Visitors can also enjoy snorkeling at playa Varadero, where calm waters and coral formations await just in front of Restaurante Paraiso Escondido.
Fun little island. Great food. Great water rides. Great views. Great snorkeling on the backside of the island. Good day-trip destination.
Tim H — Google review
Nice island for a day trip from the mainland. The water taxi takes a couple of minutes to get you to Playa Veradero so that you can walk through to Playa Coral to snorkel. There are many restaurants but they aren't cheap.
Nadine C — Google review
Fast and easy boat ride to the island. There are plenty of places to sit on the beach that have umbrellas and lunch. Not so rough water, good swimming, snorkeling, and sea shell hunting.
Brandi H — Google review
Had a great time out at the island! Wish we have done this a couple of times while we visited. There's two sides, a beach that is rocky that has snorkeling and then a swimming beach. We had fun on both sides. There's plenty of shade, chairs, loungers, cold drinks, and food. We took a water taxi out to the island for $100 pesos per person. Some of the menus weren't in English so I recommend downloading Google translate offline before going. 10/10 OH! And we saw whales!
Courtney K — Google review
Love to go there every time we visit Ixtapa, beautiful place and great food. The snorkelling is also great, the only thing I can complain about is that the boats delivering food to the restaurants are in front of each one of them, making the swimming a bit dangerous and it also smells a lot like fuel. Maybe this could be improved arranging the deliveries at an earlier time of the day before the guests arrive. Other than that, it is a great day to spend the day.
G. H — Google review
Swimming here was wonderful because the water was nice and calm. Service was very friendly and the island atmosphere is relaxed.
Sheila F — Google review
An amazing day trip! Only 80 pesos to get on the island from Playa Linda and we had a blast. Go snorkeling on Playa Coral and eat some charcoal grilled fish for a great day.
Jonah L — Google review
We had a wonderful day snorkeling at playa Varadero in Isla Ixtapa. On February 13, 2023, the weather was good and sunny. The ocean was calm. The snorkeling place where there are some corals is only 30 feet(10 meters) in front of Restaurante Paraiso Escondido. We parked ourselves at the restaurant based on the good Google reviews. We didn’t have to pay to rent the umbrella and chairs as in some restaurants in Playa Las Gatas. We only need to pay for the food and drinks. Their prices are competitive and reasonable. We ordered a grilled (pan fried in Mexico) fish filet and Corona beer. The total price was 245 pesos. We paid 200 pesos for a complete set of snorkeling equipment. When we were ready to pay the bill, I ran into the owner John. He was very personable and friendly. He even offered me a free drink! We snorkeled both at Playa Las Gatas and Playa Varadero. We saw about 15 different types of fishes in Playa Varadero versus several in Playa Las Gatas and the bottom was sand versus stones. There is a coral beach for snorkeling in Isla Ixtapa but there are many sharp corals and the incoming waves pushing my wife against the corals. One can easily cut by the corals. So, we gave up snorkeling at the coral beach. On a separate note, we took the collectivo to Playa Linda from Zihuatanejo center (near the Mercado Municipal) for 20 pesos and took the boat to Isla Ixtapa for 80 pesos round trip.

Delfiniti of Mexico, located in the coastal town of Ixtapa, is a vibrant family waterpark where visitors can enjoy swimming with dolphins. Situated by the Pacific Ocean, this interactive marine park offers an unforgettable experience for all ages. Visitors traveling with their families will find Delfiniti to be a must-visit destination in Ixtapa. The facility provides opportunities for people to interact with dolphins and create lasting memories.
One of the best experiences of organized travel that my wife and I had. Totally 5 star. Mauricio a senior trainer engaged us in the most amazing encounters with dolphins I could ever imagine. Totally a first class place and venue. And like all the people from this region, nice, friendly and accommodating. Thank you Mauricio and all the staff of Definiti.
Stanley A — Google review
Xavier was a fantastic guide. My kids had a blast swimming with the dolphins.
Chris B — Google review
While I am aware that the issue of cetaceans in captivity is an important and contentious one, it is not one that I have given sufficient attention to offer much insight on. The dolphins my eight-year-old son and I interacted with certainly seemed healthy and happy enough, and the aquarium seemed more than large enough for the number of dolphins living in it (but I am not a marine biologist, and so have little more than my impressions to base this on). Moreover, everyone I observed (including my fellow visitors) treated the dolphins with kindness and respect. My son and I signed up for the full interaction, which I recommend if you can afford it. We made our reservations the day before with Jesús Rodríguez, who kindly obtained us a substantial discount. The experience itself is largely indescribable. Luz, the dolphin we interacted with, not only seemed healthy and happy as I mentioned, but also friendly and patient with her visitors. The interaction was informative as well as exciting, and so my son and I also learned a bit about dolphin behavior and physiology. As some other visitors have mentioned, photographs are strictly prohibited within the facilities. Notably, this restriction is not limited to interactions with the dolphins. While profitability may indeed be a factor here, I also suspect it reduces the likelihood of a visitor doing something stupid in an unsupervised interaction with one of the animals. The photographs provided by the professional photographers are indeed expensive--in our case, they cost almost as much as the visit itself. That said, the people responsible for the pictures are clearly professional photographers, such that the photographs are of much higher quality than anything I would have snapped with the camera on phone, or even with one of their cameras.
Brian N — Google review
Terrible experience. The dolphins are under terrible conditions, you can see that they are hurt. If you care about an animals, please DONT GO. Don’t be part of this business 😔
M. D — Google review
Very nice experience if you bring your family! My child was quite happy. Some comments below talk about cleanliness of water, but that's quite untrue. Water is fine. Price to swim with dolphins is $800 MXN (25 min), but that's fine if you think of money is being used to feed them 👌🏼 Negative point is that prices are not posted, so you must be up to negotiate with local people. You can get pro pictures starting from $150 MXN each
Leonardo G — Google review
Absolutely disgusting that there are still places that allow this. Poor dolphins are stuck in a tiny pool and showing signs of depression. So sad.
Andrea S — Google review
Very very heartbreaking. Dolphins belong in the wild, not a tank or other enclosure. These mammals have perfectly evolved to thrive in the ocean, where they deserve to live freely. Captivity simply cannot provide an adequate environment for these wild species. Do not support places like this.
Claire B — Google review
Was a wonderful time worth every dollar spent. I know I see people post about how much it is to do this but you dont get to do this every day. The staff are wonderful and the water is nice as well.

Bahia de Zihuatanejo is a marvelous destination where boats depart to reach Playa Los Gatos and Playa La Ropa. This little town/city is literally my favorite spot in all of Mexico! It’s got this “sleepy fishing town” vibe with quaint flea markets scattered around near the docks and beaches. People are very friendly and the Ixtapa beaches are just a 20-30 min cab ride away.

The Zona Arqueológica Soledad de Maciel-Xihuacan houses ancient settlements dating back thousands of years, featuring an adobe pyramid base and a ball court. Alongside these historic structures, there is an archaeological museum where visitors can immerse themselves in the fascinating history of the Mesoamerican era. The site offers breathtaking scenery and is currently undergoing excavation, making it an awe-inspiring destination that should not be missed.
Lots of potential, I do believe that there are many hidden treasures around the site waiting to be discover . I really hope the government steps in and make this small project into something big!! I encourage people to go and see this place !

Not much to see. Unless you are visiting some villages around. Only small peace of pyramids are out the rest is hidden.

Very short drive from Zihuatanejo. As we drove past the site, we were approached by a man on a motorcycle, dressed as a tour guide. He spoke great English and showed us the site. He asked 200 pesos per person for a 1 1/2 hour tour. Very interesting historical site. The are is easy to walk...keep in mind, there is some climbing up stairs. He moved fast, but always took time to answer questions. Irving is his name. Also watched a traditional dance with fire. Ate at the restaurant across the street....excellent food and very clean. Thursday is pizoli soup...mui bien!

The only reason this doesn't get five stars is that it takes something absolutely unbelievable to me to give anything five stars and I have never given them out yet. I would happily give this 4 and 1/2 Stars if I could it's fabulous. It's beautiful wonderful story and you know what they have to wear guys yes it's a little bit hokey but spend the two or three hundred pesos for a tour guide and you will learn a great deal. That's for the museum the basketball court and the pyramid. Just terrific
Jeff M — Google review
Seeing and being among such anchient places I find very enriching. The museum was nice and the guides were local people with a passion for the place and took time explaining things.

Seems like a hidden site, very cool and interesting... only about 1/3 of the ruins are unburied...some of the land is private is why...hope in the future they can dig up and display the whole city..had a guide explain what everything was because it's all in spanish..

La Quebrada, which means "ravine" in Spanish, is a famous spot in Acapulco where professional divers have been performing breathtaking cliff-diving shows since 1934. The divers leap from ledges at heights of 12 and 24 meters into the narrow inlet walled by vertiginous cliffs. They perform daily shows at specific times, showcasing their acrobatic skills to crowds of tourists and locals.
Our tour from the cruise ship brought us to several stops, among them an opportunity to see the world famous cliff divers. I am given to understand it is almost a family business. When I was there, the 13 year old daughter was preparing for her first year as part of the diving team. What I didn't expect was that the divers jump in the water across from the diving point and first scale the cliff to the jump off point. They judge their timings based on the nearby wind flag, and the waves hitting the rocks a short way off shore so as to have the water at its peak when they hit the water, some 130 feet below. Before jumping, each has an opportunity to visit a shrine near the jumping point.

Over a month stay in Acapulco, enjoyed watching the show from multiple vantage points and different times during the day... you can have a nice drink and superb view from the Hotel Mirador but it is also fun to go in the evenings down on the platforms and enjoy the energy of the crowds that form. The rock formations are stunningly beautiful and it is amazing to learn the history and tradition of the divers. I found a really great somewhat hidden little restaurant nearby that served the best tacos and micheladas -- especially after I kept returning. I tell everyone going to Acapulco that you haven't really been unless you've seen the Clavadistas.

This is a work out to get to. Take a hat, umbrella, a back pack for your "ice" cold water!!!! They sell drinks, but i recommend you take your own. Bc you will be desperate for water!!! It's a nice experience & my respects 🙏 🫡 to the divers.

Nestled in the heart of Acapulco, the Acapulco Historical Museum of Fort San Diego is a remarkable 17th-century pentagonal fortress that stands as a testament to the city's rich history. Originally constructed in 1616 to defend against pirate invasions targeting valuable trade ships returning from Asia, this impressive structure was remodeled in 1776 and now houses 13 exhibition halls dedicated to military history.
This historic fort, now a museum, is right next to the cruise ship terminal so its easy to visit this star shaped fort (with a moat and portcullis). It is full of cannon, excavations showing original foundations, and cultural exhibits representing both Spanish and Japanese early travelers and influences on the Mexican culture. You can also see Mayan artefacts, armor for horses, and knights, ancient sea chests, and of course you can wander the battlements and sight along the cannon barrels out into the city or bay.

The exhibits are excellently presented and informative. Google Translate helped immensely as my Spanish is limited. Great history here.

Located atop a historic fortress overlooking Acapulco Bay, the San Diego Fort Museum offers a fascinating experience. It’s spacious, well-maintained, and features impressively realistic models that vividly illustrate important episodes from the port’s history. The museum’s galleries are neat and thoughtfully arranged, making the visit comfortable and enjoyable for all audiences. From the halls and terraces, you can admire breathtaking views of the sea—perfect for photos or simply soaking in the scenery. Free parking makes it easy to access, without any hassle. Whether you're looking to dive into local history or enjoy a culturally rich and scenic experience in Acapulco, this museum is a top choice.
Efrain C — Google review
I read a review that said the museum was in awful condition. The review failed to mention that it was a few months after the massive storm that destroyed Acapulco. Please ignore this review, your museum is up and running. We went today, museum is an excellent condition with interesting artefacts from Asia and Mexico. The models of the galleons that did the Manila Acapulco run are fascinating. I would recommend an hour or two for this museum.
Sheridan G — Google review
Recently remodelled, it shows the history and culture of the bay. It has a collection of maritime images and artifacts. Acapulco is not only a party and beach destination, it has a rich heritage and history.

A great place in Acapulco! Few people know it’s the most historical place in this area. This historic museum has a beautiful art collection and expositions. We hope they reopen again soon. The architectural particular style makes it unique also. It is like a star structure. And also from here you have a lovely view of the bay. ☺️☺️☺️☺️

Isla de La Roqueta

Mentioned on

Island
Nature & Parks
Isla de La Roqueta is a hidden gem just off the coast of Las Playas, nestled at the western entrance of Acapulco's bay. This lush, hilly island is perfect for families and nature lovers alike, offering scenic hiking trails and tranquil waters ideal for kayaking or snorkeling. The journey to this enchanting spot begins at Playa Caleta, where you can hop on a ferry or tourist boat while soaking in stunning coastal views.
(Translated by Google) I loved this place, not only me, but my entire family. The entire journey from the moment you get on the boat is surprising, the fish at the bottom of the sea are beautiful. The diving service and the banana, quite accessible. Arriving at La Roqueta, the view of the lighthouse is great, although the bad thing is that you cannot enter the lighthouse, but the view is worth the trip. The lovers' beach is beautiful, very private and quiet. On one side of the pier the sea is shallow and quite calm. I was able to swim to the buoys without problems and my children loved swimming on said beach without waves. The ideal is to bring your own food and drink, if you don't have much of a budget or if you want to save unnecessary expenses. I recommend arriving early, so you can explore everything without problems. It is also cheaper to buy tickets in Caleta, the boats have a round-trip service. The last one leaves approximately 5 pm. I will definitely return to this place! (Original) Este lugar me encantó, no sólo a mi, sino a toda mi familia.

(Translated by Google) It is a good place but the arrival seems quite annoying, up to an hour and a half to get there for a kilometer of travel. The virgin is fine, but being stopped halfway by another boat to sell you what you can buy on the island seems like a joke to me. The way there is very long and it turns out that on the way back you are there in less than 2 minutes. The place when you arrive is good but you have to arrive early because there are a lot of people. Bring your food and drinks because the place is more expensive than the beaches of Acapulco. (Original) Es un buen lugar pero la llegada me parece bastante molesta, hasta hora y media para llegar para un Km de recorrido. To get there you have to take a boat or boat that is taken in a cove, or you can opt for some with a route such as Dinka or Coral that are taken before. If you are going to take the tour, keep in mind that they will ask you for a tip for everything, because it turns out that no one on the boat gets paid. Sights & Landmarks
Capilla de la Paz, also known as the Chapel of Peace, is a striking modern structure with pyramid-style architecture and a massive stone cross standing over 131 feet tall. This clifftop chapel offers breathtaking panoramic views of Acapulco Bay and serves as an open-air sanctuary. Visitors can admire the iconic forty-meter-high Cross and the Hands of the Brotherhood sculpture by Claudio Favier.
What a cool, peaceful place in the mountain. The view of the sea and the bay are wonderful. Free to enter, but you can leave a donation. Note, this is in a secure, private neighborhood; so you need to go through security. Only open until 6pm. The parking area is on the street. You will need to walk up a steep hill about 80 meters in length to get to the chapel grounds.

La Capilla de la Paz is truly one of Acapulco’s hidden gems. Perched high on the hilltop of Las Brisas, the chapel offers an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the bay and surrounding mountains. The moment you arrive, there’s a profound sense of calm. The architecture is striking — modern yet spiritual — with a massive white cross that stands over 40 meters tall, visible from much of the city. The bronze sculpture of praying hands near the entrance is powerful and symbolic. Inside, the open-air chapel is simple but deeply moving, filled with natural light and surrounded by beautiful landscaping. We were greeted by the serene sound of birds and the rustling of palm trees, and even though it was a warm afternoon, the cool mountain breeze made it perfect. It’s not just a religious site — it’s a peaceful place to reflect, take in the view, and feel connected to something bigger. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Acapulco, whether you’re spiritual or simply looking for tranquility and beauty.
Marc P — Google review
Very high on a mountain, we passed several of what can only be termed mansions or luxury homes on our long coach ride up. Our guide suggested several Hollywood stars owned some of the houses, all of them with infinity pools hanging off the cliffside. At the top stands a quite modern chapel (possibly ultramodern in design) and several monuments, one for the Las Manos de la Hermandad (Builders). Tombs are present for prominent / wealthy families. Views from all sides are spectacular. In more rural areas, there is more honor to a family to be buried higher on a hill, and there is no higher hill than this in Acapulco. One one side I could see down along the entire bay of Acapulco and its waterfront.
Graham T — Google review

We stayed for a month at the diamond Beach club, every evening we would come to swim and see sunset, absolutely beautiful. The problem being 2 of my sons and my wife refused to go into the water because there would be brown like rust covering the water at times. My other son and me, didn't care we jumped in the waves had fun all the time. However the contractors rebuilding the hotels told us there are many boats that sank in the sea from the hurricane, and there giving off a lot of bad substances from degrading. When we arrive back to the states my son who was in the sea was sick they tested his blood and he had huge levels of lead in his system, guess what so did I. My wife and The other 2 boys didn't have any at all, their levels normal. So my advice enjoy the pools, enjoy the sunset at the beach but don't go in the water at the moment, it's to risky, they need to do something about the boats that are sank and leaking battery acid and metal.

Down the road You will get into the lagoon and there will be different Lancheros that will offer You their service to take You to the nacional park. The amount berries between 1500 to 2000 MX pesos. It is worth going to chacagua. An amazing place to stay or go for One day.

The cellular and internet connections and wifi are not always working properly but you can make connection with the sea, the lagunes, the excellent waves to surf and the cheaper prices...In chacahua, the people are nice , the nature wonderful.

Transportation from Puerto Escondido: any Collectivo Shared Van service direction Rio Grande- tell the driver you are going to Chacahua National Park and need to exit at El Zapotalito. The stop or "parada" is on the main highway at a dirt road intersection. Cross the highway and wait at the small wooden Collectivo stand. A Collectivo Taxi will cost $25 Mxn for 10 min drive to the lancha /boat docks. Here is the tricky part! Make sure you use the far LEFT docks for the "local" lanchas. Google Maps "Lancha Collectivo" in El Zapotalito. This is where the lanchas are reasonable in price. The local captains are kind and fair. Direct non stop from El Zapotalito to Chacahua $200mxn per person. Or in Collective lancha to the Collective Camionetta to Chacahua is $50Mxn per person. Find Felipe he owns his own small lancha and is very kind for a Direct ride without Camionetta. WhatsApp +529541479971. **CAUTION: DO NOT use the Lanchas at the far right side from where the Collectivo Taxi stops- they have a large colour sign with prices showing ..Tour of Mangroves $3,500 total trip and $2,500 direct nonstop to Chacahua total trip. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND A COMPLETE SCAM!! Walk to the far left and use the "local" lancha Captains. We had no idea and were 3 people to share the cost..$830 per person from these "sharks"! The beach and cabanas: Beautiful- Spectacular!! Stay on the Ocean side as the Lagoon side is less expensive but is run down and swimming is among the lancha boats going back and forth. The Centre square has tiendas and restaurants- Chacahua Wings is very good, the Guacamole served at the place to the right of Wings is amazing, the Barbacoa Burritos are so good across the square from Wings! The centre square is where the Collectivo Camionetta drops off and picks up passengers for El Zapotalito. Go visit Miguel at the restaurant beside Cabanas El Paraiso fir amazing, delicious Enchiladas Verde! We loved our private room with toilet and shower and mosquito nets at Cabanas El Paraiso...right on the ocean beach..with hammocks and bar.

We visited at night for the bioluminescence lagoon, and oh my gosh. It was pure magic. The ride to the lagoon itself was so much fun, zipping around the mangrove canals in the dark, avoiding fishing nets with all kinds of birds and bats flapping over head. And the bioluminescence? Bright, magical, and a one of a kind experience. Definitely a must see and well worth the hour drive from Puerto Escondido.

It's a bit if an adventure getting here but well worth it. To get here from Huatulco you need to take at least 2 buses, a taxi, boat and then a truck it's a fun trip but you're looking at about 5-6 hours of travel (at least). Once you are there you have a boatload of restaurants to choose from, plenty of cabanas to rent and access to beach camp grounds. The natives are incredibly sweet and welcoming. The views are breathtaking and the waves are a surfers delight.

The nature and the birds are beautiful. Go there if that's what you want to experience. There is one very cool bar run by Pedro who's happy to talk to you and serve you his specialty, frozen mescal recipe with milk. I haven't really liked that there seems to be 2 restaurant per outsider/tourists (beginning of March). It gave the place an empty feel.

Very beautiful place, worth the visit. It's quiet and peaceful. If you want a break from the city this place is perfect. No internet or service. So if you can adapt to this life it's amazing. The locals are one of friendliest people I met in Oaxaca!

Playa Bacocho

Playa Bacocho is a hidden gem in Puerto Escondido, known for its long stretch of golden sand and as an important turtle-nesting site. Unlike the more popular Instagrammable bays, this beach offers a quiet and uncrowded atmosphere, making it perfect for those seeking relaxation and romance. With only a turtle sanctuary and two exclusive beach clubs, Playa Bacocho is ideal for a day trip.
Releasing the turtles was so fun! We went the day after Christmas so the lines were really longs we waited around 45 mins in lines. The staff were great and gave us a ton of information about the turtles and their organization. The price is now 200 MXN instead of the 100, which is still pretty fair.
Jacob D — Google review
Really beautiful beach, such a great scenery. Gets busy by sunset time, almost empty during midday. No shadow so bring umbrella. Difficult to enter the sea if you are not experienced because of big waves. At 5pm there is the turtle release by the organisation (didn't participate, felt really touristic and not that environmental friendly). Beautiful sunset.
Arriana M — Google review
Amazing place for a day at the beach, a beach run, or just a stroll. A lot of bodysurfers in the afternoon. It has a very long strip of sand. Parking is super easy, there are free areas and a lot that charges $50 pesos. There are two lifeguard towers there too, one sound of the turtle release place and another one further south. This time we were there, there was an area on the sand full of water that made it easy for non experienced swimmers to also enjoy the water while we had high surf conditions (mar de fondo). The beach was very clean and it also had public restrooms by the parking lot. It wasn’t super crowded, but towards the afternoon more people did show up. There is also a turtle release location there. There are other beach clubs and restaurants in the area, so that’s also an option. I highly recommend this beach. If you’re trying to release the turtles, make sure to call them before. They have daily releases during the vacation periods but after it varies, so call them first.

Nice beach. The waves are quite tall. Not that suitable for swimming. On the plus side there's almost no one. It's a bit further out though.

Playa Bacocho is a beautiful beach located in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. Visitors can enjoy the soft sand, clear waters, and breathtaking sunsets. Additionally, the experience of releasing baby turtles into the sea is emotional and unforgettable, making it a must-do activity for anyone visiting the area.
Sebastian F — Google review
Wow, is all I can say. Such a nice beach. Release the baby turtles, then stay for the sunset! Only downside is that there are no food vendors there and the waves are a bit rough. Must do for all Puerto visitors imo. Bring umbrella as there is no shade. Price for turtle release has increased to 150mx
Errol L — Google review
Great beach to see the baby turtle release, if you want to release them you need to pay 150 pesos. The sun down on this beach has the best views!!!! You need to be very careful to swim. Go at 18:00 +- to enjoy the above.
Jose P — Google review
The beach itself is lovely and sandy but the highlight by far and away is going at 5pm and releasing baby turtles into the sea. You pay 100 pesos per turtle but this goes toward the conservation and is incredibly worth it. Once you release the turtles be on the look out for crabs and gulls as there is nothing more upsetting than seeing your turtle getting pulled into a crab hole or whisked away by a hungry gull!

Mangrove-lined coastal lagoon, home to ibises, ospreys & herons, plus luminescent plankton.
Chill place to paddle in boat 🚣‍♀️ around. We came here part of a tour package. After sunset, the mosquitoes 🦟 are brutal out here... it’s happy hour and our block is the mosquitos favorite cocktail.

Very easy walk in this park. You will be pressured to get guild, not necessary. buy Tickets ONLINE. If monkeys or sloth spotted there will enough looking up to know where they are. The guides will have telescope for you to see animals better and find the snakes and small creatures so not a bad idea to hire. They have closed restaurant in park so white faced monkeys not hanging out there. You can bring sandwich and water but NO plastic water bottles.

Amazing experience swimming in the Bioluminescence, one of a kind.
Bobby N — Google review
It’s cool for a few minutes but gets old pretty quick. The light is dimmer than anything you see in pictures - looks like a faint white. Still a cool experience.
Cat C — Google review
Beautiful location. We rented a kayak and paddled around the area for 2 hours. We could have easily spent longer. This is definitely a place for bird watchers to visit. We went early (8am) and by 10am it was getting pretty hot. There was not much wildlife to be seen other than birds, but the trees were gorgeous.
Karaline — Google review
Very impressive almost unreal what goes on the water at night. This time around seen the bioluminescence white 🤍 and was able to swim in the water for about 30 minutes under a floating 🎪 tent... Once in a lifetime experience....
Jose R — Google review
The birdwatching tour in the lagoon was a highlight of our trip to Puerto Escondido. We used Manglar Tours. This is a special place
Patricia S — Google review
Fake listing. Don’t pay these inflated prices. The laguna/lake is found 20 minutes west of Puerto Escondido, you can see it on the map. Just drive there between sunset and 9:30pm and you’ll only pay 150 pesos to have a tour.
Bingsu — Google review
MAGICAL!!! Tips that I think would be helpful to know: We booked a lagoon tour via WhatsApp with Restaurant La Rosa de Monterrubia, a lovely chap named Antonio. We spent a little extra on a private tour so we could go later when it was fully dark (very important - light and full moons are no bueno). Antonio gave us a price much lower than the larger group tours we were trying to book from the bigger places. We got a taxi from PE which took about 20 min each way. Arrived 8:15pm, well after sunset. It was a little spooky pulling up to the restaurant when it was dark, after all the other tourists have left. But Antonio greeted us straight away and walked us down a wooden walkway to the dock. A 20 min boat ride along the lagoon takes you to the swimming area where the luminescence is indescribable. That would’ve been more than enough value for our money. But we then cruised another 15 min or so to where the river meets the lagoon, and that is where I won’t spoil the magical display that awaits you. You CANNOT swim in this area, which has crocodiles, but if you’re lucky you’ll see their red eyes in the light and get a thrill. The stars were incredible to gaze during the serene drive back on the calmest waters you’ve ever seen (sit up front). Highly recommend!

Playa Carrizalillo in Puerto Escondido is a top choice for travelers seeking sun, surf, and sandy beaches. This beautiful bay is surrounded by palm trees and boasts stunning turquoise waters. It's conveniently located near the town center with its restaurants and shops, making it an ideal base for exploring nearby spots like Playa Angelito and Playa Manzanillo. While it may require a steep trek down steps to reach the beach, the effort is well worth it for this secluded paradise.
The most beautiful beach in all of Puerto Escondido. We enjoyed relaxed swimming in the water and surfing the turquoise waves. This is the perfect spot for beginner surfers. Also a great location for snorkeling— we saw lots of fish and turtles in the water. Highly recommend for any visitors!
Isabelle P — Google review
You have to walk down around 100 stairs and then back up. Best beach to swim in Puerto Escondido. Food and drinks. You can rent a lounge chair for about $15 US.
Julie V — Google review
Good place to chill, strong waves, but heard that other places you can't even get in the water. Be ready to spend some money for everything, even to throw your trash away. Overall, great place to visit for sure, even getting surf lessons.
Edgar C — Google review
Beautiful place to relax. Good wave action but tame enough for a lot of people to swim in. I think I counted about 160 steps or so from the parking area above, so it's a workout. A little pricey to sit under a palapa. A lot of surfers come here.
Duncan M — Google review
Spending the entire day here felt like a dream. The water was warm, the waves were gentle, and everyone around the beach was respectful. There were plenty of beach chairs to rent and open spots to lay out your blanket. Plus, lots of spots to grab food and drinks if you didn’t bring any. This place is an absolute must-visit in Puerto Escondido. Just watch out for the stairs — going down is “fine”, but the climb back up is definitely a workout!
ORIKHURE — Google review
Great local beach… be careful of the strong waves and be prepared for some steps.. otherwise great place to spend the day.. rent a chair and relax
Akash S — Google review
Great beach with a giant staircase access , the waves here are strong so don’t go in if you can’t swim. It is also slightly difficult to get out because of the steep climb on the shore
Iguana — Google review
It’s super crowded and some of the restaurants are a rip off and/or terrible. But, it’s a lovely little beach with calm waves. If you are trying to avoid crowds, there are other options in the area that will be better for you.

Puerto Angelito is a small, sheltered beach with calm waters that make it perfect for activities like snorkeling and paddle boarding. It is located in a crescent-shaped bay near the town center and offers a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. The beach, along with its neighboring Playa Manzanillo, stretches for about 120 meters and features beautiful white sand, clear aquamarine waters, and rocks at either end.
Good for swimming and super chill. Busier on the weekends but great atmosphere

Excellent beach for affordable food and relaxed swimming. The water was clean and fresh. We loved how this beach was not too busy and had lots of happy families.
Isabelle P — Google review
Small pretty bay, but over crowded and with loads of boats mooring. The water wasn't clean because of the boats. No shade unless you want to pay for the sunbeds
Elena * — Google review
Beautiful local beach. Not much room on the sand, due to boats. Crystal clear water and many vendors. Can get busy, but worth checking out. Can book boat tours here very easily.
Errol L — Google review
Spent a few hours here. Although it is a small beach the water is beautiful! I can see how it can get crowded fast since it’s a hot spot for the locals. There’s not much room for sun bathing but if you dine at the restaurant you’re able to leave your stuff there to swim about in the water.
Carol-Marie — Google review
It’s a lovely bay but very very busy at the weekends. At one point there was 5 rows of people in the shallows making almost impossible to enter the water. You can see some fish in the rocks if you are early in the morning and there are many many bars and restaurants to grab food or drink, most are more expensive than the other local beaches. It is nice but go early and on a weekday.
Henry H — Google review
Great for snorkeling, I have only been snorkeling twice before and I didn't need a life vest because the water is very buoyant there. There were a lot of locals there but everyone was friendly. No one minded that I put up my beach tent and flew my drone.
IBFLYN2 — Google review
Puerto Angelito is an excellent beach for families with kids and older adults. No big waves, lots of floaties for rent and boat rides. Occasionally you will come across ice cream sellers. 20 pesos is what I paid for and it was well worth it. Very good!! Make sure you throw out your garbage. Puerto Manzanillo is connected to Puerto Angelito via walkway in between and is less crowded. Waves are a little bigger here. Crystal blue waters. There are rocks separating both beaches if you want to explore and collect rocks and shells.

Playa Zicatela is a legendary 3km-long beach in Mexico, renowned for its tempestuous surfing waves at the Mexican Pipeline. It's a popular destination for surfers from around the world due to its strong waves, making it not safe for swimming or beginner surfers. The beach is wide, golden, and perfect for walking with stunning sunset views.
Beautiful, long, uninterrupted beach. Perfect for walking and the best for sunset. If you want to swim more then head slightly north to the corner of the beach (past the rocks) where it meets Playa Principal. Here you can swim with the smaller waves

Up and coming best beach in Mexico!! Very geared towards the stereotypical "hippy" person. 420 friendly, vegan and vegetarian options everywhere, gluten-free options available. Able to walk to everything that is necessary. Beach is huge, lots of sand spaceto spread yourself out. Easy to travel by yourself and meet new friends.

It’s satisfying walking on a long sandy beach with the surf crashing next to you as you carefully place each foot step on the sand. Occasionally feeling the last remnants of a wave cool off your feet. Great beach.

Our guide was Sergio. I couldn't have asked for a better guide for a tour like this. His guidance, knowledge and professionalism set a new standard for guidance. Sergio was the difference between an average trip and an unforgettable one. The vivid landscapes, the way the people live, amazing!! An experience I will never forget, powerful and professional!

Excellent tour with Sergio! The lagoon was beautiful and tranquil with many crocs and other animals around. Sergio was very passionate and explained everything clearly and in English and Spanish. Top tip, rent an sun umbrella from the stall opposite their office 👍

We had a fantastic experience at La Ventanilla Ecotourism near Mazunte. Our guide, Sergio, was excellent—he spoke perfect English (having lived in New Zealand) and shared lots of insight about the local ecosystem. What really stood out was the group’s genuine commitment to conservation. They avoid using engines to minimize disturbance to wildlife, which makes for a peaceful and respectful encounter with nature. We saw several huge crocodiles up close, along with a variety of birds and iguanas. It was both educational and beautiful. Highly recommend this tour!
Diane H — Google review
A highly recommended place to experience nature; you will get to see various bird species, turtles, crocodiles and other animals. When you go, make sure to get the tour from the “White Shirts” group; they are the first group you will encounter.
Gustavo C — Google review
We had a wonderful experience, and immensely loved our evening helping those little babies get to the ocean. It was a great time! Our guide only spoke Spanish, so if you didn't know you had to rely on those around you. We will absolutely be back!
Mandy R — Google review
We did the crocodile viewing via a boat ride on the lagoon. It was wonderful. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and provided us with some rather close encounters with the animals.
Aaron G — Google review
Probably my favourite experience in Mexico so far. The guides are very knowledgeable, the animals are wild and clearly not being exploited. None of the boats have motors on them and are hand paddled so as to protect the area. You get really close to some beautiful crocodiles. Would recommend to any and all nature lovers.
