This site saves and rehabs turtles and also has a fabulous boat tour of the adjacent, protected and breathtaking lovely wetland lagoon. No dogs allowed because of the abundance of wildlife. This sanctuary is a must see. 60 pesos per person for the turtles plus 60 pesos for the boat tour of the lagoon.
Loretta P — Google review
As close as you can come to beautiful sea turtles. Amazing sanctuary, clean and orderly. Definitely worth the visit
Andres — Google review
I do hold a love hate for this place as I don't like the animals in captivity, however the education opportunities and efforts are undeniable. On national holidays you can see talks to hundreds of keen children and adults all learning about turtles. Also don't miss the boat ride in the lagoon. Lots of birds, crocs and other wildlife and well worth the visit.
Daniel P — Google review
The mangrove tour was amazing! The large variety of wildlife we saw was so impressive! They are doing such important work with the sea turtles! This visit was the highlight of my Mexico trip!
Siobhan M — Google review
This place was amazing. I got to hold a 1 hour old turtle. The tour guide was great and we all had a wonderful time.
Joshua D — Google review
Place is great, great views with boat ride, nice friendly staff.
Judge — Google review
It's way out of the way, bit our friends wanted to see turtles, so we went. Entrance fee is reasonable and they have loads of turtles, crocodiles and reptiles....I am no zoologist, but found it a bit sad to see the turtles swimming in dilapidated pools without areas to climb out of the water... It was stunning to see them though and some were very large...
Nicolas C — Google review
Very clean place for the turtles and iguanas. Tha boat ride was amazing. We saw lots of birds, some alligators, some boa constrictors in the trees. The guide tried very hard to let us get close to take some good pictures.

We are residentes ofJalisco and this was our first tour in Cómala. The Volcano and Coffee Eco tour was well planned, interesting, beautiful scenery and our guide and owner, Jupiter was great. He speaks excellent english and was very informative. The van was very nice, clean and air conditioned. We all enjoyed the tour and time with Jupiter. Recommend!
Rail1riders — Google review
What an amazing experience and fantastic guide. We messaged relatively last minute and they accommodated my partner and I got an evening bird tour and it was amazing! Not only did I get to see the bird I set out to find, but I was asked if there was other birds I was looking to find and given directions for places easy to find on my own that I could find them! 10/10 would recommended and I would/will do more tours with them in the future if I’m in the area.
Bethany-Lynn W — Google review
The volcano tour was great! Jupiter is very knowledgeable and brings you to small local spots you’d never see as a lone traveler. Also knows a lot about birds!!

We had a volcano and coffee tour this morning. It was awesome! We learned so much about coffee making and had some delicious breakfast at a local coffee grower/roaster's with a great view of the volcano.

Dormant volcano with a forested base & a steep, rocky summit, often covered in snow in winter.
One of the best hiking areas in Mexico, not technical, 900m climb (from la joya Basecamp), beautiful!

An amazing trekking experience with a great view at the peak. Suitable for beginners.
Son N — Google review
I was there on June 2022, is a beautiful hike, be prepare for the lack of oxygen, even if you have trained the shortness of breath will get you. The day we went up it was very foggy and windy, very cold as well and this was during Summer I can imagine how cold is during Winter. I recommend 100 percent, use caution as you drive up, the road is very narrow, and most of all respect the flora and fauna for future generations.
Victor J — Google review

Great hiking trail to the waterfall. However, this is a challenging trail, be prepared for a steep hike down to the fall. Make sure to have good hiking shoes and walking poles.
Kambiz M — Google review
The road to the trailhead was a little rough, but if you go slow, you will be fine. I did it in a regular 4-door sedan without any problems. The hike down took about 30 minutes. The hike back up took about an hour. Tapalpa is at 6,400 ft (1,950 m), so the altitude might affect you. Reportedly, it is 750 ft (229 m) down to the falls. It's worth the effort. If you are in Tapalpa, you should do it.
Toby T — Google review
I would rate this hike as an intermediate hike. Meaning going down is fairly simple, going back up is a slight challenge. There were people on the trail in various age groups and physical shape. Bring water a hat and good comfortable hiking or tennis shoes.
Gloria S — Google review
A beautiful place. If you get an opportunity to go, I warmly recommend. I went twice. First time I swam. Keep away from the waterfall. People have drowned, probably getting too close or under the waterfall. I kept as far as possible from the cascades where it was plenty deep. I paddled back and forth for about 5 minutes: it was most refreshing, I assure you, with lush green trees, a roaring fall, and a bright sun lighting up the trees and rocks on the other side. Always be cautious clambering over boulders in rivers. I went alone the first time, and no one was there, I was at the falls about 9am. Don't swim, don't chamber over boulders, keep safe!
Sebastian P — Google review
Amazing and beautiful place. Magic in the air.

(Translated by Google) Incredible!! Use sunscreen, a hat and water to stay hydrated along the way. At a good pace they go down in approximately 1 hour. They charge $50 for parking and at the top they sell snacks, it is advisable to go down with the best possible weight, just water and that's it. (Original) Increíble!! Always consistency delish. My nephew order 100 of the small cajeta ( sample size they give to every costumer that walks in the door) for a birthday party treat.
Sammy G — Google review
Delicious Cajeta. Prices quite high, but it’s worth it. Service ok.
Angel M — Google review
My mom told me a story of when i was very little. We used to be neighbors with the cajeta company in the 80s. When the wood boxes for cajeta were put to dry on the roof they would sometimes blow over into our yard I would collect them and take them over for a sweet reward. It is still my favorite to this day. Every time my mom visits family in Mexico she brings me a jar. This is the best in the world.
Johnny D — Google review
Delicious cajeta great customer service. The only bummer is you must make a appointment to see the factory.
Susy M — Google review
I love hoy they have decorated the place and the design. All the staff is really nice. They offer you a free "Cajeta" as soon as you step in the door. Try their products you will love them
Miguel M — Google review
This is an excellent place for buying the traditional "cajeta" milk candy, in fact I would say that this is the best cajeta in all of Mexico. A 100% recommended.

Spectacular waterfall!!! WARNING ⚠️ The truck ride back is crazy! We waited over an hour for the driver to take us back to the top of the hike. Expect a crazy long wait. Even so, it is very worth it!
Jitendradas L — Google review
Beautiful area, worth the hike. The guy at the gate up top was a total jerk, he made the whole experience stressful. Didn't explain anything, just told us we couldn't enter. It's like the community forces people to go on a horseback tour if you want to enter.
Owner V — Google review
Nice hike down a stone road lined with cabins. Downhill to get to the waterfall then back up to return. Your experience at the falls would likely depend on the amount of people that are also there. It is possible to climb behind the water.
Billy M — Google review
Nice hike and falls, I do recommend visiting this part of Mexico in the rainy season because everything is green. Note they do charge an entrance fee (40 pesos per person) and if you want a ride (on their trucks) or horses that is separate. For the horses it was 125 pesos per hour. For the truck it was 40 pesos to go down and another 40 pesos to come back up
Chessel O — Google review
The walk is long with lots of up and down. The entry fee is 30 pesos, but consider paying an extra 20 per person for the ride down to the cascada - fountain. You will still have to earn quite a bit and down the side of a mountain to the actual falls. Same thing with horses, except that the horse ride is 250 pesos pet person. There are washrooms at the bottom before you go down to the falls but no water; so carry yours with you.
Jagdeep R — Google review
Walking instructions from Mazamitla: I'm writing this because if you're only looking on Google maps, it's legit confusing as to how you even get to the waterfall. You have to walk to where it shows Los Cazos on Google. There's a gate there into Los Cazos, as it's private residences/cabanas. On the lefthand side of the gate, there's a foot path and you walk along that, there's a small window to pay 30 pesos for entry. After that, the signs within Los Cazos are easy to follow to reach the waterfall. Note: pay close attention to the route. There are quite a few streets in the subdivision, and a lot of turns are kind of similar looking. So it's easy enough to find your way in, but on the way out I took a wrong turn. The hike is great from town. It wasn't what I expected, as the majority is walking along cobblestone streets vs. a forest path. However the cabanas in Los Cazos are great! All of them. They're pretty much full blown houses vs. cabanas, but each one is unique and is in a lovely setting. I went on a Wed morning in mid-February. I sat at the waterfall by myself for an hour. Secret: want an actual hike through the forest? At the bottom of the stairs of the waterfall, to the left, there's a path that goes along the river. You have to hop the fence. It's well worth it. It goes along the river for a little ways, then it climbs. And climbs. And climbs. But where it takes you is outstanding. You end up on a road, and at the top there are a bunch of other roads (that look like they haven't been used in years) and trails and a sign that said Bison Eco Park. I had no idea where to go from there, so I laid on a bed of pine needles in the forest for a bit and snacked and chilled, then went back to the bottom of the waterfall again. Was worth it. I have zero doubt that if I had followed the proper trail/road at the top that I would have popped out at a main road. But, I was fine with what I did and the route I took. When people say it's uphill on the way back... it's uphill on the way back. From the base of the waterfall to Centro Mazamitla, it's steadily uphill besides one small downhill part. Not difficult, but I was pooped by the end and chilled in the main square for a bit.

Beautiful well maintained place to walk, shop, and eat. The only down side is the amount of loud motos and four wheelers zooming by as it breaks up the serenity...But that is everywhere in the city.

Beautiful place to spend the weekend with your friends or family. There are plenty of local shops and restaurants nearby. The prices are good and the prices people are so lovely and friendly. Mexico is really a great country to visit only one thing that need to take care of is the environment. Come on many churches to worship God and when you are out you make a mess by leaving your bin on the ground.

Upstairs are the food "restaurants", downstairs are a few vendors of fruits and knick-knack, all overpriced. Tasteless food (quesadillas con pollo had no chicken, and no flavor) is what I got here, although I could see a lot of happy customers. I guess our palates are very different.

Abba Park

Water & Amusement Parks
Ecotourism training center for families, schools & corporate groups teaching about nature & food.
I came here to volunteer on the farm. I had a truly transformative experience. For one it was really special to live on a farm, far away from the city. It allowed me to be more grounded and really connect with the people and nature around me. Instead of using a phone for entertainment we played board games, made campfires, sang karaoke and went on field trip. The kitchen was full of delights. The work was new for me but a lot of fun. Rob, Brandy and all the amazing volunteers made me feel welcome right from the start. I live in the Netherlands but I know I will always have a second home in Abbá park❤️

This place is marvelous. It's a very nice retreat, no electricity, no phone signal (actually you can get some at the bar), beautiful cabanas with fireplaces for the night. It makes it magical. When it's dark it gets a little scary, specially if you're outside. But that only adds to the whole experience. It's wonderful.

(Translated by Google) It is a wonderful experience to go to Abba Park. To begin with, the people who serve you are very friendly. There is plenty of room to walk, explore, play. There are multi-purpose courts as well as zip lines, horseback riding, climbing wall, avalanches for children, 1 suspension bridge, play area with trampoline for children. The cabins are like new, clean and the beds are super comfortable, it doesn't get very cold at night at all. They have their terrace area with a grill and sink, which makes grilling meats much easier. The best thing is all the stars you can see at night and there is no hustle and bustle at all. There is a restaurant where they serve you very delicious homemade food. The cost is not high for everything you get and how much fun you have. The road to get there after the town is a bit hilly, so I would recommend taking a high vehicle to pass without a slope. We will definitely return.

(Translated by Google) The service was wonderful. Despite being marketed as Catholic, the camp never became religious. The access is very bumpy. It was very difficult to get a car through; a low vehicle couldn't fit, no joke. A zip line wasn't working; I would have liked to have ridden it. Some things in the cabins need maintenance. Overall, everything was nice except for the access. The adjacent grove has been utilized as a playground and picnic area, complete with bbq pits and picnic tables, while boat rides are available at the pier. Ample parking is also available. If you're going to spend an afternoon by the lake, this is the place to do it.
Sasch M — Google review
It is well-planned, and well-designed. It was lovely to find so much parking. If you need to use the bathroom, it costs 5 pesos. Very clean bathrooms. There is a lot of Flora and fauna. Beautiful scenery and lots of little places to have snacks and drinks. Must see! One more thing there is a small, handmade sign that says "malecon". Don't miss the sign.

Isla de los Alacranes

Island
Nature & Parks
This small, scenic island in Lake Chapala features several outdoor eateries with their own docks.
Love the experience, definitely I am coming back with more time to spend on it. I recommend it, it is a relaxing place and you have a beautiful view anywhere you turn.
Claudia C — Google review
La isla es muy pequeña. La recorres fácilmente en 10 minutos, si venden comida pero llevas el tiempo contado porque la lancha solamente te espera como 30 minutos. Very small but a nice island you can easily walk all around within 10 minutes, there is food to buy there but not enough time because they only give you like 30 minutes before charging more money to wait for you to take you back to town.
Valerio T — Google review
It is fun to explore with someone you can have fun with. I got to see and hold a baby monkey, and that just absolutely made my life!! Only iffy thing was a guy with a parrot asking if he could hold my purse so I could take a picture with his parrot. The Ceviche de pescado at the 1st restaurant when you get off the boat, was amazing! And the view was incredible

A fun out of the way place to visit. Avoid the help from kids getting out of the boat. They will be aggressive for tips.

Just go! Grab a boat and for an hour support the locals. It's a lovely get away and the view and history is wonderful

Great place for family fun Chapala 15 min boat ride I would recommend staying on the island for an hour. half hour is not long enough

Small little island in the middle of Lago de Chapala. There are little boats that can ferry you out. Not too much to see or do on the island, but you can get some food and drinks.

Very beautiful atmosphere. It's very clean to walk around and a lot of pop up shops to buy cute little trinkets. There are also several food options wether it's to rat or buy some delicious snacks. The water of course is a little mirky, like pond water since it is a lagoon. Overall great place to sight see and enjoy a couple of hours.

Beautiful malecon but there was graffiti on the light house. Such a shame. The street market and beautiful statues and architecture were lovely. We had a nice couple of hours here.

Amusement park
Water park with huge slides & 2 wave pools, plus a splash pool for infants & river kayaking.
One of the best water parks to go to!!! Very fun and so much to do! Aside from water attractions there is zip lining, obstacle courses, airsoft, go carts. So much to do in one park!

Open from 8am to 5pm 7 days a week. It's ok, the place is really pretty. They take credit cards, serve omellets for breakfast at a very good price. The restaurant doesn't open until 10am, it takes 20 minutes to get your food. You can bring your own food or order food and get it delivered. Beware, though, you will be charged $90 pesos as a re- entrance fee to go outside and get the food at the entrance. They have no ice, no fountain drinks, and no cold drinks. They sell an 11 lb bag of ice. The bathrooms are clean, but there are no paper towels to dry your hands with. They were doing maintenance during the whole time we were there, which was 8am to 5pm. They were using a chainsaw to take down a bunch of trees ning so it was noisy.

Awesome park with family/or amigos. Pretty big spacious park with themes, pretty awesome water slides and low pool with waves. Across are some picnic tables under shade, so if you go bring food, even meat to grill. Just take into account these are natural warm springs areas so the water is slightly warm, not so refreshing but still feels good to cool off a bit. The water slides bit rough but that’s common water slides. Various sizes, and steepness. There’s a store for basic food items and dressing rooms in case you didn’t wear bathing suit upon arrival with showers for afterwards. Just make sure you don’t wait till last minute cause of the long lines!! Overall, satisfied with my experience since there’s ramps and pretty easy to move around with my minor mobility issues. I think most expensive out of water parks here, but with most diverse attractions and space. They close at 6 and turn off water almost immediately. It was nice to return after my childhood memories

Zona Arqueológica Teuchitlán o Guachimontones

Archaeological museum
Sights & Landmarks
Ancient Ruins
Zona Arqueológica Teuchitlán, also known as Guachimontones, is a captivating archaeological site located just an hour's drive from Guadalajara. Dating back to 300 BCE, this pre-Columbian gem features remarkable circular pyramids that set it apart from other historical sites. As part of a UNESCO World Heritage site that includes the famous Tequila region, it's an ideal destination for a day trip.
Beautiful site, well maintained. Be aware it is a long steep walk up the hill to the site. Worth it, but bring a water bottle. Hand Craft vendor offerings were a disappointment, but the ancient site was beautiful and the museum was great.

Just visited the incredible Guachimontones archaeological site near Teuchitlán, Jalisco! These circular pyramids are unlike anything else in Mexico and a truly amazing sight to behold, sitting at the base of the majestic Tequila volcano. It's wild to think that the people who built this place lived here long before the lifetime of Jesus Christ. Highly recommend this for any history or architecture lover! #Guachimontones #Jalisco #Archaeology #Mexico #TequilaVolcano #AncientHistory

This site was amazing. Get a guide who knows the area to take you on a tour. You have to arrange this ahead of time but if you ask enough people you'll be able to find someone. Our guide worked in excavation at the site for 20+ years so he knew what made it special and he shared culturally significant information. The museum was good but we definitely got to see the inside works by having a guide. Tip: if you're not in decent shape, or if you're traveling with young children or older adults, ask at the museum about getting a ride to the site. It's not a long walk but it's very steep, there's no shade, and nowhere to sit down.
S B — Google review
Very Interesting, our tour person Chava was awesome, very knowledgeable. The video presentation and the museum explanation was very well explained a great place to visit
Martha V — Google review
Arrived Saturday at 4pm and it was plenty of time to explore. $30MX per adult. There are very clean bathroom facilities by the parking and an air conditioned museum that presents a 15 minute documentary. Highly recommend to go in the museum before walking to the pyramids. There is a 15 minute incline walk up to the pyramids, be warned. Wear comfortable shoes and depending on the time of day it can get really hot. It was very interesting and it deserves a visit.

The Templo Expiatorio del Santísimo Sacramento is a remarkable neo-Gothic church in Mexico, known for its Italian mosaics, stained glass windows, and a clock tower. Designed by Adamo Boari, the construction of this historic church took 75 years to complete due to disruptions caused by the Mexican Revolution. Despite being a popular tourist spot, it offers visitors quiet corners for reflection and tranquility within its large premises.
Free to enter. A very beautiful gothic style church. It feels like you are entering a majestic and divine forest. Wonderful place to pray and connect with God for believers. It wasn’t very busy when we went as well so it was incredibly serene.

Beautiful church, open and quite. I always think.church should be open to every one, and this is. Offer great arts and historical construction as well. Many Mexicanas are getting married every weekends as well, and local markets are being held at night. Valuable place for Guadalajara. I personally liked it better than the one in Firenze in terms of the functionality as.a church.

Such a beautiful church. Do yourself a favor and assure you come here. If you can talk your way into the catacombs downstairs too, it will make an experience you won't soon forget. If you can't, I've added lots of photos. There is a small show outside when the hours turn. Make time to peruse the surrounding areas. It is good manners to assure you leave a donation before you depart.

Guadalajara's Cathedral

Sights & Landmarks
Guadalajara Cathedral, a grand 16th and 17th-century structure, houses the relics of St. Innocent. The cathedral is located in a neighborhood dominated by historical landmarks such as the Governor's Palace and the Hospicio Cabanas. The latter was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its original chapel adorned with striking apocalyptic murals by artist Jose Clemente Orozco.
Beautiful breathtaking church! I visit often and every time I am always in awe of its beauty. The mass is beautiful and the acoustics of the church make the mass service more amazing.
Evelin G — Google review
An amalgamation of architectural styles with much history relative to most buildings in the Americas. The icons in the cathedral are sometimes more bloody in depiction than other churches I have visited. Greater emphasis on Mary in churches and cathedrals here, congruent with the attempt to overlay pagan deities with saints and Holy Mothers. There is another separate church attached. This part of the city is very walkable and Guadalajara’s devotion to the arts is admirable
Laura C — Google review
Catedral Basílica de la Asunción de María Santísima remains central to Guadalajara where it has stood since the 17th century. Still architecturally stunning despite fires, age and earthquakes the capitol's center of worship is a must-see from the detailed pulpit to crypts below. Home to the relics of St. Innocent, expect large crowds during times of worship.
Michael U — Google review
It's a large and imposing building that I wouldn't exactly call beautiful. The architecture seems eclectic, and the towers seem out of place withe rest of the building there are quite a few beggars and questionable characters hanging out in front of the church. Other than that, a nice edifice, just not the nicest.

Teatro Degollado stands as a stunning example of neoclassical architecture in Guadalajara, Mexico, and is a true cultural gem in the heart of Jalisco. This magnificent theater not only showcases exquisite design but also serves as the home for the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra. It plays host to an array of significant cultural events, including the National Traditional Mariachi Encounter and the Cultural Festival of May.
Very beautiful, amazing theatre. Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco had a wonderful concert. Really unforgettable experience for us.
Ari L — Google review
The teatro Degollado is a mid-19 century jewel built in 1856-1866. It has gone through many renovation throughout the century. It was originally called teatro Alarcón, in honor of the classical playwright Juan Ruiz de Alarcón. After the Reform wars(1857-1861) the governor Pedro Ogazon changed the name to Santos Degollado, former governor and general who died in battle in 1861. Most of the renovations of the theater were done to improve the interior design and reinforce the roof of the building. Between 1953-1959 artist Roberto Montenegro designed and crafted the mosaic of Apollo and the Nine Muses on the theaters pediment. 16 Corinthian columns support the pediment. The theater is now home of the Jalisco Philharmonic and the place of high artistic performances. Book your private tours of Guadalajara with me! And let’s explore Guadalajara together! Hospicio Cabañas, located in Guadalajara's historic center, is a renowned 18th-century complex that has transitioned from a facility for the needy to a hub of art and culture. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it now houses the Instituto Cultural Cabañas, showcasing an extensive collection of contemporary Mexican artworks, including pieces by Jose Clemente Orozco and French artist Daniel Buren.
I highly recommend anyone coming to Guadalajara to make a visit to this museum. Tuesdays are free. The murals in the chapel are breathtaking and should not be missed. As well, there are several exhibition rooms that showcase a variety of art and genres.

A mixed bag. Tickets are affordable and available, there is hardly a line to enter the place. The interior houses a few photo galleries, with rotating expositions, and not much else. The central building with it's high vaulted ceilings and frescoes is the main attraction. It is peaceful though and at times you will find yourself alone in this huge complex.

Return visit a decade plus later and the Orozco murals still impress. Beautiful location and peaceful hideaway from the bustling crowds. Bonus: Tuesday entry was free so you can donate more to charity

Really dont like rating so low but besides the history of the building there are few unimpressive exhibits. Orozco murals are good, if cost was lower perhaps 2 stars. Didn't understand massive historical building, nice courtyards, yet so little to see for 110 pesos. Was a large group of important people back of building closed off didnt help the experience.

Bosque Los Colomos is a popular destination in Guadalajara, offering a wide range of activities for visitors. This urban forest and natural park boasts walking paths, picnic areas, and striking landscaping. One of its main attractions is the well-maintained Japanese Garden, providing an authentic experience for those interested in the city's history. The park also features romantic bridges, a small dam, and various trails that are perfect for leisurely strolls or bike rides.

And the entrance is free :)

Free to enter - pay a fee if you park your vehicle here. The park is so lovely and peaceful. We got there early on a Sunday morning and the vibes were great. Everyone seems to be in a relaxed and kind mood. The animals here are accustomed to people, the squirrels are used to being fed because they run right up to people. It is a nice break from the noisy and chaotic city. I would recommend checking this park out.

Great zoo! So much to see. Great for families!!! Best zoo ever! It has a safari experience, a lifting chair and train ride that takes you around the zoo. I loved that it's very clean and has beautiful scenery everywhere you look. If you miss the hours to feed the bigger animals, you can go to the deers section and feed those instead. They are not encaptured and roaming wildly free. This zoo also has a farm area, where you can see, feed, brush, and pet horses and goats. It is a very big zoo, so plan on spending the whole day there, especially if you are walking through it all. I enjoyed that we went on a weekday avoiding the busy crowds. I was very impressed and my child loved it too! We can't wait to go back!
